Policies That Influence The Cost Of Education
Policies that influence the cost of education affect people s decisions to attend college. Previous
literature discuss policies and programs influencing marginal benefits and the cost of obtaining a
college education, such as the Pell Grant (Seftor and Turner 2002, Rubin 2011, Kane 2003), financial
aid and assistance programs (Cornwell, Mustard, and Sridhar 2006, Dynarski 2003, Kane 2007) and
insurance provision (Cohodes et al. 2016, Miller and Wherry 2016). These studies provide evidence
that increasing exposure to the information of assistantships and expanding eligibility of assistantship
programs improves college enrollment. We assume health insurance works in a similar way to
financial aid and assistantship programs by reducing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the pre reform period covers 2007 2010 survey year (2006 2009 calendar year).
Considering the potential differential impacts of the reform, we further separate the post reform period

Phy Irradiation Essay
Enhancement of the conductivity and dielectric properties of PVA/Ag nanocomposite films using γ
irradiation.

Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt
Abstract
The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA films
was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then irradiated
with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the PVA film were
determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be 0.4 wt %. The films
have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements. As a result, the
dielectric constant (ε) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase. The conductivity of the
films and dielectric loss (tan δ) of increases with increasing the gamma irradiation doses. The
conductivity was found (σ = 4.9 x10−8 S m−1) for 125 KGy. Frank poole emission is the prevailing
transport mechanism for all samples.
Keywords: Dielectric properties, Dc conductivity, I V characteristics.

Great White Shark Informative Speech
They have 300 serrated teeth, a torpedo shaped body and swallow their prey whole. Can anyone one
tell me what sea creature this is? Yes. It s the Great White Shark.
Introduction:
Hey everyone, I m Nino and today I will informing you all about the most fierce and feared predator
in the sea. In this speech I will be discussing the evolution, the physiology, its ecological niche and
propose a postulate for the future health and survival of the Great White Shark. The Great White is
scientifically known as the Carcharodon carcharias and is considered a carnivorous killing machine
which is at the top of its food chain. This fish has been around for hundreds of millions of years and
its evolution has enabled it to develop some extraordinary abilities ... Show more content on

The Great White is ovoviviparous, which mean that the shark grows in an egg which is then hatched
inside the mother. Once the shark pup is born it stays in the womb for a short period of time where the
embryos feed on unfertilized eggs which is referred to as oophagy. The gestation period is the time
that the eggs are in the womb until they hatch which is estimate to around 12 to 18 months. Lastly, is
the litter size which ranges vastly for the Great White from two to ten pups. The new born measures to
5 feet (1.5 metres) and weighing 77 pounds (35Kg). However, the reason as to why the Great White
doesn t breed as fast as other animals is because they have a slow growth rate to maturity and a low
reproductive rate which is a worry for the survival of its kind in the future as they only live up to the
age of 30 years old.
Population:
The estimation of the Great Whites Shark is set to be estimated at 2000 however recent studies
indicate that this number has decreased by 50 % and the already threatened species is closer to
extinction that was hoped for. To prevent this animal for becoming extinct a number of countries have
vowed to protect the Great White Shark and they are South Afric, Namibia, USA, Australia and Malta.

The Outline Of The Titanic
Titanic
When: Started building on March 31, 1909. The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912. It sank on April 15,
at 2:20 A.M.
Where: Left from Southaptom, England, and was on its way to New York. Made stops in Cherbourg,
France and sailed to Queenstown(now known as Cobh), Ireland. Sank in the North Atlantic.
Who: Ship was created by White Star Liner. The architect was Thomas Andrews. Around 2,200 people
were boarded on the ship. Edward John Smith was the appointed captain.
What:
The construction of the RMS Titanic started on March 31, 1909 in Belfast, North Ireland and cost $7.5
million. The man who designed it was a naval architect named Thomas Andrews. The ship was built to
be the world s largest passenger steamship, along with two other ships, the Olympic and Britanic.
Although the ship has always been known to many as unsinkable, it was actually never supposed to be
advertised like that. Extra measures were put into the ship to insure safety, for example, if four
watertight compartments out of the 16 were flooded, the ship would still stay afloat. Even though all
these precautions were made, who would have ever thought that a single iceberg could cause such a
huge devastation. The ship set sail on April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England and on its way to
New York. The total passengers were around 2,200 people, including a crew of around 900. The
passengers were divided into certain classes depending on what kind of ticket they paid for, with first
class being the most

The Effects Of Dual Relations On The Therapeutic Alliance...
In a psychotherapist s office, there are a multitude of occurrences that may prompt possible boundary
crossings and violations some that may impact the therapeutic alliance or some that may enhance the
relationship. Therefore, a psychotherapist must weigh the possible risks and benefits when coming
across such instances that may engender a boundary crossing, a boundary violation, or a formation of
a dual relationship. Although, not all boundary crossings or dual relationships are considered
unethical, psychotherapists should still be weary of trespassing such ambiguous territory, especially
when the trespassing can lead to exploitation of a client or impairment on the psychotherapist s
professional judgment (Jensen, 2005). Thus, an analysis of decision making is warranted in Lying on
the Couch (Yalom, 1997), where psychotherapists, Dr. Marshal Streider and Dr. Ernest Lash, facilitate
a myriad of dual relationships and boundary crossings via self disclosure, without taking into
consideration the implications this may have on the client. A dual relationship is defined by the
American Psychological Association as one in which a psychotherapist is in not only a professional
relationship with a client, but is also either in a non professional relationship with that client or in a
non professional relationship with someone who is close to that client (APA, 2010). In Lying on the
Couch (Yalom, 1997), Dr. Streider enters a professional relationship with Peter Macondo, who

Gender Identity As An Axis Of Social Order
Gender is considered an axis of social order. Its categorisation into masculinity and femininity is
social constructed and maintained in everyday life (Clark and Page, 2005; Mackie, 1994). Gender
identity is our innermost understanding of our self as male or female . Most people develop a gender
identity that matched their biological sex (their body). Gender identity can be affected by, and is
different from one society to another, depending on the way the members of society evaluate the role
of females and males. Our gender identity can be influenced from the ethnicity of the group, their
cultural background, and family values. Gender like social class and race can be used to socially
categorize people and even lead to prejudice and discrimination. From day to day, continuous
production of gender has been called doing gender (West and Zimmermann, 1987), meaning that
gender is made by us in everyday lives in our interactions with others.
The media does affects and influenced gender identity. For instance children are constantly bombarded
with shows depicting gender stereotype models from toys marketed as for boys or girls, to children s
TV programmes and shows. It is common for children s programmes to emphasize the role of the
make hero who saves the weak female. Children interpret these messages as real life which shapes
their reality, behaviour and expectations of their gender role. However, the social construction of
gender does not happen only, it continues

