Masculinity In Detective Fiction
The concept of masculinity and its relationship with and response to societal values is reflected in
the genre of detective fiction, most markedly through the figure of the detective. To delineate the
ideology of masculinity is to suggest that males behavior reflects not just their male role identity, or
their level of masculine traits, but the conception of masculinitythey internalize from their culture.
As male norms vary culture to culture and evolve generation to generation, masculinity ideology
also differs across cultures and generations. Masculinity as presented in detective fiction changes
with history based on its use value for specific time periods (what society requires of it at certain
times), reinforcing certain ideologies and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These classic figures solved mysteries through observation and logical deduction in a reflection of
Victorian ideals of manhood. They were consistently able to walk into a crime scene or converse
with an individual and immediately construe detailed and accurate conclusions that would serve to
eventually solve the investigation. Both introverted bourgeois gentlemen, they assumed positions
outside of society; they possessed neither families nor much of a social life, were bachelors that did
not engage in intimate behaviors with women, and were uninvolved in state and social institutions
of power (namely the police force). As esteemed author John Cawelti points out, Doyle affirms
many of the values of traditional British culture through his sleuth by making him embody the
combination of solidity, morality and eccentricity so central to the ideal of the British gentry...
(Cawelti 6), as most of the detectives of the 1910s and 1920s did, because that was considered
appropriate for gentlemen of the time period. This strong emphasis on the values of Anglo
American bourgeois culture, revealed through the mannerisms of Holmes and Dupin, affirmed the
notion of bourgeois individualism and the idea that private individuals have the power to work
alongside the state in order to eliminate chaos in the interest of the dominant

Mark to Market Accounting
Running head: Mark to Market Accounting
Mark to Market Accounting and Ethical Issues
Ethical Issues ACC 504
April 16, 2012
Abstract
Economic principle s rationale for requiring guidance for financial institutions is to use mark to
market accounting or fair value accounting on their financial reports. With the current economic
crisis, questions have been raised as to whether or not fair value accounting is making this crisis
worse. In this paper I review the history of fair value accounting and the ethics behind whether fair
value accounting gives an accurate picture or is it causing a need for higher capital requirements
and unnecessary concern with investors. There is a need for transparency. It is Accounting

This objections implies that a company may be cash poor with valuable assets, this ignores the fact
that a company can use temporary financing to fund current operations with future cash flows. 4.
Valuations may be flawed or imperfect. This is an understandable objection, because some assets
are more easily valued than others. That does not mean though that fair value method should not be
used when the alternative method is just as flawed.
When we look at a benefit of the fair value accounting method we see that a firm will behave
differently, and will take this method into consideration when they are purchasing this asset. The
decisions tend to be less risky if they know that they will have to devalue the asset in the future.
Bad decisions would be something that they would have to identify publicly with future marking
to market. Companies would no longer have a motivation to sell assets for the benefit of
recognizing an accounting gain. Historically a major financial event or crisis prompts
reconsideration of accounting rules governing reported asset valuations. The credit crisis in 2008
generated reconsideration. In the 1980 s the savings and loan crisis prompted accounting rules
move away from historical cost accounting. Had there been a fair value accounting system in place
in the 1980 s the savings and loan crisis would have not taken years to realize. The banks had made
long term mortgage loans and borrowed short term. When the interest

The Is A Efficient Mode Of Transportation
Over the years, cycling has been proven to be the cleanest and most efficient mode of
transportation, which explains the increasing demand to further develop its sustainability (Tripodi
2015, p. 143). Bike sharing systems have provided a means of transportation in dense cities with
their minor infrastructure requirements and promise of a cleaner future. Public bicycleprograms
have grown in popularity in recent years because of their initiatives to increase cycle usage, the
benefit of connectivity without the troubles of personal vehicles, and the decrease of
environmental impacts as a result of our transport activities (DeMaio 2009, p. 41). The original
concept of these systems had many flaws, but as technology has developed to improve the
tracking system, rapid expansion continues throughout Europe and across the globe. With
growing climate change and the dependence on oil becoming more of a problem, people are
beginning to look towards more responsible ways of living (Vidalis, et al. 2010, p. 1). Driving less
is one of the easiest ways to reduce one s carbon footprint, and is a key factor in the success
surrounding increased cycling. In the U.S., over 50 percent of all car trips are five miles or less
(Vidalis, et al. 2010, p. 3). By cutting down on unnecessary car trips, the release of air pollutants
such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and lead could be drastically reduced in
larger cities. The environmental benefits, along with the health aspect

