Essay On Thiazide Diuretics
According to the Mayo Clinic there are many medication treatment options that are available to
anyone who has high blood pressure. Thiazide diuretics is one of the medication treatment option.
The side effects include dizziness and lightheadedness, blurred vision, loss of appetite, itching,
stomach upset, headache, and weakness. Thiazide diuretics works by changing the reabsorption of
sodium in the kidneys, leading to more fluid being produced from the body into the urine. They
also have an effect on the surrounding muscles in the bloodvessels, causing the muscles to relax and
allow blood to pass through more easily. If taken as directed ones HBP will balance out. Another
treatment option is Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors... Show more content on

As a conclusion, blood vessels may relax and open up which makes it easier for blood to flow
through the vessels so in this event it can reduce the blood pressure. Renin inhibitors contributes to
another medication to balance hypertension. The side effects to Renin inhibitors is dizziness,
headache, diarrhea, and stuffy nose. As a result of direct renin inhibitors which help the
regulation of blood pressure, blood vessels relax and widen, making it easier for blood to flow
through the vessels, which also lowers blood pressure. Direct renin inhibitors, angiotensin
converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) all help the
same process that narrows blood vessels, but each type of medicine blocks a different part of the
process. Calcium channel blockers is another medication treatment option. The side effects of this
medication is lightheadedness, low blood pressure, slower heart rate, drowsiness, constipation,
swelling of feet, ankles and legs, increased appetite, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Calcium channel blockers dilate the blood vessels and this makes it easier for blood to flow
through the vessels and balances blood

The Values Of The Indigenous Village Otavalo
The indigenous village Otavalo, located in Ecuador, is known for the beauty of its people and
surroundings. Situated in the highlands of the Andes mountains, it is surrounded by volcanoes,
and known for its famous market. A distinct difference from the United States is how people earn
money. Many people in the village make sweaters, blouses, and other traditional wear. They sell
their merchandise in the huge market and as a result, most people in the village are well off. They
also have more free time on their hands to be with family and friends unlike most of those who
work in the U.S.
In this small village, everybody knows everybody. OtaveleГ±os (indigenous group) have managed
to hold on to centuries old traditions without adopting a quick get dressed, here comes the tourists.
The OtaveleГ±os are proud of their culture and aren t afraid to show that. Women are seen wearing
embroidered clothing, while the norm for men are typical trousers, and a t shirt. On formal
occasions, men wear all white with a sombrero. The language that OtaveleГ±os usually use is
Spanish, but the indigenous group often uses their indigenous language Kichwa. An important
value that lies within their culture ties to their hair. In their culture, hair is sacred to them and is
typically grown out and braided. Unfortunately, social media pressures many men to cut their hair
to fit in, so when their hair grows to about twelve or thirteen inches they cut their hair off and repeat.

The Campaign For A Better Voting System
Just a few weeks ago, if you were to turn on the TV, you d be bombarded with political advertising
campaigns. During the height of a midterm election season, campaign ads are just one
demonstration of candidates pouring funds into their race with the hopes of creating name
recognition and getting our votes. Not all tactics of gaining votes are as transparent as witnessing a
negative ad campaign; some unethical ways of gaining votes are rather questionable, such as
Gerrymandering. I wanted explore the basis behind gerrymandering and understand not only how it
affects electionshere in New York, but nationwide as well; what has come from the races as we
announce the winners of these elections and possible reform for a better votingsystem in our
country.
The term Gerrymandering is an interesting one to begin with. It is simply the practice of redrawing
district lines in the attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group. This
happens when the district lines are manipulated to create a partisan advantage. The term however,
has a negative connotation attached to it for the advantage that those in power benefit from the
process and the consequential disadvantage that the minority parties, the poor population, and the
generally uninformed voters are put into with their muted votes. Our text book gives a funny
anecdotal entomology of Gerrymandering by telling us that the word was created in reaction to a
redrawing of Massachusetts Congressional

On January 20th, 2013, Barack Obama was inaugurated to his second term as president of the
United States. In his speech, he made history when he made a reference to gay rights, he said:
We the people, declare today that the most evident of truths that all of us are created equal is the
star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and
Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along
this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our
individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on earth (Obama).

This was led by Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott. These conventions also were held in places
like Worcester, Massachusetts and thousands of women and men came to support the women s
suffrage movement (Imbornoni).
There were other ways women were advancing their political status. Due to the fact that women
did not have equal rights as men, until earlier in the 20th century, some would dress as men to
achieve higher political status or to get a better job. Gay women would cross dress just because it
made them feel more comfortable. Homosexuality was not an uncommon thing in the 19th century.
It was normal for members of the same sex to show affection to each other, and even sleep in the
same bed. When people would come out as homosexual; doctors automatically presumed they were
mentally unstable and they were put in an asylum. Doctors continued to say homosexuality was an
illness until the 1970s. For about twenty years after the end of the 19th century, women,
homosexuals, and African Americans all struggled for their rights. Everything changed when the
roaring twenties emerged.
In 1920, women finally were granted the right to vote with the passing of the nineteenth
amendment. This caused women to start rebelling against ladylike things that were considered
normal behavior, and the group known as the Flappers emerged. These young women drank and
smoked excessively in public, cut their hair, and wore short dresses. Some of these Flappers

Path goal Theory In Ocean s Eleven Steven Soderbergh did a great job as a director in keeping the
audience interested throughout the whole movie time. Path goal theory of leader effectiveness can
be easily applied to the movie. The path goal theory by Robert House holds that the leader can
affect group s performance, satisfaction and motivation by offering rewards for achieving goals,
clarifying paths towards these goals and removing obstacles to performance. After being released
from prison, Danny Ocean (Clooney) finds out that Las Vegas kingpin Terry Benedict (Andy

Abortion In Alabama
Introduction:
Life is so beautiful and sweet until it ends. In America, abortions clinics are gradually closing their
doors even though the United States is of the few nations to endorse abortions. Abortions are
normally performed during the 1st trimester of a woman s pregnancy and abortion laws are varied
from state to state (Alabama Policy). Abortion is also one of the biggest and most controversial
debate about exterminating an unborn life in a mother s womb and determining whether its ethical
or unethical. In 1973, the United States Supreme Court legalized abortions throughout every state
and more women especially African Americans were enticed by the Roe v Wade court decision
(Alabama Policy Web). In this paper, I will examine the influence... Show more content on

