Comparing Two Kinds And The Namesake
United States is a country with a big cultural diversity. Persons from all the countries, especially
from the least developed ones, start a new life in this country with the only purpose of reach the
American Dream. A better economic position, life style and educational opportunities for their
family, are some of the facts that immigrates are looking for in America. All these privileges are
not enough for them to forget their background. The reading Two Kinds by Amy Tan, and the
movie The Namesake by Dir. Mira Nair, show two different stories about how the new family in
America struggle with the parent s culture and what American culture is. Immigrants, such as me,
have to face many life changes when arriving for first time to America, such as different beliefs and
ideologies, different language and new economic opportunities Every culture has... Show more

Shahid Khan comments his own experience in an interview with Serena Solomon: I can t conduct
a conversation in three minutes. Maybe I take ten minutes. I don t think in English. This is how an
immigrant brain works. I talk in my head in Urdu, but then I have to speak in English. (Serena
Solomon). Do not speak the same language is one of the worst situations that an immigrant has to
face with. This is exactly what happened to me when I came to United States. I was looking for a
job and I needed to speak with the manager of a store. In Spain people learn English, however,
most of them don t use it and when the time runs they forget important concepts. I couldn t have a
normal conversation with the manager, because all what I wanted to said my brain processed it in
Spanish. I didn t get the job because I did not know how to speak in English. Unfortunately, this is
something that every immigrant with a different language have to face

Disney Vertical Integration Essay
Disney has expanded in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. They have 5 main business
categories, notably media networks, studio entertainment, theme parks and resorts, consumer
products, and internet and direct marketing.
Vertical Integration
The adaptation of both upstream and downstream vertical integration has allowed Disney to have
greater control over their value chain system. It has allowed Disney to maximise their profits to
earn from every aspect of a movie from its production, marketing, distribution to its merchandise.
The creation of Buena Vista Distribution in 1953 was Disney s step towards forward integration.
The creation of their own distribution firm ended their contract with their existing distributor RKO
and enabled Disney to be more cost efficient by eliminating their distribution fees. Disney s
acquisition of ABC in 1995 was another forward vertical integration as it was another platform
when Disney could broadcast their productions. Their acquisition of ABC is another example of
forward integration.
Besides distribution channels, Disney also had a home video division that released Disney s
animated films on digital video discs (DVDs). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Boston Matrix which did not move on to become a star and was quickly divested. Another portal
called GO Network which Disney had set up to try to compete with other major portals such as
yahoo was also divested when it could not gather enough traffic to compete with its rivals which
led Disney to decide to focus on its stars such as e commerce and on providing news and
entertainment content through its individual Web sites. It can also be seen when Disney decided to
divest its number of products by half in 1999 and instead decided to build stronger campaigns and
invest in their stars such as Winnie the

How To Write An Essay On Pizza
When I was little, the one and only food that I would come back to all the time was pizza. I loved
pizza because it could be made to fit the taste of anyone, including my family of picky eaters, and
it was the perfect food for anytime because it makes people feel happier. As I got older, I became
interested in cookingand one day decided that I should try to make the one food that was symbol
of my entire childhood. However, I did not have the time to do every single step to make a pizza,
nor did I have the skill it took to properly flip around the pizza dough to aerate it properly to
produce the iconic fluffy crust. I spent some time using my knowledge and skills in cooking until I
found how to make the easiest at home pizza recipe.
Making a pizza at home with this recipe shortens the entire process and gives you results that are
just as amazing. Before you start anything, you must gather all your basic ingredients, materials,
and desired toppings. The materials you will need is one eight inch cake pan, an oven, and a large
bowl and for your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of the ten minutes, remove the dough from the refrigerator and spread it evenly over
the bottom of the cake pan. Next, place it into the oven at a heat of 425 degrees Fahrenheit for
about eight to ten minutes, or until the dough has started to brown. Once the dough has started
to brown, carefully remove the pan from the oven and place it on the countertop. At this point,
you may add your marinara sauce, cheese and other desired toppings. Once you have added all
of your desired toppings, place the pan back into the oven for another ten to twelve minutes or
until the pizza has turned golden brown. If you would like a crispier pizza, cook it in the oven for
an additional two minutes. At the end of the cook time, carefully remove the pizza from the oven

express services in the Gold Rush port of San Francisco, California. Soon thereafter, Wells Fargo

Captain Beatty s The Brothers Karamazov
Captain Beatty put the fire down. This is not a book that you, sir, want to burn; we have too
much to learn from it. The book The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky is about three
brothers and their lives before their killing of their father and the aftermath of the killing of their
father. Why you, Beatty, can t burn this book is because it has an amazing message behind it.
After reading the book I feel like it teaches the reader forgiveness. Forgiveness is a big part of the
book, from the time the brothers forgive their dad for walking out on them at birth to the time
Koyla forgiving Ilusha for almost killing as stray dog. As I read this book at each scenario where it
showed forgiveness I was thinking of what I would have done. Most

Seven Years War Affected The Revolutionary War
How the Seven Years War Affected the Revolutionary War The Seven Years War started the
American Revolution in the long run, which all started because America s militia s were never
doing anything to support the war, which led to them calling on Britain to help. Putting America
in tons of debt because when Britain sent over their troops after agreeing to the terms, it costed
Britain a lot of money. In which some day the Americans would have to pay back in full. To
repay those debts, the British began to tax the colonists with the Sugar Act, Stamp Act,
Declaratory Act, Townshend Revenue Acts and the Tea Act. Colonists began to rebel against
these acts because the colonists seemed to believe it was unfair treatment to make them pay
back debts of a country so far away. After all of the fighting and rebelling, the colonists started to
look at independence a lot more often, making it seem to be the better option in the long run.
Britain began to be very over populated, which means the british wanted to expand and move into
the Ohio Valley area right along the Appalachian Mountains and Mississippi River. In order for
the French to keep Canada connected with the lower part of the Mississippi as well as the
Caribbean the French needed to keep that land. Nobody looked at whose land this really was,...

Colonists of course tried to untie things with Britain before the war and even earlier into the
war, but it took quite awhile to get all or most of the colonists on board and supportive of the
idea to break apart and become their own country. Britain was always against the idea because
they never wanted America to break free from their power. In the end, all of these fights and
taxations led America to the freedom we have today and is what made us our own

Keystone Predation
Topic and Justification
Interactions between organisms and their environment shape how ecosystems function. Research
has shown that some species can occupy a keystone role, providing disproportionately great benefits
to the ecosystem and its inhabitants, highlighting their importance to stability and biodiversity
(Hooper et al., 2005; Hossack et al., 2015). However, keystone predation is still a contentious topic,
especially when asserting that apex predators of most ecosystems provide their own incredible
ecosystem influences (Estes et al., 2011). This study aims to analyze the importance of the tertiary
predator Puma concolor (Mountain Lion), an organism not known for a significant keystone
relationship with Mendocino landscapes. This study will look at predator prey interactions and
frequency, and abiotic dependencies on prey behavior, all within two Mendocino habitats with...

