Analysis Of The Pardoner
My initial reaction to the work was one on astonishment. Everything that the Pardoner was saying and
describing reminded me of the Evangelists of today of who travel from town to town and setup great
big tents just to steal the money from good hard working people from the way the Pardoner has the
same sermon practiced and rehearsed. Upon first reading, I have read this poem more than a few
times, I jotted down some words that I had never heard of before, those being; Cuckold, Avarice, and
Jakes.
Geoffrey Chaucer lived between 1340 and 1400 in London England. The son of a Sommelier of sorts,
his family made their money from the selling and buying of wine. In his teens Chaucer went to fight in
the hundred years war during he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In every small village that he visits his sermon topic is always the same: greed is the root of evil. The
Pardoner always preaches about greed, the same sin that he admits to possessing. Although the
Pardoner himself is guilty of Greed, he warns people about the dangers of covetousness through
examples from history and the Bible. However, the Pardoner himself states For I ll have money, wool,
and cheese, and wheat, though given by the poorest serving lad, or by the poorest widow in the place
meaning that he would rather take from the starving and destitute than give up his creature comforts.
In Flanders, there were three young hooligans who loved to amuse themselves by gambling, being
rambunctious and drinking. The Pardoner goes into a speech of criticism about their sinful lives.
Finally, after his long speech, the Pardoner reflects back onto the three young hooligans, who are
drinking at the tavern when they hear the church bell signaling the sound of a passing coffin. A servant
tells the group of travelers that the dead man was a friend of the three who had been stabbed in the
night by a thief called Death . The young hooligans declare that they will find and kill the thief Death.
They pledge to each other as brothers in their endeavor.
The young hooligans meet an old man in rags who

industrialization dbq
Industrialization DBQ Q: Identify the issues raised by the growth of Manchester and analyze the
various reactions to those issues over the course of the nineteenth century.
__________________________________________________ The spread of industrialization rapidly
altered and changed the city of Manchester during the nineteenth century. Of course there were
positive effects that stemmed from this, but negative effects due to the growth of industrialization
outnumbered the positive outcomes and are often overshadowed. The environmental hazards and the
working conditions of the factory were enough to harm laborers and the gentry (documents 1, 2, 6, 7,

Wages thanks mainly to accelerated machinery and improved working conditions have largely
increased. The lavish provision of public parks, baths, and free libraries promotes the health,
happiness and culture of the industrial orders. Far seldomer than before do we hear the murmur of
popular discontent. Sickness and mortality have been reduced to an extent that is almost incredible
(doc 10 Abram s, a journalist and historian, published journal account of the improvements to
industrial Manchester.) Public health was an extremely important issue that sparked reactions to the
polluted water and air, the Corn Laws and the well being of laborers in filthy conditions. Diseases
caused or aggravated by atmospheric impurities produced by decomposing animal and vegetable
substances, by damp and filth, and close and overcrowded dwellings, prevail among the laboring
classes. The annual loss of life from filth and bad ventilation is greater than the loss from death or
wounds in modern wars (doc 6), Most workers lack clothing, bed, furniture, fuel wholesome food,
even potatoes! They spend from twelve to fourteen hours each day shut up in low ceilinged rooms
where with every breath of foul air they absorb fibers of cotton, wool, or particles of copper, lead or
iron. They live suspended between an insufficiency of food and an excess of strong drink; they are all
wizened, sickly and emaciated, their bodies thin and frail, their limbs

Did Elizabeth felt jealous of Dido since she got engage before her?
Why do you think John Davinier is the right man for Dido?
Why Dido s family never led her have dinner with them when they have visit? Are they ashamed of

Comment on the significance of the paintings in the film.
I believed that the significance of the paintings in the movie is to show African Americans as inferior
than white people since in the majority of the paintings white people were at the top and it show
African American below them. In a scene in the movie Dido doesn t want to be painted in the same
painting with her cousin because she does not want to be shown as inferior, but at the end when she

Explain the emotions behind the hair brushing sequence.
I think the emotional behind the scene where Dido was brushing her hair and her maid offer to help. It
shows the struggles Dido experienced from being from a different race than her family because

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Acetaminophene
Acetaminophen (APAP) is one of the most commonly used analgesic and antipyretic drugs worldwide
and easily available for use without a prescription. In 2014, over 67,000 people receive an overdose of
APAP in the US, among which around 1,200 cases ended with severe liver failure or death [1].
Over the past two decades, considerable effort has been made to understand the mechanisms of APAP
hepatotoxicity. Although the complex molecular mechanisms remain speculative, several theories
have been proposed to explain APAP induced hepatotoxicity. During metabolism, around 5 10% APAP
is biotransformed into a highly reactive metabolite, N acetyl p benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), by
several cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) [2]. Normally, hepatic glutathione ... Show more content

