Essay about Travels of a T-Shirt Review
Travels of a t shirt in a global economy In her book, The Travels of a T shirt in the Global
Economy, Pietra Rivoli takes on the intricacies and complexities of trade and globalization
through following the path of a T Shirt she purchased from Walgreens for $5.99. It is a very
informative book and her writing is such that the reader is left feeling both well informed on the
issues discussed, as well as entertained. Rivoli breaks up the book into 4 sections. In Part I, King
Cotton, we are brought to an area in West Texas, an area that boasts to be home to much of the
world s cotton. In fact, the main city, Lubbock, calls itself the cottonest city in the world (Rivoli

I think it also works to undo the notions that China was stealing away all our jobs in the apparel
arena, because despite the complex protectionist measures taken, America still lost lots of jobs
in the textile industry. The author points out that this is because of technology, and that when it
really comes down to it, China is losing their textile jobs at a rate faster than the U.S. did (142).
She also goes over some of the unintended consequences of the measures such as increased
material costs as a result of the increased import barrier (142). She also suggests in this section as
an alternative to erecting trade barriers, to instead compensate workers of the losing industries,
known as the compensation principle (151). Lastly, with the lift of the measures and quotas by
2005, there will be a new surge in Chinese goods to America, as illustrated in figure 9.1, page
167. China s percent increase after release from the quotas will measure some 900%. Finally is
Part IV of the book, My T shirt Finally Encounters a Free Market. This section deals with what
happens to the clothes after they are discarded, usually through donation to Goodwill or The
Salvation Army. In fact, American donations to these kinds of organizations have increased so
much that they have begun exporting the recycled clothing, nearly 7 billion pounds (Rivoli 176), to
other countries. The recycled industry has actually created jobs in Africa as America s old clothes

Levy Law Personal Statement
I became interested in pursuing legal education ever since I took grade 11 and 12 law courses in
high school. Those courses illustrated to me the significance of legal professionals to society s
stability and justice. To get a better understanding about the legal sphere, I enrolled in co operative
education where I was assigned to Levy Law Professional Corporation for the placement. I
immediately blended into the environment and started to excel at my tasks. After my co operative
education placement came to conclusion, the managing partner at Levy Law Professional
Corporation offered me an employment opportunity for my excellent performance. Throughout my
employment at Levy Law Professional Corporation I have been exposed to various legal
proceedings associated with the personal injury sphere that helped me to develop variety of skills,
including critical reading abilities, writing skills, oral communication, listening abilities, research
skills, time managementand task organization skills. It is without a doubt that I believe these skills
to be critical in succeeding in law school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

upholding contracts, human rights, operation of organizations, and most importantly justice.
Courses in my undergraduate studies have improved my analytical and critical skills as well as
understanding of human institutions and values, but most importantly helped me to further solidify
my career choice. I see myself contributing to society with my law degree in the future by upholding
justice and therefore contributing to the creation of economically stable, just, and diverse

Julius Caesar s Ethos In Laertes
After discovering his father s death, Laertes is angered with Claudius, the present king. Despite
the rage that filled Laertes heart, Claudius was able to not only quell Laertes anger, but gain
Laertes trust. Claudius manages to persuade Laertes to his side by appealing to Laertes ethos,
logos, and pathos. When Laertes first bursts into the castle, emotions everywhere are high,
however Claudius greets Laertes calmly, allowing him to speak his rage. Insecurity and anger
often go hand in hand, and in his emotionally unstable state Claudius easily changes Laertes heart
by crediting himself to be most sensibly in grief for [Laertes father s death] (Shakespeare 4.5.149).
By creating this morally right version of himself in Laertes mind,

Analysis Of Barry s Seeing Systems
More often than not, individuals in an organization display extremely predictable patterns of
behavior that they need to break out of in order to achieve success. However, altering behaviors
can be extremely challenging. Barry Oshry s Seeing Systems Unlocking the Mysteries of
Organizational Life (Oshry, 1995) shows how organizations are composed of Tops , Middles and
Bottoms and how each of these different hierarchical levels are accustomed to predictable and
unhelpful behaviors leading to many issues that organizations face. The PSO organizational
simulation conducted in the Powerand Politics in an Organization course was extremely helpful in
experiencing the system workings of an organization, especially, the predictable and unconstructive
behaviors that are exhibited by the Tops , Middles and Bottoms . The conditions and the situations
in the simulation reflected real organizational experiences and integrated a variety of organizational
dynamics, particularly power (and powerlessness) and structure.
The PSO organization s primary objective was to make greeting cards for its clients. There were
several roles within three different hierarchical levels (top, middle and bottom) that created the
structure of the organization. The tops were a small group consisting of 2 executives, the middles
comprised of 5 managers (Production manager, HR manager, Finance Manager, General Manager
and Food dept. Manager) and the bottoms consisted of around 18 workers. There

My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald
I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the
opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up
to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were
given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down
the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After
everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to
end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we
finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and
turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field
and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the
closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked myself in the room like a petulant child.
Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to see what everyone else was up to.
All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had been taken off of the trailer.
Helmets were promptly passed out and my brothers slung their legs over the bikes and were gone.
Not about to be left behind, I jumped on my ATV and I was on their trail. The trails were newly
cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a

Essay On Placement In A New School
Here I will discuss how I felt trying to fit into a new school district and what actions were taken
by the Administration. When Catholic School did not work out my parents once again found
another school. I transferred to the Brecksville Broadview Heights School District. While
outwardly things appeared better, they were not. A myriad of tests, followed by discussions with
my parents led to yet another solution; placement in a small group setting for English, Math, and
Reading. Perhaps, I was unable to learn in a regular classroom setting. Perhaps, a slower paced
setting was needed. The new schoolappeared to be the perfect fit. The teachers appeared friendly.

We were singled out, cut from the pack and not allowed to be a part of the elite society. We
struggled through elementary and middle school. We forged our own path and maintained a small
group of friends, those who were also unlucky enough to be in small group settings.
In this section I will discuss how the school district made a determination about how best I would
be successful based on my history in school. As school progressed, I found myself in High School.
Through the IEP process, which was designed to leave no child behind , it was decided that what
I needed was vocational training. I had been programmed to feel I was different, and incapable
of learning, I felt I had no choice but to go along with the program. I needed to fit into society, I
needed a path and one was chosen for me. My counselor thought Culinary Arts would be my
forte. Perhaps being of Italian decent, he felt I would make a good chef. Once again, instead of
addressing the real issue, it was determined I would be unable to succeed in college. Vocational
school was easier. I was able to eliminate the problem of the language barrier, since vocational
school focused on skills and not academics. I graduated, and found myself left in the real world
with no goals, and no career.
Finally I will discuss how these decisions affected me and what I am doing to change my path.
After High School, I made a decision that I did not want to become a chef. I wanted something

The Contribution Of The Civil Rights Movement
Many people are honored for their leadership, impact, legacy, achievements and hospitality. At
Columbus State University, there are multiple people that should be considered for an honor. Mary
Blackmon started women s athletics at CSU. Frank Brown , former president at CSU, transformed
CSU from a commuter college into the massive university it is today. Thomas Whitley was the
founding president at CSU. Carson McCullers was a well known author in Columbus. All these
people did something great for CSU. However, I believe John Townsend, the first African American
student at CSU, is the one who deserves a statue .
The Civil Rights movement was an incredible time in our history to see a drastic change in society.
The movement pushed laws to end racial segregation and discrimination , causing schools to be
integrated. Because of that movement, it allowed John Townsend to be the first African American
to enter what is now called Columbus State University. Being an African American myself, if it
wasn t for him being the first African American at Columbus State University, I wouldn t be able to
attend here today.
In my criteria of legacy and impact, John Townsend scored highest in both categories. An impact is
when a new idea comes and influence people from all around. A legacy is when something great
happens and remembered for generations .Because he was the first African American student at
CSU, it paved the way for a plethora of African American students to come to

