Many people were destitute of any source of income in order to meet their ends meet. There
were thousands of people that were pink slipped because the major business and companies had
no choice but close down their operations and let their employees go. In the middle of all this
financial juncture, when people were being dismissed from their jobs and businesses ceasing their
operations, there was only one industry that was not affected by the crisis and remained in a
stable position and that was the health care industry. The jobs of employees working in clinics,
hospitals and other health care institutions were secure. Since the stability of jobs in this industry
is quite well known, many people are considering opting for a profession of radio technology to

Nursing Shortage Of Maryland And How Does It Effect...
Nursing Shortage in Maryland and How does it Effect Healthcare Renita Scott March 17, 2015
PUAD 751.TW1 Sp15 What is the nursing shortage and why does it exist in Maryland? The
History of Nursing The practice of nursing started in the past around the Middle Ages, where
women in primitive societies where made to take care of the sick whether they wanted to or
not. For example, in Ethiopia among the Zuni tribe, if a baby is born with part of the placenta
covering the face, it was taken as a sign that the baby would be marked as one destined to
become a caregiver. (Henly Moss, 2007). In many societies, nurses were mostly untrained
women who helped deliver babies or were wet nurses. According to The History of Nursing
(2013) religious figures like nuns had more training and cared for the sick. However, by the 13th
through the 16th centuries, religious orders felt as if it was their duty to care for the physical
needs of people as well as their spiritual needs and formed sisterhoods to carry out this mission. In
1645, Jeanne Mance, a nurse from France, established the Hotel Dieu de Montreal in Canada, the
first hospital in North America. By the 18th century, the United States was beginning to realize the
need for organized nursing services. In 1751, Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond opened
Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation s first hospital. It served the poor and homeless in Philadelphia.

The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce
The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce.
Advances in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant
impact on the individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some
including manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example,
manufacturing jobs have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform
manufacturing skills at an easier and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require
extensive education will be impacted because robots will be able to replace these humans since
it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also
an area addressed in the paper. Communication with other humans will be affected because
people will be dealing with robots more at your local stores or your local movie theaters.
Humans will be associated more with technology and less with human interaction. In addition to
these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper. Even though there will be a loss of
jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots may at first not seem beneficial, it
will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs since robots will be doing their
jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to perform their jobs faster. Humans
will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand of

Keny The Oldest Human Fossils Ever Discovered
Kenya, known as the birthplace of humanity due to some of the oldest human fossils ever
discovered. Senior enlisted leaders must understand the importance of Kenya and how it can help
stabilize the region and prevent growth of terrorist networks. This brief will cover the background,
government, strategic importance, and future direction of Kenya.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Kenya is a country that resides on the east coast of Africa bordering the Indian Ocean, with Nairobi
as its capital and largest city. Kenya s elevation begins at sea level and rises to almost 5,200 meters
to Mount Kenya. Natural resources consist of salt, gemstones, zinc, limestone, and wildlife (cia.gov

Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Christianity account for approximately 82.5% of the religious
population. The remaining populace practice traditional beliefs such as animist; which is the
belief that all things have a soul or spirit. Traditional beliefs also come into conflict with European
religions due to the practice of polygamy. Many of the ethnic groups believe in the common
element of ancestral spirits between man and god. The Kikuyu, who are the majority of citizens,
with several other groups worship the god Nagi who resides on the top of Mt. Kenya. (everyculture,
n.d.). Traditional dance is an important part of Kenyan culture as is in many other African cultures.
The women and men usually dance separately, and perform line dances, some of which involve
seeing who can jump the highest. Dance is involved religious ceremonies, such as child naming,
marriage initiation into womanhood or manhood. Costumes are worn during the many traditional
dances, as are props: dancers often don masks and carry shields, swords, and other objects. The
background information of Kenya provides insights into the development of its government.

Kenya is divided into eight provinces that enable its citizens to voice their constitutional rights and

Literature Review On Special Needs
Literature Review
My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with
special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co
teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that
supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I
then researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my
students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find
research that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will
have lower self esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them
reported thinking they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they
were successful learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This
study also revealed the children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them
as troublemakers because the classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior
problems (Griffiths, 2007). This study concentrates on students who attend schools for special
needs. These students may feel more isolated than those who receive special services inside a
mainstream school, but those who are evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream
school show the

2.2Proteins involved in Contractile machinery out of India.
2.2.1Actin Actin was first observed experimentally by Halliburton (1887), who extracted a protein
from muscle that coagulated preparations of myosin that he called myosin ferment . Straub
(1942) developed a novel technique for extracting muscle protein that allowed to isolate
substantial amounts of relatively pure actin. This protein existed in two forms: globular actin (G
actin) that was stable in the absence of salt, and in the presence of ions it polymerized to form
fibrous actin (F actin) is explained by Straub (1943). Actin became well known as a supplement to
the Acta Physiologica Scandinavica , when the paper was published by Szent Gyorgyi (1945). Then

For the reason that consumers only need to carry a mobile device rather than multiple forms of
paper and plastic, mobile wallets will be considerably useful. Also, because they can track users
shopping and purchases, mobile payment systems can offer advanced personal shopper services
such as endorsements and new deals based on one s location and past purchasing history.
According to a recent Pew Research survey, nearly 66 percent of participants believe their
smartphones will replace traditional payment options like credit cards and cash by 2020.
(Gramigna, K. 2015). Therefore, a few people do believe that they will be using their phones
instead of cash. Cash may not disappear completely, but it will not be used as much. As claimed
by those that doubt cash will truly disappear, mobile payments will never replace cash. Data from
Intuit shows that 55 percent of the nation s 27 million small businesses do not accept credit cards.
Despite study after study proving otherwise, many merchants believe it is too expensive to take
credit. Given this, the likelihood of those merchants adopting mobile payment technology in the
near future seems slim. (Quinn, M. 2014) It is too unlikely to expect cash payments to disappear
completely. Nowadays, pulling out your wallet for cash or using a credit card only takes a few

Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis
In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest
thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge
impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations
and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In
addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then.
One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations
with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation
regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying
memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood
immediately changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me
something I don t know, Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This
quote is where Hally takes out his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so,
creating tension between the characters. This comparison shows how Hally s dad can alter moods.

