The Spectrophotometer Determination Of Protein Concentrations And The Effects Sodium
Dodecyl Sulphate And Triton X 100 Have On Protein Concentration.
INTRODUCTION
Spectroscopy is used as a collective term for all the analytical techniques based on the interaction of
light and matter. Spectrophotometry is one of the branches of spectroscopy where we measure the
absorption of light by molecules that are in a gas or vapour state or dissolved molecules/ions
(Tombs, et.al, 1959). Spectroscopy is the use of electromagnetic radiation by a sample in order to
identify components of the sample (qualitative analysis) or to measure the amount of material in
that sample (quantitative analysis) (Tombs, et.al, 1959). Absorption is a process in which... Show

The Veldt And There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray Bradbury...
Technology Against Humanity Technology is a helpful tool that society has become accustomed to
using. However, the overuse of technology can lead to disaster. In The Veldt and There Will Come
Soft Rains , Ray Bradbury explores the power that technology holds through the use of futuristic
gadgets. Both stories contain smart homes that provide everything for the humans living in the
house and show the destruction caused by it. Through these technological advancements, the reader
sees how mankind is being defeated by its own creation in mental and physical ways. Bradbury uses
the superior technology of the smart home, the replacement of humans for the newest electronics,
and the dependence of technology on humans to explain that overindulgence of these modern
appliances can have drastic results. The smart home s advanced technology leads more to demise
rather than happiness. An example of this is in The Veldtwhen it is stated that, They walked down
the hall of their soundproofed Happylife Home, which had cost them thirty thousand dollars
installed, this house which clothed and fed and rocked them to sleep and played and sang and
was good to them (3 4). The house does everything for them, but it still cannot put Lydia at ease. It
also makes its inhabitants feel useless which does more to harm them than help them. Another
instance of technology leading to demise is in There Will Come Soft Rains when Bradbury states
that, The house tries to save itself (11). Technology has become so much like humans that it is
performing human actions. Unfortunately, all humans must die which is why technology must do
it as well. Technology s death is also foreshadowed in this passage which states, This was the one
house left standing. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for
miles ( Soft Rains 5). Technology has outlived humans yet it cannot survive without them. When
this computerization of a home tries to survive on its own, it causes destruction. In short, when
technology has no more humans left to serve, its purpose is gone. Therefore all it has left to do is
vanish. The humans in these stories also depend so much on technology that they have been
replaced by it. Technology s

The Fear Of Robots From Star Wars
The Fear of Robots R2D2 from Star Wars is a robot that helps the humans and is a famous movie
icon. Decepticon from Transformers, however, is a widely known robot that is out to kill
humans. These movies and other social inputs have made a two sided view of robots; either
people support robots and are excited to see the future with them or they are against them and fear
any kind of artificial intelligence. Robotics is a double edged sword; there is a considerable
amount of evidence and experience to safely say that robots are essential to humans, yet many
people have the innate fear that they will surpass humans. Rather than fearing robots, people should
try to embrace the advancing technology and the benefits that could result from it.... Show more

For example, robotic technology is helping amputees by offering robotic body parts. This
scientific breakthrough gives a person the power to grab things for themselves or get around
without a wheelchair and continue with normal life. Robots not only help patients, but they also
help the doctors by assisting with surgery. One example is the new DaVinci surgical system.
This device allows the doctor to perform complex surgery with a minimally invasive approach
through a separate console that magnifies the doctor s view of the working area. This new
technique allows the doctor to perform the same work on a minimalized scale which makes it
easier to perform tasks where the human hand is too big to work. This minimally invasive
approach also helps patients recover from surgery since the incision is smaller, reducing the risk
of infections. According to DaVinci s website, this new technology has helped over 3 million
patients worldwide, which shows that many people are not afraid to trust these machines to do
their job. Another very important field robots play in is the military. Today, more than ever,
soldiers lives are being spared because of the robotic soldiers that are stepping in and doing the
dangerous jobs that could mean life or death. The Army, Marines, Navy, and the Air Force are all

The Pros And Cons Of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a complex, chronic, severe and disabling brain disorder that affects
approximately 1% of all adults worldwide. It affects males and females equally (University of
Maryland Medical Centre). Signs and symptoms of Schizophrenia usually become apparent earlier
in men that is between the ages of 15 to 25 among men, and later in women, that is about 25 to 35
in women. The symptoms of Schizophreniaare classified into: positive, negative and cognitive
symptoms. The positive symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders, and
movement disorders (U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, National
institute of Mental health). Negative symptoms include lack of pleasure in everyday life, lack of
ability to begin and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For ethical reasons all our results and conclusions will be based on statistics without revealing
who among those we tested is affected or not affected to the public. From the adoption study we
expect Schizophrenia to be more in biological relatives of schizophrenic adoptees than in those
of control adoptees. It will also be of great interest to us to observe if the risk of the adopted
away children to develop Schizophrenia increases if both genetic parents are schizophrenics
compared to if only one of the genetic parents is schizophrenic. Some of the genes may appear to
be associated with the disorder in some ethnic groups and not in others, which would make it
difficult to for us to say that a specific gene is associated with Schizophrenia in general population.
This may be because predisposition for Schizophrenia is created by different combination and/or of
genes in different populations interacting with certain environmental factors. As association studies
always follow linkage studies which identify possible genomic regions or even specific candidate
genes which contribute to the development of a genetically influenced disorder. Results from
linkage studies depend on a variety of factors, including the presumption of the mode of
inheritance, the involvement of genes whose effects are large enough to detect and the extent to
which family members are diagnosed accurately as either affected or unaffected with a disorder in
the schizophrenia spectrum. Since all of these factors are problematic, it is will not be suprising
that results from linkage studies are less conclusive and have yet to identify genes that major
effects to the development of

for hepatitis C. The humanized mouse has the human immune system incorported into it. Hepatitis
C is known to affect many around the world. It leads to liver damage. With the aid of the
humanized mouse, understanding the mechanism hepatitis Cuses to invade the liver can be studied.
With the humanized mouse, treatment can be administered or developed against hepatitis C. With