Renaissance Art During Eighteenth Century Italy
Renaissance Art in Fifteenth Century Italy
The renaissance era is the mark of the rebirth period. It s the beginning of the modern world and the
ending of the Middle Ages. Renaissance era means the revival of great art and literature and it
began in Italy and spread into Europe between the 14th century into the 17th century, and made that
transition from medieval to modern time. (Dictionary.com) Most of the towns turned into cities and
businesses. Italy was forming into an urban city. A city that followed religion still and remained
loyal to the churches. The churches were the center focus of architecture. The people dedicated
their lives in creating magnificent architecture to the churches till they die and a family member of
theirs would continue their work.
The art form they used was Gothic constructions with carved decorations. Gothic art is a
characterized style with a pointed arch and ribbed vault. It was used for excellent woodwork and
stonework. Gothic styled art had extravagant details and realism. (Dictionary.com) Gothic art was
used mostly on the churches and sculptures. Graphic art came into action during the middle of the
fifteenth century and was developed in Germany and traveled to the rest of the world. Graphic art
is the art of printing, drawing and painting and engraving. It is also when you take your original art
design and print it onto fabric, or plate. (Dictionary.com) During this time the printing press came

Augustan Poetic Tradition Essay
Augustan Poetic Tradition
I do not in fact see how poetry can survive as a category of human consciousness if it does not put
poetic considerations first expressive considerations, that is, based upon its own genetic laws which
spring into operation at the moment of lyric conception.
Seamus Heaney, The Indefatigable Hoof taps (1988)
Seamus Heaney, the 1995 Nobel laureate, is one of the most widely read and celebrated poets now
writing in English. He is also one of the most traditional. Over a decade ago, Ronald Tamplin
summed up Heaney s achievement and his relation to the literary tradition in a judgment that
remains sound today: In many ways he is not an innovative poet. He has not recast radically the

Heaney, in fact, is one of the most skilled practitioners of traditional verse forms writing at present.
And since the poetic revolution is long over, and unrhymed, unmetered verse free verse has for the
better part of the last century been the norm, one is justified in asking why a serious contemporary
poet would be attracted to formal strains that lost their dominance some time around December
1910.
To answer this question I propose to focus on one of my favorite Heaney poems, The Outlaw, from
Door into the Dark (1969). The poem is written in that most untwentieth century of verse forms, the
heroic couplet (that is, rhymed iambic pentameter couplets: aa, bb, cc, etc.). What would attract
Heaney to such an uncontemporary even antiquated verse form, one that seems so inappropriate for
the subject matter of his early poetry? After all, would Harold Pinter be likely to compose a
neoclassical tragedy in the style of Addison s Cato? As I hope to show, the success of Heaney s
poem as brilliant, I think, as the widely anthologized Digging lies in his mastery of the couplet
form and particularly in his exploiting its formal resources for his own poetic purposes. To
appreciate this achievement fully, the reader needs to set the poem not just in relation to the rural
Irish themes of Heaney s early poetry, but also and more importantly in the

Japan and The Influence of Imperialism Essay
Japan, an isolated island located in the Pacific Ocean in East Asia,
surprised the world when it first opened its doors to Western
influence in 1854. While it had a strict policy about maintaining its
isolation, it had no choice but to succumb to imperialism. When
Commodore Matthew Perry visited, Japan realized that isolation had
resulted in their inability to develop economically and militarily
with the industrialized world. Thus from 1854 to 1914, the Japanese
changed from being under the influence of imperialism to becoming an
imperialist nation, as well as coming out of feudalism and going to
into modern militarism. Despite all these changes in its economy and
military, Japan had managed to consolidate its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan was able to build factories and set up
private organizations more rapidly because it did not need to
experiment with or invent anything new. By 1914, Japanese imperialism
had become a threat to the United States to the point that it had to
place an embargo in order to stop it from invading neighboring
countries such as Australia. The reason why Japan changed from being
threatened by Europeans and Americans to being as threatening as they
are is because they were motivated to become a powerful nation. Their
initial decision to open up trade with the West was prompted by their
desire to posses modern technology. Their motivation was caused by the
lack of resources, to earn its reputation as a strong nation and to
avoid to be manipulated by the West. The formation of the Greater East
Asian Co Prosperity Sphere created an independent capable of
eliminating imperialism from Asia and to develop a sufficient economy
in order to compete with the Europeans. This is different from what
was occurring in another East Asian country, China. Although both
nations were exposed to imperialism and were taken advantage of by the
Western nations, Japan avoided victimization and embraced imperialism.
As Japan became an industrialized power, the traditional feudal
society was replaced by a period of enlightened rule and eventually by
military dictatorship. In

Orphans in Nineteenth-Century England Essay
Orphans in Nineteenth Century England
There is no denying that the nineteenth century in England was a time of tremendous changes
throughout the social and economical spectrums. As the adults adjusted to these changes prompted
by the Industrial Revolution as best they could, many children, in particular orphans, were faced
with poor living conditions that limited their successes later in life. Although most orphaned
children were fortunate enough to be placed into sufficient living circumstances, many of them
were not as privileged. By discussing the various living conditions of orphans in nineteenth century
England, one can better understand their position in the English society and realize why their later
successes were so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unofficial fostering was also fairly common: among families of any social class, relatives might
take one or two children to raise as their own.... (106 07).
Most of these orphaned children were brought up within the family circle by grandparents, older
siblings, or aunts and uncles (Horn 63).
When orphans became members of new households they were normally accepted as just another
member of the family, that is, if the new guardians were of the same social class as the parents.
However, any inferiority in social class among the former parents of the orphan compared with his
/her new guardians often resulted in the orphan s mistreatment and neglect. This is not surprising
when considering the clear social distinction that was maintained among the different classes
throughout the nineteenth century in England.
Among children, these class distinctions were as obvious as they were among adults. There were
often negative feelings and rivalries between children of different classes. Lower class children
were usually forbidden to speak with children of higher status; however, upper class children who
were seen walking without an adult escort would often get heckled by the lower class children
living on the street. Some children resented these restrictions, although disobedience was seldom
considered (Horn 25). This type of behavior greatly contributed to the

Similarities Between Sparta And Athens
Abstract:
Ancient Greece was made up of a number of sovereign city states, each one responsible for
governing itself and establishing its own form of government. The two most renowned of these
were Sparta and Athens Sparta for its military prowess and its campaign to usurp other smaller city
states, and Athens, renowned for its cultural influence on the world at large, from architecture and
philosophy to art and language. This paper looks at the different systems of government in the city
states and how each one influenced the status of the state.
Keywords: Monarchy, Aristocracy, Tyranny, Oligarchy, and Democracy
Introduction:
There four main forms of government that existed in Ancient Greece were monarchy
(rule of one), oligarchy (rule of a few), tyranny (rule by force) and democracy (rule by many).
Aristocracy in the context of this paper, was not so much a system of government but more of a
hierarchy which allowed a citizen to rule. It was rare to find a commoner rising through the ranks
to become a leader leaders were more often than not picked from the aristocratic class, those who
by birth or social standing, became the elite of society.
Monarchy:
Monarchy is typically defined as rule by one person, often through birth right, who rules until death
(in extreme cases a monarch can be deposed), wherein the first born son takes over the monarchy.
The monarch a king or a queen in Ancient Greece, would have been an absolute ruler, meaning that

