Research Methodology Within The Nes 2012 Codebook
3. Research Methodology Within the NES 2012 Codebook, there are three questions I intend to
examine. This first is labeled PRESVOTE2012_X in which the respondent specifies whether they
voted for Obama, Romney, or other. The next question is labeled INCGROUP_PREPOST and asks
the respondent to specify their level of family income beginning with under $5,000 going up to
$250,000 or more. As a result of this question providing 28 different categories, for the purpose of my
paper and tables, I recoded the INCGROUP_PREPOST variable to become income4 in which the
results would be provided within four income categories, as opposed to the 28. The last question I will
be looking at is labeled GENDER_RESPONDENT and asks the respondent to provide ... Show more

Since 79.38 is larger than 12.592, I can reject the null hypothesis and conclude this data to be
statistically significant. My P value is 0.00 and with a significance level of 0.05, I am able to reject the
null hypothesis that income does not influence vote choice and I am able to conclude that income does
have an effect on vote choice.

shows that 48.7% of those in the male category voted for Obama, while 54.9% of those in the female
category voted for Obama. The data does tend to support my hypothesis that females are more likely
to vote for the Democratic candidate. There is a 6.2% difference between males that voted for Obama
and females that voted for Obama, which is significant enough to observe a deviance but not to
generalize all men and women, as there may be outliers. My Chi square number is 30.95 and

Hurdle And Gerrit Cole In Major League Baseball
Imagine it is the final game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season in the seventh inning of an
interleague game between the National League (NL) Pittsburgh Pirates and the American League (AL)
Toronto Blue Jays. Gerrit Cole is pitching for the hometown Pirates and is having an exceptional
game, allowing only one unearned run. The Jays lead 1 0 and Gerrit Cole is up next to bat. The
question then for General Manager, Clint Hurdle, is whether to pinch hit for him in exchange for a
better hitter, or to leave him in the game so he can continue to pitch. If only there was a way to keep
Cole in the game, while having someone like Pedro Alvarez; a non everyday starter who can hit the
ball, pinch hit and give their team the best chance to win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do
something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived
strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on
what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in
which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League
game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do
when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are
forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch
where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief
pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the
slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings.
Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a
challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street
Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that
it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers
pacing around the mound and pitching changes. Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy even
states that this problem is one of the most critical issues facing baseball as we move forward into the
next three, five, seven years (Costa, 2014). Joe Sheehan also wrote an article about the increasing

Emergence: The Connected Lived of Ants, Brains, and Software by Steven Johnson
In the introduction of the book Johnson begins by giving a narrative about the role that slime mold
took in discovering emergent behavior. Biologist in time have struggled to answer questions as to how
these organisms work together. The main concern about these emerging organisms was whether or not
there was a controlling member who directed all other members in each of the communities. More
than likely, the possible solution for any of these communities to show some sense of order would be
if there were a controlling unit or what Johnson mentions as controlling agents that would be in charge
of keeping the community in harmony.
So how exactly has the findings about slime mold given to science? Based on what I have interpreted
about the book I can say Johnson s narrative on how we find connection through emergent complex
living systems would be when he begins describing about the early work of Charles Darwin when
made his evolutionary discoveries at the Galapagos Islands. Because of his observational skills, which
mainly focused on natural selection and factors that would lead to a species to want to evolve due to
survival, this lead to wanting to understand more about what would be the true reason to want to
create emergence. The art of observation soon followed later in Johnson s timeline when he gives a

The Alberta government approved the funding for the construction of the new school, Mary Bergeron
Elementary. This not only created a safer and more modern update for the young students in our
community, but helped to create more employment in the downturn of the economy, stated Chouinard.
Groundbreaking of the new Parkland Lodge was another innovation for the betterment of Edson s
senior citizens. The new lodge will be more modern and comfortable for Edson seniors with a
projected 102 room capacity. Seniors will be able to enjoy privacy by occupying their own room,
unless sharing with a spouse. Completion of the senior s lodge is being planned for July, 2018.
Through tightening of the budget, Edson residents were able to enjoy no increase of their 2017
property taxes. This was accomplished by streamlining and cutting costs while still maintaining a fully
operational budget.
Lobbying for the certification of the Town of Edson airport was another initiative Chouinard helped to
implement. Future planning could one day see Edson on the map as a functional airport for Edson and
surrounding areas. Business transport will also increase the town s viability for tourism to maintain its
prosperity, said Chouinard.
Chouinard was asked of his long term goals running in this election, and if elected, what would those
goals be? His reply was that he would be working towards a safer

Aeneas And Dido. Aeneas Is The King Of The Trojans, Who
Aeneas and Dido
Aeneas is the king of the Trojans, who is also the son of Anchises and Venus. His fate is that he would
build the land of Rome. This fate is tested by the interference of the gods, Juno in particular. Juno is
the queen of the gods and held in high respects in the city of Carthage. As Juno holds a desire to
establish Carthage as the reigning city, [she] pits herself against fate itself, which ordained that the
descendants of the Trojans will conquer Carthage and rule the world (Syed, 108). The one to lead the
descendants from Troy that would build Rome was Aeneas. This created Juno s distaste in him and
does anything in her power to prevent Aeneas from fulfilling his fate of building Rome. However, this

In Book 1 of The Aeneid , Aeneas endures a storm that was created by Juno, causing him and his
comrades to become stranded, as he was traveling from Troy to Italy. As of now, the object of love for
Aeneas is his country and for its growth and success. Aeneas lands on the shores of Carthage and this
is where his focus of love is shaken and tested. While searching in the woods, Aeneas meets a young
girl, who is disguised and actually his mother Venus. She tells Aeneas the background story of the
ruler of Carthage and how everything came to be. She also reassures Aeneas that his missing ships,
along with his other comrades, are safe and to continue the path into the city. Once Aeneas enters the
city and observes the progress of the developing city, he is ecstatic. This encounter shows how his
love for country is very focused. Instead of focusing on the individuals that may have been roaming
around the city as an object of love, he views the whole city, which was still in progress, as an object
of love. Aeneas goes and explores the queen s temple to come across scenes etched of his comrades
during the Trojan War. Aeneas speaks to Achates, who was one of his companions that survived the
storm, about these scenes along the walls and while feeding his spirit on empty, lifeless pictures, /
groaning low, the tears rivering down his face / as he sees once more the fighters circling Troy (Virgil,