However, during the early 1950s and 1960s, the Civil Rights Movement and other antiwar
movements inspired women to actively fight for their rights through nonviolent means (Feminist
Web). Women stopped being afraid of talking about the contentious issues of abortions, abuse, rape
and silent tears. For years, women have gone through society being denied their civil rights and they
demanded justice through acts of marching, protesting, and lobbying for reproductive rights. As a
result, some states began to supported abortion laws for women right after the birth control
movement which was led by feminist Margaret Sanger. Similarly, African American women were
getting abortions more abortions and the many women were silent about being raped or molested
by family members, friends, and unexpected strangers. The African American community is
declining in large numbers due to high abortion rates and the next highest killer is heart disease
(Black Genocide). In Alabama, the black community has declined and many people of color are

Matthew Shepard Analysis
Society s view on sexuality has played a pivotal role in the equality of the gay community. Their
existence is often ignored as there is a stigma against their lifestyle and those who choose to reveal
their identity are either attacked or shunned away. The fatality of Matthew Shepard during the late
90s proved to show that some parts of society had not yet accepted homosexuality. Whether or not
acceptance is relevant today, the play works to address the issues of sexuality through Matthew and
have the audience understand the reality of the lives tormented by hate.
Shepard s character reveals to the audience the issues of sexuality by serving as a martyr for the
gay community. Sadly his death would then only bring the attention needed to recognize anti gay
hate crimes and awaken the movement needed to replace hate with understanding and
acceptance. As an audience, we regrettably understand that when a tragic event occurs, only then
do we decide to act. Most people are unaware that they have the power to prevent hate crimes by
educating their communities about sexuality and taking away the dogmatic view that only
heterosexuality is normal. One could think of Matthew as a Christ figure, whom he is sacrificed
for the sake of change considering that his death received national attention to anti gay
sentiment. Throughout history there have been worse crimes but never received as much
attention as Laramie. To have one person represent the struggles of the gay community is not
acceptable and the audience needs to understand that there will be more crimes. The residents
Laramie declare they have a live and let live mentality as opposed to the rest of Wyoming.
Whether this mentality is relevant for the rest of the United States, it reaches out to the audience
to question whether they feel the same as those in Laramie. As a society, we choose to avoid
people who don t fit our agenda and as long as they don t come in contact with us, we are ok with
them. This type of mentality is more of a silent treatment. The indifference can be shown by
characters such as Sherry Johnson, wife of a police officer. While she does express sympathy for
Matthew Shepard, she also feels that he is granted a special privilege for

Jean Miller Essentialism In Relationships
When miller uses the term essentialist in her argument, I believe she means that it is universally
valid or generally accepted that boys and girls offer different things when it comes to friendship
(S C, 145). She also appears to be expressing that these males and females characteristics
contribute to their relationships. In my opinion, I do not think Miller is accurate in the way she
characterises boys, girls, men and women and their differences. I believe men and women offer
different things when it comes to friendship, however I consider these differences a result of social
construction rather than essentialism. I believe the way females and males act in their personal
relationships has been largely influenced by societal norms, advertising,... Show more content on

When considering the quote Men and women can t be friends; sex always gets in the way. (S C,
148), I absolutely disagree with the statement. I have had many male friends, who I enjoy spending
time with but would never consider having a romantic relationship with. I believe friendship is a
companionship involving mutual trust, support and fairness between two or more people
regardless of their gender. I believe this idea persist because some individuals may have never
experienced an opposite sex friendship, therefore they do not understand how a male and female
can be friends without sexual intentions. I also believe this idea may persist because of individuals
negative past experiences trying to be friends with someone of the opposite sex but they wanted
more than friendship. I believe this experience may negatively impact someone s perception of
opposite sex friendships because they may believe it is inevitable that someone will eventually
develop feelings. However, while things of this nature may occur, there are many opposite sex
friendships that have only friendship intentions, therefore the idea should not be

The Perfect Beauty in PetrarchВґs Gli Ocohi Oi ChВґlo...
The Perfect Beauty
A certain individual may establish beauty merely by what is viewed upon the naked eye, yet
someone else can measure beauty by using more fundamental qualities, such as good morals and
ideas, which lie beneath one s surface. This is a topic of discussion that leaves many to ask the
question, what is the true meaning of beauty? There are two prominent sonnets, which relate to the
principles of true beauty; Petrarch s Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai and Sonnet 130 by William
Shakespeare. These sonnets do nothing less, but use imagery to define the bountiful amount of
beauty and how much love they possess for an individual. Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai, represents
the true beauty love has by its use of excessive descriptions and tone. Sonnet 130 proves that
beauty is not measured by idealistic, regal measures, but rather proposes beauty is average and
nothing out of the ordinary. For each sonnet effectively describes its interpretations on the joys
of beauty and love. Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai praises the artificial traits of beauty and love.
Petrarch often put women on pedestals and describes them with hyperbolic language. His sonnet,
Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai, is no exception to his trend. The speaker starts off the sonnet by
recounting the feeling he gets when around his love. The speaker says when their eyes meet his
passionate rapture rose (1). He also illustrates her having rays flashing from a smiling angels
glance (6), which he is for

The East Facade Of The Louvre
Perrault still relied a lot antiquity rule to do his reference, even if Perrault mentions that he created
the new taste of architectural element for French. He accepted that Vitruvius theory and order still
an important part of his theory. Perrault mentions that, I also contend that whatever innovations I
introduce are intended not so much to correct what is ancient as to return it to its original
perfection. I do this not on my own authority, following only my own insight, but always in
reference to some example taken from ancient works or from reputable writers. The East Facade of
the Louvre is hard to define its style because of Perrault s theory and Le vau s influence. A
historian, Blunt, argues that the facade shows the Baroqueand Classical style at the same time. He
wrote, The Colonnade has no exact parallel in French architecture, but it is the first example in
this art of the style of Louis XIV. In certain respects it is Baroque: the scale of the Order, the depth
given by the free standing colonnade, the variety of rhythm due to the coupling of the columns. In
other ways it is more strictly classical than earlier French work: the clear and simple definition of
the masses, the straight line of the front (in contrast to the curves of most of the Italian designs and
even Le Vau s first scheme), the severe and almost unbroken entablatures, and the purity of detail in
the Order and the mouldings.

Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom
While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind
Corrie ten Boom s words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first
was when she had said Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry
it until you are able. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she
had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching
and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she
had said His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This
statement refers to Corrie s realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was
her protection or hiding place through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal
losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the
most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie
ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that
could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that
managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive. Betsie s positivity, forgiveness and
faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and character in this particular novel.

The Battle Of Yorktown By William Faulkner
Battle of Yorktown
A Striking Start
You are galloping full speed at full speed like it is the last day of your life, you ride into the city
of Yorktown fiercely, then your rider wants you to go faster, you are galloping faster than you
have ever run, as fast as a speeding bullet. The wind is slapping your face as hard as a hammer,
you finally run into the sea of smoke, muskets, and bayonets. The person riding you violently
thrusts his mighty sword, and swiftly fires his French pistol. Cannonballs fly over you like soaring
hawks destroying the fortifications that may have taken years to build, you are a proud horse in
The American Revolutionary War, and you will never stop galloping for the Patriots even if it kills
you.

