Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a...
Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar is
linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar Lawrence is
presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he is a priest. Friar
Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo addresses the Friar
as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence for help and
consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to
him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close as they seem to know a lot about each
other and becomes more apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By suggesting that
Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe that the Friars
intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself from the situation as
he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a very unforgiving side to him.
Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new idealistic plan. As a priest, he should
not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet
family. He already knew full well that the wedding was not going to go ahead, however by saying this
to the family, he is pretending that he knows nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how
deceptive the Friar can be as he remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his
superiority and confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she
asks Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence
would have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened.
He asks Juliet to come, I ll dispose of thee, among a sisterhood of holy Nuns. Friar Lawrence is afraid
of his actions and of being exposed as a failure and liar. Proposing this to Juliet would have been the

Thimble Jellyfish Research Paper
The thimble jellyfish, or Linuche unguiculata is well known for the rashes it causes swimmers while
in it s larval stage. Most of the current research being conducted that I found was about this topic.
When released in large numbers the jellyfish often get caught in swimwear and let out their stinging
cells, causing a great deal of discomfort and pain to those affected. The thimble jellyfish is aptly
named, since it s shaped much like a thimble. They are very small, approximately 13 20 mm in length
and radially symmetrical while in their medusa stage. However, the polyp can be 7.5 times larger,
reaching up to 150 mm tall. They are equipped with eight short tentacles and eight sensory organs.
The thimble jellyfish can reproduce sexually in their medusa form, but they can also reproduce
asexually as polyps to form colonies. Males and females gather in the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea
in large groups, during the spring, to mate. The fertilization happens inside the female, then the larvae
form in the water, or attach to one of the medusa s tentacles. They then settle on hard surfaces to form
polyps. From this point they can either reproduce asexually to create new polyps, or they can break off
into free swimming medusa. This breeding and creating of new jellyfish usually take place from
spring to late summer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It starts with fertilization beginning in the female, it then moves outside of the female into the open
water. After it s in the water it swims to a hard surface where it forms as a polyp. Then, the polyp
undergoes strobilation to form buds that eventually break off into small jellyfish, or it asexually
reproduces to form more polyps. After that it takes a few weeks for the small jellyfish to form into
adult medusae. This completes the life cycle. However, since the polyp can form a colony of polyps
instead of forming jellyfish, it s hard to determine exactly how long the life cycle

Difference In Jury Verdicts
A one way ANOVA analysis of variance displays an expressive contrast in mean verdict between types
of evidence, F (2, 94) = 8.68, p = .00, n = .16 (see Figure 1). No difference was disclosed in the Tukey
post hoc test including jury verdict with circumstantial evidence (M = 5.06, SD = 1.08) comparing to
the jury verdict with circumstantial evidence, an eyewitness and a discredited eyewitness (M = 4.50,
SD = 1.41), p = .17. Nonetheless, jury verdict with circumstantial evidence had a mean verdict that
was less guilty from the jury verdict with circumstantial evidence and an eyewitness (M = 5.83, SD =
1.29) p = .04. Jury verdict with circumstantial evidence and an eyewitness had a mean verdict that was

The testimonies were functional by three separate experiments/scenarios. Each participant received a
sheet of paper, which one of the three scenarios was written. Each participant was asked to render a
verdict based on the scenario he/she said. Our dependent variable was whether the defendant was
guilty or not. This was operationalized by the jurors getting put into eyewitness results.
The main limitation of this experimental study was that this study was not real, as well as no real life
consequences. There was no actual human life being presented in front of a jury or were there any
emotions being presented. The emotions would be high in the court room and the jury would actually
be having the ability to be sending the defendant to jail as well as seeing the defendant have real live
emotions. Being in a courtroom would also mean the jury would be listening to what the defendant
has to say. This was a fake study and just an experimental study to see how people would react to

Free Will
Everything that happens has a cause and every cause has an effect. Effect strictly follows cause every
time.
This is an necessary logical tool for humans in understanding the world around them. Because humans
understand the concept of time it means that they can then understand that some things always happen
after other things. Spotting these patterns allows them to then deliberately cause certain effects by
mimicking or instigating the cause they had previously observed.
If effect did not follow cause reliably each and every time then it would become very difficult to
survive as we learn from repeated exposure to cause and effect what is likely to happen if we do X. ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surely the simplest explanation is that cause and effect simply do exist.
Is everything we will ever think or do pre determined? Were all of the great works of creation in art
music and architecture pre determined at the point of creation? Again this argument seems both
unsatisfactory and false.
So how do we resolve this contradiction? One answer lies in the way in which we perceive the world.
There are essentially two worlds in nature. The world that we see: the macro world, the world of
Newtonian physics, and the world of the very, very small: the world of quantum physics.
Quantum physics essentially shows us that far from being totally predictable, the paths of particles are
unknowable, because the act of observing a particle will alter it or its path in some way. Thus, rather
than dealing with absolute positions, directions and speeds quantum physics uses statistics to predict
the position of particles. This means that for a given particle we only have a probability of where it
will be.
Now the behaviour of large numbers of particles is much easier because lots of these elusive particles
acting together and in relation to each other (as in matter) become more predictable. Why? Imagine a
box with a divider such that we can close the box into two identical halves at any time. Suppose the
box is totally empty a perfect vacuum. We then introduce

