Using Material from Item a and Elsewhere, Asses the View...
Using material from item A and elsewhere assess the view that social class differences in
educational achievement are the result of school processes such as labelling.
Social class is typically known as social grouping or hierarchy based on differences in wealth,
income or occupation. In the UK there are mainly two social classes; working class and middle
class.
33% of students who are currently on free school meals achieve 5A* C at GCSE, however 61% of
students who are not on free school meals also achieve 5A* C grades. 90% of the failing school are

such school processes to take place (Item A) Gilbourn and Youdell shows how teachers notions of
ability conclude to their decisions of which pupils have the potential to achieve 5A* C grade gcse
s. Neil Keddie then argues that the more intelligent students get taught more complex and advanced
information and methods while the students in the lower sets are not recognised and being left
behind. However Rosenthal and Jacobson performed an experiment where they picked random
students from the class who were also working class and told teachers they are able to improve, this
later resulted in teachers spending more time with these selected students which made them
improve and achieve better. Therefore showing that self fulfilling prophecy can have an effect in
education underachievement. To conclude sub cultures, labelling, streaming and self fulfilling
prophecy can effect education underachievement, due to social class, gender and race.
Being labelled tends to be based on your social class, where you will be labelled between smart and

Why Did Johnstown Happen
The Johnstown Flood was a catastrophe that occurred in Western Pennsylvania on May 13st of
1889. The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to
support heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded.
Unfortunately, a short fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was
a prosperous yet modest western Pennsylvaniatown. The town had an iron company called Cambria
Iron Company, which employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time,
had a few phones, three local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self
sufficient.
Interestingly enough, fourteen miles up the valley, South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, was set in
the mountains and was a popular summer destination for the wealthy of Pittsburgh. At the time,
Pittsburgh was ages ahead of the little town of Johnstown comparatively. The wealthy, including
Andrew Carnegie, even had a home at the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, which was ideal

Streams formed that had never been there before, and rivers in the surrounding area rose more
than a foot per hour. Johnstown had water in its streets, which was nothing new to them, but this
time it was different. There was an air of fear around them. Surrounding railroad tracks were
washed out throughout the day as the storm progressed. Eventually, nothing could move east or
west, and all trains were stopped. Overnight, people at the club upriver noticed that the lake rose
two feet over night. The spillway definitely couldn t handle more water. Debris accumulated
around the innovative fish screens that were put in place to make fishing easy and leisurely for
the wealthy. The damns engineer left at 11:30 in hops of getting a message to Johnstown. In
addition, a crew gathered in an effort to free spillway and raise the top of the

Influence Of The Modern Sports Industry
Different societies have different standards dictating how people should dress, eat, and how their
bodies should look. Recently, in developed countries, societies promote enhancement supplements
and medications in their standards for what its members should aspire to use. Because of this, men
face increasingly more pressure to take these products so they can comply with social norms. The
modern sports industry shows this increasing trend in male consumption of supplements. In 2013,
45% of collegiate male athletes in a study reported using some sort of nutritional supplement during
their training (Darvishi). This supports the idea that in modern American advertisements, advisors

The advertisers intentionally include a bland background so viewers focus on the only other
figure present in the photograph: a lone man wearing gym clothes. The advertisement does not
show the man s face, but does display his physique clearly. The man is large and muscular, and
he appears to flex his muscles to show their outlines clearly. The absence of the man s face in the
image shows how the advertisers portray the man s physique as the primary focus of the image by
stripping the man of a unique identity, therefore mystifying him. By making his identity irrelevant,
the advertisement seeks to present the man as the standard for physical perfection that all men
should seek to achieve. The words used in the advertisement also aim to present the man as a
dominant figure. The advertisers intend for two words to stand out. They bold, underline, and
completely capitalize the words BOSS IT in the upper right hand dominant corner of the
advertisement. By telling men to boss their workout, the advertisers appeal to the traditional image
of the dominant male figure. The advertisement tells men to Walk in. Tear it up. Walk away. These
words further imply that men should dominate their work out, however, by also telling them to
simply walk away, the advertisers imply that the supplement will allow men to tear up their
workout in a casual and effortless manner. This will allow men to walk away in the same way the
man shown in the advertisement walks away, without even

The Royal Perogative Essay
The royal prerogative is a source of constitutional law, it derives from common law powers that have
from the monarchy to the executive. The significance in constitutional law of the prerogative is that
it provides the executive with considerable power to act without following normal parliamentary
procedures. As Dicey explained, the prerogative is every act which the executive government can
lawfully do without the authority of an Act of parliament.
In constitution terms it is therefore important to explore the means by which the UK constitution
secures the accountability for the exercise of prerogative powers by the executives.
Prerogative powers are those exercisable by the crown without statutory authority. Although

The bill of rights of (1688) can be seen as the historical origin of the supremacy of parliament and
since that point, many of the prerogative powers have been abolished or superseded by the state.
Prerogative powers, then can be described as the residual powers of the state that are not governed
by the legislation and do not require authorisation by parliament.
These include important matters of governance; the disposition of the armed forces; regulation of
the armed forces: the grant of honours; diplomatic relations and making of treaties; the appointment
of the minister and the dissolution of parliament.
The queen retains the personal power to grant certain honours, to assent the Bills passed by
parliament, to appoint the prime minister, and to dissolve parliament. The powers that fall within its
scope are often of crucial importance to government, and it is perhaps peculiar that the limitations
and controls upon the prerogative have not yet been formalised.
Modern prerogative powers may be defined as the legal powers inherent in Government, which do
not require the approval of Parliament for their exercise. It is traditionally been difficult to identify
and assess the extent of prerogative powers within no codified list of those that exist. In October
2009 the Government published a review of

Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own
A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own,
written by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in
England, and by Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a
work. Woolf s commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the
struggles of women in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by
men, but also the general inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation,
though relevant and groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its
persuasiveness and power in a modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction.
Due to an ever changing civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is
thus deemed irrelevant, a word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to
write the essay A Room of One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the
main topic would be. Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what
they are like (...) the fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1).
She does this by employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the
topics, while within daily situations. The entirety of the essay during the time of its writingand
publication served the purpose of sparking

