Analysis Of The Princess And The Frog
Disney films over their course of existence have hidden double meanings in many of the films they
produce. Rather if you are a child or a full pledged adult, people from all different ages can receive a
bit of advice when it comes to what Disney films try to convey in their motion pictures. Disney is also
to be known for some of their unforgettable whimsical characters and memorable songs in every film.
The film released in 2009 The Princess and The Frog is no different. Especially when it comes to
Mama s Odie s musical number half way through the film. Mama s Odie s song, Dig a Little Deeper is
full of metaphors, themes and imagery one can deeply analyze.
At the same time we can apply the song, Dig a Little Deeper, to various characters we have come to
learn and explore through the several novels we have covered over the course of the semester. We can
also apply it to the distinct issues pertaining to women in the South.
The title of the song itself gives the viewer the overall significant and direct theme of the piece right
away. It urges a person to go beyond the surface of a circumstance almost saying as if to go into the
root or origin of the matter. To find who a person really is at the core of their being. At the start of the
song Mama Odie comes off as a non judgmental person. Don t matter what you look like. Don t matter
what you wear. How many rings you got on your finger. We don t care. Being in front of her and don

Jeremy Bentham Research Paper
English philosopher, economist, and theoretical judge are only a few words that describe Jeremy
Bentham, but one word that really sums up what he was, utilitarianism. Born in February 1748 in
London, England. His mother was the daughter of a shop clerk and his father and grandfather was well
established lawyer with a small practice, but most of the family s income came from his father s
purchase and selling of land. During his early childhood years, Bentham displayed a remarkable gift
for learning. By the time he was four years of age his father began to teach Bentham Latin and Greek
while sitting on his knee at night. These lessons would prove to be the foundation that Bentham would
build on while attending Westminster school where he accelerated in Latin. ... Show more content on

This is where his love for books and language was accelerated as got older. By the age of seven
Bentham began learning French and reading books by Burnet s Theory of the Earth, Cave s Lives of
the Apostles, Stow s Chronicles, Rapin s History,Gil Blas, Plutarch s Lives, Mandeville s Fable of the
Bees, and Clarissa Harlowe . (Victorian web) In 1760 1764 Bentham was accepted and a resident of
Queens College, Oxford. It took Bentham only four years to achieve his Bachelor of Arts degree
making him one of the youngest to graduate from Queens College at the age of six teen. However, his
graduation was all contingent on him swearing to the 39 articles of the Church of England. Bentham
had a hard time accepting them and faced a moral dilemma. He could not swear to the 39 articles, this
would stop him from receiving his degree or swear to the 39 articles and receive his

Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current...
Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since the
change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable sub
tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion (Rollinson,
2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned
with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid:
463). So, scientific management works better with small companies which do not usually need to react
to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect attributed to the Fordism model
(which adopted Taylorism s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CHRM´s responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and motivation
and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin, 2012: 107).
Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right people to
a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example could be human
resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great
potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a
low cost (Babío et al, 2007: 50).
3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson,
2005: 9).
This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the
developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization
achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing
their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4),
and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11).
Seeing that we cannot assure everything is done as it

Summary Of The Book Of Judges
Women in the book of Judges The Book of Judges talks about ancient Israel, and how they extended
their territory by acquiring lands from the non Israelites. The book narrates how Israelites conquered
and reclaimed their lost land from non Israelites and how they used to turn from God whenever they
are satisfied. But it is written in the Bible that, the guilty are by no means cleared, as Exodus (34:7)
says this is the reason why the Lord used several Kings and Judges like Deborah to help the people of
Israel find their way back to Him. As the book reveals, it is evident that most of the judges were men
(as they were most of the times referred to as Judges). The book talks about a great woman Deborah,
also referred to as the bee , as a key judge in the entire book. This book unveils the importance of
women (through acts and strengths of Deborah (mainly) and other heroic female characters) and their
power to the readers. The Book of Judges narrates six women who are and will always be remembered
by their outstanding and remarkable work. They are, Achsah, Deborah, Jael, Japhthah s daughter,
Delilah and the identity of two of them is not revealed. O Connor (1980) suggests that, The book of
Judges demonstrates this disparity as observed; women assume a vital function in its set up as the
volume s subject is marginalization (278). Women are well known in three major roles, that is, being a
mother, a daughter or a mate. Despite these limited roles, the Book of Judges shows

California Mass Shootings
San Bernardino, California Shooting The United States has had over 350 mass shootings in 2015
alone. There is no specific criteria for mass shootings besides that there are multiple victims and it
seems to be at random. There have been a number of mass shootings that have made the news
worldwide like; the mass shooting at a black church in S.C and the mass shooting in Texas that left
over 20 individuals dead or injured. There are several reasons why a mass shooting may occur. The
most recent mass shooting happened this month in California and it happened at a home for the
mentally ill. On December 2, 2015 Syed Rizwan Farook and wife Tashfeen Malik opened fire on at a

found in the conference room of Inland Regional three explosive devices packed with black powder

The Early Beginnings Of The Aviation Industry
Since the first aircraft launched from a ship, the development of commercial passenger aircraft, to jet
fighters and unmanned drone systems of today s age, safety is paramount is not just a catch phrase and
is repeated and highlighted in every aspect of aviation in the world. Historically speaking, safety has
not always been the most important factor in research, development, and operation and those tragic
results often end in loss of aircraft or worse yet, the life of others. This paper will discuss the early
beginnings of the aviation industry and highlight some of the more catastrophic events that lead to
safety becoming a concern. It will then list and describe some of the legislative actions and regulations
that have been established with the evolution of safety standards in the aviation industry. Lastly, this
paper will analyze the implementation of safety programs and processes in the workplace and the
safety advances in aircraft production and technological systems of airport operations. The
Implementations and Impacts of Safety Oversight in the Aviation Industry From the advent of aviation
into commercial cargo and passenger transport industry, keeping aircraft flying safely has been reliant
on manpower and finances. Through time, too many aircraft and, most importantly, lives were being
lost due to unsafe equipment and systems, non standardized maintenance practices, and the absence of
legislation and regulations to enforce standards

The Investigation Of Vanadium s Redox States
The Investigation of Vanadium s Redox States
Justin Fick
Objective
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the chemical reactions involved with oxovanadium
ions VO3 and VO2+ to help determine the standard electrode potential for the reaction: VO3− + 4H+
+ e− →VO2+ +2H2O. This procedure helped determine the theoretical Eocell.
Introduction
Vanadium is a transition metal which was explored by Andres Manuel del Rio during 1801 in Mexico.
Vanadium has been cited to be present in over sixty various minerals such as the ore of lead and
vanadium, vanadinite.1 Vanadium is most present in the uranium ores in the United States, where is
commonly found in the presence of sandstones. Vanadium is also settled in coal deposits that are rich