The Kiss Picasso
The artwork I chose for this discussion is Pablo Picasso s oil painting, The Kiss. Pablo Picasso was
born in Malaga, Spain in 1881 and passed away on April 8, 1973, in Mougins, France. Pablo s love for
drawing started at a young age. His passion was so strong he lost all desire to complete schoolwork.
At the age of young age of fourteen, Picasso was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona
and by sixteen owned his owned studio. Pablo went through certain periods where he incorporated a
specific color that dominated in each of his paintings. From 1901 1904, Picasso went through his Blue
Period while the years of 1905 1907 were called his Rose Period. The Kiss was produced in 1969
during Picasso s later works and the time where his obsession with couples became evident. This
special oil on canvas painting of a couple can be viewed on display in Paris at the Picasso Museum.

Both artists used oil on canvas and clearly depict their artwork with a use of detailed lines to grasp the
viewers attention. The audience can easily notice the focal point in each artwork. In El Sol Asombra
the house is painted bigger than everything else and the bright yellow grasps the spectator s attention.
Picasso used the same skill by making the male and female the center of attention. Picasso s social
angle lies in in the theme of gender and sexuality. The Kiss reveals a strong sexual tension between an
elderly man and a younger woman. This late painting... is an animal kiss, where sex and death are
inexorably entwined through fear and hunger. These kisses, and the use of tongues, are unique in the
history of representation. (miamirali.org) Picasso painting a fierce moment shared between two people

Harm Reduction Essay
According to the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCDC, 2013), harm reduction aims to
keep people safe and minimize death, disease, and injury from high risk behaviour. Harm reduction
involves a variety of support services and strategies to improve the knowledge, skills and resources for
individuals and their families to create a healthier and safer community (BCDC, 2013). This paper
will discuss the applicability of community health standards to harm reduction practice, as well as the
determinants of health which increase the incidence of harm to the targeted audience. COUNTERfit, a
women s harm reduction program will be discussed in terms of significance to the aggregate
population and evaluated through an examination of epidemiological data, prevalence data, and best
practice. According to the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA, 2015), harm reduction is a public
response, in which nurses have a vital role in by highlighting safety promotion to prevent death, injury
and disability, as well as treating clients respectfully and in a non judgmental manner, despite drug use
or engagement in other high risk practices. Nurses who are involved in a harm reduction strategy
provide essential health services to a highly demoted population, using a comprehensive nursing
framework that focuses on client centered relationship building and primary nursing care activities
that are facilitated by a harm reduction theory with the core principles of health promotion (Lightfoot,

Victor Frankenstein As A Hero
Although some critics view Victor Frankenstein as a Tragic Hero because of his one essential flaw, his
overambitious desire to discover what cannot be known, he is truly a Byronic Hero by definition.
Although Victor is of a higher social class than the average person and his essential flaw triumphs all
of his others, he has a deeply troubled past, struggles with integrity, secludes himself away from
society, and is a willful individual who seeks redemption by carving out his own path. Victor s many,
deep flaws, which often induce the reader to believe that he is actually the antagonist and the Monster
the hero, and ultimate redemption in telling Robert Walton his life s story make him a Byronic Hero.
Although Victor s family was one of the most distinguished of the republic of Geneva and his parents
were possessed by the very spirit of kindness / And indulgence, (Shelley 39) his days were not filled
with happiness. His troubled past started the day Elizabeth caught scarlet fever, delaying his departure
for Ingolstadt. Although Victor s mother, Caroline, was able to cure her, she died in her place. The
destruction of a dear bond by an irreparable evil surely would have caused anyone to suffer, but as
time came, Caroline s death became rather an / Indulgence than a necessity (Shelley 45) to Victor; it
was nothing more than something that delayed his departure for Ingolstadt. Because Victor is in a
situation where he no longer has control, his psyche must carry the burden

