Chemistry Lab And Organic Chemistry
After a harsh Wednesday due to Chemistry Lab and Organic Chemistry, I enjoy sitting in the patio
area of Cafe 1919 and enjoy a Panini along with a Caprese salad. Both the main dish and side contain
a fruit I once hated as a child. Tomato have always been the part of the burger I threw out, the part of
the salad I did not touch, the part I could never swallow. Even throughout high school, I always hated
tomatoes, but ever since I got to UCLA my love for this fruit exponentially grew out of nowhere. One
day as I was enjoying my usual Wednesday lunch, I wonder what gave these little morsels such a juicy
taste. Perhaps UCLA does but the best fruit and vegetables for their students, perhaps the oil the
tomatoes bathe in give it its rich taste, or perhaps we have those hidden GMO, gentically modified
organisms, that people argue over its stability. I search if there is any known gentically altered
tomatoes and the search engine directed me to links that talk about a product known as the Flavr Savr.
Interesting enough the product known as the Flavr Savr, which is a gentically altered tomato is
actually the first FDA approved GMO to hit to the market. After discovering the first ever GMO my
curious mind started asking questions that I needed to know. I wonder what exactly is the Flavr Sav?
When was it created? Who created it and how? Was there a reason they chose to mess with the DNA
of a tomato? How did people response to the first of many gentically altered food? Is the Flavr

Frederick II Compare And Contrast Essay
Emperor Frederick II of Germany and King Louis IX of France were both important figureheads of
the crusades as they personally prepared for the departure and led the army to the Holy Land. This
indicated a transition of responsibility for crusading from the Church to royal figures. Even though
Louis IX s crusades failed and Frederick II s crusade gained control of the Holy Land, Louis IX
became a saint whereas Frederick II was declared the Antichrist. Therefore, the outcome of the
crusades led by both kings did not determine the public s approval and disapproval. Despite failing
both of his crusades, Louis IX became a saint because of his sincere intention and devotion to liberate
the Holy Land. Frederick II, on the other hand, was indifferent toward the faith and the main purpose
for him to lead the crusade was to acquire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other than various documents praising Louis personality, even his enemy praised him for being noble.
Since his father took part in the Albigensian Crusade, Louis grew up in a family of past crusaders with
chivalry tradition. Therefore, he had a strong sense of justice and religious identity. Louis was
passionate about leading his own crusade in order to save Jerusalem and restore the honor of the
Church. He used most of France s resources to fund the crusades during the preparation process. Louis
also gained Innocent IV s trust since the pope gave Louis one tenth of his church s revenue. Even after
losing his first crusade, the king took full responsible for it and committed to his position as a ruler of
France for penance. Meanwhile, he still assisted the crusader kingdom in different ways such as
sending them funds from France. During his trip to the Holy Land, all people joyfully welcomed him.
Louis s presence had stabilized Jerusalem s internal conflicts. Furthermore, Louis improved the
defenses of the crusader

Learning And Development Processes Of A Child
The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory
sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and
humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just how
different they can be with their explanations of this.
The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives presented to
the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases the likelihood of
the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens as a process of
learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child s age and or mental
ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical conditioning, operant
conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by consequences such as positive
and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments. Classical conditioning is when
the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack,
2008).
Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary responses
to stimuli. Pavlov looked at the responses of dogs and found that when the dog was presented with
food the dog would salivate, which would be an unconditional response. But, when combined with the
ringing of a bell as the food was

United Kingdom s Employment Law and Relationships
Wedderburn has a significant point in his statement that United Kingdom employment relationships
are highly regulated by law. It would be more accurate, however, to state that there are certain areas of
employment law that are well regulated from a variety of different sources. Prior to denoting just what
these sources are and what effects they have on various employers, employees, and organized labor
unions, however, it is necessary to delineate the development of employment law throughout the
United Kingdom which, given this region s lengthy history, is fairly recent.
Prior to the midway point of the 20th century, there was no employment law in the UK or throughout
various other parts of Europe as well. For the most part, all employment relationships took the form of
master/servant roles, with the latter having fairly little say in the terms and conditions of their
employment. In the 1960 s, however, this decidedly laissez faire approach was replaced by a few
minimum standards protocols that dealt with safety and economic dismissal. One of the regulations
that emerged regarding the latter topic was the 1965 Redundancy Payment Act, which issued
stipulations and standards for termination (Gunter, 1965).
Trade unions truly emerged as a powerhouse and one of the key drivers for employment relationship
in the 1970 s. Collective bargaining was rampant and even advocated by governmental entities to
prevent strikes from occurring. Perhaps the most important aspect of this epoch

Summary Of Hypocrite Of Women By Denise Levertov
Hypocrite of Women, by Denise Levertov seems to contain a deep message within its playful wording.
The basic meaning that I was able to pull from within this was that as women we are hypocrites,
because we will shun others within society for what we consider to be inappropriate behavior, or
below the standards of society, however when it comes down to our own personal faults within our
characters, we tend to overlook them or ignore them. This is a fascinating poem because I feel like it
does reflect how society was as well as is today. In The Ache of Marriage, I was able to discern that
Denise Levertov s goal was to explore the pain of an unwanted marriage. The pain that she reflects
within her writing seems to be of both an emotional and a physical basis. This ... Show more content

She seems to be saying that without the pain and the tribulations, a marriage wouldn t be worth as
much. It s almost like she says that the sacrifices are what makes the marriage worth it. The pain of
this marriage results in the ultimate achievement of the objective of marriage. The poem states that all
the aches and pains of marriage are worth going through because the love of another is epic. I found
that the two of these poems together were a fascinating combination, because one speaks of the
hypocrisy of not doing anything about the flaws in a person s own characteristics, and the other seems
to say to live with the pain that you have to live with the faults; through doing so one will find bliss; it
is worth the sacrifice. I like the fact that they seem to contradict one another because as people in
general we tend to contradict ourselves. As a reader I was able to connect to both of these particular
poems by Denise Levertov, because I was able to see how in my own life where I might have judged
another for some preconceived idea that society laid before me, yet not think twice about what I

Personal Narrative-Fair Job Fair
Last Friday, I went to the Career Fair and there were eleven organizations. Out of the eleven
organizations, I only went up to three organizations because I was more interested in their companies.
The first company I went up to was Shaw because Shaw is a carpet company that I want to start off for
my first job. When I went up to the two ladies, I introduced myself and stating what I am majoring in
and what I am looking for. One of the ladies provided me information whether the company had a
position open for any accounting. Unfortunately, the company did not have any opening. She told me
after graduation to look at their website for any open position, so I left her a copy of my resume. After
having my first conversation, I realize I forgot to ask her for a business card. It is important for me to

Predictive Analysis Of Predictive Analysis, An Integral...
Predictive Analysis is an integral part of any business with its major role in all dimensions of the
business decision making processes. Prediction helps in understanding the customer better and
managing customer relationships in an efficient way. Understanding the customer is the most
important part of the business process as it impacts the potential growth in business and the success of
any business decision, be it a drastic or a minor change.
For instance, a product launch can be strategically planned using predictive analytics, if we know our
customers better. The sales and the marketing teams work closely with analysts and data scientists to