In this age of teacher accountability and shoestring budgets, we art teachers know our heads are
often first to roll when the chopping block comes out. Data walls, benchmark tests, and newly
adopted Common Core Standards in 45 states can make just surviving the job overwhelming. As

The Montgomery Bus Boycott And The Civil Rights Movement
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a year long protest, in which African Americans refused to
ride the segregated public buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Lasting approximately 381 days, the
Montgomery Bus Boycott started on December 5, 1955, and ended on December 20, 1955
(Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2010). During this time period, Jim Crow laws had just become
prohibited. However, Jim Crow laws were the way of life in the South, so even though they were
prohibited they were still in full action and strength. Jim Crow laws were laws that enforced
racial segregation in the South between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and the beginning of
the Civil Rights Movement in 1954 (Urofsky, 2015). Racial segregation is the separation of
groups of people by race (e.g. using separate drinking fountains) (Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2016).
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was ignited four days prior, on December 1, 1955, by a courageous
African American woman, Rosa Parks, which refused to give up her seat to a white man
(Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2010). This event marked the beginning of a huge turning point for the
American Civil Rights Movement.
In 1955, Montgomery, Alabama, like many Southern cities at the time, still had segregation laws
that required African Americans to sit in the colored section (back row seating) of the bus because
the front row seating was reserved for whites only. In addition to the segregated seating, the
segregation laws also required that African Americans were obligated to

Verbal And Nonverbal Paragraph Locked By Ashante Gutierrez
For ages, transportation and communication have always been major factors in history. Without
several forms of transportation some journeys would have never been. Without different forms of

Communication is a process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions

out in detail later on in his life. While some events may be dramatized, the narrative is remarkably
accurate, since Martin s regiment would have been present at every event he writes about,
according to war records of the time. His narrative is a huge form of communication used
throughout his entire time alive. He kept a journal which made a huge difference in history.
Martin spent most of his times in his journals in the war and talking about his post war adventures.
He has traveled frequently during his time in the military. The most convenient and commonly used
way of traveling was on foot. It was the most inexpensive way of travel, the easiest way to travel in
large groups and it allowed the military to travel quietly, efficiently and without being seen. As
Martin explains throughout the narrative, the military did not fund the commoners, only the upper

Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves
Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves
A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time
profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used
approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or
mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method
provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve.
However, the extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible.
(B6 ) Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the
column adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from
the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption
parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST
parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different
process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the
estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with
increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates.
Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend
can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available
for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased
flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to
saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing
due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This
discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass
transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27)
The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve

into specific details.
A part from how these two reviews are organized, both authors introduce the subject at hand very
similarly. The first topic mentioned in both reviews is the difficulty that must be met when
researching and writing information on about thirty different people. For example, Guice begins
his review by stating, It must be difficult to find a book more appropriately titled or challenging
to organize. Thirty three people including Sacagawea, her mixed blood infant Jean Baptist
Charbonneau, and William Clark s slave York... (Guice 678). Buckley writes a similar introduction
that states, Other than a few biographies on the principal characters of the Corps of Discovery,
knowing what happened to the other three dozen individuals after their return has been piecemeal
at best and haphazard at worst. (Buckley 99). Both authors introduce their reviews on the same
topic, and how they write their introductory statements sets the tone for the rest of the review.
These elements in both reviews are reiterated in their conclusions which as coincidentally are as
both similar to each other as their introductions are. Both Buckley and Guice begin to end their
reviews with specific criticisms they have with Morris book, and finally conclude their reviews by

Michel Foucault s Theory Of Surveillance
Surveillance
One of my former teachers, Michael Gedville, it s not what you do when people are watching, but
what you do when others aren t watching. This quote reminds me about Michel Foucault, who was
a French social theorist. He was a physiologist that had a different perspective than the original
physiologist. Foucault would go astray from the normal path of thinking and try new ideas. One
example is Foucault s perspective on societal surveillance. This emerged in the West after about
1600 as a means of reforming malefactors and shaping the actions of all members of society.
Foucault believed surveillance emerged as a means to change human behavior, and many
contemporary surveillance technologies reflect this larger social function of ensuring that the rules
of proper conduct and behavior are internalized by members of society.
Ruptures and discontinuity in the 1800s gave way to the development and need for surveillance.
Author Michel Foucault addresses this when he explains the transition from physical punishment to
a mental or soul punishment; this change happened because crimes started to change thus,
criminals become smarter. Civil authority wanted to rehabilitate and prevent more criminals rather
than killing them, therefore, the prison was born. With the birth of the prison lead to the birth of
surveille. Surveillance is not only used to monitor those that committed a crime, but those that
might not. Therefore, preventing crime in the first place and reducing

Why Did The Us Go To War With Mexico Dbq
In 1821, when Mexico gained their freedom from Spain, they invited American settlers to move to
the province of Texas, but there were many conflicts over laws. Texas decided to rebel from
Mexico by fighting for their independence, and in 1836 when the Texans won, they applied for
annexation to the United States. Out of respect for Mexico, the United Statessaid no at first. Nine
years later, in 1845 the United States congress voted to let Texasjoin the the United States, but
Mexico was not happy about this as they believed that there were different borders, and that they
still owned part of Texas. With a threat of them being attacked, United States troops were sent to
protect the real Texas borders from Mexico, but there they were met and attacked by Mexican
soldiers. The United States was justified in going... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many reasons as to why the United States was right to go to war with Mexico. For one
reason, United States needed the land much more than Mexico did due to their growing
population. Accordingly, in Document A it was said of the United States, the free development
of our yearly multiplying millions. What this means is that the United States was in great need
for land as their population was increasing rapidly; while Mexico was holding on to something
that they did not need. For another reason, war with Mexico was justified because Mexico was
first to invade and attack the United States troops; not the other way around. In Document B this
is supported when it says, Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our
territory and shed American blood upon American soil. This is talking about how United States
troops went to protect the borders of Texas, but stayed on the Texas side of the Rio Grande.
Mexican soldiers crossed the river to attack the soldiers and even killed 16 of the United States
soldiers. This justifies the United States going to war because when they tried to be peaceful,
Mexico did something to challenge the

Brittany Murphy, has a legally viable claim for hostile work environment sexual harassment against
her co worker Robert Singer and an equally viable claim for quid pro quo sexual harassment against
her supervisor Dwayne Miller.