Alcohol Expectancy Theory
The purpose of this study is to investigate undergraduates expectancies of consuming alcohol on its
own and consuming alcohol combined with energy drinks. An individual s beliefs regarding what will
happen as a result of consuming alcohol are referred to as Alcohol Expectancies (Brown, Goldman,
Inn, Anderson, 1980). These are often tested on an scale called the Anticipated Effects of Alcohol
Scale (AEAS) assessing individuals against criterion which varied in positive and negative valence
and low and high arousal (Morean, Corbin, Treat, 2012). Prior to this scale, the alcohol expectancy
theory concluded that individuals are more at risk of excessive alcohol consumption if they believe
that consuming alcohol will lead to low levels of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst Verster, Benson, and Scholey (2014) found that there were no relevant differences between
motivation behind AmED consumption and other nonalcoholic mixers in a study of 2329 Norwegian
students, most studies have found that there were varying motivational factors as to why individuals
consumed alcohol mixed with energy drinks. For example, Marczinski, Fillmore, Henges, Ramsay,
Young, (2013) found an association between individuals wanting to drink more and their AmED
consumption. Supporting these findings, another study showed that individuals often believe that
consuming AmED s will have more positive outcomes, such as reducing alcohol intoxication,
although the results showed that the consumption of AmED s actually led to increased negative
outcomes (Droste et al., 2014). Alternatively AmED s being used to aid intoxication was also reported
(Cobb et al., 2013; MacKillop et al., 2012; Peacock et al., 2013a; Pennay and Lubman, 2012).
Furthermore, another study concluded that an individual s propensity to consume alcohol mixed with
energy drinks were due to a combination of motivational factors; expectancies, beliefs, social
interactions, and attitudes (Varvil Weld et al.,

The Arabic Language is One of the Oldest and Most Difficult
The Arabic Language In the world there are many languages, some are difficult and some are simple;
some are ancient, some are modern. One of the oldest and hardest languages in the world is the Arabic
language because it has difficult grammar and every word or vocabulary word has many meanings.
The Arabic language began in the 8th century B.C, but it developed twelve centuries later in 4 A.D.
The first people to speak this language are the Christians, but after four hundred years later the
Muslims spoke the same language because they lived together in the same area. (The Middle East) In
the website Ask.com it states that, The Middle East, also known as West Asia, is conveniently located
where the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia meet. According to the USC School of Education
more than two hundred eighty million people in twenty six countries speak the Arabic language, but
not everyone uses the same accent. There are similarities and differences in how the Muslims and
Christians use the Arabic language in the Bible and the Quran, and there are similarities and
differences in how they use the language in the Middle East.
In some ways people use the Arabic language in the Bible and Quran in the same way. One way they
use the language the same way is that they use the same type of writing. For example in the English
language there is cursive and print writing . Another way people use the arabic language is according

The American Culture Of Strict Conformity Accounts
An American culture of strict conformity accounts for the rise of the phenomenon known as the Red
Scare, as well as its widespread nature and prominent power. The Red Scare was complicated and a
result of many different aspects of American culture. However the American culture in the 1950 s was
one of strict conformity. This conformist society, created in the late 1940 s was created by many early
discoveries that uncovered Communist members as Soviet spies. There arose a prevalent belief that
anyone who thought differently was unpatriotic. This conformist nature of American society thus
resulted in few organizations fighting for social justice. The Communist party therefore attracted a
wide range of liberals from different aspects of life. Joseph McCarthy himself, along with many other
governmental officials, was able to institute anti communist laws and practices under the pretense that
an unwavering conformity was the American goal. The conformist nature of American society in the
1950 s created one of the most powerful anti communist crusades and allowed for a dominant Red
Scare.
McCarthyism rose to power so quickly in the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s because the perception
of an internal Communist threat had just enough plausibility to be convincing . Americans feared that
communists who would overthrow the government were a realistic threat . During World War Two
there were many Soviet spies that had infiltrated many aspects of American covert operations. Alger

Essay about Analysis of Teenage Wasteland
The Imperfection of Perfection In Anne Tyler s Teenage Wasteland, the reader is given insight into the
difficulty of parenting through Daisy s desperate attempt to stop her son from his seemingly
uncontrollable downward spiral. The paranoia of her perfect parenting techniques leads to the tainting
of Donny s innocence over time and eventually his mysterious disappearance at the end of the story.
Through symbols of innocence and corruption, Tyler demonstrates the importance of keeping one s
head clear and focused while parenting, and that using common sense and logic is far more effective
than relying on idealism and hope. In the first three lines of the story, the reader is given a sense of
Donny s virtue during youth and how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The description of the face as endearing and fine featured implies that Daisy believes her son still has
his innocence or perfection. The fact that the dark hair hangs around his face suggests (in Daisy s
eyes) that Donny s out of control behavior only masks his true purity and innocence. In return, Daisy
feels that her son still has the ability to be saved. The change in Donny s innocence, and his mother s
idea that the perfect child exists, is directly correlated to Daisy s view on parenting throughout the
story. It is Daisy s view on parenting that causes her to turn to Cal as a tutor for Donny in the hopes
that he has all the answers. At Cal s house, Donny and the other teenagers are drawn to the the
basketball court. Basketballs are a reoccurring symbol throughout the story. The narrator states, Spring

with the othersspiky and excited, jittering on his toes beneath the backboard (Tyler 192). Donny is
jittering and excited while playing basketball during the spring. Hence, the basketball symbolizes
happiness during Donny s youth. A basketball is mentioned again at the end of the story: It s

The Segregation Of The United States
In Spite of the devastating history of segregation in the United States. A lot has changed in the past
fifty years since segregation ended. The United States shifted from arresting African Americans for
using white only facilities to integrated schools all over the country. Influential individuals such as
Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr helped pave the way for African Americans to live as equals to
along with their white counterparts in the United States of America. What is Segregation In 1896 the
United States Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutionally legal to segregate African Americans
with their white counterparts. In the court case of Plessy v. Ferguson an African American man in
Louisiana named Homer Plessy refused to follow the mandated Jim Crow laws which enforced that
African Americans have to sit in a designated area when riding on a train. Plessy argued that his
fourteenth amendment right was violated equal protection clause, which prohibits the states from
denying equal protection of the laws to any person within their jurisdictions (Duignan, 2016).
However, when Plessy s case moved to the Supreme Court they ruled the object of the Fourteenth
Amendment was to create absolute equality of the two races before the law, such equality extended
only so far as political and civil rights (e.g., voting and serving on juries), not social rights (e.g., sitting
in a railway car one chooses) (McBride, n.d. ). As a result, Plessy v. Ferguson