These models are often used to understand customer behaviors in detail.
Businesses want to understand what kind of products the customers are likely to buy, who are the
loyal customers who keep coming back for re purchasing similar or other products, what other
products are our loyal customers interested in, what are the potential marketing campaigns which
could help us attract customers who are similar to the existing high value customers, and so on.
A few applications of Predictive Models:
The most important customer analytic areas and the state of the art methodologies are as follows.
(1) Customer attrition analysis
Predicting customer attrition is one of the major areas in customer analytics. Businesses have the need
to continuously monitor and understand customer behavior and their expectations, in order to have an
edge over the competitors. It makes no practical sense to not know whether the customers are staying
with the company or do they have a risk of attrition, due to various controllable and uncontrollable
factors. It is extremely essential for any business to retain the existing customers and resolving any
pressing issues in a timely manner. Retaining a customer is as important, if not more, as attracting new
customers.
a. Attrition Risk Modeling:
This is performed to predict the attrition risk for different customers/customer segments. The
customers with high risk of attrition are identified using various factors like their

Persuasive Essay On Mass Shootings
There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all over the
world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing other people
and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass shootings in the
United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty five years there have
been seven hundred and twenty two and then one thousand one hundred seventy seven (Chris Wilson).
If you look at the number of people that are killed or being wounded, you will notice that with new
devices being introduced. One of the devices that have been introduced is a bump stock. This device is
a stock for a semi automatic rifle that can basically turn your semi automatic rifle into a fully
automatic rifle. They are considering making this attachment to a rifle illegal to the public.
A bump stock it should be banned, it should be disallowed, it should be wiped off of the face of the
earth, said Steven Wolfson, the district attorney of Clarkson county, Nevada, which includes Las
Vegas (Shortell). The Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017 killed fifty nine people and
injured five hundred twenty seven others. The shooter had twenty three firearms in his hotel room and
twenty of them were rifles and most of them were equipped with bump stocks. Most people did not
have a problem with the bump stock until certain people started using them to shoot and kill humans
in mass shootings. People are trying to get these bump stocks banned because of this reason: mass
shootings. Bump stocks are not the reason for mass shootings, but they allow the gun man s rifle to
shoot faster. With the gun firing faster the gun man can kill more people because there is more
projectiles firing from the gun. Most people want the bump stock to be banned in every state. Citizens
of the United States will probably begin to buy these bump stocks because they will probably be
banned soon.
If they talk about banning certain bump stocks or all of them, people will go out and begin to buy
them before they are not available anymore. If this happens more people will go out and buy them
even if they have never even thought

The Mental Illness Of The United States Essay
Lydia Anderson Period 1 There are many people in the United States that have a mental illness that is
either not able to be treated or is never diagnosed at all. This is because treatment is very expensive
and hard to access, and without proactive care of the mentally ill there can be various unfortunate
outcomes, sadly including, death. So, why is access to mental health care so limited and what is the
government of Ohio doing to solve it and what else should be done? Mental illnesses are very
common in the United States, with one in five of adolescents having a diagnosed mental illness and in
the last year less than half of these adolescents have received proper treatment. The most common
mental disorders, anxiety and depression, can disrupt daily life and result in suicide, which is the third
most frequent cause of death in teenagers ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services ). Ten percent of adolescents did not have health insurance in 2013 and
those who did, had a very limited amount of mental health care services provided to them ( The Office
of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). It has been proved that it is
even less likely that adolescents who are poor, homeless, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender will
receive the care that is necessary for their health and even life ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services ). Mental disorders are not only an

Pregnancy among young homeless girls and the lack of acceptance regarding the sexual orientation of
other homeless youth are a large contributor to the increase of homeless youth throughout the nation.
A large number of homeless young women either run away or are kicked out of their home due to
pregnancy. A tenth of all homeless and runaway girls are reportedly pregnant. Other homeless youth
are forced to leave their home because of their sexual orientation. As many as twenty five percent of

It’s Time to Abolish the ACT and SAT Essay
A young girl is excited about graduating high school and attending her first year at college. She tries
hard at school and receives above average grades. She is an active student involved in student council,
band, the drama team, and peer tutoring, but her ACT scores are extremely low, disqualifying her from
many universities. The young girl represents many students who are not successful at taking
standardized tests because they have not developed the advanced skills required to take a test like the
ACT or SAT. An academically motivated and responsible student should not be prevented from
attending college because a standard test is not his or her standard. The current methods of testing for

Some of these variables might negatively affect a student s ability to answer the specific multiple
choice questions on a standardized test, but the learning potential lies within the student, not the
multiple choice question. The makers of the test cannot encompass all the variables of the students in
the multiple choice questions, nor should they have to try. The multiple choice questions should be
replaced with essay questions that allow for a diverse response from students of many backgrounds,
not one standard response from a uniform background. Supporters of standardized testing might argue
that a test cannot encompass all the variables of the student population, but essay questions encourage
diversity, not uniformity, in the students.
Successful ACT test takers may have no interest in college, yet they may be accepted and attend on
scholarship money from the school because of the high ACT scores. This student might waste time
and money in college because he or she has no real interest in school; he or she was simply good at
taking multiple choice tests. An essay question addressing and assessing the student s potential and
desire to learn might have caught the unmotivated student before he or she entered college. Multiple

Discrimination Is A Problem Since The Beginning Of Time
Discrimination has been a problem since the beginning of time. Discrimination is mentioned in many
pieces of classical literature such as Shakespeare s Othello. In this classical play the main character
Othello is never truly accepted into the Venetian society because he is a Moor from Northern Africa.
His skin color caused people to view him differently and also presented problems when he tried to
find a wife. After he eventually found and married Desdemona her father Brabantio still did not
approve of him; he said She, in spite of nature, Of years, of country, credit, everything, To fall in love
with what she feared to look on! It is a judgment maimed and most imperfect That will confess
perfection so could err Against all rules of nature (Act I, Scene 3). Brabantio saw this love as
unnatural because he believes Desdemona would never fall in love with a black man who she was
afraid to look upon. Before Othello married Desdemona Brabantio saw him as an honorable leader
and great man, but after their marriage he accuses him of black magic and urges their marriage to be
annulled by the Duke. This discrimination led to Othello s doubt and self conscience attitude which,
ultimately leads to his demise at the end of the play. Discrimination continues to exist today as it did
400 years ago in Shakespeare s time. Today people are still discriminated against and persecuted
because of their race or their religious views. The problem of racial discrimination was increasingly

Chuang Tzu Essay
Discussion on making all things equal from the inner chapters of Chuang Tzu by Aven Fisher Through
comparing different translations of the same texts one can get an idea of the meanings for the Chinese
words used by Chuang Tzu in his work. In comparison to the English language the difference in the
translations of the text gives the impression that the Chinese words used are much broader terms and
must be simplified before we can describe them in English. This paper will assess the second section
of the Chuang Tzu, specifically Discussion on making all things equal translated by Burton Watson.[1]