Based on the tutorial, Brittany was also a victim of quid pro quo sexual harassment. Her
supervisor Dwayne, told Brittany that she would have to accompany him on a business trip, which
was not a job requirement, and that she would have to share a room with him. He also informed
her that he could transfer her to another division within the organization as a promotion if she
would show him her breasts on their business trip. Brittany, told him no, and was demoted to the
mailroom with a decrease in pay.
In order to support her EEOC claim she would need to prove that her demotion and pay decrease
was a direct result of her turning down her supervisor s request to show him her breasts. Since her
supervisor was the one accused of harassment, she could have reported her situation to HR in order
for them to properly document her accusation and look into the situation internally. She could also
confide in co workers as well that could testify on her behalf of what happened that day and what
her demeanor was like after the incident with her supervisor.
Remedies for victims of quid pro quo sexual harassment and hostile work environment harassment
may include compensation for damages such as medical expenses, back pay, future economic loss,
punitive damages, reinstatement, attorney and court fees, a prison term or fine for the accused. *

The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles
A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into
the political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the
monarch. Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign
of Louis XIV that the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle
Versailles is known for today. Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s
grand Vaux le Vicomte which was suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in
1661 Louis XIV began his epic project of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of
his absolute power. Andres Le NГґtre, Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic
conception that landscape should be more impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With
over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced
perspective, Le NГґtre, further extended the site in the mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to
the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the gardens were filled with awe, perhaps
even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment, housing France s aristocracy. Though
the nobility was relatively pampered, there was no question that the king was in charge. Elaborate
terracing, for example, gave the gardens hierarchical structure symbolizing feudal society,
purposefully reinforcing the nobility s servility by literally

The Impact Of Technology On Religion
Religion has been around for as long as human have been alive. Religion has played a big role in
peoples, cultures, the way some people live, people s decisions and the way they act and our
society. Religions has played a role in our civilization for the good and there are some for the bad
or as others may refer as controversial. Technology is something people have had for quite some
time now and we have used it to communicate and spread information and our ideas. Technology
has played a role in religionfor the good and for the bad.
Technology has helped spread the word of religion through different communications. One of
the first few technological ways of communication besides word of mouth was through the
printing press. This helped spread religion more and helped people s literacy rates improve since
written text was becoming more common. This helped people study their beliefs and faiths on
their own. This also helped with religions being more diversified and helped peoples get more
into their religion. In the 1920 s radio started becoming popular and one year later on January 2,
1921 the first religious radio took broadcasted from the Pittsburgh Calvary episcopal church. At
first pastors and other religious people believed this was a joke and it wasn t to be taken seriously.
As number were climbing people started believing how much it worked after Aimee Semple

The Role Of Media In The Media
The media controls society, whether we agree with this or not. Their depiction of acts
constitutes our image of the world around us. They shape the public perceptions, and create
moral panics. Human by nature are attracted to violence, as proven [b]y age 18, it is estimated
that the average child will have seen approximately 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on
television alone (Senate Committee on the Judiciary, 1999). This shows violence is a part of our
daily lives. This is entertaining to people and therefore the media picks up on this and reports it
religiously. Stanley Cohen (1972/1980), Goode and Ben Yehuda (1994) laid out the ways in which
the media captures our attention, and capitalizes on it in many instances to push their own agendas.
This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of the problem frame.
The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems.
This idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to
make capital, they need to make the news entertaining. They proceed to present a story where it is
evident, who is correct and who is wrong with just a glance (Steeves and Milford, 2015). This
usually involves talking about violent incidents or groups, such as MS 13. This framing of crime
leads to many other problems, people continually view the world as a downtrodden and violence
ridden which leads to moral panics. Cohen talked about moral panics as when a

Intelligence Sharing And The Capabilities Of The Homeland...
Intelligence Sharing and the Capability of the Homeland Security Enterprise What are the
capabilities and limitations of intelligence in supporting homeland security efforts? Since the
deadly terror attacks of 9/11, intelligence gathering for homeland security has improved
immensely. One of the most important developments in our law enforcement structure that has
enhanced our intelligence is the creation of fusion centers. Fusion centers are state and major
urban area focal points for the receipt, analysis, gathering, and sharing of threat related
information between federal; state, local, tribal, territorial (SLTT); and private sector partners
(Department of Homeland Security, 2016). These fusion centers are owned and operated by state
and local entities and are supported by federal partners in its many aspects which include
personnel deployment, capacity building, and important and crucial connectivity to federal
systems (Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), 2012, para. 3). For example, the DHS provides
over 70 fusion centers access to the Homeland Secure Data Network or HSDN which allows these
fusion centers to receive federally generated classified threat information. By creating fusion
centers, intelligence gathering and analysis is not contained in the federal level governments from
the SLTT level as well as other entities relevant to this initiatives are involved. This then devolves
and shares homeland security roles to practically all law enforcers from all levels

The Opinion Of Henry Jenkins Essay
In the opinion of Henry Jenkins
Participatory culture shifts the focus of literacy from individual expression to community
involvement Jenkins et al (2009, pg6).
Using this explanation, this essay underlines the matters of how the entertainment industries has
taken full control through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Furthermore, it
also typifies how such industries emphasis significantly into its logics and practices through its
audience and fan participation. Supported Research is justified by various theorists/examples. This
includes Prensky, Katz and Blumler, Dan Gilmore, David Gauntlet, Charles Leadbeater and Jenkins
himself.
According to Jenkins Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide , It spectacles that
the entertainment industry has taken the advantage of harnessing New Media on traditional
formats by focussing on the logistics and practices. This evidently helps to increase the popularity
and the availability of audience participation through the use of updated technology. This is denoted
through old technological formats via applying new interactive media to heighten the participation
for numerous audiences. For instance, back in the day many industries i.e. entertainment had to
depend on broadcasting and radio for the viewers to receive their audio or visual content. To do
these industries had to send out signals globally through a large transmitter so that people can
receive their content. Transmitting these signals

