Greeks And Romans Attitudes Towards People With Disabilities
Summary:
Section 1: The ancient era People have always been intrigued and highly interested in studying people
with disabilities. The first trial to make records about mental retardation took place in 1552 B.C.
Greeks and Romans considered themselves as powerful and developed nations, which implied that
cases of disability presupposed that the person was from a lower background. In fact, the Greeks
treated people with cognitive disabilities as uneducated people. Until 4th century B.C. those who had
seizures were considered to be touched by the God, but Hippocrates proved that there were physical
causes for these seizures (Disabilities, 2017). Aristotle believed that children with disabilities were
reversing the evolution process and had no right to live. Despite the fact that during the ancient era it
was prominent for the development of art, history, literature, while the attitude towards people with
disabilities was horrible. It was a great shame for rich families to have such children because they
were objects of humor (Disabilities, 2017). Only with the arrival of Christianity, this awful attitude
changed. Jesus Christ managed to teach people the ability to treat and help people living with
disabilities through the use of compassion (Disabilities, 2017). Galen, ancient scholar and physician

Even though Christianity was already spread across the Europe, the attitude towards people with
disabilities was not so great (Disabilities, 2017). There were idiot cages in the town centers, inside
which were people with disabilities, which served as entertainment for citizens. They were still treated
as different people of the society. Although, there were many churches which provided people with
disabilities with help and support. People began thinking that mental disorders can be cured and a

The Pros And Cons Of Alexander The Great Ruler Of Egypt
After the death of Alexander the Great, the empire was in complete chaos for Alexander had not

Same Sex Marriage: The Problems with DOMA and the Pursuit for Equality
Believe it or not, same sex marriage has been around since ancient times. At least two Roman
Emperors, Nero and Elagabalus, were in gay unions. It wasn t until the advent of Christianity that the
practice of same sex marriage was out lawed by the emperors Constantius II and Constans in 342 AD
and has continued to be through out most of the world until the twenty first century (Boswell 83).
With the advent of gay rights movement in many industrialized countries, same sex marriage has
become more accepted. A prime example of this is what lawmakers in the state of New York did on

constitutional protections to those who were once ignored or excluded from American Society. United

History essay Using these four passages and your own...
History essay Using these four passages and your own knowledge, asses the view that Japan was
driven into war with the western powers in 1941 by American policies. Both interpretations B and D
prove that America was the only driving force that caused a war in the Pacific. The oil embargo that
America enforced in 1940 was an incentive for Japan, a country very reliant on imports of which most
primarily came from America feeding its daily usage of 12,000 tons of oil,to declare war on the
country that was slowing its progress to conquer China. Interpretation B states that moderates and
militants alike saw American pressure as provocative thus creating a tension in the Pacific, with the
American foreign policy at the forefront of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However American concern for the safety of Asia would ultimately lead to a war in the Pacific and
Japanese hostility was solely to blame. Interpretation D also shows Japan s aggression being sparked
by American decisions. For example America, most of all, stood in the way stood in the way of this
through their control of resources in South East Asia. America s grip on all vital resources in the
Pacific would have driven Japan to war as it was the only alternative to stop America whilst still
keeping control over China. The leading philosophies of the time, assumed that acquiring an empire
provided the basis of prosperity and future national security. This on the other hand contradicts the
interpretation as it presents Japan as an empire with clear instructions on how to achieve wealth
through imperialism. This is shown throughout the passage where by the time the war in China began
in 1937 politicians favouring expansionism were in high offices of state. America is no longer the only
reason that war began as the views of the leaders in 1937 were evidently expansionist. Japan does not
want any relations with America as in the eyes of Japan s leaders that would have entailed a colossal
loss of prestige with incalculable internal consequences. Japan and the US both operated with an
imperialist mindset, but Japan government had mishandled the position they found themselves in

Machiavelli And Guile
It must be recognised that The Prince was only a small part of Machiavelli s literary output. He wrote
much more substantial works, such as the Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livius, the Art of
War, a History of Florence, and even some plays, poetry and biographical sketches. In many ways
these other works were more representative of Machiavelli s ideas than The Prince. Secondly, it must
be understood that Machiavelli s work was part of the political and national context of a Florentine
Republic that is 500 years distant from twenty first century liberal democracy. Machiavelli s era was
that of the Medici family, of naked conquest by military force, Machiavelli himself being imprisoned
and tortured for his beliefs and associations, something that was not at all unusual in ... Show more

