I Volunteer Full Time For A Non Profit Animal Rescue Group
I volunteer full time for a non profit animal rescue group called Dogs 2nd Chance. This organization
established in 2007 has fostered and found new homes for over 500 dogs locally, up the East Coast
and in the New England area. Dogs fostered in our homes are rejected family pets found abandoned
on the streets, abused and left to fend for its self. We provide medical treatment, rehabilitation, and
find loving homes for each rescued animal. While working with the rescue group I have successfully
helped manage multiple events through crowdfunding, silent auctions, and community events, so far
this year we ve risen over $10,000 for the cause.
I retired from the U.S. Navy in 2005 after serving 20 years. While working with the U.S Navy, I was
provided with the opportunity to work at multiple overseas locations, Puerto Rico, Naples, and
Manama Bahrain in support of U.S International Operations. As a Military Police and Prison Guard,
my duties included managing daily operations and briefings for three Admirals regarding personnel,
ships, submarines, and aircraft s. Addition missions performed where various duties in regard to

Manifest Destiny And Westward Expansion Essay
1) OUTLINE: I. Topic sentence.
Manifest destiny and westward expansion was a tremendous key component to the growth of the
nation economically because of the impact it had on native americans, women empowerment, and
expanding the population of the country.
II. Significance of topic.
Americans looked towards the western lands as an opportunity for large amounts of free land, for
growth of industry, and pursue the manifest destiny.
III. List of evidence related to topic.
The railways became an important system that guided settlement and delivered economic opportunity
for much of the United States. Railroads allowed access to places that people had no means of getting
to and provided an opportunity to develop cities and towns
As Western Expansion picked up, it became clear that just as before, the goals of American
expansionists conflicted with the needs of the Natives in the area of expansion
Women were an essential contribution towards expanding the West. Womens roles changed and during
this time and there was a major shift in women power.
Where ever the railroads were being built, those areas population went up dramatically.

The, And The Iliad Essay
1. We are the proper inheritors of these great thinkers, but we tend to approach life with just our own
resources and whatever insights we can pick up from the people around us (Morris ix).
So many of my classmates through the years had complained about having to read excerpts from old
stories. They didn t understand why they had to read pieces of Beowulf, or the Iliad. Only a handful of
us enjoyed what we read and could comprehend the cryptic writings. Those who were willing to read
and maybe reread the text were able to retain more information so they would be better equip for some
other circumstances. Not only did they pass the unit test, they also brought that knowledge to other
classes with them. It doesn t matter if the lessons from people in the past are entertaining or boring.
One never knows when they will need knowledge from someone in the past.
2. One of the strongest forces in human life is the power of self deception (Morris 13).
How can we trust others if we can t even trust ourselves? When a person wants to know what they
want to move toward as a goal, they have to look inside. To gain a clear picture of appropriate goals, a
person mustn t lie to themselves. Self deception is an illusion that is hard to look past. The
possibilities are endless for the situations in which illusions take place. An example of such an illusion
is a family with financial issues that is blind to the fact that they need to stop spending so much. How
do we break the illusion of

The Movement Of Indi The Struggle Of The Power Left A...
Many of these challenges stemmed from Prabhupada s death in 1977, which left a young ISKCON
shaken . Although the movement was growing rapidly, it still relied heavily on the charismatic
authority of Prabhupada, and his death created deep uncertainties within the organization s leadership.
As the organization scrambled to fill the void in institutional power left by its founder, there was a
significant movement of Indians into local positions of power, which had a [stabilizing influence on]
many of the temple level conflicts and also encouraged a greater degree of Indian participation . As
Indian Americans continued to take on leadership roles in ISKCON, they began to draw spiritual
legitimacy and authenticity from their status as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before this period, Prabhupada distanced himself from traditional Hinduism and publicly stated that
his movement was not Hindu: I don t want a Hindu temple. Our constitution is different. We want
everyone . However, the movement was forced to abandon this conviction as anti cult sentiment grew
in the 1970s. By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media and
government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a dangerous cult,
the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s authenticity as a
traditional Hindu religious group . This testimony was successful in alleviating public fears and
allowed ISKCON to escape government sanctions. Without the leadership and support of Indian
immigrants, ISKCON would have been far less prepared to survive the death of its founder in 1977
and the subsequent financial and legal issues that plagued the movement in the 1980s.
III. Hippies and Immigrants: Comparative Perspectives
Two major groups have historically populated the membership of ISKCON: first, the rebellious youth
of the American counterculture, and second, the Indian immigrant community that exploded in the
wake of 1960s immigration reform. While Indian American devotees currently represent a large
proportion of ISKCON s following, their circumstances appear to differ dramatically from those of the
counterculture s hippies.