Virginia Mason Hospital
What were reasons for implementing lean management at Virginia Mason Hospital? Lean
thinking begins with driving out waste so that all work adds value and serves the customer s
needs. Identifying value added and non value added steps in every process is the beginning of the
journey toward lean operations. In order for lean principles to take root, leaders must first work to
create an organizational culture that is receptive to lean thinking. The commitment to lean must
start at the very top of the organization, and all staff should be involved in helping to redesign
processes to improve flow and reduce waste. Although health care differs in many ways from

The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of the cost of
medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab results, phone messages,
often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list bear further explanation. The No
Layoff Policy is critical to the success of implementing lean management. People will more fully
commit and engage in improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves
out of a job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to reassign
staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well: Staff, especially in health
care, do not typically view themselves as working for the organization, but for their individual
department and/or care team. In lean thinking, the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff
/providers must come to understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be
reassigned depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a

What Is Mardi Gras Parade
1.What is this parade called, and where is it located? What is this parade about? What are they

revelry, alcohol, bead throwing and an excuse to bare skin. However, there are also those who do
not know that there are many parades rather than one Mardi Gras Parade. These parades are
deeply rooted in the history and society of New Orleans and its residents. These Parades are
celebrations leading up to Mardi Gras (translated to Fat Tuesday from the French) which marks the

there were more than 3,400 accidents involving semitrailers in 2013 alone. Due to the size

occupants of passenger vehicles. While not all trucking crashes can be avoided, there are steps
that drivers can take to reduce their odds of being involved in these types of accidents. Use

As a result, truckers may have to merge into the lanes to their left in order to make some right

Avoid suddenly slowing or stopping According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, fully
loaded tractor trailers can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. Due to their size and weight, these
vehicles require significantly more stopping distance than passenger cars, trucks and SUVs. In
ideal conditions, large trucks traveling at 55 mph need about 430 feet to stop. Consequently,
truckers may not be able to adjust and stop in time to avoid a collision if drivers suddenly slow or

Keeping a hummingbird feeder is a good idea, but there are other things you need to do to keep the
little birds happy and humming in your garden. Hummingbirds, unlike most other animals, do not
find their food source based on smell. Because of this, brightly colored plants and feeders are what
attract the tiny creatures to your garden. Red is the best color to attract them. Keeping a clean, full
feeder provides hummingbirds with the energy they need to keep flying around your garden and to
other stops on their feeding route. The sugar water solution, however, is not their main food source.
Hummingbirds actually get the nutrients and proteins they need for survival from soft bodied
spiders and tiny insects on the plants in your garden. Their outrageous metabolisms burn up calories
so quickly, they need the sugar and flower nectars to keep them energized so they can hunt. The
traditional sugar/water solution calls for one part sugar to four parts water. Do not boil the water to
make syrup. Just mix it in room temperature water. Some gardeners have experimented with
solutions that have a higher concentration of sugar to water. There is no research to show that high
concentrated solutions of sugar harms the hummingbirds. Their metabolism operates so much
differently than most animals. A higher concentration of solution just means they can drink less
often to get the energy they need to hunt. It

The Pros And Cons Of Space Exploration
Space exploration has exploded in the past 56 years. From the first successful satellite mission in
1961, to the first mission space walk in 1969 a to the first time lettuce was grown and eaten in space
in 2015. These are just the beginning steps towards potential space exploration and advancing
technology to the maximum. Although space explorationis now being emphasized on and invested
in, what does this do to benefit earth or even every individual who lives on Earth? Many writers,
engineers, mathematicians, and chemists can agree that space exploration is going to provide
more research for medicine and environmental factors. Others may also argue that the risks of
exploring another planet will be too damaging because the life or atmosphere as it is will not be
the same after humans have made their print on it. Three main clusters that are developed under
this idea of space exploration is the benefits that are gained, ethical code and what it means with
regard to the future of the humanrace. In this paper I will talk about what major projects are being
worked on and who will benefit from these. This will also include what laws of space are and
ethical code. This will also identify the differing viewpoints on space exploration and whether the
big picture is worth the small steps being taken as to advancements in space technology and
sciences. One large project that is being pursued is colonizing marswith a human population. This
will mold the future and newer generations. It can make us question the future and what lies
ahead. It has been said that it will take no more than 50 years to fulfill the colonization of mars.
Ideas such as colonizing another planet is not unheard of and if humans do not consider the
possible impacts in a new environment, this can be detrimental. The article A NASA Funded
engineer s plan to colonize Mars from CNN was written by Kate Springer in 2017. One
statement that made was, I believe building in space is going to become commonplace in less
than 50 years. There s an abundance of energy and materials (in space) all we have to do is

Dangerous was an album of New Jack Swing which was a combination of R B, Jazz, and funk.
This was the most sold New Jack Swing record of all time. Dangerous not only was significant
because of the record it broke but all profits that were earned form the tour were donated to
different charities including the charity that Michael Jackson ran (Michael Jackson Biography

Though after these successful times, Michael Jackson s public opinion turned negative. In 1993,
Michael Jackson was accused of sexual abuse by a thirteen year old boy that Jackson had known.
After a year of these allegations Jackson settled with the family for approximately twenty million

Not only did the sexual abuse allegations change the public s opinion of Jackson but his changing

blamed his skin changing from black to white on a skin pigmentation deficiency. Even as these

Tatum explains how white individuals, at a young age are taught by the American culture that they
have superiority over people of color. These assumptions can be made based on social media and
institutions such as school. Parents also plays a huge role on influencing their children on what to
think about on certain groups. For examples, children at a young age watches cartoons and based
off of those images, they grow up thinking that those assumptions are accurate. Due to this, they
make assumptions on others racebased on what they learned from the media, school, and also from

Acute Respiratory Failure Caused by Aspiration Pneumonia
My patient is a 47 year old female who was admitted into the University of Kentucky hospital on
September 9th, due to acute respiratory failure with hypoxemia. She was in respiratory distress and
had an altered mental status. Her chief complaint was shortness of breath.
Her medical history showed a history of strokes with left hemiparesis/aphasia, seizures,
hypertension, chronic systolic and diastolic dysfunction, mechanical aortic valve replacement,
depression with psychosis, nephropathy, and GERDS. She currently resides in a skilled nursing
facility.
Initial assessment of my patient revealed she had an increased work of breathing
using accessory muscles she had a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. Vital signs included, respiratory
rate 31, blood pressure 130/85, breath sounds were diminished with crackles in the bronchioles.
Chest physical examined revealed increased fremitus and a dull percussion note.
After arriving at the emergency department at U.K. hospital, my patient reported to having
choked while eating breakfast on 9/7/16. She also mentioned that she frequently chokes while
eating, so this was not a surprise to her. She reported that she had another spell with pneumonia

