Political Proposition 2 Case Study
Against: California Church IMPACT
As I am sure you are aware, the 2014 General Elections are quickly approaching. While there are
many interesting initiatives on the ballot, there is one initiative in particular that could benefit from
your support, as you can from it. Proposition 2 is a bill supported by not only the Democratic and
Republican caucuses, but also by countless organizations and newspapers, including the Howard
Jarvis Taxpayer Association, California Chamber of Commerce, La Opinion, Long Beach Press
Telegram and Los Angeles Times ( Save Your Votes and View Endorsements. ). In addition, some
proponents of the bill are contributors to your campaign, such as the California Chamber of
Commerce (We Draw the Lines, 2014).Your political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The passage of Prop 140 in 1990 had unintended consequences for the legislator. Not only did Prop
140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced funding. The
reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the Assembly Office of
Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the term limits, and lack of
resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the effectivity of the legislator.
Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by lobbyist and the Governor. Recent
studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the legislator to the Governor s budget since
the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although Proposition 2 does not directly fix the
unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of the negative effects, bringing more balance
between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of Proposition 58, the governor has much
discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2 calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget.
Additionally, Proposition 2 mandates that scheduled fund transfers can only be repealed if the
Governor calls a state of emergency and gains approval of the legislator. Requiring approval of the
legislators not only empowers legislators attempting to cope the debt crisis, but also prevents a

I Thank The Great Creator For Bringing Us All Together
My fellow brothers, I thank the great creator for bringing us all together today in a time of such great
importance for the future of the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee are a great and ancient people. Our
great ancestors together settled our nation at the beginning, coming from beyond the great waters, to
our land that surrounds what the white s now call the Appalachian mountains. Our lands were great,
vast, and provided everything our ancestors needed as a Nation. Together as one people, one Nation,
we took care of our land and in return our great mother took care of her children the Cherokee. As
Jenny Walking stick has often reminded us around the ceremonial camp fire, Selu gifted her ancient
children with corn twice a year for her people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the American people were born and became their own fledgling Nation the Cherokee Nation
again treated with the White Man to smoke the great pipe of Peace between the two Sovereign
Nations. The Cherokee nation was a patient nation, as America struggled to learn to govern among the
existing Nations of the World. When the U.S. created its new government under a new Constitution it
recognized the various native peoples as sovereign nations and established the federal government s
sole authority to enter treaties with these nations. The very Act of entering Treaties is an act between
sovereign nations.
As you know I am very old man who has seen much of the history between our two great Nations. I
have treated with the great white father Washington. The great white father recognized the Cherokee
as a sovereign nation. He treated with the Cherokee Nation just as every father of America has since.
In these treaties with the great fathers of the U.S. The Cherokee Nation and the United states defined
their borders just like any treaty the U.S. has entered into with the Nations of Spain or Great Britain.
We repeatedly tried to accommodate our white brothers insatiable appetite by ceding much of
ancestral land in hopes of quenching this thirst. In return the U.S government agreed to protect their
Cherokee Brothers just like an alliance with other foregone nations. Yet the states repeatedly ignored
these treaties and encroached upon our lands to continuously

The Central Statement Of Trinitarian Faith
The Nicene Creed has been the central statement of Trinitarian faith since it was written in 381 A.D.
(106). The Nicene Creed proclaims faith in each aspect of the Trinity, but for some it is hard to
comprehend how Jesus could be equal to the Father. Furthermore, the concept of how each can be
their own being while also existing as one is hard for many to understand. In this paper, one will see
arguments for the existence of God, how God was creator and forgiver, how Jesus was also the creator
and forgiver, and how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one. The Bible is consistent to reveal
that God is the creator, and that he has purpose for his people. He sends his son Jesus, who through
claiming both son ship and oneness with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1 John 4:19 it says, We love because he first loved us. Since God made the world in an act of love,
people are then called to love others because of the love that they have been shown. X In the book of
Genesis, one can see the way that both creation and forgiveness are reserved for God. Genesis 1:1 In
the beginning God, created the heaven and the earth. Matthew Henry talked about in his commentary
of first chapter of Genesis the way that God was the author and cause of this great work, and that the
Godhead was at work creating the earth. The power of God the Creator. El signifies the strong God;
and what less than almighty strength could bring all things out of nothing? The plurality of persons in
the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This plural name of God, in Hebrew, which speaks of him
as many though he is one, was to the Gentiles perhaps a savour of death unto death, hardening them in
their idolatry; but it is to us a savour of life unto life, confirming our faith in the doctrine of the Trinity,
which, though but darkly intimated in the Old Testament, is clearly revealed in the New (Henry, n.d.).
Not long after creation Adam and Eve fell into temptation, and found themselves aware of their
nakedness, hiding from God. Genesis 3:11 He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you
eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat? God knew that they had disobeyed him and

Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Hands
Sherwood Anderson Hands is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson. The action takes place
during the 1890s in Winesburg, Ohio, however, the writer takes you back to Pennsylvania for the
reader to understand the background of the story. The tone of the writer is serious. Hands deals with
the psychological trauma suffered by Adolph Myers, who later adopts the name of Wing Biddlebaum
after being driven out of his town in Pennsylvania by false accusations. I think we can see how
emotionally hurt and mentally disturbed Biddlebaum is. When Willard asks him about his hands;
Biddlebaum gets upset and remembers his students. You hear them talk and you try to imitate them.
He made the use of the word imitate probably because his students jumped in the bandwagon of
accusing him. Here and there went his hands, caressing the shoulders of the boys, playing about the
tousled heads. When I first started reading about how caring he was for the boys, I suspected
immediately of him. But the truth is that Adolph Myers didn t have bad intentions. The touching of the
hair were a part of the schoolmaster s effort to carry a dream into the young minds. What I dislike is
the injustice committed by these parents and the people from the town. Instead of digging deeper to
find out the truth they decided to blame him when there was a lack of evidence to support the facts.
Things are not always what they look like and we should we careful of the things we say. It has been

Comparing Joy Luck Club And The Woman Warrior
Comparing The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior
Amy Tan s immensely popular novel, The Joy Luck Club explores the issues faced by first and second
generation Chinese immigrants, particularly mothers and daughters. Although Tan s book is a work of
fiction, many of the struggles it describes are echoed in Maxine Hong Kingston s autobiographical
work, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts. The pairs of mothers and
daughters in both of these books find themselves separated along both cultural and generational lines.
Among the barriers that must be overcome are those of language, beliefs and customs, and geographic
loyalty. The gulf between these women is sadly acknowledged by Ying ying St. Clair when she says of

Communication becomes impossible (Huntley 46).
This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters.
The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman
Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world. For
Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan herself
stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely (Amy). Her
mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin (Huntley 3). Tan was
taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3). Because Daisy never
became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the two women (Amy). Tan
expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that she has trouble
understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see daughters who grow
impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in
fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are further explored when Lena
St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother and English Irish father, who
each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the cultural crossfire (Tan

Mermaid Observation
Today was a special day to do my observation paper because it is my anniversary. I got to spend time
with my husband and the share the hands on experience together. We spent almost 2 ½ hours at the
Virginia Aquarium Marine Science Center, located in Virginia Beach, on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This
was a perfect day to observe different ethnicity s groups because it was nice outside with a cool breeze
that blew the crowd into the aquarium. We started our visiting the center ourselves before observing
the different people and their families.
In the beginning, we were undecided on which would a be great place to start to observe without
looking suspicious. Therefore, I choose the Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) that swam in the
same tank as some baby sharks. The reason why I picked this particular section out of the entire
aquarium was because it had the most beautiful creature that caught your eyes as you walked by. The
Loggerhead sea turtle was a must picture taking while posing in front of the glass exhibit. The
children eyes lit up as this huge sea creature came towards that glass.

