Nitrogen Cycle Lab
For the Nitrogen Cycle Lab, I, along with four other classmates, designed and created a self sustaining
nitrogen cycle. One factor that helped us create a successful self sustaining nitrogen cycle was we
elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of the water flow.
Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to connect two tanks
together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and out of the tank.
Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before we achieved a self
sustaining nitrogen cycle. One major issue that we came across was our holes were bigger than our
tubes. This created several different leaks which caused the water

Four Principles of Management
Four Principles of Management
Jacqueline Garcia
University of Phoenix
November 10, 2007
Many Fortune 500 companies have management training programs. A company must always have the
competitive edge over its competitors. These companies must invest in creating curriculums to help
the mangers create motivation in the employees as well as attain the goals set forth by the corporation.
According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, management is the act or manner of
managing: handling, direction, or control; skill in managing, the person or persons controlling and
directing the affairs of a business institution, etc. A great manager must know and implicate the four
major principles of management. The principles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The organization needs to have open communication at all times so the employees feel comfortable in
voicing opinions and complaints. Management must always be motivating the team because of the
highly stressful environment. Motivation comes in the form of verbal praise to monetary incentives at
the end of every month. This is a gear that must be in constant motion to make the employees happy
and efficient.
The final principle is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring performance and
making the necessary changes (Bateman, 2007). Keeping an eye on things is the way to be absolutely
certain that everything is going according to plan. Problems will arise but this is why the plan
executed in the beginning will help to create solutions.
Bank of America, being so large, is monitored all the time. We must adhere to state and federal laws
and regulations. Meetings are done frequently to address issues that are happening around the United
States which may directly or indirectly affect performance. The manager of each team monitors the
individuals with all the high tech screens on their computers. Controlling what can be controlled and
having a contingency plan for when problems occur keep the bank at its high peak in the financial
realm.
The four management principles are applied to all great companies. Planning helps set the stage for
the organizing the team to its appropriate places. Leading generates loyalty, and

Babe Ruth Research Paper
Going, going, GONE is the deadball era. George Herman Ruth Jr, known to everyone else as babe
ruth, was a complete game changer of baseball. Ruth was one,if not the best, baseball player of all
time due to his new impressive power. Back in the 1910s power hitting was cast away, a result from
that is a limited home run number. Ruth innovated his swing to be more of a power hitter not a contact
hitter. Ruth started going yard at batting practice...as a pitcher. With that, Babe Ruth should be
regarded as the most innovative to the game ever.
To start off, Babe ,started young at the age of 19 and, was a southpaw for the Boston Red Sox. Babe
threw 23 Innings with a decent 3.91 ERA (BaseballReference.com). Who knew this 19 year ... Show

As soon as his power and pop came to the game home runs are no longer every few weeks they are
every few hours. Ruth brought back power. Home run records he made were even broken in time:
Aaron played two out of three games, tying Babe Ruth s record in his very first at bat off Reds pitcher
Jack Billingham, but did not hit another home run in the series (Can t find author). Records are meant
to be broken. Without Ruth these records might have never been accomplished. It s hard to wrap the
mind around the fact that some records aren t meant to be broken. It s not impossible but it s gonna
take one heck of a player: Record: Babe Ruth, .847 in 1920 Closest since 2000: Todd Helton .698 in
2000 In 1920, Babe Ruth managed to hit for a .847 SLG while leading the league in almost every
offensive category. No one has even broken .700 since 2000. Better pitching, increased pitching
changes and the fact that there will never be another Babe, as well as better fielding, all contribute to
making this record unbreakable (77 MLB Records That Will Never Be Broken, By Jacob Small). Who
knows Babe Ruths records may be dethroned one day. Until then his records are almost 100 years old.
Babe is by far one of the greatest impacts on baseball since the inventer.
Furthermore, Babe Ruth has been a massive change to the baseball we know today. Without Ruth
maybe baseball might have never left the deadball era, or it would have taken a long time. The Great

Persuasive Speech On Table Etiquette
As kids, most of us would have heard our parents ranting chew your food properly or keep your
elbows off the table ; their continuous effort to instil these habits was our first encounter with table
etiquettes. As we grew older they mellowed down our parents I mean for we had, by then learnt not to
spray our food at other people while trying to accomplish the task of chewing and talking apart of
course from other basic mannerisms that enabled us to act like mature adults for a major part of it.
Fast forward to the present food still remains a major fixture in our everyday world. Though (as kids)
we had mastered the art of eating, we are still not masters of the art. Many of us often find ourselves
going through a minor fit when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody likes to be a part of a conversation with flying breadcrumbs coming at them at supersonic
speeds. This holds true even when you are at a fast food place. Do one thing at a time, either eat or
talk.
Where does the napkin go?
Where to place the napkin creates quite a bit of confusion. You pick the napkin unfold it to your side,
not over the table or your plate. Fold it in half and place it on your lap with the loose ends away from
you. If you need to use the napkin to wipe your mouth, you just lift the top half of the fold and gently
wipe any spills.
The napkin never gets back onto the table right through the meal. It is placed back on the table only
when you are finished eating. If you have to excuse yourself between courses, you can scrunch the
napkin and leave it on your seat. Do not leave it on the table.
Fork it right
Most people mess this one up. If you are not used to eating with cutlery at home, then you ll be
struggling when you have to use it. Remember, to always hold the fork in your left hand and use the
right hand for the knife. This eases the process of cutting your food into smaller pieces and allows you
to easily adjust your bite size. Use the fork to shift the food into your

