Performance Management Reflects Organizational Goals
Introduction
Performance management is a process, which supports employee engagement and where an employee
s work reflects organisational goals. It is about achieving results through individuals and teams to
improve the performance of the organisation (Armstrong, 2009). The outcome of performance
management is visible through financial performance, productivity, quality of the product and service,
customer satisfaction, employee engagement and talent retention. Performance management offers
competitive advantage and brings positive benefits including increased profits, higher cash flow, and
stronger stock value. Productivity is lower if performance management is not present (Maley, 2012).
To measure effectiveness of performance management it is important to define the goals of the
organization as well as indicators of success. The measures method should provide balanced
information based of financial and non financial performance (Dti.gov.uk, accessed on 01/03/2014).
There are several methods used to measure performance management. Armstrong, 2009 lists good
ways to measure performance management effectiveness to be KPI s, business results, engagement
level or customer satisfaction. Another way to assess performance management is to use score card,
which can also help to align individual performance with strategy.
MSG Managementstudyguide.com, accessed on 01/03/14 provides further ways to assess performance
management effectiveness from improved performance, higher

Essay Explain the Platonic Concept of Forms
Explain the Platonic concept of Forms.
Plato believed that reality is more than what we sense around the world (e.g. taste, smell, hear, see and
touch), he believed that behind these physical realities lies a perfect version of them in which he called
Forms and that the greatest thing we can learn is to have knowledge and understanding of them. Plato
s theory means that what we can sense around us (for example a chair) is just a mere shadow of the
perfect version which exists in the world of Forms. The perfect version of a chair is one in which for
fills its purpose e.g. to be comfortable and to be sat on. Plato believed that everything had a perfect
Form, from objects such as pens and books to things such as beauty and justice. He ... Show more

This can be traced backwards to every single item that is in the real world creating an infinite
regression, and therefore we have to ask ourselves, how big is the world of Forms?
Another reason why is it true to say that Forms teach us nothing about the real world is the queries of
the Form of evil. If the Forms are perfect versions and what we have in the world of our senses are
just mere shadows, how much worse can the evil get? And do we therefore really want to thrive to
become the perfect philosopher if it means experiencing that? For example, if Hitler caused so much
pain and suffering to so many people during the Holocaust, do we really want to go through that but of
a worse/bigger scale in the world of Forms? And also in what form are is the evil in? In the form of
famine and disease, murder and genesis or something much worse.
Aristotle, another famous philosopher, argued against Plato s well known theory of Forms and stated
that what we seen and experience is material whilst universals are only abstract projections of this.
This completely contradicts Plato s theory and so do many other philosophers such as Thomas
Aquinas. However, whilst it is possible that one of these theories are right there is no evidence to
support it which is another one of the theories floors.
Another common criticism of Plato s theory is that although the Form of good has had an influence of
Christian teachings and theology, it is extremely difficult to see how

Digging Seamus Heaney Analysis
The poem Digging, is an explorative revelation into the identity of the poet, Seamus Heaney. The
poem reflects upon the author s journey to veer from but ultimately honor his rich family traditions.
The author s family, one of dedicated potato and turf diggers, pass on the ideals of commitment and
diligence through their work from generation to generation. Seamus Heaney, the first man in the past
three generations has chosen not to dig in such a way. Rather, Heaney trades the family spade in for an
ink pen. Through the symbolism of the poet s pen to record the memories of his father and
grandfather, Heaney proves that one s identity is not defined by heritage, but rather by interests and
strengths. The author first introduces his pen as symbolic of discovering his personal identity despite
the expectations of heritage when he says, Between my finger and my thumb/ The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 1). This line is suggestive that the author did not chose his as a writer identity
for himself, rather it was destined for him. Heaney describes the pen as resting between his finger and
thumb rather than his hand holding the pen. This word choice gives a sense of greater power to the
pen rather than his hand. The pen in this case is symbolic of the notion that the author s passion and
strength in writing was destined for him in such a way that heritage and tradition could not sway the
course of his life. The author further solidifies that it is his destiny to embrace his identity as a writer
when he mentions, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 1). The image of the gun being snug
resting in the author s hand is suggestive that the pen belongs in his hand, and fits well. The
symbolism of the pen being snug in the poet s hand is evocative of the author being content with his
decision to be a poet. The reader is comfortable with the idea of the pen being snug in the poet s hand
but the author immediately instills unease in the reader s mind when he says, snug as a gun, (Heaney
1). The poet utilizes this simile to contribute to the symbolism of the pen as the author s quest to verify
his identity. A gun is powerful, permanent, and commands attention. The author uses this simile to
justify

Analysis Of Never Let Me Go
The Asian book Never Let Me Go written by Kazuo Ishiguro takes place in England in the 1990s. The
author shows relations to this book by naming it Never Let Me Go. I say this because in the book there
is a character who sings a song that is named Never Let Me Go. The main theme in this novel is find
out who your true friends are and realize not every friendship is going to be perfect, you will go
through struggles just like any other type of relationship. Never Let Me Go happens in a tragic form
generally 1990s England, where the lives of customary nationals are drawn out through a state
endorsed program of human cloning. The clones, alluded to as understudies, experience childhood in
uncommon organizations far from the outside world. As youthful grown ups, they start to give their
key organs. All givers get their mind from assigned carers, clones who have not yet started the gift
procedure. The clones keep on donating organs until they finish, which is a code word for death after
the gift of three or four organs. Be that as it may, this preface is not quickly clear to the peruser.
Toward the begin of the novel, storyteller Kathy H. only presents herself as a thirty one year old carer.
She has been a carer for almost twelve years, however will abandon her part in a couple of months.
Kathy discloses that she needs to return to her recollections of Tommy and Ruth, two companions who
grew up with her at the Hailsham school. Kathy does not clarify the gift program,

Enter The Wu-Tang Clan
Wu Tang clan is a legendary New York based hip hop group which rose to fame in the early 90s.
Formed in Staten Island, it consists of ten members, RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface
Killah, Inspectah Deck, U God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna and Ol Dirty Bastard (deceased). In this
paper, I will write about one of their most famous song, C.R.E.A.M. (which is the acronym for Cash
Rules Everything Around Me) from their debut album Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers) . The word
cream ever since then becomes a slang for money due to the popularity of this song. It was produced
by RZA, featuring hooks by Method Man and verses from Raekwon and Inspectah Deck.

why: he used to dream big, with plans to make cream (cream refers to money here) but went to jail at
the age of fifteen shattered his dream due to his drug dealing. Getting arrested and facing jail time due
to dealing crack was very common at that time, According to The New York Times article After 3
Years, Crack Plague In New York Only Gets Worse , from January to October of 1988, 31,223 arrests
were made related to crack. Hence at that time, the situation faced by Inspectah Deck is very common
in New York. Then Inspectah Deck continued that the court ordered him to serve a sentence longer
than he deserved in a New York upstate prison with other convicted criminals. (from the court played

