Summary Of Robert Fischell Speech
Robert Fischell is an inventor of medical devices. His goal is to educate the audience with an
informative speech about his three inventions that he believes can have a significant positive effect
on millions of people. The first invention he describes consists of a device implanted into a patient
to detect acute myocardial infection (AMI). The second inventionis a device that helps eliminate
migraineheadaches. The third invention details the best way to treat epilepsy through a responsive
electrical treatment. Robert Fischell delivered the speech in acceptance of his 2005 TEDaward in an
official conference. His credibility cannot be doubted as he is the inventor of other well known
medical devices such as, the rechargeable pacemaker, the insulin pump, and a pre cursor to GPS.
The speaker s fascinating inventive capability, and determination to make the world a better place,
adds to his credibility. The TED conference consisted of approximately a thousand people from
different fields such as technology, design, business, science, entertainment, as well as the non
profit world. The audience is not only limited to the live audience as millions of people can access
the 26:46 minute speech through the internet and mass media. The speaker used a hook effectively
to draw the audience into the speech. He starts by noting that the speech is aimed at discussing the
invention that can have an impact on ten to a hundred million people. With such a remarkable
statement, everyone would be interested to know the details of his inventions. At the same time, he
mentions his previous inventions, stents, and insulin pumps for the diabetic, which he discussed in
the prior film. This creates trust among the audience about the speaker s credibility. The speech s
opening fully establishes the intention of the presentation.
Speech Content and Structure
The presentation was entirely focused on the primary objective of the speech and uses a problem
and solution technique. Fischell s argument relates to how disease occurs, and how his inventions
would contribute towards solving the problem. For instance, Fischell states that a migraine
headache is an occurrence similar to an electrical impulse. His equipment would create a

Leadership Warren Buffet Essay
About Leader
Warren Edward Buffett, who was often called the Oracle of Omaha or the Sage of Omaha , born
August, 30th 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. In his early age, Mr. Buffet started working in his
grandfather s grocery store. He purchased his first stock at age 11, which he ended up making a
five dollar profit on this investment. At age 14, he started working as a newspaper delivery boy.
He got his bachelor s degree from The University of Nebraska. Mr. Buffett graduated from
Columbia Business School and earned M.S. in Economics in 1951. Shortly after completing
college, Warren founded the Buffet partnership.

Mr. Buffett s decision to expand into insurance operations. Today, the company s insurance
operation is a major source of capital for Berkshire Hathaway s other investments.
When Buffett made a decision in expanding into insurance, the insurance industry was a booming
business. He always made sure Berkshire s insurance companies maintained capital strength at
exceptionally high levels. This strength differentiated Berkshire s insurance companies from their
competitors. Again this proves his market acumen and visionary ability which helped to see future
trend and understand business well ahead of other rivals.
After Warren Buffettconverted Berkshire Hathaway from a textile to an insurance company, he
started doing strategic acquisition. Initially he looked for reinsurance companies in the United
States that had sound management, but were in need of capital to expand. In today s economic
uncertainties, Buffett s saying will remain a guiding principal for all investors:
Be fearful when others are greedy; be greedy when others are scared for their capital . Mr. Buffett
started expanding Berkshire Hathaway s business into life, accident and health reinsurers. He did
strategic investments and acquisition in internationally based property and casualty reinsurers. In
the late 19th century, when the financial market took a

How Did Portuguese Affect The Development Of East African...
1. International trade with the Indian Ocean commercial network affected the people of East
Africa in both positive and negative ways. It caused the economy to grow because during this
period the Indian Ocean was a great way to trade goods from the Red Sea to China, trade become
very prominent because many port cities grew to rely on it. On the other hand, the trading impacted
negatively because the wealth that was acquired by the East Africans gained attention from
immigrants all over, which caused the Portuguese to conquer the coast.
2. Muslim traders introduced Islam to East Africa and they helped the development of Swahili
societies. The 8th and 9th centuries of Swahili people were different from the others because the

The Portuguese first traded with East Africa and once they were drawn in by the fortune they saw,
the conquered the coast. Portuguese invaded, defeated local rulers, and took control of Zanzibar,
they invaded and conquered Kilwa and Mombasa, and they built Fort Jesus in Mombasa to guard th
port of Mombasa. In addition to that, the brought Christianity and brutal rules. In conclusion, the
Portuguese affected the growth and development of East Africa in a negative way.
4. The Portuguese imperialism was more forceful and uninvited compared to the Omani
imperialism, which was more invited and wanted. Since the Swahili people didn t like the
Portuguese so they wanted the the Omans to come and defeat the Portuguese since they were loyal
trading partners, a integral part of the Swahili society, and they had the same religion. The Omans
finally conquered East Africa by capturing fort Jesus.
5. In my opinion, cultural contact has to be dealt with in a better manner to promote optimal
growth. Once a group of people see what another group of people have to offer, instead of
invading and conquering their land, procedures should be taken in order so that they can be taught
how to acquire the things they seek. With this put in place, more people will have the things they
may have seen in other countries, bridges would be built instead of destroyed in case they need
further aid in the future, and the various countries in the world can be allies instead of

Allowed To Vote
Scott Berry Mrs. Secker English I 1 February 2017 Should the voting Age be Lowered to 15?
Today our government is controlled by the people, so therefore we the people need to make sure
that that the people who are voting to alter the government are mature enough to make adult
decisions. Today s teenagers think they are entitled to everything that life has to offer them, and
this includes the right to vote. Why do grown individuals think it is a good idea to let our children,
our youth make decisions that could affect us all when they have not received their high school
diploma? Teenagers are simply not mature enough to make the decisions that come with the right to
vote. Some people argue that not all teens are immature and should be... Show more content on

Young teens argue that if they are given adult responsibilities, like paying taxes on certain
things, then they should be able to partake in government elections. A large group of people
have said that if teens are forced to pay taxes on the items they buy and the money that they earn
from their job then how is it fair that they can t vote to change something that directly affects
them. On average people from the ages of 15 18 pay an average of $9.7 billion in sales tax alone
(Top Ten Reasons to Lower the Voting Age). Young teens want to be able to alter the
government that they will be living in. They say during a local election most teens have grown
up or lived near that area and when they turn 18 most of them be on their way to college to start a
new life. Rebecca Tilsen once argued in front of a courtroom that if teens are old enough to live in
poverty, if they are old enough to be sick due to the poor healthcare system provided to them by the
government, that means that they are old enough to vote to change that (The Teen Brain: Still Under

