2. Black Elk Is A Native American Spiritual Leader Of The...
Black Elk Speaks is a translated Autobiography of a verbal account from Nicholas Black Elk, who
was a Native American spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe during the period of westward expansion by
the United States. His account reveals to the audience many different aspects of life for the Lakota
people during the turbulent transition from their traditional nomadic tribal to a reservation culture.
Through Black Elk s life story, there are a plethora of small hints and glimpses of their world, in how
it functions and how their culture governs the choices that they make in their lives.
The best example that Black Elk provides the audience with, is the vision that he describes in Chapter
3, The Great Vision (17 36). This Vision occurs when Black Elk is a young person of the age of nine.
The events preceding the vision describes his life of that time, until he seems to fall severely ill from
some unknown disease, to the point that he requires the assistance of a pony drag in order to remain
with the tribe as they travel from location to location. In this state he is given a vision from the forces
that control the world. Various images, figures and forces lead Black Elk along a journey of discovery,
where the fate of his life, the Lakota people and gifts are presented to him. This great vision remains
the driving force behind Black Elk s life for the remainder of the book.
The question arises; What makes this vision so important for Black Elk and the narrative of the book?

3. The Effects Of Child Labor During The Industrial Revolution
In the early nineteenth century, Great Britain became the first country to industrialize from an agrarian
economy to a country that was controlled by industry and the manufacturing done by machines, which
started the Industrial Revolution. Manufacturing of goods were produced in large factories rather than
small shops, and families moved into the cities to find work. This was the start of the rise of child
labor, wherein 1881, 141,500 children under the age of 15 working in factories (Tuttle). Children s
lives were changed dramatically, they were overworked, underpaid, and treated poorly before reforms
were made to help solve the problem of child labor. Child labor can be described as children who
work to produce a good or a service which can be sold for money to the marketplace, regardless of
whether they are paid for their work (Tuttle). Child labor was a problem during the Industrial
Revolution when factories, mills, and mines expanded. Children were cheap, easy to train, and small
enough to reach parts of the machines that were too challenging for adults to reach. Many of the
children that were employed were those of the poor and working class family, so children were
expected to work to help contribute to their family s income. Children started working as young as
four years old. They spent long hours in unhealthy working conditions, only getting a couple hours a
day for a break. Many children worked 16 hour days in atrocious conditions and got little to no pay

In general, the vertical resolution it is better to use wooden bars. The higher reflection coefficient of
the metallic bars makes the tail of the reflected pulse in the first bar strong enough to blur the second
one when the two bars are close to each other. This effect is noticeable in the results obtained with the
500 MHz. The horizontal resolution worsens as the reflectors are separated from the frequency
because the footprint gets larger. The simulation and experimental values range approximately from
λ/2 to 2λ for the high frequency. The results obtained for different frequency, the wavelengths

the reflector s material is smaller. The best resolution is obtained with the 1 GHz as its resolution is

5. Benefits Of Dual Language Bilingual Education
A dual language bilingual education strategy is usually employed in public schools. Typically the
minority language students and the majority language students are evenly distributed throughout the
classrooms. Both languages are used for instruction with evenly distributed 50/50 time. One teacher
shall instruct with the home language while other instruction is in English. The two teachers work
collaboratively through all the lessons. Since these students are in mainstream education, it is no
surprise that most students prefer to use English the majority language. The goals of a dual language
program are to develop high levels of proficiency of the first language then subsequently the second
language. Consequently, it is desired to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bilingual education programs in the United States have a long history despite an ongoing battle.
The goal of bilingual education has been focused on two areas of assimilation and integration.
Bilingual education programs help immigrant children to learn English and adopt American culture.
Under social and political preferences, most of the schools use transitional bilingual education but
with English only. As a result, the students home languages, culture are devalued in the schools.
Students learn English while at the expense of losing their first language. Despite much research
bilingual education is not fairly recognized by the public. However in fact when a bilingual education
program supported the minority language were consistently superior in various outcomes. Case
closed, bilingual education programs should be properly administered with the requisite support
needed. We still wish to look at some further benefits though. Students who are given instruction in
their home language helps them to catch up to their English speaking peers in subjects such as English
language art, reading, and mathematics. Bilingual education students do better than the English only
instructed students overall. Bilingual education is more effective than English only monolingual
education. Actually, by using the students first language in school this does not interfere

