The Jackie Robinson
The mens baseball league was in trouble when World War II started. The fans of baseball and citizens
of the U.S. Did not like the idea of men getting paid to play baseball while loved ones sent to war so a
certain Philip Wrigley owner of wrigleys gum and the Chicago cubs didn t think baseball would last.
Shortly after Pearl Harbor got bombed by the Japanese and most of the male players went off to serve
our country. The league owner wanted to end baseball but president Franklin Delano Roosevelt wrote
a letter called the green light letter which stated that baseball was a great cheap family recreation that
took about 2 and a half hours. This letter also stated that baseball was good for the economy giving
people jobs and fun. The final item in the letter asked the judge to extend night games so day shift
workers could watch too. Philip Wrigley and three other men Branch Rickey owner and president of
the Brooklyn dodgers, Paul V. Harper Chicago attorney, and Ken Sells the President of the league
decided that if they wanted baseball to continue the women would have to come play hard ball, but
softball was already easily available so these four men set out to find a way to convince girls to play
baseball, so Wrigley and the other men decided to combine the ideas of softball and baseball, they also
decided to name the league the All American Girls Baseball League (AAGBBL) but later changed it to
the ALL American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL)

Criminal Behavior And Social Control
Our society is at the will of two fundamental forces: deviant behavior and social control. Behaviors
that are not deemed as socially acceptable, or that do not fall in line with what society calls normal ,
are deviant. Social control aims to influence people s behaviors and is a means of moderating, as well
as preventing deviance. The two forms of social control are informal and formal social control. The
former consists of self control and relational controls (Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin, 2012, p. 103)
while the latter uses governmental resources to deter deviance in its citizens. In my opinion, informal
social control is a better deterrent of criminal behavior since your own will and how you are raised can
be the greatest forces driving a person to live a good life or choose to start one. Informal social control
comes down to two forms of interactions the ones that you form with yourself that develop your
conscience and those that you experience with others. The first, internal, can not necessarily exist
without the second, external, because we learn and gauge what is right or wrong from the
environments and people around us. Our parents encouraging us to go to school, stay away from
drugs, and raising us to be responsible members of society is an example of external social control. In
contrast to informal social control, formal social control employs alternative methods of behavioral
control. According to Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin (2012), Donald Black, a

Research Paper On Powerboat Racing
I have a keen interest in all motorsports; I play a lot of motorsport games on PlayStation. I don t get
much time to follow the motorsport statistics and how the real world is doing in the motorsport but I
play a lot of games for example, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Formula One, Moto GP, Need for Speed and
Forza Motorsport. When I visited the drag racing event in Terre Haute, I become more interested in
Drag racing. In some point in my life after finishing up college and having a stable career, I like to get
more involved in F1 powerboat racing in Florida. It is more fun and water motorsport is something
really of my interest.
In general, I like to be involved in all kinds of water sports. Formula one Powerboat racing is my
favorite and the most interesting part which fascinates me about it is the speed on the water. It is the
fast race on the water in the world. According the Formula One H2o website, it states that Powerboats
runs faster than even the formula one race cars and the F1 boats are capable of going from 0 to 160
kilometers per hour in only 4 seconds (F1H2o). It is great as this is independent from anyone else, the
F1 speed boats contend at these velocities without the utilization of brakes or riggings. It is focused,
captivating, testing, brave, daring and fascinating.

Should We Let Astrology Affect Our Thinking Or Perception...
Should we let astrology affect our thinking or perception towards life?
In today s society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain social
groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular magazines.
However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider that astrology
is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it is truly a
pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of oneself is the
consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems such as marriage
and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological effects (Bennett, 1998).
Besides, astrology is considered as an ancestor of modern science which is supported by two aspects
of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the opinion that astrology can not be
trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless, according to Fitts Fitzgerald (1977), the fate
of one person is determined at some level which is inevitable and inescapable. Moreover,
Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations are supposed to determine the
characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even for twins. At last but not least,
some experts claim that people do not necessarily understand themselves and others through astrology.
That is why we

The Great Chilean Earthquake And Its Impact On Earth
Earthquakes have been around for longer than humans have roamed the Earth. Even though humans
haven t been around to record all earthquakes, they have been around to record many significant ones
in the past that have done damages to not only civilizations, but human lives and even the economy. A
prime example of an earthquake that wreaked havoc on Earth was the Great Chilean Earthquake. This
was the world s largest ever recorded earthquake which had a magnitude of 9.5 that hit near Valdivia,
Chile on May 22, 1960 at 19:11. This was the largest earthquake of the 20th century that triggered
large tsunamis to occur all through the Pacific Ocean Basin. This earthquake destroyed large amounts
of buildings, killed many people, and had a significant impact on the economy. The Great Chilean
Earthquake was what scientists call a Megathrust earthquake. Megathrust earthquakes occur at
subduction zones at destructive convergent boundaries and are the most powerful earthquakes in the
world that can generally create tsunamis (Subduction Zone: Tsunami Generated by Megathrust
Earthquake n.d.). This megathrust earthquake occurred where the Nazca Plate is subducting
underneath the South American Plate and in doing so it produced a 500 mile long rupture zone from
Talca, Chile to the Chiloe Archipelago (World s Largest Recorded Earthquake, n.d.). The Nazca Plate
and South American Plate are an example of ocean continent convergent boundary plates. The Nazca