A Comparison Of David Hockney And Christopher Isherwood
There are people today, who never realize just how much of a blessing Los Angeles is. This, City of
Angels , is like paradise with its warm sunlight on individuals who each have their own story. People
in this city usually do not have anything to hide, due to affecting and inspiring one another, such as
homosexuals. Other cities in the past, such as London, despised the thought of two people, of the same
sex, engaging in an intimate relationship. Los Angeles however, could not have appeared any more of
a haven to two gay British men, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood, due to its standard of
living, how the people there had a particular set of beliefs and attitudes, and the gay scene being
different than that of London.
Before Los Angeles, before their successful careers, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood were
both just two boys from England. Christopher Isherwood, who was born in the year 1904 roughly
thirty years before David Hockney was born was a privileged young boy as he was related to a
country squire. Even though he was privileged, Christopher s family was incomplete due to his distant
parents. With his parents being distant, and having to be sent to boarding school at age 8, it created a
sense of loneliness for Christopher. Luckily, Christopher formed friendships over the years to fill the
void; a couple of his friends being Wynstan Auden and Edward Upward. In 1925, Christopher was
expelled from Cambridge University due to not taking his

Frederick Jackson Turner Frontier Thesis Summary
The American Frontier consisted of a vibrant and expansive land made for the opportunity
ofAmerican settlement until the late 19th century. Unfortunately, the age of exploration of the Frontier
officially ended in 1890 with the U.S Census Bureau declaring that here can hardly be said to be a
frontier line. A historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, claimed that the Frontier shaped American culture
and the attitude of Americans. By evaluating U.S Census Bureau statistics, he famously wrote the
Frontier Thesis. Along with the Frontier Thesis, Turner contributed to the field of New History,
primarily analyzing the West and Sectionalism of the United States. Today, historians acknowledge the

Essay on Native American Sound Instruments

Through my own personal experiences and teachings from Native Americans, that have offered to

One reason a drum is thought of having medicine is when the drum is made from cedar. The Cedar
tree has been known as a powerful healing tree and thus this medicine is passed on to the drum as a
sort of healing energy. The other reason that a drum is thought to have medicine is because of what
type of skin is used. Elk, deer, buffalo, horse, and moose, just to name a few, all have some kind of
significance when it comes to being used on a drum.
To the First Nations, deer is considered to have a connection to the circulatory system. To be more
precise, the Heart, the heart can be left unattended for long periods of time. This lack of attention can
lead to high poverty in the sense that there is never enough time, never enough money, or never
enough love. Native Americans believe that Deer opens the heart to allow them the teachings of trust
and to allow them to empower the power of love and wisdom. They feel that drumming with Deer has
the medicine to

remind them that they live in a universe filled with more than enough of every thing that is needed.
Drumming with Deer helps when the feeling of being unloved engulfs someone, it in turn reminds
them of the laws of circulation. In other words, when one is feeling unloved then its time to love
others and all things, and soon that love will be returned tenfold.
Drumming with Buffalo is used when one seeks to gain wisdom and guidance from their Ancestors by

Population Control in China Essay
Population Control in China
Vigilantes abduct pregnant women on the streets and haul them off, sometimes handcuffed or trussed,
to abortion clinics. [Some] aborted babies cry when they are born (Steven Mosher). This quotation
shows one method how China tries to carry through its population control in a manner which is very
cruel and against human rights. We, Western people, do not understand why China needs a population
control and why this control has to be carried out so harshly.
But why had China to control its population? From 1949 on, Mao Zedong feared war with the United
States or the Soviet Union. China s millions [of people] were the country s primary weapon against
technologically superior enemies. The Chinese population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The desire for sons and the infanticides of girls lead to another problem. Today the imbalance between
men and women is already very high, and will even get higher in the future. For example, in the
Guangxi province 19 out of 24 births were boys (2001). Because of this imbalance men will have a
hard time finding a Chinese woman in the next couple of years.
But how does China try to carry out its one child policy? The techniques to enforce the one child
family are sometimes very cruel and violate human rights. First of all, families need an authorization
to have a baby. That means that when they decide to have a baby, they first have to get an official
authorization to have a child. To learn about unauthorized pregnancies, Chinese officials pay
informants to report them pregnancies of women. These informants can be neighbors, friends, or even
family. This method is comparable to what the East German Stasi did in former times. Chinese people
cannot trust anybody, because they can be reported to the officials. Women are also only allowed to
have children when they are married. Because of this law, China passed another law that says that
women are only allowed to marry with the age of 23. That means that women officially are allowed to
have a child with 23 years. That led to an increase of the average age of first birth from 20.8 years
(1970s) to 23.6 years (1998). Another method to enforce the one child policy is sterilizations. All

Anything can be physical evidence so it is crucial that nothing be touched or tampered with until