What way do I have of knowing that if I say I know something I don t really not know it? Or what
way do I have of knowing that if I say I don t know something I don t really in fact know it?[6] The
second teaching in Discussions on making all things equal seems to be an important element in the
Chuang Tzu. It is more obvious than some of the obscure lessons and begins with an almost
introductory sentence, Watson s translation reads; Do you know what all things agree in calling right?
Wang Ni explains that the values of each creature are incredibly different and of course he doesn t
know what each creature considers right. The message in the story seems to signify that wrong and
right are so complicated that they practically don t exist. Finally in the chapter, Chuang Tzu introduces
a concept that translates as the Transformation of Things.[7] The concept is illustrated through the
story of Chuang Chou dreaming he were a butterfly. This concept of a questionable reality is
fascinating and mysterious and it gives an idea of where Chuang Tzu was coming from with his
abstract descriptions and ideas. It seems common among many translations of the second chapter that
Discussions on making all things equal bears the message that there is no right or wrong in the
teachings of Chang Tzu as it is repeated several times. To go even further one

Similarities Between New France And Midlanders
New France s ideals of tolerance, a general distaste for hierarchy, and independence, aligned directly
with the Midlanders acceptance of the natives, their belief that all were equal in the eyes of God, and
their view on the government and religion. At the beginning of New France s creation, Samuel de
Champlain had a radical idea. He felt that this new settlement should coexist in a friendly, respectful
alliance with the Native American nations in whose territories it would be embedded (Woodard 35).
This idea pushed New France to form alliances with the Native Americans, showing their tolerance for
other cultures. The Midlanders shared this ideal. Based on the Golden Rule, the Quakers believed that
all humans were equal before God, regardless of sect, race, or gender (Woodard 93). ... Show more

Not only that, but it also showed how the Midlanders felt about hierarchy and how there was no need
for classism. New France also held this belief. After their first failed attempt at the feudal system, all
those who left to live in the wildness developed a dislike for the class system (Woodard 42). Just like
the Midlanders, New France felt that no one in the colony was above one another after the feudal
system dissolved. Because all the workers left the colony to move into wild, they began to rely on the
tribes more than their colony (Woodard 42). Their values mixed with the natives which created a sense
of fierce independence in the New France settlers. The Midlanders echoed this value of independence.
They believed that each person had an Inner Light holding the Holy Spirit within him or her (Woodard
93). This prompted the idea that the citizens could govern themselves, promoting a strong value of
independence. Because New France and the Midlands shared so many ideals, their identities were

Bathing: Teddy guinea pigs skin is naturally dry. They do not need many baths. In fact, many teddy
guinea pigs never bathed at all. Nevertheless, these guinea pigs tend to get dirty their undersides and

The Stereotypes Of Homosexuality In Film
While many believe that homosexuality has only been seen in mainstream media for only a few
decades, it has actually been with America cinema since the early 1920 s. The portrayal of
homosexuality in film and TV has come a very long way since the 1920 s. What viewers see on TV
about homosexuality is really just a representation of America s changing public view on the subject.
While we have come to accept the topic of homosexuality in American society more willingly, we
have substituted much of our prejudice about gays with the stereotypes that we see on TV constantly.
Because as a society we are constantly forced to see these stereotypes, we are being halted in our

In the early fifties, lesbians were also being attacked by the film industry, portraying them as
bulldykes and troublesome neurotics. While the Hollywood was struggling to make topic of
homosexuality in films more suitable for audiences, the film Victim made its debut in the United

oppression of homosexuals. While this was the first time in history that a film portrayed a gay
character in a non demeaning way, this would lead to the stereotype of sympathetic gay characters in
film. One film that I would like to note that is a great example from the 90 s would be the film
Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks as a gay AIDS victim that was fired because of his sexuality and
disease. Hollywood targets Hanks character and makes him into a tragic figure. His character dies at
the end of the film. In an interview with Jan Oxenberg, she points out that even though Tom Hanks
film was very effective, it is just a story about a gay hero who dies, who s a tragic figure and that it
seems as if Hollywood and the film industry will never have a film in which the gay main character

The number of movies adapted from comic books has, in recent years, become more and more
popular, and more comic book films are being released now than in the past. In this essay I will
explore the reasons why this pattern has emerged and potential reasons for the prevalence of comic
book adaptations in post 9/11 cinema .
The Dark Knight: Throughout The Dark Knight the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are continuously mirrored;
terrorism as an overall theme is also reflected throughout the movie, Phillip French of the Guardian
newspaper states that The Dark Knight shows us a post 9/11 Manichaean view of the world . Even
within the initial marketing of the film and in the various viral campaigns employed, we see
reflections of the 9/11 attacks on New York. In one of the main advertising posters for the movie we
see the protagonist Batman standing in the fore ground of the picture, in front of a huge sky scraping
building, not unfamiliar to one of the Twin Towers, the top of the building is ablaze, with; brick, ash
and various pieces of shrapnel falling to the ground. With this powerful image we, before we have
even seen the movie, receive flashbacks of the tragic events of 9/11. The poster as well as promoting
Batman, makes us subconsciously, maybe naively, want to see the movie as it is related to the horrible
attacks on New York. Again in relation to the 9/11 attacks, people may want to watch the film to see
how terrorism is portrayed in the movie,

I step out of the dark hut that my family lives in and onto the grounds of my lord s manor, which are
being lit by the slowing rising sun. I see other people coming from their huts to the fields. There s
something that doesn t feel right. Not that there are people heading to the fields that s our daily lives.
It feels odd because it is mostly women who are walking towards the fields, since many of our men
have left to fight battles with the lord of the manor. In fact, that is why I am walking to the field,
because my father and my brothers have gone to fight. I am now the only one of my family who can
go work in the fields. My mother stays and takes care of our baby brother and the other children are
too young to work in the fields. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A deep, loud sound echoing across my home. It can only mean one thing: Run for the manor. I clutch
my basket full of nuts as I race through the trees back to the main grounds. The horn would only be
sounded if the absolute worst happened we were being attacked. As I near the main grounds, I can
hear the shrieks of the others as they drop what they are doing and being to run. It may be my
imagination, but I think I hear horses pounding against the earth. Just a little further. I hear something
crash into the fields behind me. Before I can see what it was, the lord of the manor streaks past me
with full armor on and his sword at his side. It seems his battles were not successful... I am huddled in
the corner with my family and our animals. My sisters are playing with my baby brother and my
mother is receiving orders from the lord of the house. I look out the window to see what has happened.
Our grounds appear to be untouched, except for the damage done by our men rushing in. I wonder
where the enemy is? Listen children, the lord wants us to stay in here and be quiet for awhile. We are
going to have dinner and then go to bed. My mother looked at all of us with worried eyes. It seems
that our lord has failed in completely protecting

Personal Life Interview
I. Introduction: Personal Life intersected with Observed Research
Coming to Calvin as a shelter child that I still am today. My eyes were open to a lot of different things
that I never heard of at all. Living here in Grand Rapids I didn t think I was going to come to school
here at all. But here I am here for the next four years trying to figure out what I want to do with my
life, trying to find my American dream. Through my research I interviewed 4 peers, 3 adults my
parents age, and 2 adults my grandparents generation. After each interview I asked them their
demographics of who they are in the work force to get a better background of their story. I listened to
the interview a few timed to gather as much information on what the interviewer ... Show more

