Angels In America Play Analysis
The play made me feel several emotions. For the most part, I sympathized with the majority of
the characters. I especially felt an emotional attachment to Prior and Harper. Both of these
characters needed to be taken care of, but they were ultimately abandoned. Harper seems
confident that she will be fine on her own, but the thought of her being alone still saddens me. I
was also happy to read a play that dealt with Mormonism. I grew up as a Mormon and I am
interested when a piece of work addresses that particular form of Christianity. Mormonism is not
addressed in theatre and entertainment very often, so I found that particular element of the play
interesting. It is clear that AIDSis an important subject in Angels in America: Millennium

The company s total capacity increased to 22.4 billion (1.3%) available seats. Paired with the
decline in passenger traffic, load factors fell to 80.4 percent compared to 81.6 percent a year ago.
The dip in passenger traffic was American s first year over year decrease in 2016. Tuesday s
announcement comes after the company reported a $700 million first quarter profit last month,
lower than last year s first quarter profits of $932 million but still enough to beat analyst estimates.
In its filing, American said it expects its passenger revenue per available seat mile, a measure of

The Drinking Age Should Be Lowered Essay
There are numerous problems involving alcohol in the world today, including alcoholism, drunk
driving, and alcohol poisoning leading to death. Many of these problems involve minors and
are linked to drinking underage. The legal drinking age in many states is twenty one years old.
The purpose of this law is to keep minors out of danger: away from drunk driving, alcohol
poisoning, and injuring the brain before it is fully developed. The government supports the belief
that people are not ready or responsible enough for alcohol until this age. However, various
professors and researchers are discovering ways to disprove this belief. These people think that
reducing the drinking age to eighteen would influence our country in a positive... Show more

McCardell suggests it is time to rethink the drinking age in the United States (McCardell, 2012).
First of all, why are eighteen year olds considered minors only when it comes to drinking? After all,
they are legally permitted to drive, get married, smoke cigarettes, and even to join the army. If they
can make the choice to do these things, are they not capable of making the choice to drink? The
drinking age in America has changed multiple times throughout our history. In fact, there were no
such things as mandates on drinking until 1851, when Maine passed the law on prohibition. Soon
after, many other states followed in their footsteps. Congress first pressed the issue on the whole
country in 1917, and the law was ratified two years later. In 1920, the government created the 18th
Amendment, which officially banned everyone from the production, distribution, and consumption
of alcohol. Throughout this entire time period, the demand for alcohol continued to thrive, leading
to flourishing acts of bootlegging (Rotunda, 2004). It took years for the government to give up on
this law, but it did finally happen. In the 1970 s, the government created a legal drinking age:
eighteen years. This law worked pretty well for the country still consisted of flaws, but nothing
more than what we have today. Not until the National Minimum Drinking Age Actof 1984 did this
change. With the passage of this act, individual states had the option of keeping the age

Hospice Is A Good Option For Them
If a patient does not have the ability to exercise the right to die, hospice is a really good option for
them to control the pain and pass peacefully. Hospice care is specialized care designed to provide
support to a person and their loved ones during an advanced illness, it focuses on comfort and
quality of life rather than a cure. (Hospice, 2015) Hospice is really the only option for people who
live in states that do not support the right to die; it strives to give the patient the highest possible
quality of life and make them comfortable, so they can live their final days to the fullest. Hospice
is offered in the home, in long term care facilities, and hospice will do about anything to keep the
patient comfortable. They help prepare their patients and their families for the approaching death,
and they offer bereavement services to the family after the death for up to three months. Hospice
is a great resource for people who are ready to stop fighting and be comfortable, but it still does
not provide the freedom that the right to die laws can, like allowing people to make their own
choices about their life.
Right to die laws are state mandated in only four states: Oregon, California, Washington, and
Vermont. State mandated means that if a person meets the requirements to exercise their right to
die, and he can find a physician that will write their prescription, he is free to do as he pleases. In
Montana, right to die is mandated by court ruling, which means you must go to

Laura s Identity
2.Laura and the workers The workers are significant in their role as they represent an artificial
image of lower class people. Furthermore, Laura is also influenced by her upbringing which
conveyed a specific impression of working class people. The workers in the garden exist within
the Sheridan s domain, an upper class establishment, which marks them as non threatening to the
established hierarchies between the social classes. They are an artificial representation of lower
class workers, but they are also the people who mark the change in Laura s class perception and

Sheridan s most notable feature is her constant consideration of the family s reputation and the
success of the garden party. Roazen argues that people like Mrs. Sheridan lack an individual
character and attempt to imitate others as they cannot subsist on their shadow personality
(Roazen ???). Therefore Mrs. Sheridan defines herself and her family through their higher
position in the societal hierarchy (Kaya 57). It is substantial to note that Mrs. Sheridan begins
to initiate Laura into the rites of an upper class women and conveys the social morals and values
(Kaya 56) by giving her the task to oversee the workers (336). This process is continued when
Mrs. Sheridan instructs a man on where to place the lilies and asks Laura if she agrees (340).
Laura s agreement illustrates her powerlessness regarding her agency (Dada BГјchel 47) when it
comes to her mother and her mother s control over her agency

Why Are Wildfires Important To Society
Have you ever stopped to wonder if wildfires truly important to society? Well after doing some
research, wildfires play an important role in the natural adaptations that occur in the Earth s
ecosystem. On the NASA Earth Observatory: Global Fire Monitoring website states that The
diversity of plant and animal life in the world s forest, prairies, and wetlands in (partly)
dependent on the effects of fire; in fact some plants can not reproduce without fire . The reason
why some plants are dependent on wildfires is because the fire breaks open the outer layer of the
seeds and invigorate germination. Fires begin vital natural process for nutrients. Rain then passes
the nutrients back into the soil restoring fertile seedbed for plants. Wildfires impact on the
ecosystem, plays a major part in forming the ecosystems by serving as an agent of restoration and
change. These fires can also be extremely dangerous, destroying homes, wildlife habitats, timber
and it also pollutes the air with radiation that is harmful to the human life. These wildfires also

The small town society became a stranger when we moved to Maryland. The East Coast had
numerous identities. Two street blocks right next to one another felt worlds apart. The people
there were as culturally embracive as the city, all of them being unique and diverse. A perfect
utopia that didn t formally accept me. Baltimore is where I spent the rest of first grade and much of
second grade. My classroom experience was rather interesting, the education department there
wanted us to experience multiple teachers in one day, group projects, and most importantly the
staff wanted to see students mold their own learning experiences. My initial learning process
from Mississippi did not stop me from quickly adjusting and enjoying school every single day.
My home life at the time matched the same excitement as school. I was going to be a big brother.
Months passed since the move to Baltimore and I experienced so much in so little time. I forgot
the place I once called home. I longed to be apart of the utopia I intruded into. My mother and her
fiance had some tension and decided to move back to their home states.
Mississippi felt like a vague dream. Nothing was comprehensible. I was an observer again.
Second grade felt like a chore to complete. The feeling of disconnect was embodied by the fear of
social interaction. I spent the rest of second grade a quiet mute only wishing not to be noticed.
Effort to change my current circumstances were made during third grade.