Raising Cane s Menu Analysis
In a current menu from the fast food restaurant, Raising Cane s, it lists everything that they have to
offer since they opened on August 26, 1996. Since opening in Louisiana, Raising Cane s has
become a fast food chain restaurant, where they have 14 total locations in Ohio and are constantly
growing. The menu, in most cases, is one of the first things that the customer sees and therefore,
should grab the attention of the customers. In the Journal of Foodservice Business Research,
Michael McCall and Ann Lynn state Indeed, the menu outlines your strategic marketing plan and

The picture consists of chicken fingers, Cane s signature sauce, and coleslaw. In the background
of the picture you can see a piece of toast and on the side you can see the fries, but the main focus
is the chicken, sauce, and coleslaw. The reason for this is that those are the most popular items,
which is what they are trying to promote. One can tell this because the toast and fries are hard to
see because they are faded out of the picture, and the chicken, sauce, and coleslaw are in the front
and are more prominent. This picture is used to show the customers what they want them to see.
The chicken fingers are primarily what they are known for, which explains why they would have
the chicken as the most seen item. Along with the chicken, they are also widely known for the
secret signature Cane s sauce. You can tell that the sauce is just as important because it s right in
the middle of the picture. Lastly, they show the coleslaw because they want people to see that they
do have an item that is healthy. The other items are in the back and are harder to see because they
want to show people the items that they think are the most

Othello the Outsider
Shakespeare portrays Venice as incredibly advanced for its time. This is seen especially though
its democratic justice system, as we are shown that in Act One everybody has a voice regardless
of their colour or sex. The fact that Othello has obtained the high position of general within the
army suggests that his chances have by no means been restricted by the colour of his skin. Also
the fact that he is treated with the utmost respect from the Duke, the highest authority in Venice,
shows that the colour of ones skin is not seen as a disadvantage in Venetian society. We are aware
of its reputation as a very sexual city through the booming sex trade and it is viewed as a very
cosmopolitan city due to its importance as a trading port.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare used the comments of Iago, Brabantio and Roderigo at the beginning of Act One,
so that we had preconceived ideas of Othello and were prepared to observe him as different ,
however as we learn about his true personality we feel terrible about forming such prejudiced
opinions and therefore we place Othello high up on a pedestal. This is Shakespeare s intention
for his Tragedy, as this provides the central character, Othello, with a further distance to fall,
adding significance to his disintegration later on in the play. We learn that the Duke, the highest
authority in Venice, holds the utmost respect for Othello proving that the words of Iago,
Brabantio and Roderigo do not reflect the opinion of all Venetians: Valiant Othello . We now
begin to unravel that these particular characters are all biased against Othello, due to personal
problems. Brabantio s discovery of Othello s marriage to his daughter sparks a hatred within him
and his references to piracy and witchcraft exposes a racist element in his character: O thou foul
thief! Where hast thou stowed my daughter? Damned as thou art, thou hast enchanted her .
Although he was happy for Othello to dine at his house with his daughter many times before, the
intimacy of marriage proves a step too far for Brabantio and aided by Iago s manipulation, he turns
against

Comparing Synoptic Gospels In Matthew, Mark, And Luke
Synoptic Comparison Matthew, Mark, and Luke are the three books in the New Testament that
have been titled the synoptic gospels. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have
many similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source
and the relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of
Markwas written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their
work. This Markan priority helps scholars to begin to examine the differences and similarities that
appear across the synoptic gospels, and determine how and why many pericopes seem to vary and
even contradict each other at times. An example of one of the passages that... Show more content on

In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town
and go to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the
Nazarenes are not yet over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha
there was a famine in the land and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews
alike. Elijah and Elisha, however, were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to
outsiders in other places. This was a form of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection
of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might
happen if they continue to reject his teachings. Another possibility is that Luke added this
section to promote his social agenda of righting the situations of people that have been wronged
and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions to the poor, outcasts and women.
Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the outcasts in other regions rather
than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in the past. The Nazarenes
were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid for them and not
for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and worthy of
his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to
Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the
Nazarenes became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of
previewing that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples
shows how Luke wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is
willing to follow. Luke s major themes of righting social wrongs and giving up comforting
possessions are also supported through the addition of this

Six Major Causes Of Wrongful Conviction
Part1: Six Major Causes of Wrongful Conviction
The most vicious cause of wrongful conviction is eyewitness misidentification. According to the
Innocence Project, 72% of overturned wrongful convictions through DNA testing were due to
eyewitness misidentification1. As this statistics implies, eyewitness identification (Eye ID) is
untrustworthy information. The main reason why Eye ID lacks accuracy is due to malleability of
memories. The Innocence Project asserts there are two variables greatly influence memory and
also Eye ID. One type of variables is estimator variables which are incontrollable factors by the
criminal justice system. Examples of estimator variables are environmental factors (e.g., lighting
and distance) when the crime occurred, racial factors, and psychological factors (e.g., severity of
trauma)1. The other type of variable is system variables which is controllable by the criminal justice
system. These variables are within the procedure of attaining evidences. For instance, post
identification feedback (e.g., confirming feedback that an eyewitness receives), biased lineup
/ photo array composition, biased administrators of lineup can negatively influences Eye ID.
The second primary cause of wrongful conviction is due to unreliable or improper forensic science
and forensic misconduct. The Innocence Project asserts that most forensic science (e.g., analysis of
hair, bite marks, fire arms, and tool marks) has not been thoroughly and scientifically evaluated

What Is The Estimation Of The Forest Femining Methods
With increase in the amount, quality and accessibility of the remote sensing data on one hand, and
advancement, ease of use and capability of the open source machine learning and statistical tools,
on the other hand, machine learning approaches have become very popular and powerful methods
for estimation of the forest biomass in the recent years. cite{Iftikhar}
By far, linear regression is the most well understood algorithm in statistics and machine learning
compared to any other machine learning tools. Table 2 summarizes the studies that has been done

