English Figurative Language Summative Assessment Essay
This task is focused on the assessment components of two ELL students, Vicente Flores, and Mingyu
Wong. Vicente Flores is one grade level below his current grade. He does have a learning plan which
consists of a shortened test, oral answers, and using manipulatives, just to name a few. Mingyu Wong
has a shortened IEP which states she requires practice emphasizing critical information, using graphic
organizers, and pre teaching vocabulary. She is also one grade level below her current eighth grade
level.
Analysis of learning outcomes
The English figurative language summative assessment consisted of ten multiple choice questions.
The students were given a sample sentence for their objective section, and they would have to choose

Objective section analysis.
The objectives are that students will distinguish between literal and figurative language. The students
will also need to create examples of figurative language. Next, students need to identify seven types of
figurative language. The objective assessment showed that eighteen students passed, and twelve
students failed. Of those students who failed, two students were above grade level, eleven students are
at grade level, and five students were below level. As you can see, this data is far from 80% passing.
The average of the objective score was 74%. The range of the objective score was 50. As you can see,
the students didn t perform so well in this lesson.
The outliers on this assessment were that not all objectives were met in the lesson, or the assessment.
An objective was left out of the lesson but not in the objective section. Time was also a major factor of
this lesson. The lesson was jam packed with great curriculum, but it was too much considering the
audience and the assessment outcomes. Lastly, the major outlier is the three students who received a
100%, because more than half the class failed. Performance section analysis. In the performance
score, eighteen students failed, and twelve passed. Of the students that failed, six students were below
grade level, three students were above grade level, and nine students were at grade level. As you can
see, this data is far from

Essay On Anthony Bourdain
Anthony Bourdain was born on June 25, 1956 in New York City. Son to a copy editor and music
producer, he quickly learned to love literature and rock music. He has said that he was raised without
religion, and that his ancestors were Catholic on his father s side and his mother s side they were
Jewish, which definitely contributed to his later cooking styles. He has also stated that his love for
food came from a family vacation in France, where he tried an oyster. Graduating from Dwight
Englewood School in 1973, he then went on to Vassar college, dropping out after two years to attend
the Culinary Institute of America. He then spent more than 25 years as an unknown cook in
Manhattan, which caused him to fall into the city s drug culture.

around eating and experiencing as many different cultures as possible. His most recent television deal
is with CNN for a show titled Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown , which, once again, took looks at
specific dining rituals across the globe. He has also ben a guest judge on Bravo s Top Chef cooking

Depiction Of Gladiator
A True Depiction of a Gladiator
There have been many movies that try to demonstrate how gladiators trained for their violent combat
against other gladiators, in hope to win and keep their lives at the end of their gruesome battles.
Although, the 1960 s movie Spartacus, with Kirk Douglas, had a few differences demonstrating how
actual gladiators trained in Rome, it still contains more accurate scenes displaying their intense
training. The movie showed the kind of training schools they were in, the armor used, and the styles of
fighting that they practiced to prepare these men, as they did hundreds of years ago in Rome.
To begin with, around 264 BC the gladiator games were introduced in Rome, called Munera. These
games were initially hosted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rome, there were around 30 different gladiators that were experts with the different shields,
weapons, and armor. There were the elite gladiators, who were freed and decided to remain as
gladiators. Then there were heavily armed gladiators that had a lot of armor and were protected, but
had very little movement when fighting. Finally, there were the lightly armed gladiators, they had little
to no armor, but had the ability to move more freely when fighting. The armor used during their
practices was wooden swords and shields instead of real equipment, for the protection of the
gladiators, the soldiers, and trainers who worked there. When it was time for a match the gladiators
would use real swords, shields, and sometimes armor to battle (Types of Gladiators). The gladiators
also were used to represent strong gods by the way they were dressed and the weapons they used. For
instance, there were unusual weapons, such as a trident, used by the god Neptune, and the use of a net
to follow the water god theme (Retiarri). Unlike in actual gladiator schools, in the movie, it did not
seem to have the men separated by their specialty but they all train together. Spartacus, and the other
gladiators did train using wooden swords and shields. There was a scene were Spartacus had to
actually fight till the death with another gladiator from the school, because some wealthy government
men and their wives came to Ludi Gladiatorium and wanted to see a fight. They paid a high
percentage of money to make this happen, since it was not allowed to fight these gladiators till death
in the schools. Spartacus was given a short sword and a shield, while his opponent was given a fish net
and a trident to battle. Although, Spartacus did not win that fight because his opponent spared his life,
the man did unfortunately get murdered on

Disadvantages Of Fresh Juice
A lot of produce may be used for your juicing because it helps extract vital minerals and vitamins,
along with giving a variety of delicious healthy beverages. Fresh juice will provide you with the
nutrients your body needs to run, and is far more effective than its processed or frozen counterpart.
Fresh juice is one of the most delightful healthy treats.
Treat your juice like a meal. A single glass of juice can really contain quite a bit of food. When you
drink a glass of juice on its own, the nutrients will be absorbed into the bloodstream a lot quicker.
Masticating juicers are very efficient. This type of juicer has added functions. It can mill ingredients to
the desired coarseness, and can make frozen desserts. These features can add variety to the juices that

Enjoy the flavors present in each glass. Let your saliva mix with your juice to help start digestion.
Juicing can benefit your health, no matter what your lifestyle may be. Leave your juicer on the kitchen
counter so that you can easily juice fruits or vegetables on a daily basis. Every time you see the juicer,
you ll remember that you want to use it to help improve your health and that of your family.
If you suffer from diabetes or hypoglycemia, use only vegetables in your juices. Drinking juice made
of fruit can drastically increase your blood sugar. Keep track of what goes into your juices to make
sure you are not exceeding your daily nutritional needs. Vegetables seldom present a blood glucose
concern, but keep in mind some vegetables can affect blood coagulation, an important consideration if

