Grendel s Three Battles In Beowulf
Throughout the book Beowulf, the titular character takes on many tough, mythological foes for
fame and glory. Beowulf begins by slaying a creature known as Grendel without any trouble, but
with his later opponents he struggles to win and is even harmed. As the story progresses, Beowulf s
battles with monsters escalate in difficulty, cost, and reward. The primary difference between
Beowulfs three battles was the level of difficulty each trial consisted of. With the last battle being
his last and most difficult battle, Beowulf found himself unable to fight it alone. There were,
however, very obvious reasons as to why the dragon was more difficult than the rest of the hero s
battles. At this stage of his life, Beowulf s physical strength was... Show more content on

Beowulf only killed Grendel for the fame and glory, receiving this and Grendel s claw. Beowulf
killed Grendel s mom with the intention of gaining more glory, but also was showered in riches
and gifts. Beowulf drank to these presents not ashamed to be praised (Line 1025) Lastly, the
dragon that was terrorizing his land guarded a tower that was said to be packed with treasure.
However, Beowulf was no longer doing it just for his name and his people. Beowulf was
motivated by the treasure and riches. Because of his motivation, Beowulf s reward was rotten
and spoiled. This is also the real reason he found himself unable to beat the dragon alone. Wiglaf
was able to help because he a genuine intention and wanted to help his king. Beowulf took a
physical trophy away from each fight: the claw, Grendel s head, and the treasure that filled his
grave. Had Beowulf been the almighty hero that he was thought to be, he would have said kind
things to Wiglaf as his last words, talked about any regrets, or named off his favorite people.
Instead he ordered Wiglaf to show him the treasure. Wiglaf had just saved his life and he couldn t
even ask nicely. Beowulf died the way he did because he was a shallow, selfish, self centered,
avaricious, plutomaniac. He could not beat the dragon by himself because he was only fighting for
his personal monetary gain instead of trying to avenge his killed

Differences And The Characteristics Of A Perfect...
Question No.1: What are the characteristics of a perfectly competitive market?
The perfect competitive market is a description of a market where no participants are large enough
to have the market power to set the price of a homogeneous product, this is because the conditions
set for perfect competition are strictly applied.
Realisticly speaking, there are very few, if any, perfectly competitive markets. The closes
comparison would be the buyers and sellers in some auction markets or for financial assets, which
approximate the concept. The perfect competitive market serves as a natural benchmark against
which to contrast other markets.
A perfectly competitive market exhibits the following characteristics:

price, he/she will run at an unnecessary loss.
Freedom of information: There is absolute knowledge borne from widely accessible information

Mexican Food Origin
1.In the US, there are various types of foods whose origin can be traced from the Mexican
recipe. Two of the regional foods that have the original possibility of the Mexico are the Taco
Bell and Burritos. These are prepared using seasoned beef, beans, tangy red sauce, the lettuce,
tomatoes, sour cream and onions. However, the dish is recently replaced with different
ingredients hence giving a different recipe from the original one. In today s Mexican foods
served in the US, the modifications are done on Tacos where the beef served is now grounded,

Racial Stereotyping Of African Americans Essay
Introduction What does it mean to be stereotyped? The definition of stereotype is Stereotyping
may be defined as the tendency to attribute generalized and simplified characteristics to groups of
people in the form of verbal labels, and to act towards the members of those groups in terms of
those labels (Kanahara, 2006) When asked to pick a topic and do a research study, I decided
that the topic of racial stereotyping would be efficient. As I began to watch movies I started to
see a trend. I saw African Americans being portrayed as being violent, uneducated, and ghetto.
European Americans were portrayed as being self absorbed, materialistic, and privileged. What I
want to know is if different races are being stereotyped in media for the sake of entertainment.
Over time it seemed like the media would perceive African Americans as thugs. Not only were
African American s stereotyped as thugs, but they re also seen as being ghetto. African American
s are not the only ones stereotyped, but so are Hispanics and Asians. Hispanics in media are
portrayed as being illegal immigrants, uneducated, and housekeepers. Asians are portrayed as
foreigners, geeks, and kung fu fighters. Literature Review A study over social issues done by
Mastro mentions that in our history we have yet to experience a world free from complications of
race. One thing she mentions that contributes to race complications is the mass media. Not only are

Albania has multiple challenges to achieve the full integrating in the European Union. But, there are
two major challenges; 1) the economic challenges and 2) the political challenges that are obligatory

European Union s attention was again directed towards Albania during the Kosovo war. This was
because the European Union was promoting stability in the Balkan region. There were many pacts
that Albania has participated at the EU Meetings. Some of the pacts were; Stability pact for
southeast which was launched in 1999; the second pact was Stability and Association process for
the Western Balkan in 2000. However, these pacts were accepted, but many political issues were not
settled during these pacts between Albania and EU. Many other countries and international
organizations were supporting this, beside the European Union. Some of the countries were; United
States, Canada, Japan. On the other hand, some of the organizations supporting this pact were
organizations like NATO, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. All countries of the
Southeastern European area are partners of the Stability Pact (Thiel, 2004) and one of the members
is Albania. Although the European integration it is difficult, with the assistance of European Union,
Albania can progress towards the European Integration and the country can be more trustworthy for
foreign investors to come and invest in Albania. But this has not been the case of Albania. Many

Listening To Music Controversy
A big controversy of our generation today is concerning of a topic that many of us praise and
could not live without. In fact, spin.com claims that the average American listens to four hours of
music each day. So is music effective or hurtful to our studying? This may be an eternal topic for
we don t truly have one answer. In numerous ways listening to musicis beneficial, belie some
studies have come to find out it can also be harmful. Students should be given the option to listen to
music in class, but whether they choose to take upon this privilege or not is up to them.