Mesopotamia Statues
The sculptures of the ancient civilizations all varied from country to country. A person could say that
they each created an individual style by using some of what they knew, then made it their own. Some
tried for hyper realistic while others didn t go for realism. They each developed these form the way
they lived. Mesopotamia had statues with big eyes or some didn t have eyes at all. They all seem to
fold their hands for some reason. Some could even say that it s creepy that they look like they re
planning something. It can t really be perceived as hyper realistic because the head is not proportional
to the body. The statues for Egypt weren t realistic either they were missing arms and other parts

competencies in the SLP, I feel that his greatest strength was problem management and his greatest
weakness was negotiation. Secretary Gates has many strengths, but problem management was the one
that seems most dominant. In his 4 1/2 year tenure as Secretary of Defense, he demonstrated that he
could handle difficult problems swiftly. Whether it was pushing for improved equipment on the

French Vs British Army Essay
The British army is one of the strongest army s in the world. The British army defeated many different
armies with strong strategy, strong weapons, and strong soldiers. The British defeated the French with
many things like having the better strategy, more well advanced gunfire and better trained soldiers.
The British army defeated the French s army in the hope of gaining world power. The British army
and their generals came up with a good strategy to outsmart the French army and was able to win
many battles against the French army. The strategy that the French army had was not good enough to
stop the British strong strategy. The British army claimed much world by defeating the French with
their smart and intelligent leaders who came up with a great strategy to defeat the French and claim
the Caribbean island. The gunfire that the British army has was more powerful than the French army.
The French s gunfire was no match compared to the strength of the British s guns, due to the power
the British had over the French this caused the British army to win most of the battles. The type of gun
power that the British army possed was a lot more advanced and was a lot more effective ... Show

The Reality Of The Lgbtq Community
I analyze these two pop culture productions because they are reflections of the current social political
setting in North America. Constituting and diminishing social boundaries, pop culture has wide
reaching influence to generate new sets of values and ideals in audiences (Fedorak 2009). Originating
in mainstream pop culture, discourses of gender and sexuality The Kids Are All Right and The Fosters
support homonormative politics, which privileges some lesbian mothers as intelligible over others. At
differing levels, the gender and motherhood ideals they contain ignore the diverse experiences of
lesbian motherhood. They appear progressive at face value, even queer at times, yet, they ultimately
uphold assimilationist politics and dodge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heteronormativity constructs heterosexual assumptions of gender and sex as an ideal and moral
imperative, cooperating with and sustaining systems of power (Berlant and Warner 1998; Sharma
1999). Systems of power create a hierarchy within heteronormativity, doling privilege to some and
marginalizing others. This hierarchy is present in homosexual communities as well. Norms within the
homosexual community marginalize other kids of sex, gender, and sexuality difference (Stryker 2008).
Using Butler s concept of gender performativity illustrates the way that repetitive performances of
gender leads to social coherency. Unable to attain heteronormative standards as lesbians, the couples
conform to heteronormative standards in several key ways. Through the promotion of a
homonormative domestic discourse, producers tame the otherwise deviant sexual subjects to render
them non threatening to a straight audience, with a broader political impact that depoliticizes and
demobilizes the LGBTQ population (Duggan 2002; Erhart 2013; Warner 2000). In adhering these key
standards of heterosexual culture, a homonormative portrayal of lesbian motherhood emerges.
Visually and conceptually, both couples replicate the heterosexual pattern of masculine and feminine
gender difference and the power difference it implies (Hammock 2009). Discourses of gender and
sexuality serve the sexual division of labour (Butler 1997, 272). It occurs within the

The Legacy Of Isaac Monroe Cline
Isaac Monroe Cline was one of the era s new scientists who believed he knew everything there was to
be known about the motions of clouds and the behavior of storms. Isaac was the chief of the United
States Weather Service bureau in Galveston at this time. The idea of a hurricane destroying the city of
Galveston baffled him. As rain started to fall in the city with a higher intensity than normal, people
were reassured by Isaac s beliefs. He was completely wrong.
Galveston which is located on Galveston Island is a twenty nine mile strip of land estimated about two
miles off the coast of Texas. With the miles of beaches and nice weather it was a popular resort and
seemed to be headed in the direction to become the New York City of the Gulf Coast. It had also
become a commercial port which was thriving. On September 8th, 1900 this changed. Many
vacationers on this day did not pay attention to the warnings let out by the United States Weather
Bureau to get to higher ground. Little did they know a category four hurricane was about to strike the
city becoming the nation s deadliest natural disaster still to this day. About six to eight thousand
people lost their lives out of about thirty six thousand total on the island. (about 20%) In comparison
these deaths were greater than the combined of the Johnstown Flood and San Francisco Earthquake.

Covert Action Examples
As we seen in the readings, covert action is a third option in itself regardless of whether it is accepted
or not to US policy. The readings give many examples which present themselves as appropriate
actions to take in previous cases mentioned. One of the cases is the US involvement in the Afghan
Soviet War resulting in the Soviet Union withdrawing from Afghanistan. (Clark, 2007) This may be
interpreted as a future issue, but nonetheless giving assistance pushed the Soviets out of Afghanistan.
The paramilitary and equipment assistance given to the Mujahedeen gave them the ability to fight the
Soviet Invaders to the point of becoming detrimental and pushing the military force out. During WWII
an involvement of Covert Action became necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hulnick, 2002) The times in which cover action is needed the most is when military action is too
large and political action will not have a substantial effect. The ability to use black propaganda would
discredit the organization and pull support the organization would need to survive. (Clark, 2007) With
paramilitary actions, the training and equipping of forces to counter the terror groups would be able to
bring the ability to strike without using large military forces. Essentially, parliamentary actions would
be using the indigenous population to become a proxy military. (Clark, 2007) The ability to affect the
terror groups and criminal elements with covert actions gives the ability to affect these groups actions
without having to use large scale military objectives and maintain the plausible deniability in the
instance where the operations fail. (Clark, 2007) The need for foreign policy remains, but in certain
cases having the ability to use covert actions bridges the gap. If an enemy cannot be reasoned with or
a rogue nation decides to place the US in its crosshairs for a Nuclear Strike, covert action is taken after

Political Interventions Impacting On Profitability

During the early 1900 s the introduction of many different types of deer were introduced to New
Zealand for sport. These included the Red Deer, Wapiti, Fallow, Sambar, Sika, Rusa, White tailed deer
and moose. However by the early 2000 s Red Deer were the most common breed to be found in the
wild. These deer were released into an environment where they had no predators unlike the
characteristics of their origins. This meant that the numbers of deer sky rocketed and began to have
serious impacts depleting the native scrub and pastoral farmland. In 1930 the department of internal
affairs (who had been put in charge of solving the increasing deer numbers) set up a team of
government cullers to control the wild deer populations. However deer populations continued to rise
and by the 1950 s a team of 125 men killed 50,000 deer a year without impacting the overall
populations. By the 1960s, wild deer populations were out of control and venison prices at the time
were around 20 cents a kg. This meant that many people decided that they could make a comfortable
living hunting deer for the meat. In 1969 the Noxious Animals Act passed which meant that deer were
no longer classified as wild animals. Deer Farming Regulations were introduced providing
opportunities for the licensing of deer farms. The first Deer farming license was given in 1970. In the
1970 s venison prices soared to more than $2 per kg which resulted in the venison

The Role Of Refugees According To The 1951 Refugee Convention
According to the 1951 Refugee Convention, states have the obligation to accept and protect refugees
(REFERENCE). This indicated that so long individuals fit the definition of refugee status, states are
compelled to accept and protect them. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case on a global
level. According to international law, more specifically the 1951 Refugee Convention, refugees are to
be taken in and are to be provided housing, education, and other services in their host country
(REFERENCE). Beyond the acceptance of refugees, states should also be invested in the integration
of refugees into the host society. In recent history, the humanitarian disasters that have happened in
across the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia have caused the total upheaval of many lives from
living under the protection of the roofs of their homes to leaving many displaced.
A refugee is defined as someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country origin, owing to
a well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a
particular social group, or political opinion (1951 Refugee Convention, 3). The Universal Declaration
of Human Rights 1948 recognizes the right of persons to seek asylum from persecution in other
countries. The United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees adopted in 1951 is the
centerpiece of international refugee protection today (1951 Refugee Convention, 2). The amount of

Biblical Allegory In The Edenian
In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many
cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way
(Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles
is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m
not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and
features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical
connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2
and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the
Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can
be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture
provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world
in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how
it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind
the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made
within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text.

