Digital Artists And Animation And Visual Effects For...
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Multimedia artists and animators create
animation and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other forms of media (BLS).
When looking at the different careers one could pursue, one should weigh the options before, or
near the beginning one s education, so one doesn t have to redo the entire thing. There are many
types of animators, some work in 2D, which is mostly drawing; other animators work in 3D, which
is using a computer. Animationis a good career choice if one has an understanding and love for art
and working with computers.
For applicants looking to pursue a career in animation, one should consider the specific skill sets
and education that is required. According to the United States Department of Labor, some of the
education that one needs is, a bachelor s degree in fine art, computer graphics, animation, or a
related field (How to become one). Furthermore, as stated by the United Kingdom s National
Careers Service, some of the skills needed in this career are, communication and presentation
skills, drawing and modelling skills, and IT skills (UK). According to Dr. Alan Cholodenko,
drawing is acknowledged as the basis of not only all art but of animation (Cholodenko). Some of
the animation careers are heavily based on drawing, however, they also use and need technology
skills as well. As reported by the BLS, Many multimedia artists and animators use computer
programs or write programming code

Komatsu Sakyo reveals his ideas on science fiction by making critical comments on the socialist
trends of science fiction in the 1960s. At first, he questions whether monster should be eliminated
in science fiction. Komatsu argues that monsters in SF which could evokes fear to readers should
be considered as an emotional expression of views of values, life, and the universe of the times. In
particular, he talks about Godzilla figure that is a symbol of primitive horror revived in modern

Persuasive Essay Examples
When faced with hardships in life, a person is often given two choices, to either give up or
persevere. Many people who are faced with these choices choose to give up, these people never
got to live life to their full potential. If they would have persevered then they would have
eventually overcame their challenge and been able to move on from it. If a person does not
persevere they will never be able to move on and will always be ok with where they are at and
never grow. This is why a person should persevere, but what exactly is a person who perseveres?
In the dictionary, perseverance is defined as a, steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a
state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. ... Show more content on

By persevering they will continue to become better instead of staying where they are at, scared to
continue the new skill or play. In nonfiction literature, authors talk about the theme perseverance.
In the article, Warriors Don t Cry, all of the kids are demonstrating perseverance everyday they
go to school. They know that many people are against them and they will have to go through both
emotional and physical hurt but they push through and go anyways so eventually things will get
better. In the article, I am Malala, she shows perseverance by continuing to go to school even
though the threats she has received. She is afraid but this does not stop her, she still speaks out
and goes to school so eventually she can make a change. In the book, The Year we Disappeared,
everyone in their family is showing perseverance. Their dad gets shot, and this affects everyone s
life. They are now afraid everyday and under protection, not able to live a normal life. But this
did not stop them to live a happy life, they moved somewhere where they could go to school and
work feeling safe. Authors use nonfiction literature to persuade their reader to persevere when they
are faced with challenges in life, rather than give up. The article, Warriors Don t Cry, teaches a
person to persevere and face their

Analyzing The Soil Structure Of Soil Properties
On the other hand, soil properties are very difficult to determine because in comparison to steel
and concrete, it is a lenient material, which makes it very difficult to acquire samples for testing
that will produce laboratory results on the same level as its everyday behaviour. Other problems
are; the type of soil affects the ability to collect representative samples eg. stiff clay is more
difficult to sample than soft clay. Differences in sampling techniques in laboratories further
complicate the problem. Additional complicating factors are that soil material properties are stress
dependent, and the soil profile will in practice consist of layers of materials with different material
properties, because of this, the true properties of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Application of the Winkler model involves the solution of a four order differential equation. For
beams, the equation to be solved is; Where D = the beam flexural rigidity k = the modulus of
soil modulus q = the uniformly distributed load on the beam The model consists of linearly
elastic springs with a stiffness of k, placed at discrete intervals below the beam, where k is the
modulus of soil modulus of the soil. The model is also known as a one parameter model 1.3
Problems with the Winkler Model Determination of the Modulus of Soil modulus In addition to
the relative difficulties involved in the solution of this equation, it is not commonly used by
practicing engineers because of the difficulty involved in determining the value of the modulus
of soil modulus, k. Researchers have worked on developing techniques for the determination of
k. One of the most decisive papers was by Terzaghi (1955). He showed that the soil modulus
depends upon the dimensions of the area acted upon by the soil modulus. The Winkler theory
assumes that no interaction exists between adjacent points in the soil profile. As shown in Figure
1, the springs are considered as isolated foundation elements. In order to improve the physical
representation and still apply a relatively simple model, researchers have progressed on two
different routes. Cheung and Zienkiewicz (1965), have considered the problem of beams on an
elastic semi infinite profile by introducing Figure 1

Cyber Bullying Is A New Form Of Bullying
Since its introduction in the early 2000 s, social media has introduced a whole new world for
socialization and sharing. The presence of social media in our lives allows for everyone to
connect through the use of websites and apps from almost anywhere that the Internet is available.
This includes popular sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and even Snapchat.
With the use of these applications comes many benefits but also great risks for many of the
adolescents and young adults that make up a majority of these website users. These risks come in
the form of cyber bullyingand targets a generation that is on average aged 12 18 years old and who
uses the internet about 13.3 hours a week (Kowalski 2008: 4).
Description of the problem
Cyber bullying is a new form of bullying in which technology is used as a tool to bully someone
from a device, most commonly via social media. Over the past ten years it has grown to be the
center of media attention as more and more children are falling victim to this cyber assault. The
traditional form of face to face bullying is now being replaced with the use of cellphones as the
tool for name calling, teasing, and intimidation. This could be anything from mean comments on a
photo to websites being created solely for the purpose of making fun of an individual. While it
occurs less often than traditional bullying, up to 70% of students in the United States have reported
experiencing cyber bullying (Mark 2011: 93).

setting demonstrates the tension between the main characters. The final section will focus on the
resolution, how the lack of change in the setting is symbolic, and has a deeper meaning.

