Give Ireland Back To The Irish Discrimination. Violence. Political turmoil. This was the reality
that plagued Northern Ireland in a thirty year conflict known as The Troubles , which began in
1968 and ended in 1998. Paul McCartney s song Give Ireland Back to the Irish was written in
response to Bloody Sunday , and is an effective example of a rhetorical argument. Bloody Sunday
was a major incident that took place on January 30, 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On this
day, twenty six protesters were shot by British paratroopers and 14 died from their wounds.
(Crutchley). This song, written and recorded just two days after the incident, was aimed at raising ...

His aim was to make government officials realize the effects of their decisions and have more
sympathy to the people who were affected by the British Army s tactics. The line How would you
like it/If on your way to work/You were stopped by Irish soldiers prompts the listener to think
about how they would feel if the situation was reversed, and Ireland had sent troops into Britain to
perpetuate conflict and injustice. The line Great Britain and all the people/Say that all people must
be free highlighted the hypocrisy of the British government and how it stated that all people must
be free, yet it was sending in its own violent troops instead of letting the Irish government and
military forces handle the conflict (McCartney). This was also shown through the title statement
give Ireland back to the Irish , because McCartney urged Britain to relinquish military control of
Ireland because clearly the presence of the British army did not help the situation rather, it furthered
the conflict. McCartney further played on the sympathies of his listeners with the line Meanwhile,
back in Ireland/There s a man who looks like me (McCartney). He pointed out that there are
similarities between everyone, and implied that we are all people with human rights who should not
mistreat each other. In the line He dreams of God and country... And he s sitting in a prison showed
that Irish citizens wanted peace and loyalty in their country but instead they were mistreated and
subjected to injustice, largely resulting from the British government s military strategies

Historiography of the Reconstruction Era
Riham Elshazli Professor Clement Price Civil War and the Reconstruction 12/11/12
Historiography of the Reconstruction Era At a time when America was trying to piece itself back
together, the Reconstruction Era is one of the most important chapters in history. It is also,
however, one of the most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of
freed slaves needed to be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was
moderate in his views as to what should happen to restore order to the United States. However,
some Republicans had other plans in mind. They wanted to impose harsher terms and used
Congress to do so, justly giving them the name Radical Republicans. Opinions about this time

Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his
academic view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the
country as movies such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These
movies portrayed Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They
depicted blacks as being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first
painted. In short, Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed
black people and offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t
until the 1930s when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge
Dunning s traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. Du Bois to
counter his opinion but the attempt did not hold. In Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois
argues that the corruption spoken about was highly exaggerated and that Dunning overlooked
many of Reconstruction s achievements. Historians disregarded what Du Bois had to say because
his use of the Marxist theory and because he was seen as a radical at the time. It was not until 20
years later when other historians, known as revisionists, began to echo Du Bois arguments. While
these revisionists still saw Reconstruction as a failure, they disagreed with Dunning

Descriptive Essay About The Winter Concert
The sound of a dying cow, croaking its last breath . That was what my dad called the sound of me
playing my clarinet. Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but
3rd grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band
students (including me) had thoughtthey were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the
world. Of course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less
professionals. And this leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We
could not call it the Christmas concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95%
of the kids were Christian/White and most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas
jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot
cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far, we screwed it up. By the end, none of the
parents watching could tell the difference between the song and the squeaks that were over
powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came up to each of their sweet
little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said, You guys sounded
like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it. Their inner
thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I
actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park
instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM
NOT MAD! Just joking, I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the kids just came for the free pizza
and goodie bags at the end, but didn t we all at one point. I remember one time a group of me
and my friends went to this B day party of a girl we all hated... and avoided her the entire time!
Ahhh, the good old days where every kid was a bull, even to their fake friends, and no one got in
trouble. Back to what I was saying, so my party was all yay yay glitter, pink, sparkles, etc. until
my brothers came. Okay, so I have two brothers, one who is a year younger and one that s two
years younger. You might think aww

The Role Of Chief Role Of Chief Financial Officer
GC3 was established with the purchase of fourteen Coffee Hut stores in Columbus, OH, by three
former Coffee Hut associates. Over the next few years, GC3 expanded into Cincinnati and
Cleveland, but have kept Columbus as their regional headquarters. Moving forward, GC3 grew
with the purchase of Great Scoops and DaDeli. Due to this extreme growth, and the need for
centralized decision making, most of GC3 staff will reside at the company s headquarters, aside
from store managers and administrative staff.
With the continued growth, it is important to develop a corporate structure. The three forerunners
of GC3 are Tony, Bruce and Bonnie. Tony has taken the role of Chief Financial Officer. To be
successful, Tony will need to build a team to meet the demands of the entire organization. Since
Tony works at headquarters, a proposed IT and Accounting group will report to him. These added
responsibilities will create a need for Tony to have one main direct report, a Finance Manager. The
Finance Manager will directly manage the newly added IT department and Accounting department.
Since headquarters will be responsible for all accounting functions throughout the organization, an
AP/AR clerk will directly report to the Accounting and Payroll Specialist. With the many new
proposed software additions, an IT person will be needed. IT will reside at headquarters and have
the capabilities to remotely access all PC s at any given time to monitor and troubleshoot
technology issues.

Invictus By William Ernest Henley
Invictus is a poem written by William Ernest Henley. The theme of this poem is about having the
will to survive in hardships. This poem tells us that you control your own fate. This poem is
lyrical as it is expressing the writer s emotions about his hardships in life, but also didactic as it
teaches you to forge your own path in life. This poem follows a ABAB rhyme pattern, and has four
stanzas which includes four quatrains. The first stanza indicates the difficulty in life and thanks
thegods for the strength they ve given him. The second stanza tells us of this soul who has never
complained even when things are of misfortune, and would rather endure than to lose pride. The
third stanza describes this threatening world we live in, and

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Assassination
When one hears the name Kennedy, what comes to mind? Many families have multiple icons in the
American political scene; the Kennedys are no exception. Many think of President John F. Kennedy
and his assassination. Others reflect on Jacqueline Kennedy and her elegance, style, and grace. Still
others think of Ted Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, or Rose Kennedy. Others remember yet another
Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, New York Senator and brother of President John F. Kennedy
, who
sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. On April 4, 1968, he spent the entire day
campaigning in Indiana. First going to the University of Notre Dame then proceeding to Ball State
University and finally finishing in the capitol, Indianapolis, he thought the day successful. Having
heard the news of Martin Luther King, Jr. s assassination, he decided to deliver a speech at the rally
to break the news to the mostly African American audience. While telling of the tragic loss,
Kennedy incites the audience to believe that America can overcome King s assassination by

Textbook Adoption in California, 1879-2014
Textbook Adoption in California, 1879 2014 Suppose you are a textbook publisher with a
mandate to reduce the weight of the books you put out. Research has shown that your books
break backs, and the legislature has spoken: your books will not be adopted (and you will,
therefore, lose much of your business) unless you clear strict weight limits. The weight of a book
is proportional to its length, so your first thought is to cut some of the content. Will students really
read or even reference 1,000 pages of World History, anyway? But as you start scanning for
superfluous sections, you come to a startling realization: every paragraph of the monstrous text
serves a role. Not an educational or curricular role, necessarily, but certainly a practical one. Each
section is aligned with some state standard, meaning that it purports to teach some element of state
mandated curriculum. Perhaps it is the only passage that mentions unsustainable mineral resource
consumption to comply with California s Standard MS ESS3 4 for eighth grade science, or maybe
it provides a particularly clear example of making an argument from evidence that will be helpful in
convincing state officials that the book adheres to their curriculum. Cutting these standards aligned
passages, even if they are not actually contributing to the cohesion of the text, could easily get you
knocked off the list of instructional materials approved for state purchase. Maybe you could remove
some pictures? Nope: pictures,

Osama Bin Laden Ambition
Osama bin Laden, who was born into a self made affluent Saudi Arabian family with a strong
religious and moral background. After becoming discontent with the world around him, bin Laden
began to seek a world with pure Islamic law not influenced by western powers. After the creation
of al Qaeda, he used his business background, ambitious nature and key religious messages to
influence the actions of his followers.
The creation a resilient global terrorist network relies on the same fundamental building blocks as a
corporate business, from organization to strategy. Each company has set leadership, goals, and the
necessity of funding to operate. While creating the now infamous al Qaeda terrorist network,
Osama bin Laden relied heavily on his background ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This requires a commanding presence that fuels the discontent of the people to further the
organizations objectives. Following the 1970 Russian invasion, there were many grievances that
were not being addressed by the Middle Eastern governments and Osama bin Laden became a
mythological voice of the people. He was able to wrap himself in the imagery of the prophet
Muhammed and used a media campaign to spread his message of a strong Islamic state free of
western influence (Graham, 2011, para. 9). Bin Laden spoke persuasively about issues that his
followers could relate rooted in Islam to help blend in a familiar foundation. It didn t matter if the
message involved the killing of innocent people, so long as it helped everyone achieve the end
result they hoped for and could not attain without the freedom fighter bin Laden. He promised to
create a world community of Muslim and rid the Middle East of corrupt regimes carrying out the
bidding of the west (Graham, 2011, para.