How Successfully Did the National Government Deal with the...
How successfully did the National Government deal with the economic problems of the 1930s? In
dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain
was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to
say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a
peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot
the economy and lessen the impact on the people. The National Government were successful in
some aspects of softening the blow in Britain. Faced with a steep decline in international trade the;
partly due to America s protectionist tariffs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the most direct (and somewhat vague) policy The Special Areas Act of 1934, money was to be
applied to the worst affected areas, but this was dependent on their income and the result was many
of the poorest people did not apply. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only ВЈ2 million.
These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course
of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to
gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain
now found itself in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales
where 33% of men now found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton,
iron, steel and shipbuilding, known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The
coal pits of north Wales were finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near
Newcastle were so bad that the men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It
accomplished very little but to show just how bad the north of England had been hit. The south
meanwhile suffered heavily from cyclical unemployment, wherein the employee would latch onto
short term work, finish the contract and become unemployed and then find something else. But
even then, the unemployment level for the South east never fell below 15% during the 1930s, in

An important issue regarding business ethics is the theory of moral hazard which occurs when a
person or business behaves differently when insulated from a certain risk. Moral hazard theory
states that when a person or business is insured against the consequences of a particular event, this
increases incentive for the insured to behave in a way that will cause the event (Glassman, 2009).
The current government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler provides a vivid demonstration of
moral hazard. In order to prevent bankruptcy, the Canadian government bought stakes in both
companies totalling 14 billion dollars (Watson, 2009). Chrysler is now owned by Fiat while GM
has appointed several Canadian government officials as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The package also includes special license plates that allow Volt owners to drive in transit lanes.
McGuinty claimed that this package will encourage Canadians to buy greener vehicles. However,
the Ford Fusion, Honda Insight and Toyota Prius, none of which come with a subsidy package,
are all more fuel efficient, and therefore greener , than the Volt (Morgan, 2009). There is no reason
for GM to improve the Volt s design or fuel efficiency because the stimulus package alone gives
them a competitive advantage. This is a blatant attempt at policy changing in order to promote a
company in which the government has stakes. A moral hazard exists in this case not only when
these companies are facing bankruptcy, but also for during product development and promotion.
Overall, the Canadian government s bailout of these automobile manufacturers was a mistake. Not
only is it illogical to financially reward a company that reacted poorly to economic uncertainty, it
also creates an immense moral hazard. Since the rescue package has done very little to protect
Canadian jobs and goes against public and expert opinions, it only seems to be benefitting the
executives that created a need for the bailout in the first place. As a result, automobile
manufacturers as well as other corporations will begin to believe that no matter how many bad

How John Coltrane Influenced Jazz
The alto saxophonist, John Coltrane, was one of the most cultural ethical leaders of avant garde
jazz, in the 1960 s. He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of
contemporary jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed
them to question and change the whole idea of jazzitself. Coltrane was the type of musician who
believed that he could always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see
him always practicing his music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a
lot of the different styles of jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music
from different backgrounds so that he could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist
we have learned this semester, so far, Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion
for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work and passion he had for jazz. Even though he had already

Charlie Parker was a big inspiration to him, so much that Coltrane s sound of jazz was quite
similar to Parker s even though he did not play the same exact thing like other musician s would
do with Parker s music. Coltrane s music involved the use of scales, pedal points, multiphonics,
free improvisation, and shifting rhythms. He was obsessed with scales, he would practice them
whenever he could. He would also try to practice playing every note in every chord he could. In
fact, Kind of Blue, is one of his most influential pieces, it is considered a test pattern for music
students attempting to master fast moving harmonies. He was an inspiration to many upcoming
jazz musicians, instead of sticking to the classics, he tried to teach upcoming musicians to think
outside the box and think of fresh ideas that had not been done

example, Kevin Lewis is a fictionalized and renamed representation of a real person while all of
the other characters are composites of more than one real person. Lewis is a graduate student at
MIT and is recruited by some of his roommates to participate in a group of organized card

and uses a variety of techniques to win at blackjack. Lewis is introduced to the techniques and

their best players. Over time, the group s membership changes as older members are excluded and
new members are recruited. After about one year, Lewis is the head of his own team within the