Given this hard nosed reality, there was no point in dissembling about it, as even more human misery
would be the result. Hence the princely statesman must use guile and cunning in order to guarantee the
success and prosperity of his kingdom and his people, although this would also mean the preservation
of the resplendent riches of political office. Another element of The Prince thought shocking by some
commentators was Machiavelli s practical guide to the conquest of other states, a how to manual of
maintaining control of foreign lands. Machiavelli recommended administering them either by
devastating them totally, and living there in person, or by creating a local oligarchy loyal to your own
power base. However, Machiavelli warned that whoever was responsible for creating someone else s
system of power had actually ruined themselves, as the demonstrated mechanism of power creation
had elevated the assistant into a potential challenger to the new

Ben Jonson Syntax
Ben Jonson is known for his outstanding poems and plays written in the seventeenth century. He s
capable of putting simple words in a verse and makes them have so much meaning just by the way he
uses them. In the poem His Excuse for Loving, his use of diction, syntax, and tone are used in a way
that lets the reader realize exactly what he means. Jonson s work in this poem is quite simple, but says
so much. He expresses exactly how he feels towards his loved one with the use of certain words that
tie everything together. The language in the poem seems to be somewhat plain. Although it is plain,
the author, Jonson, still manages to put some dazzle inside what is plain. His word choice is simple
throughout each verse, therefore leading to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because Jonson shows his writing in a behavior that is acknowledged and not hated. In other
words, his tone is not angry, sad, or even desperate. Formal is the word that pretty much describes it
the best just like his syntax. Tonal shifts are a minimum in this poem. Actually there is no shift that
changes his actual tone. He says his age does not affect his love, but doesn t go into a sad tone. He
simply stays serious as he was in the beginning. Therefore, the poem is not affected by tonal shifts,
leaving a clear understanding. Jonson creates the tone of formal or serious by just expressing himself
in a behaved manner. Nothing else expresses these two tones. Plus his wording is just phenomenal;
which ties everything together so well. The meaning of the poem and the tone come together to show
beautiful work with so much expressed in such a simple

Dr Dozer Summary
Throughout Dr. Dozer s presentation on his work, I constantly made connections to what we learned
in the histology unit. I especially remember when he mentioned the stomach ulcers and how they
formed; I recalled back to the test and how that made sense because the stomach is not lined with the
needed epithelium to protect it from the stomach acid, therefore creating the ulcers. I also found it odd
yet funny when Dr. Dozer mentioned that ulcers where the most fun and exciting part of his job.
Additionally, I made a connection to when we studied the cells and how they formed cancer,
specifically to throat cancer and how it would have to be removed. The most shocking part was how
the cancer was surgically removed; having to remove the entire throat

Carbon Monoxide Chemistry
Carbon Monoxide gas is odorless, colorless, tasteless
Carbon Monoxide is often a result of incomplete combustion which occurs when molecules such as
hydrocarbons do not completely undergo combustion due to lack of oxygen.
Carbon Monoxide poisoning is extremely difficult to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to
other common illnesses such as a common flu and migraines.
Symptoms following acute exposure include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and chest pain
Symptoms following long term exposure include cerebral edema (buildup of excessive fluid causing
swelling in the brain), convulsions (seizures), and difficulty in breathing and coordinating.
Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide include faulty furnaces, gas stoves, and motor ... Show more

Ligand is an ion or molecule which bonds to the central atom or ion of a compound.
Pi backbonding for carbon monoxide is heavily depended on the fact that the carbon in carbon
monoxide has a negative formal charge thus when it bonds with the Fe+2 ion, the negative charge is
relieved.
Since the formal charges on the oxygen atoms in an oxygen molecules are zero, this makes oxygen an
inferior ligand in comparison to carbon monoxide which is a superior ligand.
Due to the formal charges of oxygen, pi backbonding plays a very minor role in the bonding of
oxygen to hemoglobin thus making the bond substantially weaker than that of carbon monoxide and
hemoglobin.
Essentially, our bodies inability to break the bond between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is what
makes it poisonous as it prevents oxygen from functioning in its optimal manner.
The only known biological process that produces carbon monoxide is when the enzyme Heme
Oxygenase is used to catalyze the breakdown of the heme group in hemoglobin.
As carbon monoxide (initial reactant) enters the body the concentration of it increases therefore
increasing the rate of reaction and producing more

military member is something different all together and something not many get to experience. No
matter what branch of service or what country you serve, the dedication is the same for all. Though the
history of each branch of the armed forces is different, the dedication is the same. The willingness to

