The Development of Empathy
The Development of Empathy
a literature review

Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught

Introduction
Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize
(Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism,
collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime,
violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for
others, the development of empathy requires a lifelong process of relational interaction (Szalavitz
Perry, 2010). More importantly, the first relationship humans experience, the ... Show more content on

The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one s own mental
competence in order to react (or not) to the affective states of others (Decety Meyer, 2010).
This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical
models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we
will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and
emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of
attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the
infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to
discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated
with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little
research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies
of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies.
Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to
prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in
which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). From the first
hour after birth, babies can imitate several

The New York That Newland Archer
There is a change to the New York that Newland Archer has been accustomed too his whole life.
Living in the upper class New York, there are many traditional customs one follows. A first person
narrative told by Newland Archer, the stories protagonist, showing his view on his new life in New
York City. Archer befriends Lawrence Leffert; a man who displays himself as a perfect man. The
character of Lawrence Lefferts is established for a reason, to help Newland realize his true self, and
how he doesn t follow the values that are in place during his time. Edith Wharton, the stories author,
wrote in Lawrence Lefferts as foil character to create a bigger fallout between the protagonist and
other major characters. Archer must make it clear where he stands, after getting suspicions that a his
inner circle society values, can be changed so easily by Lawrence Lefferts, a man whom contradicts
the social norm of upper class New York. At first Newland Archer sees Lawrence, as honest man in
the New York society throughout book one. Lawrence Lefferts a approachable young man with good
taste and high moral standards amongst his inner city society. As the story progresses, Archer sees
Lawrence as he really is, a man of many sorts, who isn t the man he actually is. Lawrence is in fact a
hypocrite, who betrays himself as a perfect being, but is a liar who goes against all the moral values of
the group. Edith Wharton, the author, uses this minor character, Lawrence Leffert, as a foil

The For Higher Unemployment Rates
Higher unemployment rates can be one of the main reason why immigrant women choose to be self
employed by necessity. Although immigrant women with university of college education have lower
unemployment rate than less educated immigrant women (TIEDI, 2011). These educated immigrant
women mostly choose to be self employed by opportunity.

Spinoza s Argument Paper
In this paper I will provide a fuller explanation to Spinoza s argument in 1p6 and 1p7 in order to
clarify possible ambiguities that arise in sequence of the argument and demonstrate a fallacy in the
argument. In order to understand the content of Spinoza s argument, however, one needs to understand
his terminology of substance, attributes, and modes, given that it is the basis of his propositions.
Additionally, one needs to pay careful attention to the Axioms and Propositions prior to 1p6c and 1p7
to understand the transition that occurs between these two propositions. With that in mind, Spinoza s
view regarding substance becomes clearer in proposition 1p6c and 1p7, although it provides a
contradiction. PART A: In order to understand the content of the Ethics 1p6c, it is necessary to grasp
Spinoza s definition of substance, attributes, and modes. Spinoza refers to substance as something that
is not interdependent with anything but itself to exist, which does not require a prior conception of
another thing (I.def.3). Moreover, attributes allow the intellect to perceive the unique ... Show more

Furthermore, Spinoza refers to modes/affections as additional properties dependent on the presence of
a substance, for it is not possible to have a property of something if something is nothing. Equally
important, Spinoza is considering substance to be a first cause and self caused thing and does not
ascribe substance to any particular thing but God, only once, at the beginning of Ethics I [by] God I
mean an absolutely infinite being; that is substance consisting of infinite attributes... [expressing]
eternal and infinite essence (I def.6). This, in fact, demonstrates Spinoza s approach regarding
substance by not using God as an example of substance in propositions one through seven. With that
in mind, in

Article Title: Half the World Lives on 1% of Its Land, Mapped
2. Who is the author? What kind of influence would that have?
The author s name is Tanvi Misra, and the purpose of the article isn t really to persuade, but to inform.
Because of this, the influence truly depends on the reader s perspective and opinions on the topic, as
there is no line of argument that would hold against a brief article whose primary objective is to
enlighten its audience.
3. What unit does it fall under?
It could probably fall under multiple categories, such as this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

 South and East Asia is the primary 1% of this land, with large clusters scattered throughout
 These clusters mainly fall around India and China, some of the most populous countries in the
world
 The rest of the world has most of its clusters around major cities (although some areas are all black,
like most of Africa)
7. What is your reaction/review of the article? (agree, disagree, strong points, weak points, etc. You
must explain your stances! Give examples.)
I personally find this article to be quite informative, the facts and maps explain the topic briefly but
give the reader a new perspective on how we look at our world today. The first close up map (and the
second map overall), depicts South and East Asia, showing a generated map of half the population in
yellow, and the other half in black. The image is very surprising once explained; about 46% of the
world s population is located on this map, making the population density for such a large area about
the equivalent of small state Massachusetts! Even though Asia is such a large continent and there are
occasional news flashes about various population control issues, it had never occurred to me that
about half of our 7 billion (and counting) population can live in such clustered areas, as opposed to
living anywhere on the globe. This article was truly engaging and factual, and as an article that is so
direct, it approaches the topic well and gives light to the rest of the world

Similarities And Differences Between The Aeneid And The...
In many ways, Virgil s Aeneid mirrors Homer s Odyssey. Through context, characters, and themes,
these two famous ancient epic poems are similar; however, in morality and treatment towards the
gods, they differ drastically. By comparing the two protagonists most popular epithets, one can
immediately see how unalike they truly are. Odysseus is often referred to as The Stormer of Cities or
the Sacker of Cities whereas Aeneas is almost always referred to as the Pious or Good Aeneas
(depending on the translation). These two epithets create a divergence in theme culture between the
two epics, for they directly reflect the morals of the cities that these epics are written for and about:
Rome and Athens. How a community presents their hero is how they present their ethos. The original
of the two, the Odyssey was written (supposedly) by Homer around the end of the eighth century
before common era. As one of the oldest works of Western Literature, the Odyssey set the stage for the
later epics to come. Evidently, one of those works would be Virgil s Aeneid commissioned by
Augustus himself. On the other hand, it is rumored that Augustus asked Virgil to write an epic in order
to raise the moral and integrity of the Roman Republic and bring Rome back to its original values. ...

