The And The Industrial Man
Since the founding of America, no singular method of governmental role has been adopted. The
concept of governmental role in American society is a subjective point. While some believe in a strong
government that controls and expands its role over many aspects of American society, others believe
that limiting government power is necessary to having a thriving society and economy. Clark Kerr
wrote the document Industrialism and the Industrial Man which highlights and explains the
perspective of having a centralized government in power. Contrastingly, Capitalism and Freedom,
written by Milton Friedman is in support of a limited government and placing a check on concentrated
power. Both documents reflect the two different styles of government and provide context to their
functions and the application of their duties. In Industrialism and the Industrial Man, Clark Kerr
depicts the concept of an industrial society characterized by a government that has a wide range of
activities and functions it controls. In this industrial society, the government provides and controls
technology, infrastructure, urban development, military, international relations, education, parks,
healthcare, and many other services to society. The government also keeps order of the economy,
controlling the labor and product markets. Even though this big government has many functions and
controls a large sector of society, Kerr explains that the freedom and personal liberty of the people will
not be placed in

Jud Süss Film Analysis
Twentieth century Europe was filled with diversity from Russia to Germany. People were driven to be
liberated from the abuse from their government. And they were able to do this with the help of the
second industrial revolution (Brose, 13). The revolution brought more transportation and more
opportunities for work, but it also brought the art of warfare with the colonies having access to natural
resources like oil and rubber. These resources helped manufacture the weaponry in Europe, weapons
like rifles, high caliber shells, and TNT (Brose, 18). Furthermore, the industrial revolution made it to
where the bourgeoisie was taking advantage of the proletarians even more than before (Brose, 25).
This resulted in the clash of the classes, and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thought the Jews were damaging the culture of Germany, and the race of Aryans by living around
them like parasites (Boyer Goldstein, 206). Moreover, he wanted to keep the Aryan race pure and safe
from the corruption of the Jews, for he believed they were defile creatures (Boyer Goldstein, 209).
This was illustrated in the film Jud Süss when Süss had defiled Dorothea Strum towards the end, he
was found guilty of miscegenation and was hung to death in front of the community. So to protect his
race, he decided to build ghettos in some areas to quarantine the Jews because he believed that they
were filthy and sneaky. Harlan illustrated this in the scene when Süss entered in Stuttgart and became
the duke s advisor. For the German citizens saw him as a poor and nasty immigrant from the ghettos
(Tegel, 80). These actions, as well as the secret attacks on the Jews in Weimar Republic stirred up the
warfare again (Brose, 18 ). Many of the Jews had been driven out by the Nazis, for they were
destroying their livelihood. Over five hundred synagogues had been burned down, over seven
thousand Jewish own shops had been ruin and about ninety Jews had been killed (Brose, 220) these
actions led to the extreme Holocaust and World War

Environmental And Humanitarian Issue Of Climate Change
One of the clearest and foremost environmental and humanitarian issue the world faces today is
climate change yet, you would almost not seem to know given the little attention major News
Corporations, such as ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS spend on addressing, or even acknowledging for
that matter, the issue. Just last year in 2015, all four of these major networks together spent a grand
total of 146 minutes of airtime discussing climate change. To put that into perspective, all four of
those major networks together spent less than one percent of one percent of the year talking about
climate change, or just over two hours of the year between all four major networks. To make matters
worse, not every minute of the time consuming 146 minutes between all four major news networks
that was allot to cover climate change were engaged in any serious discussion about the ramification
or future implications it will have on the very near future. There are networks that find it in their best
interest (FOX news in particular) to somehow argue against the science of climate change, to argue
against the science backed liberal conspiracy that wants to destroy the American homeland (or
something as radical as that, I m not too sure exactly what they [crazy evangelical Christian
conservatives] believe in). However, there is a bigger, more serious underlying issue here that is not
fully concerned with the media coverage that climate change unfortunately receives. The underlying
issue is perhaps why

