Hardness Of Hardness And Hardness Testing
Determination of the Hardness Numbers for a Range of Metallic Alloy their Subsequent Correlation to
Mechanical Strength
For the following assignment a laboratory session took place where a hardness test was conducted on
a range of materials named sample A, B and C. The aims of the experiment are to establish the
hardness number for a range of carbon steels using standard hardness testers in accordance with the
relevant British standard, to develop an understanding of the relationship between the material
strength with the said parameters and to gather the test result and determine whether the materials are
either low carbon steel, medium carbon steel or high carbon steel. A report will be produced based on
the laboratory experiment and the results found.

Introduction
Background on hardness testing
Hardness is a characteristic of a material and should not be confused as a fundamental physical
property. As stated by the metals handbook hardness is defined as the resistance of metal to plastic
deformation usually done by indenting the material. It s the ability of the material to stop itself from
being permanently deformed when you apply a load to it,

Business Skills By Selling As Many Products
The objective of the task was to develop our business skills by selling as many products as we could.
The college organised in cooperation with MyBnk, a charity who delivers financial education and
enterprise experiences directly in schools and youth organisations, a workshop activity called
Enterprise in a Box, where we get to be split in groups and sell as many seed bombs as we can within
a 5 weeks deadline. All in all, I think it was a very effective activity and a very beneficial experience
as we got we sit down and we make a plan, to talk about how and to whom we will be selling our
products, at what prices, what location would be best for us to sell them, decide who was going to be
the team leader, who would be in charge of the money, who would make the posters, how we will be
approaching our possible customers, etc. We were all trying our best to sale as many seed bombs as
we could. We were energetic and enthusiastic, without dominating one another about this task, as we
took it as a challenge and our competitiveness rose. Moreover, as I was the team leader, I would try to
motivate everyone by talking to them on a one to one basis, listen to what they have to say, respect
them and lastly, I would praise them for their ideas or work, depending on how good it is, and based
on my experience, everybody wants to know how they re doing and that is why I would try and give
them feedback when needed. Also, by talking to all of them, I make sure that no one feels that is

Albert Bandura s Theory Of Observational Learning
Intro
Today, I will be talking about the famous psychologist Albert Bandura.
Who is Albert Bandura
We have obviously learned about him in the previous unit, so can anyone refresh our memories of who
he is and what did he do. Yes, it s the guy who conducted the Bobo doll experiment which reflected
how children saw the adults beating up the doll, and when the kids went in, they did the same, which
proves his theory of observational learning.
Also, do you remember the 4 processes of observation:
For example: you watch someone ride a bike which is ATTENTION
Then you when get on a bike you re supposed to remember what the person did which is
RETENTION
Then you try to ride the bike which is the act of REPRODUCTION
And finally, if you re actually MOTIVATED to ride the bike, only then you would do so, otherwise not
which is MOTIVATION
Now as we have refreshed what we learned in the course, I m going to teach you something new about
him
Timeline of Events
So first here s a timeline of his life events
So he was born on December 4, 1925 , and graduated with a degree in psychology from British
Columbia in the year of 1949. He then received his PhD in clinical psychology from the Iowa
University. In 1974, he served as a president of the American Psychological Association, and have
also received the award of lifetime achievement in the field of psychology, and that happened in 2004.
Early Life
Albert Bandura was born in a little town called Mundare which is located in Alberta.

The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful
The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful
Shyam Rangrej and Kushang Gonawala
Abstract
In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few
have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of
simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable,
semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK).
1 Introduction
Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access
points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note,
though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The
development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet.
Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been
extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In
addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the
compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Furthermore, the draw back of this type of
solution, however, is that the much touted homogeneous algorithm for the in
vestigation of spreadsheets by White is Turing complete. Along these same lines, indeed, XML and

Gender, Social, And Social Sciences And Humanities
gender role is a theoretical construct in the social sciences and humanities that refers to a set of social
and behavioral norms that, within a specific culture, are widely considered to be socially appropriate
for individuals of a specific sex. Socially accepted gender roles differ widely between different
cultures.
Sex is what we are categorized based on our reproductive organs; female or male. Sex is pretty so
concrete, for the most part, unless you are born with some rare genetic sex chromosomal disorder.
Gender, it, well can be harder to determine. Gender is merely the state of being male or female. Like
with the states of water, the state of being male or female, can be manipulated or changed. With each
gender comes certain gender roles. These roles are to help accentuate one s sex to society. Gender
roles have been around for centuries. The greatest thing we notice, when it comes to gender roles, is
how much they vary from culture to culture.
Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women s movement must concentrate
on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage.
Sheila Cronin
In the United States, and many patriarchal societies, the role of the women is to be the caregiver. It is
not uncommon to see mothers being the predominant caretakers of home, children, and anything
pertaining to family life. The father on the other hand, deals with the finances. He will

An Evaluation Of A Contemporary Issue
Task 2 An evaluation of a contemporary issue or initiative in education and how this is impacting upon
your work place SEN children and children with ESBD require support during school, post school and
transition through to adulthood. The SEND code of practice allows children and young adults to have
the support through their education and also in early employment when leaving school. I am currently
working at a school which educates children with ESBD, who also have others leaning difficulties
alongside their behavioural needs. The school is currently educating 49 children on role with several
children currently going through transition from their previous schools. The SEND code of practice