Taking a Look at Pakeha
What interests me is what it means to be Pakeha without falling into the politics of blame, or of
guilt, or what Ghassan Hage (2000) has termed white and very worried about the nation subject (p.
10). HageКјs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many
applications. Being Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere
more clearly demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand
historian Michael King, Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand
(1991) and Being Pakeha Now (2004).
When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death,
not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said
that he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para.
8).
King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an
exceptional life story. Subtitled ʻReflections and Recollections of a White Nativeʼ, a term that
is reasonably dis comforting these days, the cover features a quotation in which King claims that
Pakeha New Zealanders who are committed to this land and its people are no less indigenous
than Maori , and his aim is to demonstrate how this might be the case (King, 2004, p. 1). One of
the points he makes, by way of an extended genealogy of family and childhood, is that Pakeha is a
relatively recently adopted term

Analysis Of The Film Dances With Wolves
The 1990 film Dances With Wolves directed by Kevin Costner covers a number of topics such as
the Civil War, westward expansion, and white Indian relations. Being set in the frontier during the
Civil War, the primary issue the film raises is the white cruelty towards Native Americans during
this time period. This film can be classified as a realistic historical fiction because it depicts the
humanity and morals of the SiouxIndians while, at the same time, showing how they were treated
by the white American soldiers.
Dances With Wolves starts out by introducing the main character, John Dunbar, as a soldier in the
Civil War. John is portrayed as a strong man because he refuses his foot to be amputated, and he
rides a horse out onto the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because he was dressed like an Indian, the soldiers treated him as such, beating and calling him
a traitor. When he did not return for a few days, the Indians knew something was wrong, and
they sent a search party. In the same way that John helped the Sioux fight the Pawnee, the Sioux
were now helping John fight the soldiers. The rescue attempt was successful and they all made it
back to the village. Although Dances With Wolves is not a historically accurate and true story of
the Civil War, it is a historical fiction that is based on many true facts. The film starts off with a
very unrealistic beginning. It is set in the Civil War, on a battlefield, and John Dunbar rides a
horse openly right past the opposing side without getting shot. This seems to be the only
unrealistic part of this film, however. For example, the Sioux Indians not being total savages was
true. White people did treat all Indians poorly, and they justified their actions by saying that all
Indians are savages. This film shows that in fact, not all Indians were cruel and bloodthirsty, the
Pawnee were the only mean Indians depicted. The Sioux are portrayed as mostly peaceful humans
with great moral standards. They only fight when they feel threatened, such as by the Pawnee tribe,
or the white soldiers that imprisoned Dances With Wolves (John Dunbar). Furthermore, the problem
of white men hunting buffalo was also based on true facts. The Indians did not feel that it was the

Examples Of Civilization In Huckleberry Finn
Civilization. A word we use to define the proper and advanced ways of which we work and act as
human beings. A word of which Huck Finn finds too confusing and can live and do without. He
believes that civilization is too restrictive and, instead, wants to live a free and joyful life as an
individualist. To Huck, civilizationmeans the end of his freedom. In the novel, The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, Huck rejects civilization because he does not want to be told what is right or
wrong. Huck finds civilization too confining and hypocritical. Huck and Jim s lives are both
similar in the way that they have no complete control over their own lives and suffer from this lack
of freedom. Huck suffers from the tyranny and abuse from his father, Pap, while Jim... Show more

afford to achieve its strategic goals and objectives. Usually, a company creates a Financial Plan

the timeframes involved. The Financial Planning activity involves the following tasks; * Assess the

Through research, you may be able to find badly managed companies, unsuccessful funds and other
threats to your financial strategy One of the key environmental elements driving the interest in, and
value of, rolling strategic plans is the abbreviated time horizons that healthcare leaders now face.
The condensed planning cycle is a result of many factors in the market, including increased
competitive pressures, heightened scrutiny by the public and the press, and the general high profile
status and challenges of the healthcare sector. Health care is consistently in the media headlights
and, according to polls, on the public s mind. It is viewed by many as both problematic and
emblematic a reflection of the high costs and diminishing access that increasingly frustrate and
perplex the country, collectively and individually. Consequently, calls to address the problem and
initiate change can be heard from all sides, including employer groups and political figures,
resulting in federal and state legislation and regulation and other high profile efforts to improve the
system. Onewell known example is Massachusetts decision to provide health insurance for all its
residents. Another is the recently announced rebasing initiative, in which the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services is recalibrating diagnosis related groups for the inpatient prospective
payment system. Dynamism in the DetailsThe painful reality of many strategic plans is that, once

Film Review of the King of Masks Essay
The King of Masks , directed by Wu Tianming, is a sentimental melodrama with many underlying
themes, one of which is the theme of love. The plot of the film, the morals that it teaches, and its
impact on the audience all revolve around love. The King of Masks centers around the old street
performer, Wang, played by Zhu Xu, who is desperately in search of a male successor to inherit
his secret art of face changing . Fate allows him to meet with Doggie, a young child whose role is
heartwarmingly played by the child actress Zhou Renying, who herself was sent away by her

Another instance of this can be seen when Wang willingly buys Doggie new clothes although he
himself was poor and going through hardships as shown by his modest attire and humble
riverboat home. When Doggie falls sick and Wang does not possess enough money to buy
medicine, he even sacrifices the family treasure which had been passed down to him through
generations in order to cure her. This all shows that Wang values Doggie s life and wellbeing
more than money and material possessions no matter how important they were to him. These
events foreshadow the significance of supporting each other through frugal times, even if it
includes self sacrifice. Doggie is shown to remunerate the old performer s benevolence later on
in the movie following Wu s use of foreshadowing. The film explores the subject of mutual need
which exists between the old man and the child. The old man needs someone in his life to cure
his loneliness and a heir to inherit his art whilst the child longs for a home and compassion
(Stack, 1999). Both of their needs are satisfied when their lives cross and they begin living
together in Wang s small riverboat home. Wang and Doggie s emotional bonds shown in the
initial half of the film seemed almost like that of a real grandfather and grandson, related by blood.