The Contribution Of The Treaty Of Versailles
On January 10, 1920, a peace document known as The Treaty of Versailles, signed by Germany
and the Allied Nations on June 28, 1919, took force. This agreement was the most powerful of the
peace treaties, bringing an end to World War I. Despite the peace it brought to the Allied Nations, it
brought nothing but devastations to all aspects of Germany. Due to its harsh and humiliating terms,
twenty years after its authentication, the treaty would trigger a second world war. Created as a
document of peace, The Treaty of Versailleswould antithetically prompt WWII by promoting the
infamous dictator Adolf Hitlerand his Nazi Party to power.
Under the Treaty of Versailles, all German overseas colonies became League of Nation Mandates.
Germany was also forced to accept complete responsibility for initiating World War I
, making them
responsible for paying all war damage. In addition, the German army was limited to 100,000
men, the air force was banned from having combat aircraft, the navy lost nearly all of its surface
ships and submarines, and tanks were forbidden. These barbarous terms were set with the goal of
preventing another war by crippling Germany, but Germans viewed this as unfair, bringing nothing
other than indignant reactions. The Treaty of Versailles played a major role in bringing a Great
Depression upon Germany. German capital that would have been used to advance industry would
rather be drained by payments to the Allied Nations. In order to pay off WWI debt as

Is Affirmative Action Fair?
Affirmative action was created to increase the number of people from certain social groups in
employment, education, business, government, and other areas (LaNoue, G., 2010). This policy is
geared toward women, and minorities such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic
Americans, American Indians, and disabled people. Generally speaking, Affirmative Actionwas put
into place to benefit groups that are thought to have suffered from discrimination. Some believe that
affirmative action is just a means for minorities to get ahead, but the benefit is for minorities to first

Therefore, the rationale behind most affirmative action is sound. It does make sense to attempt
to normalize for differences in the college entry level because of the quality of preparation at the
elementary and secondary levels because children have no say in where they attend school.
Typically, they are forced to attend a school nearest to their home and they normally do not have
any control over the quality of education they receive. I made no mention here of race, but the
quality of the education; the unfortunate truth here is that these two are highly correlated in our
country. I derive that those who may benefit from affirmative action policies have the ability to
succeed but the preparation is lacking. No matter what the case may be, they do deserve a
chance. Some would argue that once you reach post college employment opportunities that there
is no need for affirmative action since presumably the educational differences you find in
secondary schools and colleges would have balanced out by the end of your college career. So
often we still see employers choosing to hire someone that is under qualified as opposed to
someone who is over qualified. Have you ever heard the statement, We decided to go with someone
with a little less experience ? Oftentimes, potential employers will tell candidates for positions this

A Simple Game of Catch
Though time goes on and experiences past, the memories live on and forever they last. Life is a
gift of beauty yet sometimes that gift can be tarnished by the darkness of pain. However, it s the
simple aspects of life that truly define who we are as individuals. A simple gameof catch is all it
ever took to make that darkness of life fade. A simple game of catch is all it ever took to bring back
the happiness that had been taken away. A simple game of catch is all it ever took. Baseballhas been
an important aspect of my life. Ever since childhood, I ve played the great game that I ve come to
love and hate. Though I have risen and fallen in my abilities, I still find a way to play the game.
When I was a child, I started my experiences of baseball by playing catch with my father in the
front yard of my house. We threw and we caught and we smacked our gloves the repeat the
process once again. Playing catch gave us a way to relax, a way to talk, and a way to connect.
When we threw to each other, it gave me a chance to train in my abilities and it gave my father a
way to relive his own childhood. Yet, as time went on and my interests changed, playing catch
became a thing in the past. Gone. Everything gone. My childhood faded, my dreams jaded, and my
innocence traded. Friends turned away laughing as I asked myself, What had just happened? Acting
my way through it all I knew something good

This paper intends to identify a Quality Indicator (QI) that measures and improves the quality of
care in long term care facilities. The quality indicator is: the percentage of long term residents
who report moderate to severe pain. I will describe the facility where the QI has been identified,
and how aspects of the organization impact the QI. I will also describe how the QI relates to the
facilities mission/vision/and values. I will identify a solution to the QI issue, which will help
remedy the issue. I will conclude with my personal/professional philosophy and how it applies to

This results in a measured and documented approach to moving The Good Samaritan Society
forward operationally and strategically (A Lutheran Social Service Society, 2016).
In summary it talks about accountability, leadership, integrity, and stewardship to ensure that they
are fulfilling their obligation to provide Quality of Care. It is something that the Good Samaritan
takes pride in, the framework that they post on their website and also expressed by the
administrator, which she talked about with pride and respect for their patients they take care of.
One of the big impacts regarding this organizational structure and QI is that pain is a subjective
symptom, perceived differently, cognitive abilities are different, and verbalization of the extent of
pain. Pain is challenging to measure at Good Samaritan because of its subjective and variable
nature, because the pain experience is personal (subjective) pain is whatever the resident says it

La Raza Character Analysis
Like the Chicano character, the La Raza personality rose up out of the historical backdrop of
political, financial, and social disappointment of Mexicans in the United States and their ensuing
social activism (Gutierrez, 1995; Ochoa, 2004). The term was initially used to affirm that the mix
of Native American and European societies created a capable and even predominant raza cosmica
(astronomical race) (Vasconcelos, 1997). The 1960s Chicanodevelopment grasped a politicized
Raza personality that underlined the indigenous parts of their legacy and de stressed European
segments (Oropeza, 2005). In late decades, the term Raza has turned out to be more
comprehensive, mirroring the way that Hispanic/Latinos are a blend of a large portion of the
world s races, societies, and religions (Vasconcelos, 1997). The historical backdrop of
sociopolitical challenge implanted in the term, in any case, stays remarkable for some who

Roger Chillingworth Quotes
In chapters 9 and 10, Roger Chillingworth returns and renames himself with a whole new identity.
He made Hester swear to secrecy she wouldn t reveal whom he was. He reintroduces himself to
the town as being a doctor, which was an uncommon profession. Because of the lack of doctors, he

Dimmesdale doesn t believe medicine can heal him, he caves and agrees to let Chillingworth help
him. The two men spend time together and Chillingworth believes that he should analyze the
reverend spiritually, physically, and mentally in order to cure him. Over time, they think it is a
good idea for them ot temporarily move in together, being that Dimmesdale wasn t married. Some
of the townspeople think it is wise but others start thinking Chillingworth has ugly and evil in his
face and that he has changed. Chillingowrth is dedicated to finding out who committed adultery

believes he should only confess to Christ. Chillingworth gets impatient but after they fight, the two
men make up. Later, Dimmesdale falls asleep and Chillingworth goes to his room and lifts his shirt
to reveal something that excites him. To me, his secretive nature reveals his not so positive
intentions and the townspeople rightly suspect him of acting darkly towards the

How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society
Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless
(Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their
fellow sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of
Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong
women. We are called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the
world we live in. After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to
me the severity of homelessnessin America and how simple it can be to change it. Community
First! not only builds tiny homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives
them a community to become a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First!
Village would not only strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also
support the movement to end homelessness through providing a home and community to a young
outcasted individual.
Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has
grown to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the
homeless in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of
19,000 volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has
been building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The
village features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market,
movie theater, and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers
come in for construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now,
the village has housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes
continues to house more people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major
cities of the work this organization has founded and grown. Many of the people living in the
village have come from a variety of lives before moving into the community. Some old, some new,
and often have been alone most of their life.

Literature Review On Nursing Bedside Report
В· The section entitled literature review relies primarily on studies conducted in the last 5 years.
The literature on nursing bedside report is focused in two general areas. The first focus area is the
process of implementing bedside report, either describing the experiences related to implementation
or explaining how other organizations could implement this change. The second area of focus is
improving the process of bedside report, often through observation and identifying common
themes, or by describing how others may improve their own reporting process.
· The theoretical or conceptual framework is described.

