The Jersey Shore After Hurricane Sandy
As you all know the Jersey Shore took a beating after Hurricane Sandy. Our two houses survived
for the most part, but being there after the destruction, hit me in a way I never thought about
before. I felt in my heart that I was getting a glimpse into what an adopted child feels all through
their transition. Today I was thinking about the day I spent down there waiting for the gas man
to come. Let me explain... Since all power, gas and water had been shut down for some time we
had to get everything working again. As I sat in that 44 degree house waiting for the gas man to
get everything up and running, I got a glimpse out the window. I saw two ducks floating in the
lagoon with garbage all around them and I started to take it all in for the first time since that
October day had changed everything down there. It was a symbol of the past and the present
coming together. There we were in a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before
the storm hit I was there with a bunch of friends enjoying my world and my life and this house
saw so much laughter, fun and good friends come together. It was alive! All summer long we
were down there enjoying our New House. It was new because Hurricane Irene had ruined the one
that stood there before. This New House was only eight months old and at that moment, as I stood
there being one of the few that came away unscathed, I looked out into the night. It was just
starting to get dark, the houses around me and across from me all

Napoleon Warfare Compared To Warfare
Is warfare in the Napoleonic era fundamentally similar to warfare practiced today? The
Napoleonic era foresaw the potential for use of a variety of arms, improved military tactics and
strategies; however, failing to utilize the approach and maximize use of tactical resources to
warfare is an illustration of ineffective tactical leadership. The Napoleonic era is fundamentally
similar to warfare practiced today; specifically the integration of combined arms, adaptability of
basic militarytactics and strategies, consideration of operational environment and logistical
planning on the battlefield. These are key points Napoleon integrated during his era and today s
leaders continue to consider and effectively utilize during warfare. Incorporating... Show more

The victor of warfare in both eras could very well be determined by who has the best logistical
execution. A very clear illustration of this is shown in Napoleon s invasion of Russia. His lack
of consideration for ensuring the troops were supplied with basic needs proved disastrous.
Supplying a force the size of Napoleon s army was a logistical nightmare for the French command.
He essentially overextended his supply train and left his army hung out to dry. Perhaps the biggest
influence the Napoleonic era has on today s warfare excluding strategic improvement and tactics is
recognizing the impact of poor logistical planning. Whether it s the war in Vietnam, Desert Storm,
Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation Enduring Freedom victories in war cannot be achieved
without providing sound logistical, operational, tactical, and strategical support. In today s
warfare, we are still over stretching military logistic units and military forces that rely on
contractors to provide many functions. It is important to note a shortcoming to each of the
previously mentioned wars was a significant increase in cost to the government regarding logistics;
however, none were considered failures as in the Napoleonic era. A successful logistical execution
will provide a country strategic flexibility, providing a

Comparison Of War And Dulce Et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est and Lovelace s poem To Lucasta, Going to the Wars
have different perceptions of war. Owen explores the ideas of depressing and dark tones while
explaining his trauma were Lovelace tests his perspective of war through love and honor. These
poets express their ideas when using imagery and diction to convey depressing emotions and love.
Owen has uses imagery serveral times throughout his poem to explain his traumatic event. For
example, the narrator writes, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy
helmets just in the time. describes the idea of scared men in a panic try to put gas masks on.
Also in the sentence Wilfred uses the words clumsy helmets as a possible way of mocking them
for not saving his friend. Another example Wilfred writes, is the text, Dim, through the misty
panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. which paints a picture of
Wilfred in a cloud of smoke, barely seeing his friend die and also implying that there was nothing
he could do because of how he only describes he was blinded by the smoke. Overall, Wilfred uses
imagery to create a depressing tone when he is not able to save his friend. ... Show more content on

Through his writing, he chooses the words Sweet and Dear as a term of endearment to Lucasta.
This is showing his affection toward Lucasta but he also finds love in war as in honor and possibly
honor before love . For example, Lovelace wrote, I could not love thee, Dear, so much, Love I
not honour more. which is saying that even if he does love Lucasta, by using Dear , he will
choose going to fight in a war instead. The word choice of love and honour in the same sentence
shows his debacle between the two. To sum up, Richard Lovelace s specific word choice better
defines his meaning of love and his belief in

Confederate Viewpoints
Beyond sharpening my social awareness, Intergroup Dialogue forced me to consider that my
perception of the world is not the only one. For, as previously mentioned, I did not find that
conflicting viewpoints were the most defining aspect of the IGD experience. Upon reflection,
however, it is probable that I felt this way because the majority of the opinions expressed were
similar to my own. The class was largely comprised of people of color who came off as mostly
liberal in their political and social views. For myself, this is the norm. For someone else, however,
this may have been completely different as compared to what they are used to. As an example,
there was a time in class when Sarah, a European woman who was not born in the United States,
observed to the group that her opinions are clearly a lot different than everyone else s. This
statement occurred after what I would personally deem the most palpable demonstration of
difference within the course: the debate over whether public displays of Confederate symbols
should be permanently removed and banned. This dissimilarity in perspective arose during Four
Corners, an activity wherein students individually move to different corners of the room in order to
demonstrate the extent to which they agree or disagree with statements read aloud by facilitators.
When an opinion stating that the Confederate flag should be banned was read, nearly every student
moved to the agree half of the room. However, Sarah

Ancient Rome Research Paper
Slide 1: My project is on Ancient Civilizations in Italy. My presentation will focus on Italy during
the Roman Empire, the Reformation, and the Renaissance.
Slide 2: My presentation will begin by talking about Ancient Rome.
Slide 3: Romulus and Remus are the founders of Rome. They are the twin sons of Mars who is
the god of war. As babies a king left put them in a basket and sent them down the Tiber River. A
she wolf found them and raised the twins as her own. Once they got older the boys crushed the
king who left them in the basket. Romulus and Remus decided to form Rome near the Tiber River.
Soon after founding the city, Romulus killed Remus to become Rome s first king.
Slide 4: Before becoming the Roman Empire, Rome was a tiny city surrounded by seven hills.
These hills helped protect the Romans when they were fighting enemies. Rome was also located
near volcanoes which made the soil fertile. The fertile soil helped the Romans grow crops to feed
their families.

Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost,
unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting
into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on
Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word
could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning
paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a
poor asset to novice readers.
With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was
presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought
of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of
the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this
magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is
artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par.
But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful
into reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first
sentence, a summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

Changing Relationship Between Great Britain And The...
Change Over Time Essay During the time period of 1600 to 1776, the relationship between Great
Britain and the colonies changed massively. The relationship between Great Britain and the
colonies changed greatly because of three main reasons: the relationships that the colonies and
Great Britain were built on, the struggles that the colonists faced because of their relationships with
Great Britain, and the anger that the colonists expressed because of the ridiculous taxes that they
had to pay. Once the colonists realized that they were suffering under British rule, most of the
colonists became eager to be independent from Great Britain. The colonists Second Continental
Congress believed that the acts and taxes created by the British Parliament were unconstitutional,
unjust, and unfair towards the colonists and because of that belief, the Declaration signers forever
changed our country. Before 1600, many countries were looking to colonize the New World and
one of those countries was obviously Great Britain. In an informative research paper called The
First Colonies North of Mexico , it states, Richard Hakluyt, a Protestant minister and geographer,
wrote books urging colonization to accomplish five goals: (1) extend Protestantism, (2) expand
trade, (3) increase Englands markets, (4) reduce unemployment, and (5) provide bases in order to
attack Spanish ships in case of war. (paragraph four) England s first attempts of establishing
colonies failed for multiple reasons, but

Money as a Motivator
Some people argue that money is a main motivator through business and job opportunity, but is not
always completely true as there are others factors to considers such as working conditions,
environment and the peoples we work with. This essay discuss the arguments that are both for and
against money being the key motivator in Singapore.
In most organisation, money is often seen as a prime motivator for employee in the government
and corporate sectors. It empowers them to perform better and contribute to the organisation
objective goals and productivity, however, following the shifting of economic conditions and social
values, people s desire is dramatically changing. Most employee may feel that they are affected by

The productivity or added value of the unit is the ultimate output measure and this is a fair
reflection of a employee s ability to gain results through people.
The best people to judge how effectively a leader is leading are the followers, hence the strong
emphasis on behavioural assessments, based on capability frameworks and 360Вє feedback. The
resulting summary of perceptions is also an output measure of leadership effectiveness, since the
style and behaviour of leaders will affect morale and motivation. Good systems of feedback will
give more than a mere evaluation, but through open comments offer examples that enable
individuals to relate to the reality of how they are seen.
Conditions to maximise motivation
To determine how much an employee motivated in the organisation culture and working
environment, a simple survey can be an effective tool for measuring the factors between
organisation and employee s understanding.

