Beyond Happiness And Unhappiness Summary
In Steven Donoso s essay Beyond Happiness and Unhappiness, Ekhart Tolle makes his views
concerning how individuals attempt to establish and define their personality clear. He
constantly emphasizes the points that life and Now are one (6) and that we live in a world of
mental abstraction, conceptualization, and image making a world of thought (6). Essentially,
what Tolle states is that one usually do not have much say in who they are or who they are
becoming, people are merely conditioned by external forces such as family and the past, society,
technology, and religion to think the way they do and unless they can see the conditioning in
themselves they will be unable to get free of it. According to Tolle, one of the biggest influences
that help to define who we are is our family. He states that from the moment a parent tells their
child their name people s sense of identity... gets bound up with their mental concepts and mental
images of I and me (6). In saying this, he is basically saying that we are conditioned as soon as
we can identify ourselves with our name because at this point, we have already begun to label
ourselves. Along with this, Tolle also explains that as humans we tend to live in the past and in the...

We are surrounded by technology and new inventions every day. At first glance, new inventions
may seem to be a positive thing, however, as Tolle says, we eventually see how destructive new
inventions can become. His example of this is World War 1, he says that technology and science
multiplied the effects of human madness a thousand times (7) he then goes to say that we had to
turn our faces away (7). By saying this, Tolle reinforces the idea that we can destroy the planet
without realizing what we re doing. The First World War was approached through the
conceptualizing mind (7) thus it was reduced and because of this we were able to cause so much

Significant Role of the Hippocampus Essay
Significant Role of Hippocampus
Hippocampus is a small, curved region, which exists in both hemispheres of the brain and plays a
vital role in emotions, learning and acquisition of new information. It also contributes majorly to
long term memory, which is permanent information stored in the brain. Although long term
memory is the last information that can be forgotten, its impairment has become very common
nowadays. The dysfunction is exemplified by many neurological disorders such as amnesia. There
are two types of amnesia, anterograde and retrograde. Anterograde amnesia is inability in forming
new information, while retrograde refers to the loss of the past memory. As suggested by Cipolotti
and Bird (2006), hippocampus s lesions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that bilateral and unilateral hippocampus does not contribute majorly to familiarity and
recollection of unknown human s faces.
Since hippocampus plays an important function in the brain, it has become a great topic for many
conducted research not only on human but also animals, specifically primates and rodents. In
primate model of amnesia, the experiment is performed through three main tasks delayed nonmatch
to sample, object discrimination paradigm and motor skill learning across multiple trials
(Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In delayed non matching test, both amnesic and intact monkey show
nearly same performance rate in remembering objects across delayed in short period of time
(Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In contrast, amnesic monkeys show a great impairment for longer
delayed conditions, hours, in picking the right non matched samples (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).
Likewise, in object discrimination task, amnesic monkeys are unable to recognize objects, as
compared to control monkeys (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).These tests suggest the importance of
hippocampus in acquisition of new information and recollection old events from episodic memory.
Additionally, hippocampus also contributes largely to relational representation, as a characteristic
of declarative memory (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). This can be shown through odor discrimination

AT T Turnover
AT T is one of the prominent telecommunications companies in the world and is doing extremely
well. As an example, AT T provides to customers 4G LTE network, and people who utilized their
services seem to be satisfied. AT T has been around since October 5, 1983. Alexander Graham Bell
was the founder. Verizon is a global IP leader, operating one of the worlds most connected public
Internet backbone networks, delivering solutions that let customers securely connect, communicate
and collaborate around the globe Verizon Communications, based in the United Stateswas founded
by William J. Katherine in 1983. Verizon provides mobile broadband services within the United

If employers do not satisfy their employees with benefits that are beneficial to them and their
families, employees will seek work elsewhere (Courville, J. (n.d.). If there is a low turnover rate,
employees are satisfied and will continue their work journey with the employer. AT Tis one that has
low employee turnover because they offer their employees attractive benefits packages that
compensate for lower incomes. Increased productivity for employees will also perform their
jobs well because they are familiar with what is required and will get the job done and go home
(Courville, J. (n.d.). AT T is one that have a competitive cost benefits package. One of the reasons
is because AT T has been in business longer than Verizon and Sprint. Also, AT T is equipped with
the best qualified personnel. Also, AT T saves money on training employees because the majority of
workers are highly experienced in telecommunications. Therefore, AT T sees the workforce as
stable, resulting in increased productivity (Courville, J. (n.d.).

Setting in John SteinbeckВґs East of Eden
John Steinbeck s, East of Eden, is set in the Salinas Valley, a secluded area of Northern California.
The Salinas River runs through this beautiful, yet unforgiving land and provides fertility to the dry
land. While the valley has a rich geographical history spanning from sea, to forest, and then to the
present day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges
form the landscape of the valley that the author uses to exemplify the idea of good and evil. This
theme is further outlined by the strong personalities of characters Cathy, Aron, and Cal. Cathy
and Aron have opposing dispositions, similarly to Steinbeck s descriptions of the Santa Lucias
and the Gabilan mountains. In between the two peaks is the valley, where both good and evil
preside. Cal s personality mirrors this setting as he struggles internally between being good and
evil for most of his life. Steinbeck s emphasis on dramatic setting correlates directly to the
personalities of the main characters in order to outline the theme of conflict between good and
evil in East of Eden. Evilness and its conflict with goodness in East of Eden is emphasized in
setting by the Santa Lucia Mountains and in character by Cathy Ames. The mountains provoke a
sense of fright and terror in Steinbeck as he remarks, The Santa Lucias stood up against the sky to
the west and kept the valley from the open sea, and they were dark and brooding unfriendly and
dangerous... I always found myself a

Informative Essay On Kelseyton Manning
There is a quote that I feel connected very well: The universe is always speaking to us...sending us
little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, look around, to
believe in something else, something more. In order for us to connect to the world we all have to
understand that more than we think is connected, if we think about it everything can be connected
in some way. Specifically this essay will ultimately connect NFL superstar Peyton Manningall the
way to why the birth cycle we have came to exist. A perfect Sunday afternoon watching the
greatest NFL Quarterback in history, Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is probably not only my
favorite Quarterback, he won many fans over. His success was part of it winning two Super Bowl

very next year Manning passed Brett Favre (Green Bay Packers legendary Quarterback) for most
pass touchdowns and most passing yards. (Peyton Manning Biography). As Peyton grew older
retirement was near, but again that did not stop him, in 2016 his final year his Denver Broncos
defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Although it was a sad day when Peyton retired,
but he did leave the NFL with memorable statements: After 18 years, it s time. God bless all of
you, and god bless football. (Peyton Manning Biography). Maybe Peyton Manning is not your

Opening to a Horror Story Essay
Opening to a Horror Story
They told him the house was haunted. They told him the house was strange. Five families had
moved in, and never made it out. Alive anyway. He had already survived two days with his family.
His second night in his new home, what could possibly happen?
A whispered name.
The boy stirs in his sleep. A pale, vaporous moon lights the room. Shadows are deep. He twists his
head, turning towards the window so that his face becomes a soft mask, unblemished, colourless.
But the boy s dream is troubled; beneath his lids, his eyes dart to and fro.
The whispered name:

He stands at the door, as if fearing to touch. But he is puzzled. More he is curious. He twists the
handle, the metal s coldness leaping along his arm like iced energy released from a source. The
shock is mild against the damp chill of his own body. He pulls the door open and the darkness
beyond is more dense; it seems to swell into the bedroom, a waxing shadow. He shrinks away,
reluctant to allow contact with this fresh darkness.
His vision adjusts, and the inkiness scatters as if weakened by its own sudden growth. He
advances again, passing through the doorway to stand shivering on the landing overlooking the
staircase. To descend this would be like sinking into the blackest of all pits, for darkness down
there appears final.
Still the hushed whisper urges:
...Daniel...
He listens for a moment more, perhaps wishing that the minor voice would also rouse his sleeping
parents. There is no sound from their room; grief has exhausted their bodies as well as their spirit.
He stares into the centre of the darkness below, terribly compelled to descend.
The fingers of one hand slide against the wall, as he does so, their tips rippling over the textured
wall paper. Disbelief mingles with the fascination and the fear. Small lights caught from who knows