The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years, than in the previous 10,000. Michael

we grow our food changing, but we are also changing our bodies. According to the documentary

takes about 47 days to fully grow a chicken, and it is twice as big due to the fact that these
chickens are injected with hormones. While this literally brings more food to the table, it might not

In all, i feel that we, as americans should change something about what we eat. I feel that if we

it may affect our pockets, but it may be worth it in the long run. Organic food is always healthier for

Analysis Of Vineland And Robert Coover s Dramatic...
Abstract
The present paper traces the origins of Thomas Pynchon s novel Vineland and Robert Coover s
dramatic monologue Rip Awake to Washington Irving s short story Rip Van Winkle and attempts to
analyze both adaptations. Though Irving s short story dates back to an earlier time period in the
American landscape, it nonetheless forms the foundation of both Pynchon s and Coover s work.
Though Irving s writing style has often been called exceedingly British sounding, his narratives are
steeped in American history and the American way of life. Both Thomas Pynchonand Robert
Coover on the other hand belong to the postmodern age and deal with experimental fiction in
America. If Pynchon s fiction is described as encyclopedic, labyrinthine and convoluted then
Coover s is termed otherworldly and surreal. Despite the fact that most critics see both Pynchon and
Cooveras being as dissimilar as chalk and cheese, they nonetheless use experimental forms and
techniques that are distinctly postmodern as the present study will depict.

Vote On The Law
In the United States laws are first introduced by a single or multiple U.S. House Representatives.
Once the law is discussed and has been passed through specific committees the law will be
debated in the full House. A series of debates will be had on the law and if voted on the law will
be amended or will stay the same. Once the debate on the law is over, the House will take a vote,
if simple majority votes for the law then the law will move onto the Senate. The Senate will go
through a similar process in which the law will go through the proper committees and if released
then the Senate will debate the law. Once the Senate has finished debating the law and a final vote
is ready all that is needed to move the law along is another simple... Show more content on

When it comes to going to court you will have two different systems in which your case will be
heard, Civil case or a Criminal case. A civil case will be brought by individuals or busisnesses
who are seeking a monetary payment or a certain amount of money. A criminal case will be brought
by the government and the outcome will be probation, fine, or jail time.
When there is a disagreement between state laws and federal laws a clause in the constitution
called the Supremecy Clause will take over and inside the supremacey clause there is what s
called the doctrine of pre emption. If a state passes a law that contridicts what a federal law
states then the federal law will always prevail. There are a few examples of this happening
recently with the legalization of cannibis and gay marriage. Although a state has passed a law
stating that cannibis is legal in that particular state if the federal government wanted to come and
stop the citizens from possessing cannibis then they would be within their rights since it is against
federal law to posses cannibis (Lawson, 2017). Most environmental laws are federal laws because
most of the agencies that are tasked with protecting the environment are federal agencies.

Jean ValjeanВґs feelings toward Marius goes from hatred to love in the time that he knows him.
At first Jean was angered with Marius because he could see that Cosette and Marius were taking

lose his daughter Cosette which would be devastating for him. Jean Valjean began to realize that
Cosette was unhappy without Marius which I believe is the reason he decided to save Marius by
taking him through the sewers from when he was wounded from being in the barricades. After

they reminded him to be a good person. When Jean Valjean gets caught stealing the bishop s
silver the bishop lies and says he gave that to Jean along with the candles. The bishop told him to
use the money for good. Throughout the whole book I think this really impacted Jean in the rest

The Lathe Of Heaven Analysis
Throughout the novel, The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin, Haber argues multiple
reasons for why having the opportunity to change the world for the better is a positive resource
for the world to have. In my opinion, having the power Haber has over Orr, is too much of a
responsibility for an individual to handle alone. I disagree with haber s view on how change
through Orr s effective dreaming is an advantage to humanity because natural order doesn t lead to
entropy, the journey is just as important as the destination, and no individual should have the power
to control the masses. Haber argues that natural order leads to entropy. Ultimately, what is at stake
here is complete disorder of the world. When one has the ability to change the... Show more content

There are many ways to get to your destination. Much like a road trip, there are different ways of
getting to your destination, maybe one way you take a subway where you only see the walls of
the station and the darkness of the tunnels, while the other possible route is by car where you are
able to see the different stores, and building that finally end at your destination. Some may
believe that they would gain more from the car ride than they would have gotten from the
subway trip. Both ways would have gotten you to your destination, yet many people prefer
different types of transportation over others. An example from the book that explains the
possible routes that Haber could have taken, which could have lead to more positive results
include when he decided to take over Orr s mind through hypnotic suggestion and implying to
him to dream of peace. If he had taken a different route to get his overall result of peace such, as

able to create a world where aliens even exist. If he had taken another route to peace in the world

is better than instant war which was a result of haber s suggestion to Orr.

Mexican Immigration Issues
My first case was the Mexican Government Advises Migrants in a pamphlet in which it advises
those who want to try to cross the border illegally, some safeguards to keep in mind while
attempting to cross the border. The pamphlet was released in 2005 with the intentions of the
Mexican government to reduce the number of deaths that were occurring during the attempted
crossings. Globalization in these cases are able to change someone s life by them coming to U. S.

both countries could be affected negatively economically. The solutions would be to make the

will technically keep the company in the U.S. but would be close enough to allow workers

Infection Control In Health Care Essay
Infection control within a healthcare facility is the prevention of the spread of many
microorganisms from patient to patient, patient to a member of staff and also from the staff
member to the patient that are in there care. The World Health Organisation have defined
healthcare associated infections as an infection occurring in a patient in a hospitalor other healthcare
facility in whom the infection was not present or incubating at the time of admission. Every
healthcare facility from hospitals to general practitioners office should have a designated member
of staff or a team of people who ensure that the infection control procedures are abided by and
adhered to at all times in order to protect both staff and patients. More than 300,000 people each
year are affected by a healthcare associated infection and the cost of treatment for these patients is

In man s attempt to fulfill this need we find that we are encroaching on lands used for diverse

This loss of ecosystems equates to the loss of animal species and also plant species. This is

Sand County Almanac was written by Aldo Leopold in 1949. He is a environmentalist and forester
and has helped out with many hunting and conservation magazines. This book is one of the most
inspirational environmental books ever created in the 20th century. It contains several of Leopold s
thoughts about his interactions with nature. Many of the main concepts and foundations of modern
conservation, ecology and land ethic can be found in this book.He explains what it means to be a
person of the land and that people don t care about taking care of the land. Everyone wants what s
most convenient for them and that we can use everything. Everything is here for the purpose to