Their presence, and often the mere possibility of it, induces behavioral changes in prey that limit
how much said organisms forage and reproduce. Ultimately, production of this so called landscape
of fear limits prey populations, along with direct predation (William et al., 2014). These types of
indirect effects are also manifested by humans, and have strong behavioral implications for apex
predators. Studies show that mountain lion prefer to perform reproductive behaviors, like
communication and denning, much further from human development than they do more regular
behaviors, like feeding (Wilmers et al., 2013). Human encroachment has a significant behavioral
consequence for these creatures. So, in order to maintain the keystone benefits of an apex predator,
both their populations and home ranges may require often disregarded protections (Hannah,
Midgley, Millar, 2002; Wilmers et al.,

Loewen Case Study (Memo Format)
Mr. Loewen After some careful consideration and examination, I recommend that we accept SCI
s bid of $43 per share. My recommendation is based upon my assessment of four things: * Our
position after the Mississippi case settlement * Our financial situation * Our business model *
SWOT and Industry Analysis First, the Mississippi case has somewhat damaged our company s
image and may portray us as a company that does not honor legal agreements. Not only was a
contract broken that brought the case originally, but so was the settlement as a number of the
subject to provisions were not met. If this be the case, then it could stand to reason that we may be
viewed as untrustworthy in other agreements. Being that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These financial issues lead me to my next point; our business model and its effect on our financial
situation. While our model of leaving as much individuality of our acquisitions in place as possible;
allowing previous business arrangements, staffing levels and management to continue has been
effective in building our reputation, efficiency has suffered. By not standardizing things such as
automobile fleet usage and sharing facilities, we are incurring more administrative expense than is
really necessary. By not centralizing purchasing across the board the company is not taking full
advantage of economies of scale. As growth continues the administration of costs and the different
contracts will become nightmarish. Expenses as % of total revenue are beginning to move up and
currently stand at their highest level (18%). A move away from this model, especially after the
image issues I mentioned earlier, may further damage our reputation as being the preferred
acquirer. To further complicate such a move is our acquisition of numerous rural homes which will
present a problem to the logistics of integrating services, etc. efficiently. Finally, SWOT and Five
Forces analysis point to an increasingly competitive industry that will be experiencing substantial
profit margin pressure as buyers gather more power due

Why Columbus Day Disgusting Summary
Katie Williams World Civilizations I Amanda Smith 30 April 2016 A Logical Account of Why
Columbus Day is Disgusting In 1491: New Revelations of The Americas Before Columbus,
Charles C. Mann attempts to rewrite the traditional narrative of the America s before the arrival
of the Europeans. By focusing on the mistakes of other writings, and creating a new concept of
the New World, as well as explaining the life of Puritans in New England, and human intervention
in landscapes, Mann does an impressive job at creating a readable, factual account of what life
before Columbus was really like. One of the most interesting, immediate things Mann says about
the Indians is that they broke one of their own rules out of desperation. There were rules in place
about the Indians not trading with the colonists, or letting them stay passed their welcome, but out
of fear of going to war with their biggest enemies, they abandoned, and almost reversed these rules.
This alone says a lot about the legitimacy of the stories believed of the Indians. Many tales of the
Indians before Columbus make the Indians seem uneducated, uncultured, and sparse in numbers.
These stories have alluded to a small, nomadic group of Indians welcoming Columbus into their
homes with open arms and no questions. However, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the same for the early inhabitants of America. They were not nomads, in fact they had large
towns and agricultural centers flourishing at the time of the European arrival. The remnants of
these places were quickly lost due to the changing of climate, but recent studies have proven that
human beings flourished there. They improved their soil in order to grow crops, and shaped the
jungles in the way that they needed. The societies that were forming at the time of Columbus
arrival were not nomadic or culturally

Big Five Personality Traits
One of the aspects of the personality theory is the Big Five Personality traits. Those traits are:
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness. Each of these traits
have been studied by many experts and defined based on the behaviors and attitudes that are
attributed to most people. There are no absolutes meaning that just because most people who
display a certain characteristic are effective leaders, does not mean that everybody who has that
trait is an effective leader (Dziak, 2017). This paper will break down each of the Big Five traits
and talk about their role in leadership. Agreeableness is defined as being kind and caring.
Agreeable people tend to display sympathy and affection in various situations and usually find
productive ways to deal with problems. Agreeable people also are more generous and forgiving
(Dziak, 2017). As a leader, there will be times when the organization will face shortcomings or
there are internal problems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extraverted people are friendly, talk more in social situations, and are fueled by being around
other people (Dziak, 2017). When someone is in charge of something, they should also be
passionate about it. If the leader does not care why should anybody else? Most leaders are
energetic and sociable. It is an important trait to get people excited about your product. Most
organization and companies require people to spend their time or money on their product. Even
something like Facebook, which is free, requires people to spend time on its platform. Being
assertive does not mean being in your face or overbearing, which often turns people off, but
someone can be assertive in a non offensive way by being passionate. People need other people in
some form or fashion to be successful, so it is important to treat people respectfully so that they
would want to do business with you or buy your

Soccer Is The Beautiful Game
Though different places of the world may call it differently, all can agree on the fact that soccer
truly is the Beautiful Game. No other game has such an international popularity and prominence,
with an unmatched ability to unite fans and players over a great passion. Unfortunately, the game s
overarching organization is stained by unwanted headlines of corruption and fraud that has forced
experts to question why they have such a consistent history of misconduct. Specifically, looking at
FIFAs decision to award Qatar with the 2022 World Cup can provide insight into the corruption and
dishonesty of their operations. What does this FIFA s extensive history of corruption mean for the
future of the Beautiful Game?
What is FIFA? The acronym FIFA stands for FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football
Association and it is the governing body for professional soccer around the world. The
organization is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland yet it oversees soccer, futsal and beach
soccer in every corner of the globe. Founded in the year 1904, FIFA contains 209 national
associations and is responsible for organizing the FIFA World Cup
, the most watched sporting
event in the world (Business Insider). The World Cup allows the organization to generate
millions of dollars in revenue via selling their broadcasting, television and marketing rights to
large companies all over the world. In 2014 alone, the World Cup in Brazil saw over $4 billion
raised through the month long event. Yet, FIFA is technically a non for profit group despite the
massive sums of money they are able to collect. For a price tag of $425 million, FOX bought the
rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cup and recently, they had their license extended until 2026
despite FIFA not allowing other company s to bid (Business Insider).
Who is in charge of FIFA? Today, they are in the middle of restructuring their executive leadership
and they have been in this phase ever since 2015. Sepp Blatter was re elected as President of FIFA
on May 30, 2015 was after his previous term from the late 1980 s. On June 2, 2015, Sepp Blatter
resigned from his role amid intense corruption allegations (WM News). Sepp Blatter and FIFA have
had a longstanding history of corruption,

Why Are There Aliens In Area 51
Are there Aliens in Area 51? Many conspiracy theorists believe there are. Area 51 persists of a
low secured United States Air Force base. Many people would assume that they would have it
secured with electric fences and all kinds of security measures but there is not. There are few
security measures that the government uses, but the ones they use are top of the line equipment
to ensure people stay out. The sensors that they use for the borders of the base can detect if the
object near is an animal or a human being. People have said that they keep aliens and alien aircraft

Many people think that it s aliens, but many people believe that those are not believable enough
for them. They come up with other conspiracy theories of their own and talk about them. One of
the more colorful rumors insists the infamous 1947 Roswell crash was actually a Soviet aircraft
piloted by mutated midgets and the wreckage remains on the grounds of Area 51. (Blitz, 25
April 2018) This was a crash that happened in the part of Nevada that contained Area 51. That is
not all other people believe, some even think other conspiracy theories happened to take place
inside of the buildings at Area 51. Some even believe that the U.S. government filmed the 1969

that people believe in inside of Area 51. It is crazy to think that people spend their lives and all

Are Krishna, from the Bhagavad Gita, and Rama, from the Ramayana, really that different from

The Bhagavad Gita is a story about the conversation between Arjuna and Krishna when Arjuna is
questioning if he should fight in a war. While The Ramayana is about the life of Rama during his
exile and going back to his kingdom. Although these two stories are very different, they do include
some similarities. For example, both stories have characters that are avatars of Vishnu, Krishna and

Krishna his reasons why he does not want to fight, Krishna begins to tell him it is his dharma to
fight in this war. He states, Do not become a cowardly eunuch, Son of Pritha; this is not fitting
for you. Let go of this lowly weakness of the heart and stand up, Scorcher of the Enemy! (p16:

never be weak. Krishna also says, Death is fixed for those who are born, and birth is fixed for
those who die; since such an end is certain, you should not grieve (p23: 27). He is basically
telling Arjuna the way of life, so he should not be worried since this is the cycle of life. Krishna
proceeds to tell Arjuna this is his dharma as a warrior. He suggests, If you will not engage this

is his dharma, he will destroy his real dharma of being a warrior and will cause himself bad
karma. Krishna then talks about yoga in action. Krishna says, The person who has practiced yoga,

