Sex Education And Sexual Education
How can sexual education programs be improved to further improve the health of a country?
INTRODUCTION
Sex education has become increasingly normalised in the twenty first century. Attitudes to sex have
evolved as society becomes more open to discussions about relationships and sexual health.
Simultaneously, the rate of teen pregnancy has dropped since the previous generation, suggesting
that either teenagers are having sex later, or using contraception more effectively. As sex education
is prevalent, however not compulsory in many of today s high schools, the country must question
the value of this program and the impacts on the students who undertake it. The sexual health of an
individual is intrinsically connected to the overall physical and mental health of the country. The
health of individuals makes up the health of a population it seems quite clear that, in a perfect
world, sexual education would improve national health. Countries around the world have different
attitudes towards sex education, and opinions on the most effective way to teach it and the overall
health of these populations is equally as diverse. Australia as a nation must investigate the effects of
sexual education, to ensure its program is the most effective.
COMPARE DIFFERENT TACTICS ROUND THE WORLD
European countries have the lowest rates of teen pregnancies, with fewer than four births per
thousand. These countries include Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. These countries

Questions On The Word Equity
Introduction
The word equity has numerous meanings and to various people it is a symbol of fairness or
justice. The origin of equity can be traced to the deficiencies of the common law. Beyond
question, common law had flaws where any solution is unavailable or where there was an
availability of a remedy but it was not fit for the plaintiff loss. Moreover, the common law was
studded with formality. If two parties engage in a verbal contract in case of common law,
common law under no circumstances will spot the contract not provide any remedy to it. This was
one of the major flaws because whatever be the circumstances. In many cases equity stepped up
and provided remedies irrespective of the fact that there was a lack of formality. The main... Show

Over the last 50 years there has been immense change in the law of equity. This can be well
justified by the maxim, for example, where the equities are same, the first in time happens , and
the impact on happenings, as well as interest which are conflicting in nature and the maxim
equity behave in personam its impact on the working of the law outside the judgement. The
whole structure has been implemented with the aim of providing maximum benefit. The
statement flexible when law appears to be dominant, discretionary when law appears to be
obligatory and humane in its concern for justice rather than rights clearly signifies the
development of equity over the past 50 years. As a matter of fact, equity entails discretionary
features both in terms of application and even its extent which have a deep impact on the issue
related to domestic, as well as international law . By and by equitable principles came out as a
support to the Roman, as well as English common law which are done in order to enhance or
correct the body of civil law.
Maxim
The maxim of equity can be well described from the statement and the well defined principles
which are laid down so as to control the manner of the operation of the equity principles. This helps
to project the features of equity and in particular contrary to the common law which has a flexible
nature, impactful considering the need of the particular person and more focussed to

Mormon Cult Research Paper
The Mormon Cult
They all wear weird under garments. They are racist. They practice polygamy. They are a cult.
Women are discriminated against.
These are some of the controversies I have picked up on throughout my life when those who did not
practice the religion brought up Mormons. I ve had two insights into the Mormon religion; one
being my trip to the Kansas City temple and another being family friend s with one some might
call a hard core Mormon . After many years of these assumptions I finally acted on my curiosity
when I was granted the opportunity after a friend invited me to join them for their service. On
impulse, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a look into this foreign religion.
After my invitation, I waited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wouldn t take my random outburst negatively.
That s actually not true in today s world, he replied kindly. He went on to explain that those who
would practice polygamy would become excommunicated. According to scriptures, the Lord had
commanded some to do so for various reasons (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and
Solomon) and they believe that in Heaven polygamy is practiced.
Anything else you d like to ask? He went on to say. Well yes, I have twenty million other questions
I d like answers to.
This is going to sound really weird, but do you guys all wear the same underwear every day? He
burst out laughing at my question and looked at the other girls who were laughing under their
breaths as well. In that moment I hated myself for being so curious, and quickly said Never mind!
No its ok, he replied, Our church is very big on modesty. After a couple is sealed (married) in the

Union Organization Essay
The goal of an organization is to promote an effective and fair labor practice. In some cases,
employees feel that the employer is only making decisions that will benefit him and the business
itself. Employers should operate their businesses and make a profit, but they should also consider
how business operations affect. Employees need to be included in a strategy to formulate a union
free organizations. In order to do so, employers should hold employees meetings, develop
communication, provide managementtrainings, and let employees know where the employers
stands with Unions.

Pro company: Company sometimes chose to run their own campaign. For example, try to convince
employees that their benefits are much greater without the interference of a Union.
You have rights, buts: Companies may force employees to vote against a union, but at the same
time, remind employees that the decision is solely up to them.
Almost all companies are entitled for union organization, but it is up to the employer to take crucial
steps that may prevent this from taking place. Employees join Unions because they don t feel
satisfaction with management, poor working conditions and the company is alleged to mistreat
employees. Strategies that help discourage union are: reasonable pay and benefits, open
communication with employees, acknowledgement, and fair work and practice policies.
From my short experience working as a HR assistant, I have learned that it is important that
employers need to have complete knowledge of the labor law before a Union knocks on the door.
It is important to train supervisors. Supervisors may commit an unlawful practice if they are not
properly training. Clear communication with supervisors will empower supervisors to do their
best. In addition, listening to supervisor s suggestions/complaints will create an open work
environment where employees will be able to express their

Marco Polo Dangers
Writing Assignment 2
Marco Polo, Description of the World
1.What were the dangers for travelers along this portion of the Silk Road?
The dangers were the climate conditions. When traveling through the desert, it was dry and hot
and without water for long periods of time. Not even birds or beasts would be in those areas
because there were no sources for food or water. Due to the lack of food and water, the travelers
that passed through the desert would experience hallucinations. There was also chances of being
attacked and robbed by bandits.
2.Despite the dangers, what made the journey possible and even bearable?
When hostile armies passed through the country, families would go on a two to three day
journey through the desert. The journey was made possible and even bearable by the towns and
cities that inhabited the road. Towards the edge of the desert was the province of Kamul, where
the inhabitants live off their produce and are also very happy. They sang and played music and
danced. Travelers were able to stop to rest and restock on their supplies for their journey. It was also
a place of trade and industry, and were not warlike.
3.Why did people inhabit towns and cities along this route?
People inhabited towns and cities along the Silk Road because of the trade and steady resources.
The soil was ideal for their agriculture products, cotton being a popular product. The inhabitants

Catullus 32 Analysis
For this assignment, I did the translation of Catullus 32. Within this poem, the author uses a
sexual tone. Originally, in the poem, it s a guy talking to a woman who people think is a
prostitute, but throughout the poem, it s a love poem to Ipsitilla. Within the original poem, the
reader can see how the author created their own word fuckification , how the tone starts to
change into more of lust, not loving about Ipsitillia, and also it s demanding in the way he wants
her to come see him. With this poem, people throughout the years have translated it, and
somewhat changed it up a little bit, but it s amazing to see how another person how they look at
the poem and interpret it. For example, in Translation 14, written in 1914 by C. Sesar, he states

With the translation I did I put a spin on it so I changed up the speakers, and I made it to the point
of view of a woman talking to a guy, and I made it as they were in love and not just a fling. I guess
by changing the male and female role you can stay the poem is not the same anymore, but
instead, I said it was a woman talking to this guy about how much she wants him and cares for
him. That was the same thing the original poem was trying a convey, but it just showed it from a
male s point of view. Also, I took some of the more sexual words out, and instead of trying to
show a loving relationship between the two saying it s something deeper than what comes to the
surface. In my opinion, in the original poem and some of the translations it came off as lust for
the woman, but I wanted to take that in a way to show a loving relationship and how these two
people can t wait to meet up and see one another. From my rough draft to the revised translation I
really didn t take anything out I just added some lines so it could flow

Arabic Language As A Language
Irfan Rifai is a name adopted from Arabic language that means wisdom and noble respectively.
My father told me that the name given to me because he wanted me to grow up being a wise and
a noble man. Well, I hope that I have not disappointed him. Arabic does not function as a second
language in Indonesia, but being predominantly populated by Muslims, Arabic is taught in the
early age for the purposes of praying and reading the holy Quran. Unless we have enrolled in
Islamic boarding school, Arabic language has not generally been taught or used for communication
sake.
I learned Arabic literacy at the same time that I learned to read and write in my first language. As
a kid, I spent my time studying at formal school from 7 am to 12 pm and had informal school
where I learned Arabic literacy afterward until 4 pm. With such a busy schedule of schooling, I
still wonder what went wrong that I was only capable of reading both in Arabic and Indonesian
fluently only when I was at my 2nd grade of school. Was it that I was too young to enter
elementary school? I was registered at elementary school when I was only 5 years old because
there was no kindergarten at the time and place where I lived as a young boy. Was it the methods
that my teacher used or was it that I did not have enough exposures to prints or reading habits in the
family?