The summary of Leopold s work is what should be admired, as Leopold was a pioneer in
changing the American view of the people s place in nature. One of my favorite quotes in the
book was: the modern dogma is comfort at any cost , which is saying that to get comfort, you
have to spend money. Another favorite quote was: is education possibly a process of trading
awareness for things of lesser worth? What I got out of this is that it s saying the true definition
of education and what school is. Leopold s views on the world are very good and they show
how much we don t think about the world and the land ethic. Also, it shows how all we care
about is comfort and convenience. His view of being out with nature is also good because our
world is filled with technology and many people forget about nature and how important it is to
us. The through line that I think defines him is Earth Keeper, his views of how technology and
people hurt nature and how we need to protect it. Nature is such a big part of our lives and we
need to take care of the earth.A topic I was challenged by is the whole aspect of is almost
everything bad? Is all technology and photography bad? Photography, I feel,

Essay On The EU As A Promoter Of Preventative Criminal...
In the article, the EU as a Promoter of Preventative Criminal Justice and the Internal Security
Context, Ester Herlin Karnell argues that the European Union (EU) has drifted from the objectives
of the first implementation of the European Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice (AFSJ). The
AFSJ was originally created to promote general EU values such as human rights. However, Herlin
Karnell states that the broad objectives and focus on ensuring a high level of security have left the
AFSJ to focus solely on security while abandoning freedom and justice.
The author discusses the problems of a blurred distinction of internal and external security. As the
world has become more globalized, complex issues that cross both internal and external ... Show

Three examples are used which show that the broad language used to set up the AFSJ and its focus
on security, have blurred the division between internal and external security. In each of the
examples, money laundering, intelligence, and cybercrime, the EU itself has justified its right to
police these areas using broad definitions in regulations. The author argues that security is too broad
and any situation could be morphed to fit under that large umbrella. Further focus on security
without concern for justice and freedom (the other tenants of the AFSJ) in the author s view, has the
potential to undermine the legitimacy of the union, the system, and the stated goals of justice and
human rights (Herlin Karnell, 2016).
Upon first reading it becomes clear that Herlin Karnell is writing to an audience with a thorough
understanding of the EU and its structure. This results in undefined terms and assumptions about
the bloc as a whole. An individual without a baseline knowledge of the EU would have some
difficulty determining the meaning of some terms and concepts based solely on the writing at
hand. The context of these assumptions is given more justice when we consider that Herlin
Karnell is a professor of law in the Netherlands. An example of undefined terminology that might
bring confusion to the reader is risk based approach and pillar structure found on page 217 (Herlin
Karnell, 2016). These

Analysis Of The Film Skyfall
Directed by Sam Mendes and shot by Roger Deakins, the movie Skyfall is a spy film in the
James Bond series. It is one of the greatest movies that I have ever seen in terms of visual effects,
big action, and story plot. In this research paper, I will write about the background of the
cinematographers, the synopsis of the movie, my overall feeling towards the movie, as well as two
specific scenes.
Roger Deakins is an English cinematographer. As a successful cinematographer, he is well known
for his film work with the directors, such as Coens brothers, Sam Mendes, and Denis Villeneuve.
Being a member of both the American and British Society of Cinematographers, Roger Deakins
has received thirteen nominations for the Academy Awards for Best Cinematography. In the film
Skyfall, Roger Deakins played the role of lead cinematographer and worked along with his old crew
members.
The movie Skyfall depicts the story about James Bond investigating on an attack on the British
Secret Intelligence Services, M16. Raoul Silva, who was the former M16 agent, schemed and
planned this attack. M sent James Bond to Shanghai and Macau to find and kill Silva. During the
time when James Bond was going after Silva, Q was helping him along the way. In the end of the
movie, James Bond killed Silva by throwing a knife into the back in Scotland.
Personally speaking, I really like the movie. I am a fan of action movie, the fighting scenes in
Skyfall never fail to fascinate me. The most impressive fight scene to me was the train fight
between James Bond and Patrice. In the beginning of the scene, James Bond was going after
Patrice. After a series of gun firing, James Bond had to get close and catch Patrice. To reach the
train where Patrice was on, James Bond drove a digger and punched a hole in the train so that the
arm of the digger became a bridge to the train. The fight was absolutely intense. They fought on
the top on a moving train where it was challenging to keep balance. Every single grab, punch, kick,
push was so real that you could tell how intense the fight was. The facial expressions on their faces
were highlighted by the close up shots. The fight was impressive not just because of the physical
movements between the two actors, but

Analysis Of Madden 18
Madden 18 Review If you ever watch a NFL football game you know how the fans get loud and
crazy about their team. You see all the lights and excitement from people who love the game.
Madden 18 is the perfect game for football lovers who just can t get enough of just watching it on
Sunday. Madden came a long way from the old gameplay and graphic. To becoming one of the
best sports game that hit the market. With the new edition to madden being the all new story
mode. Fans of all ages were thrilled to purchase the game and try out the new game mode. If you
compare last year madden 17 to the new madden you would see that the game style of offense
and defense on the field did not change. The play calling and the playbooks are the similar as
well. Madden 18 bring excitement with the cutting edge graphic, smooth gameplay, restructured
franchise mode, and the new first person mode called The Longshot. Tom Brady have the honor
to grace the game with being on the cover of madden 18. Being on the cover derives with the
madden curse but Tom Brady is the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) therefore he can overcome the
curse. In addition, the graphic if you played the previous madden you can see how they improve
into eye catching graphic. The start of the game you have play as the Atlanta Falcon and try to
repeat history and go against the New England Patriot. When you look at the graphic you can
see how EA took their time to get flawless graphic. Once the game starts you can see the shine off
the players helmets when the lights hit it. Another thing that stuck out was when the referees are
on the field calling the penalties you can see the improve lifelike graphics. Also the uniforms
have jumped out at me as well. Looking at the neon green of the Seahawks jersey and the lively
orange the broncos wear on the field shows they put a lot of time and patience behind the graphic.
Furthermore, the new addition to the madden game comes with three new game styles and new
passing to get down the field. It is the first time they have three different game choices. Arcade
mode is filled with spectacular play, limited penalties, and lots of scoring. Simulation mode play

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Identity Quotes
As the examples of Gawain and the Green Knight show, their character traits depend on their
relationships. Gawain behaves like a responsible hero when it comes to Arthur, but becomes an
irresponsible character subject to scrutiny when it comes to Lady Bertilak. The Green Knight
behaves like an intimidating foe when it comes to Gawain, but becomes a hospitable charlatan
when it comes to Morgan le Fay. Pearl Poet purposely complicates these characters portrayals to
make a larger argument against identity defined by society. Why? Because identity defined by
society forces characters to live up to reputations they themselves have never established.
Additionally, this causes characters to have misinformed conceptions of self and what their
capabilities. Gawain demonstrates this in his societal classification: I am weakest of your
warriors and feeblest of wit;/ loss of my life would be least lamented./Were I not your nephew
my life would mean nothing;/to be born of your blood is my body s only claim (354 357). These

First and foremost other females in the novel are mentioned but not greeted with a presence like
Curley s wife. A girl that Lennie scares in Weed is mentioned in a past tense and most importantly
Lennie s Aunt Clara is mentioned several times where sometimes she can be perceived as the