Currently, in the state of Florida the Federal Appeals court is battling arguments of a judge ruling

The district judge thinks that individual whom receive assistance already provide a wide range of

Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Intervention
Mr. Harry Bright has undergone a procedure called percutaneous transluminal coronary
intervention (PTCI) via femoral approach for the treatment of his progressive unstable angina.
Femoral artery is the most common access site used for PCI because of its size and its direct
passageway to the heart (Young, 2014 p.431; Cosman, Arthur, Bryant Lukosius, Strachan, 2015
p.180). In this procedure, a cardiac catheter followed by a stent is inserted to the arteryto dilate the
occluded bloodvessel and improve blood flow (Young, 2014 p.430). The occlusive atherosclerotic
plaque are usually associated with Mr. Bright s diabetes, hypetension and smoking history. Contrary

No further data was mentioned apart from minimal oozing. This led to the understanding that
because angioplasty is an invasive procedure it is vital to perform a thorough assessment on the
wound site to check for signs of bleeding and infection. As cited by Benbow (2016 para.1) in her
article, an accurate wound assessment would yield to the delivery of effective nursing management
and prevention of impending health issues. Moreover, she also mentioned in her paper that
comorbidities such as diabetes, smoking, and ageing would slow down the healing process (para.4).
These comorbidities are well presented in Mr. Bright s history. This study is further augmented by
an evaluation research headed by Greatrex White and Moxley (2013 p.295 296) wherein they
enumerated a criteria necessary for wound assessment. In their research, the wound assessmet tool
comprises of the following: details and characteristics, wound measurement using, tissue type,
exudate, pain, signs of infection, and surrounding skin. Furthermore, since hematoma formation, a
benchmark of wound assessment tends to occur after patient is discharged, educating him and his
significant other how to measure his hematoma is significant. Cosman et. al. (2015 p.182 183)
proposed different methods of measuring hematoma. A general method described includes the
precise measurement of length and width of the wound

Migrant Workers in The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men
John Steinbeck wrote about what surrounded him. At the time he was writing, the nineteen
thirties, a great depression was plaguing the United States. Many people were out of work. Many
farmers were losing their farms and homes. An extreme drought had also wrecked the farms of
the Midwest and made them into what is now referred to as the dust bowl . It was a terrible time
to be poor, and most were. People died of malnutrition every day. In California, where Steinbeck
resided, migrant workers dominated the workforce. Thousands traveled from all around to pick fruit
in the farms of the Salinas Valley for minuscule wages. Thousands more could not find suitable...

Lennie, for example, becomes fixated on the dream of having a farm with George. George tells
him, we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres
an a cow and some pigs and....a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens (Steinbeck,
Of Mice and Men 13,14). Lennie, because of his lower than normal mentality, takes George s
story to be fact and just dreams of when it will happen. George s dream is essentially the same,
but is based on if it will happen not when it will happen. George has to dream more realistically
than Lennie. Lennie wants to live off the fatta the lan , but George has to determine whether
they could survive or would starve. George, who looks after Lennie through the whole story,
fulfills, at least in a way, Lennie s dream. At the end of the book, George describes the happy
place he and Lennie will have. George seems to be describing their heaven. So, he sends Lennie
to heaven with a gun shot to the back of the head to live off the fat of the land. George knows
that shooting Lennie is the best thing he can do. He seems to follow Candy s words: I ought to of
shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn t ought to have let no stranger shoot my dog. George
knows that Curly will shoot Lennie when he finds him, so, by taking his life quickly and
essentially painlessly, George fulfills Lennie s dream and shows one last instant of companionship

How Did Dorothy Hodgkin Contribute To Science
What is the legacy of Dorothy Hodgkin, both on the study of structure on an atomic scale and for
women in science?
By Ruqayyah Haq
I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first
exposed to these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents
(Dr A.F. Joseph) who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him.
Her interest grew and she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes
with the boys at school. Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University
of Oxford and after she went on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin
evidently academically excelled in science it was when she attended a special course in
crystallography (a combination of maths, physics and chemistry) where she was inspired to
continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical science of x ray. In order to do this she
moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her independent research career in 1934.
Due to her motivation to understand Crystallography, Dr. Hodgkin was able to make important
discoveries in different areas of science. These discoveries have each made a positive change for

Laremy Tunsil Gas Mask Case Study
It didn t all start with Laremy Tunsil s gas mask. Of the 13 violations levied by the NCAA

has lifted the Rebels to prominence. But nine did occur under Hugh Freeze, and more revelations

On Friday, Ole Miss revealed the NCAA s notice of allegations and, seeking to mitigate the
damage, forfeited 11 football scholarships over a four year span. The school received its notice
in January and released it the Friday before Memorial Day. Even that bit of PR artistry failed to
bury the lead, which was: Ole Miss has requested more time to investigate whether Tunsil, captured
in a video while wearing a gas mask and smoking something of uncertain provenance, was paid to

Tunsil was named in three allegations. Others could be forthcoming. Shortly after the gas mask clip

That s the effect a gas mask video and a fall from a hotel ledge can have on prospective employers,

PTSD In Military
Mental health illness is a major issue that several United States systems faces daily. Mental
illness can contribute to high crime rates, suicide, drug addiction, mass shootings, prison
overcrowding, and several other problems. This paper will discuss and examine mental health
issues as it develops and result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the United States
Military, and specifically how PTSD can result in suicide among military service members. PTSD
is commonly and well known to infantry soldiers who were mostly deployed to Afghanistan and
Iraq war between 2001 and 2003 due to an overwhelming and challenging environment. The war in
Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq conflicts, both have had a an actual impact on soldiers mental
health. In addition, infantrymen are most likely to experience at least one event as a minimum that
may result in PTSD than any other divisions in the military. According to Walter Reed Army
Institute of Research, Major Gary Wynn provides statistics shows that 93 percent report coming
under fire from artillery, rockets, and mortars. 91 percent say their unit has been attacked or
ambushed. 87 percent say they know someone who has been seriously injured or killed (Robson

Although PTSD is a somewhat new diagnosis that was related with military service members
when it was first introduced. During a period roughly from the end of the Second World War to
the early 1990s, neither epidemiology, medical geography, nor medical sociology tended
directly to study the impact of the local social or physical environment on human health,
according to Perspectives in Medical Sociology (Brown 2008). PTSD was accepted everywhere
when it was introduced as a diagnosis in the early 1980s in the third edition of the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM III) of the American Psychiatric Association.
Although PTSD diagnosis met largely with skepticism by the public of the validity of the
illness when first came out. Blair Wheaton and Shirin Montazer provided a detailed definition of
Traumatic Stress in their chapter of Stressors, Stress, and Distress by stating, some stressors are
thought to be so serious and so overwhelming in their impact that we must give them a separate
status to distinguish them from the usual class of events that we designate as stressful. The most
applicable term for these stressors is traumas (Wheaton Montazer 2010). In other words, PTSD
is a complex mental disorder that develops in response to exposure to a severe traumatic event
that stems a cluster of symptoms. Being afflicted with the disorder is debilitating and disrupt an
individual s ability to function and perform the basic tasks. PTSD affects 3.5 percent of the U.S.
adult population and approximately about 7 million Americans. Women however are more likely
to develop PTSD than men, and about 37percent of those cases are classified as severe. Although
PTSD can occur at any age, however the average is in the early 20s in person s

However, the fixed prices at Best Buy didn t put pressure on consumers to purchase items right

chain operators have strong bargaining power with suppliers and efficient management of the
supply chain, which gives companies cost advantages that allows them to retain profit margin,
(Fang, 2012). These issues hurt Best Buy s expansion into China and, by 2011, Best Buy closed
all of its stores in China and in December 2014, they announced its decision to sell its Five Star
stores to Jiayuan, (Bailey, 2015). Where Best Buy focused on marketing and customer services to
differentiate their store from others, their competitors understood that the Chinese consumer was
more concerned with products and good deals on prices. Since a global strategy requires lots of
centralization, this slowed down Corporate s responsive times to adjust to China s local market.
I believe Best Buy s performance could have been better had they entered the Chinese market
differently. Buying land and building these few big stores similar to what you may find in every