The Importance Of Socialization In Ancient Roman Society
The biggest and most indicative social activity in ancient Roman society was that of gladiatorial
combat, and all of the additional components that went along with it. Roman s of all ages,
backgrounds, and social classes spent an exorbitant amount of time observing and enjoying this brutal
pastime. For many, especially historians that hold Rome in high regard, it s hard to believe that these
games were such a critical and pervasive component of Roman social life. To historians the games are
scandalous, a monstrous phenomenon, a morass or hatred and sadomasochism, (Meijer, pp. 2). The
evolution of the games from their beginning in roughly 27 BC (Meijer, pp. 19) and all details about
them are masterfully details in Fik Meijer s The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Although Rome was an incredibly successful and wealthy society at it s peak, it was also plagued by
extreme levels of stratification and class conflict. Everybody had their place in society whether that
was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave. The Roman
Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the Roman
colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row of seats, on a
raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans, often dressed in
white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in the first row at the
centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105). Although this class structure was
understood by Roman citizens, it wasn t always abided by. The common people and Gladiators alike
did have instances of revolution and revolt. In 73 BC, Spartacus the Gladiator led a relatively
successful gladiator/slave revolt, eighty gladiators escaped. The escape plan has been attributed to
three men, Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus, (Meijer, pp. 31). Although they did ultimately meet their
death, this instance illustrated the dissatisfaction of some Gladiators with the class system they found
themselves in. On the other hand if we

IMMIGRANT MIGRATION
One in every fifty human beings more than 150 million persons live outside their countries of origin as
migrants or refugees. They are highly vulnerable to racism, and discrimination. The fact that an
increasing proportion of international migration today is irregular and unauthorized facilitates abuse
and exploitation. But, even when their movements are legal and authorized, non citizens face high
levels of discrimination. Immigrants both legal and illegal make up 13% of the nation s workers, the
highest percentage since the 1930s. They dominate job categories at both ends of the economic
spectrum. Immigrants hold 35% of the unskilled jobs. It is not that Americans are not afraid of doing
hard work; they are just unwilling to put themselves at risk of losing an eye or finger for minimum
wages.
In fact most of the nation s 17.7 million immigrant workers toil, like those who preceded them, in jobs
that native born Americans refuse to do. They work as meatpackers, hotel maids, hamburger flippers,
waiters, gardeners, seamstresses, fruit and vegetable pickers, and construction hands. (USA Today,
2001) Immigrants, above all illegal immigrants, can not defend themselves against abusive

Imperialism Essay
Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history
behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for
imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw
the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism.
Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined
as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook,
608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power.
Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete
with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories
(textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital,
commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother
country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better
understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother
country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good

Pros And Cons Of Technology Based Society
With the world we live in today, it s not a secret that we are moving towards a more technological
based society. Just like with other aspects of life, there are pros and cons to this transition. First off,
with technology becoming more of a necessity in today s world, more people and businesses rely on
this for their daily lives and operations. For example, according to (Schiffer, 2017), a casino used an
internet connected fish tank to help keep track of the tank s temperature, cleanliness, and food. The
article goes on to tell how the casino s information was hacked by hackers accessing to the fish tank.
Personally, I was amazed by how the hackers could hack an entire casino, through one fish tank. On
the other hand, a technology based world can also make life easier. For example, Amazon has now
begun to use robots in their warehouses to sort and pick items. Although this may threaten some
employee s jobs, these machines are easier to operate and can be monitored more closely than an
employee. The fish tank in the casino and the robots that Amazon use are classified as the Internet of
Things.
According to (Cornish, 2017), the internet of things refers to electronic devices that transmits
information back and forth of the internet. These items include but are not limited to Fitbits and
Amazon Echo with Alexa. I personally own an Amazon Echo and I can say that I love using it. Using
only your voice, it can play music, call someone, or even search the Internet. With the

Comparing Kafka s The Metamorphosis And Cinnamon Shop
Literary artists, from authors to poets, have used their works to explore their histories and traditions in
relation to society. These themes have changed the way in which a reader interprets different works.
This essay will primarily examine the implications of culture, language and traditions in Kafka s novel
The Metamorphosis and Schulz s short story Cinnamon Shops.
Franz Kafka, born in Prague (1883 1924) and Bruno Schulz born in Drohobych (1892 1942) were
both born into Jewish families of the Austro Hungarian Empire (1867 1918). Kafka was part of a
middle class German speaking family, whereas Schulz was part of a humble, Polish speaking family.
During this time, Prague constituted of a large Jewish population, the working class majority ... Show

Kafka and Schulz both have unique methods in formulating a story. Kafka s work tends to be sober
whereby he writes about the most bizarre of things but in a methodical and straightforward manner.
The reader immediately gets this impression from the onset, as Kafka dives straight into the action,
rather than offering the reader a reasonable explanation. Schulz, on the other hand, is very artistic in
the way he writes. Schulz was a writer as well as an artist, his artistry is shown through the use of his
descriptive and almost phantasmagorical language. Schulz opens with At the time of the shortest
sleepy winter days edged on both sides of furry dusk mornings and evenings (Schulz, 1). His use of
sibilance shortest sleepy sets the tone of the story. The alliterative S has created a rhythm which
suggests a lethargic and composed atmosphere. With the additional effect of the in between of
Mornings and evenings , the setting is both alienated from the day, as well as the night. By doing this
Schulz has introduced a twilight effect which adds a sense of mystery and

INFORMATION:
Nelson Rohihlahia (stirring up trouble) Mandela was born on 18 July 1918, near Umtata, in the
Transkei region of South Africa. His father was Chief Henry Mandela of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela

What Were The Causes Of The First World War
By the fact, we know that there were four main causes, which led to the First World War. Exactly, they
are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. Actually, each of them had an influence that
created the conditions to the First World War, however imperialism created tension that became build
up feature in Europe as well as in outside of Europe. Owing to imperialism, those three causes
(militarism, alliance and nationalism) were able to influence to the beginning of the First World War.
Generally, imperialism is known as a kind of government that tries to build its size, either by affecting
different nations to submit to their principle. Despite the fact that not all events that fall into the
imperialistic classification were about controlling another nation, they participated to the war, and
imperialistic events were the establishment of the reason for the First World War.
Preceding World War I the world s biggest, wealthiest and most predominant royal influence was
Great Britain. The British Empire broadly involved one fourth of the globe ( the sun never sets on