You always have to put into consideration that not everyone is the same. If you re the type of
person who has more difficulty multitasking and is easily distracted, listening to music while
studying may just cause your attention to drift to the music rather than help you concentrate on
your material (Goodwin, 2015). The best way to address this controversial topic is It depends .
Saying it depends is just a general statement. It doesn t fully answer the question, but it s an
unpopular opinion that goes a long way. It s simple and can go to either end of the argument. After
all, it is true that for most people doing reading activities is much more difficult than doing math
problems. The brain can only store so much. If all these jumbled words are being thrown at your
brain, it is nearly impossible to focus on the reading instead of the music. Clifford Nass, a
professor at Stanford University, theorized, Imagine trying to learn something while you re on a

Essay on Mezzanine Finance Explained
Mezzanine Finance by Corry Silbernagel Davis Vaitkunas Bond Capital With a supplement by Ian

Mezzanine Debt Another Level To Consider
Mezzanine debt is used by companies that are cash flow positive to fund: further growth through
expansion projects; acquisitions; recapitalizations; and, management and leveraged buyouts. When
mezzanine debt is used in conjunction with senior debt it reduces the amount of equity required in
the business. As equity is the most expensive form of capital, it is most cost effective to create a
capital structure that secures the most funding, offers the lowest cost of capital, and maximizes
return on equity. Mezzanine debt has been around for over 30 years, however its use in Western
Canada and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it makes up a portion of a company s total available capital, mezzanine financing is
critical to growing companies and in succession planning in recent years. The gap in funding
between senior debt and equity is common for the following reasons: 1) accounts receivable,
inventories and fixed assets are being discounted at greater rates than in the past for fear that their
values will not be realized in the future; 2) many balance sheets now contain significant intangible
assets, and, 3) as a result of defaults and regulatory pressure, banks have placed ceilings on the
amount of total debt a company can obtain. While additional liquidity can be obtained from equity
investors, equity is the most expensive source of capital. Further, equity capital, by its nature,
dilutes existing shareholders. As a result, mezzanine debt can be an attractive alternative way to
obtain much needed capital.
Capital Structures
While there are no hard and fast rules for optimizing a company s capital structure, companies that
are ahead of the curve use an efficient combination of senior debt, mezzanine debt, and equity
capital to minimize their true cost of capital.

Advent of the Trojan War Essay
I disagree with this statement, there is evidence a Trojan War or Wars did happen, possibly
around north western Turkey. Eric Cline from the George Washington University says The
archaeological and textual evidence indicates that a Trojan War or Wars took place and that
Homer chose to write about one or more of them making it into a great ten year long saga .
In the Illiad the Trojan Warwas fought around 1200 1100 BC. The Illiad was writing by the blind
poet Homer around 750 BC. Helen of Sparta was married to king Menelaus of Sparta. The
Mycenaeans had recently formed a peace treaty with Troy. However this was all to change when

Until the 19th century it actually was widely believed that Troy and the Trojan War were
imaginary. It was not until 1871 that German born American citizen Heinrich Schliemann
excavated a site in Turkey. Schliemann surprised many by discovering the lost city of Troy.
Although Schliemann did discover the ruins of Troy destroyed much of the discovery, he blasted
his way down into the lower levels. Schliemann however discovered nine cities at the sight, one
on top of the other. Today we believe that cities six and seven seem to be the cities that the Trojan
War was likely to be fought in.
The sixth city is very similar to Homer s Troy. However the city was destroyed in 1250B.C. and
does not appear to have been destroyed by war, but an earthquake. As I have said above in the
Illiad Homer says that the Greeks breached the city walls by hiding in a giant wooden horse. The
horse was possibly a metaphor for Poseidon, a Greek god who was god of the sea and horses. Eric
Cline quotes on this The suggestion is that Homer knew that the city he was describing had been

Banning Prayer In Schools
If you were to sit in the bleachers of a football game today, would God be mentioned? More and
more schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The
controversy has arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of
praying was taken away from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The
assistant coach for Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and
after every game with his team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the
coach. He was asked to stop by the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating
federal law. Kennedy prayed anyway like he had done the past seven years after the team s
homecoming loss. He walked onto the field to pray alone, except when he opened his eyes, he
found a huge crowd of supporters around him. The school district put him... Show more content on

In 1995, a case originated out of Galveston County, Texas where two families, one catholic and the
other mormon, sued the Santa Fe School District. The families did not agree with the school s
policy to elect a chaplain to lead prayers at graduation and home football games over their PA
system.
After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead
crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on
government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement
that separates church from state.
Players will still be allowed to pray on their own before, during, or after games as long as the prayer
is done by themselves. Some teams have said that their football players can still pray before games
as long as they are the ones initiating it, and the coaches are not allowed to

Ford Motor Company Case Analysis Essay
Throughout the late twentieth century, the Ford Motor Company received numerous complaints
regarding incidents involving their vehicles. Consumers of Ford vehicles reported that at least one
of their tires spontaneous blew out while driving at highway speeds; more often than not, these
accidents resulted in the driver losing control and rolling the vehicle, causing injury or death. After
numerous lawsuits, lawyers began to notice a trend. Through multiple clients, they observed the
majority of incidents involved Firestone tires on light Ford trucks, particularly the Ford Explorer.
From the inception of the Ford Motor Company, Firestone Tires had been a primary supplier of
original equipment for Ford vehicles. In the earlier 1990s, the company became the sole supplier
of original equipment for light duty Ford Trucks. The Ford Explorer became the number one
selling sport utility vehicle in the USA, meaning millions of potentially defective Firestone tires
were out on the highways. Outside investigations found numerous issues with the Firestone Tires.
One of the root issues began with the trucks rolling off of the Ford assembly lines. Their tires
would be underinflated to only twenty six psi, rather than thirty psi, as recommended by Firestone.
The tires pressures will naturally decrease over time, thus causing the tires to become dangerously
low on air. As the tires deflate, more rubber makes contact with the road, increasing the amount of
friction between surfaces. As