How Does Sylvia Plath Use Humor
Death is Funny: Sylvia Plath s Use of Humor in Lady Lazarus Humor and Sylvia Plath are words
not generally heard in the same sentence. Although her poetry is widely read, we as a society tend
to associate her writing with the inherent darkness in her words, and we tend to ignore everything
else, particularly with regards to the poetryshe wrote near the end of her life. The morbidity in her
writing is most definitely there, but it is often expressed using humor. I will be examining Plath s
poem Lady Lazarus, and in particular the way that Plath uses humor throughout the poem through
her use of sarcasm, hyperbole and absurd comparisons, rhyme, and circus imagery. I will also be
looking at the possible reasons why Plath uses humor throughout Lady Lazarus, and what
purpose it serves as a literary device. Plath s strong use of sarcasm is present in Lady Lazarus
from the very first lines of the poem; Plath writes: I have done it again/One year in every ten/I
manage it (Plath, 1 3). This opening stanzais very tongue in cheek, and through the seemingly
nondescript, nonchalant way she begins the poem, it sets up the first stanza as a foil for the next
stanza, which begins: A sort of walking miracle, my skin/Bright as a Nazi lampshade, (4 5). The
contrast between the content of the first and second stanzas gives the first stanza a very sarcastic
tone. It sets up the concept that death is no big deal to Plath; she s died every ten years. The
opening line, I have done

The Declaration Of Independence And The Second President...
Thomas Jefferson, writer of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United

Jefferson then attended the Second Continental Congress where the Continental Army was created

become more advanced economically and socially. Most of the countries are developing, less
developed or Third World countries. However, the big difference in wealth and economic
development amongst Third countries, the concluding are typically characterised by a low average
per capita income, high external debt (to foreign banks and states in respect of loans acquired), a
strong dependance on agriculture and other primary activities. CONTENT A serious problem
facing LDCs is that they lack the money (sometimes the political will) to invest in business
enhancing enterprises, and to shape up and sustain their physical and transport related
infrastructure. Export and import activity suffers as a result and the countries feel progressively
relegated in the international trade field. A contributing factor to this phenomenon is that more than
50% of the population in LDCs is under the age of 15 and therefore not economically active. Yet
youths still require basic services (health care, education, etc.) for which the government has to foot
the bill. Another restriction to the LDCs getting ahead in the international trade arena is that their
governments are often more concerned about getting special treatment from the wealthier countries
than developing ways to create more sustainable industries and become more competitive. Frequent
political trouble in the LDCs also plays confusion

How Did Humanism Influence Renaissance Art
Humanism is the intellectual movement of the Renaissance based on the study of the humanities,
which include grammar, rhetoric, poetry, moral philosophy, and history. Humanities were very
important during the Renaissance and still are today. As the power of the Catholic Church
decreased, many people turned away from religious morality and focused on studies of the liberal
arts to prepare for life. As a result of this, humanism influenced the whole continent of Europe.
Along with literature, art was a very important part of Renaissance culture. With the expansion of
humanism throughout Europe, art became significantly influenced by this movement throughout
the Renaissance. Artists began to make paintings of human bodies and their realities and dramas.
Two main developments affected the result of artistic works. First, artists utilized the laws of
perspective to organize outdoor space and light through geometry. Second, artists portrayed their
understanding of the development of movement and human anatomy through details in the faces
and bodies of figures in their paintings. Three pieces of Renaissance art exhibit a substantial use of
humanism: the Mona Lisa, School of Athens, and The Tribute Money.
The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci has been renowned as the best known piece of art in the
world. Da Vinci was quite ingenuous, as he was a successful artist, scientist, inventor, and
visionary. He synthesized his background of science with his work in the arts. For example, da

Love In Short Story
Love is a strong emotion experienced by people across all spectrums of life everyday. Love
comes naturally to human nature, whether it be the platonic love of family and friends or the
romantic love of your partner. Historically, the importance of love to all people is evidenced by
the fact that it is a common theme throughout all forms of literature and storytelling. In fairy tale
books, the main characters overcome their own obstacles in the face of true love. This is also true of
several ballads, folklore, fables, and short stories. The short stories The Gift of the Magi by O.

The Perception Of Black Males Essay
Perceptions is what we as individuals understand from the information we are given, what we
think we see and know vs what another sees towards the same object or person. But something
we must always keep in mind is the stigmas we have aren t always true. One controversial miss
perceptions are black lives particularly black males in America. Viewed by a lot of people as
thugs, gang bangers, and crooks, theses harsh and untrue things of what the majority of the
population perceives. A group of individually regularly looked at and put under scrutiny, its
people constantly put under a microscope if near the scene of any crime, or harassed verbally
by authority figure. We must not let our perception of black males cause a divide and allow the
stigmas that are attributed to them to instill fear and cause hatred in our nation. We will
critically analyze speeches by Brent Staples, Coffey Anderson, and Steve Lock particularly at
their views of the perception of black males and their personal experience on handling the
stigmas associated with them. In Brent Staples 1986 publication in recounting his experience as
a black male first in The University of Chicago and then in the streets of New York, he discusses
his thoughts on Americans view of black males. He seems to conforms himself to society in
efforts to seem like less of a society pushed fear of the masses with people fitting his description,
and more of an individual who means no harm to the populous people. Staples mentions

The Legalization Of Marijuana For Marijuana
The legalization of marijuana in America
Overview
Issue
The new events of legalizing marijuana for recreational use has increased controversy in the
United States, those against it say it was bad enough before when it was merely allowed for
medicinal use and now that these new laws and rules are really infuriating those who are against
it. However on the flip side people are also arguing that now that it is allowed for recreational use
people it will lessen crime rates, related to selling and buying drugs, and have a positive effect on
the culture and society.
History
The craze for marijuana started, in America, in the early 1600 s, at a point there was even a law
passed that required every famer to grow marijuana, it was not until the 1900 s that the growing and
usage of cannabis started escalating too quickly and in the 1930 s increase in crime and violence
linked to using marijuana caused 29 states to outlaw the use of marijuana, however in the 50 s to
the 60 s a new hippy culture had started and marijuana, and other drugs, were a large part of the
culture. This caused new laws to be placed, mandatory and stricter sentencing rules and larger
fines. However in the 1970 s there were political changes trying to decriminalize the possession of
the drug for non medical purposes as well as legalizing it for medical purposes. Then during the
1980 s due to large number of protesting parents and campaigns from other parties, the government

Reflective Philosophy In Education
Throughout my education, I had the benefit of attending fifteen different schools in various
locations in the United States. This provided me with the opportunity to experience a variety of
teaching methods and philosophies utilized by educators. Also, my son attended eight different
schools in various states that provided me with additional exposure to various teaching methods. By
using my past experiences along with my current studies, I lean heavily towards an overall
constructivist philosophy, though each of the philosophies commonly referenced has aspects that
are beneficial to students learningalso.
As Dewey, I believe in providing a classroom atmosphere that is democratically focused where
students feel comfortable to communicate and express their opinions while respecting and
listening to others. With this in mind, I plan to provide and facilitate many opportunities for
students to converse and collaborate together while working on projects so students can learn to
appreciate different perspectives. By providing students with a voice in the classroom, students can
also participate in setting the goals and objectives of not only the lessons, but allows them to take
responsibility for their personal learning and growth. Dewey also believed that students learned
best through real life, hands on experiences that have meaning to the learner and previous
experiences can be applied in new ways. Teachers are responsible for providing these opportunities

What Are The Consequences Of The Jim Crow
Separate is NOT Equal: The Effects of Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow laws from the 1930s were about power. Power of one race over another. These laws
really highlight the flaws and weakness of human nature. Although the Jim Crow Laws from the
1930s and the various laws presented today have some of the same impacts, there are still many
differences between the two on black rights. The Jim Crow Laws were a system of laws and
regulations that African Americans were forced to follow between 1877 and the mid 1960s. The
laws were to keep black people separate but equal from white people. This enforced racial
segregation and discrimination towards black people. Later in the 20th century, the Jim Crow
laws were considered a violation of civil rights and therefore unconstitutional . The laws are
named after a nineteenth century minstrel character called Jim Crow, the last name being a
reference to a black bird. Thus, a law having to do with blacks was known as a Jim Crow law. The
name Jim Crow on the other hand comes from a minstrel character which was played by the
white actor who went by the stage name Daddy Rice . Daddy Rice wore blackface make up and put
on a show filled with music, singing, and jokes which all degraded black people. The white
audiences loved these performances, therefore, making them very popular. Harper Lee, the author
of To Kill a Mockingbird, published the book in 1959, only a few years before the Jim Crow laws
officially ended. Many people

farmers.

