Erne Gruwell Freedom Writers Response

Kimberly O Hara
Freedom Writers Response Paper Erin Gruwell was a young English teacher in an often volatile inner
city school in Long Beach, California, when a racial incident occurred in her classroom. Despite the
potential risk involved in confronting this type of conflict, Gruwell used the situation to create an
ongoing dialogue among her students, many of whom were plagued by violence, poverty, and despair
in their own lives and neighborhoods, and were in turn, at odds with one another. Recognizing in this
incident a teachable moment, Gruwell challenged her students in a way that they had never been
challenged before.

Jermaine Lamarr Cole Essay
On January 28, 1985 Jermaine Lamarr Cole was born in Frankfurt Germany. Better known as J. Cole,
he s become one of the biggest rappers in the game alongside Kendrick Lamar and Drake. As much as
it seems like I criticize Cole, over the years he turned into one of my favorite all time rappers. To
celebrate the Birthday of J. Cole, I wanted to take the time and look back on the projects he provided
for listeners. In my humble opinion, here is the order in which I rank his projects. These are my views
only, and doesn t reflect the opinions of the other moboombox members. (Excluding EP s and
compilation albums)
#7: Born Sinner (2013)
While I wont necessarily say that Born Sinner was a bad album, to me it was definitely his lowest
point. The album was dark, slow, and I hate to say it but boring in a way. Land of the Snakes and
Chaining Day are forgettable songs, and I m still disappointed we only received a Kendrick Lamar
hook on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ve been on the record multiple times saying that I believe this album was better than TPAB and
should have won at least one Grammy. Unlike 4 Your Eyez Only , this was a concept album in which
you can actually enjoy listening to. The way the album goes from his birth, to his awkward teenage
years, to ultimately signing a record deal was done flawlessly. He didn t have a traditional radio record
which didn t stop him from getting radio spins. Fire Squad was so good it made me look at two of my
favorite musicians in Justin Timberlake and Eminem funny for a few weeks. This album can be played
at any time and I still get excited two years later whenever it comes on. This was the album in which I
can say that Cole figured it out. A full album of lyrics which at the same time is catchy and easy to
listen to. You didn t need a certain level of inteligence to enjoy this album and on top of that, he went
double platinum with no

The Association Between Parenting And Its Effect On Child...
Now that the association between parenting and its effect on child behavior is made relative, we can
take a look at negative parenting styles and its association with delinquency. Wilma Smeenk, and Jan
Gerris have done an analysis that associated parenting with delinquency. This analysis was able to link
parental monitoring, psychological control, and negative aspects of support like rejection and hostility.
The demographic was divided by parent and child gender, child age, informant on parenting, and
delinquency type.
Parenting dimensions have been proposed by two dimensions, support and control. These dimensions
are used to analyze the quality of parenting behaviors. The support dimension refers to parenting
towards children that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Authoritarian control is more directed to adult oriented, restricted, and firm discipline techniques. It
emphasizes the negative aspect of control like harsh punishment and rejection. Authoritative control
has positive effects on child behavior unlike authoritarian control which has been found to have
negative effects on the children.
Males appear to participate in more delinquent behaviors than females do. One ideas shows that males
may be vulnerable to risk factors for delinquency because of sub par parenting. Another idea is that
delinquency is the same for males and females, but boys are more exposed to to opportunities for
delinquency than females. In addition to child gender, the gender of the parent also plays a role. The
link between fathers parenting and mothers parenting to a child s delinquency can be different. The
amount of time a father and mother spends with their child is not the same.
The study suggests that the differences between the link between delinquency and paternal and
maternal parenting, a fathers supportive behavior was more strongly related to delinquency than
mothers support. In order to analyze whether the same sex between parents and child influenced
delinquent behavior the study broke up subjects by fathers sons and mothers daughters, and fathers
daughters and mothers sons The link

Essay on Gynecology
The purpose of this research paper is to investigate various areas concerning my future career, that is
to be an obstetrician, also known as an OB/GYN. Some of the topics that will be discussed in my
paper are those pertaining to exactly what an obstetrician is and the requirements that are needed in
order to become an obstetrition. These requirements will include the pyhsical and phsyschological
personality traits of a potential obstetrician. The type of schooling that is nessecary, including the

In order to obtain a job in the field of obstetrics, one must first successfully recieve a bachelor s
degree, a doctrine, and than be certified by the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. However,
different rules apply to those who have been practicing for a period of time. Gedes Grudzinskas stated
that: quot;If certified in obstetrics and gynecology after 1986, the physician must complete a
recertification process every 10 years to maintain certified status. If certified before 1986, the
physician can take a voluntary recertification process quot; (508).
Although medical schools are not solely interested in science majors, it is important that the student
take the required courses in order to gain acceptance into medical school upon recieving a Bachelor s
degree. Many pre med students study vigourously and maintain grade point averages of 3.5 and above.
However, due to the many hours that are put into school work, the number of pre med students drops
drastically during the last two years of college in which preperation for the MCAT (Medical College
Admission Test) begin. The scores on the MCAT will determine if there is any chance of being

Case Study On Hummus
5 Things To Consider Before Purchasing Hummus
Hummus is a celebrated health food and for good reason! When prepared correctly, the satisfying
spread (or meal) contains fiber, minerals, protein, calcium, carbohydrates, and other benefits.
Traditional recipes call for soaked, dry chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and a little bit of olive
oil. Nothing beats a bowl of fresh homemade hummus, but we don t always have the time to prepare
the crowd pleasing dish in advance. While there are plenty of healthy alternatives like Hummustir not
all store bought brands deliver on the heart healthy promise. Before spending your cash on the dip, be
sure to look for these five things that prove not all hummus is created equal.
Ingredients
Just because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Processed foods contain extra amounts of sodium so the package stay fresh for a greater amount of
time, but if you re watching your sodium levels this could present an issue. Purchase recipes that have
less sodium (around 30 50 mg per serving) and forgo options that will cause your body to retain water
and make you feel bloated. Not all hummus is created equally, so spend some extra time looking into
exactly how much added sodium went into the mix. Your body will thank you.
Hidden Calories
Hummus can be relatively low calorie, like this 45 calorie option, or it can be full of unhealthy oils
that increase the calorie count tremendously. Stick to items that exclude added ingredients and focus
on picking products that have a shorter ingredients list, and use only healthy fats like tahini or olive oil
and fresh ingredients. There are dozens of hummus brands that boast about their healthy product, but
don t deliver on their promise. Do your research and know ahead of time which brands are the most
reliable and free of hidden calories, additives, and unnecessary ingredients.

