Fall of Ranbaxy
RANBAXY S FALL FROM GRACE INTRODUCTION Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (Ranbaxy)
is a research based international pharmaceutical company serving customers in over 150 countries.
The company was incorporated in 1961 and it went public in 1973.In 1998 Ranbaxy entered the
United States which is the largest pharmaceutical market. In 2008 Daiichi Sankyo a leading
pharmaceutical innovator, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan acquired a controlling share in the
company. Ranbaxy produces a wide range of quality, affordable generic medicines across many
countries. It has ground operations in 43 countries and 16 manufacturing units spread across 8
countries. Its market presence spreads... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the US regulator warned the company about its practices, the company failed to
solve the problem. A complaint filed with the US District Court had alleged that the norms were
not met by the company even in its facilities in US. In 2008 FDA issued two warning letters to
Ranbaxy and an import Alert for generic drugs manufactured in two manufacturing plants in India.
Some batches of drugs were called back due to contamination (presence of glass particles). But
Ohm Laboratories, Ranbaxy s US subsidiary, failed to give required reports to FDA. These
violations were found when Ohm Laboratories Gloversville facility was inspected. Ranbaxy s
attempt to make corrections was inadequate. According to Nirmal Bang Senior Research Analyst
Praful Bohra, the company needs to strengthen its internal processes immediately and ensure that
the quality of medicines do not suffer at all. There should be stricter surveillance and
accountability. Another industry analyst with a consulting firm reiterates, In the business of
medicine, quality comes first and you just cannot take a risk with that. When you are in such a
crisis, even a small suspicion can play spoilsport. But Ranbaxy continued to be lax in trying to
restore its credibility and failed to bounce back. Lack of accountability on the part of the company
has left the investors doubtful. Even the employees have lost their morale with many of

Diddingstone Loch
History of the site It is believed that human activity in the park commenced about 6000 years
ago, when Mesolithic community arrived to the area. The proof of their presence was flint tools
as well as Mesolithic and Neolithic stones found by archaeologists in Holyrood Park. It is also
estimated that the terraces situated above the Dunsapie Loch come from the Bronze age. In 1778
late Bronze Age weapons were found in Diddingstone Loch. That is yet another proof that about
3000 years ago the park was inhibited by Bronze Age community. It is also estimated that the
terraces situated above the Dunsapie Loch come from the Bronze age. There has been some
evidence found for a presence of Romans, which could have inhibited the area about 2000 years...

As evidence of the submerge, some traces of marine sandstones and limestone and shale are
found in the area. As the area was underwater at the time of the eruption of the Arthur s Seta
volcano the first eruption took place underwater. The basaltic magma, initially pushed through
the sedimentary rocks (Cemenstone Group). Tuffs and lava were firstly erupted from the vent
called Lion s Head. The lava met and turned the surface water into steam, which caused an
accumulation of liquid gases. It is therefore believed that the eruption of Lion s Haunch was
enormous. The cone formed around the vent consists of layers of lava, ash and agglomerate. The
agglomerate usually falls back to the vent. As the rock was rising, it eventually expanded above
the water level. The later erption were therefore subaerial. There is some evidence found that the
rock was later inhabited by plants and even trees. Figure (....) presents fossilised plants as found in
the area. As the Lion s Head vent became blocked the lava cut through the vent and erupted through
the bigger Lion s Haunch vent. It is believed that it was bigger than the former

HI Zorana,
I am fine, how are you? I miss living in Hawaii, attending UH Hilo and discussing stuff with you,

Types Of Cosmetic Surgery And How They Are Affected By...
The Types of Cosmetic Surgery and How They Are Affected by Body Image
Studies have shown that, 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in
2012. As cosmetic economic indicators such as auto, retail, and home sales saw gains in 2012
so too did plastic surgery (www.plasticsurgery.org). This statistic has proved that across the
United States people are being affected with the opinion and views formed based off of Body
Image. Throughout the years, the ideas of body image have changed based off of people s
personal desires on what they should look like or on trend . Women, children, and even men
base their body image on what society believes is ideal. In some years, society might believe that
a small waist and a thin frame might be the perfect body image. In others, the curvier frame would
be the ideal body image. People have gone down the path of cosmetic surgery in order to meet their
needs and desires for what they believe are the perfect body . The types of plastic surgery that are
being performed correlate directly to the ideas of what body image is supposed to look like.
The use of plastic surgery date back to 2,000 B.C. where Egyptians and Indians would practice on
warriors injured from battle in order to fix their wounded faces. In India and Egypt, ancient
physicians practiced some of the most rudimentary forms of plastic surgery (Janelle). With the
knowledge obtained from these early surgeries, early doctors began to use their practices