Budget Cuts And Its Effects On Society
Imagine world that is bland, along with its individuals all the selfsame. In result of the reprehension
of creative courses in academia. That previously mentioned world would soon become an actuality.
When budget cuts were accruing in my school district; I remembered my fine arts teachers were
petrified that not only their department would cease to exist but they would no longer have an
occupation. There is a constant reminder of how paramount the sciences and mathematics are; but
the fine artssuch as music, ceramics, art, and all the other courses that allow creative freedom are
important as well.
As in consequence of our troubling economy, budget cuts were inevitable. In the year 2008, more
than eighty percent of schools nationwide had received budget cuts. Music and theater classes were
cut to the full extent along with some art programs. Within the late 90s and early 2000s schools had
theatre and dance classes available, ranging in the twenty percentile. Currently, that percent has
dropped drastically to two percent. These are just brief statistics on the outcome of budget cuts and
how quickly the outcome is the demise of the fine arts in schools nationwide.
A student who does not enjoy the fundamental classes might not find interest in going to school.
The innovated minds that find tranquility in a music class or rather a basic art class is more likely
to look forward to attending school the next day. Fine arts enhance the mind. It enhances what is

DATE: 29 October 2014
SUBJECT: Quarterly sales analysis
Following an analysis of sales data between 1995 and 2012, it is recommended that that Deere and
Co. incorporate the seasonal indicator variables model to forecast future sales. In the regression
analysis for this model it was determined that it was able to explain approximately
90% of the variability in past sales. Adjustments to this forecasting model can be made by
incorporating overall economic climate projections, long term weather forecasts, and commodity
market futures.
As evidenced in the sales plot, from January 31, 1995 through July 31, 2014 John Deere has

The Political System Of Portugal Essay
Portugal is a country that has a political system similar to several countries that have been discussed
in class. The current political system is a semi presidential democracy with an symmetrical
legislature, and it is a unitary government. There are different branches and chambers with different
powers that attempts to keep a balance of powers among the different branches. The current
political system is the result of many revolutions and evolutions the country went through over time.
Around the years 1974 1976, the country went through a transitional period where it moved from an
authoritarian government to a military based rule and then took a leap to a representative democracy
. These big transitions were the result of the Carnation Revolution in Lisbon on April 25, 1974
(Huffington Post). Another important event was when Portugal joined the European Union, this
allowed for more import and export opportunities as well as access to more well developed
political systems which led to the country becoming a less communist based system (Europa).
The year 1995 was the start of a socialist led political system under the power of AntПЊnio
Gutteres. He helped the country form strong ties with the United States which led to more
evolution of the country and its policies. Ever since the Carnation Revolution, the socialist party
has been in the forefront of all the political parties and has been the most popular majority since
1975. The definition of a socialist is, the state

Stokely Carmichael Kwame Toure, better known as Stokely Carmichael, was one of the most

13. Stokely and his family moved to an Italian and Jewish neighborhood where he was one of the

School of Science where he remained one of the few faces of color among his white elite
counterparts. Carmichael became very popular around his classmates, attending parties, dating
white women, and playing sports. While Stokely was aware of the racial tensions that ensued, he
never realized until later in life how differently he was perceived from his white counterparts. One
evening upon graduating high school, Stokely finally felt his calling to join the movement.
Carmichael was watching a television newscast that showed young African Americans protesting
the racial injustices. When I first heard about the Negroes sitting in at lunch counters I thought
they were a bunch of publicity hounds. He watched as these people were knocked off stools,
ketchup thrown in their hair, and sugar thrown in their eyes. After this he decided to join the

Darwinian Snail Lab Report
Darwinian Snails: Introduction In this experiment, we studied the manipulated effects of
evolution by natural selection within a population of snails along the Rocky Coastline. The
simulation of this lab is based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the
shell shape and thickness of the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He
saw that the shells had changed drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high
spiraled with thin walls. Compared to the shells found after 1884 were low spiraled with thick
walls. After doing some research, Seeley found that an intertidal crab, Carcinus maenas, had sought
after the snails for food.(Seeley) It was found that the shell size had changed due to the harmful...

It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but
when does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so
they won t be eaten by the crabs. In our experiment (McRae; Snails), we were asked to see how the
snails evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of
the population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still
evolve if all the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation
occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to
adapt to the new conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the
offspring would not be identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw
a more variety in the population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of
target and getting eaten more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to
choose which snails I wanted to eat, being as I was the crab. I went for the ones that were easier to

How Leisure Reading Does More Harm Than Good Essay
Over the decades people have used leisure reading as a form of escapism, however people have

escape into another dimension, it in actuality could become more of a prison, designed to keep
the mind trapped in between the pages of a fictional world. There are other ways one could spend
their time, for example, there are talents to learn, and skills to develop. And even though reading
has its uses gaining more information on specific topics, scientific research, and cultural
backgrounds it shouldn t be used as a method to understand life. In fact, life should be the way to
understand reading as writing stems from the experience of others. Reading for pleasure should not
be encouraged, as reading should only be used to acquire information no matter how boring or
uninteresting

Loss Of Identity In T. S. Eliot s The Hollow Men
The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot could not be any truer with the messages of modern society.
Reading Hollow Men, the average person can find almost all of the messages applying to modern
day times. Especially in a high school setting. It was obvious that Eliot was far ahead of his time
when he nailed society on the head about its imperfections. Three messages that Eliot portrays in
The Hollow Menare: the self identity crisis, the loss of faith, and the incredible force of skepticism.
In which line does The HollowMen show that humans suffer from loss of identity? Well, in lines
31 and 32 he gives a dark image of how fake people are. Let me also wear such deliberate
disguises. (Hollow 31 21) Now, the descriptive word that Eliot used is deliberate. That means
people purposely hid their true selves from the outside world. In Worland High, countless students
wear these deliberate disguises in fear of the awful judgement that they may receive. However, it is
not only students who are cautious.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Form prayers to broken stone. (Hollow 51) People still pray, but it s to nothing. As in nothing
meaning, they do not truly believe that praying will work. Many children are raised up in a religion,
and think nothing of them. There are followers and then there are religious followers. Religious
followers really believe and have faith in their religion, will the others follow blindly, and could
care less about their religion. Eliot informs his readers about how the majority is only followers
and continue to get worse. In today s modern society, this is very true, Atheists and Agnostic
Atheists are very common. Perhaps it is because of the progression in science proving many
religious events to not be possible. Then again, is this necessarily a good or a bad thing? Everyone

The diversity and the friendly like of the characters grabs the attention of parents and children
watching the show. As well as different cultures and religions are depicted to the audience, in a
form of education and entertainment. Your child will not even know they are learning but in
fact they will be just laughing at singing along with the furry animals. The diversity that Sesame
Street utilizes allow for children to feel a sort of connection to the show as maybe they are
bright and bubbly like Elmo or are tall and more serious like Big Bird. This shows how everyone
is different and despite the fact they are different they are still all able to be friends . Even if it s
being friends with a small furry little monster . Taking this show from children would take away
their social awareness. Knowing that it is ok to be different,to have different personalities than
other kids who they are friends . Sesame Street shows children how make friends how not to be
afraid to talk to another girl or boy , and how they can all be friends and play together . Recently
Sesame Street created a new muppet to join the Sesame Street family . The new muppets name is
Julia , the muppet is different than all the muppets Sesame Street has created before. Julia is a

Good Leadership Characteristics Of Good Presidents
Good Leadership Characteristics of Good Presidents
For our presentation, we have decided the best theme to show the many traits of great leaders was
to show them in the Presidents of the United States. There were many different presidents who
had different qualities; some bad and some good. In our presentation, we will show you the
president who showed a specific trait in their actions. Most of the presidents who showed positive
character traits were are remembered in a good way. Many of the presidents with poor leadership
traits became very infamous.
Theodore Roosevelt Courage: The 26th president of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt, was a very
well liked president; mostly because of his personality. He was a hard worker and played many
sports including boxing, fishing, running, and mountain climbing. His childhood really influenced
his personality and character traits that they carried on to when he became the leading general at
the Battle of San Juan Hill in the Spanish American. He led what was known as The Rough
Riders . His impeccable courage guided the Americans to victory. Also, when he became president,
he created the Square Deal which helped the American get out the coal shortage slump. His
courage to get Americans through droughts and rough times shows that he can be a great leader.
As Teddy Roosevelt showed, courage can guide people to victory, as he did in the Battle of San
Juan Hill.