The Doctrine Of Judicial Law
Before critically analysing the extent to which the doctrine of judicial precedent affects judicial law
making, one must first contemplate what the doctrine of judicial precedent is. The doctrine is a rule
that all lower courts are to be bound by the decision or ratio decidendi of the higher courts. As a result
of this, cases that are alike are decided in a similar way . However, it is not this simple, as it will be
seen throughout this essay that wider circumstances are involved that affect the judicial law making
process. Judicial law making (otherwise known as common law) is judge made law rather than law set
out in statute. The relationship between the two will be evaluated. Firstly, it is important to outline the
types of decisions that are made in courts. Decisions made in the courts are the starting point of the
doctrine of judicial precedent because it is these decisions that binds the courts in subsequent cases.
This can help the courts but can also hinder them when creating common law principles. Two different
types of decision making should then be outlined, these being rule based and reason based decisions.
When a decision is made it can either be made on the strict rules that apply to the situation or on the
balance of all relevant reason. Due to the doctrine, lower courts must take the former approach being
bound by the rules established in the decisions of the higher courts. Rule based decisions are
supported by Sir William Blackstone who observed the

The Rise Of Pop Art
In the 1940s the United States and the allies were in the midst of a deadly war against their Nazi
German counterparts, World War II officially ended in 1945 and the Allies were victorious. In the
early 1950s the post war economic boom in both the United States of America and Great Britain, gave
the people optimism and money to spend as the super markets were filled with all kinds of consumer
goods . The economy was good and people were happy.
Capitalizing on the post war economic boom of the 1950s were advertisers. Advertising persuaded
many, it told people what was popular, what was good, and what to buy. Advertising and glossy
magazines were found everywhere, in the street, the highway, and even at the comfort of your own
house as you opened the newspaper. This mass marketing phenomenon was incorporated with the rise
of Pop Art. It paved the way for iconic artist such as Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns .
With the rise of this bona fide American phenomenon also brought critics. Critics asked and wondered
how a can of soup or a soft drink could be considered art. Pop artist, Andy Warhol responded by
stating, Art is what you can get away with. What made pop art popular? It was brash, transient, witty,
hostile, young, mass produced, and most importantly it was low cost .
Pop art was the new art movement of the 1950s and 1960s, it was the successor of the art movement
of a decade earlier. In the 1940s abstract expressionism was all the rage in the United States, it was

Triffid
Literature circle
In the past few chapters nothing has actually happened with the Triffids which made myself kind of
bored thinking about what I would do if I was a Triffid. In this essay I will be talking about what I
would do if I were in the place of a Triffid and about why I would do in these situations and I will also
be talking about the several consequences of doing these events.First I will be talking about what I
would do if I were a Triffid.
If I were a Triffid I would stay on a street hidden and I would wait until I found a person that was
alone and nobody could witness him, then I would attack him and I would keep doing that one at a
time for about a week After that I would use the dead bodies everywhere and eat them for the reason
that is how Triffids survive. Then I would travel back and call a dozen Triffids and feed on all the dead
bodies we kill with a limit of 3 a day so they can live longer than other Triffids ... Show more content

One consequence, there would be is that if I kept killing people that I find alone, then the human
population would decrease insanely quickly until there are no creatures left, but Triffids. One other
consequences that could occur is that the Triffids I call could eat all the humans, which is the main
food Triffids eat but if there aren t any humans Triffids would die. The final consequence would be
when I eat the dead bodies that I find that could be extremely dangerous if they have an unknown
disease that might kill the Triffids. These are the consequences that could happen if I were a Triffid.
In conclusion If I were a Triffid I would do varied activities that the Triffid in the book did not do and
I have several reasons why I would do those activities the Triffids didn t do in the previous
chapters. There would be numerous consequences that could happen if I were in the place of a

Tradition And Modernity In Tsitsi Dangarembga s Nervous...
Early African Literature often puzzled the conflict between tradition and modernity. Western
knowledge was almost automatically associated with modernity while tradition concerned itself with
African cultures and/or histories, the latter often given less value, while Western knowledge was seen
as the obvious path to success and advancement in life. In Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga
presents this dichotomic association and exposes its toxicity through her main female characters
journeys. In the book, Tambu is plucked from her family with the opportunity of a colonial education
and she is aware from the start that these are unique possibilities that will allow her to elevate her
status. As the story progresses, the effects of Tambu s dissociation from the homestead start to present
themselves and by the end of the novel, the loss of her culture is crippling. Nyasha undergoes a similar
process growing up partly in England, away from her extended family and her culture. For Tambu, the
harmful association of progress with Western values and culture is revealed through the juxtaposition
of the description of her arrival at the mission in the beginning of her story and her arrival at the
Sacred Heart at the end of the novel, as well as her reaction to the Christian wedding imposed to her
parents by her uncle. For Nyasha, her breakdown at the end of the novel is representative of the toxic
dichotomy of modernity and tradition within African literature. The implication