The Most Important American Woman Writers Of The 19th Century
Noble Yet Contradictory American Women Writers of the 19th Century
Fighting for One Cause
Written expression is a beautiful thing and one of which is a freedom in which Americans are
granted, upon becoming citizens of the United States. Harriet Beecher Stowe is known as The most
important American woman writer of the nineteenth century (Showalter, Ch. Harriet Beecher Stowe
). Famous for Uncle Tom s Cabin, Stowe published ten novels during her writing career. Stowe
began writing in the 1830 s to support her family of seven children and husband, Calvin Stowe.
Stowe wrote with a comedic tone, yet, she also had intentions of writing for a purpose of the
weakening of human ethics and the troubles of servitude. She was a very bright, ... Show more

That ere s so now, ain t it? (Showalter, Ch. Harriet Beecher Stowe) The language of Sam s
character is showing both his lack of education and also proper knowledge of the English
language. His aunt chimes in dialect from time to time in the story, but seems to be slightly
more proper than her nephew, My opinion is that if folks don t mind their own business, and do
with their might what their hands finds to do, the Millennium won t come at all (Showalter, Ch.
Harriet Beecher Stowe). It is interesting to see how Stowe, even in the nineteenth century,
recognizes the importance of an education, along with proper English, and implements these
stereotypes throughout her fictitious stories. With this noted, it shows how informal her
writing style appears and appeals to various readers whom may pick up her book(s). For
example, the highly educated readers enjoying this title may delight in mocking the poor
literacy of Sam. Conversely, one who has little education may be able to pick up on phonetic
words that the author has created, laughing along with Sam struggling to see the Aunt s
perspective. For example, Why, lordy massy, boys, he would say, I can t bear to see no kind o

Asian-American Superhero Analysis
Essays, Not Rants! 244: An Asian American Superhero
I wasn t sure how I felt about Silk when she first showed up in the Spider Man comics, but it was
when she got her own series and a narrative no longer intrinsically tied to Peter Parker that she
really came into her own.
But on the on the one hand, yeah, another webslinging spider themed hero? We ve already got a
lot with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Miguel O Hara in books of their own; do we
need one more? The thing is, Silk brings with it like each of the other spider books a unique story
and character.
Obviously, there s Silk/Cindy Moon herself. One of the things that hooked me into the book is
something somewhat shallow but terribly important: Cindy is Korean American. Yes, I know, I m
ranting about diversity again. But listen. There are precious few Asian superheroes, even less so
with their own books. There will always be a thrill in getting to see someone who looks like you
represented.
But Cindy s Asian ness isn t just a lip service done through line art and surname, the story in Silk
features distinctly Asian elements.
So quick recap, Cindy got bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his powers, but due to
some bad news involving spider killing vampiric Inheritors (it makes sense in context), Cindy ...

special in comics. It s not a sign of weakness, but rather a way for Cindy to work out anger issues
and the newfound stress of getting used to a modern life (and being a superhero). It s a profound
addition that subtly destigmatizes getting help while allowing space in Cindy s life to focus on her

Why Did George Orwell Write 1984
What events caused George Orwell to write 1984? George Orwell originally wrote 1984 as a

authority.
Orwell s background begins with him being born into as he describes a lower upper middle class
family. Orwell was born in Bengal India on the twenty fifth of June, 1903, originally under the
name Eric Arthur Blair. Orwell was of the sahib class. This basically means that he was to be

him to writing his first socialist book The Road to Wigan Pier. This novel describes what he saw
when he lived in the slums. After this book was printed Orwell found himself in Spain. During
the time that the Spanish Civil War was going on. Orwell soon found himself involved with this
war. He rose in rank very quickly, and was soon a Second Lieutenant on the Aragon and Teruel

he flees Spain in fear for his life. His experienced left him with an extreme hatred of communism,
which lead him to write Homage to Catalonia. This novel is a favorite of many, however his
greatest work is considered to be Nineteen Eighty Four. Nineteen Eighty Four is meant to be a

Eighty four describes the dangers of a totalitarian society. He is able to vividly explain what will

Victimless crime is defined as illegal behavior in which people willingly engage and in which
there are no unwilling victims. Victimless crimes can be viewed as prostitution, illegal drug use,

some way, and because you willingly do them. There are many other things in our lives that we
can do such as smoking cigarettes, or drinking that can harm our lives and body in some way but

if they were actually legalized would benefit not only people, but our economy. I believe that
drug use, such as the use of marijuana and the drug marijuana should be legalized. I believe this,

believe that prostitution should never be legalized. Most prostitution is going on because of a man

Problems Associated With Climate Change
1.What is this report about?
It considers threats and impacts associated with climate change could be reduced and handled
through mitigation and adaptation. The report evaluates resilience, choices, opportunities,
constraints, needs, limits, as well as other features connected with adaptation. Climate change
requires shifting probabilities of impacts that are varied with complicated interactions. A focus
on danger, which will be not old in this report, complements other aspects of the report and
supports decision. Societies and individuals may view or rate possible gains and hazards
otherwise, given aims and varied values. All inclusive evaluation has been eased by increased
works across a more comprehensive group of issues and sectors, with increased coverage of the

Arkansas stones are actually a type of flint that is more commonly used in the gunsmith industry.
For larger removal of material from an object, there are the India, and Washita stones. They are
darker, and more coarse than an Arkansas stone. India stones are shaped by a process called

available in fine, coarse, and medium grades. Ruby stones are super hard, and can remove some