Premarital Sex Greeley Summary
In Reverend Andrew Greeley s article Premarital Sex, he discusses the issues behind chastity and
promiscuity and how different generations view them. The thesis of this article was that the Catholic
Church s teachings were affected by the old fashioned, cultural belief that physical virginity must be
saved for marriage. Greeley s purpose of the article is to show the difference between physical
virginity and sexual love. The first argument that Greeley makes is that, although a practiced norm in
the Catholic culture, physical virginity is not part of the Catholic Christian heritage. Greeley adds that
the Catholics associated it with the practice that if the bride was a virgin, it guaranteed that land and
property was passed on the the rightful offspring. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another argument that Greeley makes is that physical virginity is not the reason Catholics do not
engage in premarital sex, but their belief in human love. He makes the statement that the main reason
chastity should be practiced is because those who abstain from premarital sex are committed to
reflecting the presence of God in the world . The next argument that Greeley makes is that young
couples are taught not to have physical relations with each other until marriage. They are taught that
they can only hold hands and can only have quick kisses. Then when they do get married, they are
expected to, leap from a relationship in which there was no expressed passion to one in which passion
was totally expressed within the space of twenty four hours . Greeley adds to this by saying that he
would rather the Church teach these young couples, skills of generosity, patience, and self sacrifice
required for sustained human intimacy , instead of preventing them of everything except hand holding
and light kisses. I think that Greeley s arguments were very effective and convincing. It opened my

The Last Emperor
Asian Studies 102
The Last Emperor was a very interesting film, rich in historical truth and an accurate portrayal of past
events that occurred in China during the 1900s. The story was very easy to follow and gave a more
modernized approach to teaching the impacts of historical proceedings by using the English language
but not forgetting to keep the facts in order. This approach gave me the opportunity to see the different
actors as if it were truly identical to what this time period was all about. Given that the plot was
centralized around Puyi, the last Emperor of China, and the director did an excellent job making the
movie fit the timeline. The film moves back and forth from when Puyi was imprisoned as an older
man and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the respect that families had for each other during this time. He greets his mother for the
first time in 7 years and doesn t recognize her face. She then talks of how she is proud of her son as
the Emperor of China. I saw it interesting how ordinary people have to turn away; they are not
allowed to look at the Emperor because he is too important. He seems very harsh and demanding even
at a young age. He tells his brother he cannot wear imperial yellow because it s only for the emperor. I
noticed how woman seem to be treated poorly in this time period.
Puyi s brother explains that he is not the emperor and the real ruler cut off his queue and drives a
vehicle around, referring to the president of the republic of China just on the other side of the
forbidden city. Puyi grows angry and tries to prove to his brother that he is the Emperor by making his
servant drink some sort of paint. He asks the loyal man who gave him the cricket if he is still the
emperor and he explains that he is the emperor only inside the Forbidden City, not the outside. The
film skips ahead to his later years in the detention center. We now find out that the strict general from
the beginning of the movie is actually the governor. He demands that the prisoners write down their
whole life story as a confession. By 1919, China was in turmoil from corrupt government. The film
showed protesters with red sashes in

The National Salvation Front
The National Salvation Front (FSN), led by Ion Iliescu, comprised the new provisional government.
Iliescu gained popularity by proclaiming his role in the death of CeauÅŸescu and championing a new
one party democracy (Wolchik and Cury 318). CeauÅŸescu s legacy and the lack of political
competition in Romania led the citizen s of Romania to believe in the empty promises of reform made
by the FSN and Iliescu. The National Salvation Front promised to be a transitional government and to
offer free and fair elections (Wolchik and Cury 317). In May 1990, they offered free, but unfair
elections in which Iliescu won the presidency with over 85% of the vote and the FSN won a majority
of parliament with 66% of the vote (Vachudova 41). Iliescu quickly proved to be anti CeauÅŸescu, but
not anti communist. Immediately after his election in 1990, Iliescu began to concentrate his power by
appointing communists to government positions, ousting non communists, and taking control of the
media (Vachudova 45). Anti Iliescu demonstrations in Bucharest began in response and Iliescu sent
miners to violently oppress the demonstrations (Linz and Stepan 361). Iliescu continued to
demonstrate that he would not allow a strong opposition. A small number of opposition groups
managed to exist in Romania; however, they were small and fragmented. Iliescu was reelected in
1992, despite his repeated manipulation of illiberal democratic processes such as rent seeking and
partial economic reform. Under

1870 And 1910 Research Paper
Before the Civil War, during the literary movements of Transcendentalism and Romanticism, many
Americans looked at the world in an optimistic point of view. After the Civil War during the
Reconstruction Era, many changed their outlook from optimistic to a more realistic outlook on life.
The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realism and Naturalism in
literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that
followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about
current events and how they affect people. The movements are still relevant today as it can be shown
through the arts of authors like; Jerry Spinelli, Nancy Werlin, and Patricia McCormick.