For along as humans have kept a written history there have been stories about extraordinary
occurrences: telepathic dreams in which the dreamer appears to receive the thoughts of another
person or clairvoyant dreams in which the dreamer seemed to be able to observe far away events.
Telepathic and clairvoyant dreams, along with precognitionand psychokinesis, have been group

interactions that occur between organisms and their environment (this includes other organisms) in
which information or influence is exchanged that has not been able to be explained by through

The Louisiana Science Education Act Essay
In the United States, evolution and creationism remain a controversial issue as far as which
method should stay in science classes across the globe. How was the earth created? How were
humans created? These are questions that arise in most science classes. Many students require an
explanation of why people exist. There are those who would oppose evolution, and there are those
who oppose creationism. Is there a significant difference between these methods? Several states
have passed regulations that allow schools to teach both evolution and creationism. The Louisiana
Science Education Act, in particular, is a highly controversial debate. The act allows teachers to
teach adscititious materials in the classroom. Many opponents are looking to repeal this law. The
Louisiana Science Education Act should not be repealed as it allows the student to engage in
critical thinking skills, acknowledge both theories and ultimately decide which theory they believe.
Looking back at our history creationism was the first explanation of why humans exist today. Since
the beginning of time Christianity has played a significant role in religion. Christianity started in
Jerusalem and expanded into many different denominations across the world. Therefore,
Christianity is a religion based off of Jesus Christ and God the creator of the earth. Creationism

Analysis Of The Book Diary Of A Madman
Lu Xun was one of the first prominent writers of modern china. He uses an ironic technique in
the preface by writing in classical Chinese language to suggest a false, friendly world made
exclusively by social appearances. The traditional Chinese text is typically seen as superior, and
as per the Chinese traditions the modern language is seen as an intruder. The author s use of the
style was a way of making a point. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and
was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). The story demonstrates his discontent
with traditional Chinese culture, not only by the fact that it clearly addresses the horror of
cannibalism that is believed to have occurred but he is also trying to point out the oppressive
nature of Confucian principles. In the short novel, the madman has the ability to recognize the
cruel elements of Chinese Confucian culture that serves to mock established but out dated
traditional scholarship. In the story Diary of a Madman, the protagonist of the diary talks about
his how he thinks other people perceive him. He sees that the individuals are giving him abnormal
looks; as though they were attempting to scare him or as though he had perpetrated some serious
crime. When I made my way out the front gate this morning ever so carefully there was something

Dry Pasta

do not know what the actual history of pasta is. Furthermore, I will also explain the benefits of

cooking pasta.
Pasta is an Italian food made from dough using flour, water and eggs. When talking about the

made of flour and water and is present in most cultures and on all continents. Dry pasta began in

Pasta has evolved, over its history, into a great number of shapes and varieties. The names of some
of the shapes vary according to area, and sometimes the same name applies in different areas to
different shapes.
A few examples include: Spaghetti is long, thin, cylindrical pasta of Italian origin. Macaroni is a
kind of moderately extended, machine made dry pasta. Much shorter than spaghetti, and hollow,
macaroni does not contain eggs. Fusilli, a spiral shaped pasta, also called corkscrew pasta, is
usually about four centimeters long. Fusilli is almost identical to another shaped pasta called
rotini. They both have a spiral shape, but rotini is slightly larger, thicker and curlier. Lasanum is a
form of pasta in sheets, made with alternate layers of pasta, cheese, and meat sauce or tomato sauce.
When making delicious pasta dishes, be sure to choose a pasta shape and sauce that complement
each other.
For example, delicate pasta like angel hair or thin spaghetti should be served with light, thin
sauces. Thicker pasta shapes, like fettuccine, work well with heavier sauces. Pasta shapes with
holes or ridges like mostaccioli or radiatore are perfect for chunkier sauces.
Pasta, by itself, is a nutritious food, an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, an important
contributor of protein, B vitamins, and iron. It contains almost no fat, cholesterol, or sodium good

Type I Taste Biochemistry
Abstract
There are complex molecular mechanisms involved in the sensation of taste, also known as
gustation. They are specific to the five differing taste qualities. Taste transduction involves taste
cells of varying structure and function. These taste cells comprise of type I glial like cells, type II
receptor cells, and type III pre synaptic cells. Through different mechanisms, the taste receptor cells
detect a respective ligand of sweet, bitter, umami, sour, and salty tastes. It has been suggested that
type I cells are involved in detection and transduction of salt through an ion channel. Type II cells
operate through G protein coupled receptors that belong to the T1R and T2R families. Neuron
synapses and ion channels aide in the performance of type III cells. Gustatory receptors play an
essential role in the detection and perception of tastes within the oral ... Show more content on

However, recent evidence suggests an additional ability of detecting salts through ion channels.
Receptor type II cells detect bitter, sweet and umami tastes. They express G protein coupled
receptors (GPCRs) that are associated with gustducin, the G protein (4). GPCRs are capable of
acting through varying second messenger systems to relay a signal to the interior of the cell. This
signaling produces increased intracellular calcium concentrations. Increases in calcium initiate ATP
release, thus triggering primary gustatory neurons in close proximity to type II cells. Type III taste
cells transduce sour and salty tastes through ion channels (5). Increases in Na+ concentrations for
salt tastes and increases in H+ concentration for sour tastes depolarize taste cells, releasing a
neurotransmitter, for instance serotonin (5). The neurotransmitters released from the cells, such as
ATP or serotonin, activate primary gustatory neurons. Signals are then carried by the axons of
primary gustatory neurons for processing to the gustatory

I Love Lucy Pros And Cons
According to Mitchell Stephens at NYU, the first electronic television was invented in 1927. In its
infancy, television was, in the most basic sense, radio with moving pictures. However, during the
Golden Age of television, around the mid to late 1950s, it become a mass medium (Stephens).
During this time, televisionwas the easiest way to shape public opinion, and politicians, advertisers,
and producers took advantage of this.
Perhaps one of the most popular programs in its time, and certainly still beloved to this day, is I
Love Lucy. The sitcom follows the lives of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, as well as their landlords
who double as good friends Fred and Ethel Mertz. The four friends are close close enough for the
Mertzes to move all the way to California when the Ricardos did. I Love Lucy ran from 1951 to
1957 on primetime television, receiving steady ratings throughout its six seasons.
A more recent, wildly popular television show is Friends, which tells the story of Rachel, Phoebe,
Monica, Chandler, Joey and Ross six best friends all in their twenties as they live out their lives in
Manhattan in the years surrounding the turn of the century. The gang meets at their favorite local
coffee shop at least twice an episode, and half of the group currently lives together. Friends ran

Management Theories In Classroom Management
2.4 Behaviour management theories While classroom management theory is constantly evolving.
There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of
the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix.
Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods
and make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1
The Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students
positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform
students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students,
they will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be
entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any
interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher
always reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules
persistently, then he or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving
10 minute time out in isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the
student s parents and finally, sending the student to the principal s office. However, this approach is
not practicable for the teenagers. Because

be thinking this before you thought it? There is one thing left to do; you need to finish your
journey. The lights become streams of fire in your vision, and your arms pump with increasing

