Earning A Postsecondary Degree Essay
Have you ever wondered if getting a postsecondary degree will help in your future? Well if you
said yes then this essay will give you the information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary
degree can increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people
prefer not getting a postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it s too much work while
others get it and have a higher income. Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive
impact on someone s life because there will be more job opportunities, earn a higher income, and a
longer life expectancy.
First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because
there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a
degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals.
Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were
the only group that had a better job. For instance, according to the National Center for Education
Statistics, the unemployment rate is higher than the unemployment rate in age groups.
Furthermore, the unemployment rate goes down with the effort being made employment rate

First, according to .(The difference between a highschool dropout...) (Sarah Kliff) .Americans
with fewer than 17 years of education have a life expectancy that s not much better than adults
in the 1950s and 1960s. So, taking the time to get a postsecondary degree can increase someone
s life expectancy. Furthermore, In the article (Why accountants live longer than builders)
Professional women have a life expectancy at birth of 85.1 years compared with 78.1 for manual
workers. Overall, having a skilled job can increase your life expectancy more than not having one.
So, if you get a postsecondary degree your life expectancy will be

Black Noise Tricia Rose Analysis
Response Paper for a Comparison of Tricia Rose s Black Noise and Themes of Our Seminar
Ghetto Poetry Published in 1994, Tricia Rose s book Black Noise: Rap Music and Black Culture
in Contemporary America, has developed to one of the most influential academic works
considering hip hop culture. It describes Rap music and Black Culture, focusing on the potency the
inhabitants of the United States have. She writes primarily about Rap music, whereas Rose points
out the following themes. She starts by talking about hip hop s (including rap) history, followed by
the interruption of the media in hip hop s occurrences and describes the political happenings within
this culture. Finally Rose explores the role of women in hip hop culture, especially

Positive Role Models
People see them everywhere; on the television, on magazines, and on the internet; celebrities. Since
they are in the media so much, they are constantly influencing society, especially younger
audiences. These celebrities are not positive role models for today s youth. They are not positive
role models because they make peoplebelieve dangerous, and untrue information regarding health,
appearance is more important than everything else, and that more money means more respect.
Everyday people are paying attention to celebritys advice, since they seem to be very successful.
They want to listen to their advice to make their own lives prosperous. However, some of this
advice can be more harmful than beneficial. For example, many celebritiesshare medical advice
that can be damaging. Liz Szabo writes, Many doctors say they re troubled by stars who cross
the line from sharing their stories to championing questionable or even dangerous medical advice
(Szabo). Celebrities are sharing medical advice that is doing more harm than good. On the
contrary, some people will argue that they share more beneficial advice. Diana Gorgos states,
These spokespersons can also prompt people to get screened for cancer, concludes a new study. It
found that a televised colon cancer awareness campaign by Katie Couric was temporally associated
with an increase in colonoscopy use (Gorgos). Although some celebrities share good medical
advice, many share harmful information. Szabo further writes, when

Amistad Field Trip
To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all
written requirements because I believed the boat was small and cramped. Jackie, who was the
instructor of the Amistad, who spoke at Options, gave us background history about the boat. It was
from this background history that I interpreted the boat was small and cramped. Even though I had
not seen the boat in person, I believed it was tiny and restricted.
My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin
offered me information about who was going on the trip, the food that was being ordered, and
staff that were going. The Options staff that were traveling to see the ship were my teachers. My
parents persuaded me by stating that this might be the only time I see a piece of history like this
because the Amistad sails all over the country. One never knows when the Amistad will be in port
in Connecticut.
My anxiety concerning the size of the boat dissipated because the Amistad ... Show more content on

The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth
The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth
Biology II 1996
Bacteria are the most common and ancient microorganisms on earth. Most bacteria are
microscopic, measuring 1 micron in length. However, colonies of bacteria grown in a laboratory
petri dish can be seen with the unaided eye.
There are many divisions and classifications of bacteria that assist in identifying them. The first two
types of bacteria are archaebacteria and eubacteria. Both groups have common ancestors dating to
more than 3 billion years ago. Archaebacteria live in environments where, because of the high
temperature, no other life can grow. These environments include hot springs and areas of volcanic
activity. They contain lipids but lack certain chemicals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This antibiotic acts by limiting normal protein synthesis.
Streptomycin is effective against E. Coli, gram negative bacilli, as well as many cocci.
Neomycin an antibiotic derived from a strain of Streptomyces fradiae.
Neomycin effectively destroys a wide range of bacteria.
Kanamycin an antibiotic substance derived from Streptomyces kanamycetius. Its antibacterial
action is very similar to that of neomycin. Kanamycin works against many aerobic gram positive
and gram negative bacteria, especially E. coli. Protracted use may result in auditory as well as other
damages.
Erythromycin is an antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces erythreaus. This antibiotic
works by inhibiting protein synthesis but not nucleic synthesis. Erythromycin has inhibitory effects
on gram negative cocci as well as some gram positive bacteria.
Chloramphenicol is a clinically useful antibiotic in combating serious infections caused by certain
bacteria in place of potentially hazardous means of solving the problem. In lab tests, it has been
shown that this medicine stopped bacterial reproduction in a wide range of both gram positive and
gram negative bacteria. The inhibition of cell reproduction caused by Chloramphenicol takes place
through interference with protein synthesis.
An experiment was conducted in order to determine which antibiotics are most effective in
inhibiting bacterial growth. First, the different bacteria were placed on agar

The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay
Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a
concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in
ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique.
Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled
Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while
Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber
German body).
Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related
and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New
York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have
developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now
there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre.
How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods?
While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look
good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine.
Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back
Like classical Pilates and the Lotte Berk method, many of the current barre franchise regimes place
the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this

Elizabeth Bennet Enlightenment
Elizabeth Bennet As An Enlightenment Figure
During the Regency Period of 19th century England, traditions and strict social standards
characterized society. The lower class were inferior to the wealthy, and the sentiment of male
superiority suppressed the potential of women. However, these standards were challenged by the
Age of Enlightenment, which occurred prior to the Regency Period and inspired the use of
independent thinking. Enlightenment figures questioned traditional authority and embraced the
notion that humanity could be improved through rational change, therefore providing the impetus
for others to diverge from set customs (History.com Staff). In Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice,
Elizabeth Bennet demonstrates the qualities of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, she has a tendency to prematurely judge a person s character and establish an opinion of
them. Upon first meeting Mr. Darcy, she overhears a distasteful conversation between him and
Mr. Bingley, which leads her to assume that she has no very cordial feelings towards him
(Austen 14). Elizabeth s negative opinion of Mr. Darcy intensifies when Mr. Wickham tells her
stories that appear to confirm his overly prideful demeanor. Mr. Darcy, however, believes that
Elizabeth is too rash in her judgements, and says, I can readily believe [...] that reports may vary
greatly with respect to me; and I could wish Miss Bennet, that you were not to sketch my character
at the present moment (Austen 92). Darcy knows that Wickham s stories are false, but Elizabeth s
flaw initially prevents her from listening to his reasoning. She firmly turns down his first marriage
proposal, claiming that she has every reason in the world to think ill of [him] (Austen 186);
however, in a subsequent letter, Darcy gives a thorough explanation concerning Elizabeth s
misgivings. After reading over his message multiple times, Elizabeth finally realizes her mistakes.
She grows absolutely ashamed of herself, and admits, Until this moment, I never knew myself

