The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith Essay
In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith talks about international trade and subsequent government
policies which became increasingly significant throughout modern history. Protectionism is the
term for economic policies of restraining trade between countries when they want to protect their
domestic industries from foreign competition. Trades nowadays have different forms and methods
and involve more businessmen as well as consumers, which is why tradediplomats are looking to
regional agreements. The US experienced two major economic declines during the 20th century,
both of which had much to do with international trade. Smith mentioned tariffs in the 18th century,
but the role and forms of protectionismhave changed across time, so we should know whether the
development of economy should actually be correlated with or decided by the political sector of the
society and when protectionism will benefit or hurt economy.
Main protectionist policies include tariffs, quotas, embargos and voluntary export restraints, and
Adam Smith s idea of absolute advantage has been developed further to explain international trade.
In recent years, protectionism has become closely related to globalization during which the
influences of trades spread almost everywhere, so people insist upon the study of social
deformities generated by improper policies on international trade and the task of pointing them out
with a view to remedy. There are certainly both economic and political purposes of trade

Informative Essay On Television Shows
Television shows that I believe are quality programs, breaking bad, being nominated for 58
industry awards but winning a total of 28, the critically acclaimed show always kept its storyline
fresh and unpredictable, as well as the characters in the show. Since Bryan Cranston s
performance alone was outstanding and thrilling, it kept the viewer at the edge of their seat
wanting more. Because people wanted more, the show received high ratings which led to the
growth of its popularity that catapulted the show to one of the top shows of the decade. The
second program to be quality worthy is Game of Thrones with 248 industry awards from Golden

it to be a shame factor. Clearly there are many religious, laws and social taboos against the
practice and use of pornography. Italian culture has tasteful products from the arts, architecture to
its divine cuisine and music. Italy is a land rich in culture, history and beauty. Culture as

associated with good taste and lower floor being associated with low culture/popular culture . Good
taste meaning the arts held in the highest admiration by a culture, linking from our reading this

Cost Of Extremism Essay
Although countries use extreme measures to protect their people s liberties, it takes away other
individuals rights. At the 1964 Republican Convention, Barry Goldwater made the following
remark: Extremism is the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no
virtue. It is not ideal to use extremism at any means for defense because it involves violence and
danger towards its citizens. Extremism takes away personal liberties by hurting innocent people and
restricting them from certain individuals.
Extremist approaches have hurt innocent people. In 1945 Truman declared to use atomic bombs on
the city of Hiroshima. The decision to bomb Japan was horrific in all aspects. Millions of people

President Trump has proposed a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants. The government
has taken inhumane tactics of rounding up and deporting them. There have been armed federal
officers showing up at people s homes, taking women and children out of their beds in the middle of
the night. From personal experience of being from an undocumented family, people are afraid of
their own government. Extremism restricts the liberties of some people by taking their right to be
treated with humane respect. Trump wants to further his plans by ending birthright citizenship to
children of undocumented parents. Trumps stated that birthright citizenship remains the biggest
magnet for illegal immigration. Taking this extreme measure will go against the Fourteenth
Amendment and take away liberties from certain group of individuals such as being protected in the
United States. To protect personal liberties, there should not be an extremist approach. Extremism

Toxic Leadership In Special Forces (SF)
Toxic leadership can develop within Special Forces (SF) because of concern for compromising
command authority and because the personality profile of a toxic leader can be mistaken as type A
personality that thrives in SF.
LTG Ulmer fully discusses the Army s concern of compromising command authority and how that
can foster toxic leaders. SF is susceptible to toxic leadership for this same reason. A sergeant major
will crush a group of teammates who try to solve their toxic leadership issue through collective
mutiny. The military is a top down driven organization and chain of command is more important to
maintain than removal of one toxic leader.
I witnessed this firsthand when a team sergeant, who was toxic, came to my ODA just prior ... Show

My experience with confronting a toxic leader was not successful. Four of us made a deliberate
plan on how to approach the individual and on the specific issues that we needed to raise. In our
approach only one of us addressed our boss privately, and made it known that he spoke for the
group. Our boss seemed to be receptive in the moment and was even appreciative. Unfortunately
in the weeks following the confrontation he made work very difficult on the four of us. I now
realize that he exhibited two classic characteristics of a toxic leader. LTG Ulmer states that toxic
leader can be charming when the occasion fits and that they rarely take blame. Our boss was
charming to my colleague to end the confrontation as quickly as possible. He also refused to

Community In S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders
S.E. Hinton s realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1950
s. The Outsiders is about a small town where the town is divided into two social classes the
Greasers and the Socs. From the Socs perspective the Greasers are the low life junkies who are in
gangs even though they re really just in a less fortunate circumstances, and the Socs are the more
privileged kids. Ponyboy is the younger of his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. While some
believe the strongest theme is divided community, I argue that the strongest theme is loyalty, as
supported by S.E. Hinton s use of dialogue, characterization, and conflict. While it is easy to say
that the theme of The Outsiders is divided community. For example there are... Show more content

When the Socs and Greasers have a rumble, (Hinton 130), and all the Greaser gangs teamed up to
fight the Socs together.Next, the dialogue is when two or more characters are talking out loud
in a story, and their conversation are surrounded by quotation marks. Darry would be a Soc if It
wasn t for you and Soda, (Hinton 20). This is when Darry shows loyalty to his brothers and his
gang by not becoming a Soc. Dally may be a jerk but he is a Greaser and Greasers stick together,
(Hinton15). This quote means that Greasers are like family you stick up for them no matter
what. Also it shows how Pony thinks Dally is a jerk, but he considers him family.Secondly,
Characterization is when a character in the story or the narrator describes how a character acts
or looks like. Pony describes Soda as handsome like the movie star kind. (Hinton 10). This part
of characterization shows how soda could have say for example a movie star because most
actors have to be handsome, but he stayed with his brothers to help them out. Pony also describes
Darry as strong, confident, and too young to be running a family on his own if at all. (Hinton 10).
This piece of characterization shows how Darry doesn t turn his back on his brothers and leave
them he stays by their side to take care of them.Lastly, conflict is when one or more character are in
an argument or are physically fighting. One of the major conflicts is when Johnny runs

