Sleeping Beauty Analysis
In The Royal Ballet's video, "The Sleeping Beauty: The Challenges of technically demanding roles,"
principal dancers Sarah Lamb and Steven McRae as well repetiteur Alexander Agadzhanov and
former director and producer Dame Monica Mason discuss the technical challenges of the lead roles
in the ballet The Sleeping Beauty and how dancers must balance the technical difficulty of the roles
with their artistry. Ballerina Sarah Lamb notes that one of the most difficult aspects of dancing the
role of Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty is the stamina that the role requires. Particularly, the
repetitive movements that she must complete. In order to prepare, she works with Agadzhanov, the
repetiteur, on repetition of the choreography in Act 1 so that she can build stamina and not be tired
during the actual performances. This strategy is similar to the structure of ballet study in general.
Every class, we start by working the basic movements (plies, tendus, etc) on the barre to train and
prepare our bodies for the work we do in the center such as petite allegro. Obviously it takes an
immense amount of preparation and training at the barre in order to see the results in the center.
Personally, I have been taking ballet classes since I was a toddler, but if the petite allegro we do in
class is very quick, it is as if I have never taken a ballet before. The music demands my body to
move so fast that my technique cannot quite keep up. Suddenly, my toes are not pointed and my
alignment not held. Like Lamb, I must do countless repetitions to build up my stamina and
technique so that my body is ready when I come to the center of the studio just as she does when she
goes into performance. During this short documentary, Lamb really emphasizes how as a role,
Aurora is both an artistic and technical challenge. She describes how the steps that she does look so
simple, yet it is is difficult to do them with lightness and finesse. Particularly, the characterization of
Aurora requires a lightness and buoyancy because she is sixteen year old girl on her birthday. I have
never performed a ballet before, only group ballet dances in dance recitals, so I have never explored
character development in relation to ballet dancing; however, I do

Clarice Starling
When discussing feminist characters, it's easy to get caught up on the more overtly feminine
personalities, such as Elle Woods from "Legally Blond" or perhaps Dorothy Gale from "The Wizard
of Oz". However, the 1991 film "The Silence of the Lambs", an "...intense, gritty crime odyssey,"
(Grow, 2016) supplies a strong, feminist character who isn't afraid to get down to business.
Throughout the film, Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, silently breaks gender roles in order to
compete with the male authority that she faces all around her. From avoiding suggesting gazes and
unwanted sexual advances, to holding one's ground in a male workplace, Starling takes on a role
that is the constant recipient of the male scrutiny, impulse, and hostility. Clarice is placed into a
distinctly feminist role by the use of powerful cinematography, the actions of her male counterparts
and Clarice's own actions while in the face of ethical adversity. The story concerns the young
Clarice Starling, a promising FBI cadet at a training academy located in Quantico, Virginia. Jack
Crawford of the Bureau's Behavioral Science Unit assigns Starling to befriend the notorious
Hannibal Lecter, a former psychiatrist and imprisoned cannibalistic killer. Starling is forced to
cooperate with Dr. Lecter, as his insight proves useful in identifying "Buffalo Bill"; the serial killer
responsible for skinning young women just after murdering them. The transgender killer takes the
skin from his victims

Essay on What Does Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Truly Means?
To better analyze this story, it is firstly important to understand what PTSD, short for Posttraumatic
Stress Disorder truly means. The exact definition is, "an anxiety disorder that may develop after
exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which severe physical harm occurred or was threatened"
(Psychologytoday). Embedded in this short story are clear–cut symptoms that Seymour, the main
character experiences. He endures lack of interest, difficulty in concentration, eating disorder,
hopelessness, episodes of detachment, altered perception, and most importantly a sense of having no
future. A Perfect Day for Bananafish is based off of this man Seymour Glass who is a returning
veteran from WWII. He comes home to a wife who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had given up on his appearance, shamed of his "tattooed" body, and mortified by his adult–like

life in the hands of a child. The story time he shared with Sybil was his final attempt to believe the
world was not so malice, to believe he had a reason to overcome his obstacles, and yet he was so
disenchanted it led him to suicide. Imagine a distinguished man stumbling around with a matted
robe, stringy hair, oily complexion, sunk in cheekbones, bags under his eyes, and pale legs. Then
imagine a perfectly manicured wife who seems to be on the phone waiting to reap benefits. Seymour
had not one soul to comfort his tattered mind and soul. He spent his days ashamed covering himself
in that old robe because, "he [didn't] want a lot of fools looking at his tattoo" (pg 6). This is one of
the symptoms he suffered from, an altered perspective. Everyone thought Seymour was insane
because he did not have a tattoo. However, the tattoo was not on his physical body, it was a mental
scar. Just as the famous Hispanic artist Joan Sebastian sang, "Tatuajes de tus besos llevo en todo mi

Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Mpd )
Dissociative Identity Disorder, commonly referred to as Multiple Personality Disorder, has been one
of the more controversial diagnoses in psychology and psychiatry. On one side of the debate, many
psychologists and psychiatrists believe the disorder to be an actual phenomenon that occurs in
individuals that have suffered through some traumatic experience. On the other side of the debate,
however, are the many psychologists and psychiatrists that believe the disorder is simply the result
of a therapist's suggestion and guidance. The present paper, therefore, aims to look into this debate.
In particular, the paper discusses the criteria in which one is diagnosed with Dissociative Identity
Disorder, explores the history of the disorder, and presents both sides of the controversy of the
disorder.
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), or Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), has a seemingly long
history. Some psychologists and psychiatrist reason that cave painting from the Paleolithic era
depicting shamans changing into animals and embodying spirits is evidence of multiple personalities
(Cohen 88). Written evidence dates back to as far as the 18th century in which talks of a 20 year old
German woman who exchanged personalities with, that is adopted the personality of, a French
aristocrat but was unable to recall this personality when later questioned about it (Cohen 89). The
19th century saw the works of Jean Pierre and William James in the discovery of a system of ideas

end mason family plantation in Fairfax County, Virginia. His religion is Anglican, Episcopalian,
when mason was 10, his father drowned in the Potomac when the boat he was in capsized. After his
father death, mason lived wit his uncle john mercer, who became his legal guardian (along with his

academy in Maryland. Mason was a justice of the Fairfax County court. Between 1754 and 1779, he
was a trustee of the city of Alexandria, Virginia. In 1759 he was elected to the Virginia House of
Burgesses. Mason served at the Virginia Convention in Williamsburg in 1776. During this time he
created drafts of the first declaration of rights and state constitution in the Colonies. Both were
adopted after committee alterations; the Virginia Declaration of Rights was adopted June 12, 1776,
and the Virginia Constitution was adopted June 29, 1776. Article 1 of the Virginia Declaration of
Rights–a statement later made internationally famous by the first paragraph of the U.S. Declaration

inherent rights of which, when they enter into a state of society, they cannot, by any compact,