Among these cell lines, human hepatocarcinoma cells (HepG2), an easy to handle and inexpensive
cell model, is one of most frequently used cell lines in hepatotoxicity studies. HepG2 cells, which are
isolated from a hepatoblastoma, exhibit many genotypic characteristics that are crucial for toxicity
responses [11, 12]. Indeed, these cells express a low level of CYP2E1, but the expression of other
CYPs playing essential roles in APAP metabolism (such as CYP1A1, CYP1A2, and CYP3A4) are
comparable with other more metabolic competent human hepatic models, such as HepaRG and
primary human hepatocytes (PHH) [13]. CYP2E1, exclusively located in the endoplasmic reticulum
(ER) as well as mitochondria, is an effective ROS generator in cells during catalyzing APAP
metabolism to NAPQI [14, 15]. Therefore, HepG2 cells, which has a minimal level of CYP2E1
induced ROS formation, could be a useful model to study the contribution of non CYP2E1 mediated
mitochondrial specific oxidative stress in APAP induced hepatic injury. In fact, the CYP2E1
expression and enzyme activity vary substantially in both non compound exposed and compound
exposed liver slices obtained from human donors [16, 17]. Moreover, genetic variation of CYP2E1

Volcanologists study the volcano s eruptive history or install the proper instrumentation on a volcano
well in advance of an outbreak, and continuously monitor and adequately interpret data coming from
that equipment. However, scientists have difficult forecasting volcanic eruptions, and will still have
difficulty forecasting future volcanic activities accurately. Most volcanoes have been dormant for
many years, and do not work to a timetable and do not occur regularly, or have any form of pattern to

Gender Roles In Little Mommy
The views of the time about women and men in the workplace were reflected through the story Little
Mommy written in 1959. The story showed how women were the house keepers, the nurtures of the
children, and the person to care for the house. The man was viewed as independent. He made his own
money, bought his own cars, and held less of a role in his children s lives.
The author of this book showed a little girl being a mommy. Each page showed a task that a mommy
should perform. For example the little girl is shown playing with her babies (dolls), washing dishes,
sweeping the floor, and washing clothes. There is one page in the book that mentions the daddy. He is
shown in a car. The author explains that he works in the city then the author asks, if we as readers,
think that his car is pretty? Since this book was written in the late 50 s there was a large emphasis on
the woman being at home taking care of the house and the kids; while the father went to work to
provide money for his family. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the examples from this book that disturbed me the most was Boys invent things. Girls use the
things boys invent. These two pages of the book alone showed the sexism of the author. The author
was implying that boys are handymen and are capable of using their mind to invent things. He also is
implying that girls are not as smart as boys or incapable of inventing anything for themselves because
they are girls. The author went on to point out jobs that a boy or girl can have. Examples of this
include Boys as doctors. Girls are nurses. Boys are policemen. Girls are meter maids. Boys build
houses. Girls keep houses. While expressing what boys and what girls are expected to grow up to be
this teaches the readers that boys and girls are not equal. They are not allowed to be what they want to
be, but what their gender is expected to become based on society s

CompareThe Fustoist Manifesto And The Futurist Manifesto
The industrial revolution, which began in the 18th century, caused the word modernity to become
synonymous with invention and production. The Futurist Manifesto (1909) by Tommaso Marinetti and
the Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels were two manifestos
written in times of great industrialization. Machines had become a huge part of labor and overall
society and the people within it were moving at a very fast pace. Consequently, both of these
manifestos intended to bring about change to the current ways of society. These manifestos contain
two completely different styles of writing, as a poet wrote The Futurist Manifesto and the authors of
the Manifesto of the Communist Party were politicians. Likewise, as the styles are very different, so
are the types of transformation these authors hoped to achieve in society. Manifesto of the Communist
Party and The Futurist Manifesto had similar goals of bringing about change to society and its people,
but they differed in the language and styles used, in the ways they desired to bring about change, and
the way the reflect on the past. The most similar aspect of these two manifestos is that they both agree
upon the basic idea of change. Modernity, in the times of these writings, changed people to having a
more intellectual outlook, as it would take too much effort to react emotionally to everything going on
around them. Marx seemed to agree with this facet of modernity as he encouraged thoughtfulness and

Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens. Carey argued that Jesus Great
Commission applied to all Christians of all times. He said that many sin in ease and give themselves
no concern no concerns are lost in ignorance and idolatry. Carey didn t stop there: in 1798 Thomas
and Carey had grossly underestimated the costs of living in India and Careys beginning years where

William said he was in a strange land with no Christian friend with noting to supply for us. Bu the also

started preaching to a small group and translating the Bible. Once Carey had the passion he began

Essay on Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United...
Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States Abstract Over the past years, gasoline and
electricity have been the leading energy resources. The search for an alternative source of energy has
become a complicated problem for scientists and an economic dilemma for America s public.
Scientists have been trying to recognize geothermal energy as the next leading source of energy. In
this research paper, I account for the inexpensive costs and different methods of gathering the
geothermal energy of America. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy resource which can heat and
cool buildings. Although there are some by products, using a particular type of system can help stop
their emission. In conclusion, the use of geothermal energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The pipes hold water, or glycol, transferring the heat inside buildings, which is known as heat
exchange (Solar4Scolars, para. 2 and 3). Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States 3
Government funded research into obtaining geothermal energy was greatly dynamic in the 1970s and
early 1980s. However, as oil prices declined in the mid 1980s, alternative energy sources declined,
thus, funding for geothermal energy research greatly reduced. Consequently, this monetary difficulty
stifled any advancement on geothermal technology. Now that energy concerns have resurfaced, an
opportunity exists for the U.S. to pursue the EGS [Enhanced Geothermal Systems] option aggressively
to meet long term national needs, as observed by MIT Professor Jefferson Tester (MIT, January 22,
2007, para. 19). Based on previous studies, there is evidence that geothermal energy has a hopeful
future in helping the United States. To study the potential use of geothermal energy, the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) found from experimental procedures that mining heat stored as thermal
energy can supply electricity at competitive prices and cause little detriment to the environment. The
study showed that drilling wells that reached hot rock and connecting them to regions of fractured
rock stimulated water flow. Relating to geothermal energy, this exchange of heat produced large
amounts of steam and hot water to run

Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In high school there are extracurricular activities and clubs that educators and parents feel offer many
benefits to students. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students
participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have
work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an
extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in
them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars.
One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they
don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by NewsOK, it states, The U.S.
Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a
good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students
who work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to force a student to
join one. A student who works and has school is already learning very valuable lessons and ideas
about the real world and what it takes to keep and maintain a job and they pick up many skills by
doing this. To force them into extracurriculars to learn lessons and values wouldn t make sense
because they are already learning everything they need to know to keep and maintain a job in the real

Parable Of The Sower
Introduction
As the world s population continue to migrate and live in urban areas, planners, engineers, and
politicians have an important responsibilities to ensure that they are livable and sustainable. But what
defines an urban area, and what makes it so attractive? In my opinion, urban area are places that
consists of a variety of land uses and buildings. Places where services and amenities are easily
accessible to the general public, with an efficient multimodal (i.e. rail, vehicles, bikes, public transit,
walking and etc.) established transportation network. As well, it should be a place where people can

After reading the short story as a whole, Ms. Cameron then wanted the students to read independently.
I saw Ben using skills such as, pointing to the words as he read them. However, he often pointed
twice, or skipped pointing to particular words altogether. In addition to this, while reading Ben
omitted and added new words without self correction. This made me think that this was his way of
trying to understand the text. This also leads me to believe that Ben is having some difficulty with
word recognition and fluency/pace. When Ben read the book the second time he used the pictures to
read the story with no regard for the text. This tells me that he is able to interpret the pictures in order
to understand the story when he is not able to read the sentences.
The second lesson I observed was geared towards phonemes, segmenting and blending. Ms. Cameron
did a lot of modeling before this lesson. Although I have only been in her class twice, I can tell she is a
firm believer in the I do, we do, you do method. Ms. Cameron gathered all the students on the rug and
showed the class how to tap out different sounds of the letters in words like sit, mud, sad using their
fingertips. Ben did not participate in this for the majority of the guided practice. I believe that this was
due to Ben s lack of attention during the instruction. He was rocking back and forth in his spot, in
addition to curling his legs

created enormous amounts of wealth, but people were living in the worst conditions and working

Virtue Ethics Deontology And Teleological Ethics
There are many ways to go about a situation at hand and the way you go through these instances is all
about your ethics and how you go about life. Three important ethical approaches that are all very
relatable to the lives we live today are virtue ethics, deontology and teleology. Virtue Ethics are the
ethics that highlight a person s character and traits and ignore rules about the certain situation
themselves and the consequences that could take affect after the situation is finished. Deontology or
deontology ethics take place when one s ethical position on a situation is based on the rules at hand.
This ethical approach can also be named rule based ethics because you are following the rules and not
acting upon your own characteristics or beliefs. Teleology or teleological ethics is theory of morality

My Love Essay
I was loved even before I was born, that is what my parents always told me. To be loved and fully
accepted without reservation is their greatest gift to me. Raised by Christian parents who modeled
Christ s love, my early life was uneventful and peaceful. I followed the rules and never got in any
serious trouble. So for the first ten years of my life, my faith was not tested and had no chance of
maturing. My life of ease did not incite me to seek God or his purpose for me. God was in the
background for me then.
Then came some hard times. My easy life was shaken when my mom was diagnosed with breast
cancer. This was her second cancer diagnosis and more serious than the first. Real life stress and
worry came crashing in on me. Was I being punished for some wrong doing? Would my mom survive?
What would happen to me? I was just a kid, but I knew how serious this was. At first, I did not know
where to find help and comfort. Then I remembered seeing my parents turn to prayer and the Bible
especially when they had worries. I came across Ephesian 1:4, Even before he made the world, God
loved us/me and chose us/me in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. This verse reminded
me of what my parents told me when I was very young. God chose me to have a relationship with Him
through his Son, Christ. He holds me without fault because of the sacrifice his Son made for me. My

Physics of Angular Momentum Project
Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning
Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum
explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass
and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a
direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational
speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or
L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with

momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his
rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law,
that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like
cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her
fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a
change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she
has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows
her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she
has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made
up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is
moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move.
Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are
extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she