Under the Night Sky, Story Excerpt
After spending a whole night under the sky, my clothing became quite dirty. Fortunately I brought
some change, but I hadn t found a place to dress myself yet. Furthermore, I also wanted to take a bath.
This morning my stomach went to a strike. Mrs. Belgium s waffles only survived for one day, so I had
to shake my brain to find food. The thing was... Where is this? If I have to describe, I was in a
glamour city. A city filled with many artistic ornaments, and people passing around the streets (that
made me feel even clumsier). In a place, I found a free newspaper stand that also provides free map,

who cares? Actually, knowing where I was now wouldn t help too much. The thing I should do
is...look for a place for obtaining money and food. I checked my bag. What should I sell now to
survive...? I decided to sell my phone. That hand phone was turned off, and the trademark (as with my
other belongings) weren t clear where it came from. People should wanting to pay this, I
suppose...though. I found an electronic shop, and obtained some buck of franc after a lot negotiating.
With that money, I went to the minimarket to buy the cheapest bread and a box of milk. Alright, for
this moment, I was saved. Now... I found a very beautiful park, and found a public toilet nearby.
Refreshed, I sat on the bench and re examined my map. Can I find my position and

John F. Kennedy s Assassination
John F Kennedy grew up in a wealthy and very political family. His assassination was a shock to
many. It was a time of Cold War and the peak of US involvement in Vietnam. It is important to
understand the John F. Kennedy regime including both its national and foreign policy. You also need
to look into his personal life. This would help to create motives, and find the primary aspect to
consider when looking into any homicide, assassination or murder. He was the first president who was
a Boy Scout, the youngest ever to be elected president, He won the Pulitzer Prize in history for the

Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas
Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by
Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell
Michelle Plavnik
Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States
PAGE 2
ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision
diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb
to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary
over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was
graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of
the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the
viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values
were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is
not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the
assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it
could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like
collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics.

Marshall Plan Essay
This paper will analyze the Marshall Plan from both the international political economic (IPE) liberal
and IPE critical theorist philosophies and what a theorist from each belief would say about the
Marshall Plan in regards to its economic and political implications. The essay will do this first with an
explanation of the IPE liberal theory; followed by an explanation of the IPE critical theory. Next, the
essay will describe the background of the Marshall Plan aid and what the Marshall Plan hoped to
accomplish in Europe, specifically Western Europe, following the end of the Second World War. The
essay will then compare and contrast how an IPE liberal and IPE critical theorist would evaluate the
Marshall Plan aid in Europe.
Liberalism in the international political economy is a theory that arose together with the Industrial
Revolution in Britain. Adam Smith and David Ricardo are two major theorists who promoted the idea
that free trade and open markets are beneficial to all states and that they can generate wealth for all
parties involved. (O Brien and Williams, 2013, pg.13 14) Within liberalism the important actor, the
basic unit of analysis, is the individual, who is thought of as being able to analyze different choices
and select the best approach. The individual seeks to foster growth for themselves and their business,
which in turn, according to liberal theorists would create positive advancement for the entire economy.
This belief follows the thought that exchange and

Summer Break Argumentative Essay
This question has been asked many times with school board officials let s look at the facts, Summer
break started because the children of poor farmers would miss school in order to help their families
harvest they would miss many days of school and wouldn t be able to learn as much as the children
whose families were wealthy. They eventually decided to shorten the calendar so that no one could
miss school. Here in the 21 st century no one needs to miss school, nowadays a small amount of
people have families that own farms but the children don t have to miss school to work on them!
Summer break is now a fun break, but do kids really need it? I believe they don t there are enough

calendar shortened anymore. So should we keep Summer? According to ... Show more content on

memories of their previous lessons. To reiterate, School should be all year long. The benefits from this
decision affect teachers, parents, and the students themselves.Making the school year longer would

Title: Principles of Influence and the Psychology of Persuasion
Have you ever pondered on why you buy the useless odds and ends sitting in your junk drawer? What
made you purchase the tread climber that you collects dust in the corner of your living room? Why did
you get the Instyler when your straightening or curling iron works just as well? Why do you

explanation in his book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.

L Likability
Likability is an important aspect of persuasion. It is no coincidence that actors and actresses are all
attractive people; they make you want to see their works. The same applies to Sales Reps. This
phenomena is known as the Halo Effect, which refers to the idea that attractiveness enhances our
perception of the expertise of that person or persons. If you are not up to par to today s beauty
standards, try a few techniques to become more likable:
Listening When dealing with customers, call them by their name, be interested in what they have to
say, and ask questions. Attentiveness is an important skill for anyone involved in sales.
Praise Complimenting your clients is a good way to increase your likability and make that person s
day at the same time. Try to be as sincere as you can and compliment something you actually like
about that person.
Positive Association Positive association links your product with desirable things. For example,
everyone knows the brand Mercedes to be all about luxury. Brands such as these use attractive
models, the idea of luxury, and exclusivity to get their client base to associate their brand with
something their customers need to have. Positive association is a very powerful tool in marketing.
Contrast Get your customers to have a higher opinion of your product or service by comparing it to a
worse

