Erich Remarque s Magnum Of All Quiet On The Western Front
The First World War, or the ill named War to End all Wars, was one that brought hell to Earth and
mankind. For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make killing efficient. In static
trenches, young men from around the world were killed by artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and
disease. All nations in the conflict experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their
lives, limbs, or the ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All
Quiet on the Western Front becomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey to the
ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul
Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Germans repel the French, Paul and his company push back, and for a moment, turn from men
to animals. While running and killing Paul illustrates, We have lost all feeling for one another. We can
hardly control ourselves when our glance lights on the form of some other men. We are insensible,
dead men, who through some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run and to kill (Remarque
55). This moment demonstrates the damage that has occurred. Paul already considered himself a dead
man, a men that has lost all humanity. It is this moment that is the first step in the hero s slow demise,
in which he loses all joy and hope. It is impossible for, in the conditions described, to be able to return
home; death becomes the only elixir. Hence, it only takes two more events in his short life for Paul
Baumer to realise this elixir. After the initial French Offensive, Paul is given time to recover, getting
leave and additional training. But, when he returns back to the front, he reaches the climax of the
journey, as he kills a man in close quarters. While on a night expedition into No Man s Land, Baumer
is surprised by a Frenchman, but is able to swiftly recover and, to his understanding, kill him. But in
the morning, Paul is confronted with the truth: Then, he opens his eyes... The body is perfectly still
without a sound, the gurgle has ceased but his eyes cry and yell, all his life gathered together for

Btec Health And Social Care Level 3 Unit 8 P1
Sexually transmitted infections are a very current, modern day health care issue. These infections are
passed during unprotected genital, anal or oral sex. There are sometimes symptoms of the various
infections however there are some infections that can also be symptom free and therefore can go
undetected for quite some time. Young people in the UK typically aged 15 24 have the highest rates of
sexually transmitted infections. There is a link between this age group and those living in
socioeconomically deprived areas, suggesting these particular regions need better and easier access to
healthcare services in order to detect, treat and avoid further spreading and damage caused by the
infections. Raising awareness of the causes of each infection and symptoms is vital. The most
common types of infections are: Chlamydia, Genital herpes and warts, gonorrhea, ... Show more

It can also infect the eyes and rectum. 1 in 10 people have been infected with Chlamydia. It its spread
through vaginal, anal and oral sex and can be passed on to unborn babies. There can be absolutely no
symptoms however if you do have symptoms they can include vaginal bleeding, discharge, pain
passing urine, lower abdominal pains, discharge from the penis and testicle pain. This can be treated
with antibiotics however if untreated can lead to infertility! Genital Herpes is a virus called Herpes
Simplex. It can spread to and from the nose, mouth, fingers and hands. The virus enters the small
cracks of the skin or the soft lining of membranes during sex. Symptoms could be blisters on the
buttocks, thighs feel sore and itchy, general itchy areas. This can be treated with antiviral tablet.
Genital Warts is the most common STI. It is an infection of the genital and anal area with the HPV

Information Centric Networking ( Icn )
Abstract: Information Centric Networking (ICN) is set to replace the current internet architecture
which is based on end to end communication between hosts. The ICN approach to the network of the
future has recently been and is being explored by a number of research projects from Europe and in
the United States. This paper provides a review on four Information Centric Networking (ICN)
architectures based on objects/contents naming, name Resolution and data routing. The review
highlights and briefly describes the naming structures, operation of name resolution and data routing
processes of DONA, PURSUIT, NetInf/MDHT and NDN. A summary in tabular form and a
comparative study of different architectures is given.
Keywords: ICN, Naming of ICN, Name Resolution and Data Routing of ICN.
I. INTRODUCTION
Information centric networking (ICN) is the hot research topic in recent years, with various research
initiatives like DONA [1], CCN/NDN [2][10][16] PSIRP/PURSUIT [3][4][8][11][12], 4WARD [13],
CONVERGENCE[15], NetInf [9], SAIL[17],COMET [5 7][14]), MobilityFirst [18] and ANR
Connect [19] targeting this emerging research area with the aim of shifting from the current Internet
architecture which is built and designed for a host to host communications model. The Internet
architecture today has experienced rapid growth in network traffic of which most of the traffics are
characterized by the content retrieval applications running on top of the Internet architecture. The

Bacterial Meningitis
Bacterial meningitis (BM) is present when bacterial infectious agents invade host defense mechanisms
that usually guard against the brain and spinal cord infection in the subarachnoid space [2].
The most frequent bacteria that cause meningitis quickly are streptococcus pneumonia, Neisseria
meningitis, and Listeria meningitis [9].
As soon as the bacteria gain a way of going into the bloodstream, they are prosperous in preventing
phagocytosis by neutrophils for the reason of the fact of a polysaccharide capsule. Bacteria in a direct
manner move into the meninges as a result of an ear or sinus infection, skull fractures, and surgery [7].
Streptococcus pneumonia is present with infants less than 1 month. For children who are 1 to 3
months, Streptococcus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To avoid the advancement of bacterial meningitis (BM), it is appropriate to know the injury of
bacterial producing meningitis together with its cure will typically rely on four major elements
namely: The age of the patient; the severity of the injury; what organism is generating it and are more
medical settings available? The cure for serious meningitis which is practically ever bacterial but can
also be viral can have need of hospitalization [4].
Also, boys are afflicted more than girls. Many studies have recorded the existence of racial diversity in
the prevalence of Bacterial meningitis. Black and Hispanic populations are 3 to 5 times at higher
uncertainty than Caucasians [5, 6]. Socioeconomic relatively than racially decisive aspects are
answerable for the heightened risk [5]. The Native North American population also has a great rate of
Bacterial meningitis (BM). For instance, over 200/100 000 per year in the global population include

Ocean Surface Current Simulation
OSCURS, or the Ocean Surface Current Simulator, created by Jim Ingraham to improve and cut down
the time needed to calculate and compile necessary data for the ocean currents. The original thought
behind the simulation was to track down varies salmon species and their spawn locations at the North
Pacifics. Fisheries needed more data and analysis to track down the salmons, and the best ways are by
water salinity and temperature. By compiling the data of how the salmons swim along the ocean
currents, it was a job for OSCURS to predict the locations. OSCURS allow oceanography calculations
to be done with speed and high accuracy, which enable more advanced level of techniques of
observing the ocean currents. OSCURS wasn t only useful for the snarks ... Show more content on

Ebbesmeyer raises questions include understanding how do all sorts of drifters ended up separated by
the same categories at different beaches. By now, Ebbesmeyer has a good understanding about
OSCURS and know that it will be the go to program whenever a drifter related question comes up. By
recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that blows upon the drifter, the deflection
angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it possibly can end up or the amount of time it will
require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors
and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can only be so accurate when the programs runs on the
controllable data such as weather, direction of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable
factors like wind and the drifter floating angles can create small differences in the calculation that
leads to errors as well. Because of the glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20
percent quicker than flotsams like shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift
separately on different currents, ending up on different locations. From this spillage, OSCURS showed
Ebbesmeyer an interesting result of how same drifter can still be vary and sort by the ocean currents
even at the slightest matter such as