6. The Importance Of Inclusivity In The Digital Age
In the digital age, it is important for us as the perpetrators of technology into the modern era to be
cognizant of what it is that we create and display for humanity s benefit in a technological sense.
Areas such as gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity and culture in particular should be addressed with
inclusivity as opposed to the unfortunately common exclusivity within this digitality of course, such
subjects should be addressed with a progressive awareness in all areas; however, it is in the rapidly
evolving environment of technology since the start of the information age that these issues need to be
approached in an especially conscious setting. In a more specific sense: gender, sexuality, class,
ethnicity and culture ought to progress as rapidly as our technology does. Technology today does
attempt to address the concerns of these certain communities; however, there is always room for a
more inclusive internet society.
Take, for example, Youtube s most recent censorship of LGBTQ+ content: as has been a particularly
controversial subject of debate, recent Youtube videos containing material considered inappropriate
can be filtered out through a toggleable Restricted Mode, which is a tool that allows users to designate
the content that they want to view in their feed. For more ample definition, Youtube Help states that,
Restricted Mode is an optional setting that you can use to help screen out potentially mature content

incarceration and overcrowded jails and prisons? The slogan ?Three Strikes You re Out? was for a
toughening stand on crime endorsed by the federal government in the 1980 s. Historically speaking,
this rhetoric stood as the ideology behind the War on Drugs as a logical and necessary response to a
rise in drug crime and the emergence of crack cocaine in inner city communities (Alexander, 2011).

Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain
The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western
Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If
not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people s lives.
Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population 9,000) and
after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the eastern most
point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On the northern and
eastern sides of town are steep hills where the richer families live in Victorian style houses. At the foot

The town also became the end of a railroad line because of the lumber companies. Prostitution
prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until the
late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The lumber boom slacked off a few years ago
as the economy fell and available lands were depleted. Now people are worried that the Northwestern
logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen is marked for a slow ugly death. (Gilmore

According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen s name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic and
means the meeting of two rivers. Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the Chehalis
and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west southwest
of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry prospered until
the 1920 s.
If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding
estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come
every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting areas.

11. Atomic Mass Of Pure Aluminum Lab Report
Introduction This experiment had two objectives: 1) to determine the atomic mass of pure aluminum,
and 2) to determine the masses of aluminum and zinc in an unknown aluminum alloy. To fulfill both
of these objectives, both pure aluminum and the unknown alloy were reacted with HCl in order to
produce a chemical and H2 gas. The reaction of aluminum and zinc with HCl are found below:
2Al(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2AlCl3(aq) + 3H2(g)
2Zn(s) + 6HCl(aq) ⟶ 2ZnCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) Both metal samples would dissolve into liquid HCl,
producing a H2 gas which would then displace grams of H₂O into a previously weighed beaker. The
increased mass of the beaker was then used to determine the amount of moles of H2, which was
subsequently used to determine the moles of aluminum reacted. Using the first reaction shown above
and molar mass ratios, the atomic mass of the pure aluminum sample was found, fulfilling the first
objective. A provided formula in the lab manual was then used to convert moles of H2 into a mass
fraction of aluminum in the unknown alloy, completing the second objective. Results for both
reactions were measured and calculated with the use of provided formulas found in the lab manual.
Observations and Procedure Four trials were conducted in this experiment. The first two trials were
set up to ultimately record the experimental molar mass of aluminum, and the last two trials were set
up to record the percentages of aluminum to zinc in an unknown alloy. The purpose of two trials for

12. Essay on Separation of Commercial Banks and Investment Banks
One of the key concerns growing out of the debate on whether to separate or merge retail banking and
wholesale/investment banking activities has been the stability of a nation s banking system. The
experience of the US banking system has suggested that merge of commercial and investment banks is
a better approach to achieving stability. After the global financial crisis, the American economy went
into recession. The policy priority of American government was then to intervene into its banking
system so as to mitigate the impact of the crisis. One advantage of the merger of banks is that it can
improve the overall condition of the economy (Khan, 2012). The merger of banks unites small and
weak unit banks which will then be able to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the contrary, others have opposed the separation of banks, arguing that the Great Depression
actually had much to do with small local unit banks which constituted the fatal weakness in the
banking system (Casserley, Härle, and Macdonald, 2011). This argument, therefore, suggests that the
cause of the Great Depression was not the merger of commercial and investment banks but the
separation of banks. Accordingly, they have pointed out that the increasing number of small banks as a
result of the separation of banks could exacerbate the vulnerability of the financial system (Casserley,
Härle, and Macdonald, 2011). The enactment of the Glass Steagall Act in 1930s seems to provide an
indication that the views in support of the separation of banks had prevailed over those in favour of
the merger of banks. However, it is submitted that the Glass Steagall Act had failed to solve the
underlying problem of the US financial system. For instance, in 1980s, despite the operation of the
Act, a third of small specialist financial institutions failed during the saving and loan (S amp;L) crisis
(Casserley, Härle, and Macdonald, 2011). This indicates that the statutory requirement of bank
separation is not the right solution to the underlying problems in the US financial system.
Secondly, the merger of banks has the advantage of helping small banks to become more competitive

