Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier
Narrative Assignment
Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of
their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative
language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be
used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful.
3 Stories Using these Characteristics
The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help
better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people
helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight, brown haired woman
was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown skinned man with hair close
cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery like this can allow the reader to
feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the
story.
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but
his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in
the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . I thought then and I
think now that his attack of must was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander
harmlessly about until the mahout came

The Conflict Between Reformers And Politicians
Conflict between reformers and politicians over the enforcement of laws regulating the morality of
migrants, and corruption that resulted from the relationships between police, political leaders and
citizens produced a struggle for control over the police. (Walker). During the 19th century, civilians
tried to reform police organizations by applying external pressures. Those attempts all but failed.
During the 20th century, reformers shaped contemporary policing through the 1970 s. (Fogelson)
Berkeley s police chief, August Vollmer, first rallied police executives around the idea of reform
during the 1920 s and early 1930 s. It was Vollmer s protégé, O.W. Wilson, who became the principal
administrative architect of the police reform organizational strategy. (Wilson)
Reformers rejected politics as the basis of police legitimacy. Reformers believed political involvement
and corruption was the problem with American policing. They moved to end the close ties between
local political leaders and the police. Civil service positions eliminated the loyalty for jobs and
political influences in hiring and firing of police officers. Law and police professionalism was
established as the principal basis of police legitimacy. Reformers were so persuasive in their removal
of political influences, police departments became one of the most autonomous public organizations in
the government. (Goldstein) Policing of a city became a legal and technical matter. It was left to the
discretion of

Globalization Makes Society Better
Globalization benefits society as a whole because it expands markets, increases profits, creates new
jobs and has also lifted people in poor countries out of poverty.
According to Robert O Brien and Marc Williams globalization in terms of liberalization is:
the removal of restrictions to cross border flows, such as the elimination of trade or investment
barriers (O Brien and Williams:27).
Globalization has also transformed the way the world is viewed today. As technology has improved
the production of goods are made faster and cheaper as well as the transportation of goods. As you can
see in the global division of labor, certain countries specialize in different things. For example, in the
automotive industry, different parts are made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the manufacturing and agriculture industry have declined in the United State due to
globalization, it has produced growth in other industries. Scheve and Slaughter also argue that the free
movement of trade and capital has also benefited countries such as China and India because it has
removed millions of people out of poverty. How is globalization bad? If markets are expanding, new
jobs are being created and people are being lifted off from poverty.
Globalization has also increased competition among countries by removing regulation laws that are
undermining corporations to increase profit as well the faster and cheaper production of goods. For
example, a country that has strict labor and environmental laws will engage a Multinational
Corporation to move to a country that have these laws set at a bare minimum; this is because they
want to gain as much profit as possible with low production costs. This is where the term race to the
bottom comes into play.
Spar and Yoffie define race to the bottom as
the progressive movement of capital and technology from countries with relatively high levels of
wages, taxation, and regulation to countries with relatively lower levels (Spar

Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age...
Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other media
are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction
provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s
concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect
on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the
artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied
to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation
emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas,
images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the
utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about
reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early 20th century, often
combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic principles into his
work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,
focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing
it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A
strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however near it may be
(Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning.
Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is perceived in relation to its environment and
its character. A social networking site that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st
century website and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply
read others content, share their own, comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique
aspect about Twitter is its retweet function. To retweet someone is to simply share their post on one s
own profile. The purpose is to share the original post with

Mystical Experience, By Chris Frith
The human brain is the common thread which ties these selections of literature together. Our mind
controls our every action, thought, and dream, but do we shape our mind or does our mind shape us?
We are one and the same, our mind and ourselves, but who has more control our conscious mind or
our subconscious mind and how do we know what we know? in the required texts, Mystical
Experience, Numinous, and Making Up the Mind we discover unique perspectives on understanding
the unknown parts of the complex human psyche with the information they provide.
I found the PDF Mystical Experience very interesting, especially the statement mystics unconsciously
merely attribute a doctrinal content to ordinary experiences. At first, I didn t understand the meaning
of this statement but then after I let this idea sink in I realized how powerful this was to me. Every
aspect of our lives can be analyzed as reactions or messages from a higher being, one could argue that

And this made me question if I really have ever had any meaningful connection with God in my youth
or if it was just my brain responding to my desire to have a meaningful connection with God. And if it
this the case that my brain has just provided me with the right levels of endorphins to quench my
subconscious desires then what has been real emotion and what hasn t been. but you could counter this
by argentine that everything we feel is based off the brain releasing endorphins, therefore, is it even a
possibility to feel a meaningful connection to a higher power if we already have complete control over
everything we do and do not

Personal Integrity In The Blue Hotel And Tennessee s Partner
There are many themes evident in both Stephen Crane s The Blue Hotel and Bret Harte s Tennessee s
Partner; some of these themes are easily recognizable while recognition of the others depends on the
perception of the reader. The two stories share the theme of personal integrity and that all actions have
consequences; however, there are several themes that are unique to each story that the reader can latch
on to. The plot and storyline of Tennessee s Partner are straightforward, but after reading Crane s The
Blue Hotel, one can imagine many different plots that could have taken place throughout the story.
Through imagery, the reader can take what each author presents and let his or her imagination run
wild; there is not a set feeling or reaction that either author intends for the reader to have after reading.
Personal integrity can be seen in both stories between the characters Tennessee s Partner and The
Easterner. Tennessee s partner is integral because he never left his friend behind, even after he had
done him wrong. He was always there for Tennessee and never betrayed him. The Easterner shows his
integrity when he tells the truth about Johnnie and feels guilty about the situation with the Swede;
most people would have shrugged it off so that they did not have to deal with it but he chose to speak
up. Both of these forms of integrity show the true moral values of each character, each example gives
us a better idea of what it s like to be integrin.