The conceptual framework was the interviews of the patients on their stay in the hospital. The
patient survey had 17 items dealing with the following nurse behaviors treating the patient kindly
and with respect, listening to the patient, informing the patient about their care, teaching so that the
patient could understand, working with other nurses, passing along information from shift to shift,
including the patient in report discussions and keeping the patient s health information private
(Sand Jecklin Sherman 2013).
· Does the literature review provide support for the importance of future study research?

consistency of use of the blended shift report format. An Improving Bedside Report tip sheet was

Social Image Of Marie Antoinette
One of the most famous queen of France, Marie Antoinette is the major historical figure
representing the dawn of the French revolution. Though she was seen as a symbol of the
conservative, extravagant royal class, recent studies disagree on this well known image. Historical
fact shows that Marie Antoinette was a virtuous queen and a thoughtful mother who was
courageous in the face of death. The current social image of Antoinette is a prejudiced one. Her
notoriety is wrongly accused. Antoinette was only a victim of family ambition and the general
situation in France.
Though she lacked actual political power, Antoinette lived an active, charitable and modest life. The
famous phrase, Let them eat cake is often attributed to Antoinette as a vivid example of her
ignorance. However, renowned biographer Antonia Fraser in Marie Antoinette: The Journey notes
that this phrase is misattributed. It is actually originated from Jean Jacques Rousseau s Confessions,
an autobiography published when Antoinette was only nine. It is more likely that some
discontented individual fabricated the scenario and put the words into the mouth of Marie
Antoinette (Fraser, 124). Moreover, Antoinette s actions show that she was far from ignorant. In
1785, when a terrible famine swept the country, potato planting ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville
The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not
government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of
Bernard Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The
poem compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the
bees become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community.
Through this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public
improvements and economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices,
such as lust and greed to innovationfor society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits
of marijuana legalization.
Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting
vice as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that
fulfills the individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins
provide a framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding.
Mandeville, in the poem, provides examples of such actions within all echelons of society.
Mandeville writes, Physicians valu d Fame and Wealth/ Above the dropping Patient s Health (71
72). As example of greed, medical professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the
driving factor in treating patients rather than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. Again,
Mandeville displays occurrences of vice within society by demonstrating instances of individual s
pursuit of wealth at the expense of others, Their Kings were serv d, but Knavishly,/ Cheated by
their own Ministry;/ ...Robbing the very Crown they saved (113 117). The King s own advisors
and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own self interests over that of the Kingdom.
Mandaville is a realist in the sense that he acknowledges humanities inherent drive to serve oneself
before others and engage in immoral and corrupt behavior. He addresses greed and dishonesty in
private life without hesitation or resentment. It is this self pursuit that Mandeville argues actually

Catcher In The Rye Journey
The maturing of oneself is not only a journey of self discovery, but a process of the mind. In the
Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger we follow a teenager who s ups and downs fill the
plot of the book. The teenager, Holden Caulfield, shows the reader what it can be like when going
through many tragedies as a young adult. The book is followed by a set of many questions.
Throughout the book you find the answer to these question and why Holden becomes what he
becomes. Relating to these questions, the thoughts of Holden s sanity and happiness are pulled
under the microscope. As the novel the Catcher in the Rye progresses, Holden Caulfieldfinds
himself on a journey to maturity; he goes from being an angry teenager that dislikes phonies... Show

Furthermore, when Holden is watching Phoebe on the carousel he talks about what truly
growing up is. He says , All the kids kept trying to grab for the gold rings and so was Old Phoebe,
and I was sort of afraid she d fall off the goddam horse... The thing with kids is, if they want to
grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything (Salinger 211). This part
in the book finally shows us that Holden has realized you can t hold back growing up. And in
turn Holden grew up a little himself. When Holden says you have to let them do it , he means
you have to let them grow up. This is one of the biggest climaxes of the whole book because
Holden has now created a new persona of just being a teen, and not as a protector or a catcher, he
just is a teen who is growing up. Consequently, the book is starting to show Holden is showing a
conclusion to his immature

Anabolic Strokes
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the term referred to as a stroke is defined
as a cerebrovascular accident. This occurs when the blood vessel has a disturbance in its normal
flow of blood, usually caused by a clot or rupture in the blood vessel. Following this sudden
blockage in the arteries, the brain first starts to lose the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and vital
components which keep it performing optimally, thus leading to death of brain cells (World Health
Organization, 2014). Strokes differ in cause and severity. An ischemic strokeis caused by an artery
that is totally blocked meaning the brains bloodsupply is completely cut off. A hemorrhagic stroke
is caused by a leaking or ruptured vessel to the brain meaning... Show more content on

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both Chemistry by Graham Swift
and The Landlady by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was terribly nice ,which he was quite grateful to

him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip. tells the readers that he s begin to
frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that
couldn t be trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In Chemistry , author s written the story in the word of narrator
, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy s. Line My father s death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather s but no more explicable, I was only seven. can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He s

writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is I , when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they re experiencing the narrators life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events
in other character s perspective, it might be another whole different story because

The Prehistory Of Home
In the book The Prehistory of Home Jerry Moore discusses the importance that home structures have
had for humans over time in different places of the world. He says that In addition to their basic and
fundamental function of providing shelter from natural elements, dwellings are powerful and
complex concentrates of humanexistence... our dwellings reflect and shape our lives (Moore, 3).
He believes that homes are representations of the existence of individual humans as well as their
surroundings. Jerry Moore is successful in explaining the importance of home in archaeology
throughout history with colorful examples as well as a comparison of the importance of the
home in the past to the importance of the home in the future. Moore sees the home as a
reflection of the self as well as a mirror image of one s surroundings. His goal is to describe the
importance of archaeology in history of home by critiquing the writing of an illuminated history
and that by exploring the homes of people in the past we can see the pas from a different
perspective (Moore, 9). He says that, archaeology is the only way those ancient lives can be
recovered and added to the consultable record of what it means to be human (Moore, 10). He also
wants to abandon the notion of time as linear and wants it to be seen as a continuum instead. He
believes the the goal of understanding the past intersects with the continuing human domestic
project (Moore, 11). Another goal of the book is to survey the ways

My Experience In Math
I believe everyone is capable of learning math. Everyone has struggled with something in life, and
I always had a struggle with mathematics. When I used to live in Illinois I didn t really struggle a
lot in math till I got into the fourth grade. I was in a class with fourth and fifth graders, we
would always do assignments and take tests and I always made bad grades on it. It always took
me a while to understand things and I wasn t engaged in math so I always got distracted. Also i
thought about other things that were not related to the teachers lessons. I always lacked
confidence in myself because I always failed at doing something when it came to math. I never
believed in myself and I could never see myself exceeding in math in the future. After a while,
my teacher started noticing me struggling on every assignment. They put me in a extra class to
get me help. I didn t want to be in that class because I wanted to be taught in the same class as
my friends, so it made me a little upset at everything. Whenever I went to the class they would
walk me through the math to the point where I got it. Over a period of time I started
understanding Fourth grade math a little bit and I was improving. I wasn t the best but I still
showed improvement. I could still tell I didn t have much confidence in myself because every
time I took a test I always change my answer and was never too sure if I was right or wrong. After
fourth grade I moved to Texas. Everything was so different,

Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games Essay
The second oldest form of literature after poetry is drama. Dramas have changed a lot over the
years. They use to plays that were wrote to be performed in the theater, and now they are mostly
written to be performed in a movie or a television show. There are many dramas today that most
people would not considered to be drama. Before reading the information in our text book, I
thought drama was basically just a story or movie between people who had problems with each
other; but that s not completely true. Dramas can basically be anything that has a hero or dialogue
to a certain extent. For this paper, I choose to write about the drama in the movie The Hunger
Games. This movie is not just only drama, it is also adventure and sci fi movie.... Show more

Haitian revolution Essay
In 1791 revolution broke out in the French colony of Saint Domingue, later called Haiti. The
Haitian Revolution resounded in communities surrounding the Atlantic Ocean. One of the
wealthiest European outposts in the New World, the Caribbean island s western third had some
of the largest and most brutal slave plantations. Slave laborers cultivated sugar, coffee, indigo,
and cotton, and they endured horrible death rates, requiring constant infusions of slaves from
Africa. In 1789 roughly 465,000 black slaves lived in the French colony on the island, along with

The war became more complicated in 1793 when the British invaded Saint Domingue. The
Spanish, who had a colony on the eastern two thirds of Hispaniola, also entered the fray by
supporting armies of escaped slaves, including a force under the command of an ex slave named
Toussaint Louverture. Pressed on all sides, commissioners from republican France, led by Leger
Felicte Sonthonax in the northern part of the colony, began to extend freedom and citizenship to
every slave in summer and autumn 1793. Inspired by this application of the rights of man, the
French National Convention abolished slavery in all French possessions on February 4, 1794.This
action transformed the conflict. Louverture abandoned the Spanish and began to fight for the
French and the freedom of his people. Over the next couple of years, Louverture consolidated
power on the island and created rigid rules that compelled ex slaves to work on plantations so as
to make the island productive again. In 1795, because of events in Europe, the Spanish signed a
peace treaty that ceded their colony on the island to the French. In 1798 Louverture negotiated a
treaty with the British, convincing them to leave the island and promising not to support any slave
rebellions in British colonies. He also sought to develop commercial relations with the United
States, even as the Quasi War (1798 1800) broke out with France, by sending Joseph Bunel to
Philadelphia. Bunel was so successful that he dined

A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis
A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through
loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This
story takes place in a cafГ©, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the
women (Vera s) cynical look on loveand her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and
has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of
their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many
reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t
talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she
expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the
man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as
he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love
with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of
interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that
Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer
irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of
irritation for her but something she now finds endearing.