In Shakespeare’s Othello, race is a concept that is only...
In Shakespeare s Othello, race is a concept that is only minimally explored. Characters in the play
assume that, since they are English, they are superior and foreign characters (like Othello the Moor)
are inferior. This is not questioned much at all, and in fact it is assumed outright that Othello is indeed
a lesser man because of his skin color and the ways in which characters like Iago and Roderigo treat
him. While an early modern audience would accept this concept without hesitation, an audience of
today s age is left to question whether Othello is actually acting out because of the societal pressures,
beliefs, and actions put upon him, or because he is inherently different as a person who is not white.
While Shakespeare seems to think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these insults are packed into only the first scene of the play there are dozens more sprinkled
throughout, used commonly by Iago and Roderigo, most often behind Othello s back than to his face.
This ever constant presence of racism when regarding Othello is proof of Iago s plot: to degrade and
insult and trick Othello into believing that he is subpar, and therefore trusting in Iago s accusations of
Desdemona s infidelity. But why does Iago despise Othello so much? The answer is in the text, both
explicitly and implicitly. When Roderigo mentions Othello in the opening scene, Iago states that he is
angered by the appointment of Othello as general, and the appointment of Cassio as his officer. He
states that by the faith of man...I am worth no worse of a price suggesting that he believes he should
have been honored with a similar military position (1.1.10 11). He goes on then to suggest that Cassio
is not a fit officer, as he is a great arithmetician...a Florentine...that never set a squadron in the field in
short, Cassio is too theoretical and inexperienced to be of any use as an officer (1.1.18 21). In addition
to his jealousy of Othello s power, Iago must also be jealous of Othello s wife Desdemona. While
waking up her father Brabanzio to warn him of his daughter s so called treachery in marrying and

The Narrator In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
The narrator plays a key role in the development of the plot and meaning of a story. A Rose for Emily,
by William Faulkner, tells the story of Miss Emily Grierson and her mysterious, isolated life. The
narrator of the story, who never reveals their identity, presents the story in a unique way; using a slight
combination of first and third person points of view. Although hard to identify, the narrator at some
points does and does not include themselves in the information they are sharing with the readers. To
start, the author narrates using this style to keep the readers wondering and interested. In addition,
Faulkner wishes to portray Emily as a sympathetic character. Also, the narrator communicates the
story in a manner similar to the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life, towards
the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a
certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the readers feel sympathy
towards Emily is when her father s death comes up. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her
following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not
want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, We did not say she was crazy then. We
believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection
for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to
provide outside observations to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example,
Emily s point of view, the readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help
understand her situation. The narrator provides foreshadowing, We did not say she was crazy then
(Faulkner 153). The word then indicates that the citizens did not see her as crazy before; but once they
discover more information they realize that something is definitely not right. In conclusion, the
narrator tells the story out of order to make the readers sympathetic towards Miss Emily so they have

The engineer whom which created this camera made it possible to capture a picture and be able to
look at the image on your camera within 20 seconds. (Gersman) Over the course of time, many
cameras were invented by many different companies, all cameras were built unique, they were
constructed with different features, but the one thing all cameras had in common is the ability to
capture a memory, to freeze your memories in time. Today the total number of photos/ memories
being captured every two minutes, is more than all the pictures taken in the 1800s combined. With
today s cameras it is so easy to freeze your memories and have them forever to remember. As of 2016,
there has been 25 million cameras documented in the world, that does not include cameras on cell
phones, computers, electronics in general. There are almost as many cell phone subscriptions (6.8

Pacifism And Anabaptism In The 16th Century Europe
Introduction Life in 16th century Europe was short, difficult and tumultuous. One hundred years after
Luther started the Protestant Reformation by nailing his 95 thesis to the door of the Wittenberg church,
religious and state relationships were ever shifting and evolving. Traditions and beliefs were being
threatened by new discoveries and schools of thought while those with contradicting beliefs were
singled out for persecution. Food and shelter were not guaranteed, especially for the poor, and disease
and war were an ever looming dark cloud of death and destruction. The members of the newly
developing religious group called Anabaptism were often the main target of persecution and were
faced with the options of migrating, recanting and most harshly, execution. They had many reasons
and opportunities to resist and revolt using violent measures, as was customary at the time, but instead
they held fast in their pacifistic beliefs, rejecting any and all violence. The 16th century Anabaptists
demonstrated their dedication to pacifism even when challenged with scripture that opposed their
beliefs, persecution and war.
Definition of Pacifism Anabaptists were often described as pacifists due to their rejection of the sword
and opposition to violence. However, it is important to note that pacifism is a moderately new term,
coined in the 20th century and that their beliefs are perhaps better explained using the terms absolute
pacifism and nonresistance, or Gewaltlosigkeit in German. Pacifism is [t]he belief that war and
violence are unjustifiable and that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means. It can be seen as
an active stance against violence, specifically war, to settle disputes, whereas non resistance implies a
passive stance, avoiding involvement in any form of violence or event that could lead to violence.
Pacifism can be religious or non religious, political or not, and is anchored largely in a basic belief in
the goodness and perfectibility of man and the reformability of the general human society on rational
grounds. On the other hand, nonresistance is seen as an outward manifestation of the peace of God
within the soul, and is the peace of God applied to our relation with our fellow man.