American Pie Is A Song That Made A Huge Impact On Americans
American Pie is a song that made a huge impact on Americans in any time period. Don McLean sang
about the events from the nineteen fifties through nineteen seventies after Buddy Holly s death. Many
events from those years are controversial. McLean also stated how music changed from these decades.
Rock n Roll used to be popular since the fifties. American Pie by Don McLean describes the transition
in Rock n Roll music from the iconic history of the mid nineteen hundred. Nonetheless, many critics
assume the first line of the chorus relates to McLean s relationship with the Miss America contestant.
According to the Understanding American Pie website, the catchy phrase, So bye bye, Miss American
Pie, refers to, the beauty queen Miss America (Fann 3). During McLean s successful career, he dated
Miss America, which Americans said that she is as American as an apple pie. She represents the
simplicity in American history that carried meaning. Miss America does not correlate with the theme
of the song. The transformation of Rock n Roll music was impacted by different elements instead of
Miss America. The lyric, So bye bye, Miss American Pie, that Americans assume is the Miss America
never cause the change of events and music. Primarily, McLean wrote this song after his Rock n Roll
musicians who crashed in the plane accident. Based on the Genius website, Don McLean quoted a
phrase in the chorus that repeats, [ ...] This will be the day that I died (1). When

Optic Neuritis Case Studies
Optic Neuritis
Introduction
Optic neuritis (ON) is a disease related to the eye that causes visual impairment. ON arises due to the
inflammation and demyelination of the optic nerve, affecting interpretation of visual signals causing
blurred, grey or dim vision. More often than not, ON is monocular in scope however there are cases
where both eyes are affected. ON has been known to be highly associated with Multiple Sclerosis
(MS) however an individual does not have to have MS to be diagnosed with ON.  81
Epidemiology and Pathology
Optic Neuritis has been found to persist more commonly in young healthy adults, with females having
a higher incidence rate than males. ON is the most common optic neuropathy in individuals under the
age of 50 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acute ON usually involves a singular eye being affected whereby 90% of ON cases take place; the
other 10% of cases occurring in both eyes is found to occur more frequently in children under the age
of 15. The Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials (ONTT) identified vision loss and eye pain as the most
common symptoms found in patients with acute unilateral ON. Vision loss was found to occur steadily
over a period of a few hours to a few days, with a peak in between 1 2 weeks, whilst eye pain occurred
in 92% of those affected and would worsen through eye movement. These visual defects however
would usually resolve itself with care, with the ONTT presenting 56% of participants being clear after
one year and 73% cleared after 10 (Cleary et al., 1997). In other cases, a patient may become affected
with papillitis (intraocular ON) causing hyperemia leading to the swelling of the optic disc; a point of
exit for optic ganglion cells. This area is important for the major blood vessels to supply the retina and
thus aid in interpreting visual signals to be passed through the optic nerve into the brain. 

Research Intervention And Prevention Programs
While earning my undergraduate degree, I had a formative internship experience as a visit monitor at a
court appointed family visitation center. I ensured that children could interact with their parent in a
way that was safe, appropriate, and healthy for the child s physical and emotional health. Each of the
families I monitored had histories of violence, neglect, substance abuse, criminal history, or parental
mental illness. I witnessed the resiliency and risk factors that affected the children these children, who
ranged in age from infancy to adolescence. However, I was impacted by the fact that many of these
children were not receiving the intervention services they likely needed to promote their social,
emotional, and academic growth, even though their family was recently and is possibly still in crisis.
While this was upsetting to me, it motivated me to pursue a career in developmental psychology
where I could impact children in need of effective intervention and prevention programs. Earning this
degree from Vanderbilt University would allow me to research intervention and prevention programs
that will promote positive social, emotional, and academic outcomes for children.
Another influential experience was completing my honors thesis project on personal growth of
students who were studying abroad. Studying abroad is widely acclaimed for its facilitation of
personal growth and for providing students experience with diversity. I wanted to find whether

Hindu Gods And Demons Research Paper
Hindu Gods: How Do They Treat Humans and Demons and Do They Really Treat Anyone Fairly?
Intro:
In this essay, the question that is being asked is what the relationships are between Hindu Gods and
demons, as well as Hindu Gods and people. This will bring about more questions about the
mistreatment of demons and why they are being treated this way. This essay will not be able to fully
answer these questions but it will show how Gods and humans as well as gods and demons interact
with one another. Hindu Gods and Demons:
Hindu Gods have a love for many things but they are not perfect. They have mistreated others many
times, however the most mistreated beings would have to be the demons. At first glance this seems
reasonable Gods don t want demons to bring about chaos. However as one reads on about Hindu
myths, one realizes that the demons are tricked by the Gods more often then the Gods are tricked by
the demons. The Gods do not seem to be these perfect beings at all and in fact, are rather chaotic ...