The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident
Under the Johnson legislation, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident was a catalyst that inevitably escalated
the American involvement in the Vietnam War. It was on August 2nd 1964 that three Vietnamese
torpedo boats allegedly attacked the American destroyer, the U.S.S Maddox. Apprehensive of losing
more countries to communist ideals, the U.S intervened ten years prior to the incident in the Gulf
of Tonkin without any major military campaigns. Influenced by former president Eisenhower s
Domino Theory, which stated that if one country is communist, the other countries would be
influenced by communist ideals, Lyndon B. Johnsonand his administration was led to believe that
the United States was obligated to stop the spread of communism. It was the incident in the Gulf
of Tonkin where the U.S had its first major encounter with the North Vietnamese. Allied with the
south, the Gulf of Tonkin had plunged the United States further into a full scale war. However,
with America s response to escalate the war, many people wonder even today if the Gulf of
Tonkin was truly a counter offensive from the North Vietnamese. Did the U.S really act
responding to Vietnamese aggression or did the U.S just declare that they responded to an act of
aggression just to escalate the war? Under the lead of President Harry Truman, in 1947, a foreign
policy doctrine was forged during the Cold Warcalled the Containment Policy which states that the
United States did not aim to ignite a war with the Soviet Union,

International Economics And Trade On My Sophomore Year
One of the most important decisions I have made is transferring my major to International
Economics and Trade in my sophomore year. From then on, I find my potential to be a quick
learner. In my new field study, I had to adapt to the brand new subject in a short time. Although
my foundation was weaker than my classmates, I studied more profession courses than them,
about 25 hours per week. Besides, I paid more attention to business practice and spent an extra 18
hours on extra curricular activities every week. It was under this circumstance that I completed all
the required courses within two years, which took my classmates three years; the final GPA was
3.2, which ranked top 22% in the class, and my annual GPA kept increasing to 3.7 in my... Show

Second, I also learnt how to bring forward innovation and put it into practice. Through inviting
experts to teach farmers breed bees, we helped beekeepers adopt the new technique to achieve mass
production, successfully developing a new product honey comb that could make a higher profit.
Last, this experience also taught me how to utilize core competence. As students who were for
public benefit, we easily won more support from the society, which facilitated many business
cooperation chances for farmers. Fortunately, based on the model and outcome of project, our team
won runner up out of 200 prestigious universities in the Enactus National Competition in 2015. At
that time, I was sure that entrepreneurship was all about catching the opportunity, taking action and
pursuing success. What further honed my entrepreneurship was my following entrepreneurial
experience. After evaluating the honey comb, I found a market opportunity: there were more
targeted customers and fewer competitors; besides, the profit margin of honey comb is 30% higher
than that of honey. Consequently, I co founded a honey product brand, Chasing Man, with three
other partners. We improved the product by giving up plastic that was widely used as the pack of
honey comb, and by pouring 60% of the money into bamboo made pack that had

Malthus
With 200 years past, much has changed since Malthus published his famous Essay on the Principle
of Population. Nonetheless, his theories remain interwoven in modern discourse about the effects
of our growing population, despite new evidence that challenges his ideas. Malthus argued that as
populations grow exponentially, the linear production of food is unable to feed a rising global
population. Malthus concluded that poverty emanates from this tension between population growth
and food availability. He hypothesized that the earth could only sustain a certain number of people
and that a series of positive checks famine, war, disease and negative checks celibacy, contraception
that keep the population from surpassing its natural limit. Malthus... Show more content on

Merely dismissing Malthus s argument as doomsday nonsense overlooks the reality that indeed, the
global population strains natural resources and furthers environmental degradation. This green
version of Malthusianism more aptly addresses the consequences that exponential population
growth has on our society. Water is often seen in a Malthusian light as scarcity, in areas like Yemen,
are exacerbated by high population growth. Although the absolute amount of water on the globe is
enough to sustain the world s population, it is not distributed equally, resulting in scarcity for
certain populations. Moreover, with increases in populations, our pollution destroys lands and GHG
emissions continue to exacerbate climate change. These effects are most greatly suffered by the
poorest as they are often dependent upon the land and are the most vulnerable in the case of a
natural disaster. Currently, industrial nations consume a disproportionately large amount of the
world s resources and already strain ecological limits. As the global south continues to develop, so
will their consumption. This model of high consumption seen in the first world cannot be sustained
and impossible for developing nations to reproduce given the ecological limits of the earth. As the
middle class in countries like India and China rapidly grow, it is important that governments
particularly in developed nations face the

The Bay Of Pigs Case Study
The Bay of Pigs The plan Kennedy had was to overthrow Fidel Castro of the Cuban government,
but the plan went horribly wrong. Now that it has happened, and we know what went wrong I
will tell you some things that could have helped it go right. First off, I think that having someone
on the ground planning were to drop the bombs would have prevent the deaths of the seven
innocent civilians killed in the bombing. If it was mapped out they wouldn t have died, and the
plan would have been more successful. Another thing Kennedy could have done was had it
planned on a different day because the invaders had to go through bad weather and work with
soggy equipment. This would have helped them be more prepared for the mission. These are only a