The VA Health Care System Essay
The VA (Veterans Affair) Health Care System is one of the largest, most advanced health care
networks in the U.S. The VA Health Care System is the provider for veterans, retirees and their
dependents and manages all their health care. The VA Health Care is actually one part of the
Department of Veterans Affairs. There is also VA Benefits Administration which has to do with
compensations and pensions. Then the other part of the VA is the National Cemetery Administration
which is in charge of the cemeteries and providing burial and memorial benefits. All these parts make
up the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA History)

the National Cemetery System (except Arlington National Cemetery) was transferred to the Veterans
Administration from the department of the Army. The VA was charged with operating the Cemetery
System this includes marking all the graves of veterans in national and state cemetery s and
administering the State Cemetery Grants Program. The Department of Veterans Affairs was
established as a cabinet level position on march 15 1989 under President Bush (senior), he addressed
the creation of this new department saying, there is only one place for the veterans of America, in the

One of the services the VA offers to veterans is Pensions. To receive pension benefits a veteran must

Cost of Capital
Cost of Capital
Definition: cost of capital is the rate of return that a company must earn on its project investments to
maintain its market value and attract funds. The cost of capital to a company is the minimum rate of
return that is must earn on its investments in order to satisfy the various categories of investors, who
have made investments in the form of shares , debentures and loans. The cost of capital in operational
terms refers to the discount rate that would be used in determining the present value of the estimated
future cash proceeds and eventually deciding whether the project is worth undertaking or not. It is

* Marginal cost of capital Marginal cost of capital is the weighted average cost of new funds raised by
the firm. For capital budgeting and financing decisions, the marginal cost of capital is the most
important factor to be considered.
Cost of debt : Cost of debt is the interest rate that the company pays on its debt content of the capital
structure. It can be measured as before tax cost of debt or after tax cost of debt. Tax plays an important
role as the debenture interest expense is allowed as an expense for tax purposes. Debt may be issued at
par, at premium or at a discount. It may be irredeemable or redeemable.
Cost of Irredeemable debt: Irredeemable debentures are those debentures issuing by which the
company has no obligations to pay back the value of the debenture on some fixed date or time and has
the full authority to choose any time to pay back the debt until the company is a going entity and does
not default in it s interest payments. So we take into account only the sale value (SV) while evaluating
the cost of irredeemable debentures.
Cost of Redeemable debt: For redeemable debentures, the maturity date is fixed initially. The meaning
redeemable denotes that the debentures would be redeemed by the company at a fixed date or after a
specified period of notice. So, we take the average of Sale Value and Redeemable value while
calculating the cost of redeemable debentures.

Bronze Age Catastrophes
The Bronze Age started around 2300 BC in Europe and it consisted of the new found material of
bronze. It was an important development in many cities during the time. Bronze was used for a
multitude of items including weapons, chariot parts, tools, decorative objects, and ritual vessels. The
bronze age eventually came to an end because of four major catastrophes that came around 1200 BC
that help shape the first millennium. Climate change, migration, new technology, and administrative
innovations was the origin of this change. One of the first catastrophe that came and helped end the
bronze age was climate change. Around 1200 BC many regions in Afro Eurasia were used to having

Walter Mitty Reflection
In the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, for me, it shows a very unique storyline that a film may
have. Personally, I think that it was interesting to watch this movie when one is about to feel down of

whatever things that I had done before or everything that I may do in the future.
Why do I live on this Earth? Based on the motto of LIFE Magazine, I think that in every step that we
take, there are pros and cons that we may face. To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see

Slim Fast Diet
The Slim Fast Plan________________________________________
Since I mostly snack/or eat low calories, and have one main meal daily, the slim fast diet plan seems
to fit my personal lifestyle. I have learned that all food is not created equally, and we are
recommended to have proteins, fats, and mostly carbs make up our daily calories. I found the Paleo
diet fascinating (no carbs!) with an interesting menu, but I felt compelled to research the Slim Fast
plan.
History
Slim Fast diet has been around since 1977. The diet plan started out with powdered mixes that contain
nutrients which you mixed with milk, then the more convenient premixed cans were created to replace
two of your meals, also you could have one main meal of real solid food. Today, the company has
incorporated a vast variety of replacement foods, like frozen entrees, meal and snack bars. The modal
still is to eat a low calorie diet with nutrients included, plus they advise exercising. Their new products
have a variety of nutrients added and calorie counts. They continue to created products that may entice
more dieters, for instance their new sugar free line, advanced nutrition has nutrient claims of 20 grams
of high protein with only 1 gram of sugar. The label offers the health claim of being good for
prediabetes, it is lactose and gluten free, and can maintain muscle tone without reducing carbs. ...