When on the island with Dido, Juno and Venus have a conversation pertaining to Aeneas s fate with
Dido. Venus causes Dido to fall deeply in love with Aeneas as they share a cave together. Virgil says
that Venus laughed to see the guile behind this situation after she spoke with Juno about Aeneas and
Dido s fate. By this example, it is evident to notice that both Aeneas and Odysseus are guided by not
only their fate but the aid and will of the gods. This similarity, along with the others that will be
mentioned, is important because their resemblances juxtapose and ironize the immense moral
difference between the two

Napoleon Bonaparte and The French Revolution
Napoleon and The French revolution Napoleon Bonaparte was a visionary to some, and a ruthless
ruler to others. The purpose of the French revolution was to free the oppressed and stop the bloodshed
that was occurring in
France. The real question is whether Napoleon was the legitimate heir to the visions of the
French revolution. Napoleon was in essence a very powerful man that took control of France but
threw out many of the ideals of the French Revolution. His actions during his takeover where more
than enough to prove that he did not intend to let France live through the old beliefs of the
French revolution. During his time in power Napoleon reestablished a French aristocracy
(eliminated in the French revolution) and began handing out tittles of nobility (His reign,

Revolution.

Examples Of Jewish Resistance
Jews Fight Back Resistance is the refusal to accept or comply with something ( Dictionary ). The
Holocaust occurred between 1939 and 1945 in Germany (history.com). It was a period of time during
WWII where the jewish population were forced to follow and obey the Nazi s which meant being sent
to concentration camps and later extermination camps in order to achieve racial purity . This was
called the Final Solution . Countless of Jews resisted during this time hoping to stop the cruelty and
torture. During the Holocaust, Jews used armed and unarmed forms of resistance in order to retain
their humanity. Armed resistance was a way for the Jewish people to stand up for themselves. An
example of this type of resistance, is when the Jews attacked the Germans with homemade and
smuggled weapons. As stated in the Jewish resistance article, as German SS and police units entered
the ghetto, members of the Jewish Fighting Organization (zydowska organizacja bojowa: ZOB) and
other Jewish groups attacked German tanks with molotov cocktails, hand grenades, ... Show more

They did all they could do without being caught and most did it successfully. For example, they made
conscious attempts to preserve the history and communal life of the jewish people despite Nazi efforts
to eradicate the jews from human memory. These efforts included: creating jewish cultural
institutions, continuing to observe religious holidays and rituals, providing clandestine education,
publishing underground newspapers, and collecting and hiding documentation ( Spiritual ). This
shows that despite what was going on around them and all the violence, they found a way to resist
peacefully. This was a hard time for the Jews but they managed to find a way to remain hopeful.
Another non violently way jews resisted was keeping records and writing everything

How The Other Half Lives
Well done, Jacob Riis, well done. In the book How the Other Half Lives, published in 1890, harsh
criticisms and observations, along with photojournalism, of the appalling conditions of New York City
tenements and their neighborhoods are examined through the eyes of Jacob Riis. As a reporter at the
time for The New York Tribune, his writing and photography sparked reform and forced many people,
even the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, to focus their attention on the horrendous conditions in which
the immigrants of tenement neighborhoods lived in. Many immigrants have Jacob Riis to thank for in
part, for he helped shine a bright light on them at a time when many others kept them in the darkness.
Just as the Bible s opening chapter is named Genesis, Riis s aptly named opening chapter, Genesis of
the Tenement, gives a brief history on how the tenements came to be in the city and sets the scene for
one of the most notorious slums in New York City, Five Points. Throughout the first several chapters,
Riis talks in general of the dire situation of the people living in the tenements and the tenements
themselves. He then goes on to discuss the Italians, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Arabs, blacks, women, and
children within these tenements separately chapter by chapter. One may notice the copious amounts of
stereotypes, prejudice in some sense, he uses when writing about the Italians, Irish, Chinese, and Jews.
However, one has to remember the fundamental reason of his writing when reading

How Did The Allies Cause Ww1
World War I was a war which really only needed any excuse to get started because of national
tensions, fear of imperialism and takeover as well as unresolved disputes from previous conflicts
between Germany and its border nations and allies. The excuse for this war or the small spark that lit
the huge fire of war and massive bloodshed came from Austria
Hungary and Serbia s dispute over how
to deal with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. Basically the Austria

Fish Reader Response Criticism
Fish s Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of
texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to
be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one interpretive community or another. The first idea
may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of
reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the
knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of
Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the
New Critics. But as we will see, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This excerpt begins at the level of innate human concepts (flesh) and proceeds through the more
concrete level of medical terminology (muscles, blood, epidermis) and onwards through an evocative
metaphor (red cloud). Before the reader reaches the final clause ( whose soul is lightning ), he has
built up an expectation that a culminating trope will be used to close the sentence, as is usual. Instead,
the fragment ends with whose soul is lightning which refers not to the red cloud, but to the flesh itself.
In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a psychological multiplier:
the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the
immediately preceding image. Now the reader possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh,
but the strange syntax (both in French and English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text
has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh? Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an
important point is the soul passion? Or is passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul?
Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself
confounds us. If you are lost as to what exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her
aim. Now take a look at Grace Frick s artful translation of the same text:
The flesh itself, that amazing instrument of muscles, blood, and skin, that