Elizabeth breaks from the conventional way of thinking by learning how to accept and overcome her

people. Everybody including blind people needs to move. Hence there are some limitations with
such devices as they are not much efficient. With the advancement of technology, several prototypes
have been developed for blind assistance. They are usually known as blind stick. For the betterment
of Pakistan and third worldcountries which are least developed proposing a user friendly and cost

design of this smart blind stick is the use of a reflective technique that is known as diffuse
scanning method that is cost effective and will also only help in rehabilitation of blind individuals

individuals.
Significant components used are IR emitter, IR receiver, potentiometer and amplifierto form prime

A photoelectric sensor is a device that senses a change in light beam intensity. Characteristically,
this means either non detection or detection of the sensor s emitted light source. Depending upon
sensors, the nature of light and method by which the target is detected varies accordingly.
It is sometimes called proximity mode. For application of this mode, the transmitter and receiver of

The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands
The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands
Shane J. Methvin
BYU Idaho
Abstract
There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have
been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to
be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both
livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable
woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be
choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects
as well if managed improperly. If controlled burns are managed properly, the overall... Show more

Such was the case in the study conducted by a Texas AgriLife Research Range ecologist
(Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the
reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned
rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas
simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the
winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody
plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The
results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in
reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public
s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and
range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to
burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted
woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s
opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses.
If controlled burns continue to be suppressed by the public and

Health Promotion Is An Important Aspect Of Nursing
The world is an ever changing place and so are the cultures represented within. While providing
care, it is a nurse s responsibility to keep up with these constant changes and learn to accommodate
everyone. This is not always an easy task as it requires the nurse to set aside their biases and fully
embrace the newly emerging cultures. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual and Questioning
culture, also known as LGBTQ, has been slowly emerging and gaining more attention throughout
the past century. It is essential for nurses to acquire knowledge about them to better serve their
community in a culturally sensitive manner. As health promotion is an important aspect of nursing,
it must be attuned carefully to each culture to be effective. According to Caring for Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, and Transsexual Parents and their Children (2012), the estimated number of LGBTQ
living in the United States is 3.8 percent of the population. That is an astonishing number
considering, due to the persistent stigma of this culture, many members do not disclose their sexual
preferences, and therefore, a precise number is likely much higher than that. With recent advances
in legal rights for LGBTQ, it is not surprising that many of them live as familyunits and are raising
children. Despite improvements towards equality, there are still many challenges for this group,
and society remains far from being accepting. In fact, only 47% of Americans favor same sex
marriage and consequently, 23% of

Jelly Roll Morton Research Paper
Jelly Roll Morton was one of the greatest most talented mans to play the pianist at the tempo he
plays it s at. After sitting and listening to for an hour and a half I realized what a great pianist
was. I was exotic when I heard him playing; it was nothing to do but flow with the music after

Religion In The Starry Night
The Starry Night, one of the many paintings by Vincent van Gogh, is by far one of his most well
known artworks. When looking at this painting, the viewer is submerged in color and motion as
the eye travels around the iconic landscape. Not only is it visually pleasing, it has emotion and
spiritual ties to the artist himself. Van Gogh s lack of evangelical ministry as well as his dwindling
mental state was a force of reconciliation within his artwork, and the outcome was magnificent. The
Starry Nightwas painted as a manifestation of religious and spiritual expression to through
symbolism and color theory.
Before van Gogh was an artist, he spent time as a teacher, an assistant preacher, a bookseller, and
then went to school for theology. He finally abandons all these pursuits by becoming an evangelist
to coal miners in southern Belgium. He empathized with them and acquired humanitarian like
traits; it was there that occurred the transformation of his love of God...into his love of art. Van
Gogh found himself in the midst of the Realism movement, which started in the1860s and ended
in the1890s. Since Realism was a social response to Romanticism, realist artists felt the need to
portray the world as it really was, or at least as they perceived it to be. The representation of
religion seemed to have taken a back seat in most realism art, however van Gogh seemed to have
intermingled his spirituality within his artworks. He was enthusiastic by the visual conviction that

The Moral Code Of Social And Individual Rights And...
Post conventional morality is consisting of social and individual rights and universal principles.
This stage of morality brings a hedonistic view of self and other as well as pure justice. Where
am I truly standing on? Utilitarian? Kantian? Or in between of both? Previous ethics papers have
put me into thinking who I really am and where I truly stand in moral code. I have dug my
deepest self and explored types of ideas and beliefs that I embraced. Thus, before I had actually
thought about what I truly care and role I want to play in this society, I believed that I was
utilitarian. Although, being utilitarian and my decisions did not exactly matched. The nurture part
of the life have shaped my moral code in more complicated form. Therefore, the conclusion that I
have come up with my moral code is heavily influenced by Immanuel Kant, Buddhism, and my
personal religion: Spiritualistic Agnostic. First, as growing up I was told to not to harm others
physical and psychological states. Kant also believes in the idea that not to use anyone for a means
to an end. As I make post conventional moral decision, I found myself leaning more onto Kantian
ethicsof not to use someone for a means to an end and the golden mean. Basically, decisions I
make in society reduce and/or no harm applied onto others while doing things in moderate pace or
amount. Kant believed that by having moral personality we are superior among other species.
Psychologically speaking, intelligence can be enhanced

In one case a gay couple were able to purchase eggs for a surrogate mother for two
newborns(Devine 1). Here is where commercial surrogacy causes the children to be at risk.
There is no guarantee that pedophiles will not be able to buy and raise their victims, since there
is a egg and sperm donor. No one with a physical link can protect the child due to lack of natural
nurturing links put the child at a greater risk of abuse(Devine 1) . There are many questions
from everyone, What if these people do not have the right intentions? How do we know the
surrogate mother will take care of the baby until they are born? Questions that go through
everyone s head all the time. If you have to worry about these questions or just be unsure of it
then it should be illegal. people who are unsure about drugs, or a new medication they should
take makes them double guess it. Most of the time if they have to double guess it, they do not do
it. The ultimate horror of the 21st century science is that if you have enough money you can buy
a helpless newborn baby and do whatever they liked to with it in the privacy of their own home.
There is nothing nobody can do to stop it(Devine 2). Commercial surrogacy is not something
people should not turn to when looking for a child for whatever reasons they may have. If
people were to think about it, like they do not know the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother
doesn t get a background check nor does the family getting the baby. So literally anyone with the
money can get this child. They could possibly harm the child but yet no one will never know. At
least with adoption agencies they look into families background and make sure they are fit to

previous findings, they found that HPLC diet has significantly greater reduction in Body Mass

diminishes. Therefore, Krebs et al. (2010) concluded that HPLC is a safe and effective option for
treatment of severe obesity in adolescent. This result, though, should not be generalised as the
sample is small and exclusion of children with poor family supports, various health diseases and
disorders may affect result. In addition, high drop outs rate may also affect result. On the other

