Hurricane Sandy, Mitigation And Recovery
HURRICANE SANDY, MITIGATION AND RECOVERY BY RIMA JUCIDA 2014, NEW YORK
Introduction As the Assistant Administrator of National Preparedness with the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (F.E.M.A.) when Super Storm Sandy made landfall on October 29, 2012, in
New Jersey it brought with it storm surges of more than 11 feet, killing more than 100 people
(including 43 in New York of which 34 occurred in Queens and Staten Island), destroying or
damaging thousands of homes, and leaving more than 8 million people without power. Immediately
following Hurricane Sandy, the damages done to the transportation infrastructure included
approximately 600 million gallons of water that penetrated the mass transit system and critical inter
city roads. States along the eastern seaboard were impacted from Florida to Maine, with the most
destruction occurring in New Jersey and New York. Prior to landfall, pre storm emergency
declarations were issued for Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia to
facilitate preparation. Following the storm, major disaster declarations were issued for Connecticut,
New York, New Jersey followed by Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and
New Hampshire. For this research paper, the areas in which I will concentrate; will be recovery,
rebuilding, hazard mitigation and looking at the lessons learnt. Methodology In order, to

The Impact of Electric Vehicles on Greenhouse Gas...
The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels
for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one
of the foremost drivers of climate change. The United States is responsible for one fourth of the world
s total greenhouse gas emissions, representing only 5% of the world population and it becomes the
world s single largest emitter of atmospheric greenhouse gasses (EPA, 2011) . Since 1970, the U.S.
share of net import of crude oil and consumption had been increased significantly and the majority of
the imported liquid based petroleum fuels were used for U.S. transportation sector (EIA, 2010). Today,
the transportation is the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the U.S. work towards an
economy wide CO2 cap and trade reduction program to reduce CO2 emissions to 17% below 2005
levels by 2020 (Morrow, Gallagher, Collantes, Lee, 2010).
As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary for
U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One such
service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation (also referred
to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of electrification of
personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG contribution to
global climate change.
In 2007, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council
(NRDC) made a collaborated study on penetration of plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and
published it as Environmental Assessment of Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Volume 1:
Nationwide Greenhouse Gas Emissions . The EPRI well to wheels study is based on the data which is
primarily collected from the 48 states of U.S.A. This study compared the well to wheels GHG
emissions per mile for three distinct vehicle types: Conventional gasoline

Analysis Of The Novel Loving Pedro Infante
In defining one s identity, many different factors are considered; such as one s nationality,
characteristic, personality, ability, experience, religion, and etc. Especially for those people who live in
America, so called country of immigration, has much more complicated identities than those Asian
country people where mixed people are rarely noticed. Thinking about the concept of identity, some
people easily categorized themselves as simple factors and terms which could describe their surface;
white, black, Asian, European, pretty, ugly, nice, mean and so on and so forth. And that is the most
point where majority people stopped to list their identities from exploring more in complicated range.
However, there are many people who dig more than common people; one great example would be
Denise Chavez, who is the author of the novel called Loving Pedro Infante, who kept asking herself
about her identity to approach more accurate and clear ideas. In her work, reader could see the
confusion of Tere, the main character of the novel, went through her life as Latin American female in
dealing with finding one s true identity and how she accept her as who she really is. Denise Chavez,
who is obviously Latin American lady, mirror her own life experience through the character she
created and introduce to readers about tough life she lived in America as Mejicana. The main character
of this novel have a clear understanding and strong idea about herself throughout the novel, even if

Rhetorical Analysis Mccarthy The Road
Nikita Patel
COMP 111.B12
02/28/2017
The language of the Road By McCarthy is scant yet poetic and morally inspiring. The text is
composed not of chapters but of discrete, punctuated paragraphs that mirror the movements of the
father and son on their journey. McCarthy s writing style reflects sparseness in that he chooses to write
in fragments and he keeps the father s and son s dialogue very choppy. Authors style of narrating this
story is very scrappy and sparse, which describes the infertile and miserable land through which the
man and boy are traveling. In the book we noticed, McCarthy makes less use of quotation and
apostrophes. There are no brakes through dialogues. Because this is a post apocalyptic story, the
exception of these punctuation basics might help as a way of author to show that in this new world,
fragments of the old world such as materialistic objects and humanity exists in scarce amount.
McCarthy s narrative voice is powerful and completely shapes the stories he tells. The story begins
with the man and boy making their journey along the road. The story is set in a post apocalyptic
world, date and place are unnamed. One can assume it is somewhere in America, most of the South,
because the man tells the boy that they re walking the state roads (43). Neither the man nor the boy is

Often it sounds like the Man (the father) is narrating the story. There are long paragraphs describing
the man s thoughts, memories, and perceptions. Then it will be a general discussion, but brief. It
employs a third person narration that is generally omniscient that allows the author a great deal of
freedom, and he can move from one character to another. He can change to more objective description
of setting. The Road employs the narrative shifts that emphasize the character s moral compass, as
well as the metaphorical nature of the so called

Music Education Importance
The Importance of Music Education
Plato the philosopher once said I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most
importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning. Funds have been
cut in more than 80 percent of U.S. school districts since 2008. The very first programs to go are often
disciplines such as music, art and foreign language. This is in order to create more funding for
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs, also known as STEM. Although STEM
programs in public education are important, schools should include more music education because, it
increases brain activity, increases creativity in problem solving, and improves test scores.
Increases in brain activity
Build more brain matter.
Music education can actually increase brain activity and growth. One of the major things that studying
music in school can do for the brain is to increase the white and gray matter in the brain. In an article
by Christopher Bergland outlining ten ways music education increases brain activity. He said this about
a case studied from the Journal of Neuroscience(2015)
The researchers found that people who began musical training early in life had stronger connections
between motor regions. When comparing brain structure, musicians who started early showed
enhanced white matter in the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve fibres that connects the left and right
motor regions of the brain.
This connection between the