Mental Disorders In Veterans
When a soldier comes home from their deployment, whether it be their first or fourth, they go through
an extreme amount of pressure and stress as they go through a transition back into being a civilian.
Many soldiers experience some sort of mental or physical injury while they were deployed, and many
last forever if they are not treated properly. According to Issues and Controversies (Facts on File), in
2011, roughly 320,000 veterans returning from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars had experienced a
traumatic brain injury while they were deployed. In addition, 300,000 veterans from the Iraq and
Afghanistan wars have suffered from PTSD and/or depression. To add to the mental ailments veterans
suffer from, many also live with physical injuries that impair their ... Show more content on

Due to the events they have experienced, veterans are constantly reminded of what happened during
their deployment. Simple things like a car tailing a veteran too close can trigger flashbacks to their
tour which can cause harm to both the veteran and the public. In a 2010 survey conducted by the
Naval Health Research Center (San Diego) funded by the Marine Corps, 1,543 Marines with at least
one combat tour [finds] that Marines who had reported PTSD symptoms [are] more than six times as
likely to engage in antisocial and aggressive behaviors than those who did not report PTSD symptoms
(Morris 2). This shows that after deployment the men who have PTSD or an illness like it can be
easily triggered by the slightest factor, which could cause the veteran to harm himself or other people.
Without proper treatment of these illnesses, the behaviors that sprout from them could easily harm
others or the veteran himself. The result of not treating these illnesses properly are very common, and
many people do not hear these events because of many news sources choose to never report on events
like these. In 2013, PTSD was, reportedly linked Monday to the man who allegedly killed 12 people at

Summary Of The Bitter Pill
The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as to
why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors,
and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and
gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United States spent more money on
healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price
tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on
healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system
produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the
charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per
year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the
countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one
pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many
similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small
portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often
asked to pay excessive prices.
Strengths
Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it
still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the
major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some
technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay,
or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional
patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to receive their test
results sooner or on the estimated arrival date.
Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions

Ph-Amylase Lab Report
The Effect of pH levels on the Rate of Activity of ⍺ Amylase
Ryan Andrew
Introduction:
Enzymes are some of the most important chemicals in the human body. Without them, humans and
many other organisms would simply be unable to live. Our dependence on enzymes comes from their
nature as biological catalysts, substances that speed up chemical reactions without being used up or
changed (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). They allow chemical reactions in our body to occur at a
rate that is acceptable for our cells metabolism (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). Enzymes are able
to do this by binding to their substrate or substrates, the molecules they react with, and either breaking
it down or combining them to form a new molecule (Wilbraham et ... Show more content on

Amylase is the name of a group of enzymes that break starch down into smaller molecules like
maltose or glucose (Encyclopedia Britannica, 1998). ⍺ amylase is the amylase that is found in many
mammals, including humans, in whom it can be found in saliva or the small intestine (Encyclopedia
Britannica, 1998). As this is such an important topic for the world, many studies have been done to
investigate the effects of pH on amylase. Two such experiments, one by Supannapong et al., and one
by Tizon, Serrano and Traifalgar, both found that amylase activity peaked somewhere between a pH of
6 and 7, which fits in with most of the information available on this enzyme (2007; 2012). The aim of
this experiment was to investigate the effect that different pH levels had on the rate of activity of the
enzyme ⍺ amylase. It was hypothesised that pH levels below and above 7 would result in a consistent
decrease in the ability of the amylase to break starch down into glucose, and therefore the rate of
activity of amylase and the amount of glucose in the solution, until the amylase became denatured to
the point at which it no longer could react with the starch, at which point the reaction would stop, and
further changes in pH level would have no effect. This is because ⍺ amylase s natural environment, in
saliva or near the pancreas, has a pH level of approximately 7 (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). As
such, any notable shift from a pH level of 7 will result in increasing levels of

The Socratic Method And Nietzsche s Objections
The Socratic Method and Nietzsche s Objections
In Plato s apology, the story is told of how Chaerephon, friend of Socrates, went to the temple at
Delphi to ask the oracle a question pertaining to the wisdom of Socrates, and how it compares to the
rest of the men on earth. He asked if any man was wiser than I, and the Pythian replied that no one
was wiser (Plato). This response was very confusing to Socrates because he recognized that he was
not wise at all, and it troubled him for some time. Socrates then tries to refute the oracle by bringing a
supposedly wise man from town to the temple to show the Pythian that he was wrong, but when they
get there, Socrates realizes that the wise man was not wise at all, and neither of them knew ... Show

Socrates starts this method of elenchus by questioning a supposedly wise person about the definition
of certain virtues. For example, in Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates asks Euthyphro what piety is. After
this, the person gives their definition of that virtue. In Plato s Euthyphro, Euthyphro s answer is I say
that the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the wrongdoer, be it about murder or temple
robbery or anything else, whether the wrongdoer is your father or your mother or anyone else; not to
prosecute is impious (Plato). After this, Socrates proves the persons definition wrong through the use
of examples, and then another definition is given, and the process repeats itself. Therefore the Socratic
Method has three steps: the definition is given, Socrates refutes the definition with examples, and then
another definition is given. This process then repeats itself until the person who thought they knew
something realizes they knew nothing at all. Socrates operates under the assumption that philosophical
inquiry into virtue must take nothing for granted. Therefore he leaves no rock unturned when looking
into virtue, and completely debunks circular definitions when they are given to him. Friedrich
Nietzsche was a German philosopher in the late 1800 s who agreed with Socrates that the unexamined
life is not worth living, however he disagrees with the Socratic