Communication Gap Between Generation Y And The Baby Boomer...
This paper reviews an article written by Elza Venter from the Department of Psychology of
Education at the University of South Africa. The article is titled Bridging the communication gap
between Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation.
The article examines the generational communication gap between generation Y and the Baby
Boomer generation with the intention to suggest ways to bridge the gap. Venter (2016) argues that
meaningful communication between the two generations is important because they have connected
channels of communication and the two can give meaning to each other s lives. For instance, Baby
Boomer are the parents, employers, lecturers and teachers of Generation Y (Venter, 2016: 2).
However, the two generations do not always maintain good channels of communication. According
to Venter (2016) the baby boomer generation and Generation Y often times find themselves engaged
in conflict as a result generational differences.
In order to understand the communication gap between the two generations, Venter (2016) studied
interpersonal communication style of the each generation. The author found that Generation Y and
the Baby Boomer generation value different communication styles and that creates a
communication gap between the two generations.
According to Venter (2016) the main differences in the two generations communications styles can
be summarised as follows:
Members of Generation Y are called digital natives because this generation grew up using

Statements In Romeo And Juliet
Every day in English one we are required to write I Can Statements. I Can Statements are
basically statements that we write that tell us what we learned that we can do that day. My I Can
Statements this week were that I can use the text and play of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet to
answer the given questions correctly (February 1, 2016), I can analyze the characters in the play
and text to determine their similarities and differences (February 2, 2016), I can analyze the lines
and language in the text and play to paraphrase the characters language and lines for my
understanding (February 3, 2016), I can determine the literary terms used in the text and play to

you to think about where it comes from before it gets to the supermarket or the restaurant. If you
feel you re not really sure where it comes from, write about that. Why aren t you sure?
Wow! That s a huge question, since there are many types of food. I believe fresh fruits and
vegetables are harvested in bulk from farms, orchards, vineyards, etc., and then go through facilities
that handle the cleaning, sorting, packaging (for fresh), and canning. Milk originates at dairy farms

15.Gary Hisrhberg of Stoneyfield farms describes Walmart as one of the most vilified
corporations in America. He goes on to say that a sale of a million dollars to Walmart [of organic
products] helps to save the world. First, what does vilified mean and why do you think Walmart is
vilified? Second, why is a huge sale of organic products to Walmart one way to help save the world?
Vilify means to portray as the bad guy or villain. Many people think Walmart is harmful to
communities by taking sales away from local small business. But a healthy, organically produced
product on Walmart s shelves can reach a lot more consumers due to their large customer base.

The Nacirema Analysis
While reading the Nacirema I could not help to think how different they were and question the
different rituals and customs they practiced. After finding out the meaning behind the allegory I
was shocked and surprised. I was surprised int the similarities that are visible after knowing that
the parable of the Nacirema was actually about America. My brain started making connections
to the American culture. One of the first connections that immediately made to the reading was
the part where Miner talked about how the human body was viewed as disease and an ugly
thing. How could someone view this of their own body? But that is exactly the way Americans
consciously or not view our bodys. The way that we go to the doctor often and take vitamins or
shots against viruses and disease. Often we are even required by schools that we have certain
vaccinations. This could appear different to people who do not get vaccinated as often as
Americans do. People grow up viewing everything they do on a daily basis as normal and what s
correct. That when we see different from one s ordinary practices we are alarmed, but our own

Educational Inequality in the U.S. Essay
The United States is a country based on equal opportunity; every citizen is to be given the same
chance as another to succeed. This includes the government providing the opportunity of equal
education to all children. All children are provided schools to attend. However, the quality of one
school compared to another is undoubtedly unfair. Former teacher John Kozol, when being
transferred to a new school, said, The shock from going from one of the poorest schools to one of
the wealthiest cannot be overstated (Kozol 2). The education gap between higher and lower income
schools is obvious: therefore, the United States is making the effort to provide an equal education
with questionable results. The United States has a shameful... Show more content on

The schools from poorer towns and cities do not have the financial assets available to them to
hire the kind of teachers that schools with more money have the capability to employ. The
resources available to an urban, lower income school are to be equal to those available to a
suburban, higher income school. Two schools in New York, one from a wealthy school district
and one from a poor district, were given computers. The State provided the same number of
computers to each school, therefore claiming to evenly supporting each school. However, the
school with the poorer children had a larger number of students; the nicer school had twice the
number of computers in proportion to the number of their students (Kozol 84). It seems that the
biggest factor keeping the children of lower income homes behind is the school funding
available. The poorer school district does not have the money to spend on the things a wealthier
district may, but there is no real evidence that spending money makes much difference in the
outcome of a child s education. In many cases, family and background have a greater influence on
how well a child does in school (Kozol 176 77). Richard Kahlenberg, a member of the Century

Fifteen years ago, President George Bush won the presidential election beating Al Gore, who had
won the popular vote. This election is one of the most contested in this century. The same election
is also an example of the United States Electoral College voting system in action. The Electoral
College permits a candidate to win a presidential electionwithout winning the popular vote. The
American campaign and election system can be broken down into three significant parts, the

In addition to nomination issues, there are campaign fund issues. As described by Paul Steinhauser
and Robert Yoon s article, Cost to Win Congressional Election Skyrockets, for CNN, the cost to win
congressional elections is rising steeply. Steinhauser and Yoon explain that on average it costs
$1.6 million to win a House seat, which, after accounting for inflation, is 344% more than in
1986. Steinhauser and Yoon also emphasize that in the House of Representatives, incumbents
outspend their challengers by an average ratio of $3 for every $1 the challenger spends. Senate
incumbents on average outspend their challengers by $3.5 million. The authors also explain that
in 2012 outside groups spent $457 million on congressional elections. An outside group could be
a group or individual, for example a PAC (Political Action Committee) or a wealthy individual.
Ashley Parker relates her article, Outside Money Drives a Deluge of Political Ads, in The New
York Times to the influx in spending by outside groups. She explains that political spending for
advertising is increasing rapidly compared to past elections. Parker also emphasizes that outside
groups buy more advertisement time than the candidates themselves. She concludes her article by
emphasizing that soon enough political advertisements are going to start airing on TV right after
November elections, this is some two years before the next vote. Equally important