Ruby Primer
In order to test whether the curry leaf possesses one of the 6 alleles and whether it has a Ruby
gene promoter, PCR and gel electrophoresis was used. Primers, short DNA sequences designed
specifically for each allele of the Ruby gene, were used to isolate the gene and amplify it for PCR.
Multiple PCRs were performed, each using a different primer set. Primers attach to specific regions
surrounding the geneand amplify only the region that is flanked. The forward primer is bound to a
specific sequence before the Ruby promoter, found to precede the actual gene sequence, and the
reverse primer is bound to the DNAafter the gene. In order for visible bands for gel
electrophoresis to be produced, a forward primer must bind to one strand of DNA and a reverse
primer must bind to the strand complementary to the one the forward primer binds to. If both
primers bind to the same strand, the PCR product formed will not produce a result after gel
electrophoresis. The size of the gel band of the DNA amplified by the primer will determine the

However, no clear determination was made regarding promoter presence. Curry leaf trees may

COMPARING ARTISTIC PERIODS
The Renaissance period was from roughly the 14th century to the 17th century of the common era
(CE) beginning in Italy later spreading throughout Europe. The word Renaissance comes from the
original Italian word Rinascimento or rinascere which means to be reborn according to Harper
(2012).
The influence of the Renaissance movement can be observed in art, music, science, religion,
politics, philosophy, literature, as well as other areas of intellectual inquiry. The Renaissance

Another characteristic of this period is the lack of distinct or realistic perspective in renderings.
Michelangelo was one of the first artist who pioneered the Mannerism at the Laurentian Library in
Florence Italy according to Britannica (2012). One such painting that employed the Mannerism
characteristics such as eroticism and obscure imagery is the Madonna with the Long Neck
painted by Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, also known as Parmigianino (Artble, 2012). In
1520 the humanistic model of the classical Renaissance such as the serenity, beauty, and order
began to break down as a negative world view began to emerge due to machinations and wars of
Spain, France, and the Holy Roman Empire. (Ozarks, 2012)
Both paintings represent the Madonna (the Virgin Mary) with the baby Jesus on her lap. In the
previous painting, the arch vault and throne on which the mother is seated is stylized very
realistically along with the saints surrounding them are all in proportion to themselves and to each
other. In the later painting the pose of the Madonna is elongated and exaggerated, the baby in the
later painting is quite large and the angels in the picture are crammed to one side with a prophet on
the opposite which is very small not coming up to the Madonna s knee.

John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression
Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust
by Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is
hate speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that
vilifies on the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech
does not invoke mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s
deliberative capacities, or their mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...).
Liberties have been established to protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to
achieving happiness, which to Mill is the individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate
hate speech? Although it is important to allow people s freedom of expression, as this is
conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can stigmatize one s character, and for
this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally permissible. To better understand hate
speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of prohibiting hate speech,
following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will show why hate speech

Dominion Mandate Report
The Role of the Dominion Mandate
The Dominion Mandate is the authority from God to Adam to give to all mankind dominion over
the entire earth. In Genesis 1:28 KJV states, And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be
fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the
sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. This book
has been called the cultural mandate because it demonstrates the place of human beings in creation
and calls us to work with the things God has made in which he is ruling over, ordering, arranging,
restructuring, increasing, and unfolding the capability which was given to us. It is the key to
understanding who we are in Christ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We Must Clean Up The Patch
We Must Clean Up the Patch Imagine chicken noodle soup. Delicious, right? With its chunks of
chicken, noodles, and carrots all mixed together thanks to a delicious broth. Now, imagine this as
the ocean. What should be clear water is now cloudy broth with chunks of plastic, fishing nets and
shoes strewn about the mix. This is what Captain Charles Moore saw when he stumbled across the
Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In 1997, Moore took his research vessel through a stretch of the
Pacific Oceancalled the North Pacific High while traveling from Hawaii to California. He
discovered a thin plastic soup ... lightly seasoned with plastic flakes, bulked out here and there
with dumplings : buoys, net clumps, floats, crates, and other macro debris (Moore 4). The small
plastic pieces are due to photodegradation, which is the process of the sun breaking larger plastics
into tinier and tinier pieces (Turgeon). It was estimated in 2014 that there are some 2,000 billion
pieces of plastic just on the surface of the North Pacific Ocean, although the true number cannot
be calculated (VOX). Moore s estimation of the weight from the surface plastics he saw in 1997
was some 6.7 million tons, the same amount of trash dumped into the largest landfill at the time
in Los Angeles (Moore 18). Moore s discovery led to a flurry of research on the causes and
possible solutions. The most effective solution for cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch
(GPGP) is to use detainees of American prisons and

How To Gain Power In Lord Of The Flies
Order is the most common and favorable tool when leading others, but there are different, more
manipulative ways to gain leadership. Order or charisma are sometimes not necessary to become
a leader, but when they are not, dictation can be used to gain leadership. Jack from William
Golding s Lord of the Flies is stuck on an uncharted island with the other boys and they are faced
with the complication of organizing themselves. Jack is in competition to gain leadershipwith the
other older boys and to manipulate the younger boys to follow him. Jack must first gain
followers and make the decision of what type of leader he should become. Jack s goal to become a
dictatorial chief motivates him to reject order and give promises that are more like... Show more

Ralph calls for an assembly to discuss what the boys have to do on the island. Jack then gets into
an argument with Ralph over how Ralph isn t a proper chief. Jack rebels Ralph s order and
decided that he s not going to be apart of (Golding 127) Ralph s group. Jack leaving the others is
the start of his rise to his dictatorial rule over the boys. Jack uses him leaving to gain followers
to have authority, which leads to his misuse of power. Jack has the boys think he is a better
chief than Ralph by saying he can do different things as a chief than what Ralph has done as
chief. Before Jack s rise in power, Jack further rejects order to become a dictatorial chief by
breaking the rules of the island. The boys decide that they need a way to signal passing ships
and go to the mountain to make a signal fire and Jack decides that. Jack rebels order by going
against current rules in place through manipulating the order of the conch and says that the
conch doesn t count on top of the mountain (Golding 42). Jack breaking the rule of the person
holding the conch further adds to his motivation to be a dictatorial chief, because he is not
following rules which leads to him to be a dictatorial chief. Jack would then misuse his power and
not enstate rules as a chief. Jack aspires to be a dictatorial chief through rejecting the order of the
island and he also does so through the promises he gives to his

Piggy As the Conscious Mind
The book Lord of The Flies, by William Golding has the theory of Freud s Id, Ego, and Superego

island while escaping the war. When using Freud s theory, the character, In the book Lord of the

According to the book, Piggy is a young British boy physically vulnerable to all the boys because
of his asthma, being overweight and having to wear glasses. Piggy wiped his glasses and adjusted
them on his button nose. The frame had made a deep, pink V on the bridge. (William Golding,

by his responsibleness. I don t care what they call me, he said confidentially, so long as they don

identified as their appearance and Piggy tries to convince them not to be called by Piggy
because it resembles himself being overweight. Wishing to be the leader of everyone Piggy tries
to make sure everyone understands the right to do, but cannot because of the appearance placed