The Iroquois Constitution purposes and principles reflect with the sociological function and rules of
my household which will influence me when I become a parent. The Iroquois constitution is seen as a
way to promote peace within the five nations. They demonstrated principles and purpose through
always speaking the truth to a fellow nation, to not be easily hurt by criticism or angered, through
always praising their Gods for the things they have, and to include anyone who agrees to the
constitution, which connects to the sociological function. The rules of my household are similar in that
we are to always be truthful, to always show appreciation for what we have, and to never let others
affect one s values. This will inspire me for when I become a parent. We will see how the purposes
and principles of the Iroquois connect with the sociological function.
Sociological function is represented through the story as they talk about the principles and purpose in
which each nation in the constitution must follow . In the story they talk about the spreading of their
nation and how anyone who wishes to join their constitution will be accepted with open arms. We see
this with the discussion of the Great White Roots, Roots have spread out from the Tree of the Great

Treatment And Treatment Of Dialysis Treatment
Under normal conditions, your kidneys are responsible for multiple functions such as cleaning blood,
producing hormones, balancing electrolytes, and maintaining blood pressure in the body. When the
kidneys fail, blood pressure will rise, wastes/toxins will remain in the body s circulation, and the body
will retain excess water which can lead to inadequate production of red blood cells (Source 6). These
symptoms of kidney failure are a medical emergency and call for intervention such as a kidney
transplant. The wait for a kidney can be lengthy; therefore a process known as dialysis can be a life
sustaining measure until a suitable donor is matched. Dialysis has been found to temporarily alleviate
the condition, but only for an average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the Dialysis filters the blood, the clean blood is returned to the patient through another tube that
s injected into the patient (Picture A). Even though this procedure is done under supervision in the
security of a hospital and does a more than adequate job of performing the functions of a normal
kidney, there are some disadvantages. For one, the dialysis process is a very strict and time
consuming. The schedule requires treatment 3 times a week for 4 5 hours (Source 6). This time
commitment will most likely to be very inconvenient and make the previous life style of the patient
difficult. Secondly, if proper cleansing routines are not followed, it is also possible for the patient to
receive an infection. A third disadvantage is the constant insertion of needles into the patient which
can not only cause infection/irritation if the needles are unsterile, but can lead to stress for the patient
if they have a fear of them. Another disadvantage is that patients often report increased itchy skin, of
which there has yet to be found a soothing remedy. A fifth disadvantage is that some patients on
dialysis establishing insomnia/restless leg syndrome, which can lead to sleep apnea, headache,
depression, and decreased alertness (Source 2). However, unlike the itchy skin, the symptom of
insomnia has multiple effective treatments. A final disadvantage of hemodialysis is a

Milton Friedman Analysis
Who should benefit, and at whose expense when running a business? Milton Friedman maintains that
profit is the only true goal, benefitting the stockholders. However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that
the needs of all a business s stakeholders must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view
because the environment has changed since the time of Friedman.
Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility to society is a
baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking meaningful analysis or precision.
What does it mean to say that business has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities
(Friedman, p.218)1. Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more

Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an executive should
not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due to his own responsibilities. He then
uses this to state that business should never perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would
not further the pursuit of profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of
profits is more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government regulation is
much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would soon lead your business on a sharp
decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all
stakeholders of a business as more than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the
stockholders, as by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of
government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight separate companies
(Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of corporation, and their money should not
be spent frivolously, but it would be difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and
customers all desert you. Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed
and considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to the ground.
The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman s argument may
have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. Regulation and law have increased the influence of
other stakeholders. To ignore that fact would be corporate

Bioterrorism refers to biological agents (microbes or toxins) used as weapons to further personal or
political agendas. Acts of bioterrorism range from a single exposure directed at an individual by
another individual to government sponsored biological warfare resulting in mass casualties. (CDC)
The way that bioterrorism happens is that there is a deliberate release of germs or other biological
substances that can cause individuals to become sick. This attack happens internally rather than
externally. According to Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC), In the U.S., the risk of
contracting anthrax is extremely low. The intentional release of anthrax following the events of 9/11

Why Food Is A Natural Resources
Natural resources are important because most of the things in the world comes from natural resources.
Some people think that food is a natural resource but its not. Food is not a natural resource because
you have to grow the food first. Gas and air are both natural resources because air helps you breath
and survive on the earth. Gas is a natural resource because it helps us drive our cars and planes. Gas is
important because without it how would we get from place to place. Also without gas how would
police get to a crime scene or get robbers before they escape from the bank. If robbers get away
money will be taken away from people. Bees are a natural resource because people can t make bees.
They are also helpful because without them who would take the honey and nectar from plants and
flowers so that the can grow. Without the bees who would take the nectar from the plants to help them
grow. When bees go extinct the prices of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps us because at night we can barely see and if it s like that all day people might get in even
more accidents. We also need the sunlight so that people can get to there job and home safely without
any problems. Sunlight is also a good this because when it is sunny out you can go outside and go to
the beach and have fun with friends and family all day long. If there wasn t any sunlight kids wouldn t
go outside with their friends because it would be too dark to play anything at all. Water is a natural
resource because we can get it from lakes, oceans, rivers, and creeks or even toilets. These are all
possible water resources because certain types of people clean the water so that people can drink it
instead of getting poisoned everytime you drink water. When people get poisoned they will have to go
to the hospital and get treated just because they got poisoned when there are other people in the
hospital who also need more treatment than what that one person is

The Story Of A Cottage
In a cottage far far away there lived a girl named June. June lived with her mother and father. Every
day, June and her mother would go out and find new flowers to look at and to see. June s mother s
favorite flower was a petal flower and the only place that had the petal flower was by the Witch s
house. Once in awhile June and her mother would go out and try to see the flower without getting
caught by the mean old Witch. While June and her mom went flower hunting her father would go out
and try to sell the different types of flowers that they picked.
One day, the mother was getting old and sadly died. June was only 15, but she had to keep finding
new flowers to keep her dad and her alive. Her mother was buried near the grassy field by ... Show