Analysis of The Red Room by H.G Wells, The Signalman by Charles Dickens, and An Arrest by
Ambrose Bierce
The Victorian era, spanning from 1830 1901, was a period of dramatic change with the rapid
extension of colonialism through Africa, Asia and the West Indies making England a world power
and relocating the perceived centre of western civilisation to London. Advances in industry, science,
technology, architecture, medicine and travel were among these changes as well as the growing
interest, among the masses, in the occult, supernatural and life.

Both vastness and ocean make the reader feel lost and fearful of the unknown activities and size
of the room. Other words like mystery and suggestion add to create the effect of fear and
suspense. Many other words such as omens , spiritual , ghosts , witches , shadows , echoes ,
haunted , spectral and subterranean are piled on the reader to create a sense of fear, vulnerability
and death.
Next is The Signalman by Charles Dickens, which is about a visit from a ghost. The setting for this
story is very old, depressing, dingy and gloomy but the scenery around the signalman isn t
reflected in his personality. His box is located underground next to the railway line. Straight
away the setting seems to be weird as it s descending down, as if almost entering hell, zigzag
path descending down . I think this because most nice stairways are straight and go up, not
uneven. The writer also describes the place as a great dungeon ; this says to me that it s a place
of death and torture because those are the words I would think of when dungeon is mentioned.
Also it says there was a gloomy red light, and the gloomier entrance to a black, in whose massive
architecture there was a barbourus, depressing and forbidding air . This makes the reader think that

the second stage 25, 206 students selected in 50 states in the District of Columbia (Ingels et al.,

complex sampling, the data include weights (students weights, parent weights, teacher weights,
counselor weights, and school weights) that should be used to account for the sampling and non

The Punk Singer Critical Analysis
Turn your TV off Feminist Punk from a Postmodern Perspective
Following the life of Kathleen Hanna, the film The Punk Singer (Sini Anderson, 2013, UK) the
viewer gets an insight into the beginning and advance of the feminist punk Riot Grrrl movement.
Alongside the development of postmodernism, identity politics arose in importance as a way to
challenge the increase in social alienation which emerged as a result of industrialism and that was
widely accepted as a reality in modernism. The content of punk as a music genre confronts the
elitism created by industrialisation and the diminishing number of corporations providing mass
media. By rejecting mainstream content and forming close communities based on a shared identity
such as being a woman oppressed by the patriarchy Kathleen Hanna and her first band Bikini Kill
recognized the very foundations of social structure and the means of theorizing social relations and
culture. It was a reaction to being starved to death, culturally . Postmodernism is concerned with
subjectivity and the plurality that is individual experience of truth. It matters whether the subject
being discussed, and the subject speaking, is male or female [...] Rather than the distance imposed
by the idea of a master idea, it highlights intimacy and the importance of understanding non linear
methods of progress. In the film, this is exemplified through the value of zines. Being self published
and intentionally low in circulation they challenge the

Film Analysis Of Remember The Titans

Yakin, the main characters of the Titans are introduced as a group to us in a scene shot in the
gymnasium. This scene is when the team first meets the other prospective team members and
develop their relationships with each other. Yakin uses this scene to show the tension and
intimidation between the two separate teams, especially focusing in on the two coaches (Boone
and Yoast) while giving the audience an idea of where their relationship stands. He uses four
techniques to create this; blocking, sound effects, camera angles and dialogue do this. Yakin uses a
variety of minor techniques in this excerpt to provide the viewer with a greater... Show more content

This is important to the scene as it adds a new dimension and depth to the action being made
without the sound being present. An example in this clip is when Coach Boone walks in to
acknowledge the team, you do not hear his footsteps or the sound of his whistle around his neck
hitting against the fabric of his shirt. The director has done this to put more emphasis on his
actions, not the sound his presence is making for example, if there was an excess of sound
effects for every minute sound made would distract the audience who would not be able to focus
in on his paltry movement which have considerable meaning to the scene, an example of this
would be the way Coach Boone walks up to the team, his whistle is swinging from side to side
making no sound, you can see he is in an angry state with no sound intensifying this fact. The
lack of sound effects is not used often in the whole film itself, therefore making an effect when
the technique is indeed used. Yakin used dialogue in a certain way producing an intimidating
character (Coach Boone). For example, Coach Boone says, it is a dictatorship, and I am the law
this quote from Coach Boone is important because it gives his character authority. The fact he has
a harsh vocabulary (he doesn t use or have a soft voice/language) it is telling the audience he
doesn t break easily, he is a strong headed character. Yakin made the dialogue a greater chunk of this

The Political Strategy Of Versailles And Versailles
Just as he did with his ballet performances, Louis continued to infuse theatricality into his
political strategy by creating spectacles that captured his nobles attention and demonstrated their
king s immense power to them. Principally, there was Versailles, which represents the most
tangible example of Louis use of spectacles to establish and flaunt power. In Louis political
strategy of utilizing spectacle, perception was reality, and he used France s perception of him to
validate and reinforce the reality of his power. Versailles represented a concrete way to
constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with
him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance
on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable
as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby
building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense. Just as Louis was the Sun King,
Versailles was the sun palace, brimming with solar symbolism. Again, art became potent political
propaganda. Furthermore, Louis used Versailles to throw magnificent parties, spectacles that
served as tools to control his nobles conception of their monarch. In short, Versailles was festivity
remembered. The most famous of these parties, The Pleasures of the Enchanted Isle, occurred in
1664. This festival told the story of a sorceress who enchants a troupe of knights, and the function
of the festival itself followed much the same storyline. Through the extravagance of the festival,
Louis much like the sorceress enchanted his court with a dizzying series of fascinating spectacles
[that] demonstrated the magic of royal power. While Versailles and its accompanying festivities
represented artistic means through which Louis reinforced his power, he also utilized more
practical spectacles. During his reign, Louis grew the French army tremendously from only a few
thousand men to over 100,00 men in peacetime and over 400,000 men in war time. Obviously, this
growth had practical reasons, as a bellicose ruler demands a large army, but it also demonstrates
Louis innate ability

Sexual And Gender Identity
In the LGBTQ community, there is a tendency to use labels to define oneself. Many find comfort in
these titles; they know that, with the existence of a name, there is a community with likeminded
people out there in the world. This can mean an unexplainable amount to someone if they feel alone
in their sexual or genderidentity. A label can contain a very reassuring message: you are not
alone. Because of this, many people depend on these labels to understand who they are, without
considering the damage that restriction that may do. According to queer theory developed by
Judith Butler, a respected expert in the field, there is fluidity to the way one identifies. In this
case, fluidity refers to not having a clear definition of a person s sexual or gender orientation.
The film Soldier s Girl is a great example of where clear sexual and gender identity only serve to
confuse the main protagonists. The story revolves around the murder of Private First Class Barry
Winchell in Fort Campbell, Kentucky because he fell in love with a trans woman. The intense and
heart wrenching story, based on a real life event, really displays just how different sexual orientation
could be viewed from wildly varied perspectives.
Barry Winchell, as a character, plays into the typical role of a straight American man. Winchell
was born and raised in Missouri, loves his family and his country, and works hard to fit in with his
fellow infantrymen. The normalcy of him and his life help to show how

Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides
Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides is a book about Calliope Cal Stephanides. In the beginning of the
book, Cal, as he likes to be referred to as, tells us about his condition. Cal has a 5 Alpha Reductase
pseudohermaphrodite which is, simply put, a condition that affects the sexual development of
males before the birth of the child and also during puberty. In Middlesex, incestuous marriages
were secretly accepted among the villagers which resulted in Cal being conceived by cousins.
Before Cal s birth, the tradition of his family was genderprediction by his grandmother,
Desdemona Stephanides. It seemed to be a traditional thing for the family from the Greek roots.
When it was time to predict Tessie s, Cal s mother, baby, Desdemona declared that the child would
be a boy. Milton, Cal s father, disagreed because there was no way the baby could be a boy
scientifically. This could also be based on the fact that Tessie and Milton wanted a baby girl. Until
the age of sixteen, Cal was raised as a girl even though he had a male brain biologically.
The fact that Calliope was a child of incest was a huge factor on why he was born with the
condition he was born with. 5 Alpha Reductace, as stated earlier, is a condition in which people
are born male but their bodies fail to produce enough dihydrotestosterone (DHT). A shortage of
DHT disrupts the formation of external sex organs before birth which is why it is understandable
that Cal s parents raised him as a girl. The thing is,

Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death
Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man
complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is
upholding the values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that
he was right: Modern technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to
avoid engaging in public discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with
a number of other social critics of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as
perilous), according to Postman, is the fact that many modern technologies and the social habits
that accompany them, discourage any inner dialogue as well so that both private and public
lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at least this is an arguable point: Whether or not
it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably again) dependent on the form of the
technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the individual. Television had a certain
magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power to entrance those who gathered
around it in suburban living rooms. This was equally true of the range of computer based
technologies. However, and this is in large measure true of all technologies, as the virtual world
has surrounded us in more and more layers, at least some of us have become more adept at using
technologies like Facebook without ceding our ability to be critical about

Silence And The Avoidance Of Persecution
Silence and the Avoidance of Persecution
In the film Silence, the characters of Kichijiro, Rodrigues, and Ferreira illustrate the idea that a
person s outward actions fail at conveying their inward beliefs. Throughout the film, Kichijiro
consistently claims that he is a Christian but then denies Christ whenever serious opposition arises.
However, the film uses the discovery of Kichijiro s crucifix at the end of the film and his
continuous declarations to Father Rodrigues of, Forgive me Father for I have sinned, as a method
of suggesting that even though Kichijiro outwardly apostated many times, he still had a strong faith
on the inside. Moreover, the character of Rodrigues extends the film s theme through the line, Even
if God had been silent my whole life to this very day everything I do, everything I ve done, speaks
of Him, and through his possession of a crucifix when his body underwent cremation. The
aforementioned quote and the possession of the crucifix illustrate that even though Rodrigues
committed the act of apostasy he never truly apostatized in his heart. Finally, when the fallen priest
Ferreira mentions to Rodrigues, Only our Lord can judge your heart, it evidences that even though
Ferreira openly apostated and helped the Japanese in their attempt at attaining Rodrigues apostasy,

Analysis Of The Poem The Stranger
In many works of literature, poetry and art, the sun is used to represent life, divine beauty and
strength. In the poem Ah! Sunflower by William Blake for example, the sun represents joy and life.
In the novel The Stranger, the author Albert Camus uses the sun in the opposite manner, making it
serve as a negative motif throughout the novel. Conversely, Camus uses the sea as a motif to
represent the positive and pleasurable feelings that Meursault actually wants to feel. The motifs of
the sun and sea serves as representations of Meursault s absurdist behaviors. Absurdismis the idea
that humanity must live in a world that is and will forever be hostile or indifferent towards them.
The universe will never truly care for humanity the way we seem to want it to (Cite). The physical
world in general contributes to Meursault s characterization. When he should be experiencing a
rational feelingor emotion, Meursault becomes aware of the physical world around him. His
awareness of the physical world becomes intense in times of negative events or pleasurable ones.
Camus uses simple and short sentences to describe the natural world. This emphasizes the
simplicity of nature, along with the simplicity of Meursault s character, which demonstrates how
close his relationship with nature is. Meursault s sensitivity to nature contributes to why he can
relate to it easier that he can to humans or society. He feels as if he can connect with it more. The
sun and sea serve as tools for

The Importance Of Freedom Rides
Imagine how it would feel if you were not allowed to go into the same bathroom as everyone
else, if you were told to sit in a cut off section of a restaurant, or if you were made to sit on the
back of a public bus. African Americans had to endure that way of life majority of the 20th
century. They did not get the same equal rights as any other human beings in America(Lifson).
Because of the mistreatment, African Americans began to take a stand and speak out on the
injustices they face everyday just because of the color of their skin, and it began a powerful
movement. They had multiple protest to push for equal rights: sit ins, marches, bus boycotts, etc. In
the 1960s an organization called Congress of Racial Equality, or C.O.R.E., began a... Show more

. C.O.R.E., started in the early 1940 s, is an organization founded on a college campus as a spinoff
of the Pacifist fellowship of reconciliation(Histor/Watch). James Farmer, C.O.R.E. s first black
national director, was the man who organized the new generation of freedom rides(the freedom
rides 1961). He was a civil rights activist/leader who pushed for non violence protests. C.O.R.E. s
goals when starting the freedom rides was to desegregate interstate transportation facilities in the
south in a nonviolent way. C.O.R.E recruited young college students to go on this journey(core
online). They knew that residents in the south would not react well to what they were trying to do,
so they prepared the recruits like football coaches prepare their players to get tackled. C.O.R.E
practiced role playing situations with the recruits to train them on what would be said/what would
be done to them. While role playing, hateful things would be said and the students would even be
physically harmed. The preparation was emotionally and physically rough, but it was nothing
compared to what these riders would have to go through(freedom riders. pbs)
On May 4th, 1961, 13 civil rights activist set off on two interstate bus terminals: Greyhound and
Trailways(core online). The riders would protest against segregation at each stop along the way.

Persuasive Essay On Unfair Prejudice
People have been unfairly judged since the beginnings of time, everyday someone out there is
being bullied, unfairly harmed because of their race, or unprivileged because of their race or
cultural background. Whether they were the victims or the bullies everyone has at one point
experienced some form of inconsiderate judgement in their lives. It is no surprise that people
have been unfairly judged for hundreds of years now. There has been many cases of racism all
over the world. From slavery and the racial segregation of African Americans in the U.S, to the
Holocaust and persecution of jews in WWII, people all over the world have been discriminated
for their appearance. Historically the practice of unfair prejudice has been around for centuries.
Although discrimination has significantly decreased over time it is still something we see in
today s society and many people have to deal with the disadvantages it brings. Currently, the U.S
is the most discriminative nation towards other cultural minorities and it has even come to a
point where policemen in the U.S have been questioned for their actions. This is shown in many
cases when people of color have been killed without evidence of hostile behavior towards the
authorities and this has stirred up a lot of controversy over the past few years. Many diverse ethnic
groups have evidently been conflicted by unfair prejudice across the U.S. A group that has been
conflicted by this are citizens of Middle Eastern descent, after the

The Similarities between Angelina Jolie and Beowulf Essay
Throughout time, heroes have stereotypically been described as men who possess qualities such
as courage, strength, leadership, and determination. Certainly, many of these characteristics have
changed as time has passed. In modern society, heroes can simply be average people who
sacrifice their own happiness for the welfare of others and do their best to create a change in the
world. Beowulf, an extraordinary warrior in the Anglo Saxon period, is an epic herobecause of his
pride, strength and courage. He fought many battles in order to protect the Danes from chaos.
Angelina Jolie, like Beowulf, is a hero because she defeats every impediment to help and fight
against inequality. Heroes do not wait still in one place.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not give up while fighting with the brawny monster Grendel, even though Grendel clutched
at [him] with his claws (Beowulf 428). According to Milena Veselinovico, the author of leading
women, Angelina Jolie has risked her life to protect refugees in many countries in Africa. She went
to Sudan during a tremendous conflict and Chad during the civil war. She could have been
assassinated, but her thirst of justice could not be sate easily; she kept helping no matter the
circumstances. In able to be a hero, one must be internally strong to triumph obstacles life brings
and never back down when conflicts arrive.
Heroes often combat injustice to win equality and peace. Beowulf saves the Danes by fighting the
monster Grendel, but Angelina Jolie saves refugees by fighting the figurative monster of
inequality. In the mead hall, the place the Anglo Saxon warriors celebrated their battles, everyone
was terrified to fight Grendel because he was powerful and seemingly undefeatable. Beowulf
fought the abominable beast and obtained the glory of tranquility for the Danes because he wanted
to live in greatness and courage (368 369). Angelina Jolie keeps fighting with the invincible
monster of inequality that is happening in some parts of Africa and gives part of her fortune to
refugees who suffer from hunger and persecution. A hero does not need to fight a monster,
sometimes the injustice is the monster itself.