The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill
Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The
Subjection of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society
and their unequal relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were
considered to be inferior to men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be
submissive in nature. Deeply influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart
Mills own beliefs, The Subjection of Womenwas published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature
that would not only challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate
for different approaches in light of modern times. Throughout his essay Mill... Show more content

Therefore, any conclusions on woman s nature should only be taken after women have been given
the chance to truly experience equality. As Mill himself maintained:
I deny that anyone knows or can know, the nature of the two sexes, as long as they have only been
seen in their present relation to one another. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly
assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is
natural to the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties
freely
Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society
had seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in
life, when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to
believe that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything
else. However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the
mentality that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. That they have been taught
to submit to the superiority of males and most importantly to always put first the interest of their
family and their men before her own, defining with it the way females

Enzymes
Enzymes in detergent
1) What enzymes are used to make this product?
There are essentially six main enzymes involved in detergent, specifically amylases, proteases,
lipases, pectinases, cellulases, and mannanases. Each of these enzymes are responsible for targeting
stains containing specific macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.
2) What type of reactions do the enzymes catalyze, and why is this of value?
Amylases are typically responsible for catalysing the breakdown of starches which can be of value
in removing the stains of foods such as cereals, pastas, and gravies. The enzyme hydrolyses the
bonds within the starch molecule which decomposes it into dextrins and other oligosaccharides,
which are soluble and can easily be removed in the wash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the source of two types of proteases are Bacillus alcalophilus and Bacillus lentus. The
most common sources of amylases are the bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens,
and Bacillus licheniformis. On the other hand, lipases are currently being sourced from yeast,
bacteria, fungus, and from mammals. Biotex is the main source of cellulases, and have been in use
since 1987.
4) Have the enzymes been modified for the process?
One example of enzyme modification for its use in detergents are cellulases. This enzyme which
is used to maintain the quality and brightness of clothing can be chemically modified to have a
greater stability when used in an alkaline medium. This is done by exposing the cellulases to
certain reagents like malcic anhydride. Another example of a modified enzyme would be the
alkaline protease, which replaced the endogenous protease. This enzyme was derived from an
alkalophilic strain of bacteria called Bacillus cereus, and is currently being used due to its stability
at higher water temperatures.

Becoming An Ally By White Americans
Becoming an Ally
When white Americans choose to self educate about systemic racism they can become allies in the
fight to dismantle racist structures in our society. Systemic racism is a theory that takes a look at
how individual, structural, and institutional forms of racism intersect, overlap, and create a deep
rooted form of prejudice and discrimination that advantages a cultural group at the expense of
others in all institutions of a society economics, political representation, the criminal justice system,
employment, and many others. (Luther College 2015). This includes discrimination affecting
credit, schooling, justice, residential location, etc. It can be eradicated in the next century, but not
without white people acknowledging that it is a real issue that cost lives. It is not the duty of the
oppressed to make a liberty sales pitch to their oppressors. However, it is the responsibility of
those benefiting from the oppression of others to become educated, listen, and use their privilege to
combat injustice. Asian, Latino, Black, and First Nations people respectively do not experience
white supremacy in the same ways. Throughout this essay I will focus on the systemic racism
targeted at Black people, using the term People of Color , coined by Black Feminists in the 1970s,
abbreviated to PoC, to refer to them.
The first step to becoming an ally to People of Color is to become educated about the issue to
understand that racism did not disappear with the Civil

and draws him a sketch of what she observed during the alien autopsy . Strangely enough, she
was transferred from the funeral home shortly after and never heard from again. The news of

uncovered has made the Roswell crash the most celebrated case in the literature of UFOs. In

Essay on The King of Comedy Life of Jerry Lewis
The King of Comedy Life of Jerry Lewis
I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I
can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not differ nor neglect it, for I shall not
pass this way again (TOJLCMS, 5). For Jerry Lewis, this was a common outlook he had. Jerry has
devoted his life to entertaining others and putting a smile on their faces. Although he did suffer
numerous struggles, Jerry Lewis has still successfully made it to the top (Lewis, 3).
Joseph Levitch was born March 16, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. He was born to Danny and Rae

In less then eighteen weeks, the salaries of Martin and Lewis soared from $250.00 a week to
$5,000.00 a week (Shaviro, 1). Together they made a total of 16 films over a 10 year span
(Shaviro, 1). On July 25th of the year the two made their last nightclub appearance together at the
Copacabana, exactly 10 years to the day since they became a team (Shaviro, 1).
Jerry then met a female by the name of Patti. Jerry and Patti were married by a justice of peace in
Greenwich Connecticut (Levy, 50). Patti was a Catholic but did not wanted to convert to
Judaism because she felt secure in her faith since childhood (Levy, 50). In April of 1943, before
the authority of a rabbi and the watchful eye of Rae, Danny, and a small brood of aunts and uncles,
and cousins, Jerry and his six month pregnant wife stood under a Chuppah to be married once
again (Levy, 50).
Lewis had a love for baseball. During the 50 s and 60 s, Jerry played 1st base with numerous
Professional baseball teams and trained every year with the LA Dodgers (TOJLCMS, 2). Through
this experience, He has become close friends with Gil Hodges (TOJLCMS, 2).
Lewis acted, wrote, produced, and directed many movies. His movies consist of My friend Irma,