Coretta Scott King Speech
Coretta Scott King said Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation. I
agree with King for a few reasons. Many people might just not even remember their rights. Your rights
may also even be stolen by someone. Freedom is always taken away, but you can get your rights and
freedom back by doing something outstanding. Freedom to me is being able to do whatever you want
that is reasonable. If you do something that is not reasonable your freedom may be taken away. You
can earn your rights back, but they can still be taken away again. If you do not break the laws you will
get more rights. Even though you may get more they rights they can still be taken away, if you break
the law. Secondly, you might not even remember

Track Research Papers
The first modern Olympics was held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The first foot races were held at this
event. We now refer to these exciting races as track. The races consist of sprinters, middle distance,
and distance runners. The races can range from 100 meters all the way up to 10,000 meters. All of
these runners have different jobs and roles on their teams. A great deal of precise and dedicated
training goes into their workouts. Despite the distance they run, track runners are extremely hard
workers. One type of runner in track is the sprinter. The original Olympic event know as the stadion
race, was a sprint of around 180 meters. Now there are generally three different sprint distances. These
consists of the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 400 meter dash. Most elite level sprinters train about 20
hours a week for races that are just seconds long. They have to train on the track, in the weight room,
and in the kitchen. Michael Johnson and Tyson Gay are two very talented runners that ran for USA.
The greatest sprinter of all time is a Jamaican runners named Usain Bolt. Usain Bolt is considered a
legend on the track. He has been to 4 olympic games, where he collected 8 medals, all ... Show more

Long distance events in track include the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races. Many people consider the
long distance runners to be the hardest workers of the three types of runners. A typical week for a
distance runner like Galen Rupp consists of running up to 135 miles per week. This is done with no
rest days and two sessions every day. Long distance runners lose gallons of sweat every week, so
staying hydrated is very important. Mohamed, Mo, Farah is the most famous distance runner in the
world currently. He was born in Somalia, but he runs competitively for Great Britain. Mo has four
gold medals from two different Olympics, making him the most successful British track athlete ever.

Dover Beach Poem By George Orwell
The poem, Dover Beach, written by Matthew Arnold, tells us a tragic story. The poem describes the
change from old world to the new, it elaborates how lonely it can really be in the modern world.
Arnold, tackles the rough stuff in life, like war, suffering, loss of belief and loneliness. Now, the novel
1984, written by George Orwell, warns us about totalitarianism. The novel describes a state with little
privacy and your mind and actions are all monitored. Orwell, showcases many struggles in life, to
mention some are, power, warfare, rebellion and repression. While Orwell could have got the
motivation from everyday life, I believe Orwell used Dover Beach as a stimulus to write 1984 because
at times we find ourselves isolation from the world, warfare is a part of us, we grow up with it
surrounding us and the belief of faith, of religion is decreasing in the world.

The consist reminder of such warfare keeps an instilment of fear isolating through our minds. Arnold,
mentions a line in Dover Beach, and we are here as on a darkling plain swept with confused alarms of
struggle and flight, where ignorant armies clash by night (Arnold, 35,36 37). Arnold sees life ahead as
a continual battle against the darkness, with this line he paints a violent imagery of a battlefield, this
gives an empathic, distorted feeling to the end of the poem. Orwell, uses the darkness and violent
imagery of the battlefield when he wrote, the consciousness of being at war, and therefore in danger
makes the handing over of all power to a small caste seem natural, unavoidable condition of survival
(part 2, chapter 9, page 192). Orwell, viewed the darkness of knowing you are at war, knowing you
are in danger and you are desperate for protection. As danger arises, this small caste , government
officials, provide said protection, only if we simple hand over all power for our

Healthcare in Under-Developed Countries
Healthcare in Under Developed Countries
The author of this response is asked to answer for and to a series of questions related to healthcare
providing and availability in under developed countries. The author will explain, in order, responses to
the question of what the challenges are in under developed countries, will speak to research generated
strategies about how to address those challenges, and will offer strategies for how a nurse can
advocate for health care at the global level. The assignment asks whether one nurse can make a
difference and the answer to that is certainly in the affirmative.
Challenges in Under Developed Nations
There are number of factors that make healthcare in certain nations difficult to impossible to keep
fluid and proper for the citizenry involved. There are obvious examples like locations and amounts
hospitals and doctor offices but there are also other major examples that some people gloss over or
miss entirely. One example is countries or area that are lacking in infrastructure including roads,
plumbing and supply delivery lifelines. Another example would be a dearth in qualified nurses and
doctors due to circumstances like sub standard schools and colleges, presuming they are even present
in the first place. Yet another example would be government graft and incompetence further bungling
or sabotaging the process whereby the government should be helping the healthcare system of their
people rather than harming it based on corruption or

Literary Argument On Willy Loman From Death Of A Salesman
Researched Literary Argument on Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman
Death of a Salesman by the author Arthur Miller revolves around one family and the troubles they are
facing due to growing older and becoming senile. Willy Loman was born on May 13, 1889, and in
1949 when the story is set, he was 60, this is during post WW1 America, this was a different time with
different social cues and norms that will be evident throughout the story. Willy s ambition is to take
part in the American dream and strike it rich by the sweat of his own brow. The kind of success Willy
is looking for is not merely being able to provide for his family but having people know who he was
what he was about and what a great character he had. Once Willy starts lacking the success he is used
to he becomes disconnected with the world and this is when his senile tendencies start to show these
things hint at a deeper medical problem; things like having flashbacks to when he was happy and
satisfied with his performance and the still unsquandered potential of his progeny.
At a certain point in life once you ve been beaten down and stepped on you will reach rock bottom,
although not enjoyable, once there the only progression is an improvement to your current situation.
Willy has a hard time facing the music and accepting what is inevitable. this manifests itself in the
story through willy s inability to stay grounded in what s happening in the current moment, his mind
always wandering to a time in which

Youth Disengagement Essay
Disengaged Youth and Mainstream school In modern societies, the life experiences of young people
have changed significantly over the past years. These changes have a major affect on relationships
with family and friends, experiences in education, labor market, lifestyle and the ability to become
independent young adults (Furlong Cartmel, 1997). This research paper will focus on youth
disengagement and its relation to mainstream school. Disengaged youth are individual s aged between
14 24 years old, who are not actively engaged in school or the workforce (Hanley, Nabi, Bean, Radday
Stanzler, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to analyse youth disengagement and mainstream school
and to reflect critically on the impact of the macro system on the development of series and programs
within a rage of communities, using current research, reports, and theory to be able to make
recommendations for practice. Literature Review Disengaged Youth Disengagement is often linked to
the individual s values, attitudes and competencies; however, youth disengagement is also influenced

linking these discussions to contemporary theoretical debates in the social sciences. It was established
that risk factors and processes of disengagement and process of exclusion is evident across multiple
domains. An example of this would be if a young person were disengaged from school, work, family