INTRO:
Dystopian fictions are worlds that distortedly reflect our own; exaggerating and extorting aspects of
our society within a foreign, and often, futuristic setting. In comparison to Utopian fiction, a dystopian
story depicts cruel and harsh universes where ruling themes are things such as inequality, loss of
freedom and environmental degradation. All these traits are commonalities also found within our own
society, dystopic fiction inflates them to the point where they become the focal aspect of the world we
are critiquing. Some such examples of dystopic texts include the book, The Handmaid s Tale , the
2006 movie, V for Vendetta , the short novella, Animal Farm , and Kinji Fukasaku s controversial
film, Battle Royale . These visual and literary representations of the dystopic genre portray to us ...

All four texts are dystopic in nature, the formulation of each community and their descent into a

and commonly, totalitarian government seizes control and almost immediately begins isolating a

Intellectual disability is becoming more common in today s society. According to the literature, Down
syndrome (DS) is the leading cause, with an incidence rate of 1 in every 700 live births. 5,500
newborns are affected each year in the United States (Abbeduto, Warren, Conners, 2007; Roberts,

cases. Trisomy 21 is where the individual is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Roberts,
Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26). Another cause of DS is known as Translocation. Translocation occurs
when part of chromosome 21 attaches to another chromosome. The least common cause is Mosaicism,
which is the result of a nondisjunction of chromosome 21 that places an extra copy of the chromosome
in some, but not all, cells (Roberts, Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26). Therefore, DS is associated in multiple

an example of a country s government using social media to defy rebellions. Until the mid 2000 s,
only 3% of people in Kazakhstan used the internet. This number had increased to 54% in 2013
(Niyazbekov, 2017). Kazakhstan s government went online during the same time and ministers
followed Prime Minister Karim Massimov and started blogging. The aim was to change the public s
perceptive of the government being too bureaucratic and ineffective. After president Nursultan

Kazakhstan came in 2nd place in a global rating of citizens e participation denoting ease of access to
public (Niyazbekov, 2017). However, following the Zhanaozen city protests, it signalled to the
government to treat social media sites such as Facebook with caution as it was clear that it could be
used as an effective tool to organize movements. This resulted in the government tightening the media

21. Essay On The Art Of Camille Corot
When I first saw this painting done by Camille Corot, I was in awe. It was one of the many beautiful
paintings that I saw on my first trip to the Fine Arts Museum of Houston. The painting looks almost
dreamlike and soft, which amazed me on how a painter could create an art piece as such. This piece is
called Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld, by Camille Corot, French, 1861, the medium
is oil on canvas. I was immediately attracted to this art piece because of the earthy and naturalistic
colors used, and how the landscape seems almost hazy. This enchanting painting tells the tragic Greek
myth of Orpheus, the Greek god of music, saving his wife, Eurydice, from Hades, God of the
Underworld. Orpheus absentmindedly breaks the terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Devoted to his paintings he once said to a friend All I really want to do in life... is to paint landscapes.
This firm resolve will stop me forming any serious attachments. That is to say, I shall not get married .
I like the softness of how Corot painted this art piece. The painting, to me, looks simple yet
topographical, due to the trees and bushes painted. What I did not like about this piece is the way he
depicted the Underworld. The Underworld is said to be very dark and gloomy, due to all the dead
spirits living there, but Corot paints it with light and lush, making it look anything but eerie. He uses
Time and motion by showing Orpheus legs in a walking position, whilst holding Eurydice arm,
leading her out of the Hades Underworld. Also, the texture of the trees and bushes have a realistic
topographical and layered appearance with shades of blacks and browns. Since Corot is a landscape
painter, he often uses atmospheric perspective to create the illusion of depth. He shows the spirits
mourning their death in the background with shades of cool tones and uses light colors, while
emphasizing Eurydice and Orpheus in the foreground with more deep and darker colors. Another
element I ve seen in Corot s painting is his use of space, he shows Orpheus and Eurydice on the corner
right while the rest of the image is more focused on his beautiful landscape in the background.
Additionally, the focal point that immediately caught my eyes attention was the spirits depicted