The humanized mice were then infected with hepatitis C virus and the immune response and liver
disease stimulated by hepatitis C was studied. A group of control mice were prepared to study
against. The results showed that hepatitis C virus infected the liver and produced an immune
response of T cells against hepatitis C virus. Due to infection by the virus it produced an
inflammation of the liver, hepatitis and fibrosis. Therefore it can be said that humanized mouse is
helpful in understanding the infection pathway, the immune response and liver disease cause by
hepatitis C. The humanized mouse can aid in finding treatments for hepatitis C virus.
Hepatitis C affects millions worldwide. Hepatitis C causes infection leading to chronic liver disease.
Human hepatocyte chimeric mice were made by transplantation of the human hepatocyte to mice.
Reverse genetic hepatitis C viruses of two different genotypes were made from infectious clones
and human hepatocyte chimeric mice. Chimeric mice were injected with both genotypes of
hepatitis C. There after treatment by interferon was administered. A control of human serum from
a donor with chronic hepatitis C was used. The results obtained showed that mice injected with
both genotypes of hepatitis C virus had a quantifiable level of virus present in the blood. It was
observed that genotype 1 did not response to interferon therapy as compared to genotype 2.
Results showed a decreased level of genotype 2 of hepatitis C virus after

The War On Drugs Should Be Discontinued
The united states spends a lot of money keeping dangerous criminals in prisons and off of the
streets. The phrase a lot hardly does justice describing a figure like 70 billion dollars.
Unfortunately, almost 50 percent of these criminals America spends that wad of cash on were
arrested for non violent drug charges, and are not a danger to America s safety at all. Drugs are
no good, but do not cause harm to anyone but the user. That is, until these drugs are made illegal
and drug cartels see huge profits in the illegal trade that they are willing to kill for. In 1971
President Nixon waged, quite dramatically, a full blown war against drugs abuse, claiming that
addiction is directly related to crime. Instead of offering therapy for addicts, the plan from 1971
and on was to incarcerate them, and ruin their lives far more so than the drugs ever had. The war
on drugs should be discontinued to cease wasteful spending, end the incarceration of peaceful
peoples, and prevent the deaths of officers and citizens alike. Already a trillion dollar failure thus
far, the war on drugs adds 51 billion dollars to that tab every year. An effort of these proportions
should have some accomplishments to boast, right? Sadly, it does not. The current United States
drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, who directs the drug control policies in America, is quoted talking
about the war on drugs, saying, Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems is, if
anything, magnified, intensified. In

Techniques and Their Effects- the Truman Show
The Truman Show In the film The Truman Show , directed by Peter Weir, many techniques are
strategically used to position the audience to respond emotionally to Truman Burbank. Techniques
such as lighting, music, camera shots and angles are used in three specific scenes throughout the
film co ordinated by the shows director Christof. He uses these techniques to encourage the show
s audience to believe that what they are watching is unscripted and real. The first scene
Introducing Truman Day 10,909 is an example of one of these scenes as it uses techniques to
introduce to the audience Truman s world as one that is cheerful, happy and bright. As Truman gets

When Truman does not walk into his workplace the show s audience respond with excitement
and a sense of pride. High angle tracking shots are used as cameras follow Truman and his every
step, unable to anticipate his next move. The reverse shot in the side mirror of a car closely
follow Truman and as several people obstruct the view it appears as if Truman is trying to get
away and disappear from the scrutiny of the cameras. Truman tentatively surveys the area and for
the first time listens to conversations around him. Close up shots of several conversations
position the audience to also question those around Truman. These techniques used position the
audience to respond with enthusiasm and delight towards Truman and his suspicions about the
world he lives in. It is no longer seen as perfect. In the third scene Truman s Dad Returns , the
atmosphere is depressing and dark as Truman finally realises what is happening. The lighting is
bright and happy as the police return Meryl and Truman to their home. Meryl reflects this bright
lighting with her smile and belief that she is in control of the situation. Whereas Truman is
slouched over in his chair provoking the audience to feel sorry for his sadness and his dark and
gloomy expression. When the camera focuses back on Meryl, however the audience is positioned
to feel enlightened by her smile and positive attitude. As Truman starts to get serious and the knife
is pulled out dramatic music possesses the background. The room

Peter Singer Analysis
Poverty and hunger is a common social issue that affects a large percentage of the world
population, and has troubled nations all over the world for thousands of years. It s an issue that
we can experience every day without realizing it. We might see a commercial asking for donations
on television, or a homeless woman asking for money to feed her son at the bus stop, or in the
news when they talk about children dying of starvation.
Now, this issue brings out a particular question; are we obligated to donate and help those in
need? Do we have a moral obligation to do so? Or is helping those in need morally optional? Peter
Singer and Jan Narveson both discuss this issue, yet both have very different opinions. Peter in one
hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes helping those in need, and giving donation, is completely optional. Opposed to Peter
s belief, Jan indicated that there is a distinction from not preventing something bad from
happening, than actually making it happen. For example, If I was to lock you in a room and let
you starve to death, I have consiensly murder you. But if someone else was to do the same thing
to you, you would have died of starvation. The outcome was not intended by my actions. If was to
know that you were starving, I might feel pity for you and would want to help you, or pehaps I
would feel indifferent to what you are going thought, either way, my previous activities did not
cause your outcome, therefore I may choose if I want to help you or not. Jan also indicates that
there is a difference between justice and charity. Justice are those actions that we are enforced to
do. Charity is not. Charity is voluntarily wanting to help and benefit those less fortunate. It is
sometimes morally allowed to force someone to fulfill their justice duties, but it is not morally
allowed to force someone to be charitable. Charity is something you do because you want to, and
perhaps there is emotion behind that action. If we force people to be charitable, it will no longer be
charity, but

Memi And Sabu Comparison
Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back
before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi
and Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use
hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people
from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities,
perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles
of design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these
civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them.
Memi and Sabu hail from ancient Egypt, well known for its prized representations of kings and
gods as well as elaborate tombs. They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Memi and Sabu clearly have an intimate relationship and unlike Gudea, great detail has gone into
shaping the contours and details of their bodies. One can see the feminine slope of Sabu s torso
making her much more delicate and small in comparison to her partner. We can see the muscular
detail of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much
lighter compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall.
There is also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look
almost as if they could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels
more cemented. He is formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of
weight and importance. His texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Gudea s pose is
much more thoughtful, his hands clasped, his shoulders squared and together these elements echo
the inscriptions of his great work as a religious

Madness In Wide Sargasso Sea
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys shows the delicate balance between madness and sanity.
Throughout both novels there is a lot of unusual behavior to say the least from Antoinette. There are
many factors that can have a detrimental effect on one s mental stability which is shown blatantly
through the relationship between Antoinette and Bertha. This shows the relationship and balance
between inherited factors and environmental influences such as other people and events that are
happening around the person.
Though physically Antoinette and Bertha are the same person the distinction between them
becomes apparent when looked at from a psychological point of view. Bertha is the psychological
manifestation of Antoinette s madness. The way Rhys presents ... Show more content on

An example of this is when Mr. Rochester cheated on her and slept with AmГ©lie. Antoinette went
into a depression like state and Bertha is the one who attacked and bit Mr. Rochester. This is
another thing that leads to the idea that Antoinette has DID as in cases such as this the stronger
personality (Bertha) takes over in an attempt to protect and shield the weaker one(s) (Antoinette). In
a situation where Antoinette is in danger or deemed as needing to be protected Bertha takes over
and attempts to do so by whatever means necessary.
Antoinette s madness is a very important part of the novel as it leads her to the life that BrontГ«
created for her in Jane Eyre. Antoinette has suffered so much throughout her life that Bertha
becomes a way for her to disconnect from everything and disappear for a while. Considering the
life she lived as a child and how she was treated not just by the other people on the island but her
own mother it is easy to see why this other personality has surfaced. This shows just how much of
an impact other people and events can have on a

Bernie Sanders Effectiveness
Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate because many of his ideas are common sense,
he is effective, and he stands up for civil and minority rights more than other candidates. The first
reason Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate is many of his ideas are common sense.