CHAPTER 6 | Elasticity: The Responsiveness of Demand and Supply
1.8
No, we don t have enough information to calculate the price elasticity of demand. To calculate the
price elasticity of demand we would need to know how the quantity demanded changed in response
to a change in price keeping all other things constant. In this case other things were not held
constant: academic offerings were bolstered with at least three hands on experiences outside the
classroom, which created a buzz. This suggests that there was a shift in the demand curve and not
just a movement along it. 1.9
Using the midpoint formula, the percentage change in price = ($99 $199/$149) = 67%. Using the
midpoint formula, if sales double, then the percentage change in quantity will equal 67%. The
price elasticity of demand is 67%/ 67% = 1. Using the midpoint formula, if sales triple, then the
percentage change in quantity demanded will equal 100%. In this case, the price elasticity of
demand will be 100%/
67% = 1.49.

daily activities. A nutrient is a chemical that an organism needs to live and grow or a substance
used in an organism s metabolism which must be taken in from its environment. They are to
build and repair tissues, regulate body process and are converted to and used as energy.
Therefore, most nutrients are used to produce ATP such as carbohydrates, fat and the others. So,
we need to break down foods into its most simple forms in order to absorb the nutrients through
our digestive system. In this experiment, we will test the action of saliva and hydrochloric acid in
two carbohydrate solution with different of temperature. In this experiment, carbohydrate solution

Benedict s test, Copper(II) oxide is one of the components of Benedict s reagent. When it is
added in carbohydrate solution A(reducing sugar), the blue colour of copper(II) oxide is reduced
to insoluble red brown copper(I) oxide ions. That was caused by redox

Hunger Of Memory Analysis
In The Class the character Wei is portrayed as an immigrant who rarely participates or gets
involved with his classmates due to the language barrier. In the autobiography Hunger of Memory
by Richard Rodriguez, Rodriguez himself had difficulties participating in class, and interacting
with his fellow classmates due to the language barrier. In both The Class and Hunger of Memory
Wei and Rodriguez share the common bond of feelinglike an alien in the classroom due to knowing
more of their private language that they speak regularly speak at home to speaking a language
foreign to them, that they have to practice everyday on their own to get familiar with the language
and perfect their pronunciations.
I want people to discuss how being a child of an immigrant you have higher expectations to
achieve, such as having a good education, go to college, get good grades, and be expected to
learn a new language. I want the question to reflect back on the terms private language and
public language from Hunger of Memory and how those terms contribute to Wei s character in
the film The Class. I want people to go deeper and discuss the emotions and process both Wei and
Richard Rodriguez go through. How in the beginning both wouldn t interact in the class due to
only knowing one language properly. How they both went from shy to being a participant in class.
Both Wei and Rodriguez have respect towards their parents and do what their parents ask them too,

Analysis Of The Movie Rampart
The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year
veteran Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the
Rampart division. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding
the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and
intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the
public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional
connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a
daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to
Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact
that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was
involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the policedepartment under stress as
well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and
Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an
individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA pressures and urges
Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more fire and speculation
from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between the

Argument Against Racial Profiling
In today s society, there are a lot of crimes taking place. The biggest part of being a part of the

characteristics to determine whether a person maybe engaged in illegal activity.

The Wrongs Of Woman By Mary Wollstonecraft
Mary Wollstonecraft is hailed as a prominent figure in feminist history. Although viewed in her
time as a controversial figure, her works since have been highly regarded amongst feminist
historians. Throughout Mary s life the literature she produced, she produced with societal issues
in the forefront of her mind. Throughout her literature, Caroline Franklin explains: The need for
and loss of maternal love would become a recurring theme in Wollstonecraft s fiction.
Wollstonecraft in her numerous publications has clearly provided evidence to show her thoughts
and opinion on current matters varying from political to social. Her stance on women in regard to
social standing, education and issues such as marriage seep out of her writings. Wollstonecraft s
second novel titled The wrongs of woman contains the narrative from two women Maria and
Jemima. The two women are from two different social standings. The interesting notion in the
novel is that Maria who is of higher social standing provokes a reader to the thought she would
live a better quality of life than Jemima her lower class assistant. This is not the case as both
women despite their class and wealth both have their respective problems in life. Although at first
thought one would assume some form of wealth being from the upper classes, however whether
intended or not, Wollstonecraft makes the reader come to the conclusion that no matter her class a
woman will not have wealth, not alone anyway. The evidence for

The Artistic Influence Of Pablo Picasso s Le Rameur
The Artistic Influence of Pablo Picasso
The Houston Museum of Fine Arts carries this eye catching painting constructed by the late Pablo
Picasso. This particular abstract painting of Picasso looks as if a man is sitting at a piano. Upon
further observation of the painting I came to realize that the artwork was distinctively named Le
Rameur , which means The Rower in French. The Rower can be placed in the art movement known
as Analytic Cubism. Analytic Cubism refers to PicassoВґs interest in breaking down or analyzing
forms and space into smaller geometric shapes. In Le Rameur, Picasso uses his Cubism method
that embellishes rectangles, triangles, and spheres and squares to bring out the detail. The artwork
itself looks very dull and unfinished and is evident that Picasso made use of muted colors such as ...