History Of Taliban And Their War Against Women
The History of Taliban and their War Against Women:
The Taliban emerged as a rebellious movement after the invasion of the soviet troupes in Afghanistan.
Despite the Pakistan and the U.S providing the soviet troupes with adequate military and financial
support, the Mujahedeen were able to inflict massive losses to the foreign troupes. During the wars
between the Mujahedeen and the Soviets, about fifteen thousand soviet soldiers perished as a result of
war inflicted deaths. The soviet troupes left Afghanistan in the year 1979 following a victorious defeat
by the Mujahedeen fighters, and Ahmed Shah Massoud assumed power three years after the soviet s
departure. Ahmed captured Kabul and overpowered President Sayid Mohammed Najibullah s ... Show

casualties as a result of poor and unfair treatments against women. Initially, women enjoyed the
protection of the law under President Sayid s ruling and had increasingly afforded numerous rights

designed it s ruling to an oppressive regime against women and reduced them to nothing following the
new restrictions set by the Taliban regime. Women were denied the right to basic needs such as
healthcare, education, and the right to work. This resulted in them living in extreme poverty and
ultimately depending on men. They were also subjected to emotional and physical tortures such as
forced marriages, sexual assaults, starvations, and pain inflictions. These events sparked

Organizational Management, Leadership, And Leadership
Introduction The group submission for this week is a summary of five topics from Resilient Leaders
that relate to Organizational Management and Leadership. The narrative concludes with three
scriptures that group four feels sum up the responsibilities of a leader.
Five Topics The five topics that group four chose from Resilient Leaders that relate to Organizational
Management and Leadership are selfless service, integrity, leading by example, vision, and traits of
wise leadership.
Selfless Service. Dees (2013) stated, resilient leadership is selfless service over time from a platform
of character and competence. Selfless service (servant leadership) is an important concept to
Organization Management and Leadership. Selfless service is the foundation of servant leadership.
Selfless service is one of the most important traits of a good leader. For an organization to thrive, it is
important for a leader to serve their followers and place their needs before his needs. Servant
leadership has a profound impact on employee empowerment by fostering an environment of
empathy, awareness, healing, listening, stewardship and community awareness (Murari Gupta, 2012).
A selfless service leader can have mediating effects on both public service motivation and corporate
social responsibility that assist the organization from both a community and goal attainment
perspective (Tuan, 2016). Selfless service is serving others without regard for self (Dees, 2013).

Essay On Modern Day Animal Farm
How Is Islamic State a Modern Day Animal Farm?
Although alluding to a completely different nation in a different time period, George Orwell s animals
in Animal Farm also have their similarities with ISIS, a modern day terrorist organization. George
Orwell alluded to Stalin s USSR(Soviet Union) seventy years ago with this work, but similar allusions
can be made to today s ISIS. ISIS is a modern day Animal Farm because Animal Farm s and ISIS s
leader are very similar, they use a certain ideology to make people believe what they say, and certain
similarities are shared between the pigs and ISIS members.
Animal Farm and ISIS s leaders are similar. In Animal Farm s case it is Napoleon, and in ISIS s case it
is Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. Both are very bad people and are selfish and greedy. Both use propaganda to
make people believe what they say. When Napoleon does something on purpose for his own purpose
which is against the commandments, he makes everyone believe that it meant something else and not

makes the animals believe that the changes he made are right. One of the commandment was that

changed commandment to No animal shall drink alcohol to excess. ISIS members and the leader
himself believe he is a caliph. They also believe that when they kill a disbeliever or a non Muslim it is
Jihad. Jihad is a struggle or a strive, it can also mean a holy war. Whoever kills an innocent person it is
as if he as killed all of humanity... (Quran 5:32) ISIS does not follow any of the commandments of
Allah. They are doing the exact opposite of what the Quran says and the opposite of what the Prophet
Muhammad has taught the .This proves that ISIS is a modern day Animal

Defamiliarization In William Carlos Williams s To A Poor...
What do words actually mean? When we are reading, many of us don t actually stop to think about the
meaning of each word (unless the word is unfamiliar), instead we just assume what it means we read
automatically. Looking at the poem, To A Poor Old Woman by William Carlos Williams, we see the
Shklovsky s concept of defamiliarization in use. When we look at Shklovsky s concept, The technique
of art is to make objects unfamiliar to make forms difficult, to increase the difficulty and length of
perception because the process of perception is an aesthetic end in itself and must be prolonged
(Rivkin and Ryan 9). Using this same concept, looking at the first stanza of To a Poor Old Woman, we
see the way that the stanza was structured in a way to make it unfamiliar. The author splits the
sentences up where they normally wouldn t be split up, so that gives that sense of unfamiliarity, so we
begin to question what the words actually mean. If a person attempts to read it as a normal sentence,
we would see that someone is eating a plum, the street is a paper bag, and something is in her hand.
The reason I believe the lines are broken up in a weird way is because it s trying to give that sense of
unfamiliarity to get an audience to focus on what this stanza is really trying to say. Looking at the
second stance, we see the repetition of They taste good to her written in different forms. This
repetition gives an unfamiliar sense because each time it repeats, it gives off

Charlemagne Or Charles The Great
Charlemagne or Charles the Great, (747 814) was one of the most significant people during the
Middle Ages, playing a key role in defining the shape and character of Medieval Europe. Considered
the Father of Europe , Charlemagne reigned as King of the Franks (768 814) and became the first
Holy Roman Emperor (800 814). He created a great empire as he dramatically expanded the Frankish
Kingdom in a series of conquests that united most of Western Europe for the first time since the
Roman Empire. He also introduced many governmental, cultural and economic reforms to further his
great Carolingian Empire. Additionally the Emperor fostered the Carolingian renaissance, a time of
great cultural and intellectual revival and reinforced the Christian foothold on Europe.
Charlemagne s role in Medieval Europe was as a complete leader and emperor, one that effectively
managed every aspect of his empire. As King of the Franks, Charlemagne played the role of a warrior
king, constantly engaged in warfare and through his conquests he no longer ruled a Kingdom but a
veritable empire. When the fall of the Roman Empire led to its dissolution in Western Europe, it
caused a fragmented collection of Kingdoms. As Charlemagne united these fragments he needed to
reconstruct the structures of a complex society and maintain unity within his realm, which was
complicated by the differences between his people. Due to this, Charlemagne s role was as an
effective administrator, and he instituted many

Comparing Schoolsville, By Billy Collins And Carol Ann Duffy
Poets Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy educate the public on the student teacher relationship. In
Billy Collins Schoolsville the poem is written from the point of view of a teacher, whereas Carol Ann
Duffy s teacher is written in a student s point of view. The two poets have completely different ideas
of what the school atmosphere is like. For Bill Collins he believes that the teacher holds the role of a
mayor and the students are citizens who all belong to different social classes. As for Carol Ann Duffy,
she believes that students warship teachers because the teacher is the reason for a student s knowledge.
Although the poets do share different opinions they both use poetic devices to develop their phones.
Therefore the poetic devices used are the only common ground the poets have. In schools Billy
Collins presents the idea that the students are categorized by their grades. For example the a students