The 2017 Advanced Placement World History Exam is a high stakes exam that if passed students will
receive college credit at various collegiate institutions. The foundation of the exam is intended to
assess student s historical thinking skills and their ability to support a historical argument within six
specific historical time periods. Students are required to analyze and interpret historical evidence and
understand historical point of view, all the while, learning the world history content from10,000 BCE

demonstrate their ability to apply the historical thinking skills to a specific world history standard
within a specific time period. The structure of the SAQ short answer question I agree with as it
requires students to demonstrate specific identification and analysis, however the aspect that I do not
agree with is the simple fact that students are required to complete four out of four of the questions but
only three will be graded. This brings me to my point of grading and pacing of the exam, particularly
the stimulus based multiple choice questions and the SAQ. If students are required to directly address
one or more of the thematic learning objectives and respond to a specific primary source, historical

Masters of deception: Male Cuttlefish are coming to Steal Your Girl
Do you think you can keep other males away from your female partner by guarding her 24/7? You
know what? You cannot...Not if you re a male mourning cuttlefish. Biologists from Macquaire
University, Sydney have found out that by abusing their exceptional visual signaling skills male
cuttlefish are able to steal partners of rival males in front of their eyes!
Mourning cuttlefish are small marine animals which are 15cm on average and belong to the group
(Cephalapoda class to be specific) which include squids and octopus and their relatives. Mourning
cuttlefish live on eastern coasts of Australia. These animals like their relatives, are extremely social
and have high cognitive abilities. They are mostly known for their incredible ability to change color

Music is one of the most fascinating aspects of a civilization, and yet it s importance is often
overlooked by many in today s world. The existence of music dates well beyond any known
civilization, and its gradual evolution drastically varies from culture to culture. To me, the notion that
music is a mere reflection of society is a statement I used to take for granted. Although this notion is
true to some degree, mainly with some popular music, my research has led me to conclude that all
music influences society on a greater scale than one would assume. In ancient times, there existed
many correlations between changes in music followed by changes in society. These range from the

Having found a new direction in my life, I left everything in the hectic New York City behind. I
moved on my own to a rural area in Washington State in an effort to live a more peaceful and self

refined. I began to seriously practice the classical guitar and composed for it as well. Since then, I also
started experimenting with binaural beats and have used them extensively in meditation and other
disciplines. This led me to research the effects of particular frequencies exerted on the brain, and how
they could easily be used to induce different brainwave frequency states. I discovered how playing
music helps to create a lot of new neural networks, increase the bridge between the two brain
hemispheres (corpus callosum) and develop higher levels of perception. But the rabbit hole was
deeper than I thought.
I read books on the influence of music on society throughout the ages. Each specific type of music has
produced an effect on history, morals and culture. I found examples of drastic changes in music that
led to drastic changes in civilization. Different styles of music within a society led to different
coexisting ideals. Sometimes new popular music led to a social revolution. In places like ancient
China, where music varied very little, traditions were maintained for thousands of years. The Chinese

We make important decisions that affect our everyday lives. Every decision we make has a
consequence. When I make a decision, I choose to think long and hard about that choice because I
know how much a bad decision can affect me negatively. Looking back, there are multiple decisions
that occurred that I either regretted or approved. The three most important decisions I have made was
when I decided to go to Carlsbad High instead of Sage Creek High, going all out in my first year in
football, and helping my friend with depression.
One decision that I made in my life that affects me greatly is when I chose to go to Carlsbad instead of
Sage Creek. When I was in the middle of deciding, I listed the pros and cons if I went to either school.
One example about the pros of going to Carlsbad High is they have a football team, my older sister
already goes to Carlsbad High, the people that go to Carlsbad are typically more laid back/relaxed and
so on. Some pros I thought of for Sage creek was my favorite basketball coach of all time was
coaching the varsity basketball team, some of my close friends were already going to Sage Creek
High, and the School is nicer than Carlsbad High. I thought long and hard about the decision, but
when I chose to go to Carlsbad I had a feeling I made the right decision. If I chose to go to Sage Creek