War Between Europeans And Indians
Suspicion and hostility, branching from technological and cultural differences, as well as, mutual
feelings of being superior, have infused relations between Native Americans and non Natives in North
America. Intertribal conflicts among the Indians, and nationalistic rivalries, lacking faith, and
expansion desires on the part of non natives worsened these tensions. The resulting white and native
conflicts often took a particularly bad turn and resulted in the near destruction of the native
people(Native American). War between Europeans and Indians was common back in the 1600s. In
1622, the Powhatans nearly wiped out the already struggling Jamestown colony. Frustrated at the
continuing conflicts, Nathaniel Bacon and a group of whites destroyed the Pamunkey Indians before
leading an unsuccessful revolt against colonial authorities in 1676. Continuous wars also plagued
early Dutch colonies in New York. In New England, Puritan forces wiped out the Pequots in 1636, a
campaign s intensity that seemed to shape the future. Following attacks inspired by King Philip
against English settlements sparked a concerted response from the New England Confederation.
Employing Indian partnerships and a scorched earth policy, the colonists nearly wiped out the
Narragansetts, Wampanoag, and Nipmuck tribes in 1675 and1676. A major Pueblo revolt also
threatened New Mexico in 1680 (European). Indians were also a key factor in the rivalries among
France, Spain, and England. In King William s, Queen

in an average risky asset (427). The Beta for JC Penney and TJX is above industry average that means
that these companies would have a greater expected return. Systematic risk or market risk is the risk
that affects a large number of assets. Examples of systematic risk are inflation or increasing the

risk is the risk that mainly associated with specific companies or may be some competitors and

Unsystematic risk however affects the company and is controlled by the company s performance.
When investors invest money into a company they must research all aspects of that company so they
are aware of the unsystematic risks they may encounter. JC Penney is an unfavorable choice for
investors because the company analysis indicates that the company is unprofitable. Along with the bad

The Greek s Victory Over Persia
The Greek s victory over Persia marked the beginning of not only an era, but of cultural expansion
that continues to impact our modern day society. The accomplishments and endeavors of the Ancient
Greeks, both visible, such as arts and architecture, as well as intellectually in areas such as philosophy,
science and government continue to influence the world today. Many or none of these influential
elements of Ancient Greece would have come to fruition in such a.... way if the Greeks had not
defeated the Persians. The freedom to think and expand provided the basis to thrive locally and
globally. It was a turning point in the fate of Europe and subsequently the rest of the world which was
built on European principles.
The Greeks were masters at art especially in sculpture. Their handling of human anatomy and fine
details in the hair and clothing were impressive. They were able to capture a wide range of human
emotions, moods and depicting motion. Their sculptures inspired the Romans and the great sculptures
of the Renaissance. The most visible impact on the world is in the area of Architecture where the
Greeks were able to design and build monumental and beautiful structures. They achieved the method
of visual symmetry in a column by making the column bulge in just the right way. Their theaters were
designed to use the natural surroundings and shape to enhance the acoustical properties. Without the
threat of Persian rule, the Greeks were able to continue to

After its founder s assassination ■ (Joseph Smith Jr. in June 1844) and facing harassment by their

The Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and I.
They lived in Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young age. Their
mother, Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working, residents of the US.
Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for short, had suspicions that the
young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was arrested and stayed at Yuba county
jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad, missed school every
wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they were in the fight against
being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all because of assumptions to
terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was striped from them. Racial
profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the
INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission
is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes
of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has
been around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese
immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result

Sleep Apnea Definition
According to the National heart, lung, and blood institute website, Sleep apnea is a common disorder
in which a person has one or more pauses in breathing or weak breaths while they sleep (NIH National
heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, definition). The pauses and breathing can last from a few
seconds to minutes, and breathing pauses may happen 30 times or more an hour. After the pauses,
normal breathing can start but with a loud snort or choking sound (NIH National heart, lung and blood
Institute, 2012, definition). Sleep Apnea can be categorized in three types: obstructive sleep apnea,
central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea syndrome.
The cause of sleep apnea is due to a blockage of the throat muscles that keep airway flow open. Some
of the reasons for the blockage can be the relaxing of throat muscles and tongue unusually, the size of
your tongue and tonsils are not appropriate for the opening of your windpipe, and people with weight
issues. Other reasons can be the size of your head and neck which may lead to a narrow airway
passage in the mouth and throat. In addition, as people get older, the brain signals ability gets worse
and causes throat muscles to stiffen. Consequently, airways have an increased chance of narrowing or
collapsing (NIH National heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, causes). Snoring is one of the most

Unlike Willy and Linda, who seem to put more attention towards Biff than Happy. So it seems that the
boys all have similarities between them but the way they are treated by their mother and father are
where the differences lay.
In Death Of A Salesman Willy treats his wife Linda, as though he does not appreciate her. He talks to
her disrespectfully and even ignores her on occasion, and even though he does this blatantly she still
stands by his side and acts as his support. In Fences Troy treats his wife Rose with a certain amount of
respect but when he does step out of line Rose is not the one to take it. A perfect example of this
would be the fact that both men had found a way to have an extramarital affair, and both for
validations reasons. Linda chose to ignore the fact that Willy was having an affair. By ignoring what
was happening, Linda did not have to admit to herself what was going on, and saved herself some
difficult choices. Linda was not strong enough to make those choices. When Rose found out that Troy
had been unfaithful she chose to leave him. And even through it all she still chose to take care of the
child he had with another