Unobtrusive Attitudes
Beyond Fazio et al. s (1995) intention to introduce an unobtrusive method of measuring attitudes (in
their case, prejudice against African Americans), they demonstrated the problems of reactivity and
conceptual confounding present in the frequently used Modern Racism Scale (MRS). Such
unreliability of explicit attitude measures puts the use of self reports in social psychological
research into question. Essentially, their study aimed not so much as to demonstrate how prejudice
is expressed and manifested but to provide evidence for their own method of measuring attitudes as
they are automatically activated. Central to their method is the hypothesis of facilitation:
Participants will assign positive or negative valences to presented adjectives at a shorter and
response latency (i.e. facilitated) if the adjective s valence is congruent to the evaluation
automatically activated by the prime. People are then not asked explicitly asked about their
attitudes (which is instead inferred from the pattern of facilitation), thus eliminating their tendency
to choose which responses would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was tasked to rate the quality of the interaction with the participants. Indeed, the unobtrusive
attitude measures correlated significantly with the experimenter s interaction ratings (based on the
friendliness and interest of the participant). However, such measure remains a form of self report
liable to subjective biases and rating errors. The researchers also offered no explanation as to
whether the experimenter had been trained on what criteria of rating was to be used. This issue
may be crucial as such ratings have been used extensively to distinguish between the unobtrusive
measure and the MRS, and to attest to the former s ability to predict actual prejudice behavior (i.e.

Celtic Mythology and Folklore
Many people today can associate with the classic tale of leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end

was an integral part of ancient history throughout the British Isles especially Ireland. Authors of
this magnificent form of literature have created stories that were based on the events of that time
period and their works have transcended to future generations up until today. Overall, Celtic
mythology and folklore has had a magnanimous impact on the world in lending itself for priceless

from approximately the fourth century B.C. extending to approximately the early third century as
Christianity was spreading and more of Celts were converting to Christianity. After converting,
the Celts dropped all traces of their former religion to be found by subsequent inhabitants of their
lands. First the stories and tales were told by oral tradition and later written down by bards, poets,
and monks. This literature could be found across Ireland, Wales, Scotland, bits of England, and

Amanda Knox Trial
When you Google search the name Amanda Knox, roughly 11,000,000 results appear; primarily
featuring stories about her life and social media accounts. Yet, when you enter the same name into
the LexisNexis database, 977 newspaper related articles appear. The LexisNexis database provides
electronic accessibility to legal and journalistic documents; this shows that the media did not cover
the legal aspect of Knox s story as much as they covered her personal life. This discovery makes
me question: why was the media so infatuated with reporting about Amanda Knox s life, rather than
her murdertrial? On November 1, 2007, Meredith Kercher a British exchange student, from the
University of Leeds, was found dead in her home in Perugia, Italy. Meredith s lifeless body was
discovered by her flatmate, Amanda Knox and Knox s boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Meredith s

guilty on all counts in the brutal murder of Meredith Kercher. Knox received a 26 year sentence

The purpose of the fluid flow meters experiment was to determine the operating characteristics of
the Venturi and orifice meters. The purpose of the tray hydraulics experiment was to study the
vapor and liquid tray hydraulics parameters for sieve, or perforated, trays in a distillation column.
By performing experiments based on theory and comparing results to literature values, the
objectives of this experiment can be achieved. Both the orifice and the Venturi meters produce a
restriction in the flow and measure the pressure drop across the meter. The velocity of a fluid is
expected to increase as the fluid flows from an open area, to a more constricted area. Assuming
incompressible flow, a negligible height change, and steady state, Bernoulli s equation can be
simplified to show the correlation between the volumetric flow rate and the pressure drop. The
equation for both meters is as follows: w=QПЃ=CYA22gc(p1 p2)ПЃ1 ОІ4 (1) 1 where A2 is the
cross sectional area of the throat, C is the coefficient of discharge (dimensionless), gc is the
dimensional constant, Q is the volumetric rate of discharge measured at upstream pressure and

downstream static pressure taps, respectively, Y is a dimensionless expansion factor, ОІ is the ratio

His later plays were written for small audiences; they experimented with masks, dance, and music,
and were profoundly influenced by the Japanese Noh plays. Although a convinced patriot, Yeats

protests against it
His recurrent themes are the contrast of art and life, masks, cyclical theories of life and the ideal of
beauty and ceremony contrasting with the chaos of modern life.

Multitasking Affects The Brain
Multitasking affects the brain and is a serious problem. When someone is texting, or talking on the
phone while studying or doing a paper, their brain cannot focus on both and the person could end
up failing the test or getting a bad grade on their paper because the brain is trying to process
information from studying or doing homework, and texting or talking on their phone. Students and
even people think they can multitask but they cannot, it is not possible to focus on two or more
tasks at a time without the brainforgetting some information, the brain needs time to process the
information and to switch gears after each task. The brain can only focus on one task at a time.

Application Of A Penetration Testing Against `` My House...
Chapter 3: Practical test
My House lab Scenario.
For this coursework I have decided to perform a penetration testing against My House lab , to
evaluate and improve my WLAN Infrastructure security.
The scenario that I had examined is a WLAN Infrastructure Network using a Virgin Media Super
Hub (Netgear) , with more than 10 devices connected .
Looking on the internet about the router model I own I could make an interesting discovery. I
found an article written by an expert in computer security, Paul Moore, dating back to March
2014(Paul Moore,2014). This guy, a year ago, had found a flaw inside the super hub of
VirginMedia. Indeed reboot the router took 1 minute to start well, and in this minute for seven
seconds was able to access the WiFi network without the need for key. Fortunately Paul contacted
the Virgin who in turn contacted the Netgear to try to resolve the issue with the release of a new
firmware.
Now the problem is resolved, however is an interesting issue happened, because sometimes, our
security depends not only on us and what we can do to protect it and keep it. Sometimes there may
be larger obstacles, as in this case an error of firmware that we can circumvent but not eliminate
(until the company responsible is not able to patch it).
Methodologies
I adopted different steps to performing penetration testing that is effective in testing how well the
My House lab is secure. I have used different softwares such as NMap , Wareshark,

