Saussure s System For Evaluating Linguistics Essay
In Course in General Linguistics , Saussure does two things to develop his system for evaluating
linguistics: he chooses language as his linguistic object and he only incorporates factors into his
model that can be said to be true of all languages over all time. The net result is a very high level
and flexible classification structure, which is more intent on making a developmental framework
for evaluating linguisticsthan necessarily providing tremendous insight into it s more concrete
aspects: rudiments like structure, meaning, morphology, syntax, or phonology.
Others, including Levi Strauss in Structural Anthropology , have used
Saussure s methodology to develop their own models for study in different aspects of human
society. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I feel he still needed to explicitly say it: that despite all the differences between languages, I
have identified these invariants to be true over all time, and I believe this is because of certain
specific commonalities between all humans, particularly the human desire to create and maintain an
effective and convenient system for communicating ideas with one another. Levi Strauss additional
step provides a sense of completeness to the process; that is to say that the last step provides the
why and what while Saussure s method provides the how .
Incorporating the Levi Strauss step gives us a new line of thought to ponder: engineering and
design. Going through the steps: Structural Anthropology first hypothesizes that myths exist to
provide people with anecdotes to help explain the unanswerable questions of their society such as
life versus death or love, etc. Then Levi
Strauss applies Saussure s method, designating a mythological object, in this case the myth itself,
and then determining a set of invariants true to all myths. The most interesting of these invariants is
the use of categories to deconstruct the events of a story into specific event types, which are
common across all myths. And finally, Levi Strauss uses his myth decomposition to draw
conclusions about the myth s moral and, by extension, the society that uses this myth.

Jonathan Swift Satire
In the satirical work of Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift, the author draws attention to many
elements of society that can be reflected in the modern day. With further investigation into the
literature, it is plain to see that Swift, an Irishman, was extremely bitter about the state of the
government and the control it maintained over other regions. From incompetent rulers to a focus
on reason and rationality, we can see that the themes discussed by Swift in the novel have repeated
themselves throughout the historical ages. Throughout the entire story, it is noticeable to the reader
that there is not much in the way of plot surrounding Gulliver, the main character. Swift does not
give textual insight as to Gulliver s inner workings or thoughts. This arguably happens mainly in the
genre of satirebecause the author wants the reader to focus most of their attention on the social or
political that are being referenced to within the writing. The same holds true for this story, as Swift
heavily hints at the incompetency of King George I. One of the main points that Swift draws
attention to is that of the gross incompetency and corruption of the various rulers. For instance, in
Book One, the emperor of Lilliput is egocentric and for the most part, lets his ministers run the
country. This is a distinct hint at the King George I of England, who did not know anything about
politics and allowed parliament to do most of the ruling, holding him simply as a power figure.

Evolution Of The Commerce Clause Analysis

Professor Joseph Margulies
GOVT 3001
Evolution of the Interpretation of the Commerce Clause by the US Supreme Court
From the birth of the Constitution of the United States in 1787 to the Supreme Court cases of the
21st century, the interpretation of the Commerce Clause has been a great source of controversy in
the Supreme Court. Simply put, the Commerce Clause grants power to Congress to regulate
Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes . When
interpreted leniently, the Commerce Clause can give vast powers to Congress to regulate interstate
commerce and any action leading up to it. In Wickard v Filburn, a very lenient interpretation of the
clause gave Congress the power to regulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dagenhart, a father of two boys who would have lost their jobs if this act was upheld, challenged
this act and this case was brought to the Supreme Court to be judged .
The Court ruled in favour of Dagenhart, firstly arguing that the power to regulate interstate
commerce does not include the power to prohibit interstate commerce. The Court also contended
that the act does not aim to regulate transportation among the states, but instead aims to regulate
child labour in mining and manufacturing within the states. Furthermore, the Court argued that
manufacturing and mining are not commerce even if they were to be shipped or used in interstate
commerce. Thus, the act was out of Congress power to regulate interstate commerce .
A dissent by Chief Justice Holmes however argued that the power to regulate included the power
to prohibit whatever Congress saw fit to. He then proceeded to list several historical examples
where Congress was allowed to prohibit the interstate trade of several products. It should be noted
that this case was later overturned by United States v Darby Lumber Company

The Influence Of Religion On Western Society Essay
Kaitlyn Ouellette
November 22, 2016
Impact of Religion Assignment
The Influence of Religion on Western Society Religion has significantly affected the
development of western civilizations and societies. All throughout the history we have covered
in class, religion has played a key and essential role in defining the types of cultures within a society
a belief or faith in a spiritual, also a divine power can add significance and true meaning to many of
the western people s lives. Religion is essentially the force that binds a race or a religious group
together, and comes with a sense of personal identity to a higher figure, God. Three specific and
most commonly known religions of Western Society we have focused on in class have been
Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Ultimately, all three religions have a common belief: the
religious belief that this universe came into existence, and controlled and governed by one single
God. The history of Judaism began in the Bronze Ages in the Middle East when God promised a
leader by the name of Abraham that he would be the father of great people if he did as God told him,
The Lord has said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your father s household to the
land I will show you.

Leaving his very household was one of the trials he faced. Abraham was very concerned once he
grew old, he had no children but a beloved wife. When Abraham was one hundred years old, God
promised Abraham a son named Isaac, who happened to be the next very significant figure in the
Judaism religion. Isaac then married and the third most significant figure in Judaism figure was
then born, Jacob. With the founding of the religion being stated, Judaism was on of the earliest and
significant starts of the Western Society. It was the first to justify religions into laws, found the
basis of freedom and equality, morality, and

Human Behavior And Human Development Essay
While the study of human genes is increasingly improving our understanding of human
development, it is not solely our genetic makeup that determines how we will develop. Humans as a
species share many universal traits, which make it easy to disregard the large influence the
environment plays in development. Throughout the lifespan, the environment presents itself in
many different positions that help determine and shape humandevelopment. By looking at the
influence of the environment and geneticson human development we are able to create a more
holistic view of this process and gain a better understanding of the complexities involved within it.
Through this comprehensive lens, it is easy to see how probabilistic human development offers the
greatest amount of explanation, unlike the predetermined views of genetic influence in the past,
and that environmental influence has an extensive impact on human behavior. Throughout human
history, there have been many shared processes and factors related to development. Evolutionary
psychologyis a branch of psychology that has developed based on the idea that humans have shared
behavioral traits. Demonstrations of these shared human traits can be seen in fixed patterns. These
fixed patterns, such as yawning and attachment, are unlearned behaviors ever present in human
development, allowing us to overestimate the power of genetics on human development as a whole
(Newman Newman, 2016). While fixed patterns do have a largely

Causes Of The American War
American and the Great War
World War I was the first big war of the twentieth century, a defining event in world history. There
were many causes that led to the war, the murdering of Frank Ferdinand was a quick cause of the
war. Imperialism, Nationalism, and Militarism played a huge role overtime.
Nationalism led to competition between European nations, over who had the largest military or
industrial development. Nationalism promoted arrogance, that was only encouraged by the media.
Europe believed their defenses were unstoppable and could win any war. Politicians made the want

Analysis Of The Cane Toad Overpopulation
The article explains that several measures were proposed to reduce the cane toad population, and
provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that it would not be easy to get
rid off the cane toad population and several measures taken, but that were unsuccessful, and refutes
each of the author s reasons.
First, the reading posits that national fence reduced the cane toad population. The professor
opposes this point by saying that cane toad would not be controlled by the fence because through
the rivers and steams some of the toad s eggs would establish their community on other side of the
fences. This proves that the Fence would not be effected method to control the cane toad population.