U.s. Foreign Policy Of Containment
George Kennan George Kennan was a major factor in the U.S. foreign policy of containment, which
was created during the Cold War in order to prevent the spread of Communist ideology of the Soviet
Union in other countries. After World War II, George Kennan, ...a career diplomat and expert on
Russia... (Roark, Pg.867), had anticipated that the Soviet Union wanted to gain power and expand
Communism throughout other countries, so in order to provide a counterforce and protect
American capitalism, Kennan developed the idea of containment that defended threaten countries
from Communist power with American atomic weapons, economic aid, espionage, propaganda, and
army alliances. Eventually, the containment policy was significant in America and around the
world because it was ...a critical turning point in the development of the Cold War, providing a
compelling rationale for wielding U.S. power throughout the world. (Roark, Pg.870) (Roark,
Pg.867) Keynesian Economics Keynesian economics, derived from the ideology of John Maynard
Keynes , was a strategy used during post World War II that would prevent economic decline in the
United States by incorporating government spending. Keynesian economics would work by using
...deficit spending to stimulate the economy when in the down cycle and increased taxes to retire
the debt during the upswing. (Lecture A, Week 5). Some government spending programs that
reflected the idea of Keynesian economics in America included The Employment

The Truth Is Out There Analysis
In the recent scenario, it seems like the earth is very small as we got connected to every part of
the world. Mars and the moon have become our regular visits and it seems that mankind may step
on Mars in this century. In the age, if advanced technology, Humans have covered trillions of miles
in the universe through high tech telescopes, so it is more likely that humans may find
extraterrestrial lifebefore they come finding humans. Astrophysicists and alien astronomers have
been trying to locate the existence of extraterrestrials for decades by the use of technology like
radio communication and through telescopes because astrophysicists and alien astronomers are
trying to find a possibility of life beyond earth. The article The $100 Million Hunt for Alien Life is
written by Mark Adams, who is the writer and editor whose work has appeared in GQ and New

reports of UFO began to stream in. But the fact was that it was the supersonic aircraft s like A

mysterious sounds and lights in the sky, which made people believe in a UFO. The aircraft s
shown in the article make me believe that these aircraft might be used as space shuttles to explore
new extraterrestrial life. The technology used in these aircraft makes many alien astronomers
believe that human can find extraterrestrial life through this type of aircraft. It clearly shows the

The person I am going to analyse in this assignment is Aileen Lee Carol Wuornos who was
considered to be the first American female serial killer (Anon., 2015). Wuornos was born on
February 29th 1956 in Rochester Michigan (Anon., 2015). Her father, Leo Dale Pittman was an
alleged child molester and her mother Diane Wuornos was a teen mother who was not capable
of taking up the responsibilities that came about with being a mother (Anon., 2015). Wuornos
mother abandoned both her and her brother when they were young leaving them in the care of
their grandparents (Anon., 2015). Her grandmother was an alcoholic whereas her grandfather
abused her both physically and sexually (Anon., 2015). At the young age of eleven, Aileen
Wuornos began trading sexual favours for money, beer and even cigarettes (Anon., 2015). This
also allowed her to be able to be part of cliques and have a sense of belonging. On March 1971,
when she was fourteen she gave birth to her only child whom she gave up for adoption (Anon.,
2015). At that same time, her grandmother died of liver failure which led to her grandfather
kicking her out of the house (Anon., 2015). She was made wards of the court before she ran

the immensity of the job an editor is given. The reasoning of the film is to show the impact editing
truly has on movies and our emotional attachment towards them. This documentary shows clips

The Future Is Green Architecture
Architecture is vital function for all parts of society. Without architects people would have to
rethink how they enter buildings, fearing roofs caving in or structural beams giving out. The
rigor of an architect s training leaves these possibilities and worries an unlikely prospect, not
considered in the day to day in a person s events. Architects make both functional and beautiful
structures that are appealing to the eye, as well as useful to the world. The world wouldn t be
able to live in functional cities without the qualities of the architect s skills. The world would
have to worry about a door frame falling on their heads as they walk through the door for their
daily workday, into the building that houses their jobs, their pay based on the efficiencies of the
buildings layouts. Hopefully a person office is the one in the corner with the view, built to capture
the sights outside the window and the prestige of the position, all thought of and created by an
architect. Architects have an extremely specialized task to perform. They have to make sure that a
building is stable in all conditions and useful and also that it looks appealing to senses, capturing
the light at dawn, changing with the light at dusk. Architects do great things and create even
greater things, often unnoticed, but worthy of mention. Architects also have very fun creative jobs
where they can go to a rigorous job and make sure everything is going as planned and the building
will meet the needs

Don t Not Wear A Helmet
Motorcycles are probably some of the coolest things in the world to eight year old kids. I was
lucky enough to grow up around motorcycles, and some of the kindest people I have ever met;
bikers. My dad and his best friend, Ken, had ridden motorcycles together since their junior year
of high school. They both saved up all the money they had earned from bailing hay to buy their
motorcycles. Being reckless, as most teenage boys are, they developed the bad habit of not
wearing helmets while riding. In 2008, Ken s life was cut short after a fatal motorcycleaccident. He
was on his way home from work when a woman in a large suburban switched lanes and did not see
him on his motorcycle. Ken swerved in an attempt to get out the woman s way, but... Show more

Why is wearing a seat belt a requirement and wearing a motorcycle helmet is not? In the State of
Texas Motorcycle Operators Handbook, it states that a motorcycle accident is more likely to be a
critical if the motorist is not wear a helmet. Without a helmet, you are five times more likely to
sustain a critical head injury in a crash. (Texas Dept. of Public Safety) Both safety devices keep
motorists safe and could potentially save lives. Motorcycles are much more dangerous than cars
because the whole body is exposed. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety s
article, Motorcycle Helmet Exemptions , the state of Texas has a law in place that requires
riders younger than 21 years old to wear a helmet. Riders older than 21 years of age are exempt
from wearing a helmet if they have completed a Motorcycle operations course or if they are
covered by medical insurance ( Motorcycle Helmet Exemptions ). I think there should be a law
in place in Texas requiring all motorcyclists to wear helmets at all times. My dad has ridden a
motorcycle since before I was born. He is very passionate about this particular hobby. As a
teenager, he developed a hatred for motorcycle helmets due to how uncomfortable and heavy they
are. He has handed me, excuse after excuse for why he doesn t want to wear the potentially
lifesaving device. After the devastating loss of his best friend, he still chooses not to wear a
helmet. My dad uses the excuses that

Southern Ocean Sanctuary
In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and
overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation
of vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of
these concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals
that are becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood
around the availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater
the variety of abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential
opportunity, opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that
increase the sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse
of biological resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While
species extinction is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is
not. In the past 65 million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year
to roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). This is no longer a matter of
natural selection; this is a matter of ineffective resource regulation worldwide. Despite extensive
amounts of environmental legislation actively in place, specie scarcity will continue to grow. The
greatest challenge now

Analysis Of Cushing s Syndrome And Its Effects On The Body
Cushing s syndrome is a rare endocrine disorder that occurs when your body is exposed to an
overabundance of the hormone cortisol.3 Cortisol is known as the stress hormone. The interruption
of cortisol secretion can cause weight gain and can ultimately determine where you put the weight
on.8 There are many underlying causes such as Pituitary Adenomas, Ectopic ACTH Syndrome,
Adrenal Tumors, and Familial Cushing s Syndrome.2 The majority of these people affected by this
hormonal disorder experience weak muscles, increase fat, high blood pressure, etc.1 Although
thousands are affected in various ways, there are currently several channels of treatment
administered by medical professionals. Through the use of improving technology, medical
professionals are better understanding the disorder, allowing them to develop better treatment
practices.
Cortisol plays a major role in the development of this disorder. It is secreted by the adrenal gland,
located above the kidneys, in a precise sequence of events. The hypothalamus directs corticotropin
releasing hormone(CRH) to the pituitary gland.1 CRH causes the pituitary to release
adrenocorticotropin hormone(ACTH) activate the adrenal glands.1 The adrenal glands pick up the
ACTH, they reciprocate by releasing cortisol in the bloodstream.1 Cortisol helps with quite a few of
your body functions. Some of these functions are stress response, balancing the effects of insulin,
reducing the immune system s inflammatory response, regulating