Procedure
We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training
technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper
with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the
pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations
mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the association between sound and food was
strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the
training of Sniffy to press the bar himself.
Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was
adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to

press the bar. Sniffy was first rewarded only when Sniffy would rear up facing the wall where the bar
and hopper were located. Later Sniffy would be rewarded when he reared closer and

Theodicy and Ethics Within Islam
Theodicy and Ethics within Islam Critically analyzing and reflecting upon the concept of Theodicy
and Ethics, one may interpret these two concepts to have great influence upon the significance of
Islam. The functions of these two concepts are to further broaden one s understanding of Islam. Both
concepts are essential to learning about the Islamic way of life. Moreover, in Islam theodicy and ethics
serve as the basis of the problem of evil, right and wrong, the principle of taklif, practicing
forgiveness, and many other doctrines. Muslims render the Qur an to be their foundation of morality.
In this reflection paper, the problem of evil and the basis for moral action will be used to further
supplement our perception of Islam. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Islam, God has given us the choice of right and wrong and if Muslims follow the path of
the Qur an, then they shall receive salvation. Additionally, God is omniscient but man still needs
punishment for any evil acts. The problem of evil arises when free moral beings choose to do evil acts.
We, as free beings, tend to abuse our rights of freedom and cause harm to others and ourselves. For the
evil acts committed by man, there are great consequences. Suffering, above all, will be faced by God
in order to challenge man to move freely toward moral perfection. Nonetheless, Allah forgives all
those who accept responsibility for their actions; man is once again relieved of impurities. God is all
merciful. Yes, one does wrong, but when one is truly sorry, Allah will forgive man, for Allah is just
and benevolent. The concept of Ethics is however, not new to my understanding, but I think of this
reflection to be one that will broaden my spectrum of moral action of world religions other than my
own. The basis or foundation of moral action resides in the Qur an and Sunna. Moreover, the Qur an
leads the way for developing a moral lifestyle in compliance with Allah. The Qur an shows man a
passageway to reality, to a complete and forgiving world. Furthermore, the Qur an and the Sunna
incorporate the fundamentals and ethics Muslims should fulfill. The Qur an serves as a basis,

Alcatraz Prison Or Island
Alcatraz was a very famous prison located on a island in the San Francisco bay. It was used for many
different things over the years. All different types of people also stayed there, and not just the
prisoners. Life at the prison was bad in some ways but not as bad as you think. Many did try to escape
and failed, but some did succeed. However with every land some wanted it as much as we did.
Everyone knows of Alcatraz as a prison, but how did it become what it is today? The word or title
Alcatraz is derived from the spanish word Alcatraces (Federal Bureau of Prisons.) . Today we know
the term alcatraz to be defined as a pelican or strange bird using a dictionary. The meaning of these

Speech On True Forgiveness Is True Freedom
Take on the really tough things that happen in life. Anything, yes, anything can be forgiven if you
truly desire to remove the pain from continuing in your life. You will not change what happened, and
you will control how it reflects in your future. Stop a minute and ponder, what would your life feel
like with the power to forgive anything, and anyone, including yourself? True forgiveness is true
freedom.
Many life lessons are learned from nature. Stand on the edge of the canyon and shout. Listen to echo
as it bounces around and comes back full circle. The mind is much the same way. Your thoughts create
active echoes. As long as you choose to hang onto the resentment and anger an active echo bounces
around and affects your every decision. The offender wins. You never progress to become completely
free of the damaging behavior. The echos are sometimes hard to identify and they come back a little
muffled. Still they deliver the same chemical messages to the brain and the whole emotional cycle
runs through, even if you are not sure why. It doesn t always connect with a straight line. What is

Make Lemonade Theme Analysis
The theme for the book Make Lemonade is making sour into sweet which means to take something
bad and try to make it into something good. This theme is shown through the whole book. LaVaughn
and Jolly go through very difficult times. LaVaughn is helping Jolly through her rough times in this
book. Turning sweet into sour is a big theme in this book because it shows how Jolly and LaVaughn
have to make their lives better. Jolly doesn t have a very good education but she tries to change that.
Also, Jolly is only 17 and she has 2 kids to take care of. This theme could be universal because it
shows how even when our life is at the hardest point you can still turn it around. In the beginning of

My Informative Speech On Parcheesi
For any presentation, keeping the audience engaged is the number one priority. Over the course of the
semester we learned various techniques to engage with the audience and to keep them focused. For
example, asking the audience questions either during or after your presentation can be a good way to
make the audience feel involved. Asking for volunteers is another way to make your audience feel
important. These were some techniques that I liked to use during my presentations. I used both of
these techniques specifically during my informative speech about Parcheesi. One reason that I think
the audience was the most engaged during my informative speech is because it was a new topic for
most of them. A lot of people have not heard of Parcheesi and I think the introduction of a new topic
helped keep the audience engaged. When I would around while giving my informative speech I saw a
lot of active listeners . The textbook defines active listening as Giving undivided attention to a speaker

Your first job in the introduction is to get the attention and interest of the audience. You can do this by
posing a question, telling a story, making a startling statement, or opening with a quotation. The
purpose of all these methods is to create a dramatic, colorful opening that will make your audience
want to hear more (Lucas 65). In my introduction for my informative speech I used a lot of the
techniques that the book discusses. For example I asked questions, like How many of you like to play
board games and Have any of you ever played Parcheesi? (Sullivan 1). Another technique that I used
in my introduction was telling a story. In my introduction I said, Every night before I go back to
school my grandma comes over and my mom, brother, grandma, and I eat spaghetti and then play a
game of Parcheesi (Sullivan 1). I also used a quote in my introduction paragraph for my informative