Gay Marriage Should Be Accepted And Respected
Homosexuality has become a significant factor among individuals in today s society. Once a taboo
that was never discussed, many people hid their sexual orientation. Now, homosexuality has become
more common as newer generations have become more open minded. The rise in the LGTB
movement has allowed people to openly express their sexuality without being discriminated against.
Although homosexuality has become more socially acceptable, some states still have anti gay laws
and there are numerous individuals who believe that gay marriage is harmful and unnatural. Hozier s
Take Me to Church, Demi Lovato s Really Don t Care and Macklemore s Same Love demonstrate
society s discrimination of homosexuals and why homosexuality should be accepted and respected

Grey s Anatomy As A Medical Drama Television Series On Abc
Grey s Anatomy is a medical drama television series on ABC that is about a group of surgical interns
working at Seattle Grace Hospital. Many people watch the show for the entertainment and drama, but
the series portrays more than just that. The series not only creates a negative stereotype of doctors in
today s society, but also shows different topics and themes of diversity, such as gender, ethnicity, and
gender identity.
Grey s Anatomy creates a poor representation of how doctors really act in everyday life. The series
portrays a negative stereotype of doctors in how the doctors act towards each other and towards
patients that come into the hospital. According to Roslyn Weaver and Ian Wilson, When it comes to
medical television shows, past research has shown there are plenty of negative representations:
unprofessional behaviour, gender stereotypes, and a focus on doctors while ignoring other health
professionals. I agree with this statement. Doctors are shown to be rude, arrogant, and disrespectful a
majority of the time. Also, the nurses in the series get treated bad by the doctors, like they do not mean
anything to the healthcare team. The doctors also form many relationships with their employees that
seem to be professionally inappropriate. Elliot B. Tapper states in an article, The creator of this
program, Shonda Rhymes, consistently eschews the importance of medicine in her show, saying that it
is really a relationship show with surgery in it . The

Effects of the Asian Financial Crisis on 1997
The financial crisis in many countries in Asia in 1997 1998 was an unexpected event. It was mainly
because most of the Asian countries had been enjoying economic growth prior to the crisis. The crisis
itself started with the devaluation of Thailand s Baht in July 1997. The Thailand government decided
to float its currency in order to defend the Baht against speculative attack, despite its fixed exchange
rate system. This decision was apparently the beginning of the economic downturn of many Asian
countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Indonesia. Before the crisis,
Indonesia s economy was growing rapidly; having a low inflation and a well maintained current
account deficit. However, Indonesia surprisingly became the country that was affected the most by the
crisis. This paper aims to examine the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 1998 to Indonesian
economy and how it could happen.
After Thailand floated the baht in 1997, Indonesia s monetary widened its currency trading band. It
changed the exchange rate regime from floating exchange rate to free floating exchange rate, causing
the Rupiah and the stock market to decline. Before the crisis, the exchange rate between the rupiah
and the US dollar was approximately 2,600 Rupiah/USD. The rupiah started to depreciate to 4,000
Rupiah/USD, and dropped dramatically to over 11,000 Rupiah/USD on January 1998. The spot rates
were over 14,000 in January 1998 and trading again over 14,000 during

The Story Of The Great Story Late August And School
It s late August and school is about to start, everyone s thinking of the great story s their going to tell
their friends when they get back. I had the perfect story to tell, my dad had just bought a motorcycle
for my brother and me. The story, started off with a garage sale. In my family we all get together to
help the Grandparents of the family have a garage sale. We were all together at the end of the day,
except my dad, and Aunt and Uncle, who were in the Cities. They were coming back to day, much to
our excitement. The sun was setting behind the big maple tree in the front yard, and a dark truck, with
its headlights shining through the darkness was coming our way. Dads back! my brother yelled in
excitement, catching everyone s attention. We ran out to go meet the truck as it came to a stop. Our
dad got out and told us he has a surprise for us. We followed him back around to the back of the truck.
Dad pulled the tail gate down, and I looked on in surprise. It s a motorcycle! Mom s not going to be
happy. Those were the first thoughts that came to mind as the miniature motorcycle was being lifted
out of the truck. It looked just like the motorcycles I d seen around town but smaller, the perfect size
for kids. It was cherry red and about 3 feet long and 2 feet high, it looked so small but awesome none
the less. We didn t get to drive the motorcycle that day because it needed to be tuned and my dad
wanted to make sure it safe for us to drive. After we

The Implementation Phase Of Changing Our Values At Seagram...
Definition of Project: During the implementation phase of changing our values at Seagram, we have
identified five challenges that need attention. In order to maintain progress with in the culture change
and help generate a larger financial gain in the future, we must solve the challenges that we currently
face. We have an understanding of how important changing the values of our organization since
Moore (2014) explains: Companies are introducing and/or paying more attention to corporate values
since, they will create an atmosphere that will help design new products and services that are social,
environmental friendly while maintaining a financial return. Additionally, corporate values lead to
better resources and partners will also improve productivity and capabilities (skills, knowledge,
productivity) of suppliers. Furthermore, if an organization possesses a strong corporate values system
it will generate local clusters to strengthen, capture economic, and social benefits at the community
level. Finally, corporations are paying more attention to corporate values since they can deploy
corporate assets to achieve scale and spur investments (p. 05). Therefore, it is vital that Seagram
attacks any and all shortcomings that have been identified and future shortcomings in an efficient and
effective manner. If the shortcomings are diffused quickly it will allow our company to maintain 15%
growth a year. Diagnosis of current situation: A plethora of short falls was and have

How A Structured Recess Program Affect The Number Of...
Question
How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior referrals
during intermediate recess?
Introduction
The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease
aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral
forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not
know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the
television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play
properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during recess time
(Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly
interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught by school (Pellegrini, Bohn,
2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and
interact with other students will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. To avoid these
inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more structured recess approach to teach
children how to play and interact while on the playground. The question then becomes what structured
recess program to use and will this program be truly effective?
Possible Solution The first solution would be to start to use a structured recess