Theory Of Purchasing Power Parity
Literature Review
Theory Development
Dating back to the XVI century, the theory of purchasing power parity are developed and studied
since then in Spain. However, this theory of PPP attracts the scholars till the XX century due to
the contribution of a Swedish scholar Gustav Cassel in 1910s (Taylor, 2006). Cassel presented
PPP theory using an equivalent term theoretical rate of exchange three years ago before he first
defined the term PPP and place it into a systematic framework. Additionally, Cassel is also the first
person who tested PPP empirically. The cumulative CPI inflationrates of different countries are
suggested to be calculated and used to obtain the most effective exchange rate by Cassel to maintain
the parity of purchasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noticed that LOP holds only when transaction costs are ignored and the trading goods
are identical. However, LOP does not always hold in practice, according to Taylor and Taylor
(2004), factors like tariffs, transportation costs, non tariffs barriers and transaction costs violate the
LOP. Engel and Rogers found that there is a positive relationship between the price differentials
and the distance between cities in their study of comparable goods price differentials in US and
Canada, it is obvious that transportation costs is the main factor that cause this price differential.
As for Absolute Purchasing Power Parity, it is a more comprehensive way to measure PPP and its
equation is as follows:
∑в
–’P_i =E∑в
–’P_i^*
In which the sums are consumer price index instead of the good price. CPI represents the
fluctuation of goods prices in a period and it contains a basket of different goods so can bring
PPP to a more general situation. However, there are some problems associated with the absolute
version of PPP. It needs to be considered that which CPI should be taken into account and how to
deal with the fluctuation of CPI over time.
In order to overcome the problems associated with the absolute version of PPP, the relative PPP is
introduced. It is similar to

Leggio s murder of Placido Rizzotto, a resistance veteran, is on the most noteworthy murders of a

power of group lie with its military prowess, rather than their political influence. The Corleonesi
functioned under the plan of using devastating violence to get what they want while suffering short
term political loss. The Corleonesi continued their fight against the Navarra and as they were about
to claim victory against the Navarra, the Ciaculli car bomb went off which led to mass arrests of
mafia members, including Leggio. Leggio s trial is carried out very similar to the ways of other
mafia trails, such as Notarbartolo s murder trial, where evidence is lost, and defendants do not talk,

When it comes to differentiated instruction, there is none. When it comes to the student whose L1
is not English, she is stuck guessing on many of their assessments. Many times, the language of the
test is content specific academic language, which is much more difficult for the individual to
understand. This could easily be adjusted by, making sure the student is taught the specific
language throughout the lesson and unit. Another course of action would be to differentiate the
assessment by adjusting the language so that the L2 is comprehensible to the student.
Language Allocation in Classroom Within the Spanish speaking community at this charter school,
there is little to no L1 used during the school day. The students instruction does now allow for the
individuals L1 to be used. Occasionally, when the students are not having a silent lunch or when
they are given recess, there will be murmurs in the students L1. Aside from the occasional
conversations during recess or lunch time, the students do not speak in their native language at
school. The teacher does

order achieve those beliefs. I never thought I would go because I did not know much about

questions in a format and analyze my experience. This projected allowed me to go a place and

how Buddhism worked. They seem like they would have a different approach on things. I
remember in my Pre History Eastern course briefly talk about Buddhism. One thing I found
interesting was they seek nirvana. A state where they find peace. Although, the religion is also in

In addition to the fact that Peter could not enjoy domestic happiness, he is also unable to form

heartlessness that is attached to forgetfulness and narcissism. Firstly, his narcissism lies in the
fact that he does not truly care about anyone except himself. Consequently, Peter never noticed
how short Wendy s dress become at the end of the first year because he had so much about

I personally think that writer wanted to emphasis the importance of growing up but at the same
time remain a little child inside and it is totally different from just remaining a child and rejecting
the adulthood as Peter does. For example, there was very childish deed when James Hook was
doomed to death and invited Peter with a gesture to use his foot . Even though Capitan was
dying he was calm and almost happy because of Peter s bad forms . Likewise, Mr. Darling, as the
writer pointed out, might have passed for a boy again if he had been able to take his baldness
off . Also, the fact that he ceased to be sensitive to the opinion of neighbours , nearly lived in the

situation made him feel gratifying and he became sweeter . Lastly, Wendy herself is a direct

Oil Drilling Endangers Arctic National Wildlife Riches Can you imagine the grocery stores and

to the Gwich in village, caribou do not go near the area anymore. The villagers can hardly find any

with the timely process of packing up your goods and moving them, across town, across states or
across country.
Hiring a moving company can help lighten your load on moving day. However, it is important to
hire the right moving company. Many moving companies do not have the experience to make sure
your items will arrive safely, so how do you select the right mover in the Tulsa area?
Selecting a Mover in Tulsa
Use these tips below to help you choose a mover that you can have confidence in once moving day
comes around.