Compare And Contrast Grendel s Mother And Hamlet
After the immoral loss of a beloved family member, friend, or leader, one s ideas on how to
overcome the situation may be questionable. Death has proved to have the capability of leaving a
loved one in shock, not being able to understand or react to any given circumstance, as they would
ve otherwise. In some cases, it may lead them in the direction of taking the path of extreme
measures to feel at peace once again. Whether it be, suicide or revenge by murder, death clearly
displays its true dominance within these two stories. When compared side by side, it is evident that
both Hamletand Grendels mother are parallels of one another. They both experience the pain and
suffering caused by losing a family member. At this point, they do not wish to live another day
because their family, that they would ve given their own lives for, is dead. In addition to that,
Grendel s mother and Hamlet attempt to find a way to make the slayer s pay for their dirty deeds,
rather than accepting the fact that their beloved s are gone. The juxtaposition of Hamlet and
Grendel s mother shows how they are dark, brooding characters whose goals are to avenge their
loved ones and in the end, they both die in vain.
Hamlet is a pessimistic man who simply cannot see the positive aspects in his life. He attempts to
justify the fact that the death of his father has left him with nothing to live for. In fact, he is so
focused on the negative, that he contemplates whether suicide is the optimum answer to

Siddhartha Temptation
Siddhartha PEA: Temptation
Temptation can make one see the world in a whole new light. This is a strong theme in the book
Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse. This theme was shown when in the book Siddhartha resisted
temptation to go after his son, when he gave into temptation with Kamala and when he resisted the
temptation to kill himself.
To start, Siddhartha was tempted to go after his son, but when he didn t, he finally saw how his
father felt when he left home himself. He felt a deeper love the runaway boy, like a wound and yet
felt at the same time that this wound was not intended to fester in him but that it should heal.
Because the wound did not heal during that hour, he was sad. In place of the goal which had

Better, thought the young Samana to make sacrifices to the fair Kamala (p.47) Daily, however, at
the hour she invited him, he visited the beautiful Kamala, in fine shoes and soon he also brought
her presents. (p.53) The fact that Siddhartha started giving into his temptation that he deprived
himself of for the beginning of the story shows that giving into temptation can really change who
one is as a person. Siddhartha went from mortifying himself, to indulging in every urge he had. This
changed Siddhartha from wanting and needing very little, to wanting and needing only the best.
Lastly, Siddhartha was tempted to kill himself but when he didn t he realized that there was so
much he had to live for and that he could change himself for the better He looked down and was
completely filled with a desire to let himself go and be submerged in the water (p.71) He then had
fallen asleep and on awakening he looked at the world like a new man. (p.73) These quotes prove
that temptation can make one see the world in a whole new light because is Siddhartha had not
resisted the temptation to kill himself, he would not have awoken to find that life is truly a
beautiful thing. The fact that his outlook on life changed after resisting the temptation to commit
suicide shows that temptation can make one see the world differently, and in this case potentially

Significance Of Nelson Mandela
The focal point of this investigation assessment will be How significant was Nelson Mandela s

A gang crime can be occurred anywhere in the town. It may be a local park, a school, a parking
lot, even a groceries store. Gangs mash every property that is in the middle of the battle field. No
business investors want to send their money to develop the place where they think that their
properties and resources will be used for gang crimes. If a neighbor doesn t have any
development, the economy of the town will fall down without braking in the middle. Some gangs
give them a permission to collect monthly money which they called a protection fee . If the owner
did not hand them the fee, they would demolish the store until they get the money. Therefore,
prices of local groceries and commodities have to be risen up to compensate the fee. Gang members
use graffiti to declare their allegiance to the gang, advertise the gang s status or power. Without
permission, they just paint, draw, or sculpt on neighborhoods properties; therefore, it decreases
property values in residential neighborhoods and negatively affects industrial and commercial areas.

concern is that the costs will increase for those living in the host nation, while the mayor benefits
will be for the IOC and all the multinational partners involved. For example, while Brazil spends
billions of dollars, the IOC is expected to earn billions too through sponsorship deals, owning TV
rights and many other income fees. While new stadiums and new luxury hotels are built, citizens
living in the favelas will be forced to leave their homes just for the government to exhibit the

Instead of spending millions of dollars in luxurious facilities, the budget can be reduced, avoiding
any type of corruption during the construction. Also, those said facilities should be built on cities

What Are Some Important Lessons From Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive weather disasters in United States history. It
destroyed homes and property, and killed and injured thousands of people. It also highlighted the
poor emergency response to a natural disaster by the state and federal governments. Many American
citizens believed that the government response was ineffective and inefficient. The government
response provided many opportunities to learn lessons and become better at responding to natural
disasters in the future. Citizens hope that their government have learned lessons and implemented
changes so that future disasters do not result in significant loss of life and property. According to
Waugh (2007), the biggest lesson learned was the nation s emergency management system is
broken, and that officials need to rebuild local, state, and regional capacities to reduce hazards and
respond to disasters (4). After September 11, 2001, American emergency managers were... Show

This was apparent after Hurricane Katrina and the inadequate response. Officials must be
responsible for the well being of their citizens. According to Waugh (2007), at a minimum,
officials must (1) review the history, frequency, and severity of potential hazards; (2) assess the
vulnerability of their communities; (3) identify steps that can be taken to mitigate the hazards; and
(4) on the basis of risk and vulnerability assessments, determine how resources can best be
allocated to reduce losses (13). The lack of preparation by the city, state, and federal governments
was apparent at the New Orleans Superdome and Convention Center. According to Waugh (2007),
Neither the Superdome nor the convention center had adequate food or water, and neither was
managed effectively as an emergency shelter (6). Thousands of citizens in the major metropolis of
New Orleans were injured and died to this inadequate

Whatever It Takes By Tough Analysis
Wow that was the only expression that I could make at the conclusion of reading Whatever it
Takes by Paul Tough. On several occasions, I found myself reflecting on the experiences and
predicaments which occurred throughout the book. As an African American male, who has faced
many of the same societal stigmas and predicaments, I often found myself relating to various
predicaments faced, particularly by Geoff and the children who were affiliated with the Harlem
Children s Zone. One particular situation which resonated with me comes from chapter five.