DoppelgÀnger s That Lived In A Tiny Town In Russia
Two doppelgÀnger s that went by the names of Anastasia and Daevea lived in a tiny town in Russia.
The town ran on a single clock tower, whose gears turned by itself. The clocktower kept the
inhabitants of the town and their houses alive and colorful. One fateful day the twisted doppelgÀnger
Daevea made the terrible choice to enter the forbidden forest outside of their pocket sized town. The
forest was filled with evil spirits and creatures of the night and contained an enchantresses book of
spells. The book was hidden away deep in the brush of the forest. Daevea decided to steal the book for
her own destructive needs. Daevea was so jealous of her fellow doppelgÀnger she decided she needed
to kill her. Daevea and Anastasia might have had the

Pericles Speech During The Peloponnesian War
During the first phase of the Peloponnesian War, Pericles was selected to make a speech to honor
those who had lost their lives in battle. His famous funeral oration covered many topics, such as
democracy, freedom, courage, and most of all the glory of Athens. This is best summed up in the
thesis of the speech, where Pericles encourages Athenians to realize how great Athens is and fall in
love with her. Pericles insists, When you realize her greatness, then reflect that what made her great
was men with a spirit of adventure, men who knew their duty, and men who were ashamed to fall
below a certain standard. However, much of what Pericles states is not the full truth of what happened
during the war. In his speech, Pericles exaggerates Athens military power, society, and overall
greatness, often contradicting himself in the process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time of the oration, Athens was in the first phase of the Peloponnesian war, and both opposing
forces were at a stalemate. One side would win a battle and then lose one right after. Despite this,
Pericles depicted Athens as having the upper hand in the war and continued to praise Athens for its
greatness. This is best seen through statements such as We do not rely on secret weapons, and how
they do not need help in winning their battles. These statements give Athenians baseless morale, as in
reality, neither side in the war was

The Ethics Of The English Marine Insurance System
1. Introduction
While in recent years, more and more self help motivational books or websites may be encouraging an
All or Nothing attitude towards life in general, one would indisputably agree that when an assured is
taking up a policy, in this context, a Marine Policy, one is trying to protect against risks of the
unknown, and definitely not signing up for a All or Nothing lottery game. However, two judgments in
the English Courts for rules on proximate causation, particularly cases with a combination of perils to
be considered, seemed to suggest the notion of Do you feel lucky today? thus raising doubts on the
justice of the rules on proximate causation in the English marine insurance system.
Hence, this paper aims to discuss in greater depth the reasoning and outcome of the two judgments i.e.
the judgment of the Court of Appeal in The Miss Jay Jay [1987] 1 Lloyd s Rep 32, and of the Supreme
Court judgment in The Cendor MOPU [2011] 1 Lloyd s Rep. 560, to see if they are an arguably
sufficient justification for the view that the English marine insurance system rules on proximate
causation should be repealed and replaced by a system similar to that used in the Nordic Marine
Insurance Plan.
2. Proximate Causation
2.1 Predominant or Efficient Cause
The concept of proximate causation has a critical role in Marine Insurance Law. A connection between
the covered perils and the loss is required to determine causation and therefore liability.
In Section 55(1) of Marine

Richard Gatling Gun Research Paper
In 1862 Dr. Richard Gatling invented and patented the original six barrel, .58 caliber Gatling gun that
fired up to 300 rounds per minute (McNab). The Gatling Gun became just the beginning, however, as
it would lead to world renowned inventions in the military and change war forever. Dr. Richard
Gatling grew up on a small farm in South Carolina, working with his dad on their small farm, making
ends meet. In his earlier years, he caught a bad case of smallpox and almost died in 1846 (Silvia). His
encounter with the disease sparked his interest in medicine and later in life he went on to study
medicine in college and he became a more modern day physician at the time (Silvia). He practiced
medicine for about eight years before he discovered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It affected the gun especially on the battlefield where the terrain varied widely compared to that of a
flat shooting course the gun had been tested on (Silvia). The lack of the guns accuracy had to be
compromised by the amount of lead it could sling at people. In 1862 Gatling came out with the first
model, a six barrel, small caliber gun, that shot around three hundred rounds per minute. Later in the
war, however, after being suped up , it had ten barrel, .58 caliber gun, that shot four hundred rounds
per minute (History.com Staff). However, as the war progressed and rifles as well as fighting tactics
changed, generals started to see there are many ways to avoid the Gatling Gun, and ways to make it
even more inaccurate for the enemy shooting at them. Although this caused the gun to lose its
popularity and use, the way that it forever changed war is incredible. It forced generals for both the
Union and the Confederates to use, and to create new styles of