Sex Selection Reinforces Oppression Of Women
Abortion in China is a very big issue but unfortunately is mostly executed when the sex of the
child is female. Sex selection in China is fostered by a limiting social structure that disallows
women from performing the roles that men perform, and relegates women to a lower status level.
Individual parents and individual families benefit concretely from having a son born into the
family, while society, and girls and women as a group, are harmed by the widespread practice of
sex selection. Sex selection reinforces oppression of women. Sex selection is best addressed by
ameliorating the situations of women and girls, increasing their autonomy, and elevating their
status in society. One might argue that restricting abortion, prohibiting sex selection, and prohibiting
sex determination would eliminate sex selective abortion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Such practices will turn underground. Sex selective infanticide, and slower death by long term
neglect, could increase. If abortion is restricted, the burden is placed on women seeking abortions
to show that they have a legally acceptable or legitimate reason for a desired abortion, and this
seriously limits women s autonomy. Instead of restricting abortion, banning sex selection, and sex
determination, it is better to address the practice of sex selection by elevating the status of women
and empowering women so that giving birth to a girl is a real and positive option, instead of a
detriment to the parents and family as it is currently. But, if a ban on sex selective abortion or a ban
on sex determination is indeed instituted, then wider social change promoting women s status in
society should be instituted

Biography Of Nik Christensen And Dominic Mcgill

Nik Christensen and Dominic McGill have influenced my art , being tremendously closely
related to my art works. Christensen sees his works as a trailer of a total story , which I decided
to use this idea on my art works , drawing a scene from my life explaining my emotions. McGill
genre she sticks to is paradigm of political discourse. She does not refer to the future but more
about the past , political and events. Her artwork a man is wolf to man , with the organic motions

Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Game Analysis
In 2002 the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, Utah. With this being the first winter
games held in the United States in over twenty years, they wanted to make it the best winter games
that the world has seen. With winning the bid over Sion, Г–stersund and Quebec City on June 16,
1995, this gave them seven years to plan the greatest winter Olympic gamesthat has ever been
played. Although during this bidding process there was some funny business going on with the Salt
Lake City bid team and the International Olympic Committeemembers. This ended up with ten
members of the International Olympic Committee resigning and also the Salt Lake City bid leaders
Tom Welch and Dave Johnson. This went down in history as one of the most controversial in the
light of the scandal (IOC, 2012).
To guarantee a legacy from the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games, the Utah Sports
Commission was set up to create both open recreational and elite game in the state. Since, Utah
has facilitated more than 50 World Cups occasions or real games titles. An expansion in games
support from youngsters was likewise noted, with games, for example, bobsleigh, skeleton,
snowboarding and freestyle and mogul skiing all seeing an upsurge in interest (IOC, 2012, p. 11).

Short Story On Bully
Have a great day Zoe! says my bus driver, the nicest person that I know, as I get up from my seat on
the bus.
I ll try, I say gloomily. I know today will be a day just like all the other 45 days (yes I am counting)
that I have been at this school. Not great.
My family and I moved to California from New York a couple of months ago for my dad s job. My
whole family loves it here, except for me. I would love it here if it wasn t for Jess Mitchel. She is
your typical high school bully that wants to make every girl s life miserable. Being the new girl
of the school makes me her next victim. Jess usually does most of her tormenting at the courtyard
in front of our school, where everyone hangs out and all of the buses unload. As soon as I step off
of the bus, the taunting begins.
Oh my gosh! What is she wearing! Jess yells loudly, causing everyone s attention to be drawn to
me. Where does she get her clothes from? Goodwill? Jess s partner in crime stood beside Jess,
laughing at me. I try to walk as quickly as I can into the school, without making a fool of myself.
But, I should have known that wouldn t be possible with Jess Mitchel around.
I had almost made it into the school, when my worst nightmare happened. The partner in crime
stuck her shoe, a cheetah printed Louboutin high heel, out and tripped me. I was so humiliated that
I had no idea how to react. I glance up to see everyone staring at me.
Don t cry. Stay strong, I repeat in my head. I stand up and finish the few steps that it takes for me
to get into the school.
Thankfully, I do not have any classes with Jess, so I do not see her often during the day. But sadly,
I do have lunch with her. I was able to go through my morning classes without anyone mocking me,
just some slight stares from everyone.
Today s lunch is no different than any other day. I sit by myself at a table in the back corner. Jess
sits near the front of the lunchroom with the cheer team and of course, her partner in crime. Jess
tells jokes about me to her lunch table, the girls laughing at the jokes whether they are funny or not.
Then, Jess stands up, holding her lunch. She starts walking to a place that she would never have
been caught dead in before today. The back

Case Report of Swap Spreads, 2010 Essay example
The article Swap Spreads:2010 talks about a financial abnormity that the 30 year swap spread has
kept negative since late 2008 for a long time, and an arbitrage opportunity based on the bet that
LIBOR would never fall below equivalent government bond interest rates.
Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or
why not?
The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating
interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3
month T bills. In practice, the 3 month T bills are replaced by taking a rolling short position of
repos daily and entering into a 3 month OIS to receive floating and pay fixed (OIS rate) ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, although the article says that the LIBOR OIS spread is little changed, it cannot guarantee
that the spread won t be volatile in the 30 year time.
To sum up, the trade is feasible, but there are still some things that need to be concerned.
Question2: What would be the internal rate of return on the trade over 30 years?
Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much,
the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars.
The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120.
Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000
Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1/4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000
Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32%
Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of financial
institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates?
There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The
swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the
same horizon. So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can
borrow. Investors now think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second,
liquidity is very low in the long end of swaps. The low liquidity is mainly driven by hedging of
exotic derivatives.