I particularly felt a connection with the concept of the Conveyor Belt , keeping parents and
children involved in the Harlem Children s Zone and Promise Academy system from pre birth
and beyond. The Baby College was a great idea, educating parents to be on topics relating to
childrearing (although I wonder if this program is easily replicable). What particularly struck me
was the conversations that were had about punishment vs. discipline, a very controversial topic.
While emotions were pretty high, at times, the instructors were very intentional and deliberate in
their efforts to educate the parents on the why component to alternatives to corporal punishment.
Admittedly, the ending of the book still troubles me. While I understand that there are a lot of
stakeholders and eyes looming over charter schools, giving up on an entire class of students was,
in my opinion, a horrible decision, one that will have lasting ramifications on the students and the
school. Nonetheless, Canada is a huge source of inspiration, having to overcome personal
obstacles to develop a sense of stability for his wife and children. Additionally, seeing the
numerous trials and tribulations that he faced, and his ability to turn the program around really
speaks to his resiliency and stick to itiveness. As a result of reading this book, I am now even
more excited and energized to eventually serve as a change agent, much like

Logical Fallacy Examples
The three logical fallacies I chose to discuss are ad hominem, bandwagon, and stacking the deck.
I chose these three based off examples I could think of that have been placed boldly in my face.
The first logical fallacy listed, ad hominem, which in Latin means, to a man, is something that
our current President has been noted as doing a lot of during his campaign for election. Whether
the argument against him was logical or not he has been labeled as an aggressive counter
puncher with his use of this logical fallacy. An example of this would be when he posted on
Twitter And this is the bimbo that s asking presidential questions? referring to then Fox News
Anchor Megyn Kelly. Along with the statement was a meme with photos of her where she had
posed for GQ Magazine in 2010. His reason for doing this was fueled from a... Show more content

To assume that something is correct because of popular opinion allows those with influence to
manipulate our way of thinking if we do not do our own research. Over the past month, a huge
argument between the President and the media has been about how many people were at the
inauguration speech of President Obama in comparison to how many were at President Trump s.
It is as if both sides are trying to say who is right by saying who had more people. To think that
one President is better because one had more support at the inauguration speech is ridiculous yet
the argument received plenty of air time on both sides of the media and garnished a lot of attention
from the White House. Apparently, this is a very important argument to be won though by the
amount of attention it has received. Those are my three examples of logical fallacies. I chose them
because as I thought about the selection given to us, those three were the ones that stood out in my
mind the most as being used in politics. Seems kind of ridiculous that all three are being used. Not
just being used, but being used

Much Ado About Nothing Monologue
For our drama assignment we had to do a Shakespearen monologue and do a write up about it. I
chose to do a monologue from the shakespearen play Much Ado About Nothing, act 4 scene 1, I
played the character Beatrice. I didn t really enjoy this assignment as much because I felt very
overwhelmed during the acting part of this assessment and I feel I didn t do very well. With the
writing part of the assignment I feel like I struggled especially with the interpretation of what each
line meant of our monologue. Overall I feel like I didn t do very well at all on this assessment task.
I believe that I could of done a lot better in the acting part by not stoping in the middle. I did get
very upset after I performed due too me feeling like I knew it and I practised it so much that I was
so disappointed in myself for stuffing the whole monologue up. I got myself all worked up

earlier Bond films throughout the Sean Connery era (Dr No. to Never say never again) and the

in a more subordinate role to Bond. In Goldfinger Bond slaps a girl on the bottom and tells her man

Quartering Act Of 1765 Dbq Analysis
The Quartering Act of 1765 is directly relevant to Chapter 6. It is relevant to Chapter 6 because
it is a response to the huge war debt against an already strained budget. George III s main priority
was that he wanted to maintain the size of the army. The colonists were not the biggest fans of
this army. The Quartering Act (1765) was one of four pieces of legislation that forced the
colonies and colonists to contribute and help with the upkeep of the large army(Oakes et al.,
2015, pg. 167). Analysis: The Quartering Act of 1765 is best described from parliament as an act,
...punishing mutiny and desertion, and for the better payment of the army and their quarters;
several regulations are made and enacted for the better government of the army, and their
observing strict discipline, and for providing quarters for the army, and carriages on marches and
other necessary occasions, and inflicting penalties on offenders against the same act (Pickering,
1765). In other words, the American colonists were required to house British soldiers and pay for
their food, in order to keep the standing army. The textbook defines it as, the Quartering Act (1765),
required the colonies to house troops in public buildings and provide them with firewood, candles,

Mossi originated. Because there are few written records about the Mossi, they rely on special
singers called griots to pass on their traditions orally. According to folklore by the Mossi, the
following myth represents the origin of the Mossi. Over forty generations ago, a king named
Naba Nedega had a daughter whom he would not allow to marry because she was a great
warrior. So Princess Nyennega took a horse and fled north into what is now Mossi country. She
married a local man. Their son, named Ouedraogo (stallion), was sent back to his mother s

with cavalry from his homeland and conquered his father s people, the Bisa. The marriage of