It is a common conception that Obama s prior efforts of engagement with the Iranian government have
set many precedents for how the U.S is to communicate with Iran (and the Middle East) in the future,
with some even referencing Obama s attempts to amend the relationship between the two countries as
monumental for not just the political legacy of the U.S, but specifically, the Obama administration as
well. The relationship between the two countries seems to be primarily focused on the fact that the
U.S is trying to control how Iran manages their nuclear weapons program, as the Obama
Administration is unsure of what the nuclear capacity of the country is, and thusly, this may severe
and cause suspicion to arise not just with reference to neighboring countries, but also one that
connects to dangers that are prevalent on an international level; this is important because we are not
aware of what the destructive capacity of the weapons are as a whole, due to the secretism that the
Iranian regime s nuclear program undertakes when looking into building their weaponry. The Obama
Administration seems to have taken the approach of establishing strong diplomatic ties in order to
prevent Iran from engaging in any acts of mass terrorism, as they have priorily expressed interest in
taking action against Israel. In some cases the U.S utilized sanctions, some which caused disruption in
their oil industry, thusly impacting their economy to a certain degree. Many have criticized Obama s

If the palate is not yet formed, this is a cleft or/and palate. The signs of a child having a cleft lip or/and

child is born, there are many effects. The child has difficulties with eating, speaking, and also
breathing. With the excessive opening of the nostril, the child is more prone to frequent and
reoccurring ear infections. The nasal cavity is advised to be cleaned thoroughly and covered ever so

28. Causes Of Teen Suicide
Teen Suicide
Teenage suicide is a major public health concern in the United States. According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention there were approximately 5,079 suicides in 2015. This occurred
mainly between the age of 15 and 19. This is the second leading cause of death among this age group.
There are different reasons why teenagers may have suicidal thoughts and commit suicide. This essay
will identify the different causes of suicide among teenagers and propose solutions to the problem.
Teen suicide may be defined as the intentional act of a teenager ending his or her own life. Teen
suicide attempts are more common among females when compared to males even though male
teenagers are the ones who actually carry out the act of suicide. The higher rates of suicide in the
United States are attributed to the changes in the suicide methods. Suffocation which happens through
strangulation and hanging is the most lethal method of suicide that is considered by teenagers. The
other forms of suicide that are used by teenagers include firearm suicide in which the teenagers use
firearms to end their lives (Holliday and Vandermause 168). Teen suicide affects both male and female
teenagers even though males are at an increased risk of suicide. Teen suicide rates in the United States
doubled between 1960s and 1990s. There is no clear explanation on this trend even though the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention attributes this to increased reporting. There has been

LMI countries account for eighty percent of CVD related deaths in the world, bearing the largest part
of the global CVD burden.
The rise of cardiovascular diseases in LMI countries follows the same pattern as in the developed
world in the latter part of the twentieth century. However, the CVD phenomenon has different
ramifications for low and middle income (LMI) countries from the developed world. High income
countries have been more successful in cardiovascular disease (CVD) control, where CVD incidence
and mortality rates are on the decline.
Developing countries do not have the necessary healthcare systems like the advanced nations.
Government hospitals do not provide the necessary care that CVD patients require and private
healthcare provid ers leave many patients financially crippled. Not only are the governments of these
countries unable to provide sufficient financial resources for health spending, global agencies
committed to impro ving the world s health fail to include cardiovascular illnesses in their social
investments portfolio.
To address this alarming trend, the U.N. convened a high level meeting in 2011 to highlight the severe
consequences of CVD prevalence on public health in developing countries. It came to the conclusion
that poverty worsens the CVD epidemic in LMI countries and the disease in turn weakens the
individual s economic condi tion. However, a lot of research is required to understand

30. The Help Accuracy
The movie The Help shows the lifestyle of black women in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960 s. A
young adult named Skeeter who wished to become a journalist gathers maids to write about their
testimonies as black maids, which at first refused because of the fear of getting caught yet later agree.
The setting of the movie is historically inaccurate because it didn t go into detail about the civil rights
movement and all the things that occurred during this time, which was an important time in history. As
well as the Jim Crow Laws, the movie also never spoke about what white people would do to those
who were colored for example beating them to death. The civil right movement was an attempt to