In transition metals the oxidation states can be distinguished by the color they give off due to the
ability for the metal complex to absorb visible light. Common vanadium metal complexes are VO3−
and VO2+ which have oxidation states of V5+ and V4+. Vanadium is able to oxidize and reduce from
each metal complex due to redox reactions with certain chemicals.3 The various oxidations can be
distinguished by their specific given colors yellow (VO3 ) and blue (VO2+). The process in which the
metal complexes oxidize/reduce to each other is through a one step redox reaction1.
VO3− + 4H+ + e− →VO2+ +2H2O (1)
Experimental Procedure
Reduction of VO3
Seven test tubes were labeled numerically with 2 mL of VO3 and H2SO42 added to each tube. A small
pea size portion of solid Na2SO3 was added to the first test tube. Then, 20 drops of distilled water
were added to the second test tube. In the third test tube, 20 drops of (.2 M) NaBr were added. Then,
to drops of (.2 M) NaNO2 were added into the fourth test tube. A small portion of Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 *
6H2O was added into the fifth test tube. The sixth test tube had 20 drops of (.2 M) H2Cr2O4 added,
where the seventh test tube was the control tube with no additional chemicals added. All the test tubes
were left to react for 3 minutes and then heated in a heated bath for approximately 20 minutes.

Fice Of First Lady
The office, President of the United States of America, is one, if not, the most powerful position in the
modern world that any individual can occupy. However, there is another office in the same building
and even the same family that garners much less attention: the office of First Lady. For the lack of
attention both in historical records, and in public focus, First Ladies throughout the history of the
United States have had much more influence and impact than they have been accredited. One such
woman, Lucretia Garfield began, in her short term, to change the office of First Lady. Lucretia
Garfield challenged the gender normatives of the Gilded Age, and she opened up her role for future
First Ladies to exert their bold presence in the White House. Lucretia began her safari into the world
of men at a young age, beginning with her education. From the moment she was born, on April 19,
1832 in Garretsville Ohio to parents Zebulon and Arabella Rudolph, Lucretia lived an atypical
lifestyle. The Rudolph family, devout Disciples of Christ Church members, engaged with other church
members to build the Western Reserve Eclectic Institution in Hiram College. According to, Notable
American Women: A Biographical Dictionary, Lucretia Rudolph entered Western Reserve Eclectic
Institute in the year 1850 after completing previous studies at Geauga Seminary in Chester Ohio. As
remarkable as it was that Lucretia even received a college level education, she also edited and

Psychological Assessment Of Adolescents Essay
Psychological Testing and Assessment of Adolescents
An assessment involves administering and interpreting psychological tests and integrating this with
current and past symptoms, observations, information about developmental, biological, social,
educational, and life experiences (Kirst Ashman Hull, 2006). Educational assessments of adolescents
are based on obtaining a profile of the child s learning weaknesses as well as his or her strengths.
When an educational assessment is performed on the adolescent, a counselor can determine academic
potential, collect observational interview data, and can better understand the strengths and weaknesses
of the adolescents.
In tests, there are two main classes such as the achievement tests or ... Show more content on

The WISC is designed to measure human intelligence that is in both verbal and nonverbal
performance abilities. The author of the test, David Wechsler, strongly believed that the intelligence
has a global quality that reflects the variety measurable skills (Fahmy, A. 2009). WISC can be use as
diagnostic purposes and can evaluate children with ADHD and other behavior disorders.
Raven s Progressive matrices are tests that are used as an intelligence test and are often used as a
marker for fluid intelligence. There are three forms of progressive matrices such as Coloured
Progressive Matrices for children, a standard set for children and a advanced set for higher ability
populations such as university students and professional. An example of Raven s Progressive Matrices
is the Non verbal test Gesell Developmental Schedules for very young children ( Knobloch
Pasamanick, 1974). Before preschool, the assessment tools for infants measure somewhat different
components of intellectual ability. An example of an oft used test is the Gesell Developmental
Schedules. This test was first introduced in 1925 and has been revised periodically ( Knobloch
Pasamanick, 1974). . The schedules are designed to measure developmental progress of babies and
children from 4 weeks to 5 years. These schedules provide a standardized procedure for observing and
evaluating the developmental attainment of children in five areas ( Knobloch Pasamanick, 1974):

How Grace White became a Partisan
Grace White is a 20 year old woman who lives in poland and is hiding from the nazis and jews.Ever

would always tell her stories about the missions he would go on and how you would get to travel lots

dangerous place to be working but she didn t let that change her mind about being one.
When Grace White got older like in about her late teen years she started to go to look for applications

Norma Health Issues
While chatting, Norma mentioned a couple of things that have helped her successfully age into a
healthy older woman. Norma believes that getting up every day before work to exercise along with
eating well has kept her healthy. I try to eat mainly things that I grow in my garden and raise on our
farm. It not only helps me stay healthy, but I can also save money for retirement, when and if that time
comes around she says laughing. She also says that she tries to keep active with her knitting groups,
gardening, caring for the animals on their hobby farm and the friends that she gets together with

So far so good, I feel great but things can always change in an instant says Norma. As we continued to
talk about health and societies view on aging she really gave off the vibe that she doesn t care too
much about what society thinks but does realize that it is a huge issue for many people. Aging is never
easy and nobody wants to look old but Norma says, Aging is natural and society puts too much
pressure on people to always look young. If you feel young, then you are. One thing I noticed
throughout our conversation was that she strongly credited her faith for being a huge role in, not only
her life, but in her success in being healthy. She believes that because she has been faithful to her
church and to God, that he has blessed her with a healthy life and

Recent Mergers or Acquisitions
Recent Mergers or Acquisitions
A merger or merger of equals is often financed by an all stock deal (a stock swap). An all stock deal
occurs when all of the owners of the outstanding stock of either company get the same amount (in
value) of stock in the new combined company. A merger adds value only if the two companies are
worth more together than apart (Wikipedia, Free Encyclopedia, 2006).
An acquisition (of un equals, one large buying one small) can involve a cash and debt combination, or
just cash, or a combination of cash and stock of the purchasing entity, or just stock (Wikipedia, Free
Encyclopedia, 2006).
Such actions are commonly voluntary and involve stock swap or cash payment to the target. Stock

