• A capital and largest city of Sweden.
• The city is built upon numerous islands which are
located at the junction of Lake Malar (Mälaren) and Salt
Bay (Saltsjön), an arm of the Baltic Sea, opposite the
Gulf of Finland.
• Stockholm is regarded as one of the most beautiful
capital cities in the world with the area of 188 sq km
and around 15 lakh population.

and development which aims to achieve sustainable
development by ‘Building city inwards.’
• An overall green structure is defined in the plan along
the guidelines of green qualities.
• The green map and city plan are the parallel projects.

THE GREEN MAP
OBJECTIVES:
• To create a green structure that serves all its
purposes i.e. social, culture, ecological and
technical functions that work well as a whole.
• To give the green structure the same standing as
the building and traffic structure, together they
form a good urban environment.
• To give an overall and simple picture of
ecological, cultural and social qualities in the city
where these qualities are lacking.

• From toilets to tank: Since 1996, Stockholm uses biogas from sewage for transport. In 2005, the second plant
opened which feeds a bus depot and a commercial fueling station with biogas through the pipeline. Further,
study focuses on how to collect restaurant and household waste and thus increasing the amount of biogas.