Extracellular Compartments Essay
1. Extracellular compartment(ECF) is affecting the early fluid loss.
2. The loss of sodium ions contributes to dehydration because it s causing the fluid to shift out of the
bloodstream and into cells.
3. Some of the early signs of dehydration Mr. K.B. is showing are dizziness, sunken eyes, dry mouth,
low blood pressure, and his pulse and respirations are rapid.
4. The expected pH level would be greater than 7.45 after the early vomiting.
5. Due to the loss of fluid and electrolytes the body will be compensate by increasing thirst, increasing

The serum sodium levels appear to be higher than normal because the water is shifting from the ECF
into the intracellular compartments (ICF).
8. High serum sodium levels affect ICF because it s causing the ICF levels to increase, which is
affecting how the cells are operating. This cause hypovolemia and the decrease of blood pressure.
Because of the shift in the ICD, the cells will swell causing it to decrease its ability to function
followed by a ruptured cell.
9.
a. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the blood volume will decrease as well, causing dehydration,
meaning ECF will shift to ICF.
b. If fluid loss is continuing to happen the, cell function will decrease as well or it ll stop working

c. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the kidney may over work itself. Because of the dehydration,
the kidney is trying to compensate by making concentrated urine.

Technical Theatre
I ve never had an appreciation for technical theatre until I was thrust into the spotlight. Or, I should
say shadows, because to the audience, I didn t exist. My teachers tasked me with operating the sound
board for the upcoming play. Unfortunately, my tech theatre skills left much to be desired, since I had
zero experience in the tech booth. Rather than being the usual marionette, entertaining the masses, I
became one of the many strings that kept it moving. Being part of a play is a social activity, you re
always in the company of your cast or crew, talking and getting work done. Even when an actor went

audience gasp at the sound. A powerful euphoria consumed me. Of course, the show was far from
over, but I felt like taking off my headset and slamming it to the ground like a winning touchdown. I
executed the problematic cue that caused me grief during rehearsals. Fortunately, we didn t have any
other problems. The cast members were rewarded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation. I
cheered with the audience, but I couldn t help feeling envious of the actors. That feeling quickly
dissipated when the cast raised their arms, gesturing towards the tech booth. They acknowledged our

Characters In Godspell
Godspell is a musical that is not based in any specific time, but is a brief condensed version of the
New Testament. Specifically related to the Works of Jesus and his followers while he was on earth.
The setting is up to the director to decide. In this case it is set in the highline of New York City. In
previous productions it has been based in a circus setting which can lead the actors to portray a more
sophomoric humor approach to acting. In this show most of the actors don t shy that far from that style
but they tone it down. One thing that does re occur throughout the show is a kind of double acting. As
they portray actors acting the parables. A kind of puppet acting also occurs as there will be a narrator
and actors mouthing along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them to
heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However, they
would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as his character
is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only from the standpoint
of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the lives of others. There is not
a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his purpose actually was while he
was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters in check. As if he was a teacher
keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself up as a sacrifice and dies. However
the actions of this show portray it that he accepts that he is going to be killed and there isn t anything
he can do about it. There is no clear actions that gives the audience faith that he could actually stop
this from happening to himself. The entire cast has a strong chemistry. And is needed in this show as
there are many cases where there are simultaneous things going on that require actions to line up with
lines of others. He does not exactly keep the cast together like his character probably should but he
does specifically lead the character of Judas in the song All for the Best. He has very clearly mastered

Scour King Mattress
Scour first king sized or California king mattresses
These have the biggest sizes that the ready made mattress industry has to offer. This can fit bigger
people with some more room to spare for your kids to hop into bed. If you cannot find the right height
or width, then go for the customized beds.
Choose a mattress company that custom makes beds. This way you have the upper hand on how large
you would want your mattress to be. Make sure you measure your room first so the mattress can easily
fit. If it cannot fit in your door, tell the manufacturers to disassemble the bed first and install it in the
room instead rather than delivering it fully made.

The drought in California isn t even close to seeing an end, in the article Solutions to California Water

Optometrist Application Narrative
Many children and adults are unsure about going to the eye doctor. The word optometrist alone is
difficult to say, but for many the fear may lie in the uncertainty of how the doctor can look beyond the
general outside of the eye and tell exactly what is making vision difficult or the cause of pain. I began
understanding this at an early age.
My interest in the anatomy of the eye began when I was a small child. I was 8 years old when my
father experienced retinal detachment in the first eye. I didn t understand a whole lot of what was
happening when my brother and I were whisked up and on a plane to a hospital in Portland for
surgery. During the long wait, my mother began describing what was happening in my father s eye. I

This helped me solidify my interest in helping people with their vision and eye care. I was able to pick
up on how an optometrist goes about his day to day activities and talked with a few of them about the
business side of their practice. Recently, before applying to schools, I was hired at a local optometry
office close to Boise State. The job as a pre tester has allowed me to be trained in using a tonometer,
auto refractor, visual field machine, optomap, and the OCT machine. I have had a vast experience
working in the private practice and really can see myself in an office similar to this one. The job has
been all I have expected and ensured my career choice for serving people in vision health care and
becoming an optometrist. Shadowing and working as a pre tester have given me first hand exposure to
the field of optometry. From the first time I looked through a slit lamp I knew I was on track to doing
something I would be devoted to. Experiencing different types of practices allowed me to think about
what type of practice I want to work in when I am older. I can envision myself working in a private
practice with fellow optometrists. I would enjoy working at a practice that is multifaceted involving
specialty practice in pediatric eye care and sports vision therapy, as well as providing routine exams