Love, Care, And Treat People With Respect From A Very...
I was taught to love, care, and treat people with respect from a very young age. When I was a
young girl, my mom would take me with her to work. At the time, she worked at an assisted
living center in Rome, Georgia. You see, I was a very quiet and curious child who observed the
world innocently with bright, untainted eyes. I didn t care much to be around the other
children who were usually loud and somewhat bothersome, but I enjoyed being around adults.
So when my mom would take me with her, the elderly people living there found much joy in
having my company. I would sit and listen to them tell me all sorts of stories from their past for
hours on end, but I loved to hear about them. In a way, I somehow understood that these people
were lonely and only had so much time left. They just wanted someone who could appreciate
them and what they had to say; they wanted to feel like they were of some importance and had a
sense of meaning. I cared greatly about what they had to say, even though I didn t understand it
that much. More importantly, I cared about their feelings and wellbeing. I can still remember at
least two of my mom s patients. One was a man named Lou, and I believe he wore a prosthetic
leg. He was a very sweet and dear old man who loved the outdoors. My mom would bring him
outside in the mornings to watch the birds and to get some fresh, crisp, morning air. He had
become a great friend to the both of us, a bit like a father and

Animals And Slavery In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Most people never really think about the fact that animals are actually slaves. People are not the
only ones who are known for being slaves. Animals are controlled and manipulated into doing
things against their will the same way slaves were while under the rule of the American colonists
before, during, and after the American Revolution. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell,
the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves and
controlled by a tyrant leader, like those of the American Revolution. The animals were treated like
the slaves of the American Revolution. Before the animals in the book revolted, they believed that
the life of an animal was normal. They did not understand that what was happening to them was a
form of slavery. The slaves knew that their lives were only going to amount of slavery, because
they understood that they were born into it and nothing was going to get them out of it except
for death. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth (Orwell 5). The
animals, like the slaves, knew not to expect anything different than slavery because they knew
they were born into it. Being slaves, they knew that they would only receive the bare minimum.
African American slaves were only given enough food so they could still work. We are born, we
are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies (Orwell 5). The animals, like the
slaves, were only given enough to make sure they could

Sports In Sports
Introduction
The primary object of sports is, of course, exercise, but sports have a far greater impact on the
wellbeing of many besides physical health. Introducing new opportunities for youth, sports create
unbreakable bonds, build athletes characters, unite communities, and promote teamwork.
Undoubtedly, sports can positively impact many children of all ages. As children grow older and
become more athletic, parents and athletes may consider specializing in one sport to maximize the
athlete s chance of earning a scholarship for college; furthermore, almost every youth athlete,
myself included, dreams of becoming a professional athlete one day, so they will do anything to
achieve that goal. On the contrary, specializing in one sport may have the opposite effect.
Depriving themselves from diverse environments, specialized athletes are excluded from valuable
lessons that are beneficial for sports and life. Specializing in one sport today is not merely
playing one season of a sport, but specialization is intensely concentrating on one sport year round.
For this reason, athletes should play multiple sports because focusing on one sport all year does
not produce the same benefits as playing multiple sports throughout the year. Most athletes,
including myself, would probably agree that they love more than one sport, and if this is the case,
then athletes should participate in every sport they love. After all, the purpose of sports is not to
earn money or to become famous but to

Fellowship Of The Ring Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Fellowship of the Ring Book/Movie Comparison Written by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship
of the Ring was released in 1954; it is the first book in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The plot
centers around a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who must embark on a treacherous journey to
destroy the One Ring. He is accompanied by Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Some of the other key
characters include Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli. A movie adaptation was
released in 2001. Although it is tremendously rare, in this case, the movie adaptation more
efficiently tells the story than the book. The book commences with Bilbo Bagginsone hundred and
eleventh birthday celebration (Tolkien 21 30). At the end of his party, Bilbo announces that he is
going to depart. Suddenly, he mysteriously vanishes, and the crowd is astounded (Tolkien 30).
Bilbo quickly runs to his home, grabs his belongings, and walks out the door, vowing never to
return. However, right before he departs, he is briefly visited by Gandalf the wizard. Gandalf
encourages him to leave behind a ring (Tolkien 33 34). At this point in the story, the reader has no
clue about the significance of the ring or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, sometimes this acute detail is unnecessary. For an example: throughout the book, Frodo
and his companions spend a large portion of time wandering through the woods, avoiding the
Black Riders who desire to seize the One Ring from Frodo (Tolkien 70 145). All of this time spent
wandering is not important to the story and can quite quickly make the reader lose interest or
become bored. While it is necessary to show Frodo traveling, it is not necessary to have seventy
five pages dedicated to traveling through the woods. In the movie, the time spent traveling through
the woods is very brief (Jackson). This helps the viewer stay engaged in the story. The movie keeps
only the important events, which gives the viewer an easier understanding of the

The rising cost of using British suppliers was also a burden, as rival retailers increasingly
imported their goods from low cost countries, but M S s belated switch to overseas suppliers
undermined a core part of its appeal to the public. Another factor was the company s refusal until
2000 to accept any credit cards except its own store card.[13] In addition, as an ageing and famously
bureaucratic company, it was losing touch with potential younger customers, who were reluctant to
shop with it. At the same time Greenbury, who had dominated the company, had his attention
diverted by the Prime Minister s committee on directors pay.
These factors combined to plunge M S into a sudden slump, which took the company, its
shareholders, who included hundreds of thousands of small investors, and nearly all retail analysts
and business journalists, by surprise. The company s share price fell by more than two thirds, and
its profits fell from more than a billion pounds in 1997 and 1998 to ВЈ145 million in the year
ended 31 March 2001.[14]
Since the late 1990s M S has experienced serious boardroom instability and has made a number of
attempts to revive its business, with only partial success. By 1999, Online Shopping was brought
in, and the company grew with new sales of fashion clothing. In 2001, with changes in its business

Compare And Contrast Massachusetts Bay And Jamestown
Jamestown V.S. Massachusetts Bay Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay were the first English
colonies formed in North America in the early 1600 s. While the Jamestown settlers searched for
gold, the Massachusetts Bay colonist came to escape persecution in England and obtain religious
freedoms. Although Jamestown and MassachusettsBay were both English colonies, they both share
many similarities as well as differences socially, economically, and politically. Social similarities
include the dealings with Native Americans. (examples of each) During the time of these colonies
settlement, they both had accounts with Native Americans in the area. In the early times of settling
each colony had friendly relations with the natives. Jamestown formed alliances with the Powhatan
people, while Massachusetts Bay fell into relations with the Pequot tribe. Each settlement relied on
Native Americans to survive in the New World. The Powhatan people taught colonist John Rolfe
how to grow tobacco which was in high demand in Europe at the time. This would later contribute

However, after the Bacon s Rebellion in 1676, the upper class/ plantation owners turned to a new