Use of Prosody in the Selected Poems of Gwendolyn Brooks...
Poetry has a role in society, not only to serve as part of the aesthetics or of the arts. It also gives us a
view of what the society is in the context of when it was written and what the author is trying to
express through words. The words as a tool in poetry may seem ordinary when used in ordinary
circumstance. Yet, these words can hold more emotion and thought, however brief it was presented.
What makes a good poetry? It is not only in the idea or thought of what the author is trying to express.
What makes a good poetry beautiful is in how the writer makes use of the words, lines, and spaces and
indents. The rhythm of the poem can make a significant impact in the expression of the idea. Even the
structure of words can make a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pattern made by the alliteration and assonance makes the poem so easy to remember and also easy

the speaker in the poem. There is also an overall effect of becoming familiar and understanding how
the blues echoed through the head of the speaker.
Gwendolyn Brooks is the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize. She has also received a lot of
awards and fellowships throughout her life. Born in 1917, she started her writing career in poetry at an
early age, publishing her first poem in 1930. 1967 was a turning point in her career as it was in this
year that she attended the Fisk University Second Black Writers Conference. In this conference, she
has decided to involve herself in the Black Arts Movement. While awareness of social issues and
elements of protest is found generally in all her works, some of her critics found in her work an
angrier tone after joining the movement.
She has also written essays, reviews, and books. She is also a prolific poet, becoming extensive in
writing poetry which moves from the traditional ones to even the unrestricted free verse. Her
characters are mostly from the underclass of the black neighborhoods which shows the impact of city
life to the people within. As one of the most visible poets in the United States, she is active not only in
public readings and poetry workshops but she also participates in contests and classes

I Am An Outsider Looking At The Organization As An Insider
I am an outsider looking at the organization as an insider due to commanding one of the battalions in
4th ABCT. This strength is also a weakness that can lure me into a false sense of comfort in a time
where action is desperately needs. Since my departure the unit has conducted a deployment to
Afghanistan and is in the final stage of the reintegration. My brigade is suffering from a lack of
mission commitment as a result of several different missions and minimal leadership involvement. In
developing a new path for the 4th ABCT the key is to examine the problem, then develop a new
vision, and finally use the Kotter s 8 Stage Model to anchor lasting improvement to the organization.
This situation presents an opportunity to my command to customize the unit to meet its challenges in
the future. Problems in a unit returning from deployment are nothing new, but the 4th ABCT is going
down a dangerous path if the situation is not course corrected. At the heart of the problem the unit is
suffering from a lack of mission commitment as a result of several different missions and minimal
leadership involvement. While deployed my new unit trained for one mission and then was divided up
once in country to carry out several missions to include a Security Force Advisor Team. Soldiers
trained on one set of task then were utilized completely differently. The unit feels betrayed by the
Army s last minute decision to align the unit towards this new mission only hurting commitment

The Awakening
Greetings, I was twenty four year Zach Adams, who lived a simple life. I wasn t dating and I lived
alone in a small apartment in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though everything changed overnight and I
gained three lives overnight night. Therefore, prepare to hear how I lived three lives and lost my own.
I had just been fired from my job because my company went bankrupt so it was a rough chapter of my
life. I barely slept at night because the stress overfilled my mind and drenched all my dreams with
insecurity. My body ached from this unknown, fear of what would happen and I felt like I hit rock

Laying in the cramped enclosed room, I stared at my dark skin and smelt my body odor as sweat

Sliding through the rack I grabbed a small collared shirt and put over a vest. After I was dressed I ran

The Positive Relationship Between Women And Soap Operas
Soap operas over the years have ended up obtaining a bad stigma that even Modelski says if television
is considered by some a vast wasteland, soap operas are thought to be the least nourishing spot in the
desert (128). Most people would explain them as over dramatic, unrealistic, or even too feminine but
Modelski tries to overcome the bad wrap soap operas have by shining light on the connection she has
seen between women and soap operas. Her point is to not ignore but focus on what is feminine about
soap operas (129). The found connection in this essay gives a little more of a positive view on soap
operas and their viewers. Modelski at the start points out a disconnect between men and soap operas,
giving the example of the Phil Donahue Show. While airing on the topic of handicapped Vietnam War
Veterans and their experiences Donahue interrupted the conversation to assure his audience
(comprised of almost entirely women) that he was not giving them soap opera. As though it may seem
like a male just trying to reclaim his heterosexuality once again, which was in fact what was going on,
it also shows the special place men put themselves. They place themselves above the soap operas, the
gushy emotional and disconnect with the drama the soap operas contain. Soap operas weren t made for
men, so they place it below them trying to make exceptions for themselves when they are giving a
soap opera.
Within Modelski s essay she asserts the typical setting in a soap

I Am Serving As An Instructor
Reading these initial chapters in our textbook comes at an interesting time for me, as I am currently
serving as an instructor for the first time! Speaking from personal experience, I agree with the authors
in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I believe it would be difficult
to recover with students (as well as your own self esteem) starting out ill prepared. I really wish that I
could have taken this course prior to serving as an instructor, or at the very least attended some kind of
training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and McKeachie point out, is having a firm
grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and relate to students appropriately. Although
common sense should prevail, training in this area may help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack
of understanding on the part of the instructor. I appreciate the timeline that chapter two offers in
relation to preparing to teach three months in advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the
future. This section highlights the importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides
detailed instructions on how to stay on task. I did find the discussion of course goals and objectives
interesting because I had assumed they would be set by the university or department. Regardless, the
authors make clear the importance of goals and objectives; however from my experience there doesn t
seem to be much emphasis placed on these in the

Persuasive Speech For Your Address In Our School
Superintendent Crouse, Loveland Administration, and Loveland School Board Members, just last year
you vied for us to obtain our own tennis courts, which I use every week. As a result of this, I hold very
high regards and respect for you, and the fact that you care for all your students, and want to do all
you can to improve our school lives. For this, I know you are welcome to new ideas, and I hope to be
able to share mine without giving you the wrong impression, as I have no intent to offend you in any
way. My focus as of this moment is to change the course scheduling for classes, so that we could have
different weeks for different subjects, but still maintain a four block day. The idea came to me from
my French class, on account of the fact that the French actually do this at their schools.
In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of our
classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks, however,
we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know, there are some
flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run into, would have to
be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive order. To solve this
problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their scheduling, which would
happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just have to revert back to block
scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do now. In result, the student would
get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their remaining classes. Another problem that
some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes, homework, or finals, because we can t all have
time turners. Taking two weeks off could potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units
really only take about two weeks to explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework
wouldn t overlap unless it were some long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the
extra time and effort to get through would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do