Steinbeck has quoted in the past, Curley s wife is essentially a good and trusting person who
grew up in an atmosphere of fighting and suspicion . Her pretence of hardness is largely a sham.
It is all that she knows. She is not particularly over sexed, but has been forced to recognise that
her sexuality is the only weapon she has and the only thing for which she is noticed. However, her
weapon of sexuality backfires as it will be the death of her.
Lennie s naivety is finally seduced by her sexuality and he commits manslaughter on her as he s
unaware of his vast strength. Like Curley s wife s weapon of sexuality, Lennie s weapon is his
amazing strength. In the situation of Lennie s strength versus Curley s wife sexuality, Lennies
strength results in his demise just as Curley s wife sexuality did.
Ostensibly Curley s wife is capable of exuding a huge sexuality, but she combines it with
innocence, vulnerability and an inability to enjoy sex. The vulnerable and insecure side of
Curley s wife is what makes her good and pure. She was almost certainly a virgin before she
married Curley because she has had it preached at her so hard from her upbringing that it is the
only way that she can get a husband.
The narrators description of Curley s wife physical appearance is figuratively sexual She had full
rouged lips implies that her lips are for the purpose of kissing and possibly to perform fellatio

What Is The Theme Of Pure Equality Does More Harm Than...
This story contributes to the theme, pure equality does more harm than good to a society. For
example in the declaration of independence one of the sentences say All men are created equal .
But if all men were created equal then our society would be like Harrison s society. One of the
goals the author has is for the reader to understand that pure equality should not be craved. This
story uses small details such as handicaps to illustrate what true equality would even mean to our
country. This is why we all should appreciate our uniqueness rather than crib about our unequal
attributes. This story contributes to the theme, pure equality does more harm than good to a society.

The Difficult Foreign Policy Issues Faced by Late...
The 20th century consisted of many difficult and controversial foreign policy decisions. From
President Jimmy Carter, elected in 1977, to President Ronald Regan elected in 1981. Carter
attempted at peacemaking efforts to help bring stability to the Middle East, but faced the challenge
of the Iran Hostage Crisis in 1979. He shaped his foreign policy through integrity, morality, and
honest, to bring trust in the government to the American citizens as the previous president, Richard
Nixon made the people lost their trust in the government. Ronald Regan supported a conservative
foreign policy and greatly increased military spending, putting the United Statesin huge deficit.

This was considered his biggest foreign policy crisis, and damaged his presidency, as he was
considered to handle the situation inappropriately. Carter also made attempts to improve relations
with the Soviet Union, but instead exacerbated the situation, and Carter s commitment to human
rights divided the United States and the Soviet Union further. Matters worsened when Carter tried
to pass SALT II, limiting weapons further then set by SALT I.
Ronald Regan, elected in 1981, took a tough stand on communism, and is credited for the
downfall of communism and the Soviet Union. As the polish government cracked down on
Solidarity, an independent labor party, Regan abandoned the policy on dГ©tente, and called for
economic sanctions to force the communist backed government to end martial law. Regan s
foreign policy also called aid to Latin America, as he feared communism would take over their
weak economy. Aid was also sent to the Middle East as religious conflicts threatened the already
unsound region. In 1984 however, Regan withdrew the American forces, admitting the attempt a
failure. Terrorism also played a role in shaping Regan s policy as Terrorism continued on its rise,
raising global concern.
Regan ran for a second term and won the election of 1984. He then reshaped his foreign policy to
accommodate the changes of the Soviet Union. In 1985, a new leader emerged in the Soviet Union,

Comparison Between Different Enterprise Architecture...
4.1 Comparison of Different Enterprise Architecture Frameworks
A number of EA frameworks exist in the industry with the goal of addressing the basic challenge of
assessing, aligning, and organizing business objectives with technical requirements and strategies.
Examples include the Zachman Enterprise Framework, The Open Group Architecture Framework
(TOGAF), OMB Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA), and The Gartner Methodology (formerly
the Meta Framework).
Each framework possesses different strengths and weaknesses, which makes it difficult to find any
one existing framework that is ideal for all situations. The following chart depicts how four
Enterprise Architecture Frameworks compare.
4.2 How to Solve the Problem?
To touch lightly on value, there are multiple levels of value and it is one of the most difficult things
to measure as it contains both quantitative and qualitative aspects. But for an EA practice the
following should be considered:
Cost Avoidance How do we avoid unnecessary costs?
Cost Reduction How do we reduce our current spend?
Quality How do we improve the quality of our information?
Risk Containment How to we control and reduce organisational risks?
Stakeholder Value How do we improve our value to our stakeholders?
Resource Allocations How do we improve the view of demand for our services?
Productivity How do we increase our productivity and efficiency?
Collaboration How do we improve our engagement

Emotional Disorders Summary
There is a substantial number of individuals who suffer from emotional and behavioral disorders
and, unfortunately, they tend to be the stigmatized by others. It is amazing how many of these
individuals get judged rather than get the help that they need. This article is important because it
highlights the issues of stigmatization on individuals with certain disorders and the authors share
possible solutions that one can appreciate. The authors recounted on the issue of stigmatization on
those who suffer emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) and emphasized on spreading
awareness of the issue and provided suggestions on how it can be lessened. They admitted that little
empirical research is available on the issue and that special educators... Show more content on

Unfortunately, most of their suggestions were mainly derived from their personal view of the
situation. Most people like to rely on facts rather than personal recommendations. They stated that
they did use empirical evidence for developing these four suggestions, but were well aware that
their philosophical persuasion may not appeal to all (Kauffman Badar, 2013). For example, one of
their suggestions focused on how one must be careful with the use of labels and fluctuating labels
of the disabilities. They further admit that the use of these labels might be damaging or
misunderstood. While this may sound factual, some may consider this statement as an opinion. A
possible solution mentioned by the authors was that they believe that interpreting the term even
further can be a better way to understand the label and will likely result in a long term solution of
the problem of stigmatization. They provided examples of the problem and suggested easy and
reasonable solutions for the problem. They proved to have a strong stance on their purpose by
affirming the problem and relied on altruistic motives to solve the

Classical Music Influences Our Body s Vital Movements
Music of any genre or style that originates from a sincere and pure motivation, empowered not by
the energies of one s self, but rather by something greater, exists beyond time, culture, or history.
Classical music includes many principles that define the true meaning of the value of the classical
sounds of music. Detail of the compositional structure and other technical aspects contribute to the
most seemingly insignificant nuances. The structural integrity and balancing utilizing of tones
create a linear timeline of the composition. Classical musicaffects us not only on an emotional level
but on a neural level as well. Listening to classical music enhances the activity of genes involved in

this experimental study was to investigate the effect of The Mozart Effect: Music for Children

of Mozart was introduced into the children s environment as a sensory background for the standard
curriculum because as children grow, their social, cognitive, and physical skills can be enhanced by
their relationship with music. Many researchers have studied young children because their brains
are in the process of developing. Young children are also innocent and are incapable for fully

The study showed the effect of classical music on young children. Young children who listen to
music regularly demonstrate better development than those who do not. The study focused on the
development of kindergarten children; twenty one children were exposed to classical music in their
classroom setting, while the other twenty one children were not exposed to music at all throughout
their time in the classroom (Mattar et al., 2013). These young children range from five to six years
in age. Young children who listen to music regularly demonstrate better

Constitutional Law And The Legal System
With the media giving cost play to the term Constitutional , in reference to ongoing discussions
between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, some confusion concerning the power of
Constitutional Law and its foundation for our legal system is understandable. Constitutional law is
not confined to the founding document as the sole source of our legal system. It includes the past
rulings of the Supreme Court, as well as guidance given in the various writings of the original
founding fathers and the precedence of Common Law. Thus Constitutional Law encompasses the
entire sphere of American Jurisprudence and its continued evolution will have a resounding effect
on both the rights and liberties of the individual for generations to come. Division and Enumeration
of Powers The first three articles of the U.S. Constitution describe the division of power among the
three branches of the Federal Government. Article I, Sections 1 10 enumerate the powers and duties
of the Legislative branch. Article II, Sections 1 4 concern the powers and duties of the Executive
Branch and Article III, Sections 1 3 enumerates the duties and powers of the Legislative Branch.
Significantly, the enumerated powers are not an exhaustive list. Not all powers are delimited in
relation to the other branches nor to that of the States. Thus, the powers of each branch has been
further determined by Supreme Court rulings, under the guise of specific powers outlined in these
three Articles. Therefore,