Schools are focusing too much on the label SEN, rather than meeting the needs of the children. This is
seen through current statements outlining the child s SEN and the provision that is currently in place,
but it does not take into account any focus on life outcomes for the child. Young people leave school
without the support that has been in place throughout their schooling education, which causes many
children with SEN to not succeed in adulthood. We want children and young people with special
needs and disabilities to achieve well in their early years, at school and in college; find employment;
lead happy and fulfilled lives; and have choice and control over their support. DfE, 2014 The SEND
Code of Practice will implement new approaches for support from birth to 25 for persons with SEN,
including their parents and careers and ensuring they are fully involved, which will help lead to better
outcomes. The SEND Code of Practice will be replacing statements with EHC s. EHC s are
Educational, Health and Care plans. ECH s are a person centre approach, focusing on outcome rather
than the provision for the child at that time. An EHC allows the child, parents/careers and practitioners
to have support post early education and have support through adulthood. It included a multi agency
approach to ensure that all educational needs of

Essay On American Beauty
American Beauty is an iconic, memorable and enduring watch, directed flawlessly by Sam Mendes.
The film explores and somewhat criticizes and attacks the cherished societal beliefs and institutions of
the American Dream , depicting the obsessive nature of materialism and illustrating the distortion of
appearance versus reality. Many critics have scrutinized and developed further these ideas, of which I
have analysed two critical reviews from Brittany Deschler (1999) and David Heuser. The critical
analysis of American Beauty from Brittany Deschler explores the empty promises of materialism and
Carolyn s obsession with her image and possessions as well as probing the theme of appearance
versus reality and how each character confronts this at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carolyn has closed herself away from her family and fails to see any true beauty in life through her
materialistic values and appearance of success that is anything but, in stark contrast to Lester who
longs for a true connection with his family and discovers genuine beauty towards the end of the film.
The two reviews have shaped this understanding for me and particularly Heuser s interpretation of the
main characters have demonstrated the importance of looking closer , past the false facades of others
as nothing appears as it is first seen as first impressions often prove to be false. This ideal of the
American Dream status is mainly broken down by Lester as he truly reveals himself because an
individual s facade can be deceiving to who they really are. The American Dream stereotype is
centered around the importance of showing off success through accumulation of material items as the

The Age of Innocence movie Essay example
It s New York City in the 1870s, a society ruled by expectations and propriety, where a hint of
immorality can bring scandal and ruin. This is an America every bit as Victorian as her contemporary
England. Into this world arrives Countess Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer), a woman who has spent
much of her life in Europe and is now escaping from a disastrous marriage. Her initial adult meeting
with Newland Archer (Daniel Day Lewis) is sedate he is engaged to her cousin May (Winona Ryder)

The powerful score moves along with the story, in perfect counterpoint to the visuals never intrusive,
but always effective. The scenes of artfully prepared meals are enough to make mouths water, and it s
almost possible to smell the pungent aroma of cigars. In these elements of the film, Scorsese was ably
assisted by contributions from composer Elmer Bernstein and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus.
The set design and costumes are flawless, and the audience is legitimately transported to the
nineteenth century (through the help of Troy, NY, where the principal filming was done, and the
Philadelphia Academy of Music, which doubled as a New York opera house). This is not some mere
token attempt to conjure up images of times past; Scorsese has put so much effort into the illusion that
those who didn t know better would be willing to swear that he had discovered a time capsule.
Adapting from the 1921 Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Edith Wharton (who also wrote Ethan Frome,
a similar story of love and loss, which reached American screens earlier this year), Scorsese and Jay
Cocks have successfully incorporated the conflict of emotion against societal pressures which lies at
the heart of The Age of Innocence. Those watching the movie will understand that it is no easy task to
resurrect a code of behavior long dead and buried.
Daniel Day Lewis never fails to impress, even when he appears in a poor film. For the most part,
however, he has chosen

Australia s Involvement For The Australian War
During the Second World War over a seven month period between July 1942 and January 1943, the
events of the Kokoda Trail Campaign and the Battle of the Beachheads took place on what was once
the Australian territories of Papua and New Guinea. Good morning, I am Lee Varnes, and I am
representing the Australian War Memorial to inform you of the significance of Australia s involvement
in the Papua Campaign. I will be discussing the reasons behind Japan s invasion of Papua, the course
of the campaign, the outcome of the campaign and the significance it had on the Australian people and
the soldiers involved.
Port Moresby was an extremely important tactical position for both allied forces and the Japanese; as
it would allow Japan to fulfil Operation FS and allow allied forces to attack north over the Kokoda
trail towards the Japanese base at Rabaul (Austrialian Goverment: Department of Veterans Affairs,
2015). Through the completion of Operation FS, the Japanese would be able to throttle Australia into
submission by cutting off communication and supply lines with the US , they planned to do so through
the gradual extension of Japanese control over the islands in the South East Pacific around continental
Australia (Pacific War Historical Society, n.d.). Japanese Prime Minister, Tojo Hideki, was opposed to
the direct amphibious invasion of Australia, though with Port Moresby under Japanese control it
would allow them to terrorise Australia s eastern coast as Japanese medium

Winnie s ways are more irritating than mysterious to the daughter. (Yglesias) Even in the first
sentence the reader lays eyes on, Pearl demonstrates these grievances she harbors, Whenever my
mother talks to me, she begins the conversation as if we were already in the middle of an argument.
(Tan, 3) and further in her segments of the novel, she indicates quite a few problems she has with her
mother. Similarly, Tan also has these problems with her mother Tan felt that she had disappointed her
mother when she dropped out of medical school... (Feng) I secretly worried that I had missed better
opportunities. My mother had put those thoughts in my head. (Tan, 8) To this day, it drives me crazy,
listening to her various hypothesis, the way religion, medicine and superstition all merge with her own
beliefs. (Tan, 27) Yet, sadly, Pearl also says that there s a lot I don t know about my mother. (Tan, 53)
Through these silent criticisms of her mother, Pearl assigns herself a critical perspective on her mother

