From The Aeneid Analysis
As a student who is bestowed on Latin for three years, the works from nearly two thousand years
ago always held a fascination over me. Through Caesar s campaign of the Gallic War, the bravery
and astuteness of Caesar are portrayed incisively. I profoundly admire the art of Cicero s public
oration and rhetoric after reading The First Catilinarian Speech; the Dream of Scipio makes me
contemplate the meaning of life and the ultimate nature of the universe. From the Aeneid by Virgil, I
am struck by the arduous journey of Aeneas and the irresistible power of fortune. As I analyze the
sentences and phrases of these ancient wisdoms, the beauty of the structure and the subtle
interpretation of phrases interest me. And as I dive into the words and the stems, I am surprised at
how sophisticated and in the meanwhile how logical this language is. It is a quirk that people think
Latin is a monotonous and dead language. In fact, Latin is such a logical and transformative; it is
the foundation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This program will not only give me a deeper connection and interpretation to the previous works
that I read, but it will also become a solid foundation of my Latin carrier. With a profound
understanding of the Roman history, I am able to have an essential realization of the Romans and
their society. After learning the social norms of the Romans, I am able to hold a moral
understanding concerning their values and identities. Learning the military and laws of Rome, I
will have a chance to experience diversity, pragmatism, and glory of the Roman Empire. And more
importantly, I will learn how to approach and analyze sources with a critical mind and look at
other cultures with a fair and open mind. These skills are crucial not only for me as a student, but

The Prince Of Tide Savannah Character Analysis
In the story, The Prince of Tide, by Pat Conroy, Savannah and her family experienced many
traumatic events. Savannah has managed to take it the hardest, and has a hard time getting away
from it, no matter how much she tries. When she attempts to commit suicide multiple times in her
life, her twin brother, Tom, takes time out of his own life to relive his life with Savannah s
psychiatrist, Dr. Susan Lowenstein, in order to try to save Savannah. This being said with the
number of traumatic experiences she has been through, Savannah has many great qualities, such as
being determined, a survivor and sensitive relating to her character.
One of the major qualities that affect Savannah is that she is extremely sensitive. Savannah suffers
from schizophrenic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Savannah managed to stay alive through everything she went through growing up. As she aged
Savannah was abused by her father on a daily basis. When she was 18, Savannah, her mother, and
her twin brother were all raped by 3 men. Another factor that plays a part in her being a survivor
would have to be the fact that she tries to commit suicide multiple times and somehow managed to
pull through. On page 117 Luke is talking to his father saying Why are you so mean? Why do
you have to hurt Mama? Why do you want to beat up on a nice little kid like Tom? (Conroy, 117)
it shows how frightened they are of their father and how they don t understand why he is doing
what he is. These are some of the factors that play part in the reason that Savannah is a survivor.
Throughout the story, The Prince of Tides, Savannah played somewhat of a major role. From
being in Tom s memories to being the reason Tom is going back to relive these memories,
Savannah has a tie to almost all the events through the story. Savannah also has many great qualities
that play a major role in her character such as, being determined, sensitive, and a

Convertible Bond Funds invest in bonds that can be converted into preferred or common stock.
The benefit is that if an issuing company performs well after the issuance of the convertibles, the
fund will be able to gain by converting the bonds into the now more valuable stock.
Advantages to Issuing Companies
Lower interest rate on its debt The fund is, in effect, substituting the certain stream on interest
payments for the uncertainty of the growth prospects for the uncertainty of the growth prospects of
company that issues the bonds.
They represent potential common stock This future common stock feature may be desirable for a
firm that currently needs equity capital for an investment but does not want to issue common stock
immediately because of the potential dilution before the investment begins generating earnings.
Advantages to Investors
They provide the upside potential of common stock and the downside protection of a bond The
upside potential occurs because convertible bonds contain an option to buy stock by simply
surrendering the bond. If the stock price increases, the convertible bonds gain in value due to the
increase in value of the stock into which it can be converted. The downside protection occurs
because, irrespective of what happens to the stock, the price fo the bond will not decline below
what it would be worth as a straight bond.

Pythagoras Had Viewed Music As A Science And Believed That...
Pythagoras had viewed music as a science and believed that all could be understood through
equations and ratios. In fact, a pythagorean dream would be to reduce the whole understanding of
the world to number. But, despite Pythagoras, some philosophers and musicians views might differ.
In the 20th century, a series of musicians experimented with thoughts of what musicwas. Of the
many, Theodor Adorno, Milton Babbitt, and Glenn Gould all express influential thoughts on the
subject in differing ways. First, Theodor Adorno introduces the Aesthetic Theory, which is anchored
by the philosophic study of art. Adorno speaks not only on the focuses of base aesthetic
preoccupations such as function of beauty and greatness in art, but he also speaks on the
relationship between art and society. He feels that modern art shouldn t be limited by the restraints
of simply needing to appease the popular or wealthy. A separation from these restrictions would lead
to an expanded critical capacity and increased formal autonomy. Consequently, this newfound
autonomy, though freeing, would give artists a responsibility for social commentary. However,
Adorno does not imply that politicized art is the best that can come from art. There is a more
abstract truth content that can be created. Truth content is when art challenges ideals or beliefs or
hints at how life could be improved upon without actually changing anything. He focuses on the
truth content of the art instead of the subject

Amazon Rainforest Research Paper
( Introduction )
Planet Earth is home to many things. It s home to humans, animals, plants, bacteria, living, non

are many biomes, environments and ecosystems in existence. Forest ecosystems are full of life,
whether it s animals or plants. They all have different traits and characteristics such as climate
/temperature and location. The Amazon Rainforest is an example of a type of forest.