Analysis Of As You Like It, A Play Written By William...
As you like it, a play written by William Shakespeare in 1623, is a comical interpretation of the
antithesis that exists between living in nature versus living in a society. The play addresses
philosophical dilemmas that are directly connect to the behavior of the characters. Throughout the
comparison of these two settings, the reader is exposed to various levels of human interaction. The
first one relates to how the characters participate as a community. And the second one approaches
familial relationships that demonstrate individual fluctuations depending of where the characters
interact. To capture this theme, the author relies on the use of juxtaposition and dynamic characters.
Consequently, Shakespeare highlights the irony of human behavior by exposing dynamic characters to
two different settings, The Forest of Arden and the Court. The play ultimately suggests that interacting
with nature creates a utopian society that contrasts with a hierarchical court, thus demonstrating how
the characters can reinvent themselves in roles that were inaccessible to them before. Initially, the play
begins by introducing a familial conflict between two brothers, Orlando and Oliver. Orlando is the
starting character of the play and his dialogue describes how his brother treats him. He states that, My
brother...keeps me rustically at home (4). He continues emphasizing the evilness of his brother s
treatment by mentioning that horses are bred better (4) and how animals on

Heroin And Its Effects On The Brain
Heroin, a chemical imposter, is an illegal, extremely addictive drug derived from opium. Heroin can
reach the brain by methods of injection, nasal inhalation, or smoked. In our brain there are many
receptor sites, each site specific for different neurotransmitters. In this paper I will refer to the opiate
receptor. Naturally, our brain is responsible for making endorphins, a natural opiate of the body. These
endorphins are the feel good chemical sensations in the brain, when we are exposed to pain or stress.
Heroin mimics the opium chemical, creating the effect of pleasure and euphoric feelings. I will look
into how heroin affects the cerebral cortex and how different genders perceive and treat the effects of
heroin. The opiates in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opioid is synthesized from morphine, and when entering the brain, heroin is converted back to
morphine. Upon entering, the once opioid, now morphine, binds to opioid receptors, specifically in the
brainstem. The brainstem is vital for controlling automatic processes vital for life, like blood pressure,
arousal, and respiration. These processes are how we continue to live; heroin use and overdose can
then lead to death by suppression of these vital life processes, such as suppression of breathing
(National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2014). While heroin undoubtedly affects our processes of living, it
also interrupts our sensations and perceptions. Users describe the feeling of heroin as a euphoric or
rush feeling. This rush reportedly last one to two minutes, where the actual high lasts hours. Other
sensations associated with heroin are reduction of anxiety and depression, safe and warm feelings, and
pain relief (Hartney, 2014). While heroin affects sensations, it also changes motor functions, such as
reaction times. In a study I examined, experimenters tested reaction times in heroin abusers of
different genders. In the experiment, researchers formulated two groups, one control and the other
heroin dependent currently in a withdrawal period; researchers choose participants specifically on
certain guidelines. For the experiment, participants were asked to focus on a visual stimulus on a

Cesare Beccaria And Jeremy Bentham s Aims Of Punishment In...
Introduction
During the eighteenth century, Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham formulated ideologies that
criticised the criminal laws in Britain and their focus on brutal penal punishment at the time. These
theories of the separate and silent systems dominated many prison designs in Australia in the
nineteenth century. St Helena Island was originally intended as a quarantine station beginning its build
in 1866, however, the Petrie Terrace gaol was becoming more overcrowded and the need for a new
prison became necessary. As a result, St Helena Island was declared a penal prison establishment on
May 14, 1867 by the Governor of Queensland. This penal establishment was located on a small island
5km off the coast of Brisbane and was self sufficient and profitable, considered to be a model high
security prison of the time. However, to maintain this self sufficiency, enforced isolation of the island
and harsh disciplinary actions are what varied St Helena Island penal aims of reform from Beccaria
and Bentham s ideologies in Britain.
Background
Throughout the eighteenth century in Britain, severe punishments such as public hangings and
floggings were used in an attempt to stop the growth of crime (Picard 2009). Although, towards the
end of the eighteenth century, Beccaria and Bentham s philosophies were impacting the way penal
punishment was perceived with many people angry at the punishment for small crimes such as theft.
These changes resulted in moving away from the death

Comparing Brookchin s Social Ecology And Biocentric Approach
Deep ecology is used to describe different environmental philosophies. Deep ecology is similar to
biocentric because it also believes that the flourishing of human and nonhuman life on earth has
intrinsic value. In addition, deep ecology sees that the diversity of life forms have value also. Deep
ecology and biocentric is very similar. Brookchin s Social Ecology The biocentric view believes that
humans are not superior to animals. That they are on the same hierarchy level and that we are all a part
of this integrative system. The biocentric view also believes that nature wasn t just intended to be
consumed by individuals. Brookchin s social ecology is concerned with hierarchy. Brookchin looks at
groups of people such as men over women and young over old or mind over body. He looks at the
belief that one holds power over the other in society. Since he thinks that eventually most hierarchy
societies will dominate so he want to get rid of all social hierarchies. Brookchin relates to biocentrism
by the way that he views each member of society has value. He also believes that humans aren t the
ones that are ruining the environment but the social hierarchies. However, biocentrism is nature based

The Trend Of Citizen Journalism
The Trend of Citizen Journalism a Critical Development in Journalism
With the advent of low cost consumer photography equipment, including camera phones, citizen
journalism has become more widespread. During newsworthy incidents many people may be present
with the capability to snap a picture. This capability of photography at the scene of a newsworthy
event may produce information that can be helpful and vital depending on the nature of the
newsworthy event. While safety of the photographer is a concern the same concerns exist for a
professional journalist. The potential benefit of a mass capture of information by many sources may
far outweigh the negatives. If the photographer feels that their safety is not in jeopardy and no un
necessary risks are taken then photography is acceptable. In today s society, it is up to the judgment
and common sense of the witness to record whatever even they are observing.
Safety is a serious and growing concern of today s society. Many rules and safety concerns exist today
which were nonexistent in the past. Research, observation, and an overwhelming amount of
information has resulted in far more rules and regulations for today s citizens. Another part of our
progressing society has been the advancement and adoption of technology in our daily lives. Just

Runninghead: CLINICAL ANALYSIS Assignment #4: Military Substance Abuse Prevention
Programs Gemma K. Vizcocho University of Southern California Professor Fred P. Stone, PhD,
LCSW April 24, 2017 Substance abuse in the military has been a problem throughout history. The
unique culture and stress experienced by military service members put them more at risk for substance
abuse. Drug and alcohol use has been an easy escape and a coping mechanism for those service
members who struggle to forget their traumatic war experiences and daily stressors (Jacobson et al.,
2008). According to the 2008 Department of Defense (DOD) Survey of Health Related Behaviors, 12