Buddhist Doctrine Of Karma Essay example
The Buddhist doctrine of karma ( quot;deeds quot;, quot;actions quot;), and the closely related
doctrine of rebirth, are perhaps the best known, and often the least understood, of Buddhist
doctrines. The matter is complicated by the fact that the other Indian religious traditions of
Hinduism and Jainism have their own theories of Karma and Reincarnation. It is in fact the Hindu
versions that are better known in the West. The Buddhisttheory of karma and rebirth are quite
distinct from their other Indian counterparts.
In Buddhism the law of karma is the moral law of causation good actions give good results and
vice versa. It is the quality of an act, which determines its consequences. But what determines the
karmic quality of a deed? In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Buddhist theory of rebirth asserts that the fruits of some karma may manifest themselves in
quot;future lives quot;. This brings us to the Buddhist theory of rebirth. Similar concepts occur in
other religious systems e.g. the Platonic theory of the quot;pre existence of the soul quot; and the
Hindu Jain theory of re incarnation. Such reincarnation theory involves the transmigration of a soul.
In Buddhism, however, it is the unripened karmic acts outstanding at the death of an individual,
which conditions a new birth. The last moment of consciousness too is also a conditioning factor,
but it is the store of unripened karma generated by volitional acts (the sankhГўras) of previous
existences which generates the destiny of the new individual. A newly born individual needs not
only the genetic blueprint derived from the genes of the natural parents, but also a karmic blueprint
derived from the volitional acts of a deceased person.
The question has been posed whether the new individual is the same as the old individual whose
karma it has inherited. The Buddha s answer to this question was somewhat enigmatic: quot;It is
not the same, yet it is not another quot; (na ca so, na ca aГ±Г±o). To understand the Buddha s
reply we have to investigate the criteria, which establish personal identity. Is the child the same as

Suppressio Veri does not support this notion, instead puts the seller at an advantage over the
buyer. Another notion that Machan brings up is the idea of how some from an altruistic sense
(concern for well being and welfare of others) would feel about the ethics of advertising
/merchants role. Of course those from an altruistic sense would favor the tell all stance, and see
Suppressio Veri as being wrong, As Machan says, If we are to live solely to do good for others,
then when we have reason to believe that telling the whole truth will promote others well being,
we morally ought to tell the whole truth to the person. So when a merchant has reason to believe
that telling his customers about lover prices elsewhere (for goods which he sells at higher price)
will benefit his customer, he ought morally to do so. This basis, not only an opposition to
Suppressio Veri but also in part to the merchant ethic and Caveat Emptor, I see as having defaults.
Machan mentions, as the theory of intuitionism state s, One should not promote one s weaknesses,
one should not volunteer information detrimental to one s prospects. And then goes on to give a
good example of why he believes the altruistic way fails, I doubt anyone would seriously advise
job seeking philosophers to list their CVs rejected articles and denied promotions that would be
counterintuitive . Here is why I feel the tell all, altruistic approach to advertising fails.

Biological Theories Of Criminal Behavior
Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed
to explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories
as to what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a
result, criminologyscientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the
presence of certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal.
The three scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality
and criminal behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born
criminal Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with
primitive humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an
individual personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the
head could indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a
scientific hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crimeestablishes an individual as a criminal.
In 1987, while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but
interesting epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso
discovered an indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only
amongst apes.

Evil In Life Of Anthony
Religion is a matter of faith, meaning believing something without physical proof. For people
with a strong Christian faith, the idea of God is complex but makes sense. They believe God is
purely good and all powerful, and He created everything to be good. However, not everyone can
readily accept the ideologies of the Christian faithwithout some skepticism and hesitancy. Those
outside the faith or those seeking to become members often encounter one restraining obstacle,
presented in the question, If Godis good and created everything, why does evil exist? In the books
Life of Antony, The Confessions, and The Consolation of Philosophy, the authors, in their own
ways, establish clear resolutions to the theodicy problem of the presence of evil in a world
governed by an omnibenevolent, omnipotent Creator.
In Life of Antony, Antony approaches the notion of evil by presenting the existence of demons. He

created any evil nature (Loc. 1127). He claims that God is good and purely spirit, and He fills all

Our good ever lives with Thee; from which when we turn away, we are turned aside (Loc. 926).
By turn aside , Augustine is referring to our free will, our ability to either chose to be good like
God or to oppose Him. The opposition of God, Augustine asserts, is how evil is born, not by God
but by human will. To elaborate the importance of this truth, Augustine admits his life mistake of
having once believed evil was a substance, a being, in battle with God. He presents remorse for
having allowed the Manicheans to influence his faith in such a way and encourages people to

long as men can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee. The first thing I noticed about

final couplet the feel of a conclusion. These two lines mean that as long as people can read then
this woman s beauty will live forever and that in the poem she can never die. In The Flea the

her losing her virginity is not a big deal. He says it has already sucked from him and from her

they have been married inside this flea and that if she kills it she will commit not just one crime but

Expectation In Emerson s Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson argues in the essay Self Reliance how not being independent could
potentially take a person to hate his/her inner self, which is truly seen in today s world which
makes Emerson s claim practical because imitation turns individuals to be someone else.
Many people around the world envy, but some take it to another level. According to Psychology
Today, it states that being envied is dangerous do to those who are victims of jealousy. They state
that, People who are the recipients of envy can feel uncomfortable and hurt. What this statement
points out is that people desire to be someone else which leads to an ambition on knowing
everything of that individual. The victims of these jealousies catch scareness and awareness
because of the stalkers that follow them everywhere at every moment. Many members of society
are focused on others than in themselves. Researchers have shown that individuals focus on what
they hate about the person than on what should be appreciated. A few take envy as an evil
stitution which only points out the negative side and not the positive side of the person, which
leads to other citizens doing harm. For example, nowadays they are hundreds of ways that a
civilian s information could spread, such as fake advertisements or social media, which gives
unknown creatures the information at their disposal. In an article from Futurity, it explains how
some people enjoy seeing Someone they envy experiences misfortune or pain, which give them
the satisfaction of seeing them fall. Most of the time individuals are stalked or are followed by
predators. Some of these predators are Schadenfreude and do not care what happens to the person