Medgar was the target of many threats. He was murdered June 12 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith,
who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a couple hours after president Kennedy s speech on the
support of the civil rights movement (NAACP). In the movie the maids and everyone in Jackson were
in fear. In actuality the black community including maids participated in marches and protests towards
the justice of MedgaEvers (Truthout). The movie is also accurate because it includes the relationship
between Minny and Celia which demonstrates that not every white person was against blacks in
reality there was also whites who joined blacks in strikes to fight for civil rights. The bond between
them is what sends the message of not all whites disliking blacks because Celia, aside from Skeeter, is
the only female the treats the her maid as her close friend. An assumption of the film is that the
character Skeeter is suppose to resemble the author, Kathryn Stockett, by adding parts of her life into
Skeeter s character. Another common thing is that in the film Skeeter has trouble trying to collect a
story that is worth publishing while Stockett had trouble publishing the book and received sixty
rejections before publishing the book. According to abc news, the inspiration of story behind The Help

as there are no conflicts that have to do with which religion to follow (Waxman, 2009). In the secular
or less Orthodox world, children can be brought up following two religions or even no religion at all.
If they are brought up with no religion, there is a very low chance that they will follow Judaism when
they grow older. Also by following two religions they may become very confused and they may in
turn cause them to choose one over the other. When even one child doesn t choose Judaism, the

However some people believe that limiting intermarriage will harm the Jewish population by not

They attempted to erase her American ways, and replace them with Japanese ways. In realizing the
ways that they had imposed upon her, Kondo realized how too often academics impose upon the
people that they are studying. She says that In searching for structure to impose on experience, one all
too readily reduces the complex to the readily apprehensible, assuming authority and control over one

Kondo argues that writing ethnography is a way for the writer to reencounter the other safely . Going
through the entire process of her experince with the informants allows the author to place herself into
the text, and allows her to address herself. Encourpoating the ethnographer s personalized experiences
into the writing puts the person at a certain level of vulnerability. They are, in many ways, just as
vulnerable as the people they are studying when so much of their personhood is included into the
book. However, such notions cannot be taken too far. It is dangerous for an author to believe that s/he
can fully understand how their informants think and feel just because they experience similar feelings,
such as vulnerability.

Global warming is the warmth of Earth s temperature by the sunlight as a main cause. 30 percent of
the sunlight reflected back into space by clouds, and the remaining 70 percent is absorbed by land, air

is a phenomenon, it has started from the last century. It impacts on Earth and that can lead to climate
change in the world. A lot of scientists have approved that global warming is a fact and have approved
natural changes and they discovered the reason behind that is global warming. Understanding the
cause of the Pleistocene ice ages has been a significant question in climate dynamics since they were
discovered in the mid nineteenth century. The identification of orbital frequencies in the marine
record, a proxy for global ice volume, in the 1970s demonstrated that glacial cycle are ultimately
paced by astronomical forcing (Jeremy. D. 1). Therefore, we should save our planet by preventing
global warming from happening. Global warmth starts with sunlight. The earth tries to absorb the
largest amount of sunshine. Temperatures are certain to go up further. But why should we worry about
a seemingly small increase in temperature? It turns out that the global average temperature is quite
stable over long periods of time, and small changes in that temperature correspond to enormous
changes in the environment (Riebeek. 2). This phenomenon has led to an unprecedented rise in

of the other economies in the region. Today, they continue to face numerous obstacles to becoming a
developed state. This paper will examine some of the reasons why the Philippines overall economic
growth during the East Asian economic miracle period, has been slower than that of the other East
Asian developing countries. One of the reasons that the Philippines lagged behind their rapidly
developing neighbors, is that the Philippines have historically had a political system that caters to the
wealthy elite. Second, they have accumulated massive foreign debt and have made it a priority to
repay it at the expense of other growth promoting ventures. Third, the Philippine government has not
been successful in changing economic policies that have inhibited growth. Fourth, investment in
human capital in the Philippines has not been as effective as in other countries in the region. Finally,

39. broken hip with answer 4
Chief Complaint: 72 year old woman who fell on her right hip.
History: Margaret Donovan, a 72 year old white female, was brought to the emergency room by her
son in law after falling in her bathtub. She was previously in good health, despite leading a relatively
sedentary lifestyle and having a 30 pack year history of cigarette smoking. The only medication she
currently takes is Inderal (propranolol) for mild hypertension. She fell upon entering the bathtub when
her right leg slipped out from under her; she landed on her right hip. There was no trauma to her head,
nor does she complain of right or left wrist pain. However, she reports severe pain in the right hip and
upper thigh, and was unable to get up after her fall. An injection ... Show more content on