Cesar Chavez Boycotts
Throughout history many people have fought for civil rights in different ways. These historical
figures can help show how to fight for civil rights today. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor
worker fought for civil rights through boycotts and marches. Methods such as those used by
Cesar Chavez are just some ways people can fight for civil rights today. One effective way to
fight for civil rights are boycotts. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker, fought for the
rights of immigrant farm workers through boycotts and marches. Ultimately, Cesar Chavez lead
a successful boycott against California table grapes to fight for the rights of immigrant farm
workers. Through boycotting unjust companies or ideas Cesar Chavez was able to achieve his
goal of immigrant farm workers gaining rights.( 1984 Cesar Chavez... ) This provides evidence
that boycotts can work and be successful. Although boycotts are not the only way you can fight
for civil rights, there are other successful methods. There are other examples to support boycotts in
being a good way to fight for civil rights such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The boycotts began
in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest the segregated seating on buses of African Americans, and
famously saw Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat to a white man.... Show more content on

Marches are often an effective way to protest something. During the Civil Rights Movement
Martin Luther King Jr. and other participants fought for rights by marching. He would march in a
nonviolent way to gain the support of the people. Through these marches King gained lots of
attention to shine the light on the issue of the rights of African Americans. Cesar chavez also lead
many marches often to protest and raise awareness of issue such as immigrant farm workers
rights. Through protesting people can express their beliefs in a nonviolent way in order to raise

Chinatown ( 1974 ), Falls Under The Category Of Film Noir...
Chinatown Critique Essay The film Chinatown (1974), falls under the category of Film Noir
Style. The film s basis its plot on corruption scandals, which shed light on dark secrets and very
unfortunate events around the Cross Family, Evelyn Cross and her Father and John Cross (John
Huston), who is the center figure of the plot, and a private investigator Jake Gittes (Jack
Nicholson). The central of the plot is a charge of conspiracy of the corruption between,
politicians, Mr. Cross, and the police department corruption, that started in the less hopeless
Chinatown, and now has ramifications in every sphere of L.A city. The history of the plot comes
from a real life event, The 1908 Owned River scandal and the administration of the department of
water during this scandal. The film started with Gitte, hired as a private investigator by a socialite
beauty Faye Dunaway, to investigate her husband Hollis (a chief engineer), played by Darrel
Zwerling. The mise en scene and the film are elaborated and directed by Roman Polansky (director)
and Robert Towne (screenplay). In cinematography, one of the more important elements is the mise
en scene. Due to the fact, that it keeps the audience emotional and psychological involve in the plot.
As can be appreciated in Chinatown (Polansky, 1974), in this plot Polansky utilized several
elements to create in the audience a double crosser twist, through the corruption and immoral
activities portrayed during the film. In general, the motion

Preface
The Impact of Information Technology on the Workforce of the Future
To determine the impact of information technology on the workforce of the future, I conducted a
study using an historical perspective on the use of information technology in the workplace and by
the workforce.
This study also considered recent trends in workforce management such as telecommuting,
globalization, outsourcing, and off shoring activities. The results of this study revealed that
technological advances in office equipment over the past thirty years have enabled organizations to
improve operating efficiencies, improve communications, reduce costs, increase their global
presence, and gain competitive advantage through the implementation of information ... Show more

Computers loaded with word processing, spreadsheet analysis and presentation software programs
have become standard fixtures on each employee s desk. Some of the workforce became mobile,
conducting business outside of the traditional office settings through the use of Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs), cellular phones and laptop computers. The initial users of mobile technology
were salespeople and executive management; however, easier access to the Internet allowed more
employees to become telecommuters, who conducted work related activities either from their
homes or from some other remote location.
Technological advances in electronic communication may continue to decrease the need for
traditional office setting while increasing the number of telecommuters. Electronic capabilities will
also continue to affect outsourcing, off shoring and globalization efforts by many organizations.
Collaboration technologies, currently being enhanced by Microsoft and IBM, may enable
companies to conduct virtual meetings in the near future. In a virtual meeting, employees from
remote locations conduct real time meetings from their own computers using peer to peer software.
Participants can see one another on computer screens, share computer space and make changes to
product designs or contract documents via a virtual whiteboard.

Disadvantages Of Charismatic Leadership
Charismatic leaders have been the boon and the bane of humanity for as long as recorded
human history illustrates. Most people agree that charisma can be a double edged sword
capable of producing both positive and negative outcomes. (Lussier, Achua, 20216) This is
where we as humans wonder about our existence. We lead and we are led. Some successes are
recorded while many failures fall by the wayside. Still, there are some successes we would rather
not have experienced. There is a game which children have played over the years. The game is
aptly named, Would You Rather . In this game, one asks the group, Would you rather meet your
demise by ...? The choices are generally between two equally horrific or disgusting ways your life

The assigned value to each leader is directly linked to the values instilled in or owned by the
beholder. Magnificence is esteemed in saving other humans from a demise such as death. We
may presume that Oskar Schindler is a hero. This was established by Schindler risking his life,
liberty, and property to save as many Jewish people as he could from the horrors of genocide
during World War II. Although, when we further look into his life, he was a human with his
human frailties some might consider sins. We learn that Schindler did not actually create a list as
was made popular in the movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Instead, Marcel Goldberg, a Jewish
clerk assigned to the new Plaszow commandant Arnold Buscher, played the largest role in
compiling the transport list. It is generally agreed that Buscher, an SS officer, could not have
cared, within certain numerical limits, who went on the list, according to Thomas Keneally. It s
also agreed that Goldberg engaged in a certain amount of corruption in who he added to the list
and, moreover, that there was not even one list but rather different lists that emerged over a series
of months. (Anderson, 2014) Contrary to popular beliefs, Schindler was an ordinary business man
who, being at the right time and right place in history, evolved from having monetary interests, into
the interest of saving Jewish people from the horrors of the concentration camps. As we consider
the greatness of saving human

think how long is she going to gasp? Dad finally got there and started talking to her; as he did
she stopped gasping and said look at the blue birds. Dad looked at me and grandmother because
the blinds to her room were closed and so were her eyes. Mom was almost at peace I think.

Research Paper On Catholic Faith
Criterion A: Rationale and Preliminary Research
The biggest living figure in the Catholic Faith is the Pope, who leads us everyday by spreading
and giving God s word. The Pope brings us closer to God in many different spiritual ways. The
topic I have chosen to pursue is, how someone can become the Pope. One of the main reasons I
have chosen this topic is because I am a very dedicated catholic and have been practicing my
religion since I could ever remember. Our current Pope right now is a inspiration to me and it
really makes me interested in what it takes to become Pope because when I listen to him speak I
can see how confident he is and how much courage he has, and that is what strong leaders are made

There are about 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide that make up almost sixteen percent of the total
world Population. (BBC News) That is a tremendous amount of people. The Pope rules over all of
those people in the organization known as The Catholic Church. Becoming Pope is no simple task
by any means. Even when it seems that someone is very close to becoming the next Pope, the
percentage of them actually becoming Pope is very slim. In fact, just the odds of becoming Pope
of someone is a cardinal is less then one percent, and you must become a cardinal to be elected
Pope. The odds are not in anybody favor as they are 1,000 to 1(Kristi Barlette, Times Union, 12
Feb, 2013). Although. There are few steps to becoming Pope; each step is a long, difficult
practice. First, a person must be a male and he must eventually become Catholic. The next step
is to get an education, for religious studies and other academic subjects as well. Then, the person
must become a priest. He must do a good job in his parish and connect with the community. After
the person has spent some time and earned a great deal of respect from other people, he will be
addressed as Monsignor . He will then be put in for a promotion where he will prove if he is
worthy to continue to the next step of the process, becoming a Bishop. The Bishop will continue to

Kilauea Volcano
Tony McGee

(Environmental Science)
Dec 16, 2015
The Kilauea Volcano is the youngest volcano on Hawaii s Big Island. Because when viewed
from above it seems tiny in comparison to the neighboring volcano Mauna Loa, Kilauea was
originally believed to simply be a satellite of Mauna Loa instead of a distinct volcano. Research that
has taken place during the last decades, however, shows that not only is Kilauea a separate volcano,
but its magna plumbing system actually goes over 60 kilometers deep into the earth. The Kilauea
Volcano sits on a curved line made up of other volcanoes such as Kohala and Mauna Kea.
Description
The highest point on the Kilauea Volcano is slightly less than 4,200 feet. In addition, it has a
large caldera at the summit that is 3 kilometers by 5 kilometers wide at the main depression but
is 6 kilometers by 6 kilometers at the outermost faults and goes down 165 meters deep. The
entire area of the volcano is 552 square meters. The oldest rocks found on the volcano date back
23,000 years and scientists estimate that the first eruption occurred between 300,000 and 600,000
years ago. Despite this, about 90% of the basaltic shield volcano found on the surface is made from
lava flows that occurred less than 1000 years ago while 70% of the actual volcano s surface is
600 years old or younger. The volcano gets its name, Kilauea, from the Hawaiian word meaning
much spreading or spewing, referencing the frequent lava flows.