There are several ways to select the best features. cite{Thomas}. Also, it has been shown that
selection of the number of the features for classification, neighbors and the predictors are very
deterministic in the quality of the classification cite{NLi}.
Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are two machine learning approaches that
has been successfully implemented in several studies and resulted in the significantly better results
compared to KNN or other regression models. For example, in the study by Fassnacht et
al.cite{Fassnacht 2014} using LiDAR and Hyperspectral data, it has been shown that RF model
produce a better forest aboveground biomass prediction compared to other tested methods.
RF is the ensemble classification technique based on the many random decision trees classifiers.
Decision tree is the classification approach that relate the target point to the predictor based on
the simple decision criteria. Decision tree can easily become unstable and result in the very
complex decision boundaries, therefore Random forests are used to improve the accuracy of the
prediction and also controls the over fitting cite{Thomas}. It has been shown that a large number
of features can be handled by RF cite{Liai}. RF also, has been reported to have higher accuracy in
predicting biomass compared to

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Indian Students
Indian students prefer abroad to study in huge numbers, and have therefore become an important
source of global diversity, research power and revenue for educational institutions offering higher
education in the world.
Although, the last couple of years has seen a steady decline in the total number of Indian students
opting for courses abroad, today students as young as 17 years are seen seeking information on
foreign countries from education advisors or surfing education portals to get a clear picture about
the college abroad.
The reasons are plentiful. Need for global exposure and lack of opportunities back home are the
major reasons. The flexible functioning of educational institutions abroad is another attraction.

The Purpose Of Indian Boarding Schools
Topic 1)
What was the intended purpose of Indian boarding schools? According to the Wikipedia page,
Native American boarding schools, they were established in the United States during the late 19th
and early 20th centuries to educate and [simulate] Native American children and youths according
to European standards . So, the intended purpose of the Indian boarding schools was to educate and
assimilate the children with the idea of the living the American way . The reformers wanted the
children to understand and have practical knowledge of the American culture , and be kept away
from their traditional Indian relatives. Probably, their Indian relatives were closed minded and did
not want to expose the younger generation to different things. According to the website
nativepartnership.org, reformers assumed that it was necessary to civilize Indian people (par. 2).
The reformers wanted the children to understand the outside world, not have influences from their
tribal life, be a self sufficient member of society, and not have anything, get in their way.
2).How does Richard Pratt s statement, Kill the Indian...save the man, relate to these Indian
boarding schools? I think Richard Pratt s statement Kill the Indian...save the man, relates to these
Indian boarding schools because when Richard Pratt opened the boarding school he had the goal as
a army officer to educate and show the Native American children to be members of America
society. He also prohibited them

The Pros And Cons Of Murdere Punishment
Have you ever wondered how many innocent people are serving time in prison? Well, in 2015,
149 people were exonerated from prison because they were falsely convicted of crimes. One of
the many incidents of this was the case against Glenn Ford. He was sentenced to death by
electrocution in 1984 for robbery and first degree murderof Isadore Rozeman. He spent 30 years in
prison until 2014, when he was exonerated. The reason for choosing this topic is because although
numbers are decreasing, there are still people who have been falsely convicted and sent to prison;
and at least 4.1% of innocents are on death row. We must stop this corruption of false convictions in
the court.
If false conviction is an unfamiliar term, a false conviction is when an innocent defendant is
convicted of a crime they never committed. This is considered an injustice because there are more
than 8,000 people who are on death row for something they never did. The courts should be where
the people find the truth of the trial, but this rarely happens. Some trials may have the truth come to
light, but not many. Instead, it has only resolved conflicts between the defendant and plaintiff. As
stated prior, although there are decreasing numbers, it is still an injustice that occurs.
There are many ways that false convictions occur. One example is what prosecutors do with
evidence. It has been shown that some prosecutors would fabricate, or create evidence illegally to
show the defendant s guilt, or hide

The Impact Of Sarbanes Oxley Act On Public Companies And...
The affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market
Shareen Sidhu
University of Maryland University College
The Affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market The Sarbanes Oxley
Act of 2002 was implemented and designed to protect the interests of the investing public and the
mission is to set and enforce practice standards for a new class of firms registered to audit
publicly held companies (Verschoor, 2012). During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming
number of accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of
the major companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top
five accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their
financial statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they
were not. This became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are
more likely to invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of
companies going bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market.
Consequently, the federal government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of
2002, also known as SOX, which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
(PCAOB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Many have questioned what
Norman Bowie (2004) had questioned,