Compare And Contrast St. Louis
St. Louis is a town in the middle of Missouri located on the Mississippi River. Back in the earth
1900 St. Louis used to be a huge bustling city. The city was very important for trade because of
its location in the Mississippi. So many people lived in St. Louis and traveled from all around the
world to gothere.St. Louis even hosted the 1904 world s fair which was held in its very own
Forest park. St. Louis is kinda like Edinburgh Scotland, Edinburgh has so much history dating back
to the medieval ages and even before that. The cityit self has so much history from the Edinburgh
castle, Arthur s seat, and many more historical site from Mary Queen of Scots bedroom to where
she gave birth to her son king James; even many grave yards with successful writers and
philosophers buried in them. These two cities are a lot a like because of the great history that had
gone before them in the past. These two cities have seen many meaningful historical events happen
in the past.
The culture of these two cities are some what similar yet different at the same time. Everyone is
polite as can be which is sometimes a bad thing because people don t know if they re trying to

The Moral Universe And Moral Tradition
Christianity has been enculturated by the African people to be truly African and truly Christian .
By doing this through various practices it makes the religion profoundly colorful and vivid so that
the Biblical stories and memories come to life through the village and its people. There is a
resonating deep understanding by the community that their moralityis steeped in their traditions and
ancestral worship. The people understand that everything comes from and flows from Godand that
the ancestors (also referred to as the living dead) have a vital part in not just their individual
development but to move further as a community. In African Traditional Religion, the answers to

However, the more bad things you do the more bad karma that is accrued and therefore, the more
likely you are to be reincarnated into something lesser than what you were. Moving forward we can
see that there is an immanent need for a moral universe in any context of the word because of the
way humans needs to categorize things in order to understand them.
In Africa, there is an establishment of both context and content of African morality and ethics.
God is both the Giver of life and the power behind everything there is and when we take a look at
the universe there is a composition of divine and human hierarchy that helps the African people
create perceptions of the universe that the world is a sacred abode of God and their ancestors.
Due to the way the African people view the world, human action can be viewed almost as a
sacred aspect of Christianity, thus making the way they teach their religion a dynamic part of who
they are and who they will be. Making the religion not just about orthodoxy but also about
orthopraxy, as we discussed in class on various occasions. One also has to be born into it and learn
it from childhood through normal socializations.
The community takes their religion seriously which is very different than many western
industrialized countries like The United States of America, where

Sleep And Memory
How is Sleep related to Memory
According to the American Sleep Association, Insomnia is the most common specific sleep
disorder, with short term issues reported by about 30% of adults and chronic insomnia by 10%. (
American Sleep Association, 2018, P.1) Scientists have proven that sleep is directly related to
memory. Sleep has effects on insomnia, discrimination skills, memory retention, and more.
Sleep is related to memory because of the effects that it has on insomnia. It has been suggested that
healthy sleep facilitates the consolidation of newly acquired memories and underlying brain
plasticity. (Christoph Nissen, 2011, p.1). When you receive enough hours of sleep, it will help

Analysis Of Corporate Governance Disclosure Practices Of...
Research Problem Ever since India opened up its economy to privatization, liberalization and
globalization there has been rapid institutionalization of the corporate sector and private enterprise.
This has quickened the pace of economic growth since 1992. In this changed scenario, the quality
of Corporate Disclosures has been an important factor not only for survival of the companies but
also for influencing the company s ability to raise money from capital market. In recent times,
corporate governance has attracted much attention both in academic literature and press media.
Corporate Governance is related to effective, transparent and accountable administration of affairs
of an institution by its management, while protecting the interest of its stakeholders comprising of
the shareholders, creditors, regulators and the public at large. But the implementation of
Corporate Governance principles is not an easy task. It is a very wide subject and needs a lot of
discussion. The purpose of this study is to analysis corporate governance disclosures practices of
listed Companies. As a medium for communicating information, annual reports generally include
two types of disclosures mandatory and voluntary disclosures. In India, mandatory disclosures are
required as per the provisions of Companies Act 2013(previously according to CA, 1956), and its
various sister laws. Voluntary disclosures are those which are voluntarily disclosed by companies
without any compulsion from any law.

I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died
Emily Dickinson was fascinated by death and immortality; in her poem I Heard a Fly Buzz When
I Died she reveals her insight on a shared but unknown experience. A speaker, who is describing
his or her death from beyond the grave, narrates the poem, which can be interpreted with either
heavily Christian in its symbolism, or as the literal description of the dying experience. Dickinson
uses the poetryelements of symbolism, imagery and point of view to give us an ironic poem, about
dying and the afterlife, which leaves the reader unsure of what s on the other side of death. There is
a disagreement in the literary world over the meaning of the fly, its symbolism and relationship
to the speaker in the poem (Ruby 139). Dickinson might have used the fly in order to showcase
that the dying speaker was still aware of the physical world but his or her senses were fading as
the body surrenders to death With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Line 13). The fly could also
have been used as an ironic symbol of death, decay, and human mortality. Since the fly is a
creature that feeds and lays its eggs in dead flesh. Some critics think that the fly has a more sinister
and dark meaning. They believe that the fly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract Electricity is not just an option for passenger cars. Hybrid and all electric technologies
are moving into delivery trucks, garbage trucks, and tractor trailers, as well as into other more out
of sight vehicles, all of which literally help keep our economy moving. For these medium and
heavy duty trucks, the goals of electrification are the same as with cars: reducing pollution, oil
consumption (in trucks, usually diesel fuel), and fuel costs. Expanding the use of electrification
technologies is a key strategy for doubling the fuel efficiency of trucks and for helping to cut our
nation s projected oil consumption in half over the next 20 years. In
2010, freight hauling trucks consumed 2.3 million barrels of oil per day more than we currently
import from the Persian Gulf and emitted 348 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Description Of An Assembly Line Simulation Within The...
Witness is a software package which allows for simulations of manufacturing processes to be
created and in turn allows the user to gain a greater understanding of the aforementioned process.
Witness is useful when being utilized to simulate a process with a desired outcome in mind
therefor allowing a user to identify any issues that arise during the manufacturing process. The
software package essentially allows issues in a manufacturing process to be addressed and solved
before significant resources are spent developing a non viable process. Witness can save
manufacturing companies both time and resources by minimalizing the quantity of issues faced in
developing a new process.
This report will detail the construction of an assembly line simulation within the Witness software
package. The simulation will have the following attributes:
Three categories of pan will be produced on an assembly line (type A, type B and type C). These
pans will be available in a pre determined variety of colours (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Magenta).
Following the pressing, colouring, coating and assembly processes the pans will be organized and
arranged according to colour.
The original model will be improved upon in an attempt to address a quality problem (reject
product). The production line will be edited in order to pack the pans in sets of three, one of each
size (type A, type B, type C). The colours are required in the following proportions:

Hicok And Terrell Summary
An important aspect about the readings from Hicok (2000) and Terrell (1999) is that the two of
them were focusing on minority students, who first language is not English. Information about the
level of reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of
population that the researchers were working on.
One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning
of ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in
three different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school
have its school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper.
Hicok (2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the
author was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the
students. The author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and
scores.
Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students.
First, both studies have been done at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools District (Hicok, 2000;
Terrell, 1999). By knowing the school district, it will be easy ... Show more content on

Taking a Look at Epidural Analgesia
Epidural analgesia is considered the most effective pain relief method during labour (Tamagawa
Weaver, 2012). It consists of the introduction of a local anaesthetic into the epidural space using a
needle through the lumbar intervertebral space, usually between lumbar vertebrae 3 and 4 or 2 and
3 (Peate Hamilton, 2014). The anaesthetic inhibits nerve conduction by blocking sodium channels
in nerve membranes, which in turn prevents the transmission of nerve impulses along these fibres.
Therefore, the painful stimuli transmitted from the contracting uterus and birth canal is inhibited
without consciousness impairment (Anim Somuah, Smyth and Jones, 2011).
Firstly introduced in 1898, epidural analgesic was used for operative deliveries. The introduction
of lignocaine in 1948 increased its popularity due to its faster onset and longer duration of action
in contrast to its predecessor, cocaine (Moir, 1986). Epidurals became more widely available in
the 1970s when a decline in home births occurred and active management of labour was
introduced (Odibo, 2007). Currently, the rapid increase of epidural procedure rates were
highlighted by the NHS Information Centre (NHSIC) (2011) where 25% of women in England
who had spontaneous and induced onset of labour received epidural analgesia during labour
between 2010 and 2011.
There are substantial benefits to both mother and baby in the provision of epidural analgesia for
labour including pain relief, during prolonged labour,

