Silvio Napoli at Schindler India
Questions:
„X Evaluate the logic of Silvio Napoli 's strategy for selling standardized elevators in India.
„X What should Silvio do about the order for non–standard elevators?
To understand Silvio Napoli 's strategy for selling standardized elevators in India, let us first take a
look at the Indian markets using the CAGE framework:
Culture Economic
– Sensitivity of Indian employees to organizational power and relationships
– Different management styles of Indian managers ¡V "friendly and easygoing"
– Huge curve to adjust to Indian living conditions ¡V housing, school, doctors, grocery shopping,
etc.
– Mostly untrustworthy middle–men offering all kinds of services
– Difficult to find office space
– Inability of the market to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support this, the logistics, manufacturing and basic installation of the elevators was to be all done
in India. But, this meant that the original Swiss policies and procedures used at Schindler 's
operations in Europe would need to be transferred over to their manufacturing in India. Based on his
research of the Indian market and its culture, Silvio was aware that it would not be an easy task for
their Indian manufacturing to learn and incorporate the procedures.
So, Silvio decided to minimize the learning curve burden for their manufacturing operations by
picking only two elevator configurations that Schindler India would build:
¡V Model S001 for low–rise buildings ¡V completely outsourced to local suppliers
¡V Model S003P for medium–rise buildings ¡V imported
He also decided that these elevators would be standardized and no customization would be allowed
for the Indian market. This was to keep complexity and costs low and to make Schindler an efficient
manufacturing operation.
However, there were several problems with this strategy:
¡V Schindler 's corporate structure and management practices were misaligned to the Indian
subsidiary 's objectives
¡V The generic offerings S001 and S003P had thin profit margins and they did not fit well within the
business plan of offering customized sales and service
¡V Schindler would be

The Devil In The White City Analysis
The Columbian World's Exposition of 1893 marked an important time in American history. The
overall fame of the World's Columbian Exposition, or also known as the Chicago World's Fair, is in
large part due to the spread of ideas and inventions that originated at the fair itself. The novel, The
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, depicts a clear portrait of the fair's impact in the time
leading up to, during, and after the exposition. The fair established itself as a metaphorical historical
monument, in the way that it honored the past and served as a memorial to Columbus, and the way
that it impacted future societies and events. The fair began as a show of superiority on part of
American society, over all other countries, like France or England. Regarding competition, the fair
sought to "Out–Eiffel" Gustave Eiffel, architect of the Eiffel Tower, for architecture, and to outclass
the rest of the world in all other fields. The fair also served to foreshadow the growing powers of
America both intellectually and militarily; the spirit and ideas shown at the fair showed the
emergence of intellectual superiority that would only serve as a sample of the achievements of
society that were yet to come. The intellectual productions of the fair can be attributed to the
architectural firm coordinating the event, Burnham and Root. The firm was headed by Daniel
Burnham and John Root, both accredited as the brightest in their field. Under their management, the

Essay on 1 Kings
1 Kings
Introduction In 1 Kings 18–19 we are introduced to one of the most magical men in the Bible, and to
one of the greatest miracles. Along with Moses and Jesus, Elijah is among the great miracle workers
of the world. Elijah used miracles to bring Israel up out of shambles, if just for a moment. He also
showed extreme faith and perseverance in the face of great odds. But the true character of Elijah lies
in his name, which literally means, "Yahweh is my God (Anderson 246)."
Prelude to The Contest
In order to understand chapters 18 and 19 of 1 Kings, one must get some background on its main
character. In 1 Kings 17, we are first introduced to Elijah. At the time, Israel is at one of its lowest
points. King Ahab and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elijah tells Obadiah to go to Ahab and tell him that he wants to meet with him. When the meeting
occurs, Ahab refers to Elijah as "the troubler of Israel (1 Kings 18:17)." Elijah responds by saying
that Israel has brought the trouble upon themselves by worshiping Baal. This is the first statement of
the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his
people and the "prophets of Baal" at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19).
It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament. One
man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of faith. He
declares that the worshipers of Baal will cut a bull into pieces and set it upon the altar of Baal. As
the lone representative of Yahweh, Elijah will then cut up a bull and set it upon the altar of Yahweh.
The prophets are then to call upon Baal to strike the altar with fire. Elijah will then call upon
Yahweh to strike his altar with fire. The true god could then be determined.
The prophets do as instructed and call upon Baal to ignite their altar. They call out and dance, but
nothing happened. All the while Elijah is taunting them, asking them why Baal is not responding.
The failure of Baal to react is made even more dramatic when one recognizes the fact that Baal is
the supposed god of weather,

First Industrial Revolution
1712 – The first steam engine was invented by Thomas Newcomen. After Thomas Newcomen
invented the steam engine this became a very important source of power for the industrial
revolution.
1760 – The first industrial revolution begins around 1760 in textile industry which was in Great
Britain. Over the next decade, manufacturing was change from all hand work into machines.
1764 – A great invention was made by James Hargreaves. It was called a spinning jenny, allowing a
worker to produce multiple spools of thread at the same time. This was much quicker and much
easier for the workers.
1781 – In 1781 the first steam engine was improved by James Watt. He made this useful source

Shawn Love Mrs. Echols ERWC, Period 2 12 February 2017 The Advancements in Architecture
"The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more
beautiful than it was before the building was built" (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries,
architecture has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the
political and economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can
still idolize ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that
time influenced them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong
today, they had few materials to work with and they weren't as strong ... Show more content on

Previously, metals weren't in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant that
buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone, and
concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also changed
architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons, and by 1900,
it rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel, which was not
only stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength greater than any other
material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to design much taller buildings
with a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that prevented architects from doing so. "To
cement a new friendship, especially between foreigners or persons of a different social world, a
spark with which both were secretly charged must fly from person to person, and cut across the
accidents of place and time" (Elisha Graves Otis). Elevators have been known to exist since the
Roman era. They were created with a basic pulley system that were operated by either humans,
animals, or water power. For example, Rome's Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the
gladiators and wild animals from one stage floor to the next. In England, elevators were powered by
a steam machine or a hydraulic pump and were used to bring up the monarch's food more

The Declaration Of Independence As Said By Thomas Jefferson
The Declaration of Independence as said by Thomas Jefferson is "an expression of the American
Mind". Jefferson along with John Locke and other English constitutionalist theorists detailed the
abuses by George III, brilliantly summarizing the views of the colonist who were seeking distance
from England. Many of these grievances were politically shaped, others dealt with the American
economy. The first one states "For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world". Instead of
allowing the colonist free commercial trade with other nations, the home government did all in its
power to restrict them to trade exclusively with Great Britain. Favorable and profitable trade with
the Spanish and French was destroyed. The mother land was ruining America's web they built for
trading. Another major grievance was "For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent", believing
that Great Britain had an unquestionable right to tax its colonies on all foreign goods imported by
the Americans. This is when the term "no taxation without representation" was born. The next is
"For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for
us in all cases whatsoever." This grievance dealt with the fact that British policy stated with absolute
clarity that in belief the British government could simply do as it pleased with the American people
almost as if that people were its slaves. The king had full control over the colonies and all of the
decisions that were

