High Technology Manufacturing Firm Help Relocate Their...
In the early nineties I was recruited by a high technology manufacturing firm to help relocate their
operations from Southern California to their new home in Southern Oregon. The owner of the
company had a young son that was approaching school age and he and his wife didn t want the
child growing up in an environment they believed was deteriorating due to population growth,
gang violence, and the high cost of living. I was involved in the setup of manufacturing equipment
and inventory on the Oregon side, and after a couple of weeks we were in a position where the
company could begin production and start fulfilling order commitments. The position I held was
temporary and upon completion of the move I expected I would make my departure,... Show more

I was given more responsibilities to include company travel to purchase new equipment, the
training of new employees, and the development of new materials for organizations such as
Boeing, NASA and JPL. The company was small and close knit and we all knew each other s
family members. The owner of the company was very generous and we all received handsome
Christmas bonuses dependent on company performance. It also wasn t uncommon to open your
pay envelope during the year to find an additional bonus check.
During the holidays my wife and I would attend 5 6 holiday social functions. I remember at one of
these functions explaining to a guest who worked for the Harry and David Corporation that I
worked for a small company. She told me that that could be a good thing or a bad thing. I assured
her it was a good thing, and I remember thinking at the time, how could it be a bad thing? I didn t
have too long to wait before I would be presented with an example.
The owner of the company s son was getting older and he was very involved in his son s
activities. He truly was a wonderful father. He also began to spend more and more time
developing a vineyard on his property and became involved in a lengthy litigation over an
easement on this property which took its toll on his health which culminated in a cardiac event in
his early 50 s. The owner recovered and via some small lifestyle changes was expected to live to
full life

Advantages And Disadvantages Of SQL Databases
Sharing one database for amongst multiple applications has some serious disadvantages:
We can improve db i/o by using following method.
The more applications use the same database, the more likely it is that you hit performance
bottlenecks and that you can t easily scale the load as desired. SQL Databases don t really scale.
You can buy bigger machines but they do not scale well in clusters!
Maintenance and development costs can increase: Development is harder if an application needs to
use database structures which aren t suited for the task at hand but have to be used as they are
already present. It s also likely that adjustments of one application will have side effects on other
applications ( why is there such an unecessary trigger??! / We... Show more content on

Using a uniform extent size for all segments in a tablespace eliminates free space fragmentation
and encourages high performance. However, this requires grouping segments by extent size to
balance the number of extents per segment, leading to wasted space from excessive extent sizes.
Extent sizes of 128 KB for small tables, 1 MB for large feature classes, and 128 MB for large
rasters are reasonable, though you can customize these values based on your own environment and
research.
Separate read only data from writable data
If a tablespace contains entirely read only data, you can put the tablespace explicityly in read
only mode, explicitly. This reduces the volume of data that you need to back up regularly. Read
only data files are also excellent candidates for storage on redundant array of independent disks
(RAID) 5 arrays because they will benefit from striping during read access and will not decrease
array performance with excessive write activity.
Use multiple disks or arrays to store files
Important Oracle files, such as control files, online redo logs, and archived redo logs, should be
multiplexed, or mirrored, by the Oracle software to provide maximum

Social And Economic Changes Outline Of The French Revolution
Social and Economic Changes Outline
Adam Akel, Period 5, 10/31/17

Social
Majority of people benefited from the reforms set in place by Napoleon, this is due to the fact
that under his law everyone was applicable for the same punishment is they did the same crime as
someone in the lower classes, however those that were left out of Napoleon s new fair laws were
sadly, women
The rights that women gained throughout the French Revolution began fading with Napoleon s
attitude towards women was shown through his social policies
They had to follow their husband s orders and they couldn t make legal contracts, even divorce
became more circumstantial for women than for men
These acts agreed with other European Leaders which made it, at the time of course, ok to do
Besides radical revolutionaries not many supported women s rights, most believed in the rule of the
husband being appropriate in a traditional family structure (said to be the foundation of society)
They had less rights with Napoleon but the same as everyone else in Europe
Economic
Napoleon tried to address France s financial problems, even the revolutionary governments saw how
the awful system for taxing led to such great economic problems
Tax farmers were the main way that taxes were collected in France, tax farmers are people that buy
this job to collect taxes but instead of giving the taxes to the government they keep much of it for
themselves, therefore nobody really liked these workers

The Alternative Food Movement In North America
The alternative food movement in North America, manifesting largely through farmers markets,
encourages people to buy local, eat organic, and to support local farmers, however these spaces
are rarely reflective of the diverse population of farmers and buyers in the city (Gibb Wittman,
2013). Moving from a personal to a political narrative, localisation is presented as the way to
address social injustices and environmental degradation, working against our current destructive
global agri food system (Allen 2004,2010). Advocating for individuals to buy local organic food is
seen as voting for healthier more authentic lives while making positive social and environmental
change (Alkon Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are
viewed interchangeably by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration
of the word justice into their webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison,
Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that the conflation of local foodas just by alternative food
movements in North America reinforces racial inequities and excludes those most harmed by the
current food system, particularly low income communities and communities of color. As such, this
paper proposes the concept of reflexive localism as proposed by DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman (2011)
as an approach to address this process of exclusion.
Alternative food movements that promote localisation of food risk re enforcing racial

King Lear And A Thousand Acres Comparison
The tone and themes in Shakespeare s King Lear and Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres are the
same. In fact, the only difference at the heart of the two versions of this story of familial strife is
perspective. In Shakespeare s King Lear the titular character s youngest daughter, Cordelia, truly
loves her father. Her loyalty to him represents truth and compassion in a story rife with deception
and betrayal. In A Thousand Acres, farmer Larry Cook s youngest daughter Caroline loves her
father just as deeply as Cordelia does Lear. The difference between these two characters is that
Caroline lives in ignorance of her father s true colors. Caroline stands for justice and truth as a
successful lawyer and loyal daughter, but the shifted perspective of A Thousand Acres shows that
she is more in the dark than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the lead up to Lear and Larry s famous battle with the elements the daughters treatment of him is
portrayed in different lights. Ginny is shown taking part in Rose s bitterness against their father
when they are folding laundry after family dinner, but she still treats him with kindness and
sympathy. Although the Cook daughters treatment of their father is dismissive, just like Regan
and Goneril s treatment of Lear, their love or loyalty for him is still evident beneath that slight
disrespect. Regan and Goneril, however are only shown to be selfish and malicious in their
actions against their father. If the actions of Lear as a father were taken into account in the
wrongdoings of his daughters, some logic may be found in his daughters actions. Lear is a king
and probably pays little attention to his daughters as they are growing up. In that time it would
have been his sole job to rule, not to parent. Lear s lack of attention to his daughters is shown in
the fact that he did not know them well enough to see the sincerity of love in his youngest,