Pursuing Dreams In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Dreams are worth pursuing if you are dedicated and determined to achieve your dream. The economy
has fallen and a lot of jobs aren t able to for people to make money. Everyone is desperate to get a job
and succeed, but you must sacrifice certain things to achieve your goal. It is worth pursuing your
dreams like curley s wife, george, and lennie. One reason in OMAM that shows your dreams is the
chances you can take. Curleys wife wants to be famous and free. The text says, but the guys said, i
coulda. If id went, i wouldn t be livin like this, you bet. (p.88 89). This shows that her dream is to be
famous. She said that she would be better off following her dream. Another way they show dreams is
that she doesn t want to be locked up by curley. In the text, it says, Well i ain t givin you no trouble.
Think i don t like to talk to somebody ever once in awhile? Think i like to stick around in that house
alla time? This shows her dream that she doesn t want to be controlled by curley and be locked up and
controlled by him all the time. This is one way that dreams are expressed and shown in the book Of
Mice And Men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lennie and george moved into the bunkhouse, and the living conditions were terrible. The bunks have
lice repellent because they aren t keeping the bunkhouse in good shape. This shows they are hard
working because they are really hard working and they are doing anything to achieve their goal.
Another way they are hard working is that they got a job. The text says, No he aint, but he sure a hell
of a good worker. Strong as a bull... He can do anything you tell him. (p. 22). This shows they are hard
working because he can do any task you throw at him and will not give up and will do his best no
matter how hard and difficult the job is. This is the second way dreams are expressed in the book Of

such as the Civil Rights Movement, the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the entry and war of
Vietnam. The sixties are known for being a controversial and politically challenge era, but there were
also many other activists that were important but lesser known. The sixties also represented the
movement of countercultures, identity politics and liberation movements. These challenges and
movements all summarized what is known as the era of the 60s.

The Black Panthers represented the ideologies of black power and that political and economic gains
can mainly be obtained through self empowerment and growth. The group was somewhat militant and
tended to cause tensions, sometimes resulting in jail time, however, the group did a lot their own
communities, such as free breakfast for children and educational programs for all.
Similar to the ideas of Black Power, the lesbian, gay, and the second wave feminist movements of the
1960 s were not ashamed instead they felt proud and empowered. The LGBT groups were urged to
engage with protests for radical changes while embracing and reducing criticism of who their sexual
preferences. The feminist ideologies of approaching these issues were to come out to family members,
friends, and colleagues, with no regret and living life openly as gay or lesbian. The Gay Liberation
movement had formed and radicalized in the late 60 s in response to the Stonewall riots of the 1960s,
in which a group of trans, lesbian, drag, and gay patrons resisted arrest during a raid in New York City.
After the Raid, many groups were formed such as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activist
Alliance. These were just some other examples of how identity policies were relevant in shaping the
culture of the 1960s.
The feminist movement was also a common factor in shaping the 1960s and an ongoing process.

All Shall Be Well Analysis
Throughout the book Julian explains her beliefs and understandings of Jesus Christ and the gift of
salvation that was given to his people. Julian has a strong emphasis on motherly love and how that
plays a role in why God chose to give salvation to his people. Julian also talks about what she believes
sin is, how love is a cause for many things, and how it all connects together. All Shall Be Well shows
how Julian believes what God has done for us was done not thru wrath but something else. The first
main thing that Julian talks about is what she believes sin and Hell are. Julian explains that she
believes that sin is no thing; it did not come from God and He is the cause of all things. She believes
that sin and Hell are a part of misreading reality unreality and self created. She believes that Hell is the
separation from God. Both Hell and sin cannot be a thing, according to Julian, because they cannot be
a part of God; He is all things. God is holy and good and both sin and Hell are evil; therefore, cannot
be a part of God s being, or even in his presence. They are both are present in the world only because
they are fitting. Sin and Hell make up nothing yet they are present because we have created it.
Secondly is the story of Love. Julian believes that the story of Jesus Christ is one of Love. She does
not believe it has anything to do with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes that the reason why we suffer is because we love. That without suffering there could and
would be no love. This can be explained by how Christ suffered, and still does, for us because he loves
us: and yet still he suffers for us (p. 96). This is her prime example on why suffering is a part of
loving. We could not love if there was no suffering, and that is why God lets us suffer. She believes
that it was done this way because a world where love is possible can only be possible if it is a world
where suffering is also a

Siddharth A Book Report
Knippel 1 Keaton Knippel Per. 2 World History Hesting 3/12/15 Siddhartha: A Book Report
Siddhartha Gautama is a cunning, intelligent man with a thirst for knowledge. He is expected to live
up to his fathers name, and everything appears to show him exceeding it. The only problem is,
Siddhartha s teachers and even his own father have not achieved enlightenment, and he strives to seek
enlightenment out within himself. Throughout the entire book, we follow Siddhartha as he discovers
what the meaning of life is, and just what life should be about. One day Siddhartha is seeking out the
inner fire within himself, while in others he simply waits and drifts upon the river of life, patiently
awaiting his fate to uncover the rest of the path. In the end, Siddhartha must give up all possessions,
and accept life for what life is. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and
the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss,
or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have life itself. (Walter
Anderson 1) Siddhartha is a story based on the Buddha, the figurehead of Buddhism. Buddha is a
Sanskrit word which translates to The Awakened One . This short and simple title has a much more in

him, because right away after he got the money he was going to leave. When a woman named Marian

opportunities for career growth, a very competitive compensation package, an industry leading
experience and a great reputation for social and environmental responsibility.

This method will help them find and appreciate possibilities together for pursuing enduring resolutions
that will positively impact communities, future generations and the company. It will also ensure that
both the company and the communities will always understand each other s interests, issues, needs
and concerns. Also, they support programs and institutions that contribute to building an educated and
engaged workforce7. This enriches the individual s skills and also provides skilled workforce for the
company as they will be operating in a knowledge and skill rich environment.
Suncor Energy s strategic involvement in corporate social responsibility is a very important factor for
me as a possible future employee. I believe a company who gives back to the community where it
operates will treat its employees with respect. Their involvement in corporate social responsibility will
create a community that will be fertile with employable talents in the future. This participation in
corporate social responsibility is seen as an advantage for the company as it will develop the
community in which it draws its resources, both human and material. It will also boost the company s
reputation and corporate image and subsequently attract quality applicants.