Tay Sach s Disease
Tay Sachs disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, which means it can be passed down
parents genes and is located on a non sex chromosome. The form ,ost discussed is known as
infantile Tay Sachs disease, the symptoms of which are the deterioration of mental and physical
abilities, which starts affecting children at six months old and normally results in death by the age
of four. It is caused by a genetic defect in a single gene with one defective copy of that gene
inherited from each parent. The disease occurs when harmful quantities of gangliosides gather in
the nerve cells of the brain, eventually leading to the premature death of those cells. The condition is

Heritable traits are known to be passed from one generation to the next by DNA. This is a
molecule that encodes genetic information. DNA is a long polymere with four types of
interchangeable bases. The sequence of bases along a particular DNA molecule encodes the
genetic information. Before a cell goes through mitosis and divides, the DNA is copied, so each of
the two cells will inherit the DNA sequence. A portion of a DNA molecule that specifies a single
functional unit is called a gene. Within cells, the long strands of DNA form condensed structures
called chromosomes. The mutation for Tay Sachs Disease is located on chromosome 15. Organisms
inherit genetic material from their parents in the form of homologos chromosomes, containing a

Clusters Case Study
We introduce the beginning phase of the Cluster Hiding in Plain Sight (textit{CHiPS}) survey
with the aim to discover new galaxy clusters surrounding bright point sources. We also present
textit{Chandra} observations of a newly discovered low shift, z=0.2230, galaxy cluster with a
central quasar, PKS1353 341. After removing the quasar brightness from the cluster core, we
determine various properties of the cluster down to the center core. The average temperature of
the cluster gas is $4.3pm1.9$ keV with an increase from 5 keV at the center up to almost 10 keV.
A short central cooling time around 400 Myr points to it being a strong cool core cluster.
Comparing the cluster s properties with those of known clusters (e.g., the total mass... Show more

There are two primary modes of AGN feedback which allow the supermassive black hole at the
center of its host galaxy to affect the final stellar mass of the galaxy. The first mode is the kinetic
mode, driven by radio jets, and the second mode is the quasar mode, or radiative mode, which
relates to radiation from the accretion disk~citep{2012Fabian,2012McNamara}. The kinetic mode
has been intensively studied specifically in galaxy clusters, which require feedback to prevent
overcooling~citep{2006Rafferty,2007McNamara} via radio jets and bubbles~citep{2011Fabian}.
In contrast, due to the relative lack of central cluster galaxies in the quasar mode, the impact of
radiative feedback on clusters is poorly understood~citep{1998Silk}.
Four examples of galaxy clusters hosting central quasars are H1821+643~citep{2010Russell}, 3C
186~citep{2005Siemiginowska, 2010Siemiginowska}, IRAS 09104+4109~citep{2012Sullivan},
and the Phoenix cluster~citep{2012McDonald}. However, the small number of such objects is
insufficient to paint a complete picture of the effects of quasar mode feedback on cluster cores.
Therefore, a larger sample of these objects is necessary for our understanding of feedback,
including its duty cycle, its correlation with radiative cooling, and the distinction between the
effects of type I and type II quasars on clusters~citep{2015Kirk}.
One possible way to uncover more of these objects comes from the surprise discovery of the

How Red Effects Human Emotion and Behavior Essay
There is an influence constantly working on our minds, one that we may not have even noticed.
It follows us everywhere, and we can t escape it no matter how hard we try. It doesn t make a
sound or move, it just silently hides in plain sight effecting the way we think. Colors are one of the
most effective yet least thought about influences on our minds. How come seemingly every super
hero has a redsuit? Or why are the super villains always wearing black? Why are hospitals never
painted red, and most businesses have white, yellow, and red for their logo colors? The most
emotionally intense coloris arguably red. Even though we don t always notice it, red effects our

If one competitor is weak and another is strong, wearing red won t change that. But the closer
the levels of the two players, the more the color will have an influence on the other opponent
(Ahmed Abdul Sherif). Having red as a team color can make the other team feel anxious, cause
them to make more mistakes, and even feel guilt or hatred while in the game. Pink, a lighter
shade of red, has a slightly different effect. Though still a shade of red, it has a dramatic
difference in how it can make us feel. Pink sneaks in feeling of love, serenity, and can drain
energy. Which is why often times teams paint their opponents locker rooms pink, in hopes to
make them a little more relaxed and drained before games. Clothing A study at University of
Rochester was done on how the color red can effect how men think of women. In the first test,
they held up one of two pictures. Both were pictures of the same woman, but she was wearing
red in one, and blue in the other. In the second test, they held up one of two pictures as well. The
two pictures were exactly alike, but one had a red border around the picture, and the other had
black. On average 85% of the men said the woman with either the red border or the red shirt was
more attractive. They also said they would be willing to do more for and spend more on the
woman in red (someone). This wasn t the case when asked which woman looked more intellectual.

Similarities Between Pike And Hunting Snake
Both Hunting Snake and Pike show the theme of nature is significant in a number of ways. One
way in which this is shown is through describing the physical appearance of the pike and snake, and

dangerous that it can pose a threat on any one. Judith Wright makes it clear that nature is strong
enough to impose a threat on humans so that means that we should respect nature for what it can

Beck Manufacturing Company Capacity And Proficiency
Beck Manufacturing Company Capacity and Proficiency
The Beck Manufacturing Company currently has five operational work stations, in which they

company must determine the organization capacity inputs and outputs to satisfy their customer

volume needed within the time period allotted. To accomplish these obligation organizations will
need to procure a physical location, working capital, skilled employees, and raw material for
accomplishing the anticipated level of productions in order to meet the consumers demand. In

How Is Napoleon Bonaparte A Good Leader
Just a week ago, Napoleon Bonaparte became the new French Emperor. How does this affect
France, you may ask? Some people may feel threatened that Napoleon suddenly decided to take
so much power in the French government. My name is Jehan Martin, and I m an editor for Le
Moniteur Universel, a very well known French newspaper. Today, I ll talk about why I, along with
many others, think that Napoleon is a marvelous leader! His reign started on November 10, 1799,
when Napoleon and his supporters heroically overthrew the French Directory. In my recent visit to
Rome, I spoke to Lucien Bonaparte, Napoleon s brother. I asked him what he had to say about what
he saw during his brother s overthrowing the French Directory. It turned out, although Lucien was

Thanks to these newer, fairer taxes, I find more money in my income, and suddenly, I m able to

money, I m able to support my family again! Now, as I mentioned before, it is true that one can
feel threatened because Napoleon, as an emperor, is taking too much power for himself, and
therefore, may limit other people s rights. However, the opposite is true. For instance, in 1801,
Napoleon single handedly ended schism by restoring the Catholic church with a document called
the Concordat, and also ensured freedom of religion by giving equality to the Protestant sects and
declaring France the homeland of the Jews. In addition, Napoleon established two more
documents concerning people s freedoms, The Code Napoleon and The Code of Civil
Procedure. The Code Napoleon made sure the law was equal and assured the Revolution s legal
gains, while The Code of Civil Procedure ensured widespread mediation in the legal system and
France s laws and removed religion from France s courts. To see how these documents made the