Daniel Gardner and the Science of Fear
Anyone who saw it will never forget it. And almost everyone saw it. When the first jet darted out
of that crisp blue September sky and crashed into the World Trade Center, only a single
television camera captured the image. But as the tower burned, alerts flashed trough wires and
airwaves. The world s electronic eyes turned, opened, and waited. When the second plane
streaked in, an immense audience perhaps hundreds of millions saw the jet, the angry
explosion, the gushing smoke, the glass and steel raining down like confetti in a parade. They
saw it live (Gardner, 2008). Nearly 3000 people were killed during the terrorist attacks on 11
September 2001 and the coming months the media were filled with interviews, profiles and
terrible stories of loss. Fear of more terrorist attacks spread the nation. As a reaction, the
American population massively abandoned airports and chose to travel by car instead, which
had a great impact on the airline business. But what no one mentioned nor the media or
politicians is that air travel is dramatically safer than driving. The safety gap is so large, that
planes would still be safer than cars even if the threat of terrorism were unimaginably worse than
it actually is. According to research, 1595 people lost their lives because of the major shift from air
travel to a much less safe way of traveling: by car. That is six times as many as the people who
where on board of the doomed flights on September 11. So how come that people put

Clearance Rates In Neighborhood Canvassing
I feel there is a multitude of reasons as to why clearance rates would differ by census region.
Some of those reasons include differences in reporting, problems with evidence collection, and
police and prosecutorial mistakes. That being said, I feel that one of the areas where mistakes
happen compromising the ability to see a case through to arrest is a failure on the part of law
enforcementofficers to canvass neighborhoods appropriately. Eyewitness information, questionable
at times in its own right, can be the difference between an arrest and another unsolved case.

The same could be said here. Neighborhood canvassing is a long, drawn out, boring process that
everyone would rather avoid. Going from house to house, business to business, talking to people
who saw nothing, would rather not be involved, or just don t want to talk to the police can be a
thankless job. However, it is the basic skills that solve crimes. Therefore, I feel an intervention that
would help clearance rates would be organized and accountable programs for canvassing. Included
in this program would be an educational portion showing how to effectively interview those who
are reluctant or those who feel they saw nothing but may know more than they think. Also included
in this program would be the reasons why this method is effective and, because who doesn t like
stories, examples where canvassing solved the crime and caught the criminal, as well as examples
where canvassing would have solved the crime if only a department would have dedicated the
personnel. Once departmental training had occurred, I would ensure that a system of checks
and balances is in place. Every contact, or lack thereof, would need a report. These reports
would be filed in a central location where everyone involved in the case would have access. This
way an officer can see if an area was canvassed or if someone wasn t home at a location then they
could attempt another contact. Additionally, officers would need to continue attempting contact
until contact with someone at the location was made. There would be a ranking officer ultimately
responsible for the canvassing section, both ensuring that reports were correctly filled out and
filed and that any incomplete reports were followed up on. Neighborhood canvassing is probably
one of the most boring ways to be involved in a high profile case.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Glass Ionomer Cement
Glass ionomer cement[GIC], invented by Wilson and Kent, has been used as a dental restorative
material for more than four decades and its properties are constantly improved to overcome its
shortcomings. The unique properties of GIC include direct adhesion to tooth and base metals [1],
anticariogenic properties [2], thermal compatibility with tooth enameland dentin, minimized
microleakage at the tooth enamel interface, biological compatibility, and minimal cytotoxicity.
The disadvantages of GIC such as Brittleness, low tensile and flexural strengths has limited its
use to low stress bearing sites such as Class III and Class V cavities [3]. Various studies have
been done to improve the properties of GIC by incorporation of materials such as bioglass, CPP
ACP etc. In our study we have incorporated chitosan to enhance the properties of GIC.
Chitosan is a natural linear bio polyaminosaccharide. It is a hydrolyzed (deacetylated) derivative of
chitin which is the principal component ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there are different classes of fluoride releasing materials, their properties need to be
improved significantly before considering them as universal restorative materials. Although a single
material would be desirable, compromises may be necessary when selecting materials.
CONCLUSION
Within the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that stronger, more durable material
(10v/v% Chitosan modified glass ionomer cement) could be selected for posterior occlusal
restorations, while higher fluoride releasing material (50v/v% Chitosan modified glass ionomer
cement) could be selected for individuals with high caries risk and in areas subjected to less stress.
It is hoped that the laboratory measurements of flexural and Micro Shear bond strength may aid the
interpretation of future studies of the clinical performance of Chitosan modified

Persuasive Essay On How To Stop Bullying
Bullies can be found in every school. However, they can be hard to spot. That is why teachers
and students should always be on the lookout for bullying, and not hesitate to stop it if they
discover a bully. In this situation, Martha is being teased by people that seem to be her friends.
What is said doesn t seem to be teasing, though. The jokes hit too close to home and are extremely
hurtful. However, we are not positive this is a case of bullying. If I were one of the bystanders in
this type of situation, I would try to stop the bullying, because the teasing could get worse as
time goes on, Martha might not be able to stop the bullies on her own, and I would want
someone to help me if I was being bullied. The first reason I would try to stop Martha s bullies is
because the teasing could get worse as time passes. The comments are already hurtful, but they
could become something even more serious if no one intervenes. For example, when you first get
clothes, they are not usually very comfortable, because they re tight and haven t been worn. But
the more you wear them, the more comfortable they get, and eventually you ve worn them so
much you need new clothes. This could be the case with Martha s bullying. The more the girls
bully Martha, the more comfortable they get with teasing her. Eventually, they ll buy new clothes ,
which represents them adopting a harsher form of bullying. Then, the process will start all over
again, and the bullying will get worse and worse.

Postconventional Schema
Appendix 1 see James Rest (1974), for the Defining Issues Test. This test has been devised under
the influence of Lawrence Kohlberg s moral reasoning stages, uses a Likert scale to give
quantitative ratings and rankings of issues of five moral dilemmas. The scale constitutes of 12
issues that are to be rated in terms of importance to the corresponding dilemma and then rank the
four most important issues. The respondent will either score on three specific schemas of moral
reasoning: Personal Interests, Maintaining Norms, and the Post conventional Schema. When a
respondent reads an issue statement that both makes sense to them, as well as triggers a preferred
schema, that statement is given a high rating and ranking. Conversely, when a respondent reads an
issue statement that is either construed as nonsensical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Maintaining Norms Schema is considered more advanced than the Personal Interests
Schema, as it emphasizes more than the individual. At the Maintaining Norms reasoning level,
law and authority are important, as each of these helps to uphold social order, which is
paramount to this schema. So, a respondent who is predominantly using this schema will take
into consideration what needs to be done in order to be compliant with the social order of society.
Finally, the Postconventional Schema is regarded as the most developmentally advanced. At the
Postconventional reasoning level, laws are not simply blindly accepted (as with the Maintaining
Norms Schema), but are scrutinized in order to ensure society wide benefit. So, a respondent who
is primarily using this schema will focus on what is best for society as a whole. For example, the
Civil Rights movement was a product of Postconventional reasoning, as followers were most
concerned with the society wide effects of (in)equality. It should be noted that, though an individual
may rely more heavily on one of the aforementioned schemas, moral reasoning is typically
informed, to varying degrees, by each of

Forgetting In Short Term Memory
Throughout the semester what interested me the most was the learning and understanding of
what Psychology was. Throughout the course I have learned many new interesting topics and
history of what it actually is. I found out about what Short term, and long term memory does.
How it truly affects the lives of others, and the brain itself. I developed a high interest in what it
really does. I would ve never imagined how it affects people, and what it s like living inside a
brain that can t remember much, or can remember things that happened to them when they were
toddlers. People come across of it as something that is very hard to talk about. I find it very
interesting. Although our minds may make it seem worse than it really is, it affects millions of
people s lives on a daily basis. During the timeof the course I have also found an interest in learning
about memory. The brain has many useful strategies that affect our bodies more than we know. The

Forgetting in Short term Memory can be a useful way in clearing out the unwanted clutter from
our memories. Short Term Memory and Long Term Memory Research evidence, theories and
studies supports and analyze that long term memory and short term memory are separate
theories. Short term memory is a system for storing information for brief periods of time. Some
researchers see short term memory simply as a temporary storage unit for incoming information.
When we try and remember ideas events or facts, we are actually remembering our version of
events. If you think about what you ate for dinner on Thanksgiving five years ago you most likely
would say the typical meal ideas of a thanksgiving dinner, such as turkey, ham, potatoes etc. You
would not be able to recall and explain specific details that require attention and focus. Since
memory is unique to the individual

A Historical Perspective On Anxiety Management Training Essay
In the article by Richard M. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled Clinical Practice, University
Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training from The
American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management
Training, AMT.
He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various
universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced the relationship
between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and
identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of researchhe along with
one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to
color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p.
287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they
hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this
hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then
talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students,
investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found
that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just
as successful as a longer approach when reducing