Movement and Stasis in the Divine Comedy Essay
Movement and Stasis : The use of dynamics in the Divine Comedy
Movement is a crucial theme of the Divine Comedy. From the outset, we are confronted with the
physicality of the lost Dante, wandering in the perilous dark wood. His movement within the strange
place is confused and faltering; `Io non so ben ridir com io v entrai . Moreover, it is clear that the
physical distress he is experiencing is the visible manifestation of the mental anguish the poet is
suffering. The allegory of the image is one of mid life crisis, but it is physically represented by the
man losing his way in a dark wood. Such an observation may seem far too simple and obvious to be
worthy of comment. However, I would argue that it is from this primary example ... Show more

The first passage is probably the most famous in the whole work, that of Francesca da Rimini, in
Canto V of the Inferno . Condemned for her inconstancy, that is to say her lust, Francesca is contained
in the eternal whirlwind of the `bufera infernale , alongside her lover, Paolo. In a clear parallel to her
sin, she is buffeted by the inconstant wind. Although unceasing, the wind changes direction and force,
a movement which is mirrored by the language used to describe it:
Di qua, di l #224;, di gi #249;, di su li mena;
nulla speranza li conforta mai,
non che di posa, ma minor pena.
(43 45, Canto V, Inf.)
In addition to the basic rhyme of the terza rima, the internal rhyme is carefully manipulated to imitate
phonologically the swirling of the wind. By balancing the repeated [a] of `di qua, di la with the [u:] of
the `di gi #249;, di su , Dante is able to mimic the up and down movement of the air.
Francesca, then, is an extremely `mobile sinner. Although pausing to speak to Dante (the significance
of which will be later discussed), she is compelled to move indeed, it is an integral part of her
punishment. This compulsion is significant. Through rejecting a life of constancy on earth, whether
willingly or otherwise, Francesca has sacrificed the free will she was allowed to exert on her body.
Having lost control of herself in life she is plunged into the chaos of the `bufera . Her punishment
then, is not merely an

Thematic Progression
In order to understand the relationship between the singular servant and the plural servants, we first
will discuss briefly the thematic development of the servant motif within its larger literary context of
Isaiah 40 53. Second, we will investigate the role of the
84
suffering servant and his rewards in 52:13 53:12. Then we will examine 54:11 17, in which appears
the theme of the servants and inheritance.
The larger literary block of Isaiah 40 55 is subdivided into two sections, chapters 40 48 and 49 55,
according to the distinctive thematic emphasis embodied in a different literary structure. On the one
hand, Isaiah 40 48 primarily deals with the vanity of idol worship (40:19, 20; 41:7; 42:17; 44:10, 12,

The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my
opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability
to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many
endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria,
I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently
ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of
congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to
perform experiments made many students cluster together in the lab to make use of the few available
resources. I took on an executive position in my departmental students association in an effort to
address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate
students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our
departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested
improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In
this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I
presented workshops on software, like MATLAB and HYSYS, to over 50 students to help them

The Next Three Years Performance
In the research, the next three years performance is estimated by different stage. Generally speaking,
the first stage will be only the next year 2016, which is basic on the average historical performance.
The second stage will be 2017 and 2018, the growth is assumed to keep about 9.6 % per year. In
addition, all the figures in this part are calculated by Danish Kroner.
Basic on the last five years income statement, sales in Novo Nordisk will increase from DKK 107927
million in 2015 to DKK 134004 million in 2018. However, the operating profit might decrease from
2015 and the operating margin will also decrease relatively. On the other hand, the net income and net
margin will rise to DKK 46900 million during the future three years. This is because the operating

The Importance Of Parent And Family Involvement In Education
There are many issues discussed when it comes to education including testing, school accountability,
teacher proficiency, and much more. There are many initiatives, programs, and reforms being
implemented to try to improve education outcomes for students. While the school, administration, and
teachers are an important part of student education, there is also another vital item needed to
encourage and ensure student learning: parent or family involvement in their child s education.
There are countless positive associations between parent and family engagement and student academic
confidence and success. Many organizations, including the National Parent Teacher Alliance (PTA)
and Parents for Public Schools (PPS), work to encourage parents and families take on an active role in
supporting and reinforcing their child s education. The PTA website gives many parent guides to
support and direct engagement. Their guide Making Sure Your Child Gets the Education They
Deserve advises parents to have high expectations of school buildings and equipment as well as
initiate and maintain strong contact with their child s teacher (pta.org). The PPS websites gives similar
advice to parents and families stating, School success takes great leadership, effective teachers and
engaged parents. We believe that parents are an essential education partner from the moment their
children are born (2017).
Many families face obstacles to engaging and participating in their child s education

Shark Finning Is Killing Sharks
Are you scared of sharks? Well, there is approximately 5 human deaths, shark related each year, but
over 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans. Who should really be scared? Shark finning is
killing sharks and decreasing their populations to a level where they may never fully recover.
Causes for this are fishermen shark finning at a very high rate and for consumers being oblivious to

humans cutting off their fin, also known as shark finning to make a Chinese delicacy called shark fin

The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe
shark finning should not be banned and the environmentalists which believe shark finning should be

The Discovery Of Polio Vaccine Essay
In the early 1900s, scientists and medical personnel did not have an answer to poliomyelitis, otherwise
known as polio. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the
first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and
others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the
scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community,
and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly
after release. According to Naomi Rogers, Cutter Laboratories, one of the original mass producers of
Salk s polio vaccine, released many faulty vaccines which resulted in greatly diminishing Salk s
reputation:
Both Salk s and the Foundation s reputations were briefly tarnished by what became termed the Cutter
incident. Within fifteen days of Francis s April 1955 report, the Foundation s worst fears seemed to be
realized when cases of paralysis were reported among children who had received the vaccine. After
federal officials from the Communicable Disease Center established that these cases were the result of
vaccination from a batch prepared by Cutter Laboratories of Berkeley, California, Surgeon General
Leonard Scheele halted the vaccination program for a week. (Rogers 180)
The fears brought upon by the Cutter incident led to the rise of alternative research, in particular that