Carol Ann Duffy uses it to glorify the life as a teacher whereas Billy Collins uses it to make teaching
sound on intolerable. Duffy says when you teach me your hands bless the air. This makes a teacher
sound very heroic as if she s doing the most. As for Billy Collins he makes teaching seem as if it is a
chore by saying sometimes one will appear in a window paper to watch me lecturing the wall paper.
Great poets often differ in opinions but they both know that using poetic devices can build their poem.
Using both metaphors and personification is what led to the development of both poems. Billy Collins
is metaphor of being the mayor and him. Personified the paper is what led to the detection of him
disliking teaching. The same goes for Carolyn Duffy and her metaphor and use metaphors of
personification in making teacher sound holy. The use of poetic devices often leads to the
development of great poems and that becomes clear when they are the chief elements into totally
different

Cross Giblin Rosetta Stone Summary
I think that the author of this story, Cross Giblin, was very effective in explaining details in the
sequence of translating the Rosetta stone. In chapter one of the story he uses dates to tell the beginning
of the story. For example near the entrance to the long, high ceilinged room stand twomagnificent
granite statues of Pharaoh Amenophis III, who ruled Egypt about 1400 B.C. Farther on is a colossal
head of Pharaoh Ramesses II dating back to 1250 B.C. And beyond it, resting on a simple base, is a
slab of black basalt, a volcanic rock. This is very beneficial because it lets us know where the Rosetta
stone originated from. He also goes on to explain that no one knew how to read hieroglyphics at the
time of the discovery. He tells us that many tried but did not succeed. He also tells us that the Greeks
decided to add some of their own definitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also uses dates in this chapter to set a timeline. He tells us on July 1, 1798, the city of Alexandria
was captured by Napoleon s army, also overrunning the Nile Delta. He also adds that on July 21
Napoleon entered the Egyptian capital. In this chapter he also tells us that the Greek part of the stone
had been translated. After the Greek passage had been translated, the scholars turned their attention to
the Egyptian writing on the slab. First they studied the hieroglyphs. Then they puzzled over the second
script. They had seen examples of it before on rolls of papyrus, the writing material the Egyptians
used instead of paper.Deciding that it was a simpler form of Egyptian writing, the scholars called it
demotic, meaning of the people. This chapter also tells us that the scholars got to keep the

Conrad in Under Western Eyes outlines the Russian Revolution. However, readers can further their
knowledge on the topics in the book. During the 19th century, Russia was ruled by autocrats, or czars,
who ruled with absolute power. Their individual philosophies affected the history and culture of the
vast empire (Merri et al.). The first ruler of Russia at this time was Alexander I. He came to power in
1801 during the Napoleonic Wars, between France and shifting alliances of other European powers (
Alexander I ). However, he died and Decembrist revolts followed as people argued of his successor
(Merri et al.). His brother, Czar Nicholas, then will come into power. However, the Russians revolt
against him because of harsh treatment and his constant want for more power. This forms a
revolutionary movement. He tried to conserve his power by restricting education so that revolutionary
ideas would not spread (Merri et al.). These are events for the story behind Under Western Eyes. The
book demonstrates not just the revolution, but regular Russian who rely on the revolutionaries to
achieve a complete change in the government and form a new outlook on life (Russian Revolution of
1917). There are starving young men in Russia who believe in you (Peter Ivanovitch, a revolutionist)
so much that it seems the only thing that keeps them alive is their misery (Conrad 217). Truly there are
millions of people who would envy the life of dogs in this country. It is horror and a shame to confess
this even between ourselves. One must believe for very pity. This can t go on. No! It Can t go on...
(Conrad 235). Theses statement support how Russian people felt during this period and helps illustrate
emotions upon readers. In addition to how typical Russians feel, these statements also show reasons
behind the ways Revolutionaries felt. No one is born an active revolutionist. The Change comes
disturbingly,

What Is Racism In Huck Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is one of the most controversial books in
American literature. Many students, parents, and teachers have been offended by this novel being a
mandatory reading in high school. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be a mandatory
reading for all juniors at Lake Oswego High School because of its historical context and important
insight into racism at the time period. The use of pejorative language throughout the novel is
polarizing due to the fact that many are offended by the words used, but others accept because of the
historical context. The n word is used a total of 219 times in Huck Finn. Many find the use of the word

Interpersonal racism is when someone has racist ideas instilled in their mind. It is nearly impossible
not to have any interpersonal racism in some form. An example would be having a new black kid at
school and the fact that he is black is the first thing that comes to mind. Interpersonal racism comes
largely from institutional racism. It mostly means when the government fails to provide appropriate
conditions for criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power, and education.
Institutional racism was at an all time high during the time period of Huck Finn. If you were an
African American, you were either a slave, or a free person with little to no chance at success in
America. Racism at the institutional level is a major contributing factor to interpersonal racism. How
the government treats a certain group makes you feel like that is okay but you do not really know why.
The ideas of racism have been instilled in everyone s mind forever and the government does that
change anything by treating African Americans like property when Huck Finn takes place. The
character of Huck Finn shows interpersonal racism throughout the novel because it was socially
acceptable to be racist to African Americans because most of them were slaves at the time. An
example of this is when Huck was confused that Jim was not as stupid as he thought Well, he was
right; he was most always right; he had

John Locke On Land Violation Of Labour
Hardin states that a finite world can support only a finite population; therefore population growth must
eventually equal zero (1243). Currently we live in a finite world with finite resources but use them as
though they are not. With the world population growing exponentially, one must contemplate the
potential of largescale resource loss. With Locke placing the greatest value of property on the labour
put into it and being absolutely essential for liberty then this has to give some form of responsibility to
whoever has placed labour on to the area. Before labour has enhanced the quality of a land making it
more productive it is essentially a natural waste land. Therefore if you have enhanced the land with
your labour then it is your responsibility to make sure it is always productive and kept at this enhanced
level. This is to insure that this natural land is not wasted or spoilt. Locke strongly opposes waste or
spoiling Nothing was made by God for man to spoil or destroy (31). The concept that the wasting of
property is a violation of natural law implies one who earns property accepts some responsibilities for
it. He was only to look that he used them before they spoiled, else he took more than his share, and
robbed others (46).You only have what you need and it is within your natural right to leave enough

Authority in Portnoy s Complaint by Philip Roth Essay

Parental styles are also the basis for the child s self perception. Parents with a high controlling and low
responsive pattern are labeled authoritarian. The Portnoy s offered little feedback as to why they were
disappointed in him, leaving Alex more confused when he was relentlessly punished for letting down
his mother. He recognized the severity of his mother s expectations for him. He had overheard her tell
her friends that he is suddenly such a bad eater I have to stand over him with a knife. Such an extreme
statement justified Alex s decision to keep normal adolescent milestones, like his fondness for
masturbation, away from his mother s judgment. This added to his shame and he continued to hide his
new obsession, making his mother more suspicious. With little understanding of a child s mind, she
unwittingly turned Alex into her greatest nemesis, constantly battling for control in what could have
been a stable relationship.
While his mother laid the groundwork for Alex s dysfunction, his father provided a look at the life he
did not want. He saw that