Review Of ' Shiloh ' By Toni Morrison
The protagonists are the most important characters of the stories. They play an essential part in
building the story to its climax. The protagonists encounter with different characters and their
experiences with those characters became paramount in developing the outcome of the story at the
end. Sometimes we overlook the significance of non–protagonists. Many non–protagonist characters
have a significant impact on the protagonists. In "Shiloh" written by Bobbie Ann Mason, Norma
Jean and Leroy are unhappily married couple who are going through a transformation in their
marriage. Leroy is failing to keep Norma Jean satisfied with their marriage and eventually faces a
cruel reality which will alter his life. Also in "Recitatif" written by Toni Morrison, Twyla who
briefly stayed at St. Bonny's orphanage, met Maggie and Roberta, who would later become
indispensable individuals that would forever change her point of view on life.
In the story of "Shiloh," Leroy and Norma Jean have been in an unhappy marriage for sixteen years.
Even though their marriage was an unhappy one, it seems to be normal, from Leroy's point of view,
until he gets into an accident. According to Steward J. Cooke, he later comes to terms with the cruel
reality of his shallow/empty marriage with Norma Jean (Cooke). Even though he knows about the
abnormality in his marriage with Norma Jean, he is still stuck in the past and hoping that he could
renew their marriage and start afresh. All the while Norma Jean is

Fences: Black People and Wilson
Joseph Fernandez

The Isolation and Alienation of Troy in Wilson's Fences August Wilson's Fences is a play about life,
and an extended metaphor Wilson uses to show the crumbling relationships between Troy and Cory
and Troy and Rose. Troy Maxson represents the dreams of black America in a majorly white world,
a world where these dreams were not possible because of the racism and attitudes that prevailed.
Troy Maxson is representative of many blacks and their "attitudes and behavior...within the social
flux of the late fifties, in their individual and collective struggles to hew a niche for themselves in
the rocky social terrain of postwar America" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And then I want you to stay on the other side...You stay on the other side of that fence until you
ready for me (Wilson, 77).
There is also the literal fence in the play, which Rose wants Troy to build around their yard. Troy
wonders why Rose would want a fence when they have virtually nothing of value to steal. Bogumil
believes that, "A fence to Rose has spiritual significance, solace to comfort her during the times she
must intervene in the dysfunctional relationship between her son Cory and husband Troy...(48). The
beginning of Act One, Scene Two begins with Rose singing to herself, "Jesus, be a fence around me
every day...." (Wilson, 21). While Troy is building fences to keep people out, Rose builds a fence to
keep them in, as she, "dearly desires to preserve the family she has never had" (Bogumil, 48). Rose
herself says to Troy, "...you know I ain't never wanted no half nothing in my family. My whole
family is half.....Can't hardly tell who's who (Wilson, 68).
Alan Nadel believes that Wilson is making a political statement with the metaphor of a fence. He
sets up his argument with the assertion that. "the idea of a fence is inextricable from the idea of
property" (86). He continues in this vein, linking property to humans, linking humans as a form of
property to the days of slaveholding. He then says that one of the human ideals of freedom was in
ownership; ownership of property. He states that in previous times, "Race or skin color was just
such a fence.

The Tuckman's Model : Five Stages Of Team Development
– Introduction:
The Tuckman Model (1965) is a five–stage model which identifies five stages of team development;
forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. In order to obtain the team's optimal
productivity and outcomes, it is suggested that the team goes through the stages of development
which the facilitator must oversee. The stages help the facilitator to develop the groups and to better
manage the participants should any conflict arise. The following report describes a small group of
carers who are caring for someone who has post–traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how the
stages of development were used within the group work. Forming is the first stage where group
members begin to become oriented with each other and the facilitator (George Mason University,
2017). The storming stage follows where conflicts and competition arise between group members as
they have often not become comfortable or familiar with each other (George Mason University,
2017). Norming is the third stage of Tuckman's Model which involves group member's feeling
which enable them to contribute to the group's development resulting in group cohesion (Wilson,
2010). Performing is the fourth stage of group development where group members can work
interdependently, within subgroups or as a whole and are the most productive in developing as a
group and as an individual (George Mason University, 2017). Adjourning is the last stage of
Tuckman's model which involves dissolving the group and

Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Dissociative Personality )
Dissociative identity disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) is thought to be a
complex mental condition that is likely brought on by numerous variables, including serious injury
amid early adolescence generally compelling, repetitive physical, sexual, or psychological
mistreatment. The greater part of us have encountered mild dissociation, which resemble wandering
off in fantasy land or losing all sense of direction at the time while taking a shot at an undertaking.
In any case, dissociative personality issue is an extreme type of separation, a mental procedure
which delivers an absence of association in a man 's musings, recollections, emotions, activities, or
feeling of character. Dissociative character issue is thought to originate from a blend of components
that may incorporate injury experienced by the individual with the confusion. The dissociative
viewpoint is thought to be a method for dealing with stress – the individual actually separates
himself from a circumstance or experience that is excessively brutal, traumatic, or difficult to absorb
with his cognizant self.
The DSM 5 elaborates on cultural background as an influence for some clinical presentations of
DID. Numerous components of dissociative identity disorder can be affected by the individual 's
social foundation. People with this issue may give unmistakable restoratively unexplained
neurological side effects, for example, non–epileptic seizures, incapacitates, or tactile misfortune,

Because of this, viewers only hear about extreme aspects of DID and the majority of the ones they
hear of are simply not accurate. For example, the media almost always assigns a maniacal alter to a
patient, which, in reality, is uncommon. This year, 2017, a movie called Split, depicted a man
suffering from DID. His alters grew in power and created an identity called the "Beast", who was
capable of changing his own body into a taller and stronger "creature" who then starts a bone–
shaking killing spree. This kind of alter is incredibly rare in Dissociative identity disorder cases.
Most changes in identity are very casual or subtle, such as a change in tone of voice or attitude,
similar to any other person experiencing a mood change. Most DID sufferers stay in the mental
health system for an average of seven years before they receive a proper

Personal Narrative : Billy The Goat In The Ligeria
Prologue
Billy the Goat was a Goat. No questions asked. He was the terror of the City of Billyoligia. A
beautiful castle on a Mt. Billyupidus, a 3,000 ft. tall plateau that was about even with sea–level.
Billy had a wingspan of 20 ft. he had poison and had fangs as long as swords, he also could breathe
fire in dire situations. He had only retreated once due to the holyniss of a holy–hand grenade thrown
by the Popester who was, sadly, consumed in the explosion. But Billy the Goat was feared
throughout the plateau.
Now he was up in his castle playing a game of Texas–Hold 'em with his friends The Big Donkey
and Phredd. The peeps had said that he was also watching Sunday Night Foosball, the famed sport.
They have had the castle for over 20 years and have held it firm since then. The only payment so
that the smaller town was not destroyed is that they have to bring large shipments of Çandy. Çandy
was the most valued substance in the world at that time.
The Castle has been under siege for the past 5 years though, the citizens of Billyoligia had been
trying to wreck the castle while still bringing in the shipments of Çandy, which is pretty hard to do.
The castle had been draped in Billy's shed impenetrable skin which had taken several years but now
made the castle nearly impossible to enter, so Billy could play Foosball with his friends.
Billy had become this way because of a very tragic event that had happened in his childhood
involving a wizard, Griffin, and a Basilisk. So, a