3.4.3 INSURANCE REGULATORY ACT (1999)
The Malhotra Committee Report set the tone of change in the Indian insurance sector and
deregulation followed subsequently. Indian cabinet approved the Insurance Regulatory Authority
(IRA) Bill on 6 March 1999 which was aimed at liberalizing Indian life and general insurance
industry. However, due to political instability the bill could not be ratified by the Indian
parliament. The bill was subsequently termed as IRDA Act and passed in the Parliament on 7
December 1999. With the passing of the bill the monopoly position of LIC was removed and
private companies were allowed to operate in the Indian insurance market. After the IRDA bill was
passed in the Parliament, private insurance companies were given licenses to operate in the Indian
market. Joint ventures between Indian and foreign companies were allowed but FDI was limited to
26 per cent of Rs 100 crore capitals of life companies and Rs 200 crore for non life companies.
Indian insurance market witnessed a silent revolution with the IRDA in place. IRDA, in the light of

Foreign Exchange And Foreign Currency
Foreign Exchange foreign currency is the elastic link between various independent political states.
The Central Bank of a country frames the monetary policy to maintain a desirable Foreign
exchange rate regulate the flow of foreign currency in an economy.
Now let us understand the correlation interplay between foreign currency the various economic
parameters. In a floating regime of exchange rates, the interest rates in the country are adjusted so
as to vary its real exchange rates also as a measure to control inflation. Therefore a developing
capitalist country will have its Central Bank adopt the policy of keeping its interest rate as low as
possible. This will enable the entrepreneurs the various economic actors to obtain capital at a
cheaper rate. It will also help to maintain a low real exchange rate hence boost domestic exports.
Growing exports will see a positive trade balance or a Current Account Surplus. With a current
account surplus the country can make strategic investments in the foreign markets or acquire
factories. This will result in a negative Capital Account while indicating the presence in foreign
markets. Such a cycle when sustained can provide a drive to the economy increase the country s
GDP improve the standard of living in it.
The sources in which a foreign currency enters a domestic economy are either by the way of
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) or by the way of Exports. Foreign Reserves can also build up due

The Gospel Of Jesus Research Paper
Christmas time has lots of different meanings to people. During Christmas, I choose to focus on the
gift Jesus has given us. By fulfilling the prophecies such as his birth and death,Jesus has given us
the greatest gift of all.
One of the many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled actually happened before he was born. The
prophecy was said in Isaiah 7:14. It says, Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The
virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. If we were to break
down this verse it is giving the Israelites a sign from God. Their Savior would be born from virgin
birth and be called Emmanuel. The naming of Jesus would be important because Emmanuel
means God with us and that s who Jesus was. He was God in the form of the Son here on earth.
The prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 1:18 which says, This is how the birth of Jesus the
Messiah came about His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came
together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. This verse explains how Mary and
Joseph were not yet married but she had been found with a baby. At this... Show more content on

The prophecy in Micah 5:2 calls out Bethlehem and says even though you are small and thought
of to be weak, a savior and king will come out from you. Meaning, Jesus would be born and die
on the cross and become our Savior and eternal King. This prophecy is fulfilled in Luke 2:11,
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This verse
was delivered by an Angel and told everyone a Savior has been born in Bethlehem. By this, he
meant Jesus would save us from sin. God choose Bethlehem for a reason, it belonged to his people
the Israelites and it was a small town but it would have major importance. This is also another sign
that shows that God delivers his messages in different ways. Or through different people such as

BPM needs a specific strategy and clear objectives and measures to guide improvement initiatives
and determine the target of improvement efforts. It supports the competitive differentiation strategy
that Omnicron is adopting, assists the positioning of Omnicron as a multitask smart wrist
accessory with its exclusive features and design. BPM can help the company leave its competitors
far behind by agilely responding to market changes (BPM Reports, 2007).
Below is the positioning map describing where Omnicron is targeting to:
Problem Analysis
Ben s Omnicrons Pty Ltd is a company with a highly functional organizational structure. The
managers and employees of six different departments are focusing too narrowly on their own tasks,
performing them in isolation without comprehending previous and subsequent steps outside their
functional silos , therefore losing the sight of the whole picture of the larger business process
(Magal amp; Word, 2009). Lack of sufficient communication leads to lack of consideration of
workers from each functional group to their consequences for the other components of the process.
The company had never put much effort and time into developing streamlined, computer based and
IT utilized business process. The overwhelming reliance on paper based manual methods to get
things done has resulted in the insufficient coordination of the whole value chain.

Physics Behind Catapults
Have you ever wondered how a catapult works? We had to ask just that question when we were
assigned a project. Where we had to create a functional catapult and graph the arc of the object shot
from the catapult we created. In this essay I will discuss the history and mathematical concepts
behind catapults. I will also include some fun facts.
There are many mathematical concepts behind a catapult. One big mathematical concept behind a
catapult is a parabola. A parabola is defined as a symmetrical open plane curve formed by the
intersection of a cone with a plane parallel to its side. The path of a projectile under the influence
of gravity ideally follows a curve of this shape. A parabola is the shape of the arc made by the
object launched. Sense the arc is a parabola not only will the curve of the object going up be same
as it going down but, the arc can also be graphed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It depends on the angle it is shot at because if the angle to low or high it will have a very short
range. It depends on force because the more force applied to shoot it the farther it will go and
the less force you apply the less range you will have. Another thing that will affect the range of
our catapult is the tightness of the rubber bands. If they are to tight won t allow the catapult to
be pulled back and spring forward. If the rubber bands are too loose they won t hold it together and
the catapult won t be able to spring back like it s supposed to. The angle also plays a crucial role in
the range of a catapult. If the catapult is at to high of an angle it will shoot directly at the ground.
If it is at to low of an angle it will shoot directly up into to the air. Both things will cause a drastic
decrease in