Overfishing Essay
Sage Teachout
Mrs. Hildebrand
English 101
October 16, 2017
Fishing for Answers
Overfishing to deplete the stock of fish in a body of water by too much fishing. Overfishing can be
defined in many way, all of them leading to the same conclusion: Catching too many fish is bad for
the environment. Overfishing is an unsustainable use of the oceans. Overfishing occurs because fish
are captured at a faster rate than they can reproduce. Also advances in fishing technology and an
increased demand for fish has led to overfishing, causing several marine species to become extinct.
Despite counter arguments, overfishing is harmful and needs to be stopped because we are depleting
our fishing industry, impacting the food web, and creating economical dangers. Without creating
stricter regulations, the fishing industry will continue to diminish. Due to advances in technology,
fishermen can access places that have never been fished. At first, it was the creation of the simple
trawler boat which had a minimal impact on our environment. It was the creation of the factory fishing
vessels that have taken over and led to mass amounts of overfishing. These boats use down scan sonar,
side imaging, and GPS giving them an unfair advantage over the fish they are after. Using nets that are
50 meters wide and able to hold a weight greater than two medium sized planes, the boats trawl depths
of up to 170 km deep. On board, the ships are processing plants. These plants process, package, and

Rhetorical Devices In The Quiet Alarm
Over the course of the month we have studied Eli Hager s For men in prison child support becomes a
crushing debt , Dana Rorabacher s My fellow conservatives should protect medical marijuana , and
Andreas Elpidorou s The quiet alarm . Individual claims, audiences, and appeals vary drastically
throughout the texts, but as we break them down we begin to uncover similarities between the trio.
This analysis will expose techniques, strategies, and evidence while discovering the rhetorical appeals
behind each one.
The beginning of any thought provoking essay will hook its audience using a form of pathos. Two of
his sons returned home from the battlefield whole and healthy. The third, however, came home
suffering multiple seizures a day (Rorabacher). The quote generates sympathy within us making us
yearn to see a welcoming outcome and leaving the audience hooked. Eli Hager s article follows a
similar route informing us that The state of Missouri sent Harris to the penitentiary in Boonvilee, 250
miles from his home and baby daughter (Hager). Again we sympathize with the loss of a family, but
not all of the articles used grievance to hook us. In the Quiet Alarm the audience is informed of a
vaudeville performer who performed deadly stunts involving hatchets, pins, and guns on himself to
generate shockwaves in the audience. From these examples we identify how our emotions lure us into
these texts.
Compelling facts are another technique each of the authors rely on.

Explain the effect that increasing the Na+ Cl concentration has on osmotic pressure and why it has this
effect. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Increasing the Na+ Cl concentration in the left beaker while keeping the size of MWCO at 20 would
result in an increase in osmotic pressure (Run No.2). This was because the high concentration of Na+
Cl in the right side of membrane gives a increased force to water (in left beaker) to move towards the
solution with the highest concentration of solutes. Therefore, there was an increase in osmotic
pressure.
However, when the membrane was changed to from 20 MWCO to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules
were able to diffuse through the membrane, the equilibrium would be reached and no osmotic pressure
was generated. If the concentration of Na+ Cl of both size are equal, the osmotic pressure would be
zero.
I obtained the results from the experiment supported my predictions because as the the concentration
Na+ Cl was increased from 5 mM to 10 mM (by adding more Na+ Cl ), the osmotic pressure also
increased. However, after the membrane was changed to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules could
diffuse easily through the membrane and did not caused an increase in osmotic pressure.
2. Describe on way in which osmosis is similar to simple diffusion and on way in which is different.
One way in which osmosis is similar to simple diffusion is that both mechanisms are

The Summary of and Response to “the Trouble with Talent”...
The Summary of and Response to The Trouble with Talent by Kathy Seal
In The Trouble with Talent , Kathy Seal, who frequently writes about children and education in
magazines, wrote about the way of education in the U.S. which only focused on the value of inborn
aptitude could breed children to become artful people and waste many of American children s
potential. At the beginning of this article, Seal told about an experiment of Jim Stigler, who was a
UCLA psychologist, which tested the persistence of Japanese and American children by solving the
math problem. While the American kids solved the problem for a short time and quickly gave up, the
Japanese kids still kept on their work. Stigler stated that Asian education focused to ... Show more

Indeed, from this article we recognize that the children will gain success when everybody encourages
their effort and shouldn t emphasize inborn talent. Effort counts more than innate ability.
After reading Seal s article which stated that Americans often thought kids are born smart while
Asians more often believed that studying makes a person smarter, I was reminded my own personal
beliefs on intelligence and I realized that I have thought people could get smart by exerting effort
since I was in the last year of elementary school in Vietnam. Therefore, I empathized with Seal s
attitude that success and achievement are a result of working hard. I could remember that I got this
attitude when I was in an important final exam which decided where my middle school was in the next
year that depended on my score. In this exam, the math test was an extremely difficult test for every
student because it had a strange math problem which my classmates and I had never studied before. At
first, I had spent for 2 hour to solve this problem, but I didn t succeed. So, I wanted to give up.
However, I was worry about my score and thought about my mom, who hoped that I could get the
high score enough to enter a famous middle school. Since I didn t want to disappoint my mom s wish,
I tried to solve this math problem again and again and again. Eventually, I was successful to solve

Racism in College Football
Integration in Ole Miss Football Today, African American athletes play a strong and predominant role
in the football program at the university however, this was not always the case. Less than fifty years
ago, the Ole Miss football program was just as segregated as it had been in its early days. As a whole,
the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA was the last to instrgarate black athletes with the current
white ones (Paul 297, 284). Of the ten teams in the conference at the time, the University of
Mississippi was the last to integrate (Paul 287). This integration of the team took place ten years after
the University itself was integrated. Not only did the school refuse to integrate until years after other
teams had already done so but, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ole Miss football program faced a set back in its integration process as a result of its long
standing racial mentality and the repercussions of the integration of the university itself however, once
the team was integrated, a smooth transition was made. Of the multitude of reasons that exists why the
Ole Miss football program was so delayed in its integration process comes the necessary role the
football program played in keeping the university open during the integration of the university itself.
As the entire university went into turmoil, the football program stood strong. During the 1962 season,
which was played parallel with Meredith s appearance on campus, the team went undefeated and still
is considered one of the greatest teams since. In his essay explaining the parallel between the
integration of Ole Miss and the 62 team, Wright Thompson states, The 1962 Ole Miss football team
fascinated me. That year, perhaps because of the school s near self destruction over integration, or
perhaps in spite of it, the team managed the most remarkable season seen in Oxford before or since
(1). This strong and winning team, lead by coach Henry Vaught, kept the university running when it
looked as though it would implode on itself. Many turned to the idols of the campus, the football