Philips As A Multinational Companies In The Philips
To become a leading consumer electronics company in the post war era, Philips implemented the
strategy of a multinational company from early on, and also benefited from proficient leaders,
Gerard and Anton. Philips managed to gain successes through becoming a multinational enterprise,
evident through various characteristics of a multinational enterprise. Other strategies included a
decentralised organisational system, and their technical and innovative capability. When Philips
first began their business in 1892, their only product was the light bulb. Instead of diversifying,
Philips main focus lay only with the light bulb and as a result, were able to specialise and create
significant innovations in this department. As their products began to gain success and a strong
reputation, sales increased dramatically and Philips research and development sector continued to
grow. In fact, Philips became a leader in industrial research, an attribute that would continue to
benefit them as the company continued its global leadership in the post war era. It was evident that
Philips was aware of the importance of globalising their company in the post war era, coupled with
the small domestic market, and in 1912, the company began to internationalise, resulting in
becoming a multinational enterprise. Some of the main features that suggest this is that they had
multiple operating environments, global competitive game, and organisational complexity and
diversity. Before the anticipated

The Rise Of The Roman Empire Essay
Constantine was the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. He started his reign in 307
AD. During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the
population of Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up
only 10 percent of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million
Christians in the Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His
conversion was an important turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman
Empire as a whole. Although most Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine
decided to become a Christian because he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as
emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman
Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The story of Constantine s conversion
was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story is skewed by his bias. In order to
show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his account to the account of another
historian named Andreas AlfoМ€ldi. The comparison will show that Constantine had other motives
for converting to Christianity. Constantine s decision to become a Christian was influenced by
numerous external factors. He emulated the monotheistic nature of Christianity and used it as the
foundation of his reign and used Christianity to advance his political agenda. When

Research Articles On Plant Patents
Research articles can be quite complex and adding patents to the mix seems to make the
comprehensive level even more challenging. In this paper lies three parts commonly seen within a
research article and explains how each of them are connected and deemed vital for approval of a
plant patent. The three parts are the methods done in the experiment, the results from the
experiment, and the textual features that make the article more credible and organized. This paper
will go on to talk about a couple of instances that can occur as well when dealing with plant patents
and the researchbehind them. Once this has been read, perhaps those who want to do research can
learn how research articles and plant patents have an outstanding correlation... Show more content

There are genre agents which are structural elements of a document or communicative situation
that exert agency within a context that includes player agents (Moeller). For example excerpts
or results taken from the research article can be used in a scientific article or to make textbooks
seem more up to date by giving new information that is popularly being studied. Now onto to the
three parts shortly discussed earlier. The first part of the research article that connects back to
plant patents are the methods section. This is where the player agents such as the researchers get
involved in order to make sense of the whole process. Methods are a great way for other player
agents such as competing researchers or patent reviewer to follow the procedures. It also helps
other scientists who are interested in the study to see if the experiment actually works. A play
scenario could be where research is done to create the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. This
plant was created in order to possibly reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which was done
first by Liang and his colleagues. Liang had gathered information on Arabidopsis thaliana ecotypes
Columbia were [to use] in this study (Liang). Their methods describe how the model plant was
created and how they were able to analyze the plant for this use. Without this section others would
have no knowledge of how this plant was created. Thus without these methods described in all of
the patent applications