Carl Sanburg Grass Analysis
Most times, it s just a lot easier not to let the world know what s wrong. says Chuck Palahniuk, and
American Author. Covering things up is one thing that humanity has officially mastered. Humanity
constantly fights, kills, and commits horrid acts; sometimes even for no good reason at all. But who is
the one that will always be there to cover it up? Well, in Carl Sanburg s poem Grass , that who is the
grass itself. It becomes clear that no human can cover up his or her own mistakes, so the grass has to
be the one to do the dirty work. Carl Sanburg, in his poem Grass , uses proper nouns, syntax, and
imperative tense to prove that humanity will repeatedly try to destroy itself, and the grass will always
hold the power to cover it up. Bunker Hill, Yorktown, and Normandy are all great battles in American
history, and they are also distinguished choices for proper nouns when trying to prove the point of
human destruction. However, Sanburg didn t use these proper nouns. He wrote about Austerlitz ,
Waterloo , Gettysburg , Ypres , and Verdun . (1, 3, 4, 5) While Gettysburg was a pivotal point in
American history, it was not chosen in this text for the size of the battle, but rather for the number of
casualties and for the amount of blood spilled on the battlefield. In fact, all of these battles were
chosen for this same reason. But why would an author choose battles with more casualties over battles
that are better known for a massive victory, or even a massive loss? This

Mozart And Beethoven s Musical Origins
Haydn began his musical career as a choirboy in Vienna up until the age of 17. Mozart and Beethoven
s musical origins are similar, both coming from families with musical backgrounds. Mozart s father
taught him and his sister before taking them to tour throughout Europe. Beethoven also studied with
his father before receiving his study abroad opportunity in Vienna in 1792. After serving as a choirboy,
Haydn found himself in need of a means to make a living. He was barely able to support himself as a
freelance musician. Haydn s first serious position occurred around 1757 when he became music
director for Count Morzin. It was also around this time that Haydn began to write some of his first
symphonies. Most of Haydn s earlier symphonies were three movement works (fast slow fast),
somewhat like the Italian opera overture. Other symphonies were four movement works arranged
much like a sonata de chiesa. In 1761, Haydn began working for the Esterházy princes, spending
nearly 30 years at the Esterházy court. He composed at every wish of the Esterházy princes; any work
they demanded. Haydn s duties included conducting, training, and supervising all musicians, and
maintaining instruments. He built an orchestra of 25 players His time at Eszterhaza really influenced
the success of his career; Haydn got to hear his work in excellent performances. Because Esterhaza
was so isolated, vsitors would often keep him in the loop about music events in other locations. Haydn

The, Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose
Set in the 1950 s post depression America and written by world renowned playwright Reginald Rose,
Twelve Angry Men has become a much loved classic within the drama playwright genre. With an
abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play, Rose has
pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first published. The two
main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were prejudices and stereotypes.
These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key literary devices; structure, setting
and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names are not listed in the structure, the
characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this is to prevent the audience from
developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the window. The 12th Juror looks at him
for a moment then moves away , (pg. 4). This decision also puts the audience in a similar position to
which the jurors are in; making a decision on facts provided without any bias. Act one of the play is
set in America after the abolishment of slavery, yet racism was still extremely prevalent and widely
accepted throughout the country. This certain prejudicial issue is highlighted in many key scenes
during the play. The 10th Juror is a perfect example of how the setting affects the play and depicts the
themes of prejudices and stereotypes; Brother, you can say that again. The kids who crawl outa those

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Comparison
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream was originally
written by Hunter S. Thompson in 1971. This classic novel showcases a stoned sportswriter, Raoul
Duke, who also refers to his own ego as Dr. Gonzo . Duke travels to Las Vegas with his fellow
Samoan attorney to cover a motorcycle race on the outskirts of Las Vegas called the Mint 400. After a
series of reckless events, Raoul and his companion finally make their way to the city. Once there, they
find themselves stirring up a great deal of trouble and receive a heap of public attention due to their
erratic, drug induced behaviors. The novel intrigued readers so much that, in 1998, Terry Gilliam
transformed Thompson s work of art into a movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, it seems as if Gilliam s focus was more on entertaining his audiences through the
characters comical annotations and side effects of the hallucinogens rather than illustrating Thompson
s own idea of the American Dream.
While there were a few key differences between the book and film editions of Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas, as mentioned previously, the film shares mostly similarities with Thompson s original
novel. In fact, the entire first half of the movie remains remarkably faithful to the book s plot. Most of
the differences in Gilliam s film mentioned earlier occurred around the second half of the movie after
Raoul and his attorney had made their way across the long route in the desert. The location, the
description of the setting, additional characters, drugs, and the car used in the initial scenes were all
identical to those in the novel. For example, the drugs that Duke and his attorney were using in the
book consisted of ether, blotter acid, marijuana ( grass ), cocaine, mescaline, amyl, and prescription
pills; these same drugs were used by the characters in Gilliam s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as
well.
Likewise, the lines spoken by the characters in Terry Gilliam s film were almost matching to those in
Thompson s original Fear and Loathing

Vertical Integration Research Paper
Vertical integration is when a company has control of more than one stage of the supply chain. This
type of manufacturing strategy has various advantages, including the fact that they get more control
over the value chain. This includes control over production aspect of their distribution process and
how much they would sell them on the market. They also get cost control in a way that they don t
have to buy supplies or production resources so that they can focus on their product and their
customers. Vertical integration allows a company to increase their advantages over their competitors
and block them from gaining access to resources or important markets. An example of this is when a

Analysis of Major Themes in Chomsky s Manufacturing Consent
As a society, us Americans tend to put stock in varied forms of mass media. From Disney to Gannett
we grow up with selective views of the world and shaped opinions based on TV ratings. There are
many theories on hegemony in American society. Dr. Noam Chomsky, a preeminent authority in 20th
century political philosophy, discusses how news media is a tool for disseminating propaganda
provided by the powerful elite in his book Manufacturing Consent. He discusses how American mass
media is a tool of democracy to placate the majority of the populous and encourage compliance
without overt use of force. He makes several major points throughout his book. Chomsky discusses
how propaganda is necessary to the functioning of our democracy similar to how other types of
government either overtly or covertly enforce support among their regime. He makes the point that
our media and news outlets are inescapably tied to the political machine. Most importantly, he
discusses what he calls the propaganda model of the media. The propaganda model of the media
argues that media falls under five different filters. These filters describe how the media is controlled
and influenced. The first filter consists of the size of the corporation, owner wealth, and profit
orientation of the company. The second comes in the form of advertising as the primary source of
income for