Not True Love in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Essay
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet popularly considered by many to be the quintessential love story
of all time is a play that we are all familiar with in one way or another. Whether it be through the
plethora of portrayals, adaptations and performances that exist or through your own reading of the
play, chances are you have been acquainted with this tale of tragic loveat some point in your life.
Through this universal familiarity an odd occurrence can be noted, one of almost canonical
reverence for the themes commonly believed to be central to the plot. The most widely believed

However, he is the one who seems to have the faulty reasoning and who relies on fancy words to
convey his otherwise weak emotions. It is the attention he receives that causes me to scrutinize him
with a keener eye; after all, we must hold those we revere most highly accountable for their actions
. . .
From the moment we first hear about Romeo, it is in the context of his suffering at the hands of
love. Romeo s father, Montague, perplexed by his son s behavior states that, Many a morning
hath he there been seen, / With tears augmenting the fresh morning s dew, / Adding to clouds
more clouds with his deep sighs (1.1.124 26). While this may be the first time we encounter
Romeo s melancholy humour, it certainly isn t the last. In fact, one of the primary sources of
our infatuation with Romeo rests in our sympathy for him. From the very start this poor boy is
plagued by affections for girls that fate, it seems, will not let him be with. At first, it s Rosaline,
a girl who has sworn that she will still live chaste (1.1.210), a vow that sets Romeo reeling and
complaining because from love s weak childish bow she lives unharmed (1.1.204). His depression
over Rosaline is enough to draw the attention of his father, Montague, who has observed that
Romeo shuts himself up in his room all day in order to wallow in the darkness. These are the
actions of someone who is undeniably quite

Dating Vs Technology
In the world of today, two words that constantly come up are change and improvement. These two

technology. And we are always looking for ways to change it to improve something in our lives.
We are always striving to make things faster, easier, more efficient. But what you need to ask

my life any easier? These are questions I asked as I strove to find out why, in a world centered

Aesthetics Of Kant And Hegel

The Aesthetics of Kant and Hegel
The theories of art put forward by Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) and G.W.F. Hegel (1770 1831)
have long been seen to represent two rival positions which nonetheless arise from a distinctive
tradition of German philosophy. In both cases, a concern with problems of art and beauty represents
only one part of their respective philosophical systems. It is this larger, theoretical framework which
lends both theories their characteristic breadth and range of interest. Whilst Kant s name has
principally been associated with the development of a formalist aesthetics, Hegel is seen to represent

Central to his view of aesthetic judgment is the concept of purposiveness. This refers to the fact
that we must assume a certain coherence and connection among the appearances of the external
world or nature so that we can reflect coherently upon it. We presuppose a harmony between nature
and our cognitive powers, as if they were suited or adapted to each other. It is this presumed
harmony, which Kant calls purposiveness, which gives us pleasure. According to Kant, when we
make an aesthetic judgment, we make a judgment about the form of an object (not its content as
given through our senses); the object s form gives rise to pleasure because it exhibits a harmony
with our cognitive powers, namely our understanding and imagination. We then call the object
beautiful and our ability to judge the object by such a pleasure is taste . An aesthetic judgment is
not a judgment of cognition; it does not refer to the object and gives us no knowledge of it. It
refers only to the perceiving subject, to our self and its feeling of pleasure or displeasure. It tells
us only about how we, as subjects, are affected by our mental representation of the

Unconditional Love in E.B. White s Charlotte s Web
In fantasy like Charlotte s Web, the animals are true to their natures, yet similar to people. They
think and worry and love and hurt and laugh and needle one another as people do. In Charlotte s
Web, human truths of friendship and love are revealed. I strongly agree with the statement that
Charlotte is truly the ideal role model of unconditional love and will support my stand by
highlighting
Charlotte s selfless acts, contrasting her with Templeton, showing why he is the complete opposite
of her, comparing her with other models of love such as Fern, Mrs. Arable and the goose and lastly,
proving that
Wilbur s change is a result of her unconditional love.

It is, essentially, her actions that prove to be a testament for her unconditional love.

Charlotte is driven to save him, ...I am not going to let you die,

Essay On Showboat
The musical Showboat acted as hammer in 1927 because of its ability to revolutionize musical
theatre by presenting topics such as racism, interracial romance, and marital heartbreak as well as
changing the course of musical theatre. The topic of interracial marriage was a topic hit early on
in the musical. The star actress on the show boat named Julie La Verne was discovered to be

was brought up to the sheriff, he felt obligated to confront Julie and Steve about their crime of

One Punch Man
Being a comic book and manga reader, I always fell in love with the plot, read the words and
skim through the drawings without stopping to think about the symbolism of the drawings on
the pages. While reading McCloud s Understanding Comics and observing Molly Bang s
theories on shapes and lines, my mind has opened a broader understanding of what is right in
front of me, when I m reading a manga or a comic book. To begin with, in chapter four, McCloud
talks about how some artists use lines, multiple images or streaking to show motion. In the manga
One Punch Man the artist Yusuke Murata shows Saitama s movement for the serious hop attack
with streaking and multiple images, to show the different ways Saitama is approaching his
opponent. Also, you can imply Molly Bang s theory on diagonal shapes that show tension or
motion in which Yusuke uses both (Look at picture #1). You can see how under Saitama there are
also pointy edges that go diagonally so one can feel threatened as Molly Bang said. Also you can
clearly see the many silhouettes of Saitama to show his special attack much clearer.
Second, Molly Bang and Scott McCloud both touch base with color. How the darker color is
associated with evil like in this picture (Look at picture #2). You can see the dark circles under his
eyes and how the gang ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Speech On Racism In Sports
Without a doubt, we look at athletes today and from the past as if they are larger than life
individuals. They show their personality through talent no matter what they play; some are better
than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a
different voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events
because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities, they say they do not go through the
same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue
of racism. Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes
speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on sports such as Germany hosting the
olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden
discrimination that happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they
believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that because they are
professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Whether it be refusing to meet
with the president, speaking out on racial injustices, or not standing for the national anthem, athletes
have a strong voice in the fight against discrimination and other traumatic events. The fight for
equality in sports and throughout America is a process that includes multiple organizations, the
reaction of authority figures, and

Graphic Designers Work And The Work Of A Web Designer
Throughout the vast selection of jobs within the Media and ICT sector the two that are vastly
known and that I shall look into are a Graphic Designers work and the work of a web designer.
Both jobs have similarities but yet both stretch out two different ways both having their own set of
skills needed and having their different methods of working and planning.
[P1]
Graphic Design
The Internet describes the role of a graphic designer as a designer in the process of visual
communication and problem solving with typography, space, image and color[1]. Through the use
of both paper work (Drawing) to computer work with apps such as Photoshop, design etc.
There are many responsibilities within the job of a graphic designer, such as a graphic designer
must deliver the work to the highest standards of his/her ability, they have a role to present work
that is new not just plagiarised from earlier artists . Most Graphic Designers will plan on paper
or on and electric tablet before going straight to the computer this is done to show clients what to
expect and is easier to change for them. Graphic Designers also have a responsibility if not self
employed to communicate more with marketing and other parts of the work place to show what s
need done after, such as producing. Graphic design is just another link in a chain to help create a
client s product online or an real product.