Jamaic Out Of Many, One People
Jamaica: Out of Many, One People History of the Culture One would think that an island would have
a culture of its own with very little outside influence, however that is not the case with this island.
Located in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is rich in culture from its European and African history.
Jamaica was first populated by the Taino people, who were also called Arawaks, in AD 600. It was
then found by Christopher Columbus in 1492, and shortly thereafter became a Spanish Territory. A
decade later, the population was equally split between Spanish and slaves with a small percentage of
free blacks and the native Taino people. In 1655, the English army captured Jamaica and fifteen years
later, Jamaica formerly concedes to England. A decade later, the slaves, making up eighty four percent
of the population, decided to rebel. However, full emancipation from slavery happened in 1838,
almost a century later despite the gross population unbalance. Beginning in 1841, the island started
having more outside influence when the first indentured workers arrived from Africa, India, China,
Syria, Lebanon and the Mediterranean. In 1962, Jamaica gained full independence from Britain after
almost two decades of self government formation. The history and vast cultural influences of Jamaica
makes the country s motto of Out of many, One People ring true. (Mordecai Mordecai, 2001) Slavery
of a nation is a tragic hardship of the people, however the abolition of slavery brought

Redneck Subculture
Other than goths I think a subculture that really stands out in our culture is the subculture deemed as
redneck, I am not certain what the exact title of this subculture is or should be because it can be pretty
diverse. I was raised in a small farming and mining town so I have seen firsthand how diverse red
necks can be; a redneck can be anything from a dignified rancher to a back woods, alligator wraslin
[sic], moon shine drinking, hillbilly. Webster defines rednecks as, a white person who lives in a small
town or in the country especially in the southern U.S., who typically has a working class job, and who
is seen by others as being uneducated and having opinions and attitudes that are offensive.

Typically a redneck would be participating in manual labor jobs such as, working on ranches or farms
where is most of the population works desk jobs, this causes a rift in the two cultures. Rednecks also
deviate from the norm in the language portion of life; rednecks have their own language and slang that
most people do not understand. For example, a redneck would confuse their semantics and use the
word far as the word fire, You better turn down the stove before the chicken catches far, or they will
use the word ranch in the place of wrench, Hey skeeter, go fetch me that there ranch from my truck.
Other than their slang rednecks also dress in a very profound way; redneck boys and redneck girls
have a very unique style. Usually it is a combination of ripped up jeans with stains all over them, no
doubt from strenuous manual labor, and some random camo pattern tee shirt that probably has
barbeque sauce on it, and of course the muddy cowboy boots and dirty hat. Rednecks use boundaries
to distinguish themselves from others in these ways and more, their vehicles, their attire, their
language, and their life styles. Rednecks are very proud of their life

Footloose Analysis
I saw Footloose, directed by John Wilson and written by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, on Thursday in
the Highlander Theatre at UCM. The story is about a high school boy who moves to a small town with
his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is against the law to dance.
Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the town has the right to express
themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s note, and gave a spiel about what
he believed the audience should take away from the show. His goal was for us to make a connection
with how the youth and the adults found a way to work through their problems by talking it out. I
believe this is an extraordinary message in today s society as technology is embraced by the youth and
shunned by the older generations. However, I believe that other parts of the show, such as the
relationship between the reverend and his wife, had a much larger impact than the message that he had
hoped to send. There were many parts of the acting that I believe if worked on would have given the
show substantially more impact. Granted, it is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene,
in such a way that the audience loses themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the
characters are feeling. However, the two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that
John hoped to send were simply underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit

Pros And Cons Of Being Outside The Field Of Dermatology
SOCIETAL CONCERNS There could be a lot of social issues when it comes to dermatology because
it deals with a person s skin and that is what everyone sees. In today s society, the way a person looks
means everything. That s good for a dermatologist because their job is to get rid of flaws in the skin,
however, this will continue the trend of looks meaning everything to people instead of a person s
personality or talents and gifts. This could cause people to have lower self esteem, problems in social

Based on the negative consequences of the trends and issues, I believe there are ways to prevent them

future when I am in my career, to prevent these things from happening I will make sure when I am

Paul s Influence On Christianity
The Pauline epistles are the fourteen books in the New Testament traditionally attributed to Paul the
Apostle. There is wide consensus in modern New Testament scholarship on a core group of authentic
Pauline epistles whose authorship is rarely contested: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians,
Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon. The several other letters allegedly written by Paul lack
academic consensus: Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 2 Timothy, and Titus. However, both
the real and the fake apostle Paul are of great importance to Christianity and played a major role in
spreading this new religion. Paul s influence on Christian thinking arguably has been more significant
than any other New Testament author. Paul declared that Christ is the end of the law , exalted the
Christian church as the body of Christ, and depicted the world outside the Church as under judgment.
It has been said that if it were not for Paul, Christianity would have remained a small unknown branch
of Judaism. Paul was the leading missionary to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

John Piper Essay
The author, John Piper, is a retired pastor, author, and theologian. Piper wants his readers to know that
the goal of preaching is the glory of God (21). Piper also states that the ground of preaching is the
cross of Christ, and the gift of preaching comes from the power of the Holy Spirit (23). Piper
accomplishes his goal within both parts of the book. Part one is dedicated to why God should be
supreme in preaching, and part two is how to make God supreme in preaching. This a great book for
students, pastors, and those within the church. Piper reminds his audience that God is the focus of
preaching and nothing else. This review will summarize, review, and critique the work while
providing a conclusion. Summary The purpose and thesis is clearly defined as Piper writes, For God
aims to exalt himself, not the preacher, in this affair of preaching. And that brings us to the theme: the
supremacy of God in preaching (23). God is the goal and ground of preaching, and the means by
which men preach is the Holy Spirit (23). Piper goes on to state that he has a burden to plead for the
glory of God in preaching with the grand object of preaching to be the infinite and inexhaustible being
of God (24). Piper accomplishes his goal by dividing the book into two parts. Piper focuses on why

without the cross (36). Preaching the cross of Christ will also keep a preacher humble because it has
the power to convict of sin so that one may turn away from sin. In other words, proclaiming the cross
of Christ is central to any preacher s

Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force
that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be
humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as
experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap
(an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from
the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer
importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more

While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often
disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord
and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity.
Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the
Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the
Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that
grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be
exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or
acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as
alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike
the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification),
Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the
Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt

United States entry into World War 1 while exploring the roles which public opinion should play when
making such decisions in comparison to expert policy makers opinions. In addition, other available
options that should have been put into consideration will be explored.
Despite the neutrality standpoint of the United States, tension began to rise between ... Show more

These incidents combined with dwindling diplomatic relations between Germany and the United
States increased anti German feelings in America.
Another factor that majorly influenced American public opinion was stories run by British press
regarding invasion of neutral Belgium by Germany. Allegations of small towns being eliminated and
innocent civilians being killed angered and stunned the Americans. Although some of these stories
were fabricated to serve as British propaganda, they served their purpose of prompting a strong anti
German sentiment.
The protection of its economic interests was also a major factor, which influenced the decision for
America to participate in World War 1. American businesspersons such as J.P. Morgan who were
interested in victory of the alliance funded French and British wars. These funds, roughly 3 billion US
Dollars were mainly in form of loans and bond purchases. This led to the fear that incase Central
Powers (Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) emerged victorious; the Allies
(France, Britain and Italy) would be unable to repay these debts. As a measure to counter this risk,
these businessmen united to support a campaign movement; Preparedness Movement , which pushed
for America to intervene in the war and support the Allied forces.