  • 3. Nursing Shortage Of Maryland And How Does It Effect... Nursing Shortage in Maryland and How does it Effect Healthcare Renita Scott March 17, 2015 PUAD 751.TW1 Sp15 What is the nursing shortage and why does it exist in Maryland? The History of Nursing The practice of nursing started in the past around the Middle Ages, where women in primitive societies where made to take care of the sick whether they wanted to or not. For example, in Ethiopia among the Zuni tribe, if a baby is born with part of the placenta covering the face, it was taken as a sign that the baby would be marked as one destined to become a caregiver. (Henly Moss, 2007). In many societies, nurses were mostly untrained women who helped deliver babies or were wet nurses. According to The History of Nursing (2013) religious figures like nuns had more training and cared for the sick. However, by the 13th through the 16th centuries, religious orders felt as if it was their duty to care for the physical needs of people as well as their spiritual needs and formed sisterhoods to carry out this mission. In 1645, Jeanne Mance, a nurse from France, established the Hotel Dieu de Montreal in Canada, the first hospital in North America. By the 18th century, the United States was beginning to realize the need for organized nursing services. In 1751, Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond opened Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation s first hospital. It served the poor and homeless in Philadelphia. When the American Revolutionary War broke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce. Advances in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant impact on the individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some including manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example, manufacturing jobs have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform manufacturing skills at an easier and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require extensive education will be impacted because robots will be able to replace these humans since it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also an area addressed in the paper. Communication with other humans will be affected because people will be dealing with robots more at your local stores or your local movie theaters. Humans will be associated more with technology and less with human interaction. In addition to these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper. Even though there will be a loss of jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots may at first not seem beneficial, it will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs since robots will be doing their jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to perform their jobs faster. Humans will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Literature Review On Special Needs Literature Review My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I then researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find research that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will have lower self esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them reported thinking they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they were successful learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This study also revealed the children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them as troublemakers because the classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior problems (Griffiths, 2007). This study concentrates on students who attend schools for special needs. These students may feel more isolated than those who receive special services inside a mainstream school, but those who are evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream school show the ... Straub (1942) developed a novel technique for extracting muscle protein that allowed to isolate substantial amounts of relatively pure actin. This protein existed in two forms: globular actin (G actin) that was stable in the absence of salt, and in the presence of ions it polymerized to form fibrous actin (F actin) is explained by Straub (1943). Actin became well known as a supplement to the Acta Physiologica Scandinavica , when the paper was published by Szent Gyorgyi (1945). Then Straub and Feuer (1950) found that G actin have ATP as a functional group for polymerization. Hayashi and Rosenbluth (1960) suggest that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a recent Pew Research survey, nearly 66 percent of participants believe their smartphones will replace traditional payment options like credit cards and cash by 2020. Data from Intuit shows that 55 percent of the nation s 27 million small businesses do not accept credit cards. Despite study after study proving otherwise, many merchants believe it is too expensive to take credit. Given this, the likelihood of those merchants adopting mobile payment technology in the near future seems slim. (Quinn, M. 2014) It is too unlikely to expect cash payments to disappear completely. Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then. One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood immediately changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me something I don t know, Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This quote is where Hally takes out his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so, creating tension between the characters. The Montgomery Bus Boycott And The Civil Rights Movement The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a year long protest, in which African Americans refused to ride the segregated public buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Lasting approximately 381 days, the Montgomery Bus Boycott started on December 5, 1955, and ended on December 20, 1955 (Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2010). During this time period, Jim Crow laws had just become prohibited. However, Jim Crow laws were the way of life in the South, so even though they were prohibited they were still in full action and strength. Jim Crow laws were laws that enforced racial segregation in the South between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement in 1954 (Urofsky, 2015). Racial segregation is the separation of groups of people by race (e.g. using separate drinking fountains) (Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2016). The Montgomery Bus Boycott was ignited four days prior, on December 1, 1955, by a courageous African American woman, Rosa Parks, which refused to give up her seat to a white man (Montgomery Bus Boycott, 2010). This event marked the beginning of a huge turning point for the American Civil Rights Movement. In 1955, Montgomery, Alabama, like many Southern cities at the time, still had segregation laws that required African Americans to sit in the colored section (back row seating) of the bus because the front row seating was reserved for whites only. Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass transfer. • 21. Michel Foucault s Theory Of Surveillance Surveillance One of my former teachers, Michael Gedville, it s not what you do when people are watching, but what you do when others aren t watching. This quote reminds me about Michel Foucault, who was a French social theorist. He was a physiologist that had a different perspective than the original physiologist. Foucault would go astray from the normal path of thinking and try new ideas. One example is Foucault s perspective on societal surveillance. This emerged in the West after about 1600 as a means of reforming malefactors and shaping the actions of all members of society. Foucault believed surveillance emerged as a means to change human behavior, and many contemporary surveillance technologies reflect this larger social function of ensuring that the rules of proper conduct and behavior are internalized by members of society. Ruptures and discontinuity in the 1800s gave way to the development and need for surveillance. Author Michel Foucault addresses this when he explains the transition from physical punishment to a mental or soul punishment; this change happened because crimes started to change thus, criminals become smarter. Civil authority wanted to rehabilitate and prevent more criminals rather than killing them, therefore, the prison was born. With the birth of the prison lead to the birth of surveille. For one reason, United States needed the land much more than Mexico did due to their growing population. What this means is that the United States was in great need for land as their population was increasing rapidly; while Mexico was holding on to something that they did not need. For another reason, war with Mexico was justified because Mexico was first to invade and attack the United States troops; not the other way around. In Document B this is supported when it says, Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon American soil. This is talking about how United States troops went to protect the borders of Texas, but stayed on the Texas side of the Rio Grande. The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into the political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the monarch. Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign of Louis XIV that the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle Versailles is known for today. Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s grand Vaux le Vicomte which was suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in 1661 Louis XIV began his epic project of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of his absolute power. Andres Le NГґtre, Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic conception that landscape should be more impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced perspective, Le NГґtre, further extended the site in the mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the gardens were filled with awe, perhaps even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment, housing France s aristocracy. This shows violence is a part of our daily lives. This is entertaining to people and therefore the media picks up on this and reports it religiously. Stanley Cohen (1972/1980), Goode and Ben Yehuda (1994) laid out the ways in which the media captures our attention, and capitalizes on it in many instances to push their own agendas. This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of the problem frame. The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems. This idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to make capital, they need to make the news entertaining. They proceed to present a story where it is evident, who is correct and who is wrong with just a glance (Steeves and Milford, 2015). Intelligence Sharing and the Capability of the Homeland Security Enterprise What are the capabilities and limitations of intelligence in supporting homeland security efforts? Since the deadly terror attacks of 9/11, intelligence gathering for homeland security has improved immensely. One of the most important developments in our law enforcement structure that has enhanced our intelligence is the creation of fusion centers. Fusion