1.1 Explain The Difference Between Sequence Of Development...
Explain the difference between sequence of development and rate of development and why the
difference is important.
All Children follow very similar pattern of growth and development. For e.g. Physical development
begins with baby holding its head followed by turning over, crawling, sitting and eventually walking
by the age of 12 18months. Most children follow these steps of physical development, some start
walking before their first birthday while some may start walking independently when they are
18months old or even later. Similarly, communicational development begins when baby cries to seek
attention or convey discomfort, then gradually responds carer with sounds like coo , ooh , etc. At the
age of 9months child starts saying simple words like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It Is important to understand why the child is not developing like other children in case a milestone is
not achieved by the expected age. Delays in one aspect can have a domino effect on the other
development. Communicational delays affect many aspects of life. If a child continues babbling or
stammering, he/she could be targeted by peers, get bullied or made fun of. This affects child s social
and emotional development. If a child s motor skills are not developed then he/she could face
problems with writing, handling equipment and other motor skills. Sequence of development also
guides professional at what rate an individual development is expected. If a milestone is not achieved,
then they have to identify the causes of delays. In learning environment professionals can device an
individual support plan to help the child develop and reach full potentials.
The individual support plan is prepared, followed and monitored by specialists, teachers and teaching
assistants depending on the reasons of delays.
Following are some ways in which development can be supported by teachers and teaching

Ideas of Rulers in Tao-te Ching and The Prince Essay
When comparing Tao te Ching to The Prince there are numerous differences. The authors of these two
documents had almost completely opposite ideas of how a ruler should behave and how a government
should be run. One believed that the ruler could accomplish the most by doing the least; the other
believed that by controlling how the public perceived a ruler was what would make him a success or a
failure. Machiavelli believed that to rule the prince must do things that would win approval with his
people, and that the prince must always keep and maintain arms to remain in power. On the other hand
Lao tzu believed that the master ruled with as little involvement as possible, he believed that to not do
would have the greatest effect, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout The Prince are guide lines for a ruler to follow concerning matters of how he is going to
be viewed by the people. Machiavelli says that a prince should take care to not be too generous or too
cruel as either could have a negative effect on his reputation. While these two ideas might seem to
have little relevance to one another it is just an example of how Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s ideas
about how important the rulers public persona was to their ability to rule successfully.
Finally one major difference is that Machiavelli believes that the ruler should always keep arms and be
ready to fight off a threat. Lao tzu has the idea that the only need to keep arms is for a last resort when
all other options have been exhausted. This is an enormous difference; The Prince gives the idea that
by not maintaining a military and a willingness to fight the ruler may be over thrown by either another
country or by his own people. Lao tzu gives the idea that if you rule properly you will not need the
weapon except in the most extreme circumstances. He also gives the idea that if a ruler tries to rule by
force another force opposing the ruler will come to him.
Both of these authors have good ideas on how to rule properly and have the greatest influence on their
people. While neither one of the ideas is wrong nor right they are both good proposals for any one not
just a prince or a master, but anyone who finds

Neuroplasticity Essay
Neuroplasticity is the ability our brain has to change and adapt when necessary. Physiological changes
happen in our brain due to different interactions with our environment (Campbell). Originally,
scientists thought that brain development stopped during our first few years, or our critical period
(Campbell). However, this would mean that our brains were only plastic during these early years
(Campbell). Because of this belief, doctors and scientists also believed that once there was significant
damage done to a certain area of the brain during adulthood, the nerve cells would no longer be able to
form new connections and regenerate themselves; as a result of this, the functions that controlled that
specific area of the brain would be lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, they have learned to stay under water for extended periods by lowering their heart
rates (Doidge). Not only have they learned to control their hear rates, they have also adapted to their
environment by learning to constrict their pupils by up to twenty two percent (Doidge).
Our senses are linked to memory and cognition. Damage leading to the disruption of sensory input
from one sense can lead to the improvement of the remaining senses. In the event that the visual
cortex is damaged, the sensory cortex will respond more to input from the other senses (Bates). When
sensory deprivation occurs at an early age, the other senses become heightened more than they would
be in people who lose the ability to use one of their senses later in life (Bates). Christina Karns, Mark
Dow and Helen Neville of the University of Oregon performed an experiment to see how the loss of
hearing at an early age affected neuroplasticity in the brain of a deaf person (Karns). They also wanted
to determine if this reorganization in the brain would lead to altered perceptual abilities (Karns).
Another point of interest was ascertaining if deafness affects how the brain processes both vision and
touch together (Karns). Their participants included

The illegal immigration numbers in the United States grew by an average of 525,000 people per year
from 2000 to 2005. President Fox and his government have allowed the illegal immigration population
to increase every year, for at least five years. That is not a system that regulates movement in a legal
way. Fox has stated before that he would like to see legal channels for immigrants (Thompson 1).
Everyone wants to have legal channels for immigrants and President Fox has expressed it many times,
but he does not seem to want to take the necessary action towards getting these legal channels for
immigrants. Should there be legal channels or should there be stronger laws against immigration. W.E.
Jacobs writes that during the 1920s laws to control immigration have ranged from outright bans to
some nationalities to numerical quotas imposed according to country origin (Jacobs 1). At least during
the 1920s the American government seemed to have some sort of idea on how to keep illegal
immigration down. Although laws and bans can only go so far. Maybe during the 20s all it took was a
written document to keep immigrants at bay, but now the situation has grown slightly more
complicated. The situation gets even worse as the United States population grows. A census is taken

