Utilitarianism In Criminal Justice
Considering the three variations of consequentialist ethics, ethical egoism, contractualism, and
utilitarianism: How does these three areas of ethics effect achieving positive means and ends in the
criminal justice system?
This week s discussion seems to be very interesting and can be looked at many different ways, as we
explore the ethical framework we start with consequentialist ethics. This deals with three (3) things,
ethical egoism, contractualism, and utilitarianism. This type of ethics asks the following questions:
What will happen if I do a certain act? Who will be affected and how would this affect them? How
would other alternatives or decisions affect or producer different outcomes (Arrigo Williams, 2008, p.
145)?
Something that I found fascinating that should opened up the discussion is the issue that was discussed

A good example of this would be something to the effect if you support a certain political candidate
with contributions and work with agreements made in the form of jobs, promotions that act would be
wrong in that sense.
Utilitarianism, this type is very simple and is purely based on happiness, it tends to maximizes all the
good in something and minimize all the bad in the act. We all have the desire to be happy and
considered this to be the ultimate goal and happiness factor (Arrigo Williams, 2008, p. 146). Money,
most think money tends to bring happiness therefore many in the law enforcement arena attempt to
maximize this portion of their life whether its by working extra side jobs or many hours of overtime to
bring in extra dollars for family or extra items they feel they have a need or desire

Theme Of Human Nature In Brave New World
After observing the novel Brave New World along with an article titled, Catholic Church Corrupt To
Its Core, Says Survivor one can conjure the idea that human nature will always persevere. Since the
birth of mankind this concept has been instilled in the minds of people. It is the nature of humanity to
feel uncontrollable emotions and feelings that promote certain actions. This ranges from undergoing a
state of overwhelming rage to possessing a heightened amount of fear to becoming engulfed in
jealousy. These are undeniable traits of humans as seen in Brave New World because of the key
figures in the novel that despite Hypnopædia and childhood conditioning, enact elements of innate
emotions. When viewing Bernard Marx, one sees that he is different from the other Alphas and quite
frankly, the rest of the population. He continuously experiences jealousy of Henry Foster s intimacy
with Lenina and sadness that his physical shape is deformed. From birth, children become conditioned
to be happy and not to experience these emotions since it could potentially cause social instability. No
matter the amount of soma Bernard consumes, he always finds a way to come back to these strong
desires of love and depression. The reader can also observe Helmholtz Watson s ambition to write
rhymes that have more significant and influential meaning. Watson was predestined to cease from
thinking about creating literature that disrupts society as he expresses, ...I ve got something important

Rice Paddies And Bologn Malcom Gladwell s Broad...
Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success
In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and social
predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that Gladwell s hypotheses are
not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide
adequate examples and counterarguments to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very
unconvincing argument. Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are
mostly overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are loosely based,
overly generalized, and unreliable.
Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes, success is a concept
that can be different to many different groups of people. Gladwell insists that success is formulated
through a series of hidden advantages and cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many
do not become successful. I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition
and hard work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own hands and
create their own success.
Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would be the two
chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With Geniuses Part Two . In
these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with an IQ higher

Difference Between Object Oriented And Object-Driven...
Unit 6 Assignment by Ali Shafiq
(P1 P2)
In programming, there are three different types of paradigms that we use in programming. And they
are procedural, object oriented and event driven programming paradigms.
Procedural Language
Procedural programming is a programming paradigm which is derived from structured programming
and it is based upon the concept of the procedure call such as where you can keep a record of
procedure call programs. It s also a list or set of instructions telling a computer what to do step by
step. Also tell the computer how to perform from the first code to the second code. The program can
be broken into procedures or subroutines or functions such as Anglo, C and Pascal.
Procedural programming uses a list of instruction to tell the computer what to do step by step. It relies
on procedures, routines and sub routine. The procedural contents of capitation of steps to be carry ...

Object oriented programming is a programming language model organized around objects. And it
represents the concept of object that has data fields. The Object oriented programming is a type of
language that is oriented around objects. They do not base their action on the logic that manipulate the
object, but on object.
By using object oriented, you can solve problems. The object oriented language is a type of
programming that is kept in a single unit called object. Meaning that the only way user can access the
data is by using the objects methods. This can insure that the user will be incapable of corrupting the
object and also internal working can be changed without corrupting the code using the object.
Some of the limitations for this programming language are that you have to do most of the task
manually. Object oriented programming is also limited with low amount of functions as comparing to
low programming that interacts directly with hardware.

This paper should not only be of interest to P2P designers, but also to engineers at upper and lower tier
ISPs, who are interested in acquiring a thorough understanding of
P2P overlays and traΒ±c. Because P2P Β―le sharing systems can generate vast quantities of traΒ±c,
networking engineers, who dimension the network and introduce content distribution devices such as
caches, need a basic understanding of how major P2P Β―le sharing systems operate. Although there has
been recent work in analyzing the Β―le sharing workload in KaZaA [8] and [18], to our knowledge we
are the Β―rst to undertake a comprehensive study of a hierarchical unstructured overlay for a P2P
system.
The paper focuses on the KaZaA overlay network and index management. It ad dresses neither KaZaA
s downloading protocol (for example, KaZaA s parallel down loading and request queuing) nor its
incentive scheme for encouraging uploading. The paper is complementary to [8] and [18], which focus
on KaZaA Β―le sharing traΒ±c. It is also complementary to a recent measurement study on pollution in
P2P Β―le sharing systems [19].
This paper is organized as follows. Section 2 provides an overview of KaZaA.
Section 3 describes are measurement apparatus. Section 4 presents our measurement results. Section 5
sets forth basic design principles for unstructured P2P Β―le sharing applications. Section 6 surveys
related work. Finally, Section 7 summarizes our Β―ndings and concludes.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wealth In Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, it discusses the advantages and
disadvantages of wealth that are shown in today s modern society.
In Beowulf, the epic depicts an abundance of scenes of how wealth, in today s modern culture, shows
someone s power. One way the benefit of wealth is shown in Beowulf by the kings in not solely the
story but the Anglo Saxon culture. This is shown by King Hrothgar when he talks about how he
handled his enemies, saying, Finally I healed the feud by paying / I shipped a treasure trove to the
Wulfings (Heaney 470 471). Moreover, the amiable King Hrothgar pays his enemies with precious
gold from his treasure hold and he ends up settling the feud. It is displaying how being wealthy can
synthesize the jubilance a person can obtain by being so powerful that they can pay their enemies to
stop attacking them. Another way that wealth can demonstrate the power in Beowulf is when the kings
are being described. One excerpt that shows this is when King Hrothgar greets his companion,
Beowulf, saying, Then the grey haired treasure giver was glad (607). The author specifically describes
the highest powerful men in the land as treasure givers. Comparatively, this not only showcases the
Anglo Saxon cultural beliefs, but is an even greater reflection on current the population. The
wealthiest man in the world, currently, is Bill Gates with a net worth of 85.6 billion dollars (Kim). Not
only is he extremely wealthy, but his influence in