Destruction In Frankenstein
A heavily emphasized theme in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is science vs. nature or Destruction
against creation, as in the case of Frankenstein science and destruction seemingly go hand in hand.
The narrator, Victor Frankenstein, is a natural philosopher who is so fixated on the creation and
destruction of life that he devotes years to discovering a way to create life in inanimate objects. Once
Frankenstein accomplishes this feat, he has, in a sense, upset the balance of nature. In creating this one
unnatural life, Frankenstein also destroys the lives of others. It is no coincidence that Frankenstein
becomes ill as he works on creating this unnatural life. He explains that the fever and nervousness that
plagued him every night was a disease that I regretted the more because I had hitherto enjoyed most
excellent health.. (Shelley 83). Although he normally does not get sick often, Frankenstein repeatedly
falls ill while working on this project. One could suggest that Frankensteins failing health is natures
way of trying to lead him away from the un natural life he is Creating. Creating life in such a scientific
manner is unnatural and could potentially have consequences, which it does later on in the story and

life to an inanimate object actually drains the life out of Frankenstein himself. As Frankenstein creates

The Construction Industry Has Developed A Reputation For...
Ethics Paper Over the years the construction industry has developed a reputation for shady deals and
untrustworthiness. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the industry and
the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors though there is
still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often times contractors
bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable positions. And after that
subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable sub contracts. However, not
all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific clauses that are inserted in an
attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and sub subcontractors. Conditional
payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of clauses that attempt to do such work.
Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect the contractor and owner from each other
with regard to change orders, it is included to force each party to put changes into writing. For the
most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes must be made. So contractors and owners
find themselves in yet another situation where both sides have the opportunity to be as unsavory as
they can be. As the industry progresses into the future, many additional contract clauses will pop up.

Character Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat
Nirmalsinh Darbar Dr. Leanne Groeneveld English 100 06 November 2017 Edgar Allan Poe s The
Black Cat An unnamed narrator is describing the story. The narrator in the story is first person who is
a male. We know the narrator is a first person because he uses pronouns like I, and me. So, the
narrator is obviously a first person narrator and he is also the focalizing character because he is talking
about things that he did or things happened to him, rather than things he watched or heard about. Thus
we are encouraged to experience the events of the story on basis of description by the narrator because
no person can tell lie when he know he is going to die soon as the narrator was going to be hanged the

Pros And Cons Of Homosexuals In The Military

community were in the Military. Even though there was a Don t Ask Don t Tell policy as so known as
the DADT that was put in place in 1993 by President Bill Clinton. President Bill Clinton and gay
rights activists thought that the policy was a great idea, but it wasn t. It actually took them awhile to
figure out just how bad it really was. The reason why the Don t Ask Don t Tell policy President Bill
Clinton passed in 1933 didn t work is because of the fact that homosexuals that served in the military
were not allowed to talk about their sexual preference or have any type of sexual activity, and
commanding officers were not allowed to question service members about their sexual preference.

The Heart And The Heart Of The Human Heart
The human heart is the one organ that powers the entire body. Without it we wouldn t be able to do the
simplest functions. Simple things like talking, walking, and even breathing relies on the heart
pumping. Pumping blood into all the different parts of the body allows the circulatory system to
supply oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide and other wastes.
The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s circulatory
pump. There are four chambers that make up the heart. The upper chambers are called the atrium and
the lower chambers are the ventricle. A wall of muscle called the septum separates the two sides of the
heart. Attached to each chamber is a valve. The valves open and close to let the blood flow in only one
direction. These valves are actual flaps that are located on each end of the two ventricles. The right
side of the heart is responsible for taking all the deprived oxygen blood and making it rich again. The
left side pumps all the oxygenated blood out into the rest of the body.
All the great things the heart does for the body and it only takes one wrong thing to happen to the
heart to affect the entire body. Heart attacks is the leading enemy against the heart, it affects more than
a million Americans each year. The heart needs a constant supply of oxygen rich blood to nourish it.
The coronary arteries provide the heart with oxygen supply. The body produces Calcium, fatty matter,
proteins, and

Many people feel the issue on immigration and birthright citizenship may have become a touchy

States of America with the assumption they will grant US citizenship to them as a family. In certain
states the police were allowed to stop anyone that they felt to not hold US citizenship just by looking

If the situation were turned around the feeling of confusion and alienation would hurt so much to think
about how a person thinks what we look like, and possibly become scared of what someone could do
if they found out that the person is undocumented.
Arizona made it tougher for undocumented citizen by making a federal law called the Arizona Senate
Bill 1070. The controversial bill gives Arizona law enforcement the authority to stop people whom
officers have reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally, detain these individuals while
verifying immigration status, and arrest undocumented immigrants for transfer to ICE custody.
(McFadyen) The article also states The bill, also known as the Support Our Law Enforcement and
Safe Neighborhoods Act also makes it a crime to be in the state illegally and to provide transportation
to someone you know is undocumented. (McFadyen) With that said, it seems to me, it gives the police
in Arizona authority to stop anyone they feel like. It also touches on the subject of racial profiling and
discrimination just by the way a person looks making it ok to stop them. Furthermore, by making this
bill it says that it is ok to look at someone and judge them for what they look like.

rightful American citizens, making it harder for people to find a job. But at the same time the

The Unknown Citizen Auden
In the late 1930s, many countries struggled politically and economically because of the governments
that rose up after the first world war. Though at first the United States prospered after the war, they
soon fell into the Great Depression. To some Americans, the government s attempts to alleviate their
financial struggles made their situation worse. They viewed the government as an overbearing,
controlling body that needed reform. One poem written in 1939 showcases this opinion through a
satirical story of a state official praising a citizen who died. W. H. Auden s The Unknown Citizen
criticizes the government for not truly caring about its people.
The government commends its citizens only when they do not interfere with the state s agenda. In this
poem, one specific man is what the state considers an ideal citizen, so they build a monument for him
after he dies. The words of this poem are their tribute to this citizen for his respectable life. Their ideal
citizen, though, is one who blindly follows their rules; for example, they check all the reports on his
conduct and call him a saint because they see no official complaints against him (line 4). They also
say he had the proper opinions for the time of year (23). Basically, they are happy that his opinions
matched theirs, whether it be in politics, education, or war. The last line of the poem neatly
summarizes the government s motives. The speaker of the poem says, Had anything been wrong, we

Since the dawn of history, volcanoes have been an awe inspiring feature of the earth that has
frightened and intrigued mankind. Volcanoes have taken the lives of over 250,000 people in the last
three hundred years and changed the lives of millions of others, but up until recently humans have had
very little understanding of the volcanic processes that presage an eruption. The advent and