They treat both groups manipulatively but in different ways. The Gods manipulate the demons so that
they can get rid of the demons, but they manipulate humans simply because they can. The Gods, in
this case, truly have god complexes because they can really do anything and get away with it as long
as no other God finds it upsetting. Humans and demons are manipulated because they can be, and they
can be manipulated because no other God sees a problem with this treatment. The Gods gain power by
manipulating people and demons because if they treated everyone fairly then they would not
command the same power that they have now. Gods are cruel and manipulative but can be
compassionate and caring if given the right circumstances, however they are never compassionate
towards the demons. That s the main difference in how they treat demons versus humans, they will
never treat demons

Liberal Arts Yay Or Nay Essay
Liberal Arts: Yay or Nay? In recent discussions of liberal arts degrees, a controversial issue has been
whether they are worth getting rather than a vocational degree. On one hand, some argue that getting a
liberal arts degree is a waste of money and there are very limited jobs out there that a liberal arts
degree could be used for. On the other hand, however, others argue that in order to be a well rounded
person and to be more interesting, a student should work towards a liberal arts degree. According to
this view, even though there is not one specific job that the individual will be trained for while
obtaining a liberal arts education, he or she will be feeding their brain and giving himself or herself a
chance to develop better knowledge of subjects in social sciences, literature, and mathematics. In sum,
then, the issue is whether getting a liberal arts education is worth it or not. My own view is that I
believe being an intellectually developed person is extremely important; therefore, I agree that
pursuing a liberal arts education can be very valuable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people believe that there are no jobs available to people with liberal arts degrees, but they
would be wrong. If a student got a degree in English/Literature, they could become a teacher, any kind
of journalist or author, or a reporter. All of these occupations have a very wide scope and encompass
many different kinds of jobs. One of the misconceptions in Sanford J. Ungar s essay The New Liberal
Arts is that no one wants to hire a person with an irrelevant liberal arts degree. He then proceeded to
explain that in a recent study more than three quarters of employers encourage college bound students
to get a liberal arts degree. So, that just proves that employers are seeking well rounded students that
have a liberal arts

The Great Gatsby Adaptation Essay
The adaptation of literature into film is a process that requires careful and experienced methods of
cinematic attention to details according to crucial narrative aspects of the literary piece. The film
industry has been creating visual versions of literature for quite some time, but the advancement of
modern technology has opened the door to a world full of new and exciting possibilities in terms of
visual and special effects. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a timeless classic of the
American literary canon, and is a popular choice for film adaptation because the vivid imagery and
strategic symbolism of the plot that lends itself to visual recreation. Dixon (2003) comments on the

For example, he deletes a scene that is key to Fitzgerald s novel; consequently, he perverts the author s
original intentions for an initial establishment of the friendship between Jay Gatsby and Nick prior to
the introduction of the cultural party elements. Dixon (2003), who asserts that Coppola sullied
Fitzgerald s original intentions, reinforces this claim when he states, For example, Nick meets Gatsby
during one of his parties at Gatsby s mansion in a causal, offhand fashion. But in the film, Nick goes
for the first time to one of Gatsby s parties, is melodramatically accosted by a grim faced bodyguard,
taken upstairs in a private elevator, and finally thrust into Gatsby s study. This attempt to heighten
artificially the initial contact between Nick and Gatsby demonstrates an unfortunate reliance upon
extremely clichéd devices to provide dramatic tension (p. 293). However, Fitzgerald makes it clear
that Nick and Gatsby s relationship exists separately from the dramatic elements of the

Many things motivate the main character Equality. Thinking of this, some may wonder what is his
primary motivation. His primary motivation is to prove everyone and everything he has ever known to

Equality knew his invention could benefit mankind and that s why defied all odds and proves
everyone wrong. This motivates him because he s always been told he wasn t able to be smarter or
stronger but to be equal to all of his brothers. He was always told he couldn t be anything more than
an average human being, in his period of time. This is exactly what motivates him, he was told he
could have no affection to another person, no enhancements from the average person. But he knew the
invention he made could help his people, but nobody cared or didn t know because he wanted to show

Trade Relations Between New Zealand And The Philippines Essay
Abstract This paper is a discussion of the trade relations between New Zealand and the Philippines. Its
focus is on the trade profiles first and foremost of both New Zealand and the Philippines to afford a
bird s eye view of each country s individual trading capacity and capability. Hopefully, the discussion
shows the trading intensity between New Zealand and the Philippines. Trade barriers are discussed
briefly in order to depict some of the hindrances that are currently faced by both parties. The paper
also has discussions on New Zealand and the Philippines trade potentials and opportunities to
showcase both countries trade possibilities under certain situations. Introduction New Zealand, a
country with a population of more or less four million five hundred thousand and the Philippines, a
country with a population of almost a hundred million are operating on a more or less equal Gross
Domestic Product. Obviously there is a disparity in terms of per capita income between the two
countries. The reason why I have cited the above information is because I wanted to emphasize the
country wide impact of trade for these two trading partner country. Yes, I know that neither country
has anything to do with each other s population but the fact still remains that the gigantic difference in
population affects current and future trading between these two trading partner. New Zealand and the
Philippines are mainly agriculture based economy countries, although