The Right to Privacy via Electronic Transmissions Essay
The right to privacy, via electronic transmissions to include the internet, is an ever present issue
that does not and most likely will not ever have a solution that will not only satisfy the wants of
citizens but the security needs of the nation. When issues of privacy arise we refer to a non
evolving, interpreted document called the Constitution written over two centuries ago. In order to
maintain national security, citizens must surrender some privacy for the good of the nation and
themselves. If privacy takes precedent over national security, then our nation becomes susceptible
to attacks both electronic and physical in nature. But if a fair and proper agreement between the
need for privacy and security can be reached, then it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Framers wrote and established the Constitution to protect the citizens from any physical threat
within the nation. In reference to the right to privacy, the word privacy is never actually written in
the constitution. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 9th and 14th amendments have been interpreted to protect certain
privacies. The 1st amendment is the privacy of beliefs . The 3rd amendment is the privacy of the
home . The 4th amendment is the privacy of the person and possessions . The 9th amendment is the
general protection of privacy . The 14th amendment is the liberty clause, stating that states cannot
take away a citizen s life, liberty, or property without due process. These amendments in their
original form protect citizens from the states and the federal government, but through the evolution
of society and it s technologies we now also need protection against those outside of the United
States. The need to interpret how the constitution is to be applied to varying situations shows that
the constitution is in fact not a living document. Because it is not alive, it has not evolved or
adapted to the pressing needs of the nation. In 1890, the first wiretap occurred. A wiretap is the
monitoring of telephone or Internet conversation by a third party. In 1928, the Supreme Court

The Popularity Of Characteristics In Mary Rowlandson s...
Captivity narratives are so popular because people find it more interesting to read something that
is written in first person. Not only is it important that the narrative is in first person, but the writer
is also describing all the events that occurred during their time in captivity, which is very
emotional and people enjoy reading things because of that emotional appeal. Captivity is not
something that most people want to experience, but people want to read about it so that they have
a better understanding of what happens to these victims and even be able to sympathize for them,
and maybe provide support for others who have recently been in captivity. I think that most people
have a big enough heart to where if they read a captivity narrative, they would feel sympathy
towards all people who have been victims of captivity. Most importantly, I believe that captivity
narratives are popular and appealing to the reader because throughout the narrative it shows how the
victimdealt with the situation, and how they were able to survive captivity until they were found.
In Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative, all of these things are expressed, and she discusses her
entire journey through captivity. One of the main things to take away from this narrative is the
amount of faith that is portrayed throughout all the difficult times. Anyone who were to read this
captivity narrative would recognize how important Rowlandson s faith was to her and her family;
even though the Indians did

Coty v. Ramsey Assocs., 149 Vt. 451, 457 (Vt. 1988). In Coty, when one is trying to determine

as having definite offensiveness, inconvenience or annoyance to the normal person in the
community. Id. So, has to be determined if the recently constructed chicken coop in Mr. Ellis

Crime Prevention Programs Help Protect And Deter Crime...
Crime prevention programs help to prevent and deter crime within neighborhoods by getting the
neighbors involved. Neighborhood watches use residents within a neighborhood to look out for
suspicious activity/ issues then report them to police before any crime occurs. Using this method
potentially deters crimeand offenders from committing more crimes. A neighborhood watch can
consist of a block watch, community watch, home watch and citizen alert. Neighborhood crime
preventionprograms arose because of the need to get citizens involved in preventing crime.
Overview of history and objectives
Neighborhood Crime Prevention Programs vary in number and purpose. One of the oldest and
most effective neighborhood crime prevention programs in the U.S. is the Neighborhood Watch
which was first started in 1972. The concept of a neighborhood watch can be traced back to days
when night watchmen patrolled the streets. Today, what we know as the neighborhood watch was
developed from sheriff and police chiefs who wanted a neighborhood crime prevention program that
would involve the citizens and to reduce the increase in robberies. Neighborhood watches worked
then and continue to work now because it helps reduce the opportunities to commit crime. The
Neighborhood watch was created to help strengthen the relationships between the neighbors and
community crime prevention. The police have relied on the community for years to help assist with
crime prevention. In fact, neighborhood watches have

George Orwell s Animal Farm And Ariel Dorfman s...
Both George Orwell s Animal Farm and Ariel Dorfman s Rebellion of the Magical Rabbits share
the idea that people s ignorance can contribute to their political and social oppression. These
stories are both different, but at the same time are completely the same. The stories both have a
different plot but have the same deeper meaning of ignorance leading to people s social and
political oppression. George Orwell used real life experiences of when political leaders took over
the Soviet Union and created a communist society to inspire his book while Ariel Dorfman used

Another relation that these two writers have is that they both quit or were forced out of their

idea, otherwise known as a dictatorship. Ariel Dorfman was born in Buenas Aires, Argentina in
1942 and is still alive today. Both of these authors also had similar writing styles by using
allegories of the dictatorships in their countries. These two authors have a lot in common and

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And The Reeve s Tale
The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale, two of the many stories in Geoffrey Chaucer s The
Canterbury Tales, portray many similarities on the views of love, marriage, and immorality. Both
The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale portray what love truly means to the Miller and the Reeve.
Chaucer s two tales also exemplify the unfaithfulness of the wives to their vows of marriage.
Additionally, the stories share corresponding similarities in the many instances of dishonesty and
immoral features of the male characters. Throughout The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer illustrates to
the reader the true characteristics of the Miller and the Reeve by using the aspect of morality to
show their related views on loveand women.
Love, to both the Miller and the Reeve, is frequently associated with beauty, lust, and sexual
intercourse. Their vision of love is consistent in both stories; indicating that they care mostly
about the women s physical appearances. This can be easily seen in the stories by the way that
the women are described and portrayed. Neither of Chaucer s story tellers offer much insight
into the women s intelligence or mental characteristics. In The Miller s Tale, the Miller writes,
Fair was this yonge wyf, and therwithal as any wesele hir body gent and small (line 3233), and
likewise in The Reeve s Tale when the Reeve notes, With buttokes brode and brestes rounde and
hye (line 3975). The understandings of love to both the Miller and the Reeve resemble each
other in how it is just something that is pleasing to the eyes and the body. Both of the wives in
The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale are quick to commit unholy sex acts with men who are
not their husbands. For example, in The Miller s Tale, upon John, the carpenter, falling asleep,
Nicholas and Alison decide to betray the reeve and have sexual relations with one another. And
thus lyth Alison and Nicholas in bisinesse of mirthe and of solas (line 3653). Similarly, in The
Reeve s Tale, the miller s wife becomes guilty of fornication once the miller has fallen asleep.

Civil War Vs Radical Reconstruction
1 ) The century following the civil war saw massive and unprecedented expansion in the reach and
interconnectivity between the federal government and American citizens. Starting with radical
reconstruction all the way up to the development of the New Right, the federal government reached
into civilian lives with new legislation that were direct reactions to social fears or conflicts. While
each act of expansion did alienate certain sects of the population, it was with this growth that the
federal government expanded freedom and democracy to the masses. The beginning of this century
of increased governmental intervention was marked by the policy of Radical Reconstruction. This

Shield Of Achilles
Hope often contrasts with reality, especially within Greek mythology or similar replications. For
instance, The Shield of Achilles is written by W.H. Auden in the form of a ekphrasis and details the
content on the Shield of Achilles; The Shield of Achilles juxtaposes the idea of hope portrayed by
Thetis versus reality shown through Hephaestus(further referenced as Hep). The speaker in The
Shield of Achillesis blunt in showing Thetisimagery of tranquility, peace and liveliness in
comparison to HepВґs imagery of actuality, war and idleness. Tranquility often becomes
contradicted by what is happening in actuality. As shown in the first four lines of the poem, the
speakerВґs attitude is blunt; which is seen when She looked over his shoulder for vines and olive
trees, marble well governed cities and ships upon untamed seas (Lines 1 4). These lines are straight
to the point in showing that Thetis looked over Hep s shoulder and was looking for three things.
Thetis, Greek mother of Achilles instructed HepВґs, Greek god of blacksmiths to make her son a
shield with certain items on it. Thetis wanted things that showed tranquility and items that
represented the reverenced aspect of Greek culture. These items show imagery of Greece being
calm and undisturbed, another things that can be inferred is Thetis, being a mother and only
wanting the best things for Achilles including his safety in a calm city. These items are
juxtaposed with actuality when Hephaestus has done the complete opposite of what Thetis has
instructed. Hephaestus created on the shining metal, his hands had put instead an artificial
wilderness and a sky like lead (Lines 5 8). A shift occurs when Hep places the reality of what the
Greeks are facing, which is a place that is becoming altered by man. He also chooses to place
what he wants to place on the shield, instead of what Thetis has instructed him place. Negative
diction also occurs when the speaker uses a world like artificial which usually has a negative
connotation that often indicates fakeness, as well as a sky instead of being blue and happy is
dark heavy metal. Peace, a time of quietness once again ruined by threats of a war occurring.
Thetis again looked over his shoulder for ritual