The Witch ran past and grabbed June. She was too fast and June couldn t escape. The Witch quickly
locked her up in a jail cell that was located in her basement. Little girl , said the Witch, Since you have
stolen my flowers I have no choice but to CURSE YOU . Those flowers took years to grow and I
made them, that is why you can t find them anywhere else , The Witch explained. The Witch took
something out of her cabinet and threw it onto June. She threw a goat potion because all of a sudden
June turned into a goat. Why did everything turn so small? , cried June. You fool, said the Witch, you
have turned into a Goat, and you will be like that for the rest of your life if you can find three roses.
You have to tomorrow night to break the curse, but if you don t you will be a goat forever. June has
seen roses before. Roses were located on the way to the petal flowers, because she made her trip here
everyday she knew exactly where the are! The Witch unlocked the jail cell and June started her
journey. The duck stopped in her path and repeted his saying, If you fix things, other things will be
fixed! Ramo I am on a very important journey. If I cant find three roses by tomorrow I will be stuck
like this forever, June cried. Can I join you? Ramo said. Sure , June commented.
June and Ramo started their adventure. June realized that the duck is also under a curse. Secretly the
duck was the prince and he had a quest, but he got stuck and the Witch turned

How Does Immigration Affect The United States Economy Essay

How does immigration affect the United States economy
Abstract:
Foreign born workers have dramatically increased in the Unites States due to immigration. How does
immigration affect the United States economy can be researched by finding the difference in
productivity and income per worker between states which have large inflows of foreign born worker
and those without many immigrants. Official data shows that states with large immigrant inflows have
higher productive capacity because they can attract foreign and domestic investment. With higher
productivity capacity, worker s wage would also soar. However, some people point out that foreign
born workers are stealing work opportunity from local workers; actually, there is no evidence to
confirm that.
Recent years, more and more foreign people immigrate to the United States by a variety of
approaches. How does immigration affect United States economy is now a hot topic discussed by
economists and ordinary citizens. Many people believe that foreign born workers are thieves who steal
their work opportunities; meanwhile, many people point out that these immigrants are essential for
United States society because many of them are doing the job that local people are not willing to do
such as cleaner and sewer workers. Most economists find no relationship between large immigration
inflows and local worker s employment rate and wage level.

Baseball Problems
There s a problem coursing through baseball, and it goes well beyond Philadelphia Phillies manager
Gabe Kapler choosing which reliever to use by throwing a dart.
Attendance for Major League Baseball games is down 6.6 percent from this time last year, forecasting
the third straight season of decline. While the popular excuse is to blame the downturn on early season
washouts, Commissioner Rob Manfred recently told The Wall Street Journal he is concerned that there
s something to it more than weather.
In Philadelphia, attendance is actually up about three percent from 2017 to 24,855 per game. But
considering the Phils are currently 15 games improved over their 22 47 record a year ago, this is no
cause for smug satisfaction.
Manfred is correct, of course. The national pastime has systemic ... Show more content on

Three problems that I see, actually:
1. The sport has become too expensive While attending a Major League Baseball game remains
cheaper than watching other sports, it has moved out of the range where heading to the park can be an
impulse buy.
The average Phillies ticket this season costs $36, according to the data tracking company Statista.
While this is actually cheaper than last year, it still means that including parking, a few snacks, and a
souvenir a family of four s visit to the ballpark will be a $250 hit.
2. Baseball lacks identifiable superstars The NBA has LeBron James, Steph Curry, and many others
recognized just by their first name. The NFL has at least six quarterbacks famous to the world.
Baseball has . . . uhh.
Yes, Mike Trout is an amazing player. Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer may be all time greats.
But, alas, none has any kind of national or international standing. A recent ESPN study of the 100
most famous athletes in the world included zero baseball players.
We can fairly blame poor marketing, but the sport sorely needs players with the magnetic personalities
of Ken Griffey, Jr., Randy Johnson, and Big

airline into one of the most profitable, privately owned aviation groups in the industry. The group

The EU economy is expected to grow further over the next decade as more countries join the union
especially considering that the new States are usually poorer than the EU average, and hence the
expected fast GDP growth will help achieve the dynamic of the united Europe. It is estimated that the
Eurozone will grow around 2.6 per cent this year (2006), on a par with other industrialized nations
such as the United States at 2.6% (Q2 2006) and 1.6 (Q3 2006).
GDP: $12.82 trillion. (2006) GDP/capita: $18,056. Annual growth of per capita GDP: 2.8% (2006).
Income of top 10%: 27.5%. Unemployment 8.8% (2006).
Opportunities:
1. GDP is growing; opportunity to take advantage of that growth.
2. The EU has made doing business across borders easier with standardized currency and regulation.
3. Inflation rates are steady along with currency rates; currency exchange risk will be lower.
Threats:
1. The European economy is not growing as fast as developing nations such as China.
2. The EU has a lot of power over the economy in terms of currency rates and regulations.
Political/Legal Segment
The European Union has evolved over time from a primarily economic union to an increasingly
political one. This trend is highlighted by the increasing number of policy areas that fall within EU
competence: political power has tended to shift upwards from the Member States to the EU. The

FedEx s External and Internal Environments FedEx s external environment both positively and
negatively affects the organizations operations. Their external environment consists of government,
weather, and the economy. FedEx does not have a very large external environment because their
operations are not affect by many outside sources. The government affects FedEx s operations by
providing security regulations. A regulation that affects them is increased security regulations that