Carson Silent Spring Analysis
Carson s introduction to her Silent Spring portrays the utter destruction of the environment caused
by us humans disdain towards nature through our constant use of pesticides; therefore, she urges
her audience to recognize the significance of maintaining the health of our environment lest we
want to live in her bleak description of our future Earth. Carson opens up with the juxtaposition of
two worlds: one beautiful and untouched, and one deserted and barren. Her change in diction from
positive to malign illustrates the contrast, going from words like prosperous and beauty to blight,
death, and sickness. By showing the complete opposite sides of the spectrum, Carson exemplifies
how ruinous the use of pesticides is on the environment,

Summary Of Submission By Amy Waldman
The attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11th left the country a divided nation. A
majority seemed to fear anyone who looked different than what they claimed an American should
look like. In the novel the Submission written by Amy Waldman, we can see the feelings of
survivor families shift after they find out a United Statescitizen with loose ties to the Muslim
religion has won the memorial competition. From their perspective, it felt as if it were a defeat to
the whole purpose of the memorial. But from the winner s perspective, he just wanted to try and
bring the country together with a memorial that they could all appreciate. In a situation like this it
would be difficult to find a side to support due to the fact that they are

Roman Entertainment
Introduction Ancient Romans, like the Greeks, loved entertainment. Their idea of entertainment
was usually something involving death and drama. They liked to watch plays, watch gladiators,
participate or watch games, and watch or participate in animal hunts. Colosseum Events The
Colosseum is a famous arena that s still partly standing today. This arena could seat over 50,000
people. On hot days, a canopy was raised over the Colosseum to protect the viewers from the heat.
In the Colosseum, many events were held for the Romans to watch. Watching was free so that
everyone could come. The events held almost always involved death and destruction. There were

It could hold 300,000 people and was filled almost completely with dirt. It was oval in shape and
made during the time of an Etruscan king. Charioteers, even ones that were slaves, that won in
Circus Maximus became so rich that they were richer than emperors. The track could hold
twelve chariots and had gates the chariots started in. The gates and track were arranged so that
all the chariots had to go the same distance around the track. The chariots were light and usually
led by four horses. They also usually ran seven laps around the track and there were many sharp
turns, so it was very dangerous and the charioteers sometimes fell off. This is why charioteers
wore helmets and carried a dagger, so they could cut the reins, which were tied around their chest,
in case the chariot tipped. The spectators usually liked the danger more than the racing.
Celebrations held in Circus Maximus had acrobats and dancers, plus vendors selling honey cakes
to the audience. There were many animals, such as lions, camels, tigers, bulls, and crocodiles.
Jugglers and fire eaters also performed. In the center, there were fountains with red and blue water.
The celebrations were held before the chariot races, which were very serious. Roman Theater Plays
were put on in the morning and afternoon. All the actors were male. In the early days, they wore
simple costumes and makeup. Later, they had more elaborate costumes with wigs and masks.

Using Quality Function Deployment in Software Requirements...
USING QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT IN SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
SPECIFICATION Abstract. We present in this paper an approach to requirements specification
based on quality function deployment (QFD). We discuss how techniques like QFD with
accompanying tool support can contribute to the development of high quality requirements models
that are the basis for information systems that are perceived as valuable by the stakeholders of the
systems. Based on the practical application of this technique on a number of information systems
projects, including both traditional development projects and the implementation of packaged
solutions, it is our experience that the quality of requirements specifications can be improved by
using this technique,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different toolВ–support is available, going from simple spreadsheets to more advanced
groupware tools which enable a larger proportion of the stakeholders to participate actively in the
process. In the next section, we give an overview of the SQFD technique. Then we evaluated the
technique based on experiences using it in different kinds of projects. We have evaluated the
approach on to what extent it can help in the process of creating requirements models of high
quality. We conclude the paper pointing to future work as we get further practical experience with
the use of the technique and tools. 2 Overview of SQFD QFD was first introduced in Japan by
Akao in 1966. Since 1984 a number of companies have used QFD with cross functional teams and
concurrent engineering to improve their products, and product or service development process [24],
including the development of software [8]. Yearly, several major international conferences are held
on the subject, see e.g. [4] for a current overview of the breath of problem areas attacked with QFD.
SQFD [19] focuses on improving the software development process by implementing quality
improvement techniques during requirements specification. In order to satisfy the stakeholders
under the constraints faced by a project, it is necessary to concentrate the best efforts on those
things of greatest importance. To do this requires that the project team during requirements
specification obtains the

Pennies Lab Report
Pennies made before 1982 and the pennies that were made after them create a significant
difference. Pennies made before 1982 are made of copper (Warnick 1). Due to the change of the
of the metals over the time period it must of caused a change in the pennies mass. Therefore, the
density of pennies created before 1982 and the pennies produced today have different densities.
Density can also be used to identify unknown substances Density is defined as the ratio of mass to
volume (Lab: A PennyFor Your Thoughts). The density of a matter is equal to the mass divided
into the volume. The mass of a matter or object can be found by using a scale. Furthermore, the
volume can be found using the method of water displacement. The purpose of finding... Show more

For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance
and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the
experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies
were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to
create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of
post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal
zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment,
the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found
by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five
trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find
the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was
7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the
density that was discovered. For example, reading the water measurement slightly wrong when
using water displacement to find the volume of the pennies or not placing the pennies correctly in
the cylinder which could create air pockets .Due to the close difference between the

Essay on Great Britain Rise as the Global Leader of the...
When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to
power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century.
Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy
Roman Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and
the development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the
ranks. While much of continental Europe was seeking to strengthen their absolute monarchies and
centralized style of governing, in the 17th and 18th centuries Great Britain was making significant
political changes that reflected the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment.... Show more content on

Under the Bill of Rights, Parliament would have a say over the direction the monarchy was taking
the country, that the royal power to suspend and eliminate laws was abolished, that the monarchs
were prohibited to levy taxes and the monarchy could not maintain a standing army in peacetime
without first going through Parliament (Glorious Revolution) . The addition of the Bill of Rights to
England s constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests
and whims of the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great
Britain and the idea of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social
welfare, encouraged by the Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary
moved forward with their government by implementing new, modern economic policies which
placed more focus on the merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the
British empire, John Locke was busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its
people and vice versa. Chiefly influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious
Revolution, Locke published his revolutionary work Two Treatises. In this essay, Locke argued that
the reason for the whole existence of governmental authority is to protect the civil liberties and
freedoms of the governed. Locke s named this agreement the social contract and stated

Many of these different employment laws interested me, however, the Family and Medical

did not have to advise his current employer of his schedule of return to work. There was