Taking a Look at Hydroelectric Energy
Hydro electric energy (hydropower) has been in existence for more than 2000 years ago, which was
firstly used for milling, grain, pumping of water and so many more before been used for energy
generation. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water as the
resource for generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided by
gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is converted into mechanical
energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical
energy which is then transferred to power lines in that form. South Africa, like many other developing
countries have electricity challenges and one company in South Africa have been the leader in terms
of ensuring that South Africa is powered by hydro electric energy, among other alternative such of
power. The company is Eskom, South African largest producer of electrical energy, since it was
established in 1923. Eskom have committed to promote health environmental programs in line with
the guideline of UNFCCC, and in its COP 17 fact sheet Eskom states thus: Eskom provides 95% of
South Africa s electricity . The main source of Eskom s electricity generation is thermal power plants.
And even though according to electricity web link, Eskom disclose that, the company relies on coal
fired power stations, to produce more than 80% of the electricity. Furthermore, in order to subsidize

quot;I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude. quot; Thoreau liked
solitude, a time when he wrote from his soul and was truly alone. Thoreau s love for nature was one of
the most powerful aspects evident in Walden.
Considered by some to be the father of the environmental movement, Thoreau referred back to nature
in everything he wrote from essays to political speeches. As a simple man, Thoreau did not own many
material things. For he believed that to own material objects were an obstacle, rather than an
advantage. He saw that most people measured self worth in terms of what they owned, rather than
their spiritual and intellectual gifts.
Thoreau proposed to live as simply as possible and determine what he needed for basic human
survival. quot;My greatest skill is to want but little. quot; He grew his own food, cleaned his own
cabin, and often arranged his affairs so he had to work as little as possible. Published on August 9,

Man For All Seasons Corruption
The play in A Man for All Seasons, written by Robert Holt in the 1960s, retells the story of King
Henry the VIII, his separation from the Church, and how his chancellor Thomas More resisted all
attempts from the King to make him approve of the action. This story confirms that management of
political power corrupts the minds and hearts of groups and individuals, such as Cromwell and King
Henry VIII, but for some, such as Thomas More, it teaches them the importance of integrity and
remaining faithful to one s own truths. While political power itself is not evil, it is still an effective

Because of his constant cultivation of character and regular remembrance of principles, More was
strong enough to withstand the corruption of power. Even with his life threatened, he never allowed
himself to waver. More still clearly saw the principles of truth and integrity and realized the value of
it. He silently but resolutely resisted the King s attempts to break him, until his death
Power itself is not evil, and never has been. It s only a tool. But there are temptations of power;
temptations of absolute control, fame, and gain. People stumble underneath the pressure of these
enticements, because their character and moral strength are not established enough. People like this,
like Master Rich, are so eager to achieve that fame or absolute control, that they willingly relinquish
their better judgement and good character. Often this happens through other men of corruption and
carnal desires. But, even among hosts of weak and stumbling men, Thomas More remains steadfast to
his beliefs and principles, valuing integrity and wisdom far higher than fame and popularity. While the

Thomas More, it awakens them to the dangers of lust for power and tutors them on the importance of

Biographical Interpretation Essay
Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way
to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath s poem
Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we
know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read
Daddy I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either
an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says
I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with
him. Maybe he was abusive or mean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daddy is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her
husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, /
A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her
father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to prove to her that he was really dead.
Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone
who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad
relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me
come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with
him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia
Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying
and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep,
dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem
is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when
she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many
symbolic phrases that could

they act much more out of immediate desires or passions rather than the rational desires that adults
have Oaks (2012). In November 1997, Mattel announced the creation of a global code of conduct for
its production facilities and contract manufacturers. Called the Global Manufacturing Principles
(GMP), the code covered such issues as wages and hours, child labor, forced labor, discrimination,
freedom of association, legal and ethical business practices, product safety and product quality,
protection of the environment, and respect for local cultures, values, and traditions. This process led to
the development of more than 200 specific standards. They define the compliance parameters for each
principle and cover all aspects of manufacturing operations; environment health and safety standards;
worker hiring and training; working conditions; working hours, performance bonuses, wages, and
overtime; conditions in dormitories and recreational facilities; and non job related skill enhancement
programs. The China document alone is 60 pages long. Similar compliance documents were prepared
for 20 other countries where Mattel had operations. These documents are continuously revised in light
of changes in local labor and environmental laws. Honesty A virtue such as honesty or generosity is