How Healthcare Is An Important Industry That Is Always Needed
Healthcare is an important industry that is always needed. Like other industries, it has to start
somewhere. Organizations have to be planned, opened, and organized, healthcare providers ,
managers, and other employees need to be hired, and much more. One of the most important
employees within an organization is the compensation specialist. Compensation specialists
supervise and manage the employee compensation programs within an organization. Some of the
common responsibilities include: developing the organization s pay structure, managing and
improving all bonus or commissions, and preparing job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst,
2013). According to Samantha Smith, a compensation specialist for Rocky Mountain Sleep Clinic,
the process of determining an employee s salaryis rather long and time consuming. She says that
there are five steps she follows to develop the salaries within the organization. First she must
review her own pay practice to help determine the budget of the company. Once this is completed,
she must determine the definition and description of each job, which is later used to advertise the
position during the hiring process. A proper description of each position allows for the applicants
to understand what they are applying for. Employees also know what is expected of them after
reading the job description. It is also important to track the competition. Salaries will vary by
organization, position, and employee, but knowing where the

Taking a Look at an Electromagnetic Relay
Patent Project: Electromagnetic Relay
Describe the problem: The electromagnetic relay is used many different applications as a switch.
It allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2
contact points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed
magnetic core, and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field
generated, the armature is maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field
is turned on so that the contacts touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was
developed in 1825 [1] and has not since been changed. One drawback to this design is that the
utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to
the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in the design, a loss of power. More power is
used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be changed. Thus the problem of the
current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used efficiently, so there is a waste
of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer market on the rise, industries want
to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus the solution to this power
inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better.
Describe the solution: This innovation provides a new design for an electromagnetic that is more
efficient in

Ludwig Van Beethoven
When I was young I always heard the name, Ludwig van Beethoven. As I started my journey as a
musician, I was introduced to learning about composers. A composer is a person who writes
music, especially as a profession. One of the names that always stood out to me was Ludwig van
Beethoven, maybe because of the movie Beethoven from my childhood.
Throughout some point in Beethoven s lifetime, he became one of Europe s greatest classical
composers. Only Mozart and Bach have similar phenomenal reputations first Bach, then Mozart,
and then the renownedly known Beethoven.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 (as his birth record is missing) in Bonn,

Brilliant Beethoven wanted to be someone known, as he found ways to incorporate emotion into
his work. His newly found techniques and the amount of love he had for music was what other
fellow composers lacked. Breaking the rules of western music, Beethoven was able to connect the
Classical era to the Romantic. As a result of his musical style, he made a bridge between the two
eras mentioned above. Not only did Ludwig begin composing in the Classical era, which brought
music to its highest expressive level, expanding in formal, structural, harmonic terms the musical
style created by composers such as Mozart and Haydn Works throughout the middle periods were
more forward looking, which brought emotion in the play of music, hence the beginning of the
Romantic era. This then inspired other composers to follow or take ideas from his footsteps. Near
the end of his composing, Beethoven was nearly deaf. Yet, he managed to create pieces
characterized by harmonic and formal structures. Despite, causing a ripple in the Romantic era,
Beethoven still followed the fundamental formal paradigms that made classical music

The Trade Dispute And The European Union Industry
This trade dispute initially began on July 25th, 2012 when EU Pro Sun, a joint initiative of
members of the EU solar industry, filled a complaint to the European Commission that solar panels
and various components where being sold in the European marketplace at a value lower than
market value. It was the biggest anti dumping complaint to the European Unionin history with the
total value of currently imported solar panels was around 2 billion euros. The European Commission
is mandated to investigate cases that are proven to be a valid complaint from the Union Industry.

Early in 2012, Europe s economy was shrinking and the euro zone s economy had shrunk by .3
percent in 2011 s fourth quarter. Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus all had defaulted
on their debts and were unable to refinance them. The European Union had to consider what
would provide the greatest benefit to all members of the Union, and how implementing anti
dumping and anti subsidy laws would make it even more expensive for solar panels in the
European Union. Secondly, China currently accounted for around 65% of the world production
of solar panels. Due to this it gave them competitive advantage and the benefit of economies of
scale. Due to the ability to sell Chinese solar panels at a lower cost in the European Union it
caused around 40 EU producers to declare insolvency, 6 EU producers to stop production (some
partially), and 2 EU producers to quit solar business between 2009 and 2012 (Memo/13/497). If
something was not to quickly be done about the dumping of Chinese solar panels thousands of
jobs would be lost within the European Union and EU producers of solar panels market share
would drastically drop, considering it was already at a minimal 19% Union market share. Thirdly,
the European Union had to consider overall relations with the Chinese regarding trade in general.
An aggressive retaliation by the European Commission in regards to the dumping could burn trade

Mobile learning in the 21st century: benefit for learners Abstract
As the quantity of information available increases exponentially and the general pace of life
accelerates, the ability to navigate, access, validate and share information will be a pivotal skill in
an increasingly complex environment. This skill will affect every part of a person s existence,
including everything from their ability to remain competitive in the workplace, to their ability to

The salesman on the way to meet a client, the worker sitting on public transport, the emergency
services personnel on the street and the list of examples goes on. But how much would modern
society actually use this facility if it were available? The increased requirement to undertake
personal learning to maintain a competitive advantage in the global economy (Falk Dierking
2002) has resulted in the average adult spending 15 hours per week conducting deliberate
personal learning. Considering those 15 hours per week are not conducted at regular times or in
regular places (Sharples 2003), the potential use is considerable. That potential is likely to
increase as the information age accelerates. People will need to be able access information faster
and more effectively if they are to increase their employability, business success, personal
fulfilment and social development (Lowey, 2003). mLearning provides people with the
opportunity to access information where it would previously have been impossible. This access
advantage is not limited to time and location. The devices required to access mobile networks are
relatively inexpensive compared to desktop or laptop computers (Savill Smith Kent 2003). This
reduced expense can make access to this learning available to people who otherwise could not
afford it. Extensible Markup Language (XML) in the future could (if not XML then

Essay on Heineken Case Study
HEINEKEN CASE STUDY 1. What strategy does Heineken follow in the global beer market?
The strategy that Heineken uses is that of differentiation. This strategy gains market share and
competitive advantage by distinguishing their products from their competitors through excellent
design. A U.S. wholesaler recently asked a group of marketing students to identify a group of beer
bottles that had been stripped of their labels. The stubby green Heineken bottle was the only one
among the group that showed an instant recognition. This strategy also focuses on high awareness,