The stats show that 23% of African Americans who were raised in a middle class family were able to
surpass their parents compared to 56% of caucasian children. This was shown in the movie that we
watched in class a few weeks ago, where they showed what the different types of classes taught and
showed the american dream through their lives. Literary review s provide similarities and defines
differences in analysis. In my research, on the concept of The American dream through generations, I
have come to understand the concepts with a feminist perspective. Part of Sociology deals with gender
inequality, race, age, and class and though my research, I explored options of inequality through
gender and how each factor interacts with each other. From a feminist perspective, one emphasizes
women, their experiences, and their role in society while promoting equality in gender. Cultural
aspects and generational stereotypes are also addressed. Not only does this perspective deal with
females, but also with male roles in society, how to explain social differences between genders, and
gender oppression. Other questions feminist look at are how do men and women s values differ and
how men and women perspectives change in

Humpback Research Paper
Of course, no whale is more important than the other. However, the Humpback Whale is the most
marvelous creature of all of them. A typical Humpback Whale is 40 tons, and grows up to 40 to 60
feet long. It is known as the fifth largest whale in the world. Humpbacks are known as omnivores.
This means that they eat fish and plants in the ocean. The worldwide population of a Humpback is at
least 80,000 whales in all. They are known to be migrants just like other baleen whales. Unfortunately,
these innocent Humpbacks are currently endangered. Many of them are endangered, because whale
hunters kill them for the supply of oil and baleen. Humpbacks are compelling mammals because they
have a detailed body, odd habits, a diverse diet, and a vast habitat. Humpbacks have an intricate body
design. For example, they have black and white patterns and scars, which are all different compared to
other whales. The researchers use these differences to tell each individual whale apart. Humpbacks did
not just get it s name for no particular reason. They are called Humpbacks , because when they dive
they bend their back forming a bump. The shape of their head looks very similar to the shape of an
alligator head. In addition, there is a mouthline that runs along the length of the head, but barely

Baleen whales are called migrants, which is why Humpbacks are always traveling in different
directions. While these whales are traveling they always travel close to the coasts of the ocean. They
migrate according to seasons. For example, in the Summer the North Pacific Whales will travel south.
The reason for this is because they always travel to the warm waters during breeding seasons.
However, they travel back north in the winter, so they can feed there. They are often found in Hawaii
or Baja, Mexico in the winter. Clearly, Humpbacks are continually moving and never stay in one place

Summary Of The Mikado
Mikado Position Paper The Mikado is a comic operetta, in two acts, composed in 1885. It was first
performed on stage at the Savoy Theatre, in London. It has been said that this operetta consists of
racist comments and stereotyping. After thoroughly researching about The Mikado, I have come to the
conclusion that The Mikado production in Seattle is offensive, due to their choice of portrayal. This
operetta intended to satire the British society, not the Japanese people. In my opinion, the goal of a
satire is not accomplished. The librettist merely jokes about the British politics through the eyes of
Japanese people. This makes it offensive because, at that time, the Japanese were killed and driven out
in the 1800s. What was accepted then does not justify its perpetuation today. People should not be
insensitive to the dangers of stereotyping in public as they can cause damage that a lot of people are
unaware of (Northwestern Asian Weekly, 2014).
To being with, the Seattle production of this operetta hired white actors to play Japanese people. It was
entirely comprised of white actors who are transformed into Japanese characters with the help of
makeup. Where did all the Asian actors go? What made Gilbert want to utilize white actors? The white
actors dressed up to depict Japanese people is unfair because they are portrayed as archaic, and is not
even relevant to this time. Japan was not even part of the British politics at that time, yet Japanese
people are the pawn

Comparing Fear In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Pit And The Pen
Can fear actually be beneficial to us? It may be able to alert us to harm. It is a survival instinct after
all. On the other hand, fear can cause us to get carried away until we develop more serious afflictions,
such as paranoia or obsessions, causing us to make quick decisions that aren t well thought out. Poe
illustrates this dilemma in The Tell Tale Heart, The Masque of Red Death, and The Pit and the
Pendulum. Poe uses symbolism, irony, and figurative language to show how paranoia affects the
characters train of thought, and its consequences. Poe demonstrates the downside of fear through his
use of symbolism. This is presented through old man´s eye from ¨The Tell Tale Heart, which appears
strange due to cataracts. The narrator remarks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen by how the narrator uses a simile to describe the Old Man´s heartbeat. While the
narrator describes killing the old man, he stated, ¨It was the beating of the old man´s heart. It increased
my fury, as the beating of a drum stimulates the soldier into courage (76). The narrator convinces
himself to kill the Old Man, and is convinced he is doing a courageous thing. Fear had warped his
mind so much that he thought murdering an innocent man was righteous. He let his obsession grow
until it totally distorted his judgement. The next example is an alliteration used by the narrator in The
Pit and the Pendulum. The narrator describes, My cognizance of the pit had become known to the
inquisitorial agents the pit whose horrors had been destined for so bold a recusant as myself the pit,
typical of hell, and regarded by rumor as the Ultima Thulme of all their punishments (69). The
narrator s fear of the pit grows so strong it begins to warp his sense of reality. He begins to wonder if
he is literally in hell, and has the worst punishment you can get. Fear makes the narrator s makes the

Catcher in the Rye Archetypal Analysis
INTRODUCTION Jerome David Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, is a work of fiction and a tragic
comedy. It is an interesting and controversial novel. Though controversial, the novel appealed to a
great number of people. It was a hugely popular bestseller and general critical success. I chose this
novel because of the negative status it has with parents, teachers, and school. I wanted to discover
what the roots of this controversy are. The main character, Holden Caulfield, tells about his life before
and after he was kicked out from Pencey Prep. The novel was told in first person through the eyes of
the narrator, Holden. He recalls the events as a series of flashbacks placing the setting of the story in
his mind. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe Holden s alienation is the cause of most of his pains. Just like the character in the movie, The
Good Girl , wherein Tom Worther is a loner like Holden. Holden s loneliness was a more concrete
manifestation of his alienation. It is both a source of great pain and a source if his security. And so,
Holden left school planning to spend some time on his own in New York City, where he lives. On the
train to New York, Holden meets a mother of his fellow Pencey student. Though he thinks that this
student is a complete bastard , he tells a woman made up stories about her son. He lied to the woman.
But lying to others is also a kind of phoniness, right? A type of deception that indicates insensitivity or
even cruelty. Holden proves that he is just guilty of phoniness as the people he criticizes. The Road of
Trials When Holden arrives New York, he tried to call several people but for various reasons he
decided against it. Holden doesn t seem to know what to do in New York since he is three days earlier
as expected by his parents. So he rode a cab and he asked the cab driver where the ducks in Central
Park go when the lagoon freezes, but his question annoys the driver. He turned around and looked at
me like I was a madman What re ya tryna do, bud? He said. Kid me? This quotation is Holden s
conversation with the cab driver. I think Holden is being prejudged by the driver. Holden only want to