Strategic Intent
Harvard Business Review Jb revitalize corporate performance, we need a whole new model of
strategy. May funel989 STRATEGIC INTENT by Gary Hamel and C.K. Prahalad oday managers in
many industries are working hard to match the competitive advantages of their new global rivals. They
are moving manufacturing offshore in search of lower labor costs, rationalizing product lines to
capture global scale economies, instituting quality circles and justin time production, and adopting
Japanese human resource practices. When competitiveness still seems out of reach, they form strategic
alliances often with the very companies that upset the competitive halance in the first place. Important
as these initiatives are, few of them go beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think back. In 1970, few Japanese companies possessed the resource base, manufacturing volume, or
technical prowess of U.S. and European industry leaders. Komatsu was less than 35% as large as
Caterpillar (measured by sales), was scarcely represented outside Japan, and relied on just one product
linesmall bulldozers for most of its revenue. Honda was smaller than American Motors and had not
yet begun to export cars to tbe United States. Canon s first Tbe lesson is clear: assessing the current
tactical advantages of known competitors will not help you understand the resolution, stamina, and
inventiveness of potential competitors. Sun tzu, a Chinese military strategist, made the point 3,000
years ago: All men can see the tactics whereby I conquer, he wrote, but what none can see is the
strategy out of which great victory is evolved. y Sy ompanies that have risen to global leader( ship

Crooks American Dream
1. The impossibility of the American Dream Most of the characters in Of Mice and Men admit, at one
point or another, to dreaming of a different life. For example, before Curley s wife death, she
confesses her desire to be a movie star. Also, Crooks allows himself the pleasant fantasy of hoeing a
patch of garden on Lennie s farm one day, and Candy latches on desperately to George s vision of
owning a couple of acres. Before the action of the story begins, circumstances have robbed most of the
characters of these wishes. Curley s wife, for instance, she has resigned herself to an unfulfilling
marriage. What makes all of these dreams typically American is that the dreamers wish for
untarnished happiness and the freedom to follow their own desires. ... Show more content on

Loneliness is present throughout this novel. For example, this isolation is shown when the ranch hands
go into town on Saturday night to ease their loneliness with alcohol and women. Similarly, Lennie
goes into Crook s room to find someone to talk, and later Curley s wife comes for the same reason.
Crooks says, A guy goes nuts if he ain t got nobody. Don t make no difference who the guy is, long s
he s with you . (72) Even Slim mentions, I seen the guys that go around on the ranches alone. That ain
t no good. They don t have no fun. After a long time they get mean. (41) George s taking care of
Lennie and the dream of the farm are attempts to break the pattern of loneliness which is part of the
human condition. Lennie s desire to pet soft things comes from his need to feel safe and secure, to
touch something that gives him that feeling of not being alone in the world. For Lennie, the dream of
the farm parallels that security. However, George and Lennie are not the only characters who struggle
against loneliness, the theme of loneliness is most notably present in Candy, Crooks, and Curley s
wife. They all fight against their isolation in whatever way they can. For example, until its death,
Candy s dog stopped Candy from being alone in the world. After its death, Candy struggles against
loneliness by sharing in George and Lennie s dream. Curley s wife is also lonely

Imperialism In Hawaii Speech
According to the information present in the speech given by a man named, Sanford J Dole, the
Americans imperializing Hawai i was a constructive motion. This is due to the fact that throughout the
speech, Dole informs his audience on the benefits both the Hawaiians and Hawai i would gain through
Hawai i being a territory of the United States(US). The speech was given on June 10th, 1900, at Iolani
Palace, after Dole was elected to be the governor of the Territory of Hawai i. As the speech is an
original document, it is a primary source. Based on the information provided in the speech, the
message Dole is trying to convey is that the day Hawai i became a territory of the US, is one of the
most important days in Hawaiian history. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This primary source assists in answering the question, Was imperialism constructive or deconstructive,
as it gives numerous examples of how the US imperialising Hawai i was constructive. The examples
included the ways the Hawaiians and Hawai i benefited from being a territory of the US. Since the
speech gives a clear western perspective on the US imperialising Hawai i and clearly shows the
audience whether imperialism was constructive or destructive for a western perspective, it is valuable.
Therefore, the examples and the clear perspective provided assists in answering the overall question of
whether imperialism was constructive or destructive. Regardless of the valuable information sources
possess, they all also have limitations. The first limitation of the source is that the speech doesn t show
both sides of imperialism. This is because the speech only demonstrates how imperialism was
constructive, and doesn t state anything about how it may have been destructive. Another limitation is
that the speech was written from a western perspective, therefore it was written from the perspective
of the people from the country that was

The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights
Megan King
English 4
Mr. Kula
November 18th, 2014
CLAIM: The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights.
The administration of President Vladimir Putin has chosen to abridge civil liberties in Russia and
demolish the growing power of nongovernmental democratic institutions. The government has
embarked on a strategy crush any opposing viewpoints and reinforce its own dominance. In July 2012,
Vladimir Putin went into action to suppress the basic human rights of Russians. The three fundamental
freedoms of assembly, association and speech were treated to fierce legal restriction. The Government
chose to ignore parliamentary procedures and numerous protests; many experts believe, that the new
laws governing demonstrations, NGOs [non governmental organisations], the libel and the legal
regulation of the Internet are proof that these three rights have not only been restricted, but effectively
terminated.
In the case of the homophobic laws, the government s motives are clear: to mobilise the support of the
most conservative section of Russian society. This primitive law that bans the so called promotion of
homosexuality , which openly institutes legal discrimination based on sexual identity. In Russia there
is severe criticism of homosexuality. Homosexuals are publicly abused with the tormentors facing no
legal punishment. LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender] people are being targeted by anti
gay propaganda and foreign agent laws; tormentors claim to be