  • 2. Angels In America Play Analysis The play made me feel several emotions. For the most part, I sympathized with the majority of the characters. I especially felt an emotional attachment to Prior and Harper. Both of these characters needed to be taken care of, but they were ultimately abandoned. Harper seems confident that she will be fine on her own, but the thought of her being alone still saddens me. I was also happy to read a play that dealt with Mormonism. I grew up as a Mormon and I am interested when a piece of work addresses that particular form of Christianity. Mormonism is not addressed in theatre and entertainment very often, so I found that particular element of the play interesting. It is clear that AIDSis an important subject in Angels in America: Millennium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Combined passenger volume could justify its geographical markets The company s total capacity increased to 22.4 billion (1.3%) available seats. Paired with the decline in passenger traffic, load factors fell to 80.4 percent compared to 81.6 percent a year ago. The dip in passenger traffic was American s first year over year decrease in 2016. Tuesday s announcement comes after the company reported a $700 million first quarter profit last month, lower than last year s first quarter profits of $932 million but still enough to beat analyst estimates. In its filing, American said it expects its passenger revenue per available seat mile, a measure of passenger unit revenue, to be down 6 to 8 percent year over year in the second quarter of 2016. • 4. The Drinking Age Should Be Lowered Essay There are numerous problems involving alcohol in the world today, including alcoholism, drunk driving, and alcohol poisoning leading to death. Many of these problems involve minors and are linked to drinking underage. The legal drinking age in many states is twenty one years old. The purpose of this law is to keep minors out of danger: away from drunk driving, alcohol poisoning, and injuring the brain before it is fully developed. The government supports the belief that people are not ready or responsible enough for alcohol until this age. However, various professors and researchers are discovering ways to disprove this belief. These people think that reducing the drinking age to eighteen would influence our country in a positive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCardell suggests it is time to rethink the drinking age in the United States (McCardell, 2012). First of all, why are eighteen year olds considered minors only when it comes to drinking? After all, they are legally permitted to drive, get married, smoke cigarettes, and even to join the army. If they can make the choice to do these things, are they not capable of making the choice to drink? The drinking age in America has changed multiple times throughout our history. In fact, there were no such things as mandates on drinking until 1851, when Maine passed the law on prohibition. Soon after, many other states followed in their footsteps. Congress first pressed the issue on the whole country in 1917, and the law was ratified two years later. In 1920, the government created the 18th Amendment, which officially banned everyone from the production, distribution, and consumption of alcohol. Throughout this entire time period, the demand for alcohol continued to thrive, leading to flourishing acts of bootlegging (Rotunda, 2004). It took years for the government to give up on this law, but it did finally happen. In the 1970 s, the government created a legal drinking age: eighteen years. This law worked pretty well for the country still consisted of flaws, but nothing more than what we have today. Not until the National Minimum Drinking Age Actof 1984 did this change. With the passage of this act, individual states had the option of keeping the age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hospice Is A Good Option For Them If a patient does not have the ability to exercise the right to die, hospice is a really good option for them to control the pain and pass peacefully. Hospice care is specialized care designed to provide support to a person and their loved ones during an advanced illness, it focuses on comfort and quality of life rather than a cure. (Hospice, 2015) Hospice is really the only option for people who live in states that do not support the right to die; it strives to give the patient the highest possible quality of life and make them comfortable, so they can live their final days to the fullest. Hospice is offered in the home, in long term care facilities, and hospice will do about anything to keep the patient comfortable. They help prepare their patients and their families for the approaching death, and they offer bereavement services to the family after the death for up to three months. Hospice is a great resource for people who are ready to stop fighting and be comfortable, but it still does not provide the freedom that the right to die laws can, like allowing people to make their own choices about their life. Right to die laws are state mandated in only four states: Oregon, California, Washington, and Vermont. State mandated means that if a person meets the requirements to exercise their right to die, and he can find a physician that will write their prescription, he is free to do as he pleases. In Montana, right to die is mandated by court ruling, which means you must go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Laura s Identity 2.Laura and the workers The workers are significant in their role as they represent an artificial image of lower class people. Furthermore, Laura is also influenced by her upbringing which conveyed a specific impression of working class people. The workers in the garden exist within the Sheridan s domain, an upper class establishment, which marks them as non threatening to the established hierarchies between the social classes. They are an artificial representation of lower class workers, but they are also the people who mark the change in Laura s class perception and the initial awareness of social differences. Sheridan s most notable feature is her constant consideration of the family s reputation and the success of the garden party. Roazen argues that people like Mrs. Sheridan lack an individual character and attempt to imitate others as they cannot subsist on their shadow personality (Roazen ???). Therefore Mrs. Sheridan defines herself and her family through their higher position in the societal hierarchy (Kaya 57). It is substantial to note that Mrs. Sheridan begins to initiate Laura into the rites of an upper class women and conveys the social morals and values (Kaya 56) by giving her the task to oversee the workers (336). This process is continued when Mrs. Sheridan instructs a man on where to place the lilies and asks Laura if she agrees (340). • 7. Why Are Wildfires Important To Society Have you ever stopped to wonder if wildfires truly important to society? Well after doing some research, wildfires play an important role in the natural adaptations that occur in the Earth s ecosystem. On the NASA Earth Observatory: Global Fire Monitoring website states that The diversity of plant and animal life in the world s forest, prairies, and wetlands in (partly) dependent on the effects of fire; in fact some plants can not reproduce without fire . The reason why some plants are dependent on wildfires is because the fire breaks open the outer layer of the seeds and invigorate germination. Fires begin vital natural process for nutrients. Rain then passes the nutrients back into the soil restoring fertile seedbed for plants. Wildfires impact on the ecosystem, plays a major part in forming the ecosystems by serving as an agent of restoration and change. My classroom experience was rather interesting, the education department there wanted us to experience multiple teachers in one day, group projects, and most importantly the staff wanted to see students mold their own learning experiences. My initial learning process from Mississippi did not stop me from quickly adjusting and enjoying school every single day. My home life at the time matched the same excitement as school. I was going to be a big brother. Months passed since the move to Baltimore and I experienced so much in so little time. I forgot the place I once called home. I longed to be apart of the utopia I intruded into. My mother and her fiance had some tension and decided to move back to their home states. Mississippi felt like a vague dream. Nothing was comprehensible. I was an observer again. Second grade felt like a chore to complete. The feeling of disconnect was embodied by the fear of social interaction. Femoral artery is the most common access site used for PCI because of its size and its direct passageway to the heart (Young, 2014 p.431; Cosman, Arthur, Bryant Lukosius, Strachan, 2015 p.180). In this procedure, a cardiac catheter followed by a stent is inserted to the arteryto dilate the occluded bloodvessel and improve blood flow (Young, 2014 p.430). This led to the understanding that because angioplasty is an invasive procedure it is vital to perform a thorough assessment on the wound site to check for signs of bleeding and infection. As cited by Benbow (2016 para.1) in her article, an accurate wound assessment would yield to the delivery of effective nursing management and prevention of impending health issues. Moreover, she also mentioned in her paper that comorbidities such as diabetes, smoking, and ageing would slow down the healing process (para.4). These comorbidities are well presented in Mr. Bright s history. This study is further augmented by an evaluation research headed by Greatrex White and Moxley (2013 p.295 296) wherein they enumerated a criteria necessary for wound assessment. In their research, the wound assessmet tool comprises of the following: details and characteristics, wound measurement using, tissue type, exudate, pain, signs of infection, and surrounding skin. Furthermore, since hematoma formation, a benchmark of wound assessment tends to occur after patient is discharged, educating him and his significant other how to measure his hematoma is significant. At the time he was writing, the nineteen thirties, a great depression was plaguing the United States. Many people were out of work. Many farmers were losing their farms and homes. An extreme drought had also wrecked the farms of the Midwest and made them into what is now referred to as the dust bowl . It was a terrible time to be poor, and most were. By Ruqayyah Haq I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first exposed to these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents (Dr A.F. Joseph) who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him. Her interest grew and she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes with the boys at school. Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University of Oxford and after she went on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin evidently academically excelled in science it was when she attended a special course in crystallography (a combination of maths, physics and chemistry) where she was inspired to continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical science of x ray. In order to do this she moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her independent research career in 1934. Mental illness can contribute to high crime rates, suicide, drug addiction, mass shootings, prison overcrowding, and several other problems. This paper will discuss and examine mental health issues as it develops and result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the United States Military, and specifically how PTSD can result in suicide among military service members. PTSD is commonly and well known to infantry soldiers who were mostly deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq war between 2001 and 2003 due to an overwhelming and challenging environment. The war in Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq conflicts, both have had a an actual impact on soldiers mental health. In addition, infantrymen are most likely to experience at least one event as a minimum that may result in PTSD than any other divisions in the military. According to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Major Gary Wynn provides statistics shows that 93 percent report coming under fire from artillery, rockets, and mortars. 91 percent say their unit has been attacked or ambushed. 