In recent (and not so recent) years, there has been many conversations about
reform throughout our school and county. This has obviously been somewhat of a
controversy in all layers of the local populus; among teachers, students, parents,

The United States school systems are in trouble, and so are its teachers and
principals. Michelle Rhee, former chancellor of the Washington DC public schools is
enforcing standardized tests. There was a law passed, No child left behind, which
stated that by 2014 every child in the United States should be proficient in English
and mathematics. This law brought along the DC Cast Standardized Test. Rhee took
this law very seriously. She was going from schoolto school meeting with its
principal and going back and looking at the test scores since he/she became the
principal of that school. If the test scores of that school went down drastically
since during their time as principal, she fired them. She also kept her eye out for

One challenge many people who are biracial face, especially when they re young,
is fitting in with people. We live in a world that sees you for your color, and if you
aren t white enough or black enough people are likely to not be as accepting.

the U.S. Supreme Court. So, Dred Scott and his wife took their case to the U.S.
Supreme Court. Then, the nine justices of the Supreme Court heard the case in the

between regular participation in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers
(CCLC) afterschool programs and academic achievement as determined by
changes in standardized test scores, and district benchmarks in Language Arts and
Mathematics. Specifically, this study examined whether there were differences in
rates of school attendance, measures of academic achievement, and number of
discipline referrals for students who attended the after school program regularly
for two years as compared to students who did not attend the after school program
regularly. A quasi experimental study was used for this research. This chapter
includes conclusions, summary of results, and action plan/recommendations. In the
final section of this chapter the researcher will provide prescriptive suggestions
and recommendations for future research. Summary of Results The data from 120
fourth grade and 120 fifth grade students were used in this study (Tables 1.1 and
1.2). All data were archived from school years 2010 2011 and 2011 2012 academic
school years. The required consents from parents, school district, and IRB of Kean