Handwriting v Typing
The process of reading and writing involves a number of senses, she explains. When writing by hand,
our brain receives feedback from our motor actions, together with the sensation of touching a pencil
and paper. These kinds of feedback is significantly different from those we receive when touching and
typing on a keyboard.
Learning by doing
Together with neurophysiologist Jean Luc Velay at the University of Marseille, Anne Mangen has
written an article published in the Advances in Haptics periodical. They have examined research
which goes a long way in confirming the significance of these differences.
An experiment carried out by Velay s research team in Marseille establishes that different parts of the
brain are activated when we read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lack of focus
There is a lot of research on haptics in relation to computer games, in which for instance vibrating
hand controls are employed. According to Mangen, virtual drills with sound and vibration are used for
training dentists.
But there has been very little effort to include haptics within the humanistic disciplines, she explains.
In educational science, there is scant interest in the ergonomics of reading and writing, and its
potential significance in the learning process.
Mangen refers to an experiment involving two groups of adults, in which the participants were
assigned the task of having to learn to write in an unknown alphabet, consisting of approximately
twenty letters. One group was taught to write by hand, while the other was using a keyboard. Three
and six weeks into the experiment, the participants recollection of these letters, as well as their
rapidity in distinguishing right and reversed letters, were tested. Those who had learned the letters by
handwriting came out best in all tests. Furthermore, fMRI brain scans indicated an activation of the
Broca s area within this group. Among those who had learned by typing on keyboards, there was little
or no activation of this area.
The sensorimotor component forms an integral part of training for beginners, and in special education
for people with learning difficulties. But there is little awareness and understanding of the importance
of handwriting to the learning

Nick Carraway Corrupts In The Great Gatsby
Name, etc. . . ? Nick Carraway Hates Phonies F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, is a story filled
with love and loss. Love of people, love of things, loss of dreams, loss of innocence, loss of love...
The Great Gatsby can be seen as a romance novel, or a tragedy, or possibly even a coming of age story
for the narrator, Nick Carraway. His position as narrator of this novel shows how Fitzgerald wanted to
keep the mythical and almost surreal nature of Mr. Gatsby. Gatsby has money, a high social ranking,
extravagant parties, and a girl to dream about endlessly, whereas Nick exists almost in the shadows of
Gatsby with no dream at all. Nick watches as Gatsby s life changes and falls apart around him, and
Nick s opinion of him varies and fluctuates at times, but he was also the closest friend Gatsby had ever
had. Nick illustrates loyalty, divergence, and a lack of ambition throughout his telling of the story, but
he is in no way a static character. He is also human, and is flawed, and has kept his morals throughout
life, making him the only character in the story who can really change at all. When Nick moved to
West Egg, he probably did not expect to learn so much in the ... Show more content on

him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life.... [Gatsby had] an extraordinary gift for hope,
a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall
ever find again (Fitzgerald, 2). However, he eventually learns that optimism is a noble but ineffective
trait when he notices how Gatsby s hope is his fatal flaw. Gatsby takes the blame for Myrtle Wilson s
death to protect Daisy, even though he knows he s already lost her, and that is why he is killed in the
end by Mr.

Personal Leadership Reflection
With a million ideas racing continuously over and over in my head, once again like many times
before, my struggle would present itself of not being able to write those ideas down on paper. Years of
nursing experience, and more recently managing the nursing informatics department, carrying out
ideas that would advance the flow of information and improve processes came so easy for me; yet it
was so difficult to present this in writing to the leadership group in our facility. To confidently
complete a walk through in each department in our hospital with the leadership, verbalizing the
changes that would take place was second nature for me. This walk through demonstrated how the
changes would improve not only the flow of information but also bridge each department to function
in unity. Understanding what needed to take place and following through bringing about positive
changes I was comfortable in performing, however, expressing this in written format was something I
needed to development considering my position as manager of my department. To receive approval on
any request for change, we were required to write our proposal as a professional improvement (PI)
project. The proposal would include, the reason for the change, objectives, stakeholders involved, and
set a timeline with target end date. The day would come when I would begin my literacy development
journey. Writing a professional improvement proposal is one of the most important moments in my
literacy development

Seepage Control in Earthen Dams
Most dams in active use today exhibit seepage of one form or another. The location, rate of flow, and
turbidity (clear or murky) are the critical factors when evaluating the seriousness of seepage from a
dam. Seepage is the continuous movement of water from the upstream face of the dam toward its
downstream face, and is a major minor problem when it comes to the life span of dams and
embankments. It is a major minor problem because if controlled the affects are minor and not
hazardous, but if not controlled it can become a major problem and possibly result in failures.
Conditions of Seepage Most dams have some seepage through or around the embankment as a result
of water moving through the soil structure. If the seepage forces are ... Show more content on

Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories based
on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a relatively
long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed. The two
categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape exit and
cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns that lead to
saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces.
Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage and
prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year. Frequency should
be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be checked more
common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all dams should be
visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm event, during or after
severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is complete and reservoir
filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been filled. Dam inspections
performed on a regular basis are the most economical aid a dam owner can use to assure the safety and
long life of the structure while reducing liability risks. If seepage is detected on a

Leap Year Essay
For this paper I watched the romantic comedy called Leap Year. In this movie Anna (Amy Adams)
travels all the way to Ireland in hopes of proposing to her boyfriend Jeremy on leap day. Anna s travel
plans make an unexpected turn when a bad storm hits Ireland, forcing her plane to land. In a desperate
attempt to make it to Dublin on time she gets on a boat which is forced to dock in a town called
Dingle. She walks into the town s inn where she meets Declan (Matthew Goode) and rents a room.
Right away viewers get the sense that these two charters don t like each other. The scene from this
movie that best shows the element above is the car scene. Anna finally convinces Declan to drive her

when Chris is younger and with his mother, Mary, at the same beach. Then the scene changes to an
airplane from when it s flying to when it lands. Mary is on this plane and she is on her way home from
being at the mental institution. I think they use the fact that his mother just wants to be in her son s life
in order to create problems for him with kids at school, because everyone know about his mom s
disorder. This helps further the plot for this film. They also use a very light technique to advance the
plot. The producers use the time after Chris mother is taken to the mental hospital and Chris is lying in

The Consumer Culture Final Project
Consumer Culture Final Project
This semester having to track all of my buying has been very helpful and eye opening. I was able to
break down all of my buying into 8 categories; clothes, food (groceries), food (restaurants),
entertainment, gas, gym, miscellaneous, and school. I was able to conclude that most of my purchases
were paid with a debit card with the exception of my school payments. Most of my purchases were in
store with the exception of a few purchases online. The majority of my purchases were wants and not
necessities, and after doing this project throughout the semester I have a lot of unnecessary buying.
This paper is a reflection of all of my buying.
This graph is a visual of the overall amount spent through the semester. Looking at the entire semester
I spent a total of $5,668. I spent $308 on clothes in store and online, $459 on food in the grocery store,
$562 on food in multiple restaurants and fast food, $1,049 on entertainment like my vacation and
movies, $340 on gas, $177 on the gym, $123 on miscellaneous items from CVS or 7 eleven, and
$2,650 on school tuition. The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this
much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on
unnecessary things. For example, I spent $562 on food from restaurants. This is so highly unnecessary
because I also spent $459 on groceries. The category where I spent the most money was school
tuition, which is expected.