  • 2. Essay about Travels of a T-Shirt Review Travels of a t shirt in a global economy In her book, The Travels of a T shirt in the Global Economy, Pietra Rivoli takes on the intricacies and complexities of trade and globalization through following the path of a T Shirt she purchased from Walgreens for $5.99. It is a very informative book and her writing is such that the reader is left feeling both well informed on the issues discussed, as well as entertained. Rivoli breaks up the book into 4 sections. In Part I, King Cotton, we are brought to an area in West Texas, an area that boasts to be home to much of the world s cotton. In fact, the main city, Lubbock, calls itself the cottonest city in the world (Rivoli 3). Cotton, it would seem, has a very sordid past. The worlds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it also works to undo the notions that China was stealing away all our jobs in the apparel arena, because despite the complex protectionist measures taken, America still lost lots of jobs in the textile industry. The author points out that this is because of technology, and that when it really comes down to it, China is losing their textile jobs at a rate faster than the U.S. did (142). She also goes over some of the unintended consequences of the measures such as increased material costs as a result of the increased import barrier (142). She also suggests in this section as an alternative to erecting trade barriers, to instead compensate workers of the losing industries, known as the compensation principle (151). Lastly, with the lift of the measures and quotas by 2005, there will be a new surge in Chinese goods to America, as illustrated in figure 9.1, page 167. China s percent increase after release from the quotas will measure some 900%. Finally is Part IV of the book, My T shirt Finally Encounters a Free Market. This section deals with what happens to the clothes after they are discarded, usually through donation to Goodwill or The Salvation Army. In fact, American donations to these kinds of organizations have increased so much that they have begun exporting the recycled clothing, nearly 7 billion pounds (Rivoli 176), to other countries. The recycled industry has actually created jobs in Africa as America s old clothes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Levy Law Personal Statement I became interested in pursuing legal education ever since I took grade 11 and 12 law courses in high school. Those courses illustrated to me the significance of legal professionals to society s stability and justice. To get a better understanding about the legal sphere, I enrolled in co operative education where I was assigned to Levy Law Professional Corporation for the placement. I immediately blended into the environment and started to excel at my tasks. After my co operative education placement came to conclusion, the managing partner at Levy Law Professional Corporation offered me an employment opportunity for my excellent performance. Throughout my employment at Levy Law Professional Corporation I have been exposed to various legal proceedings associated with the personal injury sphere that helped me to develop variety of skills, including critical reading abilities, writing skills, oral communication, listening abilities, research skills, time managementand task organization skills. It is without a doubt that I believe these skills to be critical in succeeding in law school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the rage that filled Laertes heart, Claudius was able to not only quell Laertes anger, but gain Laertes trust. Claudius manages to persuade Laertes to his side by appealing to Laertes ethos, logos, and pathos. When Laertes first bursts into the castle, emotions everywhere are high, however Claudius greets Laertes calmly, allowing him to speak his rage. Insecurity and anger often go hand in hand, and in his emotionally unstable state Claudius easily changes Laertes heart by crediting himself to be most sensibly in grief for [Laertes father s death] (Shakespeare 4.5.149). • 7. Analysis Of Barry s Seeing Systems More often than not, individuals in an organization display extremely predictable patterns of behavior that they need to break out of in order to achieve success. However, altering behaviors can be extremely challenging. Barry Oshry s Seeing Systems Unlocking the Mysteries of Organizational Life (Oshry, 1995) shows how organizations are composed of Tops , Middles and Bottoms and how each of these different hierarchical levels are accustomed to predictable and unhelpful behaviors leading to many issues that organizations face. The PSO organizational simulation conducted in the Powerand Politics in an Organization course was extremely helpful in experiencing the system workings of an organization, especially, the predictable and unconstructive behaviors that are exhibited by the Tops , Middles and Bottoms . The conditions and the situations in the simulation reflected real organizational experiences and integrated a variety of organizational dynamics, particularly power (and powerlessness) and structure. The PSO organization s primary objective was to make greeting cards for its clients. There were several roles within three different hierarchical levels (top, middle and bottom) that created the structure of the organization. The tops were a small group consisting of 2 executives, the middles comprised of 5 managers (Production manager, HR manager, Finance Manager, General Manager and Food dept. Manager) and the bottoms consisted of around 18 workers. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. The trails were newly cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay On Placement In A New School Here I will discuss how I felt trying to fit into a new school district and what actions were taken by the Administration. When Catholic School did not work out my parents once again found another school. I transferred to the Brecksville Broadview Heights School District. While outwardly things appeared better, they were not. A myriad of tests, followed by discussions with my parents led to yet another solution; placement in a small group setting for English, Math, and Reading. Perhaps, I was unable to learn in a regular classroom setting. Perhaps, a slower paced setting was needed. The new schoolappeared to be the perfect fit. The teachers appeared friendly. My parents were assured that the district would help me achieve my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were singled out, cut from the pack and not allowed to be a part of the elite society. We struggled through elementary and middle school. We forged our own path and maintained a small group of friends, those who were also unlucky enough to be in small group settings. In this section I will discuss how the school district made a determination about how best I would be successful based on my history in school. As school progressed, I found myself in High School. Through the IEP process, which was designed to leave no child behind , it was decided that what I needed was vocational training. I had been programmed to feel I was different, and incapable of learning, I felt I had no choice but to go along with the program. I needed to fit into society, I needed a path and one was chosen for me. My counselor thought Culinary Arts would be my forte. Perhaps being of Italian decent, he felt I would make a good chef. Once again, instead of addressing the real issue, it was determined I would be unable to succeed in college. Vocational school was easier. I was able to eliminate the problem of the language barrier, since vocational school focused on skills and not academics. I graduated, and found myself left in the real world with no goals, and no career. Finally I will discuss how these decisions affected me and what I am doing to change my path. After High School, I made a decision that I did not want to become a chef. I wanted something different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Contribution Of The Civil Rights Movement Many people are honored for their leadership, impact, legacy, achievements and hospitality. At Columbus State University, there are multiple people that should be considered for an honor. Mary Blackmon started women s athletics at CSU. Frank Brown , former president at CSU, transformed CSU from a commuter college into the massive university it is today. Thomas Whitley was the founding president at CSU. Carson McCullers was a well known author in Columbus. All these people did something great for CSU. However, I believe John Townsend, the first African American student at CSU, is the one who deserves a statue . The Civil Rights movement was an incredible time in our history to see a drastic change in society. The movement pushed laws to end racial segregation and discrimination , causing schools to be integrated. Because of that movement, it allowed John Townsend to be the first African American to enter what is now called Columbus State University. Being an African American myself, if it wasn t for him being the first African American at Columbus State University, I wouldn t be able to attend here today. In my criteria of legacy and impact, John Townsend scored highest in both categories. An impact is when a new idea comes and influence people from all around. A legacy is when something great happens and remembered for generations .Because he was the first African American student at CSU, it paved the way for a plethora of African American students