Argumentative Essay On Gun Violence
Many believe that as the year progresses, our lives become more dangerous for us to be a part of.
However, Zachary Crockett states that the beginning is bad, and "In the first 24 hours of the new
year, 264 separate incidents of gun violence happened across the United States" (Crockett 1). He is
helping us to illustrate we struggle throughout the entire year, and we get attacked at the times
which we least expect them to happen. In the infographic that is being shown, Chicago was reported
to have "24 shootings, leaving 3 dead and 28 injured", leading us to the idea that some towns are at
more risk than others (Crockett 1). He is leading us to believe that some cities, like Chicago, face a
better likliness of shootings occurring, then in some other cities. There needs to be a better handle of
guns in this area, and take caution so that many do not get hurt. When trying to depict other
important details, Crockett helps explain that "every day, and average of 112 people are killed or
injured by gun violence in America" (Crockett 1). There needs to be a tighter grip on not only the
actions of the people in the country, but the weapon. Guns cause a lot of stress and havoc across the
country, and if we could allow ourselves to overcome this, then we would be helping ourselves out.
Zachary Crockett has written for many magazines, websites, etc. and they all enjoy the work that he
does for them. He has a lot of experience in his field, especially crime and politics, so when
discusses gun violence, he has plenty of knowledge. He has been cited by the White House, so he
has the backing of the president with him. Likewise, he also has co–authored two bestselling books,
which allows him to be recognized as a very unique, but reliable source. The information that comes
from him are truthful facts that are detailed descriptions from real life occurrences in our society.
When someone is incorporating real life examples into their articles, they place themselves higher
on the minds of others on credibility. The Vox uses their own material, and allows for their
information to be unique. They get their facts from bigger and more important factual sources, and
they allow for their writers to expand on the information they

Abc Insurance Company Case
1. Facts: A woman was seriously injured when an elevator owned by a company, that is insured by
ABC Insurance Company, fell uncontrollably from the fourth floor to the second floor of a building.
A third–party company was responsible for the maintenance of the elevator. They did not take care
of the elevator properly, causing the elevator to fall, resulting in the severe injury of this woman.
2. Stakeholders: I would say the stakeholders in the case are:
a. The Elevator Company
b. ABC Insurance Company
c. Myself, the President of ABC Insurance Company
d. The third–party maintenance company
e. The owner of the building the elevator was in
f. The attorneys of ABC Insurance Company
g. The woman injured
h. The injured woman's attorney

Most important:
a. I would have to say the Elevator company is most important in this situation. I only feel this way
because they are the client of ABC Insurance Company, my client, the President. The Insurance
company is paid to protect the Elevator company when unfortunate situations like these occur.
Therefore, I feel that we need to put the Elevator Company's concerns and reputation as top priority.
b. The value of doing the right thing is most important. Yes, we need to be concerned about the
Elevator Company and put them first. However, the injury that occurred to her was our fault and we
need to take ownership of our actions. A few of the alternative actions I listed would cause the least
impact to the Elevator Company and provide the plaintiff justice.
c. I think that doing the right thing is the going to cause the greatest good and least harm. We as
humans make mistakes but we need to own up to those mistakes. As the President of this company I
cannot have on my conscious something like the Attorney proposed. It is conniving, wrong and

Male Congregant Case
By way of brief summary, the case study I make reference to here concerns an incident that occurred
while serving as a pastoral intern several months ago. I was asked by a friend and congregant to
provide a ride home to a male congregant. This request stood at odds with my pastoral covenant and
thus had to be refused. This mismatch of expectations and presumed lack of awareness on the part of
the requesting congregant led to a somewhat awkward situation, which, after being resolved, was
followed with a brief word of explanation to my friend. To maintain anonymity, throughout this
paper I will use the designators "BC" to refer to my friend and "FL" to refer to the male congregant.

I am reminded of a non–denominational mega church in Chicago that is comprised of the upper
class of people and all kinds of modern facilities that to me personally gave an impression of
snobbery and a non–church experience. It seemed it was a public event that was for the sake of fun.
This further implicates the opinion that a church experience does not mean one is having "fun," but
worshipping God with one's heart and mind that needs to be fully involved. A worship experience
must be a true experience of interacting with God and being in the presence of God, which at the
same time, does not mean that churches should discontinue acts of hospitality and pastoral love.
Last year, at a denominational church, I came to experience a service that was most unfriendly,
unwelcoming, and questioned if that church offered a concert or an experience of worshipping God.
Israel Galindo delineates the concept of church programs as reflective of who they are, or what is
the "feel" that they receive at a certain church. He also mentions "assessing the pastor's relationship
with the church." This has implications for church culture within churches and the relationship
between the clergy

Richard Gardner Essay
Richard W. Gardner, along with Edward C. Randall, both fishing friends, became a co–owner of
Arcadia Is. in 1921 obtaining it from George Magoon, a Pennsylvanian coal tycoon. Mr. Gardner
was the Vice President of Otis Elevators Company, the world's largest elevator company.
Richard was one of a trio of brothers born to John and Sarah
Gardner in Dearborn, Michigan. His father worked as a humble farmer labourer on the average size
Whitney farm in the boy's early childhood. John had married into the Whitney family by joining
with his wife, Sarah Whitney. John saved enough money over Richard's first decade to buy his own
farm a bit farther north of Dearborn in the in South Rockwood, Township of Austin. The hard
working father unfortunately died in 1880 and the widowed Sarah took her family to Detroit and
hopefully a better life.
In 1890 the three brothers, Richard, Oliver (b 1872) and 13 year old George (b 1877) formed the

business of hauling people up in ever higher buildings created severe competition. When they

Mercy Otis Warren As A Leader Of The Revolution
Mercy Otis Warren was one of the few women to give public voice to her political sentiments.
Mercy was the sister of James Otis, a leader of the Revolution. She wrote several satirical plays and
corresponded with many prominent figures in colonial society, including Samuel Adams, George
Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Elbridge Gerry and Alexander Hamilton. She maintained an
especially close contact with Jordan and Abigail Adams. She structured her political comments
within plays, none of which she preformed on stage because Mercy has specifically written them for
publication in the newspapers. Through her plays Mercy revealed her contempt for the Tory
Administration in Boston and her passion for Whig ideology. "Mercy believed that a women's
primary focus should be her family, but asserted that it was important for women to be aware of
politics in order to better serve their families." (Volo, 2003) Warren was among the women who
chose to publish their views. Women were active ad printers and publishers during the war. Women
who feared criticism for meddling too directly in politics published their poems and letters into the
newspaper anonymously. In 1772, Warren published anonymously her "biting satire of Royal
Governor Thomas Hutchinson, The Adulator. First appearing in two installments in the
Massachusetts Spy, the play ended with a warning that the people might take up arms."
(Gundersen,1996) She wrote two more plays on political themes by 1774 and pamphlets, all

