Compare And Contrast Social Gospel And Social Darwinism
Compare and Contrast Social Darwinism and Social Gospel
Social Darwinism is based on Charles Darwins thoery of natural evalution. They based a persons
fitness off of weath, social status, and property. Poor poeple were seen as lazy, and less fit to survive.
They decided that anyone could have a good work ethic, intelligence, and perserverance. Supported
the idea of goverment policies should not regulate the market place or atempt social reform. Social
Darwinism was also used by Andrew Caenagie and other Industrialists to support thier business
practices.
Social Gospel was a movement to put social problems with Christianity , Issues such as inequality,
alcoholism , crime, uncleam environment, child labor, poor schools and the danger of war.

Wild Style Essay
Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is considered
to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion
picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released,
people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more
interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was not well known and was
among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has a passion for hip hop culture,
especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his decision, Zero still tries to prove his
belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert event. The several elements of hip hop are
seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says [Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this
paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that
are mostly involved in this film: graffiti and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element
that can be seen throughout the film. As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film.

In addition to graffiti, we see a lot of breakdancing scenes in this movie. The example is when the
white journalist Virginia go to a black club with Zoro, Phade, and Hector. In this scene, we see a full
element of hip hop. Everyone can dance in this scene, even young kids. One thing that makes this
scene interesting is the fact that, in the old days a club in black community is more like a meet up
place. It is a gathering space where everyone can come and enjoy the music. Everyone is welcome to
go on a stage and rap. Everyone has a freedom of speech, but also respect others

Summary Of 1900 s Chinese Picture Brides
Every little girl dreams about her wedding day, from the food to her dress. The little girl dreams of
what she assumes what will be the happiest day of her life. But for some girls, this day is more of a
trade for new beginnings. Such as the 1900 s Chinese picture brides, as told in the story Come,
Japanese!. These young women would promise themselves to extremely eligible bachelors from
places like the United States of America (USA). Their hopes were to start a new life in a new country
where they would no longer be oppressed and live happy lives with their tall and handsome American
husbands. The women came over on a boat and lived on it for several months while waiting to arrive
in America. The narrator describes that the women are mostly ... Show more content on

Dr. Jekyll Vs. Hyde
The purpose of the mask is to portray the combined inner psyche of Jekyll and Hyde. There are two
distinct halves of the mask: the left side is Jekyll and the right side is Hyde. The far left side of the
mask is white, which transitions into a light grey further to the right. The far right side is a dark, blood
red. Going towards the middle from the right side, the red becomes lighter. The middle is where these
two colors, grey and red, blend together. The red is slightly to the right of the middle, pushing over
into the left side. The left side, however, has a small amount of tiny lines of red paint, scattered about.
Each of these elements represents the minds of Jekyll/Hyde and how their minds interact with each
other. The white on the very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Titled Suppressed Emotions Can Lead to Aggression, by Rick Nauert PhD, the article talks about how
scientists from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Minnesota found, through their
study, that people who must keep their emotions bottled up [...] are more likely to act aggressively (4).
The study was conducted by having the subjects watch two notoriously disgusting classic movie
scenes: one from the 1983 film The Meaning of Life and another from the 1996 film Trainspotting
(Nauert 3). Half of the subjects were allowed to show emotion while the other half were asked to show
no visible reaction to the scenes being played. To determine how aggressive they were after watching
them, they played a video game in which they could blast an online opponent with noise. (In reality,
there was no opponent and no one was blasted, though subjects thought they were doing so.) (Nauert

were able to show emotion

Venerable Bede s Ecclesiastical History Of The English Nation
The excerpt from the Venerable Bede s Ecclesiastical History of the English Nation that was assigned
this week covers St. Augustine of Canterbury s mission to Britain. Augustine was sent there by Pope
Gregory the Great to preach the word of God to the English nation. ( chap. XXIII) England, at that
time, was a barbarous and fierce place with a strange language that Augustine did not know. He went
to Britain with several monks and was warmly received by King Ethelbert of Kent. The King was
married to a Frankish Christian princess named Bertha. The Queen continued to practice her faith
despite the fact that her husband remained a pagan. Augustine and his fellow religious were permitted
by King Ethelbert to preach and baptize new converts. They