The Effects of Human Activity on Coastal Landforms
The Effects of Human Activity on Coastal Landforms
Human activities add another layer of complexity to the natural processes of coastal lands and
materials. These activities may have direct or indirect effects on our changing coastlines. They may
effect sources of new sediment to the coast and the movement of sediment within the coastal
environment.
Sediment starvation caused by river and coastal management is one effect of human activities on the
coast. For some coastal regions, such as the Pacific coast, a large part of their sediment is supplied by
rivers. Dams built for flood control and water catchment along the rivers leading to these coasts inhibit
the transport of large grained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leaves the sand dunes more susceptible to erosion causing blowouts and disrupting the succession
of vegetation in the area. This has been a problem at Studland Bay in Dorset on the south coast of
England. Persistent human leisure activities on the dunes has led to substantial erosion in some parts
of these dunes which has meant that Management programs have had to been introduced by English
Nature.
Sand dunes help absorb the pounding of high waves and reduce overwash flooding in storms. It has
become common for sand dunes to be bulldozed to improve the views to the sea. However this
destroys the natural protection of the coast.
Human activities such as water transport also can cause problems for coastal areas. The dredging of
navigation channels and the discharging of the material in deep water to enable larger ships to travel
though water channels removes sediment from the coastal system leaving the area susceptible to
erosion and will also interfere with longshore drift which will prevent the coastal beach landforms
from being maintained such as the development of a spit. It is likely that a spit will be eroded and start
to regress in conditions such as these. An example is Spurn head Spit. Spurn head is lcated, on the
humber Estuary in North East England. The growth

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gond Tribe
ABSTRACT
The present study aimed at exploring the subject of livelihood opportunities and challenges to Gond
tribes in Gondia district of Maharashtra. Furthermore it sought to examine the socio economic
conditions of Gond tribes in same region. The study followed mixed research with both quantitative
and qualitative methodologies using semi structured interview, interview to key stake holders and non
participatory observation. Data for study was collected through closed ended as well as open ended
questions from 40 head of the households. Some of the key findings include failure of agriculture,

Engineering Performance-Based Fire Codes
Preliminary views on implementing Engineering Performance Based Fire Codes in Hong Kong: What
should be done? Abstract Engineering performance based fire codes (EPBFC) are to be developed in
Hong Kong. Before implementing EPBFC, or even writing down what should be done, such as the fire
safety objectives, current prescriptive fire codes should be understood. This will be a very big project
to be tackled step by step, certainly not regarded as a normal consultancy project which can be
completed within a short period of, say three years. Key points on suitability of implementing EPBFC
in Hong Kong, or preserving prescriptive codes but with active updating are discussed. Approaches
used overseas are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, before deciding whether to stick to prescriptive codes with active updating or to use EPBFC,
well planned long term investigational works should be carried out. This should also be a life long
research project for upgrading the code to solve new problems encountered. This was well recognized
by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). There, EPBFC has been studied since 1995 with
some support of Area of Strategic Development: Construction Industry Development Studies and
Research Centre. A journal [37] reporting the development, problems encountered, scientific
principles, engineering judgements and practical examples was established. It appears that if EPBFC
is applied properly by experts with good training in fire safety engineering such as those holding PhD
degrees, and with practical engineering experience up to Chartered Engineer status, the following can
be achieved as reported in the literature [13 34]: ← Better fire safety provisions than described in the
older versions of prescriptive codes for both passive and active fire safety measures [18]. ←
Regulations requiring systems that might not work in a fire or even give adverse effect can be pointed
out and updated. The requirements of installing sprinkler at high headroom atrium and in escape
staircases are obvious examples. This is similar to imposing the local speed limit of 50 km per hour in
downtown areas where almost all drivers will not pay attention to!

New Public Management Theory, Iran and Privatization
In the idea of theorists [9], there is nothing as important as publicity of governmental organizations.
The expression of publicity is an obvious symbol of public and private separation. We are going to
investigate the dimensions of negative effect of modern governmental management on the publicity of
administrational organizations. 3915

1. New public management: Filling the gap between public and private
One common assessment of public service democracy is the evaluation of unique or fundamental
qualities which are supposed to be the differentiating symbol of public and private. The insertion of
new public management into governmental organizations exterminatesthe border between them
because market, norms and unique standards of public service such as citizenship, responsibility,
equality, confronting and justice toward them which Islamicgovernments and developed countries like
America, England, France and Canada are supporters of, are rambled as some norms of business,
competition, productivity and benefit existed [9]. The researches in some countries such as England