My Personal Experience : My Experience In The Middle School
In middle school, I was a weird, chunky kid. Not that being chunky is weird, I just looked like a
little bowling ball with really frizzy hair. Having never really been good at sports, I was never really
cool, and neither were my friends. It wasn't until I saw my friend drawing, that I decided to give it a
shot. I knew I wasn't very good when I started but I didn't really care. Wanting to get better, so I
practiced more and more. At this time I was only in second grade, so I was just grateful that I found
something I enjoyed.
Going to a Catholic middle school was really important to my development as a person. I don't
really have an opinion on the religious part, but the kids there were completely different from me. In
6th grade, I really started to delve deeper into art. From constantly doodling in the margins of my
notebook, to drawing at home, I learned that creating was something that I desired more time for. I
never really got that feeling of excitement while at my middle school school. Even then, I knew I
wanted to be in a place surrounded by other artists, a place where I could get inspired, and be able to
create every day, not just before bed. I learned about a magnet school near me, and the thought of it
excited me. In preparation to getting into the high school I dreamed of going to, I attended classes
outside of my school for about a year. There, I received discipline in art, to prepare for creating a
portfolio. Thankfully, I ended up getting accepted. Going to

The industrial revolution was a period in time where there were a lot of major changes happening in
agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation that affected living conditions. People were able to
transport faster and more easily, but so could ideas. Around the world new ideas were being shared
which created a competitive environment on who could come up with what first. These changes
were the causes that generated the industrial revolution. The kick off to the industrial revolution
started with Richard Arkwright who is credited with the development of the mechanized cotton mill.

The Bessemer process for making steel was one of these inventions. The Bessemer process
improved the strength of iron. Henry Bessemer developed this process. He made it possible to
convert pig iron to steel by removing impurities rather than adding carbon. This process took a lot
less time than other processes and was cheaper. The Bessemer process made steel framed buildings
more popular and allowed buildings to rise as high as nine or ten stories. George A. Fuller was an
inventor of the skyscraper and constructed the Tacoma Building in 1889 in Chicago using the
Bessemer steel beams. It was also the first structure to use internal supports so that the exterior walls
wouldn't carry any extra weight (Ireland). Another great invention that impacted architecture during
the industrial revolution was the elevator break. During the mid 19th century Elisha Graves Otis
invented the new breaking system. This new breaking system was for the platform that would
prevent the cab from falling if the cables were severed. The same process is still used today. Without
the breaking system buildings were limited to about six stories however, elevators then made
skyscrapers feasible

Dumbwaiter Research Paper
Finding a way to make work easier is something that humankind has consistently excelled at. From
the invention of the wheel and pulley, to the first steam engine, there are many thousands of
inventions that have been developed to make it easier to preform work. One of the most common
tasks that inventors have set out to make easier is that of lifting heavy objects and dumbwaiters are
one of the oldest lifting aids, dating back many thousands of years. A dumbwaiter is basically a
freight elevator, which is designed to move goods easily between floors. In the early days,
dumbwaiters often simply consisted of a rope that was tied to a piece of wood. Objects could be
placed on the wood and then hoisted between floors using the rope. They were ... Show more

This occurred at the hands of Elisha Otis, who was an inventor. Otis was working in construction
and used dumbwaiters to move his building supplies. He found that there were a number of serious
safety concerns when using these lifting devices, primarily that if the rope broke, the dumbwaiter
and everything it was carrying would fall to the ground. Otis set out to find a way to prevent these
types of accidents and developed a special braking system, which engaged if the rope broke. After
the completion of the construction project, Otis was set to move on with his life and travel with his
family to California in hopes of striking it rich. However, his invention had attracted the interest of a
number of construction companies who requested that Otis build them a safe lifting system. Otis
decided that he would stay in New York and would go on to build the first passenger elevator. The
development of the elevator had previously been inhibited by safety concerns, but Otis was able to
create the first safe passenger

The advent of the lightbulb and the discovery of electricity hugely affected society during the 19th
century. For example, it allowed for people to see more clearly at night and to illuminate dark
factories or industrial locations. Although it is a quite obvious reason, it is still an extremely
important benefit that could not be created as well as the light bulb for that time. Additionally, the
invention of electricity and the lightbulb in particular helped protect everyday civilians. Because of
gas–fed street lamps, fire danger was much more common than with non flammable electric light
bulbs (Top Ten). Despite fire danger still rarely occurring from light bulbs, it was much safer than
the high risk of fire gas fed lamps. Furthermore, it is clear that the invention of the light bulb and the
discovery of electricity greatly advanced technology in the 19th century and showed huge
significance. The new technological advancement would become a basis for later technological
inventions and improvements. The revolutionary patent was filed on November of 1879 and

From Luc Bonnard's perspective, Silvio had managed to setup the entity in India in a very cost
effective manner, without incurring major investments. The company had no dedicated elevator
manufacturing facilities, no elaborate logistics or distribution investments and infact office space
and furniture were also rented. Silvio had also hired some of the best local talent in key managerial
and technical positions in the country. But these measures per se will not lead to profitability and it
is recommended that for Silvio to succeed, he would have to first increase product offering in the
country, showcase latest technology though it may be expensive in the price conscious market, start
setting up a manufacturing facility and not overly depend on outsourcing every aspect right from
assembly, be updated with the latest pricing from corporate headquarters and establish tighter
communication and rapport between the local and corporate facilities of the company. Silvio formed
new management team, which seemed to have a better grasp of the local elevator market conditions,
was not comfortable with Silvio's rigidity in concentrating on standardized elevators without much
customization and seriously doubted if the company could be successful with only one low end,

A Short Statement Defining The Industrial Revolution
Introduction 1.1 & 1.2
A short Statement defining the industrial revolution
The industrial revolution occurred in Britain in the late 18th and 19th centuries, and was the
introduction of machinery.
A statement around examining the industrial revolution with a focus on the lives of children and the
impact the industrial revolution had on their lives
In the Industrial revolution children had to work alongside with their parents mostly on farms for
generations. It continued during the Revolution as children worked with their parents in factories
and mills around Britain. Children in the Industrial Revolution were only getting paid 3 pounds
which is 4.81 in Australian for a full day of work. There no restrictions on the age of workers or ...