The graph to the right displays the number of earthquakes in the months leading up to three eruptions
that occurred on June 27, August 18, and September 16 17 of 1992 at Mt. Spurr, located 80 miles west
of Anchorage, Alaska. The vertical red lines indicate the eruptions. The graph shows that there was an
erratic but visible increase in the frequency of seismic activity leading up to the first eruption. It also
shows that the second and third eruptions were not preceded by a marked increase in seismic activity,
and that during two weeks following the last eruption in November and December, a large frequency
of earthquakes took place without an eruption occurring afterwards. This illustrates how difficult it
can be to predict when an eruption is likely to take place and underscores the importance of using
several methods concurrently to predict volcanism.
Monitoring ground deformation in the vicinity of a volcano is another valuable tool for understanding
what s going on underground. When magma rises, it often causes the rock above it to deform or uplift
in the form of a dome, and these domes indicate activity below the surface that could be a warning
sign of an eruption. One of the most dramatic occurrences of uplift occurred prior to the Mt. St.
Helens eruption of 1980 when the volcano s north side bulged out over 100 meters in only two
months. Scientists and technicians measure both horizontal and vertical ground

Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage
The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international
trade theory.
A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it can
produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares industry
productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an absolute
advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the existence of
reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods, there are
obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to those
countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively
efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that
Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export
surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantage is considered a different
story emerges.
Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat
has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are foregone.
Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are foregone if
Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize.
Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of
maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of
maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of wheat.
In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses produce
should then be traded.
We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results from
the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute advantage is
quite intuitive.

The Benefits Of Arts Education In Schools
Living in the twenty first century, everywhere and everything is influenced by art. From local
advertisement posters to world wide famous sculptures, art is always playing a role. Unfortunately, art
education fundings for schools have recently dropped by 50 70% (D Amico). Because of this decrease,
it could be detrimental to students by stripping them of their knowledge on arts. In schools, art has a
huge part in giving students all their needs in order to succeed in their future lives. Arts education
benefits students by three major ways: teaching good habits and skills, promoting knowledge on
human creativity, and letting them express themselves through their artwork. Not only that, but
students overall tend to do better on their schoolwork while being involved in arts education. Art is
very broad when it comes to it s many forms, including: art literature, photography, music, dance,
painting, and sculpting. Considering all, think about the different things that students can pick up from
each category. From a single art class, students have the opportunity to learn a variety of superior
habits and skills that could be very essential to their future selves. In a 2014 article, it informs that
most arts require concentration, patience, and perseverance and as such there is a real sense of
accomplishment that accompanies completing activity as a child has worked on, ( The Benefits of Arts

The new findings help better understand the cardiac development and effect on clinical care for
patients with CHD. In general, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a complex disease; no one single gene
mutation is responsible for it. Therefore a new genome wide association study (GWAS) was launched
to investigate a wide range of genes that is associated with the CVD.
Genome Wide associated Study is a study involving hundreds of thousands of single nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNPs) to be examined in relation to diseases in hundreds of thousands of subjects.
GWAS studies compare the DNA of various subjects having different phenotypes of a specific disease,
to the control subjects in order to identify the genome associated with the disease. Another way to run
GWAS studies is by collecting thousands of hundreds of DNA samples. Using SNPs arrays genetic
variants are read, if one variant has a higher frequency in subjects with a specific disease, which
reveals that this genetic variant is linked to the disease.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Controlled Release
Figure. No.4: Plasma concentration vs time profile of a controlled release form.
 This means that they are actually controlling the drug concentration in the body, not just the release
of the drug from the dosage form, as is the case in a sustained release system.
 Another difference between sustained and controlled release is that the former are basically
restricted to oral dosage forms while controlled release systems are used in routes like transdermal,
oral and vaginal administration.
 Periodic administration of a drug by conventional means, such as taking a tablet every four hours,
can result in constantly changing systemic drug concentrations with alternating periods of
ineffectiveness and toxicity. Controlled release systems attempt to maintain a therapeutic
concentration of a drug in the body for an extended time by controlling the rate of delivery of the
drug.
 Controlled release systems are not necessarily target specific, which means that they do not
exclusively deliver the drug to the target organ. This may be achieved by so called targeted delivery
systems which aim to exploit the characteristics of the drug carrier and the drug target to control the
bio distribution of the drug.

Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the arrival of
Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases, violence and
dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the Native Americans
was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox, measles and influenza.
This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight these diseases as they did
not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic diseases and started dying
quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Thus, within a century, diseases
have reduced indigenous populations by as much as 95% making matters worse. The Epidemic took
years to exhaust itself and may have killed 90% of the people in coastal New England. This made a
huge difference to American History. (Mann, 1491) The drastic death of so many Native Americans
decimated the supply of labors who were working under the Europeans in the Americas. One of the
reasons for death was that most Native Americans were not experienced for many bacterial diseases
so, they had little or no knowledge on how to combat them. The practice where family and friends

Student Dropout Essay
At what age do you think a student should be able to dropout of high school? Have you ever thought
about dropping out? If so, what made you want to dropout? What circumstances were needed for you
to dropout? Even though there are certain reasons why students should not dropout, the student is old
enough to make that decision and he/she would know most of what they need to at the age of 17.
Raising the age for student dropouts/student graduation does not always stop students from dropping
out. Source two states that Raising the age for exiting pre graduation may not stop all dropouts . This
statement shows that even though the students have dropped out they do not care for graduation.
Source two also says In general, the legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Source four also states They also have created several pathways to graduation, so there s more than
one way to succeed. This quote tells the readers that you could drop out, and still find a efficient way
to graduate or succeed. Some argue that students should stay in school until the age of 18 because it
will get them more benefits. According to the U.S Department of Education, high school diploma
degree students have an income of $27,380 a year. The U.S Department of Education also says that
high school dropouts have a yearly income of $19,540. This shows the comparison between the
incomes. This is a benefit for students that finish high school and graduate they get more yearly
income. Source 4 states that Those without a high school diploma have lower earnings, higher
unemployment, lower job satisfaction they even have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail or on
public assistance. This statement from the source implies that students that drop out will most likely
end up in trouble. Letting the students drop out at the age of 17 is a better choice than forcing them to
stay in school because school is not for everyone. Some students will slip off in school because they
do not want to be there, so they are not going to try to succeed. Kids that are forced to stay in school
could cause problems for other student as well as teachers. The decision to keep these students in
could cause a negative impact instead of a positive. In conclusion,