God Is Necessary For Human Existence
Manu Patil
Mr. Kadar
Honors English III, Period 3
2 November 2015
Since early times, humans have attempted addressing issues such as, our instinct to survive,
curiosity to know beyond themselves, fear of the unknown, pursuit of happiness, etc. Early
Mesopotamian societies attempted to answer questions such as Who are we?, Where are we?, How
did we get here? Many of those questions were driven by their instinct to survive, interaction with
the nature around, fear of the known and unknown threatening their existence and found solace in
God. God is necessary for human existence.
What is God? God is not some mystical being that is only accessible through religion, but rather a
concept essential for existence. According to Merriam Webster dictionary the God is a spirit or
being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of
people. Similar concept is echoed in various religions. Christianity, a monotheistic religion,
defines God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the
supreme being. whereas, Hinduism, a polytheistic religion, defines God as both the known and
unknown, the being as well as non being, reality as well as unreality and he is one, but also many.
They believe god manifests in innumerable forms and shapes. Yet, moral authority and all these
contradictions can all be found beyond religion in our daily lives. God, therefore, exists beyond
the realms religion as a higher being or power,

Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver
In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a
rainy day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser
and picks up a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting
about who gets the baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the
kitchen and begins grabbing the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are
pulling backwards. The story concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. This story s
theme of the selfish and aggressive nature of humansis prevalent throughout the text.

Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is
physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the
vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck
in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of
imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person.
Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance,
there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details
lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an
instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase,
put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man
looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but
when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation
happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and
going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure
that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the
fight. These few details make it clear how selfish

the design and style of the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century. There were also performers

Internal and external factors
Within travel and tourism inbound and domestic tourism are frequently changing, there are many
internal and external factors which have a major impact and contribute to these changes. In this
assignment I am going to analyse 3 internal and 3 external factors which affect the travel and
tourism industry.

Strength of the pound
Depending on how strong the UK pound is determines how well the country s economy is; if the
pound is strong this means the country is doing well and vice versa. However this also has an
effect on the number of people that visit the UK, a strong pound actually deters overseas visitors
due to them receiving fewer pounds when exchanging their own money as one UK pound is worth

Economic recession
A recession is a general slowdown in economic activity over a period of time which is longer than a
few months. During recessions many factors are affected such as; employment, investment
spending, household incomes, business profits, bankruptcies and the rise in unemployment rates.
Governments usually respond to recessions by increasing money supplies, increasing government
spending and decreasing taxes.
In 2008 the UK went into a recession, this had a major effect on the value and volume of inbound
and domestic tourism in the UK as visitor numbers fell during the year 2009 as a result of the
recession.
In 2007 the UK received 32.7 million visitors, this fell to 31.8 million in 2008 and fell further again
to 29.8 million by 2009. Tourists also began to spend fewer days in the UK during their visits

The Role Of Household Income With Multiple Aspects Of...
Measure of wealth such as income and assets are commonly considered to be objective assessments
of environmental circumstances, making direct contributions to happiness or life satisfaction.
Certainly, the alternation between and individual s income and life satisfaction is as high as .50 in
some countries. (Krueger, 2006). The relationship of household incomewith multiple aspects of
subjective well being was examined in a New Zealand telephone probability sample conducted in
2008. Consistent with previous research, household income had positive logarithmic associations
with subjective quality of life and happiness. The logarithmic function was steeper for quality of
life than for happiness, indicating that income is linked more... Show more content on

Despite the belief that more money and possessions would improve our life, evidence shows
that people with a strong financial goal orientation are less satisfied with their lives, less happy
and have more psychological problems. (Dittmar, 2009). Surveys asking people how happy they
are indicate that the average level of happiness has not increased over several decades, despite
large increases in income per capita. For example, in the United States, income per capita has
increase since 1950, yet the percentage of respondents who say they are very happy has not
increase, and the percentage who says they are not very happy has not declined significantly.
(Lee) Similar disconnects between happiness and income has been found in Japan, The United
Kingdom, and continental Europe. Two explanations are often offered. The first explanation is
that any additional happiness from more income results primarily from increasing our relative
income, but we can increase our relative income only by reducing the relative income of others,
which reduces their happiness. The second explanation is that the pursuit of money becomes
addictive and reduces the time available for family and friends, intellectual pursuits, exercise and
other activities that result in genuine happiness and, it is claimed, do not reduce the happiness of
others. Happiness and money are not linked. A person can be really rich and be totally unhappy.
Also a person can be really poor and be happy. Money can bring

Coma Berenices Myth
Coma Berenices is an unusual constellation with an even more unusual story to accompany it.
Most other constellations detail important myths, stories and legends from different cultures,
This one is in the sky because someone liked long hair enough to steal it from a temple. it was
first documented officially as a separate constellation in 1536. Before this, the stars in Coma
Berenices had been considered part of Leo, the tail. There were four queen Bernice s in Egypt,

The old man was lamenting to his son the fact that he had lost all his hair, which, in the days of
his youth, had been the envy of all the other young men. (And some women, although he was not
aware of that). The son, who had heard the story many times before, had turned his attention to
the night sky. As his father was going on and on about the color his hair had been, (a beautiful
golden blond), the son had an idea. Father he said, pointing up to the sky, do you see that cluster
of stars up there, just beyond the lion? The father studied the sky for a moment, then nodded.
The son continued, Does it not look like your hair did, in the days of your youth? The father
studied the sky again for a minute or two then nodded again. Well, the son continued, if the sky
shows your hair then you will not need to describe it any more, as it is forever immortalized in
the sky, your gift to humanity. The father turned to his son with tears in his eyes, and gave the lad
a giant hug, thanking him for giving him his hair back. There on the road, the father and son had a
tearful celebration of their own, albeit for different reasons. Unbeknownst to them, a traveling