The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay
By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and
Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and
dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and
beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which
published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and
camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like minded scientists and thinkers in
San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with
success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing
interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p.
106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was
dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco.
Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes:
water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife.
Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national
reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in
Utah.

The History Of Human Language
The history of human language is long, complicated and somewhat controversial. Even the definitions
of the word language are varied slightly. The Merriam Webster dictionary states, Language is the
system of words or signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other: and one of the
systems of human language that are used and understood by a particular group of people: words of a
particular kind . Additionally, the American Heritage Dictionary defines language as, a communication
of thoughts and feelings through a system of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or
written symbols . Between these two definitions of language we can see how complicated the history
of human language actually is. The definitions vary based on the assumptions of whether the writer
believes language is more learned or instinctive behavior. The debates on the origin of language are
still going on today. There are two basic views represented in the definitions of language. The first
view is based on language being primarily a mental faculty of humans to learn languages and the
biological differences that are unique to the human brain. The second view is concentrated around the
idea that learning a language is natural. While other views are more centered on the structured
learning of formal signs.

Marginalia Billy Collins Summary
In the poem Marginalia , by Billy Collins takes a look at the marginal notes written in books. The
marginal notes are seen as a communication between the reader and the words in the book. The note
sometimes can be negative because they are a way of releasing frustration with the work, especially if
not well received, but sometimes they are a way of celebrating on the work. [The narrator asserts
students to join the conversation with author s words by writing marginal notes; however, one may say
it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly, it prevents one from
understanding the text.]
Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. They are,
Sometimes the notes are ferocious, (Collins) when the narrator refers to ferocious, This implies that
the previous owner wrote comments in discontent. When the notes symbolize discontent they prove to
be a distraction because people instead of focusing on the text will start reading the comments
therefore getting disoriented and not focusing the text. When he refers , If i could just get my hands on
you, Kierkegaard or Conor Cruise O Brien this implies he could be doing something better than
reading their works. It also means, as the new reader sees the text may see their writings on the margin
and wonder why the previous owner wrote that and may get lost or impede him from understanding
and acknowledging the text and interpret the text from the actual meaning.

A Doll s House And A Dolls House Essay
Commonly, we see female characters in literature completely at the discipline of their male
counterparts. However, some females challenge the notion that subservience to the patriarchy is
absolutely necessary . A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and Thomas Hardy s Far from the Madding
Crowd both create interesting female characters in Nora Helmer and Bathsheba Everdene respectively.
Whether these women are truly either independent or dependent, is ambiguous in their pieces of
literature. Authors own political and social views often infuse their writing, as Hardy frequently
commented on the hypocrisy of Victorian attitudes to women. However, in contrast, Ibsen s play was
received very differently to how it was intended, as he said I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Whether Bathsheba and Nora need strong men in order fulfil their basic, psychological and self
fulfilment needs is a concept, which whilst the society of the time would have given a definitive yes ,
is far more complex. Far from the Madding Crowd s Bathsheba s basic needs (her psychological need
for food and air, and her safety needs of shelter and law), in the beginning of the novel are fragile.
Bathsheba is residing with her Aunt, and they are not rich enough to pay someone for labour, which
exemplifies how women struggled without a man to do these things . However, as soon as Chapter 5
Bathsheba had left Norcombe to inherit her Uncles farm. Whilst it was legal for Bathsheba to inherit
this land, it was highly uncommon. Through this farm, Bathsheba had the potential to account for her
own survival, without a strong male. This is reinforced by how, in chapter 10, she announces the
bailiff is dismissed for thieving and that she has formed a resolution to have no bailiff at all, but to
manage everything with [her] own head and hands to which the men delivered an audible breath of
amazement , highlighting how extraordinary Bathsheba s independence is. On the other hand,
Bathsheba owns and maintains the farm through her inheritance from a man, and her employment of
men. Without her uncle giving her the farm or her workers labouring, Bathsheba certainly would not
have been able to survive independently. Oak, although was only an employee of

There is one particular statement that Rivera makes that was interesting, which is that memories are
represented in Rocio s home by these forgotten objects, these fragments of past lives (7). She also
brings up that the past in Shooting Stars is best described as a memory that is constantly changing.
Rocio is writing about Diana and Eloisa as she sees them as an adult instead of the insecure girl she
once was. Rivera also brings up the importance of girls like Eloisa and Diana. One of the first things
Rivera brings up the girls importance to Rocio. To Rocio, Eloisa and Diana were the embodiment of
womanhood. They stood for everything that Rocio desired to be. They were beautiful, confident, and
mysterious. Rivera also brings up the fact that even the girls names were created to exemplify beauty.
For example, Eloisa is compared to the goddess Venus. Diana is named for the goddess of the moon.
The names were created on purpose to show the girls beauty and mystery. In the end, though, Rivera
states that Chavez twists the plot around by showing Diana when she gets older. Diana is no longer
this beautiful goddess. She is, at the end, a wrinkled, moustached, old maid. In the end, Rocio no
longer sees these girls as romantic figures to be adored, but as real women with tragic lives. Another
important point that Rivera brings up is Chavez s unique literary style of meshing together the English

Margaret Sanger s Planned Parenthood
Margaret Sanger s efforts for women s rights lead to the founding of Planned Parenthood in 1916.
Initially she grew up in a large poverty stricken family of eleven, which greatly impacted her stance on
reproductive privileges. Her mother had a total of eighteen pregnancies, seven in which resulted in
miscarriages, dying at age 43. Sanger decided she did not want to suffer the same way her mother did,
so she had a plan. Later on, she went on to be a nurse for women who suffered from pregnancy
symptoms during a time that had little to no medical care for the poor. After a while of doing this,
Sanger saw and heard things that in her mind, needed to be changed. From thereon, she had created a
newspaper that focused on the importance of contraceptives