Comparing Two Views On Creation And God
A.) Two world views on creation were discussed by Lennox between the Israelites and the
neighbors of the Israelites. The first being, the Israelites believed that God created the world out of
nothing yet the neighbors of the Israelites believed that their gods created the world out of
materials that were already present. Israel believed Godmade humanity with purpose, great design,
and good, whereas Israel s neighbors thought that the gods created humanity as an afterthought,
with little purpose, and humans were made from the bad blood of an evil god, so they were not
good. Lastly, Israelites believed that God created the world to sustain on it s own, to continue to
grow from itself and thrive, yet their neighbors believed that after all of

The Interesting Narrative Of The Life Of Olaudah Equiano
American Literature has had many impacts on the American Society today, and there are many
different ways we can relate it to society. Many different pieces of literature represent the changes
that have shaped our society, and that reflect off of our society in America today. Some of the many
American Literature pieces are: The World on the Turtles Back, Coyote and the Buffalo, Gettysburg
Address, and The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Relating literature to
society will help us to understand how American Literature has had an impact on society in
American Society. The definition of American Literature is the literature written in the United

In Coyote and the Buffalo , the Buffalo and the Coyote have a dispute between them, and the
Buffalo is somewhat vulnerable to the Coyote. The coyote finds the buffalo s skulls on the
ground and throws it around, because he is dead. Little does he know, the buffalo comes to life
and chases him. The buffalo ends up giving the coyote a chance, because he wants new horns, to
kill the young buffalo. The Buffalo kills the young buffalo and takes the herd back. In return of
the sharp horns, he gives coyote a calf, to live off of his fat, but warns him not to kill him when
he becomes hungry. He promises to do this, but ends up becoming very sick of eating the fat, and
kills the buffalo. In American society, we value loyalty, trust, and honesty. In this book even
though the coyote is doing bad, we are still on his side. This often happens in society too, the bad
people look good in others eyes, but in all reality, they are bad. Although he was beating up the
skull and taunting the buffalo, we still want him to survive. Foolish and greedy are often hidden by
lies, that only some people recognize. It

How The Tuskegee Changed Aviation
Born on December 7, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, Charles McGee changed aviation in more ways
than one. McGee graduated from Chicago s Dusable High School in 1938 and pursued a higher
education by attending the University of Illinois in 1939. It was there that he joined ROTC.
When war was declared on Pearl Harbor, McGee applied for a pilot s slot in an experimental
squadron and passed the exams. According to the National Aviation Hall of Fame, on October
19, 1942, he received his orders and made his way to Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama to
begin training with his fellow African Americans. One memory he claims to remember very well
was his trip down to the south to get to Tuskegee. He said when he crossed into the state he had to

When McGee began his career in the Air Force, African American s were still seen as unequal to
white Americans in every aspect. It wasn t until July 2, 1964, that President Johnson signed the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on race. Previous to this, the Jim
Crow laws were used as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to
become pilots in the military. Once this changed, a new door opened for colored pilots causing
many to stay in the military long after the war ended and turn it into a career, as McGee did.
Although McGee s career began due to WWII, it certainly did not end there. McGee went on to
serve in Korea as well as Vietnam. By the time McGee retired from the Air Force on January 31,
1973 he had earned awards such as the Oak Leaf Cluster, and had six thousand three hundred
hours of flying fighter jets. He went on to become President of the Tuskegee Airmen,
Incorporated for two presidencies. This is significant because McGee helped show the nation that
African Americans are capable of being not only some of the best airmen out there, but also some
of the best leaders. He never quit in the journey to better himself and helped pave the way for
many African Americans who hold the dream to fly. In the long run, the color of one s skin means

Beach Boys Caroline
For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many
characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and
the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of
Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response
relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this
exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made
the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The
quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have
heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does
not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady
tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song
talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first verse, at the end of each line there is rhyme. For example, where did your long hair
go, where is the girl that I used to know, how could you lose that happy glow, oh Caroline no.
The words go, know, glow and no all rhyme with each other. This is also present in the second
verse between the words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with
melisma. For instance, the word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical
element adds to the smooth and earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. Also, there is falsetto and
harmony throughout Caroline No. The Beach Boys appear to sing above their normal range and
this further contributes to the smooth and melancholic musical quality. All the singers in The
Beach Boys sing in harmony to a beat in

War Propaganda Song Essay
The songs from World War I range from dark humor to sarcastic attempts to bitter complaints
about soldier s lifestyles during war. Based on what I ve heard and read, most of the lyrics are
propaganda for young men to join the war. These songs usually portray the conditions of soldiers in
the war in a good light. Another significant portion are lovesongs that soldiers sing to remind them
of their wife that they left at home with their children. Finally, a very small portion is the the anti
war songs that are strictly prohibited in music halls, the most popular form of popular song, where
music is played for the common folk who couldn t afford their own gramophones.

This song is sung from a prostitute s point of view; basically, she is saying that she everyone that
fights for the war makes her proud as a woman and she d gladly sleep with anyone who does. The
dark part of the song is that she lures in these unsuspecting men and makes them join the military
when they think they are going to be able to get down with her and her other friends.
One last example is Over There sung by Henry Burr:
Johnnie, get your gun, get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling you and me, ev ry son of liberty
Hurray right away, no delay, go today
Make your Daddy glad to have had such a lad,
Tell your sweetheart not to pine, to be proud her boy s in line The last two lines show the pride
soldiers inspire in others when they fight in the war, making it very ideal for those who want to
impress their parents and wives. Songs like these have had a huge impact on societies all over the
world because it is a form of entertainment and people listen to songs to pass time. In turn, they get
the song s messages and apply for the military.

The Consequences Of Soil Diversity
The human population is projected to reach 10 billion by 2050. This growth will demand almost
twice of currently globally produced agricultural products. However, long periods of intensive
agriculture have resulted in soil nutrient depletion, salinity accumulation, and acidification of
agricultural soils, resulting in an overall reduction of the soils ability to support a growing
population (Godfray et al., 2010; Smith et al., 2013, Tillman et al 2011, Ray et al 2013). Despite
the fact that soil is one of the mankind s most essential and threatened resources, supporting food

My Favorite Character In The Taming Of The Shrew
Taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you assignment.
Who is your favourite character?
My favourite character in the taming of the shrew is tranio because although he is not a antagonist
like petruchio, lucentio or the sisters he is the character that the play relies on. The plot of the
taming of the shrew consists of a man named petruchio marrying a woman named Katherine so
that another man named lucentio can marry Katherines younger sister Bianca. Tranio is a great
help to this play by convincing lucentio to go and find some girls in the first place and he also
convinces the sisters father babtista that he is lucentio so that lucentio can follow his love
Bianca. Tranio does not marry by the end of the play although he is a great help to lucentio
giving him great ideas during his peruse of love like convincing him to pretend to be a teacher
named Cambio to get closer to Bianca. The reason I like tranio best is because he is very selfless
and devoted to lucentio and his plans.
2. Write a love poem or sonnet from the perspective of Petruchio. (100 words)
Katherine my dearest,
You are to me as fish are to the sea, swimming and wading let our love never start fading. We will
live together as we age, we will never break after any rage, we will only grow stronger like a steel
cage. I am sorry for any damage that will be done, I knew our love would sprout after our
relationship had begun, I just hope we never stop having fun. Katherine my feelings for you are
unexplainable, if my feelings for you were words they would be unattainable, Katherine let our love
never be detainable for I will never hold you down. I will only let you have what you need and if
you need me then I will let you roam free, free in our free love as we are prisoners being let free
leaving our chain, embracing our pain and joining each other in forevermore.
Sincerely petruchio.
3. Is Taming of the shrew a sexist play? (200 words)
I believe that the taming of the shrew was an early adaption of a feminists story. There are
sometimes subtle and hidden hints in the taming of the shrew that point out to feminists and sexist
topics. Some of these topics are that Katherine before she is made more normal and how a woman

As Americans today, we learn the history of our country, the good and the bad, however no one