Acceptable And Unacceptable Behavior When Using Company...
Acceptable Use Policy An acceptable use policy (AUP) is a document that a user has to agree to in
order to access the Internet or a corporate network (Rouse, 2014). AUPs outline what is acceptable
and unacceptable behavior when using company computer and network systems. An acceptable use
policy also outlines the disciplinary actions that will take place when someone violates the policy.
Because the disciplinary process could lead to termination, the policy must be clear and concise
(Johnson Merkow, 2011, p. 38) . An acceptable use policy creates a legal separation between the
employer and the employee (Johnson Merkow, 2011, p. 38). When you sign up with an Internet
service provider (ISP) like AT T, you ll usually be presented with an AUP, which states that you agree
to adhere to certain stipulations. The stipulations include not using the service as part of violating any
law, not attempting to break the security of any computer network or user, not posting commercial
messages to Usenet groups without prior permission, not attempting to send junk e mail or spam to
anyone who doesn t want to receive it, and not attempting to mail bomb a site with mass amounts of e
mail in order to flood their server (Rouse, 2014). The purpose of the AT T acceptable use policy is to
ensure that customers can use the network and the Internet without interference or harassment from
other users. AT T is at all times committed to complying with the laws and regulations governing use

Before taking this course and reading the material I was shockingly and embarrassingly unaware that
defined theories existed to explain addiction. I knew from job practice, that people contributed
addiction to a multitude of causes ranging from habit, personal choice, trauma, sickness, and so forth.
Yet, unaware of the developed theories that explained a perspective towards addiction with outlined
causes and treatments to follow in practice. Reading this material gave an educational base to my

The Scottsboro Trials And Racial Prejudice
Can racial bias have an effect on the verdict of being guilty or innocent? The American judicial
courtroom has been comprised of the nation s many greatest racial discriminatory cases over the past
century, but the most racially upstanding case, when referring to Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird
includes The Scottsboro Trials. Both stories uprise in the 1930s, displaying a white supremacist
mindset, which two cases fall into the conviction of rape. The Scottsboro case started on a train to
northern Alabama to southern Tennessee, when nine African American boys, ranging in ages from 13
19, allegedly raped two innocent Caucasian women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Racial
discrimination uprises in American judicial system when shown in To Kill a Mockingbird and The
Scottsboro Trials through the racial prejudice within the jury in the courtroom, easy accessibility to
target African Americans, biased accusations, as well as the social pressure to serve in one s defense.
According to American history, prejudice is shown through the courtroom s jury when making
decisions to send the alleged African Americans to jail. On March 24, 1931, nine African American
lives were jeopardized with the false accusations of rape that further scrutinizes the nation s
controversial look upon justice. Referring to Abigail Thernson and Henry Fetter when talking about
The Scottsboro Trials it states, Represented by unprepared out of date counsel who had no more than a

Human Evolution Essay
Human Evolution
Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of
the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000
years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be.
Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a
society as to where we came from.
The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be,
is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all
research in that field. Humans have undergone many different changes during the last hundred ...

We share almost 99 percent of our genetic material with chimpanzees. Yet we have several traits that
are very different. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major
hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a
specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can
be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae.
Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and
complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and
91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The
increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other
artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain
size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool
making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in
a variety of environments.
The earliest hominine fossils show evidence of marked differences in body size, which may reflect a
pattern of the different sexes in our early ancestors. The bones suggest that females may have been 3

decided not to leave her old house and began to develop a series of behaviors that can lead the reader

frightened the town s people were of her, and the individual parts of the story begin to fit and come

property with Miss Emily all these years, leaves the house and disappears. This seems odd because he
is the only one who knows the true story about what happened inside that house; and probably he is
the only one who could be helpful for her at some time in her life. As soon as Emily died he allows the

Key Factors Of JIT Strategy
3.0 Key factors of JIT Strategy
In order to implement a good strategy for the company, the company should concentrate on the key
factors that can affect the result of the strategy that implemented. Thus, the most important factors for
successful implementation of the JIT strategy are top management commitment, reduction of setup
time and preventive maintenance scheduling of the company.
3.1 Top management commitment
In order to implement a better strategy in a company, one of the important factors that need to be a
concern is the commitment of top management. It is significant to cognize that the top management is
seriously dedicated. Top management must create and hold a series of principles and regulations,
statements must state its commitment to JIT procurement, production, distribution strategy which

An Error Residual Generator for Fault Detection and Isolation in a Data Acquisition System Used For
Carbon Mono Oxide Nitrogen Oxide Monitoring
Abstract clean air is a basic necessity for all human beings living on earth, yet about 80% of world s
population breathes air that has pollutants which exceed the World Health Organization s
recommended level. Environmental air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of
constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global warming and acid rains. To avoid such
adverse imbalances in nature, an air pollution measuring system is of utmost importance. This paper
presents fault detection and isolative model implemented in a novel fault tolerant microcontroller
based data acquisition system design for air pollutant concentration measurement in industrial
facilities in Nigeria. A supervisory control unit was incorporated in the data acquisition system design
in an attempt at robust control. The model utilizes weighted standard deviation /data variance method
to detect anomalies and correlation in measured data, with a view to data intelligence elicitation, an
error residual generator was designed to handle fault isolation and accommodation. The overall system
implements corrective procedures in the event of a fault or failure with appropriate indicators showing

Do Animals Use Some Properties of Human Language
Are there special properties of human language or can they be found in the communication systems of
other creatures? Philip Tweedle
This essay will discuss whether six of Hockett s design features, which are properties of language, are
exclusively human or can they be found in other creatures communications. For each of the features,
the communication of wild apes, trained apes and humans will be compared. This will not be based
solely on vocal communication, but explore the research into signing and pointing apes (apes using
symbols on a keyboard, Aitchison, 2008). The first reason to discuss this, is because human language
is not restricted to vocal communication: we can use sign language and the written word. The second

The pointing method is not subject to rapid fade because the keyboard is connected to a computer and
the typed information is stored in the computer s memory. For the purposes of the experiment with
Lana, all the sequences she wrote were stored for the ease of collating and analysing data at the end of
the experiment.
The fifth feature to compare is reciprocity. This is where any sender of a language signal could also be
the receiver, and features in both human and apes. Communication is only truly reciprocal when the
receiver knows the language used by the sender: if an Englishman shouted to Frenchman the receiver
would not be able to understand the message and therefore would not be able to respond to the
original call. In the case of the trained chimps, Lana who used pictograms on a screen, would not be
able to communicate with Washoe, who was trained with signs.
The sixth design feature, and maybe the most important, is Prevarication: the ability to lie and deceive.
This shows a deliberate intent and intelligence, and is found in both humans and apes in the wild, but
not in the signing and pointing chimps. The ability to deceive in wild apes is found within the social
context in which they live for example: juvenile baboons have been reported effectively to use a