centers are state and major urban area focal points for the receipt, analysis, gathering, and sharing of threat related information between federal; state, local, tribal, territorial (SLTT); and private sector partners (Department of Homeland Security, 2016). These fusion centers are owned and operated by state and local entities and are supported by federal partners in its many aspects which include personnel deployment, capacity building, and important and crucial connectivity to federal systems (Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), 2012, para. 3). For example, the DHS provides over 70 fusion centers access to the Homeland Secure Data Network or HSDN which allows these fusion centers to receive federally generated classified threat information. The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of the cost of medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab results, phone messages, often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list bear further explanation. The No Layoff Policy is critical to the success of implementing lean management. People will more fully commit and engage in improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves out of a job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to reassign staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well: Staff, especially in health care, do not typically view themselves as working for the organization, but for their individual department and/or care team. In lean thinking, the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff /providers must come to understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be reassigned depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a fundamental element of the TPS, known as stopping the line. Few parades are more iconic than the Mardi Gras parades of New Orleans. Many may view Mardi Gras as simply a giant parade of debauchery centering around revelry, alcohol, bead throwing and an excuse to bare skin. However, there are also those who do not know that there are many parades rather than one Mardi Gras Parade. These parades are deeply rooted in the history and society of New Orleans and its residents. These Parades are celebrations leading up to Mardi Gras (translated to Fat Tuesday from the French) which marks the beginning of the Christian Lent period. In fact, the state s Department of Transportation reported that there were more than 3,400 accidents involving semitrailers in 2013 alone. Due to the size differences between the vehicles, such collisions often result in serious injuries, or death, for the occupants of passenger vehicles. While not all trucking crashes can be avoided, there are steps that drivers can take to reduce their odds of being involved in these types of accidents. Keeping a hummingbird feeder is a good idea, but there are other things you need to do to keep the little birds happy and humming in your garden. Hummingbirds, unlike most other animals, do not find their food source based on smell. Because of this, brightly colored plants and feeders are what attract the tiny creatures to your garden. Red is the best color to attract them. Keeping a clean, full feeder provides hummingbirds with the energy they need to keep flying around your garden and to other stops on their feeding route. The sugar water solution, however, is not their main food source. Hummingbirds actually get the nutrients and proteins they need for survival from soft bodied spiders and tiny insects on the plants in your garden. Their outrageous metabolisms burn up calories so quickly, they need the sugar and flower nectars to keep them energized so they can hunt. The traditional sugar/water solution calls for one part sugar to four parts water. Do not boil the water to make syrup. Just mix it in room temperature water. Some gardeners have experimented with solutions that have a higher concentration of sugar to water. There is no research to show that high concentrated solutions of sugar harms the hummingbirds. Their metabolism operates so much differently than most animals. A higher concentration of solution just means they can drink less often to get the energy they need to hunt. It ... From the first successful satellite mission in 1961, to the first mission space walk in 1969 a to the first time lettuce was grown and eaten in space in 2015. These are just the beginning steps towards potential space exploration and advancing technology to the maximum. Although space explorationis now being emphasized on and invested in, what does this do to benefit earth or even every individual who lives on Earth? Many writers, engineers, mathematicians, and chemists can agree that space exploration is going to provide more research for medicine and environmental factors. Others may also argue that the risks of exploring another planet will be too damaging because the life or atmosphere as it is will not be the same after humans have made their print on it. Three main clusters that are developed under this idea of space exploration is the benefits that are gained, ethical code and what it means with regard to the future of the humanrace. In this paper I will talk about what major projects are being worked on and who will benefit from these. This will also include what laws of space are and ethical code. This will also identify the differing viewpoints on space exploration and whether the big picture is worth the small steps being taken as to advancements in space technology and sciences. One large project that is being pursued is colonizing marswith a human population. This will mold the future and newer generations. It can make us question the future and what lies ahead. It has been said that it will take no more than 50 years to fulfill the colonization of mars. Ideas such as colonizing another planet is not unheard of and if humans do not consider the possible impacts in a new environment, this can be detrimental. The article A NASA Funded engineer s plan to colonize Mars from CNN was written by Kate Springer in 2017. One statement that made was, I believe building in space is going to become commonplace in less than 50 years. Also the fact that he is treated with the utmost respect from the Duke, the highest authority in Venice, shows that the colour of ones skin is not seen as a disadvantage in Venetian society. This is Shakespeare s intention for his Tragedy, as this provides the central character, Othello, with a further distance to fall, adding significance to his disintegration later on in the play. We learn that the Duke, the highest authority in Venice, holds the utmost respect for Othello proving that the words of Iago, Brabantio and Roderigo do not reflect the opinion of all Venetians: Valiant Othello . We now begin to unravel that these particular characters are all biased against Othello, due to personal problems. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have many similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source and the relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of Markwas written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their work. In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town and go to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the Nazarenes are not yet over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha there was a famine in the land and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews alike. Elijah and Elisha, however, were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to outsiders in other places. This was a form of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might happen if they continue to reject his teachings. Another possibility is that Luke added this section to promote his social agenda of righting the situations of people that have been wronged and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions to the poor, outcasts and women. Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the outcasts in other regions rather than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in the past. The Nazarenes were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid for them and not for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and worthy of his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the Nazarenes became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of previewing that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples shows how Luke wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is willing to follow. According to the Innocence Project, 72% of overturned wrongful convictions through DNA testing were due to eyewitness misidentification1. As this statistics implies, eyewitness identification (Eye ID) is untrustworthy information. The main reason why Eye ID lacks accuracy is due to malleability of memories. The Innocence Project asserts there are two variables greatly influence memory and also Eye ID. One type of variables is estimator variables which are incontrollable factors by the criminal justice system. Examples of estimator variables are environmental factors (e.g., lighting and distance) when the crime occurred, racial factors, and psychological factors (e.g., severity of trauma)1. The other type of variable is system variables which is controllable by the criminal justice system. These variables are within the procedure of attaining evidences. For instance, post identification feedback (e.g., confirming feedback that an eyewitness receives), biased lineup / photo array composition, biased administrators of lineup can negatively influences Eye ID. The second primary cause of wrongful conviction is due to unreliable or improper forensic science and forensic misconduct. • 53. The Pros And Cons Of Murdere Punishment Have you ever wondered how many innocent people are serving time in prison? Well, in 2015, 149 people were exonerated from prison because they were falsely convicted of crimes. One of the many incidents of this was the case against Glenn Ford. He was sentenced to death by electrocution in 1984 for robbery and first degree murderof Isadore Rozeman. He spent 30 years in prison until 2014, when he was exonerated. The reason for choosing this topic is because although numbers are decreasing, there are still people who have been falsely convicted and sent to prison; and at least 4.1% of innocents are on death row. During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming number of accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of the major companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top five accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their financial statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they were not. This became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are more likely to invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of companies going bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market. Consequently, the federal government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002, also known as SOX, which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Many have questioned what Norman Bowie (2004) had questioned, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