Miller, and written by Solomon Northup himself, his memoir entitled, 12 Years a Slave is a
phenomenal narrative of the accounts he experienced as a free man kidnapped and sold into slavery
that assisted in opening the eyes of the public to the disturbing and barbaric realities of slavery
in the Antebellum South. Throughout the book, Solomon Northup gives an account of his life
from the time he lived as a free man, to the time he was kidnapped and sold into slavery, as well
as his experiences as a slave, and up until he became a free man again. In the beginning of the
book, Solomon explains his life as he enjoyed the blessings of liberty in a free state (Northup
10). His father was a slave who acquired his freedom when his slave owner died and was then
able to be emancipated, which led to Solomon being born a free man. Unfortunately, Solomon s
mother died while he was confined in slavery. Living as a free man, Solomon was able to
financially support his wife and three children by playing the violin

Teacher Student Relationship
Considering that most students spend five to seven hours a day with their teacher for almost ten
months, it is safe to say that school is a big part of a student s day to day life (Urooj). Since students
spend most of their time in schools, it is import for them to have a positive relationship with their
teachers. A positive teacher student relationship is a relationship that has emotional support toward
the students, and has a positive effect on the student s outcomes ( Teacher Student Relationship ).
Teachers are the ones that spend the most time with students so it is very important that they
influence their students in a positive way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A social capital in a classroom setting is defined as having a caring teacher student relationship
where the students feel that they are both cared for and expected to succeed. Social capitals can
work in many different ways, it can reduce dropout rates by nearly half, help encourage the idea of
going to college and furthering their education, and provide support for their academic endeavors
(Gallagher). The simple task of just getting to know the students can have such a huge positive
impact on the student s social development. If a teacher really wants to create a positive
relationship with their students so they can further help their academic development, it would be
wise for them to communicate with their students. A key part of communication is actively
listening to what the other is saying. Actively listening, in regards to teachers and students, means
that the teacher should not just listen to what the students are saying but listen for the meaning
behind it. This will develop a trust between the teacher and the student and would help grow a
positive relationship (Zakrzewski). When a teacher actively listens to their students, they will
become aware of any difficulties that they are having. Since no student is perfect and knows
everything, understanding a child s predicaments will lead the teacher to have more patience with
each individual in their respected area of conflict. Thus making the student feel secure and less

Marx View on Capitalism
1b. Summarize Marx s views on the market, alienation, the labor theory of value, the surplus value,
and the accumulation of capital. Are these views relevant in the 20th century and during the
contemporary globalization? If so, how? How are these views related with Thorstein Veblens
ideas? Please give specific reference to the relevant readings.
Theory of Alienation his analysis of how people are bound to become estranged from themselves
and each other under the conditions of capitalist industrial production (Hooker). This Theory of
Alienation is often considered the philosophical underpinning for his later more technical critique
of capitalism as an economic system (Bramann).

The factory owner has done nothing to earn the money and the $5 per hour he receives is surplus
value , representing exploitation of the worker. Even the tools which the factory owner provided
were, according to Marx, necessarily produced by other workers (Wollstein).
According to the labor theory of value, all profits are the rightful earnings of the workers, and
when they are kept from the workers by capitalists, workers are simply being robbed. Marx
called for the elimination of profits, for workers to seize factories and for the overthrow of the
tyranny of capitalism. Basically out of the worker labor, the companies make far more than what
they paid the workers, while the companies get richer and richer while the workers remain poor
(Mandel).
There are some flaws to the labor theory of value. For example, most workers prefer to be paid
when their work is completed rather than when their products are sold which may be months
later. For workers to be paid now, rather than later, someone must advance their wages, and
clearly this service has a value. But proponents of the labor theory would have it both ways:
workers are to receive the full future value of their product now. The final theoretical failure of
the labor theory of value is the value effort fallacy. It is folly to assume that all effort produces
value. Every day each of us wastes time on fruitless efforts. To equate labor with the

Similarities Between Plato And Aristotle
Plato versus Aristotle Plato and Aristotle, two philosophers in the 4th century, hold polar views on
politics and philosophy in general. This fact is very cleverly illustrated by Raphael s School of
Athens (1510 11; Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican), where Plato is portrayed looking up to the
higher forms; and Aristotleis pointing down because he supports the natural sciences. In a
discussion of politics, the stand point of each philosopher becomes an essential factor. It is not
coincidental that Plato states in The Republic that Philosopher Rulers who possess knowledge
of the good should be the governors in a city state. His strong interest in metaphysics is
demonstrated in The Republic various times: for example, the similes of the cave, the sun, and
the line, and his theory of the forms. Because he is so involved in metaphysics, his views on
politics are more theoretical as opposed to actual. Aristotle, contrarily, holds the view that
politics is the art of ruling and being ruled in turn. In The Politics, he attempts to outline a way
of governing that would be ideal for an actual state. Balance is a main word in discussing
Aristotle because he believes it is the necessary element to creating a stable government. His less
metaphysical approach to politics makes Aristotle more in tune with the modern world, yet he is
far from modern. Plato s concept of what politics and government should be is a direct result of his
belief in the theory of forms. The theory of forms

therapists use different strategies than a traditional mental health professional. Because these
meetings do not take place in the regular setting, the doctor uses a variety of methods to make
contact with the client. The session can be conducted through the use of online video chats, by
email and phone calls. But there will be times when the connection for some of these methods is not
clear, and the therapist might not hear a client s entire response. The online therapist must have the

Free College Education Should Be Free
College Education should be free. Initially, my first reason will be about how it manages to help
poor students get an education. Furthermore, my second reason will be about how more people
would be able to venture onto college. To sum up, my last reason will be that students will have
more freedom to choose a major they enjoy. Here is my information to prove this.
For my introductory reason, free college education would help poor students get educated. Indeed,
some people are very poor. There are so many parents in the world that are poor, so that makes
children unable to get education easily. According to my pro article, They see it as both a
private and public benefit. This quote means that it will benefit private and public schools. Poor
children usually have to move to public schools, considering that they are free. If college is free,
poor children would be able to get a job they want, because they can be educated on the job that
they want to take part in. Some parents do not have any money, and they don t have jobs. They
would not be able to earn enough money for their child to get educated. Free college will help
solve this issue if they are old enough for college. It can make some parents thrilled, that their child
is finally getting an education. Additionally, to quote trade schools.net, it says A better educated
population could result in smarter decision making at every level of society, which could lead to
faster progress in solving our most difficult,

otherwise that volunteer will continue to performs the task wrong. Without a volunteer

1918 Air Mail History
In 1918 the Post Office Department took over control of the United States air mail system from
the War Department. The department purchased aircraft and hired as well as trained pilots to fly
the new airmail routes across the United States. Throughout the years the air mail system faced
many difficulties. As the Post Office Department found ways to deal with these difficulties they
slowly began improving the infrastructure of the air mail system. The money that the government
was allotting for this new air mail system began to attract contract carriers. This infrastructure and
money provided by the U.S government began paving the way for commercial aviation today
(US Aerial Mail Service 1918 1926. (n.d.)). On May 15, 1918 the first air mail routes were

In 1995, The People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson, became the most
publicized murder case in history (Price Lovitt, 1997). From the very beginning, it seemed that the
prosecution s case against O. J. Simpson for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle

The sock was important because it appeared to have blood stains on it. For the prosecution s case
against Simpson, they had the blood stains analyzed by the Department of Justice serologist
Gary Sims. He testified in the case that the blood found on the socks were what he considered to
be spatter stains or something along those lines (Walraven, 1995). The blood was tested and was
found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this
evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood
stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that
the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place.
Based on his experience in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis, he was able to present an
argument that the blood stain was a result of a compression transfer (Walraven, 1995), rather
than blood spatter, as the prosecution suggested. The compression transfer is said to be the
result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it
from the surface of the sock. The amount of blood present on one particular portion of the sock
was also inconsistent with what you would find if spatter had occurred. Additionally, based on
an identical spot of blood forming on the opposite side of the sock from, it was argued that the
blood could have only come in contact with the sock while it was not being worn and in a
relatively flat position. The theory of the sock was that the blood was planted on it, and that could
have only have happened if it was not being worn at the time of the

Essay On Greenhouse Gases
Emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, are among the major threats to
sustainability. The damages they cause to the environment, represent serious external costs to
society i.e. a negative externality. The impact of these emissions does not directly fall on those who
conduct the production activities responsible for the emissions but on the entire society, especially
the future generations. Diagrammatically, this situation can be represented by a marginal social cost