Independence and the Development of the American Identity...
During the 1800s, we find the theme of independence, or freedom from outside constraints, in the
development of two different frontiers. We find it in the American West through Manifest Destiny,
freedom from caste, and in the chance that homesteaders had to acquire virtually free land. We find
independence in math through in the building of stronger theoretical foundations, non Euclidean
geometries, and Cantor s infinities.
Independence involves breaking from the commonly accepted, traditional views in order to explore
the new. It is not necessarily individual people working alone. We can see independence in a
community of thought as well as in the work of a single person.
Independence is an important part of the Western culture as ... Show more content on

In the 1880s, Hulda Rocell and her daughter Mary emigrated from Sweden to the United States. Abe
Lincoln had just been shot. Mr. Rocell had to stay in Sweden because of his tuberculosis.
Nevertheless, Mr. Rocell said, Go to the United States. It is strong enough that Lincoln s
assassination will not plummet the nation into chaos. Although he did not place this optimism
under the title of Manifest Destiny, the idea that the United States is strong, and will continue
despite opposition, is a part of this concept.
Hulda married, and her family settled in a sod house in northern Minnesota. Her husband showed
independence and determination for the family to survive by planting fruit trees on the farm. It was
highly unusual to attempt to plant fruit trees that far north.
The family s independent spirit, and courage was a vital part of surviving in the harsh conditions

Qualitative Studies
When deciding whether to use qualitative or quantitative research techniques within a business

Equal Outcomes vs. Equal Opportunities
Description: If you take all the change out of your pocket and look at the tail side of each coin you
will find written in Latin the motto of the United States of America; e pluribus
Unum . It states : out of many, one . This statement suggests that there are many different cultures
that comprise our country, and all these cultures are as one. The United
States political system has enacted numerous policies in order to ensure the equality promised by
this motto among all the people of this Nation. Due to the discrimination that is sadly, still a part of

Equal Outcome policies have made sure that all races, creeds, and peoples with disabilities are
proportionally represented in the work place. This has sent a message to the minority that it is
possible to for their group to succeed in a given workforce, thus giving them motivation to strive
for the best and eventually eliminating the need for an equal outcome policy. With the
implementation of such equal outcome policies, in time the workplace will become a equal
opportunity for everyone. With the rise of equal outcome/equal opportunity policies, many
problems have risen, however, that present a detriment to egalitarianism. Equal opportunity
policies all too often go too far and focus more on equal outcome policies such as quotas. Quotas
are hiring based on the percentage of a certain minority in a community. For instance, if there are
two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics in an area, then a company will hire two percent
Asians, and ten percent Hispanics. This is unfavorable because if a company has a position open
and needs Asians to fulfill its quotas, they will pass over a more qualified white male to hire the
Asian and meet its requirement. Though equal outcomes strives to eliminate discrimination, it
forces employers to discriminate against a possibly more qualified individual in order to meet a
quota.

The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan
In the novel, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan tells the intriguing story of how plants are
domesticated from the perspective of the plant with regards to four specific plants.. The four
plants he chose for discussion are the apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato. As he discusses
the domestication of these plants, his overall focus is the desire that each of these plants have to
us as humans. Pollan has written books and magazine articles among other pieces of literature that
discuss the relationship between plants and humans. Throughout this informational text, Pollan
tries to keep the perspective from the plant s eye view of the world, but he often slips into Pollan

and gives a little bit of their history, it was often hard to stay focused on the topic that he was

think about. The Botany of Desirewas an interesting journal type informational novel that didn t
quite live up to my expectations of what it could have been. Pollan begins by telling the story of
the lives of four plants. The theme he tries to keep throughout the novel is that human desires
connect us to these plants. One of the theories he states is that the plant has to want to work with us
just as much as we want to work with it. Through the stories of the four plants, he tells of the

Summary of the Article
Literature Review The age of language acquisition can be an important indicator of positive
prognosis and social functioning in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Children with
ASD have impairments in social communication and interaction, and a comprehensive
communication assessment is a core component of diagnosing and evaluation. Assessments are
used to utilize measures that capture each child s communication ability and there is extensive
literature available detailing the language deficits of children with ASD. However, first acquired
language in different age ranges were probed with children with ASD to find the relationship to
cognitive abilities and adaptive skills (Mayo, Chlebowski, Fein, and Eigsti, 2013).

Gun Control Legislation Analysis
. The United State has passed some laws concerning the ownership and use of gun, and more

Some men show their manliness in a negative way, like being violent to achieve their desires rather
than looking for other ways to compromise. They like being in control and taking charge rather than
understanding and deciding on an agreement. It can sometimes be threatening to women and make
them feel powerless.
2.In paragraph 10 and 11, Jensen talks about many differences between men and women one of
which is their physical differences. Their body mass index differentiates and so does their
hormones. A manwould have more muscle so they tend to be way stronger than a woman. They
also have varying levels of different hormones. Jensen also mentions that there are many
similarities as well between men and women. In paragraph 13, he talks about 9/11 and how ... Show

Jensen does not provide sufficient evidence to support his point. According to paragraph 5, Jensen
indicates that violence and rivalry are the characteristics in businessmen, athletes, and veterans but
in the United States this applies to mostly all men. He is trying to say that not all men think of
masculinity as violence yet he only gives examples of men who do.
4.From the phrase recurring intellectual fad Jensen is trying to say that the different behavior we
adapt from different cultures and groups effect why men and women are so different. It adds to his
argument that the reason why men and women are so different are because of the political system.
5.I think Brent Staples would agree that toxic Masculinity results from a political system that
contrast men against women. According to black men and public space, staples admits that there
are many stereotypes about black men. People think that every black man is a criminal or a
burglar. In black men and public Space, he talks about how this white lady was afraid of him
thinking that she might be his next target to

Making The Grumpy Old Man
Making the Grumpy Old Man Grumpier
Sometimes my kids call me GOM . It stands for Grumpy Old Man . I m not really (I think), but
certainly I verge on becoming a letters to the editor writer (actually I did once write such a letter,
but you ll be pleased to know it was in response to some very misleading survey reporting).
Am I an old man? Well, I use punctuation when texting, I know the difference between a survey and
a questionnaire (they are NOT interchangeable terms, people!), and I stopped drinking beer during
focus groups 15 years ago. Heck, after a heavy day of qual interviewing the other day I only
managed half a pizza! (and who says heck these days?).
But what, to quote the great philosopher Peter Griffin, really grinds my gears ?
It s crap research. I can happily debate sex, politics and religion, but rubbish research incenses me.
And unfortunately I see a fair bit of it. Because I get sent a lot of screen shots and Facebook
messages from friends and family, saying get a load of this , with yet another dismal example of
poor work. I ve been given questionnaires and reports from clients too. I also see problems when
completing questionnaires myself I m on most of the online panels in NZ, and when I m not
screened out I get to see what my industry colleagues are up to it s a fantastic way to see research
from a respondent s perspective.