1769 James Watt improves the steam engine.
James Watt from Scotland designs a more efficient steam engine. One of the most important
inventions of the Industrial Revolution, steam engines power the first trains, steamboats, and
factories.
1794 Eli Whitney patents the cotton gin.
Eli Whitney creates a machine that makes it much easier to separate cotton seeds from cotton fiber.
It greatly reduces the time it takes to clean cotton and helps the southern states make more money
from cotton crops.
1844 Samuel Morse invents the telegraph.
Samuel Morse invents the telegraph, which allows messages to be sent quickly over a wire. By
1860, telegraph wires stretch from the east coast of the United States west of the Mississippi River.
1846 Elias Howe invents the sewing machine.
At a time when people had to make their own clothes at home or pay someone else to sew them by
hand, Elias Howe invents the sewing machine. Now clothes can be made in large factories.
1853 Elisha Otis invents the elevator safety break.
Elevators were already invented by 1853, but people worried about elevator cars falling. Elisha Otis
invents a safety break to prevent them from falling if a cable breaks, making people feel more
confident about using elevators in tall buildings.

Naboth And God
1 Kings according to The New Oxford Annotated Bible is, "In the Christian canon, 1 and 2 Kings
belongs to the "Historical Books", and are followed by the books of Chronical, which offer an
alternative account of the period of the Monarchy." Samuel and the books of Kings are called
Basilein, Which means "reigns or dynasties". They tell the story of the Israelite and Judean
monarchy.
In the passages 1 Kings 21:1–6 Jezebel betrays herself, Naboth and God. However prior to that in 1
Kings 20 King Ben–hadad of Aram threatened King Ahab to take possession of his silver, gold,
wives and children. After messengers were sent to tell King Ahab the news, he prayed to God. The
Lord allowed him to defeat King Ben–hadad and the Arameans. The Israelites were sure to defeat
the Arameans because they devised a plan to attack them while they were comfortable and
intoxicated. "They went out at noon, while Ben–hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booth, he
and the thirty–to kings allied with him "

Naboth was a man who just wanted to be loyal to God and in result was stoned to death. Even
though King Ahab did not know what was going to happen to Naboth in detail he knew his wife

vineyard was ancestral and was meant for God's people. God throughout the scriptures has brought
justice to those who were faithful to his commands and served him.
Contemporary readers have critically written about Naboth's vineyard and addressed some amazing
revelations. One the article is by Samuel Wells in Forging Ahab: Naboth's Vineyard and God's

Selling into India: Lessons From Silvio Napoli No amount of process re–definition could have saved
Schindler the pains associated with attempting to move into India with a low–cost strategy.
Fundamental assumptions about India just wanting low–cost elevators where customization wasn't a
requirement took the effort of creating a subsidiary to learn from. For the last four years I've been
teaching an international business course occasionally for a local MBA Program. My students are all
working professionals who come to class for discussion and debate, not sermons. Case studies are
the perfect teaching tool for this audience; there is plenty of room for debate and analysis. Layer in

China is a tough sell. Silvio relayed how the lessons learned in India are useful for selling into
China; yet he says the effort required is significantly greater than getting sales in India once
Schindler began customizing its elevators. He says there are successes in China but he thinks
companies are thinking it's much more painless than it really is. Don't take the alliance between
India and China lightly. Silvio sees this development as fundamentally re–defining the region and
having global impact very quickly. An excellent analysis of the strategic impact of this relationship
has been written by Jairam Ramesh, a member of the Indian parliament, in the April 18th edition of
the Wall Street Journal. The article is here, and you'll need Wall Street Journal online access to
retrieve it. You can find Jairam's Web site here. There's another very good article on this alliance
written by Paul McDougall of Information Week here. Bottom line: No amount of process re–
definition could have saved Schindler the pains associated with attempting to move into India with a
low–cost strategy. Fundamental assumptions about India just wanting low–cost elevators where
customization wasn't a requirement took the effort of creating a subsidiary to learn from. One of my

The, R & B And Jazz Singers
"Rage to Survive, The Etta James Story" as told by Etta James, and written by David Ritz, is a
biographical telling of the history of the soul singer who, through a series of crashes and comebacks,
became one of the most famous blues, R&B and jazz singers in history. Born in Los Angeles,
California, Etta James, or as a young child known as Jamesetta Hawkins, was born January 25th,
1938 to Ms. Dorothy Hawkins who was just fourteen, and an absent father. This is a solidified fact,
the place and date of birth and the woman Jamesetta was born to. However, this is the only question
that could be answered about her life with certainty. It would take a lot of writing to try and explain

When Mama passed away during Jamesetta's preteen years, her whole world completely flipped,
and she lost touch with the safe lifestyle Mama had built for her. Being some what of a local
celebrity, singers who would come to L.A. began to enter her life, and in a nut shell, she grew up
much quicker than her time. Dorothy, still coming in and out of her life, stopped causing her fear,
but curiosity. The more notice Jamesetta got for her voice, and the more people from the industry
that involved themselves in her life, the more curious she got for this lifestyle that Dorothy had,
which was wildly similar to that of those in the industry. "...she lead this mysterious nightlife that, to
me, seemed fearless–going out to dangerous places with dangerous people. Dangers and fears and
excitement all ran together in my mind" (p.14). She suddenly would want to stay with her mother on
her wild nights, and do things like her and observe the behavior. She tried to please her mother in
that way, though she never could. Her mother never bat an eyelash in her direction. She dropped out
of school and started to hit the road with other singers, playing small town gigs, getting her name
out there. At fifteen, she met Johnny Otis, who took her in, "discovered her" and started to put her
name in lights. But with a name like Jamesetta, you picture a young girl with chubby cheeks, which
is really what she still was. But the pressure to shed that exterior was high, and it was when

Changing Perspectives Of My Life
Changing Perspectives As I took my first step outside the door the warm midnight air greeted me
like an old friend. It was a pleasant contrast to the cold stagnant air on the plane. We had just flown
16 hours with only one layover and my legs had become achy and my neck stiff. "hold on tight to
your bags!" Bro. Powers, our youth leader, called out as we walked across the tarmac to go inside.
Apparently all of the eager gentlemen attempting to take our bags for us were not doing so out of the
kindness of their heart. It was common for men to forcefully offer to "help" you take your bags to
your car and then insist on a tip. All but one of our group heeded the warning and held on to their
bags. One crafty little man managed to pry a bag ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My life changed so much for the better after that night. In a life full of bad decisions, it only took
one good decision to turn it all around. It's kind of funny to think about looking back on it all. That
one single moment changed everything. A year later I found myself presented with the unique
opportunity to join a youth group going over to work at an orphanage in Africa. The evangelist who
preached the service when I got saved had started a mission in Africa some years ago preaching the
gospel and bringing food and other supplies where needed. Over the years that mission had
expanded to building an orphanage and starting churches in remote areas and even starting a Bible
school to teach them about God and to be preachers in their own villages. Our hotel was located
Moshi, a small but somewhat thriving city near the Kilimanjaro National Park. Despite being dry
and very dusty there were cafes and restaurants and even a few electronics stores. Not exactly what I
was expecting I'll admit. We might have the misconception that all of Africa is uncivilized and
everyone lives in huts and wears rags for clothes and while this might be true for some areas it
certainly is not true for most. The streets were littered with vendors selling anything from shoes to
art made with banana leaves and business men catching the bus to work. After an early breakfast at
the hotel we piled into our van