Leisure and Lifestyle
At the beginning of this course leisure was a topic I did not give much thought to and I felt like I did
not have the time to spare to put much thought into. To me, all leisure meant was having free time to
do whatever it is that I wanted to do. But after analyzing my life I noticed that I had surrounded my
life with solely work and school and my free time was anytime I spent watching television and
anytime I slept. However, after taking this course I learned that leisure meant more much than that.
Now leisure to me means, as Richard Kraus states, leisure is time which is not devoted to work or
work connected responsibilities or to other forms of discretionary or unobligated time, (Olson et al.,
2003, 12). The time in which Kraus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, the same situation most likely applies for many people. Yes, many do spend most of
their time at work but assuredly if they were to reevaluate their time spent, they most definitely may
find some of their extra time that could be spent on leisure.
Without having or developing good time management skills, one may find it easier to stress out or find
it easy to not make time for leisure. The results for a study conducted on 249 college students showed
that the combination of anxiety reduction and effective time management affiliated with participating
in leisure activities can be an effective technique for reducing academic stress (Misra McKean, 2000,
41). The same study also states that, campus recreation practitioners may plan leisure activities and
social recreational pursuits that increase the educational benefit from leisure pursuits to help students
handle their academic stress, (Misra McKean, 2000, 49). So therefore, there is time for leisure as long
as we learn how to manage our time. Once we find time to participate in those activities we desired for
so long, it will help cope with nerve racking situations that surround our lives. Besides keeping us
from stressing, leisure also keeps us entertained and it helps stirs us away from being bored. Many of
us can easily admit (I know I can) that when we finally do have time for leisure activities we end up
sitting on the couch in

Cut Carnations Lab Report
Abstract The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the influence of various chemicals on the
senescence of cut carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus). Treatments involved included a control bleach
(0.01% sodium hypochlorite) solution, a diluted sucrose solution (1% sucrose in 0.01% sodium
hypochlorite) and a concentrated sucrose solution (3% sucrose in 0.01% sodium hypochlorite), with 4
trials for each treatment. Results showed the most effective solution for prolonging the life of cut
carnations was the 3% sucrose solution, as flowers in this solution spend longer times in stages of
senescence while only reaching the withering stage of senescence. It can then be said that higher
concentration of sugar solutions promotes cut flower longevity. ... Show more content on

Ethylene sensitivity determines flower longevity and its presence accelerates senescence. I would use
a solution of boric acid, and a boric acid/sucrose solution (with 0.01% sodium hypochlorite), to see the

with a nutrient/energy source and antimicrobial agent. Other experiments have showed the use of
floral preservatives containing sucrose and ethylene inhibitors delay petal senescence, decrease
ethylene sensitivity and improve aesthetic characteristics (Ebrahimzadeh et al.,

Differences Between The Outsiders Book And Movie
When comparing both mediums of The Outsiders, they both portray the story and main points of the
book differently creating advantages and disadvantages for both. The novel has many traits that the
movie doesn t have, such as details, the ability to use one s own imagination, the backstories of
characters, the personalities and emotions of different characters, and isn t held back by time
constraints. The movie confines you to one point of view, the director s. A person isn t allowed to see
the characters as they would like to, and must picture everything the way the director of the movie saw
it. First, the novel includes details that the movie doesn t include, resulting in a shorter time span in
which the movie is presented. If one had a short attention span the movie has more of an advantage
over the book, but many people like to enjoy books in a comfortable spot and receive all the details of
the story. The movie excludes certain parts of the story, changing the story altogether. The novel
contains a complete story and does not include extra scenes that were never told in the story about
what the author wrote. Excluding certain parts of the story leads to missing ... Show more content on

Kurt Cobain Documentary Essay
Is It Possible To Accurately Represent Reality In Film?
...It matters very little what the facts are; what matters is what people believe. And when it comes to
Cobain, most of what they believe is fabricated nonsense.
Buzz Osborne, Melvins
Documentaries are often assumed to be credible and filled with factual information; they do, after all,
document reality. This is not always the case though. There are many factors that determine the
reliability of documentaries: the editing, the director s agenda, the film s style, confirmation bias, and
choice of interviewees, among other things. Documentaries are a representative medium, after all, and
although they are able to give audiences insight into people and events that they were not able to
experience first hand, there is much ambiguity surrounding the truthfulness of non fiction film. While
it may be possible to inform and persuade people through film, it will never be able to accurately
represent reality. By comparing two documentaries about Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, it will become
apparent that there is still a blurred line between what is fiction and what is not.

The Prevalence Of Ischemic Heart Disease
The prevalence of ischemic heart disease is increasing in the United States, and around the world.
Sudden cardiac arrest, the primary cause of death related to ischemic heart disease, is now the leading
cause of death worldwide (Weng Sun, 2012). Of the more than 300,000 patients who suffer sudden
cardiac arrest in the United States each year, only 7.9% survive to hospital discharge (Weng Sun,
2012). Lilja, et al. (2015) report that despite recent improvements in methods of cardiac resuscitation,
severe and often permanent brain injury remains the leading cause of death in hospitalized patients
post resuscitation. Recent research has sought to preserve neurologic function and improve outcomes
post resuscitation through the implementation of therapeutic hypothermia. Neumar, et al. (2015)
provide a 2015 update to The American Heart Association s Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care recommending that Targeted Temperature
Management (TTM) between 32°C and 36°C be initiated and maintained for at least 24 hours in all
comatose adult patients following restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest
(p. S343). CINHAL, PubMed and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched
between October and November 2016, to identify studies involving the implementation of therapeutic
hypothermia following ROSC after cardiac arrest. Search terms for CINHAL included therapeutic

ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate the seismic performance of steel moment resisting frames upgraded with
shape memory alloy (SMA) based self centering viscous dampers. The superelastic viscous damper
(SVD) relies on SMA cables for re centering capability and employs viscoelastic (VE) damper that

In another study, Erochko et al. [3] examined the residual drift response of special moment resisting
frames (SMRFs) and buckling restrained braced frames (BRBFs). It was found that both types of
building systems experience significant residual drifts, with values between 0.8 1.5% for the SMRFs
and 0.8 2.0% for the BRBFs under design based excitations. By reducing residual drifts of a structure
subjected to a seismic event, structural engineers can maximize post event functionality, reduce the
cost to repair the structures, and increase the public safety.
A number of studies have been carried out to develop new structural systems that can provide stable
energy dissipation with full re centering capabilities. Often referred to as self centering or re centering,
these systems provide a restoring force which is either independent from or acts in addition to energy
dissipation capabilities. Christopoulos et al. [4] developed a self centering energy dissipative bracing
system, which combines a friction dissipative mechanism and post tensioning elements. Experimental
tests on the proposed full scale bracing system were conducted to confirm the repeatable flag shape
hysteretic response. Deierlein et al. [5] proposed a new seismic resisting system that includes
controlled rocking, elastic post tensioning, and

MSCs are a heterogeneous subgroup of stromal stem cells. According to International Society for
Cellular Therapy (ISCT) in 2007, they have three unique features:
1. They are non hematopoietic multi potential cells with selfrenewality and can differentiate into
different types of mesodermic, ectodermic and endodermic tissues, especially bone, fat and cartilage.
2. They are fibroblastic or spindle shaped in culture media and adhere to the culture vessel.

The Health Care Reform Act
The Health Care Reform Act was designed to benefit the citizens of the United States. Thanks to the
Affordable Care Act, 3.1 million more young adults have health insurance on their parent s plan, three
million seniors have received a 50 percent discount on their prescription drugs, and millions of
Americans now have access to no cost preventive services to help them stay healthy. Abusive
insurance practices are becoming a thing of the past. Additionally, the Affordable Care Act helps small
businesses with the cost of providing health insurance for their employees and helps doctors and other

3590) and the Health Care Education Reconciliation Act 2010 (H.R. 4872). When President Obama
signed these two bills, they became Public Law. The purpose of the ACA is to make health care more
accessible to all residents of the United States by three means: mandating all U.S. residents to select a
health insurance plan, forbidding insurers from denying coverage based on a pre existing condition,
and expanding program. The ACA states that the federal government will pay 100% of the cost of a
newly enrolled Medicaid participants until 2016 for all states that expand their Medicaid program up
to 138% of the federal poverty level and will pay90% by 2020 (Kincaid, 2013). Other concerns
include whether the federal government will give state enough flexibility to manage Medicaid
program, whether hospitals will receive adequate compensation to care for more patients and whether
the physician workforce can accommodate the increased demand for care (Kincaid, 2013). The ACA is
affected by two things, one is payments of hospitals and providers. The ACA does not provide fee for
service towards a bundled payment. This type of payment, a set amout is paid for all services rendered
and treatment related sickness. The ACA emphasizes pay per performance, meaning that the providers
will not receive payment based on the patient outcome. For example, if the patient has shown no
improvement there will be penalties. Also, there will be penalties if the patient has to be hospitalized

Examples Of Abigail Williams In The Crucible
Abigail Williams: A Despicable Person In the 17 century those who practiced the Devil s magic were
executed in Gallows Hill. In the spring of 1692, three girls by the names of Abigail Williams, Betty
Parris, and Mary Warren accused a numerous amount of Puritans with the practice of witchcraft. In
The Crucible, Abigail harms many people of Salem. Her affair with Proctor causes her to believe that
she is in love with him. She plans to get rid of her by casting a death spell, so she can have Proctor to
herself. However, when that does not work Abigail accuses Elizabeth of being a witch. Abigail
Williams is the most despicable person in The Crucible because she is revengeful, manipulative, and a
liar. Through her actions, the reader can tell that a despicable person is someone who hides the truth.