Relationship Between Vivian And Molly
In any genuine friendship there are the differences between the people that spark curiosity, yet,
it is similarities that draw two together to form a tight bond. This is evident in the friendship that
starts between Vivian and Molly. Vivian, from outward show, does not display the slightest
similarity with Molly. It is not until one examines the often tragic back stories of both that
striking parallels begin to be made clear. By the time all is uncovered, the likenesses shared
between Vivian and Molly far outweigh any disparities. In examining the relationship between
Vivian and Molly, a perfect balance is struck in Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. In
Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline weaves a strong friendship between two characters, Vivian
and Molly, despite a lengthy list of differences. The most blatant contrast, and the root cause of
many other differences, is age and the separate eras both Vivian and Molly grow up in. In the
span of her life, Vivian Nielsen, a ninety one year old widow, experiences the Great Depression,
World War II, and a technology boom impossible to keep up with. On the other hand, Molly Ayer
is a sixteen year old tech savvy foster child who uses her Goth persona like armor against an
unsympathetic society (Kline 4). Another dissimilarity is ethnicity. Vivian is a first generation Irish
immigrant and in being a Penobscot Native American Indian, Molly is unable to be more different
than Vivian. While these differences seem apparent, the

El Г©xito de una campaГ±a se mide no por el recuerdo del mensaje en si, sino por el recuerdo de
la marca.
Elementos a evaluar
2. La PersuasiГіn:
Elementos a evaluar
escasa repercusiГіn en la persuasiГіn.
Se debe evitar que la utilizaciГіn de elementos destinados a agradar

Case Study Of Senator Sanders
TAIWO OLADUNNI. The two potential reasons why Senator Sanders supports increasing top
tax rates is so as discourage greed which is broadly defined as extracting income at the expense
of the rest of the economy as opposed to real productive behavior. This plan would result in an all

The Divine Comedy And Divine Comedy In Dante s Inferno

Dante Alighieri was a major Italian poet of the Late Middle Ages. His most known is his Divine
Comedy , which are comprised of Hell Inferno , Purgatory Purgatorio , and Paradise Paradiso .
Dante Alighieri is most famous for describing and illustrating hell in his work. His work, Inferno
, is widely praised as one of the greatest classics of Western literature, which is about Dante s
journey through the nine circles of Hell. He describes hell as a gigantic tunnel that leads to the
center of the Earth. According to Dante, due to Lucifer s prideful attempt to storm Heaven , God
threw Lucifer out of Heaven . The sheer force of thrust created the gigantic hole in the Earth. Thus,
Lucifer was cast all the way to the very center of the Earth.
In the first part of Dante s Divine Comedy , he finds himself lost and wandering in the dark woods
, trying to find the correct path he should be following. (Alighieri, Canto I) Later, Dante finds
himself confronted by a she wolf . Having nowhere else to go, a strange figure, Virgil, helps
Dante find a different path. Virgil commands Dante to follow him and experience the horrors of
Hell , the hope of those doing penance in Purgatory , and the realm of the blessed in Paradise.
Dante agrees, and they begin their long journey, starting from Hell . (Alighieri, Canto I)
Hell was divided into nine circles, each of which representing the degree of sin in every circle.
The sinners who have sinned the least or the sins are least offensive, belonged in the upper circles.
For the sinners who have sinned more belonged to the lower circles. As Dante and Virgil goes
through each circle, Dante chose a well known figure of the time or from history or legend to
illustrate the sin. Also, he encounters sinners whose sins become increasingly hateful, offensive,
murderous, and traitorous. He ends with Satan or Lucifer, at the center of the Earth.
The very first deadly sin or the Second Circle, is Lust . Lust is usually thought of as involving
obsessive or excessive feeling or desire for something. In Dante s opinion lust usually leads to
excessive love of others , which therefore made love and devotion to

Andrew Jackson s Presidency
Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States of America, and the first President to have
an assassination attempt plotted against him, is viewed as one of the most controversial figures in
American History. Scenarios that prove of Jackson being a controversial figure during his
presidency, include the Nullification Crisis, Bank War, and the Trail of Tears. These three scenarios
dictate whether the content of Andrew Jacksons character and whether he had a successful
presidency or not.
It is important that people should consider Jackson s early life to get more of an understanding to
why he might have made the presidential choices that were deemed controversial by many

A person s sexual identity may seem like something obvious, something that should be an
essential characteristic of our lives. However as we have found, these things are not always so
simple, often finding that our sexual identity, is ever changing most of our lives. I have given my
own identity some thought and I find for me it wasn t easy. In this essay I will be discussing my

Some researchers state that genetics and environmental factors are important determining element
of homosexual behavior. They also state that birth place relates to the sexual orientationof marriage

decreased the probability of heterosexual marriage. Everyone environment effects your sexuality in
some way or another either negative or positively by supporting or repressing it. It plays a role in
whether your homosexual, heterosexual, or bi sexual. (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner Rathus, 2005) Our
text states that history places sexual attitudes and behavior in context. It informs us as to whether
sexual behavior reflects trends that have been with us through the millennia or the customs of a
particular culture and era. History shows little evidence of universal sexual trends. Attitudes and
behaviors vary extensively from one time and place to another. (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner Rathus,

Effects of Human Capital on Maize Production in Ghana Essay
Agriculture constitutes about one third of GDP and provides employment for about two thirds of
the labor force in Sub Saharan Africa. Productivity growth in agriculture is therefore an important
element for economic growth and development. Yet, growth in this sector has been slow.
According to the World Bank (1989), agricultural growth for the continent from 1980 to 1989
averaged only 1.8% per year. Therefore, improving this growth rate is of increasing concern for
both governments and international organizations (Pinckney 1995). Investing in the human capital
base is regarded as one of the most effective ways to improve agricultural productivity (Nelson and
Phelps, 1966; Romer, 1990; Bindlish and Evenson, 1997; Birdsall et al., 1999).... Show more