A Careful Analysis of a Research Study: Dr. Andersen s Hypothesis
The purpose of this paper is to provide a critical review of a recent study examining the effects of
violent video games on aggressive behavior in young children. Let me first provide a brief
summary of the study. (a) The hypothesis is that violent video games cause aggressionin young
children. (b) The target population is young children. (c) The samples are young school age
children and the sample sizes are sixty children separated into two groups with 30 children being
in the experimental group and 30 children being in the control group. (d) The independent variable
is violent video games and the dependent variable is aggression. (e) The result of the experiment

Some children may not have any experience playing violent video games at all. (3) The gender of
the children would also be a factor because usually boys are more likely to have a predisposition
towards aggression than girls. Boys would also more likely have more experience playing certain
kinds of video games, especially violent games, where there may be hitting or fighting. Violent
video games would possibly affect boys more than girls and there is the possibility that some girls
may have no experience or familiarity with violent video games at all. The background conditions
of the child s home environment would also contribute to the results garnered from the experiment.
A child from a broken, dysfunctional home may have previously exposed to violence and may use
violence and aggression as a way of natural expression as opposed to a child from a stable and
enriched home environment. The child from a stable home may have a very different upbringing,
being taught very early on to have a negative sentiment towards violence and though familiar with
video games, may not even have been allowed or exposed to video games of a violent nature.
These factors would affect Andersen s findings and therefore need to be controlled in order to
obtain an accurate result from the experiment.

Thyristor Ram
THYRISTOR RAM
Muktesh Waghmare, Raman Gaikwad
1: Principle:
Thyristor is well known for its high current drive capability and its bi stable characteristics. It has
been widely used in power electronics applications. With the exponential advances in CMOS
technology tiny thyristor devices can now be easily embedded into conventional nano scale
CMOS. This enables the creation of a memory cell technology with features that include small cell
size, high performance, reliable device operation, and good scalability. Use of thyristor provides a
positive regenerative feedback that results in very large bit cell operation margins. The difference is
that the four transistor CMOS latch of a 6T SRAM is replaced by the PNP NPN bipolar latch of a ...

Indium is known to have an acceptor level which is 156 meV above the top of the valence band
of silicon. As a result, the fraction of ionized indium atoms increases with temperature, resulting in
reduced gain. Such a thyristor (TCCT) that has good thermal stability, large switching speed and a
small fabrication size is used to create memory cells. Two possible thyristor cell structures for
memory devices are as follows:
3.1: Thyristor based S RAM: T RAM consists of a thin vertical thyristor with a surrounding MOS
gate as the bi stable element and a planar NMOSFET as the access transistor. A novel gate
assisted switching mechanism is used in T RAM which enables the thyristor to switch at a high
speed and a low voltage level. [5]

Both WL1 and WL2 are high. The first word line will control the access gate while the second
word line will control the thyristor gate. When writing a high , the bit line BL is set at low, and
both word lines WL1, WL2 are switched on. At this moment, the thyristor behaves like a forward
biased PN diode. After a write operation, both gates are shut off, and a high state is stored in the
thyristor.

Evaluation Of The Montford Unit Offers Services
Following this even further, the Montford unit offers services to admitted patients regardless if
they are offenders or general medical issues for individuals. The services that are provided is
550 psychiatric beds, a 48 bed general medical and surgical unit, gardens for the Lubbock food
bank, housing stables, and roads located on 120 acres of land (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz,
2004, p. 86). All of these services help offenders because everything is done in house regardless
of the issue. They have food, roof of over their head; they can provide assistance to others by
helping box up food items for the homeless or low income families. They could also do
nontraditional activities such as art therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational
therapy (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz, 2004, p. 86). The activities will keep their mind active and
thinking constantly. It could even lead to a hobby that can turn into a business. The most important
elements to consider for an individual with a mental illness after being released from a mental health
care facility is how they reintegrate with their family and receive social support. For example, if the
individual is going to live with their family the best thing to do is to assess the families home and
living situation, so that the environment is not threatening to them. It will undermine the treatment
process and ruin any positive outcomes the individual has done up to this point. In order to

Color Purple Archetypes
Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple, portrays the main character Celie as an introverted
butterfly who has yet to come out of her cocoon, hiding away from confrontation and actions that
could cause negative reactions. As the story progresses, she blossoms before the reader,
becoming more present in her world where she would otherwise be shuttered in. Her character
development is due to the introduction of two very empowering and independent women, acting
as female archetypes throughout the novel. Shug, a woman with a fiery personality that ignites
inspiration in Celie to further herself as a woman, is the main focal point of the female
archetype in this novel. Celie wants to change herself; not to fit into the mold in which Shug has
pushed herself into, but to better her life. Shug s personality was able to rid Celie of the internal
dark cloud living inside her. Shug is clearly identified as a female archetype throughout the novel;
an empowering woman who stands against the odds she has been faced with. Another female
archetype in the novel is Sofia, Mr._____ s (Celie s husband) daughter in law. Sofia shares many

dry her tears, becoming a caregiver of sorts. She can also be seen as possessing the hero
archetype because Celie admires Shug and aspires to be similar to her, not in her behavior but her
confident personality. Celie sees how easily it is for Shug to stand up for herself and to act

most of the themes we ve done are based off of movies and TV. At the moment it feels like we

The Epidemiology, Treatment And Rehabilitation Of An...
The Epidemiology, Treatment and Rehabilitation of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture
Introduction The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured ligament in the
body (Spindler, 2008). Griffin (2005) estimated that around 80 000 to more than 250 000 ACL
injuries occur each year. An anterior cruciate ligamentrupture (ACLR) can be a devastating injury
to an athlete, as they encounter the possibility of reconstructive surgery alongside extensive months
of rehabilitation. Also many athletes are unable to return to their former level of athletic
performance within the first postoperative year, with many athletes unable to return to play at all
(Panariello, 2015).
Epidemiology An ACLR can be caused by many mechanisms with 70% being reported with a
noncontact nature and 30% reported with the involvement of contact from an outside force such as
an opposing player. Of the non contact mechanisms, common movements involved in an ACLR
include cutting movements, landing from a jump with inadequate hip and knee flexion close to full
extension (Silvers Mandelbaum, 2011). Female athletes are at a greater risk of ACL injuries when
compared to their male counter parts, with a two to tenfold higher incidence rate (Silvers,
Mandelbaum, 2011). Females are predisposed to ACL injuries due to intrinsic factors. Compared
to males, females have a smaller ACL cross sectional area as well increased quadriceps angle
(Sutton, Bullock Montgomery, 2013). However, although

shooting, most of us immediately pause and begin to think the worst. We are filled with sorrow
that soon turns to anger as details of the event emerge. A portion of the population immediately
begins to call for more gun regulation and the battle is staged again. This scenario plays out in the
media and in the legislative halls around the country and seems to occur on a much too frequent
basis. Has the frequency of mass shootings actually increased? Or has technology allowed the
media to convey stories within minutes of their occurrence giving the appearance of increasing

on active shooter incidents. Active shooter statistics released by the F.B.I. reveal a total of 219
incidents that occurred between the years 2000 2016 in which forty three could be considered an
inner city by definition ( 2000 ). Research compiled by James Alan Fox shows that the number of
mass shootings has averaged twenty per year for the previous thirty years (Domenech). Fox is a
criminologist at Northeastern University in Boston. This means that less than twenty percent of all
mass shootings occur within inner cities based on the faintest of definitions. Additionally, large
cities experience an overwhelming majority of gang violence and criminal activity (Doak). It is
estimated that more than half of all homicides in major cities are considered gang related
(Whittaker). If you factor out gang activity from mass shootings, the numbers fall even further.
Inner cities experience heightened criminal activity in general due to concentrated areas of higher
population, but statistical evidence shows that mass shootings occur more frequently in rural and
suburban areas. One area that supporters and opponents of gun control agree upon is that mental
health issues are contributing to mass shootings. Legislators representing areas that include inner
city districts have become very passionate about the issue due in part to deinstitutionalization. In
1955, public policy addressing the severely mentally ill changed and the process of