Living in Tooth Ville
Tooth Ville is a very enjoyable place; I would consider living in Tooth Ville if I was you. Tooth Ville is
an island that is a shape of a tooth, hence the name Tooth Ville . Tooth Ville has two site factors; Tooth
Ville has 3 natural harbours where food is shipped in from other countries or cities, also many people
come to Tooth Ville by water. Also since there is a lot of food being sent in from the other countries
and cities Tooth Ville has some natural resources, also Tooth Ville is surrounded by water we have a
lot of fresh water. All we have to do is filter it and we have our fresh water. As for Tooth Ville s
situation factor, Tooth Ville has markets that are usually full since they are really close to residential
areas. And we have a lot of roads and highways that connect everything, Tooth Ville even has 2
bridges that connect to the mini islands around Tooth Ville.
You could say that Tooth Ville is kind of like a suburban area; Tooth Ville has a lot of natural
resources so we are not like rural areas. We also don t have that much apartment building like they do
in urban areas, Tooth Ville isn t really busy that much maybe only twice in a week. Tooth Ville has
different kinds of houses; we have detached houses near the north west of Tooth Ville, there are
apartment buildings near the east of Tooth Ville, and some townhouses near the north of Tooth Ville
surrounding a park. Tooth Ville has one main highway that connects to the roads which connects to

The During The Gilded Age America Experienced The Second...
During the Gilded Age America experienced the Second Industrial Revolution . Between the end of
the Civil War and the early twentieth century, the United States underwent one of the most rapid and
profound economic revolutions any country has ever experienced. There were numerous causes for
this explosive economic growth. The country enjoyed abundant natural resources, a growing supply of
labor, an expanding market for manufactured goods, and the availability of capital for investment. The
uprising of big businesses, railroads, and factory transformed America from being based on small farm
work into an industrial powerhouse. During the Second Industrial Revolution the role of big business
in federal and state governments was a monumental turning point in the history of this country, setting
a foundation which has come to play a big role in government policy today. In a time period where the
American Government did not have a real system in place for becoming an elected official, a great
portion of the government was corrupted by people put in place by owners of big businesses and in
turn they agreed to pass laws or do other favors for their benefit. Moguls such as John D. Rockefeller,
and Andrew Carnegie played major roles big business. The rapid expansion of factory production,
mining, and railroad construction in all parts of the country except the South signaled the transition

Medical Benefits Of Cloning In The United States

Cloning can improve our means of society, and banning it will be putting the good of America on the

The medical benefits of cloning have the potential to be the greatest breakthroughs in the field ever.

This gave many people suspicion that cloned animals aged prematurely. However, a daily anti
inflammatory treatment resolved the clinical signs within a few months. While Dolly was continuing
to get better, in January of 2001, Cedric, one of the cloned sheep, died. Cedric died of Sheep
Pulmonary Adenomatosis, which is caused by a virus that induces tumors to grow in the lungs of
affected animals. The virus is infectious and spread to other sheep by close contact. Scientist
immediately removed Dolly from the pen even though there was a good chance she was already
infected. Dolly did die of SPA after many, many months of the other sheep deaths. While this may
seem like a negative, it is actually a common disease of regular conceived sheep. This long and
effective research experiment showed many people in the science world that cloning animals has a
very bright future.(The Roslin Institute)
Dolly was a breakthrough in science. She showed us it is possible to clone from an adult cell. Don t be
fooled, it no where near perfect, but nothing is truly perfect. Dolly gave us a base to learn and
continue to improve on. Think about it, when scientist first discovered anesthesia, atomic energy, and
recombinant DNA, they started with one successful experiment and continued to improve the means
of it. They could have lead to deleterious application, but in turn it changed the entire world s way of
living, just as cloning has the potential to do.( Di Berardino Marie

The Soviet Union Of The Vietnam War
Throughout history, humans have tried to perfect government. Many wars have been started by world
powers trying to force their faulty government upon others. In the modern world, the Fascist
government of Nazi Germany oppressed minorities in the name of advancement. The Soviet Union
imprisoned millions in their immoral gulags, but justified it in the name fighting crime. Even looking
as far back as Ancient Greece, we saw these conflicts. Some of the greatest victories can be attributed
to a superior government. And yet, some of the worst acts of immorality have been done in the name
of superior government.
The great and free country of America, with the world s most powerful military, has long imposed its

Some of the disagreement was to be found in government. Sparta had a more fascist leaning
government, as opposed to Athens democratic governing system. Sparta created a completely
militarized system to help give them more influence, as they despised Athens wealth and power. Many
Spartans believed that their nationalist militarized monarchy was more just and right than the Athenian
democracy, where mob rule had the potential to run rampant. With mob rule, innocent people could be
put to death, if the majority of people believed they were guilty. It begins to seem nonsensical that
Sparta fought Athens, in part, to end their power to kill the innocent, and yet, Sparta did just that. In
their militarized state they would kill innocent infants that they believed weren t fit to fight. It is a
backward system, when a government kills the innocent to stop the murder of the innocent.
The opposing state to Athens may have had some reason, however, to believe that they were immoral.
In a famous case, the Greek philosopher, Socrates, was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth in
a controversial trial. Many believe that the case was unjust, and still, he was sentenced to death for a
non violent crime . This is a classic case of how democracy can cause the popular belief to become
law, even if the populous is immoral or incorrect.
Many claim that a superior form of government has been the cause of historic victories, such as

Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park
Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park The area of Yellowstone National Park has a long
history of inhabitants, even before it became the nation s first national park. In the area now known as
Yellowstone National Park, wolves were once very prominent. However due to westward expansion in
the 1800s, agriculture began to increase. This led to the wolves that once thrived in this area to being
practically completely removed. The increase in agriculture in this region led to a lot of the wolves
prey becoming reduced or eliminated. Since the wolves had a decrease in prey, the wolves began to
prey on domestic animals, which then resulted in humans eliminating the wolves almost completely.
By the 1930s the wolf was eliminated from the area. This was before people had an understanding of
how ecosystems work and the interrelation of species. Now that the wolves were gone, elk then
became overpopulated. A lot of the vegetation began to disappear as well due to the overgrazing of the
elk. However after about a 70 year absence, in 1995 the wolves were carefully brought back to
Yellowstone. When they brought the wolves back to the park, there was not just an effect on one
species or one area but rather they affected the entire ecosystem of the area. I will discuss their effects
on areas such elk, beaver colonies, scavengers, aspen trees, willow trees and cottonwood trees. Once
the wolves were brought back into Yellowstone, immediately the elk population began decreasing.