Disadvantages Of Red Meat
From the above images it is clear that beef is high in protein which contain essential amino acids in
which we cannot produce and need to get from our diet, protein is needed for growth maintenance,
repair of the body and can also provide some energy. On average red meat 20 24g protein per 100g
raw and when cooked meats contain 27 35g per 100g cooked. In the pictures of the packet of mince
we see there is 19g protein per 100g. The protein content of the meat increases because when meat is
cooked the water content decreases and the nutrients become more concentrated. Typical cuts of beef
normally contain between 4 10g of fat per 100kg. In the product above there is 4.8g of fat per 100g of

Evian Case Study
Recommendation
Possible Potential
Due to sudden hit of recession in the year 2009, Evian had to lose most of its market share. The status
which was built by Evian for water bottles was huge and tremendous. The limited edition bottles made
by Evian were specially designed by Jean Pual Gaultier and Haute Couture, which are amongst the
renowned designers in France. From this we could understand that Evian had a great marketing
potential but it lacked in some of its marketing strategies.
The possible potential of Evian s viral marketing can be explained as below:

Social Media Marketing
1. Facebook: It is one of the most visited website amongst all social media modes of communications.
Every third person is on facebook, which makes in itself a huge place for marketing any new product
or campaign. According to our study Evian should opt for unique membership on facebook as early as
possible. Thus this will give them a quality members and the brand would be able to maintain its
status symbol. The brand should not be embarrassed in sharing a water bottle commercial online. For
facebook the brand should recommend some famous personalities from sports to Hollywood to post
their selfies with the brand on facebook. Since the people get easily related with such personalities it
will help the brand to rise at a faster rate.
2. Twitter: In comparison with Facebook, twitter is not popularly used by the people. Since the Twitter
account of Evian was not regularly updated it lost its majority of followers. We think that besides
Facebook, the twitter account should be regularly updated with tweets. The recent drive held by Evian
Babies and young people was huge hit online. The ad received numerous tweets online, thus keeping
itself updated on twitter helped Evian build its marketing

Business And Personal Affairs That Affect Organizations...
The bottom line in today s business and personal affairs that affect organizations and influences
individuals is the phenomenon called leadership. People who possess this scholarly debated persona
all have a story to tell and no two are the same. Leaders are from all walks of life and there is no
stereotype that a leader has to be recognized due to position. Frankly, leadership can be acknowledged
by a set of skills and or trait abilities that whoever wishes to acquire those traits can improve their
competency in these areas through training and experience (Northouse, 2016, p. 56), and Kouzes et.
al. (2012) are available to anyone (p. 30). The core of leadership are problem solving skills, social
judgment, and knowledge; this relationship, then can be known to society as a leader can be simplified
as those who aspire and those who choose to follow (Northouse, 2016, p. 30). In a scholarly context,
Northouse (2016) defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of
individuals to achieve a common goal (p .4).
This is a mutual relationship and of their own volition to be characterized as a leader or a follower.
This has no boundaries that define a leader among groups or organizations that may view one group as
evil, i.e. Hitler s regime or that of good. The perception of an individual, group, or organization is
relevant to the correlation of the mutually agreed influence it accepts. A leader, according to Stogdill s
findings, an individual

Allocation of Aid in Civil Wars is a tangental issue to every nation as countries that exist in conflict
tend to show minimal economic growth or recovery after the fact. Civil Wars and crises without the
allocation of humanitarian aid from the UN, OCHA, or neighboring countries leave the state of a
nation s development close to, if not completely stagnant. Furthermore, humanitarian aid can provide
a warring nation with lifesaving assistance including access to food, clean water, and healthcare. As
Lesotho s main source of economic flow comes from the export of water from dams to South Africa,
humanitarian aid will allow for the country to continue to allow South Africa, one of the most
economically fruitful nations of Africa to continue to thrive. In the case of The Kingdom of Lesotho,

For the past 6 years the Kingdom of Lesotho has experienced food insecurity as a result of the most
significant drought to the country in over four decades. Crop production in the Kingdom of Lesotho is
not only currently low, but of poor quality. These borderline famine conditions in the country has lead
to large amounts of malnutrition and disease throughout the nation. In addition to the deteriorating
health of the people of Lesotho, the largely agriculturally based economy has been negatively affected.
The Kingdom of Lesotho believes that should a civil war or national crisis occur in these conditions,
prosperity as a nation would be insubstantial. For these reasons the allocation of aid in civil wars is
important to the Kingdom of Lesotho. With humanitarian aid from OCHA, and/or neighboring
nations, the Kingdom of Lesotho believes that they will be given a chance to redeem themselves, at
the very least, partially, should they find themselves in the middle of a civil war, because there will be

Essay about Poor Law
1. Explain why the New Poor Law Amendment Act (1834) was so controversial.
There were many arguments raised about the poor law amendment act of 1834, this Act was thought
to be the most contentious piece of legislation passed during the era of the Whig s. At the time, it was
a lot about saving money, the upper class did not want to pay towards the poor law, as they believed
they were lazy and unworthy. The taxpayers, and ratepayers believed it to be wrong they should be
paying to help the poor. The workhouse system was one of the most inhumane of all time, humiliating