Henderson, when she says how she didn t think a place d be any more cheerful for John Wright s
being in it (1051). And for the woman once known as Minnie Foster, it was that same man who
eroded her until she no longer was one of the town girls as she had been thirty years before, no
longer a woman who sang in the choir, her happy, hopeful spirit, gone. Her final comfort in that
otherwise drained and dreary home was that little singing canary that she had bought a year
before the events of Trifles, and whose death sets her off to finally murder her own husband by
tying a rope around his neck killing him much in the way he killed the bird and her own spirit.
This is a perfect example of something as wondrous as marriage gone horribly wrong.
While Mrs. Wright lashes out against her perceived cage, her gender role, by killing Mr. Wright,
Nora s character ultimately decides to trip the latch, to fly free from the bars. Nora s complex
personality proves to be difficult to predict to the very end, when she decides to shirk her duties
to her husband and children to focus on herself, to serve her own needs for individuality, a
decision that was not entirely popular with readers and audiences alike. Indeed, Nora quite easily
refuses to be the doll in Torvald s house, and abandons her loving, though misguided husband, and
her children. She feels driven to do this once she realizes that she and Torvald had never
exchanged a serious word in

United States Government Policy Analysis
The role of the United States government has increased to detrimental levels over the last century.
Our nation is currently over 18 trillion dollars in debt and this number continues to grow everyday.
Social programs are leading our nation s people under a constraining weight of debt and forced
dependency on the government. Our government needs to refocus on serving the people instead of
enslaving them. Adam Smith, an eighteenth century Scottish moral philosopher said the ideal
functions of the government are few and well defined. (Lipford, Slice, 2007) Smith named three
important functions, national defense, administration of justice, and the provision of public
goods. One of the largest reasons our country is in so much debt is from government expansion to
include many socialistic programs. Many of these programs were started by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt between 1933 and 1938 in response to the great depression of 1929, and are still in...

Going trillions of dollars in debt and having social programs, (that most americans are basically
forced into applying for) that may be bankrupt by the time individuals need to utilize them is not
serving its people. It s putting the people in a limbo of not knowing what to do, the government
making it almost impossible to be independent, but having unreliable sources of federal health
insurance, is making it harder for the nation to trust its government. The government is going in a
downward spiral, and it s up to the people to look at the facts, and make a decision to change the
fate of our nation. The best thing we can do for ourselves is educate us, and future generations,
because the more knowledge we gain, the more power the people have. Then we, our nation, can
come together and stand up to the misuse of power in our

The Supreme Court rules on the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kans.,
unanimously agreeing that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional. The ruling paves the
way for large scale desegregation. The decision overturns the 1896 Plessey v. Ferguson ruling that
sanctioned separate but equal segregation of the races, ruling that separate educational facilities are
inherently unequal. It is a victory for NAACP attorney Thurgood Marshall, who will later return to
the Supreme Court as the nation s first black justice. August 1955 Fourteen year old Chicagoan was

Harriet Tubman s name at birth was Araminta Ross. She was one of 11 children of Harriet and
Benjamin Ross born into slavery in Dorchester County, Maryland. As a child, Ross was hired out
by her master as a nursemaid for a small baby, much like the nursemaid in the picture. Ross had
to stay awake all night so that the baby wouldn t cry and wake the mother, if Ross would fall
asleep; the baby s mother would whip Ross. From a very young age, Ross was determined to
gain her freedom. January 31, 1865 The Thirteenth Amendment is passed and slavery is officially
abolished from the United States. The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution
outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was passed by
the Senate on April 8, 1864, by the House on January 31, 1865, and adopted on December 6,
1865. On December 18, Secretary of State William H. Seward proclaimed it to have been

DIY and Empower Yourself by Tapping into Your Creativity
Do you consider yourself a creative person? Do you actually use your creativity or do you opt
for purchasing items that are made by someone else? I have always considered myself a creative
person in fact, we all are! But if you are like me, then what in most cases keeps me from actually
using my creativity is fear of failure. It s only lately, I started to realize that I am actually capable of
doing many things, almost anything. пЃЉ And let me tell you, this is a very empowering thought!
Since I was a child, I liked drawing. I also drew and painted when I was an adult. It brought great

My mom always have sewn. When my brother and I were kids, she would sew us clothes. I had
the best dresses any little girl could dream of. Sewing was my mom s hobby... until Perestroika
came. Perestroika in the former Soviet Union brought a lot of chaos into people s lives with its
downed factories, unemployment and crazy inflation. Many people lost their jobs and had no
means to make money, including my Mom. And this is where, I am proud to say, my Mom, by
tapping into her creativity, was able to find a solution in this quite desperate situation she
transformed her sewing hobby into a business. And did it prosper! The timing for it was just right
there were no women s clothe on the market because all Soviet factories had closed, and there
were no goods yet being imported from other countries (i.e. Turkey, China, European countries,
etc.). My mom created several dress patterns which were quite successful. Women loved these
dresses! Perestroika, with all its difficulties brought a lot of opportunities to some people, but still
most were left to struggle. We were among the lucky ones!
Now many years forward my Mom and I are in our house in the US (yes, we got lucky again! But
that is another story)... and we are in front of our big black leather sofa that desperately needed
throw pillows. After a brief discussion of how we can come up with bazillion throw pillows on a
tight budget, my mom and I were off to the store to buy fabrics for our DIY pillows. The end

Receptor Proteins
A cell is the smallest basic functional unit of a living organism. The cell is composed of organelles
that help the cell perform its specialized function. Every cell contains a cell membrane and a
cytoplasm, the material that is within the cell but does not include the organelles. The cell
membrane is a semi permeable structure with 2 layers of phospholipids containing embedded
proteins. The role of this fluid mosaic model is to monitor the exchange of substances, separate the
cytoplasm from the external environment, form a communication between other cells, and act as an
identification that protects the cellfrom unidentifiable substances. Also known as fats, the
phospholipids creates a barrier between the layers because they consist of a nonpolar hydrophobic,

For cell communication, the cell membrane has signaling molecules called glycolipids, lipids
that have a carbohydrate and are bonded by a glycosidic bond. There are different proteins that
belong in the phospholipid bilayer and each of them have a function. Channel proteins are
designed to allow diffusion of molecules through small openings. Carrier proteins have binding
sites and work by targeting specific molecules to allow for passage through gate channels.
Receptor proteins triggers a release of molecules that stimulate cellular responses, for example the
release of hormones through the synaptic cleft. Proteins that use tags to identify cells to the
immune system are known as cell recognition proteins. Proteins also include enzymes and they
perform metabolic reactions in the body. The transport across the membrane allow for particles
with no charge or small ones to pass through, such as carbon dioxide. However, water cannot pass
through easily across and needs the assistance of an aquaporin, a channel protein, to move through
the bilayer. There are two types of transport: passive and active

I do not subscribe to the fashionable notion of moral equivalence between all deeply held
beliefs. I believe in the rights of the individual over the collective. I believe democracy is better
than dictatorship, both morally and practically. Not necessarily democracy as we or the
Americans or the French practice it, but the idea that in every possible practical way, you should
let people make their own decisions, and if these decisions need to be circumscribed in any way,
then you should only do it with the explicit approval of a majority of the people in question. And
above all that a people must be able to change governments and leaders without resorting to force.
So my ongoing position is that I am not comfortable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The damning picture of the state of the Arab world painted in this UN report cannot be blamed on
America, or Israel, or global capitalism. The blame lies squarely with the dictators under whom
the Arab people have suffered, who have over a long period stolen and squandered the region s
wealth, just as Communist apparatchiks did under the Soviet system. How do they get away
with it? Why do the people themselves not rise up? The aspect dictatorship which gets most
attention is the brutal suppression of domestic dissent, for which you need to take over the
organs of internal security. But you cannot just plant yourself as a dictatorship and suck the
wealth out of a country or a people. Dictatorship too is an eco system. You need a way of
legitimizing your rule in the minds of a section of the population, and someone to blame for all of
the evils for which evidence emerges. Once you have these things, you are in business with a nice,
self sustaining little earner. Other dictators tap into other vulnerable beliefs among their people to
give them a veil of credibility. It might be nationalism, anti Semitism, feelings of angst and
inadequacy. In the case of most Arab dictators, it happens to be Islam. Islam contains a number of
features that can be easily hijacked by unscrupulous leaders: the disrespect for non believers, the
basis for non independent religious courts, the concept of jihad, and the belief in the afterlife.