Karl Marx View On Capitalism
Karl Marx was a philosopher who was engaged in economic politics, sociology, and radical
politics. Marx saw the world as two different entities. He saw it as a scuffle between the
bourgeoisie and the proletariats. This is what divided the capitalist society. Marx believed
everyone works in some shape, form, and fashion. The bourgeoisie were the individuals that held
the capital and the proletariats were the wage laborers. The social aspect would then come in to
play. Marx would then try to figure out how the bourgeoise and the proletariats could thrive in a
world that had the poverty but there was plenty of wealth. Meaning how would the individuals who

However, we learned in Dr. Tatum s class that Rousseau had a major influence on the French and

In my opinion, Rousseau would evaluate in the state of nature how man would have their
freedom. You could say that men or man is actually free because he is not forced by state or other
individuals. Another way, man is mentally and spiritually free and is not succumbed to wants or
needs of society. Rousseau thought that a worthy government should be or have freedom for
everyone in its social class. From the Discourse of Inequality to the possibility of being well

It was very difficult for me to accept the reality that I can t have the life I had in India. So, that

Most of the nights we go to bed without seeing or talk to each other. But, on Saturdays and
Sundays, thankfully, we try our best to give time for each other before going to bed. Societies are

all these divorces.

Distortion in Brave New World Essay
Distortion in Brave New World
Distortion is an image of a thought or idea that appears to have a single affect on a society, but in
actuality provides one that is totally different. Often times in order for readers to understand the
realism of today s society and the point that the author tries to make in presenting its flaws, the
writer must distort reality. In doing this he urges the reader to engage in a deep thought processthat
forces them to realize the reality of a situation, rather than perceiving it to be good or evil based
on the dilutions of individuals. In his novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley uses tomorrow s

You Can Do It Baby By Leslie Garrety Analysis
Are Parents Actually Against You? The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett
portrays an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it
involves their future. The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can
be whatever they want to be. The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is
giving her opinion on how all children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in
reality, they can t. The author of this article makes the point that she believes it causes long term
harm on children by telling them this instead of helping them in their future. She states this
causes children to consider themselves as a failure when they cannot become whatever they
want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel entitled or disappointed in life when they find
out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that adults should not be telling this to kids
because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and references. There is an editorial
cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same idea as Garrett. The
cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These two articles
use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of research that
all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want to be
when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete,
doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of
these things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a
bus driver? Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they
grow up. These conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children
they can be anything they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects.
Many children in these studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. If
a child has such high hopes that they can be a professional athlete, they will not be happy with
what they end up doing as a

In one sense, Oscar can be viewed as privileged due to his gender but because he is black and in a

Oscar s gender does give him an advantage but his race and class changes the extent of his
privilege in his process to try and make it to the top of the reef. This is an example of the way that
being intersectionally marginalized can affect a person s entire life style.
The Lion King and Shark Tale both have characters that are portrayed as both black and lower

actors used for the characters are all black as well. The hyenas live in the Elephant Graveyard,
which is clearly portrayed as the inferior location in the film. It s portrayed in a dark, dirty, and

the film. The individuals that live in Pride Rock, the higher class area, also discriminate and talk
very badly about the Elephant Graveyard and those living there, implying elitism within those
who are higher class. The animals in Pride Rock specifically make it clear that only individuals
that live in Pride Rock are to be leaders of the kingdom. This also portrays elitism within the upper

Finding An Agent Should Be The Step Before Polishing Your...
When pursuing a career as an author, finding an agent should be the step immediately after
polishing your manuscript. Although some people prefer to submit directly to a publisher, that s
no longer a reliable method. Most of the bigger publishing houses don t accept unsolicited
submissions. Besides that, agents have network connections and insider information that you do
not. Submitting to an agent is the recommended course of action. Aside from the query letter
itself, the synopsis is the most important part of the initial query. The synopsis explains your plot
and entices an agent to read your full manuscript. If you want to avoid your submission being
disregarded, there are certain conventions that must be followed; in this report, you will learn
about the typical voice, format, organization, and style conventions. The first convention, voice, is

The Stimulus Of The Words
In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize
known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to
make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in
that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence
helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when
strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one
relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does
because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the
concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three
metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its
own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial
impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of
metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that
music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non
musical meanings. But the exploration can be turned inside out so that we might say that Carroll in
his quirky sounds and made up strange

The Narrator In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
The narrator plays a key role in the development of the plot and meaning of a story. A Rose for
Emily, by William Faulkner, tells the story of Miss Emily Grierson and her mysterious, isolated life.
The narrator of the story, who never reveals their identity, presents the story in a unique way; using
a slight combination of first and third person points of view. Although hard to identify, the narrator
at some points does and does not include themselves in the information they are sharing with the
readers. To start, the author narrates using this style to keep the readers wondering and interested.
In addition, Faulkner wishes to portray Emily as a sympathetic character. Also, the narrator
communicates the story in a manner similar to the way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life,
towards the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but
why she acts a certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the
readers feel sympathy towards Emily is when her father s death comes up. The narrator reveals
this at the beginning, so her following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she
insists that he is not dead and does not want them to take his body away from her. The narrator
says, We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The
readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection for Emily and admires her, as her
behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to provide outside observations
to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example, Emily s point of view, the
readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help understand her situation.
The narrator provides foreshadowing, We did not say she was crazy then (Faulkner 153). The word
then indicates that the citizens did not see her as crazy before; but once they discover more
information they realize that something is definitely not right. In conclusion, the narrator tells the
story out of order to make the readers sympathetic towards Miss Emily so they have the ability to
connect with