This was then measured and 85 mm was found to be the appropriate length. The core was cut for the
sliding screw without complication using a pre set reamor set at 85 mm. The tap was then used to tap
the way for the proximal screw and an 85 mm sliding screw was inserted across the fracture sight into
the head and neck without complication. A four hole 135 degree side plate was then attached. We slid
it over the depwheeze sliding screw and attached it to the proximal femur using a lommen turkey claw
clamp. With the fixation in place AP and lateral fluoroscopic images throughout the fracture sight and
hardware position confirmed good reduction and good placement of the hardware. At this point the
side plate was then secured to the proximal femur using the 3 2 drill bit to drill a hole measuring the
approximate length with the depth gauge and placing 4 5 cortical screws of the appropriate length
without complication. At this point the compression screw was inserted. All traction was left off and
the compression screw was tightened impacting the fracture nicely. All screws were then tightened
with the screwdriver. The lommen was removed, as was all hardware. Multiple views in the AP and

Kant’s Practical Imperative in the Film The Insider Essay
This principle is referred to as Kant s practical imperative and is an important principle for an ethical
system which says that each human being is an end in himself or herself. No human being should be
thought of or used merely as a means for someone else end. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand the main protagonist
of The Insider portrays himself to be a conflicted individual as he makes decisions throughout the
movie. Against an undetermined future, he ruminates about what he knows is right for example,
receiving threats, the phone ringing at odd hours. He makes most of his decisions by weighing the cost
and benefits, which may be referred to as Kant s principle the end justifies the means .Analysis of

The Kantian perspective would consider Lowell actions to be unethical, as he encourage another
person to break his promise for a greater of social good. Lowell knows the extent of the pleasure, but
not the pain. The benefits of his encouragement would uphold the honor of 60 minutes and CBS news,
protecting the public against harm. The disadvantages and the cost would result in Wigand and his
family losing all benefits from the agreement. The possible lawsuit faced against CBS and damages to
the tobacco industry and its employees. If he does not encourage Wigand, its just result in vice versa,
he would receive the benefits and the tobacco industry and employees are protected. It would costs
harm to public if they do not know the truth. In conclusion it can be seen that both Wigand and
Bergman used each other as means to one anothers end.
Not actually being in his position it would be difficult to decide to what my actual emotions would be,
based on the fact that I would be putting my family in danger to protect the public. I would have
probably done the same as it would be my moral obligation and the right thing to do. Kant s duty
based ethics says that some acts are wrong or right because of the things or situations that are related
and people have a duty to act in accordance, regardless of the good or bad consequences that may be
produced.

Sula 1. Not the town, of course, but that part of town where Negroes lived, the part they called the
Bottom in spite of the fact that it was up in the hills. (4) Paradox: The Bottom is actually up in hills,
and is predominately where former slaves reside. Slave farmers tricked their former slaves telling
them that they would give them farm land, not wanting to give away any of the fertile land, farmers
gave them the barren land in the hills. They called this land the bottom because it s in the hills and
therefore at the bottom of Heavan. These lands made the people that resided there unfruitful and
unable to provide as much as the whites down in the valleys. 2. Is? My baby? Burning? (48)

She thought she liked the sootiness of sex and it s comedy; she laughed a great deal during the raucous
beginnings, and rejected those lovers who regarded sex as healthy or beautiful. (122) Motif: Sex is the

with having multiple partners, while Nel thought of sex as a precious thing that she shared with her
husband. Nel is hurt that Sula slept with Jude, and is shocked by Sula s answer of just because. From
Sula s perspective, Nel and Sula were the best of friends that could share anything, even men, while
Nel believed if Sula really did care, why would she hurt her like that? 8. At Eva s house there were

Symbolism: The four dead robins symbolize the four people that died in Eva s house, Eva, Plum,

Development Of A Mentoring Program
Hybrid Assignment 3
In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both intellectually
and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of the organization
while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great value to any
company. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and implementing a
mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said that mentoring can
accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Even though, developing a mentoring program is not
an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program will help alleviate high
employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees.
The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or
informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic
business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert training
and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12 months (
Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program includes: 1.
Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. Self selection of mentors and mentees 4. No expert
training or support 5. Long term mentorship and 6. Indirect organizational benefits ( Business
mentoring matters , 2012).

Gospel Of Luke-Acts Essay
Luke s Gospel is known to be the last synoptic to be written. Since Luke introduced Acts, it is crucial
to date Acts before a date for Luke can be determined. Luke leaves the reader with Paul in Rome,
waiting to present his case before Caesar. Acts had been completed long before Paul s outcome was
known, this means that Acts came about in the early sixties with the Gospel of Luke being written in
the late fifties or early sixties. Luke Acts doesn t mention the destruction of Jerusalem, which is why
there are uncertainty of where Christianity fits in amongst the religions of the Roman Empire, and the
uncertainty of Jew Gentile relations at the same level as in Paul s epistles. Because of the location, it is

a better understanding of the purpose that is set and how it relates to their everyday lives. It shows
how throughout the Gospel Jesus is shown as a helper and how the parables have meaning to them.

The Great Us Economic Recession
THE GREAT US ECONOMIC RECESSION Introduction Did you know that by the end of the year
2009 the unemployment rate had increased from its average 5% to an astounding 10%? This is
because 15.3 million people became unemployed as a result of the economic recession. No shocker,
but poverty rate had also increased from 13.2% in 2008 to 14.3% in 2009. This meant that the number
of people living in poverty in the United States had increased from 39.8 million to 43.6 million. This
great increase had all happened in the span of 1 year. Something that should have taken over 10 years
only took 1 year and this is all because of the Great US recession. Also the US suicide rate had
reached its highest record since 25 years between the years 2008 09. The great US recession was a
result of foolish decisions made in the past, which then in turn lead to a slow and painful punishment
for the US economy. It was caused mainly because banks were loaning out too much money; Banks
used money which they didn t really have on paper to invest heavily into the housing market and the
stock market; the debts which the citizens were creating by using large amounts of loans to pay for
their daily expenses and to pay for expensive things became impossible to pay. Banks were loaning
out too much money If you google when the US recession began it will answer 2007. So the better
question would be when did it start to develop, because something so grand could not just have been
made overnight. The answer to