I m going to look at Band 2 within the professional area of Learning and Development. I think the
following 4 areas are most relevant, and in order, to my current role of Trainer at the British Council:
6.4.2. Facilitate internal leaning events and workshops, delivering content as appropriate.
A major part of my role is the development and delivery of training materials. This involves a degree
of event and people management, but essentially I must be able to provide the knowledge that the
organisation needs in a digestible format.
6.11.2. Continually seek ways to improve learning and talent development activity to best meet
individual or managers requirements.
In a global organisation with a range of different needs and cultural approaches, flexibility from the
trainer is imperative, as is the need to change and adapt where required. It s important to address the
immediate but also longer term needs of learning and development across my organisation and analyse
these in tandem with HR and the teams themselves to develop a strategy for improvement that fits in
with the organisational, as well as team objectives.
6.9.1. Advise colleagues and managers on the best use of innovative learning technological solutions
to improve capability

This had to be done because the town was being destroyed! The hospital went bankrupt because of all
the immigrants who had no money because they had to provide them with free care. Also, Immigrants
always come first now, even before paying citizens. If there were two people in an emergency room, a
Mexican and an American, the Mexican would be cared for first even if the American had been there
first or was in greater need of care. It s hard to believe what things have come to. Americans are
beginning to take action and speak up. The majority of people say that they would not mind
immigrants if they were treated like us and had to abide by our rules. It s not a good feeling to put

The speed of light in water is slower than the speed of light in air, so when light goes from a slow

Since the light is coming from inside the water, a slow medium, into air, a fast medium, it turns away

History.
Lev Vygotsky, a Soviet psychologist created a theory which believes that humans need social
interaction for their cognitive development. Gallagher (1999) states Basically Vygotsky s theory
suggests that development depends on interaction with people and the tools that the culture provides to
help form their own view of the world . Another part of this theory is the Zone of Proximal
Development. The idea here is that a student will complete a task that they cannot do alone, with the
help of a more skilled peer, or even the guidance of an instructor. Throughout this process the child
will become more socialized and then in turn, this will improve their cognitive development
(Gallagher 1999).
The Benefits of Cooperative Learning. There are some subjects, where working in groups is practiced
more frequently than others. For example, many students are use to working in groups on a science
experiment, or working as a team in physical education courses, or maybe even for a project in social
studies. However, working with their peers

Children and elderly persons sometime steal without realizing they are committing a crime. In urban
cities, it is not unusual to find a network of fences who send out teams of shoplifters into specific
retail stores to shoplift specific items, much like filling an order for a customer. The fences only pay
10 20 cents on the dollar to the thieves and sometimes pay their room, board, and provide training on
how to steal and defeat the anti theft technology. Some fences have been known to bail their workers
out of jail when caught or provide for their legal defense. This creates a kind of strange street loyalty
much like the tale of Oliver Twist.
Theft from stores, including employee and vendor theft, cost retailers many billions of dollars per
year. Independent retail studies* have estimated theft from retail stores costs the American public
33.21 billion dollars per year. Depending on the type of retail store, retail inventory shrinkage ranges
from .5% 6% of gross sales with the average falling around 1.75%. Whole retail store chains have
gone out of business due to their inability to control retail theft losses. And worse yet, the cost of these
losses are passed on to us...the consumer.
Shoplifting losses will vary by store type, but can account for about one third of the total inventory
shrinkage. It is estimated that shoplifting

Gender Stratification in the Workplace
Student s Name Professor s Name Course Title April 12, 2013 The Experience of Gender in Gender
Biased Professions Ruth Simpson interviewed 40 males working in the female dominated professions
of primary school teachers, flight attendants, nursing, and librarians to better understand their
experiences. Of those interviewed, only two found their career choice unsatisfactory and had plans to
leave (356). The rest were glad they chose or stumbled upon their current career. Simpson contrasted
the experiences of male flight attendants, nurses, librarians, and primary school teachers with the
theory that minority workers are generally penalized by increased performance expectations, isolation,
and limited opportunities for promotion (352). Researchers have shown that women in a male
dominated workplace suffer from what has been called token status. A token female employee s high
visibility often increases the pressure to perform at levels above their male peers, their isolation as
male employees exaggerate the differences between men and women, and stereotyping which tends to
limit opportunities for advancement. By contrast, men seem to benefit on several levels by choosing a
career in a female dominated workplace (Simpson 356 364). Simpson found four main effects that
were experienced by her interviewees and these were: (1) career effect, (2) assumed authority effect,
(3), special consideration effect, and (4) zone of comfort effect. The career effect experience was

Looking For Sassure Meaning
The image provides a series of signs. There is a woman over a pedestal posing with the lingerie and a
man on a suit leaning on the pedestal. The first order of meaning is that the woman is posing for the

representing a strip show, where the woman, as an object, dances for the critical eyes of a fully dressed
man. The woman is wearing light blue silk lingerie. The colour is a paradigm. For Saussure a
paradigm is a type of code that is a set of signs from which the one to be used is chosen (John Fiske,
1982, Introduction to Communication Studies, 3rd edition, page 54). Thus the colour is a code,
specifically an arbitrary code and it connotes trust, loyalty and heaven and this makes us believe that

evolutionary processes that led to the development of these gene become clear. Changes due to
mutations and other factors which occurr in DNA sequences cause variation of genes over
evolutionary time. Characterisation of fluorescent proteins across sister phyla will allow accurate