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Essays
Mr. Smith is portrayed as an honest man with strong opinions. He is the ideal politician in an ideal
society. The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington depicts a reassuring image that happens to be an
image of the past (Wheeler). However, in today s legislature, people like Mr. Smith are rare due to the
fact that a politician s primary goal is re election. The good of the people may come as another
intention of a politician, but it is always secondary to bringing home the pork. There should be more
people like Mr. Smith because the legislature would be able to make decisions more effectively and
efficiently, rather than how slowly they currently operate. This is an unfortunate truth, yet it is how our
society has been shaped to operate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taylor, a special interest group member, controlled everything Senator Paine did until he finally
decided to change. This denotes the impact that wealth can have in the government. The system is
designed so that things such as pork barreling can pass and sometimes need to pass in order for a law
to go through. This creates a system of lies and corruption, with members of the Senate not looking
out for the national good. Senators are forced to focus on improving their own district because it is all
they can do to ensure re election. The most successful Senators do this because it gains short term
approval from their district and gets them a future vote. This is a method of maintaining their career,
and is something they are in some cases forced to do. If someone like Mr. Smith came in and was
consistently free of corruption, people would vote for him based on his truthfulness. The legislature s
set up allows for corruption to exist in the government. The government shutdown of 2013 ended after
a deal was reached in the U.S. Senate that included a provision that raised the spending cap on a dam

A Study On Student s Abilities
Design a Study
Teachers who have higher expectations of their student s abilities will have a higher academic
achievement as compared to teachers who have low expectations of their students abilities. In this
study, the independent variable is the expectation of the teachers on their student s abilities, and the
dependent variable is the student achievements based upon the teacher expectations. The
achievements can be measured by monitoring classrooms in a high school setting for English class for
one year, with some classes having a teacher with high expectations, and other classes having a
teacher with low expectations. The achievements would be measured by a preliminary assessment, test
results, quarterly reports, and an end of year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first limitation I came across was that the students themselves can determine their academic
achievements. For example they could be really good students who try there hardest no matter what or
there could be bad students who do not care if you have high expectations or not. Secondly, the
subject at hand can also have a big influence. In this case the
subject is English because it is a requirement class. Therefore if the student enjoys english they will do

Essay on Characterization in Rappaccini’s Daughter
Characterization in Rappaccini s Daughter
The dialogue, action and motivation revolve about the characters in the story (Abrams 32 33). It is the
purpose of this essay to demonstrate the types of characters present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s
Rappaccini s Daughter, whether static or dynamic, whether flat or round, and whether portrayed
through showing or telling.
The tale takes place in Padua, Italy, where a Naples student named Giovanni Guascanti has relocated
in order to attend the medical school there. His modest room is in an old mansion watched over by the
landlady, Dame Lisabetta, a two dimensional character given to religious expletives like, ``Holy
Virgin, signor! She seeks to make the customer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rappaccini, remains static throughout the tale, and never develops into more than a type character.
The reader sees another character enter the tale with the doctor s shout in the infirm voice of a person
affected with inward disease, ` Beatrice! Beatrice! From his window Giovanni sees approaching the
doctor s daughter beautiful as the day, and with a bloom so deep and vivid that one shade more would
have been too much. Her abilities are exceptional because it is apparent to Giovanni that she handled
and inhaled the odor of several of the plants which her father had most sedulously avoided. Beatrice
exhibits an especially close relationship to the purple gem plant, which Rappaccini is too fearful of
tending anymore: ``Yes, my sister, my splendour, it
shall be Beatrice s task to nurse and serve thee; and thou shalt reward her with thy kisses and
perfumed breath, which to her is as the breath of life. Beatrice is slowly developed into a round
character, not as round as Giovanni however.
As the protagonist withdraws from the window of his room in order to lie down, the author shows his
usage of an omniscient narrator in the development of this character: Giovanni, closing the lattice,
went to his couch and dreamed of

Essay Ad Management and the Recent Turmoil in Financial...
There is a need for high level of consultation, co ordination and co operation in every organization or
business. To this effect, managers all over the world are often faced with the dilemma of effectively
deploying human, material, technological, natural and financial resources to achieve desired
organizational goals and objectives.
The collapse of the financial markets, touching off reverberations in the real economy in the last
months of 2008 has inevitably been described as the worst economic catastrophe since the great
depression of the 1930s. To this effect, many observers have raised several questions such as; which
parties had a hand in the creation of the financial and emerging economic crisis? Who is to blame;
people, systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The misalignment of the interest of managers with those of the shareholders led to compensation
systems that emphasized on short term returns which lead to harmful behaviors like manipulation of
stock prices and excessive risk taking. This reward system encouraged high risk taking with a myopic
focus on short term revenue and even incentivized manager for their failures. A particular insight can
be drawn from the United Bank of Switzerland (UBS) report of 2008 which showed how employees
were compensated with strong incentives to use UBS capital to invest in high yielding mortgage
backed securities. Whilst this was, they failed to provide sufficient incentives to protect the company,
hence, mismatching priorities. This would not have proved costly if only the senior managers of the
firm were wise enough to put in place strong risk measurement and control system.
Another issue, particularly in the line of managing objectives and misalignment of incentive structure
is that of the two major financial institutions in the US; Federal National Mortgage Association
(Fannie Mae) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac). These institutions,
although government sponsored to stabilize the housing and mortgage market in the US, but also
privately owned, however still berated by the