Variances over the 13 15th Amendments and the connection between women s suffrage and the
measure for racial equality split the women s rights movement between two organizations: The
National Woman Suffrage Association and The American Woman Suffrage Association. The
adversaries will unite in 1890 to system the National American Women s Suffrage Association.
Women from both parties knew that in order to stay strong and win rights, is to combine and hold
hands with each other the whole process without fighting. The Territory of Wyoming passes the first
law in the country granting women over age 21 the right to vote. Later joining the Union in 1890,
Wyoming becomes the first state to let women the right to vote in all polls, yet in 1887, Kansas let
women to vote in municipal elections. Women knew every step to success in their goals is to have a
domino effect. One state will start off and every other state will end up granting equal rights to both
genders, therefore more support from more women from different states means support overall. A
federal law that let female federal workers equal pay and equal work is passed. Even though it was
passed, it was leaving out majority of female workers who work for private corporations and or state
and local governments until the adoption of the Equal Pay Act in 1963. Many holes where made and

Analysis Of The Film Portrait Of Disability
Portrait of Disability in the Film Industry
Perceptions and stereotypes of people with disabilities have tended to remain the same over the past
year, despite the continual progressing technology and legal rights. People with physical and mental
disabilities are stigmatized because their bodies and minds do not reflect the norm. Different
organizations and scholars have argued that the film industry in most of the cases has unjustly
represented disabled people. Using the method of observation to analyze A Beautiful Mind (2001),
Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Intouchables (2012), and Me Before You (2016) one can point
out those moments where these movies break or perpetuate the major stereotypes and myths about
disability. Film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Role Of The United Nations Peacekeeping Force As It...
Abstract
The objective for this paper is to evaluate the role and impact of the United Nations peacekeeping
force as it interrupts with international incidents. A background on the creation of the United Nations
and the evolution of the UN s peacekeeping will be provided. Two United Nations peacekeeping
operations (Bosnia and East Timor) will be explained in detail and provide improvements that can
contribute to future peacekeeping missions. The strengths and weaknesses of both peacekeeping
operations will be highlighted for justification about the improvements. This investigation will come
to a conclusion for the United Nations about the implications required for future peacekeeping
missions as it has floundered in previous missions.
The Beginning of the United Nations
Before the United Nations, an international organization who thrive to prevent future disputes through
negotiation, a similar international organization was created called the League of Nations. The League
of Nations was created in 1919 as a result of the Paris Peace Conference after World War 1. The
League of Nations thrived to the establishment of a conference which nations throughout the world
can resolve their disagreements to prevent future conflicts. However, the League of Nations was
disbanded due to the dawn of World War 2 and their unsatisfying performance maintaining peace. On
October 24th 1945, the existence of the United Nations finally came to the world. 5 permanent
members were assigned: China,

Warfare is a relentless pursuit to gain an edge on the opponent and defeat him as quickly as possible
and minimize your own losses. The new American way of war uses massive firepower, excels in
advanced technology, and pursues total victory. Backed by U.S. mighty military power, the new
American way of war has put on impressive shows in wars in Iraq, the former Yugoslavia, and
Afghanistan. The new American way of war is faster in maneuver, armed with sharper precision

During Operation Desert Storm, it became evident to the world that there was a new American way of
war and it was arguably a new revolution in military warfare. First, it was the speed in which entire
divisions could move so fast they consistently outmaneuvered the enemy. The speed and mobility in
which the US military drove into the heart of enemy lines put the Blitzkrieg to shame. Complete air
superiority gave US commanders total command and control of the airspace and denied the Iraqi s the
ability to conduct their own ISR. Second, it was the new technological advancements in night vision
and thermal imaging that gave the US military the ability to truly own the night. Night vision and
thermal imaging enabled tank commanders to see the heat signatures of Iraqi tanks hiding the desert in
the middle of the night and kill them. The latest generation electro optics attached to sniper scopes,
helicopters, and special forces troops took the battle into the night to a level previously unseen in the
history of warfare. In addition, advancements in global positioning systems for navigation, location
tracking, and precision guided munitions. Never before has there been the ability of a military to drop
bombs sometimes miles away and be remotely guided to their target with precise lethality. Enemy

Social Class and Education
Democracy is both an idea and a way of conducting a political government. In EDL 204 we looked at
democracy as an idea. Democracy as it relates to education refers to the need to teach children how to
be active and knowledgeable members in our democratic society. This preparation will lead them to
live life in a way that promotes the good of the public. In an essay by John Dewey he discusses
whether education is a public or private matter. Because the goal of democracy is education is to
prepare students for society, I believe it is a public matter. By developing a school system that
promotes democracy we will send our future leaders into the world with the capability of upholding
the values of a true democratic society that promotes a greater good for all citizens.
Many factors affect the success of a school system. The economic background and social class of the
community and individual students is one of the largest factors to consider when attempting to
structure a successful education plan. Social class is defined by the online Oxford Dictionary as a
division of a society based on social and economic status. This division can often effect more than a
child s home life. We know that social class and success in school are often positively correlated to
one another. This correlation is a major downfall in America s education system because it allows for
children who come from families in poverty to fall behind and be less successful than children of

deals with people s stories of greed, failure and success. One of the most successful characters in the

money through his intelligence. The majority of scholars and educators alike seem to think that the

financially successful and helping the Row, runs an illegitimate business; so, on a technical level, her
success isn t legitimate. Mack is full of contentment, yet he is poor and gets his money through