Silent Hill, Directed By Christophe Gans
As Stephen King once said Our emotions and our fears form their own body, and we recognize
that it demands it s own exercise to maintain proper muscle tone...But anticivilization emotions
don t go away, and they demand periodic exercise. In the film Silent Hill, directed by Christophe
Gans, a nine year old girl named Alessa is forced to live a life of torment. Alessa s fear and pain

physical body creating a doppelgänger of herself; Dark Alessa. The darkest side of her own
soul promised to make everyone who ever hurt her fall into her darkest dreams. A systematic
exposure to hatred and maltreatment led Alessa to give up her innocence and invest herself
fully to seeking revenge. As a baby Alessa was born to be condemned as being a bastard child

Short Story The Painted Door
Throughout your life you will be required to make certain commitments, it becomes your choice if
you want to stick to these commitments or not. However breaking commitments can lead you to
actions you eventually want to forget about or renounce. That is why in situations where you are
faced with a decision, you needto follow what both your heart and mind say. In the short story The
Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on
her commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret.
Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for
seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to
pay off the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for
Ann, and with John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. Ann shows her
commitment to John by asking him to stay, as she cares for his safety and well being. John s
gesture to tell their friend Steven to come over and look after Ann for the day while he was gone,
truly proves his commitment to her and how he cares about her physical well being. There are
signs that she is not fully committed to him, but not in a loving way; John does not pay much
attention to her mental well being and because of her loneliness and the feeling of being trapped
this could be seen as a loss of commitment.
However, with her husband away

American Sign Language II
Seeing Voices
By Oliver Sacks
Seeing Voices is a profound novel that was written by famous neurologist, Oliver Sacks in 1989.
Seeing Voices is a book that delves into the history of Sign Language and expresses a genuine
meaning behind what language truly is. Oliver Sacks is an engaging and fascinating writer. Being
able to explore outside what he is used to, he can expand his knowledge about language. Being
knowledgeable on psychiatry can help him get a better understanding of cognitive ability in the
deaf community and the importance of why keeping Sign Language away from Deaf children is
not beneficial for them in the hearing world. Like many of his books, ... Show more content on

The language of the Deaf is usually consistent with the environment the language is being spoken
in. For example, the signs that one can encounter in British Sign Language can be different than
signs that are seen in American Sign Language. Although Sign Language itself is very universal,
the specific patterns and methods of speaking that are associated with each kind of Deaf
Community can be drastically different.
Sacks himself was not deaf, but it was an exciting experience for him to dive into a community
he was not familiar with. The second part of the book, Sacks goes into detail about the
importance of Sign Language itself and discusses the situation in which he meets a young Deaf
boy named Joseph. When reading this book, I completely understood and agreed with Sacks
when he stated that deaf children must learn a language at a young age to be successful. With that
being said, Oliver Saks researched American Sign Language, and as a result, he ultimately decided
that the Critical Period Hypothesis is extremely important when discussing the Deaf community.
This theory states that there is a critical age at which people should learn a language, or they will
forever be unable to express themselves with little to no education in language. Sacks show that by
keeping Sign Language away from Deaf children is ultimately hurting them rather than helping.
Forcing deaf children at a young age to speak and not use Sign Language as their first language is

Statistical Functionalism And The Wi Thomas Theorem
Sociologists collect data in many different ways: by conducting surveys, secondary analysis,
participant observation, unobtrusive measures, experiments, and by looking at various documents
written by various sources at various times in the past. They can also find their data in movies.
Movies contain as much human behavioral data as newspapers do. Movies are made by and
about people in different social settings and tell us a lot about different and typical aspects of
social life. One such movie that sociologists can collect data from is The Proposal. This particular
movie is a prime example of structural functionalism and the WI Thomas... Show more content on

Mr. Gilbertson, an employee of the Immigration Bureau, threatens Andrew with prosecution for

at Andrew s mercy considering she has more at stake in their arrangement. Other issues soon

function that when fulfilled, contributes to society s equilibrium. Andrew and Margaret are both

Literary Analysis Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Deliberate authorial choices become crucial in getting the readers attention in a said literary work.
Authors spend their whole career developing these techniques to create a style that is their own.
Shirley Jackson displays her talent to the reader in her writing of a pessimistic short story that she
is most famous for. Her famous short storyThe Lotteryis one to keep the reader interested not only
in the content but in the way she presents it and the emotional toll that it has on the readers. The
story follows a town which partakes in a ritualistic lottery. Each household draws from a black
box and whomever draws the black circle wins. The family who wins draws again and the winner
of the family gets stoned. Jackson presents an pessimistic story which reveals all the story s
meaning at the end. It is through her deceiving style, her deliberate technical choices, Shirley
Jacksonfirst lulls her reader then shocks them as she reveals a story that takes a look at following
blindly and the danger of misinterpreting religion and traditions, that is a result of evil hiding in the
ordinary elements of life. In the first reading of The Lottery, no reader suspects the events of the
ending. A contributing factor to this shock that Jackson produces is the syntax. Jackson begins her
story with long and involved sentences written in declarative form. These lengthy sentences tend to
lull the reader into the content which has been written. Jackson writes these sentences to create a

John Stuart Mill, And The Deontological Theory Of Ethics
Frequently brought up in modern conversations between everyday people and behavioral
researchers alike, issues regarding morality and ethics have become increasingly prevalent. With the
current global political climate drawing attention to and/or raising awareness for various
humanitarian crises, such as the massive destruction in Puerto Rico that has left the entire island in
ruin or refugee Rohingya people fleeing persecution in Myanmar and Bangladesh, it is imperative
to understand the logistics of possible relief efforts through a philosophical lens. Two well
developed theories that offer solutions to such problems are Utilitarianism, proposed by John Stuart

Although originally postulated by Jeremy Bentham, this theory that advocates for the greatest
good {sunnum bonum}flourished under the formulation of John Stuart Mill. A commonly
simplified principle, the greatest total net good is similar to that of a mathematical formula
{taking all of the effects of an action, applying them to everyone affected, and finally subtracting
the totality of bad effects from that of the relatively good ones}. Assuming that true happiness is
a state of pleasure that is lacking any elements of pain, Mill introduces the concept of Higher and
Lower Pleasures in order to differentiate between stimulating intellectual sentiments and mere
physical sensations. (Mill, 6) To this end, one would assume that as a hedonist, {one that
perceives a good or successful life to consist of the pursuit and experience of pleasure} Mill s
position on both Rescue I and II would be that that saves the most people, regardless of the
circumstances. However, the situations proposed contrast each other in that they lead back to
Foot s initial concern about the difference between killing and letting die. Rescue I allows for a
somewhat lowered sense of obligation {responsibility if you will}, as it requires the hypothetical
rescuers to go off their initial path to save the group of five individuals at risk of drowning to save

Niggaz With Attitude
N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) emerged in Compton, California, they were a hip hop based
group that was widely considered as one of the seminal acts of the gangster rap sub genre of hip
hop. The group was active from 1986 to 1991 and endured controversy due to their explicit nature
of their lyrics (6). The things they said in their music was of a shocker to society or mostly to
their white listeners. These explicit lyrics were not supposed to be said out loud in public, let alone
in music. During their time, they were banned from many mainstream U.S. radio stations,
prevented from touring, and faced obstacles from the police (6). N.W.A. originally consisted of

mere possession of money, but lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.