Irregularities in Othello
Irregularities in Othello
The Shakespearean tragedy Othello contains various irregularities of time and occurrence which cause
the audience to scratch their head in wonder and doubt. Let us analyze some of these shortcomings in
this essay.
In the Introduction to The Riverside Shakespeare Frank Kermode explains one of the difficulties in
Othello:
Othello murders his wife on the second night in Cyprus. The difficulty, of which Shakespeare was
clearly aware, arises from the fact that this leaves no time for her to have had stol n hours of lust,
certainly not to have enjoyed them repeatedly, as Iago alleges. In such allusions to frequent adultery as

It presents the general as an inconsistent character, unable to control his feelings at this time even
though he has a hundred previous times controlled his feelings in exemplary fashion, in the manner of
a general. In her book, Everybody s Shakespeare: Reflections Chiefly on the Tragedies, Maynard
Mack comments on the impropriety of the general s treatment:
Here time present, in which Desdemona speaks and sings, and time future, in which we know she (like
Barbary) is to die from an absolute fidelity to her intuition of what love is and means, recede even as
we watch into a lost time past, when Desdemona had a mother and all love s agonies and complexities
could be comprehended in a song. A song moreover, bringing to her consciousness the sheltered world
in which she grew up, now balanced beside the world she chose. In that other world, her husband
might have been a Venetian gentleman, someone like Lodovico perhaps a proper man, she confides to
Emilia such a man as surely would never strike his wife in public or humiliate her in private as a
common prostitute? (132)
Is it logical for the hero to switch from his initial attitude toward his wife ( As this that I have reach d:

Greek s Influence On The Roman Way Of Life
Greek s Influence on the Roman Way of Life It is no secret that the Greeks have made a huge impact
on how the Romans lived their life. The Romans very much admired the way the Greeks did life, and
did a fine job of adapting it. Rome showed an extraordinary talent for adopting and adapting the best
of other cultures: Etruscan and Greek (Fiero 165). Time after time, we see that the past cultures have
effect on future cultures and the way of living. The past cultures is sort of like a trial and error for the
future societies. Out of the many things that Rome picked up from Greece, there were three that stood
out the most. First, the Romans picked up the Greek style of architecture, using it in some of their
most known buildings. Second, we see the influence of Greece through the Roman art. Third, the
Greeks influenced the Romans through music. The Romans eventually put their own spin on what the
Greek did, but they still adopted most things from the Greek. One of the main areas that we can see
the influence of the Greeks in the Roman Empire is through the architecture that they used. Both
Greece and Rome have some of the most beautiful architectural buildings in the world. The two that
are most notable is the Parthenon in Greece and the Pantheon in Rome. The Romans picked up on the
Greeks most favorite form of architect: the arch. The arch constituted a clear technological advance
over the post and lintel construction used by the Greeks in buildings like the Parthenon

Homecoming Warrior-Personal Narrative
Ten years ago, on June 6, 2006, what seemed to be a regular day turned out to be the worst day of my

How Did England Change During The Reign Of Henry Viii
How did England change during the reign of Henry VIII? The reign of the Tudors control over
England lasted a total of 118 years, starting with Henry VII in 1485 and finishing with the death of
Elizabeth I in 1603 who had no heir to the throne [1]. A lot of the change, to make or become
different[2], accounted for during this period was due to Henry VIII and his hard headed approach to
politics and religion and his passion to be remembered as a warrior and famous king. Henry VIII is
famous for having six wives, however in order to achieve this he had to make colossal modifications
to the countries religion and other aspects of life. Henry VIII and his father Henry VII differed
enormously, they had completely different personalities and aims for their reign as King, Henry VII
turned the country into a peaceful kingdom free from foreign and domestic issues, however Henry
VIII reverted this work and in doing so had spent most of the money his father had left him with,
whilst also reducing the overall income of the crown and treasury. Henry VII To know how England
changed during Henry VIII s reign we must first look at what it was like before he gained control,
when his father Henry VII was in power. Henry VII had a weak claim to the throne from his mother
Margaret Beaufont however the claim that Margaret held was only legitimised on condition that no
descendant ever use it, therefore Henry VII in fact had no claim to the throne[3]. Henry VII claimed
the throne after a victory

An Avid Bird Photographer Working Towards Marketing My Images
As an avid bird photographer working towards marketing my images, I spend hours scouting locations
and finding good opportunities to produce artistic images that showcase bird behavior and
characteristics. The difficult part about bird photography involves carefully approaching and
photographing subjects without causing unnecessary disturbance, while also creating a powerful
image. Contrary to popular belief, even with a long focal length lens, one must patiently wait or
carefully approach a bird with a low profile in order to make a quality image. Recently with wildlife
photography becoming a more popular and competitive field, individuals have been using ethically
questionable methods to produce high quality images. Methods such as baiting birds of prey and
mammalian predators, deliberately flushing birds for flight shots, approaching animals too closely, and
using flash when photographing nocturnal wildlife are being implemented to produce competitive
work.
The stakeholders involved in this situation are wildlife photographers themselves, publications and
individuals viewing and promoting the work, the wildlife photography industry, conservationists, and
the wildlife and ecosystems themselves. It is important to understand the two general sides of the
issue. On one side are the wildlife photographers, the wildlife photography industry, publications, and
those viewing and promoting work. On the other side are conservationists, and the wildlife and
ecosystems themselves.

Scarlet Ibis Quotes
Beyond the Ibis In the story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the Scarlet Ibis portrays how people
must learn to leave those they love alone through representing Doodle and his struggles in life. To
begin, in the middle of the story the Scarlet Ibis sits on a tree in Doodle s backyard, and his parents
think how a storm must have brought it [there] (Hurst 473). First of all, this quote shows how the
storm pushes the bird physically since it ends up in a different region from where it typically lives;
symbolizing how Brother pushes Doodle out of his comfort zone, which would represent the bird s
typical habitat. Furthermore, this push causes Doodle to perish; Brother forces Doodle too much with
his teaching, when he should be letting Doodle rejuvenate. Secondly, before the Ibis takes its final
breath, Daddy comments on how it looks tired , or maybe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

find that Doodle s death has always been imminent, and that he has now died; yet Brother tries to
wake him up or search for any life in him, but like the Ibis, it is too late for Doodle and Brother must
move on; Doodle would not want him to mourn forever. Finally, when the Ibis falls out of the tree and
dies, Brother states how even death did not mar its grace, for it lay on the earth like a broken vase of

Cecil Rhode Confession Analysis
Based on Cecil Rhode s article, Confession , it seems that all he cares is about power. He desired to
have a government that has people with one idea and serve one king instead of serving in another
foreign land. It would mean that since I am an American under the U.S. laws, I cannot go to another
country (e.g. Candada) to serve their king; as a result, Rhodes would call this betrayal and disloyalty
to my country (DR, 2). I would have to agree that betraying the country where your parents raised you
would consider to cause complicated issues, resulting in people calling you a traitor. However, the
king cannot force people to serve their country; otherwise, it would lead to totalitarianism. Christopher
Columbus seized territory from the Native