Fracture Hematoma Research Paper
A fracture occurs when there is a break in a bone. It can usually be healed, so long as portions of the
blood supply, periosteum, and endosteum are still intact. A fractured bone undergoes repair through a
series of four steps.
The first step in bone fracture repair is the formation of a hematoma. When blood vessels within the
bone tear, they hemorrhage. This results in the formation of a clot at the site of the break. Thus, a
fracture hematoma is formed, stopping the flow of blood into the fracture site which, in turn, cause
swelling.
Capillaries then grow into the fracture hematoma, while phagocytes start to clean up the dead cells
within the injury site. The fracture hematoma becomes more organized into a procallus. Fibroblasts

The Consequences Of Grade Inflation
The Consequences of Grade Inflation We ve all been pleasantly surprised by receiving a higher grade
than expected on a school assignment or exam. Unfortunately, the average grade being given to today
s college student does not reflect the quality of the work submitted, and it is having a negative effect
on students. Students end up using valuable grant and loan money taking developmental classes,
because they received passing grades in core subjects when they should have failed. Teachers have
adapted their grading system to reflect the under developed skills of the students. This practice
handicaps students during their academic years, as well as their post graduation and entry into the
workforce. Through a more rigid grading system, today s students would improve their work ethic and
become more prepared to face post graduation challenges. The problem we are discussing is called
grade inflation , and it has become widespread on campuses across America. In the 1950 s, the
average GPA for college students was 2.52; by 2006, that figure had risen to 3.11 (Newlon).
According to former Duke University professor Stuart Rojstaczer, At some colleges, over 50% of the
grades given are A s. Rojstaczer s school of thought is that this trend began during the Vietnam War
era, as a result of professors helping students to stay in school in order to avoid the draft (Newlon).
Long after the end of the Vietnam War and student deferments, this trend continues. This trend does

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Laws
If drunk driving laws were stricter there would be fewer death rates for intoxication manslaughter
around the world. More than 17,500 Americans lost their lives in drunk driving accidents in 1993 and
another 1,200,000 were injured, according to Mothers against Drunk Driving. That is one death every
30 minutes, and an injury every 26 seconds. (USA today magazine p.8). Sadly, those deaths would be
preventable if we had more severe laws against this issue. Drivers are aware of the laws and
consequences, but they re not aware of how they are destroying families. Victims Family s entire lives
are ruined because of the sudden death of their loved one, and they will never be able to reclaim their
regular life, while the offenders after a few days

Diomedes Poetry Analysis
Then, when the Achaeans start loosing, Athena and Hera harness Heras chariot and put on their armor.
When they get Zeus approval to aid the Acheans, they fly to the battlefield, and Hera gives courage to
the Achaean forces.Athena flies to Diomedes to remind him that she will protect him and that there
should be no reason to be afraid, in fact, she criticizes him. Diomedes replies that Ares is dominating
the battle resulting Athena to get into Diomedes chariot to attack Ares. With Athena s help, Diomedes
spears Ares; In a panic, Ares flies away. The gods constantly intervene in the war, and to some extent,
the tides of war can be measured by a gods intervention. Usually, when a god arrives, it changes the
outcome on the battlefield, as soldiers will are given new courage. With Athena s help, Diomedes
glory reaches its peak as he spears the god of war himself. The passage is interesting because it
suggests the relationship between free will and divinity in the poem. Diomedes deemed a strong
fighter, and yet he s dependent upon the gods for support. He not a free agent: instead, he needs the
help of gods and goddesses. In this way, the passage reinforces why religion and divine worship are so
important in the poem: without the gods maneuvering them, the characters couldn t accomplish much.
Finally, the gods intervention is a reinforcement that the battle between Achaea and Troy is a battle
between groups of gods in conflict. At the beginning of book four, the