research may include conducting species inventories, testing or monitoring the sea creatures that
have been exposed to pollutants, collecting and test some ocean samples, preserving some
specimens, or any sample of unknown species or diseases, and mapping the distribution, ranges, or
the movements of any marine population. In some cases, they may recommend some alternative
industrial practices to minimize the negative effects on the marine species and/or habitats. They
communicate their findings and the recommendations by writing some reports and also some
scientific journal artifacts. Some workplaces of a Marine Biologist are Oceanography centres,

with both advertising and more items available in retail, the sales is forecast to increase at 5%

content for catalog. Both professional and higher quality elements should be added to the I Media

Example Of A Hero Of Brunhild
Sigurd is an example of a hero who follows a strong moral and ethical code. The most prominent
example of this occurs after he has rescued Brunhild from her castle for the second time while he
is disguised as his friend Gunnar. At this point in the story, Sigurd no longer remembers his love
for Brunhild because of a potion he was given. Therefore, he agrees to take the form of his friend
so Gunnar can marry Brunhild. Sigurd clearly cares very much about doing the right thing and
keeping the promise he made to Gunnar. In fact, Sigurd makes sure to place his sword between
him and Brunhild when they sleep together. It can be argued that Sigurd was willingly being
deceptive towards Brunhild, but this situation does show Sigurd s inner desire to be honorable by
helping others and fulfilling his promises. Additionally, when Sigurd is able recall the fact that he
loves Brunhild, it is his honor and recognition of the fact that she is someone else s wife that
prevents him from acting on his feelings. Bakaridjan Kone is another example of a hero who takes
pride in his moraland ethical code. He is even willing to die so that he may act in accordance with
it. In the myth, Bakaridjan Kone makes the imprudent decision to boast that I am so strong that
if I were to stamp one foot, so much earth would give way that the entire kingdom of Segu would
be swallowed up! But the people would have nothing to fear, for I could pull out all of Segu with

Comparing Marvelettes And Beatles Versions
There are different versions of Please Mr. Postman . Listening to Marvelettes and Beatles versions,
I fall in love with song. There are some differences between these two versions. First of all, the
lyrics are different. Reading the background information, I know that the Marvelettes version
features a womanwho hopes the postman to bring a letter from her boyfriend to her, since her
boyfriend is away from her and at war. Reading the lyrics for just a card, or just a letter, saying he
s returning home to me , I can see a woman staring at outside of the house with tears in her eyes,
missing his man so much. On the contrary, Beatles version describe an opposite scene. They change
boy to girl , and he to she . With these changes, Beatles version describes a man looking forward to
hearing from his girlfriend. Second, the instrumentations in these two versions have some
differences. Even though both versions have some instrumentations in common, Marvelettes
version uses the piano and percussion. These two elements are not applied to Beatles version.
Beatles have two guitars, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Also, instead of using drums only, Beatles
also uses cowbell. Another major difference on instrumentation is that Beatles applies handclapping
at the beginning and at the end of the song, while Marvelettes do not use such element.

Analysis Of Two Dimensional Electrophoresis ( Ief )
TWO DIMENSIONAL ELECTROPHORESIS (IEF)
The different methods of separations of a mixture, to get one particular constitute of the mixture
are available now. The separation methods are based on the charge present and on migration rate
and on applied electric field are known as electro kinetics methods. Many methods are available
which are based on the electro kinetics method. Methods like electrophoresis, isotachophoresis,
isoelectric focusing and related techniques are available for the separation the components from the
mixture. This separation of molecules depend upon the many parameters like temperature, pH,
ionic strength, viscosity, applied electric field, concentration of electrolyte, surface charge, net
charge of molecule etc. These parameters are very important for separation.
Electrophoresis is the technique which monitors the charge of the molecule under the electric field
applied and separates the molecule by considering parameters like electrophoretic mobility, charge,
size of the molecule.
Isoelectric focusing requires constant electric charge with the different pH gradient on the gel and
due to this molecules get separated according to their isoelectric point.
Isotachophoresis uses different electric field with the combination of pH gradient for the separation
of the molecules or charged species.
п‚· Electrophoresis:
The basic principle of electrophoresis involves the separation and isolation of charged molecules
due to their differential migration in a buffer