Animal Testing For The Sole Benefit Of Humans
For years, there has been a debate regarding the use of animals in medical testing for the sole benefit
of humans. Many people believe that testing on nonhuman animals solve the many issues that humans
face, but most of the time animals are exploited and put through painful experimental processes. The
purpose of this paper is to examine the possible alternatives to animal testing and the evaluate whether
there is a reduction in animals being used for experiments. The author of this paper will examine four
journal articles titled as the following: Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics of Alternatives, Scientists
and Animal Research: Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?, Strategic Focus on 3R Principles Reveals Major
Reductions in the Use of Animals in Pharmaceutical Toxicity Testing, No Animals Harmed: Toward a
Paradigm Shift in Toxicity Testing. Each journal article highlights different arguments of the said
problem and reveals information about animal testing that many may not be aware of. The author will
summarize all four journal articles and apply a response to each one.
Joel Marks, the writer of the Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics of Alternatives journal, aims to
express the reason why alternatives to animal testing should not be considered. Marks (2012) starts
out by stating that it is common to argue that animal experimentation is justified by its essential
contribution to the advancement of medical science (p. 1). According to Marks, this argument contains
an empirical claim that

Thomas Gage And His Impact On The Revolutionary War Essay
Thomas Gage and His Impact on the Revolutionary War
Matt Thompson
Mountain View High School Back in 1774 Thomas Gage had a job that no one would envy. He would
be tasked with stemming the tide of a rebellion in the colonies of North America. Many considered
him the protagonist of the English cause in the Revolutionary war. Tensions were rising and Gage had
just been appointed Military Governor of Massachusetts. With this title, he would effectively be the
most powerful British official in the 13 Colonies. Gage had control over military, political, and
diplomatic decisions (Britannica, 2015). When relations turned sour between the American colonies
and their mother country, people looked to Gage to make it right. Gage was unable to take the
necessary actions to prevent the war and ended up being a driving factor in the American Revolution.
In the beginning of Gage s time serving in the military and the start of his tenure as Military Governor
he was fairly well liked. Gage had fought in the French and Indian War after fighting a handful of
battles in Europe. He joined the military in 1741 and came to America in 1754 (Walsh, 2013). As he
served his country he began to move his way up the ranks of the British Army. It was in 1763 that he
reached the precipice of his military career, becoming Commander in Chief of all British forces in
North America. Just a few years after being appointed Governor of Montreal, he was now the most

Jack Kerouac s On The Road Essay
Jack Kerouac s On The Road
Jack Kerouac is considered a legend in history as one of America s best and foremost Beat Generation
authors. The term Beat or Beatnic refers to the spontaneous and wandering way of life for some
people during the period of postwar America, that seemed to be induced by jazz and drug induced
visions. On the Road was one such experience of Beatnic lifestyle through the eyes and heart of Jack
Kerouac. It was a time when America was rebuilding after WW I. Describing the complexity and
prosperity of the postwar society was not Karouac s original intent. However, this book described it a
way everyone could visualize. It contained examples and experiences of common people looking for

Cassady is the cowboy crashing , is a most accurate example of American society s fascination with
the cowboy lifestyle and how it eventually dwindled. Karouac describes these places and their short
adventures, in a very different but detailed manner according to his perspective. Some lavish and fun,
some corrupt and dangerous, but all very interesting. It describes the environment of several locations
throughout the nation during this period of postwar America with great accuracy. This is a fantastic,
documentary type novel that will leave the reader considerably more informed about what was
happening in society during that era along with a better understanding of why so many people were
drawn to the search of a new frontier.Although they referred to their journeys as spiritual , Karouac
had a difficult time convincing his critics of such a description. Though they rushed back and forth
across the country on the slightest whim, getting their kicks along the way, their real journey was
toward self realization and inner understanding. They seemed to cross most boundaries, legal and
moral, but it was only in hopes of finding a belief on the other side. On the Road could be considered
an American classic along with such books as Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn , and Scott Fitzgeralds
s The Great Gatsby . These are great novels

The Rise And Fall Of Troy Maxon
The Rise and Fall of Troy Maxon: An Analysis of August Wilson s play Fences In Fences, August
Wilson, the playwright, provides a believable and powerful examination of the African American
experience in the late 1950 s. It provides an apt portrayal of the mentality of African American men
going into the civil rights movement, as well as a well developed account of the friction that occurs
between a father and a son, and a husband and wife in the face of conflict. According to Wilson, his
play provides Caucasians with a view into an African Americans life to find similarities to their own
(Kennedy and Gioia 1883). Not only did Wilson accomplish this, but also provided a representation of
interfamily relationships that occurs in many cultures. For instance, Katz maintains that the father son
relationship contains ... inherent seeds of conflict (Katz). The relationship between Cory and Troy
mirrors the conflict between many young men and their fathers as they attempt to create their identity
and independence while the fathers are still attempting to shape their future based on their
experiences, creating conflict that transcends differences in race and culture. Similarly, the issue of
infidelity in a marriage is another issue that is common in a multitude of cultures (Hartnett), and
addressed in this play through Bono s accusations toward Troy, and Troy s subsequent admission to
Rose that he had an affair resulting in a child. Wilson puts the most effort into developing