The Importance Of Checking Bets In Poker
Encountering tough decisions in poker is almost unavoidable, much like in real life, but thankfully, in
poker, a solemn trick helps you overcome some of them, if not all. Not only can you set a price for
yourself to see some other card with the help of a blocking bet in poker, but also overcome the odds of
a big bet from your opponent s end when playing by the river.
Blocking a bet in poker is the best option when your position in the hand is ambiguous. For instance,
consider that you are holding a pair of J and 9 2 2 is the flop that comes your way. You make the call
immediately after betting the call. Your opponent will be pressurized as soon as you make a blocking
bet, considering the fact that must be significantly smaller than the one by which the flop has been
raised (You must also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can easily fool your opponent by calling a rather small blocking bet when a suit s third or a
straight s forth (referred to as a scare card) appears on the turn or by the river. A blocking bet in poker
can come in handy when there s a chance of falling prey to a large bluff. You could always face a bet
big enough if you check, when your pot is driven by two pairs along with a scare card, which happens
to come by the river. The notion of bluffing you would not cross the minds of your opponents if you
manage to call a good enough blocking bet but you could face the heat at this point of the play
provided that you aren t raised in any way.
Making a smaller blocking bet in comparison to the ones made beforehand is a strict nono. It might so
happen that in an attempt scrape through cheaply, your opponent might sniff your intentions and play
possum till he fools you with a huge bluffing bet. Blocking bets seldom backfire, provided that they
aren t too small for the opponent to overlook. Otherwise these bets serve the purpose of retarding the
pace of the game at your opponents end.

Role And Role Of Gender Inequality In Indian Society
GENDER INEQUALITY IN INDIAN SOCIETY AND ROLE OF WOMEN S EDUCATION IN
REMOVING GENDER INEQUALITY
Abstract
If we look in to the history, since ages women have been experiencing discrimination, viewed as less
than fully human, considered as inferior brains, suffered a lot due to a lack of legal rights and with
very little independence. Gender is a function of power relationship between men and women where
men are considered superior to women in Indian society. Traditionally women are considered as
weaker section and kept in a subordinate position to men. The level of discrimination differs from
society to society, community to community; it depends upon the development stage of a particular
society or nation. Patriarchy system is the root cause of gender inequality.
Education is a key tool in bringing socio economic empowerment among women, which brings
citizenry consciousness among women on their rights and duties. It promotes social, political,
economical and cultural advancement of women. Educated women have proved to be no less than
men in all fields.

Literature Color Symbolism
The Color of Literature
Color symbolism can be used to set the tone of a story and aspects within that story. Colors can invoke
an emotional response as well as paint a picture of a character or scene within the story. In exploring
the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Damrosch, Pike 1200 59) along with Christopher
Columbus letter The Green and Beautiful Land (Columbus 1 7) there are three main colors that stand
out. The first color, as shown in both titles, is green. Green plays a significant role in both tales as it is
the main color of the antagonist in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the supple landscape that is
described by Columbus. Green also represents negative aspects in the stories such as misfortune and

and represent the fertility of the new lands (5).
Columbus describes the native islanders as wondrous[ly] timid and delighted to receive items of little
or no value from the crewmen (2). It is in this description that the reader imagines the inexperience of
the islanders, a negative often associated with the color green.
The next representation of color is of gold, or yellow. Yellow represents idealism, vitality, and gold, or
wealth as well as cowardice, greed, and deceit ((Rohrer; Smith). The Green Knight s attire was
adorned with color, bright gold on silk broideries banded most richly (1207). The saddle blanket of
both the Green Knight s horse and Sir Gawain s horse was embellished with gold trim. These
detailings of gold represent vitality and wealth. The wealth of Bertilak s castle is also seen in the
description of the lavish surroundings, from the curtains with clear golden hems to the tapestries hung
on ropes with red gold rings (1223). The account of lavish surroundings may also give the impression
of greed as well as wealth.
The color yellow symbolizes idealism and

Claims Adjuster Case Study
After a car accident, the insurance company will want to know the details of the accident. A claims
adjuster will contact you to take a statement. This usually happens a few days after the accident, which
is often a terrible time to make any statements especially if you ve been injured and are taking pain
medicine. While giving a statement might speed up the claim process, it might result in a problem
with the claim if you re not careful.
Why Does the Insurance Company Want a Recorded Statement?
When an adjuster calls to get a recorded statement, they ll want to hear your version of events. At this
point, the adjuster will only have the version of the person they insure. He or she will use your
statement, police reports, the statement of the insured as well as witness reports to build a better
picture of what happened in the accident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether rude or friendly, if the claims adjuster can get you to contradict a statement you ve made
previously, they can claim that you re lying. Any statements you make verbally or in writing become a
part of the file.
Reasons You Shouldn t Give One
If you ve filed a lawsuit against the adjuster s insured driver, you ll want to be especially careful about
recorded statements. The adjuster is looking for a way to lessen the impact of your suit against the
insurance company. They re skilled at asking questions to ellicit contradictory statements. While you
might see an innocent question when they ask what you were doing that day, they are trying to find
fault. If you were coming from a bad day at work, they might try to say that you were distracted.
Many lawyers would advise you to give a written statement regarding the events. You ll be able to
prepare this ahead of time and consider your words carefully.