Why Stalin Emerged as the Sole Leader of the U.S.S.R. and Not Trotsky Trotsky was a leading
Bolshevik and played a pivotal role in the revolution, persuading Lenin to delay the revolution
until the Bolshevik s had a much stronger place in the country. He also was crucial to the civil
war, as he organised the troops and motivated them. Stalin on the other hand was in charge of all
the dull jobs within the Bolshevik party and In Lenin s last Testament, he was referred to as rude
and he needed to be removed. So why did Stalin, and not Trotsky emerge as Lenin s successor. It s
a mixture of Stalin s luck and skill, and Trotsky s misfortune, which will be explained in the

these were the left wing and the right wing. The left wing said it should go and the right wing

being the general secretary, who was in charge of recruiting people, so when the Lenin enrolment

Date Submitted Types of White Collar Crime: There are different types of criminal offenses
since a criminal act can be regarded as a specific type of offense based on the nature of crime.
The various types of criminal activities have developed to become more than a single problem to
nearly all criminal justice systems across the globe. The main reason for the divergent
classification of criminal activities is because they occur in different settings and are conducted for
different motives. The major types of crimes across the globe are drug, street, organized, political,
victimless, and white collar crimes. Street crimes and drug crime problems have developed to
become the two leading problems for many law enforcement agencies. White collar crimes can be
described as offenses that are conducted or occur with a business setting ( About the Different
Types , n.d.). Some of the major white collar crimes are theft and fraud, counterfeiting, bribery and
kickbacks, public corruption, mail fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, and identity theft.
These types of crimes need to be approached with critical and careful care because they sometimes
involve difficult financial transactions and high profile figures such as politicians or business
executives. One of the major differences between white collar crimes and other types of illegal
activities is the fact that these types of offenses do not involve physical violence since they are non

The seventh man should forgive himself for his failure to save K. s life. In the novel the seventh
man , the seventh man is a child during a typhoon. He and his best friend ,K., go down to the
water during the eye of the storm to investigate the shoreline. When they reached the beach, there
were lots of unfamiliar and fascinating items washed up on the shore. The boys were so focused
on the treasures that, consequently, they did not notice the waves creeping up the shore. Our
narrator, the seventh man, noticed a huge wave moving quickly and maliciously in from the
horizon. As he runs to shelter behind the breakwall, he yells for K. to run away from the water.
However, K. is still entranced by the debris at the shoreline and doesn t hear him. The seventh
man knows that he should go back for K., but he is transfixed by the horror of it all and only

run away; but, it is too late. K. is sucked away from the beach in a thunderous torrent of water. In
the next wave that attacks the shoreline, the seventh man sees K. s body; grinning horrendously

Analysis Of Billy Collins Introduction To Poetry
Billy Collins demonstrates his ideas about the real significance of poetry, he conveys his point of
view through his poems Introduction to poetry and The trouble with poetry . Thorough out his
poems, he emphasizes the idea of inspiration, innocence, and passion thoroughly in both poems,
however there are many contrasts between the lines as well. In Introduction to poetryCollins
questions the behavior of his audience towards his writing, he conveys the idea of transparency
as he symbolizes the idea of rebirth. He mentions that a poem should be brought back to life. As
well as in The trouble with poetry the idea of purity and innocence using nature figures cold

ways whether the torture is being done physically, or ,mentally by the audience in a way that the
audience does not take the poem to its beauty but instead they would break it down for analyzing.
The idea of torturing represents such a dull tone that conveys violence and the pain caused as if
the poem was a real human being. The poem is being butchered by the ignorance and the urge to
know more about what is behind the poem and what it means. Alike of what is emphasized in The
trouble with poetry , there is a sense of dullness and sadness that explains the passion, the
admiration and the emotional connectivity an

Maria Montessori And The Montessori Method
Maria Montessori was born on August 1870, in a small town in Italy. She was the first woman to
obtain her medical degree, which was in 1896. She was intended to challenge the trust of
Educations worldwide. In 1906, Maria Montessori worked with handicap children and decided to
open her first school, called Casa dei Bambini, which meant Children s House. She is the founder of
education called Montessori Method. The Montessori method teaches children to learn through
the work that they do. She is also notable for being the first woman to graduate from the
University of Rome with a doctorate degree. She died in May 1952, in Netherlands. An auto
education is when the child is self taught on how to do a task. The child is able to move onto
extensions when they complete the task. Children control their own ability to learn with a little
guidance from the teacher. The Practical Life materials that the child work with such as a spoon,
teaches the child how to use the spoon and with the proper wrist movements helps the child to
learn how to feed themselves. Using a pitcher for water pouring work, teaches the child how to
pour water with a pitcher for themselves (self serving). Every child uses these activities through
trial and error until they have mastered the task. The sensitive period is the pattern the experience

Minneapolis: Augsburg Books, 2006.
This resource asserts that stewardship is not just about how much money they give to the church. It
is about helping them make better decisions financially. A church also has to realize that they
could be giving to other organizations, but they are giving to the church. Do not take this for
granted. It also has a section on the biblical text development of stewardship. This would be helpful
to identify key passages.

Juveniles Of The Juvenile Justice System
Picture a mother receiving a phone call from the local police station that her ten year old son is
being held in a jail cell for stealing school supplies and is facing charges of five years in prison;
his mother weeps as she knows it is her fault for not being able to afford them. This has been an
issue in the juvenile system since the early 1800s. The juvenile justice system has not been strong
enough to find an appropriate sentence for small crimes committed by children who are not living
stable lives. In the 1800s, they believed that the death sentence was one of the only ways to teach
people that crimeis not permissible, and even if children committed a very low level crime, they
could be put to death. Since then, the justice system has gone through phases of accepting the death
sentence for children, to banning the death sentence for children under 18, and then banning the
death sentence and life without parole for children completely. Many of these children have not had
a fair chance in the system and have been punished for crimes that others may have done, so this
problem must be fixed. Although most people would say that juveniles should be punished for their
crimes, the community should be better involved in helping these children to know that these
crimes are not allowed, and if they are committed, the community should be there to help these
children learn from their mistakes. The juvenile justice system was first brought to attention in the
early 1800s when