The internal environment of FedEx consists of customers, distribution and competitors. This
environment determines what FedEx does to succeed in their market. FedEx has two major customers
who consist of businesses and individual customers. These business customers have accounts with
FedEx to arrive at their location to pick up packages daily or weekly. Two thirds of FedEx s business
comes from these customers so FedEx curves their operations to satisfy this clientele. Since FedEx s
competition is trying to acquire some of this clientele they have begun to operate and market to this
clientele more effectively. Individual customers are also in FedEx s internal environment. These
customers represent one third of their business. With increased competition from competitors FedEx
has marketed to this market substantially. They have created boxes that are prepaid for shipment as
long as the contents fit into the box. This has effectively increased business amongst individual
customers for FedEx. FedEx s internal environment also consists of their distribution and delivery of
packages. This environment contains FedEx s trucks and planes that it uses to transport their packages
for their customers. If their trucks or planes break down FedEx needs to find an alternative or get these
vehicle s fixed immediately. Appropriate maintenance and regulatory inspections are done to these

Enron And The Enron Corporation
Nearly all accounting instructors utilize the so called Enron Scandal as a means to educate students on
accounting ethics and how regulations in the accounting world were enacted. The 2001 scandal
involved two parties: Enron Corporation, a U.S. energy commodities firm, and their auditors Arthur
Andersen, LLP, currently a U.S. holding company and formerly one of the Big 5 U.S. accounting
firms. When the scandal broke, Enron was one of the most innovative companies in the world and
Arthur Andersen was the biggest professional services company in the world; so, when both
companies fell, it completely changed the world of Accounting.
The Enron Corporation was founded in 1985 when Houston Natural Gas merged with InterNorth, a
Nebraska based Company. For six consecutive years thereafter, Enron carried the title of Americas
Most Innovative company (Folger). The reason Enron was regarded as so innovative is that the
company completely changed the way the energy industry was run. In 1987, Enron s CEO Kenneth
Lay hired Jeffrey Skilling as a consultant to completely change the business strategy that the company
was run on. At that point, the company started taking advantage of the fact that the energy industry
was deregulated and ...created a gas bank in which Enron would buy gas from a network of suppliers
and sell it to a network of consumers, contractually guaranteeing both the supply and the price,
charging fees for the transactions and assuming the associated risks

Analysis of Setting and Characterization in Greasy Lake ...
In his short story Greasy Lake, the lake with the community teenagers create a stereotypical scene of
current youth pop culture. Many youth who read this story can find the ironic references and
similarities with their lifestyle in today s world. T. Coraghessan Boyle uses the setting of the story to
expose a world lacking self discipline and showing immorality amongst a community youth, which
can sometimes be rather common today. This also aids in creating an atmosphere that surrounds
suspense and impaired judgement to better develop the characters of the story. Boyle is able to achieve
this by creating a setting with the story of the Greasy Lake and describing the Lake as both a setting
and main character. Greasy Lake is described by the narrator as an aura of possessiveness and
suspense to the average reader. However, while somewhat stereotypical, the narrator and his friends
see the lake as the most ideal location to get together on late nights. This can be translated as the
beginning of setting a scene for a location in which the adolescent youth can meet, with the reference
to Bruce Springsteen s words from a song that opens the story: It s about a mile down on the dark side
of Route 88 (Boyle, 125). The words from the song create a scene of how the youth had essentially
treated the lake as their own place. The image is further made clear when the faint island in the middle
of the lake is described as a single ravaged island a hundred yards from

The Beat Generation In Jitterbug Perfume By Tom Robbin
The Beat Generation an inspiration to many
The beat generation was a movement that sought to oppose American society values, and any sort of
control. They explored Eastern religions, was somewhat postmodernism, rejected the materialistic
culture, spoke about drugs, our conscious mind, and fought for sexual liberation and exploration with
their unapologetically offensive language. While reading the novel Jitterbug Perfume written by Tom
Robbin, one can witness how the novel exhibits aspects of the beat literature, and thus concluding that
the beat generation served as inspiration to Tom Robbin.
The beat generation was focused on expanding the conscious mind, whether it was with the use of
drugs, Yoga, meditation, and most commonly the use of spiritual eastern religion. According to the
article, The Beat Generation and Buddhist Religion , the beat generation believed that Eastern
spirituality provided a better pathway leading toward ecstasy rather than spiritual stagnation and
suffocation. (Chandler 316) Daniel Ross Chandler also states that,
The Beat Generation comprised a vanguard signaling a significant shift occurring in contemporary
American religious consciousness; this dramatic change was confirmed by a rejection of institutional
religion... and an affirmation attesting that fresh spiritual insights are discovered through mystical
experience, hallucinogenic drugs, and eastern religion. (Chandler 313)
Salas 2
The Beats movement changed the thoughts of the youth because they introduced a new form of
thinking with this new form of religion that drastically differs from Christianity. They changed the
culture of America. Tom Robbin must have been influenced with this new shift in religion that the beat
movement caused in America because while reading the novel you notice the repetitive mention of the
mystical religion in ancient India. Alobar explained a religion he stumbled upon while traveling, and
Kudra would say how that religion resembled her own Indian religion. You witness Alobar describing
this ancient Indian religion in the sentence, they obtain their ideal through gradual stages of spiritual
progress. And their ordeal is neither immortality nor longevity, but release from the

Wedding Crashers Stereotypes
Wedding Crashers Wedding Crashers was the return of the R rated adult comedy movie, it was the
sixth biggest grosser in 2005, it is a sex comedy about two men who crash weddings to meet single
woman and deceive them to get them into bed. I believe the movie Wedding Crashers is against
feminism. The two male characters treat women like sex objects to gain their need for sexual
satisfaction. The movie stereotypes women to make them seem like sex objects, disregarding their
personality and intelligence. I think the target audiences are men who are in their late 20s and early
30s that are successful and enjoy humorous adult comedy. The movie revolves around the two main
characters, John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey. John and Jeremy are ... Show more content on

