Christian History And The Holy Spirit Essay
Christian history is active and alive as the Holy Spirit works in and amongst the community of
Christians who comprise the Church. Similar to the recording of history in the first century by Luke in
the Acts of the Apostles, Christian history is still being written today. Specifically, as Evangelical
Christians, we write the story of history each day as we work to fulfill the Great Commission
(Matthew 28:16 20) through application of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 37 40). As such,
we soon realize that we are not casual observers or bystanders of history, but actual participants. In
other words, we have a responsibility to both understand and interpret the past and then apply the faith
we hold amongst the generation and peoples of the here and now.
As we obediently apply God s word to, go therefore and make disciples of all nations and to love God
and to love your neighbor as yourself, we should awaken to the key terms of all nations and your
neighbor. It is with this realization that our neighbors, in the communities in which we live, literally
represent the nations of the world. In other words, in the modern world in which we live, changes in
demographics, world events, and movements of people have literally brought the nations of the world
to our front door. As such, we have a great opportunity to open these doors, which turn opens the door
to the gospel to the nations of the world.
Washington State in general and the South Puget Sound Region in particular are

Ali Hale Writing Process Analysis
In this week s article, the author, Ali Hale wrote about the five steps of the writing process. These
steps includes prewriting, writing, revising, editing and publishing. Prewriting is the first step of the
writing process, this step allows the writer to form ideas and write them down. Once they get an idea
of what to write, they can either brainstorm or free write. Brainstorm means writing down any ideas
that comes to mind on a piece of paper with the main idea in the center. These ideas can be subtopics
or directions to the article. On the other hand, free write is when the writer starts writing their ideas
down about the topic and not worry about grammar, spelling and punctuations. After the writer is done
they can decide on what is

The Confederate Flag And Its Racist
One of the most trending topics in America right now is the Confederate Flag and whether or not it s
racist. 42 percent think the flag represent southern heritage and the other 42 percent think it s racist
and should be taken down. 75 percent believe it s racist and only one in ten will agree that it is
southern heritage. Depending on what region is asked about if it is racist, there are different answers.
The Midwest say it is racist and the south, of course, say it s not racist. A poll showed that African
Americans, Democrats, and the highly educated were more likely to perceive the flag negatively. The
Confederate States of America came into existence on February 4, 1861. It had six states at first and
they were the Deep South. Those states were South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Alabama
and Louisiana. After April 1861 four upper south states joined. They were Virginia, North Carolina,
Tennessee, and Arkansas. They made they re own court system and congress. It reflected a lot of the
American government. The confederate flag should be taken down because it is a symbol of hate,
rebellion and racism.
The first reason the Confederate flag should be taken down is because it is a symbol of hate. More
than 620,000 Americans lost their lives at the hands of other Americans. Nearly equal to the total
number of American deaths in all other wars combined. The fight for freedom for enslaved Black
Americans, or for the Confederates of the South, the fight against

Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall
The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s Town Hall. The
Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was
primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and
from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the
Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but
was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing
building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse.
Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century
town halls . Unlike the Uffizi, the Town Hall, only had authority over the local area and people.
However this allowed them to have more control over people s daily lives. The Uffizi, Florence (2016)

They were both used to house political officials who governed over their respective areas. However
they both controlled very different amounts of land and people. 16th century Florence had a stable
population of about 70,000. However Liverpool had a growing population. In 1750 when the building
was originally under construction, Liverpool only had a population of 20,000. By 1801, when the
town hall was extended Liverpool had a population of 77,000 people, however 20 years later the
population had reached 118,000. In the following essay I will compare the similarities and differences
between the Uffizi and the Liverpool town Hall. I will explore how both buildings attempted to
demonstrate their importance within society through the use of materials and decorations, as well as

A Christian World-Wide Council Analysis
On July 4th 325 A.D, an estimate of 320 Christian bishops and deacons met in the Bithynian city of
Nicaea, now known as Iznik, Bursa province Turkey to discuss the creation of a world wide council in
which would represent the Christian Church.
Constantine the great (St Constantine), whom was a Roman Emperor from 306 A.D. to 337 A.D.
called upon this influential gathering in hopes that it would solve the disputed point of arianism, a
notion proposed by Arius of Alexandria, a Christian presbyter, was the belief that Jesus Christ was
immortal as he was born from human flesh and died therefore signifying that he was not divine and
inferior to God the Father which theoretically goes against the idea that the word became flesh. John 1

Creationism And Evolution Of School
Creationism and Evolution in school Almost every child has to go to school at some point in his or her
life. The legal age is between six and fifteen years old. Whether it is home school, private school,
public school, or any other way of being taught, it is a law that you have to attend school until you are
sixteen. (Queensland Para 1) That is, unless you can prove to the State Department of Education that
you should not be in school. What is taught in school applies to almost all Americans and applied to
almost all of Americans in their school career. That is whether they are still in school or they have
been out of school for a very long time. Parents need to take action and show their kids in general that

Creationism has undeniable facts. Many think it should be taught and at least be given a fair chance to
be put up against evolution. Evolution also has some true undeniable facts as well. As we learn more
and more every day, those facts tend to change though, unlike creationism which has stayed the same
since the beginning of time.
It is unfair that something is being taught without even being put into question or put up to another
opinion of why the Earth is here and how it got here. An example could be that in school, teachers
should not teach you about what political party they agree with and why that party is right. They
should be talking about both parties and giving both sides of the story and saying why they disagree.
This would show that they want you to be nonbiased and try to let you pick for yourself instead of
pushing you to side with their opinions. It is not right to only teach children, or anybody for that
matter only one view of an argument. Both sides should be taught in a way that is the least biased and
let the kids decide for themselves what is right or wrong. Whatever they choose, we need to support
them even if it is against what we believe. The most important thing we can do for our kids is to teach
them to think for themselves. But we cannot do that if we only give one side of the story, so they of

Why Is Mark Twain Successful
In river boating, the phrase, Mark Twain, was used to ensure the safety of traveling through the water.
However, nowadays, the phrase associates more with the acclaimed author of classics such as The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: the father of American literature
himself, Mark Twain. Long before his fame and success, Twain went simply by the name of Sam
Clemens. Before fame, he devoted his days to learning the ways of the Mississippi River s and was on
his way to become a respected steamboating pilot. And so, it was there where he heard, for the first
time, the eventual, and one day, historical, pen name: Mark Twain. During his time on the Mississippi,
Twain grew to love the river and all of its constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also known to sleepwalk and had a delicate health that brought the Clemens trepidation, as
well as frequent doctor visits that required a decent pay. At one point, Sam had contracted the measles
and fell deathly ill. In his autobiography, Twain recalls the event rather pleased with the outcome: I
have never enjoyed anything in my life any more than I enjoyed dying that time....The word had been
passed and the family notified to assemble around the bed and see me off. I knew them all....They
were all crying, but that did not affect me. I took but the vaguest interest in it and that merely because
I was the center of all this emotional attention and was gratified by it and vain of it (twainquotes.com).