Measuring Intelligence Through Objective, Culturally...
Maria Orrego PSYC 2001: Cross Cultural Psychology 13 March 2016 Measuring Intelligence
Through Objective, Culturally Unbiased Testing It takes something more than intelligence to act
intelligently. ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment One might dare to define intelligence as
the ability to obtain and apply knowledge and skills, or as the capacity to learn, comprehend, or deal
with new or difficult situation in order to adapt to or modify our environment or to process abstract
thoughts. However, on a paper defined by Shane and Hutter as a survey of a large number of informal
definitions of intelligence that [they] collected over the years (A Collection of Definitions, 2007), the
authors acknowledged that a complete list would be impossible as many definitions of intelligence are
buried deep inside articles and books (idem). Beyond their own recognition about the limits of their
compilation, even after careful analysis carried out by philosophers, psychologists and other scientists
throughout human history, still there is not a definite, cover all definition of intelligence. Maybe we
still do not possess sufficient intelligence to reach such achievement at this point of our evolution.
Notwithstanding, for the purposes of this work, I will attempt to provide a comprehensive definition
or, should it be possible, a series of definitions based on varied criteria. In attempting so, I will begin
by taking into consideration the categories proposed by

Perception Is Not Reality
Perception is not reality for many reasons. We are living in a virtual reality age of time in our lives so
if we know something you will believe what you know. I think because of all the technology that we
can use like video editing you can make some that are fake and make it look like it is real. This trick
us into believing things that are not real. If you think that seeing is believing some things can distort
how we look at things from our view. In one of the images in the story on page 79 of, ¨Magic and the

The Film Of A Passage Of India
The biggest obstacle any movie director must face is trying to please a critical audience. It is
especially difficult if the movie they are producing is based on a popular novel, such as E. M. Forster
s, A Passage to India. Each reader has their own perspective of what the characters are supposed to be
like and it is the director s job to try their hardest to please everyone and give an accurate
representation of the text. David Lean did a fantastic job with his casting decisions for his 1984 film
version of A Passage to India. In fact, Lean manages to clarify the novel s intentions. The
characterization in David Lean s film of A Passage to India mirrors the novel s original intentions and
provides even more depth to the characters. At the heart of the novel is Dr. Aziz a kind hearted Indian
man who just wants to prove that Indians can be friends with British people. When he meets Mrs.

generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English
settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that
have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes
would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often
historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different
meanings. But the private songs were unchanged through the history and kept those tribes
history/culture intact forever. There were primarily six different areas of music in the United States
where different tribes resided. The main characteristics of all of these diverse areas were that they
were based on singing and percussion. The vocalization of these tribes range from solos, chorales,
unison, and multipart singing. Percussion was also very common, and the use of drums and rattles
were used to keep a steady beat for singers. Flutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dan Buettner s Three Blue Zones
In the TED Talk How to Live to be 100+ , Dan Buettner talks about lifestyles that are helping people
live to be 100+. According to the Danish Twin Study, biology only factors into 10 percent of how long
we live, the other 90 percent it based off lifestyle (Buettner 2009). Dan Buettner and his colleagues
found three Blue Zones to try to find what types of lifestyles these people are living to become
centenarians. Blue Zones are places where people live longer than the majority of people in the world.
The Blue Zones are in Sardinia, Okinawa, and Loma Linda, California. They found similarities in
their lifestyles that help them to live to be 100+. Those similarities are: they do not do strenuous
exercise, have a period of down time, have a word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People in the Blue Zones put their families first. They take care of everyone in the family, ranging
from young children to aging parents. People in the Blue Zone not only care for their aging parents but
also treat them like celebrities. Dan Buettner (qtd in Gulli 2008) emphasizes that A stop in any local
taverna reveals just how much glory these seniors get. Usually we see swimsuit calendars inside North
American sports bars, says Dan Buettner, but when he was in Sardinia, it was Centenarian of the
Month calendars. Also, their relationship with their community is also very important. Those
surrounding themselves with the right people allows them to add on many years to their life. Buettner
(2009) states, They all tend to belong to a faith based community, which is worth between four and 14
extra years of life expectancy if you do it four times a month. And the biggest thing here is they also
belong to the right tribe. They were either born into or they proactively surround themselves with the
right people, they purposely surround themselves with the right group of people in their lives. The
relationships in the Blue Zone societies can be implemented into the lifestyles of the people in Cohort
Two; however, many of their ideas cannot be implemented in our lifestyles

Satire In The Chasers Internet Degree
Satire is like water, not everyone in the world gets it. Satire is a style of comedy where a serious issue
is told in a light and funny way. Quite often, satire has its moral purpose and is aiming to provoke
changes to the society. This form of humour can be presented to the audience in three different ways,
including a video from The Chasers, image and a written piece by unknown author. Satire brings out
an amused look at the human foible which result in such way that they become absurd, even hilarious.