Her first lie is when her uncle, Reverend Parris, asks her what really happened in the woods the night

continues to read forward they will realize that Abigail was lying like a demagogue. Abigail insisted
that they only danced, yet Betty says Abigail drank a charm to kill Elizabeth. She evidently lies about
practicing witchcraft. Abigail also lies when she accuses Tituba of bewitching her. She says She sends
her spirit on me in church... She comes to me every night to go and drink blood (Miller 41). The
preceding sentence tells the reader that Abigail is lying. She is trying to protect the fact that she is the
one who was practicing witchcraft. In order to save herself from being executed she lies by accusing
others of her involvement in witchcraft. She hides the truth by telling a lie making her a despicable

  • 4. The, And The Iliad Essay 1. We are the proper inheritors of these great thinkers, but we tend to approach life with just our own resources and whatever insights we can pick up from the people around us (Morris ix). So many of my classmates through the years had complained about having to read excerpts from old stories. They didn t understand why they had to read pieces of Beowulf, or the Iliad. Only a handful of us enjoyed what we read and could comprehend the cryptic writings. Those who were willing to read and maybe reread the text were able to retain more information so they would be better equip for some other circumstances. Not only did they pass the unit test, they also brought that knowledge to other classes with them. It doesn t matter if the lessons from people in the past are entertaining or boring. One never knows when they will need knowledge from someone in the past. 2. One of the strongest forces in human life is the power of self deception (Morris 13). How can we trust others if we can t even trust ourselves? When a person wants to know what they want to move toward as a goal, they have to look inside. To gain a clear picture of appropriate goals, a person mustn t lie to themselves. Self deception is an illusion that is hard to look past. The possibilities are endless for the situations in which illusions take place. An example of such an illusion is a family with financial issues that is blind to the fact that they need to stop spending so much. How do we break the illusion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the movement was growing rapidly, it still relied heavily on the charismatic authority of Prabhupada, and his death created deep uncertainties within the organization s leadership. As the organization scrambled to fill the void in institutional power left by its founder, there was a significant movement of Indians into local positions of power, which had a [stabilizing influence on] many of the temple level conflicts and also encouraged a greater degree of Indian participation . Before this period, Prabhupada distanced himself from traditional Hinduism and publicly stated that his movement was not Hindu: I don t want a Hindu temple. Our constitution is different. We want everyone . However, the movement was forced to abandon this conviction as anti cult sentiment grew in the 1970s. By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media and government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a dangerous cult, the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s authenticity as a traditional Hindu religious group . This testimony was successful in alleviating public fears and allowed ISKCON to escape government sanctions. Without the leadership and support of Indian immigrants, ISKCON would have been far less prepared to survive the death of its founder in 1977 and the subsequent financial and legal issues that plagued the movement in the 1980s. III. Hippies and Immigrants: Comparative Perspectives Two major groups have historically populated the membership of ISKCON: first, the rebellious youth of the American counterculture, and second, the Indian immigrant community that exploded in the wake of 1960s immigration reform. While Indian American devotees currently represent a large proportion of ISKCON s following, their circumstances appear to differ dramatically from those of the counterculture s hippies. ... Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell Michelle Plavnik Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States PAGE 2 ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics. Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an ... Marshall Plan Essay This paper will analyze the Marshall Plan from both the international political economic (IPE) liberal and IPE critical theorist philosophies and what a theorist from each belief would say about the Marshall Plan in regards to its economic and political implications. The essay will do this first with an explanation of the IPE liberal theory; followed by an explanation of the IPE critical theory. Next, the essay will describe the background of the Marshall Plan aid and what the Marshall Plan hoped to accomplish in Europe, specifically Western Europe, following the end of the Second World War. The essay will then compare and contrast how an IPE liberal and IPE critical theorist would evaluate the Marshall Plan aid in Europe. Liberalism in the international political economy is a theory that arose together with the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Adam Smith and David Ricardo are two major theorists who promoted the idea that free trade and open markets are beneficial to all states and that they can generate wealth for all parties involved. (O Brien and Williams, 2013, pg.13 14) Within liberalism the important actor, the basic unit of analysis, is the individual, who is thought of as being able to analyze different choices and select the best approach. The individual seeks to foster growth for themselves and their business, which in turn, according to liberal theorists would create positive advancement for the entire economy. • 14. War Between Europeans And Indians Suspicion and hostility, branching from technological and cultural differences, as well as, mutual feelings of being superior, have infused relations between Native Americans and non Natives in North America. Intertribal conflicts among the Indians, and nationalistic rivalries, lacking faith, and expansion desires on the part of non natives worsened these tensions. The resulting white and native conflicts often took a particularly bad turn and resulted in the near destruction of the native people(Native American). War between Europeans and Indians was common back in the 1600s. In 1622, the Powhatans nearly wiped out the already struggling Jamestown colony. Frustrated at the continuing conflicts, Nathaniel Bacon and a group of whites destroyed the Pamunkey Indians before leading an unsuccessful revolt against colonial authorities in 1676. Continuous wars also plagued early Dutch colonies in New York. In New England, Puritan forces wiped out the Pequots in 1636, a campaign s intensity that seemed to shape the future. Following attacks inspired by King Philip against English settlements sparked a concerted response from the New England Confederation. Employing Indian partnerships and a scorched earth policy, the colonists nearly wiped out the Narragansetts, Wampanoag, and Nipmuck tribes in 1675 and1676. A major Pueblo revolt also threatened New Mexico in 1680 (European). Indians were also a key factor in the rivalries among France, Spain, and England. In King William s, Queen ... Greenwood (1763 1850) had trapped west of the Rocky Mountains since the 1820s and had guided the 1844 Stephens Townsend Murphy Party. On that earlier journey, Greenwood s emigrants with help from a Paiute they called Chief Truckee blazed a new Sierra crossing over Donner Pass. Guided by Greenwood, Imus followed the Truckee Trail toward Donner Pass. The party, however, found a better summit approach that bypassed the Truckee River Canyon [between Truckee and Verdi]. From 1847 until the railroad arrived, most emigrants preferred to use this wagon road. By mid October 1846, the Imus Party now only four wagons strong as the others had stayed at Sutter s Fort, near Dry Creek, and by the Mokelumne River reached Tulare ... • 19. The Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling Racial Profiling The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and I. They lived in Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young age. Their mother, Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working, residents of the US. Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for short, had suspicions that the young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was arrested and stayed at Yuba county jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad, missed school every wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they were in the fight against being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all because of assumptions to terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was striped from them. Racial profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has been around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result ... • 20. Sleep Apnea Definition According to the National heart, lung, and blood institute website, Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which a person has one or more pauses in breathing or weak breaths while they sleep (NIH National heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, definition). The pauses and breathing can last from a few seconds to minutes, and breathing pauses may happen 30 times or more an hour. After the pauses, normal breathing can start but with a loud snort or choking sound (NIH National heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, definition). Sleep Apnea can be categorized in three types: obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea syndrome. The cause of sleep apnea is due to a blockage of the throat muscles that keep airway flow open. Some of the reasons for the blockage can be the relaxing of throat muscles and tongue unusually, the size of your tongue and tonsils are not appropriate for the opening of your windpipe, and people with weight issues. Other reasons can be the size of your head and neck which may lead to a narrow airway passage in the mouth and throat. In addition, as people get older, the brain signals ability gets worse and causes throat muscles to stiffen. Consequently, airways have an increased chance of narrowing or collapsing (NIH National heart, lung and blood Institute, 2012, causes). Snoring is one of the most known factor of sleep apnea, and ... In Death Of A Salesman and Fences, these stories follow two middle class families around the same time period (late 1940 1950 s), who are both facing problems within their own household s. From marital issues to failing father/son relationships, both of these stories paint a picture to the audience of what life in an urban family living in that time setting was like through the author s eyes. Linda chose to ignore the fact that Willy was having an affair. By ignoring what was happening, Linda did not have to admit to herself what was going on, and saved herself some difficult choices. His famous funeral oration covered many topics, such as democracy, freedom, courage, and most of all the glory of Athens. This is best summed up in the thesis of the speech, where Pericles encourages Athenians to realize how great Athens is and fall in love with her. Pericles insists, When you realize her greatness, then reflect that what made her great was men with a spirit of adventure, men who knew their duty, and men who were ashamed to fall below a certain standard. • 24. The Ethics Of The English Marine Insurance System 1. Introduction While in recent years, more and more self help motivational books or websites may be encouraging an All or Nothing attitude towards life in general, one would indisputably agree that when an assured is taking up a policy, in this context, a Marine Policy, one is trying to protect against risks of the unknown, and definitely not signing up for a All or Nothing lottery game. However, two judgments in the English Courts for rules on proximate causation, particularly cases with a combination of perils to be considered, seemed to suggest the notion of Do you feel lucky today? thus raising doubts on the justice of the rules on proximate causation in the English marine insurance system. Hence, this paper aims to discuss in greater depth the reasoning and outcome of the two judgments i.e. the judgment of the Court of Appeal in The Miss Jay Jay [1987] 1 Lloyd s Rep 32, and of the Supreme Court judgment in The Cendor MOPU [2011] 1 Lloyd s Rep. 560, to see if they are an arguably sufficient justification for the view that the English marine insurance system rules on proximate causation should be repealed and replaced by a system similar to that used in the Nordic Marine Insurance Plan. 2. To me, all leisure meant was having free time to do whatever it is that I wanted to do. But after analyzing my life I noticed that I had surrounded my life with solely work and school and my free time was anytime I spent watching television and anytime I slept. However, after taking this course I learned that leisure meant more much than that. Now leisure to me means, as Richard Kraus states, leisure is time which is not devoted to work or work connected responsibilities or to other forms of discretionary or unobligated time, (Olson et al., 2003, 12). Yes, many do spend most of their time at work but assuredly if they were to reevaluate their time spent, they most definitely may find some of their extra time that could be spent on leisure. Without having or developing good time management skills, one may find it easier to stress out or find it easy to not make time for leisure. The results for a study conducted on 249 college students showed that the combination of anxiety reduction and effective time management affiliated with participating in leisure activities can be an effective technique for reducing academic stress (Misra McKean, 2000, 41). The same study also states that, campus recreation practitioners may plan leisure activities and social recreational pursuits that increase the educational benefit from leisure pursuits to help students handle their academic stress, (Misra McKean, 2000, 49). So therefore, there is time for leisure as long as we learn how to manage our time. Once we find time to participate in those activities we desired for so long, it will help cope with nerve racking situations that surround our lives. Documentaries are a representative medium, after all, and although they are able to give audiences insight into people and events that they were not able to experience first hand, there is much ambiguity surrounding the truthfulness of non fiction film.