Arthur Dimmesdale and John Proctor s Guilt and Sin Essay
Arthur Dimmesdale and John Proctor s Guilt and Sin
Guilt is something that weighs heavily on the human soul. It incorporates itself in our dreams, our
thoughts, and our actions.
Everywhere we turn, it stares us blankly in the face. While it is unbearable to suffer, guilt is an
emotion that reaffirms our humanity.
Repentance of a particular guilt, being spiritual, physical or both, is evidence that we are beyond
the baseness of our animal tendencies.
This fact has not gone unnoticed to the many great figures of literature. They have explored the
sentiments of guilt and repentance by exploiting the conscience of flawed characters. In The Scarlet
Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne presented to the world Reverend Arthur
Dimmesdale, a man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this penance was not enough. The only way he could truly out the pestilence that had
been eating away his soul was to publicly proclaim his guilt. To him, nothing short of a total change
of dynasty and moral code in that interior kingdom was adequate to account for the impulses now
communicated. (Hawthorne
205). When he acknowledged Pearl as his own during the Election Day speech, he shone a little
light into the darkness of his guilt. Sadly, even in this moment of revelation, the sin that had
become his cross for seven long years finally ended his life. While pain and shame had been merely
earthly penances, death was the final judge.
Unlike Dimmesdale s internal suffering, John Proctor was martyred as a result of vengeance. Abigail
Williams, his young lover, used the accusation of witchcraftto get rid of Elizabeth Proctor, the only
person keeping her from Proctor s love. Although she never confessed her intentions, they were
quite clear: Oh, John, I will make such a wife when the world is white again! You will be amazed
to see me every day, a light of heaven in your house... (Miller 150). Even before
Elizabeth was dead, Abigail was making plans for their future together. Their secret liaison was
something that forever bound their fates together. As the Salem Witch Trials reached a crescendo

Nellis Range Complex Case Study
Somewhere in the remote Nevada desert is a chunk of land some six miles wide north to south and
ten miles east to west. On that land is located a paradox: A secret base that everyone knows about.
Area 51 is a parcel of land in the Nellis Range Complex located about 30 miles south of the town of

It is a base was so secret that even though it had been there over forty years it wasn t until 1994 that

Over that last decade Area 51 has also come to be associated with UFO s. There were stories that

Possession And Use Of Marijuana
Possession and use of cannabis, also commonly known as marijuana, is considered illegal. For
years marijuana has been an illegal drug in most countries. In today s world a few countries have
legalized cannabis while others are still progressing toward it. In particular, small amount of
marijuana have been allowed in places such as Europe, North America and South America. In the
United States in particular, states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the usage of
marijuana for medical/recreational purposes. On the other hand, numerous penalties are enforced
pertaining the use or possession of cannabiswhere it is not legal. The chance of the penalties being
small are seldom; offenders often receive severe punishments. Possession of small quantities of
marijuana is not punished the same way as possession of large quantities of other illegal narcotics.
In this essay, there will be an in depth argument on the reasons why cannabis should be legalized,
and why it should not.
Firstly, cannabis should be legal and decriminalized since it is used for medication. Its legalization
means better and higher quality health standards. For example, Sativex is a recent marijuana
derived treatment that has been discovered to cure Multiple Sclerosis (Kmietowicz 89). The drug
has been used in the United Kingdom to treat patients, and it has been found to produce effective
results. Banning marijuana would be a disadvantage to people who suffer from diseases that use

The Last Of The Mohicans Response

Written in 1826 and directed in 1915 respectively, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore
Cooper and The Birth of a Nation by D.W. Griffith were foundational in influencing both the
American novel and film industry. Consequently, they are also two of the most controversial texts
in American history as they epitomize racism and the desire for an all white society. Cooper s
vision of an emerging American national character/identity is similar to Griffith s obvious wish
for a white supremacist paradise in the sense that both men created world s in which whiteness is

Analysis Of Kara Walker And Larry Walker
Kara Walker was born to Gwen and Larry Walker on the 26th of November, 1969. They, at the
time of Kara s birth, lived in Stockington, California with their two children Dana and Larry Jr.
Gwen worked as an administrative assistant and Larry was a professor of arts at the University
of the Pacific in Stockington; he taught a wide variety of studio classes while he worked there
and often brought his projects home with him. Kara and her siblings all remember sitting upon
his lap while he worked; Kara in particular has said in an interview with her father that You

delivered artworks to various exhibits. Kara s life changed drastically when she was thirteen
years old. In 1983 her father accepted the position as Chair of the Department of Art at Georgia

Abu Ghraib Scandal
The war in Iraq began in March of 2003. During this war personnel of the United States Army and
the Central Intelligence Agency committed a chain of human rights violations. This was against
prisoners in the Abu Ghraib Prison, which was in Iraq. These violations included torture, sodomy,
sexual and physical abuse, rape, and murder. The abuse captured public attention and was

Meanwhile, the soldiers received support from some conservative media within the United States.
The administration of George W. Bush was not loyal. They attempted to portray the abuse as

Organizational Strategy For A Successful Business
A successful business is made up of various parts so it is imperative that managers develop the
right mix of objectives and personnel if they want to have a fighting chance to survive in today s
global economy. An up and coming business starts with strategic, operational and tactical plans
developed by top executives and other managers. These plans define what the company will
accomplish and how they are going to achieve it. Effective leaders know a plan is only as strong
as the people they have to do the work. Bosses cannot be the worker, front line supervisor and
senior managementall at once. They have to rely on their workforce to get the job done. Managers
establish a business plan and then, they turn their focus on the resources required to realize their
goals. The most critical resource is their labor force. Organizational strategy is only effective if
managers develop a human resourcesplan that specifies the appropriate manpower needed to run an
effective business.
An organizational plan defines the purpose of a company, but a business is lifeless without its
people. In order to hire, train, and promote a quality talent pool, managers in a large firm will turn
to a Human Resource manager or personnel manager to find potential candidates (Plunkett, Allen
Attner, 2013). Just like most functions within an organization, there is a process for staffing that is
made up of eight elements. The eight elements of the staffing process include human resource