Health Of Health And Wellbeing
Health, as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) (1946), is the state of complete
physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . Alternate
definitions include a dynamic state of well being characterised by a physical and mental potential,
which satisfies the demands of life commensurate with age, culture, and personal responsibility
(Birscher, 2005). Healthand wellbeing statistics are vital information as an indicator of the health of
the nation. The statistics produced are observed to vary between countries as different methods and
standards of measures are applied. The extent of measurement also depends on the social awareness
of the implications of health and wellbeing.
One measure of health and wellbeing looks at the average life expectancy and mortality rates of
the population. Most countries use this measure as it is easily accessible through hospital records
and self reporting health (SRH) surveys. One of the most frequently used health status indicators,
life expectancy at birth is defined by the estimated life span of a newborn, on average, if current
mortality rates are unchanged. However, the actual age specific mortality rate of any particular birth
cohort cannot be known in advance. If rates are falling, actual life spans will be higher than life
expectancy calculated using current mortality rates. Improvements in life expectancy at birth can
be attributed to a number of factors rising living

This law is written as:
A=abc(3)
Where a is the molar absorptivity, b is the path length and c is the concentration of the analyte.
Spectrophotmetry is not only confined within the boundaries of chemistry. Its principles have
several applications in different branches of science. In biochemistry, it can be used to determine
enzyme catalyzed reactions, whereas in clinical application, it is used to examine blood and tissues.
This quantitative method of analysis can also be used in engineering, physics,etc.[2]
METHODOLOGY
The experiment was initially done by preparing standard solutions of different volumes of Cu(II)
stock solution of known concentration including a blank solution composed of ammonia and water.
Each volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of
concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted
unknown Cu(II) solution. Addition of ammonia caused the formation of deeper blue copper
ammonia complex which allowed the spectrophotometer to detect the solution easily due to
increase in its absorbance. The formation of the complex is shown by the following chemical
reaction:
Cu2+ + 4NH3 [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (4)
A deficiency in ammonia in the solution would cause the copper ammonia complex to turn into its
hydrated form which would eventually alter the accuracy of the data obtained because of its

v Salomon) Salomon v A Salomon Co Ltd [1897] AC 22 is a landmark1 UK company law case.
The effect of the Lords unanimous 2 ruling was to uphold 3firmly the doctrine4 of corporate
personality, as set out in the Companies Act 1862, so that creditors of an insolvent company could
not sue the company s shareholders to pay up outstanding debts. Facts[edit] MrAron Salomon made

The company in this case has been regarded by Vaughan Williams J. as the agent of Aron
Salomon. I should rather liken the company to a trustee for him a trustee improperly 20 brought
into existence by him to enable him to do what the statute prohibits. It is manifest 21 that the
other members of the company have practically no interest in it, and their names have merely
been used by Mr.Aron Salomon to enable him to form a company, and to use its name in order
to screen himself from liability. This view of the case is quite consistent with In re George
Newman Co.[4] In a strict legal sense the business may have to be regarded as the business of
the company; but if any jury were asked, Whose business was it? they would say Aron Salomon
s, and they would be right, if they meant that the beneficial interest in the business was his. I do
not go so far as to say that the creditors of the company could sue him. In my opinion, they can
only reach him through the company. Moreover, Mr.Aron Salomon s liability to indemnify the
company in this case is, in my view, the legal consequence of the formation of the company in
order to attain a result not permitted by law. The liability does not arise simply from the fact that
he holds nearly all the shares in the company. A man may do that and yet be under no such
liability as Mr.Aron Salomon has come under. His liability rests on the purpose for which he
formed the company, on the way he formed it, and on

Divorce a Life Changing Experience Essay
Divorce: a personal life changing experience
With this ring I thee wedВ…. For better or worse, for richer or poorerВ…. Traditionally, two
people speak these words on their wedding day, the day that two become one, the day that two
people begin a life together and share an unbreakable union. This may be so in some cases but not
all. Divorce among Americans is rampant. In society today divorces are as common as marriages
themselves. Couples meet, date, fall in love, marry, and have children and then one day: Wham!

I had lived the reasons for as long as I was old enough to remember. The arguments, the name
calling, the accusations, the past threats to move out. I was well aware of the reasons. Although
there was never any physical violence there was enough screaming and yelling to make up for it.
Usually, my mother started most of the arguments; my dad is a quite man. My mother could never
let anything rest she loved to argue. It didn t matter if it was money, family, jealousy, or the color of
the clouds in the sky that particular day; she just loved to bitch. Then one day my dad had
enough and he left. Let me go back up and say that my dad was not perfect by any means. He
was a hard worker and a good provider and he loved my mother and us. But he also allowed my
mother to always be in control of the household, the finances and the discipline. My mother
resented him for this and when things went wrong she wanted to blame him for his lack of
input. Anyway, the day my dad moved out was a day of mixed emotions, I felt like the largest
weight in the world had been lifted off of my shoulders and at the same time the sadness that I felt
was just weighing me back down. I was so glad my dad was finally going to take a stand and stop
the arguing but I was so sad that he was going to have to leave to do it.
I blame my dad for taking the easy way out and I blame my mom for allowing it. I blame society as

Skills Used in Person Centred Counselling Essay
ABC Level 3 Certificate in counselling skills
Assignment 8 Definitions of Counselling skills
Unit 3, Criterion 1.3
The skills used in counselling, vary from model to model, here are definitions of the skills used in
person centred counselling, Attentiveness and rapport building
Being attentive means giving all of your physical attention to another person so that you are fully
present for them. This will help you to notice what the client is NOT saying, by noticing their
body language, and also their tone and pace of voice. The use of non verbal cues and the
counsellor s own body language conveys to the client that he is interested in what the client has to
say. (Bolton 1979). Managing silences from the client shows ... Show more content on

It allows time for the client to collect their thoughts, and process what has happened in the session.
The counsellor should let the client be silent but still be attentive, but not try to rush the client or
fill in the gaps or silence, as this would be insensitive and could damage the counsellor client
relationship. The counsellor should track the client, if the silence is going on for a long time.
Sometimes the client gives a sign, like maybe looking directly at the counsellor, and catching his
eye the counsellor could encourage the client to try to continue by being gentle and accepting of
what was said before the silence. (Course handout 2013).
Empathic listening, Unconditional positive regard and Congruence
Empathic listening means entering the private perceptual world of another and becoming
thoroughly at home in it. It involves being sensitive, moment by moment, to the changing felt
meanings which flow in this person, to the fear or rage or tenderness or confusion or whatever that
he or she is experiencing. It means temporarily living in the other s life, moving about in it
delicately without making judgements (Rogers 1980 A Way of Being).
What this means is that the counsellor puts himself in the client s shoes and sees things through the
client s eyes, (his internal frame of reference). When a counsellor does this, he knows and feels
what the client is feeling as if he himself is feeling it, and so creates empathy and