Imperialism In Uganda
During the imperialism in Africa, a lot of different events happened in Uganda. The imperialism had
effects on the country, some of the effects benefited the country, and some did not. Mostly, it did not
benefit the country. The British did most things to only benefit themselves, and did not care about
what happened to the citizens of Uganda. The British only wanted power over the country, and to
make a profit. Before the imperialism, Uganda was a prosperous country. They were one of the most
powerful and the largest kingdoms in Africa. was heralded for its royal history and development as a
center of learning and culture...it descended into chaos and destruction with the rise to power of a
despotic military leader...begun to reestablish itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also had truces now with other organizations, like the UNFR. There was a organization called
the Lord s Resistance Army and they would attack the country. They kidnapped children and caused
more people to flee. They killed many people in Uganda to rebel. Uganda tried to contact them to stop
this rebelling, but they did not. Uganda tried to meet up with the leader of the group, but they did not
show up. They tried to make peace and come to an agreement to stop, but they did not want to. The
leader of the Lord s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony, again fails to turn up for the signing of a peace
agreement ( Uganda Profile Timeline ). Uganda is putting a lot of effort into trying to settle things
with the LRA, but the LRA does not want to settle any of their disputes. Uganda wants everything to
be mostly peaceful again, but they cannot do that without the LRA stopping their unnecessary attacks
against Uganda. The LRA and Ugandans end up signing a truce after having several peace talks,
causing a ceasefire. British imperialism did many things for the Ugandans. It did both good, and bad,
but the British did not do much to help them. The country was stable before the British came, but
after, they were not doing that well. Uganda did become stable eventually after the British. They
helped them obtain more resources and ways of transportation, but they took over their government.
The British only cared about what was good for themselves and were greedy. They only wanted power
and control over the country, they did not have many means to help them out, without mostly

Renaissance And Artemisia Gentileschi ( Baroque )
Lane Sofonisba Anguissola (Renaissance) and Artemisia Gentileschi(Baroque) The renaissance began
in Italy from the 14th to the 16th century, and was followed by the baroque period which roughly was
between 16th to 17th century, each revolutionized the period prior. This is perfectly represented by
two very different and yet very similar artists: Sofonisba Anguissola and Artemisia Gentileschi.
Though one more so paved the way for the other, there connection appears to have nearly materialized
out of thin air, and begs the age old psychological question of nature Vs. nurture.
Anguissola started life in Cremona, Italy in about 1532, during the renaissance period. She would go
on to dazzle all those before her with her virtuousness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is similar to Gentileschi, who moved to a variety of places such as London, Florence, Venice, and
Naples. I suspect that the two mutually wanted to escape and pursue brighter futures while developing
their already noteworthy talents. Another interesting commonality between the two is that Anguissola
s mother died when she was around 4 or 5. Similarly, Gentileschi lost her mother at a young age, when
she was around 12 years old. Gentileschi must have struggled more as a result than her fortunate
predecessor, as she was not from prestigious family. Her father was a fairly well known artist who
worshipped Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio s style, especially his use of tenebrism. This adoration
was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style. Intriguingly, there is a bizarre
connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that Anguissola had sent to the famed
artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more famous one), had ended up in a
notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have been discovered by Caravaggio, which
later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . There is a clear connection through time between
these two women. Yet, in a way seems to have been founded through pure chance and phenomenon.
As hard as it is to believe, this is not the only person who intertwines these women together. Anthony
Van Dyke visited Anguissola when she was very old, and blind, but spent hours

Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman
Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to
revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the
ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman
depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help
provide this claim.
Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden
meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if you
pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story. In the
third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you were to change
music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear and anguish they
are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female characters as a way to
contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had beans (Stanza 4). Little
descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to her and being grateful ...

The Worldcom Whistleblower Case
While, Theranos has appeared recently in the news and is definitely a sign that whistleblowers are
needed and companies are still willing t
o bend the rules with complete disregard of the consequences,
which are much larger than simply fines. The Worldcom whistleblower case is incredibly important
because it is often viewed as one case that a whistleblower changed corporate America. The
Worldcom case led to legislature changes and the creation of Sarbanes Oxley Act and even the
creation of many internal controls within corporate America s organizations. I think the Worldcom
whistleblower was not only a positive for that business, which closing of a business can be a positive
in the light of poor ethics, but the effects were a positive essentially for corporate America across the
board.
Currently, a large problem exists with organizations flirting with the line of ethics as a result of strict

feel safe exposing a company. This should be a huge concern, as preventing unethical behavior should
be a huge priority. When companies are damaged by unethical behavior or even close, a lot of harm is

Greek Influence On Hollywood
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood black list forever altered the direction of American film
making standards. Before the Paramount decision, major Hollywood studios owned a monopoly on
the movie industry. They bought their own movie theaters and hawked only their movies and also
forced movie stars into highly restrictive contracts. The Hollywood blacklistk, on the other hand, was
a time in history when the American Government focused on Hollywood to make sure they weren t
pushing a communist agenda on the public. They scrutinized many actors and directors and black
listed them from working in Hollywood. These events made a large change in the way movies were
produced and made the people of Hollywood question their rights as movie makers. The Paramount
decision was a supreme court ruling in 1948 against the major film studios in Hollywood. The studios
were Loew s incorporated, Fox, RKO, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Brothers, also called The big 5
. The court ruled for the elimination of block booking and blind buying. Block booking meant that a
studio would sell its films in packages on an all or nothing basis, usually theaters had to buy several ...

Has the Development of Human Resource Management Practices...
Trade unions have been a central part of the Australian workplace. The workplace however has
changed over the past two decades and it is possible that the role of trade unions within the workplace
has been replaced by the introduction of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices. As stated by
Leigh, 2005 from 1914 until 1980, at least two in five workers were members of a union and unionism
was therefore for the most part the dominant approach, in terms of employment relations. However
current membership is at around 20 per cent and coinciding with this decline in trade union
membership is the increase in the step away from collectivism to individualism and the use of
strategic HRM practices in response to the shift from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, recognising human resources as assets as they strive for effective organisational
performance. HRM is essentially an approach rooted in the concept of individualism whereby
employers deal with workers individually and or individual employees prefer to look after their own
interests rather than relying on third parties (Balnave et al, 2009). HRM emerged in Australia during
the 1980 s, with both the hard and soft approach being applied to the Australian workforce. Both focus
on corporate performance, with the hard approach viewing employees as a commodity and
emphasising job standarisation, employee measurement and organisational values and priorities
(Balnave et al, 2009). The soft approach however has a humanistic view that emphasises employee
empowerment as they work towards meeting organisational and personal objectives. With this in
mind, the practices employed by the HRM approach have been identified as crucial in developing
sustainable competitive advantage for organisations. They include; selectivity in recruiting, equal
employment opportunity, training and development, strategic rewards systems/pay for performance
and dismissal (Flanagan and Deshpande, 1996). The strategic approach to recruitment and selection
ensures that a great emphasis is placed on employee potential and personal characteristics with
staffing linked to organisation s objectives and

Examples Of Rebellion In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Rebellion, especially in a community, is when insurgence takes place. It is usually done to create a
change and heighten a community. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows itself
through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems.
Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals
like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be in
a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that sooner or
later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder of your
lives! And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that future
generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious, (Chapter 1). Old Major means that the
animals should think of rebellion throughout their life. The animals believe Old Major, and they ...

the animals ultimate demise. Again Orwell writes, Rumours of a wonderful farm, where the human
beings had been turned out and the animals managed their own affairs, continued to circulate in vague
and distorted forms, and throughout that year a wave of rebelliousness ran through the countryside.
(Chapter 4). The animals everywhere heard about the rebelliousness of Animal Farm, and how
successful they believed it was. They all decided to rebel to try to be like the wonderful Animal Farm.

Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self, the story The King of a Vast Empire talks about how
traumatic events affect a family s bond. The main trauma in this story is a car accident that haunts this
family. Liddie, Terrance, and their parents got in a car accident one night. The dad was driving the car
when he was going around a dark curve in the road and hit another car. The other car was stopped in
the middle on the road because there was a fallen lumber in the middle of the road that their dad was
trying to remove. The other car did not have their emergency lights on. When the dad hit the car, all of

The father s drinking and the mother s temper result from the emotional impact of the devastating
accident. The family eventually had to move to other city because they could not bear living their
anymore because of the car accident. Not only did the accident affect the mom and dad, it affected the
children. A traumatic event can have a serious impact of the children that were involved in the car
accident. It was not until a year after the car accident that Liddie started to talk again. The kids grew
closer together. The King of a Vast Empire perfectly captures what it s like to be a brother and sister
united by grief and misunderstanding (VanDerWerff). The siblings were united by the trauma of the
car accident and became better friends. They only paid attention to yell at them. Terrance would
confront Liddie when she would have nightmares from the car accident: Liddie brought her

DP Plans for City Level Infrastructure Facilities
CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION
The DP is a broad brush development vision for the city. DP is a dynamic document which then is
detailed gradually. The DP plans for city level infrastructure facilities. Every state has the provision
for preparation of such city level spatial plan laid out under their respective Town Planning Acts which
in turn provides for city level facilities and amenities. City level infrastructures are marked and
planned at DP level while neighbourhood facilities are carved out at neighbourhood level planning. In
GTPUDA 1976 there are provisions for providing neighbourhood level social infrastructure under the
TPS mechanism. Town planning scheme is used very effectively and successively across Gujarat. It
has proven that TPS mechanism is best tool if it is used at its fullest for generating neighbourhood
level social infrastructure. From the case study of AUDA, 132 ft ring road it is found that through TPS
mechanism large amount of land can be generated for providing infrastructure which can serve city
level facility. At places where such facilities are already available, the land made available from
deductions has also been used for generating revenue. In case study of GUDA TPS 19 large scale city
level institutional area could be carved out due to larger amount of government land in the particular
TPS.
At present time when the delineations are done majority of land is used in facilities which are
generating revenue. A city level or district level road will