His philosophy of Christianity was considered blasphemous, but he was never charged with such a
crime. However, he did express his critical opinions of the Church in both essay and poetic form.
To understand what is being said in such poems as THE GARDEN OF LOVE and The Little
Vagabond one must consider the poet s religious, or shall I say spiritual, position. William Blake
considered himself to be a monistic Gnostic. That is, he believed what saved a person s soul was
not faith but knowledge. Faith, he felt, was a term that was abused by those who thought spending
every Sunday in a church would grant them eternal salvation regardless of what actions they
exhibited outside the walls of the church. Church ceremonies were also dry, emotionless and
meaningless, according to Blake. Church was evil, as Blake would have put it.
Knowledge was cherished by Blake. He argued that through knowledge one can truly understand
Christ, and when this understanding is reached one can then begin to become Christ. Christ was
the pinnacle of what a human should strive to be. God and Christ were placed on the same level,
and God was not a clockmaker or some supreme being placed outside of human capacity; rather,
Blake argued that God is something that resides in all of humanity. Blake coined this Divine
Humanity , the potential for all humanity to come full circle and be humanly divine; this is
possible because God and Jesus are both living inside of us from

The Dutch Primacy In The Seventeenth Century
Shortly after wresting its independence from Habsburg Spain, the Dutch Republic quickly ascended
to primacy among European powers. By the beginning of the seventeenth century, the Dutch
Republic had overcome the limitations of its size and available ecological resources through its
innovative financial and commercial institutions and was enjoying a hundred years of commercial
dominance. By all measures, the Dutch Republicwas positioned to remain atop Europefor the
foreseeable future, but by the end of the seventeenth century, domestic production and overseas
dominance was waning. A series of global conjunctures, including several naval wars and an
invasion, interrupted the Dutch Republic s rapid economic progress long enough for Britain to
usurp hegemony. Like Spain before it, the Dutch moment atop the... Show more content on

Fiscal Policy, Crowding out, Supply-side, Economics
Economics Assignment #2
Question I. Fiscal Policy and the Crowding Out Effect.
(a) What is the essence of the accounting identity (the so called saving investment identity) that the
two distinguished professors refer to?
Saving investment identity is a concept in National Income accounting that states that the amount
saved (S) in an economy is equal to the amount invested (I). It is an equilibrium expressed in terms
of supply (S), and demand (I), for lending (loan able funds). Sp (Private Saving) + Sg or (T G)
(Government Saving or Budget Balance) = I.
The authors are assuming full employment, where S=I.
The saving identity where S=I holds true by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, they are assuming the economy is at full employment or full potential when in fact, we are
below full employment. Therefore the savings investment identity does not prove anything about
the effectiveness of fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is a completely valid and effective method to
expand the economy and move towards full employment. Fiscal policy can raise GDP, create
jobs, increase income, etc... which is very beneficial. How can these professors be so ignorant of
the full picture? They are not taking all the proper details into account it s very surprising.
Again, we are in a recession, this allows GDP to rise. An increase in G, increases GDP, which
increases S. Therefore the actual degree at which interest rates rise and investments fall is not in
line with what the professors think. They re off. They have not accounted for the rise in GDP and
have mistakenly assumed full employment and 100% crowding out effect when this is clearly not
the case in a recession.
An example from the text that illustrates the flaw in their argument:
In the case of [government] infrastructure spending, MPKf rises, so investment increases. Saving
shifts and investment shifts. With upward shifts in both saving and investment, the new
equilibrium is one with a

The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain
The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not
due to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and
phrases such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had
actually read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses
necessary racismin order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray
Twains message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one raceover
another. What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting
of the novel (Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were
common and use of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time
when blacks were not treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or
emotions. For instance, Jim is initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered
Miss Watson property that was about to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist
attitudes of the South are were most obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he
relates to the runaway slave, Jim. He plays tricks on Jim and uses dialogue that makes him appear
foolish or perhaps to make Jim painfully aware of his own belittlement. During their entire journey
Huck and Jim become closer. They achieved a state

The Lemon Tree Summary
The Lemon Tree explores the Israeli Palestinian conflict, beginning in 1917 with the Balfor
Declaration and British rule in Palestine through 2005, shortly before the book was published. It
considers both the international conflicts and the personal conflicts, specifically from the point of
view of an Arab, Bashir, and a Jew, Dalia who lived through the struggle. In doing so, Tolan
typically discusses the important events multiple times from multiple perspectives in order to give
readers a full picture. Specifically, some major events explored include the Great Arab Rebellion,
the Israeli War for Independence or Nakba, international events, the Six Day War, and both
intifadas. Tolan explains both their personal effects for Bashir and Dalia and their national, and
sometimes international, effects in the wider world.
IIIAnalytical Summary How can the residents of an area that has been in turmoil for the past
century ever move past the unforgivable actions of the others? While Tolan does not offer a
solution for the area currently known as Israel Palestine, he is attempting to increase his audience s
understanding of the events contributing to the complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Tolan ends the book, Dalia supports a two state solution, with boarders similar to before
the Six Day War. Bashir, on the other hand, believes strongly in the right of return, saying that all
Palestinian people had the right to return to their homes from before the Nakba (261). His many
times in jail and in exile in Lebanon did not change this from even their first discussion about it.
No matter what violence happened, as far as readers are aware, they never come to a conclusion
despite their deep friendship. This mirrors the greater world s struggle, seen at the Oslo Accords
and the Camp David Accords (224 239). Key pieces of land or principles like the right of return

how he is obsessed with what happens after dying. This shows us that while thinking of death,

quote hints us about how responsible Miles will be of Alaska s death since he will always think
of the fact she is dead and of what may have happened to her after it.

We Don t Think About Future Generations
Because we don t think about future generations, they will never forget us (Tikkanen, 2011). These
are the types of thoughts that have led Americans and other nations to encourage their citizens to
Go Green in an effort to aid the Earth in its recovery from modern human desecration. Going Green
means to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and
ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environmentand sustain
its natural resources for current and future generations (Going Green 2015). Today, people have
developed electric cars, solar powered electronics and panels, fabric grocery bags, and other
items, all in an attempt to discontinue using the harmful alternatives people have been using
over the years that has led to the weak environmental state. The fact is that humans are a force of
nature and no matter how environmentally safe a product is presented as being, there will
always be drawbacks and therefore Going Green will always be just as harmful as it is helpful
and will not be practical for most working Americans. The problem for most people is that Going
Green is not cost efficient, and most working families are unable to afford making the efforts. As
of September 2015, there were over thirty models of electric cars. The world s top selling highway
capable electric carwas the Nissan Leaf, released in December 2010 (Schaal, 2015). The fact that