The Silence Of The Lambs
Exceptionality and Geniuses
The term 'genius' is associated with an array of diverse connotations. When reviewing the literature,
it is vital to note that a specific definition and approach to measure whether or not a person is a
genius, is rather complex. Garber, M. (2002) declares "genius" as a special inflation and over time
has "become a commodity, an ambition, and even a lifestyle." The underlying question is: how, and
what makes an individual a prodigy? One may argue that completing an intelligence quotient (IQ)
test will suffice and determine whether an individual exemplifies genius–like tendencies, as others
argue otherwise. There are tendencies and certain behaviours that geniuses exhibit differing them
from other individuals who are more or less considered "normal". Therefore, relationships with
geniuses tend to differ as their intelligence and typical demeanor is peculiar. In the film The Silence
of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme, one of the main characters, Hannibal Lecter portrays
unusual behaviour. Based on his questionable character, one may argue that genius–like behaviour is
conspicuous; this is seen through his relationships, his intellect, and overall demeanor.
The relationships observed in the movie The Silence of the Lambs depicts thoughtful but suspicious
intent. A female FBI trainee, Clarice Starling was put on a case to get to know Hannibal Lecter's
character; his thought process, responses, and interactions were monitored thoroughly. Clarice

I didn't want them to have to worry about money, nor did I want to take out much in loans. This
made me decide to look at primarily in–state schools, which helped me narrow down my search, but
ultimately didn't compel me to choose George Mason University. With a smaller list of universities,

Classical Music And The Romantic Era
Beginning circa 1820, and ending around 1910 (Paterson, 2017), the Romantic period followed the
Classical era, marking the introduction of many changes to the overall sound and composition of
music. The increased use of large orchestras, combined with the use of chromaticism and
modulations, expressional devices such as dynamics, and sweeping melodies, led to a large amount
of emotion being conveyed in pieces of music. An example featuring many of these techniques and
features is Chopin's "Nocturne in E–flat major, Op. 9", No. 2, which was published in 1832
(AllMusic, 2017). 20th Century music, commonly referred to as "contemporary" music, followed
the end of the Romantic period. The rise of popular music forms such as jazz, blues, and rock led to
a large change in approach for the neoclassical composers, leading many into an avant–garde
approach, such as John Cage. The introduction of electric amplification changed the overall sound
of music, with new instruments being invented, as well as possibilities for foreign objects to be
amplified. "Classical Gas", by Mason Williams (1968), was written for classical guitar, as Williams
felt there was a limited classical guitar repertoire, particularly amongst the popular music of the
1960s. Thus, he wrote Classical Gas, a piece inspired by the Classical era, but involving more
modern instrumentation and a contemporary flavour (Williams, 2013).

Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Mason Essay
The setting in the short story "Shiloh" by Bobbie Ann Mason works well to accentuate the theme of
the story. The theme portrayed by Mason is that most people change along with their environment,
with the exception of the few who are unwilling to adapt making it difficult for things such as
marriage to work out successfully. These difficulties are apparent in Norma Jean and Leroy's
marriage. As Norma Jean advances herself, their marriage ultimately collapses due to Leroy's
unwillingness to adapt with her and the changing environment. Leroy Moffit is a truck driver, and

Leroy took a drive one day around his community, suddenly he realized how much it had changed
over the years and yet he failed to notice, as he failed to notice Norma Jean changing. As Leroy
remained stationary the community and his wife continued advancing together adapting to the
changes of the working world. Setting also comes into play by supporting the theme in the latter part
of the story when Leroy and Norma Jean travel to a civil war battleground named Shiloh. On this
ground a battle took place due to the clashing of two sides. One side was unwilling to adapt, similar
to Leroy's unwillingness. While they are at the battle ground Norma Jean tells Leroy that their
marriage is over, like she is ending a war that has been going on for too long. The setting of the
battleground accentuates the decline of Norma Jean and Leroy's marriage ultimately coming to an
end. The story of "Shiloh" is an example of what happens when a person is unwilling to adapt to his
or her environment, ultimately resulting in a conflict and an ending. As Norma Jean adapts to her
environment, Leroy is unwilling to adapt and is left behind resulting as the end of their marriage.
The setting in the story of "Shiloh" supports the theme of the story by accentuating on what the
characters do throughout the sequence of the story. An institution such as marriage

The General Function Of A Female Slave
A slave was then basically anyone who was not white, but color was forced to have a master in
which all of the commands that came out of their mouths definitely would have to be done by a
slave. Many times they were treated badly and none of the slaves had a say in anything that they
would do. Slaves had no rights at all and they were considered basically nothing or a piece of
property; a property in which masters could share and buy slaves for themselves. White people who
could afford to buy a slave would. Slaves were mainly used for manual labor. The general function
of a female slave was mainly to do chores, while men, on the other hand grew crops and worked in
many other different things that involved a "men's job".
As a young girl who became a slave Biddy Mason can certainly relate to the definition of slave. At a
young age for a long time Biddy was considered as a Black slave woman who was illiterate. In other
words she could not read or write. She worked as a nurse and a midwife and traveled from
Mississippi to California to be able to become a successful businesswoman and a generous
contributor to social causes. Bridgett "Biddy" Mason was born a slave, August 15, 1818. No one
knows the location in which she was born in, but many people predict that she was born in Georgia,
while others predict more likely she may have been born in Mississippi. Biddy was given the name

Analysis Of Stephen Daldry 's ' Billy Elliot '
Transitioning from one phase to another can be complex, and inevitably involves the overcoming of
obstacles to experience new phases of life and social situations. An individual must reevaluate their
social environment and society's viewpoints on matters, such as gender roles and the expectations of
others, to be subjected to a change in lifestyle. Stephen Daldry's 2000 film, 'Billy Elliot', showcases
the struggle of a young boy as he develops in his Northern England town and experiences a new
love for ballet, an activity stereotypically reserved for petite females. His fight for a life in ballet

My Interest in MS in Telecommunication at George Mason...
I am writing to inform you of my interest in MS in Telecommunication here at George Mason
University. My interest in MS technologies started when I was very young. Since my early
childhood till today, my most important characteristics have been my excitement to learn things and
new topics. It developed even more over time and throughout my childhood. My inner desire to
reach a degree of excellence took me to the George Mason University. To further my passion of IT, I
have submitted my application with applicable documentation into your department. I currently hold
my Bachelor's Degree in Applied Information Technology from George Mason University with ***
of GPA.
I have developed interest in IT and computers from the very beginning of my young age. As long as
I can remember, Information Technology has been a big part of my life. It all started in my early age
of my school where I was taught a basic language of computers and how the computers can be
programmed. After seeing my interest in computers, my father bought me an Intel Celeron based
computer with 256 Megabyte of RAM during my middle school days. Compare to today's fast
operating systems, this computer really tested my patience. After playing around with it, I
discovered myself more into it and tried making it work faster. I had even tried changing some of its
files on my own so that it can work the way I want it. I tried fixing it in a way so that it can help me
opening the Microsoft 97 without freezing it. This