Essay on Corporate Downsizing
Corporate Downsizing Corporate Downsizing Organizations in every segment of business, industry,
government, and education are downsizing. Downsizing is and has been a controversial phenomenon
in the last few years. The controversy that surrounds downsizing may be better described as a debate
in organizational theory about whether change is adaptive or disruptive. The issues which establish the
outcome of the controversy include why the downsizing is taking affect, how it is implemented, and
what steps are taken to enhance its effects on organizational performance. The reasons for corporate
downsizing are presented in many forms. Some companies downsize due to technological changes

Management wants a quick cut that protects he company s assets, yet it wants to be gentle and
compassionate to those who are let go. These two objectives are self canceling, and to accomplish the
first requires considerable compromise on the second. Many companies wait until the day of the lay
off to inform its employees. They are concerned about sabotage and productivity. They seem to think
that if they retain the bad news until the last moment that the employees will leave and the rest will get
back to business. However, this method of a lay off is the least favorable for the employees. If the
company gives the employees notice of the cutback in the workforce, they will have time to plan for
the financial problems, look for other work, and make other necessary arrangements to prepare them
for the loss.
It would be in the best interest of the company to give this notice to its workers. Being a survivor of
downsizing can have its own ethical issues. Those who are left after the downsizing has occurred, may
share perceptions about the ethics of the decisions leading up to the dismissal of those who left. They
may experience feelings such as anger, guilt, fear, and even depression. These feelings could be
brought on by having to take up the slack and doing more work. They could also be asked to learn
new tasks and for the same or maybe even less money than before the downsizing. Asking people to

season was above all the last eight years, bringing in profits of over 1.25 million dollars. With this
exceptional staff returning for the 2017 season, we feel profits of 1.5 million for the 2017 season is
within reach. We had more Full House nights in October of 2016, than we did in the whole season of
2015. Our goal for the 2017 season will be to average one Full House every week we are open for the

the middle class families and people who travel with their pets.
We will have a $50,000 marketing budget for the 2017 season and this plan will outline the areas the
funds will be spent, how they will be spent and who we will be marketing too. Some of the funds will

Winston Churchill s Iron Curtain
On March 5, 1946, Winston Churchill gave his most prominent speech at Westminster College in
Fulton, Missouri. The Iron Curtain is thought to be the mark of the beginning of the Cold War.
Numerous notable speeches were given during the World War II time period, but among these
speeches, the Iron Curtain just seems to stand out. The Iron Curtain dealt with principles such as
freedom, democracy, and justice. He opened up the eyes of millions. Churchill hoped to introduce the
threat of communism upon the minds of the world. People believed the war of the century had already
came and passed, but Winston Churchill presumed otherwise. When the Soviet Union rejected to
adopt democracy, the world began to fear of what is to come. The Soviet Union s decision to not take

alerted the world s nations about the intentions of the Soviet Union. Churchill saw the Soviet Union
desire to foist communism to Eastern European countries. This speech has presented the world one of
the most distinguished metaphors; an iron curtain was set to describe the controversy between
democracy and communism. In his speech, Churchill acknowledges America s new role as a strong
world power and what they must do.
Churchill s speech recognized that the Soviet Union was trying to convert Eastern Europe to
communism. The Soviets would dominate politically, socially, and culturally in the region.
Churchill recognized that with the building of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union was basically saying
that the East was in the Russian sphere of influence. Churchill understood that the Soviet Union was

Advantages Of Porter Diamond
Dunning (1977) states that the decisions on entry mode decisions are determined by the composition
of three sets of advantages ownership advantages, internalization advantages and location advantages.
If a firm possesses the more OLI advantages, the greater the propensity of adopting an entry mode
with a high control level such as wholly owned ventures, the outcomes shown in the figure below.
Stopford, John M.; Susan Strange; John S. Henley (1991) state that the eclectic paradigm contrasts a
country s resource endowment and geographical position (providing locational advantages) with firms
resources (ownership advantages), the four outcomes shown in the figure 2 below. If the firms possess
competitive advantages and higher in the transport costs than foreign locations , the firms therefore
make a FDI abroad in order to save the transportation costs. But if the country has locational

The Figure.3.6 shows the implementation 8x8 modified booth multiplier using High Performance

performance multiplier which has low number of partial products row. The generation of these partial
products is quite complex to implement in hardware. So in this work has used a straight forward way
of implementing a Signed and Unsigned Multiplication using Baugh Wooley Algorithm with HPM

CHAPTER FOUR: LOW POWER DESIGN
4.1 Introduction:
In earlier stages of VLSI circuit design the emphasis is on Area and Speed optimization giving
concerns to Packaging and Efficient designing. As the technology scales down according to
predictions of Moor s Law, it is advent that the CMOS dimensions have been scaled down drastically.
But due to increase in use of Portable Devices Such as Cellphones, Laptops, Personal Health
Monitoring systems, there has been a demand of higher battery life for Portable devices. Whereas big
data centers which contains large set of circuits consumes tremendous power and dissipates large
amount of heat which incurs huge cost to maintain. The solution for these problems is to design
circuits which consume low power which give rise to the concept of Low Power VLSI designing.