Consequences Of The European Age Of Exploration
The motives, attitudes, and consequences of the European age of exploration and conquest
differed from place to place across Europe, starting from the want for power, ending with many
consequences, both good and bad, and many mixed views and attitudes to exploration. The
European age of Exploration started for a large variety of reasons: to find a sea route to the
spices of Asia, to create and control a greater empire, to expand their knowledge of the world, to
spread their religion, and to find different precious metals and stones. A great majority of Europe
was encouraged by this age and supported the action of exploration. Isabella and Ferdinand of
Spain are a great example of being motivated by the idea of power. They wanted their country to
grow and become a bigger empire, which is supported by their promises to Christopher Columbus
(Doc 1). These promises encouraged Columbus to start exploring the world, and he eventually
came across the New World. Here his religious motivations moved him to try and convert any
Indian natives to Christianity and believed that for him to do this, he must trade with them in
peace. However, this peace did not last very long and ended in a large disagreements and hostility
between the two (Doc 2). Another motivation of the Spanish was said by Queen Isabella, before her
death when she said, Our principal intention, in soliciting from Pope Alexander VIthe concession of
the lands discovered and to be discovered was to convert their peoples to our holy Catholic faith...
(Doc 4). Her statement confirmed that her main motive for exploration was to spread her Catholic
faith. This motivation influenced the positive views of the common people. They viewed the New
World as a new start to their life and that it offers new opportunities to them (Doc 3). The different
motivations of exploration lead to different attitudes towards the action, some positive, thinking that
exploration was beneficial, and some negative, thinking that the treatment of the Native Americans
were too unfair. Bartolome de las Casas, an ex conquistador, who converted to a monk, had
different views of the motives of the Spanish. He viewed Isabella and Ferdinand s motives as
greedy and that the

Sibling Relationships In John Hinton s The Rich Brother
From the time a child is born to the age of maturity, they are molded into what society has
interpreted as normal. These fragile adolescent years are crucial to the development of the child s
behavior, which bares the question of how important a sibling s role plays in this development.
Humans learn their behaviors and morals through the interaction with one another, feeding off of
each other s experiences. This dependency on others is shown through siblingrelationships, even
more so in the story of The Rich Brother . In The Rich Brother , we are introduced to two
brothers very different from each other. Pete is a very successful real estate agent, living a
normal middle class life with his wife and kids. His brother Donald, rather, lives with a religious
group in a commune. Although they had both been raised similarly, they had grown up very
differently, shaping their behaviors and personalities today. Donald was a more reserved person
than Pete, but also was very naГЇve and optimistic. This leads Pete and Donald into some
disagreements throughout their trip back to Pete s house. Through these arguments, Pete and
Donald s true colors start to show, vastly comparing the differences in lives between those who

Whether Donald needs to borrow money or a place to stay, Pete is always there to clean up his
mess. Donald doesn t enjoy asking his brother for these favors, but it shows that through thick and
thin, a brother is a brother. Though Donald is a bit more optimistic than his older brother, he finds
himself in sticky situations quite more often. Whether he s giving money away to strangers based
on stories and tales, or accidentally starting a fire at his commune, Donald cannot seem to get
things right. This is where he turns to his brother Pete for support. However prosperous Pete is,

Resting Membrane Potential Essay
The first step of four is called the resting membrane potential, the resting membrane potential is also
known as polarized. At this stage no ions move through the voltage gated channels, both sodium
and potassium gates are shut. A neuron (which is a specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses) is
resting. At resting state, the membrane potential of a neuronis roughly 70mV (millivolts), so the
cytoplasmic side (which is the inside) is negatively charged parallel to the outside. All gated Na+
and K+ channels are closed at this stage. A Na+ channel each has two gates, 1 being an activation
gate which is closed at rest but swings open when depolarization occurs, the second being and
inactivation gate that ceases the channel once swung open. Although for Na+ to enter both gates...

This is where the Na+ channels are inactivating, this allows the K+ gates to swing open. Due to
their being a lot more Na+ ions on the outside and the inside the sodium dashes into the neuron first,
sodium is a positive charge, so during depolarization the neurons become a lot more positive. As
time passes the Na+ channels inactivates allowing the K+ channels to swing open the K+ channels
take more time to open, but once they fully have unfortunately, the internal negativity resting
membrane is restored to 70mV (Marieb ; Hoehn;, 2010).
The fourth and final step is called Hyperpolarization. This is a dramatic change in the cells
membrane potential which makes it more negative than the resting membrane potential. It is the
complete opposite of depolarization. Hyperpolarization is also considered as a undershoot, due to it
dropping below step 1 (resting membrane potential) during the hyperpolarization stage a small
amount of K+ channels remain open while the Na+ channels reset, the Na+ channels reset to their
original position by changing their shape to further reopen their inactivation gates by closing the
activation gates (Marieb ; Hoehn;,