To Plug in or Not to Plug in
Do personal technologies like phones, iPods, and computers connect or disconnect us? The
opinions vary from person to person and generation to generation. Two opinions that we ll look at
specifically are from Andrew Sullivan, a blogger and columnist for the Sunday Times of London,
and Anna Akbari, a professor at New York University. When looked at briefly, Sullivan and Akbari
s views seem to be like the opposite sides of the same coin. Sullivan argues from a more personal
standpoint that personal technology shuts us out from the world. Akbari, on the other hand, sees

What Sullivan repeatedly revolves around is this whole idea of technology creating our own
world, that of which we have complete control. This ability to control our own world becomes
narcissistic and eliminates the serendipity of life, or the happy accidents that you could run into.
With having control of your own world through technology, everything is specifically tailored to
you. The music you listen to is completely to your likes, the things you read all agree with your
personal views thus creating less challenging and thought provoking experiences, and the people
you meet aren t by chance, but chosen by a friend request or because you decide to take out the ear
buds and talk. The happy chances of hearing something new, learning something new, and meeting
someone completely different from you, according to Sullivan, are drastically affected by our
technology. We end up living in this virtual reality instead of the real worldand we deprive
ourselves of the actual experience of really living and being human. By contrast, Akbari says, We
are on a connection journey that happens through the symbiotic relationship of in person encounters
and electronically mediated interactions. And so I believe it safe to say that this concept of

Early Christian Beliefs
Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however,
as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became
routine. These appointed leaders were eventually able to establish permanent institutions, which not
only expressed Christian values, but also drew from many Greco Roman Traditions. The creation of

a graphic novel is something only a child would read or someone to the same educational
equivalent. Due to their engaging stories and appealing visuals though, graphic novels are idea for
visual learners, inexperienced or unenthused readers, and just about anyone else who may not find
traditional print books enticing. Graphic novels tend to show a relationship between the images
and the text that makes for an experience in itself (1.). Sometimes even taking on a difficult
subject, an example being the Holocaust can make for a different kind of experience. In MausI II,
the author chose graphic novels as his medium. For that, Maus shines due to its impressive ability
to speak the unspeakable by using the popular maxim, a picture is worth a thousand words, to
perfection (3).
As mentioned before, graphic novels can be great tools for some, if not all, readers. As well the
holocausts can be a difficult subject, not always easy to read about. Using graphic novels, which
often is associated with children, to represent a traumatic event can be problematic: The enormity
of atrocity is such that the very act of representing it risked trivializing or over dramatizing it, (2).
In other words, the author has to be very cautions when writing serious graphic novels not to get
too creative

How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies
Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order?
Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one
on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the
island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps
develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and
Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows
the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14).
The fact that asking people their names is the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to...

He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where
they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch.
Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from
being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the
mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked
at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on
that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey!
Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it
down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks
it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when
Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed
when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea
to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a
thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy,
the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to
exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two
things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That
is why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus

Women In Poverty In The United States
In the United States today, women are far more likely than men to have lived below the poverty
line at some point in their lives. One in seven women are living in poverty today, with the
number hovering right around 14.7% compared to 10.9% of men (NWLC, 2015). It is
undeniable that that is a serious wage gap in the United States with women making cents to
every dollar that a man makes for the same work, and on top of that women are often working
lower paying pink collar jobs in the first place; for women of color, wages are even lower.
Compound these problems with factors such as domestic violence, children, and lack of healthcare
and you can begin to see how dire of a situation women living below the povertyline find
themselves in. As an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childcare would be a main concern, and affordable or even free childcare would be offered for
the residents children. This would allow for women to work outside of the home or go to school
without the added stress of worrying where there children are, who is taking care of them, and how
much that care is costing them. Childcare would also be beneficial to the children by giving them
structure and stability throughout their daily lives, something many of these children would be
lacking. Apart from childcare, the centers would also offer resources and programs such as GED
courses, job training, personal finance courses (for managing money, checkbooks, etc.), and even
low cost health care. GED courses are important for many women and could be instrumental in
allowing that woman to find a better job and eventually bettering her socioeconomic standing;
with education comes mobility, and women so desperately need some upward mobility to rise out
of poverty. Job training would also help address the lack of mobility that many women have.
Through job training programs, women could gain crucial skills such as how to dress and present
themselves during their job hunt and how to create a rГ©sumГ©, all of which could be helpful in
finding a better paying, non pink collar

Essay about The Pros and Cons of Imperialism
Throughout history, many powerful nations interfered with nations that were weaker than they
were. This form of sabotaging a nation is economic, political or cultural life is called as
imperialism. Imperialism is often separated into two sects. The first one is old imperialism, which
was the period from the 1500s to the 1800s, where European nation started to colonize many areas
such as the Americas, and parts of Southeast Asia. On the other hand, the new imperialismwas the
period between the years 1870 1914 , where Europebecame more focused on expanding their land
into Asia and Africa. Imperialism had many pros and cons. In addition, it also had many causes led

Their business interests demand that colonial markets should be opened and developed and that
foreign competitors should be shut out. Such aims require political control and imperialism. By
Parker T. Moore, Imperialism and world politics, 1926.Politics and the military also had
significance in causing new imperialism. One example is that when a nation had many colonies it
believed it would be more powerful and secure. The second example is nationalism, which was a
motive for achieving a goal for a nation. Last cause was the poem The White Man s Burden , which
was written by Rudyard Kipling, to justify imperialism. Imperialism had several diverse impacts on
Asia, Africa, and Europe. The pros about imperialism, was that new roads and railroads that were
built connected many parts of India. The introduction of the telegraph and postal systems united
many people. Discovering new agricultural methods improved farming in the west and in Africa
and Asia. Schools that were built by the British educated many people. Human rights were
recognized, by ending customs that threatened many humans. On the other hand, the cons of
imperialism were what benefited Europeans and infuriated the Asians, and Africans. Many
individuals and groups resisted imperial rule. European tried many ways to westernize the subject
people s cultures. Many of the resources that were manufactured profited the Europeans rather than
the Indians. A cash crop economy was established