  • 2. Comparing Two Kinds And The Namesake United States is a country with a big cultural diversity. Persons from all the countries, especially from the least developed ones, start a new life in this country with the only purpose of reach the American Dream. A better economic position, life style and educational opportunities for their family, are some of the facts that immigrates are looking for in America. All these privileges are not enough for them to forget their background. The reading Two Kinds by Amy Tan, and the movie The Namesake by Dir. Mira Nair, show two different stories about how the new family in America struggle with the parent s culture and what American culture is. Immigrants, such as me, have to face many life changes when arriving for first time to America, such as different beliefs and ideologies, different language and new economic opportunities Every culture has... Do not speak the same language is one of the worst situations that an immigrant has to face with. This is exactly what happened to me when I came to United States. I was looking for a job and I needed to speak with the manager of a store. In Spain people learn English, however, most of them don t use it and when the time runs they forget important concepts. I couldn t have a normal conversation with the manager, because all what I wanted to said my brain processed it in Spanish. I didn t get the job because I did not know how to speak in English. • 3. Disney Vertical Integration Essay Disney has expanded in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. They have 5 main business categories, notably media networks, studio entertainment, theme parks and resorts, consumer products, and internet and direct marketing. Vertical Integration The adaptation of both upstream and downstream vertical integration has allowed Disney to have greater control over their value chain system. It has allowed Disney to maximise their profits to earn from every aspect of a movie from its production, marketing, distribution to its merchandise. The creation of Buena Vista Distribution in 1953 was Disney s step towards forward integration. The creation of their own distribution firm ended their contract with their existing distributor RKO and enabled Disney to be more cost efficient by eliminating their distribution fees. Disney s acquisition of ABC in 1995 was another forward vertical integration as it was another platform when Disney could broadcast their productions. Their acquisition of ABC is another example of forward integration. Besides distribution channels, Disney also had a home video division that released Disney s animated films on digital video discs (DVDs). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. How To Write An Essay On Pizza When I was little, the one and only food that I would come back to all the time was pizza. I loved pizza because it could be made to fit the taste of anyone, including my family of picky eaters, and it was the perfect food for anytime because it makes people feel happier. As I got older, I became interested in cookingand one day decided that I should try to make the one food that was symbol of my entire childhood. However, I did not have the time to do every single step to make a pizza, nor did I have the skill it took to properly flip around the pizza dough to aerate it properly to produce the iconic fluffy crust. I spent some time using my knowledge and skills in cooking until I found how to make the easiest at home pizza recipe. Making a pizza at home with this recipe shortens the entire process and gives you results that are just as amazing. Before you start anything, you must gather all your basic ingredients, materials, and desired toppings. The materials you will need is one eight inch cake pan, an oven, and a large bowl and for your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the dough has started to brown, carefully remove the pan from the oven and place it on the countertop. At this point, you may add your marinara sauce, cheese and other desired toppings. Once you have added all of your desired toppings, place the pan back into the oven for another ten to twelve minutes or until the pizza has turned golden brown. The book The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky is about three brothers and their lives before their killing of their father and the aftermath of the killing of their father. Why you, Beatty, can t burn this book is because it has an amazing message behind it. After reading the book I feel like it teaches the reader forgiveness. Forgiveness is a big part of the book, from the time the brothers forgive their dad for walking out on them at birth to the time Koyla forgiving Ilusha for almost killing as stray dog. • 8. Seven Years War Affected The Revolutionary War How the Seven Years War Affected the Revolutionary War The Seven Years War started the American Revolution in the long run, which all started because America s militia s were never doing anything to support the war, which led to them calling on Britain to help. Putting America in tons of debt because when Britain sent over their troops after agreeing to the terms, it costed Britain a lot of money. In which some day the Americans would have to pay back in full. To repay those debts, the British began to tax the colonists with the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Declaratory Act, Townshend Revenue Acts and the Tea Act. Colonists began to rebel against these acts because the colonists seemed to believe it was unfair treatment to make them pay back debts of a country so far away. After all of the fighting and rebelling, the colonists started to look at independence a lot more often, making it seem to be the better option in the long run. Britain began to be very over populated, which means the british wanted to expand and move into the Ohio Valley area right along the Appalachian Mountains and Mississippi River. In order for the French to keep Canada connected with the lower part of the Mississippi as well as the Caribbean the French needed to keep that land. Nobody looked at whose land this really was,... • 9. Keystone Predation Topic and Justification Interactions between organisms and their environment shape how ecosystems function. Research has shown that some species can occupy a keystone role, providing disproportionately great benefits to the ecosystem and its inhabitants, highlighting their importance to stability and biodiversity (Hooper et al., 2005; Hossack et al., 2015). However, keystone predation is still a contentious topic, especially when asserting that apex predators of most ecosystems provide their own incredible ecosystem influences (Estes et al., 2011). This study aims to analyze the importance of the tertiary predator Puma concolor (Mountain Lion), an organism not known for a significant keystone relationship with Mendocino landscapes. This study will look at predator prey interactions and frequency, and abiotic dependencies on prey behavior, all within two Mendocino habitats with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their presence, and often the mere possibility of it, induces behavioral changes in prey that limit how much said organisms forage and reproduce. Ultimately, production of this so called landscape of fear limits prey populations, along with direct predation (William et al., 2014). These types of indirect effects are also manifested by humans, and have strong behavioral implications for apex predators. Studies show that mountain lion prefer to perform reproductive behaviors, like communication and denning, much further from human development than they do more regular behaviors, like feeding (Wilmers et al., 2013). Human encroachment has a significant behavioral consequence for these creatures. So, in order to maintain the keystone benefits of an apex predator, both their populations and home ranges may require often disregarded protections (Hannah, Midgley, Millar, 2002; Wilmers et al., ... • 10. Loewen Case Study (Memo Format) Mr. Loewen After some careful consideration and examination, I recommend that we accept SCI s bid of $43 per share. My recommendation is based upon my assessment of four things: * Our position after the Mississippi case settlement * Our financial situation * Our business model * SWOT and Industry Analysis First, the Mississippi case has somewhat damaged our company s image and may portray us as a company that does not honor legal agreements. Not only was a contract broken that brought the case originally, but so was the settlement as a number of the subject to provisions were not met. If this be the case, then it could stand to reason that we may be viewed as untrustworthy in other agreements. Being that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These financial issues lead me to my next point; our business model and its effect on our financial situation. While our model of leaving as much individuality of our acquisitions in place as possible; allowing previous business arrangements, staffing levels and management to continue has been effective in building our reputation, efficiency has suffered. By not standardizing things such as automobile fleet usage and sharing facilities, we are incurring more administrative expense than is really necessary. By not centralizing purchasing across the board the company is not taking full advantage of economies of scale. As growth continues the administration of costs and the different contracts will become nightmarish. Expenses as % of total revenue are beginning to move up and currently stand at their highest level (18%). A move away from this model, especially after the image issues I mentioned earlier, may further damage our reputation as being the preferred acquirer. To further complicate such a move is our acquisition of numerous rural homes which will present a problem to the logistics of integrating services, etc. efficiently. Finally, SWOT and Five Forces analysis point to an increasingly competitive industry that will be experiencing substantial profit margin pressure as buyers gather more power due ... Why Columbus Day Disgusting Summary Katie Williams World Civilizations I Amanda Smith 30 April 2016 A Logical Account of Why Columbus Day is Disgusting In 1491: New Revelations of The Americas Before Columbus, Charles C. Mann attempts to rewrite the traditional narrative of the America s before the arrival of the Europeans. By focusing on the mistakes of other writings, and creating a new concept of the New World, as well as explaining the life of Puritans in New England, and human intervention in landscapes, Mann does an impressive job at creating a readable, factual account of what life before Columbus was really like. One of the most interesting, immediate things Mann says about the Indians is that they broke one of their own rules out of desperation. There were rules in place about the Indians not trading with the colonists, or letting them stay passed their welcome, but out of fear of going to war with their biggest enemies, they abandoned, and almost reversed these rules. This alone says a lot about the legitimacy of the stories believed of the Indians. Many tales of the Indians before Columbus make the Indians seem uneducated, uncultured, and sparse in numbers. These stories have alluded to a small, nomadic group of Indians welcoming Columbus into their homes with open arms and no questions. However, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Big Five Personality Traits One of the aspects of the personality theory is the Big Five Personality traits. Those traits are: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness. Each of these traits have been studied by many experts and defined based on the behaviors and attitudes that are attributed to most people. There are no absolutes meaning that just because most people who display a certain characteristic are effective leaders, does not mean that everybody who has that trait is an effective leader (Dziak, 2017). This paper will break down each of the Big Five traits and talk about their role in leadership. Agreeableness is defined as being kind and caring. Agreeable people tend to display sympathy and affection in various situations and usually find productive ways to deal with problems. Agreeable people also are more generous and forgiving (Dziak, 2017). As a leader, there will be times when the organization will face shortcomings or there are internal problems... When someone is in charge of something, they should also be passionate about it. If the leader does not care why should anybody else? Most leaders are energetic and sociable. It is an important trait to get people excited about your product. Most organization and companies require people to spend their time or money on their product. Even something like Facebook, which is free, requires people to spend time on its platform. Being assertive does not mean being in your face or overbearing, which often turns people off, but someone can be assertive in a non offensive way by being passionate. People need other people in some form or fashion to be successful, so it is important to treat people respectfully so that they would want to do business with you or buy your ... • 13. Soccer Is The Beautiful Game Though different places of the world may call it differently, all can agree on the fact that soccer truly is the Beautiful Game. No other game has such an international popularity and prominence, with an unmatched ability to unite fans and players over a great passion. Unfortunately, the game s overarching organization is stained by unwanted headlines of corruption and fraud that has forced experts to question why they have such a consistent history of misconduct. Specifically, looking at FIFAs decision to award Qatar with the 2022 World Cup can provide insight into the corruption and dishonesty of their operations. What does this FIFA s extensive history of corruption mean for the future of the Beautiful Game? What is FIFA? The acronym FIFA stands for FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association and it is the governing body for professional soccer around the world. The