Symbolism In Dante s Divine Comedy
Robert Langdon, Harvard university professor specializing in symbolism is being hounded by
someone and he has to find out why. Robert wakes up in a hospital bed suffering from amnesia. He
has no knowledge of the past thirty six hours. The last thing he can recall is walking on the Harvard
campus. He then quickly discovers that he is in Florence, Italy. A female assassin working for The
Consortium, a consulting group, tries to kill him in the hospital but he is saved by a doctor, Sienna
Brooks. Sienna takes him to her house so that they can be temporarily safe and then finds a canister

He then finds links to Dante s Divine Comedy in all the messages projected by the canister and uses
his knowledge of symbolism to reach Venice where he believes he will find the cave. The bag of virus
has been planted by Bertrand Zobrist, a Trans humanist genius scientist and a Dante fanatic, who was
extremely concerned about population explosion and how it will affect the Earth in the long run.
Zobrist had paid the same shadowy consulting group called The Consortium to protect the cylinder
until a certain date. He also left a disturbing video filled with Dante imagery, which also showed a
picture of the plague itself, kept in a hidden underwater location, within a slowly dissolving bag. The
video claims that the world will be changed the following morning. While he is Chased by the US
police, the World Health Organization and the female assassin, Robert and Sienna both are separated
in Venice. After some more investigating, he finally realizes that the bag is not in Venice, but it is in
Turkey. He then teams up with the WHO and the Consortium as he realizes that they are trying to find

Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis
DATE: September 16, 2012
TO: Patricia Bennett, Supervising Principal
FROM: Connor Sims, Associate
SUBJECT: Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111)
This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil and gas field
properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum
Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a
shortage of available oil. In addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly
waning. Currently, the industry grosses among the most profitable in the US despite these and similar
obstacles. The benefits of investing here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012).
Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas
resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most
major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting
since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much production,
particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists
and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year in which US
peak oil occurred.
International Comparison
In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry faces heavy
foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil production, behind Saudi Arabia and
Russia (Energy, 2012). Saudi Arabia s OPEC governor expects Saudi output to rise steadily beyond
2030 with a 1.5 million barrel per day spare production capacity then (Energy, 2012). Russia holds the

Crusades Turning Point
For this assignment I decided to write about the Crusades. The crusades were a series of religious wars
between Christians, Jews and Muslims. There were 9 different crusades over a 200 year period from
the late 10th century to the late 12th century. The first crusade begin in 1096 and lasted till 1099. The
purpose of the war was to help the Byzantine empire and recapture the Holy Land of Jerusalem back
to the Christians from the Muslims. A group of crusaders massacred Jews in many towns across
modern day west Germany in 1096, this marked an important turning point in the relationship between
the Jews and Christians. Pope Urban II lead the Christian army and Emperor Alexius I controlled the
Byzantine army. Stating that killing is in the name of God is acceptable as long as it was ... Show

Before invading Jerusalem or Egypt, both Muslims and Christians soon agreed on a treaty deal in
1192 ending the crusade; Jerusalem stayed under Islamic control. Pope Innocent II called for another
crusade in 1198. With not not enough knights to go in to war Enrico Dandolo, the doge of Venice lead
forces to aid. In 1203, the crusaders invaded Constantinople and made Alexius IV king of Byzantine
Empire. Not much later, the king was overthrown by Alexius V. Crusaders responded by taking
control of the city ultimately causing Constantinople to fall dividing the Byzantine Empire up in 1204.
The Fifth Crusade started in 1217, when Andrew II of Hungary attempted to take over Acre (in Italy).
Beginning in 1219, Cardinal Pelagius drove a crusade into Egypt. Forces overtook Damietta but where
stopped at Cairo by al Kamil (Saladin s nephew); causing the crusaders to retreat, ending the crusade
in 1221. Frederick II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire began another crusade in 1228. Later in
1229, a treaty was negotiated with al Kamil giving Jerusalem to the crusaders. A decade later, the

Question 1.
(a).
Marginal Revenue (MR) is the adjustment altogether income because of a unit change in amount. So
also Marginal cost (MC) is the additional cost of producing a unit. These two ideas are extremely
helpful in ideal designation of assets.
Assets will mean all variables of creation utilized as a part of the generation process. Such assets are
rare. So every firm will attempt to make ideal allotment of such rare assets to get most ideal result.
A business is keep running with the essential goal of amplifying benefit. Along these lines ideal
designation will mean appropriation of rare assets in such a way, to the point that benefit is expanded.
Business sector is instrument which helps in ideal allotment of assets. On the off chance that a firm
has not succeeded in upgrading its essential target of benefit boost, then assets will be moved to
different zones of creation where it will be utilized all the more successfully. In this way social welfare
will be streamlined.
Scientifically it can be built up that profit will be augmented where Marginal revenue and Marginal
cost are equivalent. Here both TR and TC relies on amount (Q). P is amplified when taking after two

Truss Design Project Essay
Summary
We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm gap.
The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall
shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held
together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss.
The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts.
Introduction
The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load
as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The
truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom
distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves
were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end.
The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is
distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this
reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have
optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit.
The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when
the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the
design accordingly.
The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight
distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members.
At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by
modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of
this member to make the truss stronger.
Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load
of not more than 25N, we used the