John and Jeremy are doing by crashing these weddings. They do not want to get out of the phase they
were in as adolescence, because they do not want to grow up. Chazz Reingold is the man who passed
on all the rules to being a wedding crasher to John and Jeremy. He is a middle aged man and still lives
with his mother at her house. He rarely crashes weddings anymore because he has found an unlikely
success in meeting girls by crashing funerals. He says grief is nature s most powerful aphrodisiac ,
therefore implying he is using the vulnerability of women at funerals to gain his sexual desires. He is
taking advantage of women who are not in the right state of mind, which is very low in standards
because again he is treating them as an ordinary object disregarding their feelings and intellect. Claire

harmless. He also is a cheating rat who treats Claire with great disrespect. When Bradley is in the

Romeo and Juliet A True Aristotelian Tragedy Essay
A true Aristotelian tragedy is considered to contain characters with one single flaw. Characters such as
these display actions that wholly influence the outcome of the tragedy. William Shakespeare does just
that in the writing of Romeo and Juliet. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet shall be considered an
Aristotelian Tragedy as opposed to a tragic poem. This is true because every aspect of this poem
adheres to the definition of Aristotelian. This poem should be considered an Aristotelian Tragedy
because Romeo and Juliet committed their own flaw, which causes a chain reaction leading to their
deaths. The two lovers are incontestably able to control their actions, yet they simply and eagerly
choose not to. This is a decision completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Thrasher has previously stated: It is too perfect and too passionate for their world (Page). He is
saying how Romeo and Juliet think they are living in their own prefect world where nothing bad can
happen to them. Soon reality will strike, and there will be no turning back. Furthermore, since they are
teenagers who think they are in love, they do not understand what mistakes they are truly making by
continuing with their romantic relationship. Romeo soon takes his love to the extreme when he
continues to show his undying love for Juliet. In their reality, he believes For fear of that, I still will
stay with thee, / And never from this palace of dim night/Depart again (V, iii, 115 117). Here, he is
bestowing the ultimate sacrifice for Juliet. He does this to be with his one and only love for the rest of
his life. This shows weakness on Romeo s part because for Juliet, Romeo is willingly paying the
ultimate price, which is death. Rite then and there, Romeo commits a behemothic mistake, his suicide.
Juliet, on the other hand, shows her weakness in her romance by indubitably wanting to marry Romeo
the night she meets him. This is nothing but an immature and somewhat adolescent move because she
clearly did not think before she made this irrational decision. Moreover, she seemingly gets so caught
up in teenage love, that she does not want the feeling to ever end. She especially experiences this
feeling when she yells O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny

Essay about Hamlet 11
Why does Hamlet delay taking action against Claudius? This is a question that everyone want to
know. We all know that Hamlet want to kill his Uncle Claudius as soon as possible. But why does he
wait so long to sweep to his revenge? I believe that there are more than one reason why Hamlet delays
before he takes action.
One reason why Hamlet delays to take action against Claudius is because he does not just want to kill
him, but he wants to damn his spirit. He hates Claudius so much that he is willing to take his life and

This is another reason why Hamlet delays on killing his Uncle.
In the last scene of the play Claudius makes a big plan to ensure Hamlets death. In this plan he poisons
a drink that is for Hamlet. He also helps make the sword fight one side and fatal to Hamlet. But
Claudius plan backfire in the biggest possible way. And he winds up pinioning his wife Gertrude in
which he loves dearly. And this gives Hamlet even more reason to kill Claudius.
I feel that this delay is justified because Claudius got what he deserved. Hamlet had every right to kill
Claudius. Claudius killed his own brother married his sister in law, stole Hamlets thrown, and in the
end kills Hamlets mother. Why does Hamlet delay taking action against Claudius? This is a question

A Journey To Happiness In Rock, Paper, Scissors
A Journey Toward Happiness Happiness is the key to success. While reading the chapter on
confession and how to turn back to God, there was a passage that stood out to me. Every journey
toward something is a journey away from something. This reminded me of the presentation that was
given a couple of weeks ago to the students. The speaker s slogan was Rock, Paper, Scissors . A point
of his speech that stood out to me was about the scissors. The speaker said that everyone need to cut
out the things in our lives that are not good for us if we want to have a successful future. When I read

  • 2. The Development of Empathy The Development of Empathy a literature review [pic] Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught Mary Gordon Student: Vanessa Anseline Introduction Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism, collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime, violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for others, the development of empathy requires a lifelong process of relational interaction (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). More importantly, the first relationship humans experience, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one s own mental competence in order to react (or not) to the affective states of others (Decety Meyer, 2010). This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies. Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). From the first hour after birth, babies can imitate several