Facing a difficult challenge for caregivers of young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
isn t easy, yet it s hard due to the fact of deciding on the proper treatment plan for the child.
Programs emphasizing usage of structured settings, tight stimulus control, and adult directed
instruction are labeled as current evidence that supports the early educational interventions which is
based on the developmental and applied behavioral analytic principles leading to the models that
focus on opportunities of naturalistic delivery of learning within child led routines. Nevertheless,

Testing the effect of every possible combination of evidence based interventions and every possible
factor that might be related to outcomes is logistically unfeasible. Therefore, a research program
informed by theory driven hypotheses is crucial for facilitating a rational use of research resources
in these areas (Vivanti, 2017, p.114 115). The ASD is an early intervention field due to having a
relevant obstacle in the research agenda at a pre paradigmatic stage (Kuhn, 1962) which is a stage
where practices are informed by competing meta theoretical orientations (e.g., behavioral theory,
cognitive theory, and developmental theory) operate in consonance with disparate vocabularies and
criteria used for appraising evidence (Ingersoll, 2010; Smith, 2014). Different treatments of
individualization and combination have to generate testable prognosis, current frameworks of pre

The Exodus Of The Beginning Of Israel
Exodus marks the start of Israel as a people. They were an extended family, under a dynasty of
strong pharaohs. They oppressed Israel and put them to forced labor, for fear of their number size.
Still, they multiplied faster, therefore, a decree was issued to destroy them by ordering the death of
all baby boys.
At this particular time Moses was born, from the tribe of Levi. Although trained as the son of
Pharaoh s daughter, yet, his own mother was hired to care for him due to her placing him in the
bulrushes at the edge of the Nile River to not be destroyed because of Pharaoh s order to kill all
baby boys. With his mother caring for him, he grew up knowing the plight of his people. Many
years passed approximately 80 when God appeared to Moses as a shepherd in Midian, in a burning
bush and commanded him to go return to Egypt to rescue the Israelites out of slavery.
From Egypt to Mt. Sinai
Moses was a new beginning for the Israelites. Moses was obedient to God and followed God s
pattern Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:1 11. He was also the forerunner (foreshadow of Christ) 2
Timothy 1:8 10. He was chosen by God to free Israel from Egypt Exodus 6:1 13. This was also the
fourth generation since Jacob Exodus 16 26.
The stage was set for Pharaoh to witness God s awesome power through Moses Exodus 7 9.
Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let God s people go due to God s hardening of his heart. However,
God miraculously delivered His people from the hands of the most powerful

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Essay
The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells is focused around a man fascinated with the difference
between animal and man. Dr. Moreau, a man surely seen as a mad scientist to the outside world,
and maybe correctly. Dr. Moreau is determined to establish a sustainable human population, but all
he has on his secluded island, are a bunch of beasts. Although, this appears to be a problem, he still
works toward his goal, in rather experimental stages.
The genre of the story is very much science fiction, but it is also realistic fiction. Although this is
not based on any true events, the idea of experimenting on and evolving humans is not only
possible, but would most likely be a common thing if not for the lack of legality of the practice. The
point of view is definitely first person as the book is written as a diary of sorts. The narrator is

Edward Prendick, being the protagonist as well as narrator of the book showed most development
in his opinion of the beast people. Prendick went from being scared to death of the beasts turned
humans when he first came ashore on the island, to being friendly, feeling pity when they were
tortured, and back to being scared to death again when one of them killed the doctor. He is very
philosophical when it comes to the comparison between man and beast.
Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans.
But mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the
meaning of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to
manipulate both life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals
that he experimented on, roam free and none survive long enough to

This case all started because back in early 1850s, when Emerson wanted to move from Missouri

both side wanted new western states to fall under their views. Missouri compromise of 1819 was

sovereignty which is the people voting for whether the new states become free or slave. This
backfires because Illinois was a free state and by their law it meant that Dred Scott was a free
man. However because this case was addressed in the supreme court, Chief Justice Roger Taney
have the power to decide the final verdict of this case and wanted abolitionist to understand that
slavery can never be abolished. Since Chief justice Roger Taney is a Democratic white slave owner
from the south his views on slavery might lean on the supporting side. Thus he needs evidences to

Junk Food Tax Paper
ABSTRACT
Obesity is an epidemic that is sweeping the United States at a rapid speed, and it kills. Obesity is
responsible for killing more people than anything else, except for smoking. It affects people of
all ages, races, income levels, and geographic locations. Obesity brings with it a myriad of
problems that the individuals who suffer from it face, as well as social problems that are felt by
people in all walks of life. There are astronomical costs that are attributed to it, being paid by
society in the form of medical fees, unemployment benefits, and other miscellaneous costs. This
report proposes that these costs and problems need to be addressed, and one avenue through which
they can be is a junk food tax. This report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these issues will be positively affected by this proposal as well.
It is also important to note that this problem is not isolated to a specific group of individuals,
although there are groups that are higher risk than others. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone can become obese but ...the risk for becoming overweight
and obese tends to be higher among members of racial and ethnic minority populations such as
African Americans and Hispanic Americans. In addition, the disease tends to be more common
among individuals of lower socio economic status (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2005). This indicates that there are groups whose members are more likely to become obese.
Because of the trend for junk food to cost less than more healthy alternatives, those who have less
access to financial resources are more likely to be come obese.
As serious as obesity is, this issue is not a new one for our nation. Obesity has been a problem
that has been addressed and studied since before the early 1930s, when doctors began to see a link
between obesity and shorter life span (Pool, 2001, p. 7). Since then, and most noticeably in the last
twenty years, obesity has swept our nation to become a condition that plagues more than 60 million
adults in America, nearly one in three adults in this country (Figure 1). Jessica Bazzi, RN, stated

According to the Singapore consumer watchdog, there have been an increasing number of
complaints against tuition agencies in the country. With the given situation, the quality of education
is then compromised. Several agencies remain to be unregulated, making and following their own
rules. Given the standard regulations and procedures, owners still remain to be deviant. Others
owners are informed however, that they still manage to overlook the standards. To serve as a
guideline, the following is a discussion on the standard procedures on how to set up a tuition agency
in Singapore.
Two Methods to Register
Basically, there are two methods of registration: 1) smart and paper forms and 2) electronic
registration.
The first method requires ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CPE Requirement
1. Evidence of Registration by ACRA
All the relevant documents from ACRA must be forwarded to CPE for compliance. Without the
requirements, the applicants cannot move forward to further registration procedures. One of the
requirements checked is the tuition agency for proprietary. The proprietary name is integrated with
academy, school, or education to be labelled as a place of learning.
The CPE makes sure that no two tuition agencies have the same name, otherwise parents and
students will be confused. Association with the government such as the inclusion of Singapore,
nations or government is also discouraged.
2. Details of the Agency Managers
A list of the ruling body for the tuition agency must also be identified. The managers are the same
with the listed directors of the business as registered by ACRA. A full personal detail in the
Declaration Form is required. In case of the issues, this form serves as a proof for accountability of
the managers. It is also used for scrutiny.
3. Suitability of the Agency Premises
The agency premise is more on the infrastructure allotted by the tuition agency. Much like in every
educational institution, there is a minimum space for classrooms and administrative duties. Aside
from the enclosures, CPE also requires all the premises to be danger free. In fact, CPE ensures that