Historical Inaccuracies In King Arthur
King Arthur, a movie starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightly, is placed under the genre
historical fiction , however the movie is unquestionably more of the fiction part of the genre than
the historical aspect of it. The movie is loosely based on the story of a King Arthur and his
Knights. The movie was set in 467 AD, in Britain, near Hadrian s Wall. Although the movie
pertained Roman soldiers still in Britain during 467 AD, this was factually inaccurate because all
of the Roman s had left Britain prior to this time, around 410 AD. The plot of the movie voiced the
story of King Arthurand the Sarmatian knights going on one last mission to save a Roman family
from behind Hadrian s before they gain their freedom, for the knights are not Roman. The story is

The movie tries to blend together all of the myths and legends that pertain to the mystery of the
medieval and/or Roman King Arthur , such as Lancelot, Merlin, and Guinevere. Although the movie
is loosely based on historical facts, there are many inaccuracies and faults in the plot line and
production of the movie. Throughout the movie King Arthur, there are factual inaccuracies and
accuracies regarding weaponry, King Arthur himself, and Christianity. The weaponry used
throughout the film by the Roman forces and Knights during the battle scenes were erroneous to
the actual weapons they used during this time. The movie denoted and showed that the Romans
used trebuchets, a type of siege weapon. However, the Romans did not use this type of artillery
(Lawton, Brian). The trebuchet was

Creativism a Constant Company of Humans Throughout History
As Carl Gustav Jung wisely stated, there is a certain fascination with regard to creativity.
Creativity expresses itself in many different forms, shapes, sizes, colours and sounds. It is a
concept difficult to grasp as it is broad. However most people would think of themselves as being
able to judge who and what is actually creative. But what exactly is creativity? Amible (1983)
defines creativity as the production of ideas, insights and also products that are both, original
and adaptive. Originality in this context refers to novelty of an idea and adaptation to the
appropriateness. This is the definition predominantly used in creativity research (Sternberg
Lubart 1999; Simonton Damian,2013) and is therefore used in this paper as well. In historical
terms, creativity was a constant accompanist of human kind. We had to change the environment,
and invent tools according to our needs in order to survive. Thus, creativity is a universal
occurrence in all cultures (Simonton Ting, 2010). However, which idea is assumed to be
original and appropriate, so considered to be creative, depends strongly on context and time
(Njistad et al., 2010). As stated by Nijstad et al. (2010) the work of Vincent van Gough is a good
example of a different perception of creativity in different times. When Van Gough died he was a
poor man but his works are sold for millions today. Similar is the example of the French post
impressionist artist Paul Gauguin who was not well appreciated until