Rivera (1998) argues that education, irrespective of the form, improves productivity to a very
significant extent.
1.2 Problem Statement
Agriculture is a very important sector in the Ghanaian economy. Although its contribution to
GDP decreased from 43.5% in 1990 to 21.5% in 2013, it still remains a significant player in the
economy of the country (Ghana Statistical Service 2008; ISSER 2011; CIA 2013). The
agricultural sector employs about 60% of the workforce in Ghana and can therefore be regarded as
the backbone of the Ghanaian economy (ISSER, 2011).
Maize is the most important cereal crop produced in Ghana and it is also the most widely
consumed staple food in Ghana (Morris et al., 1999). Maize accounts for 55% of grain output in
the country. Maize is also an important component of poultry feed and to a lesser extent the
livestock feed sector, as well as a substitute for the brewing industry.
Although maize productivity has been increasing over the years, studies show that Ghanaian
farmers are yet to produce enough to meet the nation s demand. The most recent domestic
production data shows that the shortfall between domestic production and consumption would
reach 267,000 Mt by 2015 if there were no productivity improvements (MOFA, 2011), prolonging

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tariffs
CHALLENGES
BARRIERS RELATING TO CUSTOMS
Many companies, particularly those in the retail sector, have suggested that tariffs present the
greatest barrier to cross border e commerce. This problem does not exist within the EU, which is a
free trade area; however, when exporting to countries outside of the EU tariffs are, indeed, a major
problem. One business suggested that outside of the EU, tariffs are always the most problematic .
Tariffs raise the price of the products sold by e traders and consequently reduce their
competitiveness. Tariffs are, however, not more of a problem for e commerce than they are for
traditional trade. Therefore, in this study we have chosen not to delve deeper into the levels of the
tariffs, but instead to focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One clear example of this is the requirement to use paper invoices and handwritten contracts. This
increases the administrative burden for companies and makes the use of various online based

possible to use this service in countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine, where the use of
paper invoices and handwritten contracts is a requirement.
Double taxation
E commerce creates revenues overseas, and there is, therefore, a risk of double taxation.
Fortunately, bilateral agreements often exist to deal with this. Despite such agreements being in

What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most...
Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately,
there has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although
many researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many
theories as to why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial
and lateral hamstring musclethat leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring
strains are painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be
found in athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions
(Valle, 2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the
back of the thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to
bend the leg. The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps
femoris. The hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia
(Prentice, 2015). These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis.
The muscles meet at the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through
connective tissue that attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle
groups work to help extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing

Gothic Elements Present in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The...
Gothic novels consist of supernatural and inexplicable elements, prophecies and curses that have a
major influence on the theme over the literature. Gothic is a method of literature with particular
traits. Gothic elements are present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter through Puritanism,
sin and suspense and Gothic structure. The underlying theme within the novel suggests that sins of
the past are unavoidable as they haunt the protagonist of the story. The Scarlet Letteris filled with
gothic elements from the mystery of secrets that continue to haunt the protagonists and the
uncertainty due to supernatural forces. There is also something uncanny about the plot as it is
presented as a true event that had happened thus it is familiar yet the reader is unsure of it. Sin
and the consequences that follow control the general plot. There is an overall gothic atmosphere
of suspense, mystery and secrecy. For example, the identity of Pearl s father is kept secret and
unknown to the reader. The other characters of the novel are also malicious such as Pearl or
Chillingworth. They seem to be involved in some sort of witchcraft as they are not normal and are
set apart from the Puritancommunity. Hester, Pearl s mother, is also described as a dark, shadow

Human Nature And Its Effects On Human Evolution
I think that it is amazing that they found the fossils of a human that looks so different than
anything they have found before and that existed not that long ago. I believe based on the evidence
and the different articles that it is a new species. If that truly is the case, then that is amazing to
even think about. There is dissimilarity within species; there are also discrete species. The term
hominid is a member of the zoological family Hominidae. Hominidae incorporates all species
instigating after the human/African ape familial divided, leading to and as well as all species of
Australopithecus and Homo.
Human evolution has mystified man for many years. Human inquisitiveness has made us wonder
where and how we came about. I believe in human evolution because the fossils found as evidence,
the way humans associate to some other living organisms, and the way we will remain to
progress. The hominid fossils that were recovered in Africa, Europe, and Asia over the past 120
years are the products of mineralization. This ordinary procedure has happened by the oozing of
minerals into the hard tissues of animals or plants which had been unexpectedly been enclosed by

Trust can be defined as assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or

There are in Othello, as in life, many different types of love, with some characters displaying
different sorts of love depending on with whom they are sharing their love. Probably The Senate
scene should be studied carefully in order to reach an adequate appreciation of the frankly
declared love of these newly wedded people. Only by realizing the great depth of their love can
one grasp the enormity of Iago s hideous crime against them. Some of the commentators tell us
that it was a love in which one great soul called to another, but each reader must find his own
evidence of such a love in the lines of the play. Careful study will convince him that theirs was a
greater, deeper love than the impetuous love of Romeo and Juliet or the impassioned love of
Antony and Cleopatra. (82)
Daringly, Shakespeare opens this tragedy of love not with a direct and sympathetic portrayal of
the lovers themselves, but with a scene of vicious insinuation about their marriage. The images
employed by Iago to describe the coupling of Othello and Desdemona are revoltingly animalistic,
sodomistic. [. . .] This degraded view reduces the marriage to one of utter carnality, with repeated
emphasis on the word gross : Desdemona has yielded to the gross clasps of the lascivious Moor,
and has made a gross revolt against her family and society (II.129, 137). (218)

countries gave them the chance to rebuild their cities and economies. No country took more
advantage of this opportunity than Japan. Japan was a huge militaristic power in World War II .
Their aggressive behavior caused them to be stripped of their military and their power for self rule.
The demilitarization of Japan changed the country s focus from world militaristic domination to
world economic domination. The country established free trade, manufactured goods, and
improved and invented technology, making themselves one of the largest economic superpowers