As reported by the article carbon taxes are one of the simplest, market friendly way of driving
with climate change . They have in fact numerous advantages. First of all, they bring a consistent
government revenue which can be spent to subsidies renewable sources of energy. Secondly, these
taxes make the energy prices more predictable, which will increase the level of business confidence
because firms can now planning their future investments with more security. Finally, they are not
subjected to corruption, since they cannot be manipulated like the cap and trade system. On the
other hand they may be too low, resulting in less incentive for the producers to use other form of
energy, since is more convenient for them just to pay the tax. Moreover, this could mean a rise in
unemployment since the output will decrease and therefore firms will reduce the workforce.
Furthermore, the tax will not make a compelling contribution because Bangladesh is a small
producer of carbon dioxide, meaning that it will not make a significant contribution to contrast the
climate change, which is a global phenomenon. Finally, as stated in the article there is the danger
that the burden of the tax will be passed to the consumers, putting a greater financial pressure on the
lower income households.
An alternative for government is to set instead a cap and trade system, which is a system in which

The Drone Age Is Coming Per Galeotti
Executive Summary
The drone age is coming per Galeotti . It has been estimated that annual spending on drones
around the world will almost double to $11.4 billion by 2022. New technology has been driven by
the military, and drones are critical to military operations. Due to changing times, drone use is
rapidly adjusting to commercial use by civilians.
This drone revolution has massive implications, ranging from legal and moral to economic and
geopolitical. It will be a deeply disruptive technology, able on the one hand to provide undreamt of
capacities to impoverished people and countries, and on the other to widen the gap between haves
and have nots. It may prove a creative, empowering experience, but also has the potential to be
destructive, destabilizing and divisive.
Drone one day will fight our wars and be a huge asset on the battlefield as well as controlling
hostile or volatile situations.
Currently, drone technology is being driven by military applications, and this will continue as they
become increasingly varied in their roles. Drones will do our work. Drones will carry out tasks
humans cannot, or do not want to do themselves. From remotely piloted ambulances to leading
SWAT raids in hostile situations, from collecting garbage to moving goods, they become
ubiquitous, even making their way into the media, gathering news footage and becoming
entertainment tools.

The Consequences Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase set a dangerous precedent as the President of the United States, Thomas
Jefferson and Congress ignored the constitution when agreeing to purchase the territory. This
purchase of land violated the limitations that Thomas Jefferson and Republicans had fought for
while the Federalist party was in control of the Presidency and Congress. However, the political
climate of France, Spain and the United Statesset the stage for Jefferson to violate his strict
constructionist beliefs, to allow the Louisiana Purchase.
The Louisiana Purchase was the agreement to purchase the land west of the Mississippi River but
east of the Rocky Mountains, and from the Canada Lake of the Woods in the north to the Gulf of
Mexico in the south. This purchase would eventually lead to the formation of part or all of fifteen
states. The agreement was between France and the United States of America.
At one time this land had been under the control of Spain following the French and Indian war,
but France ceded the land to Spain for payment of debts for the war. For approximately thirty
years Spain did very little to develop Louisiana. In 1801 Spain signed a secret treaty to return the
Louisiana Territory back to France, in exchange for Napoleon s promise to give the Spanish royal
family rule over Tuscany. For reasons of his own, Napoleon, the leader of France, in 1803 offered
to sell the land to the United States of America. The leaders of our country were concerned that the

Beach Decor Research Paper
Do you want to feel like you are closer to the beach? Often after a vacation from the beach, all we
want to do is go back. The feeling is so strong that we want to create that same feeling inside of
our homes. By creating that feeling of peace, it will make us feel as if we have been spending the
whole day at the beach once again. The beach offers so many different details that allow us to
create a home beach decor to our liking.
One of the best places to begin with beach decor is a patio or enclosed sun room. Since these rooms
are already outside, you can dream of being close to the beach (if you aren t already). When
thinking of the beach, think of the colors that calm you. Colors that you can use in your beach

Sea life such as dolphins, seagulls and crabs are among the first animals that usually come to
mind. The walls in a room can be decorated with photos of dolphins or birds flying across the sky.
For a comedic approach, there can always be little crab statues or other accessories that can sit on
a shelf or table. Even photographs of marine animals can be a beautiful addition to any room.
Another beautiful aspect to add for beach decor are ocean sunsets. Sunsets usually offer an array
of beautiful colors that paint across the sky and reflect off the water. A sunset can create a serene
feeling that makes one feel at peace.
To tickle one s senses, candles that have smells that are similar to the ocean or beach could make
beach home decor come alive too. Find candles that have hues of blues, greens and tans. The
scents can make one feel as if they are truly at the beach. Candles often give off a relaxing vibe for
a peaceful setting.
If you want your home to feel like your favorite beach retreat, you can use some of these ideas for
inspiration. Home should always be a place to relax at. By adding beach home decor, a room can
feel like a mini vacation to get away from the stress that may enter our lives every now and

Essay On Ed s Tall Tales
Humankind fought numerous wars in the twentieth century. In the United States, none affected the
everyday lives of those left at home to the extent that the Second World War did. The government
rationed essential war material, such as rubber, gasoline, and numerous food items. Teens, disabled,
middle aged, and elderly, male and female, kept farms productive and factories turning out

opportunities for adventure and financial gain. For countless people, the war changed the direction

The Elections Of South Carolina
Over the last few decades, we have seen a shift in voter participation, and involvement in the
election arena rather it be national, state, and or local levels. According to Time Magazine, 2014
mid terms voter turnout was at a 72 year low. At only 36.4% of U.S, eligible voters voted in 2014
mid terms, down from 40.9% that voted in 2010 mid terms. Analyst views the decline as the
millennial generation coming into effect, which clearly indicates the age group (18 33) seems to
have a significantly lower turnout rate compare to the older age groups. With less participation in
state and local elections, we now face decisions such as elections in South Carolina being
cancelled if the incumbent as no challenge, according to Cindi Scoppe associate editor at The
State . This doesn t provide ample explanation considering that the mid terms elections do in fact
represent a significant portion of state level elections, which ultimately allows individuals to
experience policies being implemented at a much greater effect. So the questions arise are we
happy with single file candidates ascending to the elected office with no election? Is it the lack of
interest or it doesn t matter who s in the seat? What does this say about the public responsibility for
electing these people as our representatives to make decisions that impact our daily lives?

Cystic Fibrosis Introduction
Introduction
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that must be carried by both parents in order
to for the person to suffer from it. If one of your parents has it, then you will definitely be a carrier
of the disease and it will be carried to your offspring. Children who inherit a faulty CFTR gene from
each parent will have CF.
This disease affects organs such as the liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines.
This disease disrupts the body s salt balance leaving too little salt and water on the outside of cells
which makes the thin mucus that protects the linings of the airways, digestive system, reproductive
system, and other organs and tissues free of germs become thick and sticky thus clogging the
airways and damaging the lungs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cystic fibrosis can not be cured, it is chronic, but treatments could be helpful to ease the

The Three Tales of Cymbeline Essay
The Three Tales of Cymbeline
Cymbeline has always been a difficult play to categorize. The original collection of Shakespeare s
plays, quot; The First Folio quot; (published in 1623), classifies it as a tragedy; modern editors have
revised that to comedy, and to distinguish it further from other comedies, it is also referred to, along
with The Tempest, The Winter s Tale, and Pericles, as a romance. Of course, like so many other

The danger to Imogen s life by her husband s jealous action is as real as is Desdemona s fate, thus
propelling the play to the edge of tragedy. Unlike Iago, however, Iachimo (the similarity of their
names is interesting) repents (he is even ready to accept death as his punishment) and is then
forgiven by the generous Posthumus. The theme of forgiveness is characteristic of Shakespeare
s romances Hermione s forgiveness of Leontes is one of the most beautiful moments of The
Winter s Tale, and Prospero s decision to return to his kingdom is itself a forgiveness of the
wrongs done him. Another staple of romantic epics is the story of lost and found children. Often,
the lost child is a girl, but sometimes, as Shakespeare chooses here, the children may be boys.
The Guiderius Arviragus story includes the tale of Belarius, the quot;supposed father quot; who
is drawn from the quot;rusticated courtier quot; of pastoral romance. By deciding to make
Belarius a hunter and not a shepherd (as he does with the adoptive father of Perdita in The
Winter s Tale), Shakespeare permits the credibility of Guiderius and Arviragus as fighters in the
defense of their country. In Imogen s taking of the quot;poison, quot; Shakespeare employs a
standard device of Greek romance which called for the supposed death of a beloved woman; it is a
device that he uses in his tragedies (Romeo