Share this article on Pinterest Expert Author Elisha Chikosi Asset allocation is one of portfolio
management s primary concerns. Asset allocation answers several questions. What risk return trade off
are we comfortable with? In other words what amount of risk are we prepared to take to make a
certain level of active return? At every level of active return there is an equivalent amount of risk.
Many portfolio managers are judged merely on the return they have achieved without subsequent
analysis of the risk they took to produce that return. This is the reason why we have seen the advent of
new rogue traders like Kweku Odoboli. These traders want to make positions that give a certain
amount of return so as to meet their stringent benchmarks. Asset allocation can be done using either
alpha or beta drivers. The alpha drivers measure the manager s skill to generate the so called active
return. Active return is the difference between the benchmark and the actual return. Alpha is more
aggressive and aims to achieve returns in excess of the stated benchmarks. Alpha drivers are normally

Understanding The Real Life Events During The Oardwalk Empire
oardwalk Empire, the show that demonstrates the real life events that occurred during the early 1920s
in Atlantic City, New Jersey, represents several intercultural communication concepts. This
historically based drama series provided through HBO was chosen because of its wide variety of
themes, conflicts, and plots driven through certain means of communication and interactions among
the characters. For instance, the communication and intercultural models observed while watching the

to the days of a lawless country, which was due to prohibition and the consumption of alcohol that was
not going to be stopped by anyone. In fact, most political servants were involved in the daily activities

Analysis Report On Management Accounting System
A management accounting system collects accounting information and converts the information to an
analysis report in order to help managers make correct decisions and let stakeholders fully understand
how the company runs. In another word, the main purpose of the management accounting system is
assessing the company s performance with the help of different measurements. Thus, management
accounting system reform should be closely linked to performance measurement. The most traditional
way to measure company s performance is comparing the historical financial figures. However, such
measure has been challenged by both academics and practitioners as the dysfunction consequences in
assessing rewards for managers and issues in capturing customer quality have been recognized. Under
this competitive environment, one traditional performance measurement may not be good enough to
fit all the businesses. In order to help businesses measure their performance accurately, the
innovations and changes may take place when designing and adopting the management accounting
system. Focusing on innovations and changes part firstly, two major schools were introduced to
companies. They are the stakeholder approach and shareholder approach, respectively. According to
the stakeholder approach, the competition on many dimensions will let the companies realize that they

The Effects Of Illegal Immigrants On The Us Economy
Illegal immigrants in the United States (US) have long been a topic of debate for policy makers and
the public. The rationale about them is that they do not pay taxes; they add to the costs of taxpayers
and use up funds in resources meant for assisting citizens and legal immigrants (the legal citizens).
Therefore, they are perceived as a threat to the US economy. The true impacts of illegal immigrants on
the US economy are discussed by debating over the economic benefits as well as economic costs of
these immigrants. The negative impacts, discussed first, presented the decreases in low skilled jobs
wage rates for legal immigrants and citizens instigated by illegal immigrants, the social services such
as educations and healthcare that they utilize and add to taxpayers. Then contrary to the negative
impacts, the positive impacts reveal benefits of low production costs, increases in the local market
sales, undocumented tax generation, impact on growth and employment brought forth by illegal
immigrants. These impacts, both negative and positive, are independently analyzed and weighed
against each other. The discussion does show a slight net positive impact on the US economy in
contrast to the normal belief about illegal immigrants. Illegal Immigrants and the United States

On The Social Order And Absolute Monarchy In The 16th And...
During the 16th and 17th centuries it is clear and evident that the centralization of power, or the
absolutism in and hierarchy, does in fact induce stability in society, however, it is also evident via the
given readings that absolutism also had its flaws which were later proved to be its downfall. It
essentially all boils down a single concept of the people versus government. This is evident in the
history of the French prior and leading up to the RΓ©volution. In addition to, the monarchy of the
English under King James VI and I s rule. As complicated as the nature of government is, when power
or authority is concentrated excessively into a single point, the society will crack by that very same
point if a healthy relationship between citizen and ruler is not established. One cannot expect to bully
and undermine one s citizens without considering the possibility that one day they will rise up against
him or her and religious masks can only be worn for so long before people recognize the hypocrisies
present within them. Both of these truths are evident as seen in the given texts. Specifically, with The
Great Cat Massacre, On The Social Order and Absolute Monarchy, by Jean Domat, and Trew Law of
Free Monarchies, King James VI I. As previously stated absolutism although effective, to an extent,

The Decline and Collapse of General Motors
The Decline and Collapse Of General Motors
ntroduction
General Motors (GM), who once dominated the automobile industry, has now plummeted, almost to
the point of extinction. Throughout the 1940 s to the 1970 s General Motors (GM) had dominated the
automobile industry. By the 1980 s, GM was suddenly facing a shift in the economy and consumer
demands.
GM s Earlier Successes
In the 1950 s, GM agreed to pay their workers well, by signing groundbreaking long term employment
union contracts which included:
workers to be the highest paid in America
pay rates were automatically increased with the rate of inflation
workers were paid during shutdown periods
extensive health coverage

GM was given the opportunity to make radical changes and regain its market leadership, they failed.
The Saturn was introduced, but has recently closed its doors.
Adam Hartung (a business advisor), says GM could have avoided its present dilemma. According to
Hartung, Smith shouldn t have opened a new division separate from the main firm. Instead he says
Smith should have focused on making dramatic changes within the existing company s labor structure,
dealer structure, and vehicles, by imitating its competitors.
GM s Demise
It was GM s arrogance that led this company to their present demise. GM had monopolized the auto
industry for so long, they thought they were infallible; believing that its competitors would never have
the resources or capability that they had. GM never considered shifts in the environment (gas prices
and a declining economy) and consumer demands for quality and fuel efficient automobiles.
Too busy with their own internal problems, like employee contracts that forced them to focus on high
profits; they had ignored and underestimated their competitors. GM has lost its share of the market.
Had they focused on the innovation they had when the company was first established, they may not be
in the situation they are in today. It appears that they had drifted away from their mission to become
and stay the leader of the automotive industry, now their paying the price. Recently, GM s stock price

Fashion s Influence On Fashion
When one thinks of a genre they think of a book or a type of music. Genre can be thought of as a
category of art. Fashion is a form of art, artists everyday are creating works that they feel people will
wear and like. Fashion is a huge industry with thousands of designers that makes billions of dollars
per year. Whether people realize it or not, every single person has a sense of style and has their own
taste in clothing. With fashion there are different genres ranging from chic to bohemian to sporty.
Along with different genres of fashion, there are different genres of brands. With these two genres
combined, an examination of the correlation of the brands with the style of fashion will be examined.
The first genre of fashion we are going to examine is a style called chic . Chic is a French word that
means classy. When the word chic crosses my mind, I picture a girl standing in the streets of New
York City dressed up from head to toe looking her finest. Most chic clothes cover the body of the
person wearing them and makes them look a bit classier than others. BB Dakota is a brand that is
considered chic, it is on the lower of the scale of prices of clothes. Most of their clothes have been
seen in top boutiques and in department stores. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift and others have been
seen wearing this brand. It was first founded 30 years ago in Southern California by a French designer.
She limits the buyers of her clothing because she wants them to be unique and