Goffman Stigma Chapter Summaries
In chapter one of Stigma, Goffman describes different definitions of the term stigma. For example in
the very beginning of the book he describes how early Greeks used the term stigma. He describes how
the Greeks would refer stigma to body markings of different individuals to show how they were
deviant and socially unacceptable in their society at that time. Goffman then describes how in later
Christianity the word stigma and body markings meant a spiritual symbol or a symbol for a physical
disorder. Throughout chapter one Goffman identifies three different types of stigma; body which can
be described as physical, character which is described as internal or personal, and tribal stigma which
could be consider social or even cultural. After identifying these three different stigmas, Goffman then
describes how there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

beginning of chapter two Goffman describes how there is inconsistency between virtual identity and
social identity between individuals, and how those individuals are shamed. Throughout chapter two of
this book, Goffman has eight different subtopics that label and explains information control and
personal identity. Under Social Information, Goffman discusses the importance of how different
symbols mean different things. For example in the book a wedding ring typically means one is
married, this symbol can show prestige or even honor in society. Goffman describes how status

Colonialism And New Imperialism
New Imperialism was the third wave of colonial expansion, precursored by Catholic colonialism in the
sixteenth century and Mercantile colonialism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As the
nineteenth century began, it became apparent that Europe and the United States were the dominant
forces of the world, and that they were in control of defining global society. Proponents of New
Imperialism believed that modern expansionism was necessary for economic, political, and cultural
purposes that would benefit their own country. Furthermore, proponents also believed that
colonization would modernize and incite progress in the civilizations outside of Europe and the United
States. Nonetheless, New Imperialism established deep lines of contempt regarding Western power,
marked with violence, throughout the world. Therefore, New Imperialism was a paltry act done by the
Western world which seems to have produced little benefit. New Imperialism took place from 1870 to
1914. The Western world, including most of Europe, the United States, and Japan, were primed to
dominate the rest of the world. The Enlightenment rationale combined with a Romantic love of
country, which resulted in an explosive combination of ferocious nationalism (Lecture Transcript).
Each country used imperialism to broaden their nations and compete with each other. Michael Johnson
stated that as nationalism grew into a more potent force in the nineteenth century, it became the source
of increased

The Meaning Of Coming Of Age Essay
The statement coming of age means to me that you are given more responsibility to do different
things, you are expected to be more mature and more trust is handed to you. These are just a few of
the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer to
being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more
responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to move
out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you are
supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. With that, you are given

Being mature means you have to know when to stop arguing and to respect others. You will be
expected to act like an adult even if you aren t one because if you don t learn how to before you come

Being mature is one of the key things to be in life. In addition to the following expectations you are
expected to be when coming of age, being trustworthy is another key element to life for if you aren t
trustworthy it s very likely that you won t get hire or get fired from the job because how can someone
give you a task if they don t trust that you ll do it. Being trustworthy means to not only tell the truth at

important for a company to attain, thus, the use of techniques that boost intrinsic motivation is key.
However, the employees were happy because they were paid well. The flip side to that is those older
employees are closes to retirement, and have no intrinsic motivation. They are not motivated in

There are many theories presented on this debate yet there is limited scientific data confirming any
theory. However all theories lead to a similar conclusion, training is needed in order to see
improvement and achieve success. The controversial side is whether genetics is a major factor,
numerous studies conducted lead to the scientifically proven fact that genetics determines your base
level along with your physical peak. To test this, scientists subjected untrained people to the same
training regime in order to see their improvement levels. From this, it was plain to see that some
candidates saw great improvements whilst others saw little. Through further studies it was evident that
those who were related saw similar results, from this we are able to gather that genetics play a major
part in you athletic improvement. Those who saw significant improvements were deemed as high
responders, whilst those who saw little are low responders. Athletes who compete at international

Analysis Of Frank Jackson s Paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia,...
In Frank Jackson s paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia, Jackson rejects physicalism, a philosophical theory
that states that everything in the world that exists, including all that is mental, is physical.
Additionally, physicalists believe that everything in the world can be explained through the laws of
fundamental physics. Furthermore, Jackson uses thought experiments such as Mary s room, in order to
demonstrate the non physical nature that certain experiences can create. Rather, Jackson believes that
these non physical experiences can be explained by information known as epiphenomenal qualia. In
this paper, I argue that Jackson successfully introduces epiphenomenalism and proves his theory that
physicalism is false, since there are certain experiences, or qualia , that we have that can t simply be
explained through physical notions.
In order to fully understand how Jackson came up with his argument, one must first understand what
the words physicalism and epiphenomenal qualia actually mean in relation to Jackson s paper. Jackson
explains physicalism as a certain type of materialism, which is the belief that there s only one main
substance in the world and that is matter, or the physical material that make up the material world.
Materialism essentially rejects substance dualism, which says that there are two different types of
substances that exist, the matter that make up the material world and the mind, which is responsible
for our mental awareness and how we feel

In today s society this media becomes viral at its full effect on social media platforms, most
specifically twitter and facebook as with one post or retweet can cause a chain reaction to even further
distribute the content to expand the audience. Virality is often achieved due to its power to evoke
emotions in a visceral way as well as tell us whole stories in a fraction of the time reading text would
take. ( The Social Media Wildfire. ) The concept of viral media is not subjected to only a certain group
of people but is rather extended to others even if they are not on social media as in many cases videos
that have made it onto international news channels. What makes viral videos viral does not exclude
anyone but is rather meant for a large audience due to it being known for breaking down cultural
barriers by allowing people all over the world to witness significant or interesting events for

Bcg Matrix Is A Model Developed By Bruce Henderson Of The...
The BCG matrix is a model developed by Bruce Henderson of the Boston Consulting Group
(NetMBA). The goal of the BCG matrix was to allow fellow marketers to easily analyze a product,
whether it be old, or new, as to how effective it was in that particular market and if the product was
successful in its overall product growth and market share. When it comes to selling a product, a
company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a piece of the share
of consumers. Therefore, in order to be successful, the use of a model such as the BCG allows a
marketer to assess their competitive advantages as well as the ability to calculate the relative market
share. For example, once you have products that have hit the market and have already established
themselves, you can check back and cross examine those products to see which ones are important to
your success as an organization and which ones you should contemplate scaling back on because these
products may be viewed as questionable. According to NetMBA the BCG matrix contains four key
components; the stars, the cash cows, dogs, and question marks. The stars of the matrix are the go
getters. This part of the mix contains your products that continuously show an increase in growth
industry within the market and a high market share. In other words, these products have been so

earthquake in 2007. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami caused the failure of cooling systems at the

first time a nuclear emergency had been declared in Japan, and 140,000 residents within 20 km of the

going. On 6 May 2011, Prime Minister ordered the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant be shut down, as an

Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War Era Essay
The development and use of nuclear weapons in 1945 changed not only warfare, but how countries
approach warfare as a whole. As Andrew Heywood notes in his book, Global Politics, says that there s
a tendency for any weapons to proliferate or spread. With that knowledge it should be assumed that
many nations would want to obtain nuclear weapons after seeing what the power that they hold. A
state being in possession of a nuclear weapon can deter potential enemies and make them a power on
the global scale. The Cold War era and post Cold War era both saw an in increase in the spread of
nuclear weapons. During the Cold War, after the US first used a nuclear weapon in 1945, states that
gained nuclear capabilities were the France, the UK, China and the Soviet Union. Post Cold War era
India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea all gained nuclear weapons and shows the problem with
proliferation of them. India and Pakistan are neighboring states and rivals which can lead to the
possibility that they could be used at any moment. North Korea is a dangerous militaristic state that
constantly threatens other states. This illustrates that the spread of nuclear weapons is a global
problem because nuclear proliferation can possibly put WMDS, weapons of mass destruction, in the
hands of rival states or extremely dangerous nations. There s also the possibility of them falling into
the hands of non state actors such as terrorists groups. Nuclear proliferation and nuclear

Persuasive Essay About Fire
Ever heard of a story of a little boy discovering fire for the first time? Well this little boy s mom had a
lighter that had a dolphin design on it and it was used as a decoration piece. So, the little boy found the
lighter and started to play with it and got it to work. He then proceeded to go into the bathroom so his
mom did not know what he was doing. The little boy started to put it up to stuff to see what would
happen. The first thing he grabbed was hairspray. He played with the hairspray and the lighter. He then
managed to light the toilet paper on fire which caused the whole bathroom to catch on fire. The boy s
mom ran into the bathroom and started to put out the fire and when it was out she found him in his
room curled up in a ball holding his thumb because he had burned it. This little boy should have
learned a valuable lesson that day. That lesson is that fire is nothing to mess with. Many people do not
realize the risk of playing or not being careful with fire especially in forest and dry plains.
Here is something to think about, being irresponsible around fire can cause someone to get hurt or it
could cause people to lose their home. In 2002 there was four hundred and sixty five homes destroyed
in Arizona because of wild fires (Kennedy and Johnson). Homes could be saved if forest fires did
happen because of humans. A lot of forest fires are started by humans. As many as Ninety percent of

symbol represents something more abstract or different than what the reader originally had thought.
Many symbols were used throughout this play, like the monkey, which symbolizes evolution and the

watchers in the first year. Hasting vision was to start a company that allowed all Americans access to
movies via his based website, which included mailbox delivery. It was a brilliant idea and Netflix has
flourished since the start up. The basis for Netflix was to allow all movie watchers across America to
surf one web based site to find a wide range of movie for their viewing. The most effective part of this
business idea was front door delivery to all mailboxes. This allowed movie renters freedom to surf the
web in their own homes for movies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about My Personal Praxis Statement
My Personal Praxis Statement
As a college student, I often find myself inundated with work. To make it worse, these assignments
usually are uninteresting and irrelevant. It is in the midst of these tedious exercises that I begin to
wonder whether all of this work is worth it. When this issue creeps into my mind, I think back to my
reasons for choosing to pursue this profession. When I started college, I knew that I could not function
in a typical nine to five job. The banality and predictability of such a career simply did not appeal to
me. So that essentially ruled out any course of study which would lead to such an occupation. I also
knew that I wanted a job that would allow me to make a difference in people s lives. ... Show more

I believe that I can pass along my own wisdom while simultaneously helping them to develop a
knowledge base of their own. I believe that I can get through to students and allow them to reach new
realizations. I believe that I can help them to see the process of schooling as an experience that is both
interesting and enlightening. What follows is my interpretation of the teaching profession. It details
the methodological and ideological frameworks that I would use to construct a learning experience
that is meaningful for students.
When looking back on high school, I realize that I typically learned more from teachers who made
their classes interesting. By doing so, these educators utilized student interest as method of building a
desire to learn. They camouflaged learning in the colors of discussion, making it seem as though we
simply were carrying on a normal discourse. But each class inevitably resulted in the acquisition of a
better understanding of the subject material. As a student, I found myself wanting to go to these
classes. The teachers who conducted these courses made education seem enjoyable and thus created in
students a desire to engage in further learning. As a future educator, I would like my class to operate in
a similar manner. I want my class to be one that students look forward to attending. Mine will be an
intellectually open classroom environment one in which

Open Source Software For Database Server
In this task, I will be looking at some open source software for a database server, Web server, file
server, SMTP server, and an LDAP server. I will go over a few in each category and then make my
recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the
First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am
going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and
PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers
a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good
choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to]
implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. If you might need
integration with such RDBMSs, switching from MySQL will not be easy (Tezer 2014). This makes it
not entirely ideal for current situation. When we take a look at PostgreSQL, we see that PostgreSQL is
the advanced, open source [object] relational database management system which has the main goal of
being standards compliant and extensible (Tezer 2014). For the type of work our company is looking
to achieve, it is very important that our database system be both highly secure and standards
compliant. The downside of PostgreSQL is it is considered slower than MySQL and it is not as
popular.

Impact of GSP Plus Status on Pakiston s Economy Essay
IMPACTS OF GSP PLUS STATUS ON PAKISTAN S ECONOMY
During last days Pakistan succeeded to secure the long awaited duty free access to the European
markets for four years, by winning Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status with an
impressive count of votes.
The EU s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) gives developing countries a vital access to EU
markets and contributes to their economic growth by allowing their exporters to pay lower duties on
their exports to the EU.
GSP PLUS status will allow 20 per cent of Pakistani products to enter 27 EU countries without any
tariffs and 70 percent on preferential rates. This would enable Pakistan to export more than one billion
dollar worth textile goods to the international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further government needs to formulate a comprehensive policy to salvage the textile industry because
exporters and manufacturers will not benefit from GSP Plus trade facility if facing the problems like
chronic energy shortages, high cost of production, , worsening law and order and uncompetitiveness in
international markets.
Pakistan have to overcome complacency, inefficiency, corruption, bureaucratic bottlenecks,
infrastructure problems and energy crisis to fully exploit the potential of the GSP plus status that has
recently been given to it by the European Union, said Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman, SouthAsia
Forum.
The status quo also raises questions over the country s ability and preparedness to meet the demand
for textile products of EU countries and benefit fully from the GSP Plus status. Cotton s local demand
is expected to be increasing as Domestic Textile industry may require additional quantity of million
cotton bales during the year. Cotton prices are also increased to Rs.100/Munds in the local market.
These prices might further increase due to restoration of gas supply to Punjab base textile mills.
Cotton production for the next year is also estimated as 13millions bales against the need of 15million
bales to meet post GSP Textile export targets. In Faisalabad almost 50% of the textile units in textile
have been shut down due to cuts in gas