Dissociative identity disorder, or better known as multiple personality disorder, is a severe form of
dissociation where there is a lack of connection in a person's thoughts, memories, feelings, actions,
or sense of identity (WebMD, 2014). Usually people who suffer from multiple personalities have
gone through some kind of trauma which causes them to be someone else in a way so that they can
cope with these events. The person dissociates themselves from a situation or experience that's too
violent, traumatic, or painful to assimilate with his/her conscious self (WebMD, 2014). Related to
the movie, Alice went through a severe traumatic event and tries to forget and block it out by
creating Kristen and the 4 other girls on the ward.
Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct and split
identities or personality states that continually have power over the person's behavior (WebMD,
2014). Each alternate personality has its own pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about
the self and the environment (Halter, 2014, p. 317). In the movie, each girl we meet that Alice has
created is completely different from the other. Kristen is the leader who is strong and outgoing. The
other girls range from Zoey who is shy and scared of the world who never talks much but must
follow all of the rules, Emily is wild and fun but likes to follow others, Iris is timid and likes to stick
to herself,

Silence Of The Lambs Film Analysis
In the film of The Silence of the Lambs, Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a psychiatric doctor who eats the
organs of his patients and others. Clarice Starling interviewed Dr. Hannibal Lecter to help her
capture Buffalo Bill who is known for skinning young women. Film devices and techniques are
important because it helps build suspense. The film techniques in The Silence of the Lambs help
contribute to the element of suspense and horror. First, film devices and techniques in the scene
where Buffalo Bill tortures Catherine Martin who is in the hole of Bill's house help support the
element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this scene is the camera angles. It
used a high and low camera angles. The low camera angle faced downwards when it is showing
Catherine Martin making her seem small and weak. However, the high camera angle shows Buffalo
Bill being seen at the top of the hole in the basement as he is looking down on Catherine Martin.
This illustrates the power Buffalo Bill has over Catherine Martin as he laughs and tortures her.
Another film device that is used in this scene is the sound. At the end of the scene, a strange music
soundtrack plays in the background when Catherine Martin sees blood marks on the wall and
screams out of fear. Buffalo Bill mocks her screams and movements which scares her even more.
The third film device is the lighting. In the scene, Catherine Martin has no light in the hole making it
dark and dull which makes it spooky. As soon as Buffalo Bill lowers the basket, the light captures
Catherine's face as she sees the bloody marks of other victims who tried to climb out the hole.Next,
film devices and techniques in the scene where Clarice Starling talks to Buffalo Bill about Fredrica
Bimmel help support the element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this
scene is parallel action. At the beginning of the scene, the camera switches from Buffalo Bill's house
to where Mr. Crawford and the FBI investigators were at. It is parallel action because it builds
suspense and it makes sure the audience is aware that Clarice Starling does not know that she is with
Buffalo Bill. Another film device that is used in the scene is a subjective shot. It shows

Homeschool Is Not School At Home
Homeschool First time I heard about homeschooling, I had tons of question about it. I was
wondering. What are some requirement that parents have go through to be able to teach their
children? Why parents choose homeschool rather then let's their children go to compound school,
and how they manage their schedule? What are some approach that parents use to teach? However,
after question myself; the image of homeschooling have refresh on my childhood's school. During
my childhood, my family used to do homeschool. My dad provide chalks, blackboard, and
textbooks. My uncle and my brother were teachers. They taught my sibling and me math, reading
and writing. Sometime, my dad taught us English. Some people define that homeschool is not
school at home and some people say that it is a school at home. Anyway, my definition of
homeschool is school that educate with everything that we learn from, and from the real life that
have the parents as teachers and partners that learn a long. Homeschool started in the 1960s and
1970s when some parents didn't like publish school system. In the mid–1980s, homeschool had been
well and had increased from 150000 to 200000 children. In the mid–1990s, the number of children
had risen from 500000 to 600000, (Linsenbach 3). Up to today, Homeschool have increase double
the number of the student up to 2.5 million. The requirements for homeschooling are varies from

Jefferson Is Unenthusiastic 1787
Confederation and Constitution
After the American Revolution, a new government had to be established. The Constitution that was
written took power away from the people. It led to rebellions from poor people and farmers.
Daniel Shays, a former Revolutionary Army captain, led a rebellion with farmers, against laws
which were not fair to the poor. They protested against excessive taxes on property, polling taxes
which obtained the poor from voting, unfair actions by the court of common requests, the high cost
of lawsuits, and the lack of a stable currency. They wanted the government to issue paper money,
since it is cheaper then gold and silver coins.
Once retired George Washington heard of this, he immediately went to ... Show more content on

Later, he said "God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people
cannot be all, and always well informed."
(Jefferson is Unenthusiastic 1787) Here he is saying that America just has to have a rebellion and
can't live in peace. He is right that all the people cannot be always well informed, but attempting to
keep them well informed is the key to success, which I believe the government did not, and still
does not do.
In a letter to James Madison, Jefferson said "...what I do not like. First the omission of a bill of
rights providing clearly and without the aid of sophism for freedom of religion, freedom of the
press, protection against standing armies, restriction against monopolies, the eternal and unremitting
force of the habeas corpus laws, and trials by jury in all metters of fact triable by the laws of the land
and not by the law of Nations." (Thomas Jefferson, Letter to James Madison on the Constitution

office and particulary in the case of the President." Again, he is for rebellion and freedom for men.

The Character Of Billy's 'The Landlady'
The Landlady
Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as "The Landlady" ends in a
disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous
ways to characterize Billy, a 17–year–old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath,
England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt
when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything
seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death
at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and
gullibility.
The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity, but
his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy as
abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and
Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states "Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast" (Dahl
2). He subsequently says it was "fantastically cheap" (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the
consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as
much. This shows his gullible state of mind at the extremes. Billy Weaver finally asks about how
this cheap of a place did not get lots of customers and she answered: "I'm inclined to be

A beautiful castle on Mt. Billyupidus, the 3,000 ft. tall plateau that was about even with sea–level
positioned in the middle of a desert surrounded by deciduous forests. Billy had a wingspan of 20 ft.
he had poison in his fangs, which were as long as swords, he also could breathe fire in dire
situations plus unbeknownst to the general population could shoot spikes off of his tail, much like a
manticore, though not related to any manticores in particular. He had only retreated once due to a
sword stuck into his side by the king of that time, but let's just say that king didn't go on any other
expeditions; mostly due to the fact Billy had injured him and poison was slowly seeping into him.
But still, Billy the Goat was feared throughout the plateau. Now he was up in his castle playing a
game of Texas–Hold 'em with his friends The Big Timmy and Phredd. The peeps said that he was
also watching Sunday Night Foosball, the famed sport that Billy dominated at. They have had the
castle for over 20 years and have held it firm since then. The only payment so that the small town