The Subgenre Of The Genfield Genre
The thriller genre has undergone many changes and phases throughout the past, which is evident in
the changes within its subgenres, each of which has its own distinctions. Some subgenres of the
thriller genre include the detective thriller and the suspense thriller. Alfred Hitchcock revolutionized
the thrillergenreduring his lifetime. In fact, his work defined a whole subgenre of the thriller: the
suspense thriller. The thriller genre has evolved and developed over the history of film and has
changed throughout the postclassical and modernist periods. In the postclassical period, films
would focus more on developing the character of the protagonist rather than the antagonist. The
backstory and motives of the antagonist would not be a driving force in a film during that
period. In the postclassical period, the elements of good and evil in the films are usually very
distinct as well with little to no grey zone. However, as time passed, there was a transition from
the postclassical period to the modernist period which also brought about changes in some of the
aspects of cinema. During the modernist era, there was a greater emphasis on the antagonists of a
film. Films would oftentimes give antagonists some more attention and backstory than they did
before. There was also not as clear of a distinction between good and evil; there was oftentimes a
grey zone which allows the audience to feel empathy for the antagonist. This newfound focus on the
antagonists can be seen in Murder

The Problem Of The Infant
Thinking about these events, I developed the following theory on what could have occurred that
evening: At least one adult Bigfoot brought the infant to my house, creating a diversion by
scratching on the front door. Then, with our attention on the front of the house, they crept around to
the back of the house. The adult lifted the infant over the rail, then set it down on the deck. The
infant was too small to reach the carpet without taking one step, in the snow, on the deck, thus
leaving a footprint. It then made its way around the glass table, walking on the carpet, which had
very little snow on it. The infant opened the dog foot tub, consuming the dog food. The parent then
went around to the other side of the deck, reaching over the... Show more content on

The next morning, I went out before daylight to check the ash for footprints. To my shock and
surprise, it had worked!! In the ash, on the front left corner of my house, was a very clear
footprint! Retrieving my video camera, I began to take video in the low light conditions due to
inclement weather forecast to move in later that morning. The ash had also stuck to the bottom of
the Bigfoot s foot, this a positive print of the foot in the grass. It appeared from the direction of
the prints, the Bigfoot s destination back of the house, possibly to go over the four foot dog fence
into the backyard. The track was fifteen inches long, with the ball of the foot five and a half inches
wide, the heel of the footprint was four inches wide. Unfortunately, this was an isolated event. The
Bigfoot learn quickly, and though I continued to put the fireplace ash out when the weather would
cooperate, the Bigfoot avoided stepping into the ash.
We would continue to allow the Bigfoot to eat our dog food as the winter wore on. We did this
because, we did not know how the Bigfoot would react if we abruptly removed their food
source. In February of 2011, the Bigfoot began to develop a pattern of visiting approximately
once every ten days. The scratching on the door stopped and the dog food was taken less often. In
early March of 2011, my wife threw out about a dozen overripe clementines. She threw them into
the dog lot where the motion sensor flood light was located.

India s Caste System Of India
India s Caste System
The Caste system has aroused much controversy than any other feature of India s society. Every
day, Dalits are butchered, assaulted, abused, raped, lynched, shot or openly mutilated without
considering any consequences of the offenders. The deaths of pregnant women who are not able
to pay the bribes at government hospitals, some boys with eyes raised completely out for falling in
love with a girl of a superior caste, and horrid stories of employees boiled to death because of
spewing out arguments with the boss are continuously reported in mainstream newspapers. After
years of democracy, the social structure stands to practice the caste system disregarding
abolishment laws. Every international or national effort to abolish caste differentiation and
segregation has been proven ineffective. The caste system of India is a deeply inculcated social
problem requiring immense commitment domestically and internationally in understanding what
has stopped the measures to get rid of this ancient system and what measures are needed to
complete elimination of the system. Over a million people continue to suffer discrimination,
degrading treatment, and violence because of caste association. The caste system is based on
structural inequalities between high and low cast untouchables involving social isolation and
exclusion from participation in social, political, and economic developments of society.Dr. Susan
Bayly, an expert in the field, defines caste as not the

Informative Essay On Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is an inevitable thing, however, it is something our body needs. In today s society
being tan is seen as a fad. Tanning is the process of darkening the skin by sun exposure. Most
people want to be tan and go tanning frequently whether actually sitting out in the sun, going to the
tanning bed, or even getting a spray tan. Sunexposure is a good thing, however, too much exposure
can have not so great effects on your body. Sun exposure is very important for the body because it
is how the body gets vitamin D. Vitamin D actually classifies loosely as a hormone. When you are
getting exposure to the sun, the ultravioletrays shine on your skin triggering vitamin D synthesis.

What Family Offices Are All About And The Services They...
Financial advisory firms have become popular among affluent individuals and families. Whilst
there are a number of options available for wealthy families, many choose to go down the route of
starting a family office.
This guide will examine what family offices are all about and the services they provide. We ll
also look into the benefits of using a family office and the risks involved in setting up a family
office.
What is a family office?
You might be surprised to hear that family offices have their roots in the sixth century. Then, the
steward of the king had to take responsibility of managing the royal wealth. The concept has since
developed, with the Rockefellers setting up a family office famously in 1882.
Family offices are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SFOs focus on catering for the needs of a single family. Therefore, SFOs often look after other non
financial issues aside from the financial management. SFOs often manage aspects such as private
schooling and household arrangements.
On the other hand, MFOs are traditionally mainly focused on operating as a wealth management
firm on a commercial basis. MFOs look after a number of clients at the same time and often sell
services to interested families. In certain occasions MFOs can also be private, whereby they
provide services exclusive for certain families.
In many cases, the success of a SFO will eventually push it to become an MFO. This is due to
other families wanting to gain access to the services, which have helped the family to succeed.
There are different ways to classify family offices, depending on the type of services they offer.
Scott D. Gardner outlined the three model classification of family offices in the following manner:
Class A family office: Offers comprehensive financial and non financial services for a wealthy
family. The family office can look after the finances of the family, together with providing estate
management. The office is always run as a third party company with oversight from a family trustee
or administrator.
The family office will oversee all liquid and often illiquid assets of the family. The firm must
provide advice, which is free of conflict of interests. The fee structure is often a monthly or annual
flat fee.

The Old Regulations Regarding Statutory Reform
Executive Summary:
In conducting this report, it became clear that significant flaws were present with the old
regulations regarding statutory reform. These issues created audited financial statements which
investors were never fully confident with trusting, as well as creating many opportunities for the
independence of auditors to be compromised.
For this report, both group work for a presentation, as well as significant individual research went
into finding the relevant content for a comprehensive report. Concluding this report it is evident
that the new regulations do cover a wide range of ground, however there are many critics of these
new regulations, who feel they will add cost and complexity, whilst possibly harming the quality of
services accounting firms can overall offer to their clients.
Table of Contents:
1.1 Introduction
2.1 Issues with the existing regulations
2.2 What a Green Paper is, and what was discussed within
2.3 The new regulations
2.4 Views of critics

1.1 Introduction:
To fully understand this report, it is first important to understand the reasons as to why statutory
audit is important, and why the rules which regulate statutory audit to change over time. This can
be broken down into two questions.
Firstly, statutory audit is needed so that the financial statements which companies produce can have
an increased level of creditability and trustworthiness to them. This is so when users of the

Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron

the popular political figures in the recent Latin American history. Eva Peron is among the most
controversial women in the modern history and a significant Latin American political figure, has
also been portrayed as a cultural symbol through movies and popular music over the last decades.
The biography exposes Eva Peron s real humanity, and it does not only focus on her achievements

Marysa Navarro and Nicholas Fraser, however, maintain that there is no record of Magaldi
performing in Junin in the year 1934.
The Peronist version of Evita s participation in crisis placed her in the traditional Argentine woman
s role. Evita was depicted as a supportive and a faithful wife even in Peron s darkest hour. The
opposition s version was that it was Evita who resisted Peron s arrest and led the organizing his
release. On the surface, Evita s role description by the opposition appear to have some positive
qualities, they also had negative connotations that were disparaging both to Evita and her husband.
The actions of Evita taking the role assigned to Peron, she emasculates him and reveal her
masculinity.
Nicholas Fraser and Maryssa Navarro recognize the negative connotations of Evita s portrayal in
the Argentine context. This element alerts the reader to the meaning of the current Latin
fascination with Eva Peron. One the surface Evita seems to be a strong woman who is a role
model to others, but Both actors reveal her real self and attack her character of a woman who
leaves her traditions. Until the publication by Fraser and Navarro, Evita had been viewed as an
uneducated, obscure and a vulgar woman who used men to climb the gutter. She is depicted as a
scheming woman who manipulated herself into her powerful