Abolishing Electoral College
Former President Obama said, We need to ensure peaceful transfer of power from one freely
elected president to the next ( Obama Farewell Speech ). The sincerity of a peaceful transition of
power is decaying because of the Electoral College. The Electoral College was set up by Article II
clause II in the constitution, which laid out how the president and vice president would be elected
(Kimberling). The only major change it went through was in the form of the 12th Amendment. It
stated that the electors would cast one vote for president and one vote for vice president, instead of
naming the second place finisher vice president. Other minor changes came at the state level. An
example being the winner take all system in most states. This... Show more content on

Trust in the election process is key to democracy. Without this there is no peaceful transition of
power, which has been a keystone of the American political system (Wattenburg). One reason for
this doubt is the chance for faithless electors. Faithless electors is an elector who does not cast
their vote for the candidate that won their state ( Faithless Electors ). For example, if an elector
voted for Trump when their state s popular vote was won by Clinton. This means a person casts
their vote for the winning candidate, and the electors in their state do not have to listen to their
vote. Another source of doubt comes from the possibility of electing a minority president. The
2016 election showed the devastating results of electing a minority president. When Trump won
riots erupted across the nation. The biggest ones being in the major cities of Portland, Oakland,
and Los Angeles. In these cities the rioters chanted Not my President (Ansari). They also
vandalized buildings and cars while throwing fireworks, molotov cocktails and other objects at
officers. This led too many rests including 185 arrested in Los Angeles alone (Ansari). If the United
States of America cannot keep the transition of power peaceful our country will fall

History of the Court:
By the end of the first world war, the international community founded the League of Nations, the
first international security organization with the primary goal of maintaining world peace. The
first world war saw drastic increases in mankind s capacity to kill other human beings and cause
insurmountable harm to human society and culture. The human condition was drastically
different. With a new world war on the horizon, the international community had decided to band
together to form a way in which it could help exercise the correct legal disposition and formality
to positively influence the world. An international body was crucial after the first world war in
order to maintain peace and order as the world picked up the pieces from their injustices. This was
also true after the Second world war where the world saw, again, how the cruelties of humanity had
to be prevented in order for the international body to prevent the forming of higher casualty rates
and human suffering. With in Article 14 of the Covenant of the League of Nations, an international

The Environmental Disasters Of The World And Living Things...
What is Missing?
Pollution has plagued the world and living things within it since the industrial revolution and the
development of new technology. While some people might know the effects of the environmental
disasters that have occurred through the years, other do not. Maya Lin created a collaborative
memorial to try to gear people s attention to the problems being faced in the environment. The
collaborative memorial can easily be accessed by anyone who has a computer and internet access.
For example, the BP oil spill affected a great number of living things and marine animals, due to a
human error and the failure to clear up the problem efficiently. Another example is the Flint
Water Crisis that caused innocent children to become deathly sick due to the lack of necessary
chemicals. Another example about pollution is the Great Smog of 1952, which occurred in
London, the smog lasted for five days and killed about 4,000 people. Most of the people that
were affected by the smog were children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems. The
memorial is meant to shine light on the living things that are going extinct around us and how we
as humans have contributed to their extinction. Its purpose is to evoke empathy, better
understanding, guilt, sorrow, and even rage. By creating the memorial, everyone s eyes can be
open to the negative effects that our pollution has caused the world. The memorial also provides
ways people can make a difference in the world where living

The Effects Of Counterfactual Thinking On Students At...
Participants
There were 425 participants that participated in this experimental study. Most of the participants
were friends and family members of the students at Florida International University. Of these, 152
were male (36%) and 273 were female (64%) The age of the sample ranged from 14 to 76 (M =

Caucasian (N = 108), and 3% Asian (N = 13), 1% other (N =6), and .5% Native American (N =2).
Materials and Procedures
In order to examine the effects of counterfactual thinking, we were able to create an online survey
through a server called Qualtrics. In order to find our participants, we recruited friends and family
members through e mail, telephone, and social media. After hearing some initial information about
what the study entailed, the participants who consented to be in the study were given a link to
complete an online survey and then, they were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: the
changeable (C), the unchangeable (UN) and the neutral (N). All surveys contained four main parts:
part one of the survey included the scenario. In the changeable condition, participants read about a

Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter...
It was in the year 1820 in Palmyra, New York that Joseph Smith went into a forest near his house
and prayed to God for the knowledge of what religion he should be apart of. Suddenly God the
Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him giving him the faith that was lost so long ago to
be carried on. He was now given the faith from JesusChrist himself to pass onto others that had
once been lost. Joseph Smith was chosen to restore the Church of Jesus Christ. In the next decade
Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon, based on the golden plates that he said an angel had
given him (Ayers). Then started setting up the Latter day Saints Church. He did this on April 6th,
1830, in New York. Joseph Smith was seen as the leader of the new faith of Mormonism.
Beliefs of the Latter day Saints:
Church: The Latter day Saints believe in a loving, personal God as our heavenly Father. Since
He is the Father of our spirits, all people are His children and thus all people are brothers and
sisters (Mormon Newsroom). The church/organization is led by a prophet which is the
president of the church as well as 2 councilors. In church the leaders do not aspire to church
positions but rather respond to callings . They believe God was once mortal as well as that
Lucifer was Jesus s brother. Therefore one has both a bad side and a good. When being apart of

Winston Churchill Leadership
Oftentimes, the best leaders are those who are willing to step up and face the daunting tasks that
no one else will. As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill s
leadership left a permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would
have lost the war. In the words of John C. Maxwell, Leaders become great not because of their
power, but because of their ability to empower others. Churchill prided himself in having courage
in all things and possessed the unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British
empirethrough battle after battle tirelessly, saying, Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is
the key to unlocking our potential. To him, there was no use saying we are doing our best. You
have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. Although it was almost certain that Britain would
lose World War II, Churchill provided the willpower needed to stand against Germany and
engendered a motivated and hardworking government, as well as an inspired nation.
Winston Churchill s headstrong resiliency in the face of danger defined his career as a war
leader. Former Prime Minister David Cameron states, He was an incredible leader for our country,
and indeed for the whole free world, at an impossibly difficult time. (1). Five months before his
inauguration, Churchill gave his speech House of Many Mansions wherein he urged the then Prime

The Role Of Women In The Arabian Nights
Society s view of women has changed as a result of what they have accomplish to become
relevant inside a man oriented culture. Women are accused of being untrustworthy, due to their
approach of going around the rules. Although this may be true, their limited possibilities push
them to use their cleverness to look for alternatives that will help them reach their goals. The
stories of The Arabian Nights demonstrate that when women are in control of a situation they
must be trusted, as long as they act upon good will. Heroes, kings and presidents, for so long
men are the protagonist of the stories. Across the world and through the centuries, women have
always been situated below men. Women were considered the weak sex, they are portrayed as
delicate, obedient, naive and passionate. Never trust in women; nor rely upon their vows (44). As
the wives of the kings on The Arabian Nights, whose passion brought them to cheat on both their
husbands. They ended up being executed because they threatened the kings power. Or bringing
danger into the families, as the wives of Kasim and Ali Baba, who wouldn t think of the
consequences of their actions and would act by the pure instinct of greed and naiveness. Yet,
seldomly acknowledged, women have had to step up to fix troubled situations, the few stories told
of women of scarce resources who have manage to triumph over the standardized society. This not

Essay about Race and Ethnicity in Social Sciences
Use of the Terms Race and Ethnicity in the Social Sciences
Defining identity can be complex and therefore we have to investigate the factors involved that
make us who we are and how we are seen by others, collectively or individually. Social scientists
have to consider the key elements which shape identity, the importance of social structures and
agency involved. The differences and/or similarities between us are the focus that categorise and
label us in society. Knowing who we are is important for many reasons including, social rights,
obtaining a passport, housing, health, employment, marriage, and over all, being able to ascertain
who we are, and belong.