  • 6. Spinoza s Argument Paper In this paper I will provide a fuller explanation to Spinoza s argument in 1p6 and 1p7 in order to clarify possible ambiguities that arise in sequence of the argument and demonstrate a fallacy in the argument. In order to understand the content of Spinoza s argument, however, one needs to understand his terminology of substance, attributes, and modes, given that it is the basis of his propositions. Additionally, one needs to pay careful attention to the Axioms and Propositions prior to 1p6c and 1p7 to understand the transition that occurs between these two propositions. With that in mind, Spinoza s view regarding substance becomes clearer in proposition 1p6c and 1p7, although it provides a contradiction. PART A: In order to understand the content of the Ethics 1p6c, it is necessary to grasp Spinoza s definition of substance, attributes, and modes. Spinoza refers to substance as something that is not interdependent with anything but itself to exist, which does not require a prior conception of another thing (I.def.3). Moreover, attributes allow the intellect to perceive the unique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author s name is Tanvi Misra, and the purpose of the article isn t really to persuade, but to inform. Because of this, the influence truly depends on the reader s perspective and opinions on the topic, as there is no line of argument that would hold against a brief article whose primary objective is to enlighten its audience. 3. What is your reaction/review of the article? (agree, disagree, strong points, weak points, etc. You must explain your stances! Give examples.) I personally find this article to be quite informative, the facts and maps explain the topic briefly but give the reader a new perspective on how we look at our world today. The first close up map (and the second map overall), depicts South and East Asia, showing a generated map of half the population in yellow, and the other half in black. The image is very surprising once explained; about 46% of the world s population is located on this map, making the population density for such a large area about the equivalent of small state Massachusetts! Even though Asia is such a large continent and there are occasional news flashes about various population control issues, it had never occurred to me that about half of our 7 billion (and counting) population can live in such clustered areas, as opposed to living anywhere on the globe. • 9. Similarities And Differences Between The Aeneid And The... In many ways, Virgil s Aeneid mirrors Homer s Odyssey. Through context, characters, and themes, these two famous ancient epic poems are similar; however, in morality and treatment towards the gods, they differ drastically. By comparing the two protagonists most popular epithets, one can immediately see how unalike they truly are. Odysseus is often referred to as The Stormer of Cities or the Sacker of Cities whereas Aeneas is almost always referred to as the Pious or Good Aeneas (depending on the translation). These two epithets create a divergence in theme culture between the two epics, for they directly reflect the morals of the cities that these epics are written for and about: Rome and Athens. How a community presents their hero is how they present their ethos. The original of the two, the Odyssey was written (supposedly) by Homer around the end of the eighth century before common era. As one of the oldest works of Western Literature, the Odyssey set the stage for the later epics to come. Evidently, one of those works would be Virgil s Aeneid commissioned by Augustus himself. On the other hand, it is rumored that Augustus asked Virgil to write an epic in order to raise the moral and integrity of the Roman Republic and bring Rome back to its original values. ... Venus causes Dido to fall deeply in love with Aeneas as they share a cave together. By this example, it is evident to notice that both Aeneas and Odysseus are guided by not only their fate but the aid and will of the gods. This similarity, along with the others that will be mentioned, is important because their resemblances juxtapose and ironize the immense moral difference between the two ... The purpose of the French revolution was to free the oppressed and stop the bloodshed that was occurring in France. The real question is whether Napoleon was the legitimate heir to the visions of the French revolution. Napoleon was in essence a very powerful man that took control of France but threw out many of the ideals of the French Revolution. His actions during his takeover where more than enough to prove that he did not intend to let France live through the old beliefs of the French revolution. During his time in power Napoleon reestablished a French aristocracy (eliminated in the French revolution) and began handing out tittles of nobility (His reign, History, no page.) • 11. Examples Of Jewish Resistance Jews Fight Back Resistance is the refusal to accept or comply with something ( Dictionary ). The Holocaust occurred between 1939 and 1945 in Germany (history.com). It was a period of time during WWII where the jewish population were forced to follow and obey the Nazi s which meant being sent to concentration camps and later extermination camps in order to achieve racial purity . This was called the Final Solution . Countless of Jews resisted during this time hoping to stop the cruelty and torture. During the Holocaust, Jews used armed and unarmed forms of resistance in order to retain their humanity. Armed resistance was a way for the Jewish people to stand up for themselves. • 12. How The Other Half Lives Well done, Jacob Riis, well done. In the book How the Other Half Lives, published in 1890, harsh criticisms and observations, along with photojournalism, of the appalling conditions of New York City tenements and their neighborhoods are examined through the eyes of Jacob Riis. As a reporter at the time for The New York Tribune, his writing and photography sparked reform and forced many people, even the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, to focus their attention on the horrendous conditions in which the immigrants of tenement neighborhoods lived in. Many immigrants have Jacob Riis to thank for in part, for he helped shine a bright light on them at a time when many others kept them in the darkness. Just as the Bible s opening chapter is named Genesis, Riis s aptly named opening chapter, Genesis of the Tenement, gives a brief history on how the tenements came to be in the city and sets the scene for one of the most notorious slums in New York City, Five Points. Throughout the first several chapters, Riis talks in general of the dire situation of the people living in the tenements and the tenements themselves. He then goes on to discuss the Italians, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Arabs, blacks, women, and children within these tenements separately chapter by chapter. One may notice the copious amounts of stereotypes, prejudice in some sense, he uses when writing about the Italians, Irish, Chinese, and Jews. Fish Reader Response Criticism Fish s Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one interpretive community or another. The first idea may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the New Critics. But as we will see, ... This excerpt begins at the level of innate human concepts (flesh) and proceeds through the more concrete level of medical terminology (muscles, blood, epidermis) and onwards through an evocative metaphor (red cloud). Before the reader reaches the final clause ( whose soul is lightning ), he has built up an expectation that a culminating trope will be used to close the sentence, as is usual. Instead, the fragment ends with whose soul is lightning which refers not to the red cloud, but to the flesh itself. In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a psychological multiplier: the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the immediately preceding image. Now the reader possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh, but the strange syntax (both in French and English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh? Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an important point is the soul passion? Or is passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul? Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself confounds us. If you are lost as to what exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her aim. The Iroquois Constitution Purposes And Principles Jomar Pierson Pierson 1 Mr. Brown, English 2 Period 4 11/15/15 Essay English 2 The Iroquois Constitution purposes and principles reflect with the sociological function and rules of my household which will influence me when I become a parent. The Iroquois constitution is seen as a way to promote peace within the five nations. They demonstrated principles and purpose through always speaking the truth to a fellow nation, to not be easily hurt by criticism or angered, through always praising their Gods for the things they have, and to include anyone who agrees to the constitution, which connects to the sociological function. The rules of my household are similar in that we are to always be truthful, to always show appreciation for what we have, and to never let others affect one s values. This will inspire me for when I become a parent. We will see how the purposes and principles of the Iroquois connect with the sociological function. Sociological function is represented through the story as they talk about the principles and purpose in which each nation in the constitution must follow . In the story they talk about the spreading of their nation and how anyone who wishes to join their constitution will be accepted with open arms. Treatment And Treatment Of Dialysis Treatment Under normal conditions, your kidneys are responsible for multiple functions such as cleaning blood, producing hormones, balancing electrolytes, and maintaining blood pressure in the body. When the kidneys fail, blood pressure will rise, wastes/toxins will remain in the body s circulation, and the body will retain excess water which can lead to inadequate production of red blood cells (Source 6). These symptoms of kidney failure are a medical emergency and call for intervention such as a kidney transplant. For one, the dialysis process is a very strict and time consuming. The schedule requires treatment 3 times a week for 4 5 hours (Source 6). This time commitment will most likely to be very inconvenient and make the previous life style of the patient difficult. Secondly, if proper cleansing routines are not followed, it is also possible for the patient to receive an infection. A third disadvantage is the constant insertion of needles into the patient which can not only cause infection/irritation if the needles are unsterile, but can lead to stress for the patient if they have a fear of them. Another disadvantage is that patients often report increased itchy skin, of which there has yet to be found a soothing remedy. However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that the needs of all a business s stakeholders must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view because the environment has changed since the time of Friedman. Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility to society is a baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking meaningful analysis or precision. What does it mean to say that business has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities (Friedman, p.218)1. Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an executive should not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due to his own responsibilities. He then uses this to state that business should never perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would not further the pursuit of profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of profits is more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government regulation is much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would soon lead your business on a sharp decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all stakeholders of a business as more than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the stockholders, as by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight separate companies (Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of corporation, and their money should not be spent frivolously, but it would be difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and customers all desert you. Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed and considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to the ground. The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman s argument may have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. How Does Immigration Affect The United States Economy Essay Weilin Ju, Baoxin Yang Dr. Dean He Commerce and Economic Development November 27, 2016 How does immigration affect the United States economy Abstract: Foreign born workers have dramatically increased in the Unites States due to immigration. How does immigration affect the United States economy can be researched by finding the difference in productivity and income per worker between states which have large inflows of foreign born worker and those without many immigrants. Official data shows that states with large immigrant inflows have higher productive capacity because they can attract foreign and domestic investment. With higher productivity capacity, worker s wage would also soar. However, some people point out that foreign born workers are stealing work opportunity from local workers; actually, there is no evidence to confirm that. Recent years, more and more foreign people immigrate to the United States by a variety of approaches. How does immigration affect United States economy is now a hot topic discussed by economists and ordinary citizens. Many people believe that foreign born workers are thieves who steal their work opportunities; meanwhile, many people point out that these immigrants are essential for United States society because many of them are doing the job that local people are not willing to do such as cleaner and sewer workers. Many youth who read this story can find the ironic references and similarities with their lifestyle in today s world. T. Coraghessan Boyle uses the setting of the story to expose a world lacking self discipline and showing immorality amongst a community youth, which can sometimes be rather common today. This also aids in creating an atmosphere that surrounds suspense and impaired judgement to better develop the characters of the story. Boyle is able to achieve this by creating a setting with the story of the Greasy Lake and describing the Lake as both a setting and main character. Greasy Lake is described by the narrator as an aura of possessiveness and suspense to the average reader. However, while somewhat stereotypical, the narrator and his friends see the lake as the most ideal location to get together on late nights. This can be translated as the beginning of setting a scene for a location in which the adolescent youth can meet, with the reference to Bruce Springsteen s words from a song that opens the story: It s about a mile down on the dark side of Route 88 (Boyle, 125). While reading the novel Jitterbug Perfume written by Tom Robbin, one can witness how the novel exhibits aspects of the beat literature, and thus concluding that the beat generation served as inspiration to Tom Robbin. The beat generation was focused on expanding the conscious mind, whether it was with the use of drugs, Yoga, meditation, and most commonly the use of spiritual eastern religion. According to the article, The Beat Generation and Buddhist Religion , the beat generation believed that Eastern spirituality provided a better pathway leading toward ecstasy rather than spiritual stagnation and suffocation. Characters such as these display actions that wholly influence the outcome of the tragedy. William Shakespeare does just that in the writing of Romeo and Juliet. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet shall be considered an Aristotelian Tragedy as opposed to a tragic poem. This is true because every aspect of this poem adheres to the definition of Aristotelian. This poem should be considered an Aristotelian Tragedy because Romeo and Juliet committed their own flaw, which causes a chain reaction leading to their deaths. The two lovers are incontestably able to control their actions, yet they simply and eagerly choose not to. This is a decision completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Thrasher has previously stated: It is too perfect and too passionate for their world (Page). He is saying how Romeo and Juliet think they are living in their own prefect world where nothing bad can happen to them. Soon reality will strike, and there will be no turning back. Furthermore, since they are teenagers who think they are in love, they do not understand what mistakes they are truly making by continuing with their romantic relationship. Romeo soon takes his love to the extreme when he continues to show his undying love for Juliet. In their reality, he believes For fear of that, I still will stay with thee, / And never from this palace of dim night/Depart again (V, iii, 115 117). Here, he is bestowing the ultimate sacrifice for Juliet. He does this to be with his one and only love for the rest of his life. This shows weakness on Romeo s part because for Juliet, Romeo is willingly paying the ultimate price, which is death. Rite then and there, Romeo commits a behemothic mistake, his suicide. Juliet, on the other hand, shows her weakness in her romance by indubitably wanting to marry Romeo the night she meets him. This is nothing but an immature and somewhat adolescent move because she clearly did not think before she made this irrational decision. Moreover, she seemingly gets so caught up in teenage love, that she does not want the feeling to ever end. She especially experiences this feeling when she yells O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