Machismo In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle Of A Death...
Machismo is defined as being a strong sense of masculine pride, or an exaggerated masculinity. The
characters in the novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, are all effected by machismo in one way or
another. To someone who hasn t learned much about the topic, it seems beneficial to the men, since
they continue to be higher on the social pyramid. But, the men in the novel don t necessarily benefit
from machismo, along with honor and revenge culture, and the woman certainly do not benefit from
any of this. This all ties into the historical context of the novel, which takes place during La Violencia,
an event which lasted a decade and featured heightened tensions between citizens and politicians, and
political uprisings. This all brought fear to the citizens of Colombia and didn t make anything forced
onto the men and women any better. In the fiction novella Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel
Garcia Marquez, the author uses and manipulates the men in the novel to give the reader a better
understanding of Colombia/the Colombian culture, machismo, and the theme of honor. The plot of
Chronicle involves the death of Santiago Nasar, a man who is accused of claiming Angela Vicario s
virginity before she is ever married. When her husband, Bayardo San Roman, finds out that she isn t a
virgin, he returns her to her family and her twin brothers, Pedro and Pablo Vicario, take matters into

The Effect Of Organ Harvesting On The Black Market
Opening the door to people being able to buy organs for transplantation if they would not be able to
receive an organ by waiting their turn through the national database, only sets the tone for the
harvesting of organs.
Subsequently, that is why it s never good to leave your drink unattended. All too often people have
been illegally drugged, and kidneys have been stolen in their sleep to satisfy the need of the black
market of organs for transplant. Moreover, an unethical professional, be it a doctor or nurse could
decide not to revive someone based on them being a match for someone that may be waiting to
purchase the first organ that is needed; especially if that person is an organ donor. For years it was said
not to allow the state to put that you re an organ donor on your license for just this reason (Gregory,
2015).
There are websites and videos like the ones below that touch on organ harvesting and human
trafficking to harvest organs on the black market. The unfortunate thing is Amazon has books upon
books on the subject.

Specific Purpose: To tell a story about the my experience in the United States school system compare
to the Jamaican school system.
Thesis Statement: We should appreciate what we have before we lose it because the grass is not
always greener on the other side.
I.Introduction
a.After living in Jamaica for 15 years and 9 months, I went to live with my mother in Central Islip in
Long Island New York. It was sad to leave behind all my friends and my old school, but this would be
a fresh start to find new friends and to go to a new school.
b.I was very excited to start my new school after seeing how cool school seemed on TV. The no school
uniform, having lockers, walking out of class when the bell rung even is the teacher is still talking and
school buses. School seemed like a dreamland on TV compare to the strict school I was leaving.
I. Main point 1
a.my school was just a 6 minute walk for my house so I didn t get to experience the school bus ride.
My little sister who went to school in America all her life, helped me map out how to get to my first
three classes on a school map they gave me during registration.when I walked through the big glass
doors, my mood went from being excited to nervous. The main hallway was a big circle and you had
to walk in one direction during the period changes. I was overwhelmed by the 100s of kids in the

Emergency Department Essay
Aiding Throughput by Adding Advanced Practice Providers to Saint Joseph s Emergency Department
Cavan Quam
California State University, Stanislaus
Introduction
Emergency departments (EDs) across the country are inundated with too many patients based upon
staffing and resources (Sun et al., 2013). This is a problem, as overcrowding in the ED has been
shown to increase the likelihood of multiple negative outcomes. Patients who go to overcrowded EDs
experience a higher likelihood of mortality, have a longer length of stay in the hospital, and incur
higher costs (Sun et al., 2013). While the problem of overcrowding is a multifaceted one, one
contributing factor is that low acuity patients go to EDs because they lack access to primary ... Show

Approach Urgent Care in ED Model Since overcrowded EDs must provide care to patients across the
acuity spectrum, it is imperative that the appropriate level of care is delivered as often as possible. In
other words, a physician does not need to perform assessments on a patient who can be managed by a
nurse practitioner (NP) or a physician assistant (PA). Similarly, a high acuity patient should not be
relegated to a longer time to assessment because the ED physicians are assigned to too many patients
already. In order to appropriately match patients with the level of care required, EDs must increase NP
and PA staffing to treat those who seek primary care and urgent care treatment at the ED.
Urgent care models utilize multiple NPs and PAs. The reason being is these providers can deliver the
care at the level the patient requires. It has been shown that utilizing NPs in the ED can result is lower
acuity patients being seen and discharged faster, as well as helping overcrowding in the ED overall
(Burlingame Simpson, 2009). In concert with an effective front end and ambulance triage model, NPs
and other advanced practice providers can lessen the burden on ED physicians.
Importantly, nurse practitioners and other advanced providers contribute to throughput in the ED even
if they are not the final provider signing off on the patient s discharge. Rapid access to NPs and PAs

The Importance Of Humanitarian Intervention
The international community has a responsibility to protect citizens against the gross human rights
abuses of their states. This statement leads into the discussion of the two main doctrines that relate to
human rights violations, the first being humanitarian intervention which has existed for many
centuries, and places emphasis on the powers of state having the duty to protect its citizens, and if this
is ignored, the international community has rights to step in. Despite the fact that, in theory, this
intervention doctrine has many flaws starting with the failures seen in crisis areas such as Somalia,
Bosnia and Kosovo and the debate on whether it compromises a state s sovereignty. These faults led to
the creation of the newer Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, which, in its own capacity, has
many faults and failures, but has seen some small victories in region such as Libya and Syria in recent
years. Humanitarian intervention is by no means a new idea, it has in fact been dated back to as early
the 1600 s, when Hugo Grotius promoted the idea that a ruler should be rightly dealt with if they were
found to have inflicted inhumane treatment upon their subjects (Haslett, 2014). It is described as the
coercive action, using armed forces, by a state, in another state without the permission of it authorities,
in order to prevent and stop the suffering of the citizens in that state. It can easily be confused with
peacekeeping missions, but there are two

Summary Of Edward Morgan Forster sThe Machine Stops
As our society continues to develop, the advanced technology has changed people s lives in many
respects. When people enjoy the convenience of using touchpad during class, contacting a person who
lives a thousand miles away via FaceTime, and storing live data in the online cloud, there will be a
long term and serious consequences resulting from overuse of technology. About a century ago,
Edward Morgan Forster, in his short novel The Machine Stops, has already accurately predicted
human s future through presenting an image of how human s exponentially increasing dependence on
technology makes them weak, and ultimately decease. The story happens in the future where human
beings who has lost their ability to live on the surface of earth live in a subterranean cell, with all
physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs met by the Machine. With the Machine, people believe they
live in a perfect world. All of the people believe they live in a perfect world, except Kuno, who finds
the flaw that can destroy the society. Kuno s concern is treated as madness by his mother Vashti.
Forster s theme concerns envisioning the earth in the future when the use of technology is at its climax
and every sphere of life is dependent on it. He exploits his idea by illustrating that the development of
the sophisticated technology will ultimately control human beings and annihilate their ability to think
critically and live independently, making them treat the Machine like a god. Therefore, through