Explain The Features Of A Breast Pump Essay
Some of the breast pumps out there have some extra features that make having a breast pump
extra handy . Make sure you know which features matter to you when you are looking for a
breast pump. Here is a list of some features to be aware of: o Insulated Storage Compartments
When you are on the go, you want to be able to store milk for later. All you need to do is keep an
ice pack in the storage compartment and you are ready for what the day may bring. o Memory
Indicator and LCD Display Some pumps have a programmable memory and even an LCD panel
to help you record the pattern of your pumping; no need to reset it every time you use it. o
Lightweight Pumps When you are toting a pump back and forth day in and day out, any weight
can add up.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
oDouble Pumping The more often you pump, the more tedious it will become and the quicker
you will want to get the job done. A double pumping breast pump will help you complete the job
by expressing both breasts at once so you can complete a session as soon as possible. Not only is
this faster, but double pumps are better for milk production. Levels of prolactin are increased
when double pumped. o Carrying Case We can all use an extra hand sometimes. And a carrying
case is just that. Most of the personal automatic breast pumps that come in a carrying case look
professional and unrecognizable as a breast pump. o Suction Settings While the best breast pumps
mimic a baby s natural nursing rhythm, not all do. Look for models that do. There should be two
settings. One setting is a rapid sucking to produce rapid milk production and the other is a slower
sucking to produce more milk production. When added together, the time should be cut down as
more milk will be produced in a shorter amount of time. Some other models allow you to regulate
the suction, speed and pumping rhythm while some have preset

[Alex Brightman] One of the interesting things about this Broadway season is that the two most
nominated shows are Hamilton and Shuffle Along, which feature big and almost entirely non

and performed exclusively by black women, and The Color Purple, which centers around black
actresses. The list goes on. What can Hollywood, learn from Broadway because they are
obviously having their own struggling with diversity at the moment? [Reed Birney] So much. I
mean, clearly [[00:00:30]] like what you just talked about in just the casting. But even beyond
the diversity within the casting and the storytelling, I think storytelling in general. I think
Hollywood is in a major drought right now, for actually capturing people s hearts and attentions
and minds. [Alex Brightman] They re sacrificing talent over whatever sells tickets. I just think
talent transcends anything else talent and drive and merit. I mean, I grew up thinking that show
business was a meritocracy, and it is not,and especially in [[00:01:00]] Hollywood. I think that
now, especially in what people are calling the new golden age of theater, we re doing it right.
People, no matter what they look like, have brought incredible stories to light. And people aren t

V. Particle Swarm Optimization ( Pso )
V.Particle Swarm optimization (PSO): It is a swarm based intelligence algorithm influenced by
the social behavior of animals cherishes a flock of birds finding a food supply or a school of

flying through a search (problem) area. The movement of every particle is coordinated by a rate

influenced by its best position and also the position of the most effective particle in an
exceedingly drawback area. The performance of a particle is measured by a fitness worth that is
drawback specific. The PSO rule is analogous to different biological process algorithms. In PSO,
the population is that the range of particles in a drawback area. Particles square measure

Duck Death And The Tulip Essay
Duck, death and the tulip is a children s book that delicately explains death. Death had been
personified to help children comprehend the concept of passing away. This picture book is about
how Death follows the Duck everywhere and anywhere the Duck goes. The objectified version of
Death does not cause the Duck any harm or lead the Duck to death, however Death follows the
Duck because death is unexpected. Although Death is objectified in this book, it s the conscience
that allows the thought of death to linger in one s life because the Duck was illustrated to be

Because death is such a complex subject for children, Duck, Death and the Tulip is able to
explain death in a lighthearted manner without excessive emotions. Furthermore, the story was
able to explain the concept of death without going into too much detail of what happens after
death and other beliefs. This allows children to interpret it in their own ways while
comprehending the theme of the story. In continuation, I believe the illustrations affect reception
because the simplistic contrasting images could have various interpretations and it is up to the
person reading the content on how they would like to interpret each picture. However, the theme
affects popular appeal because death as a theme for a children s book is a sensitive topic for
children to comprehend. Therefore, guardians and adults may be slightly surprised when they
initially read this book because of the straightforwardness of the content. Overall, Duck, Death
and the Tulip is a children s book that effectively expresses on the topic of death. The simplistic

The Hound Of Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay

Mr. Gorden
Advanced Composition

Crime is as old as humanity itself, and the first crime committed by man according to Christianity
is that of Cain killing Abel. Throughout the recorded history, the human past is significantly littered
with criminal activities including mass murder, wars, and genocides. Moreover, beginning the 18th
century, historians have pointed at new forms of crimes that target specific groups of people like a
particular ethnicity or family (Cassell, Mitchell, and Edwards, pp. 59 103). Thus, in his book The
Hound of Baskervilles, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle attempts to exploit the theme of crime through the
application of the modern perspective of crime investigation and prevention by enlisting the
expertise of crime detectives. From The Hound of Baskervilles, it is evident that the war against
crime can only be won when there is a combination of public cooperation and keen analysis of
evidence by the crime detection unit (Bunker, pp. 129 137).
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle begins his book with a small mystery when Dr. Watson Sherlock Holmes
speculate on the owner of a walking stick that had been left in their office by an unidentified visitor.
Holmes predicts the appearance of James Mortimer, the owner of the cane, wowing Watson with his
supreme observation power (Arthur, pp. 10 250). The plot then shifts to Mortimer entering the
office and unveiling the 18th century manuscript and recounting the myth of the lecherous Hugo

Representative Democracy In America
Many people believe that America is a democracy; these people are not wrong; however, the
more accurate term would be a representative democracy . The reason behind this is, as opposed
to every citizen going to the polls and voting on each public issue, we have elected officials that
vote based on their constituents preferences. Since it is the people that elect these representatives,
it is critical that public opinion be taken into consideration. However, regardless of how we gather
our data, bias often makes it difficult to accurately gauge public opinion. Public opinion can be
defined as the collective opinion of many people on some issue. When it comes to elections, party
members attempt to estimate a candidate favorability by polling the public using different
techniques such as: calling, online surveys, panels, and exit polls. However, when trying to get the
statistically most accurate result, party member must be weary of biases like biased questions,

once existed in religion and family are slowly but surely disappearing. Even today, the vast
majority of America and the world have lessened their beliefs, their worshiping of God and
practicing religion. Technology has become the new religion as it provides the materialistic
progress that people desire. Women will soon have the ability to have children but not carry the
children themselves for nine months. What is important anymore? Because of technology, a family
unit merely represents a group of people that has dinner together every so often. Values in
education and good citizenship are no longer taught to children in such intensity as distractions
brought forth by the media and video games only encourage having fun as opposed to studying and
working hard for a future. We are destroying our own world with the obsessive violence taught and
practiced by elementary