to ask questions. Find out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ask the moving company if they have a check list that they use and ask for a copy yourself. It is
important that everything that goes into the truck is noted on paper and that you get a copy.
Moving What kind of vehicle does the moving company use? You want to know that the truck is
large enough to carry your valuables and that it is clean and safe. You don t want your couch being
squashed into a little truck that is full of dirt and debris.
Ask how long the move will take estimated on the size of your current space and if they charge
by the hour or a flat fee? Charging by the hour can be dangerous especially if the movers decide to
take several breaks during the move.
Cost Cheaper isn t always better. After you have asked questions about how the move will go
ahead, ask for a price quote. You can then compare what each company offers with the services they
offer during the move.
Reviews Before choosing a moving company, ask friends, family and coworkers for any
feedback on local moving companies. You can also go online and search for individual
companies, online is a great place to find ratings and opinions on each mover. If there is no
information on a certain company it may be best to leave that company off your

1. Our brains are constantly developing and with technology developing almost just as rapidly,
we should be cautious of the amount of time we spend tuned in to our devices. 2. Technology is
the culprit of a new wave of mental disorders that are developed after birth. Dr. Larry D. Rosen is
a professor emeritus and is a former chair of the Department of Psychology at California State
University in Dominguez Hills, California and is also an internationally acclaimed expert on
how technology affects the mind. Dr. Rosen lists that symptoms of an iDisorder are changes in
the way our brains process information and our abilities to connect to our environment. C. Lastly,
technology has a profound effect on our senses. 1. Dr. O.D. Sikes, professional optometrist and
chairman of the North Carolina State Optometric Society Para Optometric Education Committee,
states that twenty eight percent of people spend ten or more hours a day in front of a digital
device and that this amount of exposure can lead to digital eye strain. 2. Technology s connection
to our brains has affected our reflexes. There have been instances where people have found
themselves trying to pinch enlarge people from a distance in real life. (Now since we know how

Power System fault is defined as undesirable condition that occurs in the power system. These
undesirable conditions such as short circuit, current leakage, ground short, over current and
overvoltage and over temperature.
With the increasing loads, voltages and short circuit duty in distribution system, over current
protection has become more important today. The ability of protection system is demanded not
only for economic reason but also consumers just expect reliable service. In a Power System
Protection, the system engineer would need a device that can monitor current, voltage, frequency,
temperature and in some case over power in the system. Thus a device called Protective Relay is
created to serve the purpose. The protective relay is most often relay coupled with Circuit Breaker
such that it can isolate the abnormal condition in the system. In the interest of reliable

GPA Examination
GPA EXEMPTION ESSAY I grew up in the 90 s, the golden age of video games. My perspective of
life was similar to a video; one must continue to play the game to go to the next level. If one gives
up, they will never progress. There are many different levels to life. In college, I passed a number
of levels. However, I continued to repeat the same course. That is why my grade point average
was low. One day, I was sitting in the back of class and unknowingly drifted to sleep. I heard a
gentle voice whisper, My dear what is your purpose? As my eyes opened, I felt embarrassed. I
awoken to an empty class and Professor Meadows stood over me. I was too drowsy to respond. So
professor Meadows continued to speak, Octavia I notice you put forth little effort, yet you have

The Soviet Threat, As Experienced By The United States...
Section I: Identification and Evaluation of Sources
This investigation will explore the question: To what extent was propaganda used to show the
Soviet threat, as experienced by the United States, during the Red Scare of the Cold War? The
scope of this investigation will be 1947 1957, to allow for analysis of the era of McCarthyism, as
well as the evolution of Anti Communism in American society.
The origin of the first source being evaluated is the book, Total Cold War
: Eisenhower s Secret
Propaganda Battle at Home and Abroad, which was written by Kenneth Osgood and published in
Lawrence, Kansas in 2006. The purpose of this source was to chronicle the secret psychological
warfare programs that the United States developed during the ... Show more content on