Comparing The Leaders In The Play A Midsummer Night s Dream
In the short play, A Midsummer Night s dream, there are two worlds the human world and the fairy
world. In the two worlds there are naturally rulers for the fairy world there is Titania and Oberon, and
for the human world there is Theseus and Hippolyta. These leaders differ in many ways like how they
rule and how they re relationship works. The leaders have many strengths and weaknesses, and it is
fun to see how it contributes to the plot of the story. The leaders are also very hard to explain a lot
about because they don t appear very much in the story. I think that Theseus and Hippolyta are better
leaders that Titania and Oberon, because of their relationship and their leading style. Theseus and
Hippolyta though they sometimes disagree they usually end up having the decision made for them.
Titania and Oberon fight and never resolve the conflict until after Oberon causes to much trouble with
both worlds. Theseus and Hippolyta wanted their daughter to marry someone she didn t want to marry,
but ended up not, sounds like the parents most people would not want. On the other hand you could

The Reproductive Cycles Of Human Animals
During 2015, the reproductive cycles of two female, captive, Southern White Rhinoceroses
(Ceratotherium simum simum), Moesha (#1357) and Kito (#1353) at Hamilton Zoo were investigated
and analysed by non invasive faecal progesterone concentrations. These two females have had limited
reproductive success with one in a long period of acyclicity and the other with normal cycles.
Monitoring progesterone levels allows the zoo keepers at Hamilton Zoo to be able to introduce the

The maintenance of genetically viable populations of endangered animals is the upmost concern of
zoos and aquaria around the world (Berkeley, Kirkpatrick, Schaffer, Bryant, Threlfall, 1997). The
success of captive populations is important as they can serve to repopulate the species if the wild
population becomes too endangered and serve to educate the public about the plight of the species
(Kobus, 2011; Tubbs, Hartig, Cardon, Varga, Milnes, 2012). The wild populations of rhinoceroses are

Soviet Union And The Ussr
On August 6th, 1945 the world watched in awe as the United States dropped two Atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this brought forth the end of World War 2 and an allied powers victory. The
two biggest winners of this war were the United States and the USSR (aka. Soviet Union and present
day Russia) and they knew that they won the most. The United States during this time had just come
out of the Worst depression it had in history and needed more reassurance for a better future. The
USSR was also on top of the world beating its biggest rival but also took some of the biggest losses
about 40 million people for a closer estimate. Germany had separated into four divisions Russia taking
the biggest portion and the capital Berlin. Russia saw themselves as missionaries trying to expand
communism worldwide from China to Cuba. The problem with this was that the exact opposite of
Communism was Capitalism, which ,along with democracy, is what the United States stands for. The
United States did not like that the USSR was trying to spread communism which resulted in
intervention and tensions between the two countries. These political and military tensions were called
the Cold War i.e. the unfought war of threats that lasted over four decades. The Cold War can be
dissected into five simple parts; The beginning of the war, the heating up of the war, confrontation, the
homefront, and the end of the war. The whole war ends up making the same point about the United

Persuasive Essay On Multitasking
Multitasking entails having different work activities and shifting attention from one task to another all

The danger in multitasking is that effectiveness can be dangerous if someone tries to carry out too

homeless Fanny, self is not defined. With no home, she has no self. She must,
therefore, grow into Mansfield Park before asserting selfhood. As Fanny defines

Mansfield Park and the family it represents.
At her arrival, Mansfield Park is clearly no home to Fanny.
Displaced from her home in Portsmouth, Fanny is almost a not Fanny. The initial
description of her is marked by negation. There is not . . . much in her first
appearance though nothing to disgust (9). She has no glow of complexion,
nor any other striking beauty (9). She is awkward but not vulgar (9). The
negatives (not, nothing, no, nor) reduce Fanny to nothingness. The modifiers,
too, are diminutive. Though Fanny is not much younger than Julia and Maria, she
is described as just ten years old and small of her age (9). She is
timid, shy, shrinking from notice (9), all words that reflect deficiency.
The Miss Bertrams feed off of this diminishment, increasing from their cousin s
shyness (10). Fanny s self threatens to dissolve altogether. After meeting

Before Richard Phillips Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, his father had proclaimed, If it s a boy,
he ll be a scientist (Mehra 1994, p. 2). He was right, although it is interesting to note that Feynman s
sister Joan, nine years his junior, also has a Ph.D. in physics (Feynman 1988). But while Melville
Feynman might have been wrong about predicting the careers of his children based on their sex, he
certainly prepared the young ones well for the scientific occupation. In an interview just before his
death, Feynman was asked if he could name a great influence in his life. He said, My father. Early in
my life, he d tell me about the world, about nature and how interesting it was (Brian 1995, p. 49). The
elder Feynman took his son on long walks in the woods, read to him from the Encyclopedia

elementary school, Feynman tinkered with toys, clocks, radios, and anything else he could secure for
his laboratory, a workspace in the corner of his bedroom. Besides influencing Feynman to think about
the wonders of science from a young age, Melville taught his son some non scientific lessons that

father to show indifference to authority, and to devalue honors and awards. Melville was in the

My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing
Have you ever cleaned out your closet and found many items you never knew you owned? That is the
way English 101 felt to me. I learned important skills and techniques that I will maintain even though
the course is over. I will be constantly improving what I have learned meaning I will work to carry
about my strengths and eliminate my remaining weaknesses. English 101 has helped me grow as a
reader, a writer, and most importantly a person.
My writing has progressed during the term by becoming more specific and sophisticated on an
analytic level. I have learned to closely observe what I am reading or researching; this helping to
improve the credibility in my writing. When the grades were passed back for the first minor writing, I
was highly dissatisfied with the grade I received. In high school, I always got excellent grades on my
papers; making it hard for me to accept the challenge that was now presented in front of me. After
sitting down and figuring out my mistakes, I realized I was an extremely general writer. I forgot to
include multiple details that were necessary for the readers understanding as it was difficult for me to
analyze writing from another perspective. My first minor writing paper was titled A healthy Friendship
and it explained a paradigm shift that involved one of my current best friends. This was my weakest
writing by far. After I revised the paper and still did not receive my ideal grade, I knew I would have