Being Blind Vs. Being Blind In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Being Blind vs Being Blind
A person who is medically blind can still see, and a person with 20/20 vision can be just as blind
or even more than a person who is medically blind. In Raymond Carver s short story Cathedral
the narrator is waiting for his wife s old friend to arrive. However, he is not very thrilled with
him visiting because this man, Robert, is blind. The narrator is very ignorant in what he knows
about blind people, and of the comments he makes about Robert or blind people in general. The
narrator is ignorant because simply put, he does not know or have any understanding of blind
people. (add something about Robert being able to see more) In the beginning of Cathedral, the
narrator states things that make it obvious that he knows nothing about blind people. From the
beginning of the story, he is put off by the arrival of Robert. In the first paragraph of the story,
the narrator says, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being
blind bothered me (Cite book). He was bothered merely by this man having a physical disability
of not being able to see. One could even go as far to say that the narrator was discriminating
against Robert, in this case, that would be called Ableism. Ableism has been defined to include
overt discrimination against people with disabilities, the notion that people with disabilities are
inferior to non disabled people, and the idea that a person s disability is a defining character
flaw (Neely Barnes). The narrator makes assumptions about Robert and his life. He thinks that
because Robert is blind he cannot live a life as say he himself can. After explaining that Robert s
wife had passed and he had to bury her, the narrator goes on to explain how awful it must have
been to marry a blind man and at the end of the story he says, Pathetic (Cite book). He called
Roberts s life and relationship with his wife Beulah, pathetic all because he was blind.
The narrator of Cathedral had many misconceptions about the blind. Mainly because he didn t
know anything about them. For example, he said, My idea of blindness came from the movies...A
blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Cite book). If everyone based all

Old Yeller Analysis
Old Yeller is a coming of age novel set in 1860s Texas that details the relationship between the
Coates family, especially the 14 year old son, Travis, and a stray dog named Old Yeller. The dog
is named both for his dingy yellow coat ( yeller as pronounced in the southern accent that
permeates the narrative) and his bark, which sounds more like a yell than the standard animal call.
Yeller comes into the Coates familys life after Jim, the father of the family, leaves on a cattle drive
to Kansas. Before he leaves, Jim tells Travis that he is now the man of the house until he returns
home, a designation which motivates Travis to take responsibility and make sacrifices for the
good of his family. If Travis can prove himself worthy of the designation of being a man, his father
promises to give him a man s horse.
Although the Coates family is at the center of the narrative, it is Travis relationship with Yeller that
is the focus. When Yeller is first introduced, Travis not only finds him to be a nuisance but actively
despises him. The first time the dog is seen by Travis and the reader is the day after Jim has left
the family. Yeller has devoured a piece of meat that the family was about to prepare for a meal.
Yeller continues to cause trouble, with only younger brother Arliss devotion to him keeping Travis
from pushing him away from the household.
Travis changes his stance only after Yeller displays his singular heroism and instinct. Arliss, for
whom collecting critters is