The Collapse Of The Oslo Negotiations
Although the claim that the collapse of the Oslo negotiations was due to a failure of process rather
than of substance carries some weight, I will argue that had the substance of the terms of Oslo been
more explicit and had they avoided an open ended gradualism approach, I doubt that the ensuing
process would have had such a devastating effect on the negotiations. In the following essay I will
analyse the key reasons for the failure of Oslo, namely the constructive ambiguity of the terms
themselves and how this contributed to creating conflicting misconceptions regarding the final
settlement, the lack of an explicit commitment to the two state solution as the end point of the
negotiations and finally the gradualist structure for the peace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was the first of among many terms whose meaning was effectively nullified by the constructive
ambiguity of the Oslo Accords. Abd Al Sahfi furthers this argument stating that, through the Accords,
the status of the West Bank and Gaza strip was being blurred from being recognisably occupied to
only being disputed as well as Ben Ami stating there is nothing in the letter of the Oslo accords that
prevents the creation of settlements . Israel capitalised upon this ambiguity through its settlement
expansion programme, to them, a provision merely implied could not be relied upon, especially as
there were no provisions for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories, even as a
final status issue. To the Palestinians this was indicative of Israel s inability to take a decision that
would recognize these as Palestinian territories , even if the Israelis claimed this was a matter of
interpreting the terms as only applying to the legal status of the occupied territories rather than to the
demographic and geographic status quo. Though the Accords enumerate a number of contentious
issues to be deferred to a later date, with even reference being made to UN Security Council
Resolution 242 (the withdrawal of territories) the Israelis profited from the openness of the terms so as
to exploit their powers as occupiers to the hilt so that by the time final status negotiations discussing

Women s Experiences During The Holocaust
While women s experiences during the Holocaust were not entirely different from those of men, it
would be false and misleading to assert that they were identical. There were many instances in which
an individual s ordeal was shaped by his or her gender and it is only by understanding what was
unique to women and children, and what was unique to men, that we can provide a complete account
of what occurred during the Holocaust. One of the reasons it took so long for historians to
comprehend the importance of these perspectives is because women were busy rebuilding their lives
after the Holocaust. It wasn t until the 1970s when feminist scholarship was sparked, that there
became an interest in the stories of women survivors. Eventually, after the women were able to put
their lives back together and raise their children, it became important for them to share their memoirs.
One source of gender difference during the Holocaust experience women had more anticipatory
reactions towards Nazi danger. In Germany, even before the 1938 Kristallnacht pogrom, it was often
the women who had to assume new roles to rescue other family members. It was assumed that the
Nazis would not harm women, so it was typically women who went to the police, the SS and the
municipality to protest haphazard actions against their children and families and to secure the release
of husbands and sons who had been detained or arrested.
In organizing and arranging the details of everyday life, such as who should

Essay on The Essence of Pop Culture
Talk about Pop Music, Talk about Pop Music was one of the most catchy phrases of the 1980 s. Just
as in the 80 s, today we see many characteristics of pop culture effecting our lives. But, what is pop
culture?
br
br I spent some time online trying to answer my question and time after time I was led to the same
direction: pop culture is what we see, hear, speak, and are otherwise exposed to on a daily basis. The
infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk mail we
receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie together to form
this idea of pop culture. These, plus many other aspects, form our minds and teach us how to be
culturally smart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Showing how people will believe movies, maybe because they see it, but yet not believe in a possible
salvation. Not all pop culture is like that. Look at the Jerry Springer Show. It is a cultural icon for
college students everywhere. It s the allure of crazy people and wild stories that attract people to
watch it. He has become forever an American figure and will always be associated when some one
brings up a story about a fight and they then say hey you remember that Springer Show? This show
represents the corrupt side of society, which we do not see on a normal daily basis, except for on the
show. It is typical American culture just as Wrestling is now becoming. They both offer a wild show
for entertainment and also shows a darker side of the society.
br
br As a society and culture, we decide what pop culture is. Our actions and reactions are read by the
media and the rest of society to build around what we want, ultimately creating Pop Culture. There is
not a bias for these ideas considering that everything that surrounds us, including history is pop culture
in a way. People decided what the times

not be possible to give them these sentences without their presence. Many legal drugs such as alcohol
and tobacco have relatively dangerous affects that could lead to death in the same ways illegal
substances can, which brings upon the question of why an individual s well being would ever be put

Parenting In Romeo And Juliet And The Bible
Step 2 of Romeo and Juliet essay How parenting from Romeo and Juliet and the Bible are different in
many ways. the bible teaches the parents how to rise your children with a biblical background, and
with Romeo and Juliet they have a background of teachings from their parents and friends that can
slowly change overtime Romeo thinks about how he feels and not the about the ones around him.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of
the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not

Romeo was banished his parents were shocked on what just happed and I would be if my child kicked

The Hr Issues Related On The Migration Failure Essay
In order to understand the HR issues involved in HPs migration failure, I started by looking at the
company s corporate culture from origins to date. I needed to determine what had changed as Hewlett
Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast experience in
the computer industry and there long established relationship with software provider SAP. The current
study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard created an effective management
style which contained a set of values that defined how they wanted the company and its workforce to
perform. This was known as the HP way . The main emphasis was on innovation through creating new
quality products that added value to their customers requirements and secondly to create a supportive
corporate culture as HPs employees where seen as the company s biggest resource who together their
capabilities accomplished something for the greater good of the organisation. HPs employees where
seen as the company s biggest asset and in turn they were given the opportunity to share in the
company s success through profit sharing plans, they were given tuition to upskill, and the company
offered flexi time and job sharing programs to its employees. Having researched the concept of the HP
way I have discovered that many companies have also adopted this approach into their own business
practices the following points are my understanding of Hewlett Packard s core values