Founding Fathers Accomplishments
The American Revolution, a war fought by the colonists in the hopes of attaining freedom,
recognition, and independence. The Founding Fathers did all they could to ensure these goals were
accomplished and the fruits of their labor were enjoyed by everyone. George Mason wrote the
Declaration of Rights, Thomas Jefferson was "The Father of the Declaration of Independence",
James Madison was "The Father of the Constitution", Benjamin Franklin contributed to nearly all of
the early documents, and George Washington, "The Father of Our Country, commanded the
American troops during the American Revolution. The (incomplete) list of accomplishments of the
Founding Fathers are incredible, and they definitely deserve the abundant, almost excessive,
amounts of praise they receive to this day. With the constant talk about The Founding Fathers, it
easy to overlook and/or undermine other key figures who also bravely stood up for the country and
contributed to the founding of this nation. However, a few do raise the important question, "What
about The Founding Mothers?". The truth is there were countless women advocating for the same
rights and values their male counterparts were. Unfortunately, just as generations before and after
the American Revolution have done, many seem to 'forget' the ever–so–important achievements of
the talented women. The vital roles women played in society ranged from caring for the children and
the home to the managing the local businesses while the men were

Gender, Cultural, And Religious Context
"Art is a product of its time. It is a result of the social, political, and religious context in which it was

time period, and the gender of the artist because those individualities have a major influence on the
depiction of the women in art. For example, gender is a cultural classification, hence, various artists
might have portrayed the identity of the female in a different way. Moreover, gender roles are a set

For example, Figure 1 depicts a sculpture entitled: Bhudevi. It was created during the Chola Period
in Southern India, specifically in Tamil Nadu in the late 11th–early 12th centuries Bronze. In India,
Bhudevi is considered to be the Goddess of Mother Earth and one of the wives of the Hindu god
Vishnu. One conspicuous attribute is her body figure, which seems to be the epitome of female
image in India during that time period. She has a small nose and chin, fat deposition in the cheek
area (round face), fuller hips and large breasts, which are considered to be signs of fertility. As a
matter of fact, she is the "Fertility–form in which she is the Mother Earth" ("About Bhudevi"). She
has a ring on the pointer finger of her left hand, which can be symbolized as the Earth that is
rotating. Her graceful gestures, such as having one of her hands faced down, depict the feminine
nature of women, while having the other one pointed diagonally to lead to her husband, Vishnu. This
gesture implies that Vishnu is her husband and that he holds a position of power. The way she is
posed portrays her femininity because she is positioned in a way so that her curves are enhanced.
She is also depicted naked, which according to some Hindus, the erotic nature portrays Kama–one
of their goals in human life. Furthermore, Bhudevi

Aretha Franklin Analysis
Aretha Franklin – Respect
This song written and originally released artist Otis Redding in 1965. It wasn't until 1967 that this
song became a hit when R&B Aretha Franklin sang it. The song itself has the perfect features of a
pop song and more importantly is was a song that was perfect for a political movement theme. One
of the most important messages that is being delivered is that a black and strong woman was seeking
respect: "All I'm askin' Is for a little respect when you get home (just a little bit)". Additionally,
Aretha Franklin was showing her power towards men: "What you want, Baby, I got it".
The initial intent of the lyrics showed a bad dynamic between a relationship, but Aretha Franklin
tweak and the emphasis on the word RESPECT sang by the chorus led for the initiation and was an
inspiration for the feminist movement.

A Short Story : A Story Of Miriam's Story
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Miriam thought of her loving mother, who never hurt anyone. She tried only to help. Even those
who wronged her. Like the woman in the village who said her mother gave her the wrong remedy
for a stomachache. Said she retched all day.
Mother was never wrong with her remedies. But she took the criticism without lashing back. The
woman never spoke to her again. And others were afraid to ask for an herb for what ailed them.
"How could Mother be so patient and loving?" Miriam leaned her head against the trunk of the tree
and closed her eyes. A tear trailed down.
"Mama, what would you do if you were me? Help this man who destroyed our family?"
Never repay evil for evil . . . only good, Miriam. She could hear her mother saying these exact
words.
"I'm trying, Mama. Really I am! But it's just so hard."
Miriam fell fast asleep. She dreamed of her family, her village, and strangely, of the prophet Elisha
who lived with a widow and her son in town. Miriam watched as the son was raised from the dead,
and witnessed the joy in the widow's face when he took a life giving breath. "Miriam. Miriam!"
A voice pierced her dream. She awoke with a start and looked up into the face of Jason.
"We've been looking for you, Miriam. The mistress was worried about you. Come. Come back to the
house." Miriam was reluctant, but obeyed.

Pros And Cons Of Graphic Design
If you or someone close to you have ever had any interest in the graphic design field, you have
probably faced the dilemma yourself or have seen them agonize over the decision to go to college.
Graphic design is a fairly new field, but especially in the past decade the career field has gained
momentum with the increasing improvements with technology and the need for logo branding,
advertisements, and web or app platform aesthetics. Some prefer to call the degree Mass
Communications or Digital Media because of the relation with Graphic Design as designing
physical media such as magazines, while more and more of our modern media is consumed
digitally. The major is usually a new program or class and becoming a very common major, however
many famous graphic designers, such as Alexey Brodovitch or Karen X. Cheng, decided not to
attend or finish college because their portfolio was impressive and they simply did not need to, or
because of the cost. While a degree in Graphic Design is an art degree that can almost guarantee you
some type of job, it is still an art degree. With inflation and tuition costs through the sky, 50K a
semester for an art degree does not seem like highway robbery, it absolutely can be.
So let's look at the pros for attending college for graphic design. If you or that friend or acquaintance
you know is like me, then you know the stress of making a portfolio. For those who do not know
what a portfolio quite is, it is basically the art equivalent of a resume.