Given the above considerations, Margaret s osteoporotic femurs are vulnerable to fracture because of
(A) the loss of spongy bone in the epiphyses and (B) the thinning of the bony collar in the diaphysis.
6. Describe the changes that a broken bone undergoes as it is healing. The bony collar of long bones
helps them withstand compressive stress by the mechanism described in #4A above (i.e.
hydroxyapatite, weight bearing pillars). In addition, long bones also withstand compressive forces by
virtue of the spongy ( cancellous ) bone in the epiphyses. The interlocking network of bony plates
(called trabeculae ) found in spongy bone help to distribute the weight of the body out to the tough
bony collar of the diaphysis. In this way, bony plates act much like the trusses or struts in old time
railroad bridges which distribute the weight of the train evenly over the entire bridge.
7. During her long recovery, Margaret is advised by her physician to begin weight bearing as soon as
she can. How does weight bearing influence the process you described in question #6? (Be specific in
your answer and describe what weight bearing does to bone at the microscopic level.) The most
popular hypothesis regarding the effect of weight bearing on bone remodeling is called Wolff s law .
Wolff s law states that bone grows and remodels in response to the mechanical stresses placed upon it

40. Ramona Flowers Character Analysis

There was a time in my life where all I wanted to be was Ramona Flowers. I thought she was so cool
in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with her colored hair, her pithy remarks, and her success at attracting
romantic partners (which is all I wanted as a twelve year old girl.) However, upon revisiting the
concept of Ramona Flowers, I realized how annoying and awful the concept of her is. (Granted, I am
basing this characterization of the movie and not the comics. I m sure they are different characters.)
The concept of Ramona Flowers is completely subservient to the male desires. She completely
represents the pseudo strong female who all the guys desperately want, but can t have; however, in
actuality, Ramona Flowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Green s debut novel Looking for Alaska and his later novel, Paper Towns, directly points to the
flaws with this sort of adulation and infantilization of mental disorders. In Looking for Alaska, Pudge
is in love (see: infatuated) with the idea of Alaska: a mysterious, rebellious teenage girl. However,
throughout the novel, Green constantly points to Alaska s depressive and suicidal tendencies:
smoking, drinking excessively, attention through sex, and other self destructive behaviors. Even
though to the reader these obvious red flags flash violently on every page, Pudge transforms Alaska
into this perfect manic pixie dream girl, instead of a depressed teenager who desperately needs help.
In the end, this ignorance towards Alaska s obvious problems leads to her suicide. Furthermore, in
Paper Towns, Q becomes obsessed with Margo s cool, don t give a crap attitude and willingness to
have wild (and illegal) adventures. This perceived notion of the perfect manic pixie dream girl led him
to search for her all over the place; yet, when he finds her, he becomes disillusioned to her facade and
she s her for who she really is: inconsiderate and afraid. The same serves for Summer in 500 Days of
Summer and Penny Lane in Almost Famous: the male character becomes obsessed with their quirks
and instabilities, but fail to see the troubled person inside. When they

41. A Letter From The Birmingham Jail
The primary goal of a sermon in church is to convince or persuade the congregation to turn to God and
follow his ways and beliefs. A sermon is commonly broken up into several subsections beginning with
(1) an introduction to establish a common ground of religious feeling ; (2) a statement of the text
which is often drawn directly from the Bible; (3) the body of the sermon, which consists of repeated
emotional climaxes; and (4) the conclusion which resolves the emotional tension aroused by the
sermon by drawing the sinners to God. (Pipes 143). Based on these characteristics and King s
religious background and experience as a preacher, it is logical to argue that the structure of A Letter
from the Birmingham Jail resembles that of a sermon which is aimed at an audience much larger than
that of just eight clergymen. Through his brilliant use of persuasive methods and emotional appeal,
Martin Luther King turns a simple response to a letter into a national cause for white support to
combat segregation. He begins his letter by stating that he is writing this letter while confined here in
the Birmingham City Jail (King 2). However although one in such conditions for being wrongly
convicted and forced to write this within small jail walls would be expected to be hostile, King s tone
is instead calm and patient. He addresses his attackers as my dear fellow clergymen (2). And even
apologized that they expressed different opinions (3). This, to an open audience, gives

Stimulus generalisation is the tendency for stimuli similar to an original stimulus involved in a
learning situation to produce the response originally acquired. Behavioural psychologists suggest that
a person produces a fear reaction to the trauma situation; this fear is then produced again in response
to a similar stimulus, due to classical conditioning. Evidence for this theory was produced by Pavlov
(1927) who conducted experiments were dogs were presented with stimuli that elicited fear responses.
The dogs associated these stimuli with particular environmental cues. When these stimuli were
produced in front of the dogs the fear response was expressed. Evidence against the theory is that
classical conditioning cannot be the only mechanism involved in PTSD, since not everyone who is
exposed to a traumatic event develops the disorder. Cognitive explanation PTSD evolve due to a
person not processing the traumatic memories. Not processing the memories occurs due to the person
keeping busy with socially valued life roles. Therefore the memories do not get integrated into a
persons view about the world. To stop the symptoms of PTSD the cognitive explanation suggests that
people must process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their world views, once they
have thought about their experience the responses associated with it will go.