organization is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland yet it oversees soccer, futsal and beach soccer in every corner of the globe. Founded in the year 1904, FIFA contains 209 national associations and is responsible for organizing the FIFA World Cup , the most watched sporting event in the world (Business Insider). The World Cup allows the organization to generate millions of dollars in revenue via selling their broadcasting, television and marketing rights to large companies all over the world. In 2014 alone, the World Cup in Brazil saw over $4 billion raised through the month long event. Yet, FIFA is technically a non for profit group despite the massive sums of money they are able to collect. For a price tag of $425 million, FOX bought the rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cup and recently, they had their license extended until 2026 despite FIFA not allowing other company s to bid (Business Insider). Who is in charge of FIFA? Today, they are in the middle of restructuring their executive leadership and they have been in this phase ever since 2015. Sepp Blatter was re elected as President of FIFA on May 30, 2015 was after his previous term from the late 1980 s. On June 2, 2015, Sepp Blatter resigned from his role amid intense corruption allegations (WM News). Sepp Blatter and FIFA have had a longstanding history of corruption, ... Many people would assume that they would have it secured with electric fences and all kinds of security measures but there is not. There are few security measures that the government uses, but the ones they use are top of the line equipment to ensure people stay out. • 18. The Popularity Of Characteristics In Mary Rowlandson s... Captivity narratives are so popular because people find it more interesting to read something that is written in first person. Not only is it important that the narrative is in first person, but the writer is also describing all the events that occurred during their time in captivity, which is very emotional and people enjoy reading things because of that emotional appeal. Captivity is not something that most people want to experience, but people want to read about it so that they have a better understanding of what happens to these victims and even be able to sympathize for them, and maybe provide support for others who have recently been in captivity. I think that most people have a big enough heart to where if they read a captivity narrative, they would feel sympathy towards all people who have been victims of captivity. Most importantly, I believe that captivity narratives are popular and appealing to the reader because throughout the narrative it shows how the victimdealt with the situation, and how they were able to survive captivity until they were found. In Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative, all of these things are expressed, and she discusses her entire journey through captivity. One of the main things to take away from this narrative is the amount of faith that is portrayed throughout all the difficult times. • 25. Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And The Reeve s Tale The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale, two of the many stories in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, portray many similarities on the views of love, marriage, and immorality. Both The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale portray what love truly means to the Miller and the Reeve. Chaucer s two tales also exemplify the unfaithfulness of the wives to their vows of marriage. Additionally, the stories share corresponding similarities in the many instances of dishonesty and immoral features of the male characters. Throughout The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer illustrates to the reader the true characteristics of the Miller and the Reeve by using the aspect of morality to show their related views on loveand women. Love, to both the Miller and the Reeve, is frequently associated with beauty, lust, and sexual intercourse. Their vision of love is consistent in both stories; indicating that they care mostly about the women s physical appearances. This can be easily seen in the stories by the way that the women are described and portrayed. Neither of Chaucer s story tellers offer much insight into the women s intelligence or mental characteristics. In The Miller s Tale, the Miller writes, Fair was this yonge wyf, and therwithal as any wesele hir body gent and small (line 3233), and likewise in The Reeve s Tale when the Reeve notes, With buttokes brode and brestes rounde and hye (line 3975). The understandings of love to both the Miller and the Reeve resemble each other in how it is just something that is pleasing to the eyes and the body. Both of the wives in The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale are quick to commit unholy sex acts with men who are not their husbands. For example, in The Miller s Tale, upon John, the carpenter, falling asleep, Nicholas and Alison decide to betray the reeve and have sexual relations with one another. • 30. Shield Of Achilles Hope often contrasts with reality, especially within Greek mythology or similar replications. For instance, The Shield of Achilles is written by W.H. Auden in the form of a ekphrasis and details the content on the Shield of Achilles; The Shield of Achilles juxtaposes the idea of hope portrayed by Thetis versus reality shown through Hephaestus(further referenced as Hep). The speaker in The Shield of Achillesis blunt in showing Thetisimagery of tranquility, peace and liveliness in comparison to HepВґs imagery of actuality, war and idleness. Tranquility often becomes contradicted by what is happening in actuality. As shown in the first four lines of the poem, the speakerВґs attitude is blunt; which is seen when She looked over his shoulder for vines and olive trees, marble well governed cities and ships upon untamed seas (Lines 1 4). These lines are straight to the point in showing that Thetis looked over Hep s shoulder and was looking for three things. Thetis, Greek mother of Achilles instructed HepВґs, Greek god of blacksmiths to make her son a shield with certain items on it. Thetis wanted things that showed tranquility and items that represented the reverenced aspect of Greek culture. These items show imagery of Greece being calm and undisturbed, another things that can be inferred is Thetis, being a mother and only wanting the best things for Achilles including his safety in a calm city. These items are juxtaposed with actuality when Hephaestus has done the complete opposite of what Thetis has instructed. Hephaestus created on the shining metal, his hands had put instead an artificial wilderness and a sky like lead (Lines 5 8). A shift occurs when Hep places the reality of what the Greeks are facing, which is a place that is becoming altered by man. He also chooses to place what he wants to place on the shield, instead of what Thetis has instructed him place. Negative diction also occurs when the speaker uses a world like artificial which usually has a negative connotation that often indicates fakeness, as well as a sky instead of being blue and happy is dark heavy metal. With the rise of equal outcome/equal opportunity policies, many problems have risen, however, that present a detriment to egalitarianism. Equal opportunity policies all too often go too far and focus more on equal outcome policies such as quotas. Quotas are hiring based on the percentage of a certain minority in a community. For instance, if there are two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics in an area, then a company will hire two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics. This is unfavorable because if a company has a position open and needs Asians to fulfill its quotas, they will pass over a more qualified white male to hire the Asian and meet its requirement. • 35. The Botany Of Desire By Michael Pollan In the novel, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan tells the intriguing story of how plants are domesticated from the perspective of the plant with regards to four specific plants.. The four plants he chose for discussion are the apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato. As he discusses the domestication of these plants, his overall focus is the desire that each of these plants have to us as humans. Pollan has written books and magazine articles among other pieces of literature that discuss the relationship between plants and humans. Throughout this informational text, Pollan tries to keep the perspective from the plant s eye view of the world, but he often slips into Pollan s eye view of the world. As he talks about experiences that he has had with each of these plants and gives a little bit of their history, it was often hard to stay focused on the topic that he was trying to convey. However, I found that the perspectives that Pollan brings up are interesting to think about. The Botany of Desirewas an interesting journal type informational novel that didn t quite live up to my expectations of what it could have been. Pollan begins by telling the story of the lives of four plants. The theme he tries to keep throughout the novel is that human desires connect us to these plants. One of the theories he states is that the plant has to want to work with us just as much as we want to work with it. Through the stories of the four plants, he tells of the experiences ... Some men show their manliness in a negative way, like being violent to achieve their desires rather than looking for other ways to compromise. They like being in control and taking charge rather than understanding and deciding on an agreement. It can sometimes be threatening to women and make them feel powerless. 2.In paragraph 10 and 11, Jensen talks about many differences between men and women one of which is their physical differences. Their body mass index differentiates and so does their hormones. A manwould have more muscle so they tend to be way stronger than a woman. They also have varying levels of different hormones. Our nation is currently over 18 trillion dollars in debt and this number continues to grow everyday. Social programs are leading our nation s people under a constraining weight of debt and forced dependency on the government. Our government needs to refocus on serving the people instead of enslaving them. Adam Smith, an eighteenth century Scottish moral philosopher said the ideal functions of the government are few and well defined. How do they get away with it? Why do the people themselves not rise up? The aspect dictatorship which gets most attention is the brutal suppression of domestic dissent, for which you need to take over the organs of internal security. The separation methods are based on the charge present and on migration rate and on applied electric field are known as electro kinetics methods. Many methods are available which are based on the electro kinetics method. Methods like electrophoresis, isotachophoresis, isoelectric focusing and related techniques are available for the separation the components from the mixture. This separation of molecules depend upon the many parameters like temperature, pH, ionic strength, viscosity, applied electric field, concentration of electrolyte, surface charge, net charge of molecule etc. These parameters are very important for separation. Electrophoresis is the technique which monitors the charge of the molecule under the electric field applied and separates the molecule by considering parameters like electrophoretic mobility, charge, size of the molecule. Isoelectric focusing requires constant electric charge with the different pH gradient on the gel and due to this molecules get separated according to their isoelectric point. Isotachophoresis uses different electric field with the combination of pH gradient for the separation of the molecules or charged species. п‚· Electrophoresis: The basic principle of electrophoresis involves the separation and isolation of charged molecules due to their differential migration in a buffer ... • 54. Letter To Victor Frankenstein Dearest brother, I hope my letter reaches you in time. It has been a few weeks since I last heard back from you, and I understand the cause of your troubles. Upon reading your letters concerning your visitor s life, I was also originally in a state of disbelief. The details of his tale were so implausible that I dared not even consider them as fact. However, upon reading your tales and conceiving the vigor with which you wrote it, it became increasingly believable. This caused me to further evaluate the character of this man you claimed as your closest friend, this Victor Frankenstein. While his tales seemed to be fictitious, your account of the evil being that boarded the ship to view his lifeless body have caused me to reconsider. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From my best reasoning, this foreigner, in his strange form, was truly an angel Our Heavenly Father has sent to you. In an attempt to prevent you from giving way to the desires that have so consumed your thoughts for this time that you have left, this messenger s purpose to sway you to reconsider your costly journey. Why else would God permit him to live until his tale reached its completion? Your men themselves were begging you to free them from this obsession. Brother, I beg of you to choose the natural affection of your family and loved ones rather than continue to pursue your fascination. These two signs alone would be enough to cause any sane man to leave this preoccupation alone and return to the love that only one s family could provide. Dearest brother, it warms my heart to learn that you and your men plan to return home to London. This expedition did not have the favor of Our Guiding Savior and without it, your journey was doomed to fail. It is by God s favor alone that he has provided both of these opportunities for you to make the right decision. Please, I beg of you, if you love me as dearly as you claimed, return home to us as soon as God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