Military Leadership
Military leadership theory brings forth the discovery of many ideas regarding the application of
knowledge from a military background in a business environment. Much information was premised on
business owners, managers and employees working collectively, how to improve communication
skills, and how to define a goal and motivate others to follow it based on military leadership. The
connection between these two worlds of business and military is apparent. Many of today s companies
derive their structure and leadership model from that which is applied in the army. The military
typically has a main leader or a decision maker, who transmits orders to subordinates at lower levels.
This model is almost identical to what is seen in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are plenty of people who possess the personality traits associated with leadership, yet many of
these people never seek out positions of leadership (Wheeler, 2000). Behavioral Theory This theory is
based on the idea that a person is not born a leader, but that a person becomes a leader through self
development and learning. It focuses not on mental qualities or internal states, but on the actions and
behaviors of leaders. According to this theory, people can learn to become leaders through teaching
and observation (Wheeler, 2000). One can conclude that it is the converse of the Great Man theory.
Contingency Theory According to this theory, there is not a leadership style that would be best in all
situations. Contingency theory of leadership focuses on particular variables related to the environment
that might determine which particular style of leadership is best suited for the situation. If the leader is
highly effective in one situation, he or she may not necessarily be effective in another. Success
depends upon a number of variables, including qualities of the followers, the leadership style or
aspects of the situation (Wheeler, 2000). Situational Theory This theory states that situational factors,
rather than skills of leader, determine the effectiveness of leadership. Situational theories propose that
leaders choose the best course of action based upon situational variables. Different styles of leadership
are needed

Software And Software Based Systems Testing
Introduction Software and software based systems testing is a technical discipline of systems
engineering. The purpose of software and software based systems testing is to help the development
organization build quality into the software and system during the life cycle processes and to validate
that the quality was achieved. The test process determines whether the products of a given life cycle
activity conform to the requirements of that activity, and whether the product satisfies its intended use
and user needs. This determination can include inspection, demonstration, analysis, and testing of
software and software based system products. Test activities are performed in parallel with software
and system development, not just at the conclusion of the development effort. IEEE 829 supports all
software life cycle processes, including acquisition, supply, development, operation, and maintenance.
This standard is compatible with all life cycle models. Not all life cycle models use all of the life cycle
processes listed in this standard. System and software test processes determine whether the outcomes
of a given activity conform to the requirements of that activity and whether the development product
satisfies its intended use and user needs. The determination may include analysis, demonstration,
inspection, and testing of software products. The user of this standard may invoke those software life
cycle processes and the associated test processes that apply to the project.

The Ethical Considerations Of Ethics
Ethical Considerations
Ethics is one of the most important considerations when making a decision about end of life. It is also
where the most controversy lies as arguments, using ethical theories, can be made for and against laws
on end of life. Ethics has at least two primary functions: to guide our actions, and to provide
justification for the guidance given (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p. 42). A duty oriented ethicist would be
against euthanasia and physician assisted death. They believe we can t stop all pain; what is crucial is
that we act with dignity and respect in the face of suffering (Edge Groves, 2006, p.40). Kant s view is
a person committing suicide takes the easy way out, where reason would dictate he or she face their
problems (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p.38). Virtue ethicists would also be against euthanasia and
physician assisted death. Virtue ethicists hold it is not only important to do the right thing but equally
to have the right disposition, motivation, and traits for being good and doing right (Edge Groves,
2006, p.43). As a believer in God, a virtue ethicist would hold suicide as an unreasonable option. They
would believe God to be the sole arbiter of life and death (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p.42) and therefore,
the right thing to do would be for God to end their life as he sees fit.
Contrary to these points is the belief in the protection of individual autonomy. Autonomy, as defined
by Edge Groves (2006), is the freedom to choose

The Cold Of Cold Calling
Cold calling is a bit of a dirty word in the sales world. Most individuals you interview hate receiving
cold calls, whilst even the sales representatives have a dislike for the practice. Yet, it remains an
important strategy for many companies and it has the potential to provide plenty of benefits to a
business if only conducted properly.
This guide will look at what cold calling is all about, the reason it has a bad name and the advantages
it has for businesses. You ll learn about the core buildings blocks of a cold calling strategy and the
keys to a good call.
What is cold calling all about?
The practice of cold calling refers to a situation where a business contacts potential customers without
their anticipation of such an interaction. It is essentially a technique where the business approaches
individuals without knowledge that they are interested.
You shouldn t confuse it with the opposite practice of warm calling, where the business has prior
knowledge to suggest to person contacted is interested in the product. Cold calling can sometimes also
be mistakenly identified as telemarketing. Whilst cold calling is a form of telemarketing,
telemarketing is not limited to using cold calling as a strategy. In telemarketing, there is often prior
research involved and it often includes further call ups with the individual or business.
Cold calling strategies typically refer to phone calls, but cold calling can also entail different methods.
For example, drop in visits can

Meaning Of Tupac Shakur
What does a reputation mean?
As defined by the Cambridge dictionary, reputation is the opinion that people in general have about
someone or something or how much respect and admiration someone or something receives based on
past behavior and character.
Based on this explanation, we realize that each individual is responsible for shaping his own
reputation, either purposely similar to what many politicians do or naturally by his actions, good ones
or bad ones. But an established reputation is not always uniform, meaning it opens a debate about a
certain person, action or event. That s the case of the most famous rapper of all time Tupac Shakur.

This song comprises of three verses and centers about relationships that sees as unbreakable. Tupac
makes a societal commentary by exploring various types of interpersonal bond. In the first verse, he
recounts numerous conversations with his family again expressing his love and gratitude for his
mother. Although he is ashamed of the burden he senses that he has caused she greets him with open
arms as they recognize nothing matters as long as they remain close. The next verse approaches
relationships between young black men from the ghetto. Tupac acknowledges that making money to
support his family makes up for a large part of his relationships and ambitions, but he doesn t forget to
approach the emotional side. As he feels that the bond he shares with his friends is a treasure thanks to
the emotional support these men provide for one another. And while it may seem that they are
connected by gangster life, what connects them is their common desire for a better life. The final verse
revolves around his relationship with a female friend. In this verse Tupac speaks greatly about love,
but remarkably within the context of this song, never in a sexual sense as he clearly delineates
between sexual attraction and emotional bonds. This song is at its very heart universal, given that
everybody in this world has experienced one or all of the relationships that Tupac

Definition Essay On Trust
Trust has multiple definitions, but when I think about trust, always coming through, and being
trustworthy are the first ideas that come to mind. Most importantly, Trust can be defined as someone
you can tell anything to. You can have trust with your family, friends and relatives. People may see
trust differently based on past experiences or events. For example, someone who has trustworthy
friends who tends to keep secret information secret, might view trust positively. But, someone who
has friends that can t keep secrets, and tells everything they hear might view trust in a negative way.
Therefore, I believe that trust had many different view and definitions which are a lot different than