Essay on Diversity Awareness
Diversity Awareness Differences in our society are many, including age, religion, physical and mental
abilities, gender, sexual orientation, income, family or social status, and physical appearance.
Anyplace where differences are found leaves room for stereotypes. Stereotypes are generalizations
about people usually based on inaccurate information or assumptions rather than facts. (Wei, 1996)
Stereotypes do not take into account the great diversity of people within a group of people. Nor do
stereotypes consider the present circumstances of the individual. Even worse, stereotypes can lead to
prejudicial or discriminatory behavior. Most of the observations I made concerning my stereotypypical
behavior circled around rich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My hometown is nothing like the Oxford community; almost everyone in my hometown works in
trade industries which never allow one to live a lavish life. For every arrogant rich person there is a
caring philanthropist that helps people like me and does not flaunt their money. Although the
generalizations I have formed about rich people will be hard to disown, I think that they should
disappear with more contact with members of this group. (Husain, 1996) I also believe that once I
graduate from college and become acquainted with rich people outside of Oxford, I will form new
opinions of them. The second group that I often stereotype are the Asian students at Ole Miss. It seems
that wherever you go around campus you never see them with people of different ethnic backgrounds.
I often see them as antisocial individuals that spend all their time in the library. I have not been around
many Asians and how I perceive them is through the few that attend Ole Miss. I believe that culture
has a lot to do with why I formed the generalizations of Asians. The media often notes that Asians are
academically superior to Americans. Members of the Anglo and African American ethnic groups often
agree that Asians are less than we are to try to gain stature upon one group. I also noted that

Hell. The four lettered word that trembles in the throats of men and children alike; The images of
suffering, flame pits and blood, the smell of burning flesh, the shrieking of those who have fallen from
grace. For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and possibly
secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The early 20th
century philosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartre saw life as an endless realm of suffering
and a complete void of nothingness. His pessimistic ideals of life followed through to his beliefs on
death, as death for him was a final nothingness. If death was a final nothingness, Sartre s view of hell

Common in all religions, sin exists almost as a written law. For Christians it exists in the Ten
Commandments, the seven deadly sins. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre, however,
does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems that his
characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell.
While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are
indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are pathetic
examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why they are
here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and follow it
with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate meaninglessness of one s
life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose and therefore are damned to
suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife.
Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and his
cowardly death shows that he has no real passion. Estelle is the most superficial of the group, the one
with least conviction. She simply uses people to her pleasure and herself as the object of their desire.
Inez sees herself as a quot;damned bitch quot; and believes that she is in fact damned and belongs in
hell.