The author presented information on propagandist strategies and how, theoretically, to
psychologically affect an audience, but never presented information on the actual effect. Another
limitation of this source was that the chapter titles were not allusive to the content of the chapter,
they were very vague.
The origin of the second source being evaluated is an essay called The Role of the Media during
the Cold War which was written by Alexander Stafford at Queen s University of Belfast and
published on October 16, 2013. The purpose of this source was to explain the role of the media
during the Cold War and how it produced and maintained cultural antagonism. The content of this
source included information on the development, distribution, and importance of political
propaganda. This source was organized in a way where claims were presented, supported by facts,
and then validated. A value of this source is that the content included a lot of information on the
public opinion of the Cold War. This allowed for further expansion within the research question of
this investigation. Another value of this source was that the sources used hold validity, which
further benefits this investigation. A limitation of this source is that the content omitted
information on all forms of media, such as film and print. The author stated these mediums, but did

The Future Of Transportation, Electricity, And Energy
When Benjamin Franklin first discovered electricity, it was one of the biggest discoveries known
to mankind. Even though our dependence on electricity is enormous, it is still easy to forget just
how dependent we are on electricity. Electricity has played a huge part in our everyday lives and
will continue to do so. In fact, it is quite hard to imagine humanity without electricity. When it
comes to transportation, electricity will someday rewrite the history books. One of the most
important issues in the future of transportation is to decrease emissions. The amount of people
that are driving individual vehicles will also need to be reduced. One of the bigger problems is that

This is because they are supposed to give power during a large amount of time. In result, deep
cycle batteries are used instead of SLI batteries for these applications. Many current technologies
have much lower specific energy which impacts the maximum all electric range of the vehicles.
On the other hand, metal air batteries have high specific energy because the cathode is provided
by the surrounding oxygen in the air. One definite application of electromagnetic technology
relates to a form of transportation that might appear to be old news at first, which is trains.
However, magnetic levitation trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the
Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from the Wright brothers experimental airplane. Those type
of engines most likely laid the ground work for the other engines even though they are very old

common variables to physics terms and a brief overview of the laws of chemistry dealing with
magnetism is very important. This is so important because most of, if not all the equations used to
determine how the Maglev trains move is derived from formulas used to calculate electric current.

service standards, proper staffing is crucial to an organization #65533;s success. In spite of the
importance of having a top notch workforce, many considerations crucial to developing that
effective workforce were overlooked at Euro Disney. Staffing shortages created a negative cycle

hurt their ability to attract employees. Seeking to address the shortages created by this high

employees. Communication barriers in the workplace were created by language and cultural gaps

The Most Influential Writers Of The Twentieth Century
Through out Frank Kafka s life he wrote many German novels and short stories. Kafka has been
known to be one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. From Kafka s writing
he shows that what we go through influences in our life influences what we write and how we
write and that sometimes the things we go through are so hard that we need to write in allegory.
He was born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia. He was born into a middle class German speaking
Jewish family and was the eldest of six children. His two younger brothers died at a very young
age and his sisters were sent to a concentration camp and were thought to have died there. After
Kafka graduated high school, he was accepted to the Charles University of Prague and studied
law. This is where he met Max Brod and they became very good friends. Kafka graduated
university with a degree in Doctor of Law on June 18,1906. He started working at Workers
Accident Insurance Institute in Bohemia. He gained several promotions through the years that
he worked there but was also very committed to his writing. In 1917 Kafka began to suffer from
tuberculosis that would require a lot of time for recovering. Surrounding him self with his

The s Relationship With Abraxas
Olsen goes on to ask important questions when it comes to the Templars relationship with
Abraxas, such as why the Templars used the Abraxas seal and did the Order use it like Lamy
suggested? And if they did use it, was it utilized by an inner secret circle of Templars? Olsen also
mentions a mysterious text called the Levitikon, which is probably written in the early 1800 s
which presents Jesus as an initiate of the Egyptian higher mysteries, just as Simon Magus is
depicted in the Clementines. Further onward, Olsen writes (p. 123): In 1877 a German Masonic
specialist named Merzdorf claimed to have found, among other Masonic manuscripts, two Latin
Rules of Templars (purported to date from the 13th Century). One was the Rule for the chosen
brothers, and the other for the consoled brothers. The first Rule describes the church as the
Synagogue of Anti Christ, and stipulates an elect reception ceremony (involving various ritual
kisses one on the male member and including readings from open verses from the Koran). The
latter Rule implies strongly the Templars shared the doctrines of the Cathars, including that of the
consolamentum, or mystical baptism. Still authenticity of these has yet to be determined. What is
the most tantalizing of what Oslen is saying here is that there is a Medieval text from 1240 called
The Book of the Baptism of Fire which was transcribed by Robert Standford, the Grand Master in
England. In this text, it talks about more about these