There are many different form of trust that can expand our expectations and deepen our views. The
trust you have with your parents may be very similar for the trust you have with your siblings. As a
young child you mainly only trust your parents, who provides you with food, shelter, clothing and
extra wants. As a child you are helpless, leaving your trust in your parents, to provide you with basic
needs to be healthy, is what I believe the child s first trust instinct is. Next, as you get older and begin
play with your siblings, you start to rely on them to keep you safe. You trust that they will keep you
out of the street, when you are playing in the front yard or not let you get lost in the grocery store
while your parents are shopping. You trust your siblings just as much as your parents to provide you
with safety, fun and needs. Then, you experience trust with your friends. This can be shown by relying
on each other, keeping each other safe and believing that they will be there for you when you need it
most. As you grow older, trust grows to new expectations forcing you to constantly learn. The
different types of trust we experiences teaches us different life lessons that stays with us forever.
Throughout our lives, everyone wants to be trusted and experience trust with someone

Government And The Moral And Metaphysical Implications Of...
Over the length of this course, we have discussed several aspects of politics. We have studied
citizenship and obligations to society as a citizen, justice and what it means to us as individuals, and
how to go about enacting change within a community and around the world. Some of the most
important topics from this class included the characteristics, duties, and obligations of rulers of
government. In addition to the concept of rulers, we also studied the notion of authority and the moral
and metaphysical implications of authority to individuals autonomy. Within each concept of study, we
read works from many authors with conflicting ontologies, constructed from their differing views on
human nature.
Within the study of rulers, we read differing views from five different authors. The first author, Plato,
wrote in his book, The Republic, that there are different levels of understanding the world. The lowest
level of understanding, he said, was when someone could see the shadow of the image, then above
that level of understanding was to understand the images themselves. That level consisted of most of
the people within a society. A select view could understand the next level; scientific manifestations of
objects. Finally, the highest level of understanding was known as understanding the pure forms. Plato
wrote that whoever understood the pure forms of the world was fit to be the ruler, which he called the
philosopher king. He believed this philosopher king would guide the

Heritage And Selfishness In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Everyday Use is a short story written by Alice Walker that tells the story of two sisters that choose
diverse lifestyles that cause them to view heritage differently. Walker portrays two characters whose
views on heritage contrast each other. Dee is a woman who bases her views on material items and
other people s opinions. Maggie, on the other hand, is a humble, down home woman that creates her
own perspective of heritage. Because these characters go down different paths, there is a disparity
between what they think heritage actually is. This allows Walker to develop the differences between
Dee and Maggie through indirect characterization. Dee manifests the characteristic of selfish

As a result of her lack of knowing what heritage really is, she thinks that the quilts will bring her
closer to her culture. Dee s absence of knowledge of what heritage actually is heritage and her
selfishness is shown through her actions and interactions. In contrast to Dee s selfishness, Maggie
proves herself to be a selfless woman through her considerate actions and feelings. Though Maggie
has never been shown the type of love her sister has, her actions are kind and compassionate when she
tries to read to her mother. Maggie, who is not a very skillful reader herself, attempts to read to her
illiterate mother. The author reads, Sometimes Maggie reads to me. She stumbles along good
naturedly but can t see well. She knew she wasn t very bright (Walker 53). Though Mama has never
shown Maggie affection quite like she has Dee, Maggie still tries to read to her even though she is not
a proficient reader. Unlike her selfish sister, Maggie selflessly puts the needs of others before her own
and her actions verify her benevolence. Furthermore, even after Maggie s mom continues to show
more affection to Dee,she continues to show compassion through her feelings about a quilt Dee is
trying to take away from Maggie. The author writes, She can have them Mama, she said, like
somebody used to never winning anything, or having anything reserved for her. I can remember

The Cause And Effects Of Procrastination Causes Stress

Procrastination Causes Stress
It has happened to the best of us, we push back doing our work and then all of a sudden it s due
tomorrow. Procrastination is no stranger to today s culture in time management. There are other kinds
of actions that cause the delay of time. For example scheduling task A to a later time because task B is
more important is not an act of procrastinating but more of an act of priority. The act of
procrastination always refers to a negative act that reduces performance and quality of work. This
however is a stereotype and might not be true. Procrastination is mainly caused by personality and
mental state and can affect the procrastinator s performance and health. People love to push their
planned date to do their work further back, but that only causes more stress on them. Some people
have the habit of procrastination and some people simply do not. Procrastination is associated with
feelings of frustration, regret, despair, and even self blame(Akademiai Kiado). Procrastination can
come from a fear of not succeeding. There is a term for this, Kakorrhaphiophobia which is the fear of
failure(Merriam Webster). Kakorrhaphiophobia may be caused by previous experience of the
procrastinator that created such a traumatic effect that causes the procrastinator avoid certain task and
push it as late as possible in order to prevent the repetition of the same experience. As an individual s
standard increases, the possibility of failure also increases thus increasing the fear of failure. There are
three kinds of procrastination which are self perfectionism, where we expect a certain standard for
ourselves. Also an other perfectionism, where we set a standard for others. There is also a socially
prescribed perfectionism where we think others have set a standard for us. People with low self esteem
often underestimate themselves and will not achieve their full potential which causes a rise in the rate
of failure. This causes an increase of fear of failure and fear of not achieving perfection. Many do not
realize but their confidence in getting the task done may be affecting their reactions towards doing the
task. The mental state of an

The Disguise And Trickery Dionysus In Euripides
This play written by Euripides has several little main ideas throughout but one of the main ones that I
am going to focus on is the disguise and trickery Dionysus is able to perform to get what he wants.
Throughout the play Dionysus never got the respect that he felt that he deserved from the other gods.
The reason that Dionysus received no respect is because he is mortal; his mother who was a mortal
gave birth to him by a god, so in the world they are living in this makes him equal to the humans not
the gods. Because Dionysus was both Greek and Asiatic, along with being part god and part human
this made him a very diverse being. Dionysus soon realized though that he could use this to his own
advantage, he could easily be disguised as a

From the reason of this feature of detective film is because of the detector as a male dominated career,
the first detective woman only appeared on the police force in the UK in 1914, Philippa (a, 2011). This
situation has reflected in the film, especially in Hollywood Film industry, as Kathleen (2014) in
Overlooking the evidence demonstrated that female detective or the lady crime solver poses a problem
throughout Hollywood film and television. Moreover, most of the detective films are based on the
fiction, Philippa (b, 2011). Especially for the classic male detector of nineteenth century fiction has
used in the well known classic film such as Sherlock Holmes (1903). As William stated in his book
The detective in film (1972), the Sherlock Holmes film series which produced by different companies
become the foundation and mainstream narrative of a detective film. These are the iconic image of
detective and still activated today. Therefore, the use of traditional detective fiction as a script is
another reason why the detective film is male dominated. However, besides the Sherlock Holmes,
women detectors tend to use some distinctive methods to appear in the detective movies that are
different from the detective figure. From the sexuality side, in the early years of women detective
films, although they use female characters as the main detector, they are too old or young to solve