Similarities Between The Tang And Song Dynasty
The historical importance of the term movable type is that it is a printer that can arrange blocks of
individual characters in a frame to make up a page for printing. This was one of the advancements in
the Tang and Song Dynasty. Advancement is gunpowder. Gunpowder leads to the creation of
weapons. The Tang s agriculture also helps them succeed because the new fast ripening rice from
Vietnam can feed the whole population. Also, they promoted trade by guarding the Silk Roads,
relining on ocean trade. Buddhism spread and the Chinese were exposed to Christianity. Also, the
Tang period produced great poets like Li Bo and Tu. During the Song Dynasty, artists were influenced
by Daoism and emphasized the beauty of natural landscapes, used black ink.

They kept the Chinese from high government offices. In addition to that, they restored the Grand

The historical significance of the phrase Marco Polo is that he was a European that traveled to China
so he can visit various Chinese cities on government missions for Kublai Khan. During a war, he was
captured and imprisoned.
The historical significance of the phrase Shinto is that it is a type of religion that was based on respect
for the forces of nature and on the worship of ancestors. Also, worshippers believed in kami which are
divine spirits that lived in nature. Shinto religion was also influenced by the Koreans because they
introduced Buddhism to them. Some Buddhist rituals became Shinto rituals. This made the Japanese

It is not likely for it to cause the Guillain Barre syndrome. The influenza vaccination may not be 100%
effective for some people, but that does not mean it is not 100% effective for others. It affects people
differently because no one has the same strains. It is much smarter for people to get the shot rather
than taking a risk of getting the fatally dangerous virus. It should most definitely be required for all
healthcare workers, in any region, to get the flu vaccination or jab. Anyone who wants to be a real
doctor or nurse should not want to jeopardize their patients or even their own family by putting them
on the line of any virus. It should be considered selfish because it is their job to keep their patients
healthy and happy. The should protect them from any bacterial diseases or viruses. This will probably
always be argued in hospital arguments whether flu shots should be mandatory for the workers. One
thing for sure is that healthcare workers should always put their patients

4.Gargoyles spin offs
Even after the Gargoyles TV show was canceled, Greg Weisman planned a series of possible spin offs
for Gargoyles with the help of other creators. A prequel series called Gargoyles: The Dark Ages was to
take place at Wyvern Castle in medieval times before the events of the show. On the other hand,
Gargoyles 2198 was intended as a sequel set in the late 22nd century when the alien race called the
Space Spawn first mentioned in the episode Sentinel by the alien guardian Nokkar attacks Earth.
Several of the spin offs were based on interesting supporting characters introduced in the TV show.
One of them would have been focused on The New Olympians a group of mystical beings loosely
inspired by the Greek mythology. The other idea was to follow the adventures of Rory Dugan (voiced
in the show by Scott Cleverdon), a modern day incarnation of the ancient Irish hero Cu Chullain.

Theme Of Nutting By William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth s 1798 poem Nutting was not incorporated into his later great poem, The
Prelude, but as a singular piece it reflects The Prelude s recurring themes of reflection and memory.
Considered to be the Romantic Era s great poet of memory, Wordsworth aimed to publish an
autobiographical work of poetry which would detail events which he felt had contributed to the
growth of his mind as a poet. Nutting, written at the same time as several other childhood recollections
which would later appear in The Prelude, details an event from his past which contributed to his
present. The past held an attraction for Wordsworth, as he believed that the child is the father of the

It exists in the temporal space between the destructive young Wordsworth and the present
Wordsworth, as this self experiences a sense of pain when I beheld/ The silent trees, and saw the

regret is what defines a self which reaffirms Wordsworth s earlier love of nature. The destructive self
is a felix culpa a phrase referring to the so called fortunate fault of Adam and Eve, which brought
about redemption as Wordsworth is able to reaffirm his love and respect for nature after regretting its
destruction. The rash actions of his previous self father a new self, one more certain of itself.
Wordsworth finds this self so crucial and valuable to his current self that he cannot distance his
present feelings from those of his past. The new self gains the ability to sense the spirit of the place,

Comparing Cabaret And Hedda Gabler
These two plays may seem as if they have differences for example one is a musical which is Cabaret,
but they have similarities and many ways also. These two plays set into the lives of individuals who
are not satisfied with their lives, even though society may assume so. Since everyone is in their own
lives trying to make it the best as they can, they all do not realize how unsatisfied one of the characters
may be with their lives. Throughout this paper we will be able to see the similarities of these plays.
These two plays were chosen to be compared due to the position the characters were placed in, due to
their times and where they were living at in those times. Hedda Gabler is based on a life of a woman

Reflection On Millard High School Senior Class President
Throughout high school I was involved in many different clubs. When senior year came around I was
elected to represent Millard High School as their senior class president. The student body president
and I got together and decided that we needed to end our high school career with a bang, so we came
up with the idea to light up the hillside M in order for Millard to show their spirit throughout the
valley not only during the day but also at night! We decided that the students could light it up every
homecoming and keep it lit through the school year. I like to think of this as my own little piece of
history making. This was our goal and we were willing to work as hard as we could to make it happen.
This project was in no way easy; the lights

Why Is Lizzie Andrew Borden Guilty
Lizzie Andrew Borden was found not guilty for the murder and mutilation of her step
mother and father. The famous poem reads Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother forty
whacks, when she saw what she had done she gave her father forty one. (Rhyme) It occurred
during the 19th century when women were well known as the weaker or sly sex and at this
time it was also unheard of to put a woman on trial for this kind of crime. Although there were
no other suspects to the murder, there was no physical evidence that connected Lizzie or any
other person to the killing of her step mother and father. Lizzie Borden should have been found

After the trial began, the prosecution presented the head of an ax that was presumed to
be the murder weapon, but there was a tremendous lack of forensic evidence. Lizzie s father,
Andrew, was asleep on the couch at the time of his murder and although his gruesome murder
shocked the community, many people wanted him dead. His net worth was worth over 10
million dollars in today s money and he was also known as the wealthiest and most unpopular
man in the town. He made many enemies on his way to the top as a banker.
No one was ever convicted but circumstantial evidence connected Lizzie to the crime.
Lizzie Borden was the only suspect to this crime, and also the only other person in
the home at the time of the murders. The household guest John Morse was out visiting some

Essay On Broroca s Area Of The Brain
One important area of the brain that some would say is very important, would be Broca s area. Broca s
area is a functionally defined structure in the elft frontal lobe of most humans. It is involved mainly in
producing speech, writing, and also in language processing and comprehension. This part of the brain
would be stimulated when a certain group of friends ask you to come over for pizza and thoughout the
night when the individuals are communicating. Without this portion of the brain functioning as it
should, one would not be able to communicate with others, the indivudal would understand everything
being said to them. However, when the indivual would go to speek, it would sound as if the indivual
was saying random words, making converstaion a excessivly harder. Another region of the brain that