Metabolic Alkalosis Lab Report
Metabolic alkalosis is a primary increase in serum bicarbonate (HCO3 ) concentration. This occurs as
a consequence of a loss of H+ from the body or a gain in HCO3 . In its pure form, it manifests as
alkalemia (pH 7.40). As a compensatory mechanism, metabolic alkalosis leads to alveolar
hypoventilation with a rise in arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2), which diminishes the change in
pH that would otherwise occur.
Normally, arterial PaCO2 increases by 0.5 0.7 mm Hg for every 1 mEq/L increase in plasma
bicarbonate concentration, a compensatory response that is very quick. If the change in PaCO2 is not
within this range, then a mixed acid base disturbance occurs. For example, if the increase in PaCO2 is
more than 0.7 times the increase in bicarbonate, then metabolic alkalosis coexists with primary
respiratory acidosis. Likewise, if the increase in PaCO2 is less than the expected change, then a
primary respiratory alkalosis is also present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember that an elevated serum bicarbonate concentration may also be observed as a compensatory
response to primary respiratory acidosis. However, a bicarbonate concentration greater than 35 mEq/L
is almost always caused by metabolic alkalosis.
Metabolic alkalosis is diagnosed by measuring serum electrolytes and arterial blood gases. If the
etiology of metabolic alkalosis is not clear from the clinical history and physical examination,
including drug use and the presence of hypertension, then a urine chloride ion concentration can be
obtained. Calculation of the serum anion gap may also help to differentiate between primary metabolic
alkalosis and metabolic compensation for respiratory acidosis. (See

The Golden Princess Persuasive Speech
As the princess waves her hand slightly to the right, signaling that the young man should choose the
right door, the man starts to cautiously make his way towards it. Just before he could grab the silver
lever, he thinks to himself, What if the princess knew I was going to pick the right door leading me to
the lady, instead of leading me to the ferocious man eating tiger? Why would she want me to be with
another woman whom she thinks is dire? I cannot go through with this barbaric decision. In one
instant, the young man turns swiftly to look back at the Princess, who is staring at him with fear and
softly mouthing to him, Choose the right door. He disregards her and turns to the left door, which is
latched by an enormous silver lever and he opens it with ease. While the young man tries to see
through the blackness, the princess quietly gets up from her seat and sneaks out of the arena.
The crowd gasps and cheers as the young man and the beating red tiger s eyes meet. The man s palms
start sweating as the the orange and black beast slowly backs him into the door of from which he
entered. Looking above him, he sees that the crowd as well as the king, are smiling and laughing at
him as if it was amusing, but the princess is nowhere in sight. As the young man starts to scan the
crowd for the princess, his thoughts are broken by an enormous bang! Just as the young man backs

Regina s Flour Shoppe
This rustic pie takes all the great qualities from a regular pie: A browned pastry crust plus a gooey fruit
filling minus all the fuss thanks to it s free form style.
The filling is forgiving as you can use whatever is local and in season or head to the frozen section and
take your pick of frozen fruits (there is a grocer near me that stocks frozen cloudberries and local sour
cherries what a treat!), so choose your flavor, roll out the pastry which takes some muscle, but be
patient and it will work with you.
This galette is inspired by Kimberley Phaneuf of Regina s Flour Shoppe, from the newly printed

On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough three to four times, then pat it into a disc (or two,

hours (or up to 24) before rolling.
When you re ready to roll out the galette, remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room
temperature until slightly softened, about 10 15 minutes.
Dust the countertop with flour and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough out in a
circular shape to about ¼ inch (6mm) thick. Don t worry if it looks a little wonky. It s rustic! Once
rolled, transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.
To make the filling, add the sugar, cornstarch, lemon zest, and thyme to a large bowl and mix together.
Add the fruit and stir to combine.
Pour the fruit mixture onto the centre of the prepared crust, leaving a 2 ½ inch (6 1/2 cm) border
around the edge. Fold the edges of the crust over the fruit toward the centre this will keep your filling
contained. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 30

BRAND LOYALTY/STORE LOYALTY
France is now about brand loyalty since most of the people go to grocery stores to do their shopping.
There are no real differences between grocery stores, and they almost all fight for prices, proposing
the same brands, so comparison is easy. Nevertheless, French people don t like to change the brands
that they consume. That is why new brands have to be very persuasive and incentive by proposing
samples, coupons etc.
The french market is particular concerning the way it strives to inform customers. There are a lot of
regulations and legal rules that have to be respected in order to communicate. For example, it is
forbidden to advertise cigarettes or books everywhere, and movies anywhere else other than on a
poster. Nevertheless, the french population has a good access to the traditional media and half of the
population uses internet at least once a day . The literacy rate is close to 100% and the country is

capacities prevent any difficulties in making the message reach the consumers.

Moveable Feast Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest American 20th century novelists. Born in a Chicago suburb,
he emerged as a writer quite early, starting his career immediately after high school. He served in
World War I as an ambulance driver. After the war, wounded, Hemingway returned to the U.S. for a
short time before settling in Paris with his first wife, Hadley Richardson. In his memoir A Moveable
Feast, he describes his years in Paris as a young writer, his relationship with his wife and their infant
son, as well as his circle of friends and acquaintances. However, it all seems but a background setting
for his work. Throughout A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway proves to be a dedicated writer.