Conflict Essay
Conflict essay: the relationship wish
Nicole Robinson (davawna Davis) george mason university
It is a fact that a lot of people would do anything to avoid a conflict. The truth is that no matter how
we try avoiding a conflict, it still exists. It states in the book (Devito, 2010–2011,p.278) that
"conflict is a part of every interpersonal relationship", it is unheard of to have relationship without
having some type of conflict, but the key to it is how it is handled. A conflict in a relationship can
either make or break your relationship. If it is still a little skeptical on how this is true here is an
example. My boyfriend did not like to talk to me about what would bother him, especially when it
would deal with me. That would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That act caught me in exactly what I was avoiding, a conflict that turned out bigger than it needed to
be. One thing that I forgot about that a lot of people do not really think about is the positive effects
that could come out of a conflict. We just get so used to assuming the negative is the only way that
we forget about the second principle of conflict, conflict can have negative and positive effects.
(Devito,2010–2011) Yes, a conflict can hurt a relationship, but in the end it is helping a relationship
whether we see it or not. Had I not been afraid of the negative effects of having an argument with
"Aaron" and telling him how I felt about the way he communicated with me the outcome of my fear
would not have occurred to the escalation that it did, but my fear did effect the outcome, and even
though there was a chance of us terminating the relationship we did not go through with it and the
positive effect occurred. We had a better communication skill in our relationship. A conflict can
either make or break any relationship, for me it made my relationship ten times better. A conflict has
to have some type of focus to fuel it. Whether it is money, school, or someone's behavior it has a
focus. This brings it to the next principle of conflict, conflict can focus on content or relationship
issues.(Devito, 2010–2011) My conflict focused on the

Wieel Wiesel Reflection
In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, "I looked at my house in which I had spent
years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would
be like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty."(Wiesel 15) This passage really caught
my attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he's saying
that, as hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder
and harder to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting
because it gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were
leaving everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them.
Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage," The race to death had begun."(Wiesel 10) as an important
style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from
Sighet. I think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the
text because, it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the
use of personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they
all have.
While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, "He was poor and lived in utter
penury."(Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this

Loneliness And Isolation In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
In this excerpt of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the scene reveals the creature's desperation to
befriend the DeLaceys to escape his loneliness. After approaching the old DeLacey, he expresses his
yearning for companionship and protection from the family. However, Felix, Safie, and Agatha
suddenly enter the hovel and confront the creature. The "horror" (96) on the faces of his friends and
being struck "violently with a stick" (97) show the rejection that the creature experiences. His only
link to humanity is broken and he is isolated from society. This passage exhibits the central theme of
loneliness as experienced by the creature. The excerpt shows that loneliness is caused by rejection
from society, companionship is desired, and isolation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is isolated from society, and it is proven when the DeLacey family rejects the creature for his
appearance. This passage parallels the creature's first rejection by his own creator, Victor
Frankenstein. Due to the his ugliness, Victor abandons his creation because of his "disgust" (35). As
a result, the creature is left to explore the world on his own without guidance. His appearance causes
him to be feared by nearly everyone he sees, and thus, he is isolated. Earlier, when the creature
encounters an old man, he "shrieked loudly" (73) and ran out of his hut. His physique is such a
cause of alarm for others, that even strangers leave their houses in fear. However, this passage shows
the "kindness" that the blind DeLacey showed. Since he could not see, the old DeLacey was the only
person who would listen to the creature, because he could not judge his appearance. He had
empathy. Still, the creature faced rejection. Subsequently, he believed that "solitude [was his] only
consolation" (61). The creature used isolation as a coping mechanism for his constant rejection.
However, this only contributed to his loneliness and suffering. The creature even compares himself
to the "devil" (93) to emphasise his seclusion. He uses this analogy to show his despair because even
the enemy of God "had his companions" (93). Frankenstein's creation is physically and emotionally

Intervention Programs ( Anjour )
Intervention Programs (Anjour)
Early alert intervention programs can be beneficial to colleges to assist them with identifying
students who are at risk of not being academically successful (Tampke, 2012–2013; Bryan &
Simmons, 2009). Equally important, students entering college for the first time encounter significant
changes from those encountered in high school as the academic demands are usually more rigorous.
In addition, some freshman students struggle with academic success, which impacts persistence;
therefore, early intervention programs should be considered. According to Vanthournout, Coertjens,
Donche, and Van Petegem (2012), student academic persistence is an expected outcome of early
intervention programs. Learning Methods Course. Tuckman and Kennedy (2011) compared a group
of 702 freshman college students at a large mid–western university: half of the students took a
learning methods course, and half of the students did not take the course. The purpose of the course
was to assist students with increasing accountability, self–esteem, learning modality, readiness skills,
and managing their personal responsibilities. Data from the study concluded that students who
completed the methods course had a higher rate of persistence towards academic achievement, and
graduated at a higher rate than the students who did not take the course. Moreover, the occurrence of
graduating was 50% greater for those students who were experiencing academic difficulty. For this

serial killer. It is believed that he has insight on another case that is occurring in their present about a
man who they are calling "Buffalo Bill" and Clarice must attempt to draw out what Dr. Hannibal
Lecter knows about this case. The disorder that Dr. Hannibal Lecter has is antisocial personality
disorder. This disorder has also been known as sociopathy.
According to (http://www.mayoclinic.org) this can be described as " a mental condition in which a
person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of
others. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others
harshly or with callous indifference. They show no guilt or remorse for their behavior." Some
symptoms of antisocial personality disorder include; disregard for right and wrong, persistent lying
or deceit to exploit others, using charm or wit to manipulate others for personal gain or personal
pleasure, lack of empathy for others and lack of remorse about harming others, and unnecessary
risk–taking or dangerous behavior with no regard for the safety of self or others. Signs of someone
having antisocial personality disorder are; aggression