Easy Rider Analysis
In Easy Rider, the mid 20th century intriguing drama directed by Dennis Hopper, we were drawn back
to 1969 to shed light on the influences of drugs, sex, and culture as the characters began to question
the American system in this counterculture movement. The counterculture movement provoked an
alternative lifestyle that came about during the Vietnam War. The tensions following the protests of
human inequalities embodying racial segregation and the frustration faced with the draft system
resulted in the Civil Rights Movement. This film, Easy Rider, helped to formulate and to transition
over to the New Hollywood slump era. With the experimentation of new drugs such as cocaine and
marijuana, people yearned to grasp a fresh perspective on life through the usage of these substances.
These hippies, especially the characters throughout the film, Billy and Wyatt, wanted to acquire
different forms of these perceptions so they were not viewed as inadequate within society. The essence
embodied throughout the film exhibits Billy and Wyatt aspiring to find freedom through Hopper s
usage of stylistic forms through film editing and cinematography. These stylistic forms do not work in
isolation, but rather work together to create the underlying message in the quest to find themselves.
Even from the very start of the film, formalist elements are exemplified throughout the camera
movement as being jerky and careless. While still alluring in the natural presence expressed
throughout the captivating views of scenery during the sequences of the cross country motorcycle ride.
Easy Rider s central theme is freedom; while Billy and Wyatt embark on an adventure throughout
America in pursuit to find a community to establish their roots. They traveled to many destinations
from Los Angeles to New Orleans to get that sense of belonging to join society harmoniously. They
essentially could not find what they were ultimately searching for. As the film initially starts, the
chopper detailed in authentic American features arrives at the La Contenta Bar, a rugged bar located in
California to participate in a drug deal. The inefficient and weak looking machines they drive, which
is a depicted as the American dream, exemplifies

A Comparison Of Mi Familia And Fools Rush In
For my comparison I watched the 1997 movie Fools Rush In, written by Katherine Reback and Joan
Taylor. This film features Matthew Perry (playing the role of an white architect from NY) and Salma
Hayek (playing Isabel Fuentes a Mexican American photographer). Alex and Isabel hit it off at first
sight and end up having a one night stand. Isabel gets pregnant from that night, and the two ends up
trying to make a relationship work despite their vastly different cultural backgrounds. The parents of
the two young lovers have extremely different values and family ideals which lead to confrontation.
Long story short, Alex and Isabel work through their differences and get married with full support of
both families in the end. Mi Familia and Fools Rush In both portray traditional gender roles and male
dominant family dynamics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conversation starts out somewhat peaceful, with both fathers agreeing that the situation is wrong.
The mothers both agree that young love is natural and it is ok what they are doing, but don t say
anything after that. Both fathers start arguing over what religion the baby will be, insulting each other
s cultures in the process. The mothers have no say in the argument, reinforcing that the male is the
voice and authority of the family. The message that the white culture should be embarrassed of
Mexican American culture is present in both films. The scene when Alex s parents first meet Isabel
and think is the cleaning lady (because Alex didn t tell them she is his wife), mirrors the scene when
Memo bring his white fiancé s family to his house. Alex and Memo were embarrassed to introduce
their white cultured side of the family to their Mexican American side. I found it interesting that both
movies tried add comic relief to a situation of serious racial tension and

Essay about Thucydides vs Plato
Compare and contrast Thucydides and Socrates analyses of the fate of Athenian democracy in war, of
why the Athenians went to war, and of how and why they failed.
The Peloponnesian War was the turning point in Athenian hegemony in Ancient Greece. It was fought
in 431 B.C. between the Delian League, led by Athens, and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
According to Thucydides, Athens imposing hegemonic status and its overwhelming quest for more
power made the Peloponnesian War and Athens s eventual fall from power inevitable. Despite the
Athenians having a far more superior navy and being considerably wealthier, they were defeated and
made subjects of Sparta. In this paper, I will discuss Thucydides and Socrates reasons for why ...

When Sparta gave its ultimatum to Athens, Pericles was more than happy to oblige and go to war. He
embodies Athenian arrogance and overzealousness. Pericles speaks to the Athenian assembly
convincing them to go to war because according to him, they cannot lose. Pericles explains how
Sparta doesn t have the same financial advantages that Athens does and how Athens has a far superior
navy. According to Pericles, the best strategy is to use that to Athens advantage, leaving Attica
exposed by only attacking and defending the sea were they have an advantage. Pericles finishes of by
saying that Athens possesses all of Sparta s strengths and none of its weaknesses, and Athens must
fight so that future generations will have an Athens that is as good as ever. Pericles was known for
being a powerful speaker and in the end, the Athenians took his advice and war soon followed. A year
after war broke out, Pericles was once again invited to speak, this time at the customary public funeral
for those who had fallen in combat. What follows is arguably the best eulogy in history. For the
families of the fallen soldiers he states that they did not truly die, for famous men have the whole earth
as their memorial...not in any visible form but in people s hearts, [where] their memory abides and
grows. Of Athens he says, Future ages will wonder at us, as the present age wonders at us now.
Pericles is able to remain optimistic of Athens victory and

How Did The Electric Guitar Changed The Way They Able To...
Imagine music how it is now, now imagine music if the electric guitar was never invented over 70
years ago. What would music be like? That I cannot answer. But what I can answer is how the electric
guitar changed the way we are able to make music. When there was no electric guitar, only acoustic,
we were only blue to play at a certain volume usually not loud enough for a lot of people to hear.
When pickups were introduced, it allowed the guitar to be amplified through a large speaker. The
electric guitar gave a lot of opportunities to alter the sound that goes through the pickup. Whether it be
a picking technique or an effect pedal people have made sounds unreplicatable from another player. It
also created the perfect environment for certain genres like blues which was a genre long before the
electric guitar was invented. The electric guitar changed the history of music by making music louder,
giving new opportunities to alter the sound, and it created the perfect environment for old and new
genres. Before the electric guitar, there was only an acoustic. This was a hollow design allowed sound
to transfer from the strings into the chamber which released a fair amount of sound ... Show more

This of course, is the blues. Blues was around in the 1920s and was played on an acoustic guitar. The
electric guitar was a much better fit as the blues was all about expression. The fact that it was
amplified allowed for more complex solos.
The guitar has always been important to blues music. The electric guitar Les Paul helped develop
made modern blues music possible. There have been many great blues guitarists. Yet, music experts
say all blues guitar players are measured against one man and his famous guitar. That man is B.B.
King. Every blues fan knows that years ago B.B. King named his guitar Lucille. Here B.B. King plays
Lucille on his famous recording of The Thrill Is Gone (Ember,

Analysis Of The Tigress By Ise Jingu Shinto Shrine
The three ways in which authority is expressed in the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine. One of the main ways
that authority is expressed at Ise Jingu is in its construction as it is not a permanent building but in fact
rebuilt every twenty five years in a cycle of birth and renewal. Because of this it requires a huge
monetary and laborious process that has to be organized and the ability to construct this temple shows
that a leader not only has a skilled workforce but also the funds to embark on such a task. The Tigress
Jataka is a specific story of one of the Buddha s past lives and covers the themes of self sacrifice and
virtue. The of plot of this story is of a teacher who upon discovery of a tigress about to eat her cubs