Egg Osmosis Lab Report
How Do Different Concentrations of Sucrose Influence Osmosis of a De Shelled Egg
10/14/2017
BIOL 2110L
Professor Rollins
By: Autumn Maxey
Lab Partners: Joanna Galan, Karena Newell, Allyson Clark Introduction: Osmosis by definition is
the process of diffusion in which a fluid moves from an area of less concentration a hypotonic
solution, of dissolved particles to a region of higher concentration or hypertonic solution, of
dissolved particles across a semi permeable membrane (a membrane that only allows specific
membranes to pass through it). Because there is a difference in the concentration gradient, the
dissolved particles are free to move across the semi permeable membrane from the higher
concentration to the lower concentration. In order to study the transfer of liquid across the plasma
membrane, in this experiment a de mineralized egg was examined. Upon receiving the eggs they
had already previously been soaked in a vinegar solution for several days, dissolving the eggs
shells thus leaving a thin semi permeable membrane exposed, which is representative of the cells in
our bodies. In this experiment the process of osmosis is being observed and the different conditions
in which osmosis occurs. In the egg osmosis experiment kinetic energy is used making this process
a passive transport in passive processes concentration or pressure differences drive the movement
(Marieb,Smith, 2007) since ATP is not required which is called facilitated diffusion

Sports in Pop Culture
Abstract
Gender, race, and competitiveness in youth sports have been controversial beginning on the very
first day of sports broadening its boundaries (Granderson, 2012). From Brent Barry to Kristy
Yamaguchi to Tiger Woods, one of the youngest golf champions ever, sports has always been one
way. Different people of different backgrounds, ethnic groups, and social classes, and ages have
shown that he or she can do anything if they have the will to accomplish the task (Granderson,
2012). Tiger Woods won 71 PGA Tours, Kristy Yamaguchi excelled in figure skating and Brent
Barry showed that White men can jump when he won the 1996 slam dunk contest. Race, gender,

The United States appears to be a nation obsessed with sports, more than fans based on the virtual

Halifax Explosion Essay
On the morning of December 6, 1917, a tragic disaster prevailed itself in the city of Halifax,
Nova Scotia. During WW1, the cause of this tragedy was the collision of two ships; the
Norwegian vessel SS Imo and the Belgian steamer, the Mont Blanc which occurred in front of
the Halifax port. Halifax played a crucial role during the war because it was deemed the docking

the largest blast in Canadian history, which in turn caused rigorous turmoil throughout the

The Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company
General Information
In 1822, the very first cruise line, known as the Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company,
was founded by Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson, both experienced in the shipping
industry. Its first ship was the 206 ton paddle steamer called the William Fawcett, which was first
deployed in 1835 from London to Spain and Portugal. More recently, in the 1960 s and early 1970
s, three of the world s largest cruise lines were established. The first one, Norwegian Cruise Line,
was introduced when airline travel was becoming increasingly popular. The cruise industry declined
significantly from this competition. The second cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, was also

The cruise industry has definitely evolved over the years to meet the changing demands and
expectations of its passengers. The most important changes in the industry over the years are the
introduction of shore excursions, new cruise routes and changes in the ships themselves. The
first cruise ships offered few to no excursions while all the modern cruise lines offer over 100
excursions per cruise. These excursions can include participating in an actual boat race in
Philipsburg, climbing waterfalls in Ocho Rios and scuba diving which is always very popular
among passengers. They are designed to give the passengers a new and thrilling experience that
they cannot attain at home. In the old days, the only cruise routes available were transatlantic and
small European routes. The transatlantic route became unpopular in the 1960 s as air travel
shortened travelling time from less than 20 hours by air versus four days by cruise. However, with

My Life Goals For College
Most of my pre teen years I thought I was not able to go to college. I thought it was too expensive
and that only the smart people and people who had enough money could go. Until I got to middle
school, I found out about scholarships and how they can really help students of parents with low
income go to college. I wanted to learn more and more about programs that help students like me.
I wanted to make my parents proud but most importantly, myself. I think college is a gateway to
a million possibilities and doing the things you love for the rest of your life. This was the start
of my lifelong goals. I was born in Walla Walla Washington, on September 5th of 2000 but was
raised in Lakewood Washington. I m the oldest of my three siblings. Both of my parents come
from Oaxaca, Mexico. As the oldest sibling, I never had help with school. This kind of affected me
with school. My grandparents didn t have enough money to pay for my parents high school
education. I was raised to have responsibilities ate the age of 9, when my parents worked a lot
because they needed money. I now go to Mount Tahoma high school and will be a graduate of
class of 2019 next year. I am hoping that I get enough help to pay for college. I also am the first
generation in my family that will attend college, I used to think I wasn t going to be able to know
things about college because my parents didn t know anything about it, but then I joined a college
program that showed me what college really was.

to be too number oriented and boring.
A study by Friedlan (1995) asked Canadian accounting students both at the beginning and end of the
course the perceived importance of 12 skills on their ability to perform well in introductory
accounting, and the importance of 13 skills for performance as accounting practitioners. While the
Friedlan study assessed students perceptions of the skills needed to perform well academically and
professionally, it did not directly assess students perceptions of the introductory accounting course
itself.
Benefits
There have been several studies that have attempted to examine whether the introductory
accounting course has the ability to attract the best and the brightest students to accounting (e.g.,
Inman, Wentzler, and Wicker, 1989; Baldwin and Ingram, 1991; Adams, Pryor, and Adams, 1994;
Nelson and Deines, 1995; Riordan, St. Pierre, and Matoney, 1996). Riordan, et al. (1996) examined
whether the introductory course appeared to attract or retain quality students (as measured by
GPA). They found that the mean GPA of intended accounting majors was higher than that of non
accounting students before the introductory course, and that students transferring into accounting
after the course had higher GPAs than those transferring out. These results suggest that the

Architecture Of The Renaissance Period
The Renaissance period was a time filled with new ideas and developments that changed European
society. Many cultural and scientific advances were made during this period, especially in
architecture and medicine. As Arthur Ericsson states the period was studded by the names of
architects such as Filippo Brunelleschi and Donato Bramante, whose creations are recorded as great
historical events. The Renaissanceperiod is also well known for the new scientific discoveries made
through the examination of the human body. The European society changed greatly during the
Renaissance period due to the many cultural and scientific advances made particularly in
architecture and medicine.
The architecture of the Renaissance period replaced the medieval gothic style with a style
representing the rebirth of classical civilization. One of the famous architects in the early
Renaissance was Filippo Brunelleschi. Through looking at the old Roman and Greek architecture,
he was able to bring back the old traditional buildings and arches, but in a more effective and
proportional way. In the early Renaissance, the Florentines fathers created a competition for the
ideal dome design. Many architects came from all around Europe to showcase their designs.
Brunelleschi had won for his amazing yet risky plan. He designed the dome with two concentric
shells. The inner shell facing the inside of the cathedral, and the outer shell would be a large dome.
He bound the walls with tension rings of

Alphonse Kombi was murdered by militiamen in February. His wife, Bimosa, watched them eat
his heart before they raped her, neighbours say. The trauma drove her insane. Two of the Kombis
four children had already died of malnutrition. Then, a fortnight ago, a distant relative came to
collect the two survivors an emaciated eight year old and four year old... I have come to try to
prevent these ones from dying, said Mr Kiyana, pointing to the two boney forms slumped on the
ward s concrete floor. With their skin drawn tight over fragile bones, the children s... Show more

Not only are these ideas full of ambiguity, they are also idealistic in that both compassion and
solidarity fail to incorporate the human natural instinct to survive. However, even if these concepts
did provide a realistic solution, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II are still going in the wrong
direction, because if they were to try and end the million homicides occurring worldwide, their
efforts would need to be collaborative.
II. The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II:
Tezin Gyatso, the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet, was born in Amdo, China on
July 6, 1935 into a peasant family. At the age of two, Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation
of the 13th Dalai Lama, and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of
Compassion. Gyatso s life as the Dalai Lama began when he was enthroned at the age of four in
Lhasa. However his political responsibilities did not arise until 1950 when thousands of soldiers
of the People s Liberation Army invaded Lhasa. In 1959, the Tibetans held the largest
demonstration against China s invasion of their home, therefore declaring Tibet s already
established independence. This was known as the Tibetan National Uprising, which was crushed
by the Chinese army. As a result, Gyatso and over 100,000 Tibetans fled across the Himalayas and
into India where His Holiness was given political asylum.