Revolution played a significant part of America winning its independence. Many men were needed
to fight in the war. This meant that mothers and wives were left home with little communication.
The women left behind had to take over the responsibilities that men had previously held. Without
men home, women were more vulnerable against troops. However, many women were not, in fact,
powerless against pillaging troops. Several women joined an organization called the Daughters of
Liberty. This informal group had a direct impact on the Revolution. The Daughters of Liberty helped
decrease dependence on British–made goods, as well as helped increasing patriotism. They
encouraged other women to make homemade supplies for soldiers and families. Instead of wearing
clothing and using goods imported from Britain, patriot women made and used their own supplies.
They also helped to organize boycotts of British goods. Furthermore, women helped the patriots by
supporting organizations like the Ladies Association in Philadelphia. This group of women collected
funds which were given to Martha Washington to give to her husband George Washington, who was
an American general at the time. Other various organizations

Silvio Napoli At Schindler India

  • 1. Silvio Napoli at Schindler India Questions: „X Evaluate the logic of Silvio Napoli 's strategy for selling standardized elevators in India. „X What should Silvio do about the order for non–standard elevators? To understand Silvio Napoli 's strategy for selling standardized elevators in India, let us first take a look at the Indian markets using the CAGE framework: Culture Economic – Sensitivity of Indian employees to organizational power and relationships – Different management styles of Indian managers ¡V "friendly and easygoing" – Huge curve to adjust to Indian living conditions ¡V housing, school, doctors, grocery shopping, etc. – Mostly untrustworthy middle–men offering all kinds of services – Difficult to find office space – Inability of the market to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support this, the logistics, manufacturing and basic installation of the elevators was to be all done in India. But, this meant that the original Swiss policies and procedures used at Schindler 's operations in Europe would need to be transferred over to their manufacturing in India. Based on his research of the Indian market and its culture, Silvio was aware that it would not be an easy task for their Indian manufacturing to learn and incorporate the procedures. So, Silvio decided to minimize the learning curve burden for their manufacturing operations by picking only two elevator configurations that Schindler India would build: ¡V Model S001 for low–rise buildings ¡V completely outsourced to local suppliers ¡V Model S003P for medium–rise buildings ¡V imported He also decided that these elevators would be standardized and no customization would be allowed for the Indian market. This was to keep complexity and costs low and to make Schindler an efficient manufacturing operation. However, there were several problems with this strategy: ¡V Schindler 's corporate structure and management practices were misaligned to the Indian subsidiary 's objectives ¡V The generic offerings S001 and S003P had thin profit margins and they did not fit well within the business plan of offering customized sales and service ¡V Schindler would be