Evaluation Of A Model Of Memory Whilst Weighing Up The...
This essay aims to make an appraisal of two models of memory whilst weighing up the strengths
and limitations of each. The two models of memory I will be evaluating are the Multy store Model
of Memory (MSM) and Level of Processing Model.
Memory is defined as the mental process of encoding, then storing and retrieving information. To
enable us to store any information out memory first needs to encode information. This require three
types of encoding which are semantic encoding, which is encoding information through the
information s meaning; acoustic encoding, which is encoding information through sound; and
visual encoding which interprets information through visual images, McDermott Roediger III
(2015).
This process allows us to interpret and organise the information ready to be stored in our
memories. The second stage is the storage stage where the information enters the memory and is
maintained there for a period of time. The final stage is the retrieval stage which involves where
information that is stored in the memory being located and used, Study.com (2003 2015).
There are limits to the short term memory (STM) span, which is the longest number of items or
digits a person can recall and instantly repeat back in the correct order. Most adults can store
between 5 and 9 items in their short term memory. This notion was put forward by Miller (1956)
and he called it the magic number 7, McLeod (2009). He thought that STM could hold 7 (plus or
minus 2 items) because it

Bosla Familia Program
The Bosla Familia Program is a policy that tries to eliminate child labor through poverty
elevation by giving families with a certain low per capita income transfers as long as their children
between the ages 6 to 17 years old are enrolled in school (Pais et al., 2013, p. 664). Pais (2013)
conducted research on the program and found that it raised schoolattendance, but it did not stop
children from being involved in work activities (p. 666). Even though Pais did not find successful
results the United States Department of Labor praises the Bosla Familia program and that it has
made notable efforts (para. 2). This praise from the United States Department of Labor has created
an inconsistency between which policies are effective and which policies

Racism And Race Related Issues
In the American Constitution, the first amendment is the Freedom of Speech. It says that people
should have their voices heard, but at the same time if an individual don t know what they saying,
they should have other ethnicity different point of views. During the major incidents that ve been
happening in 2014 and 2015, when it comes to racismand racerelated issues, we only hear one
voice. Media said that many of the writers covering these topics in the past have been from the
majority white men, writing about issues that don t really affect them. These issues should be
covered by black writers men, or women.
A lot of racial incidents has been happening in African Americancommunities, such as the police
brutality in Ferguson, and Baltimore between 2014 and 2015. Racism, discrimination, and police
brutality, which will still happen because other minorities don t understand the history of the
African American. And even though if they did, they still would do basically the same thing.
Minority groups, such as the black community, should have their voices heard about things
concerning racism and oppression. Because most of the oppressed are happening with Black
African American. While others, who have no experience with discrimination should not speak on
the topic. If minority voices were given more attention and coverage about race related issues and
racism in America, we would be able to make progress in correcting certain problems. By doing so,
this would help

The Deregulation Act Of The United States
Paul Stephen Dempsey, the Hughes Research Professor of Law and Director of the
Transportation Law Program at the University Of Denver College Of Law, takes the speculation
on the cost to the ultimate level. Through his collection of data, he shows that although revenue
per passenger mile fell at 2.4% (1978 88) compared to 1.7% (1967 77), if the fuel prices are kept
constant, the fuel adjusted real yield shows that the prices were falling more rapidly at 2.7%
(1967 77) compared to 2.0% (1978 88). These figures proved that consumers were paying more in
1988 then what they would have paid with regulation in effect.
Surprisingly enough, the corroboration that the real cost has not declined after the act does not
relate to airlines profit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Kathy suggests, safety can be mainly evaluated through the airport funding and fleet age. A
quote from her article reveals the concerns at airport funding: The general Accounting Office
says the country spends $3 billion less per year on airport infrastructure than is needed to keep
up with the increased demand for air travel. This under level funding may mainspring airports to
function clumsily, and may be the root for the air traffic controllers experiencing significant
system failures (Koch). Such failures have led to near misses. The supplementary salient aspect
of safety the fleet age has also seen a degradation. One of the graphs shows that the Average Age
of Fleet in the US is much higher than the planes flown by other industrialized nations (Koch).
The decrepit planes have elevated prospects of getting technical problems that could cost
numerous lives. Dempsey presents a table accounting the fleet age of different American airlines
in his article to substantiate how sharply it has escalated after the act. Following closely is given a
table of Number of Mechanics per Aircraft that reflects a drastic shrink in numbers for most
airlines (except Northwest, Pan Am, and United) (Flying Blind). The reduced number of
technicians per aircraft results in lesser care for the aircraft that might lead to accidents. This
makes it clear that airlines are putting passenger safety at risk to increase their profits.

I Margnin By Anne Sexton
During the 1940s to 1950s the government would utilize advertisements to promote gender roles in
society, in attempt to encourage women to return home and resume the role of the perfect domestic
housewife who is always attentive to her husbands needs. Evidently, women s freedoms were
extremely limited due to society s pressures and expectations. Similarly, throughout the time period
society regarded women as inferior, however despite the expectations of society many women
expressed their opinions and sentiments through writing, stimulating the feminist movement. One
of these writers was, Anne Sexton. Anne Sexton is known as an influential confessional poet.
Which refers to the poetry of suffering , since the poetry is based on the author s personal
experiences it reveals their psychological conditions since they are often hospitalized and their

Nash Coaching Style
According to Nash (2014), a coaching style is the term used by coaches to explain how they
incorporate their values and beliefs into their coaching performance and the way they deliver their
sessions. An experiment was carried out on a group of coaches to analyse their different coaching
styles and to see how they applied these to their personal delivery and whether they were
encouraging and positive in the way they reinforced the most important aspects (What happened,
what was the result and Reference).
Coaches should be professional, always give maximum effort and have a good coaching style. If
they are not able to show good practice, they have to receive more training in order to accomplish
results (Reference).

Ap Victor Bono Analysis
U2 frontman Bono thinks a lot of young Christian artists are trapped and are not really using their
music to reflect the real events in their lives, so he wants them to be truly honest when it comes to
their art.
In an interview with Fuller Studio, Bono talked about how faith interacts with Christian art. The U2
frontman, who spent several years reading poetry in the biblical book of Psalms, came to the
realization that honesty is a must when creating art, The Huffington Post relays.
Bono is hoping that their discussion will help unlock artists who he thinks are trapped into the
pressure of not giving a wrong impression of themselves to the public. He said a great song that
pleases God should contain honest expression of an artist s experiences. ... Show more content on

We don t have to please God in any other way than to be brutally honest, Bono told Fuller Studio
in the interview. That is the root. Not just to a relationship with God, but it s the root to a great
song. That s the only place you can find a great song. The only place you can find any work of art,
of merit.
Aside from that, Bono addressed the labeling of music as either Christian or not Christian. The U2
singer said such labels are not needed in every song, and that a song should not be seen as
something that is not spiritual just because it is not classified as Christian.
Bono said he wants to hear are songs about artists rage at ongoing injustice, marriage woes, and
other topics that would spur people into action. He added that musicians should create art not
merely to please others.
This is not the first time that Bono has touched the topic of Christian faith in his interviews.
Speaking to Focus on the Family in 2013, he said losing his mother at an early age left a void
which he filled with music and also strengthened his faith, Christianity Today