A Number Of Learning Style Theories Exist
A number of learning style theories exist. Learning style theorists according to Csapo and Hayen
(2006) have identified specific characteristics of learning and have organized these characteristics
into specific classifications of learners. Learning styles are individual differences in learning and an
individual s learning style is the way he or she concentrates on, processes, internalizes, and
remembers new and difficult academic information or skills.
According to GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) learning styles can be described as the means of
perceiving, processing, storing, and recalling attempts in the learning process. In GГјlbahar and
Alper (2011) research, various cognitive and learning style theories and models have been
proposed over the course of many years, identifying and categorizing individual differences like
Hill s Cognitive Style Mapping (1976), Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles (1978), Howard Gardner s
Multiple Intelligence Theory (1983), Kolb s Learning Styles (1984), Gregorc Learning Styles
(1985), Felder Silverman Learning Model (1988), Grasha Reichmann Learning Style Scales
(1996), and Hermann Brain Dominance Models (1996). These models of learning styles are
currently being used in today s society.
One approach is Kolb s (1984) Experiential Learning Theory, which is based on the works of Kurt

accommodative, assimilative, divergent, and convergent which are based

attitude. When a purchase decision is made, it involves a value calculation. In general, value is
measured by price. But the price does not really reflect the true value. The most common value is
economic value. Beside economic value, there are cultural value and social value. Value is
important to both individual and business. This essay mainly explores the concept of value and its
influence on people s living.
2. The concepts of value
2.1 Definition of Value
Value is defined as the desirability of something, such as usefulness and exchangeability, also is
defined as the amount of money for a fair exchange for something (paperchain , nd). According to
Adam Smith, the word value , had two different meanings: value in use and value in
exchange.George [1908] mentioned that value of a thing was the largest amount of wealth that
anyone was willing to exchange for. Mises [1934] added that value is always the result of
subjective judgments, and intrinsically related to the worth that the consumer wanted to exchange
for. Dewey( 1939) considered

How Does La Contessa Respond To Isolation
The Sorrows of Unopposed Isolation Companionship is something all humans will encounter
throughout their lifespan, whether it be genuine or false. A genuine companion is one who offers
advice and support with positive and selfless intent. A bogus companion may offer advice and
companionship, but seeks some sort of disguised self benefit or is ashamed of the relationship. In
the Enlightenment novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe and in the Baroque opera Le
Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, a theme of isolation due to lack of companionship is prevalent. The
main characters, Werther and La Contessa respectively, respond to isolation differently, resulting in
a different outcome for the two. Ultimately, the character of La Contessa ended up better off than
Werther because of how she responded to isolation. Based upon their response to isolation, I argue
that when no genuine companion is present, it is better for a person to pursue or accept bogus
companionship rather than no companionship, despite the circumstances that lead them to the
isolated state.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Werther, the protagonist, is obsessed with Charlotte, the main female character. Together, they form
a genuine companionship, spending time together and offering advice to one another. Despite their
deep connection, such as when they bonded over Klopstock, Charlotte rejects Werther romantically,
as she is already bound to Albert. Due to Werther s all in or all out mentality, when rejected by
Charlotte romantically, he first becomes obsessive and, due to Charlotte s steadfast rejection,
chooses to isolate himself from her completely. By removing Charlotte from his life, he had no
other companions to turn to other than Wilhelm, a character with whom he corresponded with only

Ice Hockey Is The Highest Level For Men s Hockey
Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters
use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent s net to score points. Ice
hockey teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two
goaltenders. Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take
the puck and score a goal against the opposing team. Teams normally have a goaltender as their
sixth on ice player, whose job is to prevent the puck from entering the goal.
A fast paced physical sport (leading to the nickname The Fastest Game on Earth ), hockey is most
popular in areas of North America (particularly Canada and the northern United States) ... Show

The contemporary sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Winsor, where
the first hockey game was played on March 3, 1875. Some characteristics of that game, such as
the length of the ice rink and the use of a puck, have been retained to this day. Amateur ice
hockey leagues began in the 1880s, and professional ice hockey originated around 1900. The
Stanley Cup, emblematic of ice hockey club supremacy, was first awarded in 1893 to recognize
the Canadian amateur champion and later became the championship trophy of the NHL. In the
early 1900s, the Canadian rules were adopted by the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace,
the precursor of the IIHF and the sport was played for the first time in the Olympics in the
Olympic Games of 1920.
In international competitions, the national teams of six countries (The Big Six ) predominate:
Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden and the United States. Of the 69 medals
awarded all time in men s competition at the Olympics, only six medals were not awarded to one
of those countries. In the annual Ice Hockey World Championships, 177 of 201 medals have
been awarded to the six nations. Teams outside the Big Six have won only five medals in either
competition since 1953:[3][4] All 12 Women s Olympic and 36 IIHF World Women s
Championships medals have been awarded to one of these six

conducting a strategic management project
INTRODUTION: The original assignment tasks for this unit involved carrying out a management
project and producing a formal report as the final output. It is with regret that this has not been
possible due to the fact that I am not in current employment and as a result, the assignment has been
adjusted to accommodate my (and others) circumstances. Instead, I have been asked to write a
personal statement for each of the learning outcomes. This report is divided into four tasks and is a
combination of theory and personal application. To assist in my articulation of my personal
statements I have used a scenario throughout the assignment pertaining to the moving of a
commercial glasshouse and the subsequent growing of tomatos. I do... Show more content on

completion of this research time, staff, finances, equipment etc I would set this information out
a written research plan for approval. This form of documentation (and the Scope Statement)
helps senior managers and investors in deciding the validity of such projects and can be used to
decide which project to support if there is more than one option available. TASK TWO: Be able
to conduct research, using sources, and synthesise data and options The nature of the enquiry will
determine the type of research required. For example, research to decide if it is viable to move a
1.5ha glasshouse from Christchurch to Nelson, New Zealand is very different to establishing if
consumers prefer long life, acid free, vine ripe, extra large, or cherry tomato s. The type and source
of information will vary greatly, for example deciding to move a glasshouse might involve
comparative studies into: sunlight hours, heating (boiler) council bylaws, cost of heating if there
are changes, accessibility and cost of resources and support products, cost of moving/transporting
the glasshouse, cost of non production during transition phase, actual profit (Christchurch) versus
projected profit (Nelson); Deciding which tomato s to plant in the glass house might involve:
consumer surveys or interviews, sales records from supermarkets and produce markets, cost of

The Professional Nursing Mindset Of A Healthier And More...
Analysis
Change Mindset The first thing that needs to change is the professional nursing mindset of taking
the break that they are entitled to. Nurses tend to feel that it is uncommon, unnecessary, and even
wrong to take a break. Like one nurse put it: ...We don t always say, okay, go. Because they ve got
the old Catholic guilt that nurses get embedded into them as part of the military training we go
through (Happell et al., 2013, p. 644). Nurses need to realize that they are only hurting themselves
and the patients they think they are helping by not taking breaks. Leaders play a role in helping
identify the issue and using management skills to guide the unit into a healthier and more positive
mindset (Brunges Foley Brinza, 2014).
Communication
To assess if there is a problem with the current setup, nurse managers and leaders can try to gauge
employee satisfaction with surveys. If nurses indicate a problem with not getting their entitled
break, then action should be taken. Communication is key so meetings can be called to try to
brainstorm what the problem is i.e. are there too many patients or is there not enough coverage?
Communication should be encouraged and suggestions and problems be brought to management
attention. This can be stimulated with monthly unit meetings, having an open door policy, or even
a suggestion box. However the best type of communication is face to face so the matter can be
discussed and clarifications can be made without