Analysis Of The Movie Good Morning Miss Allen
Good afternoon Miss Allen, how may I be of assistance? Barry heard Gideon, her personal interactive
artificial consciousness ask her as she walked into the small private room.
Gideon, show me the timeline that you wanted me to see.
The timeline in question showed up using Gideon s holographic features; Central City in ruins with
warps every other block while dangerous metahumans ran amok. The innocent civilians sitting in their
homes too afraid to leave the comfort of their houses, and the Flash doing everything she could to stop
the metahumans from tormenting them. Barry looked at the hologram in shock as she saw burning
buildings, cars turned each or every way, shattered glass, and bodies stacked on top of one another.
Why is this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon entering she saw her scarlet friction proof suit staring back at her, taunting her, as if saying she
had to bring down Warp no matter the cost. She ignored the feeling and walked past it into the training
room to begin her afternoon exercise in order to think of a solution. By the time all three of her
teammates arrived she had over 750 mph and crashed into the padded wall about four times before
staring to run again. And a possible idea.
Hey Barry, we re all here. What s wrong? coming to a slow stop the female speedster looked up to see
Cisco Ramon talking to her through the intercom a worried expression on his face. Giving him a small
smile, she walked out of the training room and gestured to the cortex in which Caitlin and Harry were
waiting for them. Upon their arrival to the cortex, Caitlin and Harry looked from their seats behind the
computers. Caitlin shared the same look as Cisco while Harry had a curious expression.
Barry took a deep breath, Gideon, I need you to show them the new timeline.
On que, the AI showed the hologram that she had showed her creator just 30 minutes ago. Seeing this
the Flash crew looked at the hologram with utter surprise, Cisco didn t even care about how Gideon let
herself be apart of the main interface. Barry felt their eyes staring at her waiting for her to say
something, anything.
Gideon has given me the news about the change in timeline due to the arrival of Warp,

The Effect of Substrate Concentration on the Rate of Reaction
Method I generally followed most of my plan for the experiments, but to improve accuracy and
reliability, I made one change. In my plan, I said that I was going to use 20cm³ of starch for each
experiment. However, in my actual experiment I used 40cm³ of starch. This is because I thought I
might not have had enough solution if I only used 20cm³ of starch. If this was the case, then I would
have to stop the experiment half way through, which would have prevented me from obtaining
accurate results. So for this reason, my results would be more accurate and reliable. For everything
else, I followed my original plan. To ensure the results were accurate, I made sure I accurately

Rim s Research In Motion
Research in Motion (RIM) is known as a multinational telecommunications establishment which is
responsible for designing, manufacturing and marketing the wireless solution for the
telecommunication and mobile markets, especially its Blackberry lines. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina,
2013) RIM was first founded and owned by Mike Lazaridis in 1985 and Jim Balsillie had joined the
company as a co chief executive later in 1992. The company was seriously affected by the launch of
iPhone in 2007. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) The market share of Blackberry has been dropped
from 20% to 5%. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) In 2011, RIM s stock price significantly dropped
by 75 %, following with the launches of a collective of lukewarm products, and declines in share.
Following the resignation of many shareholders, the two founders, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie,
then have been replaced and RIM has been taken over by Thorsten Heins. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina,
2013) According to Heins, the current issues that RIM is facing have nothing to deal with the original
strategic plan, and it is all about marketing and communication. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013)
Also, to prove for his points, Heins has emphasized on the significant improvements at RIM which is
debt free and holding $2.9 billion cash on hand. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) Heins has predicted
the big turnaround for RIM will happen at the moment that the Blackberry 10 launches into the
market. (Burr,

Shared Knowledge And Personal Knowledge
Shared knowledge and personal knowledge, although they may come from the same concept of
acquiring them through a variety of situations, it differs on the process of gaining them. Thereupon,
such approach is seen through human sciences and natural sciences. Human sciences portray shared
knowledge through socio psychological experiments and theories created from personal experiences
and circumstances, as well as a set of collective norms and values that change depending on a group of
society or culture. On the other hand, natural sciences are made up of theories, formulation of
hypothesis and through experiments; which are obtained from paradigm shifts where it involves
perception, reasoning, language, and memory. But how does shared knowledge and personal
knowledge differ or are similar in both natural and human sciences?