Comparing the Great Gatsby and American Beauty
Set in the summer of the Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby follows the hedonistic and destructive
lifestyles of the upper social classes of post war America. This novel, written by F Scott Fitzgerald in
the same time period, criticizes the shallowness of the actions of this outlandish generation and their
eventual disillusionment with their society. American Beauty, the 1999 film directed by Sam Mendes
and written by Alan ball, uses the setting of contemporary middle class suburban America to examine
the differences between the inner and outer realities of a typical American Beauty are obvious in
connection between Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Mendes American Beauty are obvious in the

The colossal dream that Gatsby builds up and holds onto eventually becomes his downfall and is the
most prominent illustration of the failure of the American Dream in The Great Gatsby.
Although it is the repercussions of their deceptive fantasies that Gatsby and Lester fall victim to, it
was their continued search for love that leads them to these. Love is the principal value in The Great
Gatsby and is illustrated best by the contrast of Gatsby s idealized romantic love for Daisy with Daisy
s love for wealth and status, a love which is common to the majority of their irresponsible society. F
Scott Fitzgerald emphasizes Gatsby s romantic readiness through this contrast as well as Gatsby s fall
from grace that results in him becoming lost in the colossal vitality of his illusions (pg. 92). Daisy
characterizes the power of a love of money in the Great Gatsby and is used by Fitzgerald in
condemning Gatsby s hedonistic society as well as his own. However it is the absence of love rather
than the presence that is most prominent in American

Essay about The Cystic Fibrosis Gene
The Cystic Fibrosis Gene
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited autosomal recessive disease that exerts its main effects on the digestive
system and the lungs. This disease is the most common lethal genetic disorder in Caucasians, affecting
one out of 2,500. On the bioethical front, CF was the first human genetic disease to be cloned by
geneticists. The intent of this paper is to describe how the cystic fibrosis gene was identified, how the

In order to determine the exact location of the CF gene, probes were taken from the nucleotide
sequence obtained from chromosome jumping. To find these probes, horse, cow, chicken, and mouse
DNA was separated using Southern Blot electrophoresis. Two probes were found to bind to all of the
vertebrates DNA. This meant that the base pairs within the probes contained related information,
possibly even the gene.
The Northern Blot electrophoresis technique was then used to distinguish between the two probes still
remaining in order tofind out which one actually contained the CF gene. This was successful because
Northern Blot electrophoresis tests RNA, not DNA. The RNA of cell types affected with CF, along
with the RNA of unaffected cell types were placed on a gel. Probe number two bound to the RNA of
affected cell types in the pancreas, colon, and nose (all CF affected cells,) but did not bind to the RNA
from non affected cell types like those of the brain and heart. Probe number one did not bind
exclusively to cell types from CF affected areas like number two did. From this evidence, these
scientists determined that probe number two contained the CF gene.
While isolating the CF gene

Zen Buddhist Monk Research Paper
The journey of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk is long and difficult. Those who work their way
through the many trials it takes to reach this stature are held to the highest regard. Living a life of
humility as well as living a life of labor, are two of the steps of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk. Both
challenge the body and mind, and help them reach their full potential.
The first aspect of becoming a Zen Buddhist Monk is to live a life of humility. The way they teach the
young monks humility is as follows:
While there is no doubt that the chief means of supporting the Zendo life is begging, as was in ancient
days of the Buddha, begging has, besides its economic value, a two fold moral signification: the one is
to teach the beggar humility and the other is to make the donor ... Show more content on

By seeing the world through the eyes of someone who is consider the lowest of the low by society,
they gain humbleness. In addition, the young monks are also taught humility through the food they
consume. Suzuki (2010) writes:
They ask for such as are rejected by the farmers as unfit for the market. When they have enough
collected they pile them on a hand cart which is pulled by them as far as the foot of the hill where the
monastery is situated. After that, the load will be carried on their backs to the kitchen, and then some
will be made ready for immediate consumption while others will be used for pickles or preserved for
winter supply. (p. 26)
They do not get to eat vegetables that are considered cream of the crop, they eat the ones that the
farmers would not sell to paying customers. This aspect teaches them humility by only allowing them
food that may have rotten spots or imperfections. They eat the way the beggars may eat, only taking
what they can find. This again gives the young monks perspective, helping them realize their self is
not as important as they