The rise in prescription drugs abuse is linked with the increased number of medications prescribed to
treat chronic pain associated with military service connected injuries. The DOD Survey of Health
related Behaviors Among Active Duty military personnel estimated prevalence rate of service
members actively using illicit drugs at 12 percent, prescription drug misuse at 11 percent, heavy
alcohol use at 20%, and tobacco, including smokeless, at 31 percent (Bray et al., 2010). Numerous
studies have addressed the attitudes and beliefs contributing to stigmatization of mental health issues
within military populations (Dickstein, Vogt, Handa, Litza, 2010). The development of these stigmas
is deeply associated in the traditions and culture that exists in the military. Ame and Cunradi (2005)
stated that workplace culture in the military could be a risk factor for heavy alcohol use or binge
drinking. Additionally, alcohol access is readily available at reduced prices on most military
installations. Multiple studies have also cited mental health stigma as one of the most prevalent that
exist in a military culture. Seeking treatment for substance abuse among service member is a form of
weakness. Rae Olmsted and colleagues compared perceptions of stigma among soldiers in treatment
and those who are not. The findings suggest that those in treatment have lower perceptions of stigma

two currencies in order that trade can effectively take place. When the price of two commodities from
two different countries is converted into one currency, the price of both commodities should be the
same. One way of determining the inter currency exchange rates is to carry out a PPP test. This test
will also help to prevent commodity traders from buying cheaply and selling at significantly higher
rates.
The basic measure of PPP is the law of one price: Pi=EiP*i, where Ei is the exchange rate, Pi = log
(CPI of the domestic country), and P*i= log (CPI of the foreign country). The equation means that the
good i should have same price when the exchange rate is applied to it. This is because there is an
arbitrage in exporting goods from the country that has a low price to a country that has a high price. In
the long term, prices when converted into the same currency at market exchange rates , should be
equal across economically integrated countries . (Voinea: 2013, p.6)
There are two ways to measure PPP. The first one is Absolute PPP (APPP) which states that the
exchange rate between two countries should be equal to the price of a basket of items in two countries
due to arbitrage, i.e. ∑▒p_i=E∑▒p_i^* , where E is the exchange rate. The second measure is

History of Social Media Growing up, children did not rely on technology to keep them entertained; it
was enjoyable to be outdoors and indoors where children play sports or invents games of their own.
Nowadays, one would most likely see children spending time on an iPad instead of riding a bike. For
young adults, they spend time and are always on their smart phones browsing through their social

technology talk did not begin until the 1970s when the Bulletin Board System, otherwise known as the
BBS, was introduced alongside CompuServe, a service that ...allowed members to share files and
access news and events (Digital Trends, 2014). But it was not until AOL, America Online, when
people really started to interact with others over the World Wide Web. They were best known for their
chat rooms where its members would be able to interact with anyone through messaging (Digital
Trends, 2014). By the 1990s, Yahoo and Amazon was brought up and the ...race to get a PC in every

Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology...
Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz
Introduction
The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being
that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to
the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z
(Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial
organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to
the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters
and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as
organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this
moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998).
In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony
princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound
love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into
battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to
be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the