Everything else he did was but means so he could be more productive. His wife, his friends and
acquaintances, his hobbies were just a distraction, something he had to do. In the chapter Une
Génération Perdue , Hemingway emphasizes that his particular writing process required times of rest,
lest his well of... writing dries up. The only time that he was not working was when he could not work,
for he had to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well. Eating, drinking,
reading, and even having sex with his wife were only something necessary to him after he had written
(12).
For any talented writer, writing opens up a new world, a new reality to live in. Hemingway was not an
exception: For him, writing was indeed an escape from objective reality. The way he describes his
writing process in the chapter A Good Café on the Place St. Michel suggests how deep he would
wander far into the story and get lost in it. When he was writing, the whole world around him would
fade from existence; he did not look up nor know anything about the time (5). Hemingway s ability to
be so submerged in work emphasizes the role writing played in his

Whether a person leaves a society does not change anything to the fact that this society will still
contain suicides. Sociology s task thus consists of discovering the qualities and characteristics of such
social facts, which can be discovered through a quantitative or experimental approach (Durkheim
extensively relied on statistics). One can thus argue that Durkheim defended a form of sociological
positivism.[7]
Method and objectivity
In his Rules of the Sociological Method (1895), Durkheim expressed his will to establish a method
which would guarantee sociology s truly scientific character. One of the questions raised by the author
concerns the objectivity of the sociologist: how may one study an object which, from the very
beginning, conditions and relates to the observer? According to Durkheim, observation must be as
impartial and impersonal as possible, even though a perfectly objective observation in this sense may
never be attained. Sociology should therefore privilege comparison rather than the study of singular
independent facts. Consequently, a social fact must always be studied according to its relation with
other social facts, never according to the individual who studies it.

Durkheim was also interested in education. Partially this was because he was professionally employed

The Problem Of Aging Population
An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life
expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in other
countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The population of
citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1 million in 2012, to
83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time (Ortman, Velkoff,
Hogan, others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in the percentage of older
people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly insignificant is going to pose
a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help older individuals. These
burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily impact a healthcare climate
that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate preparation to be made in form of
public policies that plan for the future. The three most important public policy issues facing the United
States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring long term services and supports, and health
coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal
policy directed towards ensuring increased care for older citizens. It created the Administration on

Workplace Safety In The Workplace
Workplace safety is a big deal. If you don t think so, take a look at the research done by the
Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA).American employers pay out an average of $1
billion per week for workman s compensation fees. Mind you, this doesn t include medical and legal
fees that incur. Staying on top of the safety aspect in your workplace is not only essential because you
don t want to see anyone get hurt. It s essential because it s best for the financial health of your
business. When it comes to workplace safety, employee engagement needs to be placed high on the
list of topics to approach. This is the case for a few reasons.
1.Perception
It s often stated that perception is everything. People filter information through the lens of their own
perceptions. Whether their perception is healthy or not, they re bound to look at it through that lens.
So, as an employer that s desiring employee engagement, it s important to consider a person s
perception. While you re not responsible for every little detail of why people perceive information the
way that they do, you do need to take it into account. For example, if something happens with a
machine breaking down and it s the fault of a particular employee, the initial feelings might be mixed
with anger and frustration. However, it s best to calm down, get collected and face the issue with a
cool head. If you get behind the computer and type an angry email with all caps, the perception is that
you re angry,