Analysis Of Emerson s Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the mid nineteenth century, Ralph Waldo Emerson led a movement to spread the idea of
Transcendentalism through one of his famous essay, Self Reliance , to advocate how an individual can
achieve success and happiness. In order to achieve one s fullest potential, one must resisted and rise
above the temptation of materials of the physical world and start using one s intuition. Emerson looks
at the contemporary society as a corrupted for a soul to inhabit because of its dependence to the
technology, intolerable cultural ideas, and economic issues. One issue that Emerson disapproved of is
the society s reliance on technology. In the modern days, young teens and also adults are too attached

the best way to satisfy their need is having a lot of money. However, Emerson s view on this matter is

21). In order to get rich, a person must work very hard to pile up his pocket. However, with the
amount of the work, he will not have a chance to enjoy his money. Also , even though he has chance
to use his money, he can buy all the stuff he wants, but he will never be satisfied. With the huge load

Haemolysis Test Lab Report
To find the first unknown bacteria, the microbiology student started by inoculating a sample on a slide
to stain with Gram s stain; resulting a gram positive cocci. He continued by looking at the
dichotomous key in the Lab Manual, afterwards doing a catalase test on an inoculated slide to
differentiate it from being either a Streptococcus or a Staphylococcus (2). He then put the hydrogen
peroxide on the inoculated slide, it immediately reacts, resulting on an excessive bubbling reaction,
concluding that the Gram positive species is catalase positive. He now had to inoculate a sample of the
bacteria to a 10% salt agar media to determine whether it is a Staphylococcus or a Micrococcus. After
inoculating and incubating at 37°C for two days, it resulted with substantial growth. This indicates that
the unknown Gram positive bacteria s genus is a Staphylococcus. Following up, the microbiology
student needed to determine whether it of the species aureus, saprophyticus, or epidermidis based on
the selected characteristics table for staphylococcus (2). He conducted a hemolysis test on a thawed
plasma plate; resulting in a β hemolysis, a complete lysis of red blood cells. This test ... Show more

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women s Career Advancement
According to Feistritzer s research (as cited in Bynum, 2015), there has been a disproportionate
representation of women in education at the highest positions of education leadership , especially in
comparison to the number who begin their careers as teachers. Although the number of women in
management and administrative positions has increased, the majority of senior positions are still held
by men. The lack of women role models in academic departments and barriers women face in
acquiring leadership roles can be contributed to male oriented organizational expectations. Research
has shown that mentoring can significantly enhance the salary and promotion possibilities for women
experiencing these types of situations. In academia, mentoring awareness can reduce barriers to
women s career advancement, tenure and pay (Cullen Luna, 1993). Reddick (as cited in Gamble
Turner, 2015) believes that the efforts diversifying and including women in the ranks of tenured
faculty positions have not made much process towards fulfillment. Women must seek mentorship
early in their careers; have diversity among their mentors; and share experiences with other female
faculty. As an African American female at a Historical Black University (HBCU), the importance of
acquiring mentorship to become successful in the academia arena is tantamount. As a junior faculty,
there was constant reminders of faculty being dismissed from the university because they were not
granted tenure, in addition to

Gideon V. Wainwright Case Study
In the 1963 decision of Gideon v. Wainwright, the court sought to establish the guarantee of a fair trial
before impartial tribunals in which every defendant stands equal before the law. Gideon v.
Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335, 344 (1963). In Gideon, the court announced a right to counsel in criminal
cases. Id. However, this decision only extended to criminal cases and left civil litigants waiting for
their own Gideon decision. Fifty five years later, and there is still no universal right to counsel in civil
cases. The Supreme Court has failed to utilize opportunities to make a ruling similar to Gideon in civil
cases, despite the presence of similar issues. In Lassiter v. Dept. of Soc. Services, the court held that
indigent litigants only had a right to appointed counsel when they risk losing their physical liberty .
Lassiter v. Dept. of Soc. Services, 452 U.S. 18, 23 (1981). In other words, absent a threat of
incarceration or extreme circumstances, there is not right to counsel. Lee Shevell, Civil Gideon: The
Poor Man s Fight, 16 Public Interest Law Reporter 32 37 (2010). The injustice of incarcerating a
defendant that was tried and convicted without the representation of an attorney is an obvious truth.
Gideon, 372 U.S. 344. Yet, isn t there truth to the shocking injustice of leaving the poor and most
vulnerable without representation for legal issues regarding basic needs such as shelter, food, safety,
family and health? The decision in Gideon stressed that a criminal conviction, stripping an individual
of their liberty, without the representation of counsel was a grave injustice that violated the dues
process clause. The poor are denied due process, suffering a loss liberty and justice because they
cannot afford legal representation. In some cases, the loss is just as great if not greater than being
convicted of a crime or imprisoned. Kathryn Grant Madigan, Advocating for a Civil Right to Counsel

102 Year Old Time Capsule Research Paper
On July 1st, 2017 workers in St.Louis were taking down a monument and while doing that they

all the technology and new gadgets. For me, fashion, FADS, and technology would best describe what
life was like in the 2000 s. To best describe what our generation was like fashion, technology, and
FADS should be placed in a time capsule. For example, one of the fashion trends in 2016 mostly

Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious
After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it a
glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I have
personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited interactions
I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I asked my
girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available after
removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent movie
that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she saw the
movie several years ago, she recalled that the film evoked many strong emotional responses which
made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision of which
movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced a wide range
of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example, I was frustrated
when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home and informed both
of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling her stupid, asking if she
thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was frustrated when the mother
forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s dinner

The Geology Behind Tsunami Waves
Tsunamis: the Geology Behind the Deadly Wave Tsunamis are damaging natural disasters that are
universally feared. Nature can be one of the entities that terrifies humans the most. These disastrous
tsunamis can be caused by many different situations. Geology is closely connected to the production
of tsunamis and their occurrences. It is also a useful tool in identifying the causes of tsunamis in
ancient times. All tsunamis are tied to rocks and minerals, which cause earthquakes. When the ocean
floor moves, water is thrust upward, thus causing a tsunami. These giant waves of destruction are
caused by volcanoes, earthquakes, and underwater landslides. Earthquakes are more common in the
causing of tsunamis than any other cause. Some notable tsunamis throughout history are the Mt. Etna

These deposits are sedimentary and are left behind when the tsunami pulls back out to sea. These
deposits can often be found in lagoons just off the coastline. The sediments are fine grained.
Sometimes boulders can be used to identify past tsunamis but this is not a reliable approach due to
cyclones and other natural disasters having the same ability of boulder movement. These deposits help
scientists to uncover the truths about the pasts and even determine the magnitude of a historical
earthquake. There was an earthquake in 869 in Sendai and Honshu called the Sanriku earthquake. The
scientists were able to uncover facts about the earthquake due to the sediments left behind from the
resulting tsunami. The term used to describe these scientists and their profession is Palesoseismology.
They look at sediments and rocks and observe them. Using the observations, they uncover the truth of
ancient earthquakes in the past. This is helpful to inform people of seismic hazard and to prevent
widespread damage. If there has been an earthquake previously then there is likely to be one again.