Such cross border deals have provided significant benefits to the brewing giants. This has given
them ownership of local brands propelling them into dominant market positions around the world
as global brands sell at significantly higher prices and the margins are much better as compared to
the local beers.
3. What changes has Heineken made that will help it deal with its challenges?
Some of the changes that Heineken has implemented during the past few years include the
following: For the first time in the history of the company, the CEO is not a family member. Van
Boxmeer was appointed CEO although the family still maintains the controlling share of the
company s stock. They developed a plan called Fit 2 Fight which made several changes. Most of
them aimed at streamlining management. They cut the executive board from 5 members down to
three. The new board is made up of the CEO, COO, and CFO. The change is expected to assist
the company in thinking about the steps that it needs to take to win over younger customers across
different markets whose tastes are still developing. Heineken also created management positions
that would be responsible for 5 different operating regions and nine different functional areas.
These positions were created to more clearly define different spheres of responsibility. The
management group was cut from 36 to 13 members in order to speed up the decision making
process. Also, the

Psychology of Attraction
What makes us attracted to certain people more than others? The science of Psychology explains
how people become attracted to one another. Certainly some aspects of beauty are cultural; fashion
and trends change over time. Also, society and the media influence us into thinking what traits are
attractive. Some reasons for attraction have to do with familiarity and proximity. Biology also
plays a role in determining what traits we will possess. Biology and Psychologywork hand and hand

Ziv (2006) writes, For centuries, women have known that a narrow waist and wide hips are
appealing and have gone great lengths to accentuate these features with corsets, bustles, and

universal. Curves separate the girls from the boys, and apparently the hot from the not (p. 118).
Psychologist Devendra Singh of the University of Texas studied people s waist to hip ratio
(WHR). She states that Women with a WHR of 0.7 indicating a waist significantly narrower
than the hips are most desirable to men (Carey, 2006, Those hips, В¶ 1). Hourglass figures are
desired by men because the hips show fertility. In an analysis of hourglass figures of Playboy
models and Miss America contestants, it showed that the majority of these women had a WHR
of 0.7 or lower (Carey, 2006). What exactly is encoded in the hip ratio? It is a sign to whether the
person will have enough energy to care for offspring. Also, people who have the ideal hip ratio
range are less likely to get diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, cancer, and diabetes, studies
have shown (Carey, 2006).

I would like to bring social justice to individual lives by advocating for equality and ensuring
access to basic resources for the most underserved populations in our communities. I have been
involved in community advocacy with different organizations for most of my adult life, and I
have always believed that if there is a problem work talking about then there also are solutions
worth exploring and implementing. I ve had a long term interest in the field of social work, however
it was in 2008 that I decided this was the field for me. I had the opportunity to volunteer with the
PeaceJam Foundation at a local conference; PeaceJam is an organization that works with 14 Nobel
Peace Laureates to mentor youth, creating young leaders committed to positive change in
themselves, their communities, and the world. The impact that I witnessed on the young
incredible lives was a defining moment; I knew that I was going to pursue a Masters in Social
Work; it feels like a calling rather than the unfulfilling office career I once pursued.
My success as an MSW candidate will be enhanced due to a multitude personal qualities, and life
experiences that center on themes of social equality. I have a history of advocacy and passion for
social justice that will further the social work profession when working with marginalized
communities. I have been deeply involved in

Essay On Wellness And Meditation Tourism
1.Location introduction
Based on the corporate s philosophy and the environment requirement of wellness and meditation
tourism products. And take principles of sustainable development into account, meanwhile
considering some other factors such as geography, transportation, policy, and history of the place,
Ap Lei Chau is suggested as the location for Banyan Tree wellness and meditation resort in Hong
Kong. It is not far from the hustle and bustle of the heart of Hong Kong, but seems like light years
away from it all at first look. There were rows upon rows of the old fashioned junks and sampans,
some house boats where the fishermen and their families still live. A totally different environment

The United States Of America Essay
A crash in america may be coming a lot sooner than many people think. The United States of
America is facing problems a lot of people are either unaware of or just dont think its a big deal.
Most of america think that our economy and government is in alright financial shape, That may
not be the case though. America is in bad shape and it seems to be going down hill. America is
declining in world power as well and this is just another factor leading to a crash in the future.
Other nations are growing a lot more powerful than they have been in the past causing very big
problems as a nation.
There are a lot of people that think they have very solid arguments that america is in fine shape
and no one has any reason to worry. They think the problems people talk about are no big deal amd
that the nation can deal with them no problem. These reasons have some truth but for the most part
they have a lot of things that other nations are in control of. The United States debt is over 19
trillion dollars, that is an insane amount of money and it is going up rapidly. People think this is
ok because the US prints its own money so it is in control of its currency and debt. This is not a
very good thing to think because if the United States tried to get out of debt by printing trillions
more dollars than usual there would be a massive increase in inflation. Another argument is that
Obama added to the debt to get the United States out of a recession. He did do this but it also
caused us to

Nike was one of the earliest companies to make use of outsourcing. They outsourced their

What Effect Do Earthquakes Have On Coastal Cities
One impact that an earthquake would have is that it would kill people. In the last 500 years
several million people have been killed due to earthquakes. Huge losses to property also happen
because of buildings collapsing. Electric poles, roads, bridges, canals, ect. also get badly
damaged. Most of the time these damages happen because the earthquakes shake the earth or
rupture the surface. Earthquakes can also cause landslides around hilly areas that can destroy
property and can take lives. Earthquakes can even cause fires because of breakage of gas pipes or
electric lines while the earthquake is in motion. Lastly, earthquakes can create tsunamis. Tsunamis

The National Association For Music Education
Break Point 4.1
The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the
National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music
literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating,
performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical
performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the
United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are
also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques
through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout
their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are
designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts
Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to
promote music in schools across America. I believe that having these national requirements is
extremely beneficial in that students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same
efficient manner, giving each individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other
fellow American student. I do think, though, that there should be ways for these codes can be more
enforced, as I had never really heard of