Rhetorical Analysis On The Rainy River
On The Rainy River: Rhetorical Analysis
In Tim O Brien s short story, On the Rainy River, the main character, Tim, is drafted to the
Vietnam War. Later on in the chapter, Tim deals with mental and emotional issues on whether
he should go to the war or run away to Canada and be a coward . This is a conflict for Tim
because he does not agree with the war which makes it hard for him to attend, but on the other
hand if he does not go to the war he fears that his family and friends will neglect him. Tim O
Brien reveals how an individual may discover the person deep inside themselves when
insecurities and doubts are in one s mind. O Brien s use of gloomy words, a depressing tone,
symbolic events, and imagery, help the reader understand Tim s situation as well as his purpose in
the book.
One way that the author conveys his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author demonstrates that Tim is stuck contemplating on whether or not to face the VietnamWar
and is rather depressed because whatever choice he makes is still a bad choice for him. For
instance, in the novel The Things They Carried O Brien addresses What it came down to,
stupidly, was a sense of shame. Hot, stupid shame... I was ashamed to be there at the Tip Top
Lodge. I was ashamed of my conscience, ashamed to be doing the right thing (O Brien 49). This
quote helps establish a depressing and humiliating tone because these types of thoughts are a
continuity throughout the chapter. In this chapter, Tim is constantly attacked by his conscience
and his conscience acts as the force that pulls him back from going to the war. That shame of
doing the right thing comes from him believing that the Vietnam War is absurd. The other factor
that makes O Brien depressed is the fear of embarrassment. The tone helps convey his purpose in
the book because it helps the reader relate to Tim s struggle. By using a depressed tone, we are
exposed to his true identity and

Flannery O Connor story Everything that Rises Must Converge consists of different relations
between two different nations, customs, traditions and thoughts. The story talks about the
relationship between two different nations in the same country which every nation has her own
traditions, cultures, and thoughts. The writer presents the story Julian and his mother s, how they

story reveals how these two kinds of cultures coexist with each other, and how they thoughts about

The United States Incarceration System
The United States incarceration system is a structural foundation of punishment in which is formed
by robust authoritarian power. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be
underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering
700 inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of
democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots
of equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. Currently, the United
States criminal justicesystem faces issues of inhumane treatment due to the sheer overcrowding,
which restrict inmates from just treatment within penitentiaries. This lack of equality standards was
argued in the 2011 court case, Brown v. Plata, which California prisonsystems were forced to
decrease prisons overcapacity rate from 175% to 137.5% due to the overwhelming amount of
inmate mistreatment (Koehler, 3). In the decision of Brown v. Plata (2011), supreme court justice
Anthony Kennedy argued dignity should be an organizing principle in the United States justice
system and demonstrated in all correctional facilities. Anthony Kennedy, along with guest lecturer,
Jonathan Simon characterize dignity as a fundamental piece to the incarceration system, and
without it, inmates are victimized to cruel and inhumane treatment. Dignity does not consist of
domination and unequal treatment of

The Components Of Virtuous Leadership
Scholz Posted Date: September 21, 2017 6:52 AMStatus:Published
Victor,
Negative organizational climate is something that has become quite of an issue at my workplace. It
tends to go in somewhat of a downward spiral one person will become disgruntled about something
and start complaining, this grumbling creates a negative environment, more people become
disgruntled and join in, and the cycle continues. Virtuous leadership can help break this cycle of
negativity and boost positivity within the organization climate. Even as coworkers, we can display
the components of virtuous leadership by focusing on the greater good and portraying trust,
integrity, and forgiveness (Kinicki Fugate, 2012). Essentially, we can be a light to those in our
workplace and combat the spreading, negative darkness (Matthew 5:14 16, New International
Version).
Whenever we form a group or team at my job one of the first things we do is assign and define
roles and responsibilities. Motivation and satisfaction of team members can be increased when they
are assigned roles congruent with individual strengths and abilities (Fischer, n.d.). This task could
help eliminate your issues concerning role conflict. When a group has an assigned leader it can
function without the continual question of who is in charge. Additionally, assigned roles can help
with your groups competition of what individual or job is most important; everyone can recognize
the uniqueness of each individual s

The poem Darkness by Lord Byron (George Gordon) talks about how the world is going to shut

The author s depressing tone overshadows the struggles that they re going through. In line one, the

An Analysis Of The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Big Six...
Comparison Summary
DBMS Server Comparison Supplement
An Analysis Of The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Big Six Database Servers. In 1991 I
performed a thorough evaluation and comparison of the four major DBMSs at the time: Informix,
Ingres, Oracle, and Sybase. This comparison was done for a client building a huge distributed
database application, currently in its second phase of d evelopment, with the first phase running
successfully country wide. At that stage, the distinguishing criteria were query optimizers, triggers,
views, and support for distributed databases. Some products had these features, but some others
marketing per sonnel were just talking about them. For example, declarative integrity was a future
that was at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain further, I review a few of the features in this comparison supplement.
Relational Data Model
Although the DBMS products reviewed here can rightfully claim to be relational, their support of
the relational data model must be scrutinized closely. Obviously they all support the basic
relational concepts, such as data stored in tables and accessed b y high level set operations, mostly
through SQL. However, not one of the Big Six supports domains. It is crucial that these products
address this fundamental concept of the relational data model. You must be able to define your
domains and then specify y our table columns, and preferably also your stored procedure variables
and parameters, in terms of the domains. This process is necessary to ensure tight type checking,
as you can do in some programming languages. If a small (in terms of market share) product such
as Interbase could implement domains five years ago, surely the Big Six should be able to get it
right today.
All of the Big Six can rightfully claim that they support declarative integrity constraints. Except for
domain constraints, they all support declarative key, column, and referential integrity constraints.
But you must investigate these claims closely as well. Only Informix and Oracle support cascading
delete as a referential integrity constraint violation option, and only DB2 supports the

know where it originated from then you ll see a bit as to how lethal they are and how deadly
they can be to the United States. In the early 1990s the ASG split from the Moro National
Liberation Front (M.N.L.F.). They were the two main Muslim groups operating in the southern
Philippines. Abu Sayyaf s first major attack happened in 1991, when the Abu Sayyaf group set off
a grenade that killed two American evangelists. The ASG was founded by Abdurajak Abubakar
Janjalani, he was educated by the Al Islamic Tabligh, a fundamentalist organization funded by
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Janjalani became radicalized after studying and traveling to many
Muslim countries he was then suspected to have met Osama Bin Laden in 1988 and given $6
million dollars to develop and transform the southern Philippines into an Islamic state. The word
Abu meaning father and Sayyaf means Sword Smith, or more easily translated into bearer of the
sword in Arabic. The ASG is one the most violent organizations.
Now that we know how the ASG has formed it s even more important to know who its leaders
are, and what they are capable of. Knowing who you are fighting is half the battle when it comes to
being able to predict what may happen next. From the beginning we had