  • 2. Sex Education And Sexual Education How can sexual education programs be improved to further improve the health of a country? INTRODUCTION Sex education has become increasingly normalised in the twenty first century. Attitudes to sex have evolved as society becomes more open to discussions about relationships and sexual health. Simultaneously, the rate of teen pregnancy has dropped since the previous generation, suggesting that either teenagers are having sex later, or using contraception more effectively. As sex education is prevalent, however not compulsory in many of today s high schools, the country must question the value of this program and the impacts on the students who undertake it. The sexual health of an individual is intrinsically connected to the overall physical and mental health of the country. The health of individuals makes up the health of a population it seems quite clear that, in a perfect world, sexual education would improve national health. Countries around the world have different attitudes towards sex education, and opinions on the most effective way to teach it and the overall health of these populations is equally as diverse. Australia as a nation must investigate the effects of sexual education, to ensure its program is the most effective. COMPARE DIFFERENT TACTICS ROUND THE WORLD European countries have the lowest rates of teen pregnancies, with fewer than four births per thousand. These countries include Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. These countries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Questions On The Word Equity Introduction The word equity has numerous meanings and to various people it is a symbol of fairness or justice. The origin of equity can be traced to the deficiencies of the common law. Beyond question, common law had flaws where any solution is unavailable or where there was an availability of a remedy but it was not fit for the plaintiff loss. Moreover, the common law was studded with formality. If two parties engage in a verbal contract in case of common law, common law under no circumstances will spot the contract not provide any remedy to it. This was one of the major flaws because whatever be the circumstances. In many cases equity stepped up and provided remedies irrespective of the fact that there was a lack of formality. The main... • 5. Mormon Cult Research Paper The Mormon Cult They all wear weird under garments. They are racist. They practice polygamy. They are a cult. Women are discriminated against. These are some of the controversies I have picked up on throughout my life when those who did not practice the religion brought up Mormons. I ve had two insights into the Mormon religion; one being my trip to the Kansas City temple and another being family friend s with one some might call a hard core Mormon . After many years of these assumptions I finally acted on my curiosity when I was granted the opportunity after a friend invited me to join them for their service. On impulse, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a look into this foreign religion. After my invitation, I waited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I could feel everyone s eyes on mine but directed my attention to Brother Johnston, hoping he wouldn t take my random outburst negatively. That s actually not true in today s world, he replied kindly. He went on to explain that those who would practice polygamy would become excommunicated. According to scriptures, the Lord had commanded some to do so for various reasons (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon) and they believe that in Heaven polygamy is practiced. Anything else you d like to ask? He went on to say. Well yes, I have twenty million other questions I d like answers to. This is going to sound really weird, but do you guys all wear the same underwear every day? He burst out laughing at my question and looked at the other girls who were laughing under their breaths as well. In that moment I hated myself for being so curious, and quickly said Never mind! No its ok, he replied, Our church is very big on modesty. After a couple is sealed (married) in the temple they are given garments, underwear and a T shirt, that you wear under everything. In some cases, employees feel that the employer is only making decisions that will benefit him and the business itself. Employers should operate their businesses and make a profit, but they should also consider how business operations affect. Employees need to be included in a strategy to formulate a union free organizations. In order to do so, employers should hold employees meetings, develop communication, provide managementtrainings, and let employees know where the employers stands with Unions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pro company: Company sometimes chose to run their own campaign. For example, try to convince employees that their benefits are much greater without the interference of a Union. You have rights, buts: Companies may force employees to vote against a union, but at the same time, remind employees that the decision is solely up to them. Almost all companies are entitled for union organization, but it is up to the employer to take crucial steps that may prevent this from taking place. Employees join Unions because they don t feel satisfaction with management, poor working conditions and the company is alleged to mistreat employees. Strategies that help discourage union are: reasonable pay and benefits, open communication with employees, acknowledgement, and fair work and practice policies. From my short experience working as a HR assistant, I have learned that it is important that employers need to have complete knowledge of the labor law before a Union knocks on the door. It is important to train supervisors. Supervisors may commit an unlawful practice if they are not properly training. Clear communication with supervisors will empower supervisors to do their best. • 8. Catullus 32 Analysis For this assignment, I did the translation of Catullus 32. Within this poem, the author uses a sexual tone. Originally, in the poem, it s a guy talking to a woman who people think is a prostitute, but throughout the poem, it s a love poem to Ipsitilla. Within the original poem, the reader can see how the author created their own word fuckification , how the tone starts to change into more of lust, not loving about Ipsitillia, and also it s demanding in the way he wants her to come see him. With this poem, people throughout the years have translated it, and somewhat changed it up a little bit, but it s amazing to see how another person how they look at the poem and interpret it. For example, in Translation 14, written in 1914 by C. Sesar, he states and let me take a nap with you, (line 3); out of all the translations, Sesar is the only one to add that ... With the translation I did I put a spin on it so I changed up the speakers, and I made it to the point of view of a woman talking to a guy, and I made it as they were in love and not just a fling. I guess by changing the male and female role you can stay the poem is not the same anymore, but instead, I said it was a woman talking to this guy about how much she wants him and cares for him. That was the same thing the original poem was trying a convey, but it just showed it from a male s point of view. Also, I took some of the more sexual words out, and instead of trying to show a loving relationship between the two saying it s something deeper than what comes to the surface. In my opinion, in the original poem and some of the translations it came off as lust for the woman, but I wanted to take that in a way to show a loving relationship and how these two people can t wait to meet up and see one another. From my rough draft to the revised translation I really didn t take anything out I just added some lines so it could flow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Arabic Language As A Language Irfan Rifai is a name adopted from Arabic language that means wisdom and noble respectively. My father told me that the name given to me because he wanted me to grow up being a wise and a noble man. Well, I hope that I have not disappointed him. Arabic does not function as a second language in Indonesia, but being predominantly populated by Muslims, Arabic is taught in the early age for the purposes of praying and reading the holy Quran. Unless we have enrolled in Islamic boarding school, Arabic language has not generally been taught or used for communication sake. I learned Arabic literacy at the same time that I learned to read and write in my first language. As a kid, I spent my time studying at formal school from 7 am to 12 pm and had informal school where I learned Arabic literacy afterward until 4 pm. With such a busy schedule of schooling, I still wonder what went wrong that I was only capable of reading both in Arabic and Indonesian fluently only when I was at my 2nd grade of school. Was it that I was too young to enter elementary school? I was registered at elementary school when I was only 5 years old because there was no kindergarten at the time and place where I lived as a young boy. Was it the methods that my teacher used or was it that I did not have enough exposures to prints or reading habits in the family? • 10. Budget Cuts And Its Effects On Society Imagine world that is bland, along with its individuals all the selfsame. In result of the reprehension of creative courses in academia. That previously mentioned world would soon become an actuality. When budget cuts were accruing in my school district; I remembered my fine arts teachers were petrified that not only their department would cease to exist but they would no longer have an occupation. There is a constant reminder of how paramount the sciences and mathematics are; but the fine artssuch as music, ceramics, art, and all the other courses that allow creative freedom are important as well. As in consequence of our troubling economy, budget cuts were inevitable. In the year 2008, more than eighty percent of schools nationwide had received budget cuts. Music and theater classes were cut to the full extent along with some art programs. Within the late 90s and early 2000s schools had theatre and dance classes available, ranging in the twenty percentile. Currently, that percent has dropped drastically to two percent. These are just brief statistics on the outcome of budget cuts and how quickly the outcome is the demise of the fine arts in schools nationwide. A student who does not enjoy the fundamental classes might not find interest in going to school. The innovated minds that find tranquility in a music class or rather a basic art class is more likely to look forward to attending school the next day. Fine arts enhance the mind. In the regression analysis for this model it was determined that it was able to explain approximately 90% of the variability in past sales. Adjustments to this forecasting model can be made by incorporating overall economic climate projections, long term weather forecasts, and commodity market futures. • 17. The Political System Of Portugal Essay Portugal is a country that has a political system similar to several countries that have been discussed in class. The current political system is a semi presidential democracy with an symmetrical legislature, and it is a unitary government. There are different branches and chambers with different powers that attempts to keep a balance of powers among the different branches. The current political system is the result of many revolutions and evolutions the country went through over time. Around the years 1974 1976, the country went through a transitional period where it moved from an authoritarian government to a military based rule and then took a leap to a representative democracy . These big transitions were the result of the Carnation Revolution in Lisbon on April 25, 1974 (Huffington Post). Another important event was when Portugal joined the European Union, this allowed for more import and export opportunities as well as access to more well developed political systems which led to the country becoming a less communist based system (Europa). The year 1995 was the start of a socialist led political system under the power of AntПЊnio Gutteres. He helped the country form strong ties with the United States which led to more evolution of the country and its policies. Ever since the Carnation Revolution, the socialist party has been in the forefront of all the political parties and has been the most popular majority since 1975. The simulation of this lab is based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the shell shape and thickness of the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He saw that the shells had changed drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high spiraled with thin walls. Compared to the shells found after 1884 were low spiraled with thick walls. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but when does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so they won t be eaten by the crabs. In our experiment (McRae; Snails), we were asked to see how the snails evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of the population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still evolve if all the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the offspring would not be identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw a more variety in the population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of target and getting eaten more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to choose which snails I wanted to eat, being as I was the crab. I went for the ones that were easier to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. How Leisure Reading Does More Harm Than Good Essay Over the decades people have used leisure reading as a form of escapism, however people have constantly debated whether or not such a method should be allowed. There are other ways one can release tension and stress, and thus some people feel that such a practice can lead to faulty outcomes. However, while some believe that it can cause more harm than good, experts have proven that leisurereading is in fact beneficial. As such it, helps individuals to gain a sense of morality, strengthens one s vocabulary, provides an easy way to release stress, learn new ideas and concepts, as well as connect with characters. In an article, Locked in Literacy: Why Reading isn t Always Good for you, Leo Robson explains how leisure reading does more harm than good. While leisure reading may be seen as a form of escape into another dimension, it in actuality could become more of a prison, designed to keep the mind trapped in between the pages of a fictional world. There are other ways one could spend their time, for example, there are talents to learn, and skills to develop. And even though reading has its uses gaining more information on specific topics, scientific research, and cultural backgrounds it shouldn t be used as a method to understand life. In fact, life should be the way to understand reading as writing stems from the experience of others. Reading for pleasure should not be encouraged, as reading should only be used to acquire information no matter how boring or uninteresting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Punk Singer Critical Analysis Turn your TV off Feminist Punk from a Postmodern Perspective Following the life of Kathleen Hanna, the film The Punk Singer (Sini Anderson, 2013, UK) the