Erik Erikson s Identity Development Essay
Todd Anderson from DPS develops his identity in a very similar way as Erik Erikson s identity
development theory. Erik Erikson mentioned that identity formation is the most important
developmental task during adolescence (Chen Wu, 2005). He identified eight psychosocial stages. His
identity vs. role confusion stage of development for 12 to 20 years old indicates: Adolescent must
move toward adulthood by making choices about values, vocational goals, etc. (Broderick Blewitt,
2015). There are four identity status: diffusion, moratorium, foreclosure and achievement which are
Erikson s conceptualization of identity development as a task involving exploration of carious possible
positions in the world (Broderick Blewitt, 2015)In the film, Todd Anderson goes through all three of
the four states which are diffusion, moratorium, and achievement as he develops his identity.
Diffusion is the state that represents young adolescents as they deal with the identity development
process (Broderick Blewitt, 2015). Adolescents in this state lack both exploration and commitment;
they are not looking for any possible life choices (Broderick Blewitt, 2015). At the beginning of the
film, Todd was in the diffusion state. He attends the first assembly meeting with parents but he shows
no passion about anything that is mentioned during the meeting. He is very shy, and he is not able to
hold a conversation with other people without feeling secured. He refuses Neil s invitation to be part

Security In Macbeth
When individuals are given a small amount of security, the temptation to overstep that small amount
of security for more power can clog your mind. In the play Macbeth by WIlliam Shakespeare, the
protagonist Macbeth was given a small amount of security that was abused. Macbeth was given a
small amount of security by the witches, then he put blind trust into them without any kind of backup
plan. When Macbeth overstepped the security that was given to him, he did not realized it and was
blinded by his ambition, that ultimately lead to more power and more ambition. In result of his
temptation, Macbeth went to utmost lengths to ensure that he would not lose the crown, but in the end,
his efforts were for nothing. Shakespeare is saying that when individuals are tempted by power, or that

Brief Summary Of Chapter 11 Analysis
The first chapter comes from the mother s point of view. It all started in Berkeley, spring season of
1942 with a sign on a post office window. The mother had just gotten a fresh pair of eyes, everything
was brighter, heightened, and clear. The woman read the sign, made and list and immediately went
home to make preparation. She packs for nine days prior to the day that all Japanese descent must
report for relocation. She makes most of the preparation while the children, a girl and a boy, attend
school. She completes the difficult tasks alone because her husband was already arrested after the
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
The second chapter was told from the perspective of the 11 year old daughter. She talks about their

family and wonders who thought about him and wondered why Elizabeth was the only friend who

The fourth chapter is a collective perspective from both children during the fall season. The forth
chapter is after the war when they return home to Berkeley. They are wiser as they observe how the
years has changed the environment they once called home. They take in their condition of having no
financial stability and the hardship of working to survive. They have all changed in some way but they
were utterly shocked as to how much their father changed in their years apart.
The Fifth and final chapter is different from the previous four chapters. The powerful final chapter is
from a singular first person narrator, the father. The final chapter shows us the father s view on being
labelled dangerous enemy alien , being separated from his family, ripped of his identity, merely a
number to the soldiers and being punished because of his appearance. The final chapter is short but
paints a very vivid picture of how he felt about the world around him and how people think in

Nikiforov Alternate Ending
Life is an unrehearsed play, always on its opening night. No ones know their lines, entrances,
anything. There isn t even a director. You just have to wing it.
Chapter 1: Where did he come from? Where did he go?
It was a chilly evening in mid September when Victor Nikiforov life became unscripted. Unraveled,
every synonym of that. It started when he pulled into the packed parking lot. One parking space was
left. The two people parked beside him did not have the proper education for how to park. How are
these hooligans allowed to have a car? Victor got out of his vehicle and looked up. A sleek grey
skyscraper stood, dominating the area. A fountain placed in the middle of the lot shot up synchronous
streams of water accented by green light. He strolled around it and went into the building through the
large revolving doors. The lobby was spacious, the stark grey floor had a glossy sheen. Accordingly,
the coaches were light grey with lime green pillows. Sconches lined the wall, giving the room a lime
coloured glow. The designers of the building were quite fond of the colour lime green. A young
woman sat in a semi circle shaped desk. Her auburn hair was tied into a bun. She was looking down at
her computer. She raised her head. Good Evening, Welcome to (idk something round I guess) Can I
have a name? She asked. Victor Nikiforov, he said. She scrolled on her desktop. Are you here for Jean
Jacques Leroy s engagement party? She asked, fumbling the pronunciation of Jean .