These subgroup identities highlight the relational factors which exist in categorising identity, each
requiring the other in order to make the comparison between ethnic differences, power and status.
Racialization and Ethnicization are preferred concepts as they contribute more to the idea that the
identities we adopt are part of a process and are not static, referring to a dynamic process rather
than a fixed state.
Categorisations from the 1970 s onwards, such as the definition of black or white , were too vague,
and failed to recognise the specific needs of other ethnic minorities. In order to monitor and measure
statistically the discrimination and underachievement of such groups, collecting ethnic statistics in
relation to race and ethnicity was necessary and these can be found in official government censuses.
Over the years it became apparent that categorisation of ethnic groups in the censuses rendered
some groups invisible (Questioning Identity, ch 4, p 137, section 4.1.1), for example Irish and
Welsh. The category of white has had to be expanded into subcategories as the white grouping

Visual Analysis Of Into The Wild By Ryan Harvey
When I looked through the TCC NW student collection, I got to appreciate a lot of art that I had
never paid attention to before. There were a lot of great pieces, but the first one that really spoke
to me was Into the Wild by Ryan Harvey. This painting, featuring a scared young boy has a very
clear mood and theme, and I feel like there are many meanings that can be taken from it. Ryan
Harvey uses lightand colorto really push his message, and he makes the viewer really feel the
emotionin the painting. From an objective standpoint, there are two main focal points. The first
one is a young boy, maybe 4 years old. He has a blank expression on his face as he looks straight
out into the lens. The boy is the only part... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to tell us very
much. This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Harvey seems to be saying we
are born pure and are corrupted by the world as we grow, but I strongly disagree with this. As we
go on through life, we meet new people and learn new things. Even though there are times where
things can be going downhill, generally people will move up throughout their life, rather than
falling back. Although I don t agree with his message, I can definitely understand where he
comes from. There are some ways in which the blissful ignorance of childhood is better than
knowing the truth, but as you grow you learn to become a part of the world, and whether you
choose to go down the light or the dark path is your own choice to make. In conclusion, Ryan
Harvey s Into the Wild, is a great example of how a picture is worth a thousand words. Harvey
tells us a whole story, of a young boy and his purity along with foreshadowing his inevitable
descent into the gloomy world around him. Into the Wild seems to have a pessimistic viewpoint
on the world, which I personally don t agree with, but the message in itself is powerful; and the
use light and color really do their part in pushing the message, making the viewer really feel the
emotion in the

Political Changes In America
Throughout American history, political campaigns were a great part of the nation. These
campaigns are a successful tool in benefitting the United States by ensuring the best solution;
therefore, eliminating stress for the political party and the people of the U.S. In 1948, article

Many believe that religion is a great factor in the voting process, especially on controversial topics
like abortion and homosexuality, which affects the votes immensely. Moreover, the varieties of
different religions all have contrasting opinions on numerous issues, which then results in many
different conclusions; thus affecting the political votes. Religion, not only is a great aspect in the
voting process today, but was also a tremendous political feature in the nineteenth century. Robert
P. Sweirenga, author of Ethnoreligious Political Behavior in the Mid Nineteenth Century,
promotes that, the most exciting development in American history since the 1960 s is the
recognition that religion was a key variable in voting behavior. In the past time and eras before
the 1960 s, religion was the main element for solving complex issues, which is why religion was
a big part of the political campaigns. Religion has been a part of people s life style for many years;
thus affecting their opinions on controversial topics that are connected with campaigns. In the 1800
s, the church was an influential role in the government and society. Moreover, majority of the
people at this time were extremely religious, including the government party, which greatly affected
the laws of the country and the votes of the campaigns. In 1832, the political party realized that
religion was becoming such a great factor and influence, that they did not allow any Roman
Catholics to be a part of the Executive Council until 1840. Even still, after that date, they majority
of the government were a part of the church, showing that religion has such a major impact on the

Design Proposal Report For Fatigue Monitoring System
Design Proposal Report for
Fatigue Monitoring System (FMS)
By Alvin Kuan, Sarah Fink, Shian Su and Suliman Altaleb
1. Abstract
This paper presents some background briefing, implantation, ethical responsibility, and action plan
of FMS design plan. FMS is a model purposely designed to detect and measure fatigue variables,
i.e., blinking rate, yawning rate and head tilt for fatigue predictions. In addition, FMS will
establish a crude estimate of fatigue and warns the user if a threshold has been exceeded. This
FMS will provide real time measurements of fatigue which, if integrated with good risk
management practice, will result in reduced and controlled recurrence of serious safety incidents.
The focus the project is to understand and appreciate the essential components in designing
successful and commercially viable device. This system employs non invasive electrodes which
are positioned specifically for each of blinking and yawning tests in order to attain
electrocardiogram signals accordingly. FMS is also able to detect head nodding patterns via a gyro
sensor specifically located to monitor axial coordination of head.
1. Background
Fatigue results in an impaired decision making and judgment, slowed reflexes and responses,
absent mindedness, memory lapses etc. Fatigue is often a root cause of major accidents. Fatigue
is believed to be the reason of more than 20% of road fatalities in Victoria Fatigue related accidents
are more likely to result in fatalities

Satirizing News Shows
In recent years, political comedies, especially those satirizing news programs, have risen in
popularity. Shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight, and The Nightly
Show have had a huge impact on mainstream America. Because of their comedic nature, these
shows can get away with addressing taboo topics in opinionated manners. Furthermore, their
audiences are less likely to be defensive because their message is displayed in a humorous way.
Therefore, these programs have a significant amount of power when it comes to influencing the
political sphere. Serious news networks often cover topics that are safe. Reporters try to avoid
controversy by not addressing controversial topics or by removing anything possibly offensive.
Thus, even if touchy topics shown, no revolutionary viewpoints are shared. Satirical news
programs, on the other hand, follow no such guidelines. They can address topics such as
transgender rights, the death penalty, and police brutality. Unlike other reporters, comedians feel no
such need to represent both sides of an argument. In topics like climate change, parody news shows

brings together in one profile the critical information needed to define order picking strategy. It

the same distributions (order mix distributions, lines per order distribution, and lines per order

inbound to your warehouse, and the customer order is outbound from your warehouse. The

Gerard David Virgin And Child With Four Angels
Gerard David created his oil on wood painting Virgin and Child with Four Angels from 1510 to
1515 in Bruges, Netherlands. The piece is currently located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York City and is found in Gallery 640 as part of the museum s collection of European
paintings. Just as the title indicates, the painting s subject is the Blessed Virgin Maryholding her
infant son JesusChrist, the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, while being crowned by
angels. Through the use of formal artistic techniques, David conveys the miraculous and perfect
nature of the Mary, stressing her importance as the Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven in a
realistic and relatable manner.
Throughout the Virgin and Child with Four Angels, David employs the use of color to emphasize
the miraculous nature of the religious subject matter. From the ornate jewels of the crown to the
ruby red color of Mary s gown to the amethyst purple sash of the angel in the upper right, the
application of rich jewel tones induces a sense of royal holiness to figures. Their brightness and
warmth successfully draw the viewer s attention to figures possessing them and generate an
atmospheric serenity to the scene. Additionally, the subtle flushness of the figures ... Show more

of royalty, honor and/or glory. Hence, this symbol represents the glory of Mary as Queen of

Another symbol is in the middle ground of the piece, where a monk is praying in the field by the
stone wall. In Christianity, monks live solemn lives of prayer and service, completely devoted to
spreading the Word of God in the Christian Gospel. Therefore, the monk s presence creates a sense
piety and holiness in the scene, which lends well to the religious