Changes Europe Experienced During The Industrial Revolution
Changes Europe experienced during the Industrial Revolution o The Industrial Revolution of the
late eighteenth and middle nineteenth was progressive on the grounds that it modified,
revolutionized the productive capacity of England, Europe and United States. In any case, the
upheaval was something more than just new machines, smoke burping processing plants, expanded
efficiency and an expanded way of life. It was an upheaval which changed English, European, and
American culture down to its extremely roots. Like the Reformation or the French Revolution, no
one was left unaffected. Everybody was touched in some way peasant and noble, parent and
youngster, artisan and commander of industry.
The Industrial Revolution serves as a key to the beginnings of cutting edge Western society. The
same number of history specialists has viewed, the Industrial Revolution was no inconsequential
progression of changes in cutting edge frameworks and era, and however a social change with
social reasons furthermore critical social effects. The Industrial Revolution can be said to have
made the European working class. It made the European middle class as well. In the wake of the
Revolution, new social associations appeared. There is no denying the way that the Industrial
Revolution began in England eventually after the focal point of the 18th century. England was the
First Industrial Nation. As one money related understudy of history commented in the 1960s, it was

Incarceration In A Tale Of Two Cities
At the start of the novel, Manette has been recently released from the Bastille after a long
imprisonment. He is briefly given shelter in Paris by his former servant Ernest Defarge (who
will subsequently be a leader of the storming of the Bastille) and is then reunited with his
daughter Lucie. He does nothing but make shoes, a pastime that he adopted to distract himself
from the tortures of prison. He is clearly not in his right mind during this time; he speaks only
when necessary, and has become so used to being a prisoner that he can hardly bear light or
freedom. As he overcomes his past as a prisoner, due to his daughter s love and devotion to him,
however, he resumes his occupation as a physician in England, and proves to be a kind, loving...

As Jarvis Lorry makes his way toward France to recover Manette, the narrator reflects that every
human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other. For much of
the novel, the cause of Manette s incarceration remains a mystery both to the other characters and to
the reader. Even when the story concerning the evil Marquis St. EvrГ©monde comes to light, the
conditions of Manette s imprisonment remain hidden. Though the reader never learns exactly how
Manette suffered, his relapses into trembling sessions of shoemaking evidence the depth of his
misery. Like Carton, Manette over the course of the novel, undergoes drastic change. He is
transformed from an insensate prisoner who mindlessly cobbles shoes into a man of distinction.
The contemporary reader tends to understand human individuals not as fixed entities but rather as
impressionable and reactive beings, affected and influenced by their surroundings and by the people
with whom they interact. In Dickens age, however, this notion was rather revolutionary. Manette s
transformation testifies to the tremendous impact of relationships and experience on life. The
strength that he displays while dedicating himself to rescuing Darnay seems to confirm the lesson
that Carton learns by the end of the novel that not only does

profitability. There is mixture of a lot stakeholders like, suppliers, customers, manufacturers,
distributers, etc. in a firm. A firm is a legal entity one that signs contracts with its suppliers,
distributors, employees and often customers. (Chandler, 1992). Competitive advantage is a very
general but genuine term in the present business market. The business market is very competitive.

Labor Issues In The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck was very important to American Literature because of many things. Starting off,
he wrote about things he believed in, like labor issues. Steinbeck wrote three different books on
labor issues in California, In Dubious Battle from 1936, Of Mice and Men from 1937, and The
Grapes of Wrath from 1939. His book Of Mice and Men was his first play novelette, which did fail
at first but was remade fantastically. He did make two other play novelettes, The Moon is Down
from 1942 and Burning Bright from 1950. The Grapes of Wrath was one of his best selling books
in 1939, as New York Times has said and has also won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer
Prize for fiction in the same year. In February of 1940, 430,000 copies

Summary Of Randle Mcmurphy
Randle McMurphy is moved from a prison to a mental institute and thinks that the rules will be
less strict in the mental institute than it was in the prison. He finds out that it is not what he
thought as the nurse of the psychiatric ward, Nurse Ratched, is very strict and keeps the patients
in order by abusing them, medicating them, and electrocuting them. McMurphy does not like the
way Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward and all throughout the time that he is there, he
rebels against her commands. McMurphy s rebellious actions cause many conflicts in the ward
and harm on the other patients and himself. One particular night, McMurphy sneaks two women
into the psychiatric ward and they throw a party that goes on all throughout the night. This
party causes a lot of damage not only to the building itself, but to the workers and patients at the
ward. The night watchman of the ward, Mr. Turkle gets in trouble for allowing the women to
come into the ward. That night, Billy sleeps with Candy, one of the women that snuck into the
ward. The next day when Nurse Ratched came into work, she had seen and heard of what Billy
had done and threatened to tell his mother. The workers at the ward then locked Billy into a
room and while he in there, Billy killed himself. In addition to these effects of the party,
McMurphy was punished by getting electrocuted to the point where he could no longer function.
McMurphy s friend, Chief, sees that he can no longer function and does not want him to suffer
so he puts a pillow over his head and suffocates him to death. The movie ends with Chief escaping
the psychiatric ward and finally being able to be free. Throughout the movie, One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest, there are many sociological terms that apply to the things that take place in the
movie. Firstly, mores, which are norms that are strictly enforced because they are thought essential
to the core values or the well being of the group, are demonstrated throughout the movie (Henslin,
2014, p. 60). Nurse Ratched is very strict and enforces mores, such as patients following the
schedule and taking their medications. She enforces these mores because she believes they will
help with the well being of the patients. In addition to

Errors and Omissions Insurance: A Realtor s Must Have
No one s perfect. No matter how carefully realtors do their jobs provide training, conduct thorough
research, put a variety of controls in place, and accumulate years, even decades of experience
mistakes happen.
In addition, realtors can t possibly control everything their agents do and say all the time. For
example:
An agent sells the wrong lot of land
An agent fails to follow up on an email that includes an inspection report. The lack of oversight
results in a suit that was three times the purchase price of the home.
An agent flees the state after making a deal, leaving the clients and the realty company in trouble.
Worse still, frivolous claims can be made against an agency. Even from those unfounded or
frivolous claims, legal expenses must be paid no matter who wins in court, and those costs can be
devastating to a realtor s time and finances.