The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And...
Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and
women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the
working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor
patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum
plantations, have developed over time.
There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the
minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused
with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our
society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American
working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those
African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events
such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the
North and the South.
Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations,
yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth.
The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African
American women with a more critical perspective and understanding.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Simulation
Simulation is a software package for modeling, simulating, and analyzing dynamical systems. It
supports linear and non linear systems, modeled in continuous time, sampled time, or a hybrid of the
two. Systems can also be multi rate, i.e., have different parts that are sampled or updated at different
rates. For modeling, Simulink provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for building models as block
diagrams, using click and drag mouse operations. With this interface, you can draw the models just as
you would with pencil and paper (or as most textbooks depict them). This is a far cry from previous
simulation packages that require you to formulate differential equations in a language or program.
Simulink includes a comprehensive block library of a sinks, sources, linear and non linear

Herbs And Spices That Can Help Manage Your Diabetes
5 Herbs and Spices That Can Help Manage Your Diabetes
Meal planning is one of the most important (and sometimes frustrating) things for those with diabetes.
It can be challenging to create dishes that provide sound nutrition, limit sugar and carbohydrates, AND
taste good. But, by focusing on whole foods that incorporate a variety of herbs and spices, you ll find
you not only develop tastier dishes, but ones that can bolster your fight against diabetes.
The five herbs and spices on this list have been shown to assist in managing blood glucose levels as
well as reduce inflammation in the body, which can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes (along with
a whole host of other chronic diseases!)
Herbs and Spices Have Historically Been Used as Medicine
Herbs and spices have been used for thousands of years for their health benefits. Papyri from Ancient
Egypt spoke of fennel, juniper, coriander, cumin, garlic and thyme as health promoting spices. [1]
Ancient cuneiform records noted spice and herb use in Mesopotamia, where many aromatic plants
were traditionally used; and Sumerian medical literature dating from the 3rd millennium BC mention
various odoriferous plants, including thyme. [2]
Modern medicine is finally catching up to the ancients in realizing the health promoting benefits of
myriad herbs and spices. For instance, a study by the University of Georgia revealed that many herbs
and spices are a rich source of the antioxidant phenol, which can prevent inflammation and

Net Neutrality Argument Analysis

Utilities are not things that we agree upon are required for human life, they are necessities needed to
live as a citizen of the United States. Phone calls and electricity are not required to exist as a human,
but they are requirements to effectively live as an American, and are thus utilities. The Internet is also
something that you need to properly live and interact in the United States, to the same level as
electricity and telephone lines are, and should be considered and protected as a utility.
Erasing net neutrality would stifle innovation, and allows large ISPs to piggyback off of the prosperity
that a previously neutral Internet had. If these rules were in place before Alphabet or Facebook or
Netflix or Amazon existed, it is hard to believe those companies would have been able to secure the
funds to get through the paywall to consumers, which demonstrates that these attempts to destroy Net

ramifications to any possible future companies or the history that made certain companies

First Person Narration In The Stranger By Albert Camus
Through thoughts and conversation, one can learn a great deal about the ideals and opinions of a
person. This is also the case in literature, as authors may write in first person to allow the reader to
receive a better idea of who the main character is and what they stand for. Authors can also use such a
strategy to express their personal opinions on a topic in the text through the thoughts and actions of
their main character. Such is the case of Albert Camus and his main character in The Stranger,
Meursault. Through first person narration, Camus is able to use Meursault as a vehicle to bring focus
to religious systems in the 1940s Algerian society depicted in the novel. Two of the ways in which the
reader can see Camus views on religion in his novel is through Meursault s interactions with other
characters and through the personal thoughts of Meursault. One way in which Camus uses first person
narration to bring focus to religious systems and constructs in the 1940s Algerian society presented in
The Stranger is through Meursault s interactions with other characters on the premise of religion.

the Christian faith, the large role emotion plays in religion, and the necessity of one to belong to a

Untitled Jedi Paper When George Lucas released Star Wars in 1977, it would be reasonable to assume
he possessed some level of expectations regarding how his film saga would affect and alter the lives of
its audience. What he may not have anticipated, however, is that his fictional protagonists, the Jedi
Order, and their respective philosophies would resonate so strongly within particular individuals to
such an extent that it would provide the foundation for the establishment of a new interpretation of
reality; this philosophical movement is perceived by many as a religious movement and, to some
extent, a new religion in and of itself. Today, the church of Jediism is said to have accumulated
thousands of followers across the globe and is recorded as being the seventh largest religion in the
United Kingdom (DailyMail). While there is speculation that the census results which produced these
figures may be inconclusive due to insincere responses, it is widely accepted that Jediism is a very real
concept for many groups of individuals, one that affects their philosophical outlook as well as their
everyday life. The church of Jediism is composed of many different groups who share similar
philosophies yet have slight variations in the articulations of their doctrines. The remainder of this

Individualism In Dead Poets Society, And Dead Poet Society
Transcendentalists in the 1830s challenged society s normality. They broke stereotypes and began not
depending their actions according to others. Director Peter Weir and Author Ralph Waldo Emerson
wrote about transcendentalist s ideals of education to rebel against commonly accepted behavior.
Transecdiliasts assured and trusted themselves that the outcome is for the better. Similarly, in the film,
Dead Poets Society, Mr. John Keating teaches an English class navigating the class through the
uncertainties of life. The boys in Keating s class, discover themselves and begin to live life focusing
on their passions. Self Reliance, is an essay about expressing your individualism and overcoming the

life with no regrets, one must trust their self identity and carpe diem. For one to live a life with no

who they are and express it. In the film, Dead Poets society, people can see Mr. Keating s unquie type

Military Deployment Has Affected The Family System
Throughout many years, military deployment has affected the family system. Especially young
children are effected by their parents shipping overseas since they are still are trying to figure out how
to cope without guidance during their development into adult years. In this particular study,
researchers examined adolescents between the ages of 12 18 to determine their thoughts about their
parents going into war. More specifically, researchers wanted to study the children s experiences with
ambiguous loss within their military families. Researchers hope to find ways in prevention and
intervention in order to reduce the feeling of uncertainty within adolescents. Sociologists determined
that the ambiguous loss theory provides explanation of the youth s responses from the study. If
children are uncertain of their parent s job entitlement then it helps with grieving, but may lead to
depression and effecting future relationship with others. When parental deployment occurs, family life
becomes a catastrophe since they are present for a short time. According to Boss, it is hard to set and
organize roles and responsibilities in a family setting when one or both supervisors are frequently
away. Another factor that was a part of the research was the Double ABC X framework, created by
McCubbin and Patterson. The letter A was commonly seen during the sample where parental
deployment and other stress factors, such as getting an A on a test, bothered the adolescent. In other