  • 4. The Devil In The White City Analysis The Columbian World's Exposition of 1893 marked an important time in American history. The overall fame of the World's Columbian Exposition, or also known as the Chicago World's Fair, is in large part due to the spread of ideas and inventions that originated at the fair itself. The novel, The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, depicts a clear portrait of the fair's impact in the time leading up to, during, and after the exposition. The fair established itself as a metaphorical historical monument, in the way that it honored the past and served as a memorial to Columbus, and the way that it impacted future societies and events. The fair began as a show of superiority on part of American society, over all other countries, like France or England. Regarding competition, the fair sought to "Out–Eiffel" Gustave Eiffel, architect of the Eiffel Tower, for architecture, and to outclass the rest of the world in all other fields. The fair also served to foreshadow the growing powers of America both intellectually and militarily; the spirit and ideas shown at the fair showed the emergence of intellectual superiority that would only serve as a sample of the achievements of society that were yet to come. The intellectual productions of the fair can be attributed to the architectural firm coordinating the event, Burnham and Root. The firm was headed by Daniel Burnham and John Root, both accredited as the brightest in their field. Under their management, the Chicago World's Fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on 1 Kings 1 Kings Introduction In 1 Kings 18–19 we are introduced to one of the most magical men in the Bible, and to one of the greatest miracles. Along with Moses and Jesus, Elijah is among the great miracle workers of the world. Elijah used miracles to bring Israel up out of shambles, if just for a moment. He also showed extreme faith and perseverance in the face of great odds. But the true character of Elijah lies in his name, which literally means, "Yahweh is my God (Anderson 246)." Prelude to The Contest In order to understand chapters 18 and 19 of 1 Kings, one must get some background on its main character. In 1 Kings 17, we are first introduced to Elijah. At the time, Israel is at one of its lowest points. King Ahab and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elijah tells Obadiah to go to Ahab and tell him that he wants to meet with him. When the meeting occurs, Ahab refers to Elijah as "the troubler of Israel (1 Kings 18:17)." Elijah responds by saying that Israel has brought the trouble upon themselves by worshiping Baal. This is the first statement of the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his people and the "prophets of Baal" at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19). It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament. One man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of faith. He declares that the worshipers of Baal will cut a bull into pieces and set it upon the altar of Baal. As the lone representative of Yahweh, Elijah will then cut up a bull and set it upon the altar of Yahweh. The prophets are then to call upon Baal to strike the altar with fire. Elijah will then call upon Yahweh to strike his altar with fire. The true god could then be determined. The prophets do as instructed and call upon Baal to ignite their altar. They call out and dance, but nothing happened. All the while Elijah is taunting them, asking them why Baal is not responding. The failure of Baal to react is made even more dramatic when one recognizes the fact that Baal is the supposed god of weather, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erwc, Period 2 . 12 February Shawn Love Mrs. Echols ERWC, Period 2 12 February 2017 The Advancements in Architecture "The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built" (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries, architecture has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the political and economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can still idolize ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that time influenced them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong today, they had few materials to work with and they weren't as strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previously, metals weren't in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant that buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone, and concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also changed architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons, and by 1900, it rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel, which was not only stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength greater than any other material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to design much taller buildings with a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that prevented architects from doing so. "To cement a new friendship, especially between foreigners or persons of a different social world, a spark with which both were secretly charged must fly from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place and time" (Elisha Graves Otis). Elevators have been known to exist since the Roman era. They were created with a basic pulley system that were operated by either humans, animals, or water power. For example, Rome's Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the gladiators and wild animals from one stage floor to the next. In England, elevators were powered by a steam machine or a hydraulic pump and were used to bring up the monarch's food more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Declaration Of Independence As Said By Thomas Jefferson The Declaration of Independence as said by Thomas Jefferson is "an expression of the American Mind". Jefferson along with John Locke and other English constitutionalist theorists detailed the abuses by George III, brilliantly summarizing the views of the colonist who were seeking distance from England. Many of these grievances were politically shaped, others dealt with the American economy. The first one states "For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world". Instead of allowing the colonist free commercial trade with other nations, the home government did all in its power to restrict them to trade exclusively with Great Britain. Favorable and profitable trade with the Spanish and French was destroyed. The mother land was ruining America's web they built for trading. Another major grievance was "For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent", believing that Great Britain had an unquestionable right to tax its colonies on all foreign goods imported by the Americans. This is when the term "no taxation without representation" was born. The next is "For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever." This grievance dealt with the fact that British policy stated with absolute clarity that in belief the British government could simply do as it pleased with the American people almost as if that people were its slaves. • 14. Argumentative Essay On Gun Violence Many believe that as the year progresses, our lives become more dangerous for us to be a part of. However, Zachary Crockett states that the beginning is bad, and "In the first 24 hours of the new year, 264 separate incidents of gun violence happened across the United States" (Crockett 1). He is helping us to illustrate we struggle throughout the entire year, and we get attacked at the times which we least expect them to happen. In the infographic that is being shown, Chicago was reported to have "24 shootings, leaving 3 dead and 28 injured", leading us to the idea that some towns are at more risk than others (Crockett 1). He is leading us to believe that some cities, like Chicago, face a better likliness of shootings occurring, then in some other cities. There needs to be a better handle of guns in this area, and take caution so that many do not get hurt. When trying to depict other important details, Crockett helps explain that "every day, and average of 112 people are killed or injured by gun violence in America" (Crockett 1). There needs to be a tighter grip on not only the actions of the people in the country, but the weapon. Guns cause a lot of stress and havoc across the country, and if we could allow ourselves to overcome this, then we would be helping ourselves out. Zachary Crockett has written for many magazines, websites, etc. and they all enjoy the work that he does for them. He has a lot of experience in his field, especially crime and politics, so when discusses gun violence, he has plenty of knowledge. He has been cited by the White House, so he has the backing of the president with him. Likewise, he also has co–authored two bestselling books, which allows him to be recognized as a very unique, but reliable source. The information that comes from him are truthful facts that are detailed descriptions from real life occurrences in our society. When someone is incorporating real life examples into their articles, they place themselves higher on the minds of others on credibility. The Vox uses their own material, and allows for their information to be unique. • 20. Male Congregant Case By way of brief summary, the case study I make reference to here concerns an incident that occurred while serving as a pastoral intern several months ago. I was asked by a friend and congregant to provide a ride home to a male congregant. This request stood at odds with my pastoral covenant and thus had to be refused. This mismatch of expectations and presumed lack of awareness on the part of the requesting congregant led to a somewhat awkward situation, which, after being resolved, was followed with a brief word of explanation to my friend. To maintain anonymity, throughout this paper I will use the designators "BC" to refer to my friend and "FL" to refer to the male congregant. I am reminded of a non–denominational mega church in Chicago that is comprised of the upper class of people and all kinds of modern facilities that to me personally gave an impression of snobbery and a non–church experience. It seemed it was a public event that was for the sake of fun. This further implicates the opinion that a church experience does not mean one is having "fun," but worshipping God with one's heart and mind that needs to be fully involved. A worship experience must be a true experience of interacting with God and being in the presence of God, which at the same time, does not mean that churches should discontinue acts of hospitality and pastoral love. Last year, at a denominational church, I came to experience a service that was most unfriendly, unwelcoming, and questioned if that church offered a concert or an experience of worshipping God. Israel Galindo delineates the concept of church programs as reflective of who they are, or what is the "feel" that they receive at a certain church. He also mentions "assessing the pastor's relationship with the church." This has implications for church culture within churches and the relationship between the clergy ... Mercy was the sister of James Otis, a leader of the Revolution. She wrote several satirical plays and corresponded with many prominent figures in colonial society, including Samuel Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Elbridge Gerry and Alexander Hamilton. She maintained an especially close contact with Jordan and Abigail Adams. She structured her political comments within plays, none of which she preformed on stage because Mercy has specifically written them for publication in the newspapers. Through her plays Mercy revealed her contempt for the Tory Administration in Boston and her passion for Whig ideology. "Mercy believed that a women's primary focus should be her family, but asserted that it was important for women to be aware of politics in order to better serve their families." (Volo, 2003) Warren was among the women who chose to publish their views. Women were active ad printers and publishers during the war. Women who feared criticism for meddling too directly in politics published their poems and letters into the newspaper anonymously. In 1772, Warren published anonymously her "biting satire of Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson, The Adulator. • 26. My Personal Experience : My Experience In The Middle School In middle school, I was a weird, chunky kid. Not that being