Agricultural Subsidy Programs And The United States
Agricultural Problem Solving:
Are Farm Subsidies Working in the United States?
Christopher J. May
Baker College Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the history and current state of agricultural
subsidy programs in the United States. The original intent of these programs are discussed and
compared to the current use and distribution of federal resources to identify inefficiencies and
potential areas for improvements. In addition to the financial and economic effects of agricultural
subsidies, the factors of social welfare and impact on consumers nutrition and health are discussed
along with efficiency improvements that could better allocate taxpayer dollars to farms in need and
crops that contribute more to social welfare and the health of society as a whole. Agricultural
Problem Solving:
Are Farm Subsidies Working in the United States?
Introduction
Beginning in the 1930s, agricultural subsidy programs were established in the United States to
address the issues of inelastic supply and demand of the agriculture market along with the nature of
the industry that faces uncertain performance in terms of production and demand, which can vary
greatly from year to year (Urry, 2015). Through several reiterations of government policy
surrounding these subsidy payments, the majority of direct payments are now being received by
large, for profit farming companies (Urry, 2015), further incentivizing them to mass produce crops
easily grown and

Essay on Social Theorists
Classical Social Theorists
When trying to compare three social theorists to each other, you must first try to understand the
intricacies that are entangled within each theory itself. Theorists, by nature, create theories that can
be debated from all angles but must be a tight fit in order to be considered applicable to society.
Theology as a single entity is constructed from deep intellectual thought. When social theorist
begin to develop there theoretical perspectives, they seem to have an overwhelming grasp on the
concepts they try to convey to us. Since it is extremely difficult to have such a complete strong
hold on social issues such as family, politics and economics, it is important to know and understand
the basic principles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He said that competition forces people to establish ties with one another in a web of affiliation,
and in groups, conflict increases the degree of social solidarity within each group and at the same
time, decreases the level of tolerance for deviance.
Aside from seeing conflict as a social form, Simmel also saw money as a social form. Simmel s
Philosophy of Money is a stab at exposing how the forms of interaction affect the basic nature of
social relations independently of their specific content.
Simmel s major contribution to sociology resides in his concern with the basic forms of interaction.
Unlike Mead and Pareto, Simmel is hard to follow because he jumps from topic to topic, from the
micro to the macro and from the historical past to contemporary situations in his time. But in the
end, his goal is similar to all other theorists: to explain many empirical events with a few highly
abstract models and principles. (Turner P. 287)
Although he rejected many of the points of positivist doctrines, Vilfredo Pareto was somewhat of a
positivist whose major contribution to sociology was his Circulation of Elites conspiracy theory
documented in The Rise and Fall of the Elites. Also known as the Father of Mathematics, Pareto
thought that economics limited itself to a single aspect of human action and therefore, devoted his
studies to social theory. Pareto also thought that human affairs were largely guided by non logical,
non traditional actions,

Analysis Of Barbara Gowdy s Frankenstein And The...
Emotional thinking is the systematic response in the brain that may influence false alarms when it
comes to specific scenarios. These alarms trigger one s emotional state into feelings such as
excitement, misery, and stress. Emotional people are stereotypically known to overanalyze
situations and create conflict with the reality of the situation. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, one
can witness that the two central characters have difficulty when it comes to their thought processes
of one another. Victor Frankenstein, an aspired inventor of the famous Creature, must come to
terms with the responsibility of his creation. In an similar manner, the Creature uses his emotions to
cause misery, and pain to his enemy, Victor. Comparatively, in

An example of this is when the Creature is first introduced to Victor s younger brother, William, in
the fields where the Creature was attempting to seek refuge. The Creature attempts to stop the boy
with hopes of befriending him, when instead, the boy screams at the Creature, telling him he was
the son of a Frankenstein. This triggers the Creature, recognizing the name an becoming enraged.
He proceeds to kill the boy, with hopes this death will carry despair to [Frankenstein], and a
thousand other miseries shall torment and destroy him, (Shelley 155). These emotions internalized
in the Creature cause him to commit heinous acts in order to ruin the life of his nemesis. The
negativity of the Creature demonstrates an even further rise in his emotions, giving way to a
tension between the characters that is furthered as the text proceeds. Likewise, Victor Frankenstein
allows his emotional senses to give way to a hatred of the Creature without even giving the
Creature a chance. After seeing the hideous creation made by his own hands, Victor refrains from
taking responsibility of the actions of the Creature, even when his conscious tells him it is his duty
to. On the night of the creation, Victor recalls that the creature, who he emotionally describes as a
monster, held up the curtain of the bed ... one hand stretched out, seemingly to detain [Victor], but

Japanese American Interracial Marriage
Shutong liu
Soc 180 For Asian cultures, dating outside of one s race has traditionally been culturally
controversial. However, interracial relationships amongst Asian Americans have been increasingly
popular, especially in areas of racial diversity with interracial marriage rates becoming higher
through later generations (Kitano et al. 1984, 189). What exactly has been driving this growing
trend for Asians to marry outside of their racial and ethnic groups? By observing the characteristics
of such relationships, we can understand better this ongoing cultural shift and how it occurs. A U.S.
Census in 2000 found that interracial marriage rates were 9 percent for African Americans, about 39
percent for Hispanics, 56 percent for American Indians, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fujino, a professor of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara has
found that Asians who do engage in outer marriage usually marry other Asians of other ethnic
groups or White Americans (1997, 823). They may not be completely open to dating outside but
the Asian American relationship preference is still immature in its research and cannot be fully
predicted. More research on that would be needed. However, we have observed factors that
suggest strong evidence for the rising trend of outside marriage for Asians. The exposure of racial
diversity here in America has brought groups physically closer, giving them a higher likelihood of
interaction and potential dating and marriage. In addition, sentiments have been overall accepting
of these diverse relationships, making it easier for interracial and interethnic couples to be with each