The Beware Of Dog Sign Posted At Cupcakes For Kids
The Beware of Dog sign posted at Cupcakes for Kids is an absolute defense that will likely remove
Plaintiff from any liability if the Defendant files a counterclaim. According to Florida Statute Β§ 767.04
(2015), an owner is not liable, except as to a person under the age of 6 . . . if at the time of any such
injury the owner had displayed in a prominent place on his or her premises a sign easily readable
including the words Bad Dog. It is essential that the Bad Dog sign or equivalent wording must be
easily readable as well as posted in a prominent place. Carroll v. Moxley, 241 So. 2d 681 (Fla. 1970).
The sign must be easily readable meaning that the sign is legible and capable of being read, not
necessarily that the injured party must have been able to actually read and understand it. Registe v.
Porter, 557 So. 2d 214 (Fla. 2d DCA 1990).
In order to be relieved of liability, an owner must have a prominently placed Bad Dog sign that is
easily readable. In Carroll, the court held that the purpose of having a prominently placed sign that is
easily readable is to give actual notice of the risk of a bite to the victim. Carroll, 241 So. 2d at 682.
The owner of the store in Carroll had a Beware of Dog sign beside the counter of the hardware store.
Id. As the victim stood at the counter, the unseen dog lunged out and bit her on the face. Id. The victim
filed suit against the dog owner and the court found that there was no liability because a Bad Dog sign
was posted.

Use Of Mirrors In Renaissance Art
The mirrors in the Renaissance art also have diverse, positive meanings. It also exemplifies allegorical
figures of prudence and truths were usually imagined carrying mirrors. However, the mirror was also
associated with the negative values, for example, those associated with the myths of Narcissus. Vanity
and Deception were the major connotations illustrated by the mirror during the Renaissance period,
and they have been used in the contemporary world. A major way in which the artists can make use of
the mirror is to indicate aspects that people cannot see; it is a reflection of an object and individual
outside the scope of painting. Leonardo described the mirror as the master of painters. Leonardo
wrote, Painters often despair of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is easy to speculate the different meanings of the artwork by the position of the body and the
mirrors. For example, a woman looking straight out to the viewer with the mirror turned away could
symbolize the woman has something to hide. The woman s back turned towards the viewer with the
mirrors reflection straight on could symbolize vanity. Or in the case of Triptych of Earthly Vanity and
Divine Salvation the woman and mirror could both be visible to the viewer to show she is openly vain.
And as stated previously a woman s back reflected in the mirror could show impurity. Mirrors in art
tend to be extraordinary, and it is not fanciful to believe that the development of the glass mirror is
based on civilization although it can also be altered by the whole perception of human beings. The
glass mirrors have affected the transformation referred as the Renaissance

Essay on China s Air Pollution Conundrum
Choking To Death: China s Air Pollution Conundrum Long gone are the days when China is mostly
rural with a population consisting of farmers. In the late 1970s, Deng Xiaoping loosened the controls
on economic life, and began a period known as reform and opening. China has not looked back, and
industries continue to develop and millions of people migrate to cities to work in one of the many
factories. China is experiencing record breaking economic expansion. They are one of the world s
largest manufacturers and exporters. However, the citizens of China are living in extremely unhealthy
conditions. The air they breathe in on a daily basis is horrifying and inescapable. The main reason for
this is that China depends primarily on coal. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a 97% increase in China s industrial production since 2007, reaching a value of $3.7 trillion
(Ross). This historic, exponential growth over the past decade is mainly because of monstrous
expansion of industry and urbanization. However, this requires a tremendous use of energy, most of
which China generates from coal, the most readily available, yet dirtiest, source.
Coal is a cheap, yet harmful, fossil fuel for generating electricity and China is home to one of the
world s largest coal reserves. China burns four billion tons of coal each year, more than the United
States, Europe, and Japan combined (Kahn and Yardley). Most homes, power plants, and factories run
on energy from coal. In fact, 70% of China s energy three quarters of electricity generation come from
coal (Larson). These energy requirements are remarkably high because China must power its heavy
industry plants. China s steel makers, for instance, use approximately one fifth more energy per ton
than the national average, and cement makers require 45% more power. Furthermore, the amount of
energy consumed by the aluminum industry is comparable to the amount used by the entire country s
commercial sector (Kahn and Yardley).
In comparison to the rest of the world, Chinese factories are inferior. Many do not operate or control
pollution efficiently, which aggravates the pollution problem even more. Few coal driven power plants

Economic Changes In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a very special time for our nation that took place from the 1870s to around 1900.
During this time, economic growth was at a rapid increase, politics were corrupted yet had high
turnouts, and urbanization flourished. Every aspect of the life of an American changed drastically
throughout this time of the Gilded Age. The entire era was focused on the enormous changes that each
aspect of America was going through. As this is brought to attention, if we are to look into the way
that America is in our time of today, we can find that there are many similarities to that of the original
Gilded Age. The United States of America have currently found themselves to be experiencing the
second era of the Gilded Age throughout the areas of economic, politic and social transformation.
During the first Gilded Age that occurred in the late 1800s, economic growth was at an all time high.
At this time, the wages that were given to American were at an increased rate compared to that of the
wages that were given in Europe. Due to this, an abundant amount of European immigrants came over
to the United States because of this inflated wage. These economic advances were due to that of
several technological advances that had come about in this time. The industrial production
skyrocketed, which, in turn, made for increased economic wealth for Americans. Similarly, to this
time, America in this day and age is experiencing its own expansion in economy. Tax breaks in today s