Cassius has a lean and hungry look;/ He thinks too much: such men are dangerous (Shakespeare).
This explains how Julius Caesar thought that Cassius was doing something bad. This was
significant because Cassius started to form a group of conspirators to betray Julius Caesar, and
Julius Caesar knew that Cassius could do something bad against him, he did not do something
about it because he thought Cassius was his friend, and then Cassius created the group of
conspirators to betray Julius Caesar. The article named Julius Caesar wrote A successful political

Inequality In Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s view ever since creation of God man is regarded as the supreme being on the
planet, next only to God, the paragon of animals, a strange piece of work. His interest in the
universe is considered paramount although discoveries of modern science have brought about a
great change. Some people consider him divine and his suffering and primordial fall from heaven
have aroused protest and rebellion. Most of literature written in the world so far sings of man s

The History Of The World Wide Web
The history of the World Wide Web was created on August 6th, 1991 by Tim Berners Lee.
(Bryant, 2012). Due to the creation of the World Wide Web, many things have changed. Websites
have made everything either easier or more complicated. But, we will talk about the easier this
world has gotten. Some websites that have made life easier are Facebook, Strayer University,
Amazon, EBay, Google, Gmail, Yahoo, PayPal, Walmart, Schwan s, Myspace
, Pogo, Trip Advisor,
and Home Chef. These are just to name a few of the websites that have made our lives easier.
I could not agree more, that technology is like the Devil to many households making parents
divorce due to lack of person to person communication, and it makes partners want to have
infidelities in their relationships. But, nonetheless, websites like the ones I listed above are to make
our lives easier.
We will start with Social Networking sites. Social Networking sites, like Facebook, and
Myspace, are to bring people closer to each other from distances away. I have known of many
relatives finding each other after many years of not knowing each other, due to adoption and
other circumstances. They always help connect business to the users. You will always see ads
on the sides of Facebook while playing a game, if it is not full screen, of business that you might
like. Social Networking can be the cause of distraction with family as well. There was a report of a
lady playing Farmville, a very popular game on Facebook and it used to

The Power of Hips
Hips are used as a symbol to reveal the power of a women body s. Hips are mighty, free, and
seductive. Hips are used for childbearing, only a female power. Lucille Clifton s, a supporter of
African Americans and feminism, believes that women have the same power as men. Anything men
can do women can do the same, even better. Lucille Clifton s Homage to My Hips rebuts the
division of labor mechanism instilled in our society that isn t politically correct; thereby taking a
powerful stance in her confident belief that woman can do the same as men.

She will not follow the rules society has set for her ethnically and physically. In The
Construction of Femininity, Race and Sexuality , the term feminist has a broader reach, it
describes a range of self determination and equality (Tyree 2). Being an African American
feminist in her time period was much more difficult than today. She had to face ignorant minds
and fight for her belief. Lucille Clifton praises her body that has made her independent. She
believes the only thing that sets a man off from a woman is her hips. She believed that women
should have the same rights as men, her hips should have not been held back. Women are
capable of performing the same tasks. Women are emotionally stronger than men as well.
Women were granted with a gift that no man could ever do, childbearing. Many look at it as not
a grand thing, but in fact the world is dependent on a woman. The speaker states that these hips
are magic hips (12) to show how they could help her get certain things from a male. Clifton
writes, i have known them to put a spell on a man and spin him like a top (13 15) to display how
her hips could possible attract a lover. Clifton strongly writes, They go where they want to go
emphasizing that a female should be able to live her dreams and aspirations. She bestows homage to
her hips for giving her individuality.
Without individuality, the world would be bland. We wouldn t be progressing as a community