The Secret Window And Dissociative Identity Disorder
The Secret Window and Dissociative Identity Disorder The Secret Window is a film released in 2004
directed by David Koepp and written by Stephen King. The main issue in this film is one of a
psychological basis which keeps the audience on their toes and maybe even slightly confused until all
of the pieces fit together at the end of the film. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the
psychological issue that plagues the main character, Mort Rainey (portrayed by Johnny Depp), and
identify any biases or misinformation presented in the film. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID),
formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder, is a psychological issue that is quite debilitating to
the affected individual. Symptoms of this disorder often mimic those of other physical and mental
disorders such as seizure disorder, substance abuse, and post traumatic stress disorder ( Dissociative
Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder) , 2012). The distinguishing symptom of Dissociative
Identity Disorder, however, is the presence of two or more distinct identities that alternately take
control of the individual and this symptom is the main basis and plot of The Secret Window. In
addition, the person is plagued by memory losses that cannot be explained by ordinary forgetfulness
and may even find items that he or she doesn t remember buying. ( Dissociative Identity Disorder

this allowed BMW to focus on a narrow industry at first and gain experience. As it has established a
toehold in this industry it started to expand its product portfolio by including automobiles and

Hack An Iphone Analysis
The articles of the constitution have withstood the change of time because our country founders
worded them in such a way so that principle ideas will never be questioned. The FBI in the case of one
of the California shooters, Syed Farook, pressured Apple to hack the phone without the search
warrant. The FBI shouldn t have pressured Apple to hack an iPhone because it breaches privacy, it
violates free speech, and it hurts apple s business.
From the business point of view of Apple, I have seen Arguments that Apple refused to unlock the
phone for business reasons, to protect the Brand. (2) This because Apple phone sales would decrease
because people of the world do not want to be tracked on their phones. Also, the company has a
responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government has no right to force anybody to provide Services against their will. (2) If the U.S. did
force companies to provide services to violate personal privacy, freedom or speech, or fundamental
human rights, they would behave no differently than the governments of Russia or China. Unlike the
U.S., these governments have no respect for individual rights or free speech.
On the other hand, many people may argue that by hacking into the shooter s iPhone it would increase
national security. But, The Fourth Amendment was meant to protect Americans from illegal searches.
This means that police or other law enforcement can t search your home, car, or clothing without
permission from a court. It also guarantees Americans right to privacy... It doesn t say that a person s
home or belongings can t be searched at all. It does say that the government must have a good reason
for the search, or probable cause. And the government must get permission, in the form of a warrant
from a judge by showing probable cause. (1) That is because the fourth amendment gives us the right
to privacy.
All in all, Apple did choose the right thing of refusing to hack into the iPhone. If Apple would breach
the Phone, then they would break the constitution by going against the first and fourth amendment.
Also, if Apple did violate the device, then it would have hurt the brand name. To avoid any other
issues such as this one in the future we should amend the constitution or add laws that adjust to
changing technology in the

The Roles Of Light And Dark Imagery
Analysis of the roles of light and dark imagery in Banana Yoshimoto s Kitchen In the novella Kitchen,
Banana Yoshimoto uses light and dark imagery to develop realistic characterization and to support her
fantastical style, while effectively projecting pathos upon the readers. Throughout the story, Mikage
unveils that life is a process of healing where grief and sadness are needed to truly appreciate
happiness. Such abstract ideas and emotions are detailedly brought about by Yoshimoto s usage of the
four seasons of the year to provide a main timeline of the events concerning Mikage s encounters with
death, as well utilizing cosmos as a form of pathetic fallacy during the more miniscule experiences. In
the grand scheme of the story, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following Spring was the one summer of bliss (59) occurring in [the Tanabe s] kitchen (59). This
period containing longer, bright days of joy and fullness demonstrates to the readers the extent of
Mikage s contentment through the motif of nurture brought by cooking in the kitchen, especially in the
Tanabe s kitchen.
In face of the season of death and preparing for an end, Eriko died late in the Autumn. (44) Much grief
and despair fell upon Mikage and Yuichi as the dark Autumn imagery clearly reflects these negative
emotions. There was a discrete transition from Autumn to Winter as death and preparing for an end
goes hand in hand with voidness and despair. The four seasons of the year which range in different
exposures to lightness are perfectly used by Yoshimoto to express the continuity of the cycle of grief
and joy as time advances.
Yoshimoto provides an overall transition between darkness to lightness from the beginning of Kitchen
to the end, which demonstrates Mikage s developmental journey in discovering that time will
constantly move despite any abruptions in life and no one will be capable of preventing it. Proceeding
the death of Mikage s grandmother, she is once again stuck with a hollow in [her] heart (56) the
following Winter as it was the grieving period for Eriko; however, now she has developed a
philosophy that [she] wants to