Sleeping Beauty Analysis

  • 1. Sleeping Beauty Analysis In The Royal Ballet's video, "The Sleeping Beauty: The Challenges of technically demanding roles," principal dancers Sarah Lamb and Steven McRae as well repetiteur Alexander Agadzhanov and former director and producer Dame Monica Mason discuss the technical challenges of the lead roles in the ballet The Sleeping Beauty and how dancers must balance the technical difficulty of the roles with their artistry. Ballerina Sarah Lamb notes that one of the most difficult aspects of dancing the role of Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty is the stamina that the role requires. Particularly, the repetitive movements that she must complete. In order to prepare, she works with Agadzhanov, the repetiteur, on repetition of the choreography in Act 1 so that she can build stamina and not be tired during the actual performances. This strategy is similar to the structure of ballet study in general. Every class, we start by working the basic movements (plies, tendus, etc) on the barre to train and prepare our bodies for the work we do in the center such as petite allegro. Obviously it takes an immense amount of preparation and training at the barre in order to see the results in the center. Personally, I have been taking ballet classes since I was a toddler, but if the petite allegro we do in class is very quick, it is as if I have never taken a ballet before. The music demands my body to move so fast that my technique cannot quite keep up. Suddenly, my toes are not pointed and my alignment not held. Like Lamb, I must do countless repetitions to build up my stamina and technique so that my body is ready when I come to the center of the studio just as she does when she goes into performance. During this short documentary, Lamb really emphasizes how as a role, Aurora is both an artistic and technical challenge. She describes how the steps that she does look so simple, yet it is is difficult to do them with lightness and finesse. Particularly, the characterization of Aurora requires a lightness and buoyancy because she is sixteen year old girl on her birthday. I have never performed a ballet before, only group ballet dances in dance recitals, so I have never explored character development in relation to ballet dancing; however, I do ... • 3. Clarice Starling When discussing feminist characters, it's easy to get caught up on the more overtly feminine personalities, such as Elle Woods from "Legally Blond" or perhaps Dorothy Gale from "The Wizard of Oz". However, the 1991 film "The Silence of the Lambs", an "...intense, gritty crime odyssey," (Grow, 2016) supplies a strong, feminist character who isn't afraid to get down to business. Throughout the film, Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, silently breaks gender roles in order to compete with the male authority that she faces all around her. From avoiding suggesting gazes and unwanted sexual advances, to holding one's ground in a male workplace, Starling takes on a role that is the constant recipient of the male scrutiny, impulse, and hostility. Clarice is placed into a distinctly feminist role by the use of powerful cinematography, the actions of her male counterparts and Clarice's own actions while in the face of ethical adversity. The story concerns the young Clarice Starling, a promising FBI cadet at a training academy located in Quantico, Virginia. Jack Crawford of the Bureau's Behavioral Science Unit assigns Starling to befriend the notorious Hannibal Lecter, a former psychiatrist and imprisoned cannibalistic killer. Starling is forced to cooperate with Dr. Lecter, as his insight proves useful in identifying "Buffalo Bill"; the serial killer responsible for skinning young women just after murdering them. The transgender killer takes the skin from his victims ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on What Does Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Truly Means? To better analyze this story, it is firstly important to understand what PTSD, short for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder truly means. The exact definition is, "an anxiety disorder that may develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which severe physical harm occurred or was threatened" (Psychologytoday). Embedded in this short story are clear–cut symptoms that Seymour, the main character experiences. He endures lack of interest, difficulty in concentration, eating disorder, hopelessness, episodes of detachment, altered perception, and most importantly a sense of having no future. A Perfect Day for Bananafish is based off of this man Seymour Glass who is a returning veteran from WWII. He comes home to a wife who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had given up on his appearance, shamed of his "tattooed" body, and mortified by his adult–like thoughts. In order to repress his pain, he sought out his last attempt to live by the company of a child. A Perfect Day for Bananafish is commonly known as A Perfect Day to Die. Seymour put his life in the hands of a child. The story time he shared with Sybil was his final attempt to believe the world was not so malice, to believe he had a reason to overcome his obstacles, and yet he was so disenchanted it led him to suicide. Imagine a distinguished man stumbling around with a matted robe, stringy hair, oily complexion, sunk in cheekbones, bags under his eyes, and pale legs. Then imagine a perfectly manicured wife who seems to be on the phone waiting to reap benefits. Seymour had not one soul to comfort his tattered mind and soul. He spent his days ashamed covering himself in that old robe because, "he [didn't] want a lot of fools looking at his tattoo" (pg 6). This is one of the symptoms he suffered from, an altered perspective. Everyone thought Seymour was insane because he did not have a tattoo. However, the tattoo was not on his physical body, it was a mental scar. Just as the famous Hispanic artist Joan Sebastian sang, "Tatuajes de tus besos llevo en todo mi cuerpo, tatuados sobre el tiempo que te conoci" (Sebastian). • 7. Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Mpd ) Dissociative Identity Disorder, commonly referred to as Multiple Personality Disorder, has been one of the more controversial diagnoses in psychology and psychiatry. On one side of the debate, many psychologists and psychiatrists believe the disorder to be an actual phenomenon that occurs in individuals that have suffered through some traumatic experience. On the other side of the debate, however, are the many psychologists and psychiatrists that believe the disorder is simply the result of a therapist's suggestion and guidance. The present paper, therefore, aims to look into this debate. In particular, the paper discusses the criteria in which one is diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, explores the history of the disorder, and presents both sides of the controversy of the disorder. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), or Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), has a seemingly long history. Some psychologists and psychiatrist reason that cave painting from the Paleolithic era depicting shamans changing into animals and embodying spirits is evidence of multiple personalities (Cohen 88). Written evidence dates back to as far as the 18th century in which talks of a 20 year old German woman who exchanged personalities with, that is adopted the personality of, a French aristocrat but was unable to recall this personality when later questioned about it (Cohen 89). The 19th century saw the works of Jean Pierre and William James in the discovery of a system of ideas split ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Review Of ' Shiloh ' By Toni Morrison The protagonists are the most important characters of the stories. They play an essential part in building the story to its climax. The protagonists encounter with different characters and their experiences with those characters became paramount in developing the outcome of the story at the end. Sometimes we overlook the significance of non–protagonists. Many non–protagonist characters have a significant impact on the protagonists. In "Shiloh" written by Bobbie Ann Mason, Norma Jean and Leroy are unhappily married couple who are going through a transformation in their marriage. Leroy is failing to keep Norma Jean satisfied with their marriage and eventually faces a cruel reality which will alter his life. Also in "Recitatif" written by Toni Morrison, Twyla who briefly stayed at St. Bonny's orphanage, met Maggie and Roberta, who would later become indispensable individuals that would forever change her point of view on life. In the story of "Shiloh," Leroy and Norma Jean have been in an unhappy marriage for sixteen years. Even though their marriage was an unhappy one, it seems to be normal, from Leroy's point of view, until he gets into an accident. According to Steward J. Cooke, he later comes to terms with the cruel reality of his shallow/empty marriage with Norma Jean (Cooke). Even though he knows about the abnormality in his marriage with Norma Jean, he is still stuck in the past and hoping that he could renew their marriage and start afresh. • 13. Fences: Black People and Wilson Joseph Fernandez Ms. Reilly World Lit 27, January,2010 The Isolation and Alienation of Troy in Wilson's Fences August Wilson's Fences is a play about life, and an extended metaphor Wilson uses to show the crumbling relationships between Troy and Cory and Troy and Rose. Troy Maxson represents the dreams of black America in a majorly white world, a world where these dreams were not possible because of the racism and attitudes that prevailed. Troy Maxson is representative of many blacks and their "attitudes and behavior...within the social flux of the late fifties, in their individual and collective struggles to hew a niche for themselves in the rocky social terrain of postwar America" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And then I want you to stay on the other side...You stay on the other side of that fence until you ready for me (Wilson, 77). There is also the literal fence in the play, which Rose wants Troy to build around their yard. Troy wonders why Rose would want a fence when they have virtually nothing of value to steal. Bogumil believes that, "A fence to Rose has spiritual significance, solace to comfort her during the times she must intervene in the dysfunctional relationship between her son Cory and husband Troy...