Registered Nurse Personal Statement
My interest in nursing began when I was a young girl, being part of a dance group that traveled
to nursing facilities throughout Pennsylvania to bring joy to the elder population. This
experience introduced me to the healthcare field and developed my perception of both the
caregiver and patient experiences. Also, contributing to my interest in the nursing field was
caring for my terminally ill uncle, with my mother, until he passed. Originally, being only 9
years of age, this experience made me angry and confused, however, gave me motivation to find
out more information such as what treatments we were taking him to, why they didn t cure him,
what was cancer, and how does it take a person s life. Finally, I have always excelled and had a
love for science and math, which has assisted me through achieving my dreams of becoming a
registered nurse. These experiences developed a few main personal traits... Show more content on

I successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX RN) on my first
attempt and received the opportunity to begin my career in orthopedics, stroke, and trauma at a
level one trauma, acute care community hospital. I am grateful for this opportunity because it
allowed me to apply my personal traits, mentioned previously, along with newly understood
knowledge. Over the last two years I have mastered my time management, prioritization, and
delegation skills to care for my patients and their family s appropriately. My career thus far has
allowed me to develop a special interest in critical care. I love being involved with my patients,
providing clinical care, education, and support through patient centered care. Therefore, my plans
after completion of my bachelor s in science degree in June of 2018 is to complete my critical
care registered nurse certification and begin my journey in a master s in science program to
become a nurse

Summary Of Till We Have Faces
Grant Petersen Honors English 10 10/1/17 Block 1 Book Report #1 Till We Have Faces (C.S.
Lewis) One of the nation s most recognized novels is the renowned classic Till We Have Faces.
Written by C.S. Lewis, this classic is a one for one first person journalized memoir from the
perspective of a since exiled elderly ruler Orual, who has yet to meet her goals of castigating the
gods of her time. Throughout the novel, Lewis includes an interesting plot that encompasses a
strange but vivid course of elements. Moreover, Lewis manages to symbolically capture some of
the most fascinating aspects of human culture from past to modern day living. As for the story s
plot, a series of settings, ideas, and events construct this rather dire... Show more content on

This process is completed by compelling the reader to include themselves in all manner of
physical senses. This will inevitably emulate an evocative inner world to the extent where the
reader can have an approximate understanding of the actual emotions and struggles dealt with by
the novel. On the second hand, with much trial and tribulation does much learning and upskill
come. As the title of the book suggests, Orual asks How can they (The gods) meet us face to
face till we have faces? (294). In a great deal of the book, Orual hides her ugliness behind a veil
which consequently causes her to be contextually blind from the aftermath of her actions. Thus,
the question implies the idea that one should come to a fuller understanding of themselves to
shave away their afflictions and illusions. This will allow others (Or the gods), to have the ability
to open up and express necessary material. Orual comes to this conclusion at the end of the book
during her judgment. A long tough ridden journey of trial and tribulation has eventually paid off
as greater knowledge and a wider perspective. To succor, many of the novel s symbols assist in
understanding the characters and plot. Like many other stories despite the novel s appalling plot,
some of the most prominent characters represent a somewhat Christ like exemplary figure in some
given manner. A prime example, for instance, is Psyche s appearance to

The Government Authority Of The United States
When one looks at federalism throughout the United States, do most think that it is still relevant to
this day? Some think that it has remained consistent since the passing of the Constitution. But
some people in today s society think that the government authority that is supposed to be shared
between the national and local governments is starting to be overpowered by federal law and local
and state governments are not getting the rights promised to them years ago when the Constitution
was passed. The reality in today s society is that apart from military affairs and international
diplomacy, most national laws, policies, and programs are shaped, administered, or funded in
whole or in part through a complex, and often contentious system of federal state relations. The
arguments of the antifederalists are beginning to come through, that even though states still have
some flexibility in implementing policies, it is overall the federal government that has the final
say. The federal government has taken over many places in which used to be governed over by
that states, such as social welfare policy, education, health care, and a minimum wage (Wilson,
DiIulio, Bose, 2011). A big debate in recent years over whether it should be regulated by federal or
state law is the debate over gun control throughout the United States. The debate over gun control in
the United States today relates to the debate over federalism because of different cases in recent
history relating to gun

Nitration Of Methyl Benzoate Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment is to study an electrophilic aromatic substitution. With observing
this substitution, the identity of the major product will be discovered. The method used to reach
the purpose of the experiment is a TLC. The nitration of methyl benzoate with a mixture of sulfuric
acid and nitric acid will be performed in the experiment. NO2 is the electrophile in the experiment,
and it is an electron withdrawing group that makes the methyl benzoate less reactive. The NO2
group in this nitration can be added to three different positions ortho, para, or meta. When the NO2
is added, it makes a methyl nitrobenzoate. The weight recorded of methyl benzoate in the start of
the experiment is 3.397 grams. The weight of the crude product

Evaluation Of A Good Physiological Experiment
Introduction:
A Good physiological experiment like a good physical requires that it should present anywhere, at
any time, under identical conditions, the same certain and unequivocal phenomena that can be
always be confirmed , Johannes Muller as an archetype this is the ideal for any experiment and
subsequent experiments.
If protocols and procedures applications are correctly, they should be repeatable and any results
should be consistent.
With regard to thermal stress, the following should be noted: Thermal homeostasis is a careful
balance of heat production and heat loss with the aim of keeping a constant body temperature. This
range as defined by Anderson, Hall and Martin is 36.1В°C and 37.8В°C, (Anderson et al., 2004)
stating that this mechanism is governed primarily by the hypothalamus, which balances this
between heat loss and heat gain. Since the factor of heat stress we are looking at is heat gain, from
exercise and environmental factors, we need to understand what these are. Both Anderson et al,
Mcardle, et al, agree on the factors, Radiation, Conduction, Convection and Evaporation as the four
factors regulating heat loss. (McArdle, Katch and Katch, 2006)
There are practical considerations with environmental factors such as air temperature and humidity
to consider, since these will not be controllable in a field situation, but will be to a degree in a
laboratory environment. In the field, testing both temperature and humidity can fluctuate greatly,