  • 2. Chemistry Lab And Organic Chemistry After a harsh Wednesday due to Chemistry Lab and Organic Chemistry, I enjoy sitting in the patio area of Cafe 1919 and enjoy a Panini along with a Caprese salad. Both the main dish and side contain a fruit I once hated as a child. Tomato have always been the part of the burger I threw out, the part of the salad I did not touch, the part I could never swallow. Even throughout high school, I always hated tomatoes, but ever since I got to UCLA my love for this fruit exponentially grew out of nowhere. One day as I was enjoying my usual Wednesday lunch, I wonder what gave these little morsels such a juicy taste. Perhaps UCLA does but the best fruit and vegetables for their students, perhaps the oil the tomatoes bathe in give it its rich taste, or perhaps we have those hidden GMO, gentically modified organisms, that people argue over its stability. I search if there is any known gentically altered tomatoes and the search engine directed me to links that talk about a product known as the Flavr Savr. Interesting enough the product known as the Flavr Savr, which is a gentically altered tomato is actually the first FDA approved GMO to hit to the market. After discovering the first ever GMO my curious mind started asking questions that I needed to know. I wonder what exactly is the Flavr Sav? When was it created? Who created it and how? Was there a reason they chose to mess with the DNA of a tomato? How did people response to the first of many gentically altered food? Is the Flavr ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Frederick II Compare And Contrast Essay Emperor Frederick II of Germany and King Louis IX of France were both important figureheads of the crusades as they personally prepared for the departure and led the army to the Holy Land. This indicated a transition of responsibility for crusading from the Church to royal figures. Even though Louis IX s crusades failed and Frederick II s crusade gained control of the Holy Land, Louis IX became a saint whereas Frederick II was declared the Antichrist. Therefore, the outcome of the crusades led by both kings did not determine the public s approval and disapproval. Despite failing both of his crusades, Louis IX became a saint because of his sincere intention and devotion to liberate the Holy Land. Frederick II, on the other hand, was indifferent toward the faith and the main purpose for him to lead the crusade was to acquire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other than various documents praising Louis personality, even his enemy praised him for being noble. Since his father took part in the Albigensian Crusade, Louis grew up in a family of past crusaders with chivalry tradition. Therefore, he had a strong sense of justice and religious identity. Louis was passionate about leading his own crusade in order to save Jerusalem and restore the honor of the Church. He used most of France s resources to fund the crusades during the preparation process. Louis also gained Innocent IV s trust since the pope gave Louis one tenth of his church s revenue. Even after losing his first crusade, the king took full responsible for it and committed to his position as a ruler of France for penance. Meanwhile, he still assisted the crusader kingdom in different ways such as sending them funds from France. During his trip to the Holy Land, all people joyfully welcomed him. Louis s presence had stabilized Jerusalem s internal conflicts. Furthermore, Louis improved the defenses of the crusader ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Learning And Development Processes Of A Child The learning and development processes of a child have been debated for years, with no one theory sticking out as the best explanation as to how and why we learn. Looking at the behaviourist and humanist views of learning and development and the key theorists within them, you can see just how different they can be with their explanations of this. The key behaviourist views on learning are that learning is shaped by different incentives presented to the child. External stimulus shapes learning, as it prompts a response and increases the likelihood of the learner repeating the behaviour. Behaviourists believe development happens as a process of learning and that it has nothing to do with pre determined stages relating to a child s age and or mental ability. The behaviourist view works on a mix of operant and classical conditioning, operant conditioning is a process of learning where behaviour is controlled by consequences such as positive and negative reinforcements and positive and negative punishments. Classical conditioning is when the learner simply responds to external stimuli in a deterministic manner (Jordan, Carlile, and Stack, 2008). Pavlov, a behaviourist, looked deeply into the idea of classical conditioning and involuntary responses to stimuli. Pavlov looked at the responses of dogs and found that when the dog was presented with food the dog would salivate, which would be an unconditional response. But, when combined with the ringing of a bell as the food was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. United Kingdom s Employment Law and Relationships Wedderburn has a significant point in his statement that United Kingdom employment relationships are highly regulated by law. It would be more accurate, however, to state that there are certain areas of employment law that are well regulated from a variety of different sources. Prior to denoting just what these sources are and what effects they have on various employers, employees, and organized labor unions, however, it is necessary to delineate the development of employment law throughout the United Kingdom which, given this region s lengthy history, is fairly recent. Prior to the midway point of the 20th century, there was no employment law in the UK or throughout various other parts of Europe as well. For the most part, all employment relationships took the form of master/servant roles, with the latter having fairly little say in the terms and conditions of their employment. In the 1960 s, however, this decidedly laissez faire approach was replaced by a few minimum standards protocols that dealt with safety and economic dismissal. One of the regulations that emerged regarding the latter topic was the 1965 Redundancy Payment Act, which issued stipulations and standards for termination (Gunter, 1965). Trade unions truly emerged as a powerhouse and one of the key drivers for employment relationship in the 1970 s. Collective bargaining was rampant and even advocated by governmental entities to prevent strikes from occurring. Perhaps the most important aspect of this epoch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Hypocrite Of Women By Denise Levertov Hypocrite of Women, by Denise Levertov seems to contain a deep message within its playful wording. The basic meaning that I was able to pull from within this was that as women we are hypocrites, because we will shun others within society for what we consider to be inappropriate behavior, or below the standards of society, however when it comes down to our own personal faults within our characters, we tend to overlook them or ignore them. This is a fascinating poem because I feel like it does reflect how society was as well as is today. In The Ache of Marriage, I was able to discern that Denise Levertov s goal was to explore the pain of an unwanted marriage. The pain that she reflects within her writing seems to be of both an emotional and a physical basis. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She seems to be saying that without the pain and the tribulations, a marriage wouldn t be worth as much. It s almost like she says that the sacrifices are what makes the marriage worth it. The pain of this marriage results in the ultimate achievement of the objective of marriage. The poem states that all the aches and pains of marriage are worth going through because the love of another is epic. I found that the two of these poems together were a fascinating combination, because one speaks of the hypocrisy of not doing anything about the flaws in a person s own characteristics, and the other seems to say to live with the pain that you have to live with the faults; through doing so one will find bliss; it is worth the sacrifice. I like the fact that they seem to contradict one another because as people in general we tend to contradict ourselves. As a reader I was able to connect to both of these particular poems by Denise Levertov, because I was able to see how in my own life where I might have judged another for some preconceived idea that society laid before me, yet not think twice about what I ... Out of the eleven organizations, I only went up to three organizations because I was more interested in their companies. The first company I went up to was Shaw because Shaw is a carpet company that I want to start off for my first job. When I went up to the two ladies, I introduced myself and stating what I am majoring in and what I am looking for. One of the ladies provided me information whether the company had a position open for any accounting. Unfortunately, the company did not have any opening. She told me after graduation to look at their website for any open position, so I left her a copy of my resume. After having my first conversation, I realize I forgot to ask her for a business card. It is important for me to ask for a business card, so I can email them if I have any questions. • 9. Persuasive Essay On Mass Shootings There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all over the world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing other people and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass shootings in the United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty five years there have been seven hundred and twenty two and then one thousand one hundred seventy seven (Chris Wilson). If you look at the number of people that are killed or being wounded, you will notice that with new devices being introduced. One of the devices that have been introduced is a bump stock. This device is a stock for a semi automatic rifle that can basically turn your semi automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle. They are considering making this attachment to a rifle illegal to the public. A bump stock it should be banned, it should be disallowed, it should be wiped off of the face of the earth, said Steven Wolfson, the district attorney of Clarkson county, Nevada, which includes Las Vegas (Shortell). The Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017 killed fifty nine people and injured five hundred twenty seven others. The shooter had twenty three firearms in his hotel room and twenty of them were rifles and most of them were equipped with bump stocks. Most people did not have a problem with the bump stock until certain people started using them to shoot and kill humans in mass shootings. People are trying to get these bump stocks banned because of this reason: mass shootings. Bump stocks are not the reason for mass shootings, but they allow the gun man s rifle to shoot faster. With the gun firing faster the gun man can kill more people because there is more projectiles firing from the gun. Most people want the bump stock to be banned in every state. Citizens of the United States will probably begin to buy these bump stocks because they will probably be banned soon. If they talk about banning certain bump stocks or all of them, people will go out and begin to buy them before they are not available anymore. • 10. The Mental Illness Of The United States Essay Lydia Anderson Period 1 There are many people in the United States that have a mental illness that is either not able to be treated or is never diagnosed at all. This is because treatment is very expensive and hard to access, and without proactive care of the mentally ill there can be various unfortunate outcomes, sadly including, death. So, why is access to mental health care so limited and what is the government of Ohio doing to solve it and what else should be done? Mental illnesses are very common in the United States, with one in five of adolescents having a diagnosed mental illness and in the last year less than half of these adolescents have received proper treatment. The most common mental disorders, anxiety and depression, can disrupt daily life and result in suicide, which is the third most frequent cause of death in teenagers ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). Ten percent of adolescents did not have health insurance in 2013 and those who did, had a very limited amount of mental health care services provided to them ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). It has been proved that it is even less likely that adolescents who are poor, homeless, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender will receive the care that is necessary for their health and even life ( The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ). • 13. Discrimination Is A Problem Since The Beginning Of Time Discrimination has been a problem since the beginning of time. Discrimination is mentioned in many pieces of classical literature such as Shakespeare s Othello. In this classical play the main character Othello is never truly accepted into the Venetian society because he is a Moor from Northern Africa. His skin color caused people to view him differently and also presented problems when he tried to find a wife. After he eventually found and married Desdemona her father Brabantio still did not approve of him; he said She, in spite of nature, Of years, of country, credit, everything, To fall in love with what she feared to look on! It is a judgment maimed and most imperfect That will confess perfection so could err Against all rules of nature (Act I, Scene 3). Brabantio saw this love as unnatural because he believes Desdemona would never fall in love with a black man who she was afraid to look upon. Before Othello married Desdemona Brabantio saw him as an honorable leader and great man, but after their marriage he accuses him of black magic and urges their marriage to be annulled by the Duke. This discrimination led to Othello s doubt and self conscience attitude which, ultimately leads to his demise at the end of the play. Discrimination continues to exist today as it did 400 years ago in Shakespeare s time. Today people are still discriminated against and persecuted because of their race or their religious views. Or what way do I have of knowing that if I say I don t know something I don t really in fact know it?