America has been fascinated with racing since the 1800 s and there are so many types of auto racing in
America and each one is unique. Automobile racing is a competition race between cars and drivers.
Even the first motor race between steam engines took place around 1867, this was 65 years after the
steam engine on the road.
The first arranged race took place on August 30, 1867. They raced over a distance of 8 miles and they

Let s look into Formula One, the foundation of Formula One began in 1946 with the Federation

must comply with. Formula One uses the points systems and various styles have been in place. The

Formula One back in the 1930 s but World War II began and Formula One was placed on hold.
Originally there were people who wanted a driver s championship, and this did not take place till 1950
in Silverstone. One month earlier the first F1 race had taken place in PAU. Formula One unlike the
other styles of racing only had a few championship races. This changed more in 1983, when fuel cost
and the economy predicted a part of how the races would be ran.
Our most recent Formula One cars are designed with a single seat open wheel racer. They are built
mainly from carbon filter composites. In our last season cars were powered by 1.6 litre turbocharged v

cautious giving out information about their engine, car and performance. There are technical
guidelines that the Formula 1 engine will put around 600 horsepower with hybrid drivetrain, this is in

LDCT Screening
According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for
detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be
effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography
(LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings
would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and
Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly
decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the
expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By
measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending
expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers
that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are
involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer
patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with
LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but
since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT
testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for
LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA
refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study
indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA
analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and
whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of
cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet
proved to be a replacement for LDCT

The Gangster Film
The Gangster film is a genre that tells a story that can be universally appreciated. Formed in America
there is a grand appeal to their methods and composition. Gangster film has a certain formula, where
any country can use its intrinsic convections, but it s also adaptable enough to conform with any
particular country s context without losing its inherent meaning. In French cinema following the
Second World War, for example, there was a visible shift that had French films shadow Hollywood s
approach. Director Jean Pierre Melville was one of the pioneers of the French crime movie. In 1956
his appreciation of the American gangster and film noir led way to Bob le Flambeur . A film very
American in its characteristics, but still withholds a French aura about it.
The American features in Bob le Flambeur are hard to miss. In its settings, with its noir like, sulky
lighting and urban ambiance, the film provides meaning with the characters surroundings. Most urban
city settings in gangster films support a type of community that breeds gangsters. ... Show more

on the crime boss, but in the film is one that is retired and respected by most. He has Paolo as his

Eloise says. Her getting angered by the fact the Ramona created a new friend in her mind shows how

replace them and go on with life as if nothing happened. This is not the same for Eloise. To Eloise,
Walt was irreplaceable. When she finally tried to replace Walt with Lew she grew very unhappy and

when she fell and twisted her ankle. To cheer her up, Walt said Poor Uncle Wiggily . Eloise admitted
she misses him and still mourns his death. The death of Walt wasn t only taking a toll on Eloise but
also on Ramona because Eloise took her frustration out on Ramona. After her rage, Eloise asks Mary
Jane I was a nice girl wasn t I? For the first time the reader sees Eloise possibly looking for change in
her life. The author is suggesting that Eloise can change her life by perhaps going back to the way

Disadvantages Of Flexible Working Systems
Nowadays, for most people, they may prefer choose the life without rigid or fixed usually. Instead, the
balance life should be flexible enough to take account of various circumstances, places, times, etc.
Consequently work as an important part of people s life, people will be likely to keep the balance of it.
Recently in many countries, the flexible working system is becoming more and more common in
institutions and companies. Some of these countries governments also support it, because the system
has low time and places requirements, and it is a new approach for employers which means it has the

wonderful system for both of employers and employees. It can help people keep balance between
work and life whatever you are employer or employee. Comparing the advantages and disadvantages
of flexible working, I think it has more advantages and these flexible manage ways can make hard

Measures for the Protection of E-Consumers
MEASURES FOR THE PROTECTION OF E CONSUMER In this electronic age there is a need to
protect consumers‟ interest and following are the areas of central importance for the effective
protection of e consumers. 1. Correct Information An informed consumer is self sufficient to look after
her/his own interests than an uninformed consumer. Appropriate information on the products is very
important for e consumers as that can help the consumers to assess the benefits and risks of entering
into a particular transaction. If the consumer is already aware of such information then there will not
be unnecessary disappointments, hence subsequent disputes, are avoided. Appropriate information on
the products acts as a substitute for the real life „touch and feel‟ that occurs during offline
transactions. Thus, legal regulation requiring e retailers to provide detailed information about their
products, the sales process, etc. is not particularly arduous for the e retailers. They should provide
information about the following: Information about the E Retailer should include at least the
information regarding the e retailer s identity, place of registration, physical location, and contact
details including physical address, postal address, e mail address and telephone number. This
information allows them to assess the reliability of the e retailer. Information about the Product : e
retailers must provide, information regarding an accurate, and appropriately detailed, description of

the game Amatic like always have stayed true to the Chinese origins of pandas by setting the 5 reels

Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush
In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how
society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other
human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O
Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the
rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the
use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid
imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a
star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s
eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his
hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye,
for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was
gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O
Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this
man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness
and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers

Imperialism of India by Britain Essay
Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another
country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as
nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country.
This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that
person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries
did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries.

Then there s the negative which may take away a colony s individuality and spark rebellion. Britain s
a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we also see the
rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a brief struggle with
France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to have Indians harvest raw
materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them;
because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a
choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials
Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to
Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of
income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian
cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get
business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. British citizen did not

having made moves against organized crime, possibly angering them, but what many proponents of
this Mafia theory point back to is Jack Ruby who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, he was a Dallas

High end officials also believed that the Mafia had a role within the assassination conspiracy with the

Examples Of Moral Compass
Moral Compass
Navigation helps individuals arrive to a given destination, but the human life also requires of such
navigation. Some individuals unconsciously seek directions when challenged with a given issue and
know which way to steer because of their moral compass. Furthermore, the moral compass is the soul
that guides the personal self, but it is also the non material aspect of a human being that is immortal.
Although, the soul s existence is in question, there is evidence that validates that the soul is real. Such
evidence includes Plato s theory of the tripartite soul and Sigmund Freud s psychodynamic theory,
which reevaluates Plato s theory. Both address that the soul s existence is the personality of a human
being.

Subsequently, greater evidence validates the soul s existence through Plato s theory of the tripartite
soul. Plato s theory is broken down into three separate parts: reason, spirit, and body appetites. Plato
defines reason to be the ability to use logic and language, while spirit is the emotional drives humans
feel such as anger or love. And, he defines body appetites as essentials that the body requires to
survive like food, water, and sex. Additionally, Plato states that together these parts create a living
organism or a human soul whose purpose is to be in a healthy state. To attain the soul s healthy state
all of the three parts must be balance and such balance is only achieved when the element of reason
leads spirit and body appetites. Otherwise the soul will come across a dysfunction, which can cause
further effects. For example, let s say individual X s soul is not lead by reason, but instead by spirit;
and one day X discovers that his girlfriend cheated. X is not going to act reasonably instead he is
going to act upon his emotional drives like anger and frustration. Those emotional drives then cause
his reason to be set aside reasonable thought leaving a large possibility to become unstable. At an
unstable state it can cause X s soul or personality to be insecure or damaged. This is an example that
shows what can occur when

The Role Of Policies And Procedures For Children And Young...
This assignment will explain the role of policies and procedures in helping children, young people and
their families.
Policies and procedures are set of guidelines and rules put in place by the government to ensure the
safety of children and young people while they are in care. It is important that anyone working with
children and young people is fully aware of policies and procedures put in place in their setting and

Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Rosseau
Golding and Rousseau brought two different ideas using Lord of the Flies. They make you really think
on what they are trying to prove. You can agree with either of them but people have their own
opinions. Golding and Rousseau disagreed with each other s opinions on how human nature becomes
evil. If I had to choose whose opinion I agree with, then I would choose
Rousseau s.
Rousseau s beliefs regarding human nature were that people are not born evil. He believes that people
are good and act the way they want to. He does not believe that anyone can never be evil without
something causing them to be. He believes that when someone is evil or makes bad decisions, it is
because they are corrupted by society. People in society makes someone desire something that us past
the level of good to meet their needs which is by something bad. Written by Rousseau, Let us
conclude that, being self sufficient and subject to so few passions, he could have no feeling or
knowledge but such as befitted his situation. I believe that his statement is explaining that when