I Disagree With Kenneth Waltz’S Positionthat Nuclear...
I disagree with Kenneth Waltz s position that nuclear proliferation makes the world a safer place,
and how best to measure the spread of nuclear weapons, particularly in regimes that are
developing, unstable, or third world. 1 While some scholars see nuclear weapons as a threat to
stability and peace due to their mass destruction capability and the potential for horrific fallout
triggered by ethnic and geopolitical instability, others see those weapons as holding the power to
maintain an appropriate balance of power between opposing regimes at times of tension and during
periods of low level conflict. This debate is reflected in international relations.
Waltz argues that nuclear weapons keep the world secure, as states would not take the ... Show more

As for second strike deterrence, Waltz states that there are two necessities: survival of a first
attack and the ability to inflict sufficient damage. Without absolute certainty of destruction of the
opposition s arsenal, a country would be less likely to attack. Because of uncertainty about the
size of another country s arsenal size, nations would not take the risk of retaliation; Even the
largest states recoil from taking adventurous steps if the price of failure is the possible loss of a
city or two 1. The problem I see with this position is that nations may sometimes benefit from
spotting signatures that are carelessly sent to enemy intelligence agencies which may inadvertently
reveal secret information about the size and location of otherwise hidden military forces. For
example, Pakistani road construction crews inadvertently signaled the location of secret M 11
missiles by placing wide radius roads at Sargodha Missile Base . The failure of the Soviet military
to keep its 1962 missile deployment in Cuba secret was similarly caused by construction crew
routines that produced signatures which highlighted the location of the missiles. The Star of David
pattern of air defense missile battery placements and slash marks on missile pads gave away the
Cuban secret to the Americans.
Regarding the accidental use of nuclear weapons, Waltz dismisses this

After watching What s Eating Gilbert Grape it s clear that Gilbert has a lot of problems and

To start, the least significant of Gilbert s problems was his sister Amy. At the start of the movie
Gilbert says Amy was their mother, since she made all of the meals and took care of the family.
Amy doesn t interfere with Gilbert during the movie.

There are several reasons for this. One is that Gilbert is the only person who takes care of Arnie.
Another reason is Arnie s obsession of trying to climb the town s water tower. At the beginning
of the movie we see Arnie trying to climb the tower only getting half way up the ladder when
Gilbert gets him down. Also during Gilbert and Becky s talks Arnie runs off and successful

before his birthday, we see Amy making a cake which after running around the house Arnie
bumps into Amy thus making her drop the cake and making Gilbert go get a new cake from
FoodLand. When he leaves the store he is greeted by his boss from Lamson s Grocery who
doesn t like FoodLand. At home, Gilbert puts the new cake in the fridge and tells Arine not to eat
it. While blowing up balloons, Gilbert looks towards the kitchen where he sees Arine eating the

Analysis On Desert Valley s Budget Adjustment
INTERNAL MEMO TO: Marcus Chelford, Ted Amero, and Fernando Lapan FROM: Li Chan,
CPA DATE:December 2, 2014 SUBJECT: Activity 2A Budget Adjustment The purpose of this
memo is to describe the impact of the change in commodity prices on Desert Valley s budget and
suggest ways to mitigate this threat. We conducted some sensitivity analysis on Desert Valley s
budget to determine the expected impact of a 2% increase in the price of malt barley and wheat
grain. This is especially important given the fact that customers are not willing to increase prices
to compensate for the rising cost of these commodities. This puts pressure on Desert Valley to
absorb these price shocks and still meet its other financial objectives. As one would expect, a 2%
increase on direct materials will lead to an increase in variable costs and in turn, a decrease in
profits and contribution margin. The budget impact of this change equates to ($73,322) which
represents a (1.06%) hit to profits and a (0.86%) change in contribution margin. This shows that at
this point, small percentage changes in commodity prices have a relatively minor impact on the
company s financial position. However, if commodity prices continue to fluctuate further or if
production volumes increase then this may become a more prevalent issue. To mitigate the risk of
future commodity price changes it is recommended that Desert Valley adopt a hedging program by
purchasing forward contracts. This would allow the company to

Health Issues Of The Elizabethan Time
The Elizabethan era was not only a period of rations medical science, but also a time of great
superstition. Medicine remained attached to astrology and other beliefs such as the supernatural.
Elizabethan times was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare lived. However the
times were very unsanitary. People threw their trash out the window and if their dog or cat died,
they would throw that out the window also. When it rained, cats and dogs would flow down the