Previous literature discuss policies and programs influencing marginal benefits and the cost of obtaining a college education, such as the Pell Grant (Seftor and Turner 2002, Rubin 2011, Kane 2003), financial aid and assistance programs (Cornwell, Mustard, and Sridhar 2006, Dynarski 2003, Kane 2007) and insurance provision (Cohodes et al. 2016, Miller and Wherry 2016). These studies provide evidence that increasing exposure to the information of assistantships and expanding eligibility of assistantship programs improves college enrollment. • 3. Phy Irradiation Essay Enhancement of the conductivity and dielectric properties of PVA/Ag nanocomposite films using γ irradiation. Kamal M. Abd El Kader , Wahib M. Attia , Ahmed .G. El Shamy * Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt Abstract The influence of gamma irradiation on the electrical and dielectric properties of AgNO3/ PVA films was investigated. The films were prepared by in situ chemical reduction techniques, then irradiated with different gamma doses (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 KGy). The content of the Ag in the PVA film were determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA), and were found to be 0.4 wt %. The films have been characterized through dielectric spectroscopy and I V measurements. As a result, the dielectric constant (ε) value decreases as the gamma irradiation doses increase. The conductivity of the films and dielectric loss (tan δ) of increases with increasing the gamma irradiation doses. The conductivity was found (σ = 4.9 x10−8 S m−1) for 125 KGy. Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism for all samples. Keywords: Dielectric properties, Dc conductivity, I V characteristics. *Corresponding author; A .G. It s the Great White Shark. Introduction: Hey everyone, I m Nino and today I will informing you all about the most fierce and feared predator in the sea. In this speech I will be discussing the evolution, the physiology, its ecological niche and propose a postulate for the future health and survival of the Great White Shark. The Great White is scientifically known as the Carcharodon carcharias and is considered a carnivorous killing machine which is at the top of its food chain. The Great White is ovoviviparous, which mean that the shark grows in an egg which is then hatched inside the mother. Once the shark pup is born it stays in the womb for a short period of time where the embryos feed on unfertilized eggs which is referred to as oophagy. The gestation period is the time that the eggs are in the womb until they hatch which is estimate to around 12 to 18 months. Lastly, is the litter size which ranges vastly for the Great White from two to ten pups. The new born measures to 5 feet (1.5 metres) and weighing 77 pounds (35Kg). However, the reason as to why the Great White doesn t breed as fast as other animals is because they have a slow growth rate to maturity and a low reproductive rate which is a worry for the survival of its kind in the future as they only live up to the age of 30 years old. Population: The estimation of the Great Whites Shark is set to be estimated at 2000 however recent studies indicate that this number has decreased by 50 % and the already threatened species is closer to extinction that was hoped for. To prevent this animal for becoming extinct a number of countries have vowed to protect the Great White Shark and they are South Afric, Namibia, USA, Australia and Malta. ... Where: Left from Southaptom, England, and was on its way to New York. Made stops in Cherbourg, France and sailed to Queenstown(now known as Cobh), Ireland. Sank in the North Atlantic. Who: Ship was created by White Star Liner. The architect was Thomas Andrews. Around 2,200 people were boarded on the ship. Edward John Smith was the appointed captain. What: The construction of the RMS Titanic started on March 31, 1909 in Belfast, North Ireland and cost $7.5 million. The man who designed it was a naval architect named Thomas Andrews. The ship was built to be the world s largest passenger steamship, along with two other ships, the Olympic and Britanic. Although the ship has always been known to many as unsinkable, it was actually never supposed to be advertised like that. Extra measures were put into the ship to insure safety, for example, if four watertight compartments out of the 16 were flooded, the ship would still stay afloat. Even though all these precautions were made, who would have ever thought that a single iceberg could cause such a huge devastation. The ship set sail on April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England and on its way to New York. The total passengers were around 2,200 people, including a crew of around 900. • 6. The Effects Of Dual Relations On The Therapeutic Alliance... In a psychotherapist s office, there are a multitude of occurrences that may prompt possible boundary crossings and violations some that may impact the therapeutic alliance or some that may enhance the relationship. Therefore, a psychotherapist must weigh the possible risks and benefits when coming across such instances that may engender a boundary crossing, a boundary violation, or a formation of a dual relationship. Although, not all boundary crossings or dual relationships are considered unethical, psychotherapists should still be weary of trespassing such ambiguous territory, especially when the trespassing can lead to exploitation of a client or impairment on the psychotherapist s professional judgment (Jensen, 2005). Thus, an analysis of decision making is warranted in Lying on the Couch (Yalom, 1997), where psychotherapists, Dr. Marshal Streider and Dr. Ernest Lash, facilitate a myriad of dual relationships and boundary crossings via self disclosure, without taking into consideration the implications this may have on the client. A dual relationship is defined by the American Psychological Association as one in which a psychotherapist is in not only a professional relationship with a client, but is also either in a non professional relationship with that client or in a non professional relationship with someone who is close to that client (APA, 2010). • 8. Gender Identity As An Axis Of Social Order Gender is considered an axis of social order. Its categorisation into masculinity and femininity is social constructed and maintained in everyday life (Clark and Page, 2005; Mackie, 1994). Gender identity is our innermost understanding of our self as male or female . Most people develop a gender identity that matched their biological sex (their body). Gender identity can be affected by, and is different from one society to another, depending on the way the members of society evaluate the role of females and males. Our gender identity can be influenced from the ethnicity of the group, their cultural background, and family values. Gender like social class and race can be used to socially categorize people and even lead to prejudice and discrimination. From day to day, continuous production of gender has been called doing gender (West and Zimmermann, 1987), meaning that gender is made by us in everyday lives in our interactions with others. The media does affects and influenced gender identity. For instance children are constantly bombarded with shows depicting gender stereotype models from toys marketed as for boys or girls, to children s TV programmes and shows. It is common for children s programmes to emphasize the role of the make hero who saves the weak female. Children interpret these messages as real life which shapes their reality, behaviour and expectations of their gender role. The American Culture Of Strict Conformity Accounts An American culture of strict conformity accounts for the rise of the phenomenon known as the Red Scare, as well as its widespread nature and prominent power. The Red Scare was complicated and a result of many different aspects of American culture. However the American culture in the 1950 s was one of strict conformity. This conformist society, created in the late 1940 s was created by many early discoveries that uncovered Communist members as Soviet spies. There arose a prevalent belief that anyone who thought differently was unpatriotic. This conformist nature of American society thus resulted in few organizations fighting for social justice. The Communist party therefore attracted a wide range of liberals from different aspects of life. Joseph McCarthy himself, along with many other governmental officials, was able to institute anti communist laws and practices under the pretense that an unwavering conformity was the American goal. The conformist nature of American society in the 1950 s created one of the most powerful anti communist crusades and allowed for a dominant Red Scare. McCarthyism rose to power so quickly in the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s because the perception of an internal Communist threat had just enough plausibility to be convincing . Americans feared that communists who would overthrow the government were a realistic threat . During World War Two there were many Soviet spies that had infiltrated many aspects of American covert operations. Alger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through symbols of innocence and corruption, Tyler demonstrates the importance of keeping one s head clear and focused while parenting, and that using common sense and logic is far more effective than relying on idealism and hope. The fact that the dark hair hangs around his face suggests (in Daisy s eyes) that Donny s out of control behavior only masks his true purity and innocence. In return, Daisy feels that her son still has the ability to be saved. The change in Donny s innocence, and his mother s idea that the perfect child exists, is directly correlated to Daisy s view on parenting throughout the story. It is Daisy s view on parenting that causes her to turn to Cal as a tutor for Donny in the hopes that he has all the answers. The United States shifted from arresting African Americans for using white only facilities to integrated schools all over the country. Influential individuals such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr helped pave the way for African Americans to live as equals to along with their white counterparts in the United States of America. What is Segregation In 1896 the United States Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutionally legal to segregate African Americans with their white counterparts. In the court case of Plessy v. Ferguson an African American man in Louisiana named Homer Plessy refused to follow the mandated Jim Crow laws which enforced that African Americans have to sit in a designated area when riding on a train. Plessy argued that his fourteenth amendment right was violated equal protection clause, which prohibits the states from denying equal protection of the laws to any person within their jurisdictions (Duignan, 2016). However, when Plessy s case moved to the Supreme Court they ruled the object of the Fourteenth Amendment was to create absolute equality of the two races before the law, such equality extended only so far as political and civil rights (e.g., voting and serving on juries), not social rights (e.g., sitting in a railway car one chooses) (McBride, n.d. ). We, as free beings, tend to abuse our rights of freedom and cause harm to others and ourselves. For the evil acts committed by man, there are great consequences. Suffering, above all, will be faced by God in order to challenge man to move freely toward moral perfection. For example I asked questions, like How many of you like to play board games and Have any of you ever played Parcheesi? (Sullivan 