Winston (2004) stated that one of the essential components to recognize universities is the distinctions

that both public and private institutions are similar in their subsidies but one uses them to finance
items to support their utilization, while the last depends on charitable gifts to get a similar thing and
with similar magnitudes. Nonetheless, the comparative appropriations in both open and private sector
institutions are created through various cost and price approaches, which prompts diverse measure of

Heller Nelson s examinations demonstrate that schools and colleges are moving their concentration to
making a class of selective students and climbing up on the distinction stepping stool. At the end of
the day, however, the chain of importance of advanced education considered by these two authors is
construct more in light of the establishments scholastic importance than on the span of student
sponsorships accessible at the schools.
Subsidizing Public Higher Education Customarily, open or public, advanced education is intensely
sponsored and bolstered by the federal government. Comprehensively, resources that help student
subsidies in the public colleges and universities principally originate from the general public as a
result of the conviction that advanced education is something worth being thankful for and that society
all in all will profit by having all the more knowledgeable individuals (Winston, 2004). Therefore, the
government, in type of the general public, relies upon income to create public appropriations to help
advanced education.
Initially, the government is the biggest contributor of outside awards and money related funding to
students. Government money is mostly need based, which implies students need to exhibit that they
have budgetary needs to be qualified for the grants (Archibald and Feldman, 2011). The essential

The location originates in her hometown of Pittman, Kentucky, in the nineteen eighties. Although this
city is non existent in reality, the Kingsolver states, Pittman, Kentucky, the starting point of The Bean
Trees, resembles any number of small towns in east central Kentucky where I grew up. I didn t invent
its weathered looks, its party line phones, it s inclination to rally around good gossip or a neighbor in
need. Those things I described from experience in a real place (Kingsolver, About Writing).
Kingsolver weaves her personal experiences into her novel, possibly allowing her to relive past
memories. From the city of Pittman, Taylor leaves to create a new life for herself. Taylor s car breaks
down, leaving her stranded and helpless in Oklahoma city. While stuck in the city, Taylor feels
lonesome, as the city has no signs of any human activity. Taylor states The sight of it filled me with

personalities. Some say that dictators have heartless in their crimes and cruelty to humanity. Dictators
get addicted to the power, money and respect. Money, power and respect are equally important to
them. They will do whatever necessary to have it all. Idi Amin and Rafael Trujillo are two leaders we
can compare in this situation. Rafael Trujillo was more merciful than Idi Amin. Idi Amin Dada was
born on 1925 in Uganda. Idi Amin s brutality gave him his nickname, Butcher of Uganda, during this
time of rule. Before his life as a dictator, Idi Amin was a swimmer, boxer, and member of the King s