The Hugo Chavez Documentary, Questions and Answers
1. After watching the Hugo Chavez documentary it is clear that the subject matter was his
downfall as the republican president. Chavez was the republican president of Venezuelan from
1999 until 2013 when he pasted away from cancer. This documentary showed a lot of the not so
positive posted of views on Chavez. As we discussed after class Chavez wanted to run his
government as a place: for the people, by the people. This is commonly refereed to as a socialist
reform for a president. Chavez could have worked if he consider all of the Venezuelan people. But
it was clear that he did not consider the needs of the middle classpeople, which lead to his
downfall as a president. Failing the middle class people was his strings downfall because these
people took there feelings to the media. In doing so the media showed Chavez to the world in a
negative perspective.
2. For the Chavez documentary both inquisitiveness and character would be an apporaite
description fitting to what attempted to take on as president. But let s focus on the character
aspect for the global hr leadership section of the text book. Character is described on page 88 of
the textbook as character involves a global leaders ability to connect emotionally with people from
diverse cultures and wiry an unwavering demonstration of personal integrity . Chavez tried to be
very charismatic when it came to the lower class Venezuelan people. He promised most these

What Are The Core Values In Beowulf
When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to
analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the
frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image
of the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf, this story is no exception. However, not only is this
Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of
Beowulf, it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors
and people of that area.
In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far
exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the
possibility of losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being
a warrior, but we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about
their achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from
society back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways
warriors acted and held themselves in society.
After first being introduced to Beowulf and his men, many readers would probably agree with the

Choral Chorus Research Paper
A choral ensemble is an organized group of singers, varying in size, that perform together with an
orchestra or opera company. Choral ensembles have been around for thousands and thousands of
years. They have been around for so long that the ancient Greeks used a chorus in their live Greek
Dramas as a major part of their storytelling. Some may believe that a chorus just needs to have
lovely singers in their group and they are good, but that is not the case. In a choral ensemble,
numerous factors like teamwork, participation, attendance, and discipline can make or break a
chorus and can extremely impact their sound.
Discipline is something that is always needed to control large groups of people. In chorus, it is no

It seems like a waste of time if you learn all the songs and come to all the practices and concerts
and just mouth the words the whole time. It may seem like your voice does not matter in an
enormous choral ensemble, but if every single person in that ensemble were to have a mindset
like that, no one would be singing. Also, every voice does matter and can impact a group. If you
re not confident in your voice and that is why you re not participating, then you are robbing
yourself out of good practice time. The more you practice and sing, even if it is done poorly, the
more you will improve. It is also crucial to participate even when the ensemble is not singing.
Answering a question that the teacher asks shows that you are being attentive and are always
listening to your teacher. When an instructor asks a question that they want the choir to answer and
no one answers it shows that no one is paying attention and it is very disrespectful. Finally, and
most importantly, working together as a team is crucial for a choral ensemble to function properly.
When a chorus is in harmony, they make the best...harmonies. When there is tension and negativity
surrounding an ensemble, it is heard through their music and it does not sound good. Teamwork is
the foundation of all choral ensembles. The better the relationship of the group, the better and more

James Joyce
Essay Introduction to Literature
An initiation in James Joyce s story Araby Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations
for themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel
disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the
narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce
concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its
simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the
world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for

The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin.
But on the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the
discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North
Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers
School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging
is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was
about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled,
murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he
does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play
a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards
life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery
of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is
young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to
make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in addition to despair,
represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses dark references to
create the mood or atmosphere

Propaganda In Casablanca
A reading of Casablanca beyond it s pretense of being an old Hollywood romance is the
interpretation of the film as a piece of American or Allied propaganda during its time of release.
Present day, the word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of
manipulation that doesn t belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains
a message that it wishes to convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports
some school of thought or ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to
mean the dissemination of information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering
sympathy towards the cause and validating the emotions of sympathizers. The transformation

Pericles, Augustus Caesar, and Emperor Constantine were all great influencers during their time. So
once they were all deceased and were brought together in the afterlife, there were always great
stories and discussions of their time on earth and all that was accomplished by not only them, but
by their culture as a whole. One time, before their most notable argument, Augustus Caesar briefly
stated that it was a blessing and a curse to be associated with the Roman culture because even as the
most important contributor to art and architecture in the Western world , his time as an emperor
was actually very stressful and long winded. That statement created an uproar amongst the men and

Constantine the Great was a solo emperor who fostered the growth of Christianity in the Roman
empire. To begin with, art of the Christian world focused on stylization, stiffness, and the symbolic
(conceptual imagery). There was no interest in the human form or emotions shown through
naturalism and illusionism because the art s main focus was that it had aspects of faith and
spirituality. This was displayed through themes that correlated with the bible, like the death and
resurrection of Christ. Constantine used the Early Christian wall fresco titled Catacomb of St. Peter
and Marcellinus to touch base on themes and symbolism that Christian art resonated with. The
catacombs overall design was painted as a cross, a prominent Christian symbol. The picture in the
middle of the Good Shepherd and Jonah the Whale were prefiguration, stories that foreshadow the
Life of Christ himself. A lot of art, like the one Constantine mentioned above, were principal
narratives of Christ in the new testament of the Bible. Christian architecture utilized spolia, which is
the use of old architectural elements to build something new. To accompany the large scale
Christian architecture, they adapted a new art form, called wall mosaics. There was a sudden
interest in covering huge wall surfaces with images worthy of their monumental framework. These
mosaics to this day are displayed on walls on Catholic churches throughout the United States and
other countries as well. A