London... ( Oliver Twist .) Much of the first part of Oliver Twist challenges the organizations of
charity run by the church and the government in Dickens s time. ( SparkNote on Oliver
Twist. ) These quotes explain a little of what Oliver Twist is about and how Charles Dickens
explains what he went through living during the time of the Industrial Revolution. The American
Notes is a travelogue of Charles Dickens trip to North America from
January to June in 1842. Whilst there he acted as a critical observer of North American society,
almost as if returning a status report on their progress. (American Notes. ) the air was so clear, the
houses were so bright and gay. [...] The city is a beautiful one, and cannot fail, I should imagine, to
impress all strangers very favourably. ( American Notes. )
These quotes show the way Dickens went around North America and as if he was a tourist, he
jotted down everything he did and saw and felt. He also says in the second quote how he predicts
people are going to be interested in him, this shows he was feeling pretty confident where he

Causes Of Global Warming In North America
Pollution and Global Warming in North America Today carbon emissions are the highest they
have been in the world since the industrial revolution and if we don t change, we could destroy
whole ecosystems. According to recent studies the united states is the leading producer of
carbon emissions in the world. We need to address the issue and start a cause for change before
everything is damaged. Take the gulf oil spill as an example,it destroyed a large portion of a
ecosystem and it harmed or killed a lot of fish and bird in that area. Not only that but it
contributes to a long recovery process which can also be very expensive. The accident was caused

An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to...
An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to Anger Management
Anger is a basic human emotion that transcends cultural boundaries. However, despite its
universality, an exact definition agreed upon by all people is lacking (Norcross Kobayashi, 1999).
Physiologically, brain centers in the amygdala are connected to anger processing. Because the
information processing that takes place in this brain structure is primitive, anger can be triggered
inappropriately and without the individual s knowledge of the cause. In psychodynamic terms, past
events and experiences suppressed in the unconscious can be the source of generated anger. In
cognitive behavioral terms, anger is described as an interaction of behavior, cognition, and ... Show

However, by exploring the various characteristics of the different schools of psychotherapy,
similarities and compatibilities become apparent, which can lead to a more integrative and eclectic
approach to anger management.
The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach can be traced to Sigmund Freud in the late 19th century and the early
part of the 20th century. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions
associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the
development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea
of the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden.
Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense
mechanisms lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious.
Psychodynamic techniques try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the
underlying conflict (Phares and Trull, 2001). Among the emphases of psychodynamic therapy are a
focus on the evocation and expression of emotion to uncover the patient s unconscious issues, the
importance of emotional insight in which the patient can experience and comfortably understand
his emotion, a concentration on a

The Concepts Of Contractionism By John Rawls And Political...
Abstract art steps back from reality to witness a world separate from the human experience. This
departure allows people to project their own meaning onto the piece. They all come from varying
backgrounds so their understandings of the art are all radically different. John Rawls attempts to
apply the same concepts of abstractionism into political philosophyto arrive at a set universal rules
and values. However, Rawls ultimately fails, giving rise to an either too limited or too vague
theory of justice. Rawls is not clear on how to access morality, who his theory applies to, and
whether or not his theory functions in reality.
Rawls acts to expand on the social contract making it more applicable to the needs of the least
advantaged. One of political philosophy s goals is for the government to find some underlying
basis of philosophical and moral agreement such that the citizens agree on its authority . He
postulates the current system of government, utilitarianism, is deeply flawed, because it allows for
the continued suffering of the most vulnerable in society as long as the majority benefits . Instead
Rawls proposes the veil of ignorance take its place. In this thought experiment, men are in the
original position, in which the parties do not know their conceptions of the good or their special
psychological propensities . He makes two general assumptions about human nature people are
inherently self interested and they are risk adverse. Thus, behind the veil, a

The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility
Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many
philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To
answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and
deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally
responsible means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in
accordance with one s moral obligations. People could argue that they have free willor not.
According to general knowledge of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things
on ones own discretion. Thus, in this paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for
their actions. I will prove this by using the concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the
sense that for humans to be morally responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of
his or her decision. In the case of Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has
minimal effect or no effect on moral responsibility.
Free will
Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will
is a choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher,
when we call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it.
(Edward). One might argue that people act in certain ways because they have been drugged or

The Background Of 2007-2008 Financial Crisis
Chapter 2. Background
2.1 Introduction
This chapter is about the background of 2007 2008 financial crisis. The 2007 2008 financial crisis
has a huge impact on US banking system and how the banks operate and how they are regulated
after the financial turmoil. This financial crisis started with difficulty of rolling over asset backed
commercial papers in the summer of 2007 due to uncertainty on the liquidity of mortgage backed
securities and questions about the soundness of banks and non bank financial institutes when interest
rate continued to go up at a faster pace since 2004. In March 2008 the second wave of liquidity
loss occurred after US government decided to bailout Bear Stearns and some commercial banks,
then other financial institutions took it as a warning of financial difficulty of their peers. In the
meantime banks started hoarding cash and reserve instead of lending out to fellow banks and
corporations. The third wave of credit crunch which eventually brought down US financial system
and spread over the globe was Lehman Brother s bankruptcy in August 2008. Many major
commercial banks in US held structured products and commercial papers of Lehman Brother, as a
result, they suffered a great loss as Lehman Brother went into insolvency. This panic of bank
insolvency caused loss of liquidity in both commercial paper market and inter bank market. Still
banks were reluctant to turn to US government or Federal Reserve as this kind of action might
indicate delicacy of

Software And Application Lifecycle Management
Software is the base necessity in a system as it acts as a guide between the user and the system.
Programmers design different kinds of software by writing a complete set of written instructions
that enables the system to obtain the request instructed by the user. However, with the increase of
technological improvements, businesses are now looking at software development organizations to
design cost effective, high quality, and adaptive applications to meet business objectives. Software
businesses can run into a variety of issues when creating, changing, or updating the software that

There are numerous companies such as Hewlett Packard (HP), IBM, and Atlassin that have created
their own ALM service to help software companies meet there business objectives.
On the contrary, software companies can have trouble selecting a provider that designs their own
ALM software. It is important that software companies need to keep in mind that some vendors
do not offer an all in one product. Most vendors create a suite of tools to offer in there ALM
software. In fact, a software company should look for tools that have strong functionality in the
components that are least mature within the organization, and when there are tools that are already
in use, look for opportunities to integrate with those tools (Owen, G., 2015). The best provider that
a software company should select if they want to use ALM software in their organization is
Microsoft.
Microsoft s ALM product offers a broad suite of functionality available either on premises or in the
cloud (Wilson, N., Duggan, J., Murphy, T., Sobejana, M., Herschmann, J. 2015, p.5). Software
companies that use Microsoft s ALM product will receive a variety of features and tools to
demonstrate the products they create are trustworthy and meet all of the software components in
their application lifecycle. For instance, with release management in Visual Studio you can

Pierre Simon Laplace s Theory Of Determinism
Pierre Simon Laplace was a famous scientist born on March 23, 1749, in Normandy, France. He
went through schooling and later enrolled at Caen University at the age of sixteen to study
theology. His father had an expectation for him to have a career in the church, in those times
when people attended the school Laplace attended, their usual job destinations were the church or
army. Laplace went into neither of those, even those he was studying theology. While at the
school he discovered his love for mathematics and discovered he had a talent in that field.
Laplace made numerous contributions through his work. Besides his work on mathematical
astronomy, he also studied planetary orbits. Laplace is famous for his discovery of what is
famously known as Laplace s Demon, which is not an actual demon. Laplace s Demon was first
known as Laplace s Intellect. His thought experiment was first discovered by him in 1814, which
made it the first published work of determinism. Laplace s Demon, is basically the idea of
determinism. His other works, although should still not go unnoticed, he had a great influence on
the progress of the mathematical theory of mechanics, also the Laplace Operator in potential theory,
and the Laplace Transform in the study of differential equations. Laplace believed that with his
discovery, you could measure an atoms velocity and location. Basically, what it means for his
experiment is that if you can calculate those things, you can predict all future