The French Revolution Occurred During The Time Periods
The French Revolution occurred during the time periods 1787 to 1799 which shook France. Its climax
reached in 1789 when the ancien regime ended in France. The French Revolution was the most violent
and by far the most universally significant revolution compared to the rest. The initial cause of the
revolution was the social structure of the West. One social structure that was based on the holding of
all land by fees that resulted in the relation of the king to vassal was called the feudal system that
weakened step by step and had already disappeared in certain regions of Europe prior to the
revolution. The feudal system was characterized by homage, legal and military service of tenants, and
punishment. Wealthy commoners, also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rousseau was an anti philosophe, he took Montesquieu s theory a step further in which civilization
corrupts rather than nature and that big states are also corrupt, small states are best. During the time, as
France faced heavy expenditure that the wars had brought, the rulers had raised money by taxing the
nobles and clergy and the rulers were backed upon the enlightened despots. There are many causes
that could have contributed to the French Revolution like the peasants were aware of their situation
and were less willing to support the feudal system. The philosophes were well read throughout the
region and questioned many. The government was at the edge of bankruptcy due to their involvement
in the American Revolution because there was a refusal to pay taxes given by the Great Britain King
which ended with the rulers and privileged class become allies with the peasants and non privileged
class. There was many economic factors that started the French revolution also like: crop failures in
1788 and the population increasing. The French Monarchy was vanishing because it was unable to
adapt to the pressures brought onto it which also contributed to the start of the French Revolution. The
Great War lasted 1914 1918 that involved 28 nations around the world. It started with the
assassination of Franz Ferdinand and then Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. Due to an alliance,
called Triple Alliance, Germany and Italy joined Austria Hungary while

Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, and Playstation Two...
Which system is better, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, or Sony PlayStation 2? Which system
is the better buy? These are just some of the questions people ask themselves when it comes to
purchasing one of these systems. In my opinion, I believe that the best buy is the PlayStation 2.
The PS2 offers a reasonably powerful processor, about 297MHz (Megahertz). It may seem a little bit
on the sluggish side compared to the processor of Xbox, about 733MHz, and to the GameCube
processor, about 485MHz. If you ask me, I think that 733MHz is a little much for a gaming console, it
s just plain ridiculous. The PS2 has enough power to run high quality games. And with the planned

Sony has a 10 or 15GB hard drive planned to come out during June of 2002.
Both PlayStation 2 and Xbox have the capability to play DVD s, but with Xbox, there s a catch. You
need to purchase a $30 DVD Playback Kit. With PS2, you can watch DVD s right after you hook it
up, without any extra purchases. GameCube cannot play DVD s, and probably never will, although
Nintendo is developing a DVD playing GameCube, it will probably be well over what it is priced now.
The PS2 can play DVD s, audio CD s, PlayStation 2 discs, and PlayStation discs. The Xbox supports
audio CD s, DVD s (with kit), and Xbox discs. The GameCube only supports the 1.5GB GameCube
disc.
The controller for the PlayStation 2 has been the same since Sony came out with the Dual Shock
controller for PlayStation, so the controllers from Sony are universal with both the PlayStation and the
PlayStation 2. The PS2 controller is just the right size for any age. The Xbox controller is huge
compared to the GameCube and PS2 controllers. The hands of a 6 year old could not be able to press
all of the buttons. The GameCube controller is about the same size as a PS2 controller except it has
less buttons.
The PS2 has games made for people in any age group. I believe that the GameCube is mainly directed
toward the younger kids because most all of the games made so far are either rated

Freire constructed an educational viewpoint, which focused on aiding the illiterate.

American Research And Development Of An Atomic Bomb
It was August, 1939. United States President Franklin Roosevelt read a letter sent to him from
prominent scientists Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard. The purpose of this letter was to inform the
President that the Germans supposedly discovered the secrets to developing nuclear weaponry and to
urge the President to do the same. This letter changed the course of human history, setting the stage for
the development of weapons that would alter warfare forever (Primary Sources: Letter from Einstein
to FDR). The Manhattan Project was the code name given to the American research and development
of an atomic bomb. The high stakes chess game of World War II was in full swing, and every move
each side played created a chain reaction throughout the world, as did the news of the German s
advancements. Even though the United States would not officially enter the war until 1941 (Historical
Film Footage: US Enters World War II), the world believed the United States to be the only hope of a
German defeat. With the alarming news of the German s recent discoveries, the Americans needed to
quickly assert its dominance in the race to develop new wartime technology. Roosevelt authorized the
research of nuclear weapons in January of 1942 (Atomic Timeline). Immediately, government officials
placed plans for classified studies into motion at institutions across the country. As explained by the

A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change
A revolution is a dramatic and wide reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in
people s ideas about it. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah
Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific
revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life would advance
with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will
lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the
start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know.
In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities in
the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation,
curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural, cognitive, and
scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well. Along with
this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Bostrom proves this
when he states, Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence over the course of history
and prehistory. The gains come from many sources, including innovations in communications
technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of language itself... (Kindle

people coming from all walks of life. As a counselor, it is important to be able to be competent in a