Essay on The Struggle for Acceptance in The Cider House...
The Struggle for Acceptance in The Cider House Rules
In The Cider House Rules, John Irving brings the orphan Homer Wells to vivid life in a rather unusual
way. Homer s life and existence are part of a large symbolic link to the actual book itself. Homer s life
as an orphan struggling for acceptance and to Be of Use is shadowed by The Cider House Rules
struggle for acceptance in the mass literary market and its need to purvey its views on abortion.
After writing his first few books, Irving was left disappointed that although the literary critics
embraced them, for the general masses his books fell on deaf ears. (Hill 250) Unfortunately it is the
general case that the masses and the elite are not in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than write a pamphlet destined for the racks of the local obstetrician s office, he writes a
something much more marketable. He attempts to write the responsible soap opera , a form of fiction
that is arguably most sought after and hardest to attain. (Hill 251) Irving uses his typical
sledgehammer technique of pounding home his message, while wrapping it in a beautiful story. The
two are not fully integrated: His pro legalized abortion stance could survive independent of Homer
and his life, and Homer did not need to replace Larch at the orphanage. However, without the
assistance of the other thread in the book, each side does seem rather pale. Unless the abortion issue
directly affected ones self, there is no reason to go out and find information on it. As Irving recognized
the synergistic value, it snowballed into what only Irving himself can adequately describe: I honestly
believe that this book is different from anything I ve ever written. It is a book with a polemic.
Unfortunately, not all of The Cider House Rules is responsible. At times it waxes dramatic, at others,
purely disgusting. I fear that some of Irving s audience was lost when Larch s first love came in with a
uterus with the composition and texture of Muenster Cheese, or the image of the failed

Examples Of Ethical Issues In News
Ethical issues are situations which have positive and negative effects. TV news programmes try to be
as objective, fair and accurate when presenting their stories to the public but what does it actually
mean. Objectivity means not being bias, judgemental or prejudice when presenting the news. Fairness
means that the information is free from discrimination while accuracy means the facts are true and
free from error. In other words, the news stories that reporters make should not have personal opinions
towards an issue. This is so that the news stories, that are shown to the public, are neutral and
unbiased. The New Zealand television industry have three main news programmes. One news, owned
by TVNZ, which is owned by the government. Three news, owned by media works, which is owned

Some people believe that news programmes shouldn t care about objectivity, fairness and accuracy
while others do believe they should care. this means that the issues and two opinions or sides to it,
which has resulted in being an ethical issue. The person himself will have to decide which side they
believe is right and and which side is wrong. This opinion should not be used by reporters when
representing the news. the right side is ethical while the wrong side is said to be unethical. Ethics has
everything to from feeling, to beliefs and behaviour. Objectivity, fairness and accuracy are issues in
news reporting because the feelings, beliefs and behavior of the reporter should not convey the issues
that they are reporting. This means that their news story should not lean to one side of the argument,
or the other. This would lead to the story being opinionated and biased. The story should be neutral

Single-Sex Education Policy Analysis
In today s society the word gender has once again regained its popularity among the media. A single
gender class or school is one that contains learners of a single sex as opposed to coeducational classes
or schools. It is possible to have a coeducational school with single gender classes. The percentage of
coeducational classes and schools is far more dominant than that of single gender classes and schools
in the nation. While it is clear that the preference among the nation is coeducational schools there have
been numerous schools that are on the raise to establish single gender schools especially after 2006
when a few restrictions on Title IX have been lifted. Title IX permits for single sex schools but have a
small exception for single gender classrooms within coeducational school. The exceptions must be
met with appropriate justifications. The 2006 loosen restrictions must not ... Show more content on

Is Polonius Justified In Hamlet
The Justified Murder Polonius: O, I am slain!

Hamlet: Nay, I know not. Is it the King?
Queen: O, what a rash and bloody deed is this!
Hamlet: A bloody deed almost as bad, good mother, As kill a king, and marry with his brother
William Shakespeare writes in his tragedy Hamlet. The exchange takes place, set in 14th or 15th
century Denmark, right as Prince Hamlet thrusts his sword into his lover s father. With the intentions
of killing his possibly evil stepfather, hiding behind a curtain, Hamlet unintentionally murders
Polonius. At face value, this murder appears wrong and unjust. However, in Hamlet s time the murder
of Polonius is justified. This murder is condoned because Polonius helped Claudius seize the throne,