The Consultative Sales Process Guide
Essay Question # 2:
The consultative sales process guide is a process used to think of a sales presentation to create
value added to the product or service. This includes need discovery, selection of the solution, need
satisfaction through informing, persuading and reminding, and servicing the sale. According to
Manning, need discovery aids salespeople in creating value, meet the needs of customers, and
execute the firms commitment by reviewing behaviors of successful salespeople (230). Need
discovery is a problem solving tool that avoids customer complaints and promotes return customers.
Need discovery is the first step in the sales presentation by asking client questions and surveying
potential customers to see if they are the right fit for the company, and the time it takes to establish
this entirely depends on the situation (Manning 230, 2012). Need discovery adds value, by
beginning with preparation on behalf of the salesperson where they qualify the prospect (Manning
231, 2012). After consideration, salespeople start up a two way conversation with the potential
client, helping clients realize their problems that they did not know they had before.
The next step is the selection of the solution, where salespeople customize solutions based on a
client s particular problem, because no two problems are the same. In this step, salespeople throw
out suggestions and recommendations to the client, where they will satisfy the customer, therefore
salespeople must be a

The Monarch Era Of Britain
Since confederation in 1867, more than 17 million immigrants have landed in Canada.
Immigration policy back then was very different from now, of course. But all of them have one
thing in common. In order for them to become Canadian citizen they must have swear an oath to
Queen. I believe it is time for a change in the system as Canadais completely different from back
then. Using Canada itself as the figure is more appropriate than the Queen, fit the constitution
better, and supported by our society structure. New citizen should swear a pledge to Canada,
instead of an oath to Queen.
In our current system, potential citizens are required to swear an oath to the Queen under the
Oaths of Allegiance Act, rewritten in 1985, required in the Citizenship Act. This law roots back
to the monarch era of the Great Empire of Britain, specifically 1689 by King William II and III
and Queen Mary II. Its purpose was to secure the supremacy of the reigning monarch and in its
colony, including Canada. It found its way into our modern law system created in the
confederation of Canada in 1867. The oath had stayed the same for 150 years.
From a British colony to known for its multiculturalism and diversity with 20% of immigrants
representing its total population. Yet, Canadian immigrants still had to bow and oath to the foreign

Eden Robinson Belonging

A Comparative Analysis of Eden Robinson s Traplines and Joseph Boyden s The OrendaHumans
tend to have the instinctive desire to belong and be a significant member of something greater than
themselves. This sense of belonging is usually provided by family; but what happens when this
vital component of an individual s development is flawed? The main characters in Traplines by
Eden Robinson and The Orenda by Joseph Boyden suffer from this exact predicament. Not only do
Will and Snow Falls lack a stable family structure, but the feeling of becoming increasingly
restrained within themselves takes a toll on their perception of authentic identity. Even though

In Traplines, the most distinct form of Will s confinement lies in his routine lifestyle that
involves abuse and addiction. An example of this is shown when the text states, On Christmas
Eve ... Mom and Dad will go to a lot of parties and get really drunk. Eric will go to a lot of parties
and get really stoned. Maybe this year I will too (Robinson 458). The certainty behind his
prediction suggests that he has been trapped in a life of such conduct for a prolonged period of
time and that he might as well concede to the destructive path it provides. If the story is viewed
through a lens in which Will is of Native descent, the feeling of being restricted within one s self
does not only have an impact of his sense of self identity, but on other people s perception of him
as well. The text states, When he [Mr. Smythe] reached over, I put my hands up and covered my
face. He stopped, then took the phone out of my hands. It s okay, he said. I won t hurt you. It s
okay (Robinson 461), which illustrates how his constraint to an abusive atmosphere is able to strain
his relationships with those that he trusts. Will also finds himself to be confined in his inability to
speak up for himself, as displayed through his altercations with Eric and when Mr. Smythe
incorrectly assumes that more than one member of his family contributes to his abuse. Although
these are two different circumstances, Will s inaction to both is most likely out of fear for what
could result from retaliation. As for The Orenda, it is evident that Snow Falls often feels trapped
within the past, most of which encompasses traumatic experiences. Even in her death, her deceased
family is the first thing that comes to her mind, as presented when the text states, I remember my
mother now, my brother, drumming their legs into the other world

Description/How Segmented
Market Segmentation
Market segmentation is a strategy that involves breaking down a business s current target market
into smaller subsets in order to establish a more defined set of market categories. It is important to
first look at the tools available to assist with segmenting the market prior to beginning your
segmentation. These tools include the following:
Characteristics of Buyers The typical consumer of precision machined parts includes distributors,
original equipment manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
Product Use For Falmer, their consumers typically purchase items in one of four categories
including heavy truck and truck related parts, high performance automobile parts, hydraulic hose
assemblies and railcar hardware. There are some customers that supply detailed drawings that fall
outside of these main categories that Falmer will produce the parts for as long as their equipment
has the capabilities to do so.
Buyers Needs/Preferences The consumers in the precision machined parts industry typically look
for a supplier that can provide a high quality item to the required specification at a low cost and
short lead time. They also prefer to have a supplier that keeps them up to date on if any issues
arise, provide good customer service, and are willing to replace defective items if they are found.

Another reason why jobs are decreasing is because of the advantage that the technology have
over us, the more advance the technology, the less workers they need. For example, in Factories
everything was mostly done and created by citizens of a nation, since technology is so advance,
factories now have more of automation system which means everything is done automatically,
this has caused decrease in jobs now that automation is very popular. This also can affect the
household because some families will be in financial crises due to unemployment. They are and
will be higher rates of divorces and family instability. Globalization has a huge and very stressful
impact on companies and business. Globalization has made a competitive environment for them.
The competition is due to different type of reasons but mainly due to cost and price and
technology adaptation. When company and businesses competition increase, it makes other
companies or businesses lower their prices. Also, one effect of globalization is expanding the
businesses. Companies, businesses and customers always want to have quick services and in a

Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement
Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive,
and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no
surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by
Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society
with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the
next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having
any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and
proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social
behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical
procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society
today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st
century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually
focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Although
these two approaches (past and present) to the eugenics movement are conducted in different ways,
the motivations behind them are theoretically similar. In this paper, I will be summarizing the

How To Evaluate Expedition Strategy To Sicily
Evaluation of Expedition Strategy to Sicily
According to the Thucydides book edited by Robert B. Strassler, the Peloponnesian War was
conducted between 431 401 BC among Athenians and Spartans ancient Greece states cities with
their respective alliance. Main objective of the war was struggle for empire domination, and fear of
being dominating. The Athenian and Spartans were the main rival powers. The Athenians were
dominant in sea power, in the other hand, Spartans were strong in land power. As the result of
limitation in either power, that created misbalance on military capability. Both cities tried to have
symmetric military capability by forming alliance. The Athenians national interest was expanding
their empire by supporting their allies from Sparta lead alliance country. Due to this reason, the
Athenian deployed their forces to Sicily two times. The first was in 427 BC, the forces was
commanded by Leaches and Euphiletus because of the war between Syracusans and Leontines. The
second was the final expeditions campaign to Sicily lead by three generals, ... Show more content

Of those nineteen ten refused to testify which then caused them to be referred to as the
Hollywood Ten . These ten were indicted for contempt of congress and sentenced to brief
imprisonment according to www.britannica.com. The Hollywood ten motion picture producers,
directors and screenwriters, were Alvah Bessie, Herbert Biberman, Lester Cole, Edward Dmytryk,
Ring Lander Jr., John Howard Lawson, Albert Maltz, Samuel Ornitz, Adrian Scott and Dalton
Trumbo. They were subsequently found in contempt of Congress and were given sentences of six
months to one year. The blacklist was an underlying fear of Communism and the influence it had
on society. Furthermore it revealed the distrust of Hollywood and the Jews who the committee
believed owned and operated the movie business. The Blacklist prevented them from ever having
employment in Hollywood, but some chose to write under pseudonyms. As Robert Rich Dalton
Trumbo won an Academy Award for best screenplay for the 1956 movie the Brave One. Over