  • 2. Summary Of Robert Fischell Speech Robert Fischell is an inventor of medical devices. His goal is to educate the audience with an informative speech about his three inventions that he believes can have a significant positive effect on millions of people. The first invention he describes consists of a device implanted into a patient to detect acute myocardial infection (AMI). The second inventionis a device that helps eliminate migraineheadaches. The third invention details the best way to treat epilepsy through a responsive electrical treatment. Robert Fischell delivered the speech in acceptance of his 2005 TEDaward in an official conference. His credibility cannot be doubted as he is the inventor of other well known medical devices such as, the rechargeable pacemaker, the insulin pump, and a pre cursor to GPS. The speaker s fascinating inventive capability, and determination to make the world a better place, adds to his credibility. The TED conference consisted of approximately a thousand people from different fields such as technology, design, business, science, entertainment, as well as the non profit world. The audience is not only limited to the live audience as millions of people can access the 26:46 minute speech through the internet and mass media. The speaker used a hook effectively to draw the audience into the speech. He starts by noting that the speech is aimed at discussing the invention that can have an impact on ten to a hundred million people. With such a remarkable statement, everyone would be interested to know the details of his inventions. At the same time, he mentions his previous inventions, stents, and insulin pumps for the diabetic, which he discussed in the prior film. This creates trust among the audience about the speaker s credibility. The speech s opening fully establishes the intention of the presentation. Speech Content and Structure The presentation was entirely focused on the primary objective of the speech and uses a problem and solution technique. Fischell s argument relates to how disease occurs, and how his inventions would contribute towards solving the problem. For instance, Fischell states that a migraine headache is an occurrence similar to an electrical impulse. His equipment would create a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his early age, Mr. Buffet started working in his grandfather s grocery store. He purchased his first stock at age 11, which he ended up making a five dollar profit on this investment. Its sale has grown from a few thousand dollars to more than $107 billion. In the late 1970, it was Mr. Buffett s decision to expand into insurance operations. Today, the company s insurance operation is a major source of capital for Berkshire Hathaway s other investments. When Buffett made a decision in expanding into insurance, the insurance industry was a booming business. He always made sure Berkshire s insurance companies maintained capital strength at exceptionally high levels. This strength differentiated Berkshire s insurance companies from their competitors. Again this proves his market acumen and visionary ability which helped to see future trend and understand business well ahead of other rivals. After Warren Buffettconverted Berkshire Hathaway from a textile to an insurance company, he started doing strategic acquisition. Initially he looked for reinsurance companies in the United States that had sound management, but were in need of capital to expand. In today s economic uncertainties, Buffett s saying will remain a guiding principal for all investors: Be fearful when others are greedy; be greedy when others are scared for their capital . Mr. Buffett started expanding Berkshire Hathaway s business into life, accident and health reinsurers. He did strategic investments and acquisition in internationally based property and casualty reinsurers. In the late 19th century, when the financial market took a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did Portuguese Affect The Development Of East African... 1. International trade with the Indian Ocean commercial network affected the people of East Africa in both positive and negative ways. It caused the economy to grow because during this period the Indian Ocean was a great way to trade goods from the Red Sea to China, trade become very prominent because many port cities grew to rely on it. On the other hand, the trading impacted negatively because the wealth that was acquired by the East Africans gained attention from immigrants all over, which caused the Portuguese to conquer the coast. 2. Muslim traders introduced Islam to East Africa and they helped the development of Swahili societies. The Portuguese first traded with East Africa and once they were drawn in by the fortune they saw, the conquered the coast. Portuguese invaded, defeated local rulers, and took control of Zanzibar, they invaded and conquered Kilwa and Mombasa, and they built Fort Jesus in Mombasa to guard th port of Mombasa. In addition to that, the brought Christianity and brutal rules. In conclusion, the Portuguese affected the growth and development of East Africa in a negative way. 4. The Portuguese imperialism was more forceful and uninvited compared to the Omani imperialism, which was more invited and wanted. Since the Swahili people didn t like the Portuguese so they wanted the the Omans to come and defeat the Portuguese since they were loyal trading partners, a integral part of the Swahili society, and they had the same religion. The Omans finally conquered East Africa by capturing fort Jesus. 5. In my opinion, cultural contact has to be dealt with in a better manner to promote optimal growth. Once a group of people see what another group of people have to offer, instead of invading and conquering their land, procedures should be taken in order so that they can be taught how to acquire the things they seek. With this put in place, more people will have the things they may have seen in other countries, bridges would be built instead of destroyed in case they need further aid in the future, and the various countries in the world can be allies instead of ... Today our government is controlled by the people, so therefore we the people need to make sure that that the people who are voting to alter the government are mature enough to make adult decisions. Today s teenagers think they are entitled to everything that life has to offer them, and this includes the right to vote. Why do grown individuals think it is a good idea to let our children, our youth make decisions that could affect us all when they have not received their high school diploma? Young teens argue that if they are given adult responsibilities, like paying taxes on certain things, then they should be able to partake in government elections. A large group of people have said that if teens are forced to pay taxes on the items they buy and the money that they earn from their job then how is it fair that they can t vote to change something that directly affects them. On average people from the ages of 15 18 pay an average of $9.7 billion in sales tax alone (Top Ten Reasons to Lower the Voting Age). Young teens want to be able to alter the government that they will be living in. They say during a local election most teens have grown up or lived near that area and when they turn 18 most of them be on their way to college to start a new life. Rebecca Tilsen once argued in front of a courtroom that if teens are old enough to live in poverty, if they are old enough to be sick due to the poor healthcare system provided to them by the government, that means that they are old enough to vote to change that (The Teen Brain: Still Under ... • 9. Taking a Look at Pakeha What interests me is what it means to be Pakeha without falling into the politics of blame, or of guilt, or what Ghassan Hage (2000) has termed white and very worried about the nation subject (p. 10). HageКјs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many applications. Being Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere more clearly demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand historian Michael King, Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand (1991) and Being Pakeha Now (2004). When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death, not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said that he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para. 8). King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an exceptional life story. Subtitled К»Reflections and Recollections of a White NativeКј, a term that is reasonably dis comforting these days, the cover features a quotation in which King claims that Pakeha New Zealanders who are committed to this land and its people are no less indigenous than Maori , and