Some individuals wanted reform for the use of child labour, trying to get less working hours with an
age limit. Seebohm Rowntree, and Charles Booth also called for reform for these poor people, as they
were appalled at the atrocious working conditions of these factories, mills, and mines. The individuals,
and groups, who fought for these reforms, worked endlessly for many years to achieve a safe
environment for these poor people. The owners of these factories and mills had to realise, they could
still make a profit, without jeopardizing the lives of the workers through their neglect. Politicians also
knew they had to have reform in the factories, with Germany having a much healthier workforce and
better working conditions, their production was much higher than ours. They needed educated, healthy
workers to get the same standard of work Germany was producing. The first effective, piece of factory

homophobic slurs used in the locker room and on the field, granted, Ryan said that even in day to day

89 percent of homosexuals heard or felt targeted by homosexual slurs, according to the study. In my

The Witches Of Salem Witch Trials
Joey Kimbro October 11, 2017 Honors English 3 Mrs. Tammen Salem Witchcraft Trial Theories In the
1690s The afflicted girls [whom] made the accusations were some of the most powerless members of
their society ( Part II: The Witches of Salem ). Salem Witch Trials quickly became famous and
researchers began exploring the multiple possibilities behind the trials. Although many theories were
considered, none could explain why so many were accused and hanged. Notably, ergot poisoning was
a highly considered theory for the Salem trials. Farming conditions in the western part of Salem
Village, Putnam farmland, were warm, damp, and swampy, the perfect environment for fungus to
grow. The poison from ergot would grow in rye and cereal grains. ... Show more content on

Evidence points out, ...one of the afflicted girls [was a doctor s servant], and probably [had eaten]
Putnam grain, since the doctor had no grain of his own; the Putnams [had] a huge amount of farmland,
so many people [received] the Putnam grain (Nekrosius s Students). Ergot seems to be reasonable,
especially since the Putnam s farmland made up the vast majority of Salem Village. At one point,
ergot could isolate and infiltrate the crop, then by the next year, there would be no sign of ergot. To
identify whether the crop is infested or not, the rye would spew out yellow colored mucus, but no one
in Salem had any knowledge on the poison. Evidently, ergot poisoning also explains the sudden end to
the trials. In 1692, a year after the trials began, there was a drought, so many crops were not able to
grow and ergot poison could not spread. However, ergot poisoning was not the only theory suggested.
Chiefly, encephalitis was considered to be another theory that explained the Salem trials. Encephalitis
left people in coma like trances and even dead. Symptoms included inflammation of the brain,
headaches, fever, confusion, seizures, loss of hearing, and no control over eye muscles. Carlson

Literary Devices In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard...
In The Most Dangerous Game , author Richard Connell uses a variety of literary device to depict the
theme. He uses the main character, Rainsford, to be the character which unfolds the theme as he goes
through the experience of being treated like a wild animal and becoming the prey of another human
for sport. Connell uses three literary devices frequently including foreshadowing, irony and
symbolism in order to support the main theme, put yourself in the shoes of the animals you hunt.
Foreshadowing was a commonly used literary device the the author used in order to illustrate the point
of view of Rainford, a character oblivious of what was to come in his future and what he was going to
experience pertaining to emotional problems associated with hunting. Before Rainsford aborted his
ship and swam to the mysterious island, he wasn t sure of what laid ahead besides remarks his
shipmates made before portraying the nature of an island close the area they were sailing in. (Connell
pg 1) The place has a reputation, a bad one. This shows that Rainsford is in dangerous waters, but he
doesn t quite understand why. He also questions the words of his shipmates with a cleverly placed
word. (Connell pg 1) Cannibals? A cannibal is when a member of a specific species eats its own flesh.
This is hinting toward the idea of murder in the form of hunting for sport, one human harming another,
without considering their victims emotions. Another somewhat iry form of foreshadowing which the

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over a
hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of
disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years.
The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal
was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because
of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time,
that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it
s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his
life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria
filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing
almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon
after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George
Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the
Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he
committed this daring act, he was called to court

A Reflection OfManifest Destiny, And The Monroe Doctrine
The term Manifest Destiny has been a paramount concept ever since its emergence during the time of
Andrew Jackson and his ideals of westward expansion for the United States. Prior to the term of
Manifest Destiny, the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 was in full effect, in which the argument could be
made that these two concepts are somehow correlated. The primary source documents such as The
Monroe Doctrine Declares the Western Hemisphere Closed to European Intervention, 1823, and
essays such as, Expansionist Ambition, Not Republican Ideals, will support the structure of this essay,
showing that there is a reflection of Manifest Destiny ideology in the Monroe Doctrine. Using various
primary and secondary sources from Major Problems in American Foreign Relations, this short essay
will argue that the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 was a reflection of Manifest Destiny ideology. Defining
the two concepts of Manifest Destiny and The Monroe Doctrine, will be the main element in this first
body paragraph. The term Manifest Destiny illustrates the principles that are given by God, in which
give the United States pure justifications that entail expansion for universal equality and American
greatness.1 In other words, the concept given by God, Manifest Destiny, describes America s purpose
to expand its natural borders, and to expand to areas that are unfit to govern. The Monroe Doctrine of
December 1823, declared that the hemisphere was closed to European colonization and to the