The Namesake Belonging Quotes
Moving around can be difficult for many people with new neighborhoods, new people, and new
atmospheres. Alienation is an unavoidable aspect of modern life. There are a variety of ways to
accommodate people in new places such as community gatherings and public events such as
parades, festivities, and nearby school events. However, it becomes complicated when there are
language barriers, cultural differences and internal belonging. Many immigrants are haunted by the
sense of alienation when arriving in a new country, no matter how many obstacles they happen to
overcome. Not only does it take a toll on relationships, but on internal struggles on what it means
to come from, call home, and belong. To this present day, many people looking for new life in
America have to face an overwhelming amount of difficulties in an attempt to create a comfortable
life. Yet their sense of belonging will ultimately never feel real, and that struggle and last more than
one lifetime. In the novel The Namesake one of our main protagonist, Ashima, is a foreigner from

Magna Carta Essay
The Magna Carta, Latin for Great Paper , was written as a charter for England in 1215 (Magna 1).
The Magna Carta has had the most significant influence on modern day common law and
constitutions. The document was originally written because of disagreements between the Pope,
King John, and his English barons over the rights of the king. The Magna Cartarequired the king to
renounce certain rights, and to accept that the powers of the king could be bound by law (Asimov
12). There are a few misconceptions about the Magna Carta, however. It was not the first document
to attempt to limit the power of the king. It, however, failed to limit the power of the king,
especially during the Middle Ages. The Magna Carta had been strengthened... Show more content

During the Tudor period, there was limited knowledge of the document, even by those who
wrote about it. In the statute books, it appeared that the Magna Carta was brought about by King
Henry III, rather than the reapplication of the original charter. The Magna Carta was first used
during the Tudor period as a Bill of Rights. The church often attempted to use the first clause of
the Magna Carter to protect itself from attacks by King Henry, but its claims had no credibility
(Asimov 55). The first person to attempt to use the Magna Carta was Francis Bacon, who
asserted that it guaranteed due process in a trial. At this time in English history, the Magna Carta
was used in common law. However, it was not seen as a set of liberties guaranteed for the people
against the Crown and government in general, but as a normal statute which gave a certain level of
liberties that could not be relied on, especially against the king. Therefore, the Magna Carta had
very little effect on government in the early Tudor period because of the power the king retained, a
situation which lasted until the Elizabethan age. During the Elizabethan age, England was becoming
the most powerful force in Europe. Pride was becoming a primary force in all areas of academics
and attempts were made to prove that Parliament had Roman origins. The Magna Carta was