Nepal is a relatively small (population around 26.5 million) land locked country, bordered by the two
biggest countries in the world, India and China. Its renowned physical beauty makes it very
fragmented and many parts are inaccessible by modern transport and communication facilities. There
are few cities and 86% of the population lives in rural areas. The country is divided into 5
development regions, 14 zones and 75 districts. Despite its richness in biodiversity, natural resources
and cultural multiplicity, Nepal has still remained a developing country where more than 24 percent of
the people live under the poverty line. The impact of the poverty is manifest in all other sectors like
health and hygiene, education, disaster and conflict preparedness, access to and distribution of
resources, gender equity, as well as respect for humanitarian values. The transitional period of
developmental change in the legal, political, financial and diplomatic scenario indicate that the
country needs more efforts in the fields of social reformation, rehabilitation and development.

  • 2. Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier Narrative Assignment Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful. 3 Stories Using these Characteristics The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight, brown haired woman was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown skinned man with hair close cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the story. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . I thought then and I think now that his attack of must was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander harmlessly about until the mahout came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Conflict Between Reformers And Politicians Conflict between reformers and politicians over the enforcement of laws regulating the morality of migrants, and corruption that resulted from the relationships between police, political leaders and citizens produced a struggle for control over the police. (Walker). During the 19th century, civilians tried to reform police organizations by applying external pressures. Those attempts all but failed. During the 20th century, reformers shaped contemporary policing through the 1970 s. (Fogelson) Berkeley s police chief, August Vollmer, first rallied police executives around the idea of reform during the 1920 s and early 1930 s. It was Vollmer s protégé, O.W. Wilson, who became the principal administrative architect of the police reform organizational strategy. (Wilson) Reformers rejected politics as the basis of police legitimacy. Reformers believed political involvement and corruption was the problem with American policing. They moved to end the close ties between local political leaders and the police. Civil service positions eliminated the loyalty for jobs and political influences in hiring and firing of police officers. Law and police professionalism was established as the principal basis of police legitimacy. Reformers were so persuasive in their removal of political influences, police departments became one of the most autonomous public organizations in the government. (Goldstein) Policing of a city became a legal and technical matter. It was left to the discretion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Globalization Makes Society Better Globalization benefits society as a whole because it expands markets, increases profits, creates new jobs and has also lifted people in poor countries out of poverty. According to Robert O Brien and Marc Williams globalization in terms of liberalization is: the removal of restrictions to cross border flows, such as the elimination of trade or investment barriers (O Brien and Williams:27). Globalization has also transformed the way the world is viewed today. As technology has improved the production of goods are made faster and cheaper as well as the transportation of goods. As you can see in the global division of labor, certain countries specialize in different things. For example, in the automotive industry, different parts are made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the manufacturing and agriculture industry have declined in the United State due to globalization, it has produced growth in other industries. Scheve and Slaughter also argue that the free movement of trade and capital has also benefited countries such as China and India because it has removed millions of people out of poverty. How is globalization bad? If markets are expanding, new jobs are being created and people are being lifted off from poverty. Globalization has also increased competition among countries by removing regulation laws that are undermining corporations to increase profit as well the faster and cheaper production of goods. For example, a country that has strict labor and environmental laws will engage a Multinational Corporation to move to a country that have these laws set at a bare minimum; this is because they want to gain as much profit as possible with low production costs. This is where the term race to the bottom comes into play. Spar and Yoffie define race to the bottom as the progressive movement of capital and technology from countries with relatively high levels of wages, taxation, and regulation to countries with relatively lower levels (Spar ... • 6. Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age... Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early 20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply read others content, share their own, comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet function. To retweet someone is to simply share their post on one s own profile. The purpose is to share the original post with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Mystical Experience, By Chris Frith The human brain is the common thread which ties these selections of literature together. Our mind controls our every action, thought, and dream, but do we shape our mind or does our mind shape us? We are one and the same, our mind and ourselves, but who has more control our conscious mind or our subconscious mind and how do we know what we know? in the required texts, Mystical Experience, Numinous, and Making Up the Mind we discover unique perspectives on understanding the unknown parts of the complex human psyche with the information they provide. I found the PDF Mystical Experience very interesting, especially the statement mystics unconsciously merely attribute a doctrinal content to ordinary experiences. At first, I didn t understand the meaning of this statement but then after I let this idea sink in I realized how powerful this was to me. Every aspect of our lives can be analyzed as reactions or messages from a higher being, one could argue that my dance team practice tonight from nine to midnight was cancelled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this made me question if I really have ever had any meaningful connection with God in my youth or if it was just my brain responding to my desire to have a meaningful connection with God. And if it this the case that my brain has just provided me with the right levels of endorphins to quench my subconscious desires then what has been real emotion and what hasn t been. but you could counter this by argentine that everything we feel is based off the brain