The Pros And Cons Of Offshore Drilling
Offshore drilling is a topic of extreme debate and argument and one of the most debated parts of that
is whether or not it benefits the economy in the U.S. One of the first things to note is that stopping
offshore drilling could potentially damage the U.S. economy, and therefore how much energy we can
overall use. According to Mason, Joseph R., author of, The Oil Industry Supports Many Louisiana and
Gulf Region Economies , we can see the statement, the moratorium would produce broad economic
losses within the Gulf and throughout the nation as a whole . We can gather, from this, that ceasing
offshore drilling/offshore oil production, could potentially harm the U.S. economy, and as I said
before the economy being damaged overall decides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that argue against the statement that offshore drilling benefits the economy say that the
potential damage from the BP blowout had the costs estimated at $2.2 billion with the highest possible
adjustments, paraphrased from the paper written by Bailey, Ronald, titled Offshore Drilling Remains a
Risk worth Economy . Contrary to what the title states, just by looking at the summary of a passage
from the text, it s clear that offshore drilling can really hurt the economy through damaging the
environment, and that it is not a sound decision to continue because of the chance of a spill. The
second point they argue against is whether or not offshore drilling really lowers energy prices in the
U.S. From the article written by Hassett, Kevin A., titled Offshore Drilling Will Lower Energy Prices ,
a quote from President Barrack Obama is referenced, Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices
today, it would not lower gas prices five years from now. President Barrack Obama. The president
believes that energy prices will not lower because of offshore drilling even in the future. The third and
final point that some would argue against, is offshore

Similarities and Differences in Parent and Child...
Children are like fingerprints, not one is the same as another. Appearance, personality, and the pace at
which we develop are unique to each person. Although individuality is celebrated, new parents are
often eager to pick out characteristics of their children that are similar to their own. They may notice
their infant has the same vibrant, red hair as his mother or loves reading as much as his father. Such
similarities and differences between a parent and a child can be caused by a variety of reasons. In this
paper I will explore two broad categories, environmental factors and inherited characteristics, as the
basis of these characteristic variations. Carson had a normal, natural birth with a labor time of about
ten hours. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Carson, I feel I made a conscious effort to try and foster language development as much as
possible even when he was an infant simply by having conversations with him during daily routines
and exposing him to language. As he grew older, I encouraged him to interact with the environment by
taking him to new places and engaging with him and the toys he was using. Furthermore, studies have
found there is a genetic link to verbal abilities (which is also correlated with verbal intelligence). In
one study it was concluded that the genetic influences on verbal intelligence become more significant
over one s lifetime in explaining differences between individuals, whereas environmental factors
decrease (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Additionally, twin and adoption studies
on verbal memory and fluency in early childhood (as well as adulthood) show that there are moderate
to strong genetic influences (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Similarly, one reason
Carson s temperament could be parallel to my own is the concept of passive gene environment
correlation. This is the idea that parents pass on genes to their child and consequently create an
environment that enhances these characteristics (Price, Jaffee, 2008). A 2008 study investigating the
effects of passive gene environment correlation defines it as children inheriting exposure to family
environments (Price, Jaffee, 2008). For instance, if I was