Essay on Online Communication, the Fame of Its Technology
How do people fall in love, finish degrees and manage businesses, all because of the technology
on the Internet? This is strongly answered by internet technology such as: the use of webcams and
video conferencing that has affected interpersonal communication today. Over the past few years,
video conferencing technology has been growing as a result of the desktop and internet
technology. These personal cameras allow the user to share a moving image of themselves with
others. These cameras are then used in any kind of video conferencing, or conversation there may

webcam users may explore other ways of using them for their own individual satisfaction. In
these articles it explained the use of surveillance in the working atmosphere or at home. Kim
Kamando, author of I See You , describes the amount experiences of people using the webcam for
surveillance. By doing this one can set the webcam to go into stealth monitoring mode and
secretly save the video images on your computer s hard drive for later viewing (Kimando). Such
users would put them out for baby sitters, in their home offices, and in the workplace. Webcam
security is also small and hard to see, which makes security unnoticeable. Others have spoke of
using webcams to allow people to inspect schools campuses. The author suggest that this idea of
webcams on their website has been used for about five to ten years, but just has not been a priority.
Though now they re trying to change that for students and students for the future.

The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to support heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded. Unfortunately, a short fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was a prosperous yet modest western Pennsylvaniatown. The town had an iron company called Cambria Iron Company, which employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time, had a few phones, three local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self sufficient. Interestingly enough, fourteen miles up the valley, South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, was set in the mountains and was a popular summer destination for the wealthy of Pittsburgh. Overnight, people at the club upriver noticed that the lake rose two feet over night. The spillway definitely couldn t handle more water. Debris accumulated around the innovative fish screens that were put in place to make fishing easy and leisurely for the wealthy. Recently, in developed countries, societies promote enhancement supplements and medications in their standards for what its members should aspire to use. Because of this, men face increasingly more pressure to take these products so they can comply with social norms. The modern sports industry shows this increasing trend in male consumption of supplements. The advertisers intentionally include a bland background so viewers focus on the only other figure present in the photograph: a lone man wearing gym clothes. The advertisement does not show the man s face, but does display his physique clearly. The man is large and muscular, and he appears to flex his muscles to show their outlines clearly. The absence of the man s face in the image shows how the advertisers portray the man s physique as the primary focus of the image by stripping the man of a unique identity, therefore mystifying him. By making his identity irrelevant, the advertisement seeks to present the man as the standard for physical perfection that all men should seek to achieve. The words used in the advertisement also aim to present the man as a dominant figure. The advertisers intend for two words to stand out. They bold, underline, and completely capitalize the words BOSS IT in the upper right hand dominant corner of the advertisement. By telling men to boss their workout, the advertisers appeal to the traditional image of the dominant male figure. The advertisement tells men to Walk in. Tear it up. Walk away. These words further imply that men should dominate their work out, however, by also telling them to simply walk away, the advertisers imply that the supplement will allow men to tear up their workout in a casual and effortless manner. • 8. The Royal Perogative Essay The royal prerogative is a source of constitutional law, it derives from common law powers that have from the monarchy to the executive. The significance in constitutional law of the prerogative is that it provides the executive with considerable power to act without following normal parliamentary procedures. As Dicey explained, the prerogative is every act which the executive government can lawfully do without the authority of an Act of parliament. In constitution terms it is therefore important to explore the means by which the UK constitution secures the accountability for the exercise of prerogative powers by the executives. Prerogative powers are those exercisable by the crown without statutory authority. Although historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bill of rights of (1688) can be seen as the historical origin of the supremacy of parliament and since that point, many of the prerogative powers have been abolished or superseded by the state. Prerogative powers, then can be described as the residual powers of the state that are not governed by the legislation and do not require authorisation by parliament. These include important matters of governance; the disposition of the armed forces; regulation of the armed forces: the grant of honours; diplomatic relations and making of treaties; the appointment of the minister and the dissolution of parliament. The queen retains the personal power to grant certain honours, to assent the Bills passed by parliament, to appoint the prime minister, and to dissolve parliament. The powers that fall within its scope are often of crucial importance to government, and it is perhaps peculiar that the limitations and controls upon the prerogative have not yet been formalised. Modern prerogative powers may be defined as the legal powers inherent in Government, which do not require the approval of Parliament for their exercise. It is traditionally been difficult to identify and assess the extent of prerogative powers within no codified list of those that exist. In October 2009 the Government published a review of ... • 9. Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own, written by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in England, and by Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a work. Woolf s commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the struggles of women in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by men, but also the general inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation, though relevant and groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its persuasiveness and power in a modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction. Due to an ever changing civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is thus deemed irrelevant, a word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to write the essay A Room of One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the main topic would be. Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what they are like (...) the fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1). She does this by employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the topics, while within daily situations. The entirety of the essay during the time of its writingand publication served the purpose of sparking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Love, Care, And Treat People With Respect From A Very... I was taught to love, care, and treat people with respect from a very young age. When I was a young girl, my mom would take me with her to work. At the time, she worked at an assisted living center in Rome, Georgia. You see, I was a very quiet and curious child who observed the world innocently with bright, untainted eyes. I didn t care much to be around the other children who were usually loud and somewhat bothersome, but I enjoyed being around adults. So when my mom would take me with her, the elderly people living there found much joy in having my company. I would sit and listen to them tell me all sorts of stories from their past for hours on end, but I loved to hear about them. In a way, I somehow understood that these people were lonely and only had so much time left. They just wanted someone who could appreciate them and what they had to say; they wanted to feel like they were of some importance and had a sense of meaning. I cared greatly about what they had to say, even though I didn t understand it that much. More importantly, I cared about their feelings and wellbeing. I can still remember at least two of my mom s patients. One was a man named Lou, and I believe he wore a prosthetic leg. He was a very sweet and dear old man who loved the outdoors. My mom would bring him outside in the mornings to watch the birds and to get some fresh, crisp, morning air. He had become a great friend to the both of us, a bit like a father and ... • 11. Animals And Slavery In George Orwell s Animal Farm Most people never really think about the fact that animals are actually slaves. People are not the only ones who are known for being slaves. Animals are controlled and manipulated into doing things against their will the same way slaves were while under the rule of the American colonists before, during, and after the American Revolution. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves and controlled by a tyrant leader, like those of the American Revolution. The animals were treated like the slaves of the American Revolution. Before the animals in the book revolted, they believed that the life of an animal was normal. They did not understand that what was happening to them was a form of slavery. The slaves knew that their lives were only going to amount of slavery, because they understood that they were born into it and nothing was going to get them out of it except for death. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth (Orwell 5). • 13. Sports In Sports Introduction The primary object of sports is, of course, exercise, but sports have a far greater impact on the wellbeing of many besides physical health. Introducing new opportunities for youth, sports create unbreakable bonds, build athletes characters, unite communities, and promote teamwork. Undoubtedly, sports can positively impact many children of all ages. As children grow older and become more athletic, parents and athletes may consider specializing in one sport to maximize the athlete s chance of earning a scholarship for college; furthermore, almost every youth athlete, myself included, dreams of becoming a professional athlete one day, so they will do anything to achieve that goal. On the contrary, specializing in one sport may have the opposite effect. Depriving themselves from diverse environments, specialized athletes are excluded from valuable lessons that are beneficial for sports and life. Specializing in one sport today is not merely playing one season of a sport, but specialization is intensely concentrating on one sport year round. For this reason, athletes should play multiple sports because focusing on one sport all year does not produce the same benefits as playing multiple sports throughout the year. Most athletes, including myself, would probably agree that they love more than one sport, and if this is the case, then athletes should participate in every sport they love. After all, the purpose of sports is not to earn money or to become famous but to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Fellowship Of The Ring Movie And Book Comparison Essay The Fellowship of the Ring Book/Movie Comparison Written by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 1954; it is the first book in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The plot centers around a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who must embark on a treacherous journey to destroy the One Ring. He is accompanied by Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Some of the other key characters include Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli. A movie adaptation was released in 2001. Although it is tremendously rare, in this case, the movie adaptation more efficiently tells the story than the book. The book commences with Bilbo Bagginsone hundred and eleventh birthday celebration (Tolkien 21 30). At the end of his party, Bilbo announces that he is going to depart. Suddenly, he mysteriously vanishes, and the crowd is astounded (Tolkien 30). Bilbo quickly runs to his home, grabs his belongings, and walks out the door, vowing never to return. However, right before he departs, he is briefly visited by Gandalf the wizard. Gandalf encourages him to leave behind a ring (Tolkien 33 34). Another factor was the company s refusal until 2000 to accept any credit cards except its own store card.[13] In addition, as an ageing and famously bureaucratic company, it was losing touch with potential younger customers, who were reluctant to shop with it. At the same time Greenbury, who had dominated the company, had his attention diverted by the Prime Minister s committee on directors pay. These factors combined to plunge M S into a sudden slump, which took the company, its shareholders, who included hundreds of thousands of small investors, and nearly all retail analysts and business journalists, by surprise. • 19. Health Of Health And Wellbeing Health, as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) (1946), is the state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . Alternate definitions include a dynamic state of well being characterised by a physical and mental potential, which satisfies the demands of life commensurate with age, culture, and personal responsibility (Birscher, 2005). Healthand wellbeing statistics are vital information as an indicator of the health of the nation. The statistics produced are observed to vary between countries as different methods and standards of measures are applied. The extent of measurement also depends on the social awareness of the implications of health and wellbeing. One measure of health and wellbeing looks at the average life expectancy and mortality rates of the population. Most countries use this measure as it is easily accessible through hospital records and self reporting health (SRH) surveys. One of the most frequently used health status indicators, life expectancy at birth is defined by the estimated life span of a newborn, on average, if current mortality rates are unchanged. However, the actual age specific mortality rate of any particular birth cohort cannot be known in advance. If rates are falling, actual life spans will be higher than life expectancy calculated using current mortality rates. In biochemistry, it can be used to determine enzyme catalyzed reactions, whereas in clinical application, it is used to examine blood and tissues. This quantitative method of analysis can also be used in engineering, physics,etc.[2] METHODOLOGY The experiment was initially done by preparing standard solutions of different volumes of Cu(II) stock solution of known concentration including a blank solution composed of ammonia and water. Each volume of the solution was placed in volumetric flasks, and in each flask, same amount of concentrated NH3 was added. The same procedures were also done in the preparation of the diluted unknown Cu(II) solution. Addition of ammonia caused the formation of deeper blue copper ammonia complex which allowed the spectrophotometer to detect the solution easily due to increase in its absorbance. The formation of the complex is shown by the following chemical reaction: Cu2+ + 4NH3 [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (4) A deficiency in ammonia in the solution would cause the copper ammonia complex to turn into its hydrated form which would eventually alter the accuracy of the data obtained because of its