Vimy Ridge Identity
The battle of Vimy Ridge is so important to developing Canada s identity because majority of the men
who fought at Vimy were citizens of Canada, the battle was commanded by a Canadian, and Canadian
soldiers were known as shock troops. The Battle of Vimy Ridge would be the first time all four
divisions of the Canadian Corps worked together as one formation. The task fell to the Canadian army
to take the ridge. Canadian troops were Fishermen from British Columbia, prairie farmers, workers
from Ontario and Quebec, and miners from Nova Scotia prepared for battle. These men were regular
people who proved that under extreme hardship, Canadians could get the job done. For Canada it was
one of the defining events in our history where Canadian troops

The Problem Of Homeless Heroin Injectors For A 10 Year Period
The public rarely pays close attention to homeless people on the streets. There is one kind of
homelessness that have dedicated their lives to heroin; these people call themselves righteous
dopefiends . Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg became part of the daily lives of these homeless
heroin injectors for a 10 year period in Edgewater Boulevard. Through various interviews with the
addicts, we came to find out their shocking personal histories that led to their addiction and
homelessness. These Edgewater homeless came from different ethnic backgrounds, however, they
shared two common things; all of them were homeless and were addicted to heroin. They lived in
dead end alleyways, storage lots, vacant factories, defective cars, and highway embankments (4). The
reason they labelled themselves as righteous dopefiends was because believed they were worthy in
society, despite their actions. Going through ceaseless pain and anxiety of hunger, exposure, infectious
diseases was reasonable to them because of their commitment to heroin (5). Throughout my paper, it
will show that medication has an important implication in the lives of the homeless heroin injectors.
Moral expectations in the Edgewater drug community is based on sharing, fairness, and justice (6).
This type of economy is perfect for small communal societies, where their motto is to get mutual aid
in order to avoid the free rider problem. Members of the community pool their money together to
purchase heroin, and