1). Another technique that I used in my introduction was telling a story. • 22. Use of Prosody in the Selected Poems of Gwendolyn Brooks... Poetry has a role in society, not only to serve as part of the aesthetics or of the arts. It also gives us a view of what the society is in the context of when it was written and what the author is trying to express through words. The words as a tool in poetry may seem ordinary when used in ordinary circumstance. Yet, these words can hold more emotion and thought, however brief it was presented. What makes a good poetry? It is not only in the idea or thought of what the author is trying to express. What makes a good poetry beautiful is in how the writer makes use of the words, lines, and spaces and indents. This strength is also a weakness that can lure me into a false sense of comfort in a time where action is desperately needs. Since my departure the unit has conducted a deployment to Afghanistan and is in the final stage of the reintegration. My brigade is suffering from a lack of mission commitment as a result of several different missions and minimal leadership involvement. In developing a new path for the 4th ABCT the key is to examine the problem, then develop a new vision, and finally use the Kotter s 8 Stage Model to anchor lasting improvement to the organization. The Positive Relationship Between Women And Soap Operas Soap operas over the years have ended up obtaining a bad stigma that even Modelski says if television is considered by some a vast wasteland, soap operas are thought to be the least nourishing spot in the desert (128). Most people would explain them as over dramatic, unrealistic, or even too feminine but Modelski tries to overcome the bad wrap soap operas have by shining light on the connection she has seen between women and soap operas. Her point is to not ignore but focus on what is feminine about soap operas (129). The found connection in this essay gives a little more of a positive view on soap operas and their viewers. Modelski at the start points out a disconnect between men and soap operas, giving the example of the Phil Donahue Show. While airing on the topic of handicapped Vietnam War Veterans and their experiences Donahue interrupted the conversation to assure his audience (comprised of almost entirely women) that he was not giving them soap opera. As though it may seem like a male just trying to reclaim his heterosexuality once again, which was in fact what was going on, it also shows the special place men put themselves. They place themselves above the soap operas, the gushy emotional and disconnect with the drama the soap operas contain. Soap operas weren t made for men, so they place it below them trying to make exceptions for themselves when they are giving a soap opera. Speaking from personal experience, I agree with the authors in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I believe it would be difficult to recover with students (as well as your own self esteem) starting out ill prepared. I really wish that I could have taken this course prior to serving as an instructor, or at the very least attended some kind of training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and McKeachie point out, is having a firm grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and relate to students appropriately. Although common sense should prevail, training in this area may help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack of understanding on the part of the instructor. I appreciate the timeline that chapter two offers in relation to preparing to teach three months in advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the future. This section highlights the importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides detailed instructions on how to stay on task. Persuasive Speech For Your Address In Our School Superintendent Crouse, Loveland Administration, and Loveland School Board Members, just last year you vied for us to obtain our own tennis courts, which I use every week. As a result of this, I hold very high regards and respect for you, and the fact that you care for all your students, and want to do all you can to improve our school lives. For this, I know you are welcome to new ideas, and I hope to be able to share mine without giving you the wrong impression, as I have no intent to offend you in any way. My focus as of this moment is to change the course scheduling for classes, so that we could have different weeks for different subjects, but still maintain a four block day. The idea came to me from my French class, on account of the fact that the French actually do this at their schools. In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of our classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks, however, we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know, there are some flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run into, would have to be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive order. To solve this problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their scheduling, which would happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just have to revert back to block scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do now. In result, the student would get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their remaining classes. Another problem that some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes, homework, or finals, because we can t all have time turners. Taking two weeks off could potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units really only take about two weeks to explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework wouldn t overlap unless it were some long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the extra time and effort to get through would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do better at the beginning of the ... • 31. Analysis Of As You Like It, A Play Written By William... As you like it, a play written by William Shakespeare in 1623, is a comical interpretation of the antithesis that exists between living in nature versus living in a society. The play addresses philosophical dilemmas that are directly connect to the behavior of the characters. Throughout the comparison of these two settings, the reader is exposed to various levels of human interaction. The first one relates to how the characters participate as a community. And the second one approaches familial relationships that demonstrate individual fluctuations depending of where the characters interact. To capture this theme, the author relies on the use of juxtaposition and dynamic characters. Consequently, Shakespeare highlights the irony of human behavior by exposing dynamic characters to two different settings, The Forest of Arden and the Court. The play ultimately suggests that interacting with nature creates a utopian society that contrasts with a hierarchical court, thus demonstrating how the characters can reinvent themselves in roles that were inaccessible to them before. Initially, the play begins by introducing a familial conflict between two brothers, Orlando and Oliver. Orlando is the starting character of the play and his dialogue describes how his brother treats him. He states that, My brother...keeps me rustically at home (4). The opioid is synthesized from morphine, and when entering the brain, heroin is converted back to morphine. Upon entering, the once opioid, now morphine, binds to opioid receptors, specifically in the brainstem. The brainstem is vital for controlling automatic processes vital for life, like blood pressure, arousal, and respiration. These processes are how we continue to live; heroin use and overdose can then lead to death by suppression of these vital life processes, such as suppression of breathing (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2014). While heroin undoubtedly affects our processes of living, it also interrupts our sensations and perceptions. Users describe the feeling of heroin as a euphoric or rush feeling. This rush reportedly last one to two minutes, where the actual high lasts hours. Other sensations associated with heroin are reduction of anxiety and depression, safe and warm feelings, and pain relief (Hartney, 2014). While heroin affects sensations, it also changes motor functions, such as reaction times. In a study I examined, experimenters tested reaction times in heroin abusers of different genders. • 34. Cesare Beccaria And Jeremy Bentham s Aims Of Punishment In... Introduction During the eighteenth century, Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham formulated ideologies that criticised the criminal laws in Britain and their focus on brutal penal punishment at the time. These theories of the separate and silent systems dominated many prison designs in Australia in the nineteenth century. St Helena Island was originally intended as a quarantine station beginning its build in 1866, however, the Petrie Terrace gaol was becoming more overcrowded and the need for a new prison became necessary. As a result, St Helena Island was declared a penal prison establishment on May 14, 1867 by the Governor of Queensland. This penal establishment was located on a small island 5km off the coast of Brisbane and was self sufficient and profitable, considered to be a model high security prison of the time. However, to maintain this self sufficiency, enforced isolation of the island and harsh disciplinary actions are what varied St Helena Island penal aims of reform from Beccaria and Bentham s ideologies in Britain. Background Throughout the eighteenth century in Britain, severe punishments such as public hangings and floggings were used in an attempt to stop the growth of crime (Picard 2009). • 40. The Theory Of Purchasing Power Parity David Ricardo came up with the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). PPP is an economic technique used to estimate the level of adjustment needed to arrive at an agreed exchange rate between two currencies in order that trade can effectively take place. When the price of two commodities from two different countries is converted into one currency, the price of both commodities should be the same. One way of determining the inter currency exchange rates is to carry out a PPP test. This test will also help to prevent commodity traders from buying cheaply and selling at significantly higher rates. The basic measure of PPP is the law of one price: Pi=EiP*i, where Ei is the exchange rate, Pi = log (CPI of the domestic country), and P*i= log (CPI of the foreign country). The equation means that the good i should have same price when the exchange rate is applied to it. This is because there is an arbitrage in exporting goods from the country that has a low price to a country that has a high price. In the long term, prices when converted into the same currency at market exchange rates , should be equal across economically integrated countries . (Voinea: 2013, p.6) There are two ways to measure PPP. The first one is Absolute PPP (APPP) which states that the exchange rate between two countries should be equal to the price of a basket of items in two countries due to arbitrage, i.e. ∑▒p_i=E∑▒p_i^* , where E is the exchange rate. • 46. Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology... Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz Introduction The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z (Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998). In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the General, kidnapping Princess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