Was John Brown Considered A Revolutionary
Why would John Brown be considered a revolutionary if he did so many bad things to try to end
slavery? John Brown was an abolitionist during the 1800 s. The reason why John Brown became
an abolitionist was because when he was younger he witnessed a slave get harshly beaten and
John did not like it. Brown also did not like the idea of people owning slaves. John Brownthought
that if he could kill the slave owners, and free the slaves, that he could end slav ery. John Brown
died after he and a group of seventeen whites and five blacks attacked Harper s Ferry, on October

The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster
The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Case 1: Case study of Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster
Table of Contents Abstract 4 Overview 5 Background Information 5 Problem Statement 6 Initial
Investigation 6 Detailed Analysis 6 Recommendation 10 References 11 Abstract In this paper
we will study the Challenger space shuttle disaster in detail. Our focus will be on different
aspects of this event such as the many purposes which were served by the Challenger space
shuttle; we will also specifically focus on the media s role regarding this event and see how it
affected the entire situation. Overview When a disastrous event like the Challenger (which was
also known as STS 51L) shuttle explosion occurs, the reaction from the media greatly affects the
public opinion. In any disaster event the public support for the mission is greatly affected and
this factor can greatly jeopardize any further missions since the public has a huge amount of
interest where their funding goes. It is also seen that the media skew its reports just for the sake
of higher ratings. Background Information The space shuttle challenger disaster took place on
January 28, 1986. It was a space launch mission conducted by NASA which failed and exploded
in air just 73 seconds after liftoff. The seven member crew in the space died. It is said that they did
not die on the initial explosion but later after the Challenger landed. The tragedy and its
consequences attracted wide media attention

presented by Michael Anthony, Green Days by The River, originally published in 1967 as an
adolescent boy aged 15 who lives in Mayaro. Shellie, also referred to as Shell, is caught in the
developmental process as he works through the emotional and biological changes that comes with
transitioning from childhood to adulthood. In the story, this transition is paralleled to the changes
in his environment that he experiences as his family, due to the illness of his father, moves from
Pierre Hill which is described as the bush in the novel to an inland village in Mayaro. During this
period, Shell experiences an array of changes associated with transitioning from a boy to a man. He

he discovers his self system; and, some of the trajectories and transition points which he
experiences. If we were to apply a theory to understand exactly where Shell was in his
developmental process, Eric Erikson Psychosocial Stages of Development, particularly the fifth
stage of development, Identity vs Role Confusion may be most applicable. This stage focuses on
individuals ages 12 18; and speaks about the individual searching for a sense of self and personal
identity as they explore their value and belief system, (Schaffer, 2006). Similar to what we have
read about Shell s journey; Erikson goes on to explain that the individual becomes independent and

The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values
From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape
who you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most
frequently and hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe
the adults around us. Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are
challenged. Moreover, few people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of
someone else. Most people are not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to
congregate with other people who share and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and
even presented with empirical facts that run counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our
minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive
bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of an ingrained notion and take a counter
stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not work effectively to change people s
minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with the irrefutable facts. An example
would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men are also violent pedophiles,
despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them that this is not the case
is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a friendly gay neighbor
who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never

The Scottish And Scottish Government
Modern Scottish politics was established in 1999 , then called the Scottish Executive rather than the
Scottish Government. The current Scottish Government has control over a certain number of
devolved matters whilst Westminster in England retains control of decisions affecting the whole of
the United Kingdom. This modern day form of Scottish politics was very much influenced by the
events and state of a post war Britain in which many people across Scotlandwanted change and
more independence from the London centric Westminster. A number of the aspects of the modern
Scottish devolved political system intentionally vary from certain ones of Westminster in an effort
to be more representative of the Scottish people and will be analysed and evaluated in this essay.
There are many key developments in the process which led to the establishment of a devolved
Scottish Government. In the 1960s in Scotland constitutional issues noticeable and important to
many people and following the 1979 Referendum in which the Yes campaign lost due to the
Cunninghame amendment that required at least forty percent of the electorate to vote yes , the
Scottish National Party (SNP) took nearly a decade to recover . In the 1980s the case for Scottish
devolution was based on the idea that Home Rule would be able to solve the democratic deficit
and also prevent the Westminster government from imposing itself and decisions on Scotland . It
was also seen as way of Scotland rejecting and going against

Cannibalism, The Act Of Ingestion Of Human Flesh By Humans
Cannibalism, or anthropophagy, is the act of ingestion of human flesh by humans. the idea of
people eating other parts of other people is something that wherever and whenever humans have
conformed to their environment and had formed societies. Cannibalism isn t fake, you may see it in
books, on television shows and movies but the fact is that you can see this concept or this way of
life throughout history. The concept of cannibalism, its ethical encumbrances, and its cultural
expression in history and myth are unquestionably universal. To be human is to think about the
possibility of cannibalism. Anthropophagy is hard wired into the architecture of human
imagination. This human imagination is usually conceptualized through common folklore and
common stories and the cannibalistic image is expressed by Cannibal giants, ogres, bogies, and
goblins. The idea of cannibalism may strike people as something that would rarely happen and you

Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare
It is the very error of the moon;
She comes more nearer earth than she was wont,
And makes men mad. (Othello 5.2.112 14)
The moon is often seen in literature as an allegory for love, virtue, and chastity. In Shakespeare s
comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these
comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the
chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition
for her bounty. The moon as allegory for the lunacy of romance helps us understand Shakespeare s
view of romance. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The finest example can be found in Othello. Iago convinces Othello that Othello is being cuckolded
by his wife, after which Othello questions him, referring to his wife as the moon:
Why, why is this?
Think st thou I ld make a lie of jealousy,
To follow still the changes of the moon
With fresh suspicions? No; to be once in doubt
Is once to be resolved . . . (3.3.190)
The moon/Desdemona is seen as at once chaste and inclined to change. Later, Othello accuses
Desdemona of infidelity despite her protesting innocence. Again, he compares her infidelity with
the moon: What committed!/ Heaven stops the nose at it and the moon winks . . . (4.2.74). The
moon, once chaste, is now flirting. Similarly, Othello believes that Desdemona, once chaste, is
cuckolding him. These two examples show the multiple allegories of the moon that, similarly, exist
in women.
The moon also symbolizes the changeability of Fortune. What does the Fortune have to do with the
moon? Shakespeare considered both of them to be much the same. Both have a cyclical nature
(hence the term, Wheel of Fortune ): the moon waxes and wanes just like Fortune waxes and
wanes. John Hankins noted that the traditional Latin scholarship that Shakespeare may have
studied (such as Macrobius who studied the relationship of the celestial bodies to mortals on earth)
would have lead to his understanding

The Problem Of Induction, Inductive Reasoning, And Weather
The problem of induction, inductive reasoning, and weather or not nature is uniform, are questions
that have been raised by many a great philosopher. Induction, and Inductive reasoning is when you
make observations of past events and occurrences and base your knowledge on those observations.
From these observations you make generalizations, the problem with inductive reasoningand the
problem with induction is that, your observations generalize and assume, sometimes too much,
sometimes on a very limited number of observations which is not necessarily enough to assume
that you are in fact right in knowing about a certain thing. Imagine all the swans you had ever
seen or heard about were white, and you had never seen or heard of a black swan before. You
would then assume and think that there were only such a thing as white swans, and rightly so, but
does this mean there is no such thing as a black swan? No, it just means there has not ever been a
black swan that you have seen or heard of, but because of inductive reasoning, and your own
observations you could make a false claim. The claim that there are only white swans. Inductive
reasoning also assumes that because a sequence of events has happened in the past they will again
in the future, this is called the uniformity of nature, The sun is an example of this, it rises every
day and sets every night, and it has done so since the beginning of time. Therefore, due to the sun
rising and setting in the past, due to inductive

Fashion In The 1920 s
Fashion. It can be interpreted in many different ways; fashion is a form of art, self expression,
and a way of defining someone. For many years, fashion has developed and changed drastically
to appeal to flocking consumers. Who knew that the clothing one wore could have so much
value? In many cases, women played a big role, from time periods before the 1800 s till now.
Previously, women had been considered only housewives, catering to needs of their children,
cleaning, and the overall maintenance of their homes. They were not able to pursue jobs outside

in fashionas women gain more rights and step out of their boundaries. In a sense, women became
bold and fearless. The 1920 s along with the 1960 s are also periods that emphasize the changes in
fashion due to major societal changes. One will begin to notice monumental movements that form

The hippie movement later in the decade also exerted a strong influence on ladies clothing styles,
including bell bottom jeans, tie dye, and batik fabrics, as well as paisley prints. Hippies were
spontaneous, passionate and rebellious. Instead of conforming to the normal standards of living,
hippies dressed in bright colors, did drugs, and promoted freedom. They explored drugs such as
marijuana and LSD to find different forms of consciousness. Their vocal opposition to the United
States involvement in the Vietnam War (1955 1975) and the increasingly rocky road to shared
civil rights among all Americans led to this new, alternative form of activism. (Brief History of
Hippie culture). They felt like they needed to express themselves in a way so people knew their
opinions on the United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Again, there was emphasis on floral

Colloids For Research Paper
Solutions, colloids, and suspensions are all types of mixtures. Suspensions and colloids are
classified as heterogeneous mixtures and solutions are classified as the homogeneous mixture.
Solutions are single atoms that never settle and are transparent which also means clear. Colloids are
aggregates of atoms, molecules, or ions, they can settle and they are transparent with a Tyndall
effect. Suspensions are clumps of particles such as sand and their movement is by gravity with the
translucent effect. An example of a solutionis sugar dissolving in water because the solute the sugar

An example of a nonelectrolyte is C6H12O6 glucose because it can not dissociate into ions
whenever it is in an aqueous solution.
Solubility is the quantity of a particular substance solid, liquid, or gas solute that can dissolve in
a particular solvent, yielding a saturated solution(biology online). The solubility of solids
increases with the temperature. The increasing of the temperature allows the solvent molecules
to easily detach the solute molecules that are held by intermolecular attractions. The solubility of
gases is a little more complicated because as the temperature increase the kinetic energy also
increases which causes more motion of the molecules to move more freely. There re two ways for
material to be dissolved the first way is dipole to dipole which is molecular and the second way is
dipole to ion which is ionic.

Comparing The Adaptations For Nitrogenous Excretion Across...
Report Comparing the Adaptations Relating to Nitrogenous Excretion across Three Taxonomic
Groups
All organisms produce waste nitrogen products as part of their metabolism. Nitrogen is obtained
from the diet in the form of protein and nucleic acids. When a protein is ingested, the tertiary and
secondary structures of the protein are denatured. The peptide bonds are also broken, separating the
protein into individual amino acids, the basic structure of which is displayed in Fig. 1.1.
Amino acids are used to synthesise variety of functional compounds, including nucleic acids and
enzymes. However, when amino acids are obtained in the diet in excess of those needed for
synthesis of functional nitrogenous compounds, they are either catabolised as energy sources or
used as sources of carbon chains for synthesis of non nitrogenous storage compounds. When amino
acids are used as energy sources or for the synthesis of non nitrogenous compounds, the nitrogenous
component of the acid must first be removed. The amino group, NHв‚‚, is the nitrogenous
component of protein and is removed from the amino acid by a catabolic process called
deamination. This process removes the amino group from the amino acid and converts it to ammonia
(NHв‚ѓ).
The ammonia is highly toxic and must either be excreted quickly or converted to a less toxic waste
product, such as urea or uric acid, and then excreted. Organisms that excrete nitrogen as ammonia
(Fig. 1.2) are ammonotelic. Organisms that convert

Commuting vs Dorming
Chelsea Clough
Professor Dingle
English
13 December 2012
Commuting vs. Dorming The hardest decision a student has to make during their senior year of
high school is which school to attend and whether to live on campus or commute. There are both
advantages and disadvantages to both scenarios. The entire college experience is a learning trip
and it is oftentimes a young adults first step towards independence. Living on campus is an
adjustment and is a huge eye opener to the real world. The college dorm life is considered to be
part of the full college experience, but the costs of living in a residence hall can persuade students
to remain home while they are in college in order to avoid housing fees. The biggest advantage of ...