The Technique Of Energy Harvesting From Radio Signals
1. Introduction:
The technique of energy harvesting from radio signals has received much attention in various
applications in the recent time, such as radio frequency identification systems [1] and body sensor
networks with medical implants [2]. According to the 2010 wireless smart phone customer satisfaction
study from J. D. Power and Associates, the iPhone received top marks in every category except for
battery life. The latest report in China also reflects the same problem. Based on the data, up to 60% of
the users complained that battery endurance was the greatest hurdle when using 3G services. (Daquan
Feng, 2013) In recent year, a new concept of energy harvesting from wireless signal is the subject of
interest of many researchers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique for Energy
harvesting and information transfer. OFDM is most efficient and noise resistant scheme of modulation
in wireless communication technology. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a
method of digital modulation in which a signal is split into several narrowband channels at different
frequencies. OFDM is used in applications such as digital television and audio broadcasting, DSL
Internet access, wireless networks, 3G and 4G mobile communications. (Yair, 2006)
This report would throw light on the different methodology approached for the wireless energy
harvesting for project. Further, it would emphasize the work done during the first semester on the
project. Moreover, it would highlight the line of action to be taken in order to complete the project in
the next semester.
2. Literature Review:
Wireless energy harvesting is an emerging topic of interest for communication and signal processing
researchers. Varshney first proposed the idea of transmitting information and energy simultaneously in
[2] assuming that the receiver is able to decode information and harvest energy simultaneously from
the same received signal. For the proposed receiver, in [4] the authors used a capacity energy function
to study the fundamental performance tradeoff for

Stereotypes In Beowulf
A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself is a quote, by Joseph
Campbell that describes an epic hero. One story about an epic hero that everyone can learn from is the
story of Beowulf. Beowulf is an old English poem which was translated by Burton Raffel. The story
plot is about a man named Beowulf, whom with his men fight against evil and never lose. There are
many lessons that are learned though out this story. Every high school student should read Beowulf
because it teaches students about the stereotype of an epic hero, shows how language has changed and
will teach them to think of others first. The first reason that Beowulf should be read by all students is
because it teaches the character traits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is sad to say, but many people have started putting and thinking of themselves first. By reading
Beowulf, people will realize the importance of putting others before oneself. Also, when the character,
Beowulf, first arrives with his men to defeat Grendel which is the monster he tells the man who stops
them who his father and lord are and what his goal is before he even says his name. This shows that he
just wants to help out of good will, not to just get his name around. This caused others to respect him
more. So if students reading this piece of literature learn why it is important though the story of
Beowulf actions, then maybe they will start to do that as well.
Beowulf is one poem that everyone should read, it helps students understand the importance of an epic
hero, different ways of language and putting others first. Beowulf can give information that students
can use in their daily lives. This poem teaches the basics on so many good lessons. Reading different
types of stories like Beowulf will increase students knowledge so much more than before they read the
adventure stories. It has been proven by many others that reading will increase knowledge, improve
memory and cause people to have better writing

Wuthering Heights And Thrushcross Knighte Analysis
Is Wuthering Heights as nice a place as Thrushcross Grange? (Brontë 329). That seems to be the
question quickly answered in the start of the novel, Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë, and the
answer is very clearly: No. In Wuthering Heights, contrast between the two main and unique places,
Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, helps to define and separate the lifestyles of the main
characters. Wuthering Heights is distinctively more dark and chaotic and is full of troubles that make
it seem a much darker place, while Thrushcross Grange is a brighter and more peaceful house. Brontë
is able to use the two contrasting places to help support the drastically different character personalities,
whether it be troublesome Catherine or her peaceful and calmer husband, Edgar. The use of the
drastically different places, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, are vital to the novel because
they offer contrast in the physical houses and define the people living in them and are meaningful to
the novel by providing a deep and drastic connection to each place for the reader to separate and
understand the characters thoroughly.
The difference between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange is literally like night and day in
the sense of drastic environmental differences that lead to a vivid contrast between the two places. As
Lockwood first comes upon Wuthering Heights, he was greeted by the dark contrast from the
surrounding town of Gimmerton. Wuthering Heights is notably

Women Seeing the World through a Different Lens in Three...
At the time Virginia Woolf wrote The Years and Three Guineas, there were many differences between
men and women, one of which was education. Most women were not educated, which prevented them
from entering into agency. Women allowed themselves to be played by history. In order for them to
change a world that was dominated by men, women needed to refuse what history said was their
essence, and rather, use that essence to create critical ways of being in the world. The photograph, a
crudely colored photograph of your world as it appears to us who see it from the threshold of the
private house; through the shadow of the veil that St. Paul still lays upon your eyes; from the bridge
which connects the private house with the world of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, women believed that they had no choice other than to side with men. They were dependent
on their fathers or husbands income, which prevented them from freedom. Although women did not
work as judges, lawyers, or any other job in the public world, they worked at home. Women were
wives, mothers, and daughters, and without them, the state would collapse and fall to pieces, without
whose work your sons, Sir, would cease to exist, (Three Guineas 54).
Although this was unjust, men were not entirely at fault. Married men got paid twice that of a
bachelor. Half of men s salary belonged to their wives, but women had little access to their husband s
salary. We may assume that the wife of an educated man has as much money to spend, (Three Guineas
55). Then why, didn t women spend that money on pleasures that she enjoyed? Because men made the
money, women allowed them to decide how it should be spent. She lays out thousands and thousands
of pounds upon clubs to which her own sex in not admitted; upon racecourses where she may not ride;
upon colleges from which her own sex is excluded. She pays a huge bill annually for wine which she
does not drink and for cigars which she does not smoke, (Three Guineas 56). Once all of the bills were
paid, women should have spent their share on causes that were important to them, on something that
would benefit their own well being, such as education. Without their own

Eukaryotic Theory
Introns are nucleotide sequences universal amongst the Eukarya domain. Reconstructive models of
maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common
ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of
functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is suggestive
of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many valuable roles
this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To understand their
widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to discern the
evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural ... Show more content

Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial endosymbiosis
and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a mechanism consistent
with the high levels of GpII in some α proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly, 2005) and the ability of yeast
mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996).
Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the α proteobacteria coupled with its bacterial nature of
jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber
et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the host cell which lacked the necessary control
mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the proportion of introns in the LECA genome is
considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1).
Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins
showed that intron positions were conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent
between all eukaryotes. However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host.
Principally, random and aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential
coding sequences within the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist.
Additionally, splicing reactions require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the
spliceosome, comprised of over 150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in
which would cause broad harm to the cell (Chorev Carmel,

Essay on Ability Grouping
Ability grouping is a widely spread practice used among many educators today. Between class
grouping is by far one of the most commonly used types of ability grouping. The goal of this grouping
is for each class to be made up of students who are homogeneous in standardized intelligence or
achievement test scores (Snowman, Biehler). In this type of grouping, the schools separate their
students into different classes or courses. Between class ability grouping is where students spend most
of the day in ability groups and use the same or similar curriculum substantially adjusted to their
ability levels (Ability Grouping 3). For example, in elementary schools, students from the same grade
levels may be grouped by ability for reading and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This impacts their achievement level and in turn affects their self esteem. Such consequences cause
the students to lose interest in school, and in the long run, many of these students begin to drop out.
Although there are certain benefits to between class ability grouping, they are outweighed by the
negative effects this type of grouping can produce. Ultimately, the focus should not be on how to label
students, but rather, on the quality of the education the students can receive while working with peers
in specific subject areas.
Regrouping is another type of ability grouping. Students of the same age, ability and grade, but from
different classrooms, are brought together for a specific subject such as reading or math. According to
their goals, activities, and individual needs, the students are grouped and then regrouped again. There
are two common regrouping strategies: teacher led groups and student led groups.
Teacher led groups are effective in introducing material, summing up the conclusion made by the
groups, and meeting the common needs of the groups. These groups typically include whole class,
small group, and individual instruction. Whole class instruction allows the teacher to introduce new
material to the entire class. It also allows students to use their prior knowledge to form new
acquisitions. Small groups can provide opportunities for working with students who have common
needs, such as reinforcement or enrichment (Valentino, 2000, 1).

Fitness Research Papers
What is the most effect way to increase your physical fitness and improve your health? In the 1970 s
jogging became a popular form of fitness. The 1980 s brought us Jane Fonda, Jazzersize, and other
forms of dance aerobics; while Billy Blanks had us punching and kicking our way to health with Tae

Body franchise. The Army still clings to the idea that running, push ups and sit ups are the only way to
measure physical fitness; while Cross Fit fanatics prefer to lift hard and heavy. There is so many ways
to train, so many fads to wade through in the search for a technique that works. The conflicting
research and opinions when it comes to physical training and overall health is confusing at best.
Mostly, the overwhelming amount of information, techniques, programs, workouts, self proclaimed
YouTube experts, and google search results leave the average American not knowing where to start or
what kind of training would move them towards their goals. One of the most ardently debated fitness
topics is which form of cardiovascular training is most effective for weight loss; steady state cardio or
high intensity interval training. As a Drill Sergeant, there is always limited time to physically train; an
issue most soldiers have, particularly those in combat zones. Limited by time and equipment, but
driven by the constant need to remain in top physical condition, soldiers are always searching

What Is The Theme Of Anger
Anger is an emotional state to express feelings such as indignation that may range in intensity from
mild irritation to intense fury and rage, according to Charles Spielberger, a psychologist who
specializes in the study of anger. Anger can destroy man s life and make him live in misery forever, so
anger has been fed by feelings of disappointment, hurt, rejection, and embarrassment. Anger may
consider useful for psychopaths in order to express their inside feelings. The expression of anger can
be through active or passive behaviors. In the case of active emotion, the angry person lashes out
verbally or physically at a target. When anger is a passive emotion it is characterized by silent sulking,
passive aggressive behavior, hostility and tension (Clausen 7). Anger can also be caused as irritation
escalates during exposure to an annoyance.
Moreover, Anger has three components, physical reactions, behavior, and mismanaged anger. Anger is

Atonement Research Paper
Worship and sin cannot coexist. For example, before the fall, Adam and Eve did not need to acquire
atonement to worship God, but instead lived in the Garden of Eden with Him. The Temple and
Tabernacle were the places where man encountered God, so they served as vital religious components
of Judaism. In addition to atonement, tabernacle and temple, further elements of Old Testament
worship include scripture, singing, and covenant renewal/remembrance. This essay will go over Old
Testament worship practices and the significance of these practices. Atonement is the physical ritual
conveying a sentiment of repentance. In the Old Testament, atonement was the method used in order
to attain purity and restore relationship with God and the community of believers through a sacrificial
statement. We see this demonstrated in time of the creation and fall, the patriarchs, the
exodus/law/conquest, the kings, and the post exile (Lecture 1, 2016). There are numerous types of
sacrifices that can be found in Leviticus: burnt offering (1:3 17), associated cereal offerings (2:1 16),
peace offerings (3:1 17), sin offering (4:1 5:13) and guilt offering (5:14 6:7) (Peterson, 1993, p.38).
The sacrificial system in the Old Testament to atone for unintentionally and intentionally committed
sins and social failures that caused Israelites to become unclean so that they can once again join the
worshipping community of God (Leviticus 4:20; 5:16 18). These sacrifices acted in some cases as

The Veldt, By Ray Bradbury
When walking through a college campus in 2016, a person can see how much technology consumes a
peoples life. One can see people texting on their phones, riding on hover boards, and using iPads to
order food at a restaurant. What used to be inconceivable in the 1950s is now the norm 66 years later
The science fiction short story The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, was written in the 1950s, yet gives the
reader perspective on the dangers of advancing technology as a prophecy of our future. In The Veldt,
the two parents, Lydia and George, are affluent and spoil their children, Peter and Wendy with
technology, which ultimately leads to the parents death. Using Lois Tyson s critical theory of
structuralism, this paper will give perspective on the science fiction aspect of the story described
through the setting.
While analyzing the story, the reader can get a sense of the family s wealth. They live in a lavish home
that does everything for them. The house cooks, cleans, and transports each person to whichever room

Architect of the Byzantine Legacy Essay examples
Architect of the Byzantine Legacy
Byzantine Emperor Justinian was the bold architect of a revitalized Byzantine Empire that would
leave a lasting legacy for Western Civilization. As much of Europe entered the Dark Ages, Justinian s
vision of a restored Roman Empire would reverse the decline of the Byzantine Empire and lay a firm
foundation that would allow the Byzantine Empire to survive for centuries to come.
Justinian, whose full name was Flavius Anicius Julianus Justinianus, was born around 483 AD at
Tauresium in Illyricum in the Balkans of present day central Europe. He was the nephew of Byzantine
Emperor Justin, the son of Justin s sister Vigilantia (Fortescue).