Taming Of The Shrew Identity
Taming of the Shrew: People Act the Way They are Treated Society has a tendency to believe that the
way one perceives another individual is how they truly are. It is human nature to construct one s
personality based on the way one may speak or behave. However, it is also human nature to accept
these roles created by others. In this modern day society, the majority believe that they are in charge of
their own individuality. Yet, the way others behave towards a particular individual is what shapes one
s identity. This is well demonstrated by William Shakespeare in Taming of the Shrew. In this play,
many characters easily mold into various other personas. Throughout the entire play, Shakespeare
constantly emphasizes how individuals behave differently based on how others look upon them. This
is shown repeatedly through the lives and experiences of Katherina, Bianca and Christopher Sly. To
begin with, Christopher Sly changes his entire identity based on how his peers were behaving towards
him. After being treated differently for a short amount of time, Sly changes his entire persona. When
Sly wakes up confused, as he is surrounded by his servants, whom constantly refer to him as a lord.
Christopher Sly is being tricked into believing he is a lord, when in reality, he is a drunk and a beggar.
He starts to recite his his inner thoughts about his situation and says, Am I a lord, and have such a
lady?/ or do I dream? Or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this play, it was a recurring event for the characters to change and transform into many different
identities. In Shakespearean times, it was not unusual for others to judge different individuals.
However it is still common in this modern day time. It is shown to be hardwired into humans to make
judgements about others which eventually leads us to mold others into the way they are

Stop And Frisk And The New York City Police Department Essay
Introduction In the 1990s, the growth of violent crime reached its all time high. In reply to the number
of high murder rates in 1990, the New York City Police Department realized that whatever they are
doing to reduce violent was not working. The local news reported that New Yorkers were afraid to
wear their jewelry in public. Some New Yorkers reported that they sprint to the subway exit to avoid
victimization when the door opened. The New York City Police Department decided to implement a
practice of Stop, Question, and Frisk. This law became to know as the Stop and Frisk (Bellin, 2014).
Stop and Frisk was a method that was implemented by the New York City Police Department in which
an officer stops a pedestrian and asked them a question, and then frisks them for any weapon or
contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). By the last 1990, Stop and Frisk became a common practice
implemented by New York City Police Department (Bellin, 2014). The framework of Stop and Frisk
started in 1968 in a case known as Terry v. Ohio. This was a landmark case that gave law enforcement
the constitutional limitations by the United States Supreme Court to stop and search individuals in
streets encounters for weapon or contraband (Rengifo Slocum, 2016). In 1996, the Anthony General,
Eliot Spitzer opened an investigation to assess the effectiveness of Stop and Frisk on the minority
communities in New York City. The assessment involved looking at 175,000 UF 250 Forms from
1998 to 1999. During

Analyzing Multiple Perspectives
From an early age I have been passionate about reading. Like seriously, when I was five years old I
was upset that I didn t get the newest Little Mermaid book for Christmas. However, I have never had
an interest in writing. Unfortunately, as I plan to go to graduate school to obtain my Ph.D, I really
cannot avoid it. Over the years, my lack of enthusiasm about writing has caused me to view most
English classes as a chore, something I needed to do in order to advance to what I really wanted to do
with my life. With the risk of sounding like a suck up, this is one of the first English classes I have
valued because I have felt like I improved some aspect of my writing in each essay.
One of the biggest take aways I have had is how to write a proper conclusion. This can best be seen in

Unfortunately, I really had no idea how to write one and spent a ton of unnecessary time finding
articles and then trying to remember what they were on. This was my first time doing an annotated
bibliography and it helped me tremendously. Through the annotated bibliography, I learned how to
properly organize my research. I think this is evident in how strong my introduction is. Although my
annotated bibliographies will probably not be as detailed if I am not turning them in for a grade, I will
most likely utilize them in other classes to provide a direction for my research and save time in the

Most Likely Diagnosis Essay
Most Likely Diagnosis
The first most likely diagnosis would be acute gastroenteritis. According to Aftab and Churgay (2012),
the patient has acute gastroenteritis is often defined as the onset of diarrhea in the absence of chronic
disease, with or without abdominal pain, fever, nausea, or vomiting . This 18 month year old patient
has had 6 episodes of diarrhea and 4 episodes of vomiting per day that occurred for two days. The
patient also has no history of having a chronic disease.
Confirm Diagnosis
To begin, there would be several different ways to diagnosis acute gastroenteritis. Aftab and Churgay
(2012) discuss how they would define diarrhea as having three or more water or loose stools in a 24
hour period, which is seen in this patient. Then the diarrhea would be noninflammatory due to it not
having any blood or mucus in it along with having no fever present. Aftab and Churgay (2012) would
include history such as how often the child is urinating and having bowel movements, whether
vomiting is interfering with the child s ability to keep down fluids and solid food, the duration of
illness, the nature of the stools (e.g., whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Hockenberry, Rodgers, and Wilson (2017), the possible cause of this is prolong and
repetitive contact with some kind of irritant. In this case, it would be the six episodes of diarrhea in the
last two days. The biggest signs is eruptions in the convex surfaces of buttocks, inner thighs, mons
pubis, and scrotum, which is seen on the picture. Interventions focus on reducing wetness, pH, and
fecal irritants. How this is accomplished is by keeping the skin dry, applying ointment, and avoiding
over washing the skin. Keeping the skin dry by using superabsorbent diapers, chaing diapers as soon
as they are soiled, and exposing the body to the air to dry completely. Ointment that can be applied is
zinc oxide or petrolatum. (Hockenberry, Rodgers, and Wilson