Transformational Leadership Theory As A Guide
Transformational Leadership Theory as a Guide. My leadership philosophy closely mirrors the
transformational approach to leadership. Like the transformational theory suggests, I believe that
true leadership inspires the team to rise above its individual components in order to reach a shared
goal (Huber, 2014). Some of the individual components are areas that I have personal strength in
such as: desire to learn and ability to get the job done (Rath Conchie, 2008). Additionally, some of
the components are the ability to influence and connect with others; strengths that I do not possess
(Rath Conchie, 2008). Recognition of my own personal strengths and weaknesses led me to a

Disneyland and its Offerings
This is the place where every kid begs to go. This is the place where adults enjoy going also. It s
the place where dreams come true , Disneyland. Located in Anaheim, California, this popular
amusement park is known all over the world for its entertainment, park rides, Disney characters,
and so much more. Here, children laugh and play while adults enjoy tours or spend the day at the
spa. Either way, both parties will experience the time of their lives. There is so much scenery for
the eyes to enjoy here. From the bright lights, to the extravagant decorations, and to the tall castle
buildings; its elaborate factors cease to exist. This is what sets Disneyland apart from its fellow
amusement parks. The park continues to grow with new things each year. There are so many
awesome things that Disneyland rewards us with.
This tourist attraction was founded by Walt Disney in 1955 (Disneyland Amusement Park). When
this amusement park was first created it wasn t like other amusement parks at the time. Unlike
traditional parks, Walt Disney had a vision of not just having rides but making it a place where
Disneyland is known for its entertainment also. Walt Disney was a cartoon genius (Disneyland
Amusement Park). A lot of his works, most popular being Mickey Mouse, were brought into the
theme of the park. Bringing cartoons like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the amusement
park brought in joy. While walking through the park one may encounter costumes of, Tinker Bell
and other Disney characters. For children and adults, seeing these cartoon characters depicted in
real life, reminds one of happier times. This stood as a trademark for Disneyland. An atmosphere
of optimism, patriotism, and fun are three of the many goals Walt Disney set to achieve
(Disneyland s History). With this in mind things needed to be fixed and changes needed to be
made. When the parked opened up in 1955, there were many speculations that the heavy investment
Disney put in to the park would not be beneficial in return (Disneyland Amusement Park). Walt
Disney spent a lot of money on his vision. Disney projected that he would need eleven

Persuasive Essay On Christmas Research Paper
The most collectively celebrated holiday of the year is undeniably December 25th, Christmas.
Most people acknowledge that the Christ in Christmas is representative of Jesus Christ, Son of
God, and for Christians, the day is set aside as a celebration of his birth. Many people in the
United States (and world) however, either do not believe in the Christian view of Christmas, have
different non Christian religious beliefs or celebrate for other reasons, if at all. Because of the
multi cultural differences that incorporate our country, Christmas should be declared by Congress
as simply a Federal Holiday. This would be achieved if the dominant Christ aspect from Christ mas

Many secular traditions have been incorporated in America over the last 140 years including tree
decorating, exchanging cards and gifts, non religious Christmas songs, Santa Claus, twinkling
lights, among many other traditions. Some of these traditions were expanded from religious
traditions for example; gift giving is based on the belief that The Three Wise Men brought gifts to
Jesus in the manger. However commercialism has long owned this tradition and in fact, it has been
widely recognized that Thanksgiving Day and Christmas are necessary for getting the economy
moving and out of the red hence; Black Friday, the first day of the holiday shopping season. It is
also true that President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of
November in order to extend the holiday shopping season for precisely this purpose.
Congress declared December 25th a federal holiday in the United States in 1870. President
Ulysses S. Grant signed the bill to enact Christmas along with 3 other holidays: New Year s, July
4th and Thanksgiving as public holidays. Many people however believe that including Christmas
with these secular holidays was an error because back then Christmas only meant the celebration of
Jesus birth, which is construed by many as a conflict of the separation of church and state. The First
Amendment of our Constitution clearly states, Congress shall make no law respecting an

The Pros And Cons Of British Mercantilism
Mercantilism is a series of de facto economic policies and practices that sought to strengthen one
state economically and politically, to the disadvantage of others which involved the utilisation of
the interventionist role of the state in the economy and foreign trade that when executed properly,
greatly enhanced a ruler s ability to wage war. Mercantilist policies maintain that a ruler s goal is
to increase the state wealth; state wealth which is equivalent to the stock of precious metal and is
a direct measure of state power. However, many states did not have their own bullion mines and
thus had to engage in favourable foreign trade to increase state power. Additionally, Heckscher

Mercantilist regulation making them easier to control. British economic growth depended upon

in seeking sources of foreign supply. If the state could not free itself completely from trade with
foreign nations, it sought to control that trade in its own interest as much as possible . Adam Smith
asserts that the thirteen colonies greatly aided British capital accumulation in the 150 years they
were subject to the regulations of English Mercantilism. Smith argues that real wealth is a product
of the exchangeable value from land and labour which, during the 17th 19th centuries was

positive emotions such as unselfish love, empathy, compassion, or even romantic love.