Samuel Moore Walton was conceived in Oklahoma on March 29th 1918. His dad was utilized
differently as a homestead advance appraiser, a land sales representative and protection
businessperson. Walton and his family moved from many different small towns in Missouri as
his dad sought after work. When they at long last settled in Columbia, Missouri, in 1933, Walton
supported the family pay by tackling a few jobs. Notwithstanding his work duties Walton
discovered time to go to class. As a teen, Sam Walton was portrayed by his schoolmates as the
most flexible student in high school. Realizing that anything was conceivable in America, the
adaptable young man carried on with his life taking into account the order that exclusive
standards were the way to everything. As a star quarterback at Hickman High School, an Eagle

Roy Lichtenstein Drowning Girl Essay
Critical Analysis Drowning Girl By Roy Lichtenstein (1963)
A Critical Art Analysis of Roy Lichtenstein s Drowning Girl (1963) Painting
Roy Lichtenstein s Drowning Girl is one of the most renowned pieces of art produced by the
American artist. The painting that was created by the artist in the year 1963 on a 67 5/8 x 66 3/4
canvas is contained in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, and is one of the
most viewed modernistic pieces of art in the museum (MoMA). The Drowning Girl painting

distress of the girl through the words I don t care! I d rather sink than call Brad for help! More

The message of heartbreak in the art is reflected in words contained in the thought bubble and
the tears which reveal that the girl in the picture might have been in a romantic relationship with
a man named Brad, who broke her heart. Even more clearly, the title Drowning girl, adds to the
meaning of the piece of art by suggesting to the viewer that the girl may be drowning in ocean
waves. The maneuver of a girl in distress in the painting further points to the deep interest of Roy
Lichtenstein in the pain that women go through after heartbreaks. Notably, evidence suggests
that as a follower of Picasso, Lichtenstein might have been inspired by the former s frequent use
of images of crying women to paint the Drowning Girl (Schneider 142). Overall, the use of
ocean waves by the author symbolizes distress, as well the vast amount of tears that the
heartbreak might have induced which arouse empathy in the viewer. Although the girl seems to
lie in peace with her head on the water like a pillow, the submergence of the rest of her body in
water appears to communicate her dire need for assistance. Thus, I would say that the piece of art
reminds me of the importance of being considerate of the feelings of fellow humans, especially for
people in romantic

The Characteristics Of A Serial Killer And The Zodiac Killer
In this paper, I will describe who the Zodiac Killer was, but also how a serial killer is different from
a normal homicide suspect. In addition, I will explain if the Zodiac Killer had specific criteria
when he selected his victims and whether a forensic psychologist or criminal profiler provided
input in this case. Finally, I will express my thoughts on why the Zodiac Killerwas never captured
and what else, if anything could have been done to help find the infamous Zodiac Killer.
In order to explain how a serial killer is different than a normal homicide is to first understand
how a serial killer operates. On December 20, 1968, in the sleepy town of Benecia, California the
murders of a teenage couple were discovered in an area called lover s lane off Lake Herman
Road. The victims, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, were shot while parked in their car
around 11:10pm. Investigators collected shell casings and other evidence from the scene, but
after several months they still did not have any witnesses or suspects. Then on July 4, 1969, a
second young couple were attacked by a gunman while in their car parked at Blue Rock Springs
Park in Vallejo; about 10 miles northwest of the Benecia murders. The female victim Darlene
Ferrin died from her wounds, but Michael Mageau who was shot in the leg, neck and jaw survived

Hideki Tojo, one of the worst rulers to live?
Background
Hello, I am former Prime Minister of Japan known as Hideki Tojo. I was a man who was born
December 30, 1884, and lived in a japanese district known as Kojimachi (Wikip). I was one of
three children under my father Hidenori Tojo who was a lieutenant general in the japanese imperial
army. in 1899, I entered the Army Cadet School, worked hard to get a reputation, and ended being
commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the IJA Imperial Japanese Army(Wikipedia). I then married
my lovely wife Katsuko Ito and had seven kids. I had lots of experience in military and politics
as time went on. I was the prime minister of japan from 1941 to 1944 when japan was fighting
the U.S. in world war II. I was promoted in 1934 to the general and chief personnel in the Army
Ministry. In 1940 i became the Minister of war for japan. We could see our country by this time
being just as powerful as the european countries. Hitler, a good friend of mine during WWII,
admired what we were doing with japan, and that we would soon be a superpower. The need for
supplies to further advance our military was needed, so we started advancing through the pacific,

  • 2. Beyond Happiness And Unhappiness Summary In Steven Donoso s essay Beyond Happiness and Unhappiness, Ekhart Tolle makes his views concerning how individuals attempt to establish and define their personality clear. He constantly emphasizes the points that life and Now are one (6) and that we live in a world of mental abstraction, conceptualization, and image making a world of thought (6). Essentially, what Tolle states is that one usually do not have much say in who they are or who they are becoming, people are merely conditioned by external forces such as family and the past, society, technology, and religion to think the way they do and unless they can see the conditioning in themselves they will be unable to get free of it. According to Tolle, one of the biggest influences that help to define who we are is our family. He states that from the moment a parent tells their child their name people s sense of identity... gets bound up with their mental concepts and mental images of I and me (6). In saying this, he is basically saying that we are conditioned as soon as we can identify ourselves with our name because at this point, we have already begun to label ourselves. Along with this, Tolle also explains that as humans we tend to live in the past and in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are surrounded by technology and new inventions every day. At first glance, new inventions may seem to be a positive thing, however, as Tolle says, we eventually see how destructive new inventions can become. His example of this is World War 1, he says that technology and science multiplied the effects of human madness a thousand times (7) he then goes to say that we had to turn our faces away (7). By saying this, Tolle reinforces the idea that we can destroy the planet without realizing what we re doing. The First World War was approached through the conceptualizing mind (7) thus it was reduced and because of this we were able to cause so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Significant Role of the Hippocampus Essay Significant Role of Hippocampus Hippocampus is a small, curved region, which exists in both hemispheres of the brain and plays a vital role in emotions, learning and acquisition of new information. It also contributes majorly to long term memory, which is permanent information stored in the brain. Although long term memory is the last information that can be forgotten, its impairment has become very common nowadays. The dysfunction is exemplified by many neurological disorders such as amnesia. There are two types of amnesia, anterograde and retrograde. Anterograde amnesia is inability in forming new information, while retrograde refers to the loss of the past memory. As suggested by Cipolotti and Bird (2006), hippocampus s lesions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This implies that bilateral and unilateral hippocampus does not contribute majorly to familiarity and recollection of unknown human s faces. Since hippocampus plays an important function in the brain, it has become a great topic for many conducted research not only on human but also animals, specifically primates and rodents. In primate model of amnesia, the experiment is performed through three main tasks delayed nonmatch to sample, object discrimination paradigm and motor skill learning across multiple trials (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In delayed non matching test, both amnesic and intact monkey show nearly same performance rate in remembering objects across delayed in short period of time (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In contrast, amnesic monkeys show a great impairment for longer delayed conditions, hours, in picking the right non matched samples (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). Likewise, in object discrimination task, amnesic monkeys are unable to recognize objects, as compared to control monkeys (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).These tests suggest the importance of hippocampus in acquisition of new information and recollection old events from episodic memory. Additionally, hippocampus also contributes largely to relational representation, as a characteristic of declarative memory (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). This can be shown through odor discrimination and place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Setting in John SteinbeckВґs East of Eden John Steinbeck s, East of Eden, is set in the Salinas Valley, a secluded area of Northern California. The Salinas River runs through this beautiful, yet unforgiving land and provides fertility to the dry land. While the valley has a rich geographical history spanning from sea, to forest, and then to the present day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges form the landscape of the valley that the author uses to exemplify the idea of good and evil. This theme is further outlined by the strong personalities of characters Cathy, Aron, and Cal. Cathy and Aron have opposing dispositions, similarly to Steinbeck s descriptions of the Santa Lucias and the Gabilan mountains. In between the two peaks is the valley, where both good and evil preside. Cal s personality mirrors this setting as he struggles internally between being good and evil for most of his life. Steinbeck s emphasis on dramatic setting correlates directly to the personalities of the main characters in order to outline the theme of conflict between good and evil in East of Eden. Evilness and its conflict with goodness in East of Eden is emphasized in setting by the Santa Lucia Mountains and in character by Cathy Ames. The mountains provoke a sense of fright and terror in Steinbeck as he remarks, The Santa Lucias stood up against the sky to the west and kept the valley from the open sea, and they were dark and brooding unfriendly and dangerous... • 6. Informative Essay On Kelseyton Manning There is a quote that I feel connected very well: The universe is always speaking to us...sending us little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, look around, to believe in something else, something more. In order for us to connect to the world we all have to understand that more than we think is connected, if we think about it everything can be connected in some way. Specifically this essay will ultimately connect NFL superstar Peyton Manningall the way to why the birth cycle we have came to exist. A perfect Sunday afternoon watching the greatest NFL Quarterback in history, Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is probably not only my favorite Quarterback, he won many fans over. Alive anyway. He had already survived two days with his family. His second night in his new home, what could possibly happen? A whispered name. The boy stirs in his sleep. A pale, vaporous moon lights the room. Shadows are deep. He twists his head, turning towards the window so that his face becomes a soft mask, unblemished, colourless. But the boy s dream is troubled; beneath his lids, his eyes dart to and fro. The whispered name: Daniel.... Its sound is distant. The boy frowns; yet the voice is within his own slumber, a ... He twists the handle, the metal s coldness leaping along his arm like iced energy released from a source. The shock is mild against the damp chill of his own body. He pulls the door open and the darkness beyond is more dense; it seems to swell into the bedroom, a waxing shadow. He shrinks away, reluctant to allow contact with this fresh darkness. His vision adjusts, and the inkiness scatters as if weakened by its own sudden growth. He advances again, passing through the doorway to stand shivering on the landing overlooking the staircase. To descend this would be like sinking into the blackest of all pits, for darkness down there appears final. Still the hushed whisper urges: ...Daniel... He listens for a moment more, perhaps wishing that the minor voice would also rouse his sleeping parents. There is no sound from their room; grief has exhausted their bodies as well as their spirit. He stares into the centre of the darkness below, terribly compelled to descend. The fingers of one hand slide against the wall, as he does so, their tips rippling over the textured wall paper. Disbelief mingles with the fascination and the fear. Small lights caught from who knows