Themes In Seedfolks
Seedfolks is a story about people living in Cleveland and they live in a community that is not diverse
at all. The characters are all different races, so it is hard for them to go out in the world without
thinking they are being judged or bullied by other people. In the story, we see the characters building
up to create a community garden. This story is about how one act of kindness can generate another.
But that s not the only theme to the story. There are tons more morals and themes. Such as the garden.
The garden helps bring people together and makes the dirty neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio more
diverse. The characters in the book all have something in common, they all deal with family issues
and their races and cultures make them feel like they don t belong. But when the community garden is
created, everything starts to change. People become more open about their feelings, they have a lot of
friends, and everyone we read about connects back to one another. The characters in Seedfolks are
different from one another. They are all different races which makes them really self conscious about
how they look when they go out in public. They do not easily meet new people due to their cultural
differences and isolation in a large city. But when they convert the vacant lot into the community

William Penn Influence On American History
Many significant characters are in history, but in my opinion William Penn took a big part. History is
formed by people in order for these significant events to happen. We live in a world today where many
important people made changes to form how it is. William Penn isn t just another guy in the crowd; he
s made a bigger impact thank you think. We need to appreciate what all the people in history did from
their accomplishments and impacts they had on others and not just their self.
William Penn was known as a founder of Pennsylvania. He was also an English real estate
entrepreneur, philosopher, early Quaker, and founder of other places other than Pennsylvania. Penn

In 1677, two hundred settlers from Hertfordshire founded the town of Burlington. Although this is a
significant event, Penn wasn t with them. Instead he stayed in England because he had a project. He
drafted the charter of liberties, and he guaranteed free and fair trial by Jury, Freedom of religion,
freedom of unjust imprisonment, and free elections. In my opinion William Penn sounded like a very
well successful, educated man. The king at the time was Charles II of England. The king had a large
loan with Penn s father that settled things after Penn s father died. On March 4, 1681, Penn was given
a large area West and South of New Jersey by the king. William called this place Sylvania. In Latin
this word meant woods . I think this king was very understand and chose to make others happy while
doing his job to make sure the people knew he cared. Charles changed the founded place to
Pennsylvania in honor of William s father, but before that happened, Penn was the leading defender of
religious toleration in England. Being religious was a law. The king was glad to have discovered a
place for religious outsiders could come to such as other Quakers who wanted a different place to live
away from England. Penn wanted to do this to make peace with everyone so they re all welcomed and
invited. I think if a country went to war, we would be ok since we were trying to be allies with other
religious people from anywhere. Since the King was in England, William made the first county Bucks