Visual Anthropology And Cultural Anthropology
Society is made up of ordinary items that throughout the years are given value by outsiders, people
who think outside of the world they are in, or by those, who are, from a different time period.
Anthropologists have been able to study the differences in human cultures and how they have evolve.
There are now four major fields of anthropology: biological anthropology, cultural anthropology,
linguistic anthropology, and archaeology (Dennis O Neil). Within these fields are subfields, visual
anthropology is a very important subfield of cultural anthropology. Visual anthropology is the study of
the history of human customs and culture through what one sees or perceives in various types of
media. Therefore, ...the use of visual material in anthropological research...is the study of visual
systems and visible cultures (Banks and Morphy). Since media is seen as a representation of the truth,
it is reasonable to say that it plays a major role in the accurate views of how society is. There are two
categories in which I would like to describe how visual anthropology tries to describe human culture
and custom: images and objects. Through visual anthropology, images, ads, and cartoons are
constantly changing individual s views and the world in which they live in. Images are not merely
pictures to state the obvious, they are pictures that have a deeper meaning. Whether the meaning is
shown or not shown, they convey representation of something more meaningful in the end. Stuart Hall

Examples Of Propaganda In Augustus Of Primaporta
Throughout history, propaganda has been used as a means to spread a political message. Shown above
are two different examples of propaganda, each from a different time period and society. On the left is
Augustus of Primaporta, a marble statue carved in Rome during the 1st century C.E. To the right is
Chairman Mao en Route to Anayan, an oil on canvas painted by Liu Chunhua in the People s Republic
of China during 1967. While seemingly distinct in visual appearance, both pieces incorporate similar
aspects from society that contribute to the overall intent. Each piece implements certain elements from
society that are considered to be idealized, resulting in an almost god like representation of their
respective leader. As the first emperor of Rome, Augustus sought to demonstrate his military and
physical strength. In Augustus of Primaporta, he is portrayed as muscular and commanding, with his
hand outstretched as if he is addressing his troops. Then, shown to his right is a dolphin, symbolizing
his recent naval victory at the Battle of Actium. However, due to the differences between societies,
Mao chose to be depicted as wise rather than strong. Directly before Mao en Route to Anayan was

The foundation of modern cosmology can be described as an arrangement of observations,

Through time, many types of people have created stories, myths, and ideas of how we came to be.

that makes itself felt by its gravitational influence on the visible matter. We are still unclear about dark
matter but we can detect its presence with telescopes.

Q8: Why does a global airline like United Airlines need to engage in polycentric marketing?
United Airlines covers the globe and carries passengers across routes on five continents. However, it
recognises that customers in different parts of the world have different needs and a different marketing
mix is recruited to attract different groups of people. Polycentric marketing is the route to creating the
best mix i.e. researching the most appropriate mix for each geographical group of customers.
Q9: How important is branding in the airline business?
Branding is extremely important in the airline business, as customers have a good knowledge of the
merits of the major competing brands based on media coverage, word of mouth and personal
experience. This is why United Airlines places so much emphasis on brand values which shape
customers perceptions and thoughts about the business. It is important therefore to build excitement
around the brand coupled with confidence in aspects such as reliability and safety.

markets with those of respective crude oil prices using cointegration techniques (Cuthbertson, Hall,

run relationship if they move closely together in the long run, even though they may have drifted apart
in the short run. This long run association is referred to as a cointegrating vector. If there is a long run
correlation between the variables, a regression containing all the variables of a cointegrating vector
will have a stationary error term, even if none of the variables taken alone is stationary. Stock (1987)

Managerial Blunders
Introduction A managerial blunder is a blunder or mistake that a company, institution, or firm makes
effecting the image and reputation behind the company s name. The negative externalities from the

there is a rating system in place. The 2006 documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated argued that an

The Danger of Using Literature and Fiction as a Historical...
Literature and fiction can be dangerous to use alone as a historical source. However, in looking at it
with an analytical and open mind and incorporating it with textbooks, readers can gain tremendous
knowledge from literature. Looking at the portrayal of a topic by an author is important. All authors
write with specific audiences in mind, and with an intention or point. Understanding the point that
authors strive to convey can reveal a great deal about opinions and perspectives of the time period.
Literature is absolutely essential to world history. The insights in fiction go far beyond that of
textbook learning. Gender roles, the role of the court, and romances are effectively portrayed in
fiction, and convey insights that are different from those in a textbook.
The role of males in Aristocratic Japan and Italy was far superior to women. Both Heian Japan and
Renaissance Italy accepted a sexual double standard. For example, extra marital affairs were normal
for men. They were even openly discussed. In Italy, though men could only have one wife at a time,
there were high death rates, so many people married more than once in their lives. Wealthy Japanese
men most commonly had concubines. Although Christianity in Italy had prohibited concubines,
wealthy men did have mistresses, who did not have any legal standing. Heian Japan believed that the
first wife was most important, but polygamy was still popular and accepted. Unlike the exploitive