Since fellow students always surround you, it s a lot easier to make friends and develop lasting
relationships. Even if you don t have a roommate, you re sure to meet students who live in your
dorm hall. Dorming at school is a great experience that you will never forget. For the rest of your
life you can speak of your time where you were a teenager that moved away from home to try
something new. The people you meet and the times you will share with them will be with you
forever. There are many advantages for living on campus, however, there also many
disadvantages too. Constant companionship in your living space can sometimes be a
disadvantage, especially in situations when you want privacy. If you are accustomed to living
in your own room in your parents house and suddenly have to share a room with others, this can
take some adjustment time (Bartkowski1). Noise also is huge factor to the disadvantages of
living on campus. Dorms can be a noisy place, considering there are many students living there
who gather in dorm rooms or the lounge. However, if you need some quiet time to study or do
homework, you can always go to the library. Dorming can also be very overwhelming at first.
You can easily be distracted by parties or hanging out in the lounge or a friends dorm. Also it
makes it more susceptible to leave everything for last minute and realize that you have no time to

Symptoms And Treatment Of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
PSYCHOSIS IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: A REVIEW
Abstract
Key words Lupus, Psychosis, SLE, NP SLE, steroids, reversible
INTRODUCTION
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disease of
multifactorial etiology that can affect many organs and systems (Sato, 2002).
The studies show a higher prevalence in women (approximately 90% of cases), especially during
childbearing years, i.e. between 15 and 45 years of age; more common in women of black
ethnicity than in Caucasian ones at a ratio of 3:1 , but it can occur in all ethnic groups and
geographic regions (BonfГЎ, 2011).
The central nervous system is often affected by this disease, causing neurological and/or psychiatric
symptoms. Psychiatric syndromes in patients with SLE include a variety of psychiatric findings
causing chronic disabilities (Jarpa, 2011).
SLE may cause a wide range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms including those due to
central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system and different psychiatric syndromes. In 1999, the
ACR developed a standardized nomenclature system for the NP syndromes of SLE for the purposes
of classification and reporting (The American College of Rheumatology, 1997; 1999). It
distinguishes three subsets of syndromes: psychiatric disorders, cognitive deficits and acute
confusional states; neurological syndromes of the CNS and neurological syndromes of the
peripheral nervous system (The American College of Rheumatology, 1997; 1999). Anxiety,