Primary Differences In Ancient Egyptian Religion
The ancient Egyptian civilization began in ca. 2700 until 1075 BC. The Egyptians depended on the
Nile River for their economy, rural, and religion. During the middle and new kingdoms in Egypt, the
Israelites were slaves, but God delivered them out of Egypt. There are the primary differences are the
worship, purpose of man, and life after death. The first primary difference between Egyptian religion
and Biblical Truth is worship. The Egyptians worshiped and believed in many gods. The worship of
many gods is called polytheism. These gods were invented my man and they were untrue. Some of
these gods were Horus, Isis, Ra, Osiris, Amun, Anubis, and many more. In the Bible, it states that
there is only One True God, God of the Bible. We should worship our One True God only. In 1

Human Drug For Treating Bacterial Infections
β lactam antibiotics have continued to be the most popular drug for treating bacterial infections since
its discovery in 1928 by Fleming and its introduction as an antibacterial agent in the early 1950.1
Most commonly used β lactam drugs today stems from the original discovery and development of
natural products from microorganisms like penicillin, cephalosporin and other β lactam based
antibiotics (Figure 1). 1,2 However, soon after its commercialization and widespread usage, β
lactamase secreting penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated.3 The
introduction of methicillin (a β lactamase insensitive semi synthetic penicillin), to curb the resistance
problem resulted in the evolution of another resistant strain known as methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).4 Figure 1: Some β lactam antibiotics
Resistance to β lactams is easy for bacteria as all β lactams shared the same mode of action, which is
the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable covalent adducts with the active site
serine residues of penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). The PBPS are often divided into two partitions;
the high molecular weight PBPs (HMW PBPs) and the low molecular weight PBPs (LMW PBPs). The
HMW PBPs are further divided in two classes, A and B, while the LMW PBPs are divided in four
subclasses based on their tertiary structures. Figure 2 shows the reactions between natural substrates, β
lactams and transition state analogs with the

Who Was The Vatican Dbq Essay
On a sunny day in The Vatican, one of the most beloved popes died. Twelve cardinals were to vote for
the next pope, however four of them went missing out of nowhere one morning, so some officials
went to the most qualified people they could ever go to.
Traveling over 5,000 miles they came to a little quiet school in Peachtree Corners with not much
happening until the phone rang in Doc s room asking for Mr.West, Mr.Nail, and Ms.Sanders
immediately. They went to the front where three officials were standing and rushed them out to PDK

of other professors and more qualified teachers. One of the officials said that kids are more clever and
like puzzles. So on they went, knowing that this mission could be fatal but they were up to the
challenge.
Once they arrived, they got to work to find out who these Cardinals were. However, the Vatican
granted access to only a few documents in the Secret Archives and only a few had the names of the
Cardinals. But with a Vatican official, they could gain more access to more documents including
secrets that The Vatican would allow outsiders to see. Since they knew it would be only a matter of