Upon The Burning Of Our House
Scriptures composed by authors around the world at many different times is how literature came to be,
and seeing how it has shaped and changed over the years is truly astounding. One might turn towards
a writing called Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God , by Jonathan Edwards to get a sense of how
dark someone can make a piece of text, or maybe a poem called, Upon the Burning of Our House , by
Anne Bradstreet, to see how well words can be put together to contemplate a life like experience.
Jonathan was born in 1703 and was a child prodigy at Yale University, which led him to become a
Puritan minister later in life, which greatly affected his writing style. Whereas Anne Bradstreet was

In the poem Upon the Burning of Our House , Bradstreet displays a kind of depressing mood as she
explains her losses in great detail, but also has a sense of hope, as she thinks of how God has blessed
her throughout her life and how he will continue to do so once she dies and goes to heaven. In the last
stanza of the poem, it reads, A price so vast as is unknown/ Yet by His gift is made thine own/ There s
wealth enough, I need no more/ Farewell, my pelf, farewell my store/ The world no longer let me
love/ My hope and treasure lies above. From reading this part of the passage and seeing how she
words the things that she has lost, it makes the tone very dark, whereas later on in the stanza, where
she explains how her treasures being above, leaving a spark of hope. In a contrasting story, where
Bradstreet leaves a spark of hope, Edwards leaves nothing behind as he explains the fierceness of God
and his lack of mercy. In Edward s writing, his main focus was to convince the reader(s) that God was
a downright cold blooded killer that wouldn t hesitate to kill anyone. In the middle of the writing,
Edwards says, The bow of God s wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice

  • 3. Wild Style Essay Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is considered to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released, people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was not well known and was among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has a passion for hip hop culture, especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his decision, Zero still tries to prove his belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert event. The several elements of hip hop are seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says [Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that are mostly involved in this film: graffiti and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element that can be seen throughout the film. As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film. In addition to graffiti, we see a lot of breakdancing scenes in this movie. The example is when the white journalist Virginia go to a black club with Zoro, Phade, and Hector. In this scene, we see a full element of hip hop. Everyone can dance in this scene, even young kids. One thing that makes this scene interesting is the fact that, in the old days a club in black community is more like a meet up place. It is a gathering space where everyone can come and enjoy the music. Everyone is welcome to go on a stage and rap. Everyone has a freedom of speech, but also respect others ... There are two distinct halves of the mask: the left side is Jekyll and the right side is Hyde. The far left side of the mask is white, which transitions into a light grey further to the right. The far right side is a dark, blood red. Going towards the middle from the right side, the red becomes lighter. The middle is where these two colors, grey and red, blend together. The red is slightly to the right of the middle, pushing over into the left side. The left side, however, has a small amount of tiny lines of red paint, scattered about. Each of these elements represents the minds of Jekyll/Hyde and how their minds interact with each other. The white on the very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Titled Suppressed Emotions Can Lead to Aggression, by Rick Nauert PhD, the article talks about how scientists from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Minnesota found, through their study, that people who must keep their emotions bottled up [...] are more likely to act aggressively (4). The study was conducted by having the subjects watch two notoriously disgusting classic movie scenes: one from the 1983 film The Meaning of Life and another from the 1996 film Trainspotting (Nauert 3). Half of the subjects were allowed to show emotion while the other half were asked to show no visible reaction to the scenes being played. To determine how aggressive they were after watching them, they played a video game in which they could blast an online opponent with noise. (In reality, there was no opponent and no one was blasted, though subjects thought they were doing so.) (Nauert 12). The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly decrease this cost. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. Gangster film has a certain formula, where any country can use its intrinsic convections, but it s also adaptable enough to conform with any particular country s context without losing its inherent meaning. Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye, for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And, he defines body appetites as essentials that the body requires to survive like food, water, and sex. Additionally, Plato states that together these parts create a living organism or a human soul whose purpose is to be in a healthy state. To attain the soul s healthy state all of the three parts must be balance and such balance is only achieved when the element of reason leads spirit and body appetites. Otherwise the soul will come across a dysfunction, which can cause further effects. There are two categories in which I would like to describe how visual anthropology tries to describe human culture and custom: images and objects. Through visual anthropology, images, ads, and cartoons are constantly changing individual s views and the world in which they live in. Images are not merely pictures to state the obvious, they are pictures that have a deeper meaning. Whether the meaning is shown or not shown, they convey representation of something more meaningful in the end. Stuart Hall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Examples Of Propaganda In Augustus Of Primaporta Throughout history, propaganda has been used as a means to spread a political message. Shown above are two different examples of propaganda, each from a different time period and society. On the left is Augustus of Primaporta, a marble statue carved in Rome during the 1st century C.E. To the right is Chairman Mao en Route to Anayan, an oil on canvas painted by Liu Chunhua in the People s Republic of China during 1967. While seemingly distinct in visual appearance, both pieces incorporate similar aspects from society that contribute to the overall intent. Each piece implements certain elements from society that are considered to be idealized, resulting in an almost god like representation of their respective leader. As the first emperor of Rome, Augustus sought to demonstrate his military and physical strength. In Augustus of Primaporta, he is portrayed as muscular and commanding, with his hand outstretched as if he is addressing his troops. Then, shown to his right is a dolphin, symbolizing his recent naval victory at the Battle of Actium. However, due to the differences between societies, Mao chose to be depicted as wise rather than strong. Directly before Mao en Route to Anayan was created, Mao launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in an effort to fix the economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through time, many types of people have created stories, myths, and ideas of how we came to be. Until the nineteenth and twentieth century, the evolution of theories was slow. The basic philosophy of cointegration technique is that two or more variables may have long run relationship if they move closely together in the long run, even though they may have drifted apart in the short run. This long run association is referred to as a cointegrating vector. If there is a long run correlation between the variables, a regression containing all the variables of a cointegrating vector will have a stationary error term, even if none of the variables taken alone is stationary. In the autobiographical memoir Letters Written During a Short Residence in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, the author s purpose is to present her experiences with cultural differences, moral values, and views on life. The memoir is organized by chronological order, starting from her journey to Sweden, and ending with her final stay in Denmark. So far, indeed, from entering immediately into your character, and making you feel instantly at your ease, like well bred French, their overacted civility is a continual restraint on all your actions (Wollstonecraft 21). However, in looking at it with an analytical and open mind and incorporating it with textbooks, readers can gain tremendous knowledge from literature. Looking at the portrayal of a topic by an author is important. All authors write with specific audiences in mind, and with an intention or point. Understanding the point that authors strive to convey can reveal a great deal about opinions and perspectives of the time period. Literature is absolutely essential to world history. The insights in fiction go far beyond that of textbook learning. Gender roles, the role of the court, and romances are effectively portrayed in fiction, and convey insights that are different from those in a textbook. The role of males in Aristocratic Japan and Italy was far superior to women. Both Heian Japan and Renaissance Italy accepted a sexual double standard. For example, extra marital affairs were normal for men. They were even openly discussed. In Italy, though men could only have one wife at a time, there were high death rates, so many people married more than once in their lives. Wealthy Japanese men most commonly had concubines. Although Christianity in Italy had prohibited concubines, wealthy men did have mistresses, who did not have any legal standing. In the poem Upon the Burning of Our House , Bradstreet displays a kind of depressing mood as she explains her losses in great detail, but also has a sense of hope, as she thinks of how God has blessed her throughout her life and how he will continue to do so once she dies and goes to heaven. In the last stanza of the poem, it reads, A price so vast as is unknown/ Yet by His gift is made thine own/ There s wealth enough, I need no more/ Farewell, my pelf, farewell my store/ The world no longer let me love/ My hope and treasure lies above. From reading this part of the passage and seeing how she words the things that she has lost, it makes the tone very dark, whereas later on in the stanza, where she explains how her treasures being above, leaving a spark of hope. In a contrasting story, where Bradstreet leaves a spark of hope, Edwards leaves nothing behind as he explains the fierceness of God and his lack of mercy. In Edward s writing, his main focus was to convince the reader(s) that God was a downright cold blooded killer that wouldn t hesitate to kill anyone. In the middle of the writing, Edwards says, The bow of God s wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice bends the arrow at your heart, and strains the bow, and it is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, and that of an angry God, without any promise or obligation at all, that keeps the arrow one moment from being made drunk with your blood.