History essay Using these four passages and your own knowledge, asses the view that Japan was driven into war with the western powers in 1941 by American policies. Both interpretations B and D prove that America was the only driving force that caused a war in the Pacific. The oil embargo that America enforced in 1940 was an incentive for Japan, a country very reliant on imports of which most primarily came from America feeding its daily usage of 12,000 tons of oil,to declare war on the country that was slowing its progress to conquer China. Interpretation B states that moderates and militants alike saw American pressure as provocative thus creating a tension in the Pacific, with the American foreign policy at the forefront of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However American concern for the safety of Asia would ultimately lead to a war in the Pacific and Japanese hostility was solely to blame. Interpretation D also shows Japan s aggression being sparked by American decisions. For example America, most of all, stood in the way stood in the way of this through their control of resources in South East Asia. America s grip on all vital resources in the Pacific would have driven Japan to war as it was the only alternative to stop America whilst still keeping control over China. The leading philosophies of the time, assumed that acquiring an empire provided the basis of prosperity and future national security. This on the other hand contradicts the interpretation as it presents Japan as an empire with clear instructions on how to achieve wealth through imperialism. This is shown throughout the passage where by the time the war in China began in 1937 politicians favouring expansionism were in high offices of state. America is no longer the only reason that war began as the views of the leaders in 1937 were evidently expansionist. Japan does not want any relations with America as in the eyes of Japan s leaders that would have entailed a colossal loss of prestige with incalculable internal consequences. Japan and the US both operated with an imperialist mindset, but Japan government had mishandled the position they found themselves in Overall this proves that Japan had their own ... He wrote much more substantial works, such as the Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livius, the Art of War, a History of Florence, and even some plays, poetry and biographical sketches. In many ways these other works were more representative of Machiavelli s ideas than The Prince. Secondly, it must be understood that Machiavelli s work was part of the political and national context of a Florentine Republic that is 500 years distant from twenty first century liberal democracy. Machiavelli s era was that of the Medici family, of naked conquest by military force, Machiavelli himself being imprisoned and tortured for his beliefs and associations, something that was not at all unusual in ... Another element of The Prince thought shocking by some commentators was Machiavelli s practical guide to the conquest of other states, a how to manual of maintaining control of foreign lands. Machiavelli recommended administering them either by devastating them totally, and living there in person, or by creating a local oligarchy loyal to your own power base. However, Machiavelli warned that whoever was responsible for creating someone else s system of power had actually ruined themselves, as the demonstrated mechanism of power creation had elevated the assistant into a potential challenger to the new ... He s capable of putting simple words in a verse and makes them have so much meaning just by the way he uses them. In the poem His Excuse for Loving, his use of diction, syntax, and tone are used in a way that lets the reader realize exactly what he means. Jonson s work in this poem is quite simple, but says so much. He expresses exactly how he feels towards his loved one with the use of certain words that tie everything together. The language in the poem seems to be somewhat plain. Although it is plain, the author, Jonson, still manages to put some dazzle inside what is plain. He says his age does not affect his love, but doesn t go into a sad tone. He simply stays serious as he was in the beginning. Therefore, the poem is not affected by tonal shifts, leaving a clear understanding. Jonson creates the tone of formal or serious by just expressing himself in a behaved manner. Symptoms following acute exposure include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and chest pain Symptoms following long term exposure include cerebral edema (buildup of excessive fluid causing swelling in the brain), convulsions (seizures), and difficulty in breathing and coordinating. Ligand is an ion or molecule which bonds to the central atom or ion of a compound. Pi backbonding for carbon monoxide is heavily depended on the fact that the carbon in carbon monoxide has a negative formal charge thus when it bonds with the Fe+2 ion, the negative charge is relieved. Since the formal charges on the oxygen atoms in an oxygen molecules are zero, this makes oxygen an inferior ligand in comparison to carbon monoxide which is a superior ligand. Due to the formal charges of oxygen, pi backbonding plays a very minor role in the bonding of oxygen to hemoglobin thus making the bond substantially weaker than that of carbon monoxide and hemoglobin. Essentially, our bodies inability to break the bond between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is what makes it poisonous as it prevents oxygen from functioning in its optimal manner. The only known biological process that produces carbon monoxide is when the enzyme Heme Oxygenase is used to catalyze the breakdown of the heme group in hemoglobin. The next argument that Greeley makes is that young couples are taught not to have physical relations with each other until marriage. They are taught that they can only hold hands and can only have quick kisses. Then when they do get married, they are expected to, leap from a relationship in which there was no expressed passion to one in which passion was totally expressed within the space of twenty four hours . • 29. Animal Testing For The Sole Benefit Of Humans For years, there has been a debate regarding the use of animals in medical testing for the sole benefit of humans. Many people believe that testing on nonhuman animals solve the many issues that humans face, but most of the time animals are exploited and put through painful experimental processes. The purpose of this paper is to examine the possible alternatives to animal testing and the evaluate whether there is a reduction in animals being used for experiments. The author of this paper will examine four journal articles titled as the following: Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics of Alternatives, Scientists and Animal Research: Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?, Strategic Focus on 3R Principles Reveals Major Reductions in the Use of Animals in Pharmaceutical Toxicity Testing, No Animals Harmed: Toward a Paradigm Shift in Toxicity Testing. Each journal article highlights different arguments of the said problem and reveals information about animal testing that many may not be aware of. The author will summarize all four journal articles and apply a response to each one. Joel Marks, the writer of the Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics of Alternatives journal, aims to express the reason why alternatives to animal testing should not be considered. Marks (2012) starts out by stating