  • 3. Business Skills By Selling As Many Products The objective of the task was to develop our business skills by selling as many products as we could. The college organised in cooperation with MyBnk, a charity who delivers financial education and enterprise experiences directly in schools and youth organisations, a workshop activity called Enterprise in a Box, where we get to be split in groups and sell as many seed bombs as we can within a 5 weeks deadline. All in all, I think it was a very effective activity and a very beneficial experience as we got we sit down and we make a plan, to talk about how and to whom we will be selling our products, at what prices, what location would be best for us to sell them, decide who was going to be the team leader, who would be in charge of the money, who would make the posters, how we will be approaching our possible customers, etc. We were all trying our best to sale as many seed bombs as we could. We were energetic and enthusiastic, without dominating one another about this task, as we took it as a challenge and our competitiveness rose. Moreover, as I was the team leader, I would try to motivate everyone by talking to them on a one to one basis, listen to what they have to say, respect them and lastly, I would praise them for their ideas or work, depending on how good it is, and based on my experience, everybody wants to know how they re doing and that is why I would try and give them feedback when needed. Also, by talking to all of them, I make sure that no one feels that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Albert Bandura s Theory Of Observational Learning Intro Today, I will be talking about the famous psychologist Albert Bandura. Who is Albert Bandura We have obviously learned about him in the previous unit, so can anyone refresh our memories of who he is and what did he do. Yes, it s the guy who conducted the Bobo doll experiment which reflected how children saw the adults beating up the doll, and when the kids went in, they did the same, which proves his theory of observational learning. Also, do you remember the 4 processes of observation: For example: you watch someone ride a bike which is ATTENTION Then you when get on a bike you re supposed to remember what the person did which is RETENTION Then you try to ride the bike which is the act of REPRODUCTION And finally, if you re actually MOTIVATED to ride the bike, only then you would do so, otherwise not which is MOTIVATION Now as we have refreshed what we learned in the course, I m going to teach you something new about him Timeline of Events So first here s a timeline of his life events So he was born on December 4, 1925 , and graduated with a degree in psychology from British Columbia in the year of 1949. He then received his PhD in clinical psychology from the Iowa University. In 1974, he served as a president of the American Psychological Association, and have also received the award of lifetime achievement in the field of psychology, and that happened in 2004. • 5. The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful Shyam Rangrej and Kushang Gonawala Abstract In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable, semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK). 1 Introduction Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note, though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet. Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Furthermore, the draw back of this type of solution, however, is that the much touted homogeneous algorithm for the in vestigation of spreadsheets by White is Turing complete. Along these same lines, indeed, XML and link level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gender, Social, And Social Sciences And Humanities gender role is a theoretical construct in the social sciences and humanities that refers to a set of social and behavioral norms that, within a specific culture, are widely considered to be socially appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. Socially accepted gender roles differ widely between different cultures. Sex is what we are categorized based on our reproductive organs; female or male. Sex is pretty so concrete, for the most part, unless you are born with some rare genetic sex chromosomal disorder. Gender, it, well can be harder to determine. Gender is merely the state of being male or female. Like with the states of water, the state of being male or female, can be manipulated or changed. With each gender comes certain gender roles. These roles are to help accentuate one s sex to society. Gender roles have been around for centuries. The greatest thing we notice, when it comes to gender roles, is how much they vary from culture to culture. Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women s movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage. Sheila Cronin In the United States, and many patriarchal societies, the role of the women is to be the caregiver. It is not uncommon to see mothers being the predominant caretakers of home, children, and anything pertaining to family life. The father on the other hand, deals with the finances. He will ... • 7. An Evaluation Of A Contemporary Issue Task 2 An evaluation of a contemporary issue or initiative in education and how this is impacting upon your work place SEN children and children with ESBD require support during school, post school and transition through to adulthood. The SEND code of practice allows children and young adults to have the support through their education and also in early employment when leaving school. I am currently working at a school which educates children with ESBD, who also have others leaning difficulties alongside their behavioural needs. The school is currently educating 49 children on role with several children currently going through transition from their previous schools. The SEND code of practice has given all practitioners at the school a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools are focusing too much on the label SEN, rather than meeting the needs of the children. This is seen through current statements outlining the child s SEN and the provision that is currently in place, but it does not take into account any focus on life outcomes for the child. Young people leave school without the support that has been in place throughout their schooling education, which causes many children with SEN to not succeed in adulthood. We want children and young people with special needs and disabilities to achieve well in their early years, at school and in college; find employment; lead happy and fulfilled lives; and have choice and control over their support. DfE, 2014 The SEND Code of Practice will implement new approaches for support from birth to 25 for persons with SEN, including their parents and careers and ensuring they are fully involved, which will help lead to better outcomes. The SEND Code of Practice will be replacing statements with EHC s. EHC s are Educational, Health and Care plans. ECH s are a person centre approach, focusing on outcome rather than the provision for the child at that time. An EHC allows the child, parents/careers and practitioners to have support post early education and have support through adulthood. It included a multi agency approach to ensure that all educational needs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay On American Beauty American Beauty is an iconic, memorable and enduring watch, directed flawlessly by Sam Mendes. The film explores and somewhat criticizes and attacks the cherished societal beliefs and institutions of the American Dream , depicting the obsessive nature of materialism and illustrating the distortion of appearance versus reality. Many critics have scrutinized and developed further these ideas, of which I have analysed two critical reviews from Brittany Deschler (1999) and David Heuser. The critical analysis of American Beauty from Brittany Deschler explores the empty promises of materialism and Carolyn s obsession with her image and possessions as well as probing the theme of appearance versus reality and how each character confronts this at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carolyn has closed herself away from her family and fails to see any true beauty in life through her materialistic values and appearance of success that is anything but, in stark contrast to Lester who longs for a true connection with his family and discovers genuine beauty towards the end of the film. The two reviews have shaped this understanding for me and particularly Heuser s interpretation of the main characters have demonstrated the importance of looking closer , past the false facades of others as nothing appears as it is first seen as first impressions often prove to be false. This ideal of the American Dream status is mainly broken down by Lester as he truly reveals himself because an individual s facade can be deceiving to who they really are. The American Dream stereotype is centered around the importance of showing off success through accumulation of material items as the primary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scenes of artfully prepared meals are enough to make mouths water, and it s almost possible to smell the pungent aroma of cigars. In these elements of the film, Scorsese was ably assisted by contributions from composer Elmer Bernstein and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus. The set design and costumes are flawless, and the audience is legitimately transported to the nineteenth century (through the help of Troy, NY, where the principal filming was done, and the Philadelphia Academy of Music, which doubled as a New York opera house). This is not some mere token attempt to conjure up images of times