  • 2. Erich Remarque s Magnum Of All Quiet On The Western Front The First World War, or the ill named War to End all Wars, was one that brought hell to Earth and mankind. For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make killing efficient. In static trenches, young men from around the world were killed by artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and disease. All nations in the conflict experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their lives, limbs, or the ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All Quiet on the Western Front becomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey to the ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Germans repel the French, Paul and his company push back, and for a moment, turn from men to animals. While running and killing Paul illustrates, We have lost all feeling for one another. We can hardly control ourselves when our glance lights on the form of some other men. We are insensible, dead men, who through some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run and to kill (Remarque 55). This moment demonstrates the damage that has occurred. Paul already considered himself a dead man, a men that has lost all humanity. It is this moment that is the first step in the hero s slow demise, in which he loses all joy and hope. It is impossible for, in the conditions described, to be able to return home; death becomes the only elixir. Hence, it only takes two more events in his short life for Paul Baumer to realise this elixir. After the initial French Offensive, Paul is given time to recover, getting leave and additional training. But, when he returns back to the front, he reaches the climax of the journey, as he kills a man in close quarters. While on a night expedition into No Man s Land, Baumer is surprised by a Frenchman, but is able to swiftly recover and, to his understanding, kill him. But in the morning, Paul is confronted with the truth: Then, he opens his eyes... Bacterial Meningitis Bacterial meningitis (BM) is present when bacterial infectious agents invade host defense mechanisms that usually guard against the brain and spinal cord infection in the subarachnoid space [2]. The most frequent bacteria that cause meningitis quickly are streptococcus pneumonia, Neisseria meningitis, and Listeria meningitis [9]. As soon as the bacteria gain a way of going into the bloodstream, they are prosperous in preventing phagocytosis by neutrophils for the reason of the fact of a polysaccharide capsule. • 6. Ocean Surface Current Simulation OSCURS, or the Ocean Surface Current Simulator, created by Jim Ingraham to improve and cut down the time needed to calculate and compile necessary data for the ocean currents. The original thought behind the simulation was to track down varies salmon species and their spawn locations at the North Pacifics. Fisheries needed more data and analysis to track down the salmons, and the best ways are by water salinity and temperature. By compiling the data of how the salmons swim along the ocean currents, it was a job for OSCURS to predict the locations. OSCURS allow oceanography calculations to be done with speed and high accuracy, which enable more advanced level of techniques of observing the ocean currents. Ebbesmeyer raises questions include understanding how do all sorts of drifters ended up separated by the same categories at different beaches. By now, Ebbesmeyer has a good understanding about OSCURS and know that it will be the go to program whenever a drifter related question comes up. By recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that blows upon the drifter, the deflection angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it possibly can end up or the amount of time it will require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can only be so accurate when the programs runs on the controllable data such as weather, direction of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable factors like wind and the drifter floating angles can create small differences in the calculation that leads to errors as well. Because of the glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20 percent quicker than flotsams like shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift separately on different currents, ending up on different locations. From this spillage, OSCURS showed Ebbesmeyer an interesting result of how same drifter can still be vary and sort by the ocean currents even at the slightest matter such as ... In the early 1920s, the Afghan constitution provided gender equality, and women enjoyed all human rights including the right to vote. Taliban designed it s ruling to an oppressive regime against women and reduced them to nothing following the new restrictions set by the Taliban regime. Women were denied the right to basic needs such as healthcare, education, and the right to work. This resulted in them living in extreme poverty and ultimately depending on men. They were also subjected to emotional and physical tortures such as forced marriages, sexual assaults, starvations, and pain inflictions. These events sparked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organizational Management, Leadership, And Leadership Introduction The group submission for this week is a summary of five topics from Resilient Leaders that relate to Organizational Management and Leadership. Selfless Service. Dees (2013) stated, resilient leadership is selfless service over time from a platform of character and competence. Selfless service (servant leadership) is an important concept to Organization Management and Leadership. Selfless service is the foundation of servant leadership. Selfless service is one of the most important traits of a good leader. For an organization to thrive, it is important for a leader to serve their followers and place their needs before his needs. Servant leadership has a profound impact on employee empowerment by fostering an environment of empathy, awareness, healing, listening, stewardship and community awareness (Murari Gupta, 2012). A selfless service leader can have mediating effects on both public service motivation and corporate social responsibility that assist the organization from both a community and goal attainment perspective (Tuan, 2016). • 10. Essay On Modern Day Animal Farm How Is Islamic State a Modern Day Animal Farm? Although alluding to a completely different nation in a different time period, George Orwell s animals in Animal Farm also have their similarities with ISIS, a modern day terrorist organization. George Orwell alluded to Stalin s USSR(Soviet Union) seventy years ago with this work, but similar allusions can be made to today s ISIS. ISIS is a modern day Animal Farm because Animal Farm s and ISIS s leader are very similar, they use a certain ideology to make people believe what they say, and certain similarities are shared between the pigs and ISIS members. Animal Farm and ISIS s leaders are similar. In Animal Farm s case it is Napoleon, and in ISIS s case it is Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. Both are very bad people and are selfish and greedy. • 11. Defamiliarization In William Carlos Williams s To A Poor... What do words actually mean? When we are reading, many of us don t actually stop to think about the meaning of each word (unless the word is unfamiliar), instead we just assume what it means we read automatically. Looking at the poem, To A Poor Old Woman by William Carlos Williams, we see the Shklovsky s concept of defamiliarization in use. When we look at Shklovsky s concept, The technique of art is to make objects unfamiliar to make forms difficult, to increase the difficulty and length of perception because the process of perception is an aesthetic end in itself and must be prolonged (Rivkin and Ryan 9). Using this same concept, looking at the first stanza of To a Poor Old Woman, we see the way that the stanza was structured in a way to make it unfamiliar. The author splits the sentences up where they normally wouldn t be split up, so that gives that sense of unfamiliarity, so we begin to question what the words actually mean. If a person attempts to read it as a normal sentence, we would see that someone is eating a plum, the street is a paper bag, and something is in her hand. The reason I believe the lines are broken up in a weird way is because it s trying to give that sense of unfamiliarity to get an audience to focus on what this stanza is really trying to say. Looking at the second stance, we see the repetition of They taste good to her written in different forms. This repetition gives an unfamiliar sense because each time it repeats, it gives off ... • 12. Charlemagne Or Charles The Great Charlemagne or Charles the Great, (747 814) was one of the most significant people during the Middle Ages, playing a key role in defining the shape and character of Medieval Europe. Considered the Father of Europe , Charlemagne reigned as King of the Franks (768 814) and became the first Holy Roman Emperor (800 814). He created a great empire as he dramatically expanded the Frankish Kingdom in a series of conquests that united most of Western Europe for the first time since the Roman Empire. He also introduced many governmental, cultural and economic reforms to further his great Carolingian Empire. Additionally the Emperor fostered the Carolingian renaissance, a time of great cultural and intellectual revival and reinforced the Christian foothold on Europe. Charlemagne s role in Medieval Europe was as a complete leader and emperor, one that effectively managed every aspect of his empire. As King of the Franks, Charlemagne played the role of a warrior king, constantly engaged in warfare and through his conquests he no longer ruled a Kingdom but a veritable empire. When the fall of the Roman Empire led to its dissolution in Western Europe, it caused a fragmented collection of Kingdoms. As Charlemagne united these fragments he needed to reconstruct the structures of a complex society and maintain unity within his realm, which was complicated by the differences between his people. Due to this, Charlemagne s role was as an effective administrator, and