Rome would become the capital of the Empire s western territories, while the city of Byzantium
(present day Istanbul in modern day Turkey) was renamed Constantinople and made the new capital of
the Roman Empire (Bury 69).
From its peak under the Roman Emperors Constantine and Diocletian in the 300 s, Rome importance
in the Empire began to shrink. The commercial and cultural growth of the provinces in Greece and the
Near East had eclipsed the once robust culture of Rome, where growing trade with the Far East was
creating new wealth. The Christian emperors felt more at home in the East, where Christianity, the
new official religion of the Roman Empire, was stronger and closer to its roots in Palestine, rather than
in the more pagan West (Norwich 11).
Forced from their homelands in Central and Eastern Europe by the savagery of the invading Huns,
Germanic barbarian tribes invaded the western territories of the Empire. Under constant attack, the
western Empire began to shrink, losing centuries worth of territorial gains in Britain, Gaul, Spain, and
North Africa to the barbarian tribes, while the eastern territories remained strong, vital and secure. In
378, they dealt the Roman Empire a major blow at the Battle of Adrianople (now Edirne in modern
day European Turkey), near Constantinople. In

The Political Ideology That Best Represents My Views
The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an ideology that
emphasizes, cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the
economy, and individuals rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions (Morone
Kersh, 2014, p. 37). In other words, liberalism promotes government assistance for individuals in need
as well as protect every individual s rights.
One aspect of my life that has shaped my political views is my religious background. I grew up in a
Baptist family, and used to go to church regularly. As I got older, I started going to church less and less
because the things my pastor said made me feel very uncomfortable. At the time, I did not understand
why I felt so uncomfortable and it was not until I got older that I realized why I felt the way I did.
Majority of the time, my pastor said things that had sexist and homophobic undertones. Despite being
in a holy place, I spent the duration of my time as a member of the church feeling disconnected from
everything, which eventually led to me breaking ties with the church completely.
My family s financial background also helped in shaping my views. When I was younger, my family
received financial assistance from the government in the form of CHIPs and food stamps. I was too
young to remember how food stamps benefited my family, but I do remember the many ways in which
CHIPs helped us out. For example, I grew up having terrible