  • 2. Research Methodology Within The Nes 2012 Codebook 3. Research Methodology Within the NES 2012 Codebook, there are three questions I intend to examine. This first is labeled PRESVOTE2012_X in which the respondent specifies whether they voted for Obama, Romney, or other. The next question is labeled INCGROUP_PREPOST and asks the respondent to specify their level of family income beginning with under $5,000 going up to $250,000 or more. As a result of this question providing 28 different categories, for the purpose of my paper and tables, I recoded the INCGROUP_PREPOST variable to become income4 in which the results would be provided within four income categories, as opposed to the 28. The data does tend to support my hypothesis that females are more likely to vote for the Democratic candidate. There is a 6.2% difference between males that voted for Obama and females that voted for Obama, which is significant enough to observe a deviance but not to generalize all men and women, as there may be outliers. • 3. Hurdle And Gerrit Cole In Major League Baseball Imagine it is the final game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season in the seventh inning of an interleague game between the National League (NL) Pittsburgh Pirates and the American League (AL) Toronto Blue Jays. Gerrit Cole is pitching for the hometown Pirates and is having an exceptional game, allowing only one unearned run. The Jays lead 1 0 and Gerrit Cole is up next to bat. The question then for General Manager, Clint Hurdle, is whether to pinch hit for him in exchange for a better hitter, or to leave him in the game so he can continue to pitch. If only there was a way to keep Cole in the game, while having someone like Pedro Alvarez; a non everyday starter who can hit the ball, pinch hit and give their team the best chance to win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings. Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers pacing around the mound and pitching changes. Vanessa Payan Professor Leach ARC5205 Architecture Theories 2 Fall 2016 October 20, 2016 Emergence: The Connected Lived of Ants, Brains, and Software by Steven Johnson In the introduction of the book Johnson begins by giving a narrative about the role that slime mold took in discovering emergent behavior. Biologist in time have struggled to answer questions as to how these organisms work together. The main concern about these emerging organisms was whether or not there was a controlling member who directed all other members in each of the communities. More than likely, the possible solution for any of these communities to show some sense of order would be if there were a controlling unit or what Johnson mentions as controlling agents that would be in charge of keeping the community in harmony. So how exactly has the findings about slime mold given to science? Based on what I have interpreted about the book I can say Johnson s narrative on how we find connection through emergent complex living systems would be when he begins describing about the early work of Charles Darwin when made his evolutionary discoveries at the Galapagos Islands. Because of his observational skills, which mainly focused on natural selection and factors that would lead to a species to want to evolve due to survival, this lead to wanting to understand more about what would be the true reason to want to create emergence. The art of observation soon followed later in Johnson s timeline when he gives a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Book 1 of The Aeneid , Aeneas endures a storm that was created by Juno, causing him and his comrades to become stranded, as he was traveling from Troy to Italy. As of now, the object of love for Aeneas is his country and for its growth and success. Aeneas lands on the shores of Carthage and this is where his focus of love is shaken and tested. While searching in the woods, Aeneas meets a young girl, who is disguised and actually his mother Venus. She tells Aeneas the background story of the ruler of Carthage and how everything came to be. She also reassures Aeneas that his missing ships, along with his other comrades, are safe and to continue the path into the city. Once Aeneas enters the city and observes the progress of the developing city, he is ecstatic. This encounter shows how his love for country is very focused. Instead of focusing on the individuals that may have been roaming around the city as an object of love, he views the whole city, which was still in progress, as an object of love. Grey s Anatomy As A Medical Drama Television Series On Abc Grey s Anatomy is a medical drama television series on ABC that is about a group of surgical interns working at Seattle Grace Hospital. Many people watch the show for the entertainment and drama, but the series portrays more than just that. The series not only creates a negative stereotype of doctors in today s society, but also shows different topics and themes of diversity, such as gender, ethnicity, and gender identity. Grey s Anatomy creates a poor representation of how doctors really act in everyday life. • 9. Effects of the Asian Financial Crisis on 1997 The financial crisis in many countries in Asia in 1997 1998 was an unexpected event. It was mainly because most of the Asian countries had been enjoying economic growth prior to the crisis. The crisis itself started with the devaluation of Thailand s Baht in July 1997. The Thailand government decided to float its currency in order to defend the Baht against speculative attack, despite its fixed exchange rate system. This decision was apparently the beginning of the economic downturn of many Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Indonesia. Before the crisis, Indonesia s economy was growing rapidly; having a low inflation and a well maintained current account deficit. However, Indonesia surprisingly became the country that was affected the most by the crisis. This paper aims to examine the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 1998 to Indonesian economy and how it could happen. After Thailand floated the baht in 1997, Indonesia s monetary widened its currency trading band. It changed the exchange rate regime from floating exchange rate to free floating exchange rate, causing the Rupiah and the stock market to decline. Before the crisis, the exchange rate between the rupiah and the US dollar was approximately 2,600 Rupiah/USD. The rupiah started to depreciate to 4,000 Rupiah/USD, and dropped dramatically to over 11,000 Rupiah/USD on January 1998. Dads back! my brother yelled in excitement, catching everyone s attention. We ran out to go meet the truck as it came to a stop. Our dad got out and told us he has a surprise for us. We followed him back around to the back of the truck. Dad pulled the tail gate down, and I looked on in surprise. It s a motorcycle! Mom s not going to be happy. In order to maintain progress with in the culture change and help generate a larger financial gain in the future, we must solve the challenges that we currently face. We have an understanding of how important changing the values of our organization since Moore (2014) explains: Companies are introducing and/or paying more attention to corporate values since, they will create an atmosphere that will help design new products and services that are social, environmental friendly while maintaining a financial return. Additionally, corporate values lead to better resources and partners will also improve productivity and capabilities (skills, knowledge, productivity) of suppliers. Furthermore, if an organization possesses a strong corporate values system it will generate local clusters to strengthen, capture economic, and social benefits at the community level. Finally, corporations are paying more attention to corporate values since they can deploy corporate assets to achieve scale and spur investments (p. 05). Question How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior referrals during intermediate recess? Introduction The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during recess time (Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught by school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while on the playground. The question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this program be truly effective? Possible Solution The first solution would be to start to use a structured recess ... • 15. Overfishing Essay Sage Teachout Mrs. Hildebrand English 101 October 16, 2017 Fishing for Answers Overfishing to deplete the stock of fish in a body of water by too much fishing. Overfishing can be defined in many way, all of them leading to the same conclusion: Catching too many fish is bad for the environment. Overfishing is an unsustainable use of the oceans. Overfishing occurs because fish are captured at a faster rate than they can reproduce. Also advances in fishing technology and an increased demand for fish has led to overfishing, causing several marine species to become extinct. Despite counter arguments, overfishing is harmful and needs to be stopped because we are depleting our fishing industry, impacting the food web, and creating economical dangers. Without creating stricter regulations, the fishing industry will continue to diminish. Due to advances in technology, fishermen can access places that have never been fished. At first, it was the creation of the simple trawler boat which had a minimal impact on our environment. It was the creation of the factory fishing vessels that have taken over and led to mass amounts of overfishing. These boats use down scan