The Strategies And Weaknesses For The Star Cruises
The weakness for the star cruises is limited routes. They only offers some outbound destination like
Australia, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand,
Taiwan and also Vietnam. Star cruises should take action to expand their routes so customer got the
variety choice to choose the destination. Not only that, they should also come out with marketing
strategy to attract customers to purchase it such as promotion packages, advertising throughout
social media and more. In term of expand the routes, this is more benefit for the star cruises
because they increase their revenue but the expenses still remain the same so actually they gain
more profit. If star cruises increase the routes, the more people traveling with so when they

money to enjoy and relax for holidays in a cruise. European also willing to spend their money

to be improving their target market but not only mainly in Asia. They should put a lot of effort to

Carrier Corporation Case Study Analysis
Intro During the 1990 s the Carrier Corporation was working on a highly innovative new global
chiller under 300 kW, called Aquasnap. The new design would integrate a Hydronic Kit inside
the chiller, all previous versions required installation of the kit outside the chiller. While the new
design would cost less, require less installation time, and save floor space, it did raise some
concerns. Carrier was becoming deeply invested in the design and was worried if the world was
ready for such an innovative product. The following sections answer some of the issues; what
should Thierry Jomard s (lead engineer) decision be, should the hydronic kit be integrated and how
does Carrier address future environmental regulations, what are the... Show more content on

The only way Carrier could compete was by designing a product with low labor costs (Gibbons,
and Ramdas) (i.e. the aquasnap). The implementation of the integrated aquasnap, will increase at
a slightly greater rate each year, and will allow Carrier to earn about $8.6 million dollars more in
2002 alone, and $22.5 million more from 1997 to 2002. Also mass production will lower the
overall cost of manufacturing due to various factors (i.e. cost of materials, number of parts,
number of operations, assembly time, assembly cost, selling price, and overall price will all be
reduced). The share projections are a steady 14% until 1998. If the delay bleeds into 1999 the
overall loss on that entire year would be $6.8 million, but the overall market share would still
increase $15.7 million through 2002. Scenarios similar to Aquasnap can be found in gaming
consoles. The integration of the DVD to the PS2 game console allowed Sony to set itself apart
from Nintendo, making it the highest selling game console ever. The PS2 saved the customer
space, time, and money by not having to buy a dvd player. Even though the PS2 was $100 more
than the Nintendo N64, it dominated the market because of simplicity and convenience (Playstation
website). Aquasnap also creates simplicity and convenience for the customer but is cheaper than the
competitor; therefore similar market dominance can be expected. The chart on the right shows the
sales of the N64 and the above chart shows the

(AASL, 2006) The other set of standards that guide the scope for the information literacy program
here in Utah are the Utah State Core Standards for the Library Media (grades 6 12). While there
are is some overlap between these two sets of standards they work together comprehensively to
cover all areas of information literacy. These standards are divided up into 3 clusters. The Utah
State Standards were designed to be taught through integration with other subject and content areas.
The three clusters include: Literacy: Reading Engagement
Literacy: Research and Information
Literacy: Media Engagement
Cluster one, reading engagement, focuses largely on promoting reading and creating lifelong
readers who read for enjoyment as well as out of need. It also includes using strategies to be able
to comprehend both recreational reading as well as informational texts. This cluster does a good
job of filling some of holes that appear in the AASL standards. The information and research strand
hones in on defining an information problem and identifying the information need. Some of the
indicators in this standard show that a learner can narrow or broaden an information search as well
as seek clarification from teachers and other resources. The third cluster, research and information
includes being able to identify, evaluate, and select sources. The indicators in this

Importance of Physical Education
Fitness
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many
lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to
burn calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and
improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health
conditions in check.
It Builds Self Esteem
Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball, martial arts and running
just to name a few are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It s
probably because of the self discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in
students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students
allowing them to make choices to which sport areas they want to get involved in.
Life Lessons
By participating in various sports, a student gets to learn so many things about life. A student wins
some games and loses some; this makes him understand that winning and losing are a part of life
and should be accepted with grace. When a student participates in team games, he learns that co
operating with others is very important if goals are to be achieved. Likewise, sports can teach so
many life lessons to students and thus, help

Abercrombie And Fitch Paper
Advertising can also go wrong in the fashion industry. As noted by Aerens (2005), the Abercrombie
and Fitch fashion brand became the most controversial advertiser when it combined a father and
son relationship in their advertising imagery in the early 1990s. Sadly, this was socially
misinterpreted by the public as a portrayal of homosexuality. There was an era (i.e. in the 1980s)
when advertisers thought that camp (gay, homosexual) images in advertisingwere damaging to male
fashion; in that males could not relate to each other in such a manner and they were threatened by
homosexual imagery something more conservative would have been more successful (Mort,
1996, pp. 72, 73; Elliott and Elliott, 2005, p. 5). The same type of social study of fashion
advertising of feminised males and the reposes of male (i.e. heterosexual) consumers was
undertaken in the late 1990s by Kimmel and Tissier Desbordes (1999) and the conclusion was
similar.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after the short period (i.e. a decade) of a fall from grace and accusations of promoting
soft core pornography, the Abercrombie and Fitch brand turned this controversy around by toning
down nudity by utilising artistic images of models wearing Abercrombie and Fitch clothing.
Hence, controversy in advertising placed fashion brands in the public eye (for better or for worse;
whether it promotes or harms the brands). But, since that period, advertising has become more well
behaved (Lockwood, Martens and McCarthy,

Summary Of Hugo Chavez s The Bolivarian Republic Of Venezuela
Hugo Chavez called his government The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. After me! That is
hilarious, because I utterly disagree with his beliefs, his government, and what he is trying to do.
I was the liberator of South America, I wanted social justice, I wanted everyone, every class, to be
equal and have equal opportunities. Chavez shares none of these ideals. He attempts to help the
poor, but in reality he hurts them.
For example, Chavez imposed price controls on basic necessities, to help the lower class afford
food, but this action had an adverse effect. Because manufacturers couldn t make a profit, they
stopped selling their goods, and food shortages became rampant! In short, even though Chavez tries
to help the lower class, he ends up hurting them, against my beliefs, because I believe in helping the
entire population.
As these food shortages go on, one of the saddest ramifications of it is malnutrition in children.
Children are starving to death as their parents look on, because they cannot afford food. And what
is the government doing? Nothing! President NicolГЎs Maduro has acknowledged that people are
hungry in Venezuela, but he has refused to accept international aid (Kohut Herrera). That is not
just. A leader should do what is right for his people, not what is good for his ego! Maduro s
country is starving, and he can t fix it, yet he refuses help because he blames other countries for his
problems.
I think Maduro is a horrible leader, just because he is not

Birth Control Prescriptions
Eliminating the prescription for Birth Control provides an increased access for everyone,
encourages safe sex, reduces the effect of unwanted pregnancy and helps the economy. Birth
control is a method of medication that prevents pregnancy for women. The birth control pill has
been around for about 50 years and in 1916 a woman by the name of Margaret Sanger opened the
very first birth controlclinic in the United States and later served a 30 day sentence for it being
labeled as an unlawful nuisance (Brief History of Thompson 2). In the late 1930s, a judge put a
federal ban on birth control. In 1950, Margaret Sanger created the pill. Birth Control is a good
way for encouraging safe sex because it reminds young people that all of society can... Show more