87 percent say they know someone who has been seriously injured or killed (Robson 2012).... During a period roughly from the end of the Second World War to the early 1990s, neither epidemiology, medical geography, nor medical sociology tended directly to study the impact of the local social or physical environment on human health, according to Perspectives in Medical Sociology (Brown 2008). PTSD was accepted everywhere when it was introduced as a diagnosis in the early 1980s in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM III) of the American Psychiatric Association. Although PTSD diagnosis met largely with skepticism by the public of the validity of the illness when first came out. Blair Wheaton and Shirin Montazer provided a detailed definition of Traumatic Stress in their chapter of Stressors, Stress, and Distress by stating, some stressors are thought to be so serious and so overwhelming in their impact that we must give them a separate status to distinguish them from the usual class of events that we designate as stressful. The most applicable term for these stressors is traumas (Wheaton Montazer 2010). In other words, PTSD is a complex mental disorder that develops in response to exposure to a severe traumatic event that stems a cluster of symptoms. Being afflicted with the disorder is debilitating and disrupt an individual s ability to function and perform the basic tasks. PTSD affects 3.5 percent of the U.S. adult population and approximately about 7 million Americans. These issues hurt Best Buy s expansion into China and, by 2011, Best Buy closed all of its stores in China and in December 2014, they announced its decision to sell its Five Star stores to Jiayuan, (Bailey, 2015). Where Best Buy focused on marketing and customer services to differentiate their store from others, their competitors understood that the Chinese consumer was more concerned with products and good deals on prices. Since a global strategy requires lots of centralization, this slowed down Corporate s responsive times to adjust to China s local market. I believe Best Buy s performance could have been better had they entered the Chinese market differently. • 18. How Does Sylvia Plath Use Humor Death is Funny: Sylvia Plath s Use of Humor in Lady Lazarus Humor and Sylvia Plath are words not generally heard in the same sentence. Although her poetry is widely read, we as a society tend to associate her writing with the inherent darkness in her words, and we tend to ignore everything else, particularly with regards to the poetryshe wrote near the end of her life. The morbidity in her writing is most definitely there, but it is often expressed using humor. I will be examining Plath s poem Lady Lazarus, and in particular the way that Plath uses humor throughout the poem through her use of sarcasm, hyperbole and absurd comparisons, rhyme, and circus imagery. I will also be looking at the possible reasons why Plath uses humor throughout Lady Lazarus, and what purpose it serves as a literary device. Plath s strong use of sarcasm is present in Lady Lazarus from the very first lines of the poem; Plath writes: I have done it again/One year in every ten/I manage it (Plath, 1 3). This opening stanzais very tongue in cheek, and through the seemingly nondescript, nonchalant way she begins the poem, it sets up the first stanza as a foil for the next stanza, which begins: A sort of walking miracle, my skin/Bright as a Nazi lampshade, (4 5). The contrast between the content of the first and second stanzas gives the first stanza a very sarcastic tone. It sets up the concept that death is no big deal to Plath; she s died every ten years. How Did Humanism Influence Renaissance Art Humanism is the intellectual movement of the Renaissance based on the study of the humanities, which include grammar, rhetoric, poetry, moral philosophy, and history. Humanities were very important during the Renaissance and still are today. As the power of the Catholic Church decreased, many people turned away from religious morality and focused on studies of the liberal arts to prepare for life. As a result of this, humanism influenced the whole continent of Europe. Along with literature, art was a very important part of Renaissance culture. With the expansion of humanism throughout Europe, art became significantly influenced by this movement throughout the Renaissance. Artists began to make paintings of human bodies and their realities and dramas. Two main developments affected the result of artistic works. First, artists utilized the laws of perspective to organize outdoor space and light through geometry. Second, artists portrayed their understanding of the development of movement and human anatomy through details in the faces and bodies of figures in their paintings. These laws really highlight the flaws and weakness of human nature. Although the Jim Crow Laws from the 1930s and the various laws presented today have some of the same impacts, there are still many differences between the two on black rights. The Jim Crow Laws were a system of laws and regulations that African Americans were forced to follow between 1877 and the mid 1960s. The laws were to keep black people separate but equal from white people. This enforced racial segregation and discrimination towards black people. Later in the 20th century, the Jim Crow laws were considered a violation of civil rights and therefore unconstitutional . The laws are named after a nineteenth century minstrel character called Jim Crow, the last name being a reference to a black bird. Thus, a law having to do with blacks was known as a Jim Crow law. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). Furthermore, I will also explain the benefits of pasta, pastashapes, recommendation of sauces for different types of pasta, and the basic way of cooking pasta. Pasta is an Italian food made from dough using flour, water and eggs. When talking about the origin of pasta, a distinction needs to be made between fresh and dry pasta. Fresh pasta is dough made of flour and water and is present in most cultures and on all continents. Dry pasta began in Italy and embarked from there to conquer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pasta has evolved, over its history, into a great number of shapes and varieties. The names of some of the shapes vary according to area, and sometimes the same name applies in different areas to different shapes. A few examples include: Spaghetti is long, thin, cylindrical pasta of Italian origin. Macaroni is a kind of moderately extended, machine made dry pasta. Much shorter than spaghetti, and hollow, macaroni does not contain eggs. Fusilli, a spiral shaped pasta, also called corkscrew pasta, is usually about four centimeters long. Fusilli is almost identical to another shaped pasta called rotini. They both have a spiral shape, but rotini is slightly larger, thicker and curlier. Lasanum is a form of pasta in sheets, made with alternate layers of pasta, cheese, and meat sauce or tomato sauce. When making delicious pasta dishes, be sure to choose a pasta shape and sauce that complement each other. For example, delicate pasta like angel hair or thin spaghetti should be served with light, thin sauces. Thicker pasta shapes, like fettuccine, work well with heavier sauces. Pasta shapes with holes or ridges like mostaccioli or radiatore are perfect for chunkier sauces. Pasta, by itself, is a nutritious food, an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, an important contributor of protein, B vitamins, and iron. It contains almost no fat, cholesterol, or sodium good nutrition in just 210 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Type I Taste Biochemistry Abstract There are complex molecular mechanisms involved in the sensation of taste, also known as gustation. They are specific to the five differing taste qualities. Taste transduction involves taste cells of varying structure and function. These taste cells comprise of type I glial like cells, type II receptor cells, and type III pre synaptic cells. Through different mechanisms, the taste receptor cells detect a respective ligand of sweet, bitter, umami, sour, and salty tastes. It has been suggested that type I cells are involved in detection and transduction of salt through an ion channel. Type II cells operate through G protein coupled receptors that belong to the T1R and T2R families. Neuron synapses and ion channels aide in the performance of type III cells. Gustatory receptors play an essential role in the detection and perception of tastes within the oral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, recent evidence suggests an additional ability of detecting salts through ion channels. Receptor type II cells detect bitter, sweet and umami tastes. They express G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are associated with gustducin, the G protein (4). GPCRs are capable of acting through varying second messenger systems to relay a signal to the interior of the cell. This signaling produces increased intracellular calcium concentrations. Increases in calcium initiate ATP release, thus triggering primary gustatory neurons in close proximity to type II cells. Type III taste cells transduce sour and salty tastes through ion channels (5). Increases in Na+ concentrations for salt tastes and increases in H+ concentration for sour tastes depolarize taste cells, releasing a neurotransmitter, for instance serotonin (5). The neurotransmitters released from the cells, such as ATP or serotonin, activate primary gustatory neurons. Signals are then carried by the axons of primary gustatory neurons for processing to the gustatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. I Love Lucy Pros And Cons According to Mitchell Stephens at NYU, the first electronic television was invented in 1927. In its infancy, television was, in the most basic sense, radio with moving pictures. However, during the Golden Age of television, around the mid to late 1950s, it become a mass medium (Stephens). During this time, televisionwas the easiest way to shape public opinion, and politicians, advertisers, and producers took advantage of this. Perhaps one of the most popular programs in its time, and certainly still beloved to this day, is I Love Lucy. The sitcom follows the lives of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, as well as their landlords who double as good friends Fred and Ethel Mertz. The four friends are close close enough for the Mertzes to move all the way to California when the Ricardos did. I Love Lucy ran from 1951 to 1957 on primetime television, receiving steady ratings throughout its six seasons. A more recent, wildly popular television show is Friends, which tells the story of Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Ross six best friends all in their twenties as they live out their lives in Manhattan in the years surrounding the turn of the century. The gang meets at their favorite local coffee shop at least twice an episode, and half of the group currently lives together. • 39. Management Theories In Classroom Management 2.4 Behaviour management theories While classroom management theory is constantly evolving. There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix. Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods and make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1 The Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students, they will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher always reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules persistently, then he or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving 10 minute time out in isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the student s parents and finally, sending the student to the principal s office. However, this approach is not practicable for the teenagers. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Southern Ocean Sanctuary In an ever expanding world where resource scarcity is discussed in side conversations and overpopulation is being combatted by concerned nations, worldwide struggle of equal allocation of vital resources persist. Biological resources and biodiversity in general are at the forefront of these concerns. Decreasing biodiversity does not just pose a problem for the plants and animals that are becoming increasingly endangered; individuals who have constructed their livelihood around the availability of such resources face dire circumstances as scarcity arises. The greater the variety of abundant plant and animal species present in the world, the greater the potential opportunity, opportunities such as medical discoveries and newfound scientific knowledge that increase the sustainability of life on Earth. However, tragedy of the commons, has led to overuse of biological resources across the globe, throwing the issue of sustainability into question. While species extinction is a natural process in the world ecosystem, the rate at which it has increased is not. In the past 65 million years the rate of extinction has gone from one to five species per year to roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times that rate (Diversity, 2013, pg. 1). The interruption of cortisol secretion can cause weight gain and can ultimately determine where you put the weight on.8 There are many underlying causes such as Pituitary Adenomas, Ectopic ACTH Syndrome, Adrenal Tumors, and Familial Cushing s Syndrome.2 The majority of these people affected by this hormonal disorder experience weak muscles, increase fat, high blood pressure, etc.1 Although thousands are affected in various ways, there are currently several channels of treatment administered by medical professionals. Through the use of improving technology, medical professionals are better understanding the disorder, allowing them to develop better treatment practices. Cortisol plays a major role in the development of this disorder. It is secreted by the adrenal gland, located above the kidneys, in a precise sequence of events. The hypothalamus directs corticotropin releasing hormone(CRH) to the pituitary gland.1 CRH causes the pituitary to release adrenocorticotropin hormone(ACTH) activate the adrenal glands.1 The adrenal glands pick up the ACTH, they reciprocate by releasing cortisol in the bloodstream.1 Cortisol helps with quite a few of your body functions. During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the population of Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up only 10 percent of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million Christians in the Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His conversion was an important turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman Empire as a whole. Although most Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine decided to become a Christian because he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The story of Constantine s conversion was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story is skewed by his bias. In order to show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his account to the account of another historian named Andreas AlfoМ€ldi.