The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In The Catholic...
Faith and Reason have long been a topic of discussion in the Catholic Church. Some might say
that faith and reason contradict each other, but the Catholic church disagrees. In the Catechism of
the Catholic church it states, Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real
discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses
faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny himself, nor can truth
ever contradict truth. 37 Consequently, methodical research in all branches of knowledge
provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never
conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the
same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it
were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made
them what they are (CCC 159).The Catholic churchteaches that reason is a gift from God, and
therefore, all things researched are done through because he is the one who has created the person
doing the reasoning. God wants us to use our minds in ways that honor him, and the Catholic
church continues to reinforce that this idea of faith and reasoning go together, hand in hand. Faith
is having the faith in the system of reason that is used to infer answers from the Bible. The church
teaches that there can never be a big difference between the

These characteristics grab the attention of individuals and persuade them to buy whatever it is a

the company suggests that their product is the product for you. So how would a person know that

Demographic Trends Of The Demographic Transition Model
The demographic transition model shows historical population trends of two demographic
characteristics such as birth rate and death rate. (Grover, D. 2014). In 1929 a demographic observer
named Warren Thompson decided to make a chart that showed transitions in death and birth rates
changed in an industrialized society of the last two hundred years. (Montgomery, K. 2015). The
demographic model shows if populationincreased or decreased in all countries due to their
economy stability. If there were countries with high death and birth rate, what the factors that
contributed to the high or low rates such as not enough food, or what diseases people were getting
to make those rates increase. There are four phases of demographic transition. Stage 1 is known as
the Pre transition stage. This is characterized by birth rates, and high fluctuating death rates. Stage
2 is known as the Early Transition stage. During this stage rate begins to fall, while the birth rates
remain high, and the population begins to grow. Stage 3 is known as the Late Transition stage. In
this stage birth rate starts to decline, and the population growth begins to decline. Stage 4 is known
as the Post Transition stage. In this stage there is low birth and death rate, and population also
declines. According to demographers, the factors that lead to a decline in CDR during stage 2 and
stage 3 of the demographic transition stages was high birth rate, which mean the population

The Gap Between Science And Science Fiction
Science fiction is full of machines that have feelings. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the onboard
computer turns against the crew of the spaceship Discovery 1, and utters cries of pain and fear
when his circuits are finally taken apart. In Blade Runner, a humanoid robot is distressed to learn
that her memories are not real, but have been implanted in her silicon brain by her programmer. In
Bicentennial Man, Robin Williams plays the part of a robot who redesigns his own circuitry so that
he can experience the full range of human feelings. These stories achieve their effect in part because
the capacity for emotionis often considered to be one of the main differences between humans and
machines. This is certainly true of the machines we know today. The responses we receive from
computers are rather dry affairs, such as System error 1378 . People sometimes get angry with
their computers and shout at them as if they had emotions, but the computers take no notice. They
neither feel their own feelings, nor recognize yours. The gap between science fiction and science
fact appears vast, but some researchers in artificial intelligence now believe it is only a question of
time before it is bridged.
The new field of affective computing has already made some progress in building primitive
emotional machines, and every month brings new advances. However, some critics argue that a
machine could never come to have real emotions like ours. At best, they claim, clever programming

The Great Gatsby Modernism Essay
Modernism is a very broad term that is often misconstrued. Modern art is used to describe art that
has been created recently. The word people mean to use is contemporary . Modern art is a tough
adjective to define. Modern art has many definitions including 1920s through 1940s, Dadaist, and
streaming consciousness. However, conspicuous consumptionis the term that should always be
thought of when someone mentions modernism and that art associated with it. Modernism can be
defined using Thorstein Veblens conspicuous consumption.
To understand conspicuous consumption, we first must know a little about Thorstein Veblen, the
man who came up with the perspective. Thorstein Veblen was an economist and sociologist
popular for Conspicuous Consumption and his book The Theory of the Leisure Class . He was
born in July of 1857 and died at the age of 72 in August of 1929. He got a degree from Johns

The Rise And Fall Of Spain
The Social, Political and Economic Reasons of the Rise and Fall of Spain
During the 15th century, many considered Spain insignificant. However, within a century it
became a world dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was
also short lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and
successful voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control,
resistance from other countries and inflation.
The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of
Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo
imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain s religion they
brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also
established the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It s was
originally used to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who
questioned the Catholic Church. Isabella and Ferdinand s marriage later triggered the Golden Age,
which is often interpreted as the age of learning. It increased the acknowledgement on the arts and
literatures in cities and countless people became artists who later emerged as influential figures.
With the help of many artists, Golden Age successfully uniformed the values of both socially and
culturally Spaniards.