Why Is Frederick Banting Successful
Sir Frederick Banting is undoubtedly the greatest Canadian. His dedication, bravery and genius
led to the discovery of insulin and a significant advance in research related to silicosis, cancer
and aviation medicine. He saved millions of lives, demanding nothing in return. He did,
however, receive various awards, such as the Military Cross for distinguished and meritorious
services in time of war and the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Not born in a
particularly wealthy family, everything he accomplished was the result of hard work,
commitment, and passion. He dedicated his whole life to helping people not only in Canada, but
in the rest of the world as well. Banting did not just talk about making a difference like most
people do. He actually got up, faced the challenge and managed to change the fate of millions.
Frederick Banting s main success was becoming the co discoverer of insulin, but it was not his first
major accomplishment. During the first world war, a heroic sacrifice earned him the Military
Cross. As a student, Banting enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps and after graduation,
was sent to Europe to serve as a medical officer. In the last days of the war, seriously injured and...

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Summary
Piecing Together the Creation of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Literature is often impacted by the experiences the author has had and the time period in which it
was written. The Civil War era affected works that were created during that time. The story An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce exhibits this influence as it is written with the
aid of the experiences he had during the war when he was enlisted. Although some claim certain
events in Bierce s life never affected him, others suggest that Bierce may have incorporated them
into his writings. The story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge was greatly influenced by Bierce s
experiences as a soldier, the extensive knowledge of the Civil War he gathered, and the time period

Northern American states were conflicted by Southern American states over the concept of
slavery. The North was industrialized, using machinery to rapidly produce products at a cheaper
price. Factories decreased the need for slavery, as machines could work at a more effective rate.
Thus the northern economy of America was generally based on manufacturing. In the Southern
states plantation farming was still in favor as opposed to large industrialized factories,
influencing the use of slavery. People were needed to work the fields so slavery still remained
very popular in the South, even as the concept of slavery was diminishing in the North. As the
United States was expanding, the North was pushing laws to make slave owning illegal, but the
South argued that such an act was unconstitutional ( Civil War Era ). This disagreement between
slavery was the spark of the Civil War. America split into two armies; the Union army from the
North, and the Confederate army from the South. Each side waged war with one another, to take