Pro and Cons of Forgiveness
We can gain some benefits from forgiveness. One of the benefits of forgiveness is that it is good
for our heart. This is because when we try to forgive other people, we can train our heart to be
more patience when we are dealing in some issues in our daily life. Besides that, forgiveness also
can always train us to be more forgiven people rather than someone who hold revenge towards
others, which is not good for our heart. It can cause the hatred within our heart. According to Siromi
(2012), forgiveness reflects our heart attitude towards God and the person who sinned.
In this context, we can forgive, because there are two components to forgiveness which is
attitudinal and transactional. Before we approach the person who sinned against us, we must
approach God and battle to have a forgiving and merciful heart. To forgive someone, we really
need to be sincere so that there would not be revenge that particular individual. We have to make
sure that our heart is ready to forgive that person and we really mean it. Thus, we will be very
easy and the peaceful finally be with us. Our heart will be in peace because there is no more
hatred and we can go through our life happily. So, the forgiveness is really good for our heart. It
trains us to be more patient in order to deal with person who did wrong to us. It also gives us a

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine system disorder, also a hormonal condition
in which the ovaries are enlarged with very small cysts on the outer edges. The hormonal

as part of a healthy menstrual cycle. With PCOS, the egg may not develop as it should or it may
not be released during ovulation as it should be. The enlarged ovaries may be filled with small
collections of fluid called follicles that can be detected through a thorough ultrasound. PCOS

All of these can worsen with obesity. Every woman with PCOS may be affected a little
differently. To be diagnosed with PCOS a woman s doctor looks for at least two of the following
conditions; irregular periods, excess androgen, or polycystic ovaries. Polycystic ovary syndrome
signs and symptoms often start soon after a woman first begins having periods. In some cases,
PCOS develops later during the reproductive years. Symptoms of PCOS start gradually over time.
Symptoms can include several menstrual problems. These can include few or no menstrual periods
or heavy, irregular bleeding. Hair loss from the scalp and hair growth on the face, chest, back,
stomach, thumbs, or toes. Acne and oily skin. Fertility problems, such as not releasing an egg or
repeat miscarriages. Insulin resistance and too much insulin, which can cause things like upper
body obesity and skin tags. Depression or mood swings. Breathing problems while sleeping.
Polycystic ovary syndrome treatment focuses on management of woman s main concerns such as
infertility, hirsutism, acne or obesity. Most treatments are medicines prescribed by a woman s
doctor. To regulate a menstrual cycle, a doctor may recommend combination birth control pills, pills
that contain both estrogen and progestin. These birth control pills decrease androgen production

One of the strongest attributes of the UAV weapon systems is their precision and accuracy on a
target. UAV s have the ability to scan, track and monitor a target for hours before ever engages a

unique nature of this technology is that more than one person has a vote in pulling the trigger. Due
to these unique capabilities, drones, according to many reports, inflict relatively low civilian

During World War II, civilians were impacted by aerial bombardments on major cities, in both
Europe and Asia. The difference is a large aerial bombardment does not feel as personal and
direct as a drone strike. So victims of a drone strike actually have an issue to complain about but,
unfortunately, there is no one on the ground to assist family members who are grieving their loss.
The civilian casualty issue has less to do with the raw data, that actually demonstrates drones are
much safer than carpet bombing a city or industrial complex.
The issue is public perception. Counterterrorism analysts and politicians have reviewed data and
conducted public opinion polls of those affected by the drone strikes and found that
overwhelmingly those polled view the use of drones negatively (Bergen, P., 2011). In a 2009

peasants could be manipulated by fear, the justice system, and finances. With these methods, the
lord could exercise complete control over the commoners of his fief.
One technique used by lords to control serfs was efficient use of the justice system. During the
middle ages, the lord had political authority in society. Because of this he was able to use the
justice system to his advantage, which included the right to try peasants in court for breaking the
manor s rules. The lord had the power to punish the troublemaker as he saw fit, with fines or
imprisonment. An account that illustrates the lord s power to try and convict the serfs is, From
the whole township of Little Ogbourne, except seven, for not coming to wash the lord s sheep, 6s.
8d. . In this account, the peasants didn t obey the lord, and were therefore punished by him as he
saw fit. In this case they were fined six shillings, and eight pence for their trespasses against the
lord. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main features of the manorial system was that serfs were bound to a certain manor,
and required to work that land for the lord. The serfs were tied to the land because of their debts
or their ancestors debts to the lord. For the lord to keep his power and comfortable way of life,
he had to keep the serfs bound to his land. This meant that he must keep them in debt, which led
to many fees and taxes. An example of one of these taxes is, And after the death of any one of the
aforesaid villeins, the lord shall have as a heriot his best animal... . This example shows the extent
that the lord went to to keep the serfs in debt, so that he could maintain control over the

The Individual Systems of the Oxytocin and Vasopressin Affect Prosocial Behaviours Involving
Bonding Patterns.
Identifying the involvement of neuropeptides in prosocial behaviours by, identifying what prosocial
behaviour involves. Understanding that these neuropeptides play a role in many types of responses,
this essay will focus on bonding behaviours and identifying the importance of bonding between
animals and humans. Followed by identifying the individual systems involved in vasopressin and
what impact this has on bonding behaviours and the effect of oxytocin on bonding behaviours.
Finishing with an overall conclusion, regarding the findings and possible adaptions to future

This mate selection compares with socially monogamous mammals. However, monogamy
behaviours were not found in experimental laboratory species such as rats and mice. However,
pair bonding in monogamous species has been associated with prairie voles(Carter, DeVries Getz,
1995). Identifying maternal bonding from pair bonding by blocking oxytocin receptors that inhibit
maternal bonding in female prairie voles found that maternal bond inhibits partner preference and
pair bonding (Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995; Stoop, 2012). Identifying high levels of oxytocin in the
prefrontal cortex and the nucleus accumbens in the prairie vole, suggests that neuropeptides
influence the pathways that are involved in reward (Stoop, 2012) and reinforcement, therefore,
control the process of social information. Increased levels of vasopressin increased bonding in
voles(Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995). Blocking of vasopressin receptor V1aR in voles showed a
reduced time in social interaction. However, blocking V1aR in mice had a severe social impairment
as they showed no general recollection of previous interaction with other mice. These experiments
give reason to suggest that there are distinct roles for oxytocin and vasopressin between species,
implying that genetic variation and vasopressin influences social behaviours, combined with
oxytocin indicate how modulation of social behaviour occurs. Vasopressin

Should The Uk Government Restore The 50 % Additional Rate...
Should the UK Government Restore the 50% Additional Rate of Income Tax? The United Kingdom
has developed to become one the highest taxed nations across the globe despite impaired
competitiveness and stifled economic growth. Unlike most OECD countries that have lessened
their tax burdens since 1997, UK taxationhas increased, which has resulted in reduced
competitiveness of the country s position as a low taxregime. The other characteristics of UK
taxation include forcing taxpayers into higher rate tax bands, which enforces higher tax rates for
more people. However, in the past few years, there have been debates and controversies on whether
the United Kingdomgovernment should restore the 50 percent additional rate of income tax. This...