(48). The beginning of Act One, Scene Two begins with Rose singing to herself, "Jesus, be a fence around me every day...." (Wilson, 21). While Troy is building fences to keep people out, Rose builds a fence to keep them in, as she, "dearly desires to preserve the family she has never had" (Bogumil, 48). Rose herself says to Troy, "...you know I ain't never wanted no half nothing in my family. My whole family is half.....Can't hardly tell who's who (Wilson, 68). Alan Nadel believes that Wilson is making a political statement with the metaphor of a fence. He sets up his argument with the assertion that. "the idea of a fence is inextricable from the idea of property" (86). He continues in this vein, linking property to humans, linking humans as a form of property to the days of slaveholding. He then says that one of the human ideals of freedom was in ownership; ownership of property. He states that in previous times, "Race or skin color was just such a fence. ... • 15. The Tuckman's Model : Five Stages Of Team Development – Introduction: The Tuckman Model (1965) is a five–stage model which identifies five stages of team development; forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. In order to obtain the team's optimal productivity and outcomes, it is suggested that the team goes through the stages of development which the facilitator must oversee. The stages help the facilitator to develop the groups and to better manage the participants should any conflict arise. The following report describes a small group of carers who are caring for someone who has post–traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how the stages of development were used within the group work. Forming is the first stage where group members begin to become oriented with each other and the facilitator (George Mason University, 2017). The storming stage follows where conflicts and competition arise between group members as they have often not become comfortable or familiar with each other (George Mason University, 2017). Norming is the third stage of Tuckman's Model which involves group member's feeling which enable them to contribute to the group's development resulting in group cohesion (Wilson, 2010). Performing is the fourth stage of group development where group members can work interdependently, within subgroups or as a whole and are the most productive in developing as a group and as an individual (George Mason University, 2017). Adjourning is the last stage of Tuckman's model which involves dissolving the group and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Dissociative Personality ) Dissociative identity disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) is thought to be a complex mental condition that is likely brought on by numerous variables, including serious injury amid early adolescence generally compelling, repetitive physical, sexual, or psychological mistreatment. The greater part of us have encountered mild dissociation, which resemble wandering off in fantasy land or losing all sense of direction at the time while taking a shot at an undertaking. In any case, dissociative personality issue is an extreme type of separation, a mental procedure which delivers an absence of association in a man 's musings, recollections, emotions, activities, or feeling of character. Dissociative character issue is thought to originate from a blend of components that may incorporate injury experienced by the individual with the confusion. The dissociative viewpoint is thought to be a method for dealing with stress – the individual actually separates himself from a circumstance or experience that is excessively brutal, traumatic, or difficult to absorb with his cognizant self. The DSM 5 elaborates on cultural background as an influence for some clinical presentations of DID. Numerous components of dissociative identity disorder can be affected by the individual 's social foundation. People with this issue may give unmistakable restoratively unexplained neurological side effects, for example, non–epileptic seizures, incapacitates, or tactile misfortune, ... Because of this, viewers only hear about extreme aspects of DID and the majority of the ones they hear of are simply not accurate. For example, the media almost always assigns a maniacal alter to a patient, which, in reality, is uncommon. This year, 2017, a movie called Split, depicted a man suffering from DID. His alters grew in power and created an identity called the "Beast", who was capable of changing his own body into a taller and stronger "creature" who then starts a bone– shaking killing spree. This kind of alter is incredibly rare in Dissociative identity disorder cases. • 23. The Silence Of The Lambs Exceptionality and Geniuses The term 'genius' is associated with an array of diverse connotations. When reviewing the literature, it is vital to note that a specific definition and approach to measure whether or not a person is a genius, is rather complex. Garber, M. (2002) declares "genius" as a special inflation and over time has "become a commodity, an ambition, and even a lifestyle." The underlying question is: how, and what makes an individual a prodigy? One may argue that completing an intelligence quotient (IQ) test will suffice and determine whether an individual exemplifies genius–like tendencies, as others argue otherwise. There are tendencies and certain behaviours that geniuses exhibit differing them from other individuals who are more or less considered "normal". Therefore, relationships with geniuses tend to differ as their intelligence and typical demeanor is peculiar. In the film The Silence of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme, one of the main characters, Hannibal Lecter portrays unusual behaviour. Based on his questionable character, one may argue that genius–like behaviour is conspicuous; this is seen through his relationships, his intellect, and overall demeanor. The relationships observed in the movie The Silence of the Lambs depicts thoughtful but suspicious intent. A female FBI trainee, Clarice Starling was put on a case to get to know Hannibal Lecter's character; his thought process, responses, and interactions were monitored thoroughly. Clarice ... • 31. Classical Music And The Romantic Era Beginning circa 1820, and ending around 1910 (Paterson, 2017), the Romantic period followed the Classical era, marking the introduction of many changes to the overall sound and composition of music. The increased use of large orchestras, combined with the use of chromaticism and modulations, expressional devices such as dynamics, and sweeping melodies, led to a large amount of emotion being conveyed in pieces of music. An example featuring many of these techniques and features is Chopin's "Nocturne in E–flat major, Op. 9", No. 2, which was published in 1832 (AllMusic, 2017). 20th Century music, commonly referred to as "contemporary" music, followed the end of the Romantic period. The rise of popular music forms such as jazz, blues, and rock led to a large change in approach for the neoclassical composers, leading many into an avant–garde approach, such as John Cage. The introduction of electric amplification changed the overall sound of music, with new instruments being invented, as well as possibilities for foreign objects to be amplified. "Classical Gas", by Mason Williams (1968), was written for classical guitar, as Williams felt there was a limited classical guitar repertoire, particularly amongst the popular music of the 1960s. Thus, he wrote Classical Gas, a piece inspired by the Classical era, but involving more modern instrumentation and a contemporary flavour (Williams, 2013). The theme portrayed by Mason is that most people change along with their environment, with the exception of the few who are unwilling to adapt making it difficult for things such as marriage to work out successfully. These difficulties are apparent in Norma Jean and Leroy's marriage. As Norma Jean advances herself, their marriage ultimately collapses due to Leroy's unwillingness to adapt with her and the changing environment. Setting also comes into play by supporting the theme in the latter part of the story when Leroy and Norma Jean travel to a civil war battleground named Shiloh. On this ground a battle took place due to the clashing of two sides. One side was unwilling to adapt, similar to Leroy's unwillingness. While they are at the battle ground Norma Jean tells Leroy that their marriage is over, like she is ending a war that has been going on for too long. The setting of the battleground accentuates the decline of Norma Jean and Leroy's marriage ultimately coming to an end. The story of "Shiloh" is an example of what happens when a person is unwilling to adapt to his or her environment, ultimately resulting in a conflict and an ending. As Norma Jean adapts to her environment, Leroy is unwilling to adapt and is left behind resulting as the end of their marriage. The General Function Of A Female Slave A slave was then basically anyone who was not white, but color was forced to have a master in which all of the commands that came out of their mouths definitely would have to be done by a slave. Clarice Starling interviewed Dr. Hannibal Lecter to help her capture Buffalo Bill who is known for skinning young women. Film devices and techniques are important because it helps