On average taxpayers, pay $11 million for prescription meds. If birth control was non
prescription it would allow people who do not have much of money to easily purchase. Birth
Control and other forms of contraceptives can cost from $6 to $112 every month. With the health
insurance can cost from anywhere of $5 to $40 (pack for one month) and generic brands can be
from anywhere to $5 to $15 and although it is covered by the insurance companies many teenagers
and adults cannot afford it putting a substantial amount on their lives and the choice to have sex or
not. The other issue is that teens that do not want their parents to know they are sexually active
need parents permission to get a prescription. Without that health insurance, great deals of women
find that birth control can become high priced. Between 2008 2009, a bankruptcy in the United
States showed that a high profile of unemployment and fiscal frustration were linked to family
planning agreements and the contraceptive use. In September 2009, a survey went around and
collected that because of the monetary task almost half of the women that were surveyed wanted
to hold off on the pregnancies or restrain the number of kids they want. About five years after the
recession ended the number of births in the United States rose for the first time in almost a decade

COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF MEDICAL LABORATORY TESTS
Introduction:Management in clinical diagnostic fields are frequently involved in cost analysis of
new procedures due to the constantly changing science and technology. Also due to the health care
organization especially the diagnostic division being tightly regulated by accreditation and
regulatory bodies bringing a new procedure in house requires in depth analysis prior to an any
decision being taken.
Cost Object:In a clinical laboratory in a small community hospital we currently refer specimens for

we would need to offer a total PSA and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same can be done for processing costs. Pricing information for the consumables used is
available from the utilization reports generated monthly by the finance department.
When calculating reagents costs, the cost of the reagent actually used to run a single test is easy to
calculate based on the known volume of reagent used and the cost per volume. These numbers are
available from information generated by vendors. The cost of calibrators and controls is also
available, but the actual cost of these per test can be determined by using the following
formula:Cost of total amount usedTotal number of tests performed (using a particular calibration

factor and not evaluated directly.

A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Essay
A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Juliette Beck s speech, Reclaiming Just and Sustainable
Communities in the Age of Corporate Globalization neither adequately described the problems of
globalization as it is currently structured, nor did it provide any answers to the problems with it,
either the real problems that actually exist (labor and environmental exploitation) or the problems
that Beck purported (large corporations). Primarily, Beck s speechwas flawed in that it was
incoherent and empirical incorrect. For instance 1) it purported the idea that globalization was not
inevitable , 2) it called upon the myth of small is beautiful , confusing the real problem with
globalization (Capitaliststructure) with a false problem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Localism, by its nature, cannot address problems that exist beyond local levels. Globalization, it
should be obvious, is one of these. Too bad for us on the left certain supposedly left political
analysts of global activity cannot pick up this basic truth.
Maybe part of the reason one analyst in particular is unable to realize the futility of localism is
that she has succumbed to the false romantic ideology that small is beautiful . Much in the same
way as libertarians and conservative, Beck beat on the drum of Localism, relating to the
audience the horrors of such companies as Wal Mart, Nike, and Starbucks. She advised us not to
shop at these as they (in the case of Wal Mart) drive out mom and pop stores in local
communities. As an alternative, we should shop at locally own stores, and buy fair trade coffee.
One should not try to persuade others into action on the basis of one s own guilt, for it is futile
if one seeks structurally change. But this is what Beck does, by personalizing the trauma (your
local store vs. big nasty corporate stores), and it is not effective. Instead of focusing on the
problems of one order of Capitalism (localism) vs. a different order of Capitalism (big business),
one should realizes that it is Capitalism itself that is the impetus of the problem, and that the
Capitalist exploitation of the earth, labor, and

Summary Of The Film She ` S Beautiful When She s Angry
She s Beautiful When She s Angry, directed and produced by Mary Dore, is a film that documents
the struggles that women within the United States endure concerning the historical lack of women
s rights. Prior to the Women s Rights Movement in the 1960 s and 1970 s, a number of stereotypes
about women existed within society that limited both their personal and professional progression.
She s Beautiful When She s Angry a modern adaptation and documentary of this period of
emotional strife pays tribute to the women who courageously fought in order to ensure that gender
discrimination became an issue of America s past. As a documentary filmthat succeeds in taking its
audience down memory lane and establishing an activist approach to cinematically... Show more

For example, at the height of the Women s Rights Movement, women were very rarely seen
within the sector of higher education; but today, however, women are more prevalent in higher
education than at any other point in recent memory. Not only has higher education become more
of an integral norm for women, but the increasing prominence of women within higher education
is reflective of a fundamental societal shift women are no longer being forced to stay within the
confines of their home, but are now able to focus on their education as well as their increasing
job opportunities. Additionally, women have also become more prominent within the political
realm both in terms of running for office and having the right to vote as well as the higher tiers
of corporate America; which illustrates that, as time goes on, they are becoming increasingly
more powerful and are being afforded a myriad of desirable positions and benefits that used to
only be available for men. With the indisputable progression of women in mind, it becomes
challenging to comprehend how a film like She s Beautiful When She s Angry can capitalize on its
foundation of activism within the current societal climate. Although there are still and may always
be various opinions regarding women s rights, it is clear that, since the Women s Rights Movement,
women have been presented with countless opportunities that they would not have been able to
take advantage of approximately 50 years ago. As a result, a film like She s Beautiful When She s
Angry almost seems redundant, if not somewhat