Generally, taxation in the United Kingdom has experienced tremendous changes from time to time.
In the 2009 budget, several tax increases were announced by Alistair Darling, the then Chancellor,
in attempts to generate more than ВЈ6 billion by 2012. These increases were also geared towards
securing the country s economic future and providing assistance to people when necessary. Some
of these changes include increases in the rate of indirect taxes and changes to income tax through
the introduction of a new 50 percent rate on incomes above ВЈ150,000. The introduction of the 50
percent additional rate of income tax was primarily part of the coalition Government s fiscal policy
toward cutting the deficit. The introduction of the new 50 percent rate on income tax dominated
reactions to the 2009 financial year budget because of its consideration as a significant change in
the approach by the Labour Government to tax the wealthy (Seely, 2014). These concerns were also
characterized by huge discussions on whether these significant changes would generate as much as
the Government expected i.e. ВЈ1.3 billion in 2010 2011 financial year that would in turn increase
to ВЈ3.05 billion in the successive financial year. Despite its objective towards improving the
United Kingdom s economy, the additional 50 percent rate of income tax attracted considerable
negative comments and

The Similarities Between Primates And Chimpanzees
Primates can be defined as an order of mammals that includes apes, humans, monkeys, lemurs,
tarsiers and lorises. According to the evolutionary history, originally primates evolved from their
ancestors who lived on trees. Today there are approximately 235 species of primates, and they all
range in their habitats and sizes. Thus, the biggest primateis lowland gorilla, whose weight is
around 180 kilos, while the smallest one is mouse lemur living on Madagascar. Its weight is only
30 grams. There are different classifications of primates offered by scientists. However the most
common and widely accepted is the division of all primates into two groups: the prosimians and the
anthropoids. The prosimians that are also called as primitive primates... Show more content on

The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two
theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs
of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing
senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three dimensional world, they
needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment.
Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic
vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result,
the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive.
The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that
all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital
convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects
and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to
gauge the prey s distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent
among all three theories. According to this theory the primates have undergone the adaptive

Aortic Regurgitation Essay
AORTIC REGURGITATION
Aortic regurgitation(AR) refers to the failure of incompetent aortic valve to prevent the flow of
blood from aorta back to the left ventricle.
HEMODYNAMICS:
The backward leak of blood from the aorta to left ventricle during diastole increases left ventricular
volume. The left ventricle accommodates extra volume of blood by increasing ventricular size. This
regurgitation leads to impaired forward systemic blood flow reducing cardiac output. Left ventricle
increases ejection during early part of systole to compensate this. In increased regurgitation, left
ventricular pressure increases, which may leads to increased left atrial pressure and pulmonary
congestion.
CLINICAL FEATURES:
Asymptomatic in mild form.
Palpitation, dyspnea on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Droppler study determine the severity of AR.
TREATMENT:
Calcium channel blockers.
Prevention of infective endocarditis.
Surgery: Aortic valve replacement by homograft or prosthetic valve.
AORTIC STENOSIS:
Aortic stenosis results due to narrowing of aortic valve or adjacent part of aorta. This leads to a
development of pressure gradient between left ventricle and aorta increasing the left ventricular
pressure and hypertrophy. It is very rare in children.
CLINICAL FEATURES:
Classical triad of exertional dyspnea, exertional angina and exertional syncope.
Fatigue, exercise intolerance.
Pulsus parvus et tardus (slow rising pulse).

abundant amount of wealth due to his occupation of being a prestigious landowner. Additionally,
his mother, Catherine Fenton, was also associated with a wealthy family English family. During
his early childhood, Boyle was sent to live with a poor Irish family (Famous Scientists). Boyle s

greatest results they can get. Many scientists use this effectively and don t take it for granted.
Boyle was a very open minded individual and he introduced a concept that dealt with the results

Mining enough coal to supply the world, would really take a toll on Alaska s climate because of
its vast environmental impact. In the article, There Is No Such Thing as Clean Coal the National
Resource Defense Council (NRDC) states that the main sources of pollution due to the production
of coal is methane emissions and particular matter emissions (2). Not only is the burning of coal
harmful to the environment, the coal transportation after it is mined also poses a huge threat. The
NRDC clarifies that diesel burning trucks, trains, and barges that transport coal spew dangerous
chemicals into the earth s atmosphere (2). Not only is it harmful to the atmosphere, but also to the
land and water if it happens to be spilled. The EPA states, truck records indicate that truck
accidents near streams are likely over the long period of mining operations (19). The addition of
these toxic emissions to the earth will greatly influence the issue of global warming on our planet
and could potentially become irreparable which would make life much harder for future generations.
Coal mining Alaska will also negatively affect its abundant wildlife. The mining of the coal will
ultimately force the wildlife out of the area, which will cause major problems. Since so much land