competitivo y tener mГЎs

By The Waters Of Babylon
Being brave and breaking societal norms and being different, even at the expense of personal
reputation, is worth it. By the Waters of Babylon by Stephen Vincent BenГ©t is a short story
about the journey and discoveries of a boy named John. John is a priest (and the son of a priest)
in a primitive society. In By the Waters of Babylon, John journeys east, even though it is
forbidden to do so, and finds a city that we later learn is New York. This leads to several revelations
for John. John is brave, and breaks societal norms, and is rewarded with knowledgethat can help his
entire civilisation. Being brave and breaking norms worth it.
John is brave and breaks norms when he ventures east. In doing so, he risks be ostracised by his
people. He is also taught that he will be killed by the gods if he ventures east. This shows John is
very brave and courageous, as he risks many things when he goes east. This bravery is
represented in the text by the Ou dis sun (Hudson) river. John s culture believes that you will be
destroyed by the gods if you cross the river. The river is a definitive line, a mark in the ground. It
is like a mental wall. Yet John summons the courage to cross the river. The river crossing represents
that John is being brave and different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He learns that their were people in the past with great technology, not gods. He realises that much
of the information he has been told by his father and the rest of his society is simply not true. To
come to this revelation, he had to stop believing what he had heard his entire life. He chose to
break from the societal norm, he chose to be brave, and thus was rewarded with knowledge and truth

Research Paper On The Milkmaid
The milkmaid is an oil on canvas of 45.5 x 41 cm by the famous Dutch painter Johannes
Vermeer. The maid is standing in a plain scullery type room carefully pouring milk into an
earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces
and a full bread basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a
woman in the middle class.
The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking the faceof the milkmaid as a starting point, it is
important to focus on the light coming from the window and reflecting directly upon her face in
shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three dimensionality. It makes the viewers
focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and
the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the left foreground to the maid s head. These
lines intersect at the maid s wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the
work are the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman s clothes,
and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less important than the line from the maid
eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her
diagonal slant of her arm and head.

Since they are in the media so much, they are constantly influencing society, especially younger audiences. These celebrities are not positive role models for today s youth. They are not positive role models because they make peoplebelieve dangerous, and untrue information regarding health, appearance is more important than everything else, and that more money means more respect. Everyday people are paying attention to celebritys advice, since they seem to be very successful. They want to listen to their advice to make their own lives prosperous. However, some of this advice can be more harmful than beneficial. For example, many celebritiesshare medical advice that can be damaging. • 5. Amistad Field Trip To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all written requirements because I believed the boat was small and cramped. Jackie, who was the instructor of the Amistad, who spoke at Options, gave us background history about the boat. It was from this background history that I interpreted the boat was small and cramped. Even though I had not seen the boat in person, I believed it was tiny and restricted. My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin offered me information about who was going on the trip, the food that was being ordered, and staff that were going. The Options staff that were traveling to see the ship were my teachers. My parents persuaded me by stating that this might be the only time I see a piece of history like this because the Amistad sails all over the country. • 6. The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth Biology II 1996 Bacteria are the most common and ancient microorganisms on earth. Most bacteria are microscopic, measuring 1 micron in length. However, colonies of bacteria grown in a laboratory petri dish can be seen with the unaided eye. There are many divisions and classifications of bacteria that assist in identifying them. The first two types of bacteria are archaebacteria and eubacteria. Both groups have common ancestors dating to more than 3 billion years ago. Archaebacteria live in environments where, because of the high temperature, no other life can grow. These environments include hot springs and areas of volcanic activity. Its antibacterial action is very similar to that of neomycin. Kanamycin works against many aerobic gram positive and gram negative bacteria, especially E. coli. Protracted use may result in auditory as well as other damages. Erythromycin is an antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces erythreaus. This antibiotic works by inhibiting protein synthesis but not nucleic synthesis. Erythromycin has inhibitory effects on gram negative cocci as well as some gram positive bacteria. Chloramphenicol is a clinically useful antibiotic in combating serious infections caused by certain bacteria in place of potentially hazardous means of solving the problem. In lab tests, it has been shown that this medicine stopped bacterial reproduction in a wide range of both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The inhibition of cell reproduction caused by Chloramphenicol takes place through interference with protein synthesis. An experiment was conducted in order to determine which antibiotics are most effective in inhibiting bacterial growth. First, the different bacteria were placed on agar ... • 8. The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique. Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body). Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre. How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods? While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine. Neutral Pelvis v. Upon first meeting Mr. Darcy, she overhears a distasteful conversation between him and Mr. Bingley, which leads her to assume that she has no very cordial feelings towards him (Austen 14). Elizabeth s negative opinion of Mr. Darcy intensifies when Mr. Wickham tells her stories that appear to confirm his overly prideful demeanor. Mr. Darcy, however, believes that Elizabeth is too rash in her judgements, and says, I can readily believe [...] that reports may vary greatly with respect to me; and I could wish Miss Bennet, that you were not to sketch my character at the present moment (Austen 92). Darcy knows that Wickham s stories are false, but Elizabeth s flaw initially prevents her from listening to his reasoning. She firmly turns down his first marriage proposal, claiming that she has every reason in the world to think ill of [him] (Austen 186); however, in a subsequent letter, Darcy gives a thorough explanation concerning Elizabeth s misgivings. After reading over his message multiple times, Elizabeth finally realizes her mistakes. She grows absolutely ashamed of herself, and admits, Until this moment, I never knew myself (Austen 201 202). • 12. The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands Shane J. Methvin BYU Idaho Abstract There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects as well if managed improperly. If controlled burns are managed properly, the overall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such was the case in the study conducted by a Texas AgriLife Research Range ecologist (Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses. If controlled burns continue to be suppressed by the public and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Health Promotion Is An Important Aspect Of Nursing The world is an ever changing place and so are the cultures represented within. While providing care, it is a nurse s responsibility to keep up with these constant changes and learn to accommodate everyone. This is not always an easy task as it requires the nurse to set aside their biases and fully embrace the newly emerging cultures. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual and Questioning culture, also known as LGBTQ, has been slowly emerging and gaining more attention throughout the past century. It is essential for nurses to acquire knowledge about them to better serve their community in a culturally sensitive manner. As health promotion is an important aspect of nursing, it must be attuned carefully to each culture to be effective. According to Caring for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual Parents and their Children (2012), the estimated number of LGBTQ living in the United States is 3.8 percent of the population. That is an astonishing number considering, due to the persistent stigma of this culture, many members do not disclose their sexual preferences, and therefore, a precise number is likely much higher than that. With recent advances in legal rights for LGBTQ, it is not surprising that many of them live as familyunits and are raising children. Despite improvements towards equality, there are still many challenges for this group, and society remains far from being accepting. When looking at this painting, the viewer is submerged in color and motion as the eye travels around the iconic landscape. Not only is it visually pleasing, it has emotion and spiritual ties to the artist himself. Van Gogh s lack of evangelical ministry as well as his dwindling mental state was a force of reconciliation within his artwork, and the outcome was magnificent. The Starry Nightwas painted as a manifestation of religious and spiritual expression to through symbolism and color theory. Before van Gogh was an artist, he spent time as a teacher, an assistant preacher, a bookseller, and then went to school for theology. He finally abandons all these pursuits by becoming an evangelist to coal miners in southern Belgium. He empathized with them and acquired humanitarian like traits; it was there that occurred the transformation of his love of God...into his love of art. Van Gogh found himself in the midst of the Realism movement, which started in the1860s and ended in the1890s. Since Realism was a social response to Romanticism, realist artists felt the need to portray the world as it really was, or at least as they perceived it to be. • 17. The Moral Code Of Social And Individual Rights And... Post conventional morality is consisting of social and individual rights and universal principles. This stage of morality brings a hedonistic view of self and other as well as pure justice. Where am I truly standing on? Utilitarian? Kantian? Or in between of both? Previous ethics papers have put me into thinking who I really am and where I truly stand in moral code. I have dug my deepest self and explored types of ideas and beliefs that I embraced. Thus, before I had actually thought about what I truly care and role I want to play in this society, I believed that I was utilitarian. Although, being utilitarian and my decisions did not exactly matched. The nurture part of the life have shaped my moral code in more complicated form. Therefore, the conclusion that I have come up with my moral code is heavily influenced by Immanuel Kant, Buddhism, and my personal religion: Spiritualistic Agnostic. First, as growing up I was told to not to harm others physical and psychological states. Kant also believes in the idea that not to use anyone for a means to an end. As I make post conventional moral decision, I found myself leaning more onto Kantian ethicsof not to use someone for a means to an end and the golden mean. Basically, decisions I make in society reduce and/or no harm applied onto others while doing things in moderate pace or amount. Kant believed that by having moral personality we are superior among other species. Psychologically speaking, intelligence can be enhanced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even if the overall demand for gasoline is inelastic, a revenue increase for Joe s Gas and Go will occur only if the percentage increase in price is greater than the percentage decrease in quantity demanded. If Joe s price increase is too large and Joe has other competitors who do not raise their prices, then it is possible that the percentage decrease in quantity demanded will result in a decrease in total revenue. 2. Total revenue fell during this time from $36,359,219 to $33,312,474. 123 CHAPTER 6 | Elasticity: The Responsiveness of Demand and Supply 1.8 No, we don t have enough information to calculate the price elasticity of demand. To calculate the price elasticity of demand we would need to know how the quantity demanded changed in response to a change in price keeping all other things constant. In this case other things were not held constant: academic offerings were bolstered with at least three hands on experiences outside the classroom, which created a buzz. This suggests that there was a shift in the demand curve and not just a movement along it. 1.9 Using the midpoint formula, the percentage change in price = ($99 $199/$149) = 67%. Using the midpoint formula, if sales double, then the percentage change in quantity will equal 67%. The price elasticity of demand is 67%/ 67% = 1. Using the midpoint formula, if sales triple, then the percentage change in quantity demanded will equal 100%. In this case, the price elasticity of demand will be 100%/ 67% = 1.49. 1.10 Suppose Ford did