Research Paper On Juvenile Delinquency
What is a Juvenile? A juvenile is a person who has not reached his or her 18th birthday. Juvenile
delinquency is the violation of a law of the United States committed by a person prior to reaching 18
years of age, which would have been a crime committed by an adult (office). There are many
residential programs put in place all over the country to help these youths that are coming in and out
of the Criminal Justice system. Once these Juveniles come out of jail, or get released on bond, they
sometimes do not have a stable place to go to and live. As these youths are leaving the jail facility
there are a wide variety of residential programs to help them get back on their feet. These residential
programs include Out of home placement in an institutional or camp like setting, or they might be
eligible for an alternative placement, such a community confinement. (programs)
Statistics shows that in 1999, nearly one in every 4 adjudicated delinquency cases resulted in out of
home placement for the juvenile. Placement cases have grown by almost 24 percent in less than 10
years, from 124,900 in 1990 to 155,200 in 1999. However, this statistic might be a bit old, recent
statistics shows that there has been a steep decline in the number of juveniles going into placement
programs. In 2006, there were about 93,000 juveniles in residential placement, and by 2008 there were
just over 86,000 in public or private residential placement facilities. There is yet to be an exact reason

Midsummer Night Dream Creative Response Essay
The creative response I have written is a modern parody adaption of act two, scene two and act three,
scene two. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of
balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the
romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a
magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances.
My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these
couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that
the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean
that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that
represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in
the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the
letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original
Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the
original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the
letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. My adaption is

Gimpel
The Difference Between Gimpel and Society Today When wronged or made a fool of, people today
tend to recoil, and pounce back with vengeful hearts. It is the attitude and character of society to hate
those who wrong them and rid their hearts of trust afterwards. When comparing and contrasting the
character of Gimpel and the character of society today, the intent and full meaning of the short story,
Gimpel the Fool, is shown to the readers. Gimpel is portrayed as someone who is easily misled and
would believe most anything told to him. In this story, Isaac Bashevis Singer is revealing the
vindictive hearts and attitudes of people by showing us the forgiving heart of Gimpel the Fool. The
reward and happiness Gimpel receives in return for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the major contrasts between the two is seen in the concept of revenge and forgiveness. It is the
nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only ends up
making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Shakespeare
said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not
die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought revenge was as normal
and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs greatly from this vengeful
human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people are entitled to mistakes. An example
of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated. Gimpel had found her lying with another man
and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was
pondering upon this predicament, he said to himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You
cannot live without errors. Probably that lad who was with her led her on and gave her presents and
what not, and women are often long on hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer,
Isaac). Gimpel chose to be forgiving, instead of seeking revenge. This is far from the natural reply of
mankind. Singer reveals the need for forgiveness by showing this immense contrast

Design Strategy For A Skywalk At The Royal Oak Campus
ABSTRACT The design strategy for a skywalk at the Royal Oak Campus entails the use of ramps and
steps rising to 5 meters and ramps having a gradient of 1:10.The skywalk will link the faculty parking
and the college with a 3metres wide ramp,5 meters wide steps and a slab width of 6500 meters
500metres above the ground level with a building line on each side of 6 meters. Pedestrians and
cyclists will use the proposed Skywalk it will be situated to allow pedestrians to cross Washington
Avenue because there are no nearby roads to necessitate a road for access. This will let pedestrians
cross safely without slowing down the traffic. Upon the approval of the design proposal, our architect
designed a skywalk for Washington Avenue. The designer worked on this project over the course of
seven weeks. The architect interviewed ten people on the preferred features of the proposed skywalk.
A survey was also undertaken on the zoning information for the city of Washington in order to
determine the maximum garage size possible. The plan designer compiled the clients information as
well as the zoning information to determine the actual size of the parking lot, designed the floor plan
and completed the report. The recommended design for the skywalk, which is a modification of the
design found at http://www.aardvark house plans.com. The design provides ample space for
pedestrians to walk through. The skywalk features a two sided walk that can accommodate light traffic

Compare And Contrast My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
Robert Browning (7 May 1812 12 December 1889) was an English poet and scriptwriter whose
mastery of the dramatic monologue made him one of the most prominent Victorian poets. Within his
collection were two of his most renowned works,
My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover . In My Last Duchess the speaker is an
Italian Duke who is speaking to the ambassador about his daughter, who he intends to marry. The
Duke then begins to flaunt his gallery of art with the intent to impress. He then comes across the
painting of his last duchess in which openly speaks about having her murdered for lack of respect for
him. Porphyria s Lover is a dramatic monologue that describes the events that eventually lead to the
death of Porphyria. The speaker lives in a cottage in the countryside. His lover, a gorgeous young
woman named Porphyria, comes in out of a storm and attempts to bring cheer to the cottage. She
caresses the speaker, offering him her bare shoulder. Realizing that she will eventually give in to
society s pressures, and wanting to conserve the moment, he wraps her hair around her neck and
strangles her. He then adjusts her corpse, opening the eyes and propping the body up against his side.
He sits with her body this way the entire night, the speaker declaring that God has not yet punished
him. Although these two poems share many similarities, the differences can be discovered through the
analysis of the language, themes, and the feelings the reader experiences while reading these poems.
As a result of these poems being published in a collection, the structure of the two poems shares many
attributes. Although the rhyme scheme is different to add a unique feel to the poem, they both consist
of 1 long stanza. Doing this, Browning added a sense of suspense to each poem by having the reader
continuously read without any real transitions. Rhyming couplets show control and the rhyme scheme
in My Last Duchess, is rhyming couplets the whole way through, which shows that the Duke
evidently had controlled the whole poem. In Porphyria s Lover, there are only rhyming couplets in the
end, as he kills her, this is the only time in the whole poem where he has control. Both poems contain
a multitude of caesuras within

Ralph Waldo Emerson And Individualism
Do people in need have a right to be assisted by people who have the means necessary to help; is it
better for the recievers to be aided, or to solve their problems by themselves? Many philosophers
throughout human history have analyzed and constructed arguments for and against helping the needy
and poor, as well as arguments for charitable isolation. Peter Singer is an Australian philosopher who
wrote Famine Affluence and Morality in Philosophy and Public Affairs to convince people of rich
societies that giving charity to those in need is not generous, but is rather morally obligatory to people
that have the resources to help
Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American philosopher that contributed to the concept of individualism.
As part of a series of essays, Emerson wrote Self Reliance to explain his personal worldview of
individualism, a moral philosophy that judges people based on their individual personality traits,
values, experiences, and values. The main idea of Self Reliance is that people should not conform to
morals and values of other people, but should instead let their values be shaped by the life that they
lead.
Garrett Hardin on the other hand, was an American philosopher and ecologists that wrote Lifeboat
Ethics in Psychology Today to differentiate a world that has a single authority leading it, from a world
that has multiple authorities without a supreme captain to dictate right from wrong. Hardin further
explains how distributing resources based on