  • 2. The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith Essay In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith talks about international trade and subsequent government policies which became increasingly significant throughout modern history. Protectionism is the term for economic policies of restraining trade between countries when they want to protect their domestic industries from foreign competition. Trades nowadays have different forms and methods and involve more businessmen as well as consumers, which is why tradediplomats are looking to regional agreements. The US experienced two major economic declines during the 20th century, both of which had much to do with international trade. Smith mentioned tariffs in the 18th century, but the role and forms of protectionismhave changed across time, so we should know whether the development of economy should actually be correlated with or decided by the political sector of the society and when protectionism will benefit or hurt economy. Main protectionist policies include tariffs, quotas, embargos and voluntary export restraints, and Adam Smith s idea of absolute advantage has been developed further to explain international trade. In recent years, protectionism has become closely related to globalization during which the influences of trades spread almost everywhere, so people insist upon the study of social deformities generated by improper policies on international trade and the task of pointing them out with a view to remedy. There are certainly both economic and political purposes of trade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Informative Essay On Television Shows Television shows that I believe are quality programs, breaking bad, being nominated for 58 industry awards but winning a total of 28, the critically acclaimed show always kept its storyline fresh and unpredictable, as well as the characters in the show. Since Bryan Cranston s performance alone was outstanding and thrilling, it kept the viewer at the edge of their seat wanting more. Because people wanted more, the show received high ratings which led to the growth of its popularity that catapulted the show to one of the top shows of the decade. The second program to be quality worthy is Game of Thrones with 248 industry awards from Golden Globes to Emmy awards, the scenery in the show is vibrant, the level of detail of it s beautiful castles,... • 4. Cost Of Extremism Essay Although countries use extreme measures to protect their people s liberties, it takes away other individuals rights. At the 1964 Republican Convention, Barry Goldwater made the following remark: Extremism is the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. It is not ideal to use extremism at any means for defense because it involves violence and danger towards its citizens. Extremism takes away personal liberties by hurting innocent people and restricting them from certain individuals. Extremist approaches have hurt innocent people. There have been armed federal officers showing up at people s homes, taking women and children out of their beds in the middle of the night. From personal experience of being from an undocumented family, people are afraid of their own government. Extremism restricts the liberties of some people by taking their right to be treated with humane respect. Trump wants to further his plans by ending birthright citizenship to children of undocumented parents. Trumps stated that birthright citizenship remains the biggest magnet for illegal immigration. Taking this extreme measure will go against the Fourteenth Amendment and take away liberties from certain group of individuals such as being protected in the United States. Toxic Leadership In Special Forces (SF) Toxic leadership can develop within Special Forces (SF) because of concern for compromising command authority and because the personality profile of a toxic leader can be mistaken as type A personality that thrives in SF. LTG Ulmer fully discusses the Army s concern of compromising command authority and how that can foster toxic leaders. SF is susceptible to toxic leadership for this same reason. A sergeant major will crush a group of teammates who try to solve their toxic leadership issue through collective mutiny. The military is a top down driven organization and chain of command is more important to maintain than removal of one toxic leader. Unfortunately in the weeks following the confrontation he made work very difficult on the four of us. I now realize that he exhibited two classic characteristics of a toxic leader. • 7. Community In S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders S.E. Hinton s realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1950 s. The Outsiders is about a small town where the town is divided into two social classes the Greasers and the Socs. From the Socs perspective the Greasers are the low life junkies who are in gangs even though they re really just in a less fortunate circumstances, and the Socs are the more privileged kids. Ponyboy is the younger of his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. While some believe the strongest theme is divided community, I argue that the strongest theme is loyalty, as supported by S.E. Hinton s use of dialogue, characterization, and conflict. While it is easy to say that the theme of The Outsiders is divided community. For example there are... When the Socs and Greasers have a rumble, (Hinton 130), and all the Greaser gangs teamed up to fight the Socs together.Next, the dialogue is when two or more characters are talking out loud in a story, and their conversation are surrounded by quotation marks. Darry would be a Soc if It wasn t for you and Soda, (Hinton 20). This is when Darry shows loyalty to his brothers and his gang by not becoming a Soc. Dally may be a jerk but he is a Greaser and Greasers stick together, (Hinton15). This quote means that Greasers are like family you stick up for them no matter what. Also it shows how Pony thinks Dally is a jerk, but he considers him family.Secondly, Characterization is when a character in the story or the narrator describes how a character acts or looks like. Pony describes Soda as handsome like the movie star kind. (Hinton 10). This part of characterization shows how soda could have say for example a movie star because most actors have to be handsome, but he stayed with his brothers to help them out. Pony also describes Darry as strong, confident, and too young to be running a family on his own if at all. (Hinton 10). • 8. The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The Subjection of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society and their unequal relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were considered to be inferior to men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be submissive in nature. Deeply influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart Mills own beliefs, The Subjection of Womenwas published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature that would not only challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate for different approaches in light of modern times. Throughout his essay Mill... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, any conclusions on woman s nature should only be taken after women have been given the chance to truly experience equality. As Mill himself maintained: I deny that anyone knows or can know, the nature of the two sexes, as long as they have only been seen in their present relation to one another. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is natural to the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties freely Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society had seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in life, when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to believe that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything else. However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the mentality that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. That they have been taught to submit to the superiority of males and most importantly to always put first the interest of their family and their men before her own, defining with it the way females ... • 9. Enzymes Enzymes in detergent 1) What enzymes are used to make this product? There are essentially six main enzymes involved in detergent, specifically amylases, proteases, lipases, pectinases, cellulases, and mannanases. Each of these enzymes are responsible for targeting stains containing specific macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. 2) What type of reactions do the enzymes catalyze, and why is this of value? Amylases are typically responsible for catalysing the breakdown of starches which can be of value in removing the stains of foods such as cereals, pastas, and gravies. The enzyme hydrolyses the bonds within the starch molecule which decomposes it into dextrins and other oligosaccharides, which are soluble and can easily be removed in the wash. ... The most common sources of amylases are the bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, and Bacillus licheniformis. On the other hand, lipases are currently being sourced from yeast, bacteria, fungus, and from mammals. Biotex is the main source of cellulases, and have been in use since 1987. 4) Have the enzymes been modified for the process? One example of enzyme modification for its use in detergents are cellulases. This enzyme which is used to maintain the quality and brightness of clothing can be chemically modified to have a greater stability when used in an alkaline medium. This is done by exposing the cellulases to certain reagents like malcic anhydride. Another example of a modified enzyme would be the alkaline protease, which replaced the endogenous protease. This enzyme was derived from an alkalophilic strain of bacteria called Bacillus cereus, and is currently being used due to its stability at higher water temperatures. 