A nutrient is a chemical that an organism needs to live and grow or a substance used in an organism s metabolism which must be taken in from its environment. They are to build and repair tissues, regulate body process and are converted to and used as energy. Therefore, most nutrients are used to produce ATP such as carbohydrates, fat and the others. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the policedepartment under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. Throughout Mary s life the literature she produced, she produced with societal issues in the forefront of her mind. Throughout her literature, Caroline Franklin explains: The need for and loss of maternal love would become a recurring theme in Wollstonecraft s fiction. Wollstonecraft in her numerous publications has clearly provided evidence to show her thoughts and opinion on current matters varying from political to social. Her stance on women in regard to social standing, education and issues such as marriage seep out of her writings. Wollstonecraft s second novel titled The wrongs of woman contains the narrative from two women Maria and Jemima. The two women are from two different social standings. The interesting notion in the novel is that Maria who is of higher social standing provokes a reader to the thought she would live a better quality of life than Jemima her lower class assistant. This is not the case as both women despite their class and wealth both have their respective problems in life. Although at first thought one would assume some form of wealth being from the upper classes, however whether intended or not, Wollstonecraft makes the reader come to the conclusion that no matter her class a woman will not have wealth, not alone anyway. Egg Osmosis Lab Report How Do Different Concentrations of Sucrose Influence Osmosis of a De Shelled Egg 10/14/2017 BIOL 2110L Professor Rollins By: Autumn Maxey Lab Partners: Joanna Galan, Karena Newell, Allyson Clark Introduction: Osmosis by definition is the process of diffusion in which a fluid moves from an area of less concentration a hypotonic solution, of dissolved particles to a region of higher concentration or hypertonic solution, of dissolved particles across a semi permeable membrane (a membrane that only allows specific membranes to pass through it). Because there is a difference in the concentration gradient, the dissolved particles are free to move across the semi permeable membrane from the higher concentration to the lower concentration. In order to study the transfer of liquid across the plasma membrane, in this experiment a de mineralized egg was examined. Upon receiving the eggs they had already previously been soaked in a vinegar solution for several days, dissolving the eggs shells thus leaving a thin semi permeable membrane exposed, which is representative of the cells in our bodies. In this experiment the process of osmosis is being observed and the different conditions in which osmosis occurs. In the egg osmosis experiment kinetic energy is used making this process a passive transport in passive processes concentration or pressure differences drive the movement (Marieb,Smith, 2007) since ATP is not required which is called facilitated diffusion . ... Not only are these ideas full of ambiguity, they are also idealistic in that both compassion and solidarity fail to incorporate the human natural instinct to survive. However, even if these concepts did provide a realistic solution, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II are still going in the wrong direction, because if they were to try and end the million homicides occurring worldwide, their efforts would need to be collaborative. II. The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II: Tezin Gyatso, the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet, was born in Amdo, China on July 6, 1935 into a peasant family. At the age of two, Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Gyatso s life as the Dalai Lama began when he was enthroned at the age of four in Lhasa. However his political responsibilities did not arise until 1950 when thousands of soldiers of the People s Liberation Army invaded Lhasa. In 1959, the Tibetans held the largest demonstration against China s invasion of their home, therefore declaring Tibet s already established independence. This was known as the Tibetan National Uprising, which was crushed by the Chinese army. As a result, Gyatso and over 100,000 Tibetans fled across the Himalayas and into India where His Holiness was given political asylum. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Registered Nurse Personal Statement My interest in nursing began when I was a young girl, being part of a dance group that traveled to nursing facilities throughout Pennsylvania to bring joy to the elder population. This experience introduced me to the healthcare field and developed my perception of both the caregiver and patient experiences. Also, contributing to my interest in the nursing field was caring for my terminally ill uncle, with my mother, until he passed. Originally, being only 9 years of age, this experience made me angry and confused, however, gave me motivation to find out more information such as what treatments we were taking him to, why they didn t cure him, what was cancer, and how does it take a person s life. Finally, I have always excelled and had a love for science and math, which has assisted me through achieving my dreams of becoming a registered nurse. • 43. Summary Of Till We Have Faces Grant Petersen Honors English 10 10/1/17 Block 1 Book Report #1 Till We Have Faces (C.S. Lewis) One of the nation s most recognized novels is the renowned classic Till We Have Faces. Written by C.S. Lewis, this classic is a one for one first person journalized memoir from the perspective of a since exiled elderly ruler Orual, who has yet to meet her goals of castigating the gods of her time. Throughout the novel, Lewis includes an interesting plot that encompasses a strange but vivid course of elements. Moreover, Lewis manages to symbolically capture some of the most fascinating aspects of human culture from past to modern day living. As for the story s plot, a series of settings, ideas, and events construct this rather dire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process is completed by compelling the reader to include themselves in all manner of physical senses. This will inevitably emulate an evocative inner world to the extent where the reader can have an approximate understanding of the actual emotions and struggles dealt with by the novel. On the second hand, with much trial and tribulation does much learning and upskill come. As the title of the book suggests, Orual asks How can they (The gods) meet us face to face till we have faces? (294). In a great deal of the book, Orual hides her ugliness behind a veil which consequently causes her to be contextually blind from the aftermath of her actions. Thus, the question implies the idea that one should come to a fuller understanding of themselves to shave away their afflictions and illusions. This will allow others (Or the gods), to have the ability to open up and express necessary material. Orual comes to this conclusion at the end of the book during her judgment. A long tough ridden journey of trial and tribulation has eventually paid off as greater knowledge and a wider perspective. To succor, many of the novel s symbols assist in understanding the characters and plot. Like many other stories despite the novel s appalling plot, some of the most prominent characters represent a somewhat Christ like exemplary figure in some given manner. A prime example, for instance, is Psyche s appearance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Government Authority Of The United States When one looks at federalism throughout the United States, do most think that it is still relevant to this day? Some think that it has remained consistent since the passing of the Constitution. But some people in today s society think that the government authority that is supposed to be shared between the national and local governments is starting to be overpowered by federal law and local and state governments are not getting the rights promised to them years ago when the Constitution was passed. The reality in today s society is that apart from military affairs and international diplomacy, most national laws, policies, and programs are shaped, administered, or funded in whole or in part through a complex, and often contentious system of federal state relations. The arguments of the antifederalists are beginning to come through, that even though states still have some flexibility in implementing policies, it is overall the federal government that has the final say. The federal government has taken over many places in which used to be governed over by that states, such as social welfare policy, education, health care, and a minimum wage (Wilson, DiIulio, Bose, 2011). A big debate in recent years over whether it should be regulated by federal or state law is the debate over gun control throughout the United States. The debate over gun control in the United States today relates to the debate over federalism because of different cases in recent history relating to gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Nitration Of Methyl Benzoate Lab Report The purpose of this experiment is to study an electrophilic aromatic substitution. With observing this substitution, the identity of the major product will be discovered. The method used to reach the purpose of the experiment is a TLC. The nitration of methyl benzoate with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid will be performed in the experiment. NO2 is the electrophile in the experiment, and it is an electron withdrawing group that makes the methyl benzoate less reactive. The NO2 group in this nitration can be added to three different positions ortho, para, or meta. When the NO2 is added, it makes a methyl nitrobenzoate. The weight recorded of methyl benzoate in the start of the experiment is 3.397 grams. The weight of the crude product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Evaluation Of A Good Physiological Experiment Introduction: A Good physiological experiment like a good physical requires that it should present anywhere, at any time, under identical conditions, the same certain and unequivocal phenomena that can be always be confirmed , Johannes Muller as an archetype this is the ideal for any experiment and subsequent experiments. If protocols and procedures applications are correctly, they should be repeatable and any results should be consistent. With regard to thermal stress, the following should be noted: Thermal homeostasis is a careful balance of heat production and heat loss with the aim of keeping a constant body temperature. This range as defined by Anderson, Hall and Martin is 36.1В°C and 37.8В°C, (Anderson et al., 2004) stating that this mechanism is governed primarily by the hypothalamus, which balances this between heat loss and heat gain. Since the factor of heat stress we are looking at is heat gain, from exercise and environmental factors, we need to understand what these are. Both Anderson et al, Mcardle, et al, agree on the factors, Radiation, Conduction, Convection and Evaporation as the four factors regulating heat loss. (McArdle, Katch and Katch, 2006) There are practical considerations with environmental factors such as air temperature and humidity to consider, since these will not be controllable in a field situation, but will be to a degree in a laboratory environment. In the field, testing both temperature and humidity can fluctuate greatly, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