The Bell Curve Dilemma And Performance Appraisal
The Bell curve conundrum
It is a well established fact that employed human capital provides the competitive edge to the
firms operating in the same competitive space. Organizations that have motivated and talented
individuals are likely to forge ahead of the pack, even if they have similar products or services.
That is why it is important that we manage the performance of the employees well. We discuss
the goals to be achieved during the year; provide feedback to employees on their progress and
modify the direction as the year progresses and organizational direction shifts. At the end of the
performance year, start pulling together information and evidence of how well the employees
have achieved the goals. Then apply a rating which will govern their payouts, promotions and
compensation and create development plans for the next year. We cannot fathom anything to go
wrong in this textbook laid process. It has been a best practice after all! But somehow
performance appraisal is the most hated organizational practice by the employees. No one is ever
happy with the results of their performance appraisals. Many solid, successful, and happy
employees find their ratings discouraging. At the same time we find the managers and HR to be
fidgeting uncomfortably even after doing everything they could to ensure that the performers are
well fitted in the bell curve. There has to be a better way. Have the companies like Microsoft,
Cisco, Accenture and IBM found the better way by doing

Slowly it dawns that we are not the master of our minds but actually the slaves of our minds. There
is failure, there is frustration, there is anger, there is plain discomfort when we resort to Mauna in
sincere earnest. The mind after all is not as obedient as what we thought it was. This makes us
humble bereft of natural pride and arrogance, generous and leads us to take a humane approach to
other people s shortcomings. When we stop giving the mind what it likes and wants i.e. when we
practice Mauna, we will realize that our own mind is not any better than anyone else s mind...
We thought that we are super nice and calm people, but not really.....
We thought that we are patient and compassionate people, but not really...
We thought that we are loving and unselfish people, but not really...
Thus, the practice of Mauna enables to see the truth of our own minds. It makes us more
compassionate and selfless, perform without any attachment, selfish desire and expectation. Our
thoughts, speech and actions get purified.
The purpose of Mauna is to turn our attention inward. As we tune into our inner space we are able
to identify and stop relating to what is called excess personality or externalized ego .
We begin relating to our Essential Self or Soul. It is our Essential Self that accesses our intuition
and finds the Infinite within.

Essay about Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Denial by definition is in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept
and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.
In Arthur Miller s play The Death of a Salesman the Loman family lives and breathes in denial.
This starts with Willy s and Linda s awkward and awful marriage and ends with their two
troubled sons. The Loman Family s dysfunctional traits come from years of self deception,
which they use as a means to mentally escape the cruel reality of their everyday lives. Their
eldest son Biff is the only member of the family to see these false hopes and makes the decision to

Linda Why s that dear. Willy I don t know why, I m not noticed. This quote shows Willy
contradicting himself. Saying he is very well liked in Hartford but then says he is ignored and
unnoticed most of the time. This shows that he frequently uses self deception to deceive himself
about his success. The truth about his life however is close by and this drives him insane. Linda
the wife and mother of the Loman house is no better than her husband. She likes to create
illusions that their life is good and that she is content with it. We all could tell this isn t the case.
She often feeds willy s self deception. She does this by agreeing with his crazy outburst and
accusations instead of correcting him or helping him. An example of this would be in Act one
in the opening scene. Linda: Where were you all day? You look terrible. Willy: I got as far as a