The Importance Of A Long Distance Relationship
An unknown source once said, Absence makes the heart grow founder. Many have heard this because
it is such a popular saying but what does it mean? When parted from a loved one a heightened sense of
affection and devotion occurs. Couples who are in a long distance relationship (LDR) can relate to
this. A long distance relationship is a romantic relationship between two people who are
geographically separated. Distance relationships transpire for many reasons including career advances,
educational development, military service and/or deployment, imprisonment, immigration and family
responsibilities or obligations. Likewise, couples that are in a long distance relationship often face
hardships but have brighter outcomes. Being in a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, distance couples often share the same feelings of commitment and dedication. It seems likely
that the higher demand for investment and sacrifice inherent to long distance relationships might be
associated with higher levels of dedication among individuals in these relationships (Gretchen 259). It
is human tendency to prolong a task that has taken a tremendous amount of time and effort. In short,
those of distance will work harder at their relationship than those of proximity because; they have
worked to produce a relationship that is stable from afar. A feature that aids in the stability is trust.
Some level of trust must develop as each individual is not able to observe the others daily life (M.
Firmin, R. Firmin, and Lorenzen 59). Yes, trust is important is any relationship but, it is essential for a
LDR. Being away from the other half is unsettling because, watching the others routine is nearly
impossible. Those of proximity may never get to fully develop these skills because they are around to
see the others ordinary cycle. These skills are key details for a LDR and can be fulfilled in life outside
of each other. Comparatively, it is important through this journey that couples do not lose sight of their
individuality. Long distance couples are provided the time to seek out independence. In short, being in
close proximity is not an essential variable for relationship satisfaction (Phillips). Too often, people
who enter

The principal way in which Alibaba Group s organisational structure creates corporate advantage is

she s been through and how it was all her fault. Her friend replies that the diamonds were imitation
and hardly worth anything. Madame Loisel s unintended negative consequences lead her to live a life

Persia And Greeks Compare And Contrast
Greece, which lasted from 480 BCE to 323 BCE and Persia, which stood standing from 550 BCE to
330 BCE, were two empires that flourished for centuries. Although they both had victorious moments
throughout their existence, they were constantly in battle with each other. These wars lasted for
hundreds of years. The casualties were plentiful but these fights often helped their cultures spread
throughout the lands. Even though Greece and Persia had contrasting religious beliefs and social
rankings, they both thought the powerful tasks belonged to the men, not women. The Greeks and
Persians had different religious views. The Greeks were polytheistic, as they believed in more than
one god; the Persians were monotheistic and followed Zoroastrianism. The Greeks ... Show more

This made the Greeks feel closer with the gods since the gods took lives as well. Other times, the
Greeks would just offer petite cakes or cups of wine. Lastly, when the Greeks wanted advice or to
know information about the future, they would visit oracle soracles; holy places where humans could
interact with the gods. The most popular oracle was that of Apollo in Delphi. People would bring
presents to Apollo and he would answer their questions through a separate female, the Pythia. The
Greeks would use this chance to communicate with the gods to prepare for the future. On the other
hand, the Persians followed a single god, Ahuramazda the god of Zoroastrianism. The specific
birthplace of this religion is a bit unclear; but since the founder, Zoroaster, was from the eastern part of
Iran, we can guess that this is where it all started. Zoroaster believed that Ahuramazda, also known as
the wise lord , made the world we all know. But this god was intimidated by Angra Mainyu, the
hostile spirit and his fellow demons. These two fight it out for over 12,000 years and as a result, the
good of the pair wins; allowing the earth to be

Argumentative Essay On Foster Children
Abstract
In the United States there are 428,000 children in foster care. There is a plethora of reasons why
children are placed into the foster care system. Reasons could be neglect, abuse, abandonment and or
death. In order for a child to be placed into a foster home; a foster care parent must obey to the
regulations. The purpose of my research paper is I would like to answer the question should the foster
care system regulations be revised. The topic is very imperative to me because I believe that children
of the foster care system have a voice and the regulations in today s time need to be renewed so they
can have a voice. I conducted my research on this by reading Michigan regulations for foster care and
articles about foster children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the foster care rate has drastically increased, the outdated stipulations are still intact. The
foster care parent must have a license to foster a child. Once a child has reached the age of 17 the
foster care is no longer obligated to take care of the child. The reasons behind why each child is placed
into foster care can vary from being neglected or abused in a previous home, to being labeled as a
juvenile delinquent for committing several legal offenses. Foster Care has expanded over the years.
Many organizations have voiced their support for reformation of foster care. Many organizations
include United States Children Bureau, Children s Aid Society and Child Welfare League of America.
The vision is to make foster care a widely known organization. In the future, there will be more stable
homes so that children do not need foster care . More citizens will have the courage and determination
to adopt a child. The Foster Care System won t have as many cases. Parents will take care of their
children properly and less children will get in trouble so they don t have to go into the foster care
system. The System regulations are more flexible. The system cares for everyone