sonar, side imaging, and GPS giving them an unfair advantage over the fish they are after. Using nets that are 50 meters wide and able to hold a weight greater than two medium sized planes, the boats trawl depths of up to 170 km deep. On board, the ships are processing plants. Rhetorical Devices In The Quiet Alarm Over the course of the month we have studied Eli Hager s For men in prison child support becomes a crushing debt , Dana Rorabacher s My fellow conservatives should protect medical marijuana , and Andreas Elpidorou s The quiet alarm . Individual claims, audiences, and appeals vary drastically throughout the texts, but as we break them down we begin to uncover similarities between the trio. This analysis will expose techniques, strategies, and evidence while discovering the rhetorical appeals behind each one. The beginning of any thought provoking essay will hook its audience using a form of pathos. Two of his sons returned home from the battlefield whole and healthy. The third, however, came home suffering multiple seizures a day (Rorabacher). The quote generates sympathy within us making us yearn to see a welcoming outcome and leaving the audience hooked. Eli Hager s article follows a similar route informing us that The state of Missouri sent Harris to the penitentiary in Boonvilee, 250 miles from his home and baby daughter (Hager). Again we sympathize with the loss of a family, but not all of the articles used grievance to hook us. In the Quiet Alarm the audience is informed of a vaudeville performer who performed deadly stunts involving hatchets, pins, and guns on himself to generate shockwaves in the audience. From these examples we identify how our emotions lure us into these texts. Compelling facts are another technique each of the authors rely on. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain the effect that increasing the Na+ Cl concentration has on osmotic pressure and why it has this effect. How well did the results compare with your prediction? Increasing the Na+ Cl concentration in the left beaker while keeping the size of MWCO at 20 would result in an increase in osmotic pressure (Run No.2). This was because the high concentration of Na+ Cl in the right side of membrane gives a increased force to water (in left beaker) to move towards the solution with the highest concentration of solutes. Therefore, there was an increase in osmotic pressure. However, when the membrane was changed to from 20 MWCO to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules were able to diffuse through the membrane, the equilibrium would be reached and no osmotic pressure was generated. If the concentration of Na+ Cl of both size are equal, the osmotic pressure would be zero. I obtained the results from the experiment supported my predictions because as the the concentration Na+ Cl was increased from 5 mM to 10 mM (by adding more Na+ Cl ), the osmotic pressure also increased. However, after the membrane was changed to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl molecules could diffuse easily through the membrane and did not caused an increase in osmotic pressure. 2. • 24. Machismo In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle Of A Death... Machismo is defined as being a strong sense of masculine pride, or an exaggerated masculinity. The characters in the novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, are all effected by machismo in one way or another. To someone who hasn t learned much about the topic, it seems beneficial to the men, since they continue to be higher on the social pyramid. But, the men in the novel don t necessarily benefit from machismo, along with honor and revenge culture, and the woman certainly do not benefit from any of this. This all ties into the historical context of the novel, which takes place during La Violencia, an event which lasted a decade and featured heightened tensions between citizens and politicians, and political uprisings. This all brought fear to the citizens of Colombia and didn t make anything forced onto the men and women any better. In the fiction novella Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author uses and manipulates the men in the novel to give the reader a better understanding of Colombia/the Colombian culture, machismo, and the theme of honor. The plot of Chronicle involves the death of Santiago Nasar, a man who is accused of claiming Angela Vicario s virginity before she is ever married. Emergency Department Essay Aiding Throughput by Adding Advanced Practice Providers to Saint Joseph s Emergency Department Cavan Quam California State University, Stanislaus Introduction Emergency departments (EDs) across the country are inundated with too many patients based upon staffing and resources (Sun et al., 2013). This is a problem, as overcrowding in the ED has been shown to increase the likelihood of multiple negative outcomes. Patients who go to overcrowded EDs experience a higher likelihood of mortality, have a longer length of stay in the hospital, and incur higher costs (Sun et al., 2013). While the problem of overcrowding is a multifaceted one, one contributing factor is that low acuity patients go to EDs because they lack access to primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Approach Urgent Care in ED Model Since overcrowded EDs must provide care to patients across the acuity spectrum, it is imperative that the appropriate level of care is delivered as often as possible. In other words, a physician does not need to perform assessments on a patient who can be managed by a nurse practitioner (NP) or a physician assistant (PA). Similarly, a high acuity patient should not be relegated to a longer time to assessment because the ED physicians are assigned to too many patients already. In order to appropriately match patients with the level of care required, EDs must increase NP and PA staffing to treat those who seek primary care and urgent care treatment at the ED. Urgent care models utilize multiple NPs and PAs. The reason being is these providers can deliver the care at the level the patient requires. It has been shown that utilizing NPs in the ED can result is lower acuity patients being seen and discharged faster, as well as helping overcrowding in the ED overall (Burlingame Simpson, 2009). In concert with an effective front end and ambulance triage model, NPs and other advanced practice providers can lessen the burden on ED physicians. Importantly, nurse practitioners and other advanced providers contribute to throughput in the ED even if they are not the final provider signing off on the patient s discharge. • 28. The Importance Of Humanitarian Intervention The international community has a responsibility to protect citizens against the gross human rights abuses of their states. This statement leads into the discussion of the two main doctrines that relate to human rights violations, the first being humanitarian intervention which has existed for many centuries, and places emphasis on the powers of state having the duty to protect its citizens, and if this is ignored, the international community has rights to step in. Despite the fact that, in theory, this intervention doctrine has many flaws starting with the failures seen in crisis areas such as Somalia, Bosnia and Kosovo and the debate on whether it compromises a state s sovereignty. These faults led to the creation of the newer Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, which, in its own capacity, has many faults and failures, but has seen some small victories in region such as Libya and Syria in recent years. Humanitarian intervention is by no means a new idea, it has in fact been dated back to as early the 1600 s, when Hugo Grotius promoted the idea that a ruler should be rightly dealt with if they were found to have inflicted inhumane treatment upon their subjects (Haslett, 2014). It is described as the coercive action, using armed forces, by a state, in another state without the permission of it authorities, in order to prevent and stop the suffering of the citizens in that state. • 29. Summary Of Edward Morgan Forster sThe Machine Stops As our society continues to develop, the advanced technology has changed people s lives in many respects. When people enjoy the convenience of using touchpad during class, contacting a person who lives a thousand miles away via FaceTime, and storing live data in the online cloud, there will be a long term and serious consequences resulting from overuse of technology. About a century ago, Edward Morgan Forster, in his short novel The Machine Stops, has already accurately predicted human s future through presenting an image of how human s exponentially increasing dependence on technology makes them weak, and ultimately decease. The story happens in the future where human beings who has lost their ability to live on the surface of earth live in a subterranean cell, with all physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs met by the Machine. With the Machine, people believe they live in a perfect world. All of the people believe they live in a perfect world, except Kuno, who finds the flaw that can destroy the society. Kuno s concern is treated as madness by his mother Vashti. Forster s theme concerns envisioning the earth in the future when the use of technology is at its climax and every sphere of life is dependent on it. He exploits his idea by illustrating that the development of the sophisticated technology will ultimately control human beings and annihilate their ability to think critically and live independently, making them treat the Machine like a god.