Monopoly And How It Reflects Society
Monopoly and how it reflects society
Monopoly is a board game which dates back to the early 20th century. Monopoly is a game which is
based on the idea that, an economy which rewards wealth creation is better than one in which
monopolist work under few constraints. This game encourages capitalism, in which one individual or
group can own a specific market and charge whatever fees they which, to attain the profit they want,
till the individuals either get bankrupt or stop using their services for alternating services. Monopoly
can be used to represent the inequalities of society, by using modified rules to reflect social
stratification of our society. To show then inequality in society, first everyone starts with a different
amount of money, with the highest income quartile starting with $3,728 US, multiple properties and
receiving $500 US every time he/she crosses the GO sign. On the other hand, the lowest quartile start
with a meager amount of $270 US, no property and receive $36 US every time the pass GO. From this

Essay On Observation To A Classroom Observation
On Tuesday September 28th, 2017 I observed Mrs. Rosser s first grade classroom. Her classroom is
located within Donahue Academy which is located in Ave Maria, Florida. The classroom had a total of
14 students. The children cover every basic subject everyday such as science, math, writing, reading,
and they also practice their handwriting. Since this is a Catholic school the children also have daily
mass along with daily religion studies. When I first walked into the classroom the children were hard
at work. They were all spread throughout the classroom sitting on various rugs throughout the
classroom working on their writing. The students in the class had the opportunity to work alone or
with partners. Mrs. Rosser was fully engaged with the students when I walked into the classroom. She
was chatting with the students about their stories and helping them brainstorm in order to extend their
stories. Mrs. Rosser promptly greeted me and told me to make myself comfortable. She then quickly
got back to helping the students with their stories. I felt that Mrs. Rosser s classroom was set up
efficiently. Her desk is set up where she has a clear view of all of her students. Although when I was in
her classroom for my observation she was never at her desk. She was up and moving around the
classroom during my entire observation period. The student s desks were all set up in the center of the
classroom in clusters. The only problem with some of the children s desks were that they don t face
the front white board so they would need to turn completely around in their chairs to see. Although it
seemed that Mrs. Rosser typically had the students come to the front rug in front of the white board
while she taught. That way the children didn t have any issues with having to turn around in their
chairs. I felt that Mrs. Rosser s educational philosophy was that she wanted to create a really amazing
classroom community. I loved how she referred to all of her students as friends. An example to her
calling all of her students friends, she would say, Gather around friends! Mrs. Rosser is one of the
most positive teachers I have ever experienced. I honestly wish I would have had a teacher as positive
as her when I was that age.

The Film Frankie Alice Starring Halle Berry
Intro The film Frankie Alice starring Halle Berry is based on a true story of a woman who is living
with a dissociative identity disorder. Set a number of years back (likely the 1970s or 1980s), this film
provides the audience with a close up look at what it might be like to live with a mental health
disorder. While watching the film, I put a great deal of effort into understanding the symptoms and
episodes of the disorder, as the main character experienced them. Through my findings, I have a
greater understanding and appreciation not only of dissociative identity disorder but also of mental
health in general.
Mental Status exam diagnosis I would like to address each of the identities that appear in the film so

is Frankie who is an African American female in her early thirties who works as an exotic dancer. One
of the other personalities that she exhibits is a woman by the name of Alice, who is southern racist.
The final identity that appears much less often is a young child who the psychiatrist comes to call

about how if her mother found out, she would be mad at Ashleigh s father, and not at Ashleigh.Yet if

Aldo Leopold The Land Pyramid
In his essay titled The Land Ethic, Aldo Leopold argues that humans should extend ethical behaviors
to the natural environment or in other words, the land. The author points out that, thus far, humans
have only acted ethically towards one another. However, he believes that it is time for humans also to
start to treat the environment with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our
own species. The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing nature as a
resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the responsibility to
take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence.
Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of the land as he puts it.
Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply share the planet with millions of other
species and who are a part of an intricate and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all
living beings. Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to
recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a tangible object. To
make this possible, Leopold creates the idea of The Land Pyramid, whose purpose is to create a
mental image of the environment as a complex biotic mechanism. The food pyramid is comprised of
many layers. The bottom layer is the widest because it represents the species that are most abundant

Essay Sports Massage- Case Study
This essay will explore the value of massage in the overall management of an athlete with lateral knee
pain, and a diagnosis of Ilio tibial band syndrome.
It will explore the use of massage generally then focus on specific techniques used in myofascial
pathologies. It will also describe the techniques employed, the clinical reasoning for their choice and
the relevant supporting evidence.
The relevant anatomy will be discussed as well as the proposed influences of massage on these
structures using current literature to support these hypotheses.
Massage has been used around the world for thousands of years for rehabilitation and relaxation
(Weerapong et al, 2005). Massage is the treatment and practice of manipulation of the soft body ...

Distally it attaches to Gerdy s tubercle on the anterolateral aspect of the tibia having passed over the
lateral femoral condyle (Fairclough et al, 2006).
Miller et al (2007) showed greater knee flexion and internal hip rotation in runners with ITBS at heel
strike. Using a simple biomechanical they showed that both factors increased stress on the ITB.
Biomechanical studies show that maximum compression of the ITB over the lateral femoral condyle
occurs at 30 degrees flexion of the knee (Orchard, 1996) hence it has been assumed that the band
actually moves over the condyle.
MRI findings in a study by Nishimura et al (1997) suggest soft tissue inflammation and /or oedema
rather than focal fluid collection. This study also showed no alteration to the structure of the ITB
itself, and that the posterior fibres are tighter against the femur. A further study involving cadavers and
MRI by Fairclough et al (2006) show ITBS is more likely to be highly innervated fat compression
beneath the tract as different parts of the distal ITB come under tension i.e. anterior and posterior
sections.
One of the commonly quoted conservative interventions for ITBS is massage or more precisely
myofascial release techniques (Brukner and Khan, 2006; Chaitow and DeLany, 2002; Pettit and
Dolski, 2000). Indeed Fredericson (2005), states Identifying and eliminating these myofascial
components complements physical therapy and should precede strengthening and muscle