Let me first provide a brief summary of the study. (a) The hypothesis is that violent video games cause aggressionin young children. (b) The target population is young children. (c) The samples are young school age children and the sample sizes are sixty children separated into two groups with 30 children being in the experimental group and 30 children being in the control group. Some children may not have any experience playing violent video games at all. (3) The gender of the children would also be a factor because usually boys are more likely to have a predisposition towards aggression than girls. Boys would also more likely have more experience playing certain kinds of video games, especially violent games, where there may be hitting or fighting. Violent video games would possibly affect boys more than girls and there is the possibility that some girls may have no experience or familiarity with violent video games at all. The background conditions of the child s home environment would also contribute to the results garnered from the experiment. A child from a broken, dysfunctional home may have previously exposed to violence and may use violence and aggression as a way of natural expression as opposed to a child from a stable and enriched home environment. The child from a stable home may have a very different upbringing, being taught very early on to have a negative sentiment towards violence and though familiar with video games, may not even have been allowed or exposed to video games of a violent nature. These factors would affect Andersen s findings and therefore need to be controlled in order to obtain an accurate result from the experiment. My analysis reveals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been widely used in power electronics applications. With the exponential advances in CMOS technology tiny thyristor devices can now be easily embedded into conventional nano scale CMOS. This enables the creation of a memory cell technology with features that include small cell size, high performance, reliable device operation, and good scalability. Use of thyristor provides a positive regenerative feedback that results in very large bit cell operation margins. Indium is known to have an acceptor level which is 156 meV above the top of the valence band of silicon. As a result, the fraction of ionized indium atoms increases with temperature, resulting in reduced gain. Two possible thyristor cell structures for memory devices are as follows: 3.1: Thyristor based S RAM: T RAM consists of a thin vertical thyristor with a surrounding MOS gate as the bi stable element and a planar NMOSFET as the access transistor. A novel gate assisted switching mechanism is used in T RAM which enables the thyristor to switch at a high speed and a low voltage level. [5] : Write operation: Both WL1 and WL2 are high. Evaluation Of The Montford Unit Offers Services Following this even further, the Montford unit offers services to admitted patients regardless if they are offenders or general medical issues for individuals. The services that are provided is 550 psychiatric beds, a 48 bed general medical and surgical unit, gardens for the Lubbock food bank, housing stables, and roads located on 120 acres of land (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz, 2004, p. 86). All of these services help offenders because everything is done in house regardless of the issue. They have food, roof of over their head; they can provide assistance to others by helping box up food items for the homeless or low income families. They could also do nontraditional activities such as art therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz, 2004, p. 86). The activities will keep their mind active and thinking constantly. It could even lead to a hobby that can turn into a business. The most important elements to consider for an individual with a mental illness after being released from a mental health care facility is how they reintegrate with their family and receive social support. For example, if the individual is going to live with their family the best thing to do is to assess the families home and living situation, so that the environment is not threatening to them. As the story progresses, she blossoms before the reader, becoming more present in her world where she would otherwise be shuttered in. Her character development is due to the introduction of two very empowering and independent women, acting as female archetypes throughout the novel. Shug, a woman with a fiery personality that ignites inspiration in Celie to further herself as a woman, is the main focal point of the female archetype in this novel. But in reality most of the themes we ve done are based off of movies and TV. At the moment it feels like we focus on videogames because we just released the 8 bit themes album. The Epidemiology, Treatment and Rehabilitation of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture Introduction The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured ligament in the body (Spindler, 2008). Griffin (2005) estimated that around 80 000 to more than 250 000 ACL injuries occur each year. An anterior cruciate ligamentrupture (ACLR) can be a devastating injury to an athlete, as they encounter the possibility of reconstructive surgery alongside extensive months of rehabilitation. Also many athletes are unable to return to their former level of athletic performance within the first postoperative year, with many athletes unable to return to play at all (Panariello, 2015). Epidemiology An ACLR can be caused by many mechanisms with 70% being reported with a noncontact nature and 30% reported with the involvement of contact from an outside force such as an opposing player. Of the non contact mechanisms, common movements involved in an ACLR include cutting movements, landing from a jump with inadequate hip and knee flexion close to full extension (Silvers Mandelbaum, 2011). Female athletes are at a greater risk of ACL injuries when compared to their male counter parts, with a two to tenfold higher incidence rate (Silvers, Mandelbaum, 2011). Females are predisposed to ACL injuries due to intrinsic factors. Compared to males, females have a smaller ACL cross sectional area as well increased quadriceps angle (Sutton, Bullock Montgomery, 2013). However, although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This scenario plays out in the media and in the legislative halls around the country and seems to occur on a much too frequent basis. Has the frequency of mass shootings actually increased? Active shooter statistics released by the F.B.I. reveal a total of 219 incidents that occurred between the years 2000 2016 in which forty three could be considered an inner city by definition ( 2000 ). Research compiled by James Alan Fox shows that the number of mass shootings has averaged twenty per year for the previous thirty years (Domenech). Fox is a criminologist at Northeastern University in Boston. This means that less than twenty percent of all mass shootings occur within inner cities based on the faintest of definitions. Additionally, large cities experience an overwhelming majority of gang violence and criminal activity (Doak). It is estimated that more than half of all homicides in major cities are considered gang related (Whittaker). If you factor out gang activity from mass shootings, the numbers fall even further. Inner cities experience heightened criminal activity in general due to concentrated areas of higher population, but statistical evidence shows that mass shootings occur more frequently in rural and suburban areas. One area that supporters and opponents of gun control agree upon is that mental health issues are contributing to mass shootings. Legislators representing areas that include inner city districts have become very passionate about the issue due in part to deinstitutionalization. The ASD is an early intervention field due to having a relevant obstacle in the research agenda at a pre paradigmatic stage (Kuhn, 1962) which is a stage where practices are informed by competing meta theoretical orientations (e.g., behavioral theory, cognitive theory, and developmental theory) operate in consonance with disparate vocabularies and criteria used for appraising evidence (Ingersoll, 2010; Smith, 2014). • 34. The Environmental Disasters Of The World And Living Things... What is Missing? Pollution has plagued the world and living things within it since the industrial revolution and the development of new technology. While some people might know the effects of the environmental disasters that have occurred through the years, other do not. Maya Lin created a collaborative memorial to try to gear people s attention to the problems being faced in the environment. The collaborative memorial can easily be accessed by anyone who has a computer and internet access. For example, the BP oil spill affected a great number of living things and marine animals, due to a human error and the failure to clear up the problem efficiently. Another example is the Flint Water Crisis that caused innocent children to become deathly sick due to the lack of necessary chemicals. Another example about pollution is