• 48. By The Waters Of Babylon Being brave and breaking societal norms and being different, even at the expense of personal reputation, is worth it. By the Waters of Babylon by Stephen Vincent BenГ©t is a short story about the journey and discoveries of a boy named John. John is a priest (and the son of a priest) in a primitive society. In By the Waters of Babylon, John journeys east, even though it is forbidden to do so, and finds a city that we later learn is New York. This leads to several revelations for John. John is brave, and breaks societal norms, and is rewarded with knowledgethat can help his entire civilisation. Being brave and breaking norms worth it. John is brave and breaks norms when he ventures east. In doing so, he risks be ostracised by his people. He is also taught that he will be killed by the gods if he ventures east. This shows John is very brave and courageous, as he risks many things when he goes east. This bravery is represented in the text by the Ou dis sun (Hudson) river. John s culture believes that you will be destroyed by the gods if you cross the river. The river is a definitive line, a mark in the ground. It is like a mental wall. Yet John summons the courage to cross the river. The river crossing represents that John is being brave and different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 49. Research Paper On The Milkmaid The milkmaid is an oil on canvas of 45.5 x 41 cm by the famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The maid is standing in a plain scullery type room carefully pouring milk into an earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces and a full bread basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a woman in the middle class. The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking the faceof the milkmaid as a starting point, it is important to focus on the light coming from the window and reflecting directly upon her face in shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three dimensionality. It makes the viewers focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the left foreground to the maid s head. These lines intersect at the maid s wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the work are the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman s clothes, and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less important than the line from the maid eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her diagonal slant of her arm and head.