  • 2. Christian History And The Holy Spirit Essay Christian history is active and alive as the Holy Spirit works in and amongst the community of Christians who comprise the Church. Similar to the recording of history in the first century by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles, Christian history is still being written today. Specifically, as Evangelical Christians, we write the story of history each day as we work to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16 20) through application of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 37 40). As such, we soon realize that we are not casual observers or bystanders of history, but actual participants. In other words, we have a responsibility to both understand and interpret the past and then apply the faith we hold amongst the generation and peoples of the here and now. As we obediently apply God s word to, go therefore and make disciples of all nations and to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself, we should awaken to the key terms of all nations and your neighbor. It is with this realization that our neighbors, in the communities in which we live, literally represent the nations of the world. In other words, in the modern world in which we live, changes in demographics, world events, and movements of people have literally brought the nations of the world to our front door. As such, we have a great opportunity to open these doors, which turn opens the door to the gospel to the nations of the world. • 3. Ali Hale Writing Process Analysis In this week s article, the author, Ali Hale wrote about the five steps of the writing process. These steps includes prewriting, writing, revising, editing and publishing. Prewriting is the first step of the writing process, this step allows the writer to form ideas and write them down. Once they get an idea of what to write, they can either brainstorm or free write. Brainstorm means writing down any ideas that comes to mind on a piece of paper with the main idea in the center. These ideas can be subtopics or directions to the article. On the other hand, free write is when the writer starts writing their ideas down about the topic and not worry about grammar, spelling and punctuations. After the writer is done they can decide on what is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Confederate Flag And Its Racist One of the most trending topics in America right now is the Confederate Flag and whether or not it s racist. 42 percent think the flag represent southern heritage and the other 42 percent think it s racist and should be taken down. 75 percent believe it s racist and only one in ten will agree that it is southern heritage. Depending on what region is asked about if it is racist, there are different answers. The Midwest say it is racist and the south, of course, say it s not racist. A poll showed that African Americans, Democrats, and the highly educated were more likely to perceive the flag negatively. The Confederate States of America came into existence on February 4, 1861. It had six states at first and they were the Deep South. Those states were South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana. After April 1861 four upper south states joined. They were Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas. They made they re own court system and congress. It reflected a lot of the American government. The confederate flag should be taken down because it is a symbol of hate, rebellion and racism. The first reason the Confederate flag should be taken down is because it is a symbol of hate. More than 620,000 Americans lost their lives at the hands of other Americans. Nearly equal to the total number of American deaths in all other wars combined. The Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse. Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century town halls . Evolution also has some true undeniable facts as well. As we learn more and more every day, those facts tend to change though, unlike creationism which has stayed the same since the beginning of time. It is unfair that something is being taught without even being put into question or put up to another opinion of why the Earth is here and how it got here. An example could be that in school, teachers should not teach you about what political party they agree with and why that party is right. They should be talking about both parties and giving both sides of the story and saying why they disagree. This would show that they want you to be nonbiased and try to let you pick for yourself instead of pushing you to side with their opinions. It is not right to only teach children, or anybody for that matter only one view of an argument. Both sides should be taught in a way that is the least biased and let the kids decide for themselves what is right or wrong. Much information was premised on business owners, managers and employees working collectively, how to improve communication skills, and how to define a goal and motivate others to follow it based on military leadership. The connection between these two worlds of business and military is apparent. Many of today s companies derive their structure and leadership model from that which is applied in the army. There are plenty of people who possess the personality traits associated with leadership, yet many of these people never seek out positions of leadership (Wheeler, 2000). It focuses not on mental qualities or internal states, but on the actions and behaviors of leaders. According to this theory, people can learn to become leaders through teaching and observation (Wheeler, 2000). One can conclude that it is the converse of the Great Man theory. Contingency Theory According to this theory, there is not a leadership style that would be best in all situations. Contingency theory of leadership focuses on particular variables related to the environment that might determine which particular style of leadership is best suited for the situation. If the leader is highly effective in one situation, he or she may not necessarily be effective in another. Success depends upon a number of variables, including qualities of the followers, the leadership style or aspects of the situation (Wheeler, 2000). The purpose of software and software based systems testing is to help the development organization build quality into the software and system during the life cycle processes and to validate that the quality was achieved. The test process determines whether the products of a given life cycle activity conform to the requirements of that activity, and whether the product satisfies its intended use and user needs. This determination can include inspection, demonstration, analysis, and testing of software and software based system products. Test activities are performed in parallel with software and system development, not just at the conclusion of the development effort. IEEE 829 supports all software life cycle processes, including acquisition, supply, development, operation, and maintenance. This standard is compatible with all life cycle models. Not all life cycle models use all of the life cycle processes listed in this standard. It is also where the most controversy lies as arguments, using ethical theories, can be made for and against laws on end of life. Ethics has at least two primary functions: to guide our actions, and to provide justification for the guidance given (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p. 42). A duty oriented ethicist would be against euthanasia and physician assisted death. They believe we can t stop all pain; what is crucial is that we act with dignity and respect in the face of suffering (Edge Groves, 2006, p.40). Kant s view is a person committing suicide takes the easy way out, where reason would dictate he or she face their problems (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p.38). Virtue ethicists would also be against euthanasia and physician assisted death. Virtue ethicists hold it is not only important to do the right thing but equally to have the right disposition, motivation, and traits for being good and doing right (Edge Groves, 2006, p.43). As a believer in God, a virtue ethicist would hold suicide as an unreasonable option. They would believe God to be the sole arbiter of life and death (Schuklenk et al., 2011, p.42) and therefore, the right thing to do would be for God to end their life as he sees fit. We have studied citizenship and obligations to society as a citizen, justice and what it means to us as individuals, and how to go about enacting change within a community and around the world. Some of the most important topics from this class included the characteristics, duties, and obligations of rulers of government. In addition to the concept of rulers, we also studied the notion of authority and the moral and metaphysical implications of authority to individuals autonomy. Within each concept of study, we read works from many authors with conflicting ontologies, constructed from their differing views on human nature. Within the study of rulers, we read differing views from five different authors. The first author, Plato, wrote in his book, The Republic, that there are different levels of understanding the world. The lowest level of understanding, he said, was when someone could see the shadow of the image, then above that level of understanding was to understand the images themselves. That level consisted of most of the people within a society. A select view could understand the next level; scientific manifestations of objects. Finally, the highest level of understanding was known as understanding the pure forms. The Cause And Effects Of Procrastination Causes Stress Jordan Pinkston Amelia Borders English 103 005 12 October 2017 Procrastination Causes Stress It has happened to the best of us, we push back doing our work and then all of a sudden it s due tomorrow. Procrastination is no stranger to today s culture in time management. There are other kinds of actions that cause the delay of time. For example scheduling task A to a later time because task B is more important is not an act of procrastinating but more of an act of priority. The act of procrastination always refers to a negative act that reduces performance and quality of work. This however is a stereotype and might not be true. Procrastination is mainly caused by personality and mental state and can affect the procrastinator s performance and health. People love to push their planned date to do their work further back, but that only causes more stress on them. Some people have the habit of procrastination and some people simply do not. Procrastination is associated with feelings of frustration, regret, despair, and even self blame(Akademiai Kiado). Procrastination can come from a fear of not succeeding. There is a term for this, Kakorrhaphiophobia which is the fear of failure(Merriam Webster). Kakorrhaphiophobia may be caused by previous experience of the procrastinator that created such a traumatic effect that causes the procrastinator avoid certain task and push it as late as possible in order to prevent the repetition of the same experience. As an individual s standard increases, the possibility of failure also increases thus increasing the fear of failure. There are three kinds of procrastination which are self perfectionism, where we expect a certain standard for ourselves. Also an other perfectionism, where we set a standard for others. There is also a socially prescribed perfectionism where we think others have set a standard for us. People with low self esteem often underestimate themselves and will not achieve their full potential which causes a rise in the rate of failure. This causes an increase of fear of failure and fear of not achieving perfection. Many do not realize but their confidence in getting the task done may be affecting their reactions towards doing the task. The mental state of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women s Career Advancement According to Feistritzer s research (as cited in Bynum, 2015), there has been a disproportionate representation of women in education at the highest positions of education leadership , especially in comparison to the number who begin their careers as teachers. Although the number of women in management and administrative positions has increased, the majority of senior positions are still held by men. The lack of women role models in academic departments and barriers women face in acquiring leadership roles can be contributed to male oriented organizational expectations. Research has shown that mentoring can significantly enhance the salary and promotion possibilities for women experiencing these types of situations. In academia, mentoring awareness can reduce barriers to women s career advancement, tenure and pay (Cullen Luna, 1993). I think it would be hard to figure out what to put in a time capsule in the year 1915, but it did give a looking glass to the year 2017 about what was used before all the technology and new gadgets. For me, fashion, FADS, and technology would best describe what life was like in the 2000 s. To best describe what our generation was like fashion, technology, and FADS should be placed in a time capsule. For example, one of the fashion trends in 2016 mostly names brands. Like a brand named Supreme . Once famous YouTubers started to wear this clothing brand, most teenagers have been wanting to get a headband or a shirt. • 26. Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it a glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I have personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited interactions I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I asked my girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available after removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent movie that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she saw the movie several years ago, she recalled that the film evoked many strong emotional responses which made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision of which movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced a wide range of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example, I was frustrated when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home and informed both of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling her stupid, asking if she thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was frustrated when the mother forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s dinner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nature can be one of the entities that terrifies humans the most. These disastrous tsunamis can be caused by many different situations. Geology is closely connected to the production of tsunamis and their occurrences. It is also a useful tool in identifying the causes of tsunamis in ancient times. All tsunamis are tied to rocks and minerals, which cause earthquakes. When the ocean floor moves, water is thrust upward, thus causing a tsunami. These giant waves of destruction are caused by volcanoes, earthquakes, and underwater landslides. Earthquakes are more common in the causing of tsunamis than any other cause. These deposits help scientists to uncover the truths about the pasts and even determine the magnitude of a historical earthquake. There was an earthquake in 869 in Sendai and Honshu called the Sanriku earthquake. The scientists were able to uncover facts about the earthquake due to the sediments left behind from the resulting tsunami. The term used to describe these scientists and their profession is Palesoseismology. They look at sediments and rocks and observe them. Using the observations, they uncover the truth of ancient earthquakes in the past. This is helpful to inform people of seismic hazard and to prevent widespread damage. Juvenile delinquency is the violation of a law of the United States committed by a person prior to reaching 18 years of age, which would have been a crime committed by an adult (office). There are many residential programs put in place all over the country to help these youths that are coming in and out of the Criminal Justice system. Once these Juveniles come out of jail, or get released on bond, they sometimes do not have a stable place to go to and live. As these youths are leaving the jail facility there are a wide variety of residential programs to help them get back on their feet. These residential programs include Out of home placement in an institutional or camp like setting, or they might be eligible for an alternative placement, such a community confinement. (programs) Statistics shows that in 1999, nearly one in every 4 adjudicated delinquency cases resulted in out of home placement for the juvenile. Placement cases have grown by almost 24 percent in less than 10 years, from 124,900 in 1990 to 155,200 in 1999. However, this statistic might be a bit old, recent statistics shows that there has been a steep decline in the number of juveniles going into placement programs. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances. My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. It is the nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Shakespeare said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought revenge was as normal and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs greatly from this vengeful human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people are entitled to mistakes. An example of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated. Gimpel had found her lying with another man and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was pondering upon this predicament, he said to himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You cannot live without errors. Probably that lad who was with her led her on and gave her presents and what not, and women are often long on hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer, Isaac). • 34. Compare And Contrast My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover Robert Browning (7 May 1812 12 December 1889) was an English poet and scriptwriter whose mastery of the dramatic monologue made him one of the most prominent Victorian poets. Within his collection were two of his most renowned works, My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover . In My Last Duchess the speaker is an Italian Duke who is speaking to the ambassador about his daughter, who he intends to marry. The Duke then begins to flaunt his gallery of art with the intent to impress. He then comes across the painting of his last duchess in which openly speaks about having her murdered for lack of respect for him. Porphyria s Lover is a dramatic monologue that describes the events that eventually lead to the death of Porphyria. The speaker lives in a cottage in the countryside. His lover, a gorgeous young woman named Porphyria, comes in out of a storm and attempts to bring cheer to the cottage. She caresses the speaker, offering him her bare shoulder. Realizing that she will eventually give in to society s pressures, and wanting to conserve the moment, he wraps her hair around her neck and strangles her. He then adjusts her corpse, opening the eyes and propping the body up against his side. He sits with her body this way the entire night, the speaker declaring that God has not yet punished him. Although these two poems share many similarities, the differences can be discovered through the analysis of the language, themes, and the feelings the reader experiences while reading these poems. As a result of these poems being published in a collection, the structure of the two poems shares many attributes. Although the rhyme scheme is different to add a unique feel to the poem, they both consist of 1 long stanza. Doing this, Browning added a sense of suspense to each poem by having the reader continuously read without any real transitions. Rhyming couplets show control and the rhyme scheme in My Last Duchess, is rhyming couplets the whole way through, which shows that the Duke evidently had controlled the whole poem. In Porphyria s Lover, there are only rhyming couplets in the end, as he kills her, this is the only time in the whole poem where he has control. Both poems contain a multitude of caesuras within ... Ralph Waldo Emerson And Individualism Do people in need have a right to be assisted by people who have the means necessary to help; is it better for the recievers to be aided, or to solve their problems by themselves? Many philosophers throughout human history have analyzed and constructed arguments for and against helping the needy and poor, as well as arguments for charitable isolation. Peter Singer is an Australian philosopher who wrote Famine Affluence and Morality in Philosophy and Public Affairs to convince people of rich societies that giving charity to those in need is not generous, but is rather morally obligatory to people that have the resources to help Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American philosopher that contributed to the concept of individualism. As part of a series of essays, Emerson wrote Self Reliance to explain his personal worldview of individualism, a moral philosophy that judges people based on their individual personality traits, values, experiences, and values. The main idea of Self Reliance is that people should not conform to morals and values of other people, but should instead let their values be shaped by the life that they lead. Mrs. Rosser promptly greeted me and told me to make myself comfortable. She then quickly got back to helping the students with their stories. I felt that Mrs. Rosser s classroom was set up efficiently. Her desk is set up where she has a clear view of all of her students. Although when I was in her classroom for my observation she was never at her desk. She was up and moving around the classroom during my entire observation period. The student s desks were all set up in the center of the classroom in clusters. Although it seemed that Mrs. Rosser typically had the students come to the front rug in front of the white board while she taught. That way the children didn t have any issues with having to turn around in their chairs. I felt that Mrs. Rosser s educational philosophy was that she wanted to create a really amazing classroom community. I loved how she referred to all of her students as friends. • 41. Aldo Leopold The Land Pyramid In his essay titled The Land Ethic, Aldo Leopold argues that humans should extend ethical behaviors to the natural environment or in other words, the land. The author points out that, thus far, humans have only acted ethically towards one another. However, he believes that it is time for humans also to start to treat the environment with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our own species. The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing nature as a resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the responsibility to take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence. Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of the land as he puts it. Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply share the planet with millions of other species and who are a part of an intricate and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all living beings. Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a tangible object.