  • 2. The Jersey Shore After Hurricane Sandy As you all know the Jersey Shore took a beating after Hurricane Sandy. Our two houses survived for the most part, but being there after the destruction, hit me in a way I never thought about before. I felt in my heart that I was getting a glimpse into what an adopted child feels all through their transition. Today I was thinking about the day I spent down there waiting for the gas man to come. Let me explain... Since all power, gas and water had been shut down for some time we had to get everything working again. As I sat in that 44 degree house waiting for the gas man to get everything up and running, I got a glimpse out the window. I saw two ducks floating in the lagoon with garbage all around them and I started to take it all in for the first time since that October day had changed everything down there. It was a symbol of the past and the present coming together. There we were in a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before the storm hit I was there with a bunch of friends enjoying my world and my life and this house saw so much laughter, fun and good friends come together. It was alive! All summer long we were down there enjoying our New House. It was new because Hurricane Irene had ruined the one that stood there before. This New House was only eight months old and at that moment, as I stood there being one of the few that came away unscathed, I looked out into the night. It was just starting to get dark, the houses around me and across from me all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Napoleonic era foresaw the potential for use of a variety of arms, improved military tactics and strategies; however, failing to utilize the approach and maximize use of tactical resources to warfare is an illustration of ineffective tactical leadership. The Napoleonic era is fundamentally similar to warfare practiced today; specifically the integration of combined arms, adaptability of basic militarytactics and strategies, consideration of operational environment and logistical planning on the battlefield. These are key points Napoleon integrated during his era and today s leaders continue to consider and effectively utilize during warfare. Incorporating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The victor of warfare in both eras could very well be determined by who has the best logistical execution. A very clear illustration of this is shown in Napoleon s invasion of Russia. His lack of consideration for ensuring the troops were supplied with basic needs proved disastrous. Supplying a force the size of Napoleon s army was a logistical nightmare for the French command. He essentially overextended his supply train and left his army hung out to dry. Perhaps the biggest influence the Napoleonic era has on today s warfare excluding strategic improvement and tactics is recognizing the impact of poor logistical planning. Whether it s the war in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation Enduring Freedom victories in war cannot be achieved without providing sound logistical, operational, tactical, and strategical support. In today s warfare, we are still over stretching military logistic units and military forces that rely on contractors to provide many functions. It is important to note a shortcoming to each of the previously mentioned wars was a significant increase in cost to the government regarding logistics; however, none were considered failures as in the Napoleonic era. Owen explores the ideas of depressing and dark tones while explaining his trauma were Lovelace tests his perspective of war through love and honor. These poets express their ideas when using imagery and diction to convey depressing emotions and love. Owen has uses imagery serveral times throughout his poem to explain his traumatic event. For example, the narrator writes, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in the time. describes the idea of scared men in a panic try to put gas masks on. Also in the sentence Wilfred uses the words clumsy helmets as a possible way of mocking them for not saving his friend. Another example Wilfred writes, is the text, Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. which paints a picture of Wilfred in a cloud of smoke, barely seeing his friend die and also implying that there was nothing he could do because of how he only describes he was blinded by the smoke. Overall, Wilfred uses imagery to create a depressing tone when he is not able to save his friend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Confederate Viewpoints Beyond sharpening my social awareness, Intergroup Dialogue forced me to consider that my perception of the world is not the only one. For, as previously mentioned, I did not find that conflicting viewpoints were the most defining aspect of the IGD experience. Upon reflection, however, it is probable that I felt this way because the majority of the opinions expressed were similar to my own. The class was largely comprised of people of color who came off as mostly liberal in their political and social views. For myself, this is the norm. For someone else, however, this may have been completely different as compared to what they are used to. As an example, there was a time in class when Sarah, a European woman who was not born in the United States, observed to the group that her opinions are clearly a lot different than everyone else s. This statement occurred after what I would personally deem the most palpable demonstration of difference within the course: the debate over whether public displays of Confederate symbols should be permanently removed and banned. This dissimilarity in perspective arose during Four Corners, an activity wherein students individually move to different corners of the room in order to demonstrate the extent to which they agree or disagree with statements read aloud by facilitators. When an opinion stating that the Confederate flag should be banned was read, nearly every student moved to the agree half of the room. However, Sarah ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Bad Hooks Catch No Fish Bad Hooks Catch No Fish A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost, unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers. With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a summation of multiple views could introduce a novice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Changing Relationship Between Great Britain And The... Change Over Time Essay During the time period of 1600 to 1776, the relationship between Great Britain and the colonies changed massively. The relationship between Great Britain and the colonies changed greatly because of three main reasons: the relationships that the colonies and Great Britain were built on, the struggles that the colonists faced because of their relationships with Great Britain, and the anger that the colonists expressed because of the ridiculous taxes that they had to pay. Once the colonists realized that they were suffering under British rule, most of the colonists became eager to be independent from Great Britain. The colonists Second Continental Congress believed that the acts and taxes created by the British Parliament were unconstitutional, unjust, and unfair towards the colonists and because of that belief, the Declaration signers forever changed our country. Before 1600, many countries were looking to colonize the New World and one of those countries was obviously Great Britain. In an informative research paper called The First Colonies North of Mexico , it states, Richard Hakluyt, a Protestant minister and geographer, wrote books urging colonization to accomplish five goals: (1) extend Protestantism, (2) expand trade, (3) increase Englands markets, (4) reduce unemployment, and (5) provide bases in order to attack Spanish ships in case of war. The resulting summary of perceptions is also an output measure of leadership effectiveness, since the style and behaviour of leaders will affect morale and motivation. Israel believed Godmade humanity with purpose, great design, and good, whereas Israel s neighbors thought that the gods created humanity as an afterthought, with little purpose, and humans were made from the bad blood of an evil god, so they were not good. The coyote finds the buffalo s skulls on the ground and throws it around, because he is dead. Little does he know, the buffalo comes to life and chases him. The buffalo ends up giving the coyote a chance, because he wants new horns, to kill the young buffalo. The Buffalo kills the young buffalo and takes the herd back. In return of the sharp horns, he gives coyote a calf, to live off of his fat, but warns him not to kill him when he becomes hungry. He promises to do this, but ends up becoming very sick of eating the fat, and kills the buffalo. In American society, we value loyalty, trust, and honesty. McGee graduated from Chicago s Dusable High School in 1938 and pursued a higher education by attending the University of Illinois in 1939. It was there that he joined ROTC. When war was declared on Pearl Harbor, McGee applied for a pilot s slot in an experimental squadron and passed the exams. According to the National Aviation Hall of Fame, on October 19, 1942, he received his orders and made his way to Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama to begin training with his fellow African Americans. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When McGee began his career in the Air Force, African American s were still seen as unequal to white Americans in every aspect. It wasn t until July 2, 1964, that President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on race. Previous to this, the Jim Crow laws were used as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to become pilots in the military. Once this changed, a new door opened for colored pilots causing many to stay in the military long after the war ended and turn it into a career, as McGee did. Although McGee s career began due to WWII, it certainly did not end there. McGee went on to serve in Korea as well as Vietnam. By the time McGee retired from the Air Force on January 31, 1973 he had earned awards such as the Oak Leaf Cluster, and had six thousand three hundred hours of flying fighter jets. He went on to become President of the Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated for two presidencies. This is significant because McGee helped show the nation that African Americans are capable of being not only some of the best airmen out there, but also some of the best leaders. He never quit in the journey to better himself and helped pave the way for many African Americans who hold the dream to fly. In the long run, the color of one s skin means ... • 15. Beach Boys Caroline For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a... This is also present in the second verse between the words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with melisma. • 19. My Favorite Character In The Taming Of The Shrew Taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you assignment. Who is your favourite character? My favourite character in the taming of the shrew is tranio because although he is not a antagonist like petruchio, lucentio or the sisters he is the character that the play relies on. The plot of the taming of the shrew consists of a man named petruchio marrying a woman named Katherine so that another man named lucentio can marry Katherines younger sister Bianca. Tranio is a great help to this play by convincing lucentio to go and find some girls in the first place and he also convinces the sisters father babtista that he is lucentio so that lucentio can follow his love Bianca. Tranio does not marry by the end of the play although he is a great help to lucentio giving him great ideas during his peruse of love like convincing him to pretend to be a teacher named Cambio to get closer to Bianca. The reason I like tranio best is because he is very selfless and devoted to lucentio and his plans. 2. Write a love poem or sonnet from the perspective of Petruchio. (100 words) Katherine my dearest, You are to me as fish are to the sea, swimming and wading let our love never start fading. We will live together as we age, we will never break after any rage, we will only grow stronger like a steel cage. I am sorry for any damage that will be done, I knew our love would sprout after our relationship had begun, I just hope we never stop having fun. Katherine my feelings for you are unexplainable, if my feelings for you were words they would be unattainable, Katherine let our love never be detainable for I will never hold you down. I will only let you have what you need and if you need me then I will let you roam free, free in our free love as we are prisoners being let free leaving our chain, embracing our pain and joining each other in forevermore. Sincerely petruchio. 3. Is Taming of the shrew a sexist play? (200 words) I believe that the taming of the shrew was an early adaption of a feminists story. There are sometimes subtle and hidden hints in the taming of the shrew that point out to feminists and sexist topics. Nineteen Years A Slave By Solomon Northup Essay As Americans today, we learn the history of our country, the good and the bad, however no one can truly grasp the realities of slavery unless they have experienced it themselves. 