On September 23rd 2014, China found the prominent Uyghur scholar Ilham Tohti guilty of separatism
and sentenced him to life in prison. This ruling came as a shock to the international community, for he
has been the foremost advocate of peacefully resolving Uyghur ethnic unrest in China. Ilham Tohti is
an ethnically Uyghur economist, professor, writer, and public intellectual who has been spearheading
the vanguard of cultivating mutual understanding and respect amongst Han and Uyghur Chinese. He
has been steadfast on working within the system to finding a solution that will be mutually beneficial
for the Communist Party and the Uyghur ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, home to many of China s
ethnic Turkic Muslims. Even in the face of adversity, he has been outspoken and quick to criticize the
missteps of the Communist Party s governance and policies towards Xinjiang province and its Muslim
minorities. Due to that, the CCP views him as a threat, rather than a solution, to the extreme affairs of
episodic ethnic and political unrest in Xinjiang. With the growing resentment from the Uyghur
populous towards government s policies, the tensions in the Xinjiang region between Muslim Uyghur
minorities and Han Chinese have escalated to waves of terrorist attacks around China, with the recent
stabbing in Kunming, being dubbed as China s 9/11 . In response, the CCP has imposed a more

##bolisms Of Symbols In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
Bradbury employs several symbols in Fahrenheit 451 to develop a heavier plan. one in every of these
symbols includes the quantity on the helmet that Montag wears. within the initial chapter of
Fahrenheit 451, the storyteller says, with his symbolic helmet numbered 451 on his unemotional head
(Bradbury 1). 451 isn t AN absolute variety that Bradbury indiscriminately chose; all the firemen wear
this variety on their helmets as a result of it symbolizes the work they are doing. 451 is that the
temperature, in Fahrenheit, at that paper burns that area unit vital for the firemen WHO burns books.
Another example of symbolism would be the The Sieve and therefore the Sand the title of the second
section in Fahrenheit 451. The title refers to Montag s childhood, once he wont to attempt to fill a
sieve with sand. Once as a toddler he had Saturday upon a yellow sand dune by the ocean within the
middle of the blue and hot summer day, attempting to fill a sieve with sand, as a result of some cruel
full cousin had said... (Bradbury 74). The sand represents the data that he seeks, and therefore the
sieve represents his mind attempting to understand and retain this information (quizlet.com). Also,
Bradbury apply symbolism within the title of the primary section of the novel, The fireside and
therefore the Salamander. each fireside and Salamander area unit related to the hearth, But he knew
his mouth had solely emotional to mention salutation, then once she appeared hypnotised by the
Salamander on his arm and therefore the Phoenix disc on his chest... (Bradbury 4). Hearths
(fireplaces) area unit historically the middle of the house and therefore the supply of heat. The
hearthmen wear salamander mental imagery on their uniforms and decision their motortruck a
salamander as a result of salamanders were once believed to measure in fire while not being consumed
by it.
Along with Bradbury s clever illustration of symbols, he conjointly incorporates irony to satirically
illustrate a devastating yankee society, that he warns might become reality. this is often as a result of
during this society books area unit illegitimate. additionally, author employs verbal irony to point out

Peyton Approved Summary
Recently an operating budget was created for Peyton Approved, a pet supplies manufacturer. The
company s operating budget is a projected forecast for the quarter July through September 2015. The
budget includes specific calculations of the sales, production, manufacturing (raw materials, direct
labor, and factory overhead), selling, and general and administrative operations. After actual activity
was recorded and compared to the operating budget for Peyton Approved, variances were found that
caused unfavorable results in the company s total direct labor and total direct materials accounts.
These variances need to be analyzed and investigated so corrective actions can be taken.

This occurrence could have been caused by the company hiring workers with less skill resulting in a
decrease in total wages paid out. This is also a controllable variance (Accounting Tools, n.d.) so
managers will have the opportunity to adjust the cost of labor as they see fit. Also, the budgeted cost
of labor may have been set too high in the first place causing the total cost to be overstated
(Accounting Simplified, n.d.). It s also important to look into whether or not actual figures are being
reported as oppose to purposely recording favorable values (Nobles, Mattison, Matsumura, Horngren,
2014). The variance in the labor efficiency may be a direct reflection of the use of less skilled workers.
The employees used more time (hours) than expected and the result yielded an unfavorable outcome.
If the workers are not experienced enough to complete a task efficiently more hours will be used to
compensate production demands. Other causes could be attributed to the condition of the equipment
and/or poor supervision (Accounting for Management, n.d.). Faulty equipment could play a role in
slowing down production and supervisors must step in immediately to remedy any issues that may
cause a noticeable change in budgeted expectations. In the future, Peyton Approved should consider
hiring employees that match the skill level required to perform as expected. They should also do an
evaluation to determine the conditions of their equipment (Garcia, n.d.) and advise production
managers on the proper procedures to motivate their workers to achieve company goals. Upon
examination of the material variance, it s noted that there were no direct material cost variances. The
explanation is simple; Peyton Approved was spot on when they priced their parts. There was no gain
nor loss connected to direct materials. Unfortunately, the materials were not used efficiently so the

While this was a generally accepted pricing practice within the office to control revenue, the
Executive Committee considered this as avoiding responsibility for poorly controlled projects and
being unethical to some clients. Thus, they are currently facing a dilemma regarding how they should
regulate the individual offices business practices without impacting the entrepreneurial spirit and local
autonomy of the company negatively.
The inconsistency in business practices stemmed from conflicting objectives between the parent
company and the acquired office. While the San Jose office is revenue driven, the Executive
Committee s objective is to maintain long term client relationships.

As the Detroit office is the youngest office, it did not have sufficient time to develop its client breadth,

Libertarian Feminism Essay
The word feminist has caused turmoil wherever it is uttered. It has gained a negative connotation, and
is often mistaken with misandry. While these claims may be true for a minimal number of feminists,
the truth is that in order to get an accurate representation on what feminists actually believe one would
have to go to the source. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is not rigidly
structured or led by a single figure or group , and most importantly there is not just one kind of
feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). The most under represented
group within feminism is the kind that is in the government. Not all have the same theories, and

Libertarian feminists claim that the root of female oppression lies in women s ability to bear children
(Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71 93). Liberal feminists on the other hand focus on personal and political
autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among all these
different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender
equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media
tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the stereotype that
feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing
could be further from the truth since the actual definition of feminism is, The advocacy of women s
rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. (Oxford Dictionary, 2014).
Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes
in equality. The problem that arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and
ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore misconceptions. The solution to
this problem is simple; we must acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different
women to reach equality. The famous televangelist, Pat Robertson had this to say about feminism in
his letter to an equal rights amendment to the