to come to ... • 13. Augustan Poetic Tradition Essay Augustan Poetic Tradition I do not in fact see how poetry can survive as a category of human consciousness if it does not put poetic considerations first expressive considerations, that is, based upon its own genetic laws which spring into operation at the moment of lyric conception. Seamus Heaney, The Indefatigable Hoof taps (1988) Seamus Heaney, the 1995 Nobel laureate, is one of the most widely read and celebrated poets now writing in English. He is also one of the most traditional. Over a decade ago, Ronald Tamplin summed up Heaney s achievement and his relation to the literary tradition in a judgment that remains sound today: In many ways he is not an innovative poet. And since the poetic revolution is long over, and unrhymed, unmetered verse free verse has for the better part of the last century been the norm, one is justified in asking why a serious contemporary poet would be attracted to formal strains that lost their dominance some time around December 1910. To answer this question I propose to focus on one of my favorite Heaney poems, The Outlaw, from Door into the Dark (1969). The poem is written in that most untwentieth century of verse forms, the heroic couplet (that is, rhymed iambic pentameter couplets: aa, bb, cc, etc.). What would attract Heaney to such an uncontemporary even antiquated verse form, one that seems so inappropriate for the subject matter of his early poetry? After all, would Harold Pinter be likely to compose a neoclassical tragedy in the style of Addison s Cato? As I hope to show, the success of Heaney s poem as brilliant, I think, as the widely anthologized Digging lies in his mastery of the couplet form and particularly in his exploiting its formal resources for his own poetic purposes. To appreciate this achievement fully, the reader needs to set the poem not just in relation to the rural Irish themes of Heaney s early poetry, but also and more importantly in the ... Japan and The Influence of Imperialism Essay Japan, an isolated island located in the Pacific Ocean in East Asia, surprised the world when it first opened its doors to Western influence in 1854. While it had a strict policy about maintaining its isolation, it had no choice but to succumb to imperialism. When Commodore Matthew Perry visited, Japan realized that isolation had resulted in their inability to develop economically and militarily with the industrialized world. Thus from 1854 to 1914, the Japanese changed from being under the influence of imperialism to becoming an imperialist nation, as well as coming out of feudalism and going to into modern militarism. When orphans became members of new households they were normally accepted as just another member of the family, that is, if the new guardians were of the same social class as the parents. However, any inferiority in social class among the former parents of the orphan compared with his /her new guardians often resulted in the orphan s mistreatment and neglect. This is not surprising when considering the clear social distinction that was maintained among the different classes throughout the nineteenth century in England. Among children, these class distinctions were as obvious as they were among adults. There were often negative feelings and rivalries between children of different classes. Lower class children were usually forbidden to speak with children of higher status; however, upper class children who were seen walking without an adult escort would often get heckled by the lower class children living on the street. Some children resented these restrictions, although disobedience was seldom considered (Horn 25). This type of behavior greatly contributed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Analysis Of Vineland And Robert Coover s Dramatic... Abstract The present paper traces the origins of Thomas Pynchon s novel Vineland and Robert Coover s dramatic monologue Rip Awake to Washington Irving s short story Rip Van Winkle and attempts to analyze both adaptations. Though Irving s short story dates back to an earlier time period in the American landscape, it nonetheless forms the foundation of both Pynchon s and Coover s work. Though Irving s writing style has often been called exceedingly British sounding, his narratives are steeped in American history and the American way of life. Both Thomas Pynchonand Robert Coover on the other hand belong to the postmodern age and deal with experimental fiction in America. If Pynchon s fiction is described as encyclopedic, labyrinthine and convoluted then Coover s is termed otherworldly and surreal. Despite the fact that most critics see both Pynchon and Cooveras being as dissimilar as chalk and cheese, they nonetheless use experimental forms and techniques that are distinctly postmodern as the present study will depict. The author argues that security is too broad and any situation could be morphed to fit under that large umbrella. Further focus on security without concern for justice and freedom (the other tenants of the AFSJ) in the author s view, has the potential to undermine the legitimacy of the union, the system, and the stated goals of justice and human rights (Herlin Karnell, 2016). It is one of the greatest movies that I have ever seen in terms of visual effects, big action, and story plot. In this research paper, I will write about the background of the cinematographers, the synopsis of the movie, my overall feeling towards the movie, as well as two specific scenes. Roger Deakins is an English cinematographer. As a successful cinematographer, he is well known for his film work with the directors, such as Coens brothers, Sam Mendes, and Denis Villeneuve. Being a member of both the American and British Society of Cinematographers, Roger Deakins has received thirteen nominations for the Academy Awards for Best Cinematography. In the film Skyfall, Roger Deakins played the role of lead cinematographer and worked along with his old crew members. The movie Skyfall depicts the story about James Bond investigating on an attack on the British Secret Intelligence Services, M16. Raoul Silva, who was the former M16 agent, schemed and planned this attack. M sent James Bond to Shanghai and Macau to find and kill Silva. During the time when James Bond was going after Silva, Q was helping him along the way. In the end of the movie, James Bond killed Silva by throwing a knife into the back in Scotland. Personally speaking, I really like the movie. I am a fan of action movie, the fighting scenes in Skyfall never fail to fascinate me. The most impressive fight scene to me was the train fight between James Bond and Patrice. In the beginning of the scene, James Bond was going after Patrice. After a series of gun firing, James Bond had to get close and catch Patrice. To reach the train where Patrice was on, James Bond drove a digger and punched a hole in the train so that the arm of the digger became a bridge to the train. The fight was absolutely intense. They fought on the top on a moving train where it was challenging to keep balance. Every single grab, punch, kick, push was so real that you could tell how intense the fight was. The facial expressions on their faces were highlighted by the close up shots. The fight was impressive not just because of the physical movements between the two actors, but ... Gawain behaves like a responsible hero when it comes to Arthur, but becomes an irresponsible character subject to scrutiny when it comes to Lady Bertilak. The Green Knight behaves like an intimidating foe when it comes to Gawain, but becomes a hospitable charlatan when it comes to Morgan le Fay. Pearl Poet purposely complicates these characters portrayals to make a larger argument against identity defined by society. Why? Because identity defined by society forces characters to live up to reputations they themselves have never established. Additionally, this causes characters to have misinformed conceptions of self and what their capabilities. Gawain demonstrates this in his societal classification: I am weakest of your warriors and feeblest of wit;/ loss of my life would be least lamented./Were I not your nephew my life would mean nothing;/to be born of your blood is my body s only claim (354 357). Constitutional Law And The Legal System With the media giving cost play to the term Constitutional , in reference to ongoing discussions between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, some confusion concerning the power of Constitutional Law and its foundation for our legal system is understandable. There are two primary modes of AGN feedback which allow the supermassive black hole at the center of its host galaxy to affect the final stellar mass of the galaxy. The first mode is the kinetic mode, driven by radio jets, and the second mode is the quasar mode, or radiative mode, which relates to radiation from the accretion disk~citep{2012Fabian,2012McNamara}. The kinetic mode has been intensively studied specifically in galaxy clusters, which require feedback to prevent overcooling~citep{2006Rafferty,2007McNamara} via radio jets and bubbles~citep{2011Fabian}. In contrast, due to the relative lack of central cluster galaxies in the quasar mode, the impact of radiative feedback on clusters is poorly understood~citep{1998Silk}. Four examples of galaxy clusters hosting central quasars are H1821+643~citep{2010Russell}, 3C 186~citep{2005Siemiginowska, 2010Siemiginowska}, IRAS 09104+4109~citep{2012Sullivan}, and the Phoenix cluster~citep{2012McDonald}.