A History of World in Six Glasses Essay
A History of the Word in Six Glasses Beer in Mesopotamia and Egypt (Chapter 1 and 2) How might
beer have influenced the transition from hunting and gathering to agricultural based societies. Beer
might have/had influenced the transition from hunting and gathering to agricultural based societies.
One way beer could have done this was that after the discovery of beer, the demand for beer began to
increase. With increase demand for beer, farming would increase taking away time to hunt and gather
for food. With less hunting and gathering, farmers eventually settled down in small areas around the
Fertile Crescent to create beer. What does the story of beer tell you about social and gender roles in
ancient SW Asia and Egypt? Beer can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The better wine you drank, meant the more money you made to purchase the wine, thus creating your
caste in society. What effects does wine have on the development of Christianity and Islam? The
banning of wine in Islamic culture would be the basic start for the banning of many other foods. The
prophet Muhammad s ban on alcohol is said to have started from a fight between two men who were
under the influence. When Muhammad sought divine help from the one and only Allah, Allah s reply
was to ban alcohol so that such a thing could not happen again. As for wine, it had a different story for
the development of Christianity. Wine drinking was a tradition of Greeks and Romans. When
barbarians took over Rome and Greece, wine drinking seemed to have halted. But as time went on,
barbarians began to take up wine drinking again, sort of assimilating themselves into Greek culture.
Barbarians soon became civilized, all thanks to the tradition of wine drinking. Spirits in the Colonial
Period (Chapters 5 and 6) How did spirits advance/accelerated colonialism? When the Americas were
just beginning to form, spirits accelerated their colonialism. At first, sugarcane production was
introduced to the Western Indies or Caribbean Islands by Christopher Columbus. The West Indies land
was not suitable to grow wine vines or grains for beer, instead Columbus introduced sugar canes to the
Indies, creating a major sugar plantation in the West

To What Extent Was William Shakespeare A Renaissance Man
What s a Renaissance Man? A Renaissance Man is someone who has a wide range of knowledge and
extraordinary talents compared to the average person. William Shakespeare is a very talented and
knowledgeable person who that used his writing for more than just satisfying the reader. His expertise
in multiple languages, including greek and latin, allowed him to do many things. He s also a very
talented playwrighter with universal techniques. He also brought the classics to life from where as
they would have been forgotten and lost in history. William Shakespeare is one of history s greatest
Renaissance Men and has yet to fail at bewildering the modern linguistics.

He had the knowledge to read and write in Greek and Latin. He frequently brought these languages
into his plays and other writings. He embedded an enormously important new wealth to the history of
literature: he helped to popularize and retain many of the classical stories and traditions. (Document 5)
You could say that William Shakespeare wasn t a Renaissance man because he lacked originality. He
might be known to take ideas or you could say he writes from his own perspective. Shakespeare has
an emptiness in his philosophy too. This all could be proved wrong though because Shakespeare
brought many pieces of literature back to life such as classics. Also, he ultimately has set the bar for
literature and even made his own writing styles such as a sonnet. Without his help may have shriveled
from public recognition altogether in English (Document 5).
William Shakespeare is a Renaissance Man because of his ability to change the course of literature
and bring us classical stories that possibly could have been lost in time never to be heard of again. The
future without him would be very bland almost. There would be far less writing styles, and also, the
amount of classical literature would be limited because of him not being there to bring it back. He
never failed to astound his audience for he was the father of

HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW March April 2000
N THE BATTLE TO CAPTURE THE CUSTOMER,
companies use a wide range of tactics to ward off competitors. Increasingly, price is the weapon of
choice and frequently the skirmishing degenerates into a price war. Creating low price appeal is often
the goal, hut the result of one retaliatory price slashing after another is often a precipitous decline in
industry profits. Look at the airline price wars of r992. When American Airlines, ... Show more

By understanding their causes and characteristics, managers can make sensihle decisions about when
and how to fight a price war, when to flee one and even when to start one. The first step, then, is
diagnosis. Consider a small commodities supplier that suddenly found that its largest competitor had
slashed prices to a level well below the small company s costs. One option the smaller company
considered was to lower its price in a tit for tat move. But that price would have heen below the
suppher s marginal cost; it would have suffered debilitating losses. Fortunately, a few phone calls
revealed that its adversary was attempting to drive the supplier out of the local market by underpricing
its products locally but maintaining high prices elsewhere. The supplier correctly diagnosed the
pricing move as predatory and elected to do two things. First, the manager called customers in the
competitor s home market to let them know that the price cutter was offering special deals in another
market. Second, he called local customers

Drake Equation Research Paper
The Drake Equation is used to estimate of the rate at which stars are born in the galaxy, the fraction of
stars with planets, and the fraction of those planets on which life could originate, and so on. Although,
by those calculations, there should be about 10,000 civilizations in our galaxy capable of interstellar
communication. So, where are all the aliens? Extraterrestrial intelligence must exist somewhere in the
universe, but we might not be able to communicate with each other because of complications such as
different forms of communication, huge distances between each other, and/or they don t want to talk
back.

It s reasonable to assume that how we re trying to communicate with possible extraterrestrial
intelligence may not be how they communicate, resulting in us believing no one is listening. It is
possible that our means of communication are primitive in comparison, and that our logic may be
vastly different than theirs. For example, if you were to send morse code in the hopes of someone
responding, it s mostly that no one is going to respond, let alone even notice it. Secondly, we may
have not been looking in the right places either. A prime reason for this is that we really don t know
where to look in the first place. We have ideas, but nothing concrete whatsoever. Another reason may
just be that we haven t had enough time yet, as we can only send messages so quickly, in so many
different directions to cover a possible infinite space across the

Daugherty Case Summary
On Friday, December 16, 2016, at 5:40 PM, Officers Patrick Daugherty and Frank Miller were
working a uniformed assignment in cruiser 9022, and were dispatched to 1464 E. 26th Ave., on a
report of a 10 34, involving an individual who was possibly deceased in the backyard of the residence.
While driving to the location, Officers Daugherty and Miller received information from radio,
indicating the caller s husband was cold to the touch, not breathing, and had possibly been attacked by
their dog.
Upon arrival, Officers Miller and Daugherty made contact with the caller, Louise Hall, who refused to
secure the dog, but advised Officers Miller and Daugherty the dog was caught along the fence in the
back yard. Once in the back yard, Officers Miller and Daugherty located the victim, Mervin Garland