releasing endorphins, therefore, is it even a possibility to feel a meaningful connection to a higher power if we already have complete control over everything we do and do not ... • 8. Personal Integrity In The Blue Hotel And Tennessee s Partner There are many themes evident in both Stephen Crane s The Blue Hotel and Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner; some of these themes are easily recognizable while recognition of the others depends on the perception of the reader. The two stories share the theme of personal integrity and that all actions have consequences; however, there are several themes that are unique to each story that the reader can latch on to. The plot and storyline of Tennessee s Partner are straightforward, but after reading Crane s The Blue Hotel, one can imagine many different plots that could have taken place throughout the story. Through imagery, the reader can take what each author presents and let his or her imagination run wild; there is not a set feeling or reaction that either author intends for the reader to have after reading. Personal integrity can be seen in both stories between the characters Tennessee s Partner and The Easterner. Tennessee s partner is integral because he never left his friend behind, even after he had done him wrong. He was always there for Tennessee and never betrayed him. The Easterner shows his integrity when he tells the truth about Johnnie and feels guilty about the situation with the Swede; most people would have shrugged it off so that they did not have to deal with it but he chose to speak up. Both of these forms of integrity show the true moral values of each character, each example gives us a better idea of what it s like to be integrin. The two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. American Pie Is A Song That Made A Huge Impact On Americans American Pie is a song that made a huge impact on Americans in any time period. Don McLean sang about the events from the nineteen fifties through nineteen seventies after Buddy Holly s death. Many events from those years are controversial. McLean also stated how music changed from these decades. Rock n Roll used to be popular since the fifties. American Pie by Don McLean describes the transition in Rock n Roll music from the iconic history of the mid nineteen hundred. Nonetheless, many critics assume the first line of the chorus relates to McLean s relationship with the Miss America contestant. According to the Understanding American Pie website, the catchy phrase, So bye bye, Miss American Pie, refers to, the beauty queen Miss America (Fann 3). During McLean s successful career, he dated Miss America, which Americans said that she is as American as an apple pie. She represents the simplicity in American history that carried meaning. Miss America does not correlate with the theme of the song. The transformation of Rock n Roll music was impacted by different elements instead of Miss America. The lyric, So bye bye, Miss American Pie, that Americans assume is the Miss America never cause the change of events and music. Primarily, McLean wrote this song after his Rock n Roll musicians who crashed in the plane accident. • 10. Optic Neuritis Case Studies Optic Neuritis Introduction Optic neuritis (ON) is a disease related to the eye that causes visual impairment. ON arises due to the inflammation and demyelination of the optic nerve, affecting interpretation of visual signals causing blurred, grey or dim vision. More often than not, ON is monocular in scope however there are cases where both eyes are affected. ON has been known to be highly associated with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) however an individual does not have to have MS to be diagnosed with ON.  81 Epidemiology and Pathology Optic Neuritis has been found to persist more commonly in young healthy adults, with females having a higher incidence rate than males. ON is the most common optic neuropathy in individuals under the age of 50 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acute ON usually involves a singular eye being affected whereby 90% of ON cases take place; the other 10% of cases occurring in both eyes is found to occur more frequently in children under the age of 15. The Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials (ONTT) identified vision loss and eye pain as the most common symptoms found in patients with acute unilateral ON. Vision loss was found to occur steadily over a period of a few hours to a few days, with a peak in between 1 2 weeks, whilst eye pain occurred in 92% of those affected and would worsen through eye movement. These visual defects however would usually resolve itself with care, with the ONTT presenting 56% of participants being clear after one year and 73% cleared after 10 (Cleary et al., 1997). In other cases, a patient may become affected with papillitis (intraocular ON) causing hyperemia leading to the swelling of the optic disc; a point of exit for optic ganglion cells. This area is important for the major blood vessels to supply the retina and thus aid in interpreting visual signals to be passed through the optic nerve into the brain.  ... • 11. Research Intervention And Prevention Programs While earning my undergraduate degree, I had a formative internship experience as a visit monitor at a court appointed family visitation center. I ensured that children could interact with their parent in a way that was safe, appropriate, and healthy for the child s physical and emotional health. Each of the families I monitored had histories of violence, neglect, substance abuse, criminal history, or parental mental illness. I witnessed the resiliency and risk factors that affected the children these children, who ranged in age from infancy to adolescence. However, I was impacted by the fact that many of these children were not receiving the intervention services they likely needed to promote their social, emotional, and academic growth, even though their family was recently and is possibly still in crisis. While this was upsetting to me, it motivated me to pursue a career in developmental psychology where I could impact children in need of effective intervention and prevention programs. Earning this degree from Vanderbilt University would allow me to research intervention and prevention programs that will promote positive social, emotional, and academic outcomes for children. Another influential experience was completing my honors thesis project on personal growth of students who were studying abroad. Studying abroad is widely acclaimed for its facilitation of personal growth and for providing students experience with diversity. I wanted to find whether students who were ... • 12. Hindu Gods And Demons Research Paper Hindu Gods: How Do They Treat Humans and Demons and Do They Really Treat Anyone Fairly? Intro: In this essay, the question that is being asked is what the relationships are between Hindu Gods and demons, as well as Hindu Gods and people. This will bring about more questions about the mistreatment of demons and why they are being treated this way. This essay will not be able to fully answer these questions but it will show how Gods and humans as well as gods and demons interact with one another. Hindu Gods and Demons: Hindu Gods have a love for many things but they are not perfect. They have mistreated others