The counsellor should track the client, if the silence is going on for a long time. Sometimes the client gives a sign, like maybe looking directly at the counsellor, and catching his eye the counsellor could encourage the client to try to continue by being gentle and accepting of what was said before the silence. • 37. The Hound Of Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay Matthew Le Mr. Gorden Advanced Composition 11/14/2016 Crime is as old as humanity itself, and the first crime committed by man according to Christianity is that of Cain killing Abel. Throughout the recorded history, the human past is significantly littered with criminal activities including mass murder, wars, and genocides. Moreover, beginning the 18th century, historians have pointed at new forms of crimes that target specific groups of people like a particular ethnicity or family (Cassell, Mitchell, and Edwards, pp. 59 103). Thus, in his book The Hound of Baskervilles, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle attempts to exploit the theme of crime through the application of the modern perspective of crime investigation and prevention by enlisting the expertise of crime detectives. From The Hound of Baskervilles, it is evident that the war against crime can only be won when there is a combination of public cooperation and keen analysis of evidence by the crime detection unit (Bunker, pp. 129 137). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle begins his book with a small mystery when Dr. Watson Sherlock Holmes speculate on the owner of a walking stick that had been left in their office by an unidentified visitor. Holmes predicts the appearance of James Mortimer, the owner of the cane, wowing Watson with his supreme observation power (Arthur, pp. 10 250). The reason behind this is, as opposed to every citizen going to the polls and voting on each public issue, we have elected officials that vote based on their constituents preferences. Since it is the people that elect these representatives, it is critical that public opinion be taken into consideration. However, regardless of how we gather our data, bias often makes it difficult to accurately gauge public opinion. Public opinion can be defined as the collective opinion of many people on some issue. • 43. Evaluation Of A Model Of Memory Whilst Weighing Up The... This essay aims to make an appraisal of two models of memory whilst weighing up the strengths and limitations of each. The two models of memory I will be evaluating are the Multy store Model of Memory (MSM) and Level of Processing Model. Memory is defined as the mental process of encoding, then storing and retrieving information. To enable us to store any information out memory first needs to encode information. This require three types of encoding which are semantic encoding, which is encoding information through the information s meaning; acoustic encoding, which is encoding information through sound; and visual encoding which interprets information through visual images, McDermott Roediger III (2015). This process allows us to interpret and organise the information ready to be stored in our memories. The second stage is the storage stage where the information enters the memory and is maintained there for a period of time. The final stage is the retrieval stage which involves where information that is stored in the memory being located and used, Study.com (2003 2015). There are limits to the short term memory (STM) span, which is the longest number of items or digits a person can recall and instantly repeat back in the correct order. Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short term memory. This notion was put forward by Miller (1956) and he called it the magic number 7, McLeod (2009).