Alexander IIi Of King Of Ancient Greece
Alexander III of Macedon or commonly known as Alexander the Great was a King of Ancient
Greek kingdom Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty. He spent most of his ruling years
on an extraordinary military campaign through Asia and northeast Africa and by the time he
was 30 he had created one of the largest empires of the Ancient world, stretching from Greece to
Egypt and into northwest India. Alexander is thought to be by most people as the greatest
military command that ever lived however this wasn t always the case. Many historians argue
that Alexander was in fact the opposite to what he perceived to be. This essay will essentially
focus on the good and bad side of Alexander s campaigns and through the study of various
sources we will be able to determined the real truth behind his leadership. The Persians and the
Greeks had been at conflict for hundreds of years before the time of Alexander. Ancient
accounts say that Alexander was at war with both Persia and their King Darius III and used the
Persian Invasion of Greece in 5th century BC as an excuse for his actions. Many of Alexanders
greatest battles were fought against the Persians and is where the ambitious young king began to
conquer the known world. The first major battle that he won was the Battle of the Granicus in
334 BC where he defeated a said 20,000 Persian horsemen and an equal number of foot soldiers by
Arrian. This was soon followed by another victory at the Battle of Isus in 333 BC led by their King

The Bolshevik Revolution, By Edward Carr
In his work The Bolshevik Revolution, Edward Carr expands through a detailed historical account
how exactly it was that the Russian councils took power in October 1917. Sociological frameworks
will also allow for a deeper understanding of the social unrest that led to the culmination of the
October Revolutionof 1917 and the unintended consequence of the bureaucratization of the state. To
fully comprehend the events that led the council to take power, it is necessary to acknowledge both
the institutional breakdown that is derived from an institutional lens while at the same time

From February to July, there were protests and constant debate, in hopes of change. However, Lenin
s theses are rejected and the councils continue to support the provisional government because they
re following the orthodox Marxist stages model.
The councils, who were mostly orthodox Marxists, first resisted Lenin s theses because it was
difficult to take this anti Marxist articulation seriously. In other words, they only saw it tangible for
Russia to go through a preliminary stage in order to reach a fully capitalist society, then only
through Marxian revolution get to socialism. Lenin did, however, articulate in his Theses the need
to bring rise to both capitalism and socialism simultaneously. Even though the council s shut down
his view, after the Kornilov affair and the breakdown of the institution, the councils begin to lean
on Lenin. Which results in the successful takeover of the councils. It too can be argued that as a
great leader Lenin won the people and a shift of sympathy towards the Bolsheviks, who promised
everything. The conditions which Lenin had foreseen in his April theses as justifying the transition
to the second stage of the revolution were maturing fast (Carr, 1985: 93).

Significance Of The Reconstruction Era
As a nation, America has gone through many things including war and political changes. People in
the United States went through much throughout history. The people that once lead this country
had different intentions and targets. One moment in history that was very important and very
influential today is the Reconstruction Era. The Reconstruction Era was a time period that contains
many accomplishments, failures, leaders, and aims. There were many events in this era which
made people call it a failure and a success. In the year of 1865, right after the Civil War,
Reconstruction began. The Reconstruction Era was known as the time of repair after the civil war.
At that time, the leader of the nation was Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln wanted the south to join the
Union so he freed the African Americans. When looking at the Reconstruction Era, there are many
events that make up this era such as the reconstruction amendments, the freedman s bureau, and the
Ku Klux Klan. During the Reconstruction Era, congress passed three amendments which were the
13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. The 13th abolished slavery, the 14th granted the African
American males citizenship, and the 15th gave the African Americans the right to vote. According
to the thirteenth Amendment Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except punishment for
crime whereof the party shall have been duty convicted, shall exist within the United States. This

Furthermore, gullies started appearing in bigger quantities due to soil erosion, and this is best
described by one downpour in November 1668 [that] opened a gully in the churchyard of Christ
Church parish that carried 1,500 coffins and their contents out to sea (McNeill 28). Moreover, not
only are these marshes bad for plantations, it was also an ideal situation for mosquitoes. To make
the situation even worse, the birds that were the main predators to the mosquitoes have now exited
the ecosystem. Despite this, Barbados was largely free of malarial mosquitoes, but other islands
weren t so lucky. When the Europeans made their transatlantic voyages, in addition to trading slaves
and commodities, yellow fever and malaria managed to sneak their way onto the slave ships. Due
to the sheer quantity of slaves needed to run a sugarmill, these slave ships were often crowded
beyond capacity and its cramped and damp hulls provided a haven for mosquitoes infected with
numerous diseases. And these unfortunate islands became hubs for spreading malaria and yellow

Grand Coulee Dam Essay
Background
Nearly 13,000 years ago, glaciers moved across the earth. In the Pacific Northwest they created
many rivers, including the Columbia. The rock that the Grand Coulee Dam was built on was
carved out by those glaciers creating a sturdy base of the dam. It is located in the rain shadow of
the Cascade Mountain Range in a shrub steppe grassland, which results in very little rainfall and
high temperatures. There have been many Native American tribes, including the Spokane, Sanpoli,
Nespelem, Lakes, Colville and many others that have lived along the Columbia River and have
relied on it for many of their day to day necessities (Columbia Basin Project 2015). On July 16,

salmon, an anadromous fish and once they re through the dam, there is no way for them to come

Mildred Pierce
Mildred Pierce is a woman that s tied down by the social norms of the 30s where women have to
be attached to a man in order to be anything or have anything. Women at the time don t really have
a chance in the workplace. They were expected to be housewives and attended their husbands wants

Gender And Politics James Joyce s Dubliners
Gender and Politics in James Joyce s Dubliners At the turn of the 20th century, a young Irish

contrast between the men and the women in Irish society. One of his most well known short
stories, The Dead takes a very explicit approach to gender politics as well as the idea of identity

The Between Associate And Bachelor s Prepared Nurses And...
The advocates for baccalaureate degree (BSN) educated nurses are growing steadily with both
private and public organizations speaking out in support. The reason for this outcry is
understandable. As a registered nurse with over 15 years of experience, I have come to observe that
the current healthcare environment has become faster in pace and more dynamic and as a result,
necessitate the need for nurses to continually renew, update, and challenge their knowledge. The
idea that basic nursing education will prepare a nursefor a lifetime of practice is no longer
reasonable given rapid technological and scientific advancements (Bahn, 2007; Gillies Pettengill,
1993; Gould Kelly, 2004). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the differences in competences
between associate and bachelor s prepared nurses and to identify a patient care situation which will
describe how nursing interventions may differ based on nursing education levels Though, associate
degree nursing (ADN) students take the same qualifying examination with the baccalaureate
program student to be licensed, the differences between nurses prepared at both levels cannot be
over emphasized. The BSN graduates bring unique skills to their work as nursing clinicians and
play an important role in the delivery of safe patient care (AACN, 2013). The BSN curriculum is