he instituted many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Comparing Schoolsville, By Billy Collins And Carol Ann Duffy Poets Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy educate the public on the student teacher relationship. In Billy Collins Schoolsville the poem is written from the point of view of a teacher, whereas Carol Ann Duffy s teacher is written in a student s point of view. The two poets have completely different ideas of what the school atmosphere is like. For Bill Collins he believes that the teacher holds the role of a mayor and the students are citizens who all belong to different social classes. As for Carol Ann Duffy, she believes that students warship teachers because the teacher is the reason for a student s knowledge. Although the poets do share different opinions they both use poetic devices to develop their phones. Therefore the poetic devices used are the only common ground the poets have. In schools Billy Collins presents the idea that the students are categorized by their grades. For example the a students hanging out with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Great poets often differ in opinions but they both know that using poetic devices can build their poem. Using both metaphors and personification is what led to the development of both poems. Billy Collins is metaphor of being the mayor and him. Personified the paper is what led to the detection of him disliking teaching. • 14. Cross Giblin Rosetta Stone Summary I think that the author of this story, Cross Giblin, was very effective in explaining details in the sequence of translating the Rosetta stone. In chapter one of the story he uses dates to tell the beginning of the story. For example near the entrance to the long, high ceilinged room stand twomagnificent granite statues of Pharaoh Amenophis III, who ruled Egypt about 1400 B.C. Farther on is a colossal head of Pharaoh Ramesses II dating back to 1250 B.C. And beyond it, resting on a simple base, is a slab of black basalt, a volcanic rock. This is very beneficial because it lets us know where the Rosetta stone originated from. He also goes on to explain that no one knew how to read hieroglyphics at the time of the discovery. He tells us that many tried but did not succeed. He also tells us that the Greeks decided to add some of their own definitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the Greek passage had been translated, the scholars turned their attention to the Egyptian writing on the slab. First they studied the hieroglyphs. Then they puzzled over the second script. During the 19th century, Russia was ruled by autocrats, or czars, who ruled with absolute power. Their individual philosophies affected the history and culture of the vast empire (Merri et al.). The first ruler of Russia at this time was Alexander I. He came to power in 1801 during the Napoleonic Wars, between France and shifting alliances of other European powers ( Alexander I ). However, he died and Decembrist revolts followed as people argued of his successor (Merri et al.). His brother, Czar Nicholas, then will come into power. However, the Russians revolt against him because of harsh treatment and his constant want for more power. This forms a revolutionary movement. He tried to conserve his power by restricting education so that revolutionary ideas would not spread (Merri et al.). These are events for the story behind Under Western Eyes. Interpersonal racism is when someone has racist ideas instilled in their mind. It is nearly impossible not to have any interpersonal racism in some form. An example would be having a new black kid at school and the fact that he is black is the first thing that comes to mind. Interpersonal racism comes largely from institutional racism. It mostly means when the government fails to provide appropriate conditions for criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power, and education. Institutional racism was at an all time high during the time period of Huck Finn. If you were an African American, you were either a slave, or a free person with little to no chance at success in America. Racism at the institutional level is a major contributing factor to interpersonal racism. How the government treats a certain group makes you feel like that is okay but you do not really know why. The ideas of racism have been instilled in everyone s mind forever and the government does that change anything by treating African Americans like property when Huck Finn takes place. The character of Huck Finn shows interpersonal racism throughout the novel because it was socially acceptable to be racist to African Americans because most of them were slaves at the time. • 18. John Locke On Land Violation Of Labour Hardin states that a finite world can support only a finite population; therefore population growth must eventually equal zero (1243). Currently we live in a finite world with finite resources but use them as though they are not. With the world population growing exponentially, one must contemplate the potential of largescale resource loss. With Locke placing the greatest value of property on the labour put into it and being absolutely essential for liberty then this has to give some form of responsibility to whoever has placed labour on to the area. Before labour has enhanced the quality of a land making it more productive it is essentially a natural waste land. Therefore if you have enhanced the land with your labour then it is your responsibility to make sure it is always productive and kept at this enhanced level. This is to insure that this natural land is not wasted or spoilt. Locke strongly opposes waste or spoiling Nothing was made by God for man to spoil or destroy (31). The concept that the wasting of property is a violation of natural law implies one who earns property accepts some responsibilities for it. Covering things up is one thing that humanity has officially mastered. Humanity constantly fights, kills, and commits horrid acts; sometimes even for no good reason at all. But who is the one that will always be there to cover it up? Well, in Carl Sanburg s poem Grass , that who is the grass itself. It becomes clear that no human can cover up his or her own mistakes, so the grass has to be the one to do the dirty work. Carl Sanburg, in his poem Grass , uses proper nouns, syntax, and imperative tense to prove that humanity will repeatedly try to destroy itself, and the grass will always hold the power to cover it up. Bunker Hill, Yorktown, and Normandy are all great battles in American history, and they are also distinguished choices for proper nouns when trying to prove the point of human destruction. However, Sanburg didn t use these proper nouns. He wrote about Austerlitz , Waterloo , Gettysburg , Ypres , and Verdun . Mozart and Beethoven s musical origins are similar, both coming from families with musical backgrounds. Mozart s father taught him and his sister before taking them to tour throughout Europe. Beethoven also studied with his father before receiving his study abroad opportunity in Vienna in 1792. After serving as a choirboy, Haydn found himself in need of a means to make a living. He was barely able to support himself as a freelance musician. Haydn s first serious position occurred around 1757 when he became music director for Count Morzin. It was also around this time that Haydn began to write some of his first symphonies. Most of Haydn s earlier symphonies were three movement works (fast slow fast), somewhat like the Italian opera overture. Other symphonies were four movement works arranged much like a sonata de chiesa. In 1761, Haydn began working for the Esterházy princes, spending nearly 30 years at the Esterházy court. He composed at every wish of the Esterházy princes; any work they demanded. Haydn s duties included conducting, training, and supervising all musicians, and maintaining instruments. The, Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose Set in the 1950 s post depression America and written by world renowned playwright Reginald Rose, Twelve Angry Men has become a much loved classic within the drama playwright genre. With an abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play, Rose has pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first published. The two main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were prejudices and stereotypes. These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key literary devices; structure, setting and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names are not listed in the structure, the characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this is to prevent the audience from developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the window. The 12th Juror looks at him for a moment then moves away , (pg. 4). This decision also puts the audience in a similar position to which the jurors are in; making a decision on facts provided without any bias. Act one of the play is set in America after the abolishment of slavery, yet racism was still extremely prevalent and widely accepted throughout the country. This certain prejudicial issue is highlighted in many key scenes during the play. From Disney to Gannett we grow up with selective views of the world and shaped opinions based on TV ratings. There are many theories on hegemony in American society. Dr. Noam Chomsky, a preeminent authority in 20th century political philosophy, discusses how news media is a tool for disseminating propaganda provided by the powerful elite in his book Manufacturing Consent. He discusses how American mass media is a tool of democracy to placate the majority of the populous and encourage compliance without overt use of force. He makes several major points throughout his book. Chomsky discusses how propaganda is necessary to the functioning of our democracy similar to how other types of government either overtly or covertly enforce support among their regime. He makes the point that our media and news outlets are inescapably tied to the political machine. Most importantly, he discusses what he calls the propaganda model of the media. The propaganda model of the media argues that media falls