The amounts of these fluids determined a person s physical or mental health. A person with a
dominant presence of blood was supposedly happy and generous. A dominance of yellow bile
meant that the person was violent and vengeful. An excess of phlegm resulted in a person being

body according to the Elizabethans were the heart, liver, and the brain. The liver was considered
the great blood forming, nutrition giving organ from which the four fluids arose. It was also
considered the origin of the veins which spread throughout the body. Elizabethans believed the
heart to be the center of life. The heart was the place of affections and emotions joy, anger, hope,

Many physicians in Elizabethan England held medical degrees from Oxford or Cambridge

Dichotomy Between Eastern And Western Religions
Myths are culturally accepted stories that humans have orally constructed and passed on from
generation to generation to serve our larger perception of life and humanity. Further, myths help
guide us in their teachings about creation, good and evil, mortality, and suffering. However, these
myths contrast between Eastern and Western regions. Eastern regions depart from Western regions
in terms of their religious influence. Religionin Eastern regions helps shape the importance of
humans relationship with a higher power through the embodiment of rituals and sacrifices much
like in Native American and Shinto religious beliefs. Although Eastern regions branch from these
diverse cultures, they centralize on the belief that the relationship between Godand humans is
universal and essential for humanlife.

This objections implies that a company may be cash poor with valuable assets, this ignores the fact that a company can use temporary financing to fund current operations with future cash flows. 4. Valuations may be flawed or imperfect. This is an understandable objection, because some assets are more easily valued than others. That does not mean though that fair value method should not be used when the alternative method is just as flawed. When we look at a benefit of the fair value accounting method we see that a firm will behave differently, and will take this method into consideration when they are purchasing this asset. The decisions tend to be less risky if they know that they will have to devalue the asset in the future. Bad decisions would be something that they would have to identify publicly with future marking to market. Companies would no longer have a motivation to sell assets for the benefit of recognizing an accounting gain. Historically a major financial event or crisis prompts reconsideration of accounting rules governing reported asset valuations. The credit crisis in 2008 generated reconsideration. In the 1980 s the savings and loan crisis prompted accounting rules move away from historical cost accounting. The Is A Efficient Mode Of Transportation Over the years, cycling has been proven to be the cleanest and most efficient mode of transportation, which explains the increasing demand to further develop its sustainability (Tripodi 2015, p. 143). Bike sharing systems have provided a means of transportation in dense cities with their minor infrastructure requirements and promise of a cleaner future. Public bicycleprograms have grown in popularity in recent years because of their initiatives to increase cycle usage, the benefit of connectivity without the troubles of personal vehicles, and the decrease of environmental impacts as a result of our transport activities (DeMaio 2009, p. 41). The original concept of these systems had many flaws, but as technology has developed to improve the tracking system, rapid expansion continues throughout Europe and across the globe. With growing climate change and the dependence on oil becoming more of a problem, people are beginning to look towards more responsible ways of living (Vidalis, et al. 2010, p. 1). Driving less is one of the easiest ways to reduce one s carbon footprint, and is a key factor in the success surrounding increased cycling. In the U.S., over 50 percent of all car trips are five miles or less (Vidalis, et al. 2010, p. 3). In dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the economy and lessen the impact on the people. In the most direct (and somewhat vague) policy The Special Areas Act of 1934, money was to be applied to the worst affected areas, but this was dependent on their income and the result was many of the poorest people did not apply. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only ВЈ2 million. These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain now found itself in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales where 33% of men now found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton, iron, steel and shipbuilding, known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The coal pits of north Wales were finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near Newcastle were so bad that the men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It accomplished very little but to show just how bad the north of England had been hit. • 7. Automobile Industry Auto Industry 2009 An important issue regarding business ethics is the theory of moral hazard which occurs when a person or business behaves differently when insulated from a certain risk. Moral hazard theory states that when a person or business is insured against the consequences of a particular event, this increases incentive for the insured to behave in a way that will cause the event (Glassman, 2009). The current government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler provides a vivid demonstration of moral hazard. In order to prevent bankruptcy, the Canadian government bought stakes in both companies totalling 14 billion dollars (Watson, 2009). However, the Ford Fusion, Honda Insight and Toyota Prius, none of which come with a subsidy package, are all more fuel efficient, and therefore greener , than the Volt (Morgan, 2009). There is no reason for GM to improve the Volt s design or fuel efficiency because