  • 2. Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a... Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar is linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar Lawrence is presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he is a priest. Friar Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo addresses the Friar as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence for help and consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close as they seem to know a lot about each other and becomes more apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By suggesting that Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe that the Friars intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself from the situation as he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a very unforgiving side to him. Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new idealistic plan. As a priest, he should not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet family. He already knew full well that the wedding was not going to go ahead, however by saying this to the family, he is pretending that he knows nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how deceptive the Friar can be as he remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his superiority and confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she asks Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence would have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened. He asks Juliet to come, I ll dispose of thee, among a sisterhood of holy Nuns. Friar Lawrence is afraid of his actions and of being exposed as a failure and liar. Proposing this to Juliet would have been the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thimble Jellyfish Research Paper The thimble jellyfish, or Linuche unguiculata is well known for the rashes it causes swimmers while in it s larval stage. Most of the current research being conducted that I found was about this topic. When released in large numbers the jellyfish often get caught in swimwear and let out their stinging cells, causing a great deal of discomfort and pain to those affected. The thimble jellyfish is aptly named, since it s shaped much like a thimble. They are very small, approximately 13 20 mm in length and radially symmetrical while in their medusa stage. However, the polyp can be 7.5 times larger, reaching up to 150 mm tall. They are equipped with eight short tentacles and eight sensory organs. The thimble jellyfish can reproduce sexually in their medusa form, but they can also reproduce asexually as polyps to form colonies. Males and females gather in the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea in large groups, during the spring, to mate. The fertilization happens inside the female, then the larvae form in the water, or attach to one of the medusa s tentacles. They then settle on hard surfaces to form polyps. From this point they can either reproduce asexually to create new polyps, or they can break off into free swimming medusa. This breeding and creating of new jellyfish usually take place from spring to late summer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It starts with fertilization beginning in the female, it then moves outside of the female into the open water. After it s in the water it swims to a hard surface where it forms as a polyp. Then, the polyp undergoes strobilation to form buds that eventually break off into small jellyfish, or it asexually reproduces to form more polyps. After that it takes a few weeks for the small jellyfish to form into adult medusae. This completes the life cycle. However, since the polyp can form a colony of polyps instead of forming jellyfish, it s hard to determine exactly how long the life cycle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Difference In Jury Verdicts A one way ANOVA analysis of variance displays an expressive contrast in mean verdict between types of evidence, F (2, 94) = 8.68, p = .00, n = .16 (see Figure 1). No difference was disclosed in the Tukey post hoc test including jury verdict with circumstantial evidence (M = 5.06, SD = 1.08) comparing to the jury verdict with circumstantial evidence, an eyewitness and a discredited eyewitness (M = 4.50, SD = 1.41), p = .17. Nonetheless, jury verdict with circumstantial evidence had a mean verdict that was less guilty from the jury verdict with circumstantial evidence and an eyewitness (M = 5.83, SD = 1.29) p = .04. Jury verdict with circumstantial evidence and an eyewitness had a mean verdict that was more guilty from the jury verdict with circumstantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The testimonies were functional by three separate experiments/scenarios. Each participant received a sheet of paper, which one of the three scenarios was written. Each participant was asked to render a verdict based on the scenario he/she said. Our dependent variable was whether the defendant was guilty or not. This was operationalized by the jurors getting put into eyewitness results. The main limitation of this experimental study was that this study was not real, as well as no real life consequences. There was no actual human life being presented in front of a jury or were there any emotions being presented. The emotions would be high in the court room and the jury would actually be having the ability to be sending the defendant to jail as well as seeing the defendant have real live emotions. Being in a courtroom would also mean the jury would be listening to what the defendant has to say. This was a fake study and just an experimental study to see how people would react to being in ... • 5. Free Will Essay examples Free Will Everything that happens has a cause and every cause has an effect. Effect strictly follows cause every time. This is an necessary logical tool for humans in understanding the world around them. Because humans understand the concept of time it means that they can then understand that some things always happen after other things. Spotting these patterns allows them to then deliberately cause certain effects by mimicking or instigating the cause they had previously observed. If effect did not follow cause reliably each and every time then it would become very difficult to survive as we learn from repeated exposure to cause and effect what is likely to happen if we do X. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely the simplest explanation is that cause and effect simply do exist. Is everything we will ever think or do pre determined? Were all of the great works of creation in art music and architecture pre determined at the point of creation? Again this argument seems both unsatisfactory and false. So how do we resolve this contradiction? One answer lies in the way in which we perceive the world. There are essentially two worlds in nature. The world that we see: the macro world, the world of Newtonian physics, and the world of the very, very small: the world of quantum physics. Quantum physics essentially shows us that far from being totally predictable, the paths of particles are unknowable, because the act of observing a particle will alter it or its path in some way. Thus, rather than dealing with absolute positions, directions and speeds quantum physics uses statistics to predict the position of particles. This means that for a given particle we only have a probability of where it will be. Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain in 1881 and passed away on April 8, 1973, in Mougins, France. Pablo s love for drawing started at a young age. His passion was so strong he lost all desire to complete schoolwork. At the age of young age of fourteen, Picasso was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona and by sixteen owned his owned studio. Pablo went through certain periods where he incorporated a specific color that dominated in each of his paintings. From 1901 1904, Picasso went through his Blue Period while the years of 1905 1907 were called his Rose Period. The Kiss was produced in 1969 during Picasso s later works and the time where his obsession with couples became evident. Victor Frankenstein As A Hero Although some critics view Victor Frankenstein as a Tragic Hero because of his one essential flaw, his overambitious desire to discover what cannot be known, he is truly a Byronic Hero by definition. Although Victor is of a higher social class than the average person and his essential flaw triumphs all of his others, he has a deeply troubled past, struggles with integrity, secludes himself away from society, and is a willful individual who seeks redemption by carving out his own path. • 9. A Comparison Of David Hockney And Christopher Isherwood There are people today, who never realize just how much of a blessing Los Angeles is. This, City of Angels , is like paradise with its warm sunlight on individuals who each have their own story. People in this city usually do not have anything to hide, due to affecting and inspiring one another, such as homosexuals. Other cities in the past, such as London, despised the thought of two people, of the same sex, engaging in an intimate relationship. Los Angeles however, could not have appeared any more of a haven to two gay British men, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood, due to its standard of living, how the people there had a particular set of beliefs and attitudes, and the gay scene being different than that of London. Before Los Angeles, before their successful careers, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood were both just two boys from England. Christopher Isherwood, who was born in the year 1904 roughly thirty years before David Hockney was born was a privileged young boy as he was related to a country squire. Even though he was privileged, Christopher s family was incomplete due to his distant parents. With his parents being distant, and having to be sent to boarding school at age 8, it created a sense of loneliness for Christopher. Today the imbalance between men and women is already very high, and will even get higher in the future. For example, in the Guangxi province 19 out of 24 births were boys (2001). Because of this imbalance men will have a hard time finding a Chinese woman in the next couple of years. But how does China try to carry out its one child policy? The techniques to enforce the one child family are sometimes very cruel and violate human rights. First of all, families need an authorization to have a baby. That means that when they decide to have a baby, they first have to get an official authorization to have a child. To learn about unauthorized pregnancies, Chinese officials pay informants to report them pregnancies of women. These informants can be neighbors, friends, or even family. This method is comparable to what the East German Stasi did in former times. Chinese people cannot trust anybody, because they can be reported to the officials. Women are also only allowed to have children when they are married. Because of this law, China passed another law that says that women are only allowed to marry with the age of 23. That means that women officially are allowed to have a child with 23 years. That led to an increase of the average age of first birth from 20.8 years (1970s) to 23.6 years (1998). Characters in the play assume that, since they are English, they are superior and foreign characters (like Othello the Moor) are inferior. This is not questioned much at all, and in fact it is assumed outright that Othello is indeed a lesser man because of his skin color and the ways in which characters like Iago and Roderigo treat him. While an early modern audience would accept this concept without hesitation, an audience of today s age is left to question whether Othello is actually acting out because of the societal pressures, beliefs, and actions put upon him, or because he is inherently different as a person who is not white. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a certain remains a secret. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to provide outside observations to the readers. • 20. Pacifism And Anabaptism In The 16th Century Europe Introduction Life in 16th century Europe was short, difficult and tumultuous. One hundred years after Luther started the Protestant Reformation by nailing his 95 thesis to the door of the Wittenberg church, religious and state relationships were ever shifting and evolving. Traditions and beliefs were being threatened by new discoveries and schools of thought while those with contradicting beliefs were singled out for persecution. Food and shelter were not guaranteed, especially for the poor, and disease and war were an ever looming dark cloud of death and destruction. The members of the newly developing religious group called Anabaptism were often the main target of persecution and were faced with the options of migrating, recanting and most harshly, execution. They had many reasons and opportunities to resist and revolt using violent measures, as was customary at the time, but instead they held fast in their pacifistic beliefs, rejecting any and all violence. The 16th century Anabaptists demonstrated their dedication to pacifism even when challenged with scripture that opposed their beliefs, persecution and war. Definition of Pacifism Anabaptists were often described as pacifists due to their rejection of the sword and opposition to violence. However, it is important to note that pacifism is a moderately new term, coined in the 20th century and that their beliefs are perhaps better explained using the terms absolute pacifism and nonresistance, or Gewaltlosigkeit in German. Pacifism is [t]he belief that war and violence are unjustifiable and that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means. It can be seen as an active stance against violence, specifically war, to settle disputes, whereas non resistance implies a passive stance, avoiding involvement in any form of violence or event that could lead to violence. Pacifism can be religious or non religious, political or not, and is anchored largely in a basic belief in the goodness and perfectibility of man and the reformability of the general human society on rational grounds. On the other hand, nonresistance is seen as an outward manifestation of the peace of God within the soul, and is the peace of God applied to our relation with our fellow man. ... As a result, Brazilian government sought to create thousands of locations in which Freire s theories could be applied, therefore strengthening the literacy of the nation. However, a military coup put an end to their efforts in 1964. Freire was imprisoned for 70 days after being viewed as a traitor following the coup. After his release, Freire fled to Bolivia. Following his time in Bolivia, Freire began his work in Chile, where he stayed for five years. During his time in Chile, Freire worked for the Christian Democratic Agrarian Reform movement and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. United States President Franklin Roosevelt read a letter sent to him from prominent scientists Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard. The purpose of this letter was to inform the President that the Germans supposedly discovered the secrets to developing nuclear weaponry and to urge the President to do the same. This letter changed the course of human history, setting the stage for the development of weapons that would alter warfare forever (Primary Sources: Letter from Einstein to FDR). The Manhattan Project was the code name given to the American research and development of an atomic bomb. The high stakes chess game of World War II was in full swing, and every move each side played created a chain reaction throughout the world, as did the news of the German s advancements. Even though the United States would not officially enter the war until 1941 (Historical Film Footage: US Enters World War II), the world believed the United States to be the only hope of a German defeat. With the alarming news of the German s recent discoveries, the Americans needed to quickly assert its dominance in the race to develop new wartime technology. Roosevelt authorized the research of nuclear weapons in January of 1942 (Atomic Timeline). Immediately, government officials placed plans for classified studies into motion at institutions across the country. • 27. A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change A revolution is a dramatic and wide reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people s ideas about it. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life would advance with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know. In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities in the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural, cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Bostrom proves this when he states, Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence over the course of history and prehistory. The gains come from many sources, including innovations in communications technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of language itself...