chunky is weird, I just looked like a little bowling ball with really frizzy hair. Having never really been good at sports, I was never really cool, and neither were my friends. It wasn't until I saw my friend drawing, that I decided to give it a shot. I knew I wasn't very good when I started but I didn't really care. Wanting to get better, so I practiced more and more. At this time I was only in second grade, so I was just grateful that I found something I enjoyed. Going to a Catholic middle school was really important to my development as a person. I don't really have an opinion on the religious part, but the kids there were completely different from me. In 6th grade, I really started to delve deeper into art. From constantly doodling in the margins of my notebook, to drawing at home, I learned that creating was something that I desired more time for. I never really got that feeling of excitement while at my middle school school. Even then, I knew I wanted to be in a place surrounded by other artists, a place where I could get inspired, and be able to create every day, not just before bed. I learned about a magnet school near me, and the thought of it excited me. In preparation to getting into the high school I dreamed of going to, I attended classes outside of my school for about a year. There, I received discipline in art, to prepare for creating a portfolio. Thankfully, I ended up getting accepted. Going to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People were able to transport faster and more easily, but so could ideas. Around the world new ideas were being shared which created a competitive environment on who could come up with what first. These changes were the causes that generated the industrial revolution. The Bessemer process made steel framed buildings more popular and allowed buildings to rise as high as nine or ten stories. George A. Otis set out to find a way to prevent these types of accidents and developed a special braking system, which engaged if the rope broke. After the completion of the construction project, Otis was set to move on with his life and travel with his family to California in hopes of striking it rich. However, his invention had attracted the interest of a number of construction companies who requested that Otis build them a safe lifting system. In a life full of bad decisions, it only took one good decision to turn it all around. It's kind of funny to think about looking back on it all. That one single moment changed everything. A year later I found myself presented with the unique opportunity to join a youth group going over to work at an orphanage in Africa. The evangelist who preached the service when I got saved had started a mission in Africa some years ago preaching the gospel and bringing food and other supplies where needed. Over the years that mission had expanded to building an orphanage and starting churches in remote areas and even starting a Bible school to teach them about God and to be preachers in their own villages. Our hotel was located Moshi, a small but somewhat thriving city near the Kilimanjaro National Park. Despite being dry and very dusty there were cafes and restaurants and even a few electronics stores. Not exactly what I was expecting I'll admit. We might have the misconception that all of Africa is uncivilized and everyone lives in huts and wears rags for clothes and while this might be true for some areas it certainly is not true for most. The streets were littered with vendors selling anything from shoes to art made with banana leaves and business men catching the bus to work. After an early breakfast at the hotel we piled into our van ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Founding Fathers Accomplishments The American Revolution, a war fought by the colonists in the hopes of attaining freedom, recognition, and independence. The Founding Fathers did all they could to ensure these goals were accomplished and the fruits of their labor were enjoyed by everyone. George Mason wrote the Declaration of Rights, Thomas Jefferson was "The Father of the Declaration of Independence", James Madison was "The Father of the Constitution", Benjamin Franklin contributed to nearly all of the early documents, and George Washington, "The Father of Our Country, commanded the American troops during the American Revolution. The (incomplete) list of accomplishments of the Founding Fathers are incredible, and they definitely deserve the abundant, almost excessive, amounts of praise they receive to this day. With the constant talk about The Founding Fathers, it easy to overlook and/or undermine other key figures who also bravely stood up for the country and contributed to the founding of this nation. However, a few do raise the important question, "What about The Founding Mothers?". The truth is there were countless women advocating for the same rights and values their male counterparts were. Unfortunately, just as generations before and after the American Revolution have done, many seem to 'forget' the ever–so–important achievements of the talented women. The vital roles women played in society ranged from caring for the children and the home to the managing the local businesses while the men were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Safety Hoist Elisha Otis was born on August 3, 1811 Halifax, Vermont. He died on April 8, 1861, but not without changing the world as we knew it. The Safety Hoist, that is how he changed the world. The elevator had been around for a while, but many people did not like to use it, especially construction crews, as it was unstable and often fell and broke. Otis made the "safety hoist; the first elevator equipped with an automatic safety device to prevent it from falling if the lifting chain or rope broke. Elisha Otis and his inventions greatly impacted our way of life. Now it's hard to think of a building without an elevator, one that is safe and will not come crashing down. Elevators are everywhere, schools, banks, and some people even have them in their houses. • 63. Gender, Cultural, And Religious Context "Art is a product of its time. It is a result of the social, political, and religious context in which it was made" (Cruz). For the aforementioned reason, it is imperative to take into consideration the culture, time period, and the gender of the artist because those individualities have a major influence on the depiction of the women in art. For example, gender is a cultural classification, hence, various artists might have portrayed the identity of the female in a different way. Moreover, gender roles are a set of stringent behaviors and expectations set by the society based on the biological sex of a person. For example, Figure 1 depicts a sculpture entitled: Bhudevi. It was created during the Chola Period in Southern India, specifically in Tamil Nadu in the late 11th–early 12th centuries Bronze. In India, Bhudevi is considered to be the Goddess of Mother Earth and one of the wives of the Hindu god Vishnu. One conspicuous attribute is her body figure, which seems to be the epitome of female image in India during that time period. She has a small nose and chin, fat deposition in the cheek area (round face), fuller hips and large breasts, which are considered to be signs of fertility. As a matter of fact, she is the "Fertility–form in which she is the Mother Earth" ("About Bhudevi"). She has a ring on the pointer finger of her left hand, which can be symbolized as the Earth that is rotating. Her graceful gestures, such as having one of her hands faced down, depict the feminine nature of women, while having the other one pointed diagonally to lead to her husband, Vishnu. This gesture implies that Vishnu is her husband and that he holds a position of power. The way she is posed portrays her femininity because she is positioned in a way so that her curves are enhanced. She is also depicted naked, which according to some Hindus, the erotic nature portrays Kama–one of their goals in human life. Furthermore, Bhudevi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The song itself has the perfect features of a pop song and more importantly is was a song that was perfect for a political movement theme. • 75. A Short Story : A Story Of Miriam's Story CHAPTER FIFTEEN Miriam thought of her loving mother, who never hurt anyone. She tried only to help. Even those who wronged her. Like the woman in the village who said her mother gave her the wrong remedy for a stomachache. Said she retched all day. Mother was never wrong with her remedies. But she took the criticism without lashing back. The woman never spoke to her again. And others were afraid to ask for an herb for what ailed them. "How could Mother be so patient and loving?" Miriam leaned her head against the trunk of the tree and closed her eyes. A tear trailed down. "Mama, what would you do if you were me? Help this man who destroyed our family?" Never repay evil for evil . . . only good, Miriam. She could hear her mother saying these exact words. "I'm trying, Mama. Really I am! But it's just so hard." Miriam fell fast asleep. She dreamed of her family, her village, and strangely, of the prophet Elisha who lived with a widow and her son in town. Miriam watched as the son was raised from the dead, and witnessed the joy in the widow's face when he took a life giving breath. "Miriam. Miriam!" A voice pierced her dream. She awoke with a start and looked up into the face of Jason. "We've been looking for you, Miriam. The mistress was worried about you. Come. Come back to the house." Miriam was reluctant, but obeyed. "My dear, are you okay?" The mistress beckoned her towards the cushion on the ground where she was seated. "Sit, Miriam." Still drowsy from her nap under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Graphic design is a fairly new field, but especially in the past decade the career field has gained momentum with the increasing improvements with technology and the need for logo branding, advertisements, and web or app platform aesthetics. Some prefer to call the degree Mass Communications or Digital Media because of the relation with Graphic Design as designing physical media such as magazines, while more and more of our modern media is consumed digitally. The major is usually a new program or class and becoming a very common major, however many famous graphic designers, such as Alexey Brodovitch or Karen X. Cheng, decided not to attend or finish college because their portfolio was impressive and they simply did not need to, or because of the cost. While a degree in Graphic Design is an art degree that can almost guarantee you some type of job, it is still an art degree. With inflation and tuition costs through the sky, 50K a semester for an art degree does not seem like highway robbery, it absolutely can be. So let's look at the pros for attending college for graphic design. If you or that friend or acquaintance you know is like me, then you know the stress of making a portfolio. • 79. Women's Role Of Women In The American Revolution Throughout history, a woman's purpose has mainly been to raise children and manage the household. Although after the Revolution, this role remained mostly the same, during the time of social injustice, women showed their bravery and patriotism. A woman's role in the American Revolution played a significant part of America winning its independence. Many men were needed to fight in the war. This meant that mothers and wives were left home with little communication. The women left behind had to take over the responsibilities that men had previously held. Without men home, women were more vulnerable against troops. However, many women were not, in fact, powerless against pillaging troops. Several women joined an organization called the Daughters of Liberty. This informal group had a direct impact on the Revolution. The Daughters of Liberty helped decrease dependence on British–made goods, as well as helped increasing patriotism. They encouraged other women to make homemade supplies for soldiers and families. Instead of wearing clothing and using goods imported from Britain, patriot women made and used their own supplies. They also helped to organize boycotts of British goods. Furthermore, women helped the patriots by supporting organizations like the Ladies Association in Philadelphia. This group of women collected funds which were given to Martha Washington to give to her husband George Washington, who was an American general at the time. Other various organizations ...