International Monetary Fund ( Imf ) And World Bank
International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank are both international financial institutes that
where formed in July 1944 by the United Nation in Bretton Woods, United States. They are
sometimes referred to as The Bretton Woods Institutes. They are both landers of last resort and they
both offer loans and help countries design policy programs to solve balance of payments problems
when sufficient finance cannot be obtained by the country. IMF offers short and medium term

The World Bank, as an institute that offers loans and help countries design policy that will improve

1992. The program was referred to as Economic Structural Adjustment Program (ESAP) and it was
a policy designed by the World Bank itself. After independence, the government of Zimbabwe
invested heavily on education and health sectors through parastatals, in rural areas development
and the productive sectors. This led to an increased public sector which made up of forty five

million as Structural Adjustment credit. The program was suppose to run for five years and the

The Spectrophotometer Determination Of Protein Concentrations And The Effects Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate And Triton X 100 Have On Protein Concentration. INTRODUCTION Spectroscopy is used as a collective term for all the analytical techniques based on the interaction of light and matter. Spectrophotometry is one of the branches of spectroscopy where we measure the absorption of light by molecules that are in a gas or vapour state or dissolved molecules/ions (Tombs, et.al, 1959). Spectroscopy is the use of electromagnetic radiation by a sample in order to identify components of the sample (qualitative analysis) or to measure the amount of material in that sample (quantitative analysis) (Tombs, et.al, 1959). • 3. The Veldt And There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray Bradbury... Technology Against Humanity Technology is a helpful tool that society has become accustomed to using. However, the overuse of technology can lead to disaster. In The Veldt and There Will Come Soft Rains , Ray Bradbury explores the power that technology holds through the use of futuristic gadgets. Both stories contain smart homes that provide everything for the humans living in the house and show the destruction caused by it. Through these technological advancements, the reader sees how mankind is being defeated by its own creation in mental and physical ways. Bradbury uses the superior technology of the smart home, the replacement of humans for the newest electronics, and the dependence of technology on humans to explain that overindulgence of these modern appliances can have drastic results. The smart home s advanced technology leads more to demise rather than happiness. An example of this is in The Veldtwhen it is stated that, They walked down the hall of their soundproofed Happylife Home, which had cost them thirty thousand dollars installed, this house which clothed and fed and rocked them to sleep and played and sang and was good to them (3 4). The house does everything for them, but it still cannot put Lydia at ease. It also makes its inhabitants feel useless which does more to harm them than help them. Another instance of technology leading to demise is in There Will Come Soft Rains when Bradbury states that, The house tries to save itself (11). Technology has become so much like humans that it is performing human actions. Unfortunately, all humans must die which is why technology must do it as well. Technology s death is also foreshadowed in this passage which states, This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles ( Soft Rains 5). Technology has outlived humans yet it cannot survive without them. When this computerization of a home tries to survive on its own, it causes destruction. In short, when technology has no more humans left to serve, its purpose is gone. Therefore all it has left to do is vanish. The humans in these stories also depend so much on technology that they have been replaced by it. Technology s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Fear Of Robots From Star Wars The Fear of Robots R2D2 from Star Wars is a robot that helps the humans and is a famous movie icon. Decepticon from Transformers, however, is a widely known robot that is out to kill humans. These movies and other social inputs have made a two sided view of robots; either people support robots and are excited to see the future with them or they are against them and fear any kind of artificial intelligence. Robotics is a double edged sword; there is a considerable amount of evidence and experience to safely say that robots are essential to humans, yet many people have the innate fear that they will surpass humans. Rather than fearing robots, people should try to embrace the advancing technology and the benefits that could result from it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, robotic technology is helping amputees by offering robotic body parts. This scientific breakthrough gives a person the power to grab things for themselves or get around without a wheelchair and continue with normal life. Robots not only help patients, but they also help the doctors by assisting with surgery. One example is the new DaVinci surgical system. This device allows the doctor to perform complex surgery with a minimally invasive approach through a separate console that magnifies the doctor s view of the working area. This new technique allows the doctor to perform the same work on a minimalized scale which makes it easier to perform tasks where the human hand is too big to work. This minimally invasive approach also helps patients recover from surgery since the incision is smaller, reducing the risk of infections. According to DaVinci s website, this new technology has helped over 3 million patients worldwide, which shows that many people are not afraid to trust these machines to do their job. Another very important field robots play in is the military. For ethical reasons all our results and conclusions will be based on statistics without revealing who among those we tested is affected or not affected to the public. From the adoption study we expect Schizophrenia to be more in biological relatives of schizophrenic adoptees than in those of control adoptees. It will also be of great interest to us to observe if the risk of the adopted away children to develop Schizophrenia increases if both genetic parents are schizophrenics compared to if only one of the genetic parents is schizophrenic. Some of the genes may appear to be associated with the disorder in some ethnic groups and not in others, which would make it difficult to for us to say that a specific gene is associated with Schizophrenia in general population. This may be because predisposition for Schizophrenia is created by different combination and/or of genes in different populations interacting with certain environmental factors. As association studies always follow linkage studies which identify possible genomic regions or even specific candidate genes which contribute to the development of a genetically influenced disorder. Results from linkage studies depend on a variety of factors, including the presumption of the mode of inheritance, the involvement of genes whose effects are large enough to detect and the extent to which family members are diagnosed accurately as either affected or unaffected with a disorder in the schizophrenia spectrum. Since all of these factors are problematic, it is will not be suprising that results from linkage studies are less conclusive and have yet to identify genes that major effects to the development of ... • 8. The War On Drugs Should Be Discontinued The united states spends a lot of money keeping dangerous criminals in prisons and off of the streets. The phrase a lot hardly does justice describing a figure like 70 billion dollars. Unfortunately, almost 50 percent of these criminals America spends that wad of cash on were arrested for non violent drug charges, and are not a danger to America s safety at all. Drugs are no good, but do not cause harm to anyone but the user. That is, until these drugs are made illegal and drug cartels see huge profits in the illegal trade that they are willing to kill for. In 1971 President Nixon waged, quite dramatically, a full blown war against drugs abuse, claiming that addiction is directly related to crime. Instead of offering therapy for addicts, the plan from 1971 and on was to incarcerate them, and ruin their lives far more so than the drugs ever had. The war on drugs should be discontinued to cease wasteful spending, end the incarceration of peaceful peoples, and prevent the deaths of officers and citizens alike. Already a trillion dollar failure thus far, the war on drugs adds 51 billion dollars to that tab every year. An effort of these proportions should have some accomplishments to boast, right? Sadly, it does not. The current United States drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, who directs the drug control policies in America, is quoted talking about the war on drugs, saying, Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems is, if anything, magnified, intensified. Techniques