Through Caesar s campaign of the Gallic War, the bravery and astuteness of Caesar are portrayed incisively. I profoundly admire the art of Cicero s public oration and rhetoric after reading The First Catilinarian Speech; the Dream of Scipio makes me contemplate the meaning of life and the ultimate nature of the universe. From the Aeneid by Virgil, I am struck by the arduous journey of Aeneas and the irresistible power of fortune. As I analyze the sentences and phrases of these ancient wisdoms, the beauty of the structure and the subtle interpretation of phrases interest me. And as I dive into the words and the stems, I am surprised at how sophisticated and in the meanwhile how logical this language is. It is a quirk that people think Latin is a monotonous and dead language. In fact, Latin is such a logical and transformative; it is the foundation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Savannah managed to stay alive through everything she went through growing up. As she aged Savannah was abused by her father on a daily basis. When she was 18, Savannah, her mother, and her twin brother were all raped by 3 men. Another factor that plays a part in her being a survivor would have to be the fact that she tries to commit suicide multiple times and somehow managed to pull through. On page 117 Luke is talking to his father saying Why are you so mean? Why do you have to hurt Mama? Why do you want to beat up on a nice little kid like Tom? (Conroy, 117) it shows how frightened they are of their father and how they don t understand why he is doing what he is. These are some of the factors that play part in the reason that Savannah is a survivor. Throughout the story, The Prince of Tides, Savannah played somewhat of a major role. • 7. Pythagoras Had Viewed Music As A Science And Believed That... Pythagoras had viewed music as a science and believed that all could be understood through equations and ratios. In fact, a pythagorean dream would be to reduce the whole understanding of the world to number. But, despite Pythagoras, some philosophers and musicians views might differ. In the 20th century, a series of musicians experimented with thoughts of what musicwas. Of the many, Theodor Adorno, Milton Babbitt, and Glenn Gould all express influential thoughts on the subject in differing ways. First, Theodor Adorno introduces the Aesthetic Theory, which is anchored by the philosophic study of art. Adorno speaks not only on the focuses of base aesthetic preoccupations such as function of beauty and greatness in art, but he also speaks on the relationship between art and society. He feels that modern art shouldn t be limited by the restraints of simply needing to appease the popular or wealthy. A separation from these restrictions would lead to an expanded critical capacity and increased formal autonomy. Consequently, this newfound autonomy, though freeing, would give artists a responsibility for social commentary. However, Adorno does not imply that politicized art is the best that can come from art. There is a more abstract truth content that can be created. Truth content is when art challenges ideals or beliefs or hints at how life could be improved upon without actually changing anything. He focuses on the truth content of the art instead of the subject ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This arena could seat over 50,000 people. On hot days, a canopy was raised over the Colosseum to protect the viewers from the heat. In the Colosseum, many events were held for the Romans to watch. Charioteers, even ones that were slaves, that won in Circus Maximus became so rich that they were richer than emperors. The track could hold twelve chariots and had gates the chariots started in. The gates and track were arranged so that all the chariots had to go the same distance around the track. The chariots were light and usually led by four horses. They also usually ran seven laps around the track and there were many sharp turns, so it was very dangerous and the charioteers sometimes fell off. This is why charioteers wore helmets and carried a dagger, so they could cut the reins, which were tied around their chest, in case the chariot tipped. The spectators usually liked the danger more than the racing. Celebrations held in Circus Maximus had acrobats and dancers, plus vendors selling honey cakes to the audience. There were many animals, such as lions, camels, tigers, bulls, and crocodiles. Jugglers and fire eaters also performed. In the center, there were fountains with red and blue water. The celebrations were held before the chariot races, which were very serious. Roman Theater Plays were put on in the morning and afternoon. All the actors were male. We present in this paper an approach to requirements specification based on quality function deployment (QFD). We discuss how techniques like QFD with accompanying tool support can contribute to the development of high quality requirements models that are the basis for information systems that are perceived as valuable by the stakeholders of the systems. Based on the practical application of this technique on a number of information systems projects, including both traditional development projects and the implementation of packaged solutions, it is our experience that the quality of requirements specifications can be improved by using this technique,... Different toolВ–support is available, going from simple spreadsheets to more advanced groupware tools which enable a larger proportion of the stakeholders to participate actively in the process. In the next section, we give an overview of the SQFD technique. Then we evaluated the technique based on experiences using it in different kinds of projects. We have evaluated the approach on to what extent it can help in the process of creating requirements models of high quality. We conclude the paper pointing to future work as we get further practical experience with the use of the technique and tools. 2 Overview of SQFD QFD was first introduced in Japan by Akao in 1966. Since 1984 a number of companies have used QFD with cross functional teams and concurrent engineering to improve their products, and product or service development process [24], including the development of software [8]. Yearly, several major international conferences are held on the subject, see e.g. [4] for a current overview of the breath of problem areas attacked with QFD. SQFD [19] focuses on improving the software development process by implementing quality improvement techniques during requirements specification. In order to satisfy the stakeholders under the constraints faced by a project, it is necessary to concentrate the best efforts on those things of greatest importance. To do this requires that the project team during requirements specification obtains the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment, the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find the density of the post 1982 pennies. When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century. Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks. While much of continental Europe was seeking to strengthen their absolute monarchies and centralized style of governing, in the 17th and 18th centuries Great Britain was making significant political changes that reflected the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment.... Under the Bill of Rights, Parliament would have a say over the direction the monarchy was taking the country, that the royal power to suspend and eliminate laws was abolished, that the monarchs were prohibited to levy taxes and the monarchy could not maintain a standing army in peacetime without first going through Parliament (Glorious Revolution) . The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary moved forward with their government by implementing new, modern economic policies which placed more focus on the merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the British empire, John Locke was busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its people and vice versa. Chiefly influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious Revolution, Locke published his revolutionary work Two Treatises. In this essay, Locke argued that the reason for the whole existence of governmental authority is to protect the civil liberties and freedoms of the governed. In the film Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, a nine year old girl named Alessa is forced to live a life of torment. Alessa s fear and pain never left but instead grew. Alessa as a result allowed her darkest emotions to split from her physical body creating a doppelgГ¤nger of herself; Dark Alessa. The darkest side of her own soul promised to make everyone who ever hurt her fall into her darkest dreams. A systematic exposure to hatred and maltreatment led Alessa to give up her innocence and invest herself fully to seeking revenge. However breaking commitments can lead you to actions you eventually want to forget about or renounce. That is why in situations where you are faced with a decision, you needto follow what both your heart and mind say. In the short story The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, the author develops this idea in that Ann has to make a decision on her commitment to John, what she decides to do leads her to much regret. Initially, John and Ann are a happily married couple living on a farm, they