Analyzing The Soil Structure Of Soil Properties On the other hand, soil properties are very difficult to determine because in comparison to steel and concrete, it is a lenient material, which makes it very difficult to acquire samples for testing that will produce laboratory results on the same level as its everyday behaviour. Other problems are; the type of soil affects the ability to collect representative samples eg. stiff clay is more difficult to sample than soft clay. Differences in sampling techniques in laboratories further complicate the problem. Additional complicating factors are that soil material properties are stress dependent, and the soil profile will in practice consist of layers of materials with different material properties, because of this, the true properties of... For beams, the equation to be solved is; Where D = the beam flexural rigidity k = the modulus of soil modulus q = the uniformly distributed load on the beam The model consists of linearly elastic springs with a stiffness of k, placed at discrete intervals below the beam, where k is the modulus of soil modulus of the soil. The model is also known as a one parameter model 1.3 Problems with the Winkler Model Determination of the Modulus of Soil modulus In addition to the relative difficulties involved in the solution of this equation, it is not commonly used by practicing engineers because of the difficulty involved in determining the value of the modulus of soil modulus, k. Researchers have worked on developing techniques for the determination of k. One of the most decisive papers was by Terzaghi (1955). He showed that the soil modulus depends upon the dimensions of the area acted upon by the soil modulus. The Winkler theory assumes that no interaction exists between adjacent points in the soil profile. As shown in Figure 1, the springs are considered as isolated foundation elements. In order to improve the physical representation and still apply a relatively simple model, researchers have progressed on two different routes. Cheung and Zienkiewicz (1965), have considered the problem of beams on an elastic semi infinite profile by introducing Figure 1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Most Important American Woman Writers Of The 19th Century Noble Yet Contradictory American Women Writers of the 19th Century Fighting for One Cause Written expression is a beautiful thing and one of which is a freedom in which Americans are granted, upon becoming citizens of the United States. Another notion that Machan brings up is the idea of how some from an altruistic sense (concern for well being and welfare of others) would feel about the ethics of advertising /merchants role. Of course those from an altruistic sense would favor the tell all stance, and see Suppressio Veri as being wrong, As Machan says, If we are to live solely to do good for others, then when we have reason to believe that telling the whole truth will promote others well being, we morally ought to tell the whole truth to the person. So when a merchant has reason to believe that telling his customers about lover prices elsewhere (for goods which he sells at higher price) will benefit his customer, he ought morally to do so. This basis, not only an opposition to Suppressio Veri but also in part to the merchant ethic and Caveat Emptor, I see as having defaults. Machan mentions, as the theory of intuitionism state s, One should not promote one s weaknesses, one should not volunteer information detrimental to one s prospects. And then goes on to give a good example of why he believes the altruistic way fails, I doubt anyone would seriously advise job seeking philosophers to list their CVs rejected articles and denied promotions that would be counterintuitive . Scientific studies of research have formed theories as to what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a result, criminologyscientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the presence of certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal. The three scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality and criminal behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born criminal Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with primitive humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an individual personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the head could indicate certain criminal tendencies. For people with a strong Christian faith, the idea of God is complex but makes sense. They believe God is purely good and all powerful, and He created everything to be good. However, not everyone can readily accept the ideologies of the Christian faithwithout some skepticism and hesitancy. Those outside the faith or those seeking to become members often encounter one restraining obstacle, presented in the question, If Godis good and created everything, why does evil exist? In the books Life of Antony, The Confessions, and The Consolation of Philosophy, the authors, in their own ways, establish clear resolutions to the theodicy problem of the presence of evil in a world governed by an omnibenevolent, omnipotent Creator. Augustine says, Our good ever lives with Thee; from which when we turn away, we are turned aside (Loc. 926). The last two lines of Shall I Compare Thee , So long as men can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee. Expectation In Emerson s Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson argues in the essay Self Reliance how not being independent could potentially take a person to hate his/her inner self, which is truly seen in today s world which makes Emerson s claim practical because imitation turns individuals to be someone else. Many people around the world envy, but some take it to another level. According to Psychology Today, it states that being envied is dangerous do to those who are victims of jealousy. They state that, People who are the recipients of envy can feel uncomfortable and hurt. What this statement points out is that people desire to be someone else which leads to an ambition on knowing everything of that individual. The victims of these jealousies catch scareness and awareness because of the stalkers that follow them everywhere at every moment. Many members of society are focused on others than in themselves. Researchers have shown that individuals focus on what they hate about the person than on what should be appreciated. A few take envy as an evil stitution which only points out the negative side and not the positive side of the person, which leads to other citizens doing harm. For example, nowadays they are hundreds of ways that a civilian s information could spread, such as fake advertisements or social media, which gives unknown creatures the information at their disposal. In an article from Futurity, it explains how some people enjoy seeing Someone they envy experiences misfortune or pain, which give them the satisfaction of seeing them fall. Most of the time individuals are stalked or are followed by predators. Some of these predators are Schadenfreude and do not care what happens to the person they envy because they can only be one or be in the same level as the jealous person. For instance, studies sought to better understand who is among these envied groups and whether that envy and jealousy elicits a harmful response, which is an action to prevent anymore harm to anyone else. Consequences Of The European Age Of Exploration The motives, attitudes, and consequences of the European age of exploration and conquest differed from place to place across Europe, starting from the want for power, ending with many consequences, both good and bad, and many mixed views and attitudes to exploration. The European age of Exploration started for a large variety of reasons: to find a sea route to the spices of Asia, to create and control a greater empire, to expand their knowledge of the world, to spread their religion, and to find different precious metals and stones. A great majority of Europe was encouraged by this age and supported the action of exploration. Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain are a great example of being motivated by the idea of power. They wanted their country to grow and become a bigger empire, which is supported by their promises to Christopher Columbus (Doc 1). These promises encouraged Columbus to start exploring the world, and he eventually came across the New World. Here his religious motivations moved him to try and convert any Indian natives to Christianity and believed that for him to do this, he must trade with them in peace. However, this peace did not last very long and ended in a large disagreements and hostility between the two (Doc 2). Another motivation of the Spanish was said by Queen Isabella, before her death when she said, Our principal intention, in soliciting from Pope Alexander VIthe concession of the lands discovered and to be discovered was to convert their peoples to our holy Catholic faith... (Doc 4). Her statement confirmed that her main motive for exploration was to spread her Catholic faith. This motivation influenced the positive views of the common people. They viewed the New World as a new start to their life and that it offers new opportunities to them (Doc 3). The different motivations of exploration lead to different attitudes towards the action, some positive, thinking that exploration was beneficial, and some negative, thinking that the treatment of the Native Americans were too unfair. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering 700 inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots of equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. The Components Of Virtuous Leadership Scholz Posted Date: September 21, 2017 6:52 AMStatus:Published Victor, Negative organizational climate is something that has become quite of an issue at my workplace. It tends to go in somewhat of a downward spiral one person will become disgruntled about something and start complaining, this grumbling creates a negative environment, more people become disgruntled and join in, and the cycle continues. Virtuous leadership can help break this cycle of negativity and boost positivity within the organization climate. Even as coworkers, we can display the components of virtuous leadership by focusing on the greater good and portraying trust, integrity, and forgiveness (Kinicki Fugate, 2012). Essentially, we can be a light to those in our workplace and combat the spreading, negative darkness (Matthew 5:14 16, New International Version). Whenever we form a group or team at my job one of the first things we do is assign and define roles and responsibilities. Motivation and satisfaction of team members can be increased when they are assigned roles congruent with individual strengths and abilities (Fischer, n.d.). If a small (in terms of market share) product such as Interbase could implement domains five years ago, surely the Big Six should be able to get it right today. • 51. Why Is Frederick Banting Successful Sir Frederick Banting is undoubtedly the greatest Canadian. His dedication, bravery and genius led to the discovery of insulin and a significant advance in research related to silicosis, cancer and aviation medicine. He saved millions of lives, demanding nothing in return. He did, however, receive various awards, such as the Military Cross for distinguished and meritorious services in time of war and the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Not born in a particularly wealthy family, everything he accomplished was the result of hard work, commitment, and passion. He dedicated his whole life to helping people not only in Canada, but in the rest of the world as well. Banting did not just talk about making a difference like most people do. He actually got up, faced the challenge and managed to change the fate of millions. The North was industrialized, using machinery to rapidly produce products at a cheaper price. Factories decreased the need for slavery, as machines could work at a more effective rate. Thus the northern economy of America was generally based on manufacturing. In the Southern states plantation farming was still in favor as opposed to large industrialized factories, influencing the use of slavery. People were needed to work the fields so slavery still remained very popular in the South, even as the concept of slavery was diminishing in the North. As the United States was expanding, the North was pushing laws to make slave owning illegal, but the South argued that such an act was unconstitutional ( Civil War Era ). This disagreement between slavery was the spark of the Civil War. America split into two armies; the Union army from the North, and the Confederate army from the South. Each side waged war with one another, to take part in the Civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