12 Years a Slave is a phenomenal book because, being a reflection of Solomon Northup s life, it accurately portrays the life of a black slave during that time period, including intense detail that arises a variety of emotions in the reader throughout the book. Published in 1853 in New York by Derby Miller, and written by Solomon Northup himself, his memoir entitled, 12 Years a Slave is a phenomenal narrative of the accounts he experienced as a free man kidnapped and sold into slavery that assisted in opening the eyes of the public to the disturbing and barbaric realities of slavery in the Antebellum South. Throughout the book, Solomon Northup gives an account of his life from the time he lived as a free man, to the time he was kidnapped and sold into slavery, as well as his experiences as a slave, and up until he became a free man again. In the beginning of the book, Solomon explains his life as he enjoyed the blessings of liberty in a free state (Northup 10). His father was a slave who acquired his freedom when his slave owner died and was then able to be emancipated, which led to Solomon being born a free man. Student Relationship With Student Relationships Madelynn Mills Mr. Bernard English 1301 5 November 2017 Teacher Student Relationship Considering that most students spend five to seven hours a day with their teacher for almost ten months, it is safe to say that school is a big part of a student s day to day life (Urooj). Since students spend most of their time in schools, it is import for them to have a positive relationship with their teachers. A social capital in a classroom setting is defined as having a caring teacher student relationship where the students feel that they are both cared for and expected to succeed. Social capitals can work in many different ways, it can reduce dropout rates by nearly half, help encourage the idea of going to college and furthering their education, and provide support for their academic endeavors (Gallagher). The simple task of just getting to know the students can have such a huge positive impact on the student s social development. If a teacher really wants to create a positive relationship with their students so they can further help their academic development, it would be wise for them to communicate with their students. A key part of communication is actively listening to what the other is saying. Actively listening, in regards to teachers and students, means that the teacher should not just listen to what the students are saying but listen for the meaning behind it. This will develop a trust between the teacher and the student and would help grow a positive relationship (Zakrzewski). When a teacher actively listens to their students, they will become aware of any difficulties that they are having. The factory owner has done nothing to earn the money and the $5 per hour he receives is surplus value , representing exploitation of the worker. Even the tools which the factory owner provided were, according to Marx, necessarily produced by other workers (Wollstein). According to the labor theory of value, all profits are the rightful earnings of the workers, and when they are kept from the workers by capitalists, workers are simply being robbed. Marx called for the elimination of profits, for workers to seize factories and for the overthrow of the tyranny of capitalism. Basically out of the worker labor, the companies make far more than what they paid the workers, while the companies get richer and richer while the workers remain poor (Mandel). There are some flaws to the labor theory of value. For example, most workers prefer to be paid when their work is completed rather than when their products are sold which may be months later. For workers to be paid now, rather than later, someone must advance their wages, and clearly this service has a value. But proponents of the labor theory would have it both ways: workers are to receive the full future value of their product now. The final theoretical failure of the labor theory of value is the value effort fallacy. It is folly to assume that all effort produces value. Every day each of us wastes time on fruitless efforts. • 23. Similarities Between Plato And Aristotle Plato versus Aristotle Plato and Aristotle, two philosophers in the 4th century, hold polar views on politics and philosophy in general. This fact is very cleverly illustrated by Raphael s School of Athens (1510 11; Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican), where Plato is portrayed looking up to the higher forms; and Aristotleis pointing down because he supports the natural sciences. In a discussion of politics, the stand point of each philosopher becomes an essential factor. It is not coincidental that Plato states in The Republic that Philosopher Rulers who possess knowledge of the good should be the governors in a city state. His strong interest in metaphysics is demonstrated in The Republic various times: for example, the similes of the cave, the sun, and the line, and his theory of the forms. Because he is so involved in metaphysics, his views on politics are more theoretical as opposed to actual. Aristotle, contrarily, holds the view that politics is the art of ruling and being ruled in turn. In The Politics, he attempts to outline a way of governing that would be ideal for an actual state. Balance is a main word in discussing Aristotle because he believes it is the necessary element to creating a stable government. His less metaphysical approach to politics makes Aristotle more in tune with the modern world, yet he is far from modern. Plato s concept of what politics and government should be is a direct result of his belief in the theory of forms. The theory of forms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, my second reason will be about how more people would be able to venture onto college. To sum up, my last reason will be that students will have more freedom to choose a major they enjoy. Here is my information to prove this. For my introductory reason, free college education would help poor students get educated. Indeed, some people are very poor. There are so many parents in the world that are poor, so that makes children unable to get education easily. According to my pro article, They see it as both a private and public benefit. This quote means that it will benefit private and public schools. Poor children usually have to move to public schools, considering that they are free. If college is free, poor children would be able to get a job they want, because they can be educated on the job that they want to take part in. Some parents do not have any money, and they don t have jobs. They would not be able to earn enough money for their child to get educated. Free college will help solve this issue if they are old enough for college. It can make some parents thrilled, that their child is finally getting an education. The blood was tested and was found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place. Based on his experience in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis, he was able to present an argument that the blood stain was a result of a compression transfer (Walraven, 1995), rather than blood spatter, as the prosecution suggested. The compression transfer is said to be the result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it from the surface of the sock. The amount of blood present on one particular portion of the sock was also inconsistent with what you would find if spatter had occurred. Additionally, based on an identical spot of blood forming on the opposite side of the sock from, it was argued that the blood could have only come in contact with the sock while it was not being worn and in a relatively flat position. The Consequences Of The Louisiana Purchase The Louisiana Purchase set a dangerous precedent as the President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson and Congress ignored the constitution when agreeing to purchase the territory. This purchase of land violated the limitations that Thomas Jefferson and Republicans had fought for while the Federalist party was in control of the Presidency and Congress. However, the political climate of France, Spain and the United Statesset the stage for Jefferson to violate his strict constructionist beliefs, to allow the Louisiana Purchase. • 39. The Three Tales of Cymbeline Essay The Three Tales of Cymbeline Cymbeline has always been a difficult play to categorize. The original collection of Shakespeare s plays, quot; The First Folio quot; (published in 1623), classifies it as a tragedy; modern editors have revised that to comedy, and to distinguish it further from other comedies, it is also referred to, along with The Tempest, The Winter s Tale, and Pericles, as a romance. Of course, like so many other plays of Shakespeare, these classifications are only guidelines rather than definitions, for an attempt to analyze a work of art according to somewhat arbitrary classifications is to diminish the very essence its originality that makes it a work of art. Undoubtedly, there are many aspects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The danger to Imogen s life by her husband s jealous action is as real as is Desdemona s fate, thus propelling the play to the edge of tragedy. Unlike Iago, however, Iachimo (the similarity of their names is interesting) repents (he is even ready to accept death as his punishment) and is then forgiven by the generous Posthumus. The theme of forgiveness is characteristic of Shakespeare s romances Hermione s forgiveness of Leontes is one of the most beautiful moments of The Winter s Tale, and Prospero s decision to return to his kingdom is itself a forgiveness of the wrongs done him. Another staple of romantic epics is the story of lost and found children. Often, the lost child is a girl, but sometimes, as Shakespeare chooses here, the children may be boys. The Guiderius Arviragus story includes the tale of Belarius, the quot;supposed father quot; who is drawn from the quot;rusticated courtier quot; of pastoral romance. By deciding to make Belarius a hunter and not a shepherd (as he does with the adoptive father of Perdita in The Winter s Tale), Shakespeare permits the credibility of Guiderius and Arviragus as fighters in the defense of their country. In Imogen s taking of the quot;poison, quot; Shakespeare employs a standard device of Greek romance which called for the supposed death of a beloved woman; it is a device that he uses in his tragedies (Romeo ... The Subgenre Of The Genfield Genre The thriller genre has undergone many changes and phases throughout the past, which is evident in the changes within its subgenres, each of which has its own distinctions. Some subgenres of the thriller genre include the detective thriller and the suspense thriller. Alfred Hitchcock revolutionized the thrillergenreduring his lifetime. In fact, his work defined a whole subgenre of the thriller: the suspense thriller. The thriller genre has evolved and developed over the history of film and has changed throughout the postclassical and modernist periods. In the postclassical period, films would focus more on developing the character of the protagonist rather than the antagonist. The backstory and motives of the antagonist would not be a driving force in a film during that period. In the postclassical period, the elements of good and evil in the films are usually very distinct as well with little to no grey zone. However, as time passed, there was a transition from the postclassical period to the modernist period which also brought about changes in some of the aspects of cinema. During the modernist era, there was a greater emphasis on the antagonists of a film. Films would oftentimes give antagonists some more attention and backstory than they did before. There was also not as clear of a distinction between good and evil; there was oftentimes a grey zone which allows the audience to feel empathy for the antagonist. This newfound focus on the antagonists can be seen in Murder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Problem Of The Infant Thinking about these events, I developed the following theory on what could have occurred that evening: At least one adult Bigfoot brought the infant to my house, creating a diversion by scratching on the front door. Then, with our attention on the front of the house, they crept around to the back of the house. The adult lifted the infant over the rail, then set it down on the deck. The infant was too small to reach the carpet without taking one step, in the snow, on the deck, thus leaving a footprint. It then made its way around the glass table, walking on the carpet, which had very little snow on it. The infant opened the dog foot tub, consuming the dog food. The parent then went around to the other side of the deck, reaching over the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next morning, I went out before daylight to check the ash for footprints. To my shock and surprise, it had worked!! In the ash, on the front left corner of my house, was a very clear footprint! Retrieving my video camera, I began to take video in the low light conditions due to inclement weather forecast to move in later that morning. The ash had also stuck to the bottom of the Bigfoot s foot, this a positive print of the foot in the grass. It appeared from the direction of the prints, the Bigfoot s destination back of the house, possibly to go over the four foot dog fence into the backyard. The track was fifteen inches long, with the ball of the foot five and a half inches wide, the heel of the footprint was four inches wide. Unfortunately, this was an isolated event. The Bigfoot learn quickly, and though I continued to put the fireplace ash out when the weather would cooperate, the Bigfoot avoided stepping into the ash. We would continue to allow the Bigfoot to eat our dog food as the winter wore on. We did this because, we did not know how the Bigfoot would react if we abruptly removed their food source. In February of 2011, the Bigfoot began to develop a pattern of visiting approximately once every ten days. The scratching on the door stopped and the dog food was taken less often. • 42. India s Caste System Of India India s Caste System The Caste system has aroused much controversy than any other feature of India s society. Every day, Dalits are butchered, assaulted, abused, raped, lynched, shot or openly mutilated without considering any consequences of the offenders. The deaths of pregnant women who are not able to pay the bribes at government hospitals, some boys with eyes raised completely out for falling in love with a girl of a superior caste, and horrid stories of employees boiled to death because of spewing out arguments with the boss are continuously reported in mainstream newspapers. After years of democracy, the social structure stands to practice the caste system disregarding abolishment laws. Every international or national effort to abolish caste differentiation and segregation has been proven ineffective. The caste system of India is a deeply inculcated social problem requiring immense commitment domestically and internationally in understanding what has stopped the measures to get rid of this ancient system and what measures are needed to complete elimination of the system. Over a million people continue to suffer discrimination, degrading treatment, and violence because of caste association. The Bell Curve Dilemma And Performance Appraisal The Bell curve conundrum It is a well established fact that employed human capital provides the competitive edge to the firms operating in the same competitive space. Organizations that have motivated and talented individuals are likely to forge ahead of the pack, even if they have similar products or services. That is why it is important that we manage the performance of the employees well. We discuss the goals to be achieved during the year; provide feedback to employees on their progress and modify the direction as the year progresses and organizational direction shifts. At the end of the performance year, start pulling together information and evidence of how well the employees have achieved the goals. Then apply a rating which will govern their payouts, promotions and compensation and create development plans for the next year. We cannot fathom anything to go wrong in this textbook laid process. It has been a best practice after all! But somehow performance appraisal is the most hated organizational practice by the employees.