The Persian Empire By Cyrus The Great
In 6th century BCE the Persian Empire was the main empire dominating most of the Mediterranean
Sea. It ran from part of modern Afghanistan and Pakistan in to modern day Turkey and portions of
Northern Greece. The Persian Empire was a strict state with powerful kings ruling over the massive
empire. The empire ruled over a vast ethnic group and proved to have success in diversity, especially
with Jews, whose history have been well documented with the Persian Empire.
The beginning of the Persian Empire is accredited to the wise guidance of a man known as Cyrus the
Great. Cyrus was a bright and influential Persian king whose approach for expanding the Persian
Empire was to conquer nearing lands with the goal of uniting them into one vast empire. With his
dexterous guidance and a solid military, Cyrus succeeded in fashioning a massive empire that lasted
for more than two hundred years. The strong roots and influences brought to the Persian Empire by
Cyrus gave the emperors after him much power, like Darius I, who continued to enlarge the Empire.
In the year 550 Cyrus the Great took power over the land of Media. As he began to create a strong
government he elected both Median and Persian nobles as civilian officials. After conquering Media s
people states throughout Anatolia soon fell under his reign. He then even conquered lands in the area
known as the Fertile Crescent. After this the Persian Empire was enormous. Cyrus implemented a rule

The operation of electricity system is strongly influenced by the accuracy of demand forecast as
economy and control of electric power system is quite sensitive to forecasting errors [44 45]. The four
important factors affecting load forecast are:
I. Weather conditions Electricity demand has a strong correlation to weather. To develop an efficient

in weather conditions resulting in usage of appliances likes air conditioner, space heater and water

greatly in the areas with large meteorological difference during summer and winter. Dry and wet
temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine and amount of precipitation
are common weather parameters that influence electricity demand. Among the weather variables listed
above, two composite weather variable functions, the cooling degree days and heating degree days are
broadly used by utility

Sophie s Contribution To The American Revolution
Sophie Germain was born April 1st of 1776, an era of revolution. The American Revolution began
around the year of her birth. Then thirteen years passed when the French Revolution began in her own
country. In many ways Sophie personified the spirit of revolution into which she was born. She was a
middle class female who went against the wishes of her family and the social prejudices of the time to
become a highly recognized mathematician. Like the member of a revolution, her life was full of
determination, up and downhill struggles. It took a long time for her to be recognized and appreciated

The Helicopter Flight Controls Of Fly By Wire System
ABSTRACT
Helicopter is known for being extremely challenging to fly. The helicopter flight controls enables the
pilot to attain a controlled flight. The flight controls differ drastically when compared to the fixed
wing aircraft. The advancement in flight controls namely fly by wire system has resulted in reducing
the complexity of the system. The state of the art fly by wire system has resulted in increasing the
performance and at the same time reduces the workload of a pilot. The four main controls include
collective pitch control, cyclic pitch control, throttle control and anti torque pedals. The employment
of fly by wire has thus paved way for reduction in weight whilst providing more space for comfort and
effortless handling. The commercial helicopter are beginning to utilize the fly by wire technology after
being tried and tested by fixed wing aircraft and military helicopter. The goal of this technical essay is
to provide an overview of the evolution helicopter flight controls from the earlier complex analog
phase to the present simplified digital phase.
Introduction
In the early 1920s, designing the rotors to attain an efficient flight was the utmost priority. The next
decade was followed by, perfection of control systems and its mechanism for a real world flight
capability. The flight control system is an element of the aircraft control loop which is essential for the
pilot. When evaluating the aspects of an ideal helicopter the first facet to be considered is

In the dance I tried to be very graceful and as perfect as possible by not making my movement choppy
to represent how there were no harsh lines or obvious imperfections in the paintings from The Hudson
River School. The Hudson River School paintings were like this because they saw America as
beautiful and perfect and at the time there were no harsh conflicts.

Christian Beliefs Of The Trinity
A cornerstone teaching of many Christian beliefs is that of the Trinity. It is also a debated and
misunderstood concept. Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the
Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may be
more familiar with, or might believe. God as the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult
concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and
omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help our
human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinity from other religions. Two common
religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals himself in three
different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view might see the Trinity as
three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and different but related gods with the
same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that of the Greeks with their many different
God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with a background in something like Hinduism,
might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might
see the Father as one God while the Son is a manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same
could be seen for the Holy Spirit. By explaining the Trinity, it is seen of these views are

Richard Linklater s Childhood
The memories of childhood development stick to the minds of many people for long periods whereas,
people can recall many moments from their childhood lives, but don t possess the cognitive ability to
link them together.in this sense, Boyhood is an American film depicting the growth of a young boy,
Mason Evans Jr from the age of 6 to 18 years. The film was written and directed by Richard Linklater,
who took approximately 12 years to complete the task of composing the film. Hence, its writing and
composition started in 2002 and ended in 2014, where Linklater aimed at explaining the transitional
stage from childhood to adulthood. The American modernization has been portrayed in the Boyhood
film where objects, events, themes, and institutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film took Linklater over 12 years to compose until it became useful in 2014when it was released.
Oakley compares Boyhood with the television series Seven Up (Almond 1964), which traces the lives
of a set of people who were interviewed first at age seven; and seven consecutive years after. Thus,
this illustrates the growth and maturation of each cast members over the 12 year period of producing
this film. In the different scenes of the film, the American modern ways of living have been explained
using the real life experience of Mason. The new modern ways of life include love for guitar, dates,
substance abuse, mobile phones, automobiles, video games, a passion for photography, family life and
school. The film discusses different trajectories of emotional and cognitive development that people
undergo thus determining their personalities. It explains the different experiences that one faces while
interacting with different people such as parents, friends, and siblings. According to Oatley, the way
modern people life is interesting as they can have unity and create a scheme of love and
belongingness. However, Mason is presented as a cheerful and temperamental child in the film. Each
stage of growth shaped is psychological views and experiences in a more meaningful yet, monolithic
way of dealing with challenges of everyday

Power Of Sneeze
Achoo!... Achoo!... Achoo! A sneeze has the power to disrupt a moment with a simple, Achoo! and
Bless you! It is the sound that turns heads and gives strangers an opportunity to interact with others.
The attention that a sneeze receives, leaves all the poor coughs and hiccups alone in the corner,
waiting for a blessing. Even with the parody version of Bless You, Cough you, sneezes continue to
hog the stage. However, had Pope Gregory I never encourage the saying, had it die off with the
outbreak of the bubonic plague, or better yet, had the superstition that sneezes left people s soul
vulnerable to the devil never existed, it would have not been so over popularized. This change in
history would of resulted in a decreased awareness

The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper Critical Analysis
The short story The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in an attempt to mirror
her life experiences and express her opinions on many issues of her time. She does so in a way that is
both intriguing and thought provoking to the reader. The main character of the story who stays
unnamed, likely because she is based off of herself, has deep psychological issues which the root of is
unknown and meant to be interpreted from the information in the story. Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses
her struggles and experiences in her own life to channel the main character and create the emotional
whirlwind of a story that she did.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born on July 3, 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut. ... Show more content on

