Many African Americans had moved north during the Great Migration to escape conditions in the
south, but found that discrimination was still prevalent in northern cities. African Americans not
only had difficulties finding jobs, but still felt the stigma of being black. Living within the time
of legal discrimination, many African Americans soon realized that though they may have
escaped the violence of the south, they still had to deal with the challenges and setbacks of
being black in America. The Great Migration began in the 1910s and 1920s during World War I.

Comfort in Nature In the horrible first war, soldiers often found peace and comfort in nature. In
Erich Maria Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front many soldiers are often drawn to
nature to provide comfort and peace. Young Paul Baumer, the central character in the novel,
frequently looks to nature for comfort in the midst of the war going on around him. Remarque
reveals in this novel that it is possible to make a connection to something so pure while in the
midst of something horrific and unnatural like war. Paul experiences the death of his close friend
(Keimmerich), but in nature, he finds comfort and is empowered. This is shown when Paul
states, I breathe as deep as I can, and feel the breeze in my face, warm and soft as never before
(33). This passage shows how Paul looks to nature for comfort in times where he is sad or angry.

Lamont Symphony Orchestra performed three beautiful sets of music that was conducted by
Ryan Kozak with Hisham Bravo Groover, Assistant Conductors and Lawrence Golan being the
Music Director and Conductor at Denver University on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in June
Swaner Concert Hall at 7:30pm. Kozak conducted all three of the of the pieces; Danse Macabre Op
40 by Camille Saint SaГ«ns (1835 to 1921), Isle of the Dead, Op. 29 by Sergei Rachmaninoff
which is my favorite out of all three pieces (1873 to 1943), and Symphony No. 5, Op. 107 by Felix
Mendelssohn (1809 to 1847). Walking into the concert hall I was flabbergasted. The size of the
room just amazed me and the stage was fantastic to say the least. Made me more excited for the
show to start! As I sat down in my seat I noticed all the types of people in the concert hall were
dressed in many different sets of attire. Elderly people were better dressed with their suits and
dresses and pant suits where the younger people in the concert hall were still nicely dressed but
were a little more casual. After what seemed like forever the lights finally began to go dim and I

Deviance, behavior that is outside of what is deemed socially acceptable, is necessary for
stability and social order in society this according to functionalist theorist Emile Durkheim
(MindEdge, Inc., 2016). Historically, society has generally been successful in providing
motivation for individuals to aspire to goals of some sort, whether through wealth, prestige or,
perceived power (Henslin, 2011). However, from a functionalist perspective, theories have been
developed by identifying when lawful and equal access is not afforded to certain individuals in
the process of obtaining such goals. This restriction and inequality to opportunity for access in the
quest to achieve success is what is now referred to as structural strain theory, which was developed
by sociologist Robert Merton (Henslin, 2011). According to Merton, structural strain theory
describes the resulting outcome or motivations demonstrated through deviant behaviors, that arise

Introduction This paper aims to explore the Legal Services Act 2007 and the impact the Act has
had on the role of a Costs Lawyer since implementation. Findings The starting point for this topic
has to be to consider the original Legislation and the rights provided within the same. The Courts
and Legal Services Act 1990 only allowed qualified and regulated Solicitors and Barristers the
rights of audience before a Court in proceedings to which the individual was not a party to. The
Access t Justice Act 1999 made it possible for other professional groups beyond Solicitors and
Barristers to grant rights to their members. A number of bodies took advantage of this including
the Association of Law Costs Draftsman. The Legal Services Act 2007 replaced the Courts and
Legal Services Act 1990 on 1 January 2010 and was implemented to liberalise and regulate the
market for legal services in England and Wales. The Act has encouraged more competition and
provided a new route for consumer complaints. The Act was introduced in November 2006 by
Lord Falconer Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and received Royal Assent on 30
October 2007. Since implementation the Act has simplified and improved the regulation of legal
service provision in England and Wales and has created a framework for legal services to be
provided. The regulatory objectives and professional principles are set out in section 1 of the Act.

General Sherman s contribution to the Civil War will forever be remembered in history, although