and Their Effects- the Truman Show The Truman Show In the film The Truman Show , directed by Peter Weir, many techniques are strategically used to position the audience to respond emotionally to Truman Burbank. Techniques such as lighting, music, camera shots and angles are used in three specific scenes throughout the film co ordinated by the shows director Christof. He uses these techniques to encourage the show s audience to believe that what they are watching is unscripted and real. • 10. Peter Singer Analysis Poverty and hunger is a common social issue that affects a large percentage of the world population, and has troubled nations all over the world for thousands of years. It s an issue that we can experience every day without realizing it. We might see a commercial asking for donations on television, or a homeless woman asking for money to feed her son at the bus stop, or in the news when they talk about children dying of starvation. Now, this issue brings out a particular question; are we obligated to donate and help those in need? Do we have a moral obligation to do so? Or is helping those in need morally optional? Peter Singer and Jan Narveson both discuss this issue, yet both have very different opinions. Peter in one hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes helping those in need, and giving donation, is completely optional. Opposed to Peter s belief, Jan indicated that there is a distinction from not preventing something bad from happening, than actually making it happen. For example, If I was to lock you in a room and let you starve to death, I have consiensly murder you. But if someone else was to do the same thing to you, you would have died of starvation. The outcome was not intended by my actions. If was to know that you were starving, I might feel pity for you and would want to help you, or pehaps I would feel indifferent to what you are going thought, either way, my previous activities did not cause your outcome, therefore I may choose if I want to help you or not. Jan also indicates that there is a difference between justice and charity. Justice are those actions that we are enforced to do. Charity is not. Charity is voluntarily wanting to help and benefit those less fortunate. It is sometimes morally allowed to force someone to fulfill their justice duties, but it is not morally allowed to force someone to be charitable. Charity is something you do because you want to, and perhaps there is emotion behind that action. If we force people to be charitable, it will no longer be charity, but ... • 11. Memi And Sabu Comparison Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi and Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities, perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles of design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them. We can see the muscular detail of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much lighter compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall. There is also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look almost as if they could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels more cemented. He is formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of weight and importance. His texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Throughout both novels there is a lot of unusual behavior to say the least from Antoinette. There are many factors that can have a detrimental effect on one s mental stability which is shown blatantly through the relationship between Antoinette and Bertha. This shows the relationship and balance between inherited factors and environmental influences such as other people and events that are happening around the person. Though physically Antoinette and Bertha are the same person the distinction between them becomes apparent when looked at from a psychological point of view. • 16. Relationship Between Vivian And Molly In any genuine friendship there are the differences between the people that spark curiosity, yet, it is similarities that draw two together to form a tight bond. This is evident in the friendship that starts between Vivian and Molly. Vivian, from outward show, does not display the slightest similarity with Molly. It is not until one examines the often tragic back stories of both that striking parallels begin to be made clear. By the time all is uncovered, the likenesses shared between Vivian and Molly far outweigh any disparities. In examining the relationship between Vivian and Molly, a perfect balance is struck in Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. In Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline weaves a strong friendship between two characters, Vivian and Molly, despite a lengthy list of differences. The most blatant contrast, and the root cause of many other differences, is age and the separate eras both Vivian and Molly grow up in. In the span of her life, Vivian Nielsen, a ninety one year old widow, experiences the Great Depression, World War II, and a technology boom impossible to keep up with. On the other hand, Molly Ayer is a sixteen year old tech savvy foster child who uses her Goth persona like armor against an unsympathetic society (Kline 4). Another dissimilarity is ethnicity. Vivian is a first generation Irish immigrant and in being a Penobscot Native American Indian, Molly is unable to be more different than Vivian. While these differences seem apparent, the ... His most known is his Divine Comedy , which are comprised of Hell Inferno , Purgatory Purgatorio , and Paradise Paradiso . Dante Alighieri is most famous for describing and illustrating hell in his work. His work, Inferno , is widely praised as one of the greatest classics of Western literature, which is about Dante s journey through the nine circles of Hell. He describes hell as a gigantic tunnel that leads to the center of the Earth. According to Dante, due to Lucifer s prideful attempt to storm Heaven , God threw Lucifer out of Heaven . The sheer force of thrust created the gigantic hole in the Earth. Thus, Lucifer was cast all the way to the very center of the Earth. In the first part of Dante s Divine Comedy , he finds himself lost and wandering in the dark woods , trying to find the correct path he should be following. (Alighieri, Canto I) Later, Dante finds himself confronted by a she wolf . Having nowhere else to go, a strange figure, Virgil, helps Dante find a different path. Virgil commands Dante to follow him and experience the horrors of Hell , the hope of those doing penance in Purgatory , and the realm of the blessed in Paradise. Dante agrees, and they begin their long journey, starting from Hell . (Alighieri, Canto I) Hell was divided into nine circles, each of which representing the degree of sin in every circle. The sinners who have sinned the least or the sins are least offensive, belonged in the upper circles. For the sinners who have sinned more belonged to the lower circles. As Dante and Virgil goes through each circle, Dante chose a well known figure of the time or from history or legend to illustrate the sin. Also, he encounters sinners whose sins become increasingly hateful, offensive, murderous, and traitorous. He ends with Satan or Lucifer, at the center of the Earth. The very first deadly sin or the Second Circle, is Lust . Lust is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive feeling or desire for something. In Dante s opinion lust usually leads to excessive love of others , which therefore made love and devotion to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Effects of Human Capital on Maize Production in Ghana Essay Agriculture constitutes about one third of GDP and provides employment for about two thirds of the labor force in Sub Saharan Africa. Productivity growth in agriculture is therefore an important element for economic growth and development. Yet, growth in this sector has been slow. According to the World Bank (1989), agricultural growth for the continent from 1980 to 1989 averaged only 1.8% per year. Therefore, improving this growth rate is of increasing concern for both governments and international organizations (Pinckney 1995). Investing in the human capital base is regarded as one of the most effective ways to improve agricultural productivity (Nelson and Phelps, 1966; Romer, 1990; Bindlish and Evenson, 1997; Birdsall et al., 1999).... Although its contribution to GDP decreased from 43.5% in 1990 to 21.5% in 2013, it still remains a significant player in the economy of the country (Ghana Statistical Service 2008; ISSER 2011; CIA 2013). Maize is also an important component of poultry feed and to a lesser extent the livestock feed sector, as well as a substitute for the brewing industry. Although maize productivity has been increasing over the years, studies show that Ghanaian farmers are yet to produce enough to meet the nation s demand. • 26. What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most... Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately, there has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although many researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many theories as to why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial and lateral hamstring musclethat leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring strains are painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be found in athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions (Valle, 2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the back of the thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to bend the leg. The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps femoris. The hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia (Prentice, 2015). These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis. The muscles meet at the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through connective tissue that attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle groups work to help extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. A Number Of Learning Style Theories Exist A number of learning style theories exist. Learning style theorists according to Csapo and Hayen (2006) have identified specific characteristics of learning and have organized these characteristics into specific classifications of learners. Learning styles are individual differences in learning and an individual s learning style is the way he or she concentrates on, processes, internalizes, and remembers new and difficult academic information or skills. According to GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) learning styles can be described as the means of perceiving, processing, storing, and recalling attempts in the learning process. In GГјlbahar and Alper (2011) research, various cognitive and learning style theories and models have been proposed over the course of many years, identifying and categorizing individual differences like Hill s Cognitive Style Mapping (1976), Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles (1978), Howard Gardner s Multiple Intelligence Theory (1983), Kolb s Learning Styles (1984), Gregorc Learning Styles (1985), Felder Silverman Learning Model (1988), Grasha Reichmann Learning Style Scales (1996), and Hermann Brain Dominance Models (1996). These models of learning styles are currently being used in today s society. One approach is Kolb s (1984) Experiential Learning Theory, which is based on the works of Kurt Lewin, John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, and Jean Piaget. Kolb has described four basic learning styles: accommodative, assimilative, divergent, and convergent which are based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Value And Its Influence On People s Living 1. Introduction Money is very important to daily life. It is money that enable people to live a life they want to live and fulfill the value of life, such as happiness, health , love, and making difference. On the other hand, values determine every life decision that people makes (Determine the true purpose of money in your life, 2016). Valueis the monetary worth of something, which has great influence on indivudual s behavior and attitude. When a purchase decision is made, it involves a value calculation. In general, value is measured by price. But the price does not really reflect the true value. The most common value is economic value. Beside economic value, there are cultural value and social value. Value is important to both individual and business. This essay mainly explores the concept of value and its influence on people s living. 2. The concepts of value 2.1 Definition of Value Value is defined as the desirability of something, such as usefulness and exchangeability, also is defined as the amount of money for a fair exchange for something (paperchain , nd). According to Adam Smith, the word value , had two different meanings: value in use and value in exchange.George [1908] mentioned that value of a thing was the largest amount of wealth that anyone was willing to exchange for. Mises [1934] added that value is always the result of subjective judgments, and intrinsically related to the worth that the consumer wanted to exchange for. Dewey( 1939) considered ... • 43. How Does La Contessa Respond To Isolation The Sorrows of Unopposed Isolation Companionship is something all humans will encounter throughout their lifespan, whether it be genuine or false. A genuine companion is one who offers advice and support with positive and selfless intent. A bogus companion may offer advice and companionship, but seeks some sort of disguised self benefit or is ashamed of the relationship. In the Enlightenment novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe and in the Baroque opera Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, a theme of isolation due to lack of companionship is prevalent. The main characters, Werther and La Contessa respectively, respond to isolation differently, resulting in a different outcome for the two. Ultimately, the character of La Contessa ended up better off than Werther because of how she responded to isolation. Based upon their response to isolation, I argue that when no genuine companion is present, it is better for a person to pursue or accept bogus companionship rather than no companionship, despite the circumstances that lead them to the isolated state.... Together, they form a genuine companionship, spending time together and offering advice to one another. Despite their deep connection, such as when they bonded over Klopstock, Charlotte rejects Werther romantically, as she is already bound to Albert. Due to Werther s all in or all out mentality, when rejected by Charlotte romantically, he first becomes obsessive and, due to Charlotte s steadfast rejection, chooses to isolate himself from her completely. • 45. Ice Hockey Is The Highest Level For Men s Hockey Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent s net to score points. Ice hockey teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two goaltenders. Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team. Teams normally have a goaltender as their sixth on ice player, whose job is to prevent the puck from entering the goal. A fast paced physical sport (leading to the nickname The Fastest Game on Earth ), hockey is most popular in areas of North America (particularly Canada and the northern United States) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contemporary sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Winsor, where the first hockey game was played on March 3, 1875. Some characteristics of that game, such as the length of the ice rink and the use of a puck, have been retained to this day. Amateur ice hockey leagues began in the 1880s, and professional ice hockey originated around 1900. The Stanley Cup, emblematic of ice hockey club supremacy, was first awarded in 1893 to recognize the Canadian amateur champion and later became the championship trophy of the NHL. In the early 1900s, the Canadian rules were adopted by the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace, the precursor of the IIHF and the sport was played for the first time in the Olympics in the Olympic Games of 1920. In international competitions, the national teams of six countries (The Big Six ) predominate: Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden and the United States. Of the 69 medals awarded all time in men s competition at the Olympics, only six medals were not awarded to one of those countries. In the annual Ice Hockey World Championships, 177 of 201 medals have been awarded to the six nations. It is with regret that this has not been possible due to the fact that I am not in current employment and as a result, the assignment has been adjusted to accommodate my (and others) circumstances. Instead, I have been asked to write a personal statement for each of the learning outcomes. This report is divided into four tasks and is a combination of theory and personal application. • 47. The Professional Nursing Mindset Of A Healthier And More... Analysis Change Mindset The first thing that needs to change is the professional nursing mindset of taking the break that they are entitled to. Nurses tend to feel that it is uncommon, unnecessary, and even wrong to take a break. Like one nurse put it: ...We don t always say, okay, go. Because they ve got the old Catholic guilt that nurses get embedded into them as part of the military training we go through (Happell et al., 2013, p. 644). Nurses need to realize that they are only hurting themselves and the patients they think they are helping by not taking breaks. Leaders play a role in helping identify the issue and using management skills to guide the unit into a healthier and more positive mindset (Brunges Foley Brinza, 2014). Communication To assess if there is a problem with the current setup, nurse managers and leaders can try to gauge employee satisfaction with surveys. If nurses indicate a problem with not getting their entitled break, then action should be taken. Communication is key so meetings can be called to try to brainstorm what the problem is i.e. are there too many patients or is there not enough coverage? Communication should be encouraged and suggestions and problems be brought to management attention. This can be stimulated with monthly unit meetings, having an open door policy, or even a suggestion box. However the best type of communication is face to face so the matter can be discussed and clarifications can be made without ...