In an article published in The Forerunner, Gilman explains what lead her to write The Yellow
Wallpaper. About her treatment methods she says, I went, in devout faith and some faint stir of hope,
to a noted specialist in nervous diseases, the best known in the country. This wise man put me to bed
and applied the rest cure, to which a still good physique responded so promptly that he concluded
there was nothing much the matter with me, and sent me home with solemn advice to live as domestic
a life as far as possible, to have but two hours intellectual life a day, and never to touch pen, brush, or
pencil again as long as I lived. This was in 1887. I went home and obeyed those directions for some
three months, and came so near the borderline of utter mental ruin that I could see over. In the short
story, the narrator must strictly follow the rules that her husband John sets for her which almost
identically mirror the rules that Gilman s specialist recommended for her. John does not allow her to
write and she must sneak writing in her journal when he is not around. Also, he requires her to have a
certain amount of rest each day and to be isolated for much of her day as well. During her constant
isolation in her room is when she began her perpetual obsession with the rooms yellow wallpaper. Her
loneliness caused her subconscious thoughts to take near complete control of herself which is why she
began hallucinating and seeing a woman in the wallpaper and throughout whatever world she saw
through her eyes. During Gilmans real life treatment, she said she almost went through complete utter
ruin, but it is clear that the story s main character surpassed even this level of insanity. It raises the
question, did the wallpaper make the narrator go insane or if she was already insane and saw
something in the wallpaper that wasn t there?

When It Comes To The Fourth Amendment And Searching A...
When it comes to the Fourth Amendment and searching a person s car or their person, there are a few
factors to take into consideration. In order for an officer to search an individual s car, they must have
consent, otherwise the search is unreasonable and whatever evidence seized could be inadmissible in
the court of law. However, it is possible to conduct a search without consent and seize evidence
without a warrant but there ought to be probable cause or reasonable suspicion. The two differ in the
sense that reasonable suspicion is based off past experiences and expertise. Probable cause is needed
for a search to take place; conversely if there is no probable cause but an officer has enough
reasonable suspicion, they still are allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, in Minnesota v. Dickerson (1993), if an officer can readily identify an object from
a pat down, they can use their discretion and experience and retrieve it if they know it to be true. If
they are unsure and take it, whatever was seized is inadmissible in court. In legal terms, this is known
as the plain feel doctrine. This allows a police officer to seize objects during a legitimate pat down
search if by plain feel he reasonably believes it to be contraband. Just because the plain feel doctrine
has been established does not granted officers the right to touch, it simply permits an officer to
interpret tactile sensations to identify an object during a pat down (Poulin, 1997 pg. 23).
There is a strong correlation between the Fourth Amendment and racial profiling. I asked a police
officer what they believed was the main reason for a lawsuit against an officer and they said violations
in regards to the Fourth Amendment followed by failure to act. Take the United States v. Brignoni
Ponce case for instance. A police officer pulled over a drive that looked to be Mexican because he
believed them to be an illegal immigrant. The problem was that officers were roving the border and
stopping individuals for no reason other than to see if they were illegal immigrants. The Fourth
Amendment held that a patrolman is prohibited to crowd the Mexican border just to stop and

Disadvantages Of Cost Reinbursement Contract
INTRODUCTION: In a cost reinbursement contract, the contractor was paid by the employer limited
to the source and a small amount in addition for the contractor to gain profit. Furthermore, cost
reimbursement contracts has massive divergent with a fixed price contract, that the contractor get is

choose. Firstly, is fixed price, secondly is time and materials, and lastly is cost reimbursement. Each
contract has its own specialty and risk to the employer. Different types of contract can be used to surge
the motivational level of the contractor and to surge the ultimate result of the project that are in

therefore, the administration conducts relatively massive supervision on this type of contract to make
sure that effective ways and efficient price management are used. There are two big reasons for the
disability to estimate the price precisely. Firstly, is the lack of understanding regarding the contract
demand. Then, is the not enough experience in work performing, such as the evolution of an armor
structure where production ability and detailing are sufficiently unstable to warrant contracting on a
fixed price basis. When these order occur, the use of a cost reimbursement contract may be suitable.
Conversely, when variability have been declined to a commandable phase, a fixed price contract
normally is used. Last but not least, there are three basic category of cost reimbursement contracts.
Firstly is the price addition fixed fee, price addition award fee, and price addition incentive