  • 2. Saussure s System For Evaluating Linguistics Essay In Course in General Linguistics , Saussure does two things to develop his system for evaluating linguistics: he chooses language as his linguistic object and he only incorporates factors into his model that can be said to be true of all languages over all time. The net result is a very high level and flexible classification structure, which is more intent on making a developmental framework for evaluating linguisticsthan necessarily providing tremendous insight into it s more concrete aspects: rudiments like structure, meaning, morphology, syntax, or phonology. Others, including Levi Strauss in Structural Anthropology , have used Saussure s methodology to develop their own models for study in different aspects of human society. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But I feel he still needed to explicitly say it: that despite all the differences between languages, I have identified these invariants to be true over all time, and I believe this is because of certain specific commonalities between all humans, particularly the human desire to create and maintain an effective and convenient system for communicating ideas with one another. Levi Strauss additional step provides a sense of completeness to the process; that is to say that the last step provides the why and what while Saussure s method provides the how . Incorporating the Levi Strauss step gives us a new line of thought to ponder: engineering and design. Going through the steps: Structural Anthropology first hypothesizes that myths exist to provide people with anecdotes to help explain the unanswerable questions of their society such as life versus death or love, etc. Then Levi Strauss applies Saussure s method, designating a mythological object, in this case the myth itself, and then determining a set of invariants true to all myths. The most interesting of these invariants is the use of categories to deconstruct the events of a story into specific event types, which are common across all myths. And finally, Levi Strauss uses his myth decomposition to draw conclusions about the myth s moral and, by extension, the society that uses this myth. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jonathan Swift Satire In the satirical work of Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift, the author draws attention to many elements of society that can be reflected in the modern day. With further investigation into the literature, it is plain to see that Swift, an Irishman, was extremely bitter about the state of the government and the control it maintained over other regions. From incompetent rulers to a focus on reason and rationality, we can see that the themes discussed by Swift in the novel have repeated themselves throughout the historical ages. Throughout the entire story, it is noticeable to the reader that there is not much in the way of plot surrounding Gulliver, the main character. Swift does not give textual insight as to Gulliver s inner workings or thoughts. This arguably happens mainly in the genre of satirebecause the author wants the reader to focus most of their attention on the social or political that are being referenced to within the writing. The same holds true for this story, as Swift heavily hints at the incompetency of King George I. One of the main points that Swift draws attention to is that of the gross incompetency and corruption of the various rulers. For instance, in Book One, the emperor of Lilliput is egocentric and for the most part, lets his ministers run the country. This is a distinct hint at the King George I of England, who did not know anything about politics and allowed parliament to do most of the ruling, holding him simply as a power figure. However, ... Evolution Of The Commerce Clause Analysis Bryan Tam Professor Joseph Margulies GOVT 3001 Evolution of the Interpretation of the Commerce Clause by the US Supreme Court From the birth of the Constitution of the United States in 1787 to the Supreme Court cases of the 21st century, the interpretation of the Commerce Clause has been a great source of controversy in the Supreme Court. Simply put, the Commerce Clause grants power to Congress to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes . When interpreted leniently, the Commerce Clause can give vast powers to Congress to regulate interstate commerce and any action leading up to it. In Wickard v Filburn, a very lenient interpretation of the clause gave Congress the power to regulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dagenhart, a father of two boys who would have lost their jobs if this act was upheld, challenged this act and this case was brought to the Supreme Court to be judged . The Court ruled in favour of Dagenhart, firstly arguing that the power to regulate interstate commerce does not include the power to prohibit interstate commerce. The Court also contended that the act does not aim to regulate transportation among the states, but instead aims to regulate child labour in mining and manufacturing within the states. Furthermore, the Court argued that manufacturing and mining are not commerce even if they were to be shipped or used in interstate commerce. Thus, the act was out of Congress power to regulate interstate commerce . A dissent by Chief Justice Holmes however argued that the power to regulate included the power to prohibit whatever Congress saw fit to. He then proceeded to list several historical examples where Congress was allowed to prohibit the interstate trade of several products. It should be noted that this case was later overturned by United States v Darby Lumber Company ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Influence Of Religion On Western Society Essay Kaitlyn Ouellette November 22, 2016 Impact of Religion Assignment The Influence of Religion on Western Society Religion has significantly affected the development of western civilizations and societies. All throughout the history we have covered in class, religion has played a key and essential role in defining the types of cultures within a society a belief or faith in a spiritual, also a divine power can add significance and true meaning to many of the western people s lives. Religion is essentially the force that binds a race or a religious group together, and comes with a sense of personal identity to a higher figure, God. Three specific and most commonly known religions of Western Society we have focused on in class have been Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Ultimately, all three religions have a common belief: the religious belief that this universe came into existence, and controlled and governed by one single God. The history of Judaism began in the Bronze Ages in the Middle East when God promised a leader by the name of Abraham that he would be the father of great people if he did as God told him, The Lord has said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your father s household to the land I will show you. Isaac then married and the third most significant figure in Judaism figure was then born, Jacob. • 7. Human Behavior And Human Development Essay While the study of human genes is increasingly improving our understanding of human development, it is not solely our genetic makeup that determines how we will develop. Humans as a species share many universal traits, which make it easy to disregard the large influence the environment plays in development. Throughout the lifespan, the environment presents itself in many different positions that help determine and shape humandevelopment. By looking at the influence of the environment and geneticson human development we are able to create a more holistic view of this process and gain a better understanding of the complexities involved within it. Through this comprehensive lens, it is easy to see how probabilistic human development offers the greatest amount of explanation, unlike the predetermined views of genetic influence in the past, and that environmental influence has an extensive impact on human behavior. Throughout human history, there have been many shared processes and factors related to development. Evolutionary psychologyis a branch of psychology that has developed based on the idea that humans have shared behavioral traits. Demonstrations of these shared human traits can be seen in fixed patterns. These fixed patterns, such as yawning and attachment, are unlearned behaviors ever present in human development, allowing us to overestimate the power of genetics on human development as a whole (Newman Newman, 2016). While fixed patterns do have a largely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the professor explains that it would not be easy to get rid off the cane toad population and several measures taken, but that were unsuccessful, and refutes each of the author s reasons. First, the reading posits that national fence reduced the cane toad population. However, the more bad things you do the more bad karma that is accrued and therefore, the more likely you are to be reincarnated into something lesser than what you were. Moving forward we can see that there is an immanent need for a moral universe in any context of the word because of the way humans needs to categorize things in order to understand them. In Africa, there is an establishment of both context and content of African morality and ethics. God is both the Giver of life and the power behind everything there is and when we take a look at the universe there is a composition of divine and human hierarchy that helps the African people create perceptions of the universe that the world is a sacred abode of God and their ancestors. Due to the way the African people view the world, human action can be viewed almost as a sacred aspect of Christianity, thus making the way they teach their religion a dynamic part of who they are and who they will be. • 13. Analysis Of Corporate Governance Disclosure Practices Of... Research Problem Ever since India opened up its economy to privatization, liberalization and globalization there has been rapid institutionalization of the corporate sector and private enterprise. This has quickened the pace of economic growth since 1992. In this changed scenario, the quality of Corporate Disclosures has been an important factor not only for survival of the companies but also for influencing the company s ability to raise money from capital market. In recent times, corporate governance has attracted much attention both in academic literature and press media. Corporate Governance is related to effective, transparent and accountable administration of affairs of an institution by its management, while protecting the interest of its stakeholders comprising of the shareholders, creditors, regulators and the public at large. But the implementation of Corporate Governance principles is not an easy task. It is a very wide subject and needs a lot of discussion. The purpose of this study is to analysis corporate governance disclosures practices of listed Companies. As a medium for communicating information, annual reports generally include two types of disclosures mandatory and voluntary disclosures. In India, mandatory disclosures are required as per the provisions of Companies Act 2013(previously according to CA, 1956), and its various sister laws. Voluntary disclosures are those which are voluntarily disclosed by companies without any compulsion from any law. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A speaker, who is describing his or her death from beyond the grave, narrates the poem, which can be interpreted with either heavily Christian in its symbolism, or as the literal description of the dying experience. Dickinson uses the poetryelements of symbolism, imagery and point of view to give us an ironic poem, about dying and the afterlife, which leaves the reader unsure of what s on the other side of death. There is a disagreement in the literary world over the meaning of the fly, its symbolism and relationship to the speaker in the poem (Ruby 139). Dickinson might have used the fly in order to showcase that the dying speaker was still aware of the physical world but his or her senses were fading as the body surrenders to death With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Line 13). The fly could also have been used as an ironic symbol of death, decay, and human mortality. Since the fly is a creature that feeds and lays its eggs in dead flesh. Muthuveerapan Narayanan, Purushothaman Rayalsamy, Shafiul Ehsan Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Wayne State University 5050 Anthony Wayne Dr. Detroit, MI 48202, USA Abstract Electricity is not just an option for passenger cars. Hybrid and all electric technologies are moving into delivery trucks, garbage trucks, and tractor trailers, as well as into other more out of sight vehicles, all of which literally help keep our economy moving. For these medium and heavy duty trucks, the goals of electrification are the same as with cars: reducing pollution, oil consumption (in trucks, usually diesel fuel), and fuel costs. Expanding the use of electrification technologies is a key strategy for doubling the fuel efficiency of trucks and for helping to cut our nation s projected oil consumption in half over the next 20 years. In 2010, freight hauling trucks consumed 2.3 million barrels of oil per day more than we currently import from the Persian Gulf and emitted 348 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. Witness is a software package which allows for simulations of manufacturing processes to be created and in turn allows the user to gain a greater understanding of the aforementioned process. Witness is useful when being utilized to simulate a process with a desired outcome in mind therefor allowing a user to identify any issues that arise during the manufacturing process. The software package essentially allows issues in a manufacturing process to be addressed and solved before significant resources are spent developing a non viable process. Witness can save manufacturing companies both time and resources by minimalizing the quantity of issues faced in developing a new process. This report will detail the construction of an assembly line simulation within the Witness software package. The simulation will have the following attributes: Three categories of pan will be produced on an assembly line (type A, type B and type C). These pans will be available in a pre determined variety of colours (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Magenta). Following the pressing, colouring, coating and assembly processes the pans will be organized and arranged according to colour. The original model will be improved upon in an attempt to address a quality problem (reject product). Information about the level of reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of population that the researchers were working on. One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning of ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in three different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school have its school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper. Hicok (2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the author was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the students. The author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and scores. Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students. • 19. Taking a Look at Epidural Analgesia Epidural analgesia is considered the most effective pain relief method during labour (Tamagawa Weaver, 2012). It consists of the introduction of a local anaesthetic into the epidural space using a needle through the lumbar intervertebral space, usually between lumbar vertebrae 3 and 4 or 2 and 3 (Peate Hamilton, 2014). The anaesthetic inhibits nerve conduction by blocking sodium channels in nerve membranes, which in turn prevents the transmission of nerve impulses along these fibres. Therefore, the painful stimuli transmitted from the contracting uterus and birth canal is inhibited without consciousness impairment (Anim Somuah, Smyth and Jones, 2011). Firstly introduced in 1898, epidural analgesic was used for operative deliveries. The introduction of lignocaine in 1948 increased its popularity due to its faster onset and longer duration of action in contrast to its predecessor, cocaine (Moir, 1986). Epidurals became more widely available in the 1970s when a decline in home births occurred and active management of labour was introduced (Odibo, 2007). Currently, the rapid increase of epidural procedure rates were highlighted by the NHS Information Centre (NHSIC) (2011) where 25% of women in England who had spontaneous and induced onset of labour received epidural analgesia during labour between 2010 and 2011. However, despite its universality, an exact definition agreed upon by all people is lacking (Norcross Kobayashi, 1999). Physiologically, brain centers in the amygdala are connected to anger processing. Because the information processing that takes place in this brain structure is primitive, anger can be triggered inappropriately and without the individual s knowledge of the cause. However, by exploring the various characteristics of the different schools of psychotherapy, similarities and compatibilities become apparent, which can lead to a more integrative and eclectic approach to anger management. The Psychodynamic Approach The psychodynamic approach can be traced to Sigmund Freud in the late 19th century and the early part of the 20th century. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea of the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden. Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense mechanisms lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious. Psychodynamic techniques try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the underlying conflict (Phares and Trull, 2001). Among the emphases of psychodynamic therapy are a focus on the evocation and expression of emotion to uncover the patient s unconscious issues, the importance of emotional insight in which the patient can experience and comfortably understand his emotion, a concentration on a ... This departure allows people to project their own meaning onto the piece. They all come from varying backgrounds so their understandings of the art are all radically different. John Rawls attempts to apply the same concepts of abstractionism into political philosophyto arrive at a set universal rules and values. However, Rawls ultimately fails, giving rise to an either too limited or too vague theory of justice. Rawls is not clear on how to access morality, who his theory applies to, and whether or not his theory functions in reality. Rawls acts to expand on the social contract making it more applicable to the needs of the least advantaged. One of political philosophy s goals is for the government to find some underlying basis of philosophical and moral agreement such that the citizens agree on its authority . He postulates the current system of government, utilitarianism, is deeply flawed, because it allows for the continued suffering of the most vulnerable in society as long as the majority benefits . Instead Rawls proposes the veil of ignorance take its place. In this thought experiment, men are in the original position, in which the parties do not know their conceptions of the good or their special psychological propensities . • 27. The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally responsible means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in accordance with one s moral obligations. People could argue that they have free willor not. According to general knowledge of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things on ones own discretion. Thus, in this paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for their actions. I will prove this by using the concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the sense that for humans to be morally responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of his or her decision. In the case of Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has minimal effect or no effect on moral responsibility. Free will Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will is a choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher, when we call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it. (Edward). The 2007 2008 financial crisis has a huge impact on US banking system and how the banks operate and how they are regulated after the financial turmoil. This financial crisis started with difficulty of rolling over asset backed commercial papers in the summer of 2007 due to uncertainty on the liquidity of mortgage backed securities and questions about the soundness of banks and non bank financial institutes when interest rate continued to go up at a faster pace since 2004. In March 2008 the second wave of liquidity loss occurred after US government decided to bailout Bear Stearns and some commercial banks, then other financial institutions took it as a warning of financial difficulty of their peers. In the meantime banks started hoarding cash and reserve instead of lending out to fellow banks and corporations. The third wave of credit crunch which eventually brought down US financial system and spread over the globe was Lehman Brother s bankruptcy in August 2008. Many major commercial banks in US held structured products and commercial papers of Lehman Brother, as a result, they suffered a great loss as Lehman Brother went into insolvency. The Consultative Sales Process Guide Essay Question # 2: The consultative sales process guide is a process used to think of a sales presentation to create value added to the product or service. This includes need discovery, selection of the solution, need satisfaction through informing, persuading and reminding, and servicing the sale. According to Manning, need discovery aids salespeople in creating value, meet the needs of customers, and execute the firms commitment by reviewing behaviors of successful salespeople (230). Need discovery is a problem solving tool that avoids customer complaints and promotes return customers. Need discovery is the first step in the sales presentation by asking client questions and surveying potential customers to see if they are the right fit for the company, and the time it takes to establish this entirely depends on the situation (Manning 230, 2012). Need discovery adds value, by beginning with preparation on behalf of the salesperson where they qualify the prospect (Manning 231, 2012). After consideration, salespeople start up a two way conversation with the potential client, helping clients realize their problems that they did not know they had before. The next step is the selection of the solution, where salespeople customize solutions based on a client s particular problem, because no two problems are the same. In this step, salespeople throw out suggestions and recommendations to the client, where they will satisfy the customer, therefore salespeople must be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe it is time for a change in the system as Canadais completely different from back then. Using Canada itself as the figure is more appropriate than the Queen, fit the constitution better, and supported by our society structure. New citizen should swear a pledge to Canada, instead of an oath to Queen. In our current system, potential citizens are required to swear an oath to the Queen under the Oaths of Allegiance Act, rewritten in 1985, required in the Citizenship Act. This law roots back to the monarch era of the Great Empire of Britain, specifically 1689 by King William II and III and Queen Mary II. Its purpose was to secure the supremacy of the reigning monarch and in its colony, including Canada. It found its way into our modern law system created in the confederation of Canada in 1867. The oath had stayed the same for 150 years. From a British colony to known for its multiculturalism and diversity with 20% of immigrants representing its total population. Yet, Canadian immigrants still had to bow and oath to the foreign Queen? Dror Bar Natan is a math professor from Israel. He is also one of the long time permanent residents who challenge the oath. Eden Robinson Belonging A Journey to Acceptance: A Comparative Analysis of Eden Robinson s Traplines and Joseph Boyden s The OrendaHumans tend to have the instinctive desire to belong and be a significant member of something greater than themselves. This sense of belonging is usually provided by family; but what happens when this vital component of an individual s development is flawed? The main characters in Traplines by Eden Robinson and The Orenda by Joseph Boyden suffer from this exact predicament. Not only do Will and Snow Falls lack a stable family structure, but the feeling of becoming increasingly restrained within themselves takes a toll on their perception of authentic identity. Even though these characters come across multiple adversities, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Traplines, the most distinct form of Will s confinement lies in his routine lifestyle that involves abuse and addiction. An example of this is shown when the text states, On Christmas Eve ... Mom and Dad will go to a lot of parties and get really drunk. Eric will go to a lot of parties and get really stoned. Maybe this year I will too (Robinson 458). The certainty behind his prediction suggests that he has been trapped in a life of such conduct for a prolonged period of time and that he might as well concede to the destructive path it provides. If the story is viewed through a lens in which Will is of Native descent, the feeling of being restricted within one s self does not only have an impact of his sense of self identity, but on other people s perception of him as well. The text states, When he [Mr. Smythe] reached over, I put my hands up and covered my face. He stopped, then took the phone out of my hands. It s okay, he said. I won t hurt you. It s okay (Robinson 461), which illustrates how his constraint to an abusive atmosphere is able to strain his relationships with those that he trusts. Will also finds himself to be confined in his inability to speak up for himself, as displayed through his altercations with Eric and when Mr. Smythe incorrectly assumes that more than one member of his family contributes to his abuse. Although these are two different circumstances, Will s inaction to both is most likely out of fear for what could result from retaliation. As for The Orenda, it is evident that Snow Falls often feels trapped within the past, most of which encompasses traumatic experiences. Even in her death, her deceased family is the first thing that comes to her mind, as presented when the text states, I remember my mother now, my brother, drumming their legs into the other world ... • 40. Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive, and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Although these two approaches (past and present) to the eugenics movement are conducted in different ways, the motivations behind them are theoretically similar.