viewer gets an insight into the beginning and advance of the feminist punk Riot Grrrl movement. Alongside the development of postmodernism, identity politics arose in importance as a way to challenge the increase in social alienation which emerged as a result of industrialism and that was widely accepted as a reality in modernism. The content of punk as a music genre confronts the elitism created by industrialisation and the diminishing number of corporations providing mass media. By rejecting mainstream content and forming close communities based on a shared identity such as being a woman oppressed by the patriarchy Kathleen Hanna and her first band Bikini Kill recognized the very foundations of social structure and the means of theorizing social relations and culture. It was a reaction to being starved to death, culturally . Postmodernism is concerned with subjectivity and the plurality that is individual experience of truth. An example in this clip is when Coach Boone walks in to acknowledge the team, you do not hear his footsteps or the sound of his whistle around his neck hitting against the fabric of his shirt. The director has done this to put more emphasis on his actions, not the sound his presence is making for example, if there was an excess of sound effects for every minute sound made would distract the audience who would not be able to focus in on his paltry movement which have considerable meaning to the scene, an example of this would be the way Coach Boone walks up to the team, his whistle is swinging from side to side making no sound, you can see he is in an angry state with no sound intensifying this fact. • 35. The Political Strategy Of Versailles And Versailles Just as he did with his ballet performances, Louis continued to infuse theatricality into his political strategy by creating spectacles that captured his nobles attention and demonstrated their king s immense power to them. Principally, there was Versailles, which represents the most tangible example of Louis use of spectacles to establish and flaunt power. In Louis political strategy of utilizing spectacle, perception was reality, and he used France s perception of him to validate and reinforce the reality of his power. Versailles represented a concrete way to constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense. Just as Louis was the Sun King, Versailles was the sun palace, brimming with solar symbolism. Again, art became potent political propaganda. Furthermore, Louis used Versailles to throw magnificent parties, spectacles that served as tools to control his nobles conception of their monarch. In short, Versailles was festivity remembered. The most famous of these parties, The Pleasures of the Enchanted Isle, occurred in 1664. This festival told the story of a sorceress who enchants a troupe of knights, and the function of the festival itself followed much the same storyline. Through the extravagance of the festival, Louis much like the sorceress enchanted his court with a dizzying series of fascinating spectacles [that] demonstrated the magic of royal power. While Versailles and its accompanying festivities represented artistic means through which Louis reinforced his power, he also utilized more practical spectacles. During his reign, Louis grew the French army tremendously from only a few thousand men to over 100,00 men in peacetime and over 400,000 men in war time. Obviously, this growth had practical reasons, as a bellicose ruler demands a large army, but it also demonstrates Louis innate ability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many find comfort in these titles; they know that, with the existence of a name, there is a community with likeminded people out there in the world. This can mean an unexplainable amount to someone if they feel alone in their sexual or genderidentity. A label can contain a very reassuring message: you are not alone. Because of this, many people depend on these labels to understand who they are, without considering the damage that restriction that may do. According to queer theory developed by Judith Butler, a respected expert in the field, there is fluidity to the way one identifies. In this case, fluidity refers to not having a clear definition of a person s sexual or gender orientation. The film Soldier s Girl is a great example of where clear sexual and gender identity only serve to confuse the main protagonists. The story revolves around the murder of Private First Class Barry Winchell in Fort Campbell, Kentucky because he fell in love with a trans woman. The intense and heart wrenching story, based on a real life event, really displays just how different sexual orientation could be viewed from wildly varied perspectives. • 39. Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides is a book about Calliope Cal Stephanides. In the beginning of the book, Cal, as he likes to be referred to as, tells us about his condition. Cal has a 5 Alpha Reductase pseudohermaphrodite which is, simply put, a condition that affects the sexual development of males before the birth of the child and also during puberty. In Middlesex, incestuous marriages were secretly accepted among the villagers which resulted in Cal being conceived by cousins. Before Cal s birth, the tradition of his family was genderprediction by his grandmother, Desdemona Stephanides. It seemed to be a traditional thing for the family from the Greek roots. When it was time to predict Tessie s, Cal s mother, baby, Desdemona declared that the child would be a boy. Milton, Cal s father, disagreed because there was no way the baby could be a boy scientifically. This could also be based on the fact that Tessie and Milton wanted a baby girl. Until the age of sixteen, Cal was raised as a girl even though he had a male brain biologically. The fact that Calliope was a child of incest was a huge factor on why he was born with the condition he was born with. 5 Alpha Reductace, as stated earlier, is a condition in which people are born male but their bodies fail to produce enough dihydrotestosterone (DHT). A shortage of DHT disrupts the formation of external sex organs before birth which is why it is understandable that Cal s parents raised him as a girl. The thing is, ... • 40. Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is upholding the values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that he was right: Modern technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to avoid engaging in public discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with a number of other social critics of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as perilous), according to Postman, is the fact that many modern technologies and the social habits that accompany them, discourage any inner dialogue as well so that both private and public lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at least this is an arguable point: Whether or not it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably again) dependent on the form of the technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the individual. Television had a certain magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power to entrance those who gathered around it in suburban living rooms. This was equally true of the range of computer based technologies. However, and this is in large measure true of all technologies, as the virtual world has surrounded us in more and more layers, at least some of us have become more adept at using technologies like Facebook without ceding our ability to be critical about ... That is why many people are perplexed that such an astute person should have one of the most controversial elections and presidencies ever. Considering Hayes honorable principles, it came as a surprise to see how he could unknowingly make a decision about reconstruction where its effects were so blatantly derogatory to the cause he was trying to help. amp;#9;The controversy began when he was merely running for office. Hayes was running against Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. When the ballots were tallied in 1876, Hayes clearly lost the popular vote, and had lost the electoral vote 184 to 165 . However, twenty votes ... Throughout the film, Kichijiro consistently claims that he is a Christian but then denies Christ whenever serious opposition arises. However, the film uses the discovery of Kichijiro s crucifix at the end of the film and his continuous declarations to Father Rodrigues of, Forgive me Father for I have sinned, as a method of suggesting that even though Kichijiro outwardly apostated many times, he still had a strong faith on the inside. Moreover, the character of Rodrigues extends the film s theme through the line, Even if God had been silent my whole life to this very day everything I do, everything I ve done, speaks of Him, and through his possession of a crucifix when his body underwent cremation. The aforementioned quote and the possession of the crucifix illustrate that even though Rodrigues committed the act of apostasy he never truly apostatized in his heart. The film s basis its plot on corruption scandals, which shed light on dark secrets and very unfortunate events around the Cross Family, Evelyn Cross and her Father and John Cross (John Huston), who is the center figure of the plot, and a private investigator Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson). The central of the plot is a charge of conspiracy of the corruption between, politicians, Mr. Cross, and the police department corruption, that started in the less hopeless Chinatown, and now has ramifications in every sphere of L.A city. The history of the plot comes from a real life event, The 1908 Owned River scandal and the administration of the department of water during this scandal. The film started with Gitte, hired as a private investigator by a socialite beauty Faye Dunaway, to investigate her husband Hollis (a chief engineer), played by Darrel Zwerling. The mise en scene and the film are elaborated and directed by Roman Polansky (director) and Robert Towne (screenplay). In cinematography, one of the more important elements is the mise en scene. Due to the fact, that it keeps the audience emotional and psychological involve in the plot. • 57. Kilauea Volcano Tony McGee Mr.Hooker (Environmental Science) Dec 16, 2015 The Kilauea Volcano is the youngest volcano on Hawaii s Big Island. Because when viewed from above it seems tiny in comparison to the neighboring volcano Mauna Loa, Kilauea was originally believed to simply be a satellite of Mauna Loa instead of a distinct volcano. Research that has taken place during the last decades, however, shows that not only is Kilauea a separate volcano, but its magna plumbing system actually goes over 60 kilometers deep into the earth. The Kilauea Volcano sits on a curved line made up of other volcanoes such as Kohala and Mauna Kea. Description The highest point on the Kilauea Volcano is slightly less than 4,200 feet. In addition, it has a large caldera at the summit that is 3 kilometers by 5 kilometers wide at the main depression but is 6 kilometers by 6 kilometers at the outermost faults and goes down 165 meters deep. The entire area of the volcano is 552 square meters. The oldest rocks found on the volcano date back 23,000 years and scientists estimate that the first eruption occurred between 300,000 and 600,000 years ago. Despite this, about 90% of the basaltic shield volcano found on the surface is made from lava flows that occurred less than 1000 years ago while 70% of the actual volcano s surface is 600 years old or younger. The volcano gets its name, Kilauea, from the Hawaiian word meaning much spreading or spewing, referencing the frequent lava flows. Location ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 58. Being Blind Vs. Being Blind In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Being Blind vs Being Blind A person who is medically blind can still see, and a person with 20/20 vision can be just as blind or even more than a person who is medically blind. In Raymond Carver s short story Cathedral the narrator is waiting for his wife s old friend to arrive. However, he is not very thrilled with him visiting because this man, Robert, is blind. The narrator is very ignorant in what he knows about blind people, and of the comments he makes about Robert or blind people in general. The narrator is ignorant because simply put, he does not know or have any understanding of blind people. (add something about Robert being able to see more) In the beginning of Cathedral, the narrator states things that make it obvious that he knows nothing about blind people. From the beginning of the story, he is put off by the arrival of Robert. In the first paragraph of the story, the narrator says, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Cite book). He was bothered merely by this man having a physical disability of not being able to see. One could even go as far to say that the narrator was discriminating against Robert, in this case, that would be called Ableism. Ableism has been defined to include overt discrimination against people with disabilities, the notion that people with disabilities are inferior to non disabled people, and the idea that a person s disability is a defining character flaw (Neely Barnes). The narrator makes assumptions about Robert and his life. He thinks that because Robert is blind he cannot live a life as say he himself can. After explaining that Robert s wife had passed and he had to bury her, the narrator goes on to explain how awful it must have been to marry a blind man and at the end of the story he says, Pathetic (Cite book). He called Roberts s life and relationship with his wife Beulah, pathetic all because he was blind. The narrator of Cathedral had many misconceptions about the blind. Mainly because he didn t know anything about them. For example, he said, My idea of blindness came from the movies...A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Cite book). • 59. Old Yeller Analysis Old Yeller is a coming of age novel set in 1860s Texas that details the relationship between the Coates family, especially the 14 year old son, Travis, and a stray dog named Old Yeller. The dog is named both for his dingy yellow coat ( yeller as pronounced in the southern accent that permeates the narrative) and his bark, which sounds more like a yell than the standard animal call. Yeller comes into the Coates familys life after Jim, the father of the family, leaves on a cattle drive to Kansas. Before he leaves, Jim tells Travis that he is now the man of the house until he returns home, a designation which motivates Travis to take responsibility and make sacrifices for the good of his family. If Travis can prove himself worthy of the designation of being a man, his father promises to give him a man s horse. Although the Coates family is at the center of the narrative, it is Travis relationship with Yeller that is the focus. When Yeller is first introduced, Travis not only finds him to be a nuisance but actively despises him. The first time the dog is seen by Travis and the reader is the day after Jim has left the family. Yeller has devoured a piece of meat that the family was about to prepare for a meal. Yeller continues to cause trouble, with only younger brother Arliss devotion to him keeping Travis from pushing him away from the household. Travis changes his stance only after Yeller displays his singular heroism and instinct. Arliss, for whom collecting critters is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