Prejudice, comformity and stereotyping in American History X
Introduction To The Topic
American History X is a great film that portrays prejudice, stereotyping and conformity. Prejudice is
negative attitudes toward others based on their gender, religion, race, or membership in a particular
group. Prejudice involves beliefs and emotions that can turn into hatred. Having an opinion or idea
about a member of a group without really knowing that individual is a part of prejudice. Some people
make judgments about a whole group of people without knowing very much about them. Sometimes
people are afraid of those who seem different from them and unfortunately, they express that with
name calling and negative treatment. When people grow up with these ideas, sometimes it s hard to
get rid of them. Like in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Analysis Of The Princess And The Frog Disney films over their course of existence have hidden double meanings in many of the films they produce. Rather if you are a child or a full pledged adult, people from all different ages can receive a bit of advice when it comes to what Disney films try to convey in their motion pictures. Disney is also to be known for some of their unforgettable whimsical characters and memorable songs in every film. The film released in 2009 The Princess and The Frog is no different. Especially when it comes to Mama s Odie s musical number half way through the film. Mama s Odie s song, Dig a Little Deeper is full of metaphors, themes and imagery one can deeply analyze. At the same time we can apply the song, Dig a Little Deeper, to various characters we have come to learn and explore through the several novels we have covered over the course of the semester. We can also apply it to the distinct issues pertaining to women in the South. The title of the song itself gives the viewer the overall significant and direct theme of the piece right away. It urges a person to go beyond the surface of a circumstance almost saying as if to go into the root or origin of the matter. To find who a person really is at the core of their being. At the start of the song Mama Odie comes off as a non judgmental person. Don t matter what you look like. Don t matter what you wear. How many rings you got on your finger. We don t care. Being in front of her and don referring to her lack of sight, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jeremy Bentham Research Paper English philosopher, economist, and theoretical judge are only a few words that describe Jeremy Bentham, but one word that really sums up what he was, utilitarianism. Born in February 1748 in London, England. His mother was the daughter of a shop clerk and his father and grandfather was well established lawyer with a small practice, but most of the family s income came from his father s purchase and selling of land. During his early childhood years, Bentham displayed a remarkable gift for learning. By the time he was four years of age his father began to teach Bentham Latin and Greek while sitting on his knee at night. These lessons would prove to be the foundation that Bentham would build on while attending Westminster school where he accelerated in Latin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the age of seven Bentham began learning French and reading books by Burnet s Theory of the Earth, Cave s Lives of the Apostles, Stow s Chronicles, Rapin s History,Gil Blas, Plutarch s Lives, Mandeville s Fable of the Bees, and Clarissa Harlowe . (Victorian web) In 1760 1764 Bentham was accepted and a resident of Queens College, Oxford. It took Bentham only four years to achieve his Bachelor of Arts degree making him one of the youngest to graduate from Queens College at the age of six teen. However, his graduation was all contingent on him swearing to the 39 articles of the Church of England. Bentham had a hard time accepting them and faced a moral dilemma. • 4. Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current... Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since the change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable sub tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion (Rollinson, 2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific management works better with small companies which do not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect attributed to the Fordism model (which adopted Taylorism s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CHRM´s responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and motivation and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin, 2012: 107). Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right people to a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a low cost (Babío et al, 2007: 50). 3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson, 2005: 9). This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4), and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11). • 5. Summary Of The Book Of Judges Women in the book of Judges The Book of Judges talks about ancient Israel, and how they extended their territory by acquiring lands from the non Israelites. The book narrates how Israelites conquered and reclaimed their lost land from non Israelites and how they used to turn from God whenever they are satisfied. But it is written in the Bible that, the guilty are by no means cleared, as Exodus (34:7) says this is the reason why the Lord used several Kings and Judges like Deborah to help the people of Israel find their way back to Him. As the book reveals, it is evident that most of the judges were men (as they were most of the times referred to as Judges). The book talks about a great woman Deborah, also referred to as the bee , as a key judge in the entire book. This book unveils the importance of women (through acts and strengths of Deborah (mainly) and other heroic female characters) and their power to the readers. The Book of Judges narrates six women who are and will always be remembered by their outstanding and remarkable work. They are, Achsah, Deborah, Jael, Japhthah s daughter, Delilah and the identity of two of them is not revealed. O Connor (1980) suggests that, The book of Judges demonstrates this disparity as observed; women assume a vital function in its set up as the volume s subject is marginalization (278). Women are well known in three major roles, that is, being a mother, a daughter or a mate. Despite these limited roles, the Book of Judges shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Early Beginnings Of The Aviation Industry Since the first aircraft launched from a ship, the development of commercial passenger aircraft, to jet fighters and unmanned drone systems of today s age, safety is paramount is not just a catch phrase and is repeated and highlighted in every aspect of aviation in the world. Historically speaking, safety has not always been the most important factor in research, development, and operation and those tragic results often end in loss of aircraft or worse yet, the life of others. This paper will discuss the early beginnings of the aviation industry and highlight some of the more catastrophic events that lead to safety becoming a concern. It will then list and describe some of the legislative actions and regulations that have been established with the evolution of safety standards in the aviation industry. Lastly, this paper will analyze the implementation of safety programs and processes in the workplace and the safety advances in aircraft production and technological systems of airport operations. The Implementations and Impacts of Safety Oversight in the Aviation Industry From the advent of aviation into commercial cargo and passenger transport industry, keeping aircraft flying safely has been reliant on manpower and finances. However, there is another office in the same building and even the same family that garners much less attention: the office of First Lady. For the lack of attention both in historical records, and in public focus, First Ladies throughout the history of the United States have had much more influence and impact than they have been accredited. One such woman, Lucretia Garfield began, in her short term, to change the office of First Lady. Lucretia Garfield challenged the gender normatives of the Gilded Age, and she opened up her role for future First Ladies to exert their bold presence in the White House. Lucretia began her safari into the world of men at a young age, beginning with her education. From the moment she was born, on April 19, 1832 in Garretsville Ohio to parents Zebulon and Arabella Rudolph, Lucretia lived an atypical lifestyle. The Rudolph family, devout Disciples of Christ Church members, engaged with other church members to build the Western Reserve Eclectic Institution in Hiram College. According to, Notable American Women: A Biographical Dictionary, Lucretia Rudolph entered Western Reserve Eclectic Institute in the year 1850 after completing previous studies at Geauga Seminary in Chester Ohio. The difficulty, of which Shakespeare was clearly aware, arises from the fact that this leaves no time for her to have had stol n hours of lust, certainly not to have enjoyed them repeatedly, as Iago alleges. Time after time, we see that the past cultures have effect on future cultures and the way of living. The past cultures is sort of like a trial and error for the future societies. Out of the many things that Rome picked up from Greece, there were three that stood out the most. First, the Romans picked up the Greek style of architecture, using it in some of their most known buildings. Second, we see the influence of Greece through the Roman art. Third, the Greeks influenced the Romans through music. The Romans eventually put their own spin on what the Greek did, but they still adopted most things from the Greek. One of the main areas that we can see the influence of the Greeks in the Roman Empire is through the architecture that they used. Both Greece and Rome have some of the most beautiful architectural buildings in the world. The two that are most notable is the Parthenon in Greece and the Pantheon in Rome. The Romans picked up on the Greeks most favorite form of architect: the arch. The arch constituted a clear technological advance over the post and lintel construction used by the Greeks in buildings like the Parthenon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was my dad s birthday, and my family planned to go to a family friend s house to eat. If I knew then what I knew now, I would have talked my dad out of going because it was the day my life changed. We got ready and headed out to their house. When we came into the house, I remember the house had a strong dog stench, and there was dog hair everywhere. There were so many people when we got there; it was like a family reunion. We greeted everyone, and then headed inside. Everyone sat around and waited for the food to be finished. After thirty minutes, we finally started to eat. • 17. How Did England Change During The Reign Of Henry Viii How did England change during the reign of Henry VIII? The reign of the Tudors control over England lasted a total of 118 years, starting with Henry VII in 1485 and finishing with the death of Elizabeth I in 1603 who had no heir to the throne [1]. A lot of the change, to make or become different[2], accounted for during this period was due to Henry VIII and his hard headed approach to politics and religion and his passion to be remembered as a warrior and famous king. Henry VIII is famous for having six wives, however in order to achieve this he had to make colossal modifications to the countries religion and other aspects of life. Henry VIII and his father Henry VII differed enormously, they had completely