Erne Gruwell Freedom Writers Response Rebecca Ochoa 8/5/2015 Kimberly O Hara Freedom Writers Response Paper Erin Gruwell was a young English teacher in an often volatile inner city school in Long Beach, California, when a racial incident occurred in her classroom. Despite the potential risk involved in confronting this type of conflict, Gruwell used the situation to create an ongoing dialogue among her students, many of whom were plagued by violence, poverty, and despair in their own lives and neighborhoods, and were in turn, at odds with one another. As much as it seems like I criticize Cole, over the years he turned into one of my favorite all time rappers. To celebrate the Birthday of J. This analysis was able to link parental monitoring, psychological control, and negative aspects of support like rejection and hostility. Authoritative control has positive effects on child behavior unlike authoritarian control which has been found to have negative effects on the children. Males appear to participate in more delinquent behaviors than females do. One ideas shows that males may be vulnerable to risk factors for delinquency because of sub par parenting. Another idea is that delinquency is the same for males and females, but boys are more exposed to to opportunities for delinquency than females. In addition to child gender, the gender of the parent also plays a role. The link between fathers parenting and mothers parenting to a child s delinquency can be different. The amount of time a father and mother spends with their child is not the same. The races consist of sprinters, middle distance, and distance runners. The races can range from 100 meters all the way up to 10,000 meters. All of these runners have different jobs and roles on their teams. A great deal of precise and dedicated training goes into their workouts. Despite the distance they run, track runners are extremely hard workers. One type of runner in track is the sprinter. The original Olympic event know as the stadion race, was a sprint of around 180 meters. Now there are generally three different sprint distances. These consists of the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 400 meter dash. Most elite level sprinters train about 20 hours a week for races that are just seconds long. The poem describes the change from old world to the new, it elaborates how lonely it can really be in the modern world. Arnold, tackles the rough stuff in life, like war, suffering, loss of belief and loneliness. Now, the novel 1984, written by George Orwell, warns us about totalitarianism. The novel describes a state with little privacy and your mind and actions are all monitored. Orwell, showcases many struggles in life, to mention some are, power, warfare, rebellion and repression. While Orwell could have got the motivation from everyday life, I believe Orwell used Dover Beach as a stimulus to write 1984 because at times we find ourselves isolation from the world, warfare is a part of us, we grow up with it surrounding us and the belief of faith, of religion is decreasing in the world. Literary Argument On Willy Loman From Death Of A Salesman Researched Literary Argument on Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman Death of a Salesman by the author Arthur Miller revolves around one family and the troubles they are facing due to growing older and becoming senile. Willy Loman was born on May 13, 1889, and in 1949 when the story is set, he was 60, this is during post WW1 America, this was a different time with different social cues and norms that will be evident throughout the story. Willy s ambition is to take part in the American dream and strike it rich by the sweat of his own brow. The kind of success Willy is looking for is not merely being able to provide for his family but having people know who he was what he was about and what a great character he had. Once Willy starts lacking the success he is used to he becomes disconnected with the world and this is when his senile tendencies start to show these things hint at a deeper medical problem; things like having flashbacks to when he was happy and satisfied with his performance and the still unsquandered potential of his progeny. At a certain point in life once you ve been beaten down and stepped on you will reach rock bottom, although not enjoyable, once there the only progression is an improvement to your current situation. From the outset, we are confronted with the physicality of the lost Dante, wandering in the perilous dark wood. His movement within the strange place is confused and faltering; `Io non so ben ridir com io v entrai . Moreover, it is clear that the physical distress he is experiencing is the visible manifestation of the mental anguish the poet is suffering. The allegory of the image is one of mid life crisis, but it is physically represented by the man losing his way in a dark wood. The first passage is probably the most famous in the whole work, that of Francesca da Rimini, in Canto V of the Inferno . Condemned for her inconstancy, that is to say her lust, Francesca is contained in the eternal whirlwind of the `bufera infernale , alongside her lover, Paolo. In a clear parallel to her sin, she is buffeted by the inconstant wind. Although unceasing, the wind changes direction and force, a movement which is mirrored by the language used to describe it: Di qua, di l #224;, di gi #249;, di su li mena; nulla speranza li conforta mai, non che di posa, ma minor pena. (43 45, Canto V, Inf.) In addition to the basic rhyme of the terza rima, the internal rhyme is carefully manipulated to imitate phonologically the swirling of the wind. By balancing the repeated [a] of `di qua, di la with the [u:] of the `di gi #249;, di su , Dante is able to mimic the up and down movement of the air. Francesca, then, is an extremely `mobile sinner. Although pausing to speak to Dante (the significance of which will be later discussed), she is compelled to move indeed, it is an integral part of her punishment. This compulsion is significant. Through rejecting a life of constancy on earth, whether willingly or otherwise, Francesca has sacrificed the free will she was allowed to exert on her body. The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to perform experiments made many students cluster together in the lab to make use of the few available resources. I took on an executive position in my departmental students association in an effort to address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I presented workshops on software, like MATLAB and HYSYS, to over 50 students to help them complete their coursework. Later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Parent And Family Involvement In Education There are many issues discussed when it comes to education including testing, school accountability, teacher proficiency, and much more. There are many initiatives, programs, and reforms being implemented to try to improve education outcomes for students. While the school, administration, and teachers are an important part of student education, there is also another vital item needed to encourage and ensure student learning: parent or family involvement in their child s education. There are countless positive associations between parent and family engagement and student academic confidence and success. Many organizations, including the National Parent Teacher Alliance (PTA) and Parents for Public Schools (PPS), work to encourage parents and families take on an active role in supporting and reinforcing their child s education. The PTA website gives many parent guides to support and direct engagement. Their guide Making Sure Your Child Gets the Education They Deserve advises parents to have high expectations of school buildings and equipment as well as initiate and maintain strong contact with their child s teacher (pta.org). The PPS websites gives similar advice to parents and families stating, School success takes great leadership, effective teachers and engaged parents. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community, and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly after release. According to Naomi Rogers, Cutter Laboratories, one of the original mass producers of Salk s polio vaccine, released many faulty vaccines which resulted in greatly diminishing Salk s reputation: Both Salk s and the Foundation s reputations were briefly tarnished by what became termed the Cutter incident. Within fifteen days of Francis s April 1955 report, the Foundation s worst fears seemed to be realized when cases of paralysis were reported among children who had received the vaccine. After federal officials from the Communicable Disease Center established that these cases were the result of vaccination from a batch prepared by Cutter Laboratories of Berkeley, California, Surgeon General Leonard Scheele halted the vaccination program for a week. Destruction In Frankenstein A heavily emphasized theme in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is science vs. nature or Destruction against creation, as in the case of Frankenstein science and destruction seemingly go hand in hand. The narrator, Victor Frankenstein, is a natural philosopher who is so fixated on the creation and destruction of life that he devotes years to discovering a way to create life in inanimate objects. Once Frankenstein accomplishes this feat, he has, in a sense, upset the balance of nature. In creating this one unnatural life, Frankenstein also destroys the lives of others. It is no coincidence that Frankenstein becomes ill as he works on creating this unnatural life. He explains that the fever and nervousness that plagued him every night was a disease that I regretted the more because I had hitherto enjoyed most excellent health.. (Shelley 83). Although he normally does not get sick often, Frankenstein repeatedly falls ill while working on this project. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the industry and the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors though there is still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often times contractors bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable positions. And after that subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable sub contracts. However, not all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific clauses that are inserted in an attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and sub subcontractors. Conditional payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of clauses that attempt to do such work. Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect the contractor and owner from each other with regard to change orders, it is included to force each party to put changes into writing. For the most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes must be made. The narrator in the story is first person who is a male. We know the narrator is a first person because he uses pronouns like I, and me. So, the narrator is obviously a first person narrator and he is also the focalizing character because he is talking about things that he did or things happened to him, rather than things he watched or heard about. Thus we are encouraged to experience the events of the story on basis of description by the narrator because no person can tell lie when he know he is going to die soon as the narrator was going to be hanged the next day after telling this story. So as narrator stated he wanted to unburden his soul from this sin of murder of his wife. • 35. The Heart And The Heart Of The Human Heart The human heart is the one organ that powers the entire body. Without it we wouldn t be able to do the simplest functions. Simple things like talking, walking, and even breathing relies on the heart pumping. Pumping blood into all the different parts of the body allows the circulatory system to supply oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide and other wastes. The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s circulatory pump. There are four chambers that make up the heart. The upper chambers are called the atrium and the lower chambers are the ventricle. A wall of muscle called the septum separates the two sides of the heart. Attached to each chamber is a valve. The valves open and close to let the blood flow in only one direction. These valves are actual flaps that are located on each end of the two ventricles. The right side of the heart is responsible for taking all the deprived oxygen blood and making it rich again. The left side pumps all the oxygenated blood out into the rest of the body. All the great things the heart does for the body and it only takes one wrong thing to happen to the heart to affect the entire body. Though at first the United States prospered after the war, they soon fell into the Great Depression. To some Americans, the government s attempts to alleviate their financial struggles made their situation worse. They viewed the government as an overbearing, controlling body that needed reform. One poem written in 1939 showcases this opinion through a satirical story of a state official praising a citizen who died. W. H. Auden s The Unknown Citizen criticizes the government for not truly caring about its people. The government commends its citizens only when they do not interfere with the state s agenda. In this poem, one specific man is what the state considers an ideal citizen, so they build a monument for him after he dies. The words of this poem are their tribute to this citizen for his respectable life. Their ideal citizen, though, is one who blindly follows their rules; for example, they check all the reports on his conduct and call him a saint because they see no official complaints against him (line 4). They also say he had the proper opinions for the time of year (23). Basically, they are happy that his opinions matched theirs, whether it be in politics, education, or war. The graph shows that there was an erratic but visible increase in the frequency of seismic activity leading up to the first eruption. It also shows that the second and third eruptions were not preceded by a marked increase in seismic activity, and that during two weeks following the last eruption in November and December, a large frequency of earthquakes took place without an eruption occurring afterwards. This illustrates how difficult it can be to predict when an eruption is likely to take place and underscores the importance of using several methods concurrently to predict volcanism. Monitoring ground deformation in the vicinity of a volcano is another valuable tool for understanding what s going on underground. When magma rises, it often causes the rock above it to deform or uplift in the form of a dome, and these domes indicate activity below the surface that could be a warning sign of an eruption. One of the most dramatic occurrences of uplift occurred prior to the Mt. St. Helens eruption of 1980 when the volcano s north side bulged out over 100 meters in only two months. • 40. Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international trade theory. A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it can produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares industry productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an absolute advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the existence of reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods, there are obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to those countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantage is considered a different story emerges. Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are foregone. Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are foregone if Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize. Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of wheat. In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses produce should then be traded. We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results from the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute advantage is quite intuitive. Source: Economics 7th Edition, David Begg. • 44. The Consequences Of The European Colonization Of Native... European Colonization was rapidly expanded after Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer arrived in the Americas. The start of the Colonization is dated to 1492. The European Colonization of the Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the arrival of Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases, violence and dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the Native Americans was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox, measles and influenza. This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight these diseases as they did not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic diseases and started dying quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Thus, within a century, diseases have reduced indigenous populations by as much as 95% making matters worse. The Epidemic took years to exhaust itself and may have killed 90% of the people in coastal New England. This made a huge difference to American History. (Mann, 1491) The drastic death of so many Native Americans decimated the supply of labors who were working under the Europeans in the Americas. The prophet Muhammad s ban on alcohol is said to have started from a fight between two men who were under the influence. When Muhammad sought divine help from the one and only Allah, Allah s reply was to ban alcohol so that such a thing could not happen again. As for wine, it had a different story for the development of Christianity. Wine drinking was a tradition of Greeks and Romans. When barbarians took over Rome and Greece, wine drinking seemed to have halted. But as time went on, barbarians began to take up wine drinking again, sort of assimilating themselves into Greek culture. He frequently brought these languages into his plays and other writings. He embedded an enormously important new wealth to the history of literature: he helped to popularize and retain many of the classical stories and traditions. (Document 5) You could say that William Shakespeare wasn t a Renaissance man because he lacked originality. He might be known to take ideas or you could say he writes from his own perspective. Shakespeare has an emptiness in his philosophy too. This all could be proved wrong though because Shakespeare brought many pieces of literature back to life such as classics. Also, he ultimately has set the bar for literature and even made his own writing styles such as a sonnet. Without his help may have shriveled from public recognition altogether in English (Document 5). William Shakespeare is a Renaissance Man because of his ability to change the course of literature and bring us classical stories that possibly could have been lost in time never to be heard of again. The future without him would be very bland almost. There would be far less writing styles, and also, the amount of classical literature would be limited because of him not being there to bring it back. The first step, then, is diagnosis. Consider a small commodities supplier that suddenly found that its largest competitor had slashed prices to a level well below the small company s costs. One option the smaller company considered was to lower its price in a tit for tat move. But that price would have heen below the suppher s marginal cost; it would have suffered debilitating losses. Fortunately, a few phone calls revealed that its adversary was attempting to drive the supplier out of the local market by underpricing its products locally but maintaining high prices elsewhere. The supplier correctly diagnosed the pricing move as predatory and elected to do two things. First, the manager called customers in the competitor s home market to let them know that the price cutter was offering special deals in another market.