States along the eastern seaboard were impacted from Florida to Maine, with the most destruction occurring in New Jersey and New York. Prior to landfall, pre storm emergency declarations were issued for Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia to facilitate preparation. Following the storm, major disaster declarations were issued for Connecticut, New York, New Jersey followed by Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and New Hampshire. • 3. The Impact of Electric Vehicles on Greenhouse Gas... The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one of the foremost drivers of climate change. The United States is responsible for one fourth of the world s total greenhouse gas emissions, representing only 5% of the world population and it becomes the world s single largest emitter of atmospheric greenhouse gasses (EPA, 2011) . Since 1970, the U.S. share of net import of crude oil and consumption had been increased significantly and the majority of the imported liquid based petroleum fuels were used for U.S. transportation sector (EIA, 2010). Today, the transportation is the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the U.S. work towards an economy wide CO2 cap and trade reduction program to reduce CO2 emissions to 17% below 2005 levels by 2020 (Morrow, Gallagher, Collantes, Lee, 2010). As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary for U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One such service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation (also referred to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of electrification of personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG contribution to global climate change. In 2007, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) made a collaborated study on penetration of plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and published it as Environmental Assessment of Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Volume 1: Nationwide Greenhouse Gas Emissions . The EPRI well to wheels study is based on the data which is primarily collected from the 48 states of U.S.A. This study compared the well to wheels GHG emissions per mile for three distinct vehicle types: Conventional gasoline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Novel Loving Pedro Infante In defining one s identity, many different factors are considered; such as one s nationality, characteristic, personality, ability, experience, religion, and etc. Especially for those people who live in America, so called country of immigration, has much more complicated identities than those Asian country people where mixed people are rarely noticed. Thinking about the concept of identity, some people easily categorized themselves as simple factors and terms which could describe their surface; white, black, Asian, European, pretty, ugly, nice, mean and so on and so forth. And that is the most point where majority people stopped to list their identities from exploring more in complicated range. However, there are many people who dig more than common people; one great example would be Denise Chavez, who is the author of the novel called Loving Pedro Infante, who kept asking herself about her identity to approach more accurate and clear ideas. In her work, reader could see the confusion of Tere, the main character of the novel, went through her life as Latin American female in dealing with finding one s true identity and how she accept her as who she really is. • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Mccarthy The Road Nikita Patel COMP 111.B12 02/28/2017 The language of the Road By McCarthy is scant yet poetic and morally inspiring. The text is composed not of chapters but of discrete, punctuated paragraphs that mirror the movements of the father and son on their journey. McCarthy s writing style reflects sparseness in that he chooses to write in fragments and he keeps the father s and son s dialogue very choppy. Authors style of narrating this story is very scrappy and sparse, which describes the infertile and miserable land through which the man and boy are traveling. In the book we noticed, McCarthy makes less use of quotation and apostrophes. There are no brakes through dialogues. Because this is a post apocalyptic story, the exception of these punctuation basics might help as a way of author to show that in this new world, fragments of the old world such as materialistic objects and humanity exists in scarce amount. McCarthy s narrative voice is powerful and completely shapes the stories he tells. The story begins with the man and boy making their journey along the road. The story is set in a post apocalyptic world, date and place are unnamed. One can assume it is somewhere in America, most of the South, because the man tells the boy that they re walking the state roads (43). Neither the man nor the boy is given a ... It employs a third person narration that is generally omniscient that allows the author a great deal of freedom, and he can move from one character to another. He can change to more objective description of setting. The Road employs the narrative shifts that emphasize the character s moral compass, as well as the metaphorical nature of the so called ... Music Education Importance The Importance of Music Education Plato the philosopher once said I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning. Funds have been cut in more than 80 percent of U.S. school districts since 2008. The very first programs to go are often disciplines such as music, art and foreign language. This is in order to create more funding for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs, also known as STEM. Although STEM programs in public education are important, schools should include more music education because, it increases brain activity, increases creativity in problem solving, and improves test scores. Increases in brain activity Build more brain matter. Music education can actually increase brain activity and growth. One of the major things that studying music in school can do for the brain is to increase the white and gray matter in the brain. In an article by Christopher Bergland outlining ten ways music education increases brain activity. He said this about a case studied from the Journal of Neuroscience(2015) The researchers found that people who began musical training early in life had stronger connections between motor regions. When comparing brain structure, musicians who started early showed enhanced white matter in the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve fibres that connects the left and right motor regions of the brain. • 8. Pursuing Dreams In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Dreams are worth pursuing if you are dedicated and determined to achieve your dream. The economy has fallen and a lot of jobs aren t able to for people to make money. Everyone is desperate to get a job and succeed, but you must sacrifice certain things to achieve your goal. It is worth pursuing your dreams like curley s wife, george, and lennie. One reason in OMAM that shows your dreams is the chances you can take. Curleys wife wants to be famous and free. The text says, but the guys said, i coulda. If id went, i wouldn t be livin like this, you bet. (p.88 89). This shows that her dream is to be famous. She said that she would be better off following her dream. Another way they show dreams is that she doesn t want to be locked up by curley. In the text, it says, Well i ain t givin you no trouble. Think i don t like to talk to somebody ever once in awhile? Think i like to stick around in that house alla time? This shows her dream that she doesn t want to be controlled by curley and be locked up and controlled by him all the time. The text says, No he aint, but he sure a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull... He can do anything you tell him. (p. 22). Similar to the ideas of Black Power, the lesbian, gay, and the second wave feminist movements of the 1960 s were not ashamed instead they felt proud and empowered. The LGBT groups were urged to engage with protests for radical changes while embracing and reducing criticism of who their sexual preferences. The feminist ideologies of approaching these issues were to come out to family members, friends, and colleagues, with no regret and living life openly as gay or lesbian. The Gay Liberation movement had formed and radicalized in the late 60 s in response to the Stonewall riots of the 1960s, in which a group of trans, lesbian, drag, and gay patrons resisted arrest during a raid in New York City. After the Raid, many groups were formed such as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activist Alliance. These were just some other examples of how identity policies were relevant in shaping the culture of the 1960s. The feminist movement was also a common factor in shaping the 1960s and an ongoing process. Starting from the We Can Do It! poster starring Rosie the Riveter in 1943 to merging ... • 10. All Shall Be Well Analysis Throughout the book Julian explains her beliefs and understandings of Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation that was given to his people. Julian has a strong emphasis on motherly love and how that plays a role in why God chose to give salvation to his people. Julian also talks about what she believes sin is, how love is a cause for many things, and how it all connects together. All Shall Be Well shows how Julian believes what God has done for us was done not thru wrath but something else. The first main thing that Julian talks about is what she believes sin and Hell are. Julian explains that she believes that sin is no thing; it did not come from God and He is the cause of all things. She believes that sin and Hell are a part of misreading reality unreality and self created. She believes that Hell is the separation from God. Both Hell and sin cannot be a thing, according to Julian, because they cannot be a part of God; He is all things. God is holy and good and both sin and Hell are evil; therefore, cannot be a part of God s being, or even in his presence. They are both are present in the world only because they are fitting. Sin and Hell make up nothing yet they are present because we have created it. Secondly is the story of Love. Julian believes that the story of Jesus Christ is one of Love. The only problem is, Siddhartha s teachers and even his own father have not achieved enlightenment, and he strives to seek enlightenment out within himself. • 14. The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like minded scientists and thinkers in San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p. 106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco. Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes: water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife. Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in Utah. ... The Merriam Webster dictionary states, Language is the system of words or signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other: and one of the systems of human language that are used and understood by a particular group of people: words of a particular kind . Additionally, the American Heritage Dictionary defines language as, a communication of thoughts and feelings through a system of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or written symbols . Between these two definitions of language we can see how complicated the history of human language actually is. The definitions vary based on the assumptions of whether the writer believes language is more learned or instinctive behavior. The debates on the origin of language are still going on today. There are two basic views represented in the definitions of language. The first view is based on language being primarily a mental faculty of humans to learn languages and the biological differences that are unique to the human brain. The second view is concentrated around the idea that learning a language is natural. While other views are more centered on the structured learning of formal signs. The marginal notes are seen as a communication between the reader and the words in the book. The note sometimes can be negative because they are a way of releasing frustration with the work, especially if not well received, but sometimes they are a way of celebrating on the work. [The narrator asserts students to join the conversation with author s words by writing marginal notes; however, one may say it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly, it prevents one from understanding the text.] Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. Rocio is writing about Diana and Eloisa as she sees them as an adult instead of the insecure girl she once was. Rivera also brings up the importance of girls like Eloisa and Diana. One of the first things Rivera brings up the girls importance to Rocio. To Rocio, Eloisa and Diana were the embodiment of womanhood. They stood for everything that Rocio desired to be. They were beautiful, confident, and mysterious. Rivera also brings up the fact that even the girls names were created to exemplify beauty. For example, Eloisa is compared to the goddess Venus. Diana is named for the goddess of the moon. The names were created on purpose to show the girls beauty and mystery. That seems to be the question quickly answered in the start of the novel, Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë, and the answer is very clearly: No. In Wuthering Heights, contrast between the two main and unique places, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, helps to define and separate the lifestyles of the main characters. In order for them to change a world that was dominated by men, women needed to refuse what history said was their essence, and rather, use that essence to create critical ways of being in the world. Reconstructive models of maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is suggestive of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many valuable roles this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To understand their widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to discern the evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial endosymbiosis and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a mechanism consistent with the high levels of GpII in some α proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly, 2005) and the ability of yeast mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996). Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the α proteobacteria coupled with its bacterial nature of jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the host cell which lacked the necessary control mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the proportion of introns in the LECA genome is considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1). Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins showed that intron positions were conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent between all eukaryotes. However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host. Principally, random and aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential coding sequences within the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist. Additionally, splicing reactions require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the spliceosome, comprised of over 150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in which would cause broad harm to the cell (Chorev Carmel, ... Between class grouping is by far one of the most commonly used types of ability grouping. In this type of grouping, the schools separate their students into different classes or courses. Ultimately, the focus should not be on how to label students, but rather, on the quality of the education the students can receive while working with peers in specific subject areas. Regrouping is another type of ability grouping. Students of the same age, ability and grade, but from different classrooms, are brought together for a specific subject such as reading or math. According to their goals, activities, and individual needs, the students are grouped and then regrouped again. There are two common regrouping strategies: teacher led groups and student led groups. Teacher led groups are effective in introducing material, summing up the conclusion made by the groups, and meeting the common needs of the groups. These groups typically include whole class, small group, and individual instruction. Whole class instruction allows the teacher to introduce new material to the entire class. The Army still clings to the idea that running, push ups and sit ups are the only way to measure physical fitness; while Cross Fit fanatics prefer to lift hard and heavy. There is so many ways to train, so many fads to wade through in the search for a technique that works. The conflicting research and opinions when it comes to physical training and overall health is confusing at best. Mostly, the overwhelming amount of information, techniques, programs, workouts, self proclaimed YouTube experts, and google search results leave the average American not knowing where to start or what kind of training would move them towards their goals. • 31. Atonement Research Paper Worship and sin cannot coexist. For example, before the fall, Adam and Eve did not need to acquire atonement to worship God, but instead lived in the Garden of Eden with Him. The Temple and Tabernacle were the places where man encountered God, so they served as vital religious components of Judaism. In addition to atonement, tabernacle and temple, further elements of Old Testament worship include scripture, singing, and covenant renewal/remembrance. This essay will go over Old Testament worship practices and the significance of these practices. Atonement is the physical ritual conveying a sentiment of repentance. In the Old Testament, atonement was the method used in order to attain purity and restore relationship with God and the community of believers through a sacrificial statement. We see this demonstrated in time of the creation and fall, the patriarchs, the exodus/law/conquest, the kings, and the post exile (Lecture 1, 2016). There are numerous types of sacrifices that can be found in Leviticus: burnt offering (1:3 17), associated cereal offerings (2:1 16), peace offerings (3:1 17), sin offering (4:1 5:13) and guilt offering (5:14 6:7) (Peterson, 1993, p.38). The sacrificial system in the Old Testament to atone for unintentionally and intentionally committed sins and social failures that caused Israelites to become unclean so that they can once again join the worshipping community of God (Leviticus 4:20; 5:16 18). These sacrifices acted in some cases as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Architect of the Byzantine Legacy Essay examples Architect of the Byzantine Legacy Byzantine Emperor Justinian was the bold architect of a revitalized Byzantine Empire that would leave a lasting legacy for Western Civilization. As much of Europe entered the Dark Ages, Justinian s vision of a restored Roman Empire would reverse the decline of the Byzantine Empire and lay a firm foundation that would allow the Byzantine Empire to survive for centuries to come. Justinian, whose full name was Flavius Anicius Julianus Justinianus, was born around 483 AD at Tauresium in Illyricum in the Balkans of present day central Europe. He was the nephew of Byzantine Emperor Justin, the son of Justin s sister Vigilantia (Fortescue). Justinian s uncle, Justin, was the Byzantine Emperor from 518 ... Rome would become the capital of the Empire s western territories, while the city of Byzantium (present day Istanbul in modern day Turkey) was renamed Constantinople and made the new capital of the Roman Empire (Bury 69). From its peak under the Roman Emperors Constantine and Diocletian in the 300 s, Rome importance in the Empire began to shrink. The commercial and cultural growth of the provinces in Greece and the Near East had eclipsed the once robust culture of Rome, where growing trade with the Far East was creating new wealth. The Christian emperors felt more at home in the East, where Christianity, the new official religion of the Roman Empire, was stronger and closer to its roots in Palestine, rather than in the more pagan West (Norwich 11). Forced from their homelands in Central and Eastern Europe by the savagery of the invading Huns, Germanic barbarian tribes invaded the western territories of the Empire. Under constant attack, the western Empire began to shrink, losing centuries worth of territorial gains in Britain, Gaul, Spain, and North Africa to the barbarian tribes, while the eastern territories remained strong, vital and secure. In 378, they dealt the Roman Empire a major blow at the Battle of Adrianople (now Edirne in modern day European Turkey), near Constantinople. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Political Ideology That Best Represents My Views The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an ideology that emphasizes, cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the economy, and individuals rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions (Morone Kersh, 2014, p. 37). In other words, liberalism promotes government assistance for individuals in need as well as protect every individual s rights. One aspect of my life that has shaped my political views is my religious background. I grew up in a Baptist family, and used to go to church regularly. As I got older, I started going to church less and less because the things my pastor said made me feel very uncomfortable. At the time, I did not understand why I felt so uncomfortable and it was not until I got older that I realized why I felt the way I did. Majority of the time, my pastor said things that had sexist and homophobic undertones. Despite being in a holy place, I spent the duration of my time as a member of the church feeling disconnected from everything, which eventually led to me breaking ties with the church completely. My family s financial background also helped in shaping my views. When I was younger, my family received financial assistance from the government in the form of CHIPs and food stamps. I was too young to remember how food stamps benefited my family, but I do remember the many ways in which CHIPs helped us out. For example, I grew up having terrible ...