build suspense. The film techniques in The Silence of the Lambs help contribute to the element of suspense and horror. First, film devices and techniques in the scene where Buffalo Bill tortures Catherine Martin who is in the hole of Bill's house help support the element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this scene is the camera angles. It used a high and low camera angles. The low camera angle faced downwards when it is showing Catherine Martin making her seem small and weak. However, the high camera angle shows Buffalo Bill being seen at the top of the hole in the basement as he is looking down on Catherine Martin. This illustrates the power Buffalo Bill has over Catherine Martin as he laughs and tortures her. Another film device that is used in this scene is the sound. At the end of the scene, a strange music soundtrack plays in the background when Catherine Martin sees blood marks on the wall and screams out of fear. Buffalo Bill mocks her screams and movements which scares her even more. The third film device is the lighting. In the scene, Catherine Martin has no light in the hole making it dark and dull which makes it spooky. As soon as Buffalo Bill lowers the basket, the light captures Catherine's face as she sees the bloody marks of other victims who tried to climb out the hole.Next, film devices and techniques in the scene where Clarice Starling talks to Buffalo Bill about Fredrica Bimmel help support the element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this scene is parallel action. At the beginning of the scene, the camera switches from Buffalo Bill's house to where Mr. Crawford and the FBI investigators were at. It is parallel action because it builds suspense and it makes sure the audience is aware that Clarice Starling does not know that she is with Buffalo Bill. • 51. The Character Of Billy's 'The Landlady' The Landlady Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as "The Landlady" ends in a disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous ways to characterize Billy, a 17–year–old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath, England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and gullibility. The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity, but his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy as abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states "Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast" (Dahl 2). He subsequently says it was "fantastically cheap" (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as much. • 63. Conflict Essay Conflict essay: the relationship wish Nicole Robinson (davawna Davis) george mason university It is a fact that a lot of people would do anything to avoid a conflict. The truth is that no matter how we try avoiding a conflict, it still exists. It states in the book (Devito, 2010–2011,p.278) that "conflict is a part of every interpersonal relationship", it is unheard of to have relationship without having some type of conflict, but the key to it is how it is handled. A conflict in a relationship can either make or break your relationship. If it is still a little skeptical on how this is true here is an example. My boyfriend did not like to talk to me about what would bother him, especially when it would deal with me. That would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That act caught me in exactly what I was avoiding, a conflict that turned out bigger than it needed to be. One thing that I forgot about that a lot of people do not really think about is the positive effects that could come out of a conflict. We just get so used to assuming the negative is the only way that we forget about the second principle of conflict, conflict can have negative and positive effects. (Devito,2010–2011) Yes, a conflict can hurt a relationship, but in the end it is helping a relationship whether we see it or not. Had I not been afraid of the negative effects of having an argument with "Aaron" and telling him how I felt about the way he communicated with me the outcome of my fear would not have occurred to the escalation that it did, but my fear did effect the outcome, and even though there was a chance of us terminating the relationship we did not go through with it and the positive effect occurred. We had a better communication skill in our relationship. A conflict can either make or break any relationship, for me it made my relationship ten times better. A conflict has to have some type of focus to fuel it. Whether it is money, school, or someone's behavior it has a focus. This brings it to the next principle of conflict, conflict can focus on content or relationship issues.(Devito, 2010–2011) My conflict focused on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Wieel Wiesel Reflection In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, "I looked at my house in which I had spent years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty."(Wiesel 15) This passage really caught my attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he's saying that, as hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder and harder to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting because it gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were leaving everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them. Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage," The race to death had begun."(Wiesel 10) as an important style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from Sighet. I think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the text because, it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the use of personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they all have. While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, "He was poor and lived in utter penury."(Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this ... • 73. Loneliness And Isolation In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein In this excerpt of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the scene reveals the creature's desperation to befriend the DeLaceys to escape his loneliness. After approaching the old DeLacey, he expresses his yearning for companionship and protection from the family. However, Felix, Safie, and Agatha suddenly enter the hovel and confront the creature. The "horror" (96) on the faces of his friends and being struck "violently with a stick" (97) show the rejection that the creature experiences. His only link to humanity is broken and he is isolated from society. This passage exhibits the central theme of loneliness as experienced by the creature. The excerpt shows that loneliness is caused by rejection from society, companionship is desired, and isolation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is isolated from society, and it is proven when the DeLacey family rejects the creature for his appearance. This passage parallels the creature's first rejection by his own creator, Victor Frankenstein. Due to the his ugliness, Victor abandons his creation because of his "disgust" (35). As a result, the creature is left to explore the world on his own without guidance. His appearance causes him to be feared by nearly everyone he sees, and thus, he is isolated. Earlier, when the creature encounters an old man, he "shrieked loudly" (73) and ran out of his hut. His physique is such a cause of alarm for others, that even strangers leave their houses in fear. However, this passage shows the "kindness" that the blind DeLacey showed. Since he could not see, the old DeLacey was the only person who would listen to the creature, because he could not judge his appearance. He had empathy. Still, the creature faced rejection. Subsequently, he believed that "solitude [was his] only consolation" (61). The creature used isolation as a coping mechanism for his constant rejection. However, this only contributed to his loneliness and suffering. The creature even compares himself to the "devil" (93) to emphasise his seclusion. He uses this analogy to show his despair because even the enemy of God "had his companions" (93). Frankenstein's creation is physically and emotionally alone because he is the only one of his kind. He is not accepted because of his deformities. Therefore, rejection from society, is the cause of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intervention Programs ( Anjour ) Intervention Programs (Anjour) Early alert intervention programs can be beneficial to colleges to assist them with identifying students who are at risk of not being academically successful (Tampke, 2012–2013; Bryan & Simmons, 2009). Equally important, students entering college for the first time encounter significant changes from those encountered in high school as the academic demands are usually more rigorous. In addition, some freshman students struggle with academic success, which impacts persistence; therefore, early intervention programs should be considered. According to Vanthournout, Coertjens, Donche, and Van Petegem (2012), student academic persistence is an expected outcome of early intervention programs. Learning Methods Course. Tuckman and Kennedy (2011) compared a group of 702 freshman college students at a large mid–western university: half of the students took a learning methods course, and half of the students did not take the course. The purpose of the course was to assist students with increasing accountability, self–esteem, learning modality, readiness skills, and managing their personal responsibilities. Data from the study concluded that students who completed the methods course had a higher rate of persistence towards academic achievement, and graduated at a higher rate than the students who did not take the course. Moreover, the occurrence of graduating was 50% greater for those students who were experiencing academic difficulty. For this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