A series of events has recently occurred to cause the passage of PPACA. Economics are explicitly
linked to health care. In the United States, health care coverage is provided primarily through an
employer based system. This system began in the depression era when pay was federally frozen.
Companies, in an attempt to lure scarce workers, used benefits packages including health care as
bait. Described as a uniquely American private social security health care system, the employer
sponsored system is the cornerstone of United States health care system (Blumenthal, 2006). This
system has left many un or under insured. Blumenthal states (2006), The United States dependence
on employer sponsored insurance means that the protection of its citizens against the costs of
illness depends directly on the ability of private businesses to manage and absorb health care
expenses that have defied all efforts to contain them. Recently, economic downturn and the need to
reduce expenses to better compete on the global market has caused many companies to both reduce
their insurance benefits package and their work force causing many to lose their health care
coverage. The employer based system merged with the economic downturn, unaffordable health

My Job At The Club
Rained Out I ve settled into my job at the club pretty quickly. The manager and I have decided
that I will wear a bikini top with either pants or skirts while I work. We talked about having me
work topless, but since the front door opens and people outside could see me, we ruled against
it. At this point, I have been here several weeks. I have become friends with most of the girls, but
especially with Angel. I also get along well with Rochelle, Candy, and Sky. Not their real names,
of course. There is a group of other dancers that seem to hang out together and keep to

which starts at 4:00. I page back to the dressing room to find out which dancers have arrived. Angel

Effects Of Stress On Fetal Development
Research into the effects of stress on fetal development first began in the mid 1950s (Wadhwa,
2005). Stress is an overarching term that can cover different areas and is something that is ever
present in life, it can be acute and therefore only be small, or it can have serious effects on
individual s health and become chronic (desAnges Cruser, Hall, Jones, Mummert, Mummert and
Podawiltz, 2012). In relation to this essay stress is when our mental and physical state can be
distressed by a reaction to a certain stimulus. When people react to these stimuli hormones are
released (adrenaline and cortisol) and these move through the body causing a change in people s
states. Stimuli that can cause this reaction are known as stressors and... Show more content on

Using a model in this way allows psychologists to investigate processes in ways that would not
be allowed in a human because of the harmful effects that would be considered unethical
(Shapiro, 1998). Using these models a range of effects of stress on fetal development have been
discovered, these include: early birth, weight loss, and developmental problems in the early years
of a child s life such as talking, social and growth problems. This essay will discuss these effects
with reference to both human and non human animal models. The advantages and disadvantages of
both models of data will be analysed with a decision being made as to which is the best model to
assess the effects that stress can have on the development of the fetus both prenatally (before birth)
and postnatally (after birth).
The idea that maternal psychological distress has deleterious effects on the fetus is very focused on
today. Both human and animal models can tell us a range of things. Human models are helpful at
providing longitudinal data, which can help with long term intervening methods. There are a large
amount of reviews that indicate women who express greater distress during pregnancy give birth to
babies earlier, that are lighter than normal and have a higher tendency to develop mental and
physical problems later in life, than those who do not experience as much stress (DiPietro, 2004).

Nervous System Case Study
The formation of the nervous system requires a balance between proliferation, differentiation and
migration of neural progenitors, resulting in a neural network that mediates both behaviors and
autonomic functions. Here, we identified an exon junction complex protein , RBM8a, as a
positive regulator of embryonic neural progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation. We
determined that RBM8a knockdown leads to increased migration of neural progenitor cells
(NPCs) to the cortical plate (CP), depletion of the NPC pool, and a decrease in the number of cells
in the S phase of the cell cycle. Conversely, RBM8a overexpression leads to decreased migration of
NPCs to the CP, expansion of the progenitor pool, and increased proliferation. In order... Show

We determined that knockout of RBM8a in interneuron progenitors alone led to some changes in
their distribution, but this effect was significantly less profound as when compared to the deletion
of RBM8a from all NSCs. Therefore, we concluded that the phenotype is likely caused by some
changes in intrinsic properties, but conceivably as a result of extrinsic cues from excitatory neurons
and other cell types. To determine if the pyramidal cells in the cortex have normal
electrophysiological properties, we conducted spontaneous transmitter recordings from putative
pyramidal cells in the somatosensory cortex of Nes cre;RBM8afl/+ mice. Pyramidal cells in the
cortex of these knockout mice have a significant decrease in spontaneous inhibitory post synaptic
current (sIPSC) frequency, but no changes in sIPSCamplitude, or spontaneous excitatory post
synaptic current (sEPSC) frequency or amplitude. This indicates deficits in the presynaptic but not
postsynaptic neurons. Deficits could include fewer synaptic vesicles being released or the synaptic
vesicles containing less transmitters inside. Given our findings that these mice have fewer PV+ and
NPY + cells, we posit that cortical interneurons are releasing normal amounts of GABA, indicating
that the change in frequency results from the decrease in interneuron number. However, more
experiments need to

The Impact of Quality Cost on Total Quality Management
The Case of Private sector in Bahrain
Introduction:
The few past decades have witnessed unlimited number of changes in the business and
organizational contexts due to the numerous modifications that took place in the world markets and
economies. One of these changes must have been the openness of the global markets and becoming

this company a good position in the global market. And thus they achieve high profits in addition to
the best image and reputation for this company. This can be the stem upon which quality of the

Significance of the study: The current study is shedding light on two of the most important recently

The eerie, soft but low wail of the dark figures around me echoed in the swirling wind as I dug
my claws into the frozen soil, staring longingly at the distant wooden house, my sharp, pale
yellow eyes barely able to see it through the thick sheet of descending snow. There I waited,
alongside my allies, watching every move from afar. The snowflakes came down quickly,
speckling my light gray fur and feeling as if a million tiny needles were piercing my bare nose. It
had been hours since I started observing. We had waited out here in the cold, waiting for a decent
time to begin the hunt. The reek of illness brought us here. That scent meant weakness, therefore
food. The human that seems to stay there is often afraid of us, since every night... Show more