the stimulus package alone gives them a competitive advantage. This is a blatant attempt at policy changing in order to promote a company in which the government has stakes. A moral hazard exists in this case not only when these companies are facing bankruptcy, but also for during product development and promotion. Overall, the Canadian government s bailout of these automobile manufacturers was a mistake. Not only is it illogical to financially reward a company that reacted poorly to economic uncertainty, it also creates an immense moral hazard. Since the rescue package has done very little to protect Canadian jobs and goes against public and expert opinions, it only seems to be benefitting the executives that created a need for the bailout in the first place. As a result, automobile manufacturers as well as other corporations will begin to believe that no matter how many bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed them to question and change the whole idea of jazzitself. Coltrane was the type of musician who believed that he could always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see him always practicing his music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a lot of the different styles of jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music from different backgrounds so that he could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist we have learned this semester, so far, Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work and passion he had for jazz. My perspective of life was similar to a video; one must continue to play the game to go to the next level. If one gives up, they will never progress. There are many different levels to life. In college, I passed a number of levels. However, I continued to repeat the same course. That is why my grade point average was low. One day, I was sitting in the back of class and unknowingly drifted to sleep. I heard a gentle voice whisper, My dear what is your purpose? As my eyes opened, I felt embarrassed. And if they did use it, was it utilized by an inner secret circle of Templars? Olsen also mentions a mysterious text called the Levitikon, which is probably written in the early 1800 s which presents Jesus as an initiate of the Egyptian higher mysteries, just as Simon Magus is depicted in the Clementines. Further onward, Olsen writes (p. 123): In 1877 a German Masonic specialist named Merzdorf claimed to have found, among other Masonic manuscripts, two Latin Rules of Templars (purported to date from the 13th Century). One was the Rule for the chosen brothers, and the other for the consoled brothers. The first Rule describes the church as the Synagogue of Anti Christ, and stipulates an elect reception ceremony (involving various ritual kisses one on the male member and including readings from open verses from the Koran). The latter Rule implies strongly the Templars shared the doctrines of the Cathars, including that of the consolamentum, or mystical baptism. Still authenticity of these has yet to be determined. What is the most tantalizing of what Oslen is saying here is that there is a Medieval text from 1240 called The Book of the Baptism of Fire which was transcribed by Robert Standford, the Grand Master in England. As for second strike deterrence, Waltz states that there are two necessities: survival of a first attack and the ability to inflict sufficient damage. Without absolute certainty of destruction of the opposition s arsenal, a country would be less likely to attack. Because of uncertainty about the size of another country s arsenal size, nations would not take the risk of retaliation; Even the largest states recoil from taking adventurous steps if the price of failure is the possible loss of a city or two 1. The problem I see with this position is that nations may sometimes benefit from spotting signatures that are carelessly sent to enemy intelligence agencies which may inadvertently reveal secret information about the size and location of otherwise hidden military forces. For example, Pakistani road construction crews inadvertently signaled the location of secret M 11 missiles by placing wide radius roads at Sargodha Missile Base . The failure of the Soviet military to keep its 1962 missile deployment in Cuba secret was similarly caused by construction crew routines that produced signatures which highlighted the location of the missiles. The Star of David pattern of air defense missile battery placements and slash marks on missile pads gave away the Cuban secret to the Americans. Analysis On Desert Valley s Budget Adjustment INTERNAL MEMO TO: Marcus Chelford, Ted Amero, and Fernando Lapan FROM: Li Chan, CPA DATE:December 2, 2014 SUBJECT: Activity 2A Budget Adjustment The purpose of this memo is to describe the impact of the change in commodity prices on Desert Valley s budget and suggest ways to mitigate this threat. We conducted some sensitivity analysis on Desert Valley s budget to determine the expected impact of a 2% increase in the price of malt barley and wheat grain. This is especially important given the fact that customers are not willing to increase prices to compensate for the rising cost of these commodities. This puts pressure on Desert Valley to absorb these price shocks and still meet its other financial objectives. As one would expect, a 2% increase on direct materials will lead to an increase in variable costs and in turn, a decrease in profits and contribution margin. The budget impact of this change equates to ($73,322) which represents a (1.06%) hit to profits and a (0.86%) change in contribution margin. This shows that at this point, small percentage changes in commodity prices have a relatively minor impact on the company s financial position. However, if commodity prices continue to fluctuate further or if production volumes increase then this may become a more prevalent issue. To mitigate the risk of future commodity price changes it is recommended that Desert Valley adopt a hedging program by purchasing forward contracts. This would allow the company to ...