Castle Of Otranto Essay
Gothic Elements of Castle of Otranto Does Castle of Otranto have all characteristics of gothic
literature? Is this novel enough to create a gothic atmosphere? These questions make us need
several gothic stories and romans. Because in gothic literature, there are several characteristics
which influence the plot and settings. It might be know that Castle of Otranto is generally
regarded as the first gothic novel. It means that this novel created some of the characteristics of
gothic and added them new ones. If we take a look at these characteristics, we can see the
influences and additives of this novel. The places where the stories happen has several features
which they might be remembered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the good texts, timing and language can not be separated. Because they influence each other.
By creating this kind of language which is a good example for that time s language, the writer
show how he creates the suspense. The language of the novel is effective enough to make us
feel frightened, curious and felt like that these characters literally lived these moments in that
era. The mysterious issues have an important place in the text. For example, curse is the element
which completes the gothic style in this novel. The castle and lordship of Otranto should pass
from the present family, whenever the real owner should be grown to large to inhabit it. The
curse, in the text, creates a tension, especially if we consider its conclusions. Generally, in
Gothic, there should be supernatural elements like in Castle of Otranto. For example, Conrad
being crushed by a helmet, as well as Diego and Jacquez s finding of the giant armored corpse.
Ghosts also are represented throughout the text. For examples; the armor which moves belongs
to Alfonso who is not restful. In the first chapter we also see father of Manfred as a ghost which
can move in and out of the picture and slap the door in front of Manfred. As a conclusion, it has
several features which belongs to gothic literature. In doing so, The Castle of Otranto is a perfect

Recycle Bin
пѓ A short note on Recycle bin.
Recycle bin is an icon on the Windows desktop that represents a directory where deleted files are
temporarily stored. This enables you to retrieve files that you may have accidentally deleted.
From time to time, you ll want to purge the recycle bin to free up space on your hard disk. You
can also configure Windows so that it doesn t use the recycle bin at all, but then you won t be able
to retrieve accidentally deleted files.
Items in the Recycle Bin remain there until you decide to permanently delete them from your
computer. These items still take up hard disk space and can be undeleted or restored back to their
original location. When it fills up, Windows automatically cleans out enough space in the ... Show

The Recycle Bin can be accessed via the desktop (In fact it is the only icon shown by default on
the Windows XP desktop) or Windows Explorer. The Recycle Bin, when accessed from the
desktop, has different options and information than what Windows Explorer normally would have
as seen from the physical location. In an NTFS environment, users cannot see deleted files in the
Recycle Bin of other user.
Files in the Recycle Bin are stored in its physical location and renamed as D.. A hidden file
called info2 (info in Windows 95) stores the files original paths and names. When the user views
the Recycle Bin, the files are displayed with their original names. When the file is Restored from
the Recycle Bin, it is returned to its original directory and name.
When the file is deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, the space on the disk used by the file is
designated as free without any changes being made to the file data itself. Future files will
overwrite the data when they are saved on the disk. In other words, the data is not erased, but the
address marking the data s existence is.
Deleting files
In Windows Explorer, files are moved to the Recycle Bin in a number of ways:
By right clicking on a file and selecting delete from the menu
Selecting the file and pressing the delete key
Selecting delete from the side menu in Windows XP
Selecting the file and choosing delete from

Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing and Renaissance...
Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing takes place in Messina, a city state of Renaissance
Italy. The Renaissance was a period in European history believed to have been between AD 1300
and AD 1600 with a feudal society of agricultural economy and church dominated culture. It was
during the Renaissancethat Europe was transformed into a society dominated by central political
institutions with education, arts and music heavily influenced by the Christian religion. In Italy,
cities such as Florence, Ferrara, Milan, and Venice flourished. These cities were able to finance
cultural achievements. Medieval Italian merchants developed commercial and financial techniques
such as bookkeeping and bills of exchange. Italian city stateswere... Show more content on

One of John s men enacts a scene at Hero s window with a woman who appears to be Hero.
When Claudio and Pedro observe this, they are easily deceived and Claudio angrily denounces
Hero to be hidden as though dead until Claudio regains his senses. When the constable, Dogberry,
arrests John s men, who then readily confess their guilt, Claudio is forced to admit his error in
thinking Hero would deceive him. He then mourns for her and agrees to marry her cousin. The
cousin turns out to be a disguised and forgiving Hero. After all this ado the two couples are
married and Don John is arrested.
Don Pedro is a linking character, playing many key roles in the play. In many ways, he shows the
influence of the time period. Being the prince of Aragon, a region in northeast Spain, he carries
the title of respect Don . He seems to be the stereotypical leader of the Renaissance times,
enjoying being in charge as well as possessing the ability to woo young women. He also shows
the time period in the situation with his brother Don John. Because he was born outside of
marriage, Don John has no official claim on any of his family s wealth or position. He then tries to
overthrow Pedro in battle.
Other characters positions also illustrate the time period. For example, Dogberry and Verges who
are the constable and deputy constable. Their rough habits and garbled speech show the
mannerisms of the Renaissance peasants. Hero s maidservants occasional vulgar comments also
demonstrate