  • 2. Performance Management Reflects Organizational Goals Introduction Performance management is a process, which supports employee engagement and where an employee s work reflects organisational goals. It is about achieving results through individuals and teams to improve the performance of the organisation (Armstrong, 2009). The outcome of performance management is visible through financial performance, productivity, quality of the product and service, customer satisfaction, employee engagement and talent retention. Performance management offers competitive advantage and brings positive benefits including increased profits, higher cash flow, and stronger stock value. Productivity is lower if performance management is not present (Maley, 2012). To measure effectiveness of performance management it is important to define the goals of the organization as well as indicators of success. The measures method should provide balanced information based of financial and non financial performance (Dti.gov.uk, accessed on 01/03/2014). There are several methods used to measure performance management. Armstrong, 2009 lists good ways to measure performance management effectiveness to be KPI s, business results, engagement level or customer satisfaction. Another way to assess performance management is to use score card, which can also help to align individual performance with strategy. • 3. Essay Explain the Platonic Concept of Forms Explain the Platonic concept of Forms. Plato believed that reality is more than what we sense around the world (e.g. taste, smell, hear, see and touch), he believed that behind these physical realities lies a perfect version of them in which he called Forms and that the greatest thing we can learn is to have knowledge and understanding of them. Plato s theory means that what we can sense around us (for example a chair) is just a mere shadow of the perfect version which exists in the world of Forms. The perfect version of a chair is one in which for fills its purpose e.g. to be comfortable and to be sat on. Plato believed that everything had a perfect Form, from objects such as pens and books to things such as beauty and justice. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be traced backwards to every single item that is in the real world creating an infinite regression, and therefore we have to ask ourselves, how big is the world of Forms? Another reason why is it true to say that Forms teach us nothing about the real world is the queries of the Form of evil. If the Forms are perfect versions and what we have in the world of our senses are just mere shadows, how much worse can the evil get? And do we therefore really want to thrive to become the perfect philosopher if it means experiencing that? For example, if Hitler caused so much pain and suffering to so many people during the Holocaust, do we really want to go through that but of a worse/bigger scale in the world of Forms? And also in what form are is the evil in? In the form of famine and disease, murder and genesis or something much worse. Aristotle, another famous philosopher, argued against Plato s well known theory of Forms and stated that what we seen and experience is material whilst universals are only abstract projections of this. This completely contradicts Plato s theory and so do many other philosophers such as Thomas Aquinas. However, whilst it is possible that one of these theories are right there is no evidence to support it which is another one of the theories floors. Another common criticism of Plato s theory is that although the Form of good has had an influence of Christian teachings and theology, it is extremely difficult to see how ... • 4. Digging Seamus Heaney Analysis The poem Digging, is an explorative revelation into the identity of the poet, Seamus Heaney. The poem reflects upon the author s journey to veer from but ultimately honor his rich family traditions. The author s family, one of dedicated potato and turf diggers, pass on the ideals of commitment and diligence through their work from generation to generation. Seamus Heaney, the first man in the past three generations has chosen not to dig in such a way. Rather, Heaney trades the family spade in for an ink pen. Through the symbolism of the poet s pen to record the memories of his father and grandfather, Heaney proves that one s identity is not defined by heritage, but rather by interests and strengths. The author first introduces his pen as symbolic of discovering his personal identity despite the expectations of heritage when he says, Between my finger and my thumb/ The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 1). This line is suggestive that the author did not chose his as a writer identity for himself, rather it was destined for him. Heaney describes the pen as resting between his finger and thumb rather than his hand holding the pen. This word choice gives a sense of greater power to the pen rather than his hand. The pen in this case is symbolic of the notion that the author s passion and strength in writing was destined for him in such a way that heritage and tradition could not sway the course of his life. The author further solidifies that it is his destiny to embrace his identity as a writer when he mentions, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 1). The image of the gun being snug resting in the author s hand is suggestive that the pen belongs in his hand, and fits well. The symbolism of the pen being snug in the poet s hand is evocative of the author being content with his decision to be a poet. The reader is comfortable with the idea of the pen being snug in the poet s hand but the author immediately instills unease in the reader s mind when he says, snug as a gun, (Heaney 1). The poet utilizes this simile to contribute to the symbolism of the pen as the author s quest to verify his identity. A gun is powerful, permanent, and commands attention. The author uses this simile to justify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Never Let Me Go The Asian book Never Let Me Go written by Kazuo Ishiguro takes place in England in the 1990s. The author shows relations to this book by naming it Never Let Me Go. I say this because in the book there is a character who sings a song that is named Never Let Me Go. The main theme in this novel is find out who your true friends are and realize not every friendship is going to be perfect, you will go through struggles just like any other type of relationship. Never Let Me Go happens in a tragic form generally 1990s England, where the lives of customary nationals are drawn out through a state endorsed program of human cloning. The clones, alluded to as understudies, experience childhood in uncommon organizations far from the outside world. As youthful grown ups, they start to give their key organs. All givers get their mind from assigned carers, clones who have not yet started the gift procedure. The clones keep on donating organs until they finish, which is a code word for death after the gift of three or four organs. Be that as it may, this preface is not quickly clear to the peruser. Toward the begin of the novel, storyteller Kathy H. only presents herself as a thirty one year old carer. She has been a carer for almost twelve years, however will abandon her part in a couple of months. Kathy discloses that she needs to return to her recollections of Tommy and Ruth, two companions who grew up with her at the Hailsham school. Kathy does not clarify the gift program, ... When writing by hand, our brain receives feedback from our motor actions, together with the sensation of touching a pencil and paper. Learning by doing Together with neurophysiologist Jean Luc Velay at the University of Marseille, Anne Mangen has written an article published in the Advances in Haptics periodical. A lack of focus There is a lot of research on haptics in relation to computer games, in which for instance vibrating hand controls are employed. According to Mangen, virtual drills with sound and vibration are used for training dentists. But there has been very little effort to include haptics within the humanistic disciplines, she explains. In educational science, there is scant interest in the ergonomics of reading and writing, and its potential significance in the learning process. Mangen refers to an experiment involving two groups of adults, in which the participants were assigned the task of having to learn to write in an unknown alphabet, consisting of approximately twenty letters. One group was taught to write by hand, while the other was using a keyboard. Three and six weeks into the experiment, the participants recollection of these letters, as well as their rapidity in distinguishing right and reversed letters, were tested. Those who had learned the letters by handwriting came out best in all tests. Furthermore, fMRI brain scans indicated an activation of the Broca s area within this group. Among those who had learned by typing on keyboards, there was little or no activation of this area. The sensorimotor component forms an integral part of training for beginners, and in special education for people with learning difficulties. Love of people, love of things, loss of dreams, loss of innocence, loss of love... The Great Gatsby can be seen as a romance novel, or a tragedy, or possibly even a coming of age story for the narrator, Nick Carraway. His position as narrator of this novel shows how Fitzgerald wanted to keep the mythical and almost surreal nature of Mr. Gatsby. Gatsby has money, a high social ranking, extravagant parties, and a girl to dream about endlessly, whereas Nick exists almost in the shadows of Gatsby with no dream at all. Nick watches as Gatsby s life changes and falls apart around him, and Nick s opinion of him varies and fluctuates at times, but he was also the closest friend Gatsby had ever had. Nick illustrates loyalty, divergence, and a lack of ambition throughout his telling of the story, but he is in no way a static character. He is also human, and is flawed, and has kept his morals throughout life, making him the only character in the story who can really change at all. • 10. Personal Leadership Reflection With a million ideas racing continuously over and over in my head, once again like many times before, my struggle would present itself of not being able to write those ideas down on paper. Years of nursing experience, and more recently managing the nursing informatics department, carrying out ideas that would advance the flow of information and improve processes came so easy for me; yet it was so difficult to present this in writing to the leadership group in our facility. To confidently complete a walk through in each department in our hospital with the leadership, verbalizing the changes that would take place was second nature for me. This walk through demonstrated how the changes would improve not only the flow of information but also bridge each department to function in unity. Understanding what needed to take place and following through bringing about positive changes I was comfortable in performing, however, expressing this in written format was something I needed to development considering my position as manager of my department. To receive approval on any request for change, we were required to write our proposal as a professional improvement (PI) project. • 11. Seepage Control in Earthen Dams Most dams in active use today exhibit seepage of one form or another. The location, rate of flow, and turbidity (clear or murky) are the critical factors when evaluating the seriousness of seepage from a dam. Seepage is the continuous movement of water from the upstream face of the dam toward its downstream face, and is a major minor problem when it comes to the life span of dams and embankments. It is a major minor problem because if controlled the affects are minor and not hazardous, but if not controlled it can become a major problem and possibly result in failures. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories based on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a relatively long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed. The two categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape exit and cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns that lead to saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces. Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage and prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year. Frequency should be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be checked more common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all dams should be visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm event, during or after severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is complete and reservoir filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been filled. Dam inspections performed on a regular basis are the most economical aid a dam owner can use to assure the safety and long life of the structure while reducing liability risks. I think they use the fact that his mother just wants to be in her son s life in order to create problems for him with kids at school, because everyone know about his mom s disorder. This helps further the plot for this film. They also use a very light technique to advance the plot. I was able to conclude that most of my purchases were paid with a debit card with the exception of my school payments. Most of my purchases were in store with the exception of a few purchases online. The majority of my purchases were wants and not necessities, and after doing this project throughout the semester I have a lot of unnecessary buying. This paper is a reflection of all of my buying. This graph is a visual of the overall amount spent through the semester. Looking at the entire semester I spent a total of $5,668. I spent $308 on clothes in store and online, $459 on food in the grocery store, $562 on food in multiple restaurants and fast food, $1,049 on entertainment like my vacation and movies, $340 on gas, $177 on the gym, $123 on miscellaneous items from CVS or 7 eleven, and $2,650 on school tuition. The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on unnecessary things. Theme Of Nutting By William Wordsworth William Wordsworth s 1798 poem Nutting was not incorporated into his later great poem, The Prelude, but as a singular piece it reflects The Prelude s recurring themes of reflection and memory. Nutting, written at the same time as several other childhood recollections which would later appear in The Prelude, details an event from his past which contributed to his present. Wordsworth finds this self so crucial and valuable to his current self that he cannot distance his present feelings from those of his past. The new self gains the ability to sense the spirit of the place, just as the past self did, in observing that the trees are silent and the sky intruding. The nook is no longer speaking to him, but it is once again described with the animated qualities of silence and intrusion. The spirit does not speak, but it has returned from whence it departed and intrudes upon Wordsworth just as Wordsworth intruded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This occurrence could have been caused by the company hiring workers with less skill resulting in a decrease in total wages paid out. This is also a controllable variance (Accounting Tools, n.d.) so managers will have the opportunity to adjust the cost of labor as they see fit. Also, the budgeted cost of labor may have been set too high in the first place causing the total cost to be overstated (Accounting Simplified, n.d.). It s also important to look into whether or not actual figures are being reported as oppose to purposely recording favorable values (Nobles, Mattison, Matsumura, Horngren, 2014). The variance in the labor efficiency may be a direct reflection of the use of less skilled workers. The employees used more time (hours) than expected and the result yielded an unfavorable outcome. If the workers are not experienced enough to complete a task efficiently more hours will be used to compensate production demands. Other causes could be attributed to the condition of the equipment and/or poor supervision (Accounting for Management, n.d.). Faulty equipment could play a role in slowing down production and supervisors must step in immediately to remedy any issues that may cause a noticeable change in budgeted expectations. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is not rigidly structured or led by a single figure or group , and most importantly there is not just one kind of feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). Among all these different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the stereotype that feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing could be further from the truth since the actual definition of feminism is, The advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. The problem that arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore misconceptions. • 42. Christian Beliefs Of The Trinity A cornerstone teaching of many Christian beliefs is that of the Trinity. It is also a debated and misunderstood concept. Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may be more familiar with, or might believe. God as the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help our human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinity from other religions. Two common religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals himself in three different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view might see the Trinity as three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and different but related gods with the same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that of the Greeks with their many different God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with a background in something like Hinduism, might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might see the Father as one God while the Son is a manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same could be seen for the Holy Spirit. By explaining the Trinity, it is seen of these views are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the sound that turns heads and gives strangers an opportunity to interact with others. The attention that a sneeze receives, leaves all the poor coughs and hiccups alone in the corner, waiting for a blessing. Even with the parody version of Bless You, Cough you, sneezes continue to hog the stage. However, had Pope Gregory I never encourage the saying, had it die off with the outbreak of the bubonic plague, or better yet, had the superstition that sneezes left people s soul vulnerable to the devil never existed, it would have not been so over popularized. This change in history would of resulted in a decreased awareness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Yellow Wallpaper The Yellow Wallpaper Critical Analysis The short story The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in an attempt to mirror her life experiences and express her opinions on many issues of her time. She does so in a way that is both intriguing and thought provoking to the reader. The main character of the story who stays unnamed, likely because she is based off of herself, has deep psychological issues which the root of is unknown and meant to be interpreted from the information in the story. Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses her struggles and experiences in her own life to channel the main character and create the emotional whirlwind of a story that she did. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born on July 3, 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an article published in The Forerunner, Gilman explains what lead her to write The Yellow Wallpaper. About her treatment methods she says, I went, in devout faith and some faint stir of hope, to a noted specialist in nervous diseases, the best known in the country. This wise man put me to bed and applied the rest cure, to which a still good physique responded so promptly that he concluded there was nothing much the matter with me, and sent me home with solemn advice to live as domestic a life as far as possible, to have but two hours intellectual life a day, and never to touch pen, brush, or pencil again as long as I lived. This was in 1887. I went home and obeyed those directions for some three months, and came so near the borderline of utter mental ruin that I could see over. In the short story, the narrator must strictly follow the rules that her husband John sets for her which almost identically mirror the rules that Gilman s specialist recommended for her. John does not allow her to write and she must sneak writing in her journal when he is not around. Also, he requires her to have a certain amount of rest each day and to be isolated for much of her day as well. During her constant isolation in her room is when she began her perpetual obsession with the rooms yellow wallpaper. Her loneliness caused her subconscious thoughts to take near complete control of herself which is why she began hallucinating and seeing a woman in the wallpaper and throughout whatever world she saw through her eyes. During Gilmans real life treatment, she said she almost went through complete utter ruin, but it is clear that the story s main character surpassed even this level of insanity. It raises the question, did the wallpaper make the narrator go insane or if she was already insane and saw something in the wallpaper that wasn t there? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. When It Comes To The Fourth Amendment And Searching A... When it comes to the Fourth Amendment and searching a person s car or their person, there are a few factors to take into consideration. In order for an officer to search an individual s car, they must have consent, otherwise the search is unreasonable and whatever evidence seized could be inadmissible in the court of law. However, it is possible to conduct a search without consent and seize evidence without a warrant but there ought to be probable cause or reasonable suspicion. The two differ in the sense that reasonable suspicion is based off past experiences and expertise. Probable cause is needed for a search to take place; conversely if there is no probable cause but an officer has enough reasonable suspicion, they still are allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, in Minnesota v. Dickerson (1993), if an officer can readily identify an object from a pat down, they can use their discretion and experience and retrieve it if they know it to be true. If they are unsure and take it, whatever was seized is inadmissible in court. In legal terms, this is known as the plain feel doctrine. This allows a police officer to seize objects during a legitimate pat down search if by plain feel he reasonably believes it to be contraband. Just because the plain feel doctrine has been established does not granted officers the right to touch, it simply permits an officer to interpret tactile sensations to identify an object during a pat down (Poulin, 1997 pg. 23). There is a strong correlation between the Fourth Amendment and racial profiling. I asked a police officer what they believed was the main reason for a lawsuit against an officer and they said violations in regards to the Fourth Amendment followed by failure to act. Take the United States v. Brignoni Ponce case for instance. A police officer pulled over a drive that looked to be Mexican because he believed them to be an illegal immigrant. The problem was that officers were roving the border and stopping individuals for no reason other than to see if they were illegal immigrants. The Fourth Amendment held that a patrolman is prohibited to crowd the Mexican border just to stop and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