7) What careers are associated with the industry that produces the product you ... • 10. Becoming An Ally By White Americans Becoming an Ally When white Americans choose to self educate about systemic racism they can become allies in the fight to dismantle racist structures in our society. Systemic racism is a theory that takes a look at how individual, structural, and institutional forms of racism intersect, overlap, and create a deep rooted form of prejudice and discrimination that advantages a cultural group at the expense of others in all institutions of a society economics, political representation, the criminal justice system, employment, and many others. (Luther College 2015). This includes discrimination affecting credit, schooling, justice, residential location, etc. It can be eradicated in the next century, but not without white people acknowledging that it is a real issue that cost lives. It is not the duty of the oppressed to make a liberty sales pitch to their oppressors. However, it is the responsibility of those benefiting from the oppression of others to become educated, listen, and use their privilege to combat injustice. Asian, Latino, Black, and First Nations people respectively do not experience white supremacy in the same ways. Throughout this essay I will focus on the systemic racism targeted at Black people, using the term People of Color , coined by Black Feminists in the 1970s, abbreviated to PoC, to refer to them. The first step to becoming an ally to People of Color is to become educated about the issue to understand that racism did not disappear with the Civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The news of the crash soon starts to fade away, and within the end of the year disappears from the news altogether. Nearly 30 years later, in 1978, Stanton Friedman was prompted to revisit the crash. Stanton Friedman was an unemployed scientist, and a part time UFO lecturer. On February 12, 1978 Friedman interviewed a man over the phone who said he handled the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, but the man, Major Jesse Marcel, couldn t remember the month or even the year of the event. Any good therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not differ nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again (TOJLCMS, 5). For Jerry Lewis, this was a common outlook he had. Jerry has devoted his life to entertaining others and putting a smile on their faces. Although he did suffer numerous struggles, Jerry Lewis has still successfully made it to the top (Lewis, 3). Joseph Levitch was born March 16, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. On July 25th of the year the two made their last nightclub appearance together at the Copacabana, exactly 10 years to the day since they became a team (Shaviro, 1). Jerry then met a female by the name of Patti. Jerry and Patti were married by a justice of peace in Greenwich Connecticut (Levy, 50). Patti was a Catholic but did not wanted to convert to Judaism because she felt secure in her faith since childhood (Levy, 50). In April of 1943, before the authority of a rabbi and the watchful eye of Rae, Danny, and a small brood of aunts and uncles, and cousins, Jerry and his six month pregnant wife stood under a Chuppah to be married once again (Levy, 50). Such unreliability of explicit attitude measures puts the use of self reports in social psychological research into question. Essentially, their study aimed not so much as to demonstrate how prejudice is expressed and manifested but to provide evidence for their own method of measuring attitudes as they are automatically activated. Central to their method is the hypothesis of facilitation: Participants will assign positive or negative valences to presented adjectives at a shorter and response latency (i.e. facilitated) if the adjective s valence is congruent to the evaluation automatically activated by the prime. People are then not asked explicitly asked about their attitudes (which is instead inferred from the pattern of facilitation), thus eliminating their tendency to choose which responses would... However, such measure remains a form of self report liable to subjective biases and rating errors. The researchers also offered no explanation as to whether the experimenter had been trained on what criteria of rating was to be used. This issue may be crucial as such ratings have been used extensively to distinguish between the unobtrusive measure and the MRS, and to attest to the former s ability to predict actual prejudice behavior (i.e. predictive ... By performing experiments based on theory and comparing results to literature values, the objectives of this experiment can be achieved. Both the orifice and the Venturi meters produce a restriction in the flow and measure the pressure drop across the meter. In his novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley uses tomorrow s dystopia and distorts it by creating a utopian visage. By distorting religion and science, Huxley allows ... • 36. You Can Do It Baby By Leslie Garrety Analysis Are Parents Actually Against You? The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett portrays an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it involves their future. The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can be whatever they want to be. The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is giving her opinion on how all children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in reality, they can t. The author of this article makes the point that she believes it causes long term harm on children by telling them this instead of helping them in their future. She states this causes children to consider themselves as a failure when they cannot become whatever they want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel entitled or disappointed in life when they find out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that adults should not be telling this to kids because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and references. There is an editorial cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same idea as Garrett. The cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These two articles use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of research that all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want to be when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete, doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of these things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a bus driver? Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they grow up. These conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children they can be anything they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects. Many children in these studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. If a child has such high hopes that they can be a professional athlete, they will not be happy with what they end up doing as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most children s films are completely heterosexual and the majority of children s films portray male characters of more importance than femalecharacters. Children s film also portray characters of color to be in a lower class, to be of less importance, and are even portrayed as villains. This is an example of the way that being intersectionally marginalized can affect a person s entire life style. The Lion King and Shark Tale both have characters that are portrayed as both black and lower class. In The Lion King, the hyenas, the villains of the movie, are portrayed as black and the actors used for the characters are all black as well. The hyenas live in the Elephant Graveyard, which is clearly portrayed as the inferior location in the film. It s portrayed in a dark, dirty, and poor manner in comparison to Pride Rock, which would be considered the higher class area in the film. The individuals that live in Pride Rock, the higher class area, also discriminate and talk very badly about the Elephant Graveyard and those living there, implying elitism within those who are higher class. Although some people prefer to submit directly to a publisher, that s no longer a reliable method. Most of the bigger publishing houses don t accept unsolicited submissions. Besides that, agents have network connections and insider information that you do not. Submitting to an agent is the recommended course of action. Aside from the query letter itself, the synopsis is the most important part of the initial query. The synopsis explains your plot and entices an agent to read your full manuscript. If you want to avoid your submission being disregarded, there are certain conventions that must be followed; in this report, you will learn about the typical voice, format, organization, and style conventions. The first convention, voice, is intended to ensure the agent requests a full manuscript and subsequently offers to represent your novel. To promote follow through, your synopsis should be written in the same voice as your novel. Your synopsis is the first impression that an agent will receive, so it s important to do your best. If your particular voice is not one they care to represent, they need to learn that before they get to the manuscript. • 40. The Stimulus Of The Words In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non musical meanings. Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life, towards the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the readers feel sympathy towards Emily is when her father s death comes up. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to provide outside observations to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example, Emily s point of view, the readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help understand her situation. The narrator provides foreshadowing, We did not say she was crazy then (Faulkner 153). Juveniles Of The Juvenile Justice System Picture a mother receiving a phone call from the local police station that her ten year old son is being held in a jail cell for stealing school supplies and is facing charges of five years in prison; his mother weeps as she knows it is her fault for not being able to afford them. This has been an issue in the juvenile system since the early 1800s. The juvenile justice system has not been strong enough to find an appropriate sentence for small crimes committed by children who are not living stable lives. In the 1800s, they believed that the death sentence was one of the only ways to teach people that crimeis not permissible, and even if children committed a very low level crime, they could be put to death. Since then, the justice system has gone through phases of accepting the death sentence for children, to banning the death sentence for children under 18, and then banning the death sentence and life without parole for children completely. Many of these children have not had a fair chance in the system and have been punished for crimes that others may have done, so this problem must be fixed. Although most people would say that juveniles should be punished for their crimes, the community should be better involved in helping these children to know that these crimes are not allowed, and if they are committed, the community should be there to help these children learn from their mistakes. • 52. Creativism a Constant Company of Humans Throughout History As Carl Gustav Jung wisely stated, there is a certain fascination with regard to creativity. Creativity expresses itself in many different forms, shapes, sizes, colours and sounds. It is a concept difficult to grasp as it is broad. However most people would think of themselves as being able to judge who and what is actually creative. But what exactly is creativity? Amible (1983) defines creativity as the production of ideas, insights and also products that are both, original and adaptive. Originality in this context refers to novelty of an idea and adaptation to the appropriateness. This is the definition predominantly used in creativity research (Sternberg Lubart 1999; Simonton Damian,2013) and is therefore used in this paper as well. In historical terms, creativity was a constant accompanist of human kind. We had to change the environment, and invent tools according to our needs in order to survive. Thus, creativity is a universal occurrence in all cultures (Simonton Ting, 2010). However, which idea is assumed to be original and appropriate, so considered to be creative, depends strongly on context and time (Njistad et al., 2010). As stated by Nijstad et al. (2010) the work of Vincent van Gough is a good example of a different perception of creativity in different times. When Van Gough died he was a poor man but his works are sold for millions today.