[6] The second teaching in Discussions on making all things equal seems to be an important element in the Chuang Tzu. It is more obvious than some of the obscure lessons and begins with an almost introductory sentence, Watson s translation reads; Do you know what all things agree in calling right? Wang Ni explains that the values of each creature are incredibly different and of course he doesn t know what each creature considers right. The message in the story seems to signify that wrong and right are so complicated that they practically don t exist. Finally in the chapter, Chuang Tzu introduces a concept that translates as the Transformation of Things.[7] The concept is illustrated through the story of Chuang Chou dreaming he were a butterfly. This concept of a questionable reality is fascinating and mysterious and it gives an idea of where Chuang Tzu was coming from with his abstract descriptions and ideas. It seems common among many translations of the second chapter that Discussions on making all things equal bears the message that there is no right or wrong in the teachings of Chang Tzu as it is repeated several times. Similarities Between New France And Midlanders New France s ideals of tolerance, a general distaste for hierarchy, and independence, aligned directly with the Midlanders acceptance of the natives, their belief that all were equal in the eyes of God, and their view on the government and religion. At the beginning of New France s creation, Samuel de Champlain had a radical idea. He felt that this new settlement should coexist in a friendly, respectful alliance with the Native American nations in whose territories it would be embedded (Woodard 35). Just like the Midlanders, New France felt that no one in the colony was above one another after the feudal system dissolved. It has been said that this operetta consists of racist comments and stereotyping. After thoroughly researching about The Mikado, I have come to the conclusion that The Mikado production in Seattle is offensive, due to their choice of portrayal. This operetta intended to satire the British society, not the Japanese people. In my opinion, the goal of a satire is not accomplished. The librettist merely jokes about the British politics through the eyes of Japanese people. This makes it offensive because, at that time, the Japanese were killed and driven out in the 1800s. What was accepted then does not justify its perpetuation today. People should not be insensitive to the dangers of stereotyping in public as they can cause damage that a lot of people are unaware of (Northwestern Asian Weekly, 2014). To being with, the Seattle production of this operetta hired white actors to play Japanese people. It was entirely comprised of white actors who are transformed into Japanese characters with the help of makeup. Where did all the Asian actors go? What made Gilbert want to utilize white actors? Her father was a fairly well known artist who worshipped Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio s style, especially his use of tenebrism. This adoration was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style. Intriguingly, there is a bizarre connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that Anguissola had sent to the famed artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more famous one), had ended up in a notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have been discovered by Caravaggio, which later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . There is a clear connection through time between these two women. Yet, in a way seems to have been founded through pure chance and phenomenon. As hard as it is to believe, this is not the only person who intertwines these women together. Anthony Van Dyke visited Anguissola when she was very old, and blind, but spent hours ... • 29. Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help provide this claim. Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if you pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story. In the third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you were to change music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear and anguish they are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female characters as a way to contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had beans (Stanza 4). Little descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to her and being grateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes (Stanza 2) and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these innocent people were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families of the soldiers who have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal imagery to drive their point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close (Stanza 8) and they stripped us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10). Both these literal images show what happened to these people and how they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Worldcom Whistleblower Case While, Theranos has appeared recently in the news and is definitely a sign that whistleblowers are needed and companies are still willing t o bend the rules with complete disregard of the consequences, which are much larger than simply fines. The Worldcom whistleblower case is incredibly important because it is often viewed as one case that a whistleblower changed corporate America. The Worldcom case led to legislature changes and the creation of Sarbanes Oxley Act and even the creation of many internal controls within corporate America s organizations. I think the Worldcom whistleblower was not only a positive for that business, which closing of a business can be a positive in the light of poor ethics, but the effects were a positive essentially for corporate America across the board. Currently, a large problem exists with organizations flirting with the line of ethics as a result of strict focus on financial profits. Whiteblowing has a derogatory or negative connotation to ... Edward Snowden is in a different country under aslyum and regardless of political views, there was no safety for him. These two situations prove that there is little to no protection for whisteblowers. Overall, there is nothing that would make more individuals feel safe exposing a company. This should be a huge concern, as preventing unethical behavior should be a huge priority. When companies are damaged by unethical behavior or even close, a lot of harm is caused that more than likely could have been prevented. Corporate America needs to decide if ethics and achieving profit can have synergy and be achieved, or if pleasing shareholders has created a conflict of interest with ... • 31. Greek Influence On Hollywood The Paramount decision and the Hollywood black list forever altered the direction of American film making standards. Before the Paramount decision, major Hollywood studios owned a monopoly on the movie industry. They bought their own movie theaters and hawked only their movies and also forced movie stars into highly restrictive contracts. The Hollywood blacklistk, on the other hand, was a time in history when the American Government focused on Hollywood to make sure they weren t pushing a communist agenda on the public. They scrutinized many actors and directors and black listed them from working in Hollywood. These events made a large change in the way movies were produced and made the people of Hollywood question their rights as movie makers. The Paramount decision was a supreme court ruling in 1948 against the major film studios in Hollywood. The studios were Loew s incorporated, Fox, RKO, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Brothers, also called The big 5 . The court ruled for the elimination of block booking and blind buying. Block booking meant that a studio would sell its films in packages on an all or nothing basis, usually theaters had to buy several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Has the Development of Human Resource Management Practices... Trade unions have been a central part of the Australian workplace. The workplace however has changed over the past two decades and it is possible that the role of trade unions within the workplace has been replaced by the introduction of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices. As stated by Leigh, 2005 from 1914 until 1980, at least two in five workers were members of a union and unionism was therefore for the most part the dominant approach, in terms of employment relations. However current membership is at around 20 per cent and coinciding with this decline in trade union membership is the increase in the step away from collectivism to individualism and the use of strategic HRM practices in response to the shift from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, recognising human resources as assets as they strive for effective organisational performance. HRM is essentially an approach rooted in the concept of individualism whereby employers deal with workers individually and or individual employees prefer to look after their own interests rather than relying on third parties (Balnave et al, 2009). HRM emerged in Australia during the 1980 s, with both the hard and soft approach being applied to the Australian workforce. Both focus on corporate performance, with the hard approach viewing employees as a commodity and emphasising job standarisation, employee measurement and organisational values and priorities (Balnave et al, 2009). The soft approach however has a humanistic view that emphasises employee empowerment as they work towards meeting organisational and personal objectives. With this in mind, the practices employed by the HRM approach have been identified as crucial in developing sustainable competitive advantage for organisations. They include; selectivity in recruiting, equal employment opportunity, training and development, strategic rewards systems/pay for performance and dismissal (Flanagan and Deshpande, 1996). The strategic approach to recruitment and selection ensures that a great emphasis is placed on employee potential and personal characteristics with staffing linked to organisation s objectives and ... • 33. Examples Of Rebellion In Animal Farm By George Orwell Rebellion, especially in a community, is when insurgence takes place. It is usually done to create a change and heighten a community. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows itself through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems. Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that sooner or later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder of your lives! And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that future generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious, (Chapter 1). Again Orwell writes, Rumours of a wonderful farm, where the human beings had been turned out and the animals managed their own affairs, continued to circulate in vague and distorted forms, and throughout that year a wave of rebelliousness ran through the countryside. The King of a Vast Empire perfectly captures what it s like to be a brother and sister united by grief and misunderstanding (VanDerWerff). The siblings were united by the trauma of the car accident and became better friends. They only paid attention to yell at them. Terrance would confront Liddie when she would have nightmares from the car accident: Liddie brought her nightmares to me; I did what I could to comfort her (Evans, The King of a Vast Empire. 128). Liddie and Terrance grow closer to one another. When Liddie decided not to come home from Thanksgiving when she was in college, Terrence s mom bought him a ticket and went to see her for the Thanksgiving. • 35. DP Plans for City Level Infrastructure Facilities CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION The DP is a broad brush development vision for the city. DP is a dynamic document which then is detailed gradually. The DP plans for city level infrastructure facilities. Every state has the provision for preparation of such city level spatial plan laid out under their respective Town Planning Acts which in turn provides for city level facilities and amenities. City level infrastructures are marked and planned at DP level while neighbourhood facilities are carved out at neighbourhood level planning. In GTPUDA 1976 there are provisions for providing neighbourhood level social infrastructure under the TPS mechanism. Town planning scheme is used very effectively and successively across Gujarat. It has proven that TPS mechanism is best tool if it is used at its fullest for generating neighbourhood level social infrastructure. From the case study of AUDA, 132 ft ring road it is found that through TPS mechanism large amount of land can be generated for providing infrastructure which can serve city level facility. At places where such facilities are already available, the land made available from deductions has also been used for generating revenue. In case study of GUDA TPS 19 large scale city level institutional area could be carved out due to larger amount of government land in the particular TPS. At present time when the delineations are done majority of land is used in facilities which are generating revenue. A city level or district level road will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