past; Scorsese has put so much effort into the illusion that those who didn t know better would be willing to swear that he had discovered a time capsule. Adapting from the 1921 Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Edith Wharton (who also wrote Ethan Frome, a similar story of love and loss, which reached American screens earlier this year), Scorsese and Jay Cocks have successfully incorporated the conflict of emotion against societal pressures which lies at the heart of The Age of Innocence. Those watching the movie will understand that it is no easy task to resurrect a code of behavior long dead and buried. Daniel Day Lewis never fails to impress, even when he appears in a poor film. Australia s Involvement For The Australian War During the Second World War over a seven month period between July 1942 and January 1943, the events of the Kokoda Trail Campaign and the Battle of the Beachheads took place on what was once the Australian territories of Papua and New Guinea. Good morning, I am Lee Varnes, and I am representing the Australian War Memorial to inform you of the significance of Australia s involvement in the Papua Campaign. I will be discussing the reasons behind Japan s invasion of Papua, the course of the campaign, the outcome of the campaign and the significance it had on the Australian people and the soldiers involved. Port Moresby was an extremely important tactical position for both allied forces and the Japanese; as it would allow Japan to fulfil Operation FS and allow allied forces to attack north over the Kokoda trail towards the Japanese base at Rabaul (Austrialian Goverment: Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). Through the completion of Operation FS, the Japanese would be able to throttle Australia into submission by cutting off communication and supply lines with the US , they planned to do so through the gradual extension of Japanese control over the islands in the South East Pacific around continental Australia (Pacific War Historical Society, n.d.). Japanese Prime Minister, Tojo Hideki, was opposed to the direct amphibious invasion of Australia, though with Port Moresby under Japanese control it would allow them to terrorise Australia s eastern coast as Japanese medium ... All Children follow very similar pattern of growth and development. For e.g. Physical development begins with baby holding its head followed by turning over, crawling, sitting and eventually walking by the age of 12 18months. Most children follow these steps of physical development, some start walking before their first birthday while some may start walking independently when they are 18months old or even later. • 15. Ideas of Rulers in Tao-te Ching and The Prince Essay When comparing Tao te Ching to The Prince there are numerous differences. The authors of these two documents had almost completely opposite ideas of how a ruler should behave and how a government should be run. One believed that the ruler could accomplish the most by doing the least; the other believed that by controlling how the public perceived a ruler was what would make him a success or a failure. Machiavelli believed that to rule the prince must do things that would win approval with his people, and that the prince must always keep and maintain arms to remain in power. While these two ideas might seem to have little relevance to one another it is just an example of how Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s ideas about how important the rulers public persona was to their ability to rule successfully. Finally one major difference is that Machiavelli believes that the ruler should always keep arms and be ready to fight off a threat. Lao tzu has the idea that the only need to keep arms is for a last resort when all other options have been exhausted. This is an enormous difference; The Prince gives the idea that by not maintaining a military and a willingness to fight the ruler may be over thrown by either another country or by his own people. Lao tzu gives the idea that if you rule properly you will not need the weapon except in the most extreme circumstances. He also gives the idea that if a ruler tries to rule by force another force opposing the ruler will come to him. Both of these authors have good ideas on how to rule properly and have the greatest influence on their people. Physiological changes happen in our brain due to different interactions with our environment (Campbell). Originally, scientists thought that brain development stopped during our first few years, or our critical period (Campbell). However, this would mean that our brains were only plastic during these early years (Campbell). Because of this belief, doctors and scientists also believed that once there was significant damage done to a certain area of the brain during adulthood, the nerve cells would no longer be able to form new connections and regenerate themselves; as a result of this, the functions that controlled that specific area of the brain would be lost ... Our senses are linked to memory and cognition. Damage leading to the disruption of sensory input from one sense can lead to the improvement of the remaining senses. Another point of interest was ascertaining if deafness affects how the brain processes both vision and touch together (Karns). Their participants included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This creates a system of lies and corruption, with members of the Senate not looking out for the national good. Secondly, the subject at hand can also have a big influence. In this case the subject is English because it is a requirement class. Therefore if the student enjoys english they will do very well and achieve good things because they enjoy learning about the subject. But if the student does not enjoy english they will not care to do their best on their work and will do the minimum to just pass the class. Lastly, the atmosphere they are in is also another thing that can influence the student. If they are in an atmosphere where the whole class acts up and does not do their work they will follow in those footsteps. However if they are surrounded by a mixture of people who do their work or do not do their work they will choose to do what they think is best. • 23. Metabolic Alkalosis Lab Report Metabolic alkalosis is a primary increase in serum bicarbonate (HCO3 ) concentration. This occurs as a consequence of a loss of H+ from the body or a gain in HCO3 . In its pure form, it manifests as alkalemia (pH 7.40). As a compensatory mechanism, metabolic alkalosis leads to alveolar hypoventilation with a rise in arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2), which diminishes the change in pH that would otherwise occur. Normally, arterial PaCO2 increases by 0.5 0.7 mm Hg for every 1 mEq/L increase in plasma bicarbonate concentration, a compensatory response that is very quick. If the change in PaCO2 is not within this range, then a mixed acid base disturbance occurs. For example, if the increase in PaCO2 is more than 0.7 times the increase in bicarbonate, then metabolic alkalosis coexists with primary respiratory acidosis. Likewise, if the increase in PaCO2 is less than the expected change, then a primary respiratory alkalosis is also present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether a person leaves a society does not change anything to the fact that this society will still contain suicides. Sociology s task thus consists of discovering the qualities and characteristics of such social facts, which can be discovered through a quantitative or experimental approach (Durkheim extensively relied on statistics). One can thus argue that Durkheim defended a form of sociological positivism.[7] Method and objectivity In his Rules of the Sociological Method (1895), Durkheim expressed his will to establish a method which would guarantee sociology s truly scientific character. One of the questions raised by the author concerns the objectivity of the sociologist: how may one study an object which, from the very beginning, conditions and relates to the observer? According to Durkheim, observation must be as impartial and impersonal as possible, even though a perfectly objective observation in this sense may never be attained. Sociology should therefore privilege comparison rather than the study of singular independent facts. • 31. The Problem Of Aging Population An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in other countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The population of citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1 million in 2012, to 83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time (Ortman, Velkoff, Hogan, others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in the percentage of older people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly insignificant is going to pose a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help older individuals. These burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily impact a healthcare climate that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate preparation to be made in form of public policies that plan for the future. The three most important public policy issues facing the United States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring long term services and supports, and health coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal policy directed towards ensuring increased care for older citizens. It created the Administration on Aging (AoA), National Eldercare Locator Service, National Family Caregiver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While you re not responsible for every little detail of why people perceive information the way that they do, you do need to take it into account.