  • 2. Political Proposition 2 Case Study Against: California Church IMPACT As I am sure you are aware, the 2014 General Elections are quickly approaching. While there are many interesting initiatives on the ballot, there is one initiative in particular that could benefit from your support, as you can from it. Proposition 2 is a bill supported by not only the Democratic and Republican caucuses, but also by countless organizations and newspapers, including the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association, California Chamber of Commerce, La Opinion, Long Beach Press Telegram and Los Angeles Times ( Save Your Votes and View Endorsements. ). In addition, some proponents of the bill are contributors to your campaign, such as the California Chamber of Commerce (We Draw the Lines, 2014).Your political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The passage of Prop 140 in 1990 had unintended consequences for the legislator. Not only did Prop 140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced funding. The reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the Assembly Office of Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the term limits, and lack of resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the effectivity of the legislator. Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by lobbyist and the Governor. Recent studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the legislator to the Governor s budget since the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although Proposition 2 does not directly fix the unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of the negative effects, bringing more balance between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of Proposition 58, the governor has much discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2 calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget. Additionally, Proposition 2 mandates that scheduled fund transfers can only be repealed if the Governor calls a state of emergency and gains approval of the legislator. Requiring approval of the legislators not only empowers legislators attempting to cope the debt crisis, but also prevents a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Thank The Great Creator For Bringing Us All Together My fellow brothers, I thank the great creator for bringing us all together today in a time of such great importance for the future of the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee are a great and ancient people. Our great ancestors together settled our nation at the beginning, coming from beyond the great waters, to our land that surrounds what the white s now call the Appalachian mountains. Our lands were great, vast, and provided everything our ancestors needed as a Nation. Together as one people, one Nation, we took care of our land and in return our great mother took care of her children the Cherokee. As Jenny Walking stick has often reminded us around the ceremonial camp fire, Selu gifted her ancient children with corn twice a year for her people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the American people were born and became their own fledgling Nation the Cherokee Nation again treated with the White Man to smoke the great pipe of Peace between the two Sovereign Nations. The Cherokee nation was a patient nation, as America struggled to learn to govern among the existing Nations of the World. When the U.S. created its new government under a new Constitution it recognized the various native peoples as sovereign nations and established the federal government s sole authority to enter treaties with these nations. The very Act of entering Treaties is an act between sovereign nations. As you know I am very old man who has seen much of the history between our two great Nations. I have treated with the great white father Washington. The great white father recognized the Cherokee as a sovereign nation. He treated with the Cherokee Nation just as every father of America has since. In these treaties with the great fathers of the U.S. The Cherokee Nation and the United states defined their borders just like any treaty the U.S. has entered into with the Nations of Spain or Great Britain. We repeatedly tried to accommodate our white brothers insatiable appetite by ceding much of ancestral land in hopes of quenching this thirst. In return the U.S government agreed to protect their Cherokee Brothers just like an alliance with other foregone nations. Yet the states repeatedly ignored these treaties and encroached upon our lands to continuously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Central Statement Of Trinitarian Faith The Nicene Creed has been the central statement of Trinitarian faith since it was written in 381 A.D. (106). The Nicene Creed proclaims faith in each aspect of the Trinity, but for some it is hard to comprehend how Jesus could be equal to the Father. Furthermore, the concept of how each can be their own being while also existing as one is hard for many to understand. In this paper, one will see arguments for the existence of God, how God was creator and forgiver, how Jesus was also the creator and forgiver, and how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one. The Bible is consistent to reveal that God is the creator, and that he has purpose for his people. He sends his son Jesus, who through claiming both son ship and oneness with the ... Since God made the world in an act of love, people are then called to love others because of the love that they have been shown. X In the book of Genesis, one can see the way that both creation and forgiveness are reserved for God. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God, created the heaven and the earth. Matthew Henry talked about in his commentary of first chapter of Genesis the way that God was the author and cause of this great work, and that the Godhead was at work creating the earth. The power of God the Creator. El signifies the strong God; and what less than almighty strength could bring all things out of nothing? The plurality of persons in the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This plural name of God, in Hebrew, which speaks of him as many though he is one, was to the Gentiles perhaps a savour of death unto death, hardening them in their idolatry; but it is to us a savour of life unto life, confirming our faith in the doctrine of the Trinity, which, though but darkly intimated in the Old Testament, is clearly revealed in the New (Henry, n.d.). Not long after creation Adam and Eve fell into temptation, and found themselves aware of their nakedness, hiding from God. Genesis 3:11 He said, Who told you that you were naked? • 6. Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Hands Sherwood Anderson Hands is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson. The action takes place during the 1890s in Winesburg, Ohio, however, the writer takes you back to Pennsylvania for the reader to understand the background of the story. The tone of the writer is serious. Hands deals with the psychological trauma suffered by Adolph Myers, who later adopts the name of Wing Biddlebaum after being driven out of his town in Pennsylvania by false accusations. I think we can see how emotionally hurt and mentally disturbed Biddlebaum is. When Willard asks him about his hands; Biddlebaum gets upset and remembers his students. You hear them talk and you try to imitate them. He made the use of the word imitate probably because his students jumped in the bandwagon of accusing him. Here and there went his hands, caressing the shoulders of the boys, playing about the tousled heads. When I first started reading about how caring he was for the boys, I suspected immediately of him. But the truth is that Adolph Myers didn t have bad intentions. The touching of the hair were a part of the schoolmaster s effort to carry a dream into the young minds. What I dislike is the injustice committed by these parents and the people from the town. Instead of digging deeper to find out the truth they decided to blame him when there was a lack of evidence to support the facts. Things are not always what they look like and we should we careful of the things we say. It has been tested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Joy Luck Club And The Woman Warrior Comparing The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior Amy Tan s immensely popular novel, The Joy Luck Club explores the issues faced by first and second generation Chinese immigrants, particularly mothers and daughters. Although Tan s book is a work of fiction, many of the struggles it describes are echoed in Maxine Hong Kingston s autobiographical work, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts. The pairs of mothers and daughters in both of these books find themselves separated along both cultural and generational lines. Among the barriers that must be overcome are those of language, beliefs and customs, and geographic loyalty. This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters. The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world. For Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan herself stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely (Amy). Her mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin (Huntley 3). Tan was taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3). Because Daisy never became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the two women (Amy). Tan expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that she has trouble understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are further explored when Lena St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother and English Irish father, who each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the cultural crossfire (Tan ... Constituting and diminishing social boundaries, pop culture has wide reaching influence to generate new sets of values and ideals in audiences (Fedorak 2009). Originating in mainstream pop culture, discourses of gender and sexuality The Kids Are All Right and The Fosters support homonormative politics, which privileges some lesbian mothers as intelligible over others. Heteronormativity constructs heterosexual assumptions of gender and sex as an ideal and moral imperative, cooperating with and sustaining systems of power (Berlant and Warner 1998; Sharma 1999). Systems of power create a hierarchy within heteronormativity, doling privilege to some and marginalizing others. This hierarchy is present in homosexual communities as well. Norms within the homosexual community marginalize other kids of sex, gender, and sexuality difference (Stryker 2008). Using Butler s concept of gender performativity illustrates the way that repetitive performances of gender leads to social coherency. Unable to attain heteronormative standards as lesbians, the couples conform to heteronormative standards in several key ways. Through the promotion of a homonormative domestic discourse, producers tame the otherwise deviant sexual subjects to render them non threatening to a straight audience, with a broader political impact that depoliticizes and demobilizes the LGBTQ population (Duggan 