  • 2. English Figurative Language Summative Assessment Essay This task is focused on the assessment components of two ELL students, Vicente Flores, and Mingyu Wong. Vicente Flores is one grade level below his current grade. He does have a learning plan which consists of a shortened test, oral answers, and using manipulatives, just to name a few. Mingyu Wong has a shortened IEP which states she requires practice emphasizing critical information, using graphic organizers, and pre teaching vocabulary. She is also one grade level below her current eighth grade level. Analysis of learning outcomes The English figurative language summative assessment consisted of ten multiple choice questions. The objectives are that students will distinguish between literal and figurative language. The students will also need to create examples of figurative language. Next, students need to identify seven types of figurative language. The objective assessment showed that eighteen students passed, and twelve students failed. Of those students who failed, two students were above grade level, eleven students are at grade level, and five students were below level. As you can see, this data is far from 80% passing. The average of the objective score was 74%. The range of the objective score was 50. As you can see, the students didn t perform so well in this lesson. The outliers on this assessment were that not all objectives were met in the lesson, or the assessment. An objective was left out of the lesson but not in the objective section. Time was also a major factor of this lesson. The lesson was jam packed with great curriculum, but it was too much considering the audience and the assessment outcomes. Lastly, the major outlier is the three students who received a 100%, because more than half the class failed. Performance section analysis. In the performance score, eighteen students failed, and twelve passed. Of the students that failed, six students were below grade level, three students were above grade level, and nine students were at grade level. As you can see, this data is far from ... • 6. Depiction Of Gladiator A True Depiction of a Gladiator There have been many movies that try to demonstrate how gladiators trained for their violent combat against other gladiators, in hope to win and keep their lives at the end of their gruesome battles. Although, the 1960 s movie Spartacus, with Kirk Douglas, had a few differences demonstrating how actual gladiators trained in Rome, it still contains more accurate scenes displaying their intense training. The movie showed the kind of training schools they were in, the armor used, and the styles of fighting that they practiced to prepare these men, as they did hundreds of years ago in Rome. To begin with, around 264 BC the gladiator games were introduced in Rome, called Munera. These games were initially hosted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Rome, there were around 30 different gladiators that were experts with the different shields, weapons, and armor. There were the elite gladiators, who were freed and decided to remain as gladiators. Then there were heavily armed gladiators that had a lot of armor and were protected, but had very little movement when fighting. Finally, there were the lightly armed gladiators, they had little to no armor, but had the ability to move more freely when fighting. The armor used during their practices was wooden swords and shields instead of real equipment, for the protection of the gladiators, the soldiers, and trainers who worked there. When it was time for a match the gladiators would use real swords, shields, and sometimes armor to battle (Types of Gladiators). The gladiators also were used to represent strong gods by the way they were dressed and the weapons they used. For instance, there were unusual weapons, such as a trident, used by the god Neptune, and the use of a net to follow the water god theme (Retiarri). Unlike in actual gladiator schools, in the movie, it did not seem to have the men separated by their specialty but they all train together. Spartacus, and the other gladiators did train using wooden swords and shields. There was a scene were Spartacus had to actually fight till the death with another gladiator from the school, because some wealthy government men and their wives came to Ludi Gladiatorium and wanted to see a fight. They paid a high percentage of money to make this happen, since it was not allowed to fight these gladiators till death in the schools. Spartacus was given a short sword and a shield, while his opponent was given a fish net and a trident to battle. Although, Spartacus did not win that fight because his opponent spared his life, the man did unfortunately get murdered on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Doctrine Of Judicial Law Before critically analysing the extent to which the doctrine of judicial precedent affects judicial law making, one must first contemplate what the doctrine of judicial precedent is. The doctrine is a rule that all lower courts are to be bound by the decision or ratio decidendi of the higher courts. As a result of this, cases that are alike are decided in a similar way . However, it is not this simple, as it will be seen throughout this essay that wider circumstances are involved that affect the judicial law making process. Judicial law making (otherwise known as common law) is judge made law rather than law set out in statute. The relationship between the two will be evaluated. Firstly, it is important to outline the types of decisions that are made in courts. Decisions made in the courts are the starting point of the doctrine of judicial precedent because it is these decisions that binds the courts in subsequent cases. This can help the courts but can also hinder them when creating common law principles. Two different types of decision making should then be outlined, these being rule based and reason based decisions. When a decision is made it can either be made on the strict rules that apply to the situation or on the balance of all relevant reason. Due to the doctrine, lower courts must take the former approach being bound by the rules established in the decisions of the higher courts. Rule based decisions are supported by Sir William Blackstone who observed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Rise Of Pop Art In the 1940s the United States and the allies were in the midst of a deadly war against their Nazi German counterparts, World War II officially ended in 1945 and the Allies were victorious. In the early 1950s the post war economic boom in both the United States of America and Great Britain, gave the people optimism and money to spend as the super markets were filled with all kinds of consumer goods . The economy was good and people were happy. Capitalizing on the post war economic boom of the 1950s were advertisers. Advertising persuaded many, it told people what was popular, what was good, and what to buy. Advertising and glossy magazines were found everywhere, in the street, the highway, and even at the comfort of your own house as you opened the newspaper. This mass marketing phenomenon was incorporated with the rise of Pop Art. It paved the way for iconic artist such as Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns . With the rise of this bona fide American phenomenon also brought critics. Critics asked and wondered how a can of soup or a soft drink could be considered art. Pop artist, Andy Warhol responded by stating, Art is what you can get away with. What made pop art popular? It was brash, transient, witty, hostile, young, mass produced, and most importantly it was low cost . • 11. Triffid Literature circle In the past few chapters nothing has actually happened with the Triffids which made myself kind of bored thinking about what I would do if I was a Triffid. In this essay I will be talking about what I would do if I were in the place of a Triffid and about why I would do in these situations and I will also be talking about the several consequences of doing these events.First I will be talking about what I would do if I were a Triffid. If I were a Triffid I would stay on a street hidden and I would wait until I found a person that was alone and nobody could witness him, then I would attack him and I would keep doing that one at a