under five different filters. These filters describe how the media is controlled and influenced. I knew from job practice, that people contributed addiction to a multitude of causes ranging from habit, personal choice, trauma, sickness, and so forth. Yet, unaware of the developed theories that explained a perspective towards addiction with outlined causes and treatments to follow in practice. Reading this material gave an educational base to my experiential knowledge. I was now able to review my past experience and see that practitioners that had serviced my clients may have had perceived notions of how to practice with individuals who had addictions according to a theory. Before reading the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Understanding the theories of addiction is not only helpful towards us understanding our own notions that we will uphold in our practice. They are important in reminding us to have an open mind and be welcoming of those that work within a different theories framework or believe a different perception of their own addiction. The different theories/models in which practitioners may work within towards addiction include the moral personal choice; sociocultural external factors; psychological secondary to psychological condition; disease primary disease; and the biopsychosocial model multivariate syndrome (Fisher, G. Harrison, T., 2013, Ch 3). Additional models include cultural part of moral model; temperance part of disease model; social educational model learned behavior; blended model numerous causes (Rocke, C. 2016). • 29. The Scottsboro Trials And Racial Prejudice Can racial bias have an effect on the verdict of being guilty or innocent? The American judicial courtroom has been comprised of the nation s many greatest racial discriminatory cases over the past century, but the most racially upstanding case, when referring to Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird includes The Scottsboro Trials. Both stories uprise in the 1930s, displaying a white supremacist mindset, which two cases fall into the conviction of rape. The Scottsboro case started on a train to northern Alabama to southern Tennessee, when nine African American boys, ranging in ages from 13 19, allegedly raped two innocent Caucasian women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Racial discrimination uprises in American judicial system when shown in To Kill a Mockingbird and The Scottsboro Trials through the racial prejudice within the jury in the courtroom, easy accessibility to target African Americans, biased accusations, as well as the social pressure to serve in one s defense. According to American history, prejudice is shown through the courtroom s jury when making decisions to send the alleged African Americans to jail. On March 24, 1931, nine African American lives were jeopardized with the false accusations of rape that further scrutinizes the nation s controversial look upon justice. Referring to Abigail Thernson and Henry Fetter when talking about The Scottsboro Trials it states, Represented by unprepared out of date counsel who had no more than a half an hour consult ... • 30. Human Evolution Essay Human Evolution Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be. Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a society as to where we came from. The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be, is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all research in that field. Humans have undergone many different changes during the last hundred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We share almost 99 percent of our genetic material with chimpanzees. Yet we have several traits that are very different. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae. Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and 91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in a variety of environments. The earliest hominine fossils show evidence of marked differences in body size, which may reflect a pattern of the different sexes in our early ancestors. The bones suggest that females may have been 3 to 4 ft in height and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Emily Grierson Schizophrenia Andres F. Malagon Van Piercy ENGL 2328 31 January 2015 Emilly has a problem Emily Grierson is the main character in the short story, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. She is a lonely, troubled and eccentric lady who lives in the same old house where she was born and raised. Emily has been living in this house and taking care of her father all her life. However, when her father died, she decided not to leave her old house and began to develop a series of behaviors that can lead the reader to think about a mental condition. By examining Emily s behavior, her social relationships and the towns people lack of response, one can infer that Emily suffers from schizophrenia. They finally understand how critical was her mental illness, when they found the dead body of her [skeletal `boyfriend`] lying on a bed with his clothes and personal items ready to wear and everything carefully folded and groomed (Faulkner 800 ). It becomes clear how disturbed Emily was, how frightened the town s people were of her, and the individual parts of the story begin to fit and come together for the reader. There is a moment when the helper who was the only one living on the property with Miss Emily all these years, leaves the house and disappears. This seems odd because he is the only one who knows the true story about what happened inside that house; and probably he is the only one who could be helpful for her at some time in her life. As soon as Emily died he allows the people in and runs away forever. It was Emily s behavior and her lack of personal connections that kept the people who could have helped her ... Thus, the most important factors for successful implementation of the JIT strategy are top management commitment, reduction of setup time and preventive maintenance scheduling of the company. 3.1 Top management commitment In order to implement a better strategy in a company, one of the important factors that need to be a concern is the commitment of top management. It is significant to cognize that the top management is seriously dedicated. Top management must create and hold a series of principles and regulations, statements must state its commitment to JIT procurement, production, distribution strategy which product lines are affected. Besides that, the function of the machinery, the duty of every worker, the resources that available for implementation, the timetable for implementation are involved in the execution of the JIT strategy. 3.2 Reduction of Setup time ... • 33. An Error Based Data Acquisition System Used For Carbon... An Error Residual Generator for Fault Detection and Isolation in a Data Acquisition System Used For Carbon Mono Oxide Nitrogen Oxide Monitoring Abstract clean air is a basic necessity for all human beings living on earth, yet about 80% of world s population breathes air that has pollutants which exceed the World Health Organization s recommended level. Environmental air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global warming and acid rains. To avoid such adverse imbalances in nature, an air pollution measuring system is of utmost importance. This paper presents fault detection and isolative model implemented in a novel fault tolerant microcontroller based data acquisition system design for air pollutant concentration measurement in industrial facilities in Nigeria. A supervisory control unit was incorporated in the data acquisition system design in an attempt at robust control. The model utilizes weighted standard deviation /data variance method to detect anomalies and correlation in measured data, with a view to data intelligence elicitation, an error residual generator was designed to handle fault isolation and accommodation. The overall system implements corrective procedures in the event of a fault or failure with appropriate indicators showing in process operation. • 34. Do Animals Use Some Properties of Human Language Are there special properties of human language or can they be found in the communication systems of other creatures? Philip Tweedle This essay will discuss whether six of Hockett s design features, which are properties of language, are exclusively human or can they be found in other creatures communications. For each of the features, the communication of wild apes, trained apes and humans will be compared. This will not be based solely on vocal communication, but explore the research into signing and pointing apes (apes using symbols on a keyboard, Aitchison, 2008). The first reason to discuss this, is because human language is not restricted to vocal communication: we can use sign language and the written word. The second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pointing method is not subject to rapid fade because the keyboard is connected to a computer and the typed information is stored in the computer s memory. For the purposes of the experiment with Lana, all the sequences she wrote were stored for the ease of collating and analysing data at the end of the experiment. The fifth feature to compare is reciprocity. This is where any sender of a language signal could also be the receiver, and features in both human and apes. Communication is only truly reciprocal when the receiver knows the language used by the sender: if an Englishman shouted to Frenchman the receiver would not be able to understand the message and therefore would not be able to respond to the original call. In the case of the trained chimps, Lana who used pictograms on a screen, would not be able to communicate with Washoe, who was trained with signs. The sixth design feature, and maybe the most important, is Prevarication: the ability to lie and deceive. This shows a deliberate intent and intelligence, and is found in both humans and apes in the wild, but not in the signing and pointing chimps. The ability to deceive in wild apes is found within the social context in which they live for example: juvenile baboons have been reported effectively to use a scream of fear to ...