  • 2. The And The Industrial Man Since the founding of America, no singular method of governmental role has been adopted. The concept of governmental role in American society is a subjective point. While some believe in a strong government that controls and expands its role over many aspects of American society, others believe that limiting government power is necessary to having a thriving society and economy. Clark Kerr wrote the document Industrialism and the Industrial Man which highlights and explains the perspective of having a centralized government in power. Contrastingly, Capitalism and Freedom, written by Milton Friedman is in support of a limited government and placing a check on concentrated power. Both documents reflect the two different styles of government and provide context to their functions and the application of their duties. In Industrialism and the Industrial Man, Clark Kerr depicts the concept of an industrial society characterized by a government that has a wide range of activities and functions it controls. In this industrial society, the government provides and controls technology, infrastructure, urban development, military, international relations, education, parks, healthcare, and many other services to society. The government also keeps order of the economy, controlling the labor and product markets. Even though this big government has many functions and controls a large sector of society, Kerr explains that the freedom and personal liberty of the people will not be placed in ... • 3. Jud Süss Film Analysis Twentieth century Europe was filled with diversity from Russia to Germany. People were driven to be liberated from the abuse from their government. And they were able to do this with the help of the second industrial revolution (Brose, 13). The revolution brought more transportation and more opportunities for work, but it also brought the art of warfare with the colonies having access to natural resources like oil and rubber. These resources helped manufacture the weaponry in Europe, weapons like rifles, high caliber shells, and TNT (Brose, 18). Furthermore, the industrial revolution made it to where the bourgeoisie was taking advantage of the proletarians even more than before (Brose, 25). This resulted in the clash of the classes, and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He thought the Jews were damaging the culture of Germany, and the race of Aryans by living around them like parasites (Boyer Goldstein, 206). Moreover, he wanted to keep the Aryan race pure and safe from the corruption of the Jews, for he believed they were defile creatures (Boyer Goldstein, 209). This was illustrated in the film Jud Süss when Süss had defiled Dorothea Strum towards the end, he was found guilty of miscegenation and was hung to death in front of the community. So to protect his race, he decided to build ghettos in some areas to quarantine the Jews because he believed that they were filthy and sneaky. Harlan illustrated this in the scene when Süss entered in Stuttgart and became the duke s advisor. For the German citizens saw him as a poor and nasty immigrant from the ghettos (Tegel, 80). These actions, as well as the secret attacks on the Jews in Weimar Republic stirred up the warfare again (Brose, 18 ). Many of the Jews had been driven out by the Nazis, for they were destroying their livelihood. Over five hundred synagogues had been burned down, over seven thousand Jewish own shops had been ruin and about ninety Jews had been killed (Brose, 220) these actions led to the extreme Holocaust and World War ... • 4. Environmental And Humanitarian Issue Of Climate Change One of the clearest and foremost environmental and humanitarian issue the world faces today is climate change yet, you would almost not seem to know given the little attention major News Corporations, such as ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS spend on addressing, or even acknowledging for that matter, the issue. Just last year in 2015, all four of these major networks together spent a grand total of 146 minutes of airtime discussing climate change. To put that into perspective, all four of those major networks together spent less than one percent of one percent of the year talking about climate change, or just over two hours of the year between all four major networks. To make matters worse, not every minute of the time consuming 146 minutes between all four major news networks that was allot to cover climate change were engaged in any serious discussion about the ramification or future implications it will have on the very near future. There are networks that find it in their best interest (FOX news in particular) to somehow argue against the science of climate change, to argue against the science backed liberal conspiracy that wants to destroy the American homeland (or something as radical as that, I m not too sure exactly what they [crazy evangelical Christian conservatives] believe in). However, there is a bigger, more serious underlying issue here that is not fully concerned with the media coverage that climate change unfortunately receives. The underlying issue is perhaps why ... • 5. The Effects of Human Activity on Coastal Landforms The Effects of Human Activity on Coastal Landforms Human activities add another layer of complexity to the natural processes of coastal lands and materials. These activities may have direct or indirect effects on our changing coastlines. They may effect sources of new sediment to the coast and the movement of sediment within the coastal environment. Sediment starvation caused by river and coastal management is one effect of human activities on the coast. For some coastal regions, such as the Pacific coast, a large part of their sediment is supplied by rivers. Dams built for flood control and water catchment along the rivers leading to these coasts inhibit the transport of large grained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leaves the sand dunes more susceptible to erosion causing blowouts and disrupting the succession of vegetation in the area. This has been a problem at Studland Bay in Dorset on the south coast of England. Persistent human leisure activities on the dunes has led to substantial erosion in some parts of these dunes which has meant that Management programs have had to been introduced by English Nature. Sand dunes help absorb the pounding of high waves and reduce overwash flooding in storms. It has become common for sand dunes to be bulldozed to improve the views to the sea. However this destroys the natural protection of the coast. Human activities such as water transport also can cause problems for coastal areas. The dredging of navigation channels and the discharging of the material in deep water to enable larger ships to travel though water channels removes sediment from the coastal system leaving the area susceptible to erosion and will also interfere with longshore drift which will prevent the coastal beach landforms from being maintained such as the development of a spit. It is likely that a spit will be eroded and start to regress in conditions such as these. An example is Spurn head Spit. Spurn head is lcated, on the humber Estuary in North East England. • 7. Engineering Performance-Based Fire Codes Preliminary views on implementing Engineering Performance Based Fire Codes in Hong Kong: What should be done? Abstract Engineering performance based fire codes (EPBFC) are to be developed in Hong Kong. Before implementing EPBFC, or even writing down what should be done, such as the fire safety objectives, current