time for about a week After that I would use the dead bodies everywhere and eat them for the reason that is how Triffids survive. Then I would travel back and call a dozen Triffids and feed on all the dead bodies we kill with a limit of 3 a day so they can live longer than other Triffids ... The final consequence would be when I eat the dead bodies that I find that could be extremely dangerous if they have an unknown disease that might kill the Triffids. These are the consequences that could happen if I were a Triffid. In conclusion If I were a Triffid I would do varied activities that the Triffid in the book did not do and I have several reasons why I would do those activities the Triffids didn t do in the previous chapters. There would be numerous consequences that could happen if I were in the place of a ... • 12. Tradition And Modernity In Tsitsi Dangarembga s Nervous... Early African Literature often puzzled the conflict between tradition and modernity. Western knowledge was almost automatically associated with modernity while tradition concerned itself with African cultures and/or histories, the latter often given less value, while Western knowledge was seen as the obvious path to success and advancement in life. In Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga presents this dichotomic association and exposes its toxicity through her main female characters journeys. In the book, Tambu is plucked from her family with the opportunity of a colonial education and she is aware from the start that these are unique possibilities that will allow her to elevate her status. As the story progresses, the effects of Tambu s dissociation from the homestead start to present themselves and by the end of the novel, the loss of her culture is crippling. Nyasha undergoes a similar process growing up partly in England, away from her extended family and her culture. For Tambu, the harmful association of progress with Western values and culture is revealed through the juxtaposition of the description of her arrival at the mission in the beginning of her story and her arrival at the Sacred Heart at the end of the novel, as well as her reaction to the Christian wedding imposed to her parents by her uncle. For Nyasha, her breakdown at the end of the novel is representative of the toxic dichotomy of modernity and tradition within African literature. The implication ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The During The Gilded Age America Experienced The Second... During the Gilded Age America experienced the Second Industrial Revolution . Between the end of the Civil War and the early twentieth century, the United States underwent one of the most rapid and profound economic revolutions any country has ever experienced. There were numerous causes for this explosive economic growth. The country enjoyed abundant natural resources, a growing supply of labor, an expanding market for manufactured goods, and the availability of capital for investment. The uprising of big businesses, railroads, and factory transformed America from being based on small farm work into an industrial powerhouse. During the Second Industrial Revolution the role of big business in federal and state governments was a monumental turning point in the history of this country, setting a foundation which has come to play a big role in government policy today. In a time period where the American Government did not have a real system in place for becoming an elected official, a great portion of the government was corrupted by people put in place by owners of big businesses and in turn they agreed to pass laws or do other favors for their benefit. Moguls such as John D. Rockefeller, and Andrew Carnegie played major roles big business. The rapid expansion of factory production, mining, and railroad construction in all parts of the country except the South signaled the transition from Lincoln s America a world centered on the small farm and artisan workshop to a ... However, a daily anti inflammatory treatment resolved the clinical signs within a few months. While Dolly was continuing to get better, in January of 2001, Cedric, one of the cloned sheep, died. Cedric died of Sheep Pulmonary Adenomatosis, which is caused by a virus that induces tumors to grow in the lungs of affected animals. The virus is infectious and spread to other sheep by close contact. Scientist immediately removed Dolly from the pen even though there was a good chance she was already infected. Some of the disagreement was to be found in government. Sparta had a more fascist leaning government, as opposed to Athens democratic governing system. Sparta created a completely militarized system to help give them more influence, as they despised Athens wealth and power. Many Spartans believed that their nationalist militarized monarchy was more just and right than the Athenian democracy, where mob rule had the potential to run rampant. With mob rule, innocent people could be put to death, if the majority of people believed they were guilty. It begins to seem nonsensical that Sparta fought Athens, in part, to end their power to kill the innocent, and yet, Sparta did just that. In their militarized state they would kill innocent infants that they believed weren t fit to fight. It is a backward system, when a government kills the innocent to stop the murder of the innocent. The opposing state to Athens may have had some reason, however, to believe that they were immoral. In a famous case, the Greek philosopher, Socrates, was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth in a controversial trial. Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park The area of Yellowstone National Park has a long history of inhabitants, even before it became the nation s first national park. In the area now known as Yellowstone National Park, wolves were once very prominent. However due to westward expansion in the 1800s, agriculture began to increase. This led to the wolves that once thrived in this area to being practically completely removed. The increase in agriculture in this region led to a lot of the wolves prey becoming reduced or eliminated. Since the wolves had a decrease in prey, the wolves began to prey on domestic animals, which then resulted in humans eliminating the wolves almost completely. By the 1930s the wolf was eliminated from the area. This was before people had an understanding of how ecosystems work and the interrelation of species. Now that the wolves were gone, elk then became overpopulated. A lot of the vegetation began to disappear as well due to the overgrazing of the elk. However after about a 70 year absence, in 1995 the wolves were carefully brought back to Yellowstone. When they brought the wolves back to the park, there was not just an effect on one species or one area but rather they affected the entire ecosystem of the area. I will discuss their effects on areas such elk, beaver colonies, scavengers, aspen trees, willow trees and cottonwood trees. Generally, it was one of the only methods that they had as a way to pass down traditions and their history from generation to generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different meanings. The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss. The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts. Introduction The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end. The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit. The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the design accordingly. The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members. At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of this member to make the truss stronger. Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load of not more than 25N, we used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In reply to the number of high murder rates in 1990, the New York City Police Department realized that whatever they are doing to reduce violent was not working. The local news reported that New Yorkers were afraid to wear their jewelry in public. Some New Yorkers reported that they sprint to the subway exit to avoid victimization when the door opened. The New York City Police Department decided to implement a practice of Stop, Question, and Frisk. This law became to know as the Stop and Frisk (Bellin, 2014).