A complaint filed with the US District Court had alleged that the norms were not met by the company even in its facilities in US. Some batches of drugs were called back due to contamination (presence of glass particles). But Ohm Laboratories, Ranbaxy s US subsidiary, failed to give required reports to FDA. These violations were found when Ohm Laboratories Gloversville facility was inspected. Ranbaxy s attempt to make corrections was inadequate. According to Nirmal Bang Senior Research Analyst Praful Bohra, the company needs to strengthen its internal processes immediately and ensure that the quality of medicines do not suffer at all. There should be stricter surveillance and accountability. Another industry analyst with a consulting firm reiterates, In the business of medicine, quality comes first and you just cannot take a risk with that. When you are in such a crisis, even a small suspicion can play spoilsport. But Ranbaxy continued to be lax in trying to restore its credibility and failed to bounce back. The lava met and turned the surface water into steam, which caused an accumulation of liquid gases. It is therefore believed that the eruption of Lion s Haunch was enormous. The cone formed around the vent consists of layers of lava, ash and agglomerate. The agglomerate usually falls back to the vent. As the rock was rising, it eventually expanded above the water level. The later erption were therefore subaerial. There is some evidence found that the rock was later inhabited by plants and even trees. Figure (....) presents fossilised plants as found in the area. As the Lion s Head vent became blocked the lava cut through the vent and erupted through the bigger Lion s Haunch vent. It is believed that it was bigger than the former ... The Types of Cosmetic Surgery and How They Are Affected by Body Image Studies have shown that, 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2012. As cosmetic economic indicators such as auto, retail, and home sales saw gains in 2012 so too did plastic surgery (www.plasticsurgery.org). This statistic has proved that across the United States people are being affected with the opinion and views formed based off of Body Image. Throughout the years, the ideas of body image have changed based off of people s personal desires on what they should look like or on trend . Women, children, and even men base their body image on what society believes is ideal. In some years, society might believe that a small waist and a thin frame might be the perfect body image. In others, the curvier frame would be the ideal body image. People have gone down the path of cosmetic surgery in order to meet their needs and desires for what they believe are the perfect body . The types of plastic surgery that are being performed correlate directly to the ideas of what body image is supposed to look like. The use of plastic surgery date back to 2,000 B.C. where Egyptians and Indians would practice on warriors injured from battle in order to fix their wounded faces. In India and Egypt, ancient physicians practiced some of the most rudimentary forms of plastic surgery (Janelle). It was on August 2nd 1964 that three Vietnamese torpedo boats allegedly attacked the American destroyer, the U.S.S Maddox. Apprehensive of losing more countries to communist ideals, the U.S intervened ten years prior to the incident in the Gulf of Tonkin without any major military campaigns. Influenced by former president Eisenhower s Domino Theory, which stated that if one country is communist, the other countries would be influenced by communist ideals, Lyndon B. Johnsonand his administration was led to believe that the United States was obligated to stop the spread of communism. It was the incident in the Gulf of Tonkin where the U.S had its first major encounter with the North Vietnamese. Allied with the south, the Gulf of Tonkin had plunged the United States further into a full scale war. However, with America s response to escalate the war, many people wonder even today if the Gulf of Tonkin was truly a counter offensive from the North Vietnamese. Did the U.S really act responding to Vietnamese aggression or did the U.S just declare that they responded to an act of aggression just to escalate the war? Nonetheless, his theories remain interwoven in modern discourse about the effects of our growing population, despite new evidence that challenges his ideas. Malthus argued that as populations grow exponentially, the linear production of food is unable to feed a rising global population. Malthus concluded that poverty emanates from this tension between population growth and food availability. Merely dismissing Malthus s argument as doomsday nonsense overlooks the reality that indeed, the global population strains natural resources and furthers environmental degradation. This green version of Malthusianism more aptly addresses the consequences that exponential population growth has on our society. Water is often seen in a Malthusian light as scarcity, in areas like Yemen, are exacerbated by high population growth. Although the absolute amount of water on the globe is enough to sustain the world s population, it is not distributed equally, resulting in scarcity for certain populations. Moreover, with increases in populations, our pollution destroys lands and GHG emissions continue to exacerbate climate change. These effects are most greatly suffered by the poorest as they are often dependent upon the land and are the most vulnerable in the case of a natural disaster. Currently, industrial nations consume a disproportionately large amount of the world s resources and already strain ecological limits. As the global south continues to develop, so will their consumption. Sex selection in China is fostered by a limiting social structure that disallows women from performing the roles that men perform, and relegates women to a lower status level. Individual parents and individual families benefit concretely from having a son born into the family, while society, and girls and women as a group, are harmed by the widespread practice of sex selection. Sex selection reinforces oppression of women. Sex selection is best addressed by ameliorating the situations of women and girls, increasing their autonomy, and elevating their status in society. If abortion is restricted, the burden is placed on women seeking abortions to show that they have a legally acceptable or legitimate reason for a desired abortion, and this seriously limits women s autonomy. Instead of restricting abortion, banning sex selection, and sex determination, it is better to address the practice of sex selection by elevating the status of women and empowering women so that giving birth to a girl is a real and positive option, instead of a detriment to the parents and family as it is currently. Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or why not? The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars. The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120. What type of financial institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates? There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon. So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very low in the long end of swaps. What Are The Core Values In Beowulf When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image of the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf, this story is no exception. However, not only is this Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of Beowulf, it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors and people of that area. In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the possibility of losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being a warrior, but we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about their achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from society back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways warriors acted and held themselves in society. After first being introduced to Beowulf and his men, many readers would probably agree with the fact of being surprised by their appearance and first impressions when they came to Denmark. Some may believe that a chorus just needs to have lovely singers in their group and they are good, but that is not the case. Also, every voice does matter and can impact a group. If you re not confident in your voice and that is why you re not participating, then you are robbing yourself out of good practice time. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: O love! These facts play a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. My Father died a six days after my birth, and then I became Mary, Queen of Scots, with my mother acting as a regent in my stead (Source 1). At just five years of age, I was betrothed to Henry VIII s son, Edward, but my Catholic guardians were opposed to the match, and took me too Stirling Castle, breaking the agreement(Source 1). The Scots betrothed me to the son of Henry II, Francis, the four year old heir to the French crown, and sent me to be raised at his courts (Source 1). I loved him with a strong sisterly affection (Source 4) and he loved me as a brother would love a sister. So once they were all deceased and were brought together in the afterlife, there were always great stories and discussions of their time on earth and all that was accomplished by not only them, but by their culture as a whole. One time, before their most notable argument, Augustus Caesar briefly stated that it was a blessing and a curse to be associated with the Roman culture because even as the most important contributor to art and architecture in the Western world , his time as an emperor was actually very stressful and long winded. Constantine the Great was a solo emperor who fostered the growth of Christianity in the Roman empire. To begin with, art of the Christian world focused on stylization, stiffness, and the symbolic (conceptual imagery). There was no interest in the human form or emotions shown through naturalism and illusionism because the art s main focus was that it had aspects of faith and spirituality. This was displayed through themes that correlated with the bible, like the death and resurrection of Christ. Constantine used the Early Christian wall fresco titled Catacomb of St. Peter and Marcellinus to touch base on themes and symbolism that Christian art resonated with. The catacombs overall design was painted as a cross, a prominent Christian symbol. The picture in the middle of the Good Shepherd and Jonah the Whale were prefiguration, stories that foreshadow the Life of Christ himself. A lot of art, like the one Constantine mentioned above, were principal narratives of Christ in the new testament of the Bible. Christian architecture utilized spolia, which is the use of old architectural elements to build something new. To accompany the large scale Christian architecture, they adapted a new art form, called wall mosaics. There was a sudden interest in covering huge wall surfaces with images worthy of their monumental framework. These mosaics to this day are displayed on walls on Catholic churches throughout the United States and other countries as well. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In The Catholic... Faith and Reason have long been a topic of discussion in the Catholic Church. Some might say that faith and reason contradict each other, but the Catholic church disagrees. In the Catechism of the Catholic church it states, Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth. 37 Consequently, methodical research in all branches of knowledge provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are (CCC 159).The Catholic churchteaches that reason is a gift from God, and therefore, all things researched are done through because he is the one who has created the person doing the reasoning. God wants us to use our minds in ways that honor him, and the Catholic church continues to reinforce that this idea of faith and reasoning go together, hand in hand. Faith is having the faith in the system of reason that is used to infer answers from the Bible. The church teaches that there can never be a big difference between the ... Demographic Trends Of The Demographic Transition Model The demographic transition model shows historical population trends of two demographic characteristics such as birth rate and death rate. (Grover, D. 2014). In 1929 a demographic observer named Warren Thompson decided to make a chart that showed transitions in death and birth rates changed in an industrialized society of the last two hundred years. (Montgomery, K. 2015). The demographic model shows if populationincreased or decreased in all countries due to their economy stability. If there were countries with high death and birth rate, what the factors that contributed to the high or low rates such as not enough food, or what diseases people were getting to make those rates increase. There are four phases of demographic transition. Stage 1 is known as the Pre transition stage. This is characterized by birth rates, and high fluctuating death rates. Stage 2 is known as the Early Transition stage. During this stage rate begins to fall, while the birth rates remain high, and the population begins to grow. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the onboard computer turns against the crew of the spaceship Discovery 1, and utters cries of pain and fear when his circuits are finally taken apart. In Blade Runner, a humanoid robot is distressed to learn that her memories are not real, but have been implanted in her silicon brain by her programmer. In Bicentennial Man, Robin Williams plays the part of a robot who redesigns his own circuitry so that he can experience the full range of human feelings. These stories achieve their effect in part because the capacity for emotionis often considered to be one of the main differences between humans and machines. This is certainly true of the machines we know today. The responses we receive from computers are rather dry affairs, such as System error 1378 . People sometimes get angry with their computers and shout at them as if they had emotions, but the computers take no notice. They neither feel their own feelings, nor recognize yours. The gap between science fiction and science fact appears vast, but some researchers in artificial intelligence now believe it is only a question of time before it is bridged. However, within a century it became a world dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was also short lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and successful voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control, resistance from other countries and inflation. The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain s religion they brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also established the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It s was originally used to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who questioned the Catholic Church.