many times, however the most mistreated beings would have to be the demons. At first glance this seems reasonable Gods don t want demons to bring about chaos. However as one reads on about Hindu myths, one realizes that the demons are tricked by the Gods more often then the Gods are tricked by the demons. The Gods do not seem to be these perfect beings at all and in fact, are rather chaotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They treat both groups manipulatively but in different ways. The Gods manipulate the demons so that they can get rid of the demons, but they manipulate humans simply because they can. The Gods, in this case, truly have god complexes because they can really do anything and get away with it as long as no other God finds it upsetting. Humans and demons are manipulated because they can be, and they can be manipulated because no other God sees a problem with this treatment. The Gods gain power by manipulating people and demons because if they treated everyone fairly then they would not command the same power that they have now. Gods are cruel and manipulative but can be compassionate and caring if given the right circumstances, however they are never compassionate towards the demons. • 13. Liberal Arts Yay Or Nay Essay Liberal Arts: Yay or Nay? In recent discussions of liberal arts degrees, a controversial issue has been whether they are worth getting rather than a vocational degree. On one hand, some argue that getting a liberal arts degree is a waste of money and there are very limited jobs out there that a liberal arts degree could be used for. On the other hand, however, others argue that in order to be a well rounded person and to be more interesting, a student should work towards a liberal arts degree. According to this view, even though there is not one specific job that the individual will be trained for while obtaining a liberal arts education, he or she will be feeding their brain and giving himself or herself a chance to develop better knowledge of subjects in social sciences, literature, and mathematics. In sum, then, the issue is whether getting a liberal arts education is worth it or not. But in the film, Nick goes for the first time to one of Gatsby s parties, is melodramatically accosted by a grim faced bodyguard, taken upstairs in a private elevator, and finally thrust into Gatsby s study. Downsizing is and has been a controversial phenomenon in the last few years. The controversy that surrounds downsizing may be better described as a debate in organizational theory about whether change is adaptive or disruptive. The issues which establish the outcome of the controversy include why the downsizing is taking affect, how it is implemented, and what steps are taken to enhance its effects on organizational performance. These two objectives are self canceling, and to accomplish the first requires considerable compromise on the second. Many companies wait until the day of the lay off to inform its employees. They are concerned about sabotage and productivity. They seem to think that if they retain the bad news until the last moment that the employees will leave and the rest will get back to business. However, this method of a lay off is the least favorable for the employees. If the company gives the employees notice of the cutback in the workforce, they will have time to plan for the financial problems, look for other work, and make other necessary arrangements to prepare them for the loss. It would be in the best interest of the company to give this notice to its workers. Being a survivor of downsizing can have its own ethical issues. Those who are left after the downsizing has occurred, may share perceptions about the ethics of the decisions leading up to the dismissal of those who left. They may experience feelings such as anger, guilt, fear, and even depression. These feelings could be brought on by having to take up the slack and doing more work. They could also be asked to learn new tasks and for the same or maybe even less money than before the downsizing. Asking people to do more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the following essay I will analyse the key reasons for the failure of Oslo, namely the constructive ambiguity of the terms themselves and how this contributed to creating conflicting misconceptions regarding the final settlement, the lack of an explicit commitment to the two state solution as the end point of the negotiations and finally the gradualist structure for the peace ... Israel capitalised upon this ambiguity through its settlement expansion programme, to them, a provision merely implied could not be relied upon, especially as there were no provisions for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories, even as a final status issue. To the Palestinians this was indicative of Israel s inability to take a decision that would recognize these as Palestinian territories , even if the Israelis claimed this was a matter of interpreting the terms as only applying to the legal status of the occupied territories rather than to the demographic and geographic status quo. Women s Experiences During The Holocaust While women s experiences during the Holocaust were not entirely different from those of men, it would be false and misleading to assert that they were identical. There were many instances in which an individual s ordeal was shaped by his or her gender and it is only by understanding what was unique to women and children, and what was unique to men, that we can provide a complete account of what occurred during the Holocaust. One of the reasons it took so long for historians to comprehend the importance of these perspectives is because women were busy rebuilding their lives after the Holocaust. It wasn t until the 1970s when feminist scholarship was sparked, that there became an interest in the stories of women survivors. Eventually, after the women were able to put their lives back together and raise their children, it became important for them to share their memoirs. One source of gender difference during the Holocaust experience women had more anticipatory reactions towards Nazi danger. In Germany, even before the 1938 Kristallnacht pogrom, it was often the women who had to assume new roles to rescue other family members. It was assumed that the Nazis would not harm women, so it was typically women who went to the police, the SS and the municipality to protest haphazard actions against their children and families and to secure the release of husbands and sons who had been detained or arrested. I am most intrigued by medium or large mammals in the northwestern United States, and hope to study species like gray wolves, grizzly and black bears, foxes, Canada lynxes, cougars, and porcupines, among others. In addition to field work, this occupation involves some time analyzing data, working in a lab, and writing research reports and papers. Also, much of the work accomplished includes cooperation with others, and I look forward to working with those that share similar passions as me. It is far from a luxurious life, with many nights spent in cabins or camping in the wilderness, waving pesky flies away from one s head, and trekking miles through heavily wooded forests, but these elements of the career only inspire my passion further, as I love spending time outdoors and cherishing ...