that it is common to argue that animal experimentation is justified by its essential contribution to the advancement of medical science (p. 1). According to Marks, this argument contains an empirical claim that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Thomas Gage And His Impact On The Revolutionary War Essay Thomas Gage and His Impact on the Revolutionary War Matt Thompson Mountain View High School Back in 1774 Thomas Gage had a job that no one would envy. He would be tasked with stemming the tide of a rebellion in the colonies of North America. Many considered him the protagonist of the English cause in the Revolutionary war. Tensions were rising and Gage had just been appointed Military Governor of Massachusetts. With this title, he would effectively be the most powerful British official in the 13 Colonies. Gage had control over military, political, and diplomatic decisions (Britannica, 2015). When relations turned sour between the American colonies and their mother country, people looked to Gage to make it right. Gage was unable to take the necessary actions to prevent the war and ended up being a driving factor in the American Revolution. In the beginning of Gage s time serving in the military and the start of his tenure as Military Governor he was fairly well liked. Gage had fought in the French and Indian War after fighting a handful of battles in Europe. He joined the military in 1741 and came to America in 1754 (Walsh, 2013). As he served his country he began to move his way up the ranks of the British Army. It was in 1763 that he reached the precipice of his military career, becoming Commander in Chief of all British forces in North America. Just a few years after being appointed Governor of Montreal, he was now the most important and influential man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term Beat or Beatnic refers to the spontaneous and wandering way of life for some people during the period of postwar America, that seemed to be induced by jazz and drug induced visions. On the Road was one such experience of Beatnic lifestyle through the eyes and heart of Jack Kerouac. It was a time when America was rebuilding after WW I. Cassady is the cowboy crashing , is a most accurate example of American society s fascination with the cowboy lifestyle and how it eventually dwindled. Karouac describes these places and their short adventures, in a very different but detailed manner according to his perspective. Some lavish and fun, some corrupt and dangerous, but all very interesting. It describes the environment of several locations throughout the nation during this period of postwar America with great accuracy. This is a fantastic, documentary type novel that will leave the reader considerably more informed about what was happening in society during that era along with a better understanding of why so many people were drawn to the search of a new frontier.Although they referred to their journeys as spiritual , Karouac had a difficult time convincing his critics of such a description. Though they rushed back and forth across the country on the slightest whim, getting their kicks along the way, their real journey was toward self realization and inner understanding. They seemed to cross most boundaries, legal and moral, but it was only in hopes of finding a belief on the other side. On the Road could be considered an American classic along with such books as Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn , and Scott Fitzgeralds s The Great Gatsby . These are great novels ... The Rise And Fall Of Troy Maxon The Rise and Fall of Troy Maxon: An Analysis of August Wilson s play Fences In Fences, August Wilson, the playwright, provides a believable and powerful examination of the African American experience in the late 1950 s. It provides an apt portrayal of the mentality of African American men going into the civil rights movement, as well as a well developed account of the friction that occurs between a father and a son, and a husband and wife in the face of conflict. According to Wilson, his play provides Caucasians with a view into an African Americans life to find similarities to their own (Kennedy and Gioia 1883). Not only did Wilson accomplish this, but also provided a representation of interfamily relationships that occurs in many cultures. For instance, Katz maintains that the father son relationship contains ... inherent seeds of conflict (Katz). The relationship between Cory and Troy mirrors the conflict between many young men and their fathers as they attempt to create their identity and independence while the fathers are still attempting to shape their future based on their experiences, creating conflict that transcends differences in race and culture. • 39. Nikiforov Alternate Ending Life is an unrehearsed play, always on its opening night. No ones know their lines, entrances, anything. There isn t even a director. You just have to wing it. Chapter 1: Where did he come from? Where did he go? It was a chilly evening in mid September when Victor Nikiforov life became unscripted. Unraveled, every synonym of that. It started when he pulled into the packed parking lot. One parking space was left. The two people parked beside him did not have the proper education for how to park. How are these hooligans allowed to have a car? Victor got out of his vehicle and looked up. A sleek grey skyscraper stood, dominating the area. A fountain placed in the middle of the lot shot up synchronous streams of water accented by green light. He strolled around it and went into the building through the large revolving doors. The lobby was spacious, the stark grey floor had a glossy sheen. Accordingly, the coaches were light grey with lime green pillows. Sconches lined the wall, giving the room a lime coloured glow. The designers of the building were quite fond of the colour lime green. A young woman sat in a semi circle shaped desk. Her auburn hair was tied into a bun. She was looking down at her computer. She raised her head. Good Evening, Welcome to (idk something round I guess) Can I have a name? She asked. Victor Nikiforov, he said. She scrolled on her desktop. In my opinion William Penn sounded like a very well successful, educated man. The king at the time was Charles II of England. The king had a large loan with Penn s father that settled things after Penn s father died. On March 4, 1681, Penn was given a large area West and South of New Jersey by the king. William called this place Sylvania. In Latin this word meant woods . I think this king was very understand and chose to make others happy while doing his job to make sure the people knew he cared. Charles changed the founded place to Pennsylvania in honor of William s father, but before that happened, Penn was the leading defender of religious toleration in England. Being religious was a law. The king was glad to have discovered a place for religious outsiders could come to such as other Quakers who wanted a different place to live away from England. Penn wanted to do this to make peace with everyone so they re all welcomed and invited. I think if a country went to war, we would be ok since we were trying to be allies with other religious people from anywhere. Since the King was in England, William made the first county Bucks County, named after Buckinghamshire in England. As Pennsylvania grew most of Penn s family migrated there, and it was welcomed for any other people to settle there. William wrote to the Indians to make peace between them, but he didn t want to acknowledge them wrong.