Polyphenols Vs Antioxidant
Polyphenols are a naturally occurring compound in apples that have recently been found equally as
effective as antioxidants in preventing free radicals from damaging the cells due to their ability to fight
oxidation of low density lipoproteins and scavenge reactive oxygen species (Rana, Boyer and Liu,
Bellion et al.). They are known as a stronger protector for the organism against oxidative stress
mediated damage (Bellion et al.) Humans and animals have complex antioxidant defense systems, but
they cannot prevent every oxidative stress from occurring. Both cardiovascular disease and cancer are
thought to be the most dangerous results of oxidative stress, both of which can lead to damage of the
larger biomolecules, such as DNA, lipids, and proteins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be defined as the intake of foreign agents in order to restrain induction, to prevent or slow the
progression of cancer or reversal of carcinogenesis at a premalignant stage (Jaganathan et al.) These
experiments, both studying in vivo and in vitro effects of apple polyphenols, have showed their
benefits as a strong chemopreventive food. When reviewing in vivo studies, the chemopreventive
properties in the apple diet could be seen as a visible reduction of inflammation, epithelial lesions in
the colon and increasing of apoptosis in tumor cells (Pietro Femia, et al.) Cancer preventive strategies
in vitro include mechanisms to trap and remove carcinogens from the organism, which would
minimize their contact with DNA and reduce their genotoxic and promutagenic action, and also
preventing the activation of procarcinogens to ultimate carcinogens, which could enhance their
detoxification through modulation of xenobiotic metabolism (Gerhauser et al.) Protein expression was
also noted in in vitro studies showing that polyphenols increase expression of both the p53 protein and
GSTT2 protein, which suppresses tumors and reduces genotoxic stress,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Elizabeth Bishop s One Art
One Art is a villanelle filled with sad sentiments of encouragement towards accepting loss. Elizabeth
Bishop uses her tone to pull emotions from the reader that could be confusion and disagreement. Her
tone deeply impacts the reader in such a way that it causes him/her to seriously think of accepting her
opinion and advice. The capturing way she uses her tone in her word choice shows the reader her
natural inflexion when she speaks. The tone of her work even affects her characterization. In One Art,
Elizabeth Bishop uses tone to convey a character of false casualty, while also using it to emphasize the
very heavy impact of her diction. In the first lines of One Art, Bishop s tone is that of a melancholy
nature. She states that losing isn t hard to master (line 1). She follows this by proclaiming that
everything intends to be lost from the beginning, so disaster should not be felt when those losses take
place (line 3). Erin Christian talks somewhat of this in her essay, On Loss in Elizabeth Bishop s One
Art . One may infer that Bishop s tone, in these lines, reflects this opinion of easiness with the
rhyming of the word master with disaster (Christian 541). This style is used in a villanelle to be rigid
and almost unplanned, which reflects the tone of Bishop s words in that her opinions and statements
throughout are rather unfocused or disorganized. The way that she encourages her readers to lose
something every day is, in her view, a way to get used to the

How Is Genesis 1-11 Related To Sociology
1. Genesis 1 3
On the sixth day of creation, God created Adam and gave him total dominion over the Garden of
Eden. After a period of time, God realized that it was not good for Adam to remain alone in the
Garden, and therefore created Eve from Adam s ribs. God allowed Adam and Eve to dwell in the
Garden of Eden but commanded that they did not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and
Evil. However, a serpent later persuades Eve to pick an apple from the Tree, who then offers it to
Adam. God becomes very angry and casts them out from the Garden of Eden. The classical Disney
movie, Snow White, alludes to Adam and Eve. In the movie, an innocent and pure girl named Snow
White is offered a poisonous apple by a wicked witch. The witch claims that the apple was magical
and had the power to grant Snow White a wish. Snow White becomes convinced and takes a bite from
the apple, causing her to fall into a deep slumber. Both the serpent and witch used the art of
temptation, sin, and greed to lure their foe into committing wrong things.

Cain, the older sibling, is a farmer, while Abel is a shepherd. As offerings, Abel offers his most prized
possession, the calf, to God while Cain offers some leftover wheat that he had grown that year. When
God accepts Abel s offering and declines Cain s, Cain becomes filled with anger and kills Abel. John
Steinbeck s East of Eden, alludes to the story of Cain and Abel. In the book, Adam Trask has two
children named Cal and Aron, whose names are very similar to Cain and Abel . Adam clearly favors
Aron over Cal just as God favored Abel over Cain. When Adam refuses to accept Cal s gift of
$15,000, Cal become infuriated and kills Aron by making him join the army. In both stories, a murder

The Importance Of The European Union
Europe is one of the largest economic zones in the world and has tremendous influence within global
economics and politics. The European Union was created to promote peace throughout a region that
has been plagued by wars for all modern and ancient history. There is growing discontent towards the
Union in recent years, the United Kingdom has voted to leave the Union through efforts from and
candidates in member countries have pledged to leave the Union once in power. The future of the
Union is in jeopardy so the question is, whether the E.U. should remain as one or dismantle entirely,
and what problems to both paths lead to? The European Union should remain because all member
countries benefit economically and socially through unity, however the Union needs to agree more on
policy instead of populism. When the European Union was established the cause was rooted in
European peace. After the Second World War, many European countries found themselves in ruin and
saw an emerging superpower in the east in the U.S.S.R. Countries in Europe decided it was in their
best interest to form a federation of European countries in order to promote a more safe and secure
Europe. For the most part, it has worked, It is no coincidence that the longest period of peace in
written history in Europe started with the formation of the European Communities (Juncker 2016).
Europe quickly started signing economic treaties to help promote better trade between countries and
this gradually expanded

Research And Development Of Oral Drug Delivery System
The purpose of writing this review was to investigate, compile, recent, current and past literatures. In
recent years several advancements has been made in research and development of oral drug delivery
system. Various drugs, which are unstable in alkaline pH, soluble in acidic pH, having narrow
absorption window, site of action specific to stomach can be developed by using this technique. Gastro
retentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) can improve the controlled delivery of drugs that have an
absorption window by continuously releasing the drug for a prolonged period of time before it reaches
to absorption site. These include floating system, swelling system, expanding system, low density
systems, high density system, bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems etc. In fact the buoyant dosage
unit enhances gastric residence time (GRT) without affecting the intrinsic rate of emptying. GRDDS is
an approach to prolong gastric residence time, thereby targeting site specific drug release in upper
gastro intestinal tract improving the oral sustained delivery of drug. For minimizing the limitations
and achieving better gastric retention various combinational approaches floating and swelling, floating
and bio adhesion, etc., multi particulate systems, super porous hydrogel etc., have been discussed. The
present review addresses briefly about suitable drug candidates, formulation considerations,
physiological difficulties and classification, factors effecting gastric retention, merits,