  • 2. Utilitarianism In Criminal Justice Considering the three variations of consequentialist ethics, ethical egoism, contractualism, and utilitarianism: How does these three areas of ethics effect achieving positive means and ends in the criminal justice system? This week s discussion seems to be very interesting and can be looked at many different ways, as we explore the ethical framework we start with consequentialist ethics. This deals with three (3) things, ethical egoism, contractualism, and utilitarianism. This type of ethics asks the following questions: What will happen if I do a certain act? Who will be affected and how would this affect them? How would other alternatives or decisions affect or producer different outcomes (Arrigo Williams, 2008, p. 145)? Something that I found fascinating that should opened up the discussion is the issue that was discussed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good example of this would be something to the effect if you support a certain political candidate with contributions and work with agreements made in the form of jobs, promotions that act would be wrong in that sense. Utilitarianism, this type is very simple and is purely based on happiness, it tends to maximizes all the good in something and minimize all the bad in the act. We all have the desire to be happy and considered this to be the ultimate goal and happiness factor (Arrigo Williams, 2008, p. 146). • 3. Theme Of Human Nature In Brave New World After observing the novel Brave New World along with an article titled, Catholic Church Corrupt To Its Core, Says Survivor one can conjure the idea that human nature will always persevere. Since the birth of mankind this concept has been instilled in the minds of people. It is the nature of humanity to feel uncontrollable emotions and feelings that promote certain actions. This ranges from undergoing a state of overwhelming rage to possessing a heightened amount of fear to becoming engulfed in jealousy. These are undeniable traits of humans as seen in Brave New World because of the key figures in the novel that despite HypnopΓ¦dia and childhood conditioning, enact elements of innate emotions. When viewing Bernard Marx, one sees that he is different from the other Alphas and quite frankly, the rest of the population. He continuously experiences jealousy of Henry Foster s intimacy with Lenina and sadness that his physical shape is deformed. From birth, children become conditioned to be happy and not to experience these emotions since it could potentially cause social instability. No matter the amount of soma Bernard consumes, he always finds a way to come back to these strong desires of love and depression. The reader can also observe Helmholtz Watson s ambition to write rhymes that have more significant and influential meaning. Watson was predestined to cease from thinking about creating literature that disrupts society as he expresses, ...I ve got something important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rice Paddies And Bologn Malcom Gladwell s Broad... Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and social predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that Gladwell s hypotheses are not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide adequate examples and counterarguments to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very unconvincing argument. Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are mostly overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are loosely based, overly generalized, and unreliable. Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes, success is a concept that can be different to many different groups of people. Gladwell insists that success is formulated through a series of hidden advantages and cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many do not become successful. I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition and hard work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own hands and create their own success. Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would be the two chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With Geniuses Part Two . In these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with an IQ higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Difference Between Object Oriented And Object-Driven... Unit 6 Assignment by Ali Shafiq (P1 P2) In programming, there are three different types of paradigms that we use in programming. And they are procedural, object oriented and event driven programming paradigms. Procedural Language Procedural programming is a programming paradigm which is derived from structured programming and it is based upon the concept of the procedure call such as where you can keep a record of procedure call programs. It s also a list or set of instructions telling a computer what to do step by step. Also tell the computer how to perform from the first code to the second code. The program can be broken into procedures or subroutines or functions such as Anglo, C and Pascal. Procedural programming uses a list of instruction to tell the computer what to do step by step. The Object oriented programming is a type of language that is oriented around objects. They do not base their action on the logic that manipulate the object, but on object. By using object oriented, you can solve problems. The object oriented language is a type of programming that is kept in a single unit called object. Meaning that the only way user can access the data is by using the objects methods. This can insure that the user will be incapable of corrupting the object and also internal working can be changed without corrupting the code using the object. Some of the limitations for this programming language are that you have to do most of the task manually. Object oriented programming is also limited with low amount of functions as comparing to low programming that interacts directly with hardware. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wealth In Beowulf In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of wealth that are shown in today s modern society. In Beowulf, the epic depicts an abundance of scenes of how wealth, in today s modern culture, shows someone s power. One way the benefit of wealth is shown in Beowulf by the kings in not solely the story but the Anglo Saxon culture. This is shown by King Hrothgar when he talks about how he handled his enemies, saying, Finally I healed the feud by paying / I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings (Heaney 470 471). Moreover, the amiable King Hrothgar pays his enemies with precious gold from his treasure hold and he ends up settling the feud. It is displaying how being wealthy can synthesize the jubilance a person can obtain by being so powerful that they can pay their enemies to stop attacking them. Another way that wealth can demonstrate the power in Beowulf is when the kings are being described. One excerpt that shows this is when King Hrothgar greets his companion, Beowulf, saying, Then the grey haired treasure giver was glad (607). The author specifically describes the highest powerful men in the land as treasure givers. Comparatively, this not only showcases the Anglo Saxon cultural beliefs, but is an even greater reflection on current the population. The wealthiest man in the world, currently, is Bill Gates with a net worth of 85.6 billion dollars (Kim). Not only is he extremely wealthy, but his influence in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Development Of A Mentoring Program Hybrid Assignment 3 In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both intellectually and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of the organization while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great value to any company. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and implementing a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said that mentoring can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Even though, developing a mentoring program is not an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program will help alleviate high employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees. Connection to a strategic business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert training and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. • 17. The Great Us Economic Recession THE GREAT US ECONOMIC RECESSION Introduction Did you know that by the end of the year 2009 the unemployment rate had increased from its average 5% to an astounding 10%? This is because 15.3 million people became unemployed as a result of the economic recession. No shocker, but poverty rate had also increased from 13.2% in 2008 to 14.3% in 2009. This meant that the number of people living in poverty in the United States had increased from 39.8 million to 43.6 million. This great increase had all happened in the span of 1 year. Something that should have taken over 10 years only took 1 year and this is all because of the Great US recession. Also the US suicide rate had reached its highest record since 25 years between the years 2008 09. The great US recession was a result of foolish decisions made in the past, which then in turn lead to a slow and painful punishment for the US economy. It was caused mainly because banks were loaning out too much money; Banks used money which they didn t really have on paper to invest heavily into the housing market and the stock market; the debts which the citizens were creating by using large amounts of loans to pay for their daily expenses and to pay for expensive things became impossible to pay. Asset allocation answers several questions. What risk return trade off are we comfortable with? In other words what amount of risk are we prepared to take to make a certain level of active return? At every level of active return there is an equivalent amount of risk. Many portfolio managers are judged merely on the return they have achieved without subsequent analysis of the risk they took to produce that return. This is the reason why we have seen the advent of new rogue traders like Kweku Odoboli. These traders want to make positions that give a certain amount of return so as to meet their stringent benchmarks. Asset allocation can be done using either alpha or beta drivers. The alpha drivers measure the manager s skill to generate the so called active return. Active return is the difference between the benchmark and the actual return. Alpha is more aggressive and aims to achieve returns in excess of the stated benchmarks. Alpha drivers are normally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, management accounting system reform should be closely linked to performance measurement. The most traditional way to measure company s performance is comparing the historical financial figures. However, such measure has been challenged by both academics and practitioners as the dysfunction consequences in assessing rewards for managers and issues in capturing customer quality have been recognized. Under this competitive environment, one traditional performance measurement may not be good enough to fit all the businesses. In order to help businesses measure their performance accurately, the innovations and changes may take place when designing and adopting the management accounting system. Focusing on innovations and changes part firstly, two major schools were introduced to companies. They are the stakeholder approach and shareholder approach, respectively. • 22. The Effects Of Illegal Immigrants On The Us Economy Illegal immigrants in the United States (US) have long been a topic of debate for policy makers and the public. The rationale about them is that they do not pay taxes; they add to the costs of taxpayers and use up funds in resources meant for assisting citizens and legal immigrants (the legal citizens). Therefore, they are perceived as a threat to the US economy. The true impacts of illegal immigrants on the US economy are discussed by debating over the economic benefits as well as economic costs of these immigrants. The negative impacts, discussed first, presented the decreases in low skilled jobs wage rates for legal immigrants and citizens instigated by illegal immigrants, the social services such as educations and healthcare that they utilize and add to taxpayers. Then contrary to the negative impacts, the positive impacts reveal benefits of low production costs, increases in the local market sales, undocumented tax generation, impact on growth and employment brought forth by illegal immigrants. These impacts, both negative and positive, are independently analyzed and weighed against each other. The discussion does show a slight net positive impact on the US economy in contrast to the normal belief about illegal immigrants. • 23. On The Social Order And Absolute Monarchy In The 16th And... During the 16th and 17th centuries it is clear and evident that the centralization of power, or the absolutism in and hierarchy, does in fact induce stability in society, however, it is also evident via the given readings that absolutism also had its flaws which were later proved to be its downfall. It essentially all boils down a single concept of the people versus government. This is evident in the history of the French prior and leading up to the RΓ©volution. In addition to, the monarchy of the English under King James VI and I s rule. As complicated as the nature of government is, when power or authority is concentrated excessively into a single point, the society will crack by that very same point if a healthy relationship between citizen and ruler is not established. One cannot expect to bully and undermine one s citizens without considering the possibility that one day they will rise up against him or her and religious masks can only be worn for so long before people recognize the hypocrisies present within them. Both of these truths are evident as seen in the given texts. Specifically, with The Great Cat Massacre, On The Social Order and Absolute Monarchy, by Jean Domat, and Trew Law of Free Monarchies, King James VI I. As previously stated absolutism although effective, to an extent, also possesses its flaws of religious gerrymandering and hypocrisy. Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum plantations, have developed over time. There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the North and the South. Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations, yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth. • 37. First Person Narration In The Stranger By Albert Camus Through thoughts and conversation, one can learn a great deal about the ideals and opinions of a person. This is also the case in literature, as authors may write in first person to allow the reader to receive a better idea of who the main character is and what they stand for. Authors can also use such a strategy to express their personal opinions on a topic in the text through the thoughts and actions of their main character. Such is the case of Albert Camus and his main character in The Stranger, Meursault. Through first person narration, Camus is able to use Meursault as a vehicle to bring focus to religious systems in the 1940s Algerian society depicted in the novel. Two of the ways in which the reader can see Camus views on religion in his novel is through Meursault s interactions with other characters and through the personal thoughts of Meursault. Companies also should t underestimate the market presented by the country s most affluent consumers : those earning $21,890 a year in 2000 dollar terms, or $117,650 in terms of PPP. That group will total 24 million in 2025, more than the current population of Australia. By that year too, India s affluent class will be larger than China s comparable segment, ... • 45. Use Of Mirrors In Renaissance Art The mirrors in the Renaissance art also have diverse, positive meanings. It also exemplifies allegorical figures of prudence and truths were usually imagined carrying mirrors. However, the mirror was also associated with the negative values, for example, those associated with the myths of Narcissus. Vanity and Deception were the major connotations illustrated by the mirror during the Renaissance period, and they have been used in the contemporary world. A major way in which the artists can make use of the mirror is to indicate aspects that people cannot see; it is a reflection of an object and individual outside the scope of painting. Leonardo described the mirror as the master of painters. Leonardo wrote, Painters often despair of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is easy to speculate the different meanings of the artwork by the position of the body and the mirrors. For example, a woman looking straight out to the viewer with the mirror turned away could symbolize the woman has something to hide. The woman s back turned towards the viewer with the mirrors reflection straight on could symbolize vanity. Or in the case of Triptych of Earthly Vanity and Divine Salvation the woman and mirror could both be visible to the viewer to show she is openly vain. And as stated previously a woman s back reflected in the mirror could show impurity. Mirrors in art tend to be extraordinary, and it is not fanciful to believe that the development of the glass mirror is based on civilization although it can also be altered by the whole perception of human beings. • 46. Essay on China s Air Pollution Conundrum Choking To Death: China s Air Pollution Conundrum Long gone are the days when China is mostly rural with a population consisting of farmers. In the late 1970s, Deng Xiaoping loosened the controls on economic life, and began a period known as reform and opening. China has not looked back, and industries continue to develop and millions of people migrate to cities to work in one of the many factories. China is experiencing record breaking economic expansion. They are one of the world s largest manufacturers and exporters. However, the citizens of China are living in extremely unhealthy conditions. The air they breathe in on a daily basis is horrifying and inescapable. The main reason for this is that China depends primarily on coal. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a 97% increase in China s industrial production since 2007, reaching a value of $3.7 trillion (Ross). This historic, exponential growth over the past decade is mainly because of monstrous expansion of industry and urbanization. However, this requires a tremendous use of energy, most of which China generates from coal, the most readily available, yet dirtiest, source. Coal is a cheap, yet harmful, fossil fuel for generating electricity and China is home to one of the world s largest coal reserves. China burns four billion tons of coal each year, more than the United States, Europe, and Japan combined (Kahn and Yardley). Most homes, power plants, and factories run on energy from coal. In fact, 70% of China s energy three quarters of electricity generation come from coal (Larson). These energy requirements are remarkably high because China must power its heavy industry plants. China s steel makers, for instance, use approximately one fifth more energy per ton than the national average, and cement makers require 45% more power. Furthermore, the amount of energy consumed by the aluminum industry is comparable to the amount used by the entire country s commercial sector (Kahn and Yardley). In comparison to the rest of the world, Chinese factories are inferior. Many do not operate or control pollution efficiently, which aggravates the pollution problem even more. Few coal driven power plants use modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Economic Changes In The Gilded Age The Gilded Age was a very special time for our nation that took place from the 1870s to around 1900. During this time, economic growth was at a rapid increase, politics were corrupted yet had high turnouts, and urbanization flourished. Every aspect of the life of an American changed drastically throughout this time of the Gilded Age. The entire era was focused on the enormous changes that each aspect of America was going through. As this is brought to attention, if we are to look into the way that America is in our time of today, we can find that there are many similarities to that of the original Gilded Age. The United States of America have currently found themselves to be experiencing the second era of the Gilded Age throughout the areas of economic, politic and social transformation. During the first Gilded Age that occurred in the late 1800s, economic growth was at an all time high. At this time, the wages that were given to American were at an increased rate compared to that of the wages that were given in Europe. Due to this, an abundant amount of European immigrants came over to the United States because of this inflated wage. These economic advances were due to that of several technological advances that had come about in this time. The industrial production skyrocketed, which, in turn, made for increased economic wealth for Americans. Similarly, to this time, America in this day and age is experiencing its own expansion in economy. Tax breaks in today s world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Pros And Cons Of Offshore Drilling Offshore drilling is a topic of extreme debate and argument and one of the most debated parts of that is whether or not it benefits the economy in the U.S. One of the first things to note is that stopping offshore drilling could potentially damage the U.S. economy, and therefore how much energy we can overall use. According to Mason, Joseph R., author of, The Oil Industry Supports Many Louisiana and Gulf Region Economies , we can see the statement, the moratorium would produce broad economic losses within the Gulf and throughout the nation as a whole . We can gather, from this, that ceasing offshore drilling/offshore oil production, could potentially harm the U.S. economy, and as I said before the economy being damaged overall decides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that argue against the statement that offshore drilling benefits the economy say that the potential damage from the BP blowout had the costs estimated at $2.2 billion with the highest possible adjustments, paraphrased from the paper written by Bailey, Ronald, titled Offshore Drilling Remains a Risk worth Economy . Contrary to what the title states, just by looking at the summary of a passage from the text, it s clear that offshore drilling can really hurt the economy through damaging the environment, and that it is not a sound decision to continue because of the chance of a spill. The second point they argue against is whether or not offshore drilling really lowers energy prices in the U.S. From the article written by Hassett, Kevin A., titled Offshore Drilling Will Lower Energy Prices , a quote from President Barrack Obama is referenced, Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices today, it would not lower gas prices five years from now. President Barrack Obama. The president believes that energy prices will not lower because of offshore drilling even in the future. • 49. Similarities and Differences in Parent and Child... Children are like fingerprints, not one is the same as another. Appearance, personality, and the pace at which we develop are unique to each person. Although individuality is celebrated, new parents are often eager to pick out characteristics of their children that are similar to their own. They may notice their infant has the same vibrant, red hair as his mother or loves reading as much as his father. Such similarities and differences between a parent and a child can be caused by a variety of reasons. In this paper I will explore two broad categories, environmental factors and inherited characteristics, as the basis of these characteristic variations. Carson had a normal, natural birth with a labor time of about ten hours. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Carson, I feel I made a conscious effort to try and foster language development as much as possible even when he was an infant simply by having conversations with him during daily routines and exposing him to language. As he grew older, I encouraged him to interact with the environment by taking him to new places and engaging with him and the toys he was using. Furthermore, studies have found there is a genetic link to verbal abilities (which is also correlated with verbal intelligence). In one study it was concluded that the genetic influences on verbal intelligence become more significant over one s lifetime in explaining differences between individuals, whereas environmental factors decrease (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Additionally, twin and adoption studies on verbal memory and fluency in early childhood (as well as adulthood) show that there are moderate to strong genetic influences (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Similarly, one reason Carson s temperament could be parallel to my own is the concept of passive gene environment correlation. This is the idea that parents pass on genes to their child and consequently create an environment that enhances these characteristics (Price, Jaffee, 2008). A 2008 study investigating the effects of passive gene environment correlation defines it as children inheriting exposure to family environments (Price, Jaffee, 2008). For instance, if I was ...