his aim is to demonstrate how this might be the case (King, 2004, p. 1). One of the points he makes, by way of an extended genealogy of family and childhood, is that Pakeha is a relatively recently adopted term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Film Dances With Wolves The 1990 film Dances With Wolves directed by Kevin Costner covers a number of topics such as the Civil War, westward expansion, and white Indian relations. Being set in the frontier during the Civil War, the primary issue the film raises is the white cruelty towards Native Americans during this time period. This film can be classified as a realistic historical fiction because it depicts the humanity and morals of the SiouxIndians while, at the same time, showing how they were treated by the white American soldiers. In the same way that John helped the Sioux fight the Pawnee, the Sioux were now helping John fight the soldiers. The rescue attempt was successful and they all made it back to the village. Although Dances With Wolves is not a historically accurate and true story of the Civil War, it is a historical fiction that is based on many true facts. The film starts off with a very unrealistic beginning. It is set in the Civil War, on a battlefield, and John Dunbar rides a horse openly right past the opposing side without getting shot. This seems to be the only unrealistic part of this film, however. For example, the Sioux Indians not being total savages was true. White people did treat all Indians poorly, and they justified their actions by saying that all Indians are savages. This film shows that in fact, not all Indians were cruel and bloodthirsty, the Pawnee were the only mean Indians depicted. The Sioux are portrayed as mostly peaceful humans with great moral standards. They only fight when they feel threatened, such as by the Pawnee tribe, or the white soldiers that imprisoned Dances With Wolves (John Dunbar). Furthermore, the problem of white men hunting buffalo was also based on true facts. The Indians did not feel that it was the white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This all shows that Wang values Doggie s life and wellbeing more than money and material possessions no matter how important they were to him. God Is Necessary For Human Existence Manu Patil Mr. Kadar Honors English III, Period 3 2 November 2015 Since early times, humans have attempted addressing issues such as, our instinct to survive, curiosity to know beyond themselves, fear of the unknown, pursuit of happiness, etc. Early Mesopotamian societies attempted to answer questions such as Who are we?, Where are we?, How did we get here? Many of those questions were driven by their instinct to survive, interaction with the nature around, fear of the known and unknown threatening their existence and found solace in God. God is necessary for human existence. What is God? God is not some mystical being that is only accessible through religion, but rather a concept essential for existence. According to Merriam Webster dictionary the God is a spirit or being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of people. Similar concept is echoed in various religions. Christianity, a monotheistic religion, defines God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being. whereas, Hinduism, a polytheistic religion, defines God as both the known and unknown, the being as well as non being, reality as well as unreality and he is one, but also many. They believe god manifests in innumerable forms and shapes. Yet, moral authority and all these contradictions can all be found beyond religion in our daily lives. Having the vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person. Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. (Dittmar, 2009). Surveys asking people how happy they are indicate that the average level of happiness has not increased over several decades, despite large increases in income per capita. For example, in the United States, income per capita has increase since 1950, yet the percentage of respondents who say they are very happy has not increase, and the percentage who says they are not very happy has not declined significantly. (Lee) Similar disconnects between happiness and income has been found in Japan, The United Kingdom, and continental Europe. Two explanations are often offered. The first explanation is that any additional happiness from more income results primarily from increasing our relative income, but we can increase our relative income only by reducing the relative income of others, which reduces their happiness. The second explanation is that the pursuit of money becomes addictive and reduces the time available for family and friends, intellectual pursuits, exercise and other activities that result in genuine happiness and, it is claimed, do not reduce the happiness of others. • 39. Organizational Strategy For A Successful Business A successful business is made up of various parts so it is imperative that managers develop the right mix of objectives and personnel if they want to have a fighting chance to survive in today s global economy. An up and coming business starts with strategic, operational and tactical plans developed by top executives and other managers. These plans define what the company will accomplish and how they are going to achieve it. Effective leaders know a plan is only as strong as the people they have to do the work. Bosses cannot be the worker, front line supervisor and senior managementall at once. They have to rely on their workforce to get the job done. Managers establish a business plan and then, they turn their focus on the resources required to realize their goals. The most critical resource is their labor force. Organizational strategy is only effective if managers develop a human resourcesplan that specifies the appropriate manpower needed to run an effective business. An organizational plan defines the purpose of a company, but a business is lifeless without its people. In order to hire, train, and promote a quality talent pool, managers in a large firm will turn to a Human Resource manager or personnel manager to find potential candidates (Plunkett, Allen Attner, 2013). His philosophy of Christianity was considered blasphemous, but he was never charged with such a crime. However, he did express his critical opinions of the Church in both essay and poetic form. To understand what is being said in such poems as THE GARDEN OF LOVE and The Little Vagabond one must consider the poet s religious, or shall I say spiritual, position. William Blake considered himself to be a monistic Gnostic. That is, he believed what saved a person s soul was not faith but knowledge. Faith, he felt, was a term that was abused by those who thought spending every Sunday in a church would grant them eternal salvation regardless of what actions they exhibited outside the walls of the church. Church ceremonies were also dry, emotionless and meaningless, according to Blake. Church was evil, as Blake would have put it. Knowledge was cherished by Blake. He argued that through knowledge one can truly understand Christ, and when this understanding is reached one can then begin to become Christ. Christ was the pinnacle of what a human should strive to be. God and Christ were placed on the same level, and God was not a clockmaker or some supreme being placed outside of human capacity; rather, Blake argued that God is something that resides in all of humanity. It is an equilibrium expressed in terms of supply (S), and demand (I), for lending (loan able funds). Sp (Private Saving) + Sg or (T G) (Government Saving or Budget Balance) = I. Therefore the savings investment identity does not prove anything about the effectiveness of fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is a completely valid and effective method to expand the economy and move towards full employment. Fiscal policy can raise GDP, create jobs, increase income, etc... which is very beneficial. How can these professors be so ignorant of the full picture? They are not taking all the proper details into account it s very surprising. Again, we are in a recession, this allows GDP to rise. An increase in G, increases GDP, which increases S. Therefore the actual degree at which interest rates rise and investments fall is not in line with what the professors think. They re off. Simmel s Philosophy of Money is a stab at exposing how the forms of interaction affect the basic nature of social relations independently of their specific content. Simmel s major contribution to sociology resides in his concern with the basic forms of interaction. Unlike Mead and Pareto, Simmel is hard to follow because he jumps from topic to topic, from the micro to the macro and from the historical past to contemporary situations in his time.