Professional Athletes Should Be Paid
Despite the fact that one half of the world argue professional athletes are paid an outrageous amount
of sums than some of the world s most important people for example the president ($40,000)
professors and doctors, the basic foundation of entertainment are athletes. These hardworking,
consistent individuals are talented and do what most of us only dream of. Hence they receive huge
amount of sums annually. During 1920 s, early professional sport teams were run on shoestring
budgets. This meant players were paid less than $300 a game and were often traded for similar sums.
This was due to the lack of endorsement and media support. Now the world of sports has changed,
because of the audience and companies, they get paid the right amount. for; ... Show more content on

  • 2. The Jackie Robinson The mens baseball league was in trouble when World War II started. The fans of baseball and citizens of the U.S. Did not like the idea of men getting paid to play baseball while loved ones sent to war so a certain Philip Wrigley owner of wrigleys gum and the Chicago cubs didn t think baseball would last. Shortly after Pearl Harbor got bombed by the Japanese and most of the male players went off to serve our country. The league owner wanted to end baseball but president Franklin Delano Roosevelt wrote a letter called the green light letter which stated that baseball was a great cheap family recreation that took about 2 and a half hours. This letter also stated that baseball was good for the economy giving people jobs and fun. The final item in the letter asked the judge to extend night games so day shift workers could watch too. Philip Wrigley and three other men Branch Rickey owner and president of the Brooklyn dodgers, Paul V. Harper Chicago attorney, and Ken Sells the President of the league decided that if they wanted baseball to continue the women would have to come play hard ball, but softball was already easily available so these four men set out to find a way to convince girls to play baseball, so Wrigley and the other men decided to combine the ideas of softball and baseball, they also decided to name the league the All American Girls Baseball League (AAGBBL) but later changed it to the ALL American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) ... • 3. Criminal Behavior And Social Control Our society is at the will of two fundamental forces: deviant behavior and social control. Behaviors that are not deemed as socially acceptable, or that do not fall in line with what society calls normal , are deviant. Social control aims to influence people s behaviors and is a means of moderating, as well as preventing deviance. The two forms of social control are informal and formal social control. The former consists of self control and relational controls (Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin, 2012, p. 103) while the latter uses governmental resources to deter deviance in its citizens. In my opinion, informal social control is a better deterrent of criminal behavior since your own will and how you are raised can be the greatest forces driving a person to live a good life or choose to start one. Informal social control comes down to two forms of interactions the ones that you form with yourself that develop your conscience and those that you experience with others. The first, internal, can not necessarily exist without the second, external, because we learn and gauge what is right or wrong from the environments and people around us. Our parents encouraging us to go to school, stay away from drugs, and raising us to be responsible members of society is an example of external social control. In contrast to informal social control, formal social control employs alternative methods of behavioral control. According to Owen, Fradella, Burke, Joplin (2012), Donald Black, a ... • 4. Research Paper On Powerboat Racing I have a keen interest in all motorsports; I play a lot of motorsport games on PlayStation. I don t get much time to follow the motorsport statistics and how the real world is doing in the motorsport but I play a lot of games for example, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Formula One, Moto GP, Need for Speed and Forza Motorsport. When I visited the drag racing event in Terre Haute, I become more interested in Drag racing. In some point in my life after finishing up college and having a stable career, I like to get more involved in F1 powerboat racing in Florida. It is more fun and water motorsport is something really of my interest. In general, I like to be involved in all kinds of water sports. Formula one Powerboat racing is my favorite and the most interesting part which fascinates me about it is the speed on the water. It is the fast race on the water in the world. According the Formula One H2o website, it states that Powerboats runs faster than even the formula one race cars and the F1 boats are capable of going from 0 to 160 kilometers per hour in only 4 seconds (F1H2o). It is great as this is independent from anyone else, the F1 speed boats contend at these velocities without the utilization of brakes or riggings. It is focused, captivating, testing, brave, daring and fascinating. The F1 speed boat race format ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cars design was very interesting and fascinating. We don t know a lot about his financial state growing up. His father may have been a peasant farmer, or he may have been successful in the cider trade (Burton). 6 7 Pierre s father really wanted him to get a job in the Church, and after Pierre got a little older, he went to the University of Caen. He stayed at the university from the time he was 16 years old to around the time he turned 19. Pierre was studying theology, but during that time discovered his love for mathematics (Hawking)! 8 9 When he left the University of Caen, he traveled to Paris. Paris was a great center of mathematical and scientific accomplishments in France, which made it a good place for Pierre to keep studying math (Britannica). 10 I m very impressed! 11 While he was in Paris, Pierre really impressed the French mathematician Jean Le Rond d Alembert. d Alembert gave Pierre a difficult problem to solve and told him he had a week to do it. Pierre solved the problem over the course of a single night (Burton)! 