  • 2. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Paul Mccartney s Song Bloody... Hope Wimer English 015 Sec. 038 Rhetorical Analysis 17 October 2014 Give Ireland Back To The Irish Discrimination. Violence. Political turmoil. This was the reality that plagued Northern Ireland in a thirty year conflict known as The Troubles , which began in 1968 and ended in 1998. Paul McCartney s song Give Ireland Back to the Irish was written in response to Bloody Sunday , and is an effective example of a rhetorical argument. Bloody Sunday was a major incident that took place on January 30, 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On this day, twenty six protesters were shot by British paratroopers and 14 died from their wounds. (Crutchley). This song, written and recorded just two days after the incident, was aimed at raising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His aim was to make government officials realize the effects of their decisions and have more sympathy to the people who were affected by the British Army s tactics. The line How would you like it/If on your way to work/You were stopped by Irish soldiers prompts the listener to think about how they would feel if the situation was reversed, and Ireland had sent troops into Britain to perpetuate conflict and injustice. The line Great Britain and all the people/Say that all people must be free highlighted the hypocrisy of the British government and how it stated that all people must be free, yet it was sending in its own violent troops instead of letting the Irish government and military forces handle the conflict (McCartney). This was also shown through the title statement give Ireland back to the Irish , because McCartney urged Britain to relinquish military control of Ireland because clearly the presence of the British army did not help the situation rather, it furthered the conflict. McCartney further played on the sympathies of his listeners with the line Meanwhile, back in Ireland/There s a man who looks like me (McCartney). He pointed out that there are similarities between everyone, and implied that we are all people with human rights who should not mistreat each other. In the line He dreams of God and country... And he s sitting in a prison showed that Irish citizens wanted peace and loyalty in their country but instead they were mistreated and subjected to injustice, largely resulting from the British government s military strategies ... • 3. Historiography of the Reconstruction Era Riham Elshazli Professor Clement Price Civil War and the Reconstruction 12/11/12 Historiography of the Reconstruction Era At a time when America was trying to piece itself back together, the Reconstruction Era is one of the most important chapters in history. It is also, however, one of the most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of freed slaves needed to be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was moderate in his views as to what should happen to restore order to the United States. However, some Republicans had other plans in mind. They wanted to impose harsher terms and used Congress to do so, justly giving them the name Radical Republicans. Opinions about this time period have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his academic view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the country as movies such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These movies portrayed Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They depicted blacks as being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first painted. In short, Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed black people and offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t until the 1930s when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge Dunning s traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. Du Bois to counter his opinion but the attempt did not hold. In Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois argues that the corruption spoken about was highly exaggerated and that Dunning overlooked many of Reconstruction s achievements. Historians disregarded what Du Bois had to say because his use of the Marxist theory and because he was seen as a radical at the time. It was not until 20 years later when other historians, known as revisionists, began to echo Du Bois arguments. While these revisionists still saw Reconstruction as a failure, they disagreed with Dunning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Essay About The Winter Concert The sound of a dying cow, croaking its last breath . That was what my dad called the sound of me playing my clarinet. Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but 3rd grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band students (including me) had thoughtthey were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the world. Of course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less professionals. And this leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We could not call it the Christmas concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95% of the kids were Christian/White and most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far, we screwed it up. By the end, none of the parents watching could tell the difference between the song and the squeaks that were over powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came up to each of their sweet little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said, You guys sounded like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it. Their inner thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM NOT MAD! Just joking, I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the kids just came for the free pizza and goodie bags at the end, but didn t we all at one point. I remember one time a group of me and my friends went to this B day party of a girl we all hated... and avoided her the entire time! Ahhh, the good old days where every kid was a bull, even to their fake friends, and no one got in trouble. Back to what I was saying, so my party was all yay yay glitter, pink, sparkles, etc. until my brothers came. Okay, so I have two brothers, one who is a year younger and one that s two years younger. • 5. The Role Of Chief Role Of Chief Financial Officer GC3 was established with the purchase of fourteen Coffee Hut stores in Columbus, OH, by three former Coffee Hut associates. Over the next few years, GC3 expanded into Cincinnati and Cleveland, but have kept Columbus as their regional headquarters. Moving forward, GC3 grew with the purchase of Great Scoops and DaDeli. Due to this extreme growth, and the need for centralized decision making, most of GC3 staff will reside at the company s headquarters, aside from store managers and administrative staff. With the continued growth, it is important to develop a corporate structure. The three forerunners of GC3 are Tony, Bruce and Bonnie. Tony has taken the role of Chief Financial Officer. To be successful, Tony will need to build a team to meet the demands of the entire organization. Since Tony works at headquarters, a proposed IT and Accounting group will report to him. These added responsibilities will create a need for Tony to have one main direct report, a Finance Manager. The Finance Manager will directly manage the newly added IT department and Accounting department. Since headquarters will be responsible for all accounting functions throughout the organization, an AP/AR clerk will directly report to the Accounting and Payroll Specialist. With the many new proposed software additions, an IT person will be needed. IT will reside at headquarters and have the capabilities to remotely access all PC s at any given time to monitor and troubleshoot technology issues. Compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Assassination When one hears the name Kennedy, what comes to mind? Many families have multiple icons in the American political scene; the Kennedys are no exception. Many think of President John F. Kennedy and his assassination. Others reflect on Jacqueline Kennedy and her elegance, style, and grace. Still others think of Ted Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, or Rose Kennedy. Others remember yet another Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, New York Senator and brother of President John F. Kennedy , who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. On April 4, 1968, he spent the entire day campaigning in Indiana. First going to the University of Notre Dame then proceeding to Ball State University and finally finishing in the capitol, Indianapolis, he thought the day successful. Having heard the news of Martin Luther King, Jr. s assassination, he decided to deliver a speech at the rally to break the news to the mostly African American audience. While telling of the tragic loss, Kennedy incites the audience to believe that America can overcome King s assassination by utilizing the rhetorical strategies of pathos, allusion, and anaphoras.... • 8. Textbook Adoption in California, 1879-2014 Textbook Adoption in California, 1879 2014 Suppose you are a textbook publisher with a mandate to reduce the weight of the books you put out. Research has shown that your books break backs, and the legislature has spoken: your books will not be adopted (and you will, therefore, lose much of your business) unless you clear strict weight limits. The weight of a book is proportional to its length, so your first thought is to cut some of the content. Will students really read or even reference 1,000 pages of World History, anyway? But as you start scanning for superfluous sections, you come to a startling realization: every paragraph of the monstrous text serves a role. Not an educational or curricular role, necessarily, but certainly a practical one. Each section is aligned with some state standard, meaning that it purports to teach some element of state mandated curriculum. Perhaps it is the only passage that mentions unsustainable mineral resource consumption to comply with California s Standard MS ESS3 4 for eighth grade science, or maybe it provides a particularly clear example of making an argument from evidence that will be helpful in convincing state officials that the book adheres to their curriculum. Cutting these standards aligned passages, even if they are not actually contributing to the cohesion of the text, could easily get you knocked off the list of instructional materials approved for state purchase. Maybe you could remove some pictures? Nope: pictures, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After becoming discontent with the world around him, bin Laden began to seek a world with pure Islamic law not influenced by western powers. After the creation of al Qaeda, he used his business background, ambitious nature and key religious messages to influence the actions of his followers. The creation a resilient global terrorist network relies on the same fundamental building blocks as a corporate business, from organization to strategy. Following the 1970 Russian invasion, there were many grievances that were not being addressed by the Middle Eastern governments and Osama bin Laden became a mythological voice of the people. He was able to wrap himself in the imagery of the prophet Muhammed and used a media campaign to spread his message of a strong Islamic state free of western influence (Graham, 2011, para. 9). Bin Laden spoke persuasively about issues that his followers could relate rooted in Islam to help blend in a familiar foundation. It didn t matter if the message involved the killing of innocent people, so long as it helped everyone achieve the end result they hoped for and could not attain without the freedom fighter bin Laden. • 10. The Contribution Of The Treaty Of Versailles On January 10, 1920, a peace document known as The Treaty of Versailles, signed by Germany and the Allied Nations on June 28, 1919, took force. This agreement was the most powerful of the peace treaties, bringing an end to World War I. Despite the peace it brought to the Allied Nations, it brought nothing but devastations to all aspects of Germany. Due to its harsh and humiliating terms, twenty years after its authentication, the treaty would trigger a second world war. Created as a document of peace, The Treaty of Versailleswould antithetically prompt WWII by promoting the infamous dictator Adolf Hitlerand his Nazi Party to power. Under the Treaty of Versailles, all German overseas colonies became League of Nation Mandates. Germany was also forced to accept complete responsibility for initiating World War I , making them responsible for paying all war damage. In addition, the German army was limited to 100,000 men, the air force was banned from having combat aircraft, the navy lost nearly all of its surface ships and submarines, and tanks were forbidden. These barbarous terms were set with the goal of preventing another war by crippling Germany, but Germans viewed this as unfair, bringing nothing other than indignant reactions. The Treaty of Versailles played a major role in bringing a Great Depression upon Germany. German capital that would have been used to advance industry would rather be drained by payments to the Allied Nations. In order to pay off WWI debt as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Affirmative action was created to increase the number of people from certain social groups in employment, education, business, government, and other areas (LaNoue, G., 2010). This policy is geared toward women, and minorities such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, and disabled people. Therefore, the rationale behind most affirmative action is sound. It does make sense to attempt to normalize for differences in the college entry level because of the quality of preparation at the elementary and secondary levels because children have no say in where they attend school. Typically, they are forced to attend a school nearest to their home and they normally do not have any control over the quality of education they receive. I made no mention here of race, but the quality of the education; the unfortunate truth here is that these two are highly correlated in our country. I derive that those who may benefit from affirmative action policies have the ability to succeed but the preparation is lacking. No matter what the case may be, they do deserve a chance. Some would argue that once you reach post college employment opportunities that there is no need for affirmative action since presumably the educational differences you find in secondary schools and colleges would have balanced out by the end of your college career. Life is a gift of beauty yet sometimes that gift can be tarnished by the darkness of pain. However, it s the simple aspects of life that truly define who we are as individuals. A simple gameof catch is all it ever took to make that darkness of life fade. A simple game of catch is all it ever took to bring back the happiness that had been taken away. A simple game of catch is all it ever took. Baseballhas been an important aspect of my life. Ever since childhood, I ve played the great game that I ve come to love and hate. Though I have risen and fallen in my abilities, I still find a way to play the game. When I was a child, I started my experiences of baseball by playing catch with my father in the front yard of my house. We threw and we caught and we smacked our gloves the repeat the process once again. Playing catch gave us a way to relax, a way to talk, and a way to connect. When we threw to each other, it gave me a chance to train in my abilities and it gave my father a way to relive his own childhood. Yet, as time went on and my interests changed, playing catch became a thing in the past. Gone. Everything gone. My childhood faded, my dreams jaded, and my innocence traded. La Raza Character Analysis Like the Chicano character, the La Raza personality rose up out of the historical backdrop of political, financial, and social disappointment of Mexicans in the United States and their ensuing social activism (Gutierrez, 1995; Ochoa, 2004). The term was initially used to affirm that the mix of Native American and European societies created a capable and even predominant raza cosmica (astronomical race) (Vasconcelos, 1997). The 1960s Chicanodevelopment grasped a politicized Raza personality that underlined the indigenous parts of their legacy and de stressed European segments (Oropeza, 2005). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their fellow sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. We are called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the world we live in. After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to me the severity of homelessnessin America and how simple it can be to change it. Community First! not only builds tiny homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives them a community to become a part of. Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has grown to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the homeless in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of 19,000 volunteers. The literature on nursing bedside report is focused in two general areas. The first focus area is the process of implementing bedside report, either describing the experiences related to implementation or explaining how other organizations could implement this change. Though she was seen as a symbol of the conservative, extravagant royal class, recent studies disagree on this well known image. Historical fact shows that Marie Antoinette was a virtuous queen and a thoughtful mother who was courageous in the face of death. The current social image of Antoinette is a prejudiced one. Her notoriety is wrongly accused. Antoinette was only a victim of family ambition and the general situation in France. Though she lacked actual political power, Antoinette lived an active, charitable and modest life. The famous phrase, Let them eat cake is often attributed to Antoinette as a vivid example of her ignorance. However, renowned biographer Antonia Fraser in Marie Antoinette: The Journey notes that this phrase is misattributed. It is actually originated from Jean Jacques Rousseau s Confessions, an autobiography published when Antoinette was only nine. It is more likely that some discontented individual fabricated the scenario and put the words into the mouth of Marie Antoinette (Fraser, 124). • 23. Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of Bernard Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The poem compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the bees become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community. Through this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public improvements and economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices, such as lust and greed to innovationfor society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits of marijuana legalization. Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting vice as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that fulfills the individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins provide a framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding. Mandeville, in the poem, provides examples of such actions within all echelons of society. Mandeville writes, Physicians valu d Fame and Wealth/ Above the dropping Patient s Health (71 72). As example of greed, medical professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the driving factor in treating patients rather than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. Again, Mandeville displays occurrences of vice within society by demonstrating instances of individual s pursuit of wealth at the expense of others, Their Kings were serv d, but Knavishly,/ Cheated by their own Ministry;/ ...Robbing the very Crown they saved (113 117). The King s own advisors and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own self interests over that of the Kingdom. He addresses greed and dishonesty in private life without hesitation or resentment. It is this self pursuit that Mandeville argues actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They use to plays that were wrote to be performed in the theater, and now they are mostly written to be performed in a movie or a television show. There are many dramas today that most people would not considered to be drama. Before reading the information in our text book, I thought drama was basically just a story or movie between people who had problems with each other; but that s not completely true. Dramas can basically be anything that has a hero or dialogue to a certain extent. For this paper, I choose to write about the drama in the movie The Hunger Games. The Haitian Revolution resounded in communities surrounding the Atlantic Ocean. One of the wealthiest European outposts in the New World, the Caribbean island s western third had some of the largest and most brutal slave plantations. Slave laborers cultivated sugar, coffee, indigo, and cotton, and they endured horrible death rates, requiring constant infusions of slaves from Africa. In 1789 roughly 465,000 black slaves lived in the French colony on the island, along with fewer than 31,000 whites. The war became more complicated in 1793 when the British invaded Saint Domingue. The Spanish, who had a colony on the eastern two thirds of Hispaniola, also entered the fray by supporting armies of escaped slaves, including a force under the command of an ex slave named Toussaint Louverture. Pressed on all sides, commissioners from republican France, led by Leger Felicte Sonthonax in the northern part of the colony, began to extend freedom and citizenship to every slave in summer and autumn 1793. Inspired by this application of the rights of man, the French National Convention abolished slavery in all French possessions on February 4, 1794.This action transformed the conflict. Louverture abandoned the Spanish and began to fight for the French and the freedom of his people. Over the next couple of years, Louverture consolidated power on the island and created rigid rules that compelled ex slaves to work on plantations so as to make the island productive again. In 1795, because of events in Europe, the Spanish signed a peace treaty that ceded their colony on the island to the French. In 1798 Louverture negotiated a treaty with the British, convincing them to leave the island and promising not to support any slave rebellions in British colonies. • 35. A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story takes place in a cafГ©, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women (Vera s) cynical look on loveand her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing. ... Primers, short DNA sequences designed specifically for each allele of the Ruby gene, were used to isolate the gene and amplify it for PCR. Multiple PCRs were performed, each using a different primer set. Primers attach to specific regions surrounding the geneand amplify only the region that is flanked. The forward primer is bound to a specific sequence before the Ruby promoter, found to precede the actual gene sequence, and the reverse primer is bound to the DNAafter the gene. In order for visible bands for gel electrophoresis to be produced, a forward primer must bind to one strand of DNA and a reverse primer must bind to the strand complementary to the one the forward primer binds to. If both primers bind to the same strand, the PCR product formed will not produce a result after gel electrophoresis. • 40. John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust by Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is hate speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that vilifies on the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech does not invoke mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s deliberative capacities, or their mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...). Liberties have been established to protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to achieving happiness, which to Mill is the individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate hate speech? Although it is important to allow people s freedom of expression, as this is conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can stigmatize one s character, and for this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally permissible. To better understand hate speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of prohibiting hate speech, following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will show why hate speech should be regulated, and why allowing it is dangerous to humans, and society as a whole. Freedom of expression is imperative for improving one s character, but not all forms of opinions , such as hate speech, should have full freedom to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With its chunks of chicken, noodles, and carrots all mixed together thanks to a delicious broth. Now, imagine this as the ocean. When the first jet darted out of that crisp blue September sky and crashed into the World Trade Center, only a single television camera captured the image. But as the tower burned, alerts flashed trough wires and airwaves. The world s electronic eyes turned, opened, and waited. When the second plane streaked in, an immense audience perhaps hundreds of millions saw the jet, the angry explosion, the gushing smoke, the glass and steel raining down like confetti in a parade. They saw it live (Gardner, 2008). Nearly 3000 people were killed during the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 and the coming months the media were filled with interviews, profiles and terrible stories of loss. Fear of more terrorist attacks spread the nation. As a reaction, the American population massively abandoned airports and chose to travel by car instead, which had a great impact on the airline business. But what no one mentioned nor the media or politicians is that air travel is dramatically safer than driving. That is why teachers and students should always be on the lookout for bullying, and not hesitate to stop it if they discover a bully. In this situation, Martha is being teased by people that seem to be her friends. What is said doesn t seem to be teasing, though. The jokes hit too close to home and are extremely hurtful. However, we are not positive this is a case of bullying. If I were one of the bystanders in this type of situation, I would try to stop the bullying, because the teasing could get worse as time goes on, Martha might not be able to stop the bullies on her own, and I would want someone to help me if I was being bullied. The first reason I would try to stop Martha s bullies is because the teasing could get worse as time passes. The comments are already hurtful, but they could become something even more serious if no one intervenes. For example, when you first get clothes, they are not usually very comfortable, because they re tight and haven t been worn. But the more you wear them, the more comfortable they get, and eventually you ve worn them so much you need new clothes. This could be the case with Martha s bullying. The more the girls bully Martha, the more comfortable they get with teasing her. Eventually, they ll buy new clothes , which represents them adopting a harsher form of bullying. Then, the process will start all over again, and the bullying will get worse and worse. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Postconventional Schema Appendix 1 see James Rest (1974), for the Defining Issues Test. This test has been devised under the influence of Lawrence Kohlberg s moral reasoning stages, uses a Likert scale to give quantitative ratings and rankings of issues of five moral dilemmas. The scale constitutes of 12 issues that are to be rated in terms of importance to the corresponding dilemma and then rank the four most important issues. The respondent will either score on three specific schemas of moral reasoning: Personal Interests, Maintaining Norms, and the Post conventional Schema. When a respondent reads an issue statement that both makes sense to them, as well as triggers a preferred schema, that statement is given a high rating and ranking. Conversely, when a respondent reads an issue statement that is either construed as nonsensical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Maintaining Norms Schema is considered more advanced than the Personal Interests Schema, as it emphasizes more than the individual. At the Maintaining Norms reasoning level, law and authority are important, as each of these helps to uphold social order, which is paramount to this schema. So, a respondent who is predominantly using this schema will take into consideration what needs to be done in order to be compliant with the social order of society. Finally, the Postconventional Schema is regarded as the most developmentally advanced. At the Postconventional reasoning level, laws are not simply blindly accepted (as with the Maintaining Norms Schema), but are scrutinized in order to ensure society wide benefit. So, a respondent who is primarily using this schema will focus on what is best for society as a whole. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a product of Postconventional reasoning, as followers were most concerned with the society wide effects of (in)equality. It should be noted that, though an individual may rely more heavily on one of the aforementioned schemas, moral reasoning is typically informed, to varying degrees, by each of ... • 52. Forgetting In Short Term Memory Throughout the semester what interested me the most was the learning and understanding of what Psychology was. Throughout the course I have learned many new interesting topics and history of what it actually is. I found out about what Short term, and long term memory does. How it truly affects the lives of others, and the brain itself. I developed a high interest in what it really does. I would ve never imagined how it affects people, and what it s like living inside a brain that can t remember much, or can remember things that happened to them when they were toddlers. People come across of it as something that is very hard to talk about. I find it very interesting. Although our minds may make it seem worse than it really is, it affects millions of people s lives on a daily basis. During the timeof the course I have also found an interest in learning about memory. The brain has many useful strategies that affect our bodies more than we know. The brain is our biggest support... Short Term Memory and Long Term Memory Research evidence, theories and studies supports and analyze that long term memory and short term memory are separate theories. Short term memory is a system for storing information for brief periods of time. Some researchers see short term memory simply as a temporary storage unit for incoming information. When we try and remember ideas events or facts, we are actually remembering our version of events. If you think about what you ate for dinner on Thanksgiving five years ago you most likely would say the typical meal ideas of a thanksgiving dinner, such as turkey, ham, potatoes etc. You would not be able to recall and explain specific details that require attention and focus. • 53. A Historical Perspective On Anxiety Management Training Essay In the article by Richard M. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled Clinical Practice, University Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training from The American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management Training, AMT. He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced the relationship between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of researchhe along with one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students, investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just as successful as a longer approach when reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Magna Carta Essay The Magna Carta, Latin for Great Paper , was written as a charter for England in 1215 (Magna 1). The Magna Carta has had the most significant influence on modern day common law and constitutions. The document was originally written because of disagreements between the Pope, King John, and his English barons over the rights of the king. The Magna Cartarequired the king to renounce certain rights, and to accept that the powers of the king could be bound by law (Asimov 12). There are a few misconceptions about the Magna Carta, however. It was not the first document to attempt to limit the power of the king. It, however, failed to limit the power of the king, especially during the Middle Ages. The Magna Carta had been strengthened... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Tudor period, there was limited knowledge of the document, even by those who wrote about it. In the statute books, it appeared that the Magna Carta was brought about by King Henry III, rather than the reapplication of the original charter. The Magna Carta was first used during the Tudor period as a Bill of Rights. The church often attempted to use the first clause of the Magna Carter to protect itself from attacks by King Henry, but its claims had no credibility (Asimov 55). The first person to attempt to use the Magna Carta was Francis Bacon, who asserted that it guaranteed due process in a trial. At this time in English history, the Magna Carta was used in common law. However, it was not seen as a set of liberties guaranteed for the people against the Crown and government in general, but as a normal statute which gave a certain level of liberties that could not be relied on, especially against the king. Therefore, the Magna Carta had very little effect on government in the early Tudor period because of the power the king retained, a situation which lasted until the Elizabethan age. During the Elizabethan age, England was becoming the most powerful force in Europe. Pride was becoming a primary force in all areas of academics and attempts were made to prove that Parliament had Roman origins. The Magna Carta was interpreted as an ...