different personalities and aims for their reign as King, Henry VII turned the country into a peaceful kingdom free from foreign and domestic issues, however Henry VIII reverted this work and in doing so had spent most of the money his father had left him with, whilst also reducing the overall income of the crown and treasury. Henry VII To know how England changed during Henry VIII s reign we must first look at what it was like before he gained control, when his father Henry VII was in power. Henry VII had a weak claim to the throne from his mother Margaret Beaufont however the claim that Margaret held was only legitimised on condition that no descendant ever use it, therefore Henry VII in fact had no claim to the throne[3]. • 18. An Avid Bird Photographer Working Towards Marketing My Images As an avid bird photographer working towards marketing my images, I spend hours scouting locations and finding good opportunities to produce artistic images that showcase bird behavior and characteristics. The difficult part about bird photography involves carefully approaching and photographing subjects without causing unnecessary disturbance, while also creating a powerful image. Contrary to popular belief, even with a long focal length lens, one must patiently wait or carefully approach a bird with a low profile in order to make a quality image. Recently with wildlife photography becoming a more popular and competitive field, individuals have been using ethically questionable methods to produce high quality images. Methods such as baiting birds of prey and mammalian predators, deliberately flushing birds for flight shots, approaching animals too closely, and using flash when photographing nocturnal wildlife are being implemented to produce competitive work. The stakeholders involved in this situation are wildlife photographers themselves, publications and individuals viewing and promoting the work, the wildlife photography industry, conservationists, and the wildlife and ecosystems themselves. It is important to understand the two general sides of the issue. On one side are the wildlife photographers, the wildlife photography industry, publications, and those viewing and promoting work. • 19. Scarlet Ibis Quotes Beyond the Ibis In the story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the Scarlet Ibis portrays how people must learn to leave those they love alone through representing Doodle and his struggles in life. To begin, in the middle of the story the Scarlet Ibis sits on a tree in Doodle s backyard, and his parents think how a storm must have brought it [there] (Hurst 473). First of all, this quote shows how the storm pushes the bird physically since it ends up in a different region from where it typically lives; symbolizing how Brother pushes Doodle out of his comfort zone, which would represent the bird s typical habitat. Furthermore, this push causes Doodle to perish; Brother forces Doodle too much with his teaching, when he should be letting Doodle rejuvenate. • 23. Colonialism And New Imperialism New Imperialism was the third wave of colonial expansion, precursored by Catholic colonialism in the sixteenth century and Mercantile colonialism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As the nineteenth century began, it became apparent that Europe and the United States were the dominant forces of the world, and that they were in control of defining global society. Proponents of New Imperialism believed that modern expansionism was necessary for economic, political, and cultural purposes that would benefit their own country. Furthermore, proponents also believed that colonization would modernize and incite progress in the civilizations outside of Europe and the United States. Nonetheless, New Imperialism established deep lines of contempt regarding Western power, marked with violence, throughout the world. Therefore, New Imperialism was a paltry act done by the Western world which seems to have produced little benefit. New Imperialism took place from 1870 to 1914. The Western world, including most of Europe, the United States, and Japan, were primed to dominate the rest of the world. The Enlightenment rationale combined with a Romantic love of country, which resulted in an explosive combination of ferocious nationalism (Lecture Transcript). In Frank Jackson s paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia, Jackson rejects physicalism, a philosophical theory that states that everything in the world that exists, including all that is mental, is physical. Additionally, physicalists believe that everything in the world can be explained through the laws of fundamental physics. Furthermore, Jackson uses thought experiments such as Mary s room, in order to demonstrate the non physical nature that certain experiences can create. In this paper, I argue that Jackson successfully introduces epiphenomenalism and proves his theory that physicalism is false, since there are certain experiences, or qualia , that we have that can t simply be explained through physical notions. In order to fully understand how Jackson came up with his argument, one must first understand what the words physicalism and epiphenomenal qualia actually mean in relation to Jackson s paper. Jackson explains physicalism as a certain type of materialism, which is the belief that there s only one main substance in the world and that is matter, or the physical material that make up the material world. The goal of the BCG matrix was to allow fellow marketers to easily analyze a product, whether it be old, or new, as to how effective it was in that particular market and if the product was successful in its overall product growth and market share. When it comes to selling a product, a company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a piece of the share of consumers. Therefore, in order to be successful, the use of a model such as the BCG allows a marketer to assess their competitive advantages as well as the ability to calculate the relative market share. For example, once you have products that have hit the market and have already established themselves, you can check back and cross examine those products to see which ones are important to your success as an organization and which ones you should contemplate scaling back on because these products may be viewed as questionable. • 39. Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War Era Essay The development and use of nuclear weapons in 1945 changed not only warfare, but how countries approach warfare as a whole. As Andrew Heywood notes in his book, Global Politics, says that there s a tendency for any weapons to proliferate or spread. With that knowledge it should be assumed that many nations would want to obtain nuclear weapons after seeing what the power that they hold. A state being in possession of a nuclear weapon can deter potential enemies and make them a power on the global scale. The Cold War era and post Cold War era both saw an in increase in the spread of nuclear weapons. During the Cold War, after the US first used a nuclear weapon in 1945, states that gained nuclear capabilities were the France, the UK, China and the Soviet Union. Post Cold War era India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea all gained nuclear weapons and shows the problem with proliferation of them. India and Pakistan are neighboring states and rivals which can lead to the possibility that they could be used at any moment. North Korea is a dangerous militaristic state that constantly threatens other states. This illustrates that the spread of nuclear weapons is a global problem because nuclear proliferation can possibly put WMDS, weapons of mass destruction, in the hands of rival states or extremely dangerous nations. There s also the possibility of them falling into the hands of non state actors such as terrorists groups. Nuclear proliferation and nuclear disarmament/arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The boy s mom ran into the bathroom and started to put out the fire and when it was out she found him in his room curled up in a ball holding his thumb because he had burned it. This little boy should have learned a valuable lesson that day. That lesson is that fire is nothing to mess with. Many people do not realize the risk of playing or not being careful with fire especially in forest and dry plains. Here is something to think about, being irresponsible around fire can cause someone to get hurt or it could cause people to lose their home. In 2002 there was four hundred and sixty five homes destroyed in Arizona because of wild fires (Kennedy and Johnson). Homes could be saved if forest fires did happen because of humans. Many people often do not attempt to understand the meaning of what a symbol represents. In the play Inherit The Wind, a symbol represents something more abstract or different than what the reader originally had thought. Many symbols were used throughout this play, like the monkey, which symbolizes evolution and the bizarreness and extravagance of the trial. Similarly, the golden dancer symbolizes that all that glitters is not gold and that looks can be deceiving. I will go over a few in each category and then make my recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to] implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. If you might need integration with such RDBMSs, switching from MySQL will not be easy (Tezer 2014). This makes it not entirely ideal for current situation. When we take a look at PostgreSQL, we see that PostgreSQL is the advanced, open source [object] relational database management system which has the main goal of being standards compliant and extensible (Tezer 2014). For the type of work our company is looking to achieve, it is very important that our database system be both highly secure and standards compliant. The downside of PostgreSQL is it is considered slower than MySQL and it is not as popular. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Diversity Awareness Diversity Awareness Differences in our society are many, including age, religion, physical and mental abilities, gender, sexual orientation, income, family or social status, and physical appearance. Anyplace where differences are found leaves room for stereotypes. Stereotypes are generalizations about people usually based on inaccurate information or assumptions rather than facts. (Wei, 1996) Stereotypes do not take into account the great diversity of people within a group of people. Nor do stereotypes consider the present circumstances of the individual. Even worse, stereotypes can lead to prejudicial or discriminatory behavior. Most of the observations I made concerning my stereotypypical behavior circled around rich ... For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and possibly secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The early 20th century philosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartre saw life as an endless realm of suffering and a complete void of nothingness. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre, however, does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems that his characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell. While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are pathetic examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why they are here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and follow it with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate meaninglessness of one s life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose and therefore are damned to suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife. Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and his cowardly death shows that he has no real passion.