have been married for seven years. They both adore and love each other greatly, but with John working all the time to pay off the mortgage, Ann starts to feel lonely and trapped. Isolation is already a problem for Ann, and with John leaving amidst the start of a storm, this can only get worse. Ann shows her commitment to John by asking him to stay, as she cares for his safety and well being. John s gesture to tell their friend Steven to come over and look after Ann for the day while he was gone, truly proves his commitment to her and how he cares about her physical well being. There are signs that she is not fully committed to him, but not in a loving way; John does not pay much attention to her mental well being and because of her loneliness and the feeling of being trapped this could be seen as a loss of commitment. Although Sign Language itself is very universal, the specific patterns and methods of speaking that are associated with each kind of Deaf Community can be drastically different. Sacks himself was not deaf, but it was an exciting experience for him to dive into a community he was not familiar with. The second part of the book, Sacks goes into detail about the importance of Sign Language itself and discusses the situation in which he meets a young Deaf boy named Joseph. When reading this book, I completely understood and agreed with Sacks when he stated that deaf children must learn a language at a young age to be successful. With that being said, Oliver Saks researched American Sign Language, and as a result, he ultimately decided that the Critical Period Hypothesis is extremely important when discussing the Deaf community. This theory states that there is a critical age at which people should learn a language, or they will forever be unable to express themselves with little to no education in language. • 39. Military Drones Research One of the strongest attributes of the UAV weapon systems is their precision and accuracy on a target. UAV s have the ability to scan, track and monitor a target for hours before ever engages a potential enemy. During that time, the decision to engage is not left on the operator alone. The unique nature of this technology is that more than one person has a vote in pulling the trigger. Due to these unique capabilities, drones, according to many reports, inflict relatively low civilian casualtyrates. (Williams, 2013) Critics use the subject of civilian casualtiesas an argument both for and against the use of drones. During World War II, civilians were impacted by aerial bombardments on major cities, in both Europe and Asia. The difference is a large aerial bombardment does not feel as personal and direct as a drone strike. So victims of a drone strike actually have an issue to complain about but, unfortunately, there is no one on the ground to assist family members who are grieving their loss. The civilian casualty issue has less to do with the raw data, that actually demonstrates drones are much safer than carpet bombing a city or industrial complex. The issue is public perception. Counterterrorism analysts and politicians have reviewed data and conducted public opinion polls of those affected by the drone strikes and found that overwhelmingly those polled view the use of drones negatively (Bergen, P., 2011). In a 2009 Gallup Poll, only nine percent of Pakistani s approved of the use of drone strikes. Analysts believe that this will lead to more of the public taking sides with the terrorist or at least becoming sympathetic to the cause of groups like Al ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. To What Extent Did Lords Control The Lives Of Peasants Lords controlled the lives of peasants in several different ways throughout the middle ages. The peasants could be manipulated by fear, the justice system, and finances. With these methods, the lord could exercise complete control over the commoners of his fief. One technique used by lords to control serfs was efficient use of the justice system. During the middle ages, the lord had political authority in society. Because of this he was able to use the justice system to his advantage, which included the right to try peasants in court for breaking the manor s rules. The lord had the power to punish the troublemaker as he saw fit, with fines or imprisonment. An account that illustrates the lord s power to try and convict the serfs is, From the whole township of Little Ogbourne, except seven, for not coming to wash the lord s sheep, 6s. 8d. . In this account, the peasants didn t obey the lord, and were therefore punished by him as he saw fit. In this case they were fined six shillings, and eight pence for their trespasses against the lord. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main features of the manorial system was that serfs were bound to a certain manor, and required to work that land for the lord. The serfs were tied to the land because of their debts or their ancestors debts to the lord. For the lord to keep his power and comfortable way of life, he had to keep the serfs bound to his land. This meant that he must keep them in debt, which led to many fees and taxes. An example of one of these taxes is, And after the death of any one of the aforesaid villeins, the lord shall have as a heriot his best animal... . However, monogamy behaviours were not found in experimental laboratory species such as rats and mice. However, pair bonding in monogamous species has been associated with prairie voles(Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995). Identifying maternal bonding from pair bonding by blocking oxytocin receptors that inhibit maternal bonding in female prairie voles found that maternal bond inhibits partner preference and pair bonding (Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995; Stoop, 2012). Identifying high levels of oxytocin in the prefrontal cortex and the nucleus accumbens in the prairie vole, suggests that neuropeptides influence the pathways that are involved in reward (Stoop, 2012) and reinforcement, therefore, control the process of social information. Increased levels of vasopressin increased bonding in voles(Carter, DeVries Getz, 1995). Blocking of vasopressin receptor V1aR in voles showed a reduced time in social interaction. However, blocking V1aR in mice had a severe social impairment as they showed no general recollection of previous interaction with other mice. These experiments give reason to suggest that there are distinct roles for oxytocin and vasopressin between species, implying that genetic variation and vasopressin influences social behaviours, combined with oxytocin indicate how modulation of social behaviour occurs. The United Kingdom has developed to become one the highest taxed nations across the globe despite impaired competitiveness and stifled economic growth. Unlike most OECD countries that have lessened their tax burdens since 1997, UK taxationhas increased, which has resulted in reduced competitiveness of the country s position as a low taxregime. The other characteristics of UK taxation include forcing taxpayers into higher rate tax bands, which enforces higher tax rates for more people. The introduction of the 50 percent additional rate of income tax was primarily part of the coalition Government s fiscal policy toward cutting the deficit. The introduction of the new 50 percent rate on income tax dominated reactions to the 2009 financial year budget because of its consideration as a significant change in the approach by the Labour Government to tax the wealthy (Seely, 2014). The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three dimensional world, they needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment. Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result, the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive. The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to gauge the prey s distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent among all three theories. • 46. Aortic Regurgitation Essay AORTIC REGURGITATION Aortic regurgitation(AR) refers to the failure of incompetent aortic valve to prevent the flow of blood from aorta back to the left ventricle. HEMODYNAMICS: The backward leak of blood from the aorta to left ventricle during diastole increases left ventricular volume. The left ventricle accommodates extra volume of blood by increasing ventricular size. This regurgitation leads to impaired forward systemic blood flow reducing cardiac output. Left ventricle increases ejection during early part of systole to compensate this. In increased regurgitation, left ventricular pressure increases, which may leads to increased left atrial pressure and pulmonary congestion. Not only is the burning of coal harmful to the environment, the coal transportation after it is mined also poses a huge threat. The NRDC clarifies that diesel burning trucks, trains, and barges that transport coal spew dangerous chemicals into the earth s atmosphere (2). Not only is it harmful to the atmosphere, but also to the land and water if it happens to be spilled. The EPA states, truck records indicate that truck accidents near streams are likely over the long period of mining operations (19). The addition of these toxic emissions to the earth will greatly influence the issue of global warming on our planet and could potentially become irreparable which would make life much harder for future generations.