  • 2. Nitrogen Cycle Lab For the Nitrogen Cycle Lab, I, along with four other classmates, designed and created a self sustaining nitrogen cycle. One factor that helped us create a successful self sustaining nitrogen cycle was we elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of the water flow. Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to connect two tanks together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and out of the tank. Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before we achieved a self sustaining nitrogen cycle. One major issue that we came across was our holes were bigger than our tubes. This created several different leaks which caused the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A company must always have the competitive edge over its competitors. These companies must invest in creating curriculums to help the mangers create motivation in the employees as well as attain the goals set forth by the corporation. According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, management is the act or manner of managing: handling, direction, or control; skill in managing, the person or persons controlling and directing the affairs of a business institution, etc. A great manager must know and implicate the four major principles of management. The principles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The organization needs to have open communication at all times so the employees feel comfortable in voicing opinions and complaints. Management must always be motivating the team because of the highly stressful environment. Motivation comes in the form of verbal praise to monetary incentives at the end of every month. This is a gear that must be in constant motion to make the employees happy and efficient. The final principle is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring performance and making the necessary changes (Bateman, 2007). Keeping an eye on things is the way to be absolutely certain that everything is going according to plan. Problems will arise but this is why the plan executed in the beginning will help to create solutions. Bank of America, being so large, is monitored all the time. We must adhere to state and federal laws and regulations. Meetings are done frequently to address issues that are happening around the United States which may directly or indirectly affect performance. The manager of each team monitors the individuals with all the high tech screens on their computers. Controlling what can be controlled and having a contingency plan for when problems occur keep the bank at its high peak in the financial realm. • 4. Babe Ruth Research Paper Going, going, GONE is the deadball era. George Herman Ruth Jr, known to everyone else as babe ruth, was a complete game changer of baseball. Ruth was one,if not the best, baseball player of all time due to his new impressive power. Back in the 1910s power hitting was cast away, a result from that is a limited home run number. Ruth innovated his swing to be more of a power hitter not a contact hitter. Ruth started going yard at batting practice...as a pitcher. With that, Babe Ruth should be regarded as the most innovative to the game ever. To start off, Babe ,started young at the age of 19 and, was a southpaw for the Boston Red Sox. Home run records he made were even broken in time: Aaron played two out of three games, tying Babe Ruth s record in his very first at bat off Reds pitcher Jack Billingham, but did not hit another home run in the series (Can t find author). Records are meant to be broken. Without Ruth these records might have never been accomplished. It s hard to wrap the mind around the fact that some records aren t meant to be broken. It s not impossible but it s gonna take one heck of a player: Record: Babe Ruth, .847 in 1920 Closest since 2000: Todd Helton .698 in 2000 In 1920, Babe Ruth managed to hit for a .847 SLG while leading the league in almost every offensive category. No one has even broken .700 since 2000. Better pitching, increased pitching changes and the fact that there will never be another Babe, as well as better fielding, all contribute to making this record unbreakable (77 MLB Records That Will Never Be Broken, By Jacob Small). Who knows Babe Ruths records may be dethroned one day. Until then his records are almost 100 years old. Babe is by far one of the greatest impacts on baseball since the inventer. If you need to use the napkin to wipe your mouth, you just lift the top half of the fold and gently wipe any spills. The napkin never gets back onto the table right through the meal. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United States spent more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive prices. Strengths Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). Without them, humans and many other organisms would simply be unable to live. Our dependence on enzymes comes from their nature as biological catalysts, substances that speed up chemical reactions without being used up or changed (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). They allow chemical reactions in our body to occur at a rate that is acceptable for our cells metabolism (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). Enzymes are able to do this by binding to their substrate or substrates, the molecules they react with, and either breaking it down or combining them to form a new molecule (Wilbraham et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amylase is the name of a group of enzymes that break starch down into smaller molecules like maltose or glucose (Encyclopedia Britannica, 1998). ⍺ amylase is the amylase that is found in many mammals, including humans, in whom it can be found in saliva or the small intestine (Encyclopedia Britannica, 1998). As this is such an important topic for the world, many studies have been done to investigate the effects of pH on amylase. Two such experiments, one by Supannapong et al., and one by Tizon, Serrano and Traifalgar, both found that amylase activity peaked somewhere between a pH of 6 and 7, which fits in with most of the information available on this enzyme (2007; 2012). The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effect that different pH levels had on the rate of activity of the enzyme ⍺ amylase. It was hypothesised that pH levels below and above 7 would result in a consistent decrease in the ability of the amylase to break starch down into glucose, and therefore the rate of activity of amylase and the amount of glucose in the solution, until the amylase became denatured to the point at which it no longer could react with the starch, at which point the reaction would stop, and further changes in pH level would have no effect. This is because ⍺ amylase s natural environment, in saliva or near the pancreas, has a pH level of approximately 7 (Worthington biochem.com, 2017). As such, any notable shift from a pH level of 7 will result in increasing levels of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He asked if any man was wiser than I, and the Pythian replied that no one was wiser (Plato). This response was very confusing to Socrates because he recognized that he was not wise at all, and it troubled him for some time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates starts this method of elenchus by questioning a supposedly wise person about the definition of certain virtues. For example, in Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates asks Euthyphro what piety is. After this, the person gives their definition of that virtue. In Plato s Euthyphro, Euthyphro s answer is I say that the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the wrongdoer, be it about murder or temple robbery or anything else, whether the wrongdoer is your father or your mother or anyone else; not to prosecute is impious (Plato). After this, Socrates proves the persons definition wrong through the use of examples, and then another definition is given, and the process repeats itself. Therefore the Socratic Method has three steps: the definition is given, Socrates refutes the definition with examples, and then another definition is given. This process then repeats itself until the person who thought they knew something realizes they knew nothing at all. Socrates operates under the assumption that philosophical inquiry into virtue must take nothing for granted. Therefore he leaves no rock unturned when looking into virtue, and completely debunks circular definitions when they are given to him. The word optometrist alone is difficult to say, but for many the fear may lie in the uncertainty of how the doctor can look beyond the general outside of the eye and tell exactly what is making vision difficult or the cause of pain. I began understanding this at an early age. My interest in the anatomy of the eye began when I was a small child. I was 8 years old when my father experienced retinal detachment in the first eye. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water as the resource for generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided by gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is converted into mechanical energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy which is then transferred to power lines in that form. South Africa, like many other developing countries have electricity challenges and one company in South Africa have been the leader in terms of ensuring that South Africa is powered by hydro electric energy, among other alternative such of power. • 42. The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights Megan King English 4 Mr. Kula November 18th, 2014 CLAIM: The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights. The administration of President Vladimir Putin has chosen to abridge civil liberties in Russia and demolish the growing power of nongovernmental democratic institutions. The government has embarked on a strategy crush any opposing viewpoints and reinforce its own dominance. In July 2012, Vladimir Putin went into action to suppress the basic human rights of Russians. The three fundamental freedoms of assembly, association and speech were treated to fierce legal restriction. The Government chose to ignore parliamentary procedures and numerous protests; many experts believe, that the new laws governing demonstrations, NGOs [non governmental organisations], the libel and the legal regulation of the Internet are proof that these three rights have not only been restricted, but effectively terminated. In the case of the homophobic laws, the government s motives are clear: to mobilise the support of the most conservative section of Russian society. There is one kind of homelessness that have dedicated their lives to heroin; these people call themselves righteous dopefiends . Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg became part of the daily lives of these homeless heroin injectors for a 10 year period in Edgewater Boulevard. Through various interviews with the addicts, we came to find out their shocking personal histories that led to their addiction and homelessness. These Edgewater homeless came from different ethnic backgrounds, however, they shared two common things; all of them were homeless and were addicted to heroin. They lived in dead end alleyways, storage lots, vacant factories, defective cars, and highway embankments (4). The reason they labelled themselves as righteous dopefiends was because believed they were worthy in society, despite their actions. Going through ceaseless pain and anxiety of hunger, exposure, infectious diseases was reasonable to them because of their commitment to heroin (5). Throughout my paper, it will show that medication has an important implication in the lives of the homeless heroin injectors. Moral expectations in the Edgewater drug community is based on sharing, fairness, and justice (6). This type of economy is perfect for small communal societies, where their motto is to get mutual aid in order to avoid the free rider problem. Members of the community pool their money together to purchase heroin, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