prescriptive fire codes should be understood. This will be a very big project to be tackled step by step, certainly not regarded as a normal consultancy project which can be completed within a short period of, say three years. Key points on suitability of implementing EPBFC in Hong Kong, or preserving prescriptive codes but with active updating are discussed. Approaches used overseas are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, before deciding whether to stick to prescriptive codes with active updating or to use EPBFC, well planned long term investigational works should be carried out. This should also be a life long research project for upgrading the code to solve new problems encountered. This was well recognized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). There, EPBFC has been studied since 1995 with some support of Area of Strategic Development: Construction Industry Development Studies and Research Centre. A journal [37] reporting the development, problems encountered, scientific principles, engineering judgements and practical examples was established. It appears that if EPBFC is applied properly by experts with good training in fire safety engineering such as those holding PhD degrees, and with practical engineering experience up to Chartered Engineer status, the following can be achieved as reported in the literature [13 34]: ← Better fire safety provisions than described in the older versions of prescriptive codes for both passive and active fire safety measures [18]. ← Regulations requiring systems that might not work in a fire or even give adverse effect can be pointed out and updated. The requirements of installing sprinkler at high headroom atrium and in escape staircases are obvious examples. This is similar to imposing the local speed limit of 50 km per hour in downtown areas where almost all drivers will not pay attention to! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Film Portrait Of Disability Portrait of Disability in the Film Industry Perceptions and stereotypes of people with disabilities have tended to remain the same over the past year, despite the continual progressing technology and legal rights. People with physical and mental disabilities are stigmatized because their bodies and minds do not reflect the norm. Different organizations and scholars have argued that the film industry in most of the cases has unjustly represented disabled people. Using the method of observation to analyze A Beautiful Mind (2001), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Intouchables (2012), and Me Before You (2016) one can point out those moments where these movies break or perpetuate the major stereotypes and myths about disability. During Operation Desert Storm, it became evident to the world that there was a new American way of war and it was arguably a new revolution in military warfare. First, it was the speed in which entire divisions could move so fast they consistently outmaneuvered the enemy. The speed and mobility in which the US military drove into the heart of enemy lines put the Blitzkrieg to shame. Complete air superiority gave US commanders total command and control of the airspace and denied the Iraqi s the ability to conduct their own ISR. Second, it was the new technological advancements in night vision and thermal imaging that gave the US military the ability to truly own the night. Night vision and thermal imaging enabled tank commanders to see the heat signatures of Iraqi tanks hiding the desert in the middle of the night and kill them. • 14. Social Class and Education Democracy is both an idea and a way of conducting a political government. In EDL 204 we looked at democracy as an idea. Democracy as it relates to education refers to the need to teach children how to be active and knowledgeable members in our democratic society. This preparation will lead them to live life in a way that promotes the good of the public. In an essay by John Dewey he discusses whether education is a public or private matter. Because the goal of democracy is education is to prepare students for society, I believe it is a public matter. By developing a school system that promotes democracy we will send our future leaders into the world with the capability of upholding the values of a true democratic society that promotes a greater good for all citizens. Many factors affect the success of a school system. The economic background and social class of the community and individual students is one of the largest factors to consider when attempting to structure a successful education plan. Social class is defined by the online Oxford Dictionary as a division of a society based on social and economic status. This division can often effect more than a child s home life. We know that social class and success in school are often positively correlated to one another. This correlation is a major downfall in America s education system because it allows for children who come from families in poverty to fall behind and be less successful than children of higher ... It can usually be healed, so long as portions of the blood supply, periosteum, and endosteum are still intact. A fractured bone undergoes repair through a series of four steps. The first step in bone fracture repair is the formation of a hematoma. When blood vessels within the bone tear, they hemorrhage. This results in the formation of a clot at the site of the break. Thus, a fracture hematoma is formed, stopping the flow of blood into the fracture site which, in turn, cause swelling. • 21. The Consequences Of Grade Inflation The Consequences of Grade Inflation We ve all been pleasantly surprised by receiving a higher grade than expected on a school assignment or exam. Unfortunately, the average grade being given to today s college student does not reflect the quality of the work submitted, and it is having a negative effect on students. Students end up using valuable grant and loan money taking developmental classes, because they received passing grades in core subjects when they should have failed. Teachers have adapted their grading system to reflect the under developed skills of the students. This practice handicaps students during their academic years, as well as their post graduation and entry into the workforce. Through a more rigid grading system, today s students would improve their work ethic and become more prepared to face post graduation challenges. The problem we are discussing is called grade inflation , and it has become widespread on campuses across America. In the 1950 s, the average GPA for college students was 2.52; by 2006, that figure had risen to 3.11 (Newlon). The gods constantly intervene in the war, and to some extent, the tides of war can be measured by a gods intervention. Usually, when a god arrives, it changes the outcome on the battlefield, as soldiers will are given new courage. With Athena s help, Diomedes glory reaches its peak as he spears the god of war himself. The passage is interesting because it suggests the relationship between free will and divinity in the poem. Diomedes deemed a strong fighter, and yet he s dependent upon the gods for support. He not a free agent: instead, he needs the help of gods and goddesses. In this way, the passage reinforces why religion and divine worship are so important in the poem: without the gods maneuvering them, the characters couldn t accomplish much. Finally, the gods intervention is a reinforcement that the battle between Achaea and Troy is a battle between groups of gods in conflict. At the beginning of book four, the ...