I broke the silence, muttering, She is being protected by another. We must get past her first.
How? Maliseet, the quietest wolf whispered, trembling in the cold as the kept his head low. We
distract the protector. Okalousa, second in command of the patrol grumbled. The pitch black
wolf continued. We act as if we are going to break down the door. Then, one of us tries to get
through that small opening beside the door, but be careful. It has an invisible wall. I nodded,
immediately turning to the house again. I finally spoke, Tinde, you get through the small
opening first. Me? The light brown wolf whined, then caught my piercing gaze and nodded
nervously, taking the order. We all padded back to the door, beginning to take a small jog at it as
we came closer. Tinde suddenly burst into a sprint, barreling herself into the door first. As soon
as we all got to the door, we began slamming our sides onto the door, rattling the wood
vigorously. The screams sounded up again from inside. As we kept bodychecking the frail door,
Tinde took a few steps back and snarled, leaping up into the window and disappearing into it,
making an ear shattering noise as she broke through. Maliseet glanced up at the window nervously,
watching Tinde scramble to get inside, still digging at the soil underneath the door. Suddenly, a
deafening blast sounded, causing everybody

Analyzing The Story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers...
In the story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers Gone? the author has created multiple
themes or ways to interpret the purpose behind the story. Lam says, She turns 70 but she
remains a vivacious woman her hair is still mostly black, there is still a girlish twang in her
laughter, and her eyes twinkle at the telling of a joke (Lam). The way the author speaks about
Mrs. Lam, using such vivid language shows that he takes time to appreciate the person she is and
how she lights the room up. Showing so much attention to detail about someone can really show
the love towards one another, thus allowing filial love to be an alternative theme of the story.
Filial love is a love from a child to his or her parents, in this case Andrew Lam is speaking... Show

Vietnam is very much relevant to this story because of the fact that Lam s mother brings over
Vietnamese traditions in hope that her children will continue to carry on their her legacy.
According to the who will light incense when mothers gone? , Lam create the idea of Vietnams
identity by saying, mumbles solemn prayers to the spirits of our dead ancestors, and to the all
compassionate Buddha. Here he is explaining a Vietnam tradition his mother practiced as a daily
routine, asking for protection of her children and that they shall thrive in America. Between the
family moving to America and the mother asking of her God for her kids to prosper in America,
this tells readers that the education system or dreams for a good career probably are not as
advantageous as the opportunities in America. One of the biggest challenges in the Vietnam school
system is that if a student has a question about something, they are not allowed to address the
instructor unless called upon. If the student never gets called upon the student must than go back
through the notes they took during class and find the answer. But what if the notes were not
written down correctly? Than that student has just answered the question on the next test
incorrectly because of inadequate communication of the school system. How is a Vietnam
student supposed to have a reasonable career if the countries school system is failing them.
However, just as the Lam family has done, moving to America will allow a strong and more
improved education for a levelheaded career. This is also known to be considered the American

Flappers Chapter 1 Analysis
1.) In paragraph 13, the writer says that the flapper was as standardized as a chain hotel ; by what
he means is that the flappers were similar almost the same to one another, much like a chain hotel.
He generalizes flappers to be all the same and compares the flapper s dress to be a national product
, as in something that was the same throughout the country. There is no distinction in the cut of
clothing between the rich flapperand the poor flapper national advertising has attended to that. The
rich flapper has better clothing than the poor one, but a block away they are all flappers. The
writer compares the sameness of the flapper s dress to the sameness of chain hotels. ...and
incidentally hotel bedrooms are becoming so alike you can remember... Show more content on

In the war, many young boys lost their lives; not long later after the war, a flu epidemic broke out
in the US killing millions of young men and women. After the tragedies, the youth began to
celebrate mortality, fun, money, and youth and the flappers did just that. Flappers were radical
women who didn t follow the conventional standards for women in the US in the 1920s and seeked
personal liberty. They rebelled against genderroles and did what was considered immoral for
women and norms for men; they drank alcohol, smoke cigarette, listened and danced to jazz
music, flirted, and drove a car. But most importantly, they made their own money. Though the
original idea of flappers were poor working girls who waited for someone to marry them, the
standard quickly changed. Flappers became women who wanted to make their own money and
didn t want to marry man to support them. Flappers appearance wise, iconically they had their hair
short to a bob, wore short dresses (an inch above the knee), wore makeup, and didn t wear corsets.
Flappers were not only iconic in the roaring twenties, but also in feminism and