the Great Smog of 1952, which occurred in London, the smog lasted for five days and killed about 4,000 people. Most of the people that were affected by the smog were children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems. The memorial is meant to shine light on the living things that are going extinct around us and how we as humans have contributed to their extinction. Its purpose is to evoke empathy, better understanding, guilt, sorrow, and even rage. By creating the memorial, everyone s eyes can be open to the negative effects that our pollution has caused the world. The memorial also provides ways people can make a difference in the world where living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After hearing some initial information about what the study entailed, the participants who consented to be in the study were given a link to complete an online survey and then, they were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: the changeable (C), the unchangeable (UN) and the neutral (N). All surveys contained four main parts: part one of the survey included the scenario. It was in the year 1820 in Palmyra, New York that Joseph Smith went into a forest near his house and prayed to God for the knowledge of what religion he should be apart of. Suddenly God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him giving him the faith that was lost so long ago to be carried on. He was now given the faith from JesusChrist himself to pass onto others that had once been lost. Joseph Smith was chosen to restore the Church of Jesus Christ. In the next decade Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon, based on the golden plates that he said an angel had given him (Ayers). Then started setting up the Latter day Saints Church. He did this on April 6th, 1830, in New York. Joseph Smith was seen as the leader of the new faith of Mormonism. Beliefs of the Latter day Saints: Church: The Latter day Saints believe in a loving, personal God as our heavenly Father. Since He is the Father of our spirits, all people are His children and thus all people are brothers and sisters (Mormon Newsroom). The church/organization is led by a prophet which is the president of the church as well as 2 councilors. In church the leaders do not aspire to church positions but rather respond to callings . As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill s leadership left a permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would have lost the war. In the words of John C. Maxwell, Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. Churchill prided himself in having courage in all things and possessed the unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British empirethrough battle after battle tirelessly, saying, Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential. To him, there was no use saying we are doing our best. You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. Although it was almost certain that Britain would lose World War II, Churchill provided the willpower needed to stand against Germany and engendered a motivated and hardworking government, as well as an inspired nation. Winston Churchill s headstrong resiliency in the face of danger defined his career as a war leader. Women are accused of being untrustworthy, due to their approach of going around the rules. Although this may be true, their limited possibilities push them to use their cleverness to look for alternatives that will help them reach their goals. The stories of The Arabian Nights demonstrate that when women are in control of a situation they must be trusted, as long as they act upon good will. Heroes, kings and presidents, for so long men are the protagonist of the stories. Across the world and through the centuries, women have always been situated below men. Women were considered the weak sex, they are portrayed as delicate, obedient, naive and passionate. Never trust in women; nor rely upon their vows (44). As the wives of the kings on The Arabian Nights, whose passion brought them to cheat on both their husbands. They ended up being executed because they threatened the kings power. Social scientists have to consider the key elements which shape identity, the importance of social structures and agency involved. The differences and/or similarities between us are the focus that categorise and label us in society. These subgroup identities highlight the relational factors which exist in categorising identity, each requiring the other in order to make the comparison between ethnic differences, power and status. Racialization and Ethnicization are preferred concepts as they contribute more to the idea that the identities we adopt are part of a process and are not static, referring to a dynamic process rather than a fixed state. Categorisations from the 1970 s onwards, such as the definition of black or white , were too vague, and failed to recognise the specific needs of other ethnic minorities. In order to monitor and measure statistically the discrimination and underachievement of such groups, collecting ethnic statistics in relation to race and ethnicity was necessary and these can be found in official government censuses. Over the years it became apparent that categorisation of ethnic groups in the censuses rendered some groups invisible (Questioning Identity, ch 4, p 137, section 4.1.1), for example Irish and Welsh. The category of white has had to be expanded into subcategories as the white grouping classification remained singular within the censuses until 2001, and ethnicization of whites was too generalised. ( Questioning Identity: Kath Woodward ch.4 p138 Office of Population Censuses and Surveys, 1991) These amendments show us that there have been changes in ethnic representation and that there is more awareness regarding ethnic identities and ... There were a lot of great pieces, but the first one that really spoke to me was Into the Wild by Ryan Harvey. This painting, featuring a scared young boy has a very clear mood and theme, and I feel like there are many meanings that can be taken from it. Ryan Harvey uses lightand colorto really push his message, and he makes the viewer really feel the emotionin the painting. From an objective standpoint, there are two main focal points. I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to tell us very much. This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Harvey seems to be saying we are born pure and are corrupted by the world as we grow, but I strongly disagree with this. As we go on through life, we meet new people and learn new things. Even though there are times where things can be going downhill, generally people will move up throughout their life, rather than falling back. Although I don t agree with his message, I can definitely understand where he comes from. There are some ways in which the blissful ignorance of childhood is better than knowing the truth, but as you grow you learn to become a part of the world, and whether you choose to go down the light or the dark path is your own choice to make. In conclusion, Ryan Harvey s Into the Wild, is a great example of how a picture is worth a thousand words. Harvey tells us a whole story, of a young boy and his purity along with foreshadowing his inevitable descent into the gloomy world around him. Into the Wild seems to have a pessimistic viewpoint on the world, which I personally don t agree with, but the message in itself is powerful; and the use light and color really do their part in pushing the message, making the viewer really feel the emotion in the ... The message of heartbreak in the art is reflected in words contained in the thought bubble and the tears which reveal that the girl in the picture might have been in a romantic relationship with a man named Brad, who broke her heart. Even more clearly, the title Drowning girl, adds to the meaning of the piece of art by suggesting to the viewer that the girl may be drowning in ocean waves. The maneuver of a girl in distress in the painting further points to the deep interest of Roy Lichtenstein in the pain that women go through after heartbreaks. Notably, evidence suggests that as a follower of Picasso, Lichtenstein might have been inspired by the former s frequent use of images of crying women to paint the Drowning Girl (Schneider 142). Overall, the use of ocean waves by the author symbolizes distress, as well the vast amount of tears that the heartbreak might have induced which arouse empathy in the viewer. Although the girl seems to lie in peace with her head on the water like a pillow, the submergence of the rest of her body in water appears to communicate her dire need for assistance. Thus, I would say that the piece of art reminds me of the importance of being considerate of the feelings of fellow humans, especially for people in romantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was the prime minister of japan from 1941 to 1944 when japan was fighting the U.S. in world war II. I was promoted in 1934 to the general and chief personnel in the Army Ministry. In 1940 i became the Minister of war for japan. We could see our country by this time being just as powerful as the european countries.