Thiazide diuretics is one of the medication treatment option. The side effects include dizziness and lightheadedness, blurred vision, loss of appetite, itching, stomach upset, headache, and weakness. Thiazide diuretics works by changing the reabsorption of sodium in the kidneys, leading to more fluid being produced from the body into the urine. They also have an effect on the surrounding muscles in the bloodvessels, causing the muscles to relax and allow blood to pass through more easily. If taken as directed ones HBP will balance out. As a conclusion, blood vessels may relax and open up which makes it easier for blood to flow through the vessels so in this event it can reduce the blood pressure. Renin inhibitors contributes to another medication to balance hypertension. The side effects to Renin inhibitors is dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and stuffy nose. As a result of direct renin inhibitors which help the regulation of blood pressure, blood vessels relax and widen, making it easier for blood to flow through the vessels, which also lowers blood pressure. Direct renin inhibitors, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) all help the same process that narrows blood vessels, but each type of medicine blocks a different part of the process. • 3. The Values Of The Indigenous Village Otavalo The indigenous village Otavalo, located in Ecuador, is known for the beauty of its people and surroundings. Situated in the highlands of the Andes mountains, it is surrounded by volcanoes, and known for its famous market. A distinct difference from the United States is how people earn money. Many people in the village make sweaters, blouses, and other traditional wear. They sell their merchandise in the huge market and as a result, most people in the village are well off. They also have more free time on their hands to be with family and friends unlike most of those who work in the U.S. In this small village, everybody knows everybody. OtaveleГ±os (indigenous group) have managed to hold on to centuries old traditions without adopting a quick get dressed, here comes the tourists. The OtaveleГ±os are proud of their culture and aren t afraid to show that. Women are seen wearing embroidered clothing, while the norm for men are typical trousers, and a t shirt. On formal occasions, men wear all white with a sombrero. The language that OtaveleГ±os usually use is Spanish, but the indigenous group often uses their indigenous language Kichwa. An important value that lies within their culture ties to their hair. In their culture, hair is sacred to them and is typically grown out and braided. Unfortunately, social media pressures many men to cut their hair to fit in, so when their hair grows to about twelve or thirteen inches they cut their hair off and repeat. Most people in the ... • 4. The Campaign For A Better Voting System Just a few weeks ago, if you were to turn on the TV, you d be bombarded with political advertising campaigns. During the height of a midterm election season, campaign ads are just one demonstration of candidates pouring funds into their race with the hopes of creating name recognition and getting our votes. Not all tactics of gaining votes are as transparent as witnessing a negative ad campaign; some unethical ways of gaining votes are rather questionable, such as Gerrymandering. I wanted explore the basis behind gerrymandering and understand not only how it affects electionshere in New York, but nationwide as well; what has come from the races as we announce the winners of these elections and possible reform for a better votingsystem in our country. The term Gerrymandering is an interesting one to begin with. It is simply the practice of redrawing district lines in the attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group. This happens when the district lines are manipulated to create a partisan advantage. The term however, has a negative connotation attached to it for the advantage that those in power benefit from the process and the consequential disadvantage that the minority parties, the poor population, and the generally uninformed voters are put into with their muted votes. Our text book gives a funny anecdotal entomology of Gerrymandering by telling us that the word was created in reaction to a redrawing of Massachusetts Congressional ... These conventions also were held in places like Worcester, Massachusetts and thousands of women and men came to support the women s suffrage movement (Imbornoni). There were other ways women were advancing their political status. Due to the fact that women did not have equal rights as men, until earlier in the 20th century, some would dress as men to achieve higher political status or to get a better job. Gay women would cross dress just because it made them feel more comfortable. Homosexuality was not an uncommon thing in the 19th century. It was normal for members of the same sex to show affection to each other, and even sleep in the same bed. When people would come out as homosexual; doctors automatically presumed they were mentally unstable and they were put in an asylum. Doctors continued to say homosexuality was an illness until the 1970s. For about twenty years after the end of the 19th century, women, homosexuals, and African Americans all struggled for their rights. Everything changed when the roaring twenties emerged. In 1920, women finally were granted the right to vote with the passing of the nineteenth amendment. This caused women to start rebelling against ladylike things that were considered normal behavior, and the group known as the Flappers emerged. These young women drank and smoked excessively in public, cut their hair, and wore short dresses. Some of these Flappers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abortion is also one of the biggest and most controversial debate about exterminating an unborn life in a mother s womb and determining whether its ethical or unethical. For years, women have gone through society being denied their civil rights and they demanded justice through acts of marching, protesting, and lobbying for reproductive rights. • 10. Matthew Shepard Analysis Society s view on sexuality has played a pivotal role in the equality of the gay community. Their existence is often ignored as there is a stigma against their lifestyle and those who choose to reveal their identity are either attacked or shunned away. The fatality of Matthew Shepard during the late 90s proved to show that some parts of society had not yet accepted homosexuality. Whether or not acceptance is relevant today, the play works to address the issues of sexuality through Matthew and have the audience understand the reality of the lives tormented by hate. Shepard s character reveals to the audience the issues of sexuality by serving as a martyr for the gay community. Sadly his death would then only bring the attention needed to recognize anti gay hate crimes and awaken the movement needed to replace hate with understanding and acceptance. As an audience, we regrettably understand that when a tragic event occurs, only then do we decide to act. Most people are unaware that they have the power to prevent hate crimes by educating their communities about sexuality and taking away the dogmatic view that only heterosexuality is normal. One could think of Matthew as a Christ figure, whom he is sacrificed for the sake of change considering that his death received national attention to anti gay sentiment. Throughout history there have been worse crimes but never received as much attention as Laramie. To have one person represent the struggles of the gay community is not acceptable and the audience needs to understand that there will be more crimes. The residents Laramie declare they have a live and let live mentality as opposed to the rest of Wyoming. Whether this mentality is relevant for the rest of the United States, it reaches out to the audience to question whether they feel the same as those in Laramie. As a society, we choose to avoid people who don t fit our agenda and as long as they don t come in contact with us, we are ok with them. This type of mentality is more of a silent treatment. The indifference can be shown by characters such as Sherry Johnson, wife of a police officer. While she does express sympathy for Matthew Shepard, she also feels that he is granted a special privilege for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Jean Miller Essentialism In Relationships When miller uses the term essentialist in her argument, I believe she means that it is universally valid or generally accepted that boys and girls offer different things when it comes to friendship (S C, 145). She also appears to be expressing that these males and females characteristics contribute to their relationships. In my opinion, I do not think Miller is accurate in the way she characterises boys, girls, men and women and their differences. I believe men and women offer different things when it comes to friendship, however I consider these differences a result of social construction rather than essentialism. I believe the way females and males act in their personal relationships has been largely influenced by societal norms, advertising,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When considering the quote Men and women can t be friends; sex always gets in the way. (S C, 148), I absolutely disagree with the statement. I have had many male friends, who I enjoy spending time with but would never consider having a romantic relationship with. I believe friendship is a companionship involving mutual trust, support and fairness between two or more people regardless of their gender. I believe this idea persist because some individuals may have never experienced an opposite sex friendship, therefore they do not understand how a male and female can be friends without sexual intentions. I also believe this idea may persist because of individuals negative past experiences trying to be friends with someone of the opposite sex but they wanted more than friendship. • 12. The Perfect Beauty in PetrarchВґs Gli Ocohi Oi ChВґlo... The Perfect Beauty A certain individual may establish beauty merely by what is viewed upon the naked eye, yet someone else can measure beauty by using more fundamental qualities, such as good morals and ideas, which lie beneath one s surface. This is a topic of discussion that leaves many to ask the question, what is the true meaning of beauty? There are two prominent sonnets, which relate to the principles of true beauty; Petrarch s Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare. These sonnets do nothing less, but use imagery to define the bountiful amount of beauty and how much love they possess for an individual. Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai, represents the true beauty love has by its use of excessive descriptions and tone. Sonnet 130 proves that beauty is not measured by idealistic, regal measures, but rather proposes beauty is average and nothing out of the ordinary. For each sonnet effectively describes its interpretations on the joys of beauty and love. Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai praises the artificial traits of beauty and love. Petrarch often put women on pedestals and describes them with hyperbolic language. His sonnet, Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai, is no exception to his trend. The speaker starts off the sonnet by recounting the feeling he gets when around his love. The speaker says when their eyes meet his passionate rapture rose (1). • 14. The East Facade Of The Louvre Perrault still relied a lot antiquity rule to do his reference, even if Perrault mentions that he created the new taste of architectural element for French. He accepted that Vitruvius theory and order still an important part of his theory. Perrault mentions that, I also contend that whatever innovations I introduce are intended not so much to correct what is ancient as to return it to its original perfection. I do this not on my own authority, following only my own insight, but always in reference to some example taken from ancient works or from reputable writers. The East Facade of the Louvre is hard to define its style because of Perrault s theory and Le vau s influence. A historian, Blunt, argues that the facade shows the Baroqueand Classical style at the same time. He wrote, The Colonnade has no exact parallel in French architecture, but it is the first example in this art of the style of Louis XIV. In certain respects it is Baroque: the scale of the Order, the depth given by the free standing colonnade, the variety of rhythm due to the coupling of the columns. In other ways it is more strictly classical than earlier French work: the clear and simple definition of the masses, the straight line of the front (in contrast to the curves of most of the Italian designs and even Le Vau s first scheme), the severe and almost unbroken entablatures, and the purity of detail in the Order and the mouldings. • 15. Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind Corrie ten Boom s words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first was when she had said Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry it until you are able. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to Corrie s realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or hiding place through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive. Betsie s positivity, forgiveness and faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and character in this particular novel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While this may be the first time we encounter Romeo s melancholy humour, it certainly isn t the last. In fact, one of the primary sources of our infatuation with Romeo rests in our sympathy for him. From the very start this poor boy is plagued by affections for girls that fate, it seems, will not let him be with. At first, it s Rosaline, a girl who has sworn that she will still live chaste (1.1.210), a vow that sets Romeo reeling and complaining because from love s weak childish bow she lives unharmed (1.1.204). His depression over Rosaline is enough to draw the attention of his father, Montague, who has observed that Romeo shuts himself up in his room all day in order to wallow in the darkness. These are the actions of someone who is undeniably quite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everything we do involves technology. And we are always looking for ways to change it to improve something in our lives. We are always striving to make things faster, easier, more efficient. Aesthetics Of Kant And Hegel Shashikant Dr. Prashanta Chakravarty M.A. English (I Semester) 2nd November 2015 The Aesthetics of Kant and Hegel The theories of art put forward by Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) and G.W.F. Hegel (1770 1831) have long been seen to represent two rival positions which nonetheless arise from a distinctive tradition of German philosophy. In both cases, a concern with problems of art and beauty represents only one part of their respective philosophical systems. It is this larger, theoretical framework which lends both theories their characteristic breadth and range of interest. Central to his view of aesthetic judgment is the concept of purposiveness. This refers to the fact that we must assume a certain coherence and connection among the appearances of the external world or nature so that we can reflect coherently upon it. We presuppose a harmony between nature and our cognitive powers, as if they were suited or adapted to each other. It is this presumed harmony, which Kant calls purposiveness, which gives us pleasure. According to Kant, when we make an aesthetic judgment, we make a judgment about the form of an object (not its content as given through our senses); the object s form gives rise to pleasure because it exhibits a harmony with our cognitive powers, namely our understanding and imagination. We then call the object beautiful and our ability to judge the object by such a pleasure is taste . An aesthetic judgment is not a judgment of cognition; it does not refer to the object and gives us no knowledge of it. It refers only to the perceiving subject, to our self and its feeling of pleasure or displeasure. It tells us only about how we, as subjects, are affected by our mental representation of the ... One Punch Man Being a comic book and manga reader, I always fell in love with the plot, read the words and skim through the drawings without stopping to think about the symbolism of the drawings on the pages. While reading McCloud s Understanding Comics and observing Molly Bang s theories on shapes and lines, my mind has opened a broader understanding of what is right in front of me, when I m reading a manga or a comic book. To begin with, in chapter four, McCloud talks about how some artists use lines, multiple images or streaking to show motion. In the manga One Punch Man the artist Yusuke Murata shows Saitama s movement for the serious hop attack with streaking and multiple images, to show the different ways Saitama is approaching his opponent. Also, you can imply Molly Bang s theory on diagonal shapes that show tension or motion in which Yusuke uses both (Look at picture #1). They show their personality through talent no matter what they play; some are better than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a different voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities, they say they do not go through the same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue of racism. Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on sports such as Germany hosting the olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden discrimination that happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that because they are professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Our focus will be on different aspects of this event such as the many purposes which were served by the Challenger space shuttle; we will also specifically focus on the media s role regarding this event and see how it affected the entire situation. Overview When a disastrous event like the Challenger (which was also known as STS 51L) shuttle explosion occurs, the reaction from the media greatly affects the public opinion. In any disaster event the public support for the mission is greatly affected and this factor can greatly jeopardize any further missions since the public has a huge amount of interest where their funding goes. • 33. The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us. Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a friendly gay neighbor who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never ... Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare It is the very error of the moon; She comes more nearer earth than she was wont, And makes men mad. In Shakespeare s comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition for her bounty. (3.3.190) The moon/Desdemona is seen as at once chaste and inclined to change. Later, Othello accuses Desdemona of infidelity despite her protesting innocence. Again, he compares her infidelity with the moon: What committed!/ Heaven stops the nose at it and the moon winks . . . (4.2.74). The moon, once chaste, is now flirting. Similarly, Othello believes that Desdemona, once chaste, is cuckolding him. These two examples show the multiple allegories of the moon that, similarly, exist in women. The moon also symbolizes the changeability of Fortune. What does the Fortune have to do with the moon? Shakespeare considered both of them to be much the same. Both have a cyclical nature (hence the term, Wheel of Fortune ): the moon waxes and wanes just like Fortune waxes and wanes. The Problem Of Induction, Inductive Reasoning, And Weather The problem of induction, inductive reasoning, and weather or not nature is uniform, are questions that have been raised by many a great philosopher. Induction, and Inductive reasoning is when you make observations of past events and occurrences and base your knowledge on those observations. From these observations you make generalizations, the problem with inductive reasoningand the problem with induction is that, your observations generalize and assume, sometimes too much, sometimes on a very limited number of observations which is not necessarily enough to assume that you are in fact right in knowing about a certain thing. Imagine all the swans you had ever seen or heard about were white, and you had never seen or heard of a black swan before. You would then assume and think that there were only such a thing as white swans, and rightly so, but does this mean there is no such thing as a black swan? No, it just means there has not ever been a black swan that you have seen or heard of, but because of inductive reasoning, and your own observations you could make a false claim. The claim that there are only white swans. Inductive reasoning also assumes that because a sequence of events has happened in the past they will again in the future, this is called the uniformity of nature, The sun is an example of this, it rises every day and sets every night, and it has done so since the beginning of time. The solubility of solids increases with the temperature. The increasing of the temperature allows the solvent molecules to easily detach the solute molecules that are held by intermolecular attractions. The solubility of gases is a little more complicated because as the temperature increase the kinetic energy also increases which causes more motion of the molecules to move more freely. • 47. Comparing The Adaptations For Nitrogenous Excretion Across... Report Comparing the Adaptations Relating to Nitrogenous Excretion across Three Taxonomic Groups All organisms produce waste nitrogen products as part of their metabolism. Nitrogen is obtained from the diet in the form of protein and nucleic acids. When a protein is ingested, the tertiary and secondary structures of the protein are denatured. The peptide bonds are also broken, separating the protein into individual amino acids, the basic structure of which is displayed in Fig. 1.1. Amino acids are used to synthesise variety of functional compounds, including nucleic acids and enzymes. However, when amino acids are obtained in the diet in excess of those needed for synthesis of functional nitrogenous compounds, they are either catabolised as energy sources or used as sources of carbon chains for synthesis of non nitrogenous storage compounds. When amino acids are used as energy sources or for the synthesis of non nitrogenous compounds, the nitrogenous component of the acid must first be removed. The amino group, NHв‚‚, is the nitrogenous component of protein and is removed from the amino acid by a catabolic process called deamination. This process removes the amino group from the amino acid and converts it to ammonia (NHв‚ѓ). The ammonia is highly toxic and must either be excreted quickly or converted to a less toxic waste product, such as urea or uric acid, and then excreted. Organisms that excrete nitrogen as ammonia (Fig. 1.2) are ammonotelic. Organisms that convert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symptoms And Treatment Of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus PSYCHOSIS IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: A REVIEW Abstract Key words Lupus, Psychosis, SLE, NP SLE, steroids, reversible INTRODUCTION Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disease of multifactorial etiology that can affect many organs and systems (Sato, 2002). The studies show a higher prevalence in women (approximately 90% of cases), especially during childbearing years, i.e. between 15 and 45 years of age; more common in women of black ethnicity than in Caucasian ones at a ratio of 3:1 , but it can occur in all ethnic groups and geographic regions (BonfГЎ, 2011). The central nervous system is often affected by this disease, causing neurological and/or psychiatric symptoms. Psychiatric syndromes in patients with SLE include a variety of psychiatric findings causing chronic disabilities (Jarpa, 2011). SLE may cause a wide range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms including those due to central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system and different psychiatric syndromes. In 1999, the ACR developed a standardized nomenclature system for the NP syndromes of SLE for the purposes of classification and reporting (The American College of Rheumatology, 1997; 1999).