  • 2. High Technology Manufacturing Firm Help Relocate Their... In the early nineties I was recruited by a high technology manufacturing firm to help relocate their operations from Southern California to their new home in Southern Oregon. The owner of the company had a young son that was approaching school age and he and his wife didn t want the child growing up in an environment they believed was deteriorating due to population growth, gang violence, and the high cost of living. I was involved in the setup of manufacturing equipment and inventory on the Oregon side, and after a couple of weeks we were in a position where the company could begin production and start fulfilling order commitments. The position I held was temporary and upon completion of the move I expected I would make my departure,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was given more responsibilities to include company travel to purchase new equipment, the training of new employees, and the development of new materials for organizations such as Boeing, NASA and JPL. The company was small and close knit and we all knew each other s family members. The owner of the company was very generous and we all received handsome Christmas bonuses dependent on company performance. It also wasn t uncommon to open your pay envelope during the year to find an additional bonus check. During the holidays my wife and I would attend 5 6 holiday social functions. I remember at one of these functions explaining to a guest who worked for the Harry and David Corporation that I worked for a small company. She told me that that could be a good thing or a bad thing. I assured her it was a good thing, and I remember thinking at the time, how could it be a bad thing? I didn t have too long to wait before I would be presented with an example. The owner of the company s son was getting older and he was very involved in his son s activities. He truly was a wonderful father. He also began to spend more and more time developing a vineyard on his property and became involved in a lengthy litigation over an easement on this property which took its toll on his health which culminated in a cardiac event in his early 50 s. Using a uniform extent size for all segments in a tablespace eliminates free space fragmentation and encourages high performance. However, this requires grouping segments by extent size to balance the number of extents per segment, leading to wasted space from excessive extent sizes. Extent sizes of 128 KB for small tables, 1 MB for large feature classes, and 128 MB for large rasters are reasonable, though you can customize these values based on your own environment and research. Separate read only data from writable data If a tablespace contains entirely read only data, you can put the tablespace explicityly in read only mode, explicitly. This reduces the volume of data that you need to back up regularly. Read only data files are also excellent candidates for storage on redundant array of independent disks (RAID) 5 arrays because they will benefit from striping during read access and will not decrease array performance with excessive write activity. The Alternative Food Movement In North America The alternative food movement in North America, manifesting largely through farmers markets, encourages people to buy local, eat organic, and to support local farmers, however these spaces are rarely reflective of the diverse population of farmers and buyers in the city (Gibb Wittman, 2013). Moving from a personal to a political narrative, localisation is presented as the way to address social injustices and environmental degradation, working against our current destructive global agri food system (Allen 2004,2010). Advocating for individuals to buy local organic food is seen as voting for healthier more authentic lives while making positive social and environmental change (Alkon Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are viewed interchangeably by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration of the word justice into their webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that the conflation of local foodas just by alternative food movements in North America reinforces racial inequities and excludes those most harmed by the current food system, particularly low income communities and communities of color. As such, this paper proposes the concept of reflexive localism as proposed by DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman (2011) as an approach to address this process of exclusion. In a floating regime of exchange rates, the interest rates in the country are adjusted so as to vary its real exchange rates also as a measure to control inflation. By fulfilling the prophecies such as his birth and death,Jesus has given us the greatest gift of all. One of the many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled actually happened before he was born. The prophecy was said in Isaiah 7:14. It says, Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. If we were to break down this verse it is giving the Israelites a sign from God. Their Savior would be born from virgin birth and be called Emmanuel. The naming of Jesus would be important because Emmanuel means God with us and that s who Jesus was. He was God in the form of the Son here on earth. The prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 1:18 which says, This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Where we had to create a functional catapult and graph the arc of the object shot from the catapult we created. In this essay I will discuss the history and mathematical concepts behind catapults. I will also include some fun facts. There are many mathematical concepts behind a catapult. One big mathematical concept behind a catapult is a parabola. A parabola is defined as a symmetrical open plane curve formed by the intersection of a cone with a plane parallel to its side. The path of a projectile under the influence of gravity ideally follows a curve of this shape. A parabola is the shape of the arc made by the object launched. According to Samantha Smith, a compensation specialist for Rocky Mountain Sleep Clinic, the process of determining an employee s salaryis rather long and time consuming. She says that there are five steps she follows to develop the salaries within the organization. First she must review her own pay practice to help determine the budget of the company. Once this is completed, she must determine the definition and description of each job, which is later used to advertise the position during the hiring process. A proper description of each position allows for the applicants to understand what they are applying for. Employees also know what is expected of them after reading the job description. • 13. Taking a Look at an Electromagnetic Relay Patent Project: Electromagnetic Relay Describe the problem: The electromagnetic relay is used many different applications as a switch. It allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2 contact points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed magnetic core, and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field generated, the armature is maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field is turned on so that the contacts touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was developed in 1825 [1] and has not since been changed. One drawback to this design is that the utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in the design, a loss of power. More power is used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be changed. Thus the problem of the current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used efficiently, so there is a waste of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer market on the rise, industries want to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus the solution to this power inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better. In the last 500 years several million people have been killed due to earthquakes. Huge losses to property also happen because of buildings collapsing. • 26. The National Association For Music Education Break Point 4.1 The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating, performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools across America. I believe that having these national requirements is extremely beneficial in that students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same efficient manner, giving each individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other fellow American student. He spent most of his ruling years on an extraordinary military campaign through Asia and northeast Africa and by the time he was 30 he had created one of the largest empires of the Ancient world, stretching from Greece to Egypt and into northwest India. Alexander is thought to be by most people as the greatest military command that ever lived however this wasn t always the case. Many historians argue that Alexander was in fact the opposite to what he perceived to be. This essay will essentially focus on the good and bad side of Alexander s campaigns and through the study of various sources we will be able to determined the real truth behind his leadership. The Persians and the Greeks had been at conflict for hundreds of years before the time of Alexander. Ancient accounts say that Alexander was at war with both Persia and their King Darius III and used the Persian Invasion of Greece in 5th century BC as an excuse for his actions. Many of Alexanders greatest battles were fought against the Persians and is where the ambitious young king began to conquer the known world. The first major battle that he won was the Battle of the Granicus in 334 BC where he defeated a said 20,000 Persian horsemen and an equal number of foot soldiers by Arrian. In relation to this essay stress is when our mental and physical state can be distressed by a reaction to a certain stimulus. Using these models a range of effects of stress on fetal development have been discovered, these include: early birth, weight loss, and developmental problems in the early years of a child s life such as talking, social and growth problems. This essay will discuss these effects with reference to both human and non human animal models. The advantages and disadvantages of both models of data will be analysed with a decision being made as to which is the best model to assess the effects that stress can have on the development of the fetus both prenatally (before birth) and postnatally (after birth). The idea that maternal psychological distress has deleterious effects on the fetus is very focused on today. Both human and animal models can tell us a range of things. Human models are helpful at providing longitudinal data, which can help with long term intervening methods. Here, we identified an exon junction complex protein , RBM8a, as a positive regulator of embryonic neural progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation. We determined that RBM8a knockdown leads to increased migration of neural progenitor cells (NPCs) to the cortical plate (CP), depletion of the NPC pool, and a decrease in the number of cells in the S phase of the cell cycle. Conversely, RBM8a overexpression leads to decreased migration of NPCs to the CP, expansion of the progenitor pool, and increased proliferation. In order... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We determined that knockout of RBM8a in interneuron progenitors alone led to some changes in their distribution, but this effect was significantly less profound as when compared to the deletion of RBM8a from all NSCs. Therefore, we concluded that the phenotype is likely caused by some changes in intrinsic properties, but conceivably as a result of extrinsic cues from excitatory neurons and other cell types. To determine if the pyramidal cells in the cortex have normal electrophysiological properties, we conducted spontaneous transmitter recordings from putative pyramidal cells in the somatosensory cortex of Nes cre;RBM8afl/+ mice. Pyramidal cells in the cortex of these knockout mice have a significant decrease in spontaneous inhibitory post synaptic current (sIPSC) frequency, but no changes in sIPSCamplitude, or spontaneous excitatory post synaptic current (sEPSC) frequency or amplitude. This indicates deficits in the presynaptic but not postsynaptic neurons. Deficits could include fewer synaptic vesicles being released or the synaptic vesicles containing less transmitters inside. Given our findings that these mice have fewer PV+ and NPY + cells, we posit that cortical interneurons are releasing normal amounts of GABA, indicating that the change in frequency results from the decrease in interneuron number.