  • 2. Grendel s Three Battles In Beowulf Throughout the book Beowulf, the titular character takes on many tough, mythological foes for fame and glory. Beowulf begins by slaying a creature known as Grendel without any trouble, but with his later opponents he struggles to win and is even harmed. As the story progresses, Beowulf s battles with monsters escalate in difficulty, cost, and reward. The primary difference between Beowulfs three battles was the level of difficulty each trial consisted of. With the last battle being his last and most difficult battle, Beowulf found himself unable to fight it alone. There were, however, very obvious reasons as to why the dragon was more difficult than the rest of the hero s battles. At this stage of his life, Beowulf s physical strength was... Beowulf killed Grendel s mom with the intention of gaining more glory, but also was showered in riches and gifts. Beowulf drank to these presents not ashamed to be praised (Line 1025) Lastly, the dragon that was terrorizing his land guarded a tower that was said to be packed with treasure. However, Beowulf was no longer doing it just for his name and his people. Beowulf was motivated by the treasure and riches. Because of his motivation, Beowulf s reward was rotten and spoiled. This is also the real reason he found himself unable to beat the dragon alone. Wiglaf was able to help because he a genuine intention and wanted to help his king. Beowulf took a physical trophy away from each fight: the claw, Grendel s head, and the treasure that filled his grave. Had Beowulf been the almighty hero that he was thought to be, he would have said kind things to Wiglaf as his last words, talked about any regrets, or named off his favorite people. Instead he ordered Wiglaf to show him the treasure. Wiglaf had just saved his life and he couldn t even ask nicely. Beowulf died the way he did because he was a shallow, selfish, self centered, avaricious, plutomaniac. He could not beat the dragon by himself because he was only fighting for his personal monetary gain instead of trying to avenge his killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The perfect competitive market is a description of a market where no participants are large enough to have the market power to set the price of a homogeneous product, this is because the conditions set for perfect competition are strictly applied. Realisticly speaking, there are very few, if any, perfectly competitive markets. The closes comparison would be the buyers and sellers in some auction markets or for financial assets, which approximate the concept. • 5. Racial Stereotyping Of African Americans Essay Introduction What does it mean to be stereotyped? The definition of stereotype is Stereotyping may be defined as the tendency to attribute generalized and simplified characteristics to groups of people in the form of verbal labels, and to act towards the members of those groups in terms of those labels (Kanahara, 2006) When asked to pick a topic and do a research study, I decided that the topic of racial stereotyping would be efficient. As I began to watch movies I started to see a trend. I saw African Americans being portrayed as being violent, uneducated, and ghetto. European Americans were portrayed as being self absorbed, materialistic, and privileged. What I want to know is if different races are being stereotyped in media for the sake of entertainment. Over time it seemed like the media would perceive African Americans as thugs. Not only were African American s stereotyped as thugs, but they re also seen as being ghetto. African American s are not the only ones stereotyped, but so are Hispanics and Asians. Hispanics in media are portrayed as being illegal immigrants, uneducated, and housekeepers. Asians are portrayed as foreigners, geeks, and kung fu fighters. Literature Review A study over social issues done by Mastro mentions that in our history we have yet to experience a world free from complications of race. One thing she mentions that contributes to race complications is the mass media. Not only are we influenced by movies and television, but from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, these pacts were accepted, but many political issues were not settled during these pacts between Albania and EU. This may be an eternal topic for we don t truly have one answer. In numerous ways listening to musicis beneficial, belie some studies have come to find out it can also be harmful. Students should be given the option to listen to music in class, but whether they choose to take upon this privilege or not is up to them. Music is there whenever you need it. It s everlasting. If you re the type of person who has more difficulty multitasking and is easily distracted, listening to music while studying may just cause your attention to drift to the music rather than help you concentrate on your material (Goodwin, 2015). The best way to address this controversial topic is It depends . Saying it depends is just a general statement. It doesn t fully answer the question, but it s an unpopular opinion that goes a long way. It s simple and can go to either end of the argument. After all, it is true that for most people doing reading activities is much more difficult than doing math problems. The brain can only store so much. If all these jumbled words are being thrown at your brain, it is nearly impossible to focus on the reading instead of the music. Clifford Nass, a professor at Stanford University, theorized, Imagine trying to learn something while you re on a roller coaster (Castello y Tickell, 2012). When mezzanine debt is used in conjunction with senior debt it reduces the amount of equity required in the business. As equity is the most expensive form of capital, it is most cost effective to create a capital structure that secures the most funding, offers the lowest cost of capital, and maximizes return on equity. Although it makes up a portion of a company s total available capital, mezzanine financing is critical to growing companies and in succession planning in recent years. The gap in funding between senior debt and equity is common for the following reasons: 1) accounts receivable, inventories and fixed assets are being discounted at greater rates than in the past for fear that their values will not be realized in the future; 2) many balance sheets now contain significant intangible assets, and, 3) as a result of defaults and regulatory pressure, banks have placed ceilings on the amount of total debt a company can obtain. While additional liquidity can be obtained from equity investors, equity is the most expensive source of capital. Further, equity capital, by its nature, dilutes existing shareholders. As a result, mezzanine debt can be an attractive alternative way to obtain much needed capital. Capital Structures While there are no hard and fast rules for optimizing a company s capital structure, companies that are ahead of the curve use an efficient combination of senior debt, mezzanine debt, and equity capital to minimize their true cost of capital. It was not until 1871 that German born American citizen Heinrich Schliemann excavated a site in Turkey. Schliemann surprised many by discovering the lost city of Troy. Although Schliemann did discover the ruins of Troy destroyed much of the discovery, he blasted his way down into the lower levels. Schliemann however discovered nine cities at the sight, one on top of the other. Today we believe that cities six and seven seem to be the cities that the Trojan War was likely to be fought in. The sixth city is very similar to Homer s Troy. However the city was destroyed in 1250B.C. and does not appear to have been destroyed by war, but an earthquake. As I have said above in the Illiad Homer says that the Greeks breached the city walls by hiding in a giant wooden horse. The horse was possibly a metaphor for Poseidon, a Greek god who was god of the sea and horses. More and more schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The controversy has arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of praying was taken away from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The assistant coach for Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and after every game with his team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the coach. He was asked to stop by the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating federal law. After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement that separates church from state. • 11. Ford Motor Company Case Analysis Essay Throughout the late twentieth century, the Ford Motor Company received numerous complaints regarding incidents involving their vehicles. Consumers of Ford vehicles reported that at least one of their tires spontaneous blew out while driving at highway speeds; more often than not, these accidents resulted in the driver losing control and rolling the vehicle, causing injury or death. After numerous lawsuits, lawyers began to notice a trend. Through multiple clients, they observed the majority of incidents involved Firestone tires on light Ford trucks, particularly the Ford Explorer. From the inception of the Ford Motor Company, Firestone Tires had been a primary supplier of original equipment for Ford vehicles. In the earlier 1990s, the company became the sole supplier of original equipment for light duty Ford Trucks. The Ford Explorer became the number one selling sport utility vehicle in the USA, meaning millions of potentially defective Firestone tires were out on the highways. Outside investigations found numerous issues with the Firestone Tires. One of the root issues began with the trucks rolling off of the Ford assembly lines. Their tires would be underinflated to only twenty six psi, rather than thirty psi, as recommended by Firestone. The tires pressures will naturally decrease over time, thus causing the tires to become dangerously low on air. As the tires deflate, more rubber makes contact with the road, increasing the amount of friction between surfaces. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Death has proved to have the capability of leaving a loved one in shock, not being able to understand or react to any given circumstance, as they would ve otherwise. In some cases, it may lead them in the direction of taking the path of extreme measures to feel at peace once again. Whether it be, suicide or revenge by murder, death clearly displays its true dominance within these two stories. When compared side by side, it is evident that both Hamletand Grendels mother are parallels of one another. They both experience the pain and suffering caused by losing a family member. At this point, they do not wish to live another day because their family, that they would ve given their own lives for, is dead. In addition to that, Grendel s mother and Hamlet attempt to find a way to make the slayer s pay for their dirty deeds, rather than accepting the fact that their beloved s are gone. The juxtaposition of Hamlet and Grendel s mother shows how they are dark, brooding characters whose goals are to avenge their loved ones and in the end, they both die in vain. Siddhartha went from mortifying himself, to indulging in every urge he had. This changed Siddhartha from wanting and needing very little, to wanting and needing only the best. Lastly, Siddhartha was tempted to kill himself but when he didn t he realized that there was so much he had to live for and that he could change himself for the better He looked down and was completely filled with a desire to let himself go and be submerged in the water (p.71) He then had fallen asleep and on awakening he looked at the world like a new man. Thus, the letters from Mandela to Hendrik Verwoerd regarded as the mastermind behind socially engineering and implementing the racial policies of apartheid, and the Speech to the Foreign Policy Association are sources of a peculiar importance to this investigation, due to the evidence of struggle and resignation that Mandela feel as a leader. A gang crime can be occurred anywhere in the town. It may be a local park, a school, a parking lot, even a groceries store. Gangs mash every property that is in the middle of the battle field. No business investors want to send their money to develop the place where they think that their properties and resources will be used for gang crimes. If a neighbor doesn t have any development, the economy of the town will fall down without braking in the middle. Some gangs give them a permission to collect monthly money which they called a protection fee . If the owner did not hand them the fee, they would demolish the store until they get the money. Therefore, prices of local groceries and commodities have to be risen up to compensate the fee. Gang members use graffiti to declare their allegiance to the gang, advertise the gang s status or power. Without permission, they just paint, draw, or sculpt on neighborhoods properties; therefore, it decreases property values in residential neighborhoods and negatively affects industrial and commercial areas. Clark University Application Essay My interest with Clark University began prior to my college experience, by hearing Dr. Goldberg and other Clark Professors on NPR and in the media, discussing the topics that I now consider my primary research interests. As an undergraduate student I continued to listen to these interviews and look into the research they cited, which eventually lead me to the psychologyprograms and active labs of Clark University. As someone with experience as a teacher s assistant, I know how well it can help both socially and financially. Such a partnership helps students engage student body, build rapport with professors, and gain active experience and competence in their field. Government Corruption In Mexico City The Olympic games are a two weeklong tournament where the best athletes compete with solidarity and fair play to develop humanism and respect among every nation. Host candidates are chosen by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) according to specific demands and requirements. Nevertheless, chosen cities are meant to promise their entire commitment and effort for investing in infrastructure, public security, public health and tourism. Despite this optimism, the prevailing concern is that the costs will increase for those living in the host nation, while the mayor benefits will be for the IOC and all the multinational partners involved. For example, while Brazil spends billions of dollars, the IOC is expected to earn billions too through sponsorship deals, owning TV rights and many other income fees. It destroyed homes and property, and killed and injured thousands of people. It also highlighted the poor emergency response to a natural disaster by the state and federal governments. Many American citizens believed that the government response was ineffective and inefficient. The government response provided many opportunities to learn lessons and become better at responding to natural disasters in the future. Citizens hope that their government have learned lessons and implemented changes so that future disasters do not result in significant loss of life and property. What particularly struck me was the conversations that were had about punishment vs. discipline, a very controversial topic. While emotions were pretty high, at times, the instructors were very intentional and deliberate in their efforts to educate the parents on the why component to alternatives to corporal punishment. Admittedly, the ending of the book still troubles me. While I understand that there are a lot of stakeholders and eyes looming over charter schools, giving up on an entire class of students was, in my opinion, a horrible decision, one that will have lasting ramifications on the students and the school. The colonists were not the biggest fans of this army. The Quartering Act (1765) was one of four pieces of legislation that forced the colonies and colonists to contribute and help with the upkeep of the large army(Oakes et al., 2015, pg. 167). • 43. The Importance Of Graphic Novels When most people refer to literature that concentrates specifically on the Holocaust as the subjects, the first thought usually isn t in the form of a graphic novel. Most people would believe a graphic novel is something only a child would read or someone to the same educational equivalent. Due to their engaging stories and appealing visuals though, graphic novels are idea for visual learners, inexperienced or unenthused readers, and just about anyone else who may not find traditional print books enticing. Graphic novels tend to show a relationship between the images and the text that makes for an experience in itself (1.). Sometimes even taking on a difficult subject, an example being the Holocaust can make for a different kind of experience. In MausI II, the author chose graphic novels as his medium. For that, Maus shines due to its impressive ability to speak the unspeakable by using the popular maxim, a picture is worth a thousand words, to perfection (3). As mentioned before, graphic novels can be great tools for some, if not all, readers. As well the holocausts can be a difficult subject, not always easy to read about. Using graphic novels, which often is associated with children, to represent a traumatic event can be problematic: The enormity of atrocity is such that the very act of representing it risked trivializing or over dramatizing it, (2). • 44. How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That is why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