  • 2. Analysis Of The Pardoner My initial reaction to the work was one on astonishment. Everything that the Pardoner was saying and describing reminded me of the Evangelists of today of who travel from town to town and setup great big tents just to steal the money from good hard working people from the way the Pardoner has the same sermon practiced and rehearsed. Upon first reading, I have read this poem more than a few times, I jotted down some words that I had never heard of before, those being; Cuckold, Avarice, and Jakes. Geoffrey Chaucer lived between 1340 and 1400 in London England. The son of a Sommelier of sorts, his family made their money from the selling and buying of wine. In his teens Chaucer went to fight in the hundred years war during he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In every small village that he visits his sermon topic is always the same: greed is the root of evil. The Pardoner always preaches about greed, the same sin that he admits to possessing. Although the Pardoner himself is guilty of Greed, he warns people about the dangers of covetousness through examples from history and the Bible. However, the Pardoner himself states For I ll have money, wool, and cheese, and wheat, though given by the poorest serving lad, or by the poorest widow in the place meaning that he would rather take from the starving and destitute than give up his creature comforts. In Flanders, there were three young hooligans who loved to amuse themselves by gambling, being rambunctious and drinking. The Pardoner goes into a speech of criticism about their sinful lives. Finally, after his long speech, the Pardoner reflects back onto the three young hooligans, who are drinking at the tavern when they hear the church bell signaling the sound of a passing coffin. A servant tells the group of travelers that the dead man was a friend of the three who had been stabbed in the night by a thief called Death . Advantages And Disadvantages Of Acetaminophene Acetaminophen (APAP) is one of the most commonly used analgesic and antipyretic drugs worldwide and easily available for use without a prescription. In 2014, over 67,000 people receive an overdose of APAP in the US, among which around 1,200 cases ended with severe liver failure or death [1]. Over the past two decades, considerable effort has been made to understand the mechanisms of APAP hepatotoxicity. Although the complex molecular mechanisms remain speculative, several theories have been proposed to explain APAP induced hepatotoxicity. During metabolism, around 5 10% APAP is biotransformed into a highly reactive metabolite, N acetyl p benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), by several cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) [2]. Normally, hepatic glutathione ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among these cell lines, human hepatocarcinoma cells (HepG2), an easy to handle and inexpensive cell model, is one of most frequently used cell lines in hepatotoxicity studies. HepG2 cells, which are isolated from a hepatoblastoma, exhibit many genotypic characteristics that are crucial for toxicity responses [11, 12]. Indeed, these cells express a low level of CYP2E1, but the expression of other CYPs playing essential roles in APAP metabolism (such as CYP1A1, CYP1A2, and CYP3A4) are comparable with other more metabolic competent human hepatic models, such as HepaRG and primary human hepatocytes (PHH) [13]. CYP2E1, exclusively located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) as well as mitochondria, is an effective ROS generator in cells during catalyzing APAP metabolism to NAPQI [14, 15]. Therefore, HepG2 cells, which has a minimal level of CYP2E1 induced ROS formation, could be a useful model to study the contribution of non CYP2E1 mediated mitochondrial specific oxidative stress in APAP induced hepatic injury. In fact, the CYP2E1 expression and enzyme activity vary substantially in both non compound exposed and compound exposed liver slices obtained from human donors [16, 17]. • 8. CompareThe Fustoist Manifesto And The Futurist Manifesto The industrial revolution, which began in the 18th century, caused the word modernity to become synonymous with invention and production. The Futurist Manifesto (1909) by Tommaso Marinetti and the Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels were two manifestos written in times of great industrialization. Machines had become a huge part of labor and overall society and the people within it were moving at a very fast pace. Consequently, both of these manifestos intended to bring about change to the current ways of society. These manifestos contain two completely different styles of writing, as a poet wrote The Futurist Manifesto and the authors of the Manifesto of the Communist Party were politicians. Likewise, as the styles are very different, so are the types of transformation these authors hoped to achieve in society. Manifesto of the Communist Party and The Futurist Manifesto had similar goals of bringing about change to society and its people, but they differed in the language and styles used, in the ways they desired to bring about change, and the way the reflect on the past. The most similar aspect of these two manifestos is that they both agree upon the basic idea of change. Modernity, in the times of these writings, changed people to having a more intellectual outlook, as it would take too much effort to react emotionally to everything going on around them. Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States Abstract Over the past years, gasoline and electricity have been the leading energy resources. The search for an alternative source of energy has become a complicated problem for scientists and an economic dilemma for America s public. Scientists have been trying to recognize geothermal energy as the next leading source of energy. In this research paper, I account for the inexpensive costs and different methods of gathering the geothermal energy of America. Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States 3 Government funded research into obtaining geothermal energy was greatly dynamic in the 1970s and early 1980s. However, as oil prices declined in the mid 1980s, alternative energy sources declined, thus, funding for geothermal energy research greatly reduced. Consequently, this monetary difficulty stifled any advancement on geothermal technology. Now that energy concerns have resurfaced, an opportunity exists for the U.S. to pursue the EGS [Enhanced Geothermal Systems] option aggressively to meet long term national needs, as observed by MIT Professor Jefferson Tester (MIT, January 22, 2007, para. 19). Based on previous studies, there is evidence that geothermal energy has a hopeful future in helping the United States. To study the potential use of geothermal energy, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found from experimental procedures that mining heat stored as thermal energy can supply electricity at competitive prices and cause little detriment to the environment. The study showed that drilling wells that reached hot rock and connecting them to regions of fractured rock stimulated water flow. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars. One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by NewsOK, it states, The U.S. Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students who work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to force a student to join one. A student who works and has school is already learning very valuable lessons and ideas about the real world and what it takes to keep and maintain a job and they pick up many skills by doing this. Physics Of Angular Momentum Project Kathleen Murphy 6/16/17 Walker Physics of Angular Momentum Project Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with the I being the inertia (kg x m2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this would be a man with his arms extended, holding weights. If his arms are extended with weights on the end, his overall rotational inertia is relatively large and as he turns, his angular momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law, that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move. Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Business And Personal Affairs That Affect Organizations... The bottom line in today s business and personal affairs that affect organizations and influences individuals is the phenomenon called leadership. People who possess this scholarly debated persona all have a story to tell and no two are the same. Leaders are from all walks of life and there is no stereotype that a leader has to be recognized due to position. Frankly, leadership can be acknowledged by a set of skills and or trait abilities that whoever wishes to acquire those traits can improve their competency in these areas through training and experience (Northouse, 2016, p. 56), and Kouzes et. al. (2012) are available to anyone (p. 30). The core of leadership are problem solving skills, social judgment, and knowledge; this relationship, then can be known to society as a leader can be simplified as those who aspire and those who choose to follow (Northouse, 2016, p. 30). In a scholarly context, Northouse (2016) defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (p .4). This is a mutual relationship and of their own volition to be characterized as a leader or a follower. This has no boundaries that define a leader among groups or organizations that may view one group as evil, i.e. Hitler s regime or that of good. The perception of an individual, group, or organization is relevant to the correlation of the mutually agreed influence it accepts. A leader, according to Stogdill s findings, an individual ... Civil Wars and crises without the allocation of humanitarian aid from the UN, OCHA, or neighboring countries leave the state of a nation s development close to, if not completely stagnant. Furthermore, humanitarian aid can provide a warring nation with lifesaving assistance including access to food, clean water, and healthcare. As Lesotho s main source of economic flow comes from the export of water from dams to South Africa, humanitarian aid will allow for the country to continue to allow South Africa, one of the most economically fruitful nations of Africa to continue to thrive. There were many arguments raised about the poor law amendment act of 1834, this Act was thought to be the most contentious piece of legislation passed during the era of the Whig s. Salem Witch Trials quickly became famous and researchers began exploring the multiple possibilities behind the trials. Although many theories were considered, none could explain why so many were accused and hanged. Notably, ergot poisoning was a highly considered theory for the Salem trials. Farming conditions in the western part of Salem Village, Putnam farmland, were warm, damp, and swampy, the perfect environment for fungus to grow. Ergot seems to be reasonable, especially since the Putnam s farmland made up the vast majority of Salem Village. At one point, ergot could isolate and infiltrate the crop, then by the next year, there would be no sign of ergot. To identify whether the crop is infested or not, the rye would spew out yellow colored mucus, but no one in Salem had any knowledge on the poison. Evidently, ergot poisoning also explains the sudden end to the trials. In 1692, a year after the trials began, there was a drought, so many crops were not able to grow and ergot poison could not spread. However, ergot poisoning was not the only theory suggested. Chiefly, encephalitis was considered to be another theory that explained the Salem trials. Encephalitis left people in coma like trances and even dead. Symptoms included inflammation of the brain, headaches, fever, confusion, seizures, loss of hearing, and no control over eye muscles. Connell uses three literary devices frequently including foreshadowing, irony and symbolism in order to support the main theme, put yourself in the shoes of the animals you hunt. Foreshadowing was a commonly used literary device the the author used in order to illustrate the point of view of Rainford, a character oblivious of what was to come in his future and what he was going to experience pertaining to emotional problems associated with hunting. Before Rainsford aborted his ship and swam to the mysterious island, he wasn t sure of what laid ahead besides remarks his shipmates made before portraying the nature of an island close the area they were sailing in. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Defining the two concepts of Manifest Destiny and The Monroe Doctrine, will be the main element in this first body paragraph. The term Manifest Destiny illustrates the principles that are given by God, in which give the United States pure justifications that entail expansion for universal equality and American greatness.1 In other words, the concept given by God, Manifest Destiny, describes America s purpose to expand its natural borders, and to expand to areas that are unfit to govern. In short, those of distance will work harder at their relationship than those of proximity because; they have worked to produce a relationship that is stable from afar. A feature that aids in the stability is trust. Some level of trust must develop as each individual is not able to observe the others daily life (M. Firmin, R. Firmin, and Lorenzen 59). Yes, trust is important is any relationship but, it is essential for a LDR. Being away from the other half is unsettling because, watching the others routine is nearly impossible. Those of proximity may never get to fully develop these skills because they are around to see the others ordinary cycle. These skills are key details for a LDR and can be fulfilled in life outside of each other. Comparatively, it is important through this journey that couples do not lose sight of their individuality.