12 13 Because of Pierre s super math skills, d Alembert got him a job at the École Militaire where he would teach math courses for a few years. • 6. Should We Let Astrology Affect Our Thinking Or Perception... Should we let astrology affect our thinking or perception towards life? In today s society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain social groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular magazines. However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider that astrology is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it is truly a pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of oneself is the consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems such as marriage and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological effects (Bennett, 1998). Besides, astrology is considered as an ancestor of modern science which is supported by two aspects of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the opinion that astrology can not be trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless, according to Fitts Fitzgerald (1977), the fate of one person is determined at some level which is inevitable and inescapable. Moreover, Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations are supposed to determine the characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even for twins. At last but not least, some experts claim that people do not necessarily understand themselves and others through astrology. That is why we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Great Chilean Earthquake And Its Impact On Earth Earthquakes have been around for longer than humans have roamed the Earth. Even though humans haven t been around to record all earthquakes, they have been around to record many significant ones in the past that have done damages to not only civilizations, but human lives and even the economy. A prime example of an earthquake that wreaked havoc on Earth was the Great Chilean Earthquake. This was the world s largest ever recorded earthquake which had a magnitude of 9.5 that hit near Valdivia, Chile on May 22, 1960 at 19:11. This was the largest earthquake of the 20th century that triggered large tsunamis to occur all through the Pacific Ocean Basin. This earthquake destroyed large amounts of buildings, killed many people, and had a significant impact on the economy. The Great Chilean Earthquake was what scientists call a Megathrust earthquake. Megathrust earthquakes occur at subduction zones at destructive convergent boundaries and are the most powerful earthquakes in the world that can generally create tsunamis (Subduction Zone: Tsunami Generated by Megathrust Earthquake n.d.). This megathrust earthquake occurred where the Nazca Plate is subducting underneath the South American Plate and in doing so it produced a 500 mile long rupture zone from Talca, Chile to the Chiloe Archipelago (World s Largest Recorded Earthquake, n.d.). How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Refraction Lab Experiment 1, Refraction The speed of light in water is slower than the speed of light in air, so when light goes from a slow medium (water) into a fast medium (air), it changes directions and looks to be bent , when the pencil is in fact straight. Since the light is coming from inside the water, a slow medium, into air, a fast medium, it turns away from the normal. Figure 1: Refraction of a pencil in a cup of water. They will need to rely on each other in order to successfully complete their own job which will help the group complete the entire task. It is important to remember that each group member will be held accountable for their own roles, and also how they participate in the group. 2 History. Lev Vygotsky, a Soviet psychologist created a theory which believes that humans need social interaction for their cognitive development. Gallagher (1999) states Basically Vygotsky s theory suggests that development depends on interaction with people and the tools that the culture provides to help form their own view of the world . Another part of this theory is the Zone of Proximal Development. The idea here is that a student will complete a task that they cannot do alone, with the help of a more skilled peer, or even the guidance of an instructor. Throughout this process the child will become more socialized and then in turn, this will improve their cognitive development (Gallagher 1999). The Benefits of Cooperative Learning. There are some subjects, where working in groups is practiced more frequently than others. For example, many students are use to working in groups on a science experiment, or working as a team in physical education courses, or maybe even for a project in social studies. Children and elderly persons sometime steal without realizing they are committing a crime. In urban cities, it is not unusual to find a network of fences who send out teams of shoplifters into specific retail stores to shoplift specific items, much like filling an order for a customer. The fences only pay 10 20 cents on the dollar to the thieves and sometimes pay their room, board, and provide training on how to steal and defeat the anti theft technology. Some fences have been known to bail their workers out of jail when caught or provide for their legal defense. This creates a kind of strange street loyalty much like the tale of Oliver Twist. Theft from stores, including employee and vendor theft, cost retailers many billions of dollars per year. Independent retail studies* have estimated theft from retail stores costs the American public 33.21 billion dollars per year. Depending on the type of retail store, retail inventory shrinkage ranges from .5% 6% of gross sales with the average falling around 1.75%. Whole retail store chains have gone out of business due to their inability to control retail theft losses. And worse yet, the cost of these losses are passed on to us...the consumer. Gender Stratification in the Workplace Student s Name Professor s Name Course Title April 12, 2013 The Experience of Gender in Gender Biased Professions Ruth Simpson interviewed 40 males working in the female dominated professions of primary school teachers, flight attendants, nursing, and librarians to better understand their experiences. Of those interviewed, only two found their career choice unsatisfactory and had plans to leave (356). The rest were glad they chose or stumbled upon their current career. Simpson contrasted the experiences of male flight attendants, nurses, librarians, and primary school teachers with the theory that minority workers are generally penalized by increased performance expectations, isolation, and limited opportunities for promotion (352). Researchers have shown that women in a male dominated workplace suffer from what has been called token status. A token female employee s high visibility often increases the pressure to perform at levels above their male peers, their isolation as male employees exaggerate the differences between men and women, and stereotyping which tends to limit opportunities for advancement. By contrast, men seem to benefit on several levels by choosing a career in a female dominated workplace (Simpson 356 364). Simpson found four main effects that were experienced by her interviewees and these were: (1) career effect, (2) assumed authority effect, (3), special consideration effect, and (4) zone of comfort effect. • 17. Looking For Sassure Meaning The image provides a series of signs. There is a woman over a pedestal posing with the lingerie and a man on a suit leaning on the pedestal. The first order of meaning is that the woman is posing for the man, swanning carefree on her light and soft silk, exulting in her sexuality. Maybe this scene is representing a strip show, where the woman, as an object, dances for the critical eyes of a fully dressed man. The woman is wearing light blue silk lingerie. The colour is a paradigm. For Saussure a paradigm is a type of code that is a set of signs from which the one to be used is chosen (John Fiske, 1982, Introduction to Communication Studies, 3rd edition, page 54). Thus the colour is a code, specifically an arbitrary code and it connotes trust, loyalty and heaven and this makes us believe that she is like an angel, she is a good girl, waiting for the orders of the man. Fluorescent Protein coding regions of species of the Cnidarian phyla, will be subjected to an evolutionary analysis focusing on gene duplication, expansion and divergence. This will allow the evolutionary processes that led to the development of these gene become clear. Changes due to mutations and other factors which occurr in DNA sequences cause variation of genes over evolutionary time. Characterisation of fluorescent proteins across sister phyla will allow accurate conclusion of the origins of such proteins. It is suspected that gene expansion across evolutionary time resulted in the diversification of the fluorescent genes to exhibit a vast array of colours seen across today s Cnidaria. One phyla of particular interest in the Cnidarians, with their vast colour array of their fluorophores. The results were inconclusive and the hypothesis was not answered. The Importance Of Checking Bets In Poker Encountering tough decisions in poker is almost unavoidable, much like in real life, but thankfully, in poker, a solemn trick helps you overcome some of them, if not all. Not only can you set a price for yourself to see some other card with the help of a blocking bet in poker, but also overcome the odds of a big bet from your opponent s end when playing by the river. Blocking a bet in poker is the best option when your position in the hand is ambiguous. For instance, consider that you are holding a pair of J and 9 2 2 is the flop that comes your way. You make the call immediately after betting the call. You could always face a bet big enough if you check, when your pot is driven by two pairs along with a scare card, which happens to come by the river. The notion of bluffing you would not cross the minds of your opponents if you manage to call a good enough blocking bet but you could face the heat at this point of the play provided that you aren t raised in any way. Making a smaller blocking bet in comparison to the ones made beforehand is a strict nono. In exploring the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Damrosch, Pike 1200 59) along with Christopher Columbus letter The Green and Beautiful Land (Columbus 1 7) there are three main colors that stand out. The first color, as shown in both titles, is green. To find these probes, horse, cow, chicken, and mouse DNA was separated using Southern Blot electrophoresis. Two probes were found to bind to all of the vertebrates DNA. This meant that the base pairs within the probes contained related information, possibly even the gene. The Northern Blot electrophoresis technique was then used to distinguish between the two probes still remaining in order tofind out which one actually contained the CF gene. This was successful because Northern Blot electrophoresis tests RNA, not DNA. The RNA of cell types affected with CF, along with the RNA of unaffected cell types were placed on a gel. Probe number two bound to the RNA of affected cell types in the pancreas, colon, and nose (all CF affected cells,) but did not bind to the RNA from non affected cell types like those of the brain and heart. • 27. Rhetorical Analysis Of Elizabeth Bishop s One Art One Art is a villanelle filled with sad sentiments of encouragement towards accepting loss. Elizabeth Bishop uses her tone to pull emotions from the reader that could be confusion and disagreement. Her tone deeply impacts the reader in such a way that it causes him/her to seriously think of accepting her opinion and advice. The capturing way she uses her tone in her word choice shows the reader her natural inflexion when she speaks. The tone of her work even affects her characterization. In One Art, Elizabeth Bishop uses tone to convey a character of false casualty, while also using it to emphasize the very heavy impact of her diction. In the first lines of One Art, Bishop s tone is that of a melancholy nature. She states that losing isn t hard to master (line 1). She follows this by proclaiming that everything intends to be lost from the beginning, so disaster should not be felt when those losses take place (line 3). Erin Christian talks somewhat of this in her essay, On Loss in Elizabeth Bishop s One Art . One may infer that Bishop s tone, in these lines, reflects this opinion of easiness with the rhyming of the word master with disaster (Christian 541). This style is used in a villanelle to be rigid and almost unplanned, which reflects the tone of Bishop s words in that her opinions and statements throughout are rather unfocused or disorganized. The witch claims that the apple was magical and had the power to grant Snow White a wish. Snow White becomes convinced and takes a bite from the apple, causing her to fall into a deep slumber. In recent years several advancements has been made in research and development of oral drug delivery system. Various drugs, which are unstable in alkaline pH, soluble in acidic pH, having narrow absorption window, site of action specific to stomach can be developed by using this technique. Gastro retentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) can improve the controlled delivery of drugs that have an absorption window by continuously releasing the drug for a prolonged period of time before it reaches to absorption site. These include floating system, swelling system, expanding system, low density systems, high density system, bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems etc. In fact the buoyant dosage unit enhances gastric residence time (GRT) without affecting the intrinsic rate of emptying. GRDDS is an approach to prolong gastric residence time, thereby targeting site specific drug release in upper gastro intestinal tract improving the oral sustained delivery of drug. For minimizing the limitations and achieving better gastric retention various combinational approaches floating and swelling, floating and bio adhesion, etc., multi particulate systems, super porous hydrogel etc., have been discussed.