2002; Erhart 2013; Warner 2000). In adhering these key standards of heterosexual culture, a homonormative portrayal of lesbian motherhood emerges. Visually and conceptually, both couples replicate the heterosexual pattern of masculine and feminine gender difference and the power difference it implies (Hammock 2009). Discourses of gender and sexuality serve the sexual division of labour (Butler 1997, 272). It occurs within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Legacy Of Isaac Monroe Cline Isaac Monroe Cline was one of the era s new scientists who believed he knew everything there was to be known about the motions of clouds and the behavior of storms. Isaac was the chief of the United States Weather Service bureau in Galveston at this time. The idea of a hurricane destroying the city of Galveston baffled him. As rain started to fall in the city with a higher intensity than normal, people were reassured by Isaac s beliefs. He was completely wrong. Galveston which is located on Galveston Island is a twenty nine mile strip of land estimated about two miles off the coast of Texas. With the miles of beaches and nice weather it was a popular resort and seemed to be headed in the direction to become the New York City of the Gulf Coast. It had also become a commercial port which was thriving. On September 8th, 1900 this changed. Many vacationers on this day did not pay attention to the warnings let out by the United States Weather Bureau to get to higher ground. Little did they know a category four hurricane was about to strike the city becoming the nation s deadliest natural disaster still to this day. About six to eight thousand people lost their lives out of about thirty six thousand total on the island. (Clark, 2007) This may be interpreted as a future issue, but nonetheless giving assistance pushed the Soviets out of Afghanistan. • 16. Political Interventions Impacting On Profitability Political interventions impacting on profitability During the early 1900 s the introduction of many different types of deer were introduced to New Zealand for sport. These included the Red Deer, Wapiti, Fallow, Sambar, Sika, Rusa, White tailed deer and moose. However by the early 2000 s Red Deer were the most common breed to be found in the wild. These deer were released into an environment where they had no predators unlike the characteristics of their origins. This meant that the numbers of deer sky rocketed and began to have serious impacts depleting the native scrub and pastoral farmland. In 1930 the department of internal affairs (who had been put in charge of solving the increasing deer numbers) set up a team of government cullers to control the wild deer populations. However deer populations continued to rise and by the 1950 s a team of 125 men killed 50,000 deer a year without impacting the overall populations. By the 1960s, wild deer populations were out of control and venison prices at the time were around 20 cents a kg. This meant that many people decided that they could make a comfortable living hunting deer for the meat. In 1969 the Noxious Animals Act passed which meant that deer were no longer classified as wild animals. Deer Farming Regulations were introduced providing opportunities for the licensing of deer farms. The first Deer farming license was given in 1970. This indicated that so long individuals fit the definition of refugee status, states are compelled to accept and protect them. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case on a global level. According to international law, more specifically the 1951 Refugee Convention, refugees are to be taken in and are to be provided housing, education, and other services in their host country (REFERENCE). Beyond the acceptance of refugees, states should also be invested in the integration of refugees into the host society. In recent history, the humanitarian disasters that have happened in across the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia have caused the total upheaval of many lives from living under the protection of the roofs of their homes to leaving many displaced. A refugee is defined as someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country origin, owing to a well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion (1951 Refugee Convention, 3). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 recognizes the right of persons to seek asylum from persecution in other countries. • 18. Biblical Allegory In The Edenian In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way (Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2 and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text. ... • 20. The Importance Of Socialization In Ancient Roman Society The biggest and most indicative social activity in ancient Roman society was that of gladiatorial combat, and all of the additional components that went along with it. Roman s of all ages, backgrounds, and social classes spent an exorbitant amount of time observing and enjoying this brutal pastime. For many, especially historians that hold Rome in high regard, it s hard to believe that these games were such a critical and pervasive component of Roman social life. To historians the games are scandalous, a monstrous phenomenon, a morass or hatred and sadomasochism, (Meijer, pp. 2). The evolution of the games from their beginning in roughly 27 BC (Meijer, pp. 19) and all details about them are masterfully details in Fik Meijer s The ... Everybody had their place in society whether that was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave. The Roman Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the Roman colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row of seats, on a raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans, often dressed in white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in the first row at the centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105). Although this class structure was understood by Roman citizens, it wasn t always abided by. The common people and Gladiators alike did have instances of revolution and revolt. In 73 BC, Spartacus the Gladiator led a relatively successful gladiator/slave revolt, eighty gladiators escaped. The escape plan has been attributed to three men, Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus, (Meijer, pp. 31). Although they did ultimately meet their death, this instance illustrated the dissatisfaction of some Gladiators with the class system they found themselves in. On the other hand if we ... • 23. Imperialism Essay Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism. Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good ... Just like with other aspects of life, there are pros and cons to this transition. First off, with technology becoming more of a necessity in today s world, more people and businesses rely on this for their daily lives and operations. For example, according to (Schiffer, 2017), a casino used an internet connected fish tank to help keep track of the tank s temperature, cleanliness, and food. The article goes on to tell how the casino s information was hacked by hackers accessing to the fish tank. Personally, I was amazed by how the hackers could hack an entire casino, through one fish tank. On the other hand, a technology based world can also make life easier. For example, Amazon has now begun to use robots in their warehouses to sort and pick items. Although this may threaten some employee s jobs, these machines are easier to operate and can be monitored more closely than an employee. The fish tank in the casino and the robots that Amazon use are classified as the Internet of Things. According to (Cornish, 2017), the internet of things refers to electronic devices that transmits information back and forth of the internet. These items include but are not limited to Fitbits and Amazon Echo with Alexa. I personally own an Amazon Echo and I can say that I love using it. Schulz, on the other hand, is very artistic in the way he writes. Schulz was a writer as well as an artist, his artistry is shown through the use of his descriptive and almost phantasmagorical language. Schulz opens with At the time of the shortest sleepy winter days edged on both sides of furry dusk mornings and evenings (Schulz, 1). His use of sibilance shortest sleepy sets the tone of the story. The alliterative S has created a rhythm which suggests a lethargic and composed atmosphere. Generally, imperialism is known as a kind of government that tries to build its size, either by affecting different nations to submit to their principle. Jamaic Out Of Many, One People Jamaica: Out of Many, One People History of the Culture One would think that an island would have a culture of its own with very little outside influence, however that is not the case with this island. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is rich in culture from its European and African history. Jamaica was first populated by the Taino people, who were also called Arawaks, in AD 600. It was then found by Christopher Columbus in 1492, and shortly thereafter became a Spanish Territory. A decade later, the population was equally split between Spanish and slaves with a small percentage of free blacks and the native Taino people. In 1655, the English army captured Jamaica and fifteen years later, Jamaica formerly concedes to England. A decade later, the slaves, making up eighty four percent of the population, decided to rebel. However, full emancipation from slavery happened in 1838, almost a century later despite the gross population unbalance. Beginning in 1841, the island started having more outside influence when the first indentured workers arrived from Africa, India, China, Syria, Lebanon and the Mediterranean. In 1962, Jamaica gained full independence from Britain after almost two decades of self government formation. The story is about a high school boy who moves to a small town with his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is against the law to dance. Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the town has the right to express themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s note, and gave a spiel about what he believed the audience should take away from the show. His goal was for us to make a connection with how the youth and the adults found a way to work through their problems by talking it out. I believe this is an extraordinary message in today s society as technology is embraced by the youth and shunned by the older generations. However, I believe that other parts of the show, such as the relationship between the reverend and his wife, had a much larger impact than the message that he had hoped to send. There were many parts of the acting that I believe if worked on would have given the show substantially more impact. Granted, it is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene, in such a way that the audience loses themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the characters are feeling. However, the two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that John hoped to send were simply underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is wide consensus in modern New Testament scholarship on a core group of authentic Pauline epistles whose authorship is rarely contested: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon. The several other letters allegedly written by Paul lack academic consensus: Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 2 Timothy, and Titus. However, both the real and the fake apostle Paul are of great importance to Christianity and played a major role in spreading this new religion. Paul s influence on Christian thinking arguably has been more significant than any other New Testament author. Paul declared that Christ is the end of the law , exalted the Christian church as the body of Christ, and depicted the world outside the Church as under judgment. Piper also states that the ground of preaching is the cross of Christ, and the gift of preaching comes from the power of the Holy Spirit (23). Piper accomplishes his goal within both parts of the book. Part one is dedicated to why God should be supreme in preaching, and part two is how to make God supreme in preaching. This a great book for students, pastors, and those within the church. Piper reminds his audience that God is the focus of preaching and nothing else. This review will summarize, review, and critique the work while providing a conclusion. Summary The purpose and thesis is clearly defined as Piper writes, For God aims to exalt himself, not the preacher, in this affair of preaching. And that brings us to the theme: the supremacy of God in preaching (23). God is the goal and ground of preaching, and the means by which men preach is the Holy Spirit (23). Piper goes on to state that he has a burden to plead for the glory of God in preaching with the grand object of preaching to be the infinite and inexhaustible being of God (24). Man is sinful and estranged from God, and God is so holy that man cannot be reconciled to Him. There is only one solution and that is the cross of Christ. This is what preachers must proclaim to dead and lost sinners. That is the only hope unbelievers have. Piper states, Preaching would not be valid without the cross (36). Preaching the cross of Christ will also keep a preacher humble because it has the power to convict of sin so that one may turn away from sin. • 40. Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap (an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification), Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. What Is The Events That Justified The United States Entry... When World War 1 started in 1914, United States president Woodrow Wilson promised non participation of his country. The conflict appeared characteristic of the rottenness of old Europe, which favored the neutrality position of majority of American citizens. However, a series of implacable events dragged the United States into the war. This paper will discuss the events that justified the United States entry into World War 1 while exploring the roles which public opinion should play when making such decisions in comparison to expert policy makers opinions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These incidents combined with dwindling diplomatic relations between Germany and the United States increased anti German feelings in America. Another factor that majorly influenced American public opinion was stories run by British press regarding invasion of neutral Belgium by Germany. Allegations of small towns being eliminated and innocent civilians being killed angered and stunned the Americans. Although some of these stories were fabricated to serve as British propaganda, they served their purpose of prompting a strong anti German sentiment. The protection of its economic interests was also a major factor, which influenced the decision for America to participate in World War 1. American businesspersons such as J.P. Morgan who were interested in victory of the alliance funded French and British wars. These funds, roughly 3 billion US Dollars were mainly in form of loans and bond purchases. This led to the fear that incase Central Powers (Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) emerged victorious; the Allies (France, Britain and Italy) would be unable to repay these debts. As a measure to counter this risk, these businessmen united to support a campaign movement; Preparedness Movement , which pushed for America to intervene in the war and support the Allied forces. • 42. Easy Rider Analysis In Easy Rider, the mid 20th century intriguing drama directed by Dennis Hopper, we were drawn back to 1969 to shed light on the influences of drugs, sex, and culture as the characters began to question the American system in this counterculture movement. The counterculture movement provoked an alternative lifestyle that came about during the Vietnam War. The tensions following the protests of human inequalities embodying racial segregation and the frustration faced with the draft system resulted in the Civil Rights Movement. This film, Easy Rider, helped to formulate and to transition over to the New Hollywood slump era. With the experimentation of new drugs such as cocaine and marijuana, people yearned to grasp a fresh perspective on life through the usage of these substances. These hippies, especially the characters throughout the film, Billy and Wyatt, wanted to acquire different forms of these perceptions so they were not viewed as inadequate within society. The essence embodied throughout the film exhibits Billy and Wyatt aspiring to find freedom through Hopper s usage of stylistic forms through film editing and cinematography. These stylistic forms do not work in isolation, but rather work together to create the underlying message in the quest to find themselves. Even from the very start of the film, formalist elements are exemplified throughout the camera movement as being jerky and careless. While still alluring in the natural presence expressed throughout the captivating views of scenery during the sequences of the cross country motorcycle ride. Easy Rider s central theme is freedom; while Billy and Wyatt embark on an adventure throughout America in pursuit to find a community to establish their roots. They traveled to many destinations from Los Angeles to New Orleans to get that sense of belonging to join society harmoniously. They essentially could not find what they were ultimately searching for. This film features Matthew Perry (playing the role of an white architect from NY) and Salma Hayek (playing Isabel Fuentes a Mexican American photographer). Alex and Isabel hit it off at first sight and end up having a one night stand. Isabel gets pregnant from that night, and the two ends up trying to make a relationship work despite their vastly different cultural backgrounds. The parents of the two young lovers have extremely different values and family ideals which lead to confrontation. Long story short, Alex and Isabel work through their differences and get married with full support of both families in the end. Mi Familia and Fools Rush In both portray traditional gender roles and male dominant family dynamics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mothers have no say in the argument, reinforcing that the male is the voice and authority of the family. The message that the white culture should be embarrassed of Mexican American culture is present in both films. The scene when Alex s parents first meet Isabel and think is the cleaning lady (because Alex didn t tell them she is his wife), mirrors the scene when Memo bring his white fiancé s family to his house. Alex and Memo were embarrassed to introduce their white cultured side of the family to their Mexican American side. • 44. Essay about Thucydides vs Plato Compare and contrast Thucydides and Socrates analyses of the fate of Athenian democracy in war, of why the Athenians went to war, and of how and why they failed. The Peloponnesian War was the turning point in Athenian hegemony in Ancient Greece. It was fought in 431 B.C. between the Delian League, led by Athens, and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. According to Thucydides, Athens imposing hegemonic status and its overwhelming quest for more power made the Peloponnesian War and Athens s eventual fall from power inevitable. Despite the Athenians having a far more superior navy and being considerably wealthier, they were defeated and made subjects of Sparta. When Sparta gave its ultimatum to Athens, Pericles was more than happy to oblige and go to war. He embodies Athenian arrogance and overzealousness. Pericles speaks to the Athenian assembly convincing them to go to war because according to him, they cannot lose. Pericles explains how Sparta doesn t have the same financial advantages that Athens does and how Athens has a far superior navy. According to Pericles, the best strategy is to use that to Athens advantage, leaving Attica exposed by only attacking and defending the sea were they have an advantage. Pericles finishes of by saying that Athens possesses all of Sparta s strengths and none of its weaknesses, and Athens must fight so that future generations will have an Athens that is as good as ever. Pericles was known for being a powerful speaker and in the end, the Athenians took his advice and war soon followed. A year after war broke out, Pericles was once again invited to speak, this time at the customary public funeral for those who had fallen in combat. What follows is arguably the best eulogy in history. For the families of the fallen soldiers he states that they did not truly die, for famous men have the whole earth as their memorial...not in any visible form but in people s hearts, [where] their memory abides and grows. • 45. How Did The Electric Guitar Changed The Way They Able To... Imagine music how it is now, now imagine music if the electric guitar was never invented over 70 years ago. What would music be like? That I cannot answer. But what I can answer is how the electric guitar changed the way we are able to make music. When there was no electric guitar, only acoustic, we were only blue to play at a certain volume usually not loud enough for a lot of people to hear. When pickups were introduced, it allowed the guitar to be amplified through a large speaker. The electric guitar gave a lot of opportunities to alter the sound that goes through the pickup. Whether it be a picking technique or an effect pedal people have made sounds unreplicatable from another player. It also created the perfect environment for certain genres like blues which was a genre long before the electric guitar was invented. The electric guitar changed the history of music by making music louder, giving new opportunities to alter the sound, and it created the perfect environment for old and new genres. Before the electric guitar, there was only an acoustic. This was a hollow design allowed sound to transfer from the strings into the chamber which released a fair amount of sound ... The electric guitar was a much better fit as the blues was all about expression. The fact that it was amplified allowed for more complex solos. The guitar has always been important to blues music. The electric guitar Les Paul helped develop made modern blues music possible. There have been many great blues guitarists.