The Trail of Tears was a series of relocations of the Native American people by the United States
government in 1832. Although a very controversial idea, president Andrew Jackson pushed for the
Indian Removal Act of 1830 which allowed the relocation of the Native Americans from their
homeland to Indian Territory of present day Oklahoma (O Brien). The Trail of Tears had a negative
impact on the Native American people, while benefiting the United States with a time of economic
prosperity and growth. Around 1800, many factors came into play that brought about the Indian
Removal Act. For starters, the invention of the cotton gin in 1790 revolutionized the cotton industry
creating an effective and efficient technique for large scale farming. (O Brien) Purchasing the Native
American land would allow cheap and abundant soil for the expansion of agriculture into the South
(Sansing 59). As well as expanding the business of agriculture, the United States government wanted
to expand their territory South towards the Mississippi River, while building a territorial wall from the

49. Suggest reasons for trends in the use of technology in the...
From looking at figure 5 a varity of trends can be shown. When focusing on internet users a very slow
rate of growth can be shown, this may be due to the small amount of countries that are able to get
access to the World Wide Web due to connections. Over a 10 year period from 1998 to 2008 there can
be seen a major rise in the use of the internet. As the internet is a relatively new device it is clear that
those less developed countries would take time to get hold of it. 1990 was quite early for a developing
country to use the internet but is is clear as the world has become more globalized and developed the
internet usage has shot up. This is due to a technological advance around the world and slowly the

Developing countries find it hard to put the technology into place, but with the help of the developing
countries it is a lot easier.
Mobile phones can be seen to only start taking shape in 1996 but when they are introduced they soar
above any other form of technology. They end up in 20098 to having 60 handsets per 1000 people
which is a huge amount. This is due to the cheap costs that are present and they are affordable to the
people which there low wages. Many companies such as Nokia have seen a mobile phone market
available in developing countries and they cause a lot more people to get hold of them. The
developing countries see how much of a difference they make to life and spread the word and soon a
lot of people are in possession. Unlike landlines there is only one satellite dish that is needed and these
can be place almost any where meaning they don t take up a lot of time and money. The running costs
are low as usually the spare parts may be made in the developing countries and easy ways of keeping
them charged are available such as using the sun. The fact that many people have them makes
business easier which attracts more people to have them making them very popular compared to the
land line. It is the fact that they are very simple and cheap that there are so many being used in the
developing world compared to the internet and land

50. Carrier Corporation Case Study Analysis
Intro During the 1990 s the Carrier Corporation was working on a highly innovative new global chiller
under 300 kW, called Aquasnap. The new design would integrate a Hydronic Kit inside the chiller, all
previous versions required installation of the kit outside the chiller. While the new design would cost
less, require less installation time, and save floor space, it did raise some concerns. Carrier was
becoming deeply invested in the design and was worried if the world was ready for such an innovative
product. The following sections answer some of the issues; what should Thierry Jomard s (lead
engineer) decision be, should the hydronic kit be integrated and how does Carrier address future
environmental regulations, what are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way Carrier could compete was by designing a product with low labor costs (Gibbons, and
Ramdas) (i.e. the aquasnap). The implementation of the integrated aquasnap, will increase at a slightly
greater rate each year, and will allow Carrier to earn about $8.6 million dollars more in 2002 alone,
and $22.5 million more from 1997 to 2002. Also mass production will lower the overall cost of
manufacturing due to various factors (i.e. cost of materials, number of parts, number of operations,
assembly time, assembly cost, selling price, and overall price will all be reduced). The share
projections are a steady 14% until 1998. If the delay bleeds into 1999 the overall loss on that entire
year would be $6.8 million, but the overall market share would still increase $15.7 million through
2002. Scenarios similar to Aquasnap can be found in gaming consoles. The integration of the DVD to
the PS2 game console allowed Sony to set itself apart from Nintendo, making it the highest selling
game console ever. The PS2 saved the customer space, time, and money by not having to buy a dvd
player. Even though the PS2 was $100 more than the Nintendo N64, it dominated the market because
of simplicity and convenience (Playstation website). Aquasnap also creates simplicity and
convenience for the customer but is cheaper than the competitor; therefore similar market dominance
can be